Ramblings on Fandom: Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, Delusional Shippers, and Alleged Misogyny
So with the release of Season 2 of What If…? emotions are once again running high, the outrage is outraging, and people are up in arms about the whole Captain Carter situation. While I do think that some reactions are a little overblown, even needlessly aggressive in tone to the unfortunate detriment of their otherwise convincing arguments, I share the confusion and frustration about the sudden centering of a long-dead & never excessively popular character, the sidelining of the Steve-Bucky friendship, and the as-inexplicable-as-it-is-total exclusion of Sam Wilson as Captain America. However, I’m not here to talk about the show because (1) I haven’t watched this season and have no plans to (why waste time torturing myself with something I know I’ll hate?) and (2) other people have already written dozens of metas about it, so what could I possibly add at this point.
What I do want need to talk about (lest I explode) is something that has irritated me for a long time and that is now happening again: Every time someone even mildly criticizes Peggy Carter, expresses doubts about her suitability as a heroine, or even just questions her disproportionate importance to the franchise post-EG, inevitably a certain section of fans will come out of the woodwork to immediately throw around accusations of misogyny and yell about how we’re all just a bunch of delusional Stuckies who are mad that she got "in the way" of our ship. Sigh.
This is gonna be a long one, so I’ll put it under a cut. Rant incoming. You've been warned. If you don't want to read, simply scroll on by.
First of all, let me state very clearly that I’m not debating the existence of misogyny and sexism in fandom spaces—or in the media from which these fandoms originate. At all. It exists, it’s a thing, I’m not denying that. Which is exactly why it frustrates me endlessly to see these accusations thrown around as a gotcha! argument to shut down any and all critical debate around a female character. All it does in the end is escalate rhetoric and radicalize attitudes.
In the case of Peggy Carter, specifically her treatment by Stucky shippers, I’ve always found 'misogyny as a motive' to be a largely unsubstantiated accusation.¹ Now, I neither presume nor do I want to speak for the entirety of Stuckynation, so I will not claim that there aren't corners of the fandom where people discuss her in ways that I find off-putting and deeply unserious, but I will say this: If you genuinely believe that disliking one (1) fictional female character equals “hating all women” and wanting to suppress and marginalize their presence in fiction and real life alike—then I think we need to take that word away from you until you’ve learned its true meaning.
You might also want to ask yourself how exactly reducing a female character to a mute trophy wife or a heroine who has to act out her love interest’s recycled storylines helps your feminist fight.
As to the “standing in the way of your ship” part of the argument. Very simply put: No character can stand in the way of something if there never ever was “a way” to that something to begin with. “Being mad” implies that there was a reasonable expectation that wasn’t met, a substantive hope that was crushed. Now, I’ve said this before and I’ll gladly say it again a million more times: No Stucky shipper in their right mind ever truly thought that there was even the slightest chance that Marvel Studios owned by the Walt Disney Company would allow Steve “Captain America” Rogers and Bucky “Winter Soldier” Barnes to be canonized as an explicitly romantic pairing in their billion dollar franchise. Be serious. That was never in the cards. I wish we all lived in a world where it was, but we don’t, and it wasn’t. The best we could ever hope for was for Steve and Bucky to get a good, satisfying, in-character ending. And if, in Steve’s case, that would’ve included hints (or more) about a possible rekindling of his, uh, aborted romance with Sharon—then so be it. But we never got any of that. The characters never got any of that. Instead they sent Steve into 1950s suburban hell, literally trapped him behind a white picket fence, and condemned him to a life of passivity and lies, all so he could be married to a woman he barely knew a long time ago in a completely different world; who built and ran a top-to-bottom Hydra-infested organization, but apparently never noticed that there was anything wrong with her life's work. For decades. Great. As for Bucky—well, we’ve all seen the devastatingly grim-faced, utterly lonely, and deeply sad version of him that was presented to us in TFATWS. Happy endings all around, I guess.
So. Am I mad that Steve didn’t get to ride into the rainbow-colored sunset with Bucky at the end of EG? No. Because that was never going to happen anyway. Would I have been mad had he ended up with Sharon or another female character in the 21st century? Also no. Granted, I wouldn’t have been ecstatic about it, but mad? No. But am I mad that Steve ended up with this specific female character under these specific circumstances as presented in canon? Fuck yeah, I am.
The thing is: I personally believe Steve and Peggy to be fundamentally incompatible when it comes to the way they view the world and their respective places in it; their morals and values; their capacity for compassion and empathy; their ability and willingness to compartmentalize, compromise, and collaborate with people and institutions whose ethics and/or politics do not align with their own. I have a real hard time believing that a relationship between these two (or worse, a hasty marriage) could be either happy or long-lasting.
I don’t believe Peggy to be inherently evil, I don’t hate her, I simply think she operates within a different moral framework than Steve (and even genuinely believes it to be a righteous one).² Your mileage may vary, but I personally happen to find that framework reprehensible, even indecent, and ultimately dangerous. After all, over the course of the 20th century, we have seen exactly where that kind of “the ends justify the means” brand of pragmatism leads—over and over again. Not to mention that the people who use this line of argument to defend characters like Peggy (or real-life politicians for that matter) never seem to want to look too closely at who gets to define what "the ends" are in the first place and who decides when they've finally been met.
(Never. The answer is never.)
And to be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with depicting, and even centering a narrative around a morally (dark)gray character—oftentimes it’s actually the more interesting option—but you cannot at the same time claim that they are purely good and should be only admired as such when their actions literally tell an entirely different story.
So, no. I will not accept Peggy Carter as the shining aspirational heroine that the MCU so badly wants to sell her to me as—while simultaneously continuing to reveal things that paint an increasingly darker picture of her character. And I will certainly not celebrate seeing one of my favorite characters of all time—whose defining trait was that he couldn't ignore "a situation pointed south"; who used to fight for the little guy and against the establishment; who once said about the very organization that Peggy Carter helped build that it was so corrupt, it all needed to go—rendered morally inert for some hollow happy ending that may as well be a conservative’s wet dream full of false nostalgia for an America that never really existed. I cannot find it in me to be anything less but mad about that.
But that does not make me a misogynist. It does not make me a delusional shipper. It makes me someone who looks at what the MCU has been telling me about Peggy Carter for years now—over and over again—and takes it at its own word.
--------
¹ If you’ve actually read a a fair number of Stucky(!) fanfics you will have noticed that the reverence afforded to and "page time" devoted to her character and her relationship with Steve is somewhat disproportionate to anything that's backed up by canon—well, up until EG, where she was suddenly reanimated as The Great Love of Steve’s Life—and in my experience, it's highly unusual for any fandom to put so much (mostly) positive attention on another character, let alone a potential love interest that is not part of the endgame ship.
² I also want to emphasize that if you love Peggy and she's your fave: good for you! I genuinely have no beef with you. People can agree to disagree. All I ask for is that we maybe stop willfully ignoring the less savory aspects of her character. You don't need to pretend she's perfect to justify your affection for her. I LOVE Steve, and yet I have no problem conceding that he is FAR from perfect.

Stucky Recs: Holiday fics
Tumblr media
December is here, so I've gathered twelve holiday Stucky fics to make this rec post for all of you. They're all perfect for reading under a blanket with the warm beverage of your choice.
Canon Holiday fics
❄️Paper tree | Ellessey | Explicit | 21,391 words
I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like pre-war fluff always has this extra softness to it, even more, somehow, than even the softest and sweetest of AUs. It just hits different. This wonderfully warm and feel-good holiday fic is such a perfect example of what I mean. Steve and Bucky are so sweet to, and about, each other in this fic, and I adore it. This one is also broken up into scenes that happen on different days as December goes on. I always enjoy that sort of formatting so much in a holiday fic, and, in this case, it also gives a whole month of delightful, endearing, and lovely pre-war moments.
Quote:
"It's a different taste, though! I want the authentic Mallo experience, in drink form." "It's coconut. The different taste is coconut. We could make it ourselves." Bucky's face lights up, and Steve adds another thing to his mental list of ways he can make those blue eyes get all happy and bright. He thinks about how many things he's not good at, how many things are so hard for him, but seem easy for everyone else with their perfectly functioning hearts, lungs, ears, and eyes. And he thinks about how easy it's always been for him to make Bucky happy. Doesn't even seem like he has to try, but he likes to try anyway. He drops another marshmallow in his own mug, and two in Bucky's, and thinks he could probably spend the whole rest of his life just trying and trying and trying.
❄️On the other end of the line | velleities | Teen | 9,385 words |
So, okay, only the last part of this fic takes place on Christmas. This fic does go through the rest of the year, too. But I feel like the Christmas-set resolution is significant enough to make this one solidly a holiday fic. It's also a gorgeous fic. It's a Post-TWS recovery fic that makes plenty of time for how not-okay Steve is, something I always really appreciate. Like I said, this fic takes them through a year, a Bucky-recovery year, and the growth and rediscovery of their relationship in that year is so well done. It's sometimes heartbreaking and sometimes sweet and always beautiful. I know calling a 9k fic a slow burn is debatable, so I won't say this is a slow burn. But I will say, that by the time this fic is done, these two have really earned their happy and romantic resolution.
Quote:
He can’t hold up a conversation. He doesn’t want Bucky to go – he craves his company – but he’s too drained to think of anything to say. He resorts to just feeling pitiful for himself, breathing in and out and listening to Bucky breathing in and out in return. “D’you want to hang up?” Bucky asks gently. “No,” Steve says hurriedly. “Okay.” Twenty minutes later, Steve is slowly drifting into sleep. “Steve?”   “Mm?” Steve mumbles into the phone, cradling it as if cradling Bucky. “G’night.” “G’night, Buck,” he manages drowsily. Steve somehow sleeps through the night.
❄️I got that good thing for you | canistakahari | Explicit | 5,830 words
You know that correct version of things where, these days, Steve and Bucky live in a nice brownstone in Brooklyn? And awful things have stopped happening to Bucky? And the events of Infinity War and Endgame definitely never occurred? And Steve and Bucky are really happy and super in love? Right. This fic happens in that world, and I love it. This is just so cozy and domestic. It's so low-stakes and so romantic. It's a holiday fic, and it's a fic about just how much Steve loves both making Bucky happy and seeing Bucky happy. It's also a fic about Bucky wanting to get the aesthetic exactly right for a specific sex fantasy. And honestly? They deserve that. We, as a fandom, deserve that. This fic is a joy.
Quote:
“I’ve spent a lot of time looking at pictures of other people's Christmas lights.” Bucky extricates himself from his blanket nest and walks right up to Steve, puts a hand on his chest, and kisses him firmly on the mouth. He is solid and soft at the same time, his hair carrying the faint scent of wood smoke and cold air from the tree farm. “I'll get your lights,” mumbles Steve against his lips. Bucky grins. “Yeah. I’ll make you cookies.” Oh. Oh, Steve didn’t realize it was a trade. It doesn’t have to be, but Bucky is offering. “What kind?” “Whatever kind you want,” says Bucky. He slides his hands down Steve’s chest, fingers tucked into the top of Steve’s jeans. “Even if you want nuts in them.” Steve cocks his head. Bucky doesn’t make cookies often, but whenever he does, Steve counts every single one of his blessings. Bucky will eat two or three and then leave the rest to Steve to devour, which he does, often within the first twelve hours of them appearing. The whole batch.
❄️Home is the Human Heart | aimmyarrowshigh @aimmyarrowshigh | Teen | 3,194 words
This fic parallels two years: one in during the post-TWS recovery era and one when Steve and Bucky are young. The scenes go back and forth between the two years in a way that really sets this fic's tone. It's beautifully done, and there's a touch of a really lovely bittersweetness that never takes away from the warmth, joy, or hopefulness of this fic. I also really, really love how Steve goes about things, with and for Bucky, in the current era scenes. Also! This fic has a line near the end that hit me hard when I first read it and that I still think about all the time.
Quote:
Rachel crawls out from under the table. Bucky gets the jar of pennies he and Becca have been collecting for the last year, and Becca gets the dreidel. Rachel’s eyes go wide at the sight of all the money. There’s probably fifty cents clanking around in the jar. “Steve, d’you remember how to play?” Bucky asks. “Of course.” Steve sounds affronted. “How many years’ve I been losing to you, ya lousy cheat?” “You can’t cheat at dreidel,” Bucky says, laughing. “Punk.” “Jerk.” “I don’t know how!” Rachel says. She kicks Bucky’s knee under the table. “I wanna play!”
❄️Two strangers in the bright lights | Claudia_flies | Explicit | 7,348 words
Listen, listen. It's a holiday fic! It's a post-TWS recovery fic! It's a tower fic! It's a fake dating fic! It's a damn delight, and you should read it. The love-struck, dopey-eyed, total disaster about each other, antics happening throughout this fic are just wonderful, truly. Bucky spends about 85% of this fic practically on Steve's lap . To make the fake dating look real and fool the other Avengers, of course. (Obviously, we need to do it this way, Steve! It has to be convincing, Steve!) And Steve spends about 85% of this fic absurdly happy about Bucky doing just that, and also noticing that doing these things seems to make Bucky happy, and then being even happier because Bucky is happy — but then not examining that too closely, because, you know, Bucky is clearly just really good at this plan and super committed to it. A joy of a fic that's so much fun to read.
Quote:
Steve finds the tablet discarded among the multitude of cushions on the couch while waiting for their new French press to finish brewing, and as soon as he touches the screen, it opens on a web page titled ‘10 Cute Holiday Winter Dates To Go On With Your Boyfriend’ written in an obnoxiously cutesy script. The first one on the list is ice skating, and the next one is decorating the tree together. Each bullet point is accompanied by a cheap stock photo and some inane text about why this particular date is suitable for a cute winter romance. Gently, Steve closes the tablet and carefully places it back where he found it. He pours the coffee into two matching mugs and carries them into the still-dark bedroom. Bucky mumbles something resembling a “thank you” from underneath several pillows and most of the covers as Steve places the steaming cup on his bedside table. Steve smiles and climbs back into the bed, sitting up against the headboard with his coffee and a book. It’s probably the most perfect Sunday morning he’s had in a lifetime.
❄️(I'll be home for Christmas) if only in my dreams | crinklefries | Teen | 13,728 words
A 5+ 1 that looks at 5 earlier holidays, but starts and ends on the current one, one that Steve and Bucky are spending together, in Wakanda. It's an emotional gut punch of a fic, in the best and most satisfying of ways. I love the holidays this fic chooses to showcase, the little stories it chooses to tell, and the moments it chooses to share. I love the wonderfully sweet holiday tradition it creates for Steve and Bucky. I love the way that tradition becomes something that is so important and so meaningful that they're able to keep it, even when it should have been impossible. Really gorgeous stuff.
Quote:
For the first time since his capture, Bucky feels safe. They’re in a fucking goddamn ditch killing fucking goddamn Nazis on fucking goddamn Christmas, but Bucky can hear Steve’s heart beat, strong and steady under his ear, and he feels safe. Maybe because it’s Christmas day, but there are no shots fired. It’s mostly quiet, the group of them in their respective ditches, tensed, just waiting. Someone--Dugan, he thinks, or maybe Gabe Jones--starts singing a Christmas song and then the rest of the start singing too. Steve’s never had much of a singing voice, but he tries and Bucky tries not to smile.
AU Holiday Fics
☃️'tis the damn season | chicklette | Explicit | 4,625 words
A fic about a Steve and Bucky who grew up together, were together as teenagers, and who, if they're being honest, have been in love their whole lives. But they're adults now, and they refuse to hold each other back. This a general premise that comes up decently often in Stucky AUs, and I'm typically into it for them. I can see these two and their stubborn, self-sacrificing ways, each deciding that they were the thing stopping the other from a goal/plan/the general idea of growing up. It's a very specific sort of exes-to-lovers story, and it leads to a very specific feelings reveal, one that's not "I'm in love with you," but instead, "I've never gotten even a little bit over you." It's something that can work so well for these two, sometimes, and this fic is an example of it being done just absolutely gorgeously. It's warm and painful and sexy all at once — until its wonderfully romantic resolution.
Quote:
Steve’s hair is a little long on top, and he’s rocking a scruffy beard, and fuck him for looking so goddamned good. It isn’t fair, Bucky thinks, mixing the drink. It isn’t fair that he looks so fucking good, that he looks exhausted and stressed out and kind of sad, and he’s still the best thing Bucky’s ever seen. It isn’t fair that Steve shows up every year at Christmas and it is Christmas, it’s a fucking gift and Bucky looks forward to it all damn year, but this year there was a little dread too because every year it takes him a little longer to let go.
☃️I've got a lot to pine about | cable-knit-sweater @cable-knit-sweater | Mature | 6,113 words
I just love a fic about people who are having Totally Very Casual sex, and who are both convinced they are the only person in this situation who has developed feelings. A fic about people who are pining while actively hooking up. 10/10. Great trope. This fic is that trope, used at Christmas, and it's wonderful. There are so many feelings! There are ridiculously cute seasonal activities! There are sweet holiday gestures! There are two absolute idiots in love, being painfully obvious about how in love they are — while both being certain, just completely convinced, that the other is definitely only here for the casual sex! There is a romantic holiday resolution! Just a complete delight.
Quote:
Once they get there, though, he forgets about his worries and actually has a good time. There’s a small Christmas market, a stall with hot chocolate and apple cider, and he’s surrounded by his friends. Even Steve seems to be feeling a little better about the whole festive season, and Bucky likes to think he played a hand in that.  What makes it all even better is that Steve is wearing the earmuffs Bucky bought him. He looks ridiculously cute, like Bucky’d expected. The fact that Nat tells Steve he looks cute and makes him blush and grumble a little annoyedly, makes it absolutely perfect.  At some point, he doesn’t get away with just staying on the sidelines and sipping his hot chocolate, and Steve drags him onto the ice. He must notice how Bucky is a little nervous.  “I’ll hold your hand?” Steve offers. “I’ll make sure you don’t fall. I got you.”
☃️If Only in My Dreams | odetteandodile | Teen | 28,317 words
A holiday rom-com. A joy. Sweet, trope-filled, funny, and so very romantic. This fic has a Hallmark Channel-worthy premise in the most fun and most wonderful way. I am a firm supporter of Steve and Bucky getting to have a rom-com life. Instead of, you know, the relentless tragedy of canon. I also really enjoy that, unlike many actual Hallmark Movies, the central conflict continuing to be a conflict throughout the fic is completely believable and understandable. And then, when we get to the end, it's all resolved in such a satisfying (and romantic! and lovely!) way.
Quote:
He’s been so good today, so laser-focused on taking Sam’s advice to heart and throwing his all into his work—into cementing this dream he’s been working toward for nearly three years. It was steadying to apply himself to the tangible things he could make and do, utterly rooted in reality. But the thing is—Steve is real. He may look like a fantasy somebody invented to torture Bucky this week, but he’s a flesh-and-blood person. And he’s looking back at Bucky like Bucky is the dream guy. Bucky doesn’t make a move to step any closer. All of his words and common sense have abandoned him. So he just stands with his heart hammering foolishly against his ribs at the edge of the room. Steve doesn’t look away. But after a moment he squares his shoulders and stands, his full height and broad chest emphasized under the cut of his uniform, light glinting off the medals and ribbons on his coat.
☃️Whose arms will hold you | biblionerd07 | Gen | 10,843 words
The first of two fics on this list to feature a holiday road trip home from college, a snowstorm, and, yes, only one bed. This one is a meet-cute, and wow, is it cute. Seriously, this fic is just so, so very sweet. When I was pulling this list together, I quickly reread over this fic and hit a moment that made my breath catch when I remembered what was about to happen. It's a moment that made me think, "Oh god, that's right. This is that fic!" And then my heart did a fluttery thing. Also, we've got an alive and well Sarah Rogers in this one, and the conversations Steve has with her are just as lovely and delightful as everything else about this fic.
Quote:
"I didn't realize you were trying to impress me." "Why wouldn't I be?" James says, arching an eyebrow in a way that makes Steve's stomach lurch a little. Is James flirting with him? He can feel his cheeks heating up a little. James is apparently oblivious to his internal turmoil, because he goes to his duffel and roots around. He emerges with a pack of cards. "Wanna play?" Steve doesn't know how to play poker. But James doesn't know how to play gin, so they're sort of at an impasse until Steve says, "Well…what about Go Fish?" And that's how two grown college-students end up playing Go Fish on a dusty motel bedspread, eating apple pie that tastes a little old but not terrible.
☃️Not the same river at my fingertips | giselleslash | Expicit | 11,021 words
And now the second road-trip-home-from-college-for-the-holidays (but then a snowstorm! And a motel room!) fic on my list. This one is not a random ride-share meet-cute. This one is about a Steve and Bucky who had a one-night stand years ago, and who haven't stopped thinking about each other since. But: miscommunication. So they're both pretty sure the other has never given them a second thought. But it's fine because they're both totally okay about that. They're very mature about it, okay? They can handle this road trip without any weird tension. They definitely won't make things worse by talking about the thing where they're each convinced the other doesn't like spending time with them. And the combination of the tension, the memory of their one-night stand, and the fact that they're both, actually, obsessed with each other will absolutely not lead to anything at all when they have to get a motel room to wait out a snowstorm. Not even when there is, of course, only one bed.
Quote:
“You’ve brought me a truly beautiful feast.” Bucky laughed at that and Steve instantly felt a hundred percent warmer than he had before. Even Bucky’s fucking laugh was sexy. It was horrible. Bucky had slipped off his boots and grabbed two of the plastic cups from the small tray that held them and an ice bucket. “Gimme,” he said as he waved his fingers at the bottle of tequila Steve still had clutched in his hand for some reason. He handed over the tequila and Bucky crawled onto the bed with it. He sat cross-legged in the middle of the bed and patted the mattress next to him. “Bring the food and hop on,” he said. Steve got the food containers and did just that.
Bonus:
⛄Here Comes Santa Claus | AidaRonan | Explicit | 6,755 words
So, as I've mentioned before, I hesitate to include recs for fics that are primarily smut (and very, very little plot) on these themed rec lists. Mostly because primarily smut fics are just sorta their own thing. That is a theme. But. I'm making an exception, because truly, you guys, here in Stucky we've got fics for so many scenarios. There is just fic for a seemingly endless amount of scenarios. For instance, there's this one. It's Santa Steve fic about, well, Steve, as Santa (but looking like Steve!), repeatedly visiting (an adult!) Bucky on Christmas, and it eventually leading to sex in Santa's sleigh. And, really, I've gotta say, I love that for us. I love that this fic exists. So I felt like I had to include it with these holiday recs. Even if it very much is primarily smut.
Quote:
“You’re standing under the mistletoe,” Bucky says, and Steve looks up. “Huh. How ‘bout that,” he says, before going back to his work. “What’s the rule if you’re under the mistletoe alone? Jerk off?” “Jesus, are you allowed to talk like that?” “I can talk however the fuck I want.” “Pretty harsh language from Santa Claus.” “Language is a construct like time and gender. And ‘fuck’ is really fun to say. Harsh consonants. So satisfying.” Santa slides a small gift box between branches in the tree. “Besides, no one but you is awake to hear me.”
Happy holidays!

EVERYONE SHUT UP I HAVE A THOUGHT™️
Remember the whole debate around Heartstopper that forced Kit Connor to come out publicly because "straight actord shouldn't play queer characters" or something?
What if this was the reason Marvel never gave us any of the gay ships, especially Stucky, as canon? Maybe they knew that people would lash out at Chris and Seb cause they're both straight (as far as anyone knows) and say Marvel should've hired queer characters from the start?
So instead they didn't make it canon, rather they left it to the actors to hint at the ship and that's why Chris, Seb and I think probably some Marvel writers have always tried to support Stucky as openly as possible. And that's why our boys have so much chemistry on screen.
Which is why Stucky seems so canon even tho it isn't?
What if they were telling us they're gay without telling us they're gay?
Cause like I saw this one Tumblr post that breaks down the whole Steve-Bucky-Peggy scene in the bar, and the song that plays in the background during that scene apparently has very homoerotic undertones if I remember correctly. How do you accidentally use a song like in a scene as sexually charged as this one?
AND MAYBE ITS THE SAME WITH SYLKI AND LOKIUS. THEY ARE PUSHING A STRAIGHT SHIP TO APPEASE THE AFOREMENTIONED HATERS BUT ALSO SUPPORTING LOKIUS.

Hey Key, do you have a favourite ship of all time or is it really hard to chose from certain couples? As I see you post about a lot of wonderful couples :)
Hi lovely Anon! :)
I got this yesterday morning and I’ve been thinking about it ever since because of course my brain went directly to WinTeam.
I mean, they’re definitely the ship I’ve written most about. 38% of the fics on my current AO3 account are about WinTeam. :’)
Tumblr media
Buuuut there were a lot of, like, formative ships that I didn’t write much or anything about. And they’re ships I always go back to whenever I’m between fandoms or just in the mood for something familiar and loved.
Like RayK/Fraser from due South! They were a massive part of my teen years in fandom. If you haven’t seen it, please give it a watch! It’s all remastered and up for free on YouTube! They still mean the world to me, and some of my favorite fics of all time are about them.
Tumblr media
And then there’s merthur, whose meteoric and enduring impact on fandom should be studied by science. I read Awake by Cori Lannam and cry at least once a year.
Tumblr media
There’s klance, who are loud and annoy each other and were never going to be canon and VLD was always going to be a catastrophe (who doesn’t keep a story bible to keep track of their own show), but the components for an incredible dynamic were there and fans did what fans do best and made gorgeous, heart wrenching fanworks that surpassed anything in canon for me.
Tumblr media
I also love Stony, but I want to clarify that, like, most of my love doesn’t come from the extremely bro-y Marvel movies. I was intrigued by Chris Evans and RDJ’s portrayal of Steve and Tony back when I first saw Avengers, so I came home, opened Tumblr, and looked for the movie fandom that surely already existed. What I found more of, unsurprisingly, was comic fandom, and the more I found out about Steve and Tony in the comics, the more I was underwhelmed by the movies. So basically, the main reason I’m not into Stucky is because Stony fans presented this canon head explosion from the comics first:
Tumblr media
There’s also drarry and wolfstar, and I love them the same way I love klance: the source material is disappointing, but the components for greatness were there, and fandom elevated them.
Okay so! Those were all fanon ships, and I always knew none of them were ever going to become canon (though Merlin’s, uh, debatable, maybe discussable—“the man he loves is dying so he’s holding him” REALLY), so I kind of think of them in a separate but equal category to the canon ships.
WHICH ARE:
Tumblr media
Viktuuri is one of those ships that just feels like shelter for me. Just, Yuri on Ice was made with such devotion. Not just love, but passion. There’s no antagonist, just Yuuri’s own anxiety and Viktor painstakingly learning to understand and speak a mutual language so he can coax art and beauty and sincerity from Yuuri’s exhausted and heartbroken soul. I’ll always love them extra special.
Tumblr media
These two trainwrecks.
Tumblr media
KongArt! The whole arc of Kongphob and Arthit’s relationship in SOTUS is just so satisfying and beautiful to me, I just rewatched it with friends in January and I’m already rewatching it again with a different friend now. :’)
Tumblr media
WENZHOU. I’m also rewatching Word of Honor and just having a marvelous time re-experiencing just how unhinged they are for each other. “YOUR SON WAS KIDNAPPED WHILE YOU WERE ROLLING AROUND IN THE DAISIES” “ah” “thanks for killing the moment”
And honestly there are more ships I love, but that wasn’t your question!
Of all time.
Hmm.

I think I'm just realizing I've been so deeply shellshocked by Endgame... It has literally taken me 4 years to finally, finally start mourning it
I just... Please if there's anyone out there willing to talk to me because how can I tell anyone in my close circle I'm mourning a MOVIE
And not just that, I'm mourning it 4 years later
I guess it really is the stages of grief and I've lived in denial for 4 years because I simply just couldn't bring myself to believe a franchise that I have absolutely adored and poured all my love and trust... Kicked me back like that... And after giving me a movie that was everything I could've asked like... I just don't know how to say it and I'm sorry I'm using tumblr as a personal journal but I simply have to put it down for words.
Endgame for me was everything.
It reunited storylines, characters and even made dumb internet jokes canon
That's America's ass
I can still cry of joy and laugh at so many scenes I still remember softly so to admit it's actually garbage... Would mean I'd have to admit nearly 10 years of dedication have gone down the drain and everything I loved is now gone and my trust was severely used.
I'm broken
And for me personally it really just boils down to one fcking character
Sure I've seen talk about other characters but my main favorite, my all time beloved my just everything
Steve
Steve steve oh god I can't take it, I can see why they did what they did, they do have real life restrictions like the actors' contracts and the fact is a movie and just their plain open "white male writers" but... It's my Steve, I've been rooting for him and emotionally attached myself to him so bad
I still remember the fxking joy I had watching every movie, the absolute sheer glee when I was gifted an avengers vase because it had been everything to me
Steve's ending broke me and not just as a stucky shipper but a steve fan and a bucky fan and yes I absolutely knew stucky WOULD NEVER be canon like trust me I knew, never asked for it to be true, didn't even engage with the hashtag GiveCapABoyfriend but I at least expected them to end together as in friendship as in finally journeying together this new world after the main threat was finally over, their fight for each other finally welding results.
Now I have to live with Steve's BULLSHIT ending that not only breaks their own premise on time travel, it also breaks the foundation that is Steve, breaks everything that's been building up straight up from his introduction and literally the third fxking movie in this mega cinematic universe
And ofc since this is a connected cinematic universe of fcking course they have to rub it in my face.
I see you the falcon and the winter soldier and partially loki since he is directly from their disastrous time heist.
I'm starting to understand why I can't enjoy this anymore and only marginally have with production that have minimal contact with the source
Aka Eternals, Black Panther (although this mostly because of Namor and maya cultura and I am mexican so) and Shang Shi, I do get a punch in the gut like in Eternals and Shang Shi like everything goes back to normal as if fcking half the population did not just left and magically all went back and just everything was back to normal and just occasionally mentioned?
Bitch we couldn't stop talking about covid and has been the main topic for as long as it happened and it took years for it to truly just be a passing topic and these mf be like oh shame well carrying on
There's not a single movie I look forward to watching and I'm still debating on seeing the marvels and if I did it would just be out of curiosity but honestly now that I'm letting out my tears... I don't want to, i never liked how Carol has been handled, mind you, not her, I love her but her character has been severely butchered since her introduction and also at this point I don't even know what they are building and also now I'm not even sure I care.
I dread the next cap movie and thunderbolts because I know I'm going to see them wh0re out Bucky until his last breath as if he hadn't just being dumped by his best friend and only connection to the past, sure he can make new friends, Sam is but it's not the same you know?
I don't know what to do with myself and I have to keep it together and pretend I'm a functioning adult just doing their 9 to 6 as if my head isn't splitting in half

Fic Writer Interview
I was tagged by @determamfidd, hello darlin’!
How many works do you have on AO3? 61
What's your total AO3 word count? 1,027,599
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
My top 3 are Glee (when I started on AO3, but not when I started publishing fanfic), Tolkien (Main fandom for many years), and Star Wars (longest fandom) - but, I have others including fandoms in which I barely remember writing anything - mostly because they were crossovers, lol.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Old Man Luke
Comes Around Again
Ex Delicto, De Novo Ad Infinitum
An (un)Fortunate Haunting
Finding Comfort.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Not usually, though I have on occasion. I used to be more prolific with it, but then Comes Around Again blew up and I couldn’t keep up. I always read them, however, and they make me smile.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Chapter 6/Day 6 of Changes. Spoilers, but it’s Legolas prepping Gimli for burial - but day 7 is reincarnation AU! They get their happy ever after, in every life. I don’t DO angst if there’s no comfort.
Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you've written?
LOTR/Starsky and Hutch. Or possibly LOTR/Star Wars (which was inspired by another author, whom I’m not sure wants to be associated with it). I’ve also written Teen Wolf/Supernatural, but I don’t think that’s as crazy.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I think most authors who hit a certain level of readership do, unfortunately. I’ve never been personally attacked, thankfully (save for one comment on a tumblr fic prompt idea that I had that accused me of stealing ideas, but I have no idea what they were talking about), but I get the “oh, this wasn’t to my tastes” or “ew, you chose this?/made this character choice?” kinda thing - mostly on Old Man Luke. There have been some *Debates* in the comment section about my interpretation of the canon - often making reference to parts of legends that I have no exposure to, like the video games.  Weirdly, I’ve gotten a few that were mad that I used Old Luke from the sequels, even though it’s clearly a different take on what Old Luke could have been. *shrug*
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
yuuuup. Published in a book, even. That was M/F. In fandom, it’s mostly slash, occasionally het/MMF. I’ve written lesbians, but I’m not sure they’re anywhere readable these days, it was a while ago.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I’m aware of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yep! I Know It When I See It is in Russian, and others that aren’t formally connected. And podfics, too!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, some Trek fics with an author who has since left fandom as a whole.
What's your all time favorite ship?
I don’t have one that supersedes all others, but I do have one that will dominate each fandom. So, Gigolas is my favorite for LOTR. Quiobi for Star Wars, Stucky for Marvel, Mingcheng for the Untamed (my most dominant rarepair). But honestly, in most cases, if it’s well written I’ll read it. I’m not down for incest ships, tho.
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
I’m having a hard time thinking of what comes next for Two Weeks - that fic changes so much from the original idea. It was supposed to be a beach episode!
What are your writing strengths?
Um. I’m better at identifying weaknesses, but I’ve had people say that my writing is “professional” which - I would hope, considering my degree, haha. I’ve been told that I’m good at description and dialogue.
What are your writing weaknesses?
plot, setting, punctuation
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I tend to leave it in English if the pov character is supposed to understand it, as it helps facilitate the “you know what this character knows” thing. If they don’t understand, I don’t tend to write out the dialogue. That’s my preference: I certainly enjoy fic with dialogue in another language, especially Russian or Latin, as those are the two I studied.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
....Muppet Babies, the one from the 80s. I was in, like, kindergarten and just learning to write. It was in my journal. But, when I knew what I was doing was fanfic? Due South.
What's your favorite fic you've written?
Drowned in Moonlight, which was my tribute to Carrie Fisher when she passed, and Legacy and Finding Comfort, both of which were written in one sitting.  However, I am a little in awe of what Comes Around Again has become, seemingly when I wasn’t looking. And Ex Delicto was fun, though if I wrote it today, I’d make it more clearly segmented.
I tag @piyo13 and @punsbulletsandpointythings and anyone who wants to do it!

Hi! The first thing I want to say is Happy Valentine’s Day, thank you for existing, I love you, and you and Minnie literally keep me alive. The second thing is, my friends and I got into a huge stucky vs steggy rant with someone who insisted that Steve’s ending was beautiful and he deserved to do something selfish for once. Said person stated that the reason why men don’t express emotions is because every time they do, people like us ship them. Could you help me win this? Thank you so so much!❤️
Hey! Happy valentine’s day to you too!
Okay so as far as the stucky vs steggy debate goes, Im personally not super invested in it. I feel like the ending of endgame was easy for me to ignore because it was, in my opinion, incredibly ooc.
Now, I agree that Steve deserves to be selfish but I think the problem was that his selfishness was at the expense of a lot of other people (Peggy, her husband, and her kids, not to mention Sam, Bucky, Wanda, and the remaining avengers who are all dealing with the fallout of losing two of their own).
Steve’s story wasn’t ever super tied to Peggy. Markus and McFeely even said that the extent of their relationship was that “they kissed once” (although they said that in defense of the Sharon/Steve storyline that they were pushing at the time). Steve suddenly calling Peggy the love of his life in endgame was pretty out of the blue because the past couple of movies there was barely any mention of her (and her funeral in Civil War was used as a backdrop for the basis of Staron getting together).
Okay, and the last point that “men don’t express emotions is because every time they do, people like us ship them” is kind of ridiculous lmao. There’s no shortage of movies and tv shows centered around platonic male freindships (theres a whole buddy cop and heterosexual life partner genre ffs). I don't think there was a single stucky shipper that expected Stucky to become canon at the end of endgame but we sure as fuck didn't expect it to be sidelined in the way it was. It was obvious and shocking enough that numerous news articles (such as this one) commented on how weird it was that Steve and Bucky barely got any interaction together in endgame.
Also, Steve and Bucky’s relationship mirror romantic relationships more than platonic ones tbh. After TFA came out, barely anyone shipped them and that movie had the most “best friend/ men expressing emotions vibes” out of all the Cap movies. It wasn't until TWS that Stucky became huge and immediately became the biggest marvel ship.
I read an article once about how Bucky’s character is written in ways most female love interests are typically written which is probably why so many women latched onto his character and identified with him so much. In TFA, he was Steve’s reason for becoming Captain America and “needed rescuing” and Bucky’s “death” was Steve’s reason for becoming an Avenger since it was what made the fight personal for Steve. In TWS, he returns in a “femme fatale” type role and is freed via the power of love and in CW he becomes the reason for the break up of the Avengers since Steve “chooses Bucky”. Anyway, the point is that throughout the movies, Bucky is shown in the “love interest role” more than any other character.
TL;DR: There’s no shortage of male platonic relationships in movies and tv shows, people interpreting Steve and Bucky’s relationship as something more makes a lot of sense since their relationship mirrors a romantic one. Steve’s ending with Peggy felt really out of the blue and his ending was seen as weird by shippers, antis, and Sebastian Stan alike sooooo
Sorry that was so rambly and probably not really helpful. Anyway, screw the haters I don’t think it really matters what other people think, stories are meant to be open to interpretation so however you choose to read it and feel about it is valid.

Not my Steve (please share!)
Alright, it took me three days to digest Avengers: Endgame enough to be able to write this rant and it’s SOLELY about Steve Rogers. Please, read and share if you agree ‘cause I believe that there are things that Marvel should be made aware of.
Thanks for the help, love you all xx Obviously, spoilers from now on.
Tumblr media
First thing I wanna say is that I loved the movie, I found it a great homage and the rightful conclusion after 11 years of movies, and the right conclusion for so many characters with their specific arc and personal development (never been a fan of Tony Stark, but I truly appreciated his arch in the movie). Except for Steve Rogers. Here’s why.
I found Steve splendid and so well made throughout the whole movie, him trying to help others to move on but at the same time being unable to do it himself exactly because Steve is Steve, because of what he represents. I LOVED the fact that they let him hold Mjolnir -honestly, it was long overdue.  (There’s a bit of a debate about whether or not he should have been able to call the lightning: we know that both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker are catalysts that help Thor direction his own lightning, and in that sense Steve shouldn’t be able to do it. But it’s also true that in the first Thor Odin said “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor”.)
But let’s get to the true problem, the absolute bullshit, the denial of 10 years of work on the character: THE ENDING. There are literally tons of reasons why this conclusion doesn’t work, let’s start from the more obvious ones. And please, note that I’m saying all this not because I personally ship Stucky -I doubt that any Stucky shipper in their right mind would have expected for it to become canon, honestly-, I’m saying his because I’m a person with eyes and that’s enough to realize that there’s something terribly wrong with this choice. Regardless of whatever I wanted or hoped for Steve in this movie.
I find this conclusion an utter and complete disservice to a character who’s had his arc and a specific characterisation: it negates all the efforts, the pain, all the space in the world that Steve managed to carve out for himself in the 21st century. It’s a disservice to Peggy who loses her autonomy as a character, who loses her personal history -we know from TWS that she was married, with kids at least a niece that we know of, she lived her life. It’s a disservice to her own words “none of us can go back, sometimes the only thing we can do is start over”- WHICH, just to remind everyone, was also a quote used in one of the Endgame teasers. I’m saying all this despite the fact that I personally appreciated Peggy very much and despite having loved Peggy and Steve together at the times of TFA. And moreover, after all the pain, the family that Steve managed to create for himself, the battles he fought, what does Steve do? He goes back? He goes back instead of going forward? Steve, “the kid from Brooklyn too dumb not to run away from a fight”, Steve fucking Rogers RUNS AWAY and goes back to the past? Steve denies himself, abandons everyone and goes to the past? No way, no fucking way. I swear I’ve never seen so much OOC in one scene.
There’s also the problem of the potential huge plot hole. There are two options: let’s break it down.
Option 1: Steve goes back to the 1950s, marries Peggy and, as suggested by the timetravel theory used in the whole movie, he creates an alternative timeline to the main one where they live together. And where he (presumably, I hope) goes to save Bucky to prevent 70 years of torture, brainwashing and conditioning, and to prevent the reconstruction of Hydra. Then again, presumably after Peggy’s death in this alternative timeline, he travels through the quantic realm again and gets back to the main timeline where he meets Sam and Bucky. Problems with this option? Well, it doesn’t contradict the timetravel theory of the movie, but there’s still the problem of the other Steve in the alternative timeline, who’s currently frozen in the Arctic. What happens to him?
Option 2: Steve goes back to the 1950s, marries Peggy, he doesn’t create a different timeline and simply lives his life to the point that he meets with Sam and Bucky in 2023, as it seems to be suggested by the fact that Steve is already there, sitting on the bench, when Bucky spots him. He doesn’t get there through the portal. Problems with this option? TONS. First of all, it contradicts the whole timetravel theory of the movie (see above), it implies that at some point Old Steve and Young Steve must have coexisted, and especially it implies that Steve radically changed the past. If he marries Peggy, Peggy doesn’t marry her husband, and the whole future should change. Does it mean that Steve has been Peggy’s husband all along, like in a time loop? Then does it mean that he kissed his own nephew? Sharon *coughs* Carter? As you can see, there are HUGE problems with this option.
But let’s move on from these incongruences for the moment and let’s get to the other utter bullshit: BUCKY BARNES (how handsome was Sebastian Stan in the three seconds that he was on camera by the way?). Now, whether one believes that between Steve and Bucky there’s a romantic interest or just a platonic, brotherly love, it doesn’t really matter. Bucky and Steve’s dynamic has been the focus of the whole Captain America trilogy, and there’s no denying that. Steve, when he tries to distract his double in the 2012 timeline, says “Bucky’s alive”, and honestly that’s the most honest moment dedicated to their relationship, and Bucky wasn’t even there! They drowned us for a whole trilogy with “I’m with you till the end of the line” moments, and the only thing that they leave us with, and the very end, it’s a come back from the first movie with “Don’t do anything stupid until you get back” and the famous reply “How could I? You’re taking all the stupid with you”, and THAT’S IT? Steve goes to live his life and all the best to everyone? Not even a word once he comes back as Old Steve, he’s just there to pass the shield to Sam?  Bucky, the best friend of a lifetime? Bucky for whom Steve fights against the Avengers? Bucky for whom he’s ready to die, Bucky for whom he’d sacrifice himself thousands of times? Bucky for whom he stormed into a Hydra base without proper training and without even knowing if his friend was alive? Bucky for whom he gave up the shield not once, but twice? No way. No fucking way.
This is not about appreciating Bucky and Steve and their dynamic or not, this is about the absurd choice of denying the entire arc of two characters that occupied the space of a whole trilogy. But why?
And come on, Steve’s at least a hundred years old, probably about to die, and they don’t even exchange a few words? I could have handled something like “Hey pal, we made it to the end of the line", I could have lived with that. But not this way. Some part of me tries to think that if anything, at least Steve got to come home from the war. He lived his life. But it’s so terribly wrong, and Steve would never deny himself and his choices, and not because he can’t live without a war, but because he’s always been true to himself. And he would never leave Bucky behind to go back in time and live a life with a woman that -let’s be honest- he knew for two years back in the 40s and with whom he’s already got closure after her death in CA:CW. He moved on. And so did Peggy, to be perfectly honest. Let’s all remind ourselves how utterly destroyed Steve was after Bucky’s ‘death’ and how much he blamed himself: his guilt is literally what moves the two following movies. But the Russos decided to ignore this.
It’s such a horrible thing to do and it’s so unfair that I feel like I want to cry again. And in all of this, Steve didn’t even die, he’s not dead but he doesn’t even get a closure that works for his character. He’s still there, but he’s not really there anymore, is he? And for all those who keep saying how nice is that he got to dance with Peggy, sure it’s nice. But then you really don’t know Steve Rogers at all.
In conclusion, I loved the movie and I’m totally happy with it as a farewell to the MCU as we know it, as a farewell to characters like Tony and Natasha. The only discordant note, sadly, is Steve and his dynamic with Bucky. I don’t know if the Russos did it cause the shipping fandom made them uncomfortable, and honestly, I don’t even want to know. It’s just something that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive Marvel for. And they need to know.

soooo your thoughts on endgame?
[spoilers ahead]
I have very conflicting thoughts as I’m sure you can imagine lol. 95% of it was utterly fantastic. Such a fun and exciting and intense end to the story they’ve been telling for 10 years. Most of it was SO good. Steve being able to summon the hammer was insane, my theatre screamed its head off when that happened. His perfectly growled “Avengers!!! …assemble” was just. That moment made my whole entire life. Still riding on that high. Obviously I’m so happy they got everyone back. The “On your left” from Sam UGH. MY HEART. I am SO happy he gave the shield to Sam. There’s been debate for a year over whether it would go to Sam or Bucky and I always hoped it would be Sam. Bucky deserves to rest. He is still healing from incredible trauma and trying to figure out where he fits in this world, he doesn’t need that pressure on his shoulders on top of everything else. Sam as Cap is utterly perfect.
So many funny moments, Scott Lang is a gift that we do not deserve, he absolutely killed me. Bruce too, omg he was so funny in this one, give Mark Ruffalo all the comedic roles from here on out he has FANTASTIC comedic timing. Natasha. Ugh. My heart will never be healed from that one. I didn’t see her death coming at all until they got to Vormir and I remembered the soul stone requires a sacrifice and my heart just sunk because of course she wouldn’t let it be Clint, not when he has kids to get back to that she loves like they’re her own. Her death was so intense and tragic (and is there grievance to be had for the fact that they killed the first female superhero so she could further the redemption arc of a male character who has always been a less important character than her?? Absolutely. That is a valid criticism and one that I fully agree with, but, some things we just have to make our peace with).
Tony. Didn’t see that one coming either, and although I’m so sad, it was perfect. Tony Stark started this story, it was so fitting that he ended it. The genre of super hero movies changed forever the minute he uttered “I am Iron Man” in the first movie, so it was beautiful writing that they had it be the words he repeated as he sacrificed himself to save the world. Absolutely heartbreaking and perfect.
I have issues with what they did with Thor, as I know lots of people do. He was hilarious, as he always is. And he was a hero at the end, as he also always is. Making a punch-line out of his trauma, was not the most enlightened place they could have gone to with his character. I have mixed feelings about it.
The Battle of New York thing honestly is one of the best scenes in the entire MCU in my opinion. It’s up there with the elevator scene and the bridge fight from Winter Soldier in terms of perfect execution. And so damn creative, the way they integrated this new plot into that old one. Whoever wrote that part gets endless props from me, that was SO clever. And I mean … Steve knocking his past self out, checking out his own ass, “That IS America’s ass”, fucking hysterical. Also give Chris all the comedic roles in the future. That and “I can do this all day!” “Yeahhh I know.” He delivered those lines so perfectly.
(this got longer than I expected is anyone still reading lmao)
So, Steve. Obviously no one will be shocked that the ending is among the 5% of the movie that I didn’t like. I’m not even going to bother going into heavy detail about exactly why, because we all know why. Other people have articulated it better than I could anyway. It was out of character. It was not a choice that the Steve Rogers from the other 6 movies would have made, to the point that imo it borders on being canon divergent. You would really have to throw the entire Cap trilogy in the garbage for his decision to make any sense whatsoever. The Steve Rogers we know would not have fought and fought and fought to get his family back, only to ditch them three days later to go live out a fantasy that he himself admitted (in Age of Ultron) that he didn’t really want anymore. He would not have chosen Bucky time and time again even when it meant giving up EVERYTHING else, just to leave him alone the second he finally got him back. Its not even about Stucky, from a purely platonic standpoint he wouldn’t have done that. It made no narrative or thematic sense. Chris Evans and Steve Rogers both deserved better than that ending. SO, I’ve honestly just head!canoned it out, lol. The Steve of the Cap trilogy and the Steve of the last three minutes of Endgame can’t both exist at the same time because they are in direct opposition to each other, so they don’t. In my mind, Endgame’s ending is not canon. And that probably makes no sense to anyone else but it makes sense to me, so that’s what I’m going with.
All in all I fucking loved it. The time travel stuff was not very well explained and there are a bunch of plot holes, and a bunch of places where they didn’t follow their own time travel rules lmao (sooo many of those have been pointed out and I just have to laugh. The Avengers movies are honestly more enjoyable if you don’t spend too much time thinking about them). It was still a fantastic, epic, gorgeous end to an incredible story and a magical decade, and I can pretty easily scrub away the ending and create my own better ending. I’m good with it.
As a last thought, Chris. Chris motherfucking Evans, guys. Can we just. I want to send him endless thank you cards and fruit baskets. This wonderful, beautiful man took on this HUGE, important, wildly intimidating role, knowing it would be hard and terrifying and so much pressure, having a lot of anxiety about it but having the courage to do it anyway. No other actor could have brought Steve to life quite like he did. No other actor could have embodied the spirit of Steve so perfectly. Steve Rogers is such an amazing, amazing character, originally created for such incredibly powerful reasons, and god we just owe Chris so much for giving us Steve in the way he did. I’m gonna be in my feelings about THAT for the rest of my dumb life. Steve Rogers in the way Chris portrayed him is absolutely worthy of wielding the Mjolnir. I hope he goes to sleep every night for the rest of his life super proud of himself, because he deserves it. The heavy lifting he got to do in Endgame was fully earned and deserved, and Steve’s scenes were definitely the best parts.
If RDJ is the face of the MCU, Chris Evans is the heart. He gave us the absolute most incredible portrayal of Steve Rogers we ever could have hoped for.

Fandom’s Favorite Fallacies
Fandom loves to use shitty arguments to make its opinions ‘right.’ Allow me to arm the victims of their bullshit with the twin weapons of knowledge and defense. Knowing these arguments are shit, and have been recognized in debate and logic circles as shit, may help you all hold your heads high when the next purist stan comes storming in looking to silence you.
Fallacy #1: Judgmental Language (An Appeal to Emotion Fallacy, which is a Type of Ad Hominem Fallacy)
This one’s the most popular attack when it comes to the subject. Acting as if the things they dislike are contemptible is a quick way to get idiots who read others’ feed without critically thinking on their own to mindlessly agree, simply because the person made the thing they don’t like seem really bad. It is often inaccurate and, as it’s a type of red herring, usually has little to nothing to do with any original point, save to make the subject seem so awful it doesn’t deserve any real discussion at all.
Examples: 1) “Kingdom Hearts’ Terra is an idiot. Because he trusted people too easily, he ended up causing countless problems.” 2) “The Sokovia Accords are written by people who are just out for power and control.” 3) Tony Stark’s war profiteering was what caused him trouble in the films.”
Fallacy #2: Poisoning the Well (An Ad Hominem Fallacy)
This one’s the most popular attack when it comes to speaking of the opponent. Acting as if their opponent is reprehensible is a great way to malign opponents into silence and a phenomenal way to get idiots who don’t think to also attack someone, as well, and repeat the insults as if they are factual.
Examples: 1) “You don’t like this female character because you’re a misogynist!” 2) “Putting those two characters together is supporting pedophilia!” 3) If you put two white characters together when you could ship them with a black character, you’re racist.”
Fallacy #3: Abusive Fallacy (A Red Herring Fallacy)
This one’s the other side of the same coin to #2. Instead of insulting anyone who might stand against them or make a certain argument, they deliberately verbally attack someone who says what they don’t like. This one is not only a good way to just bully someone into submission; it also allows others to do the same.
Examples: 1) “Fuck you, you misogynistic asshole.” 2) “You like that ship? You’re a pervert. Pedophile.” 3) Of course someone like you likes Tony Stark. You’re an idiot with a giant ego, so of course you like a character just like you.”
Fallacy #4: Argumentum Ad Populum, or The Bandwagon Fallacy (A Red Herring Fallacy)
They’re right because a large number of people agree that they’re right. This one is usually used to try to bring in others who agree with them in order to ‘prove their point.’
Examples: 1) Lots of people love Steve Rogers, so your hate is just bullshit. 2) Terraqua is so beloved by fandom it’s pretty much canon. 3) Nobody cares if you don’t like Wanda Maximoff. She’s super popular.
Fallacy #5: Argumentum Ad Verecundiam, or Appeal To Authority (A Red Herring Fallacy)
Someone in some position of power said it, so it must be so. This one’s usually used with the whole ‘Author Is God’ shit. So if a producer or writer or actor says it, it is absolutely true and must never be questioned. Another way to try to silence an opponent by acting as if they can’t know as much as the person whose arguments they’ve decided they like.
Examples: 1) Jensen Ackles hates Destiel, so it’s never been a thing in the show, not even so much as hinted at. Get over it. 2) There was an interview in which Nomura said Terra is around twenty, so he is. Period. Yeah, Nomura also said he never considered it before, but he answered the question, so that’s how old he is. 3) The producer said Tony Stark was trying to kill Bucky, so he really was. It doesn’t matter what the movie shows or what capabilities other movies have shown Tony to have. The producer confirmed it.
Fallacy #5: Argumentum Ergo Decedo, or Traitorous Critic Fallacy (An Ad Hominem Fallacy)
You aren’t a part of the ‘group,’ so your opinion is not only wrong, but unwanted. Get thyself elsewhere; your statements matter not one whit. A great way to just shoo an opponent away and act as if they have nothing of worth to add to the discussion.
Examples: 1) You don’t like Steve, so of course you dislike Stucky. This post isn’t about you. 2) You don’t even like Dalish elves, so don’t bother talking about their vallaslin. 3) If you don’t like our meta, then just leave.
Fallacy #6: Tone Policing (A Red Herring Fallacy)
You’re being rude, and your tone is argumentative, so no one’s going to listen to what you say. Also, you’re wrong. A wonderful way to shift the entire argument into a discussion on how you should talk. It also tries to shame the other person, so even when they change their tone, they’re still talked down to. Oh, and the arguments they made? They have to start all over, because the other person wasn’t willing to actually read their argument because of the ‘rude tone.’ Literally just a way to avoid answering their opponents arguments or rebuttals.
Examples: 1) I’m not going to listen to anything said with that kind of language. 2) Maybe people would be willing to hear you out if you didn’t sound so aggressive. 3) Change your tone and then we’ll talk.
And Finally, Fallacy #7: Argumentum Ad Nauseum, or Proof By Assertion (An Informal Fallacy)
They keep repeating their shitty argument until people get tired of refuting it. The ensuing lack of opponents leads them to say that, since no one else is bothering to try to argue anymore, they are right.
Examples: 1) Tony Stark is a warmonger. 2) Kingdom Hearts’ Terra made a mess that Aqua had to clean up. 3) Kudos is thanks enough for writing that fanfiction.
Now obviously, these are not the only fallacies used by popular fandom. But these are the ones employed the most often, from what I’ve seen. To those who get attacked with these sorts of arguments, please recognize them for what they are: proof of the person’s idiocy. The people who use these arguments to try to silence or attack others are complete dumbasses. Their opinions are popular because idiots flock together. That’s it. They aren’t right. They aren’t accurate. And using these rebuttals proves they don’t have a leg to stand on.
Ad hominem arguments have long been considered evidence that the opponent has no way to counter your position. It’s the equivalent of handing the victory over to you. The instant your opponent has to insult you in some way, they have run out of arguments. They have been defeated and merely wish to curse you out in their impotence.
You’ve won. So fuck them.

Five Fics Primer
Okay, so you want to know which five fics of mine I like the most and why? I mean, maybe you don’t, but guess what, here’s the list anyway. In no real order. @claraxbarton tagged me so, um, blame her for the results.
Sticking with the new-ish MCU stuff, since that’s really what I’m writing these days, but know that I have some favorites in the GW fandom too.
I guess the most important thing to know about me is I multi-ship like a mofo, so this list is reflective of that, but my OTP is Winterhawk. Or Clucky, or whatever your preferred ship name is.  I came from a fandom that used maths, so I’m a little wtf about the ship names.  And why there are so many.
World War Threesome is an amazing ship name tho, 10/10, good job fandom.
1.  Symphony No. 5 - [E] Winterhawk. A get together involving orchestral performances, unlimited hot dogs, and a giant pig.  I think I did a really good job of capturing oblivious!Clint, determined!Bucky, and so-done-with-dumb-boys!Natasha.  Plus, smut.
2. (my heart is) A Church of Scars - [T] Amerihawk, soulmate AU, featuring low-self-esteem-disaster Clint, and I-have-a-lot-of-emotions Steve.  My best capturing of a non-POV character’s feelings, I think.
3. If You Want Love [T] Stucky, Shrunkyclunks (I think that’s right?) modern Bucky with Cap Steve, matchmaking Peggy, and a re-write of the MCU.  It’s part of a series with slice-of-life ficlets, this is the first.  And the saddest.  But with an optimistic ending?
4. Like Real People Do [E] Winterhawk, Civil War fix it in a magical woodland archer cabin, basically Clint and Bucky re-learning how to people and also falling in love at the same time with a dash of fuck Civil War thrown in.  WIP, but written, just finishing up on the posting aspect.  Only a couple of chapters left to go up.  Sniper assassins falling for each other in a secluded environment.
So I debated a lot on the last fic, because most of my other fics are short and I’m not super in love with them, but in the end I went with:
5. A Slight Change of Plans [E] Winterhawk.  Just a meet-cute, no powers AU thing with some fairly explicit sex in it, but I chose this one because I think I did a pretty good job of dealing with canon disabled character things without making it weird, but still realistic enough to pass muster.  Like there’s acknowledgement that they both have issues, but they don’t make a big deal out of it.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve got, thanks for the tag - to anyone who wants to play along, have at it! My usual suspects have already been tagged but here are a few more: @loonyloopylisa @captn-sara-holmes @shatteredhourglass @aw-hawkeye-no @aw-hawkeye-yes @helmistress @anaranesindanarie @fadedsepiascribbles @redsector-a

10 thoughts about Infinity War
I know it’s been spoiled to hell and back, but I’m not hiding under a cut because of that. I’m hiding it under a cut because nobody wants Infinity War cluttering up their dash.
1. I actually dig Thanos as a villain, but I am not anymore sure that the targets of that insightful move get it anymore than they get that the space nazis of Star Wars are THEM. I mean, it IS an excellently pertinent villain who thinks he can explain his way into a totally fine genocide just because he himself is such a great dude. That’s some ON POINT shit. But did people get that? I don’t think so. I don’t even think MARVEL got that.
2. And I’m not super into the kick-the-can-down-the-road approach to the conflict of Civil War either. That movie was a mess. And it sure as hell didn’t end with Cap’s side being Super Right and Tony’s being Super Wrong the way it did in the comics version. The comics version is so cool because of how it carefully manipulates Tony’s side until he ENDS UP wrong, not because his side is like objectively the bad side. And Civil War also made such a bad case for the underlying disagreement because it ran away from having a message  in favor of prioritizing Stucky. Which. Like. I get how you got distracted, movie, but please. You have to actually do the thing. You can’t have Rhodey just undo the Tony side as if we finished that conversation. Bitch, we never even HAD that conversation.
3. WHY EDINBURGH??? Why is that the romantic hideaway for divine robots and their love interests?? Was Team Steve chilling in Edinburgh??? Did Vision do a jaunt to visit Team Steve or was Team Steve elsewhere and just, what, felt their spidey senses tingling and had to hop to the love scene???
4. Oh god I so do not want that much time spent on the mechanics of a space forge ever again in any movie ever. There were adorable insights into Thor and Peter Dinklage was a delight (as always) but duuuuuuude. Remember how Taika Waititi revealed the crutch of a Thor hammer as a stupid plot point and he’s not even the god of hammers anyway????? Can we get off this I HAVE THE SPECIALIST AXE THIS TIME SO GOOD LET’S ALL TALK ABOUT IT SOME MORE bandwagon PLEASE.
5. Ultimately, I just can’t care about this many deaths at one time. It’s a rush in the end of the film and there have already been too many for my pathos to keep up with. I mean, Idris Elba died. I was stuck on that. I am loving the heartbreaking meta, but guys. It’s too many. And these are comics books movies. AND THEY ALL HAVE SEQUELS COMING UP. They will all be back. I can’t really work up a good sad for something so obviously reversible? Has anyone ever died permanently in the MCU? Even Coulson didn’t.
6. That being said, those were some great last words. “General, get up, this is no place to die” is hardcore. Bucky’s plaintive little “...Steve?” is heartbreaking. Peter Quill’s brotastic, “Oh man” actually made me Feel Things. Someone with some hardcore whump in their soul wrote the last ten minutes of that film. As someone who secretly loves both writing and reading whump, I give you a standing ovation.
7. I am Still Bothered by the stuff about not giving actors full scripts. I could get on my soap box about how fetishizing spoilers has ruined everything but this really just makes my whole case for me. HOW CAN THE ACTORS DO THEIR BEST WORK WHEN THEY LITERALLY DON’T KNOW THE PLOT. HOW. H O W.
8. Please someone say in canon that Valkyrie had to bounce to go hang with an archandroid gf. Please. You know you want to. (Though I did see one speculation that the title of the Captain Marvel movie was going to be Captain Marvel and Valkyrie and like. That’s a pretty good second best.)
9. I am bothered by how many of the “last of their species” characters died in the culling. I am bothered because it doesn’t seem to work with Thanos’s fucked up logic. Like....how does that make the species stronger???? They’re all dead now?????
10. I was teaching James Baldwin’s debate with William F. Buckley from 1965 in class today and thinking about Thanos and I think everyone should know that James Baldwin has all the answers you need about why Thanos’s pov is wrong and stupid and wrong. You should all watch his speech.

WIP  Update -  6 March 2018
WinterIron Discord Key Challenge:  Just got my latest prompt yesterday and am already 2500 words into a non-powered AU where rich!Tony is trying to erase a bit of his past with Bucky's help.  Debating on whether to stretch out the UST a bit so they get to know each other better, or let them hook up now despite the potential business relationship conflict.  My previous Key prompt response (Clearing the Cobwebs) is a WinterIron piece that semi-circumvents the events of CA:CW.  This has been shared with the group and I got some decent feedback.  It will get posted in 3 weekly chapters on Ao3 (linked to the   Misc Prompts and Ficlets series) starting (probably) next week.
2018 Stony Fairy Tale AU Bingo (ends March 17th):   My first (and probably only) square is up to just over 3k words, but I think I need to rewrite the penultimate scene, and then get the final scene written down as well. I was hoping to post this Tony POV  Alice in Wonderland mashup sometime tomorrow, but it will be late in the week, if not early next week.  @hddnone is doing their usual stellar beta’ing - thanks, hon!
I have another Vague Idea for The Ugly Duckling square  (going with the semi-obvious wingfic) but am not sure if that will get written up before the deadline.  None of the other squares are really speaking to me  (tho the idea of  tiny!Tony Thumbelina amuses me greatly), so I think I'm gonna let this go.
That said, I do plan on participating more fully in   @tisfan’s Tony Stark Bingo 2018 Challenge (https://tonystarkbingo.tumblr.com/), , which will be coming up in May.  There's also an  MCU Rolling Remix (https://mcurollingremix.dreamwidth.org/) challenge that sounds interesting - with 2018 signups possibly coming in May.
Avenging Comes in Tiny Packages Contest (due April 9) – Nothing done on this since last week - they're barely on the ground in Wakanda. Current word count is still 5519 for Tony POV, not including the dialogue chunk,  4980 for the other POV, which I need to get caught up to the same point in the overall story.   Since this is due April 9th - the Tony POV fic will go up all at once on or before that date, with the other POV posting sometime later.
Forging the Shield: (Stucky pre-war  a/b/o prequel for To Shield from the Storm): WIP No More!  The final chapter posted last week, and I gave our boys a happy, smutty ending.  We'll pretend we don't know what's coming...
@tisfan collab aka a remix/expansion of   Time Out of Joint: We tag-teamed on Chapter Six [2166 words total] over the past week or so, and in our collab session yesterday, cranked out another almost 1k words, jotting down ideas for how to wrap up that scene and move on.   The plot summary stuff is in play, with some tweaking sure to take place.   If all goes well, this should see the light of day by late March/early April?
Carry On, Wayward Sons –   No progress this week either; no brain space.  Holding on the draft of Chapter 3 until I get some more work done.  The intent is still to match it up with the other StarkQuill/StarkLord piece I threw together awhile ago.  It’s lower priority than the above items, but still a relatively active WIP.
The Shield Split Asunder  (sequel for To Shield from the Storm)  This is probably the next big project to be actively worked, since  Forging is done.  More research is needed here - I did get IM3 and CA:TWS watched this weekend, and purchased the  CA:TWS junior novelization, so I hope to start this in earnest after I turn in my Avenging in Tiny Packages fics. I'm not sure when this will first see the light at the moment... leaning towards summer at the earliest. The fic will be Steve POV and stick as close to canon as I can make it.
The Subtle Briar –  Still nothing new - other projects are demanding my attention. I need a Peggy fan to come kick my butt/cheer me on or I'm afraid this is going to slide into oblivion, and it doesn't deserve it.
I also have a  meet cute WinterIron AU one shot I want to work on that may end up with genderfluid!Tony, and a half-dozen or so other half-baked ideas. I should prob go look at the  @imaginetonyandbucky prompts at some point as well.
As always, any words of encouragement on these projects would be greatly appreciated!

For the salty asks: pick a fandom, turn the first three letters of its name into numbers (A=1, B=2, etc) and answer those questions. (I felt like randomising it a bit.)
So I tried coming up with a fandom that had numbers I hadn’t used yet, and the best I could do was DCEU.  So, I might just jump around fandoms anyway.
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP? So many NoTPs.  So many.  In Marvel, Steve/Bucky always squicked me.  Like, nothing to do with the fandom like most people, just the fact that in MCU for a long while, how much Bucky remembered was up to debate, and any relationship Steve could form with him at that point felt like it would be taking advantage.  So it was basically warped consent issues that turned me off of it, though ya know, stucky shippers are welcome to my blog and good shipping to you!  In DC, pretty much any and all Robin-cest, or Bat fam-cest.  Like, Dick/Barbara doesn’t bother me, but when you get into the more family ties it does.  And anything with Bruce or Damian is just like... no.  I know they’re not actual blood related, but for me the sibling/parent bond is too much of a squick.  But again, happy shipping if you like that sort of thing!  Also, Joker tends to send me to NoTP, regardless of if it’s with Bruce or Harley.  I just stay away from that side of fandom.
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?Does too much “Not All White People” being tossed around in an argument count?  Because I’ve totally unfollowed for that and it was based around a fandom argument.  The person had used that sort of argument before with “Not all _____” and I was kind of getting tired of it.  When they started on the Not All White People rant, I was just done.  I’ve also unfollowed people who posted nothing but hate for everything and anything coming out.  Like, New Who, new comics, and all that stuff that they couldn’t stop watching/reading because “They cared too much” but at the same time couldn’t just let people who do actually care enjoy it.  There’s a few people I’ve unfollowed or refuse to reblog from that I even agree with, but they’re just too aggressive about it?  Like, I don’t care how much I agree with you if you’re doing it at the expense of other people’s enjoyment of fandom and saying they are Wrong and you are Right.  Though I think the last person I unfollowed for fandom opinion was someone pushing Bottom Steve.  And I have virtually no opinion on sexual positions on that sort of thing (and you can ask Ylixia, I totally send her all the stuff I see on my dash, regardless of who is bottoming/crossdressing/submissive).  I’ll totally be willing to see that on my dash as long as you’re not just posting sex stuff (though to be fair, I prefer my dash sfw just due to being Ace, so sex stuff doesn’t come up on my dash all that often for a reason).  But they were just constantly on it and trying to start a position war and if you want things I Absolutely Care Nothing For, position wars is one of them.  Complain about not having enough of a certain thing, sure.  Insist that there’s only one proper way to go about things?  Yeah, no.  I am way too ace for that bullshit.  So I unfollowed that not because I disagreed, but I just didn’t want that sort of fandom drama on my dash.
Five I answered before, so I’ll skip to the U.
21. What are your thoughts on crack ships?I still maintain Cat Grant/J’onn Jonzz is one of the most beautiful pairings I’ve ever come up with.  And let me tell you about JLA/Avengers, because that is pure crack-cross shipping gold.  So many crackships in that comic.  My favorite thing on Gotham was basically they made a canon crackship of Barbara/Tabitha/Butch, which was like, a complete WTF of beauty.  I’ve also written a whole series of fics based around a random pairing generator of Third Doctor/Amy Pond.  So basically, I’m totally all here for crackships.  Crack ships are awesome.  Also, I may have mentioned Harley/Dinah/Ollie earlier and I totally ship that one too.  XD
