Title: No Control (Daisy Johnson x Female!Reader)
Words: 2452
Trigger Warnings: Blood, mind control, manipulation, night terrors, talks of death, horrible grammar (Let me know if I should add more)
[A/n: Okay, I may have deviated from the prompt just a little bit, but in my defense, this is technically my first time writing Reader/Daisy Johnson so I had to feel it out a little!]

The rope dug into your skin like a nasty row of teeth, biting at the skin, drawing a flourishing flash of bright blood. The image made you pull harder in a vicious tug of strength. Your jaw ached, tasted thick of metal. If you could just get out of this stupid chair, this horrible cell. It was much too small for your liking.
Quake, Daisy as you knew her, watched you with a lifted eyebrow. Her fingers were curled around the iPad that connected her to the controls of your containment. She grimaced, a wetness building in her stare.
When your struggle against the ropes had proved fruitless, you glanced up at her through wild, unkept hair, chest heaving. “What did you do to me? Why can’t I get out of this? Let me out of this!”
It felt like you were underwater, your chest heavy with discontent, even when you went slack in your binds. The first inkling that something was wrong had been swallowed down, the nightmares that ripped through your subconscious and pulled you from sleep.
For weeks, you’d wake up drenched in your own sweat as you tried to draw any type of air into your lungs. It often ended with you sitting, exhausted and scared, in the kitchen of the compound. First, you’d drink a cup of tea, then you’d pace and drink another, before finally succumbing to exhaustion on the common room sofa.
Agent May had found you the first night, just before dawn. She didn’t’ poke or prod, instead, she gently woke you and wordlessly gestured back towards your bunk. Other agents would be walking in and out, scourging for breakfast and their own fix of caffeine.
Those dreams- those nightmares- would soon leak into your everyday routine. As you sparred with Bobbie, you’d thrown a particularly deadly right hook. It was the color of her eyes, the seafoam dusty grey that you’d always found so endearing flashed and ripped into his gaze.
You’d drawn blood and stumbled back on the blue mat. Other recruits gaped at the two of you, floating by the edge of the training room. Bobbi pulled her fingers from the laceration on her cheek, already forming a bruise.
“I’m sorry,” came your whispered response. You grabbed your bag from the nearby bench, louder this time “really, I’m sorry.”
Bobbi called after you as you pushed open the doors of the training room and shoved through agents until you made it to the safety of your room. Except, it didn’t’ feel much like safety anymore. Your fingers were shaking, and your knuckles had a smear of dried brown blood, Bobbi’s blood, against them.
It had been years, nearly a decade, since you’d first been approached by Phil Coulson with his grandiose idea of forming a team to take down hero-level threats within SHIELD, because after all, everyone needs a backup plan. And while you’d been hesitant at first, that single decision in a Montanna bar changed the course of your life. Changed your isolation tactics, the person you had once been.
SHIELD was your family. They’d slowly ebbed away the distant memories of what had created you in the first place: the brainwashing, the torture, the misguided loyalty was all on the backburner. You’d forgotten just how cold it was.
Something was wrong. Something was wrong. Something was wrong.
Without warning, the icy hand of your captor was closing around your throat once more, but this time, you were surrounded with people who you cared for. The thought of hurting them had you hunched over the bathroom in your room, retching whatever mint-tea concoction you’d swallowed down hours before.
At one point, you blacked out, and when you came to, when you finally pulled yourself from the scent of bile and blood and regret, you were here. They’d moved you to a containment unit and restrained you with ropes that did no favor to your already aching body.
Your fingers were still coated in blood, too much to be from your outburst in the gym. And while you still panicked, while you were still choked with fear, there was a calmness about the situation. If you were in here, you weren’t out there. With them.
“Whose blood is this?” you asked.
“Hard to say,” Daisy replied. “You did quite the number. It’s hard for agents to fight off a super soldier, you know?”
Your jaw began to ache as you pressed your teeth together, peering at her through strands of sweat-caked hair. The rope wouldn’t hold you for long, but the containment unit would. There was an electric buzz from the forcefield strong enough to hold back ten-thousand super soldiers.
Daisy had a tepid stare trained on you that made you squirm. You tested your strength against your binds, pressing and pressing until the frayed edges drew blood, dripped down the tips of your fingers until the floor was puddled with it.
A laugh bubbled up in your throat. You lolled your head, trying to loosen up your shoulders. Everything was weak and fuzzy and above all else, you felt the hiss of someone’s voice in the back of your mind. Eyes seeing through your eyes, hands gripping past your own.
There was a poison to Daisy’s voice “You just leveled a room full of twenty-five agents and you’re laughing?”
She’d clicked off the iPad, set it aside. Daisy stood and crossed her well-toned arms over her chest. God, even in your disillusioned state, you were acutely aware of your feelings for her. They’d been festering under the surface for a better part of the last three years.
“No, no… I just…”
With an extra tug, the mass of rope fell to the ground in a heap of ties and caked blood. You couldn’t distinguish your own from those of the agents that you be felled. Your fingers worked at the lacerations.
“You’ve got a very motherly tone right now. I mean, you’re scolding me, actually scolding me!”
“What do you expect me to do, y/n? What I witnessed in there was one of the scariest, most startling things I have ever seen and you expect me not to scold you? What the fuck is going on?”
Her voice cracked during the last sentence and your heart tugged at the sound. You’d heard it before as she sunk to the floor years ago when Lincon had perished, and when she’d succumbed to the fear of her own powers growing out of control.
The part of you that was still you didn’t want to cause that pain, and most certainly didn’t want the fear to take over. You stood, approaching the barrier. It was the only thing between you both, and it was highly charged.
You’d been tempted to touch it, to place your hand against the electricity save for the pain. Instead, you started pacing back and forth, the length of your makeshift cell. “This is where we held Agent Ward, isn’t it?”
She didn’t’ answer, instead, she swallowed the lump in her throat as you examined the metal frame bed and the cameras that were situated around each corner of the cell. Part of you swelled with pride, being confined in the same spot the biggest threat to the team had been in. You quickly drowned the thought, shaking your head.
 “Does it bother you? Watching two people you love fall down the same path?” The words had slipped past your lips before you could quell them. Instead, you tutted “You’re well on your way to a pattern, young lady. One more good-looking sociopath and you’ll collect all three.”
“Don’t,” Daisy snarled “You need to tell me what’s wrong. This isn’t you.”
You stopped pacing, lilting your head to the side as you stared at her. She was itching to leave, and you wanted her to. It would make all of this easier. Your entire body itched too, wanted to give in to the full control. It wasn’t something you were willing to do in front of Daisy.
“Do you know how much control I have to practice on a daily basis, Zee? Just a little more strength than usual and I rip a cabinet door off. I shatter a mug. I punch a co-worker in the face. It’s a constant push between what’s right to do and what I was designed to do.”
“So what? You decided you’re done watching your strength? That doesn’t warrant an attempt at massacre.”
“You don’t get it!” You punched the barrier, reveling in the feel of electricity that moved through your fingertips, your arm and elbow until it dissipated altogether. She flinched but didn’t step back. “When Hydra… why Hydra trained me it was all I knew. I would wake up, follow orders, and be put back to sleep before I could even register what I had done. Who I had killed, what I destroyed.”
This was something you had refused to talk about. Coulson knew the gist of your containment, of your de-programming because that was all listed in your SHIELD file. But the true horrors of your ordeal were a mystery to the entire team. It was behind you. He was behind you.
“A SHEILD team raided one of Hydras bases and I was there. I was willing to go without a fight and Hydra was willing to leave me there to absolve for their sins.” You chuckled at that, shaking your head “There was months of imprisonment, of interrogation and then deprogramming. And finally, finally after years of trying to prove myself to Director Fury, and Agent Hill, they cleared me for duty. Cleared me to join Coulson’s team.”
You let yourself plop down onto the metal chair, suddenly too exhausted to remember why you were fighting so hard in the first place. Daisy clenched and unclenched her jaw. “Why are you telling me this?”
“Two years of deprogramming doesn’t make up for a lifetime of torture, of molding me into the perfect killing machine.” You swallowed hard “I played my part, I ignored the feeling of being watched, the dark thoughts that tried to break through into my new, good, life. I fought every single day to make sure all of you were safe and unharmed and… suddenly, suddenly the people who were controlling me got stronger.”
Daisy shifted, uncrossing her arms “You’re saying you’re still under Hydra’s control?”
“I’m saying I wasn’t strong enough to fight off their hold on me. A few months ago I started blacking out and the nightmares, they got worse. But everyone was finally settled, finally happy. We were happy”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Daisy’s voice waivered “Y/n, one of the perks of having a girlfriend is being able to talk to them, to tell them things. You should have come to me.”
“I didn’t want to hurt anyone. I thought I could handle it. I thought I could keep things under control.”
Daisy let out a long sigh and lowered herself back into her own chair. Her elbows resting on her knees. She bounced her leg, staring at you with those deep brown eyes that you could drown in. Somehow, her being there, was enough if only for a moment.
“I have to tell Coulson.”
“I know,” you said.
“He’ll know what to do. We’ll get through this, y/n.” Her words were whispered, eyes glassy with emotion. “I love you. We all do. This is just another challenge, okay? We’re here to help.”
“I admire your perseverance, Daisy, but the hold hydra has on me. It’s bigger than me, it’s bigger than us.”
She swallowed thickly “You don’t mean that.”
But you did, didn’t you? Your skin felt like it was on fire and you wanted nothing more than to peel it off strip by strip until there was a new layer glinting under the industrial lights. Anything to stop the uncomfortable feeling of not being in your own body. You’d gotten to complicit under the watchful eye of SHIELD. Hydra didn’t like that, and at this point, neither did you.
It had been so easy, so simple to rip through those agents as they aimed red dots at your center. You didn’t care if they fired their weapons, you hadn’t a care in the world and it was freeing.
It was hard to wager that with the sad look your girlfriend was giving you now. Her fingers were tapping against her knees, hardly a perfect interrogation technique. It was hard not to crave her touch, her mouth hot on yours. Even if you did give yourself up to Hydra entirely, there would always be Daisy.
You lilted your head, narrowing your eyes at her. She’d be just as easy to break; just a little bit of homegrown brainwashing and she’d be by your side again. Both of you dripping in blood. A power like hers, resting under her fingertips, would be invaluable.
Standing, you gently touched the barrier separating you both. There was a subtle electronic buzz that moved through your fingertips and up to your elbow. It was warming, a constant comfort, almost. “Darling, we could make all of this go away. Just the two of us.”
She lifted her hazel stare from the tablet in front of her, reading your vitals like an open book. They were steady, you were sure of it. There was curiosity in her stare.
“Do you remember the house in Vermont we talked about?” You dragged your fingers against the barrier, a blue trail following fast. “The two of us can forget all of this, forget SHIELD and Hydra. We can go there, start a family. Isn’t that what you want?”
You could read it in her expression, it was exactly what she wanted. But Daisy Johnson was no fool. Despite your terse begging and manipulative tactics, she remained calm. One knee was balanced on the edge of the chair, the other foot planted firmly on the floor.
“Rae’s Restaurant… the floorplan that we drew out on the back of a placemat. Two stories, a nursery, and office. A massive backyard. I remember it well.” Daisy stood again, facing off against you with nothing but an electrical panel holding you back. “This isn’t the you I imagined it with. Where is the kindness? The selfless woman that I fell in love with?”
You gritted your teeth. “Gone. Nothing but a fabrication, baby. I’m just offering you one last chance to join me. I have no reservations about destroying you right along with this entire organization.”
Daisy swallowed hard, trying to quell the lump in her throat. She refused to let herself cry. “I’d like to see you try.”
“I do love a challenge.”

Notes: Listen, I have it bad for Gabriel Luna. Bad. As in no coming back. And I saw some gifs of him as Robbie (the first role I saw him in), I've been rewatching his episodes of Agents of Shield, and I had to write something. Thanks to @mermaidxatxheart for giving me an idea that, in typical me fashion, went completely off the rail and became an actual story and not just smut.

Bold Italics are the Rider internally speaking to Robbie
Robbie never thought he’d be here, a driver to some rich guy’s daughter. He could feel the Rider, how beneath him the Rider felt that playing chauffeur was. But it was because of the Rider that Robbie was here, trying to get solid information on her dad, to prove he was the secret bad guy…and to bring vengeance.
When he agreed to be a driver for the family, he thought he’d be driving around the man himself, but when his daughter stepped out of the house, Robbie’s eyes went wide and he was momentarily speechless. He hadn’t seen anyone this gorgeous in…well, ever. She walked with confidence to the car and when he tried to open the door for her, she gave him a small smile and stepped around him, eyes roaming over the car.
“1969 Dodge Charger…you’ve made some modifications?”
She knows about cars?
When he doesn’t answer right away, she stops, hand hovering over the hood and looks up at him, her eyebrows raised as she waits for an answer.
“Yeah, uh..yes.”
She nods, glancing back down at the flawless finish. “May I?”
Robbie never lets anyone touch his car. No one.
“Don’t scratch her.”
“I wouldn’t dare.”
Her fingers lightly brush against the black paint, the car seemingly humming under her touch. Robbie shifts where he stands, like he can almost feel her fingers brush against his own skin.
“She’s remarkable. And you’re sure you’re fine with driving me around in her?” Her eyes meet his again and he swallows hard. He'd thought the request to be driven in a car like his was odd, but he assumed Mr. Rich Asshole was a car guy. He never anticipated that it was his daughter.
“Yes, ma’am.”
She shifts a little, smiling as she glances back down at the car before moving around it to get inside the door Robbie had opened. She pauses before sitting and looks at him, so close he swears he can feel her breath on his face.
“If you change your mind, let me know. I’d hate to put this car in any danger.”
Robbie chuckles to himself as he closes the door behind her. If only she knew how much danger his car got into on a weekly basis.
Over the next few weeks, he takes her various places on a pretty consistent schedule, mostly shopping, occasionally meeting up with some friends, a random night club or two. Robbie finds her fascinating. He assumed that she would be pompous, like most rich people, that she would look down on others and treat them like shit. But she doesn’t. And the more he watches her, the more he sees how her smiles to her friends don’t reach her eyes, how she never wears the clothes she buys, the little sigh that escapes her lips before she steps out and into the club, her dress just barely covering her.
One day, Robbie was elbow deep in a broken engine when his phone rang, the one that he used only for his chauffeur job. He wipes his hands on his coveralls and pulls the phone out, surprised to see her name lighting up the screen. She never needs him on Mondays.
“This is Robbie.”
“Hi, Mr. Reyes. I’m sorry to call you on your day off, but..would you be willing to take me into town?”
He looks back at the engine, disassembled, pieces scattered all around, and she takes his hesitance as a no.
“You know what? I’m sorry, Mr. Reyes. I shouldn’t ask you on your day off. I..I’ll just-”
“No, no. It’s ok. I can come get you. Are you at home?”
“Yeah. When can you get here?”
Robbie glances up at the clock on the wall. “45 minutes?”
She’s quiet for a moment. “Ok. I’ll see you then.”
Robbie stares at the phone for a moment before cleaning up and changing, wiping the grease from his face and hands. Why had she called? She seemed a little off.
He got there in 20 minutes with a little help from the Rider.
When he pulls up, she’s there, walking quickly to his car. Robbie jumps out and starts to walk around to get her door but she waves him off. “It’s ok. I got it.” He nods, watching her walk to the car, hunched in on herself, arms crossed and hiding behind sunglasses. She gets in and closes the door, buckling her seat belt.
“Where to?”
“I don’t care, just drive.”
Robbie starts up the car, revving the engine a little because he knew she liked that. The corner of her mouth ticks up slightly into the beginning of a smile and he relaxes slightly, still worried about her.
“My dad hates that sound.”
It’s the first time she’s mentioned her dad, has said anything to him outside of polite conversation and chats about the car.
“I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”
She reaches out and touches his arm, lightly squeezing him. “No, please don’t stop.” Robbie stops the car as the gates open slowly and he turns to look at her, trying to see through her sunglasses.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Neva.”
Robbie’s eyebrows pinch together. “Neva?”
She nods, taking a breath. “It’s what my nanny called me. She was Russian. She said it meant snowy, or something like that. I was born during a bad snowstorm,” She clarifies and Robbie nods. Neva removes her hand from his arm and starts to pick at her nails, placing them in her lap. “She was the only one who really cared for me. No one else calls me that name. Probably because nobody cares.”
Robbie is speechless. He has no idea what to say, but he wants her to know that she can open up to him. Maybe she’ll tell him more about her dad, but it’s more than that now. It’s…wait, does he care about her?
“I’m sorry you have shitty parents.”
She laughs then, her head tilting back with the force of it, and Robbie vows to make her laugh as often as he can. As her laughter fades, she takes off her glasses and wipes at her eyes with the back of her hand.
“You’re a riot, Mr. Reyes. Thanks for making me laugh.”
He smiles at her. “Is…is there anything I can do for you?”
She stares at him a long time and he hopes she can’t see the warmth in his cheeks that was definitely not from the Rider.
“I doubt you can help, but thank you.”
“Are you sure? I’m pretty resourceful.”
She smiles sadly. “I doubt any of your resources could change who my father is.” Robbie opens his mouth to respond when she shakes her head. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything. You don’t want to hear about my problems… so, do you have a sister or brother or girlfriend or…or someone?”
He studies her for a moment, amazed at how she instantly schooled her demeanor into a completely different emotion, as if whatever the shit was with her dad never happened.
“I have a brother.”
“Just a brother? No girlfriend? Sister! I meant sister.”
He glances away from her, hiding his smirk at her slip up by pretending to look out the window before he turns. “Nah, just Gabe.”
“Gabe. How old is he?”
“High school.”
“Ah. The fun years, or whatever everyone says.”
“What, you didn’t like high school?”
She shakes her head. “Hated it. Everyone was so fake and I just didn’t fit in. Ok, well I mean I made friends but not anyone I’d actually consider a real friend. Just kids of people my dad has connections with or wants connections with.”
“Your dad would use you for that?”
She grows quiet, staring out of the window. “He does.”
Robbie stops at the red light and angles his body towards her. “Hey, you sure you’re ok-”
“Does Gabe need anything for school?”
Robbie stares at her, her eyes pleading for him to take the change of subject. He’d follow her lead this time, but he tucks that information about her dad in the back of his mind. Something wasn’t sitting right with him about it.
“Don’t worry about it. We’re good.”
“That’s not what I asked. Is there something he’s into?”
“He used to be really into soccer before…”
“Before?”
Robbie took a deep breath. “Before the accident…Now he’s in a wheelchair.”
She squeezes his arm again and it makes his whole body feel like a livewire. “I’m so sorry to hear that, Mr. Reyes. Do you guys need anything? What about any medical bills?”
“We’re fine, thanks.”
She takes her hand away like he had slapped her. “I’m just trying to help.”
He stops at another red light, putting on his turn signal. “No, I didn’t mean it like that. I just…everyone always wants to pity us. But we’re doing fine.”
“I never said you weren’t. I just..have the means to help. If you’ll let me?”
“I couldn’t ask you to do that.”
“Good thing you didn’t then. Now, what sorts of clothes does he like?”
Robbie could tell she was being genuine, not like most people with money who fake it just to use it as a tax write off or a photo op. So they spend the next several minutes talking about Gabe, Robbie telling her some fun stories from their youth as she directs him to a shopping district. He pulls up to an empty spot and parks, getting out of the car and opening Neva’s door. She gets out and smoothes down her pants as Robbie starts to head back to the driver’s seat.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to wait for you like I always do.”
“Oh no. You’re coming with me.” She links her arm through his and Robbie tries to slow down his beating heart, certain that she can hear it through his chest. “I need you, Mr. Reyes.”
“Yeah?” Shit, he shouldn’t have let that slip out. She didn’t mean she needed him, but she needed his opinion.
She squeezes his arm with hers in response, turning her head to look at him, her face inches from his. He swallows hard as his eyes switch between hers, his heartbeat pounding loudly in his ears. Her eyes flick down to his lips, his breath catching in his throat as she leans towards him ever so slightly.
“Ah, mademoiselle!” The store owner had come outside, no doubt spotting Neva, who frequents his shop. Robbie’s blood boils at the interruption but perhaps it was for the best. He’d almost forgotten that the reason he’s even driving her around is to get more information on her dad.
“Alexandre. How nice to see you.”
Alexandre leans in to kiss her cheek and Robbie feels her grip on his arm tighten slightly.
“What brings you in today?”
“I need some gifts for a friend of mine.” Neva launches into a description of Gabe that is so spot on for not ever meeting him or seeing a picture of him that Robbie is taken aback. Once inside, Robbie tries to extricate himself from her but she holds on tight, pulling him to some racks of clothes that Alexandre was pointing out, pulling things from the racks and tossing them at another clerk, who was frantically trying to hold everything. Once they had it all laid out, Neva turns to Robbie, gesturing at the clothes all nicely folded.
“How’s this? Is there anything he wouldn’t like?”
He can feel Alexandre’s eyes on him, like he knows he doesn’t belong in her world, like Robbie doesn’t already know that. He shakes his head. “I can’t take this.”
“Oh. Is it the wrong size? Or color?”
“No, it’s just…it’s too much.”
“Oh. Does he need another dresser?”
“No that’s not-”
“Mr. Reyes, you told me it was his birthday and I’m insisting on buying him some things. He’s been working hard in school and deserves a reward for all of his hard work. Now, is there anything else he needs?”
Her eyebrows are raised in question: why did she say it was Gabe's birthday? He doesn’t have time to think about that and he knows she won’t accept him declining her offer. “No. No this is more than enough.”
She smiles at him, one that reaches her eyes. “Good. Alexandre?” He’s there in an instant. “Ring me up. Charge my father’s card.”
“Oui, mademoiselle.”
She takes him to lunch next, insisting that she pays as this was supposed to be his day off. They go to some fancy restaurant with food that Robbie can’t pronounce, with portions that are way too small for the price, but they tasted great. Not homemade meals from his abuela great, but not bad.
He pulls up to the front of the house, putting the car in park before grabbing the handle, when Neva touches his arm again.
“Thank you for today, Mr. Reyes.”
He hesitates a moment before placing his gloved hand over hers, meeting her gaze. “You can call me anytime, Neva.” She smiles at him, squeezing his arm before turning, allowing Robbie time to open her door just in case her dad was watching. He can still feel her hand on his arm, how it felt to link her arm in his, how her laugh sounded, the way he made her smile, like it was only for him.
Damn, Robbie. You got it bad.
—----
“How did you find this?” Robbie stares at the car part in the box he’s holding in disbelief. “I’ve been looking for this for years!”
Neva smiles and waves her hand nonchalantly. “I know a guy.”
“No, you don’t understand. This is impossible to find.”
“Obvioulsy not as you’re holding it.”
Robbie looks up at her, a smile sliding into place. “I don’t..this is too much, I..”
Neva pretends to gasp, placing her hand on her chest. “Was I just graced a smile from Mr. Reyes?” Robbie can almost feel his ears turning pink, a little extra heat in his cheeks and looks back down into the box. Neva leans in a little closer to him. “I’ll have to do this more often if it means I get to see that smile.”
Robbie looks up, his eyes meeting hers. She’s close to him now. If he just leaned in a little further, he could press his lips to hers, feel how soft they -
“Do you want to put it in now?” Her eyebrows raise, but not before she glances down at his lips again.
“What?”
Neva nods her head towards the box. “The part.”
Robbie shakes his head, pushing aside the images of pressing her against the side of the car, her leg wrapping around him as they embrace. “Uh…yeah. But after work-”
“I have nothing to do today. Can we go now? I’d love to watch you install it. If that’s ok with you?”
I’d let you do whatever you want.
Robbie tries to hold back the smile he feels coming on, but he can’t. “Hell yeah. Oh, I mean-”
Neva waves her hand. “I don’t give a fuck about bad language. Also, that’s two smiles I got from you. I’m definitely spoiling you more often.”
Robbie pulls into Canelo’s Auto and Body, driving up to one of the empty bays. He hops out and starts looking for tools, gathering what he needs.
“Are you allowed to do that?”
Robbie turns to see Neva standing outside of the car, watching him open and close toolboxes. He realizes then that he’s never mentioned also being a mechanic.
“Yeah. I work here too.”
Her eyes go wide and she nods. “That actually makes so much sense now!”
“What does?”
She gestures around. “The cars. How you’re able to keep her-” she points to the Charger “-so pristine.”
“Yeah. It’s a good place. Owned by good people. I don’t know where we’d be without them,” Robbie returns to the drawers, finding the last tool he needed and closes the drawer. When he turns back around, he freezes, watching Neva remove her outershirt, standing there in a skin tight camisole that hugs her in all the right ways, framing her chest perfectly as she pulls her hair back off of her face. Once her hair is secured, she pats her head a little, making sure she didn’t forget any loose strands. She jumps a little when she sees Robbie staring.
“Sorry! It’s just hot out and-am I making you uncomfortable?”
“What? Uh no. No, you’re, uh..fine.”
Her smile makes his body tingle and he has a short, internal conversation with the Rider, telling him to calm his shit. Robbie sets up his tools, putting the car up on jacks. When he finally lifts the hood, he hears a soft moan from Neva as she steps around, her eyes fixed on the engine.
“Did you do all this work yourself?” She asks, standing so close to him that their arms lightly brush against each other and Robbie desperately wishes he wasn’t wearing sleeves.
“Y-yeah. I had to rebuild her, basically. The car was my uncle’s but he doesn’t need it now.”
She glances up at him. "I'm sorry for your loss."
Robbie chuckles. "Don't be. He's in prison."
"Oh,” She looks down, nervous, at a loss for words. “…well I'm not sure how to respond to that. I'm sorry?" She lifts her head and he can feel her eyes on him.
Robbie turns his head slightly to look at her. "It is what it is." He wasn't about to go into his personal business with her. Not when she's standing so close, smelling like her shampoo of strawberries and coconut. He can’t help it, his eyes flicking down to her soft lips, dragging back up her face to see hers tracing a similar path on his own. He brings a hand to her face, gently cradling her cheek as he slowly leans towards her, feeling her fingers lightly tug at his shirt to pull him closer. Her eyes close-
“Robbie! I didn’t expect to see yo- oh.”
Robbie and Neva spring apart as a man in coveralls walks in, rubbing a dirty oil rag across his matching hands.
“Hey Canelo. I just came in to install this piece.” Robbie gestures towards the box and Canelo glances inside, whistling in awe.
“Holy shit. Where did you find it?”
“I didn’t. She did.” Robbie nods his head towards Neva, who shrugs.
Canelo looks between them both, a smile tugging at his lips. “Robbie, do you really think your date wants to see you work on a car?”
“Oh we’re not-”
“We aren’t-”, they both speak at the same time and Canelo chuckles.
“Actually, I asked him to bring me. I love this car.” Canelo looks at Neva in surprise.
“Oh yeah?” He proceeds to give her a mini quiz, which she aces.
“Robbie, don’t let this one go. She’s a keeper.”
“No, we’re not-”
Canelo waves his hand. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say.” He leaves, tossing you a wink before heading back into the office. Neva steps back from the car, giving Robbie space to work. He sighs, internally cursing his boss for interrupting that kiss. It would’ve been a kiss, right?
When he drops her off later, after taking the car for a much enjoyed ride, she touches his arm to stop him from getting out and opening her door.
“I think we should talk about what happened. Or, almost happened.”
She regrets the kiss doesn’t she? Almost kiss? We are from different worlds.
Robbie waves his hand, determined to get in front of this so he doesn’t show how her letting him down hurts. “It’s ok. Nothing happened so…”
Her face changes, a flash of disappointment before she expertly schools it. “Very well then. If that’s what you want. I’ll see you tomorrow, Mr. Reyes.” And she opens the door, closing it a little harder than normal behind her. Robbie watches her walk away, feeling like he fucked up big time.
That’s because you did fuck up.
—----
For the next few weeks, Neva is polite, a coolness settling over their interactions after his rejection. He didn’t want to reject her, he wanted to kiss her until she couldn’t breathe, begging him for more. But she was the one who was going to stop things so why should he feel guilty?
She didn’t tell you that, you idiot. You made it up.
She asks him to drive her to a party one night, offering to pay him extra since it was after his regular hours. He agreed, of course he agreed. He felt guilty and kept trying to talk to her, but couldn’t find the words.
Don’t forget why you’re really here.
When he pulls up she’s walking out of the house, a snug, black dress that rouches on the sides, a slit going up nearly to her hip, and a neckline that plunges, perfectly framing her chest. She has on black heels and clutches a small black purse that is more for looks than practicality. Suddenly, Robbie couldn’t breathe, watching her walk towards the car, the dress sliding across her skin but never revealing more than it should. She makes it halfway before the Rider snaps him out of it and he jumps out, walking quickly to the other side to open the door. She gets in the car without really looking at him, smoothing down her hair as he closes the door. When they start to drive off, she sighs, setting the small clutch in her lap and leaning her face against her fist as her elbow rests on the door. When the gate is opening, Robbie chances a look at her. She looks phenomenal, but her expression doesn’t match. Her color is a little off, the sparkle in her eyes not really there.
“Are you ok?”
“Mmm?” Neva turns her head to look at him.
“You don’t look good. I mean, y-you-you look..just…but I mean, your face doesn’t…” What the fuck dude?
Luckily for him, she smiles slightly, a small chuckle escaping her. “You’re cute when you’re flustered.”
His cheeks warm, his ears tinging a slight shade of pink as he stammers on. “I just… I meant that you don’t look into this.”
“This?”
“The party.”
She leans back on her fist. “Oh. Yeah. I’m not really.”
“Then why go?”
She sighs. “Because my dad commands I make an appearance.”
“You don’t have to go, you know.”
She doesn’t look at him, her eyes gazing off at a point in the distance. “I’ve been through worse. I can survive a party.”
He’s quiet for a moment. What did she mean she’s been through worse? “Well if you change your mind, you know how to find me.”
He drops her off, watching her walk into the building that’s crammed with people, loud music blaring and lights flashing everywhere. He drives around the corner, parking just off property so as not to interfere with the valet and waits. He had a feeling. And sure enough, about an hour later she texts him to come get her. They pull out of the drive up and he puts on his blinker at the next light.
“How was the party?”
“Ugh. I couldn’t take it anymore. Everyone in this world is so damn fake. And they all seem to want my attention,” she huffs.
“Home then?”
“No way. Are you hungry, Mr. Reyes?”
“I could eat.”
She perks up, sitting a little straighter in her seat. “Great! Take me to your favorite place.”
Robbie chuckles. “I don’t think you’ll like it.”
“Well I like you so I’m sure I will.”
His stomach leaps into his throat. So he didn’t fuck everything up then. “It’s…not your type of place.”
She turns her head, her eyes studying him as he keeps his on the road. “Have you learned nothing about me, Mr. Reyes? Now drive.”
He smirks. “Yes, ma’am.”
He drives across town to his neighborhood, pulling up to park in front of a diner. Neva looks around. “This is it?”
“Told you you wouldn’t like it.”
“I didn’t say that. I’m just surprised your favorite is diner food.”
“And what would you know about diner food?”
“Oh ha-ha. I have eaten at a diner before.”
“Uh huh. How much did a burger cost?”
She punches his arm, fighting the smile that wants to come out. “Shut up.”
He opens the door for her, offering his arm when she goes to get out and she takes it, linking them together.
“Ok so, this isn’t my favorite place. But that one is closed and this is my number 2.”
“You know how to make a girl feel special.”
“Hey, I don’t take just anyone to Bertha’s. They have the best burger in town.” He feels her hold him closer and at first he thinks it’s for the neighborhood, but one mental smack from the Rider and he sees that she’s cold. Taking off his formal jacket, he settles it across her shoulders and she cuddles into it. Robbie swears he sees her smelling it out of the corner of his eye, but he doesn’t say anything.
As they eat, she opens up more, their flow settling back into how things were. Little flirtations, her hand brushing his, her foot accidentally bumping into his leg over and over, her moaning when she tries the burger. Ok, that last one was just the way Robbie heard it but it counted. In his head, anyway. On their way out, she notices the graffiti on the side of the building next door. She stops, pulling him back by their linked arms to look at it.
“That’s the Ghost Rider,” Robbie explains.
“Who?”
He launches into a generic explanation about the local legend of The Ghost Rider, how he has a flaming skull for a head and seeks vengeance on those who have done wrong.
“And by vengeance you mean he kills them?”
He stiffens slightly. “Yeah.”
“Hhmm…”
“Most people think he’s a murderer.”
“No. I like him. We need justice where there is none.”
Robbie is speechless. No one has ever looked at the Rider like that, at him like that. And she doesn’t even know they’re connected.
I like her, Robbie. Hold onto this one.
You just like her because she said she liked you.
They finish making their way around the back of the diner to the car, and Robbie leans over to open the door for Neva when she pulls him, facing her back to the car.
“Thank you so much for tonight. This is the most fun I’ve had since…well, probably ever.”
“Nah, it was my pleasure.”
She smiles at him, her eyes bright and inviting, making his skin prickle like a live wire. His body is growing warmer, and not from the Rider. She’s so close, her scent of strawberries and coconut filling his nose as she leans closer, her eyes darting down to his lips. He leans too and their foreheads meet, both of them breathing heavily as they stand there, the air around them crackling with tension.
“Robbie,” she says it quietly, but it’s all he needs.
Robbie’s hands come up to cup her cheeks, turning her head up to him as he presses his lips to hers, feeling her sigh, her body relaxing into him. He glides his tongue across her lips and she parts them instantly, silently begging him for more. His lips never leave hers as he puts a hand out, walking her backwards into the side of the car. Her fingers twist in his shirt, pulling him closer before she slides them around his broad back, trying to grip him anywhere she can. He drops his hand to the back of her knee and lifts it on his hip, her gasp breaking their kiss. He takes advantage of this, turning her head to the side and kissing the side of her neck, sucking on a spot just below her ear. She moans and Robbie gasps against her neck, feeling her skin pimple under his lips.
But then she’s pushing him back and Robbie stumbles, his eyebrows furrowing together. Did he misread the situation? No, she wanted this as much as him… His brain goes fuzzy as he watches her walk around the car, gently setting her ass against the hood as she looks at him, her eyes wide and dark with want, her eyebrow arched, begging him to come closer.
He’s there in less than 2 steps, hands cupping her face again as he brings his lips to hers, feeling warmth fan out from where they touch. His hands slide down her, taking in every curve of her body before he grips her ass, moaning slightly into her mouth before lifting her to set her on the hood of the car, her legs automatically opening and wrapping around him, trying to bring him closer. He leans her down, her back against the hood of the car as he continues to kiss her, lips soft and needy. Her fingers fumble at his belt line and he finally snaps out of it. Robbie pulls back and grips her wrist, looking down at her.
“I…this is not…I don’t want our first time to be like this.”
A smile crinkles up her eyes and Robbie feels it in his bones. “You’ve thought about us before? Our first time?”
“Oh, I think about you all the time, chica. I want the space and time to take you apart.”
She whimpers, his pants feeling a little tighter at the sound. “Fuck, Robbie. I want that too but right now, I don’t care about where we are. I want you. I need you.” Her eyebrows pinch up in question, fully leaving it up to him.
He smiles. “I can’t say no to you.”
He lays his body against hers, sliding his hand up her bare thigh while propping himself up with the other, his elbow leaning against the hood. He doesn’t kiss her, choosing to watch her expressions as his hand ghosts across her cool skin, disappearing under her mini dress. He ghosts his fingers across her underwear, chuckling when she jolts at his touch. Her fingers grip his forearms, nails trying to dig through the sleeve of his shirt as he draws light circles over her clothed cunt, her breathing coming out in ragged gasps.
“Please,” she begs, voice barely above a whisper. Gently, he dips his finger under her pantyline, sliding it down her wet pussy, tracing light circles at her clit. “Oh!” She gasps, trying to hold back her sounds because they are in a parking lot. Robbie had completely forgotten their pretty public display. His hand stills and she huffs, her lip coming out in a pout.
“Are you sure, chica? We’re pretty out here.”
“I don’t give a fuck. I need to feel you inside me, Robbbie,” She blinks up at him with a fire, not too different from the one he feels blazing behind his own gaze. “I won’t break.”
“Fuck, you’re gonna kill me, Neva.”
Robbie sits back, fingers deftly opening his belt and pants just enough to pull himself out, groaning as his hard cock springs free. His skin is warm and he swallows hard, trying to get himself to cool down a bit. But then he sees her, moving her panties aside for him and, while he can’t see too clearly due to the lack of proper light, he can see that she’s fucking gorgeous, somewhere he will have to explore when he has the space to. Lining himself up, he looks down at her and pushes in, clamping a hand over her mouth when she lets out a high pitched, loud, moan, and it’s all he can do to not join her as she envelopes him, her heat wrapping around him perfectly, like she had been waiting just for him. When he bottoms out he waits, hips joined close together as she catches her breath. She looks up at him, pleasure radiating out from just her gaze alone, a gives him a nod. He pulls his hips back and slowly slides in again, groaning at the feel of her as he slots his hips against hers. He adds in an extra deep thrust and she cries out, trying to swallow her own moans as Robbie hones in on that spot, thrusting deep and hard against her. Neva starts to slide up the hood of the car, her dress doing nothing to hold her in place. Her fingers grip his sleeves, trying desperately to find something to hold her in place as Robbie continues to thrust into her.
He’s about to stop, give her a moment to grab something when her hand shoots out, gripping the raised engine of his Charger. Instantly his skin heats, feeling like he’s about to catch fire at the sight of her digging her fingers into the metal, her other hand gripping his as he pushes it to the side of her head, knuckles clanking against the dark metal. His body is tingling and he shakes his head to clear it when he feels her raise her legs higher, digging her heels into his ass and lower back, trying to get him deeper.
He growls, pressing a hard kiss to her lips before pulling out, grabbing her ankles and sliding her down the hood, her gasp turning to whimpers as he grabs her hips and flips her, pushing her chest down against the cool metal of the Charger. He pushes into her quickly, feeling himself warm instantly as he speeds his hips up, thrusting extra hard when he’s fully inside of her. Neva’s hands scramble across the car, looking for something to hold onto and she finds the engine again, using it to help her push back against him, bringing him slightly deeper than before. His skin is ablaze, his thoughts racing, mixing with the Riders as he fucks her, warning him mentally to back off, unsure how long he’d be able to keep him at bay when he’s worked up like this.
Then she pulses around him, his name tumbling from her lips over and over as she cums, squeezing him tightly, trying to keep him inside of her. He feels his balls tighten, his skin starting to lightly glow and he grunts, cumming hard as his hips jut into her soft ass, his hands squeezing her hips to keep her in place. He keeps his eyes closed, feeling his release wash over him as he simultaneously tries to fight back the Rider, who does eventually back down. Robbie looks down at Neva, her back heaving as she tries to catch her breath. Still seated snuggly inside, he leans over and pushes the hair from her cheek, moving in to kiss her there. Instead, she turns her head more, finding his lips with her own, as if she were trying to keep him there a little longer. The kiss breaks and Robbie pulls out with a grunt, tucking himself back into his pants.
“I don’t know if I have anything to clean you up-”
She chuckles, cutting off his sentence. Sitting up, she sways and Robbie catches her, pulling her close.
“Don’t worry. I don’t mind feeling you between my thighs.”
His ears are hot, silently begging the Rider to stay put. “I plan on spending a lot of time between your thighs.”
“Ugh how are you so fucking hot?” She pulls him down to her, her nails scraping against the back of his head, his arms wrapping around her.
“You’re so warm,” she sighs, cuddling into him.
“I run hot.”
“Yeah you do.”
Robbie drives her back home, but not before she tells him to pull over, hopping into his lap and riding him until they’re both screaming the others name.
—----
The next few weeks are spent tucking themselves away from prying eyes, Robbie practically living between her legs, pulling every sound he can from her. It becomes a little easier to keep the Rider at bay while he’s buried inside of her, but he’s not sure if he can always hold him back, which terrifies him. Neva doesn’t know about the Rider, about his secret. Would she even accept him?
It’s his night off, Neva having some sort of engagement to go to, a car sent to pick her up. Robbie slides a bowl of mac and cheese across the table to Gabe, who picks at it with his fork.
“What?” Robbie asks, a mouthful of mac and cheese.
“It’s nothing.”
“You too good for mac and cheese now?” He smirks, but drops it once he sees Gabe not smiling.
“Gabe?”
“It’s just…you always put hot dogs in it before.”
Robbie smiles softly, schooling his face as he stands up, grabbing his brother’s bowl. “Alright, your majesty. Would you like them cut in cubes or circles?”
Gabe punches him in the arm. “You’re an ass.”
—-
Robbie jolts awake, his phone ringing loudly as is vibrates on his nightstand. Rubbing his eyes, he quickly glances at the time - 1am. No good calls come this late. He feels the color drain from his face when he realizes it’s his work phone, the one that Neva calls. He picks up, hoping that it was just her letting him know she made it home ok. She had promised to do that.
“Hey, chica.”
She takes a moment to answer and Robbie straightens up, sensing something is wrong.
“Nev-”
“Please come get me,” her voice is barely above a whisper, harsh and rough, not sounding at all like the whispers she presses into his ear when he’s buried inside of her. His phone pings but he ignores it.
“Where are-”
The phone clicks off, but not before he heard a yell from her, a terrified yell, a pleading yell. He glances down at the phone and sees she had dropped her location, a red dot pulsing up at him from the map. He grabs his jacket, jumping into the Charger, feeling the fire blaze in him.
If anything has happened to her, we will get justice.
“You got that right,” His eyebrows furrow together in anger, his foot pressing into the gas as he makes his way across town in record time. He pulls up to the gate of a large estate, the guard taking his time coming over to him. Robbie tells him he’s here for Neva and the guard lets him in, the gate sliding shut behind him. He pulls right up to the front door, his car angled for a quick getaway if needed. His skin is on fire as he opens the door, striding over to the front door, raising his fist to knock when he hears her scream, pleading with someone to stop. Without thinking he kicks open the door, taking several large steps inside towards her voice and the sound of something hard making contact with her skin, a scream coming out every time it slaps against her. When he enters the room he sees her on the floor, blood smeared across her as her body curls in on itself, shielding her face with one hand, the other outstretched towards the man towering above her, riding crop raised above him, begging him to stop. Robbie’s skin lights up, eyes turning to fire as his skin melts away, the Rider pushing his way out.

Neva, Earlier That Night:
“You will attend the gala with Mr. Fortier and attend his party after.”
I nod, familiar with this game having been forced to play it my entire life. My dad says me attending these things with these men, powerful men as he says, helps his business endeavors, which in turn helps the family. That I need to do what I have to for the good of the family.
Of course, he’s not the one to have to endure them.
Showing up, being glorified arm candy clutching to the sleeve of some powerful man or his son, having to discreetly slap away their unwanted touches without upsetting them, having people ogle you like you were just another pretty face, like you were just a piece of furniture, really wears on you. But what else can I do?
I never liked going to these events, showing up with these people, but especially now that I have Robbie, albeit secretly because there’s no way my father would approve of me being with “the help”. I despise them. I begged my father not to go but he wouldn’t hear of it, slapping me across the face when I initially said no. I dabbed on a little extra concealer to hide the redness from his palm and painted on a smile for Mr. Fortier.
The evening progressed as they usually do. A gala meant a beautiful gown, one that was worth more than most people make in a year, hand holding onto the arm of the man of the evening, Mr. Fortier, as he smirks, loving the attention he gets showing up with me on his arm. His hand rests on my thigh under the table at dinner and it turns my stomach. He starts to squeeze, his nails digging into my skin slightly, so I discreetly place my hand over his, squeezing it back like I wanted to hold hands, choking back the bile that threatens to spew from my mouth as he gives me a smile.
We dance, his hand sliding a little too low for my comfort so I ask him to spin me, just to get away from his touch for a moment. The money for whatever charity this gala was sponsoring was made, everyone cheering like they made their donations to actually help the charity and not just for the tax write-off. I scan the room, seeing many faces that I know my father has done business with behind closed doors, illegal things that I’m not supposed to know about but I’m too smart to not realize that my dad is not a good man.
Mr. Fortier asks me into his house after the gala for drinks and I initially decline, wanting to get home and scrub this night from my body, but when he persists, I remember my father telling me I will attend his after party. So I accept, a fake smile on my lips as he takes my hand, leading me inside. Once he has me in the living room I sit at his request, watching him walk to to his drink cart, offering to make me a drink. I decline the offer, saying I had too much already and he shrugs, raising the glass to his lips. It’s when he’s drinking that it starts to sink in - the silence of the house, the lack of movement even from staff, nothing to indicate an after party. I don’t even remember him telling other people there’s one at his house.
I feel the color start to drain from my face as I realize what might happen next. It’s happened before, my father delighted with the extra money he earned from me. I didn’t realize it at the time, certain that the men had actually cared for me as I did them, so it hurt even more when I realized they’d done it for money or whatever deal my father promised them. They were my age and we were young, I was naive, believing in love and falling for slick words and touches I’d never had before. When I found out, I confronted my dad, who initially denied everything. I wanted to believe he was telling the truth, that he wasn’t putting on a show by telling these men to fuck off. But several months later, I would see them leaving the house, shaking hands with my father.
I’d confided in my nanny, who held me close and told me that something similar had happened to her, except it hadn’t been her choice like it was mine. But then she told me about a secret herb to put in their drink, basically to knock them out, and then I could set the narrative. I graciously took the herb and it had been successful. Whenever anyone got too handsy, I’d offer to make them a drink, lacing the liquid with a dash of the tasteless herb, feeling a little too triumphant when they slumped over just a minute later.
But this time, it’s too late. He’s already had a drink, placing the glass back down on his cart as he makes his way back around the couch to me. If he senses that I’m on to him he doesn’t let on, and he may not. Oscar winning actors have nothing on me. He sits next to me on the couch, leaning back and putting his arm along the backside of the couch.
“Did you have fun tonight?” he asks, his eyebrows raised.
I nod. “Of course. It’s always nice to have a fun time and raise money for charity.”
“That’s what I like about this particular gala. The money actually goes to the cause and not someone’s pocket.”
An asshole with a conscience? That’s a first.
“Are you sure you don’t want a drink?”
“No, thank you, Mr. Fortier.” I glance at the clock on the wall, ornate filigray design set into the darkened wood. “Oh - it’s actually getting late. I need to be getting home.” I go to stand but he puts a hand out in front of me, preventing me from standing.
“You don’t have to go so soon, do you?”
I swallow down the scream that’s been echoing around my head and try to put on my best apologetic look. “I’m sorry, Mr. Fortier, but I do.” I go to stand, but his hand doesn’t move.
“How will you get home?”
“I’ll call a car.”
“Don’t be silly. I’ll have one of mine drive you home. Give me a moment to call them.”
I nod, not comforted by his words. It’s the way he’s looking at me that’s making me feel icky, like I want to run from the house and not stop until I’m home. Or at Robbie’s. Do I even know where he lives?
“Please have a car ready for our guest…Thank you.” He hangs up the phone and I throw him a hopefully convincing smile.
“Thank you, Mr. Fortier, for a fun night. I’m glad the fundraiser met its goal.” I move to stand when his hand tightens around my wrist, his ring digging into my skin.
“Your father promised me your time after the gala. To do what I want.”
I look at him, trying to swallow down my fear and channel all of my confidence into my gaze. “Please let me go, Mr. Fortier.”
“I will get what I want.”
“Mr-”
The sound of skin slapping against skin echoes across the quiet room, my cheek stinging with the contact as my head whips to the side. My hand instinctively comes up to my cheek, cupping it as I turn to look at him, his grip somehow tighter.
“Please, Mr. Fortier, I don’t want-”
He shakes his head. “No, you stupid girl. I don’t want to have sex with you. I have other…desires that I need to release.”
I swallow hard, not really sure what he means, but trying to take solace in the fact that he’s not wanting to take me.
“What -” My whole body is wrenched forward, face slamming against the hardwood floors as he throws me to the ground. He kicks me once, hard, and I nearly vomit, his dark chuckling getting louder as he squats next to me.
“Like I said, I have no interest in having sex with you. But putting marks on something so beautiful?” His finger graises my cheek and I flinch. “Well, that’s the fun we’re going to have tonight.”
Pain. That’s all I know for what feels like forever, my skin splitting open open over and over, bones never quite breaking but on the verge of, hair being pulled from my scalp. He meant what he said. He never touches me sexually, never makes any indication of wanting that. I can feel myself in danger of blacking out, desperately trying to cling to consciousness despite my body wanting to shut down to ease the pain. After he throws me to the floor again, my body sliding across the floor, I hear him leave the room, telling me stay put. I lay there, feeling the cold floor slick with some of my blood, my brain screaming at me to run while I have the moment, but I know I wouldn’t make it far, and that it would be worse for me if I attempted it. Something digs into my side and I realize it’s my clutch, having fallen from the couch when I was initially thrown. Wincing at the pain, I grab it, sliding it across the floor to my head. I fish out my phone, keeping one eye on the open door as I blink at the screen, unable to make out any numbers. Luckily, I only need one. Pressing the speed dial slot 1, I wait, praying to whomever is listening that Robbie is awake.
“Hey, chica.”
I nearly break down at his voice, a light shining through the darkness I’ve been pulled in.
“Nev-”
“Please come get me,” I choke out, trying to be quiet but clear. I drop my location to him when I hear Mr. Fortier’s footsteps coming back into the room.
“Where are-”
He grabs my ankle and I scream, eyes going wide as I see the riding crop held in his other hand, pleading with him to just let me go. I’m not sure how much time passes but in the back of my mind I hear him, the Charger, unmistakeable in its sound, pulling up to the house. Mr. Fortier doesn’t seem to notice, too involved in whatever sick pleasure he’s gaining from this as he raises the crop to me again and again. I cover my face, raising my arm out weakly to try and stop him, begging him to stop.
And I feel him, Robbie, barging into the room, the last thing I see before passing out is his eyes, full of fire, blazing orange as he shifts, heat enveloping the room, somehow comforting me as I black out.
—----
Neva:
I remember waking once since that night, very briefly, bright lights shining down into my face while gloved hands and a person in a white coat moves around me, poking and touching my skin where Mr. Fortier had left his mark. I remember my pulse speeding up and then he’s there, Robbie, holding my hand and pushing hair back from my face, telling me he’s got me, that I’m safe. Then I black out again.
My eyelids flutter open and at first, I’m certain I’ve gone blind. But then my eyes adjust and I realize that I’m in a room, a bedroom, and that it must be night because the room is nearly pitch black, a quiet nightlight plugged in on the other side of the room, making just enough light to see the floor. As my brain catches up to me, I start to make out shadowy shapes from around the room, a taller one that must be a dresser, a smaller one that most likely held books or a tv. I’m in a bedroom, not a hospital room, and certainly not my own room.
I slowly flex my fingers, making a fist and opening them back up against the sheets and I notice the weight next to me. Slowly, my head pounding slightly, I turn to look and see Robbie next to me, his eyes closed and lips slightly parted, a quiet snore emanating from him. God, he’s beautiful. The man I trust most in this world. Actually, the person I trust most-
Wait. Did his head turn into a flaming skull? Was he Ghost Rider? That had to be a pain hallucination. Right?
He jolts awake, his eyes finding mine and, seeing that I’m awake, he sits up, shaking his head quickly to rid it of sleep.
“Hey, chica. How are you feeling?”
“Ok, I think.” My throat is raw and then he’s holding up a glass of water, a bendy straw sticking out of the top and holding it to my lips.
“Small sips, ok?” I do as he says, the water helping to abate the raw feeling.
“How long?”
“Just a couple of days. I took you to a guy I know to get you checked out after you begged me not to bring you to a hospital.”
That explains the bright lights and white coat.
“He said you’ll be fine, that nothing was broken but you’re severely bruised, several cuts needing stitches, and that you’ll be sore for a bit. I do have some pain meds here if you need them.”
“Did…did anyone look for me?” I say this already knowing the answer.
“I…no. Well, you got a text a day or so ago, but I didn’t look.” He leans back and grabs my phone off the nightstand, handing it to me. I unlock it, navigating to the text app and, sure enough, there’s the text from my dad.
Dad: You earned us an extra 7%. A job well done.
I roll my eyes, trying to swallow back the anger and bile in my throat as I hand Robbie back the phone. His eyes glance down at the screen where I’ve left the text up, his eyes almost glowing orange as his brow furrows together in anger.
“What the fuck?” He asks, looking up at me.
I try to sit up but my body screams at me, forcing me to stay put. He takes my hand, rubbing little circles into the back of it with his thumb. “It’s ok, Neva. Just stay put.”
I nod, taking a deep breath. And then I tell him everything, how my father treated me my entire life, how I was forced to wine and dine these men or their sons, how I was able to fight most of them off with herbs given to me by my nanny, how twice it had come to more than business and how stupid I was for believing those men, even though they claimed to love me still after I found out, but the trust had been broken. How I missed the chance tonight to give the herb to Mr. Fortier, how I’ve been hurt before but never like this. I don’t look at him when I tell him, but his hand never moves from mine, squeezing it harder with every detail I give him. By the end, I’m surprised to find tears on my face, Robbie reaching up to swipe them away for me.
“So I’m not surprised no one is looking for me. My dad always sends an update text like this, that what I’ve done for the family was worth it. 7% though? If my dad saw me, he’d negotiate for at least 8%.” It was meant to be funny, trying to lighten the tension, but Robbie didn’t laugh. Or smile.
“Your dad is a bad man.”
I nod. “I’ve known that for quite a while, Robbie.”
“Why didn’t you leave the family then?”
That’s a loaded question. “I guess it was easier to stay. I was raised to do this, Robbie. By the time I’d realized how fucked up it was, my dad’s reach was far. I had no one, aside from my nanny whom he sent back to Russia. I trusted no one, resigned to my fate. And then…you. From day one you made me, no make me feel safe. Like someone cares about me, that I won’t just fade into nothing. You’re my hero, Robbie.” I finally chance a glance up at him, expecting a smile or something, but instead, I’m met with a guilty look, an undeserving expression on his face and he doesn’t look at me.
“Robbie?”
“I’m not a hero.”
I squeeze his hand. “You are. You literally saved my life that night.”
He shakes his head. “That wasn’t me.”
I scoff. “It was you who walked through the door, saw me, and it was you who pulled me from that…wait was the house on fire?”
He’s quiet for a few minutes and I give him the space he needs. He shifts next to me, making sure I can see his eyes.
“I have to tell you something, but you can’t tell anyone. Not even my brother, ok?”
I try to move again, but my body retaliates, pain radiating out from where I moved. “I promise. You can tell me anything.”
“Just…know that I feel safe with you, that it’s you who saved me. I don’t deserve it. Don’t argue, just listen, ok?” He takes a deep breath. “I’m Ghost Rider. Well, he is in me.”
“...the guy with the flaming skull head, right?”
“That’s him.”
I let out a small laugh of relief and his eyebrows pinch together. “Why are you laughing?”
“No, it’s just…I saw you...well him? Right before I passed out and I thought for sure I was going crazy, that maybe I’d hit my head too hard. God, this is a relief!”
He studies me for several long moments. “I wasn’t expecting this reaction, you sure you’re ok?”
“I feel much better now that I know my brain isn’t severely addled.”
“I tell you that I turn into a murderous being with a flaming skull for a head and your reaction is ‘oh thank God I’m not crazy’?” The corners of his mouth tick up and then he’s full on smiling. “You’re loca, Neva.”
“Maybe. But you said he’s in you? I don’t understand. Are you not an inhuman then?”
Robbie watches me for a moment and then shakes his head. He launches into an explanation, about how he was out car racing when the Fifth Street Locos attacked his car, on a hit for his uncle, how Gabe, who had simply caught him leaving the house late at night and Robbie convinced him to come along, had a bullet lodged in his spine which means he’d never walk again. How he himself was flung from the Charger, body riddled with bullets, when a voice offered him revenge and he accepted, his body reanimating and healing. How he did seek vengeance, taking out not just that gang but other people too, the Rider coming out to burn them alive, that he only took out those who deserved it. That he did burn down Mr. Fortier’s house, after taking care of him himself, to make it look like an accident.
“When I walked in and I saw him standing over you, I just lost it. The Rider too. That’s what you saw.”
I squeeze his hand harder, placing his palm on my chest. “Is that why you’re always warm?”
“Pretty much.”
“I stand by what I said before. You’re not a murderer, Robbie. You don’t kill innocent people. They deserve what they’ve gotten, I’m sure…Is it… could I talk to him?”
Robbie raises his eyebrows. “You wanna talk to him?”
“I just want to thank him personally for his part in saving me? If that’s ok.”
He watches me for a long time, like he’s having an internal conversation with himself and it dawns on me, he probably is. Just with the Rider.
“Ok.”
Robbie stands up, taking a step back from the bed, his bed, his eyes on mine. And then they’re blazing orange, like fire itself, his skin peeling back as the skull emerges, embers and flames raising from that face that holds my heart. The Rider stands there, lighting up the room as he turns his face down to me, flames licking out from where his eyes should be.
“Thank you.”
He nods, a single nod before the flames were being extinguished, skin growing back piece by piece and then Robbie’s back, immediately coming to my side, hesitating in taking my hand.
“You ok, Neva?”
I nod. “Better, now that I get to see your face.” I grunt through a little pain to bring my hand to his cheek, fingers touching the spots where I know his freckles lay. Those freckles that are the death of me.
“You’re after my dad, aren’t you?” It slips out, this thought I’d had once he told me about the Rider. And honestly, it all makes sense. He never seemed the chauffeur type. I just thought I had been lucky to find the one random, hot man driving one of my dream cars that actually wanted to drive people around in it.
“Nev-”
“It’s ok. I know he’s my father, technically, but he’s never been my dad.”
“Will we be ok?” Even though the room is dark, I can see his eyes, wide and worried, eyebrows pinched together. I manage to slide my hand up to that spot, trying to smooth away that pinch with my fingers.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
He visibly relaxes, sliding himself next to me and gently wrapping himself around me, his nose nuzzling in my hair as he inhales, all while I’m inhaling him where my face is against his broad chest.
“Can you just…wait until I’m better?”
“Did you want to see him?”
“What? Oh no. I just want Nurse Robbie to take care of me.”
He chuckles and my head bounces slightly with it, the rumbling there lulling me back to sleep.
“Nurse Robbie is on duty.”

3 months later…
Her dad was gone, the Rider had left his mark that day. Her mom had fled the country, taking every asset she could, seemingly leaving Neva with nothing. But of course, Neva was smarter than that, tucking money away for literally years, always using her dad’s credit when she needed something. She had more than enough to live comfortably the rest of her life, not filthy rich like before, but more than comfortable, eventually wearing down Robbie with her pleas of “just let me spoil you and your brother”. She’d gotten them a new place in a good part of town, pulling strings to get Gabe into a really nice school that would look great on his college applications.
When Robbie insisted he stay at Canelo’s in order to stay in the know about what was happening, in case the Rider needed to come out, she followed him, surprising Canelo himself with her extensive knowledge of cars. Her presence attracted new customers, much to the delight of Canelo.
But today was a slow day and her target was Robbie.
“Would you just hand me the wrench already?” Robbie smiles, his hand outstretched as Neva clutches the wrench to her chest, an impish smirk on her face as she shakes her head.
“Come and get it.”
He chuckles, standing with a slight grunt as his muscles stretch. “Oh you wanna play, chica?” Robbie
He lunges towards her, hands outstretched, smile on his face and she squeals, trying to run with the wrench but it’s shape making it awkward. She drops it and slows momentarily, thinking Robbie would stop but then he’s there, covering her mouth as she squeals again, smiling into his gloved hand as he pushes her into the office, locking the door behind him before giving her his own version of teasing, her fingers twisting through his hair, his name a quiet chant on her lips, and Robbie knows there is nowhere he’d rather be.

hiii! i just finished watching agents of shield season 5 and was wondering if you can write a daisy johnson x fem!reader based on the scene in season 5 when deke was going to confess his crush on daisy. so basically daisy and R (who's also on coulson's team) have been dating for a while but the team doesn't know yet, and when deke is about to tell daisy abt his crush on her, she casually mentions her gf. idk why i thought it would be hilarious 😭 also i hope it's not too confusing 😭
Lemons
Summary: When you’re in the past, don’t leave lemons on your crush’s bed.
Pairing: Daisy Johnson x female!reader, platonic Deke Shaw x Daisy Johnson x fem!reader

Deke walks towards Daisy’s room, hoping to find her there, so he could tell her he left the lemons on her bed. He doesn’t want her to think someone else, like Mack, was the one who has feelings for her.
Stopping in front of her room’s doorway, he knocks on the side. Daisy lifts her head up to look at him. He glances to see that the lemons are still on her bed, but his gaze moves to the big bag on the floor. “What’s in the bag?”
“My mom.”
“Oh.” That wasn’t what he expected, but he supposes these kind of things are normal in the SHIELD team. He walks into the room, “I heard about your little dust up, I just wanted to make sure you’re all right.”
“I’ve been better. It’s like the universe keeps reminding me I should never have come back from the future,” she pauses, turning to look at her bed, “also, some creep put a bunch of lemons on my bed, as some weird sort of prank.”
Deke scoffs, glamcing at the lemons and Daisy. “Sounds like classic Fitz.” He lets out an airy and strained laugh. Curses flow through his mind, he should’ve known giving lemons wasn’t a custom in the past. “Look, I- um, I feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. I, on the other hand, I lived in a lighthouse my entire life, only to time travel into the past and still spend every single day of my life inside the freaking lighthouse. So..it’s like, even without Kasius gone, this place just has this leash that keeps pulling me back in.”
“Well, I’m glad you stuck around, even if it’s a little crazy.” She gives him a small smile before looking down at her hands.
The smile makes Deke feel all nervous and bubbly inside. Despite the setback with the lemons, he decides to gather his courage. “Well, maybe it’s not that crazy.” He chuckles quietly. “I-I’ve been wanting to tell you something since we’ve gotten, you know,” he moves to sit next to Daisy on the couch, “I don’t want to say closer, but-“
Daisy scoffs, interrupting him. “You really don’t. Everyone who gets close to me ends up dying.”
“Me too.” Deke says almost enthusiastically, as if that was a good thing. “And that’s why I feel like we have so much in common.”
“My mom.” Daisy mumbles.
“I-I know, and-“ he tries to continue, but Daisy isn’t listening anymore.
“Lincoln.”
“Who’s Lincoln?”
“Uh, Lincoln Campbell. He..he was the first inhuman that I became close with. Fought at our side, and he- he died. He died for me, really.” She sighs, looking at the floor, the memories seeping into her mind. “Right when we were getting going, or, you know, getting good.”
“It sounds like you were really in love with this guy.”
“I was.” She smiles, now other memories invading her thoughts. Deke opens her mouth to confess, but Daisy beats her to it, “luckily I met Y/N.”
“Y/N?” He frowns. “Like, you’re lucky she’s your friend?”
“No,” Daisy laughs, “she’s my girlfriend.”
“As in..you’re dating?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.”
“What?” She raises her brows, fully turning to look at him now.
His eyes widen. “Nothing! I just didn’t know the two of you are dating.” He explains quickly, hoping she can’t see the heartbreak on his face.
“You’re actually the first one to know.”
Deke actually starts smiling. It’s a good feeling to be the one to find out something before anyone else, also, he is relieved the others didn’t send him on a fool’s errand while knowing Daisy isn’t even single. “Well, that’s nice.”
The moment gets interrupted by Y/N walking into the room, “Dais, I heard about the f-“ she stops on her track once she notices Deke sitting there. “Oh, sorry to interrupt. I’ll leave you to it.”
“Deke knows.” Daisy states with a smile, offering her hand for Y/N, so she’d come sit with them.
“Wonderful.” She mumbles. “Does Deke know how to keep his big mouth shut?”
He raises his hands and nods. “Deke does know how to keep his big mouth shut.” He would never tell her, but Y/N actually scares him a little bit, in a cool way. He thinks she is cool. Which he would also never tell her.
Daisy laughs, kissing Y/N. Deke looks away at that, feeling a ting of pain at the affection, but he’ll get over it. So, he stays in the room, talking with the pair. Because he thinks this’ll be a great trio.

Requests & Prompt-List
Warnings: NSFW, 18+!!!, sensory deprivation kink, blindfold kink, smut, fingering, kissing, nipple play, implied future smut, etc.
Enjoy (;
“Do you trust me?” She asked, holding something behind her back with one hand as she approached you on the edge of the bed.
You bit your lip in anticipation and nodded.
“Good” Melinda hummed, showing you the blindfold, before quickly tying it on your head.
Then it all went black.
Your breath became bated as you felt your senses adjust to the loss in sight. Suddenly you couldn’t feel the weight of the woman anymore. She could be anywhere…
You gasped as you felt a cool hand cup you cheek, and then a pair of warm lips meet yours. You lightly moaned into the kiss, taking all that the brunette would give you. Her hot mouth worked yours with skill, her tongue slipping into your mouth with ease. Her kiss was delicate yet direct. It left you wanting more more more, as the woman eventually pulled back completely. You whined in response.
“Patience.” Melinda hummed in reminder.
You gulped and nodded. You then felt her cold fingers once more, along your shirt line, lightly tugging on it. You quickly got the message and helped her remove your shirt. Your bra, and the rest of your clothing, down to your panties went next. Once you were completely naked, you lost her touch once more. Your lip pouted lightly but you didn’t whine.
“Go to the center of the bed.” Melinda said, chuckling at how responsive you were for her.
You scurried to the middle of the bed, awaiting the woman. A couple of minutes of silence past and you sat still in anticipation, your breath bated.
Suddenly you felt the bed dip at the end. You gasped lightly as you felt the weight come closer to you. You nearly yelped when you felt her chilly hands on your ankles, spreading your legs. Melinda came all the way up, until she was on top of you.
Your mouth was agape from the sensations. The touch was all too much yet not enough at the same time. Then you felt her fingers trail down to your core. You eagerly bucked your hips in the direction of her hand, making Melinda chuckle once more.
And then you felt her digits enter you and you damn near keeled over in pleasure. Soon along with her fingers curling inside you, you felt her hot mouth attach to one of your perked nipples.
All this did you in within minutes…
You were putty in the woman’s hands…

Rise Together (Platonic)
Requested Summary: Melinda May has always been the protector. Now though, she isn’t the only one, but instincts die hard.
Tumblr media
It was meant to be a normal mission. Get people out and deal with the Watchdogs. You’d found a bomb, and managed to get everyone else out before it went off. While everyone get out, they realised they were missing one person.
You.
It takes a moment for them to realise; mainly because they’re accounting for everyone else - the civilians - before they realise. It’s Daisy who mentions. The others soon realise where you most likely are as well. They all look at the building. One that may be your tomb.
May runs as fast as she can back to the site, she’s meant to protect you. And she’s failed.
They know they can’t did through the massive parts of the building. But there are small things they can move.
So, they get to work.
They’re desperate with their moments. They’re just clawing away at what they can, calling out to you as well. They just hope their throats don’t give up on them as they keep calling out for you. So far, nothing has come back.
Then, for once, they get lucky. They find a hand, and a whole lot of blood.
“Oh god,” May says, betraying her concern. The others all swarm, helping her move the rubble away. They can’t even describe your state.
May puts pressure on your wound, or well, one of them. This one is deep, something impaled you at some point and went through cleanly.
Jemma is barking orders, but May’s not hearing it. The voices are faded. All she can focus on is you. You’re not breathing. You look dead. May looks at her hands, pretty much caked in blood, get covered over by two more. Looking over, she sees Daisy, who gives May a shaky smile.
Her senses start to come back to her, even with her heart pounding.
“They’ll be ok,” Daisy promises, “they’ll be ok.”
May then realises her hands are off the wound, she goes to move them back, but Daisy squeezes May’s hands and keeps eye contact with the woman, “hey. May, hey,” she says, “we’ve got them now. Y/N will be ok. We’ll make sure of it, alright? We’ve got them.”
Daisy has done her job of distraction, as you’re out of the rubble and being loaded onto a stretcher. It makes May’s stomach churn.
Slowly, the two stand up. May watches you go. Daisy looks as well, biting her lip in anxiety.
It’s May who squeezes Daisy’s hands this time.
They’ve done all they can. They got you out. Jemma and her team just have to make sure you live.
It’s not just her looking out for you anymore. You both have gained a family who will do all they can for you.
She takes a breath, and hopes.

Don’t sink too deep
character: Leopold Fitz agents of shield
Genre: angst
Warnings: water/drowning, brain damage, use of Y/N
Author note: might make this a series, so this would be part 1.
submit a request
Tumblr media
Ward trapped you, Simmons, and Fitz in the box. The three of you sunk down into the sea.
You watched as they tried to figure out a way for us to escape. You weren’t a scientist. You’re good at fighting and hacking.
Fitz and Simmons figured out how to get out of the box, but there was one problem. They could only make two oxygen sources. Fitz and Simmons were arguing on who should take the sources.
“You two can take the sources.” Fitz said firmly and handed you one of the sources.
Jemma shakes her head, “no Fitz I will not take it.” Tries to hand him one
They argue back and forth.
“Shut up!” You yelled and they stopped talking, “ I can’t swim. I shouldn’t have a source. It’d be a waste. I can’t hold my breath long enough to get out of here.” Hands Fitz the source. They both try to argue with you but you move to the door. “Take it now. I’m opening the door!” You hang close to the door switch.
They use the oxygen and both grab onto one of your arms and swim up.
*timeskip*
“She has damage to her temporal lobe” you heard someone say. You could also feel someone’s hand on top of yours. The room was quiet, but not peaceful. It was the type of quiet that sends you into flight or fight, but with your current position you could do neither. Your body was still very weak so you couldn’t open your eyes yet. You could hear the faint sounds of people talking quietly in a separate room.“Don’t worry Y/N you’ll be fine.” It was Fitz, he sounded as though he was talking more to himself. You could hear his foot nervously tapping on the floor.
You had been stuck in this room for weeks. Simmons and other people would come in and check on you every so often. Though the one person that checked on you daily was Leo Fitz. When you had more energy you could open your eyes and sit up. Fitz was so excited to see you.
“Y/N! You’re looking so much better!” He quickly walked up to and in the chair next to your bed. He went to reach for your hand but then stopped and fidgeted. “May I? Hold your hand?” He asked. You nod.
“Of course, you- you can.” The words stumble awkwardly out of your mouth. Simmons did tell you might have trouble speaking from now on. It was weird to hear your voice like this. Especially since you haven’t talked since the incident. He held your hand. You tried to stop your hand from shaking but it wouldn’t stop.
Fitz didn’t realize how much he cared about you until he saw you like this. He wanted to protect you. Though he feels like he already messed that up. If only you took the oxygen.

The truth hurts, doesn’t it? | Agents Of SHIELD Fanfic
Tumblr media
Summary: Everything good must have been an interesting lie underneath it all, waiting to be uncovered, but the question is how will you take it?
Pairing: Grant Ward x OC, Grant Ward & Amelia Parker (WardParker)
Setting: Captain America The Winter Solider and Agents Of SHIELD season 1
Spoilers for Agents Of SHIELD 1x17–1x20
Warning: Blood, mentions of anxiety, heartbreak, a bit of manipulation, betrayal
Characters mentioned: Nikolai, Marlene, Melissa, Coulson, Fury, May, Skye, Fitzsimmons, Tripp and The Young Avengers
——
It felt like madness. The air was thick and colder than they would’ve liked. The team was tired, confused and more or less worried. Trying to figure out what to do next and how to stick together while doing so. There were some agents coming in and out of the bunker, they were even set underneath an lie detector and all passed with flying colors.
The cell service was better than expect, they had food, water, and shelter that’s what matters.
It was a late afternoon when it happened.
Practically night.
Everyone was doing their own thing. Some were trying to rest like Fitz and Jemma, some were on computers doing research such as Skye, and others were training themselves for the bigger fight near the locker area.
Amelia felt on edge, these last few weeks it was like a nervous twitch creeping up on her waiting to snap. She wasn’t thinking straight about anything, as far as they knew Fury is dead. Hell, she wasn’t sure if Nikolai, Marlene, or Melissa were fully aware of the situation in place, even though she sent an critical message to them.
She knew that none of the young avengers or adults one had any clue about what exactly was happening, due to the truth of Coulson’s death was kept from most of them. But HYDRA creeping around wasn’t something truly hidden per say…
Sometimes she felt like it was this shivering headache that reached from the back of her neck toward the front of her forehead. This whole situation bothered her to the inch of her bones, this chilling adventure she didn’t remember signing up for in the first place.
Maybe she needed a nap? Watch a video to relax her mind? Hell, splash some water crossed her face to try and clear her head?
Walking past the supply room, she left oddly enough weary like she was missing something. It was just her anxiety seeping itself, as she thought. An odd feeling recklessly filled the rest of the area, as she scurried into one of the restrooms.
Closing the door behind her, she let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. Her joints hurt, twisting themselves into her shoulders as she rested her arms against the bathroom sink. Her vision went blurry for a moment, her back arched froward as she unzipped her jacket to breathe and roll up her sleeves.
She turned on the knobs as she splashed some cold water on her face, wiping her eyes browns and rubbed her eyelids facing the mirror for a quick second. She mumbled a few things to herself, wishing she was back on the bus with her friends like nothing happened, but she knew it couldn’t do a blasted thing about it. She grabbed an towel to dry her face, as she wiped her face out of the corner of her eye she noticed something that set her off.
An automatic sliding painting that was supposed to set to afternoon, was lowing a hushed flickering light. She clenched the towel against her fist stepping forward to notice an dagger, a small knife, stabbed into the edge of the painting. It was waiting to bent over and break, there was a hatch breathe in Amelia’s throat as she removed it from the placing.
The painting slid upwards to display a horrific glint of flickering lights as the slashing words ran across the screen. The sunset frame brushed against the wording in deep gashes.
Tumblr media
Amelia blinked, gasping a shaky breath that catches in her throat. She shakes her head at the wording in disbelief, as if she couldn’t do anything but freeze. Her fingernails were pressed so hard against her palm, she would’ve drawn blood.
“N-no..” She mumbled underneath her breath, “..no, no..no!”
Suddenly her voice became so small, her eyes waters and her mouth went dry. The denial sinks in so fast, she stumbled back hesitant to run her fingers across the painting.
“It’s not him..” She muttered softly accidentally dropping the towel on the floor, unable to breathe once again and laced in shock.
Ward Is Hydra.
The words ran by her eyesight in pure shock. She thought it was a trick, some sort of joke being made to use her own wits against the team. Amelia heard people saying that Coulson or May might be Hydra, that even one of their agents might play a game to see who’s loyal or not.
Someone knew about this before her, but they couldn’t. They all passes every single test with—
An loud noise startled Amelia, hands of her hips as she ran her hands above her waistline stumbling out of the room shaking her head taking another glance at the sign. She practically slid down the hallway, tripped over her steps stopped inside one of the supply closets to find Jemma racing out of the room at the same time as she entered.
She narrowed her vision in confusion, sending a odd look to her teammates. They were field agents but also scientists and technicians who weren’t used to this whole thing, so it was understandable if they was uneasy with whatever they saw. But it couldn’t be that bad, right?
Wrong!
The moment she wiped her head inside the room, the sight would’ve had her screaming if it weren’t for her biting her buttons lip and gripping the doorknob. There was a blush of heated dripping liquid slowly hitting the floor from above, as her gaze followed it towards the red drops, her eyes widened.
Blood from a fellow agent, laying dead against the ceiling and high shelves. Their eyes were closed, killed in the late hours of the afternoon in a dark supply closet. Amelia was left in utter tears, silence and shockingly loud noise ringing in her heads. She felt hurt and heavy, wonder where the hell is the rest of the team.
Amelia felt like she might throw up, fumbling with her pocket trying to reach her phone as her other hand cover her mouth. She tried reaching Nikolai and no response, Marlene and no response and even Melissa had no single response. There was a mole in the bunker.
Skye was still upstairs doing research, as Amelia raced upstairs to face her as she whisper yelled, “Skye! What do you know?”
She looked up with a gasping glare, “I’m guessing you know?”
“Yes! And it’s not him..it can’t be him!”
“You don’t know that..Ward has lied to us, Amelia..he’s Hydra.”
“He lied to the team! But I have known that man for 4 years, Skye! 4 years!”
“You think I like this?! I fell for the man, I kissed him..I still think I love him..”
“Oh god..okay, maybe this is just a game right? Ward treats us different, something’s not right..”
“…you still feel like you love him, don’t you?”
“Well the truth hurts, doesn’t it Skye? We just gotta play along.”
“I’m already doing that, I feel hurt Amelia. But I’m gonna follow Ward, see what’s going on in his head and if something happens.”
“Okay, yeah..okay. I’ll try to see who I can contact and prepare for whatever Ward thinks he might pull..”
There was an unspoken sense of urgency in their eyes. Grant Ward is Hydra but that concern and confusion hurt both of their feelings.
Mainly Amelia’s heart.
It felt like the five stages of grief, sadness and anxiety was rushing across her veins. She felt alone, betrayed and abandoned, even though she wasn’t, it felt that way.
———
The next 48 hours was a world wind..
So many things happened, from unexpected agents trying ambushing the bunker and buildings to the news about some of their fellow agents dying protecting the property of SHIELD. No one knew who was right or wronged here, who’s good and who’s bad. Fitz and Simmons were off doing their own thing for Coulson, May have gone with a couple of glares, Tripp rushed off to get extra stuff, and John Garrets got into a fight with Coulson.
Hell, Skye was sharing a few short moments with Ward himself.
Honestly Amelia felt bad for Skye, she knew she felt deeply for Ward since their chemistry climbed upon the time they all spend together on the plane. She also knew Grant felt some very similar feelings for her, as he was teased about it from the team.
She was still trying to contact her friends but nothing came up, tears rising to be released. She felt nauseous, a little numb and bruised. As if she was in the middle of a hot flash.
Currently, she sat nearby couch of a decently small room with her head in her hands, tiredly sighing. The door gently opened as in came the man of the hour, noticing her downing look as he looked at the girl in concern.
Tumblr media
He sat down beside her, leaning against one of the chairs and asked, “Sweetheart..are you okay?”
“Hm?” She replied, peeking in between her hands to look at him.
“What happened?”
“You really asking me that?”
He scoffed, “Yeah, I know what’s happening. I wish it wasn’t like this but we can’t do anything about it.”
“It feels like I’m being caught in a horror movie.” She added.
“What? Like Scream? Who’s the killer?”
“One of our agents..we don’t know who’s on our side or not.”
“More like multiple agents, you don’t know who is really involved in SHIELD or HYDRA. You probably think I can’t be trusted, Ames.”
“Ward, honey, I trust you. I do. But the question is, will you actually be telling me the truth or not..”
“I alway try to tell you the truth, even if it hurts.”
At that moment, she removed her hands from her face and turned to face him, “Oh really?”
He straightened his shoulders seeing the look on her face as he sighed, “Amelia, are you seriously asking me that?”
“Grant, you lied to me before about missions to keep me and the team safe. You could be lying to me right now.”
“And you lied to me more than once to keep me in the loop. I’m being honest here. Do you trust me?”
“Do you trust enough to tell me the truth?”
~~~
And there it was again. The line that has been repeatedly said by one another the moment they trained, to the times the group was on the road for missions. Even in moments of daring action, where it might result in something serious or stupid.
The glances, the nods, the smiles or smirks, the pointing and the questions..
Do you trust me?
It hurts how much those words carried so much, such as a heavyweight question to them.
~~~
They both sat there in silence. The silence was so loud, it was painful to even notice the smell of their perfume and cologne that filled the room. Ward could see the oddly wave of emotions that washed over her face, it honestly felt like he was ripping her heart out of her chest.
He hated seeing her upset, it’s why Grant practically took a beating from his boss, Garret, when the man told him how soft he gets around the people he cared for. And he won’t admit it but it’s true. Deep down he cared about Amelia, Daisy, Fitz and Jemma. He respected Coulson and May. Especially with how much time he spent with the team was placed into.
“Do you trust us? Did you even love me?” Said a small broken voice that belonged to Amelia, looking down at her hands, her fingers were laced with cuts and small gashes.
“Oh my god, Ames..” He replied, standing up as he went to sit down next to her grabbing her hand gently, “..of course, I trust you. You know I love you, I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you if it meant you would feel like this.”
“I’ve known you for 4 years Grant. 4 years, I have stood by your side fighting on the ground and the skies to make sure everyone was safe, to come home safe and sound. As a team and now..”
“4 years and I don’t regret anything, none of our time together. I can explain whatever it is that is crossing your mind.”
~~
Tumblr media
She knows. He knows.
~~
Amelia wiped her head over to see him and asked, “Can you?! Can you look me in the eye and tell me you are on the same team?”
“You weren’t meant to get hurt! You and I were always on the same team, don’t you dare think that there is anything, past or present, that I would put in front of you!” Grant replied yelling, hesitant to let her hand go.
“I swear, you weren’t even on the same team to beginning with! You were loyal to HYDRA.”
“No. I wasn’t ever loyal to HYDRA, if anything I would say I’m loyal to Garret.”
“You killed people.”
“And you haven’t?”
“I..”
“The last few days you have shot down unexpected agents, not knowing if they were on your side or not. You and I are just trying to protect ourselves here! That’s all what we’re trying to do.”
“Were you ever gonna tell me?”
“Of course I was. Garret wanted you dead! I couldn’t let that happen! I’m trying to protect you here, I was just trying to protect all of us.”
“By keeping this secret from me? I know you are never one to talk about how you feel, but this..this should’ve been something you should’ve told me..”
“And have you act like this towards me? I told you years ago, I’m not a good man, Ames..and yet you stood by me. You and Skye decided to stay beside me no matter how bad it got.”
“And I said ‘yes you are.’ But right now, i just can’t imagine what I should and shouldn’t believe here. Was I pawned in your little lie, huh? Was I?”
Tumblr media
At some point both of them were standing up, pacing the room grunting and groaning in annoyance. The room felt like it was heating up due to the argument that forming between them.
Tears were forever forming in her eyesight, running her fingers across her hair as her eyebrows furrowed as her glares softened. She was hurt, she more than hurt and her emotions were breaking in front of her. Tears that being hold back for more than 48 hours finally were getting to see the light of day.
He sighed deeply, wishing he didn’t see those tears, knowing that he will have to deal with Skye later on but this, he looked away from. His hands rested on his hips shaking his head, his anger was rising and his annoyance was taking form. This wasn’t the plan, she wasn’t supposed to get hurt. It wasn’t supposed to be personal for any of them.
“No. You weren’t ever part of the plan nor a pawn, Ames. Believe me, I didn’t expect you to come into my life and change things up!” Grant admitted closing his eyes shut, “It’s over. It’s done, i can’t do anything about it. For once in my life I wanted something that was for me, not Garret giving me orders here! And you came in, yes I lied to you but it wasn’t personal..I swear it wasn’t!”
“Oh, but i think it was! Please, Grant I’m begging you..you’re living a double life here! Getting so close, yet so far to people. I didn’t expect for you to come into my life but you did!” She admitted, “..you were..you lied to me. You lied to me. Don’t hurt Skye, more you than probably are already.”
“I won’t regret getting here and I won’t think about hurting Skye. But Ames, someday you will understand what i have gone through to keep you safe because I love you..”
“So why does it hurt so bad? What are you gonna do next? Lock me up in here? Because your definition of keeping me safe from it all sounds like a hell lot of lies..why?”
“Everything i ever felt for you was real, don’t you get it?! But I won’t betray Garret..”
“..because me and the team woke up a weakness inside of you. I..i don’t know what to think, or believe right now, alright?! I..i..”
Tumblr media
Amelia felt weak, not like an agent of shield or anything. Just hurt, broken, betrayed as she crumbled underneath her feet about to walk away.
That was when Ward gently swiftly her back in effort to calm her down as she tried fighting back.
She tried pulling away, hitting him in the chest as hard as she could, causing him to stumble back regaining his stance. Grant just held her in his arms, grabbing her wrist as she repeatedly kept hitting his chest.
“Stop! Stop it, Ames!” Ward said, practically growled at her, “You’re embarrassing yourself here. I won’t kill you or our team, i promise!”
“You promise?” She said, mumbling and stopped hitting his chest, resting her forehead against his chest instead.
“I promise. You can tell them or shout it from the rooftops, but HYDRA is already here.”
“I failed..you failed me, Grant. HYDRA is here..oh god, there’s nothing else to say.”
“I know, baby. I know..”
She just cried into his arms, banging her fist softly again his best. He wrapped kept his embrace tightly, closing his eyes and kissed her forehead before walking away.
“W-where you going?” She asked.
“It’s for your own good, Ames.” He replied.
Without a second later, Grant speeded away out the door, locking the door behind him as you can hear Amelia screams and shouted trying to unlock it. He squeezed his eyes shut and made his out of the hallway.
Amelia grunted realized what he was about to do and scrambled to search for her phone, quickly she texted Skye a message.
‘He’s coming to you.’ She messaged
She responded, ‘On it. You okay?’
‘Will be..’
‘Okay.’
———
Amelia Parker was on the verge of tears once again, anger filling up her mind and conflicted onto what was happening next.
Her next move was informing Coulson, Hill and whoever else was online about what she knows from her research. At the same time, she tried finding a way out, possibly crawling across the vent.
“T-this is agent..Amelia Parker..we found one of the moles, Hydra is dead set of seeking into whatever corner they can. Garret is one of leaders, i don’t know who’s his boss but we need extra weapons, load up the power grids at every SHIELD Facility we can. You should know that Project Insight is part of it. Keep a-any updates coming from any scanners and detectors available. And most importantly, watch your six, you..you don’t know who is your friend or foe..” She said into her voicemail, messaging anyone on her contact list.
She knew that her voice message may have come out choppy or a bit rushed per say due to the sound of her voice, but it was all she can mange at the moment. It sounds like she was exhausted and most likely finished crying before starting that message.
She was practically locked in a bunker in what feels like the middle of nowhere, with not the best service but it manageable if you knew how to handle some technical problems. She just found out that the organization, she has been working for has a lot of issues and the people she thought she knew had more secrets than she ever expected…
Of course she was a mess!
Her only hopes were that she can get out here soon, and her message was sent out to her friends and fellow actual agents. Oh heavens, did she hope her friends and loved ones were safe..

My Type
Ship: Daisy Johnson x fem!reader
Summary: You struggle to come out to the team, but after a game of ‘fuck, marry, kill’, you accidentally reveal that you have a crush. When the team meets Deke, Daisy suggests you should ask him out because she thinks he's your type. But she doesn't know that she's actually your type.
Warnings: none
Word Count: 2.4k
Tumblr media
“Fuck Fury, marry Tony Stark, kill Hulk,” Hunter answered Bobbi’s question, slurring his words slightly and waving his bottle of beer in air as if to emphasise his words.
“You answered that a bit too fast, Hunter,” Mack laughed.
“Yeah, and why marry Tony Stark? He's a bit of an egomaniac,” Bobbi asked.
“For the money, duh. He's bloody loaded.”
“I think you guys are focussing on the wrong part,” Fitz chimed in. “Hunter seems to think he can kill the Hulk.”
“Of course, I don't. It's hypothetical and I can say what I want.”
“Fine, whatever. Who's next?” Mack turned to you, sitting next to Hunter.
“Fire away.” You laughed, sipping your drink.
The team had gotten back from a particularly tough mission a few hours ago and Coulson had suggested that everyone take the night off while he finished off the mission report. This, of course, led to Hunter and Mack pulling out the beers and ordering take out.
You were all relaxing on the couches chatting amongst yourselves and relieving the stress of the mission. By now, everyone was fairly drunk and Hunter had suggested playing a game. The team settled on ‘fuck, marry, kill’ with the Avengers.
“Okay, let me think.” Mack scratched his head in an over-the-top thinking gesture, causing some giggles from Jemma and Daisy. “What about … Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man.”
You internally cringed at the mention of only male Avengers. You hadn't come out to the team yet. With all the constant danger, there had never been a right time. But you hid how you felt about Mack’s choices. May had taught you well.
“Hey we just had Iron Man!” Hunter protested.
“No, we had Tony Stark,” Mack countered.
“Same person, Mack.”
“Fine.” Mack sighed. “Thor, Captain America, and …”
You prayed for Black Widow, or Maria Hill, even though she wasn't technically an Avenger.
“Hawkeye,” Mack finished.
Damn, you had forgotten about him.
You hummed, pretending to think it over. Your heart picked up slightly when you released now would be a good time to tell everyone you didn't like men. You were all relaxed and having fun, no one was in immediate danger … Sure, it wasn't the perfect time, and May and Coulson weren't here so you would have to tell them separately, but is there ever really a perfect time? And if it went badly, you could always blame it on the alcohol or hope there was a chance that everyone would be too drunk to remember in the morning.
Okay, here goes. You took a deep breath.
“Hmm, I'm not sure. None of them are really my type.”
This caused gasps of shock from Bobbi, Jemma, Yo-Yo, and Daisy.
“How is Thor not your type?” Bobbi asked.
“Yeah, Thor is everyone's type,” Yo-Yo stated matter-of-factly.
“Even May said he was dreamy!” Daisy added
“Have to agree with ladies, love. Thor is pretty hot.” Hunter shrugged.
“Plus, that's not the game,” Fitz added. “It doesn't really matter who's your type, you still have to choose. I mean, I married Loki on my go and I hate that guy.”
Okay, so that didn't go as planned. Never mind, just roll with it.
“I know.” You laughed. “I just wanted to see your reactions. I guess, I'll fuck Thor, marry Captain America, and kill Hawkeye. But let the record show that I feel bad because Hawkeye seems like a genuinely nice guy.”
“Interesting,” Jemma spoke up. “Why not marry Thor? He's a god and you'd get free trips to space.”
“Damn, what is with the Thor obsession?” You held up your hands in mock surrender. “I just figured that marrying Cap would be great because he'd be a gentleman. I mean, he is from the 40s. Plus, he probably knows how to dance and it's something I kinda want to learn.”
“Yeah, I can see the appeal.” Yo-Yo nodded.
“I'm curious. What is your type, if it's not three of the most attractive men on the planet?” Hunter nudged you playfully.
“Uh.” You hesitated. Here it is, this is the moment. Just reply “women”. It's that simple. It's just one word.
But your eyes landed on Daisy, looking at you expectantly, waiting for your answer, and the word got stuck in your throat.
You had had a crush on Daisy for months now. You had been working with Bobbi and Mack under Robert Gonzalez, tasked with infiltrating Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. and reporting back. But when you had met Daisy, things had gotten complicated. You had pushed your feelings aside, determined to finish the mission. But when the two S.H.I.E.L.D.s had merged to fight against the Inhumans at Afterlife, you had watched Daisy become stronger and more confident, controlling her powers despite the pain she was going through. You admired her and your feelings for her had only gotten stronger the more you got to know her.
But you knew she didn't feel the same way. You had watched her flirt with Lincoln and she had opened up to you about her past relationships; one with a man called Miles, a hacktivist who sold information leading to the death of a powered person, and her relationship with Grant Ward, who turned out to be Hydra. She never mentioned being in a relationship with a woman or even liking women at all.
But then again, neither had you.
“Yeah, come on, y/n.” Mack’s voice broke you out of your thoughts. “What is your type?”
“Uh, I don't know. Dark hair, maybe?” Your thoughts drifted back to Daisy. “Kind eyes, and a bright smile. Someone who's very smart and can be intimidating at times but also makes everyone laugh.” You stopped when you heard Jemma giggle. You looked up at her. “What?”
She smiled knowingly. “That's very specific. Sounds like you have someone in mind.”
“No I –” You started to defend yourself but Yo-Yo cut you off.
“Yeah, look at you blushing and smiling. You definitely have a crush.”
“Come on then. Tell us who it is.” Daisy leaned forward, resting her forearms on her thighs, smirking playfully at you.
Your whole body tensed up at her words. Your hands which had been fiddling with your bottle stilled and your back straightened slightly. Out of the corner of your eye, you caught Hunter staring at you, the teasing smile on his face faltering a little when he noticed your body language. Then he laughed loudly and threw his arm around your shoulders.
“Oh don't make the poor woman say it out loud. She's obviously embarrassed. But it's okay, love. No need to be ashamed. I’m a real catch, I know.”
There was a pause before the whole room erupted in laughter. Hunter looked around in mock offense and you caught on to what he was doing; he had noticed you were uncomfortable and shifted everyone's attention onto him instead. You made a mental note to thank him later.
“What the hell makes you think she was describing you of all people?” Fitz asked incredulously.
“Yeah, no offense Hunter, but you're not exactly intimidating.” Mack wiped tears of laughter from his eyes.
“I can be!”
“Well, you're not all that smart either,” Bobbi joked.
Hunter gasped dramatically and clutched his chest, falling back on the couch.
“You wound me. You really are a demon, you know that Bob?”
“Ugh, you're such a flirt.” She rolled her eyes at him but she was smiling fondly.
Later, after everyone had turned in for the night, you stayed behind to clean up the kitchen area. As you binned some empty bottles, you heard someone approach you. You turned around to find Hunter holding more empty bottles. He placed them on the counter before turning his attention to you.
“So, Daisy, huh?”
“I don't know what you're talking about.” You grabbed the bottles off the counter and put them in the bin.
“Yeah, you do. Are you going to tell her?”
You sighed. “No. Not right now anyway.” But you knew that was a lie. You’d had many opportunities to tell Daisy how you felt but you always chickened out at the last second.
“Just a word of advice, don't wait too long. When you do a job like this, the future isn't certain. You never know what we'll face next or if we'll even survive it. You don't want any regrets.”
“Speaking from experience?”
“Hey, this isn't about me. But for the record, yes. I don't always remember to tell Bobbi I love her and I always regret it when something bad happens. Also, we're all watching Mack and Yo-Yo flirting with each other but avoiding any real conversation about their feelings and it's getting painful at this point. So, just don't wait too long, yeah?” He said as he turned to leave.
“Yeah, alright,” you agreed.
But, little did you know, it would be years before you ever told anyone else.
~~~
The team had made it back from the deadly post-apocalyptic future and thankfully everyone was alive. It was just you, Daisy, and Noah in the Lighthouse, until Daisy had spotted Deke on the computer. She had left to break him out of prison and they had returned successfully. But you were still waiting for the rest of the team to return from their mission.
Now, Daisy was watching Deke, who was talking to Noah across the control room, while she ate cereal out of the box.
“You know, he's totally your type.” She spoke in a hushed voice, as if she was telling you a secret.
“What do you mean?” You looked away from the monitor on the desk, confused as to why she would bring this up out of blue. You had never shown any interest in Deke when you met in the future and you were hesitant about him being in the Lighthouse.
“I mean, he totally fits what you described as your type,” she replied, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. But when you gave her a confused look she sighed and explained. “Remember a few years ago, while we were still living in the Playground, we all got drunk and played ‘fuck, marry, kill’?”
You nodded. Considering all the crazy stuff that had happened since then, you had honestly forgotten about that night. Then it suddenly hit you where Daisy was going with this.
“And you described your type and Hunter joked about you having a crush on him–”
“Yeah, Daisy. That's not–” You tried to stop her but she kept going.
“Well, I think Deke kinda fits the criteria. First of all, he has dark hair. He doesn't smile very often but when he does, it's nice. I don't really know what you meant by kind eyes but I know he can be a bit intimidating. I mean he sold me to Kasius and that was scary. And I suppose he is sort of smart, in his own way. I also watched the footage of him getting drunk at the bar and it's very funny. So, you see, he may be a bit annoying, but he's definitely your type.”
“He's really not. Trust me.”
“I'm serious. You should ask him out.”
You laughed out loud at that, causing Deke and Noah to look your way curiously. Daisy shushed you jokingly but that just made you laugh harder. Deke and Noah went back to their conversation while you caught your breath.
“There is no way I'm asking him out. He's a complete moron and, like you said, he sold you to Kasius. So hell no.” You paused for a moment. “But what I want to know is, how did you remember all that stuff? I said that years ago. I didn't even remember saying it until you brought it up.”
Daisy looked away, inspecting her monitor for news of the team. You felt like she was deliberately avoiding your gaze, and you swore you could see a light dusting of pink colouring her cheeks through her dark hair.
Before you could say anything else, Deke and Noah called out to you both, drawing your attention to the monitors on the wall. The rest of the team had returned.
~~~
Later, you and Deke were searching one of the many storage rooms in the Lighthouse for something that Fitz needed to close the rift to the Fear Dimension. Because apparently that existed now. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents never can catch a break.
“Look, it'll probably be quicker if we both search different rooms,” you suggested.
Deke agreed and left, bumping into Daisy on the way out. She entered the storage room, leaning against the wall. You could feel her staring so you turned to her. She raised one eyebrow at you.
“What?” You asked.
“You tell me. You and Deke … alone … in a storage room…”
“Oh shut up. You know it's not like that.”
“Why not?”
“Daisy, are you seriously trying to set me up with Deke? I mean, really, of all people? Deke?” You rolled your eyes and turned back to the box you were searching.
“Oh come on, he's your–”
“He is not my type, Daisy!” You snapped loudly, slamming something back in the box. “You really wanna know why? It's because he's a man!” You turned to face her as you confessed.
There was a pause as you realised what you just said. You closed your eyes and sighed.
“Shit,” you cursed under your breath.
Might as well come clean about everything, while we're at it.
“He's a man, Daisy. I don't like men. I never have,” you continued, quieter this time. “In fact, that night, I was talking about someone specific, someone I had a crush on. Someone I still have a crush on,” you corrected yourself and took a deep breath, preparing for what you were about to say next. “It's you Daisy. You're my type. I was just too scared to tell you. I didn't want to ruin our friendship because it means so much to me. And I understand if you don't feel the same–”
“Actually, I do,” Daisy interrupted you, all traces of her previously teasing tone gone. “I do feel the same about you.”
“Oh, okay,” you spoke softly, shocked.
Daisy smiled at you, that bright smile that you loved so much. Then she closed the distance between the two of you, pressing her lips gently to yours.
The moment was interrupted by hurried footsteps coming down the hall and Deke throwing open the door.
“I found the thing Fitz needs. Let's go.” He didn't even stop long enough to process what he interrupted before running away towards the control room.
You turned back to Daisy and you both laughed. She took your hand and you headed down the hall hand in hand.

The reckless denial | Agents Of SHIELD Fic
Tumblr media
Setting: Takes place during season 2
Characters mentioned: Skye, Fitzsimmons, Mack, Coulson, Rick Banner, Luna Marsh, Cole Lehnsherr and Liane Felton
Established Pairing: Rick & Luna
Fic type: Blurb
———
—Last said in the last post…
And most importantly, Amelia undergoes an even more shocking turn of events due to shield discovery of alien, inhuman and mutant activity across the country. During an trip to Puerto Rico, one of islands underneath the caves held the rumbling ability to unlock unhinged truths.
While Skye and Tripp were down there, in the mist of the explosive wave that resulted in Skye’s odd transformation, Amelia was effected in the blast getting hurt as she watched Tripp die.
But that wasn’t the only thing that happened…
Amelia woke up on the thick warmly crumbling ground with a splitting headache cause she was throw against a deep wall in the cave. She bleed a bit from the blast, seem to have taken a strong impressionable hit.
She rolled onto her chest, pushing herself to stand up as she winced racing around to the edge to only looked over to notice Tripp’s in crumbling ashes. Dead, as if he was turned to stone then been destroyed within a matter of seconds.
She noticed Skye on standing there, surrounded by dust and rock, as the whole place was rumbling and pillars were falling apart within the cave. She looked at her with fear, confusion, and surreal shock as her fists were uncurling themselves.
Amelia didn’t hesitate to hover a hand over Skye’s back ushering her out of the cave, as she helped lead everyone out of there as safety as possible. The rumbling continued frequently as they all moved along the path then stopped by the women they reached most of the other half of the team.
~~~~
Some time later, everyone returned back to the SHIELD facility, being looked over and being patched up for any damage. Skye was quickly moved into a separate clear room, being watched up machines, scientist and medical staff until further noticed.
She was basically in quarantine for a while, meanwhile everyone else was doing their best to figure out happens next. Everyone was quarantined for a bit to heal and release whatever might’ve been in their system from the swimming blast.
Fitzsimmons were suspicious as they ran tests on her state. They all were suspicious at how Skye was still standing but seemingly hurt.
Her vitals were interesting to say the least, Amelia was more than curious about it as she took recommended Advil for her headaches during the whole situation. Hell, they were grieving Tripp’s death in their own way! She noticed everyone’s cyclone ways of dealing with the aftermath of the storm they were all hit with.
A storm of emotions filled with sadness, anger, anxiety, depression and straight up denial of it all. Trying to forget everything happened but they couldn’t. Hell they were ready to fight one another and throw a few chairs. Skye was shaking and crying at the mere thought because she was the one to see the process of his death, everyone just saw the aftermath. Blaming herself as Amelia and Coulson comforted her, knowing it wasn’t her fault even though it felt like it was to her.
~~~
To keep herself from getting too overwhelmed and wanting to smack someone like Mack or race off to use Hunter as a mini punching bag, she decided to escape to Avengers Tower for a bit due to not being there in a while.
The consuming energy that floated around Amelia as she watched and hung out with friends such Rick, Liane and Luna calmed her down. They asked her what happened but she was under strict orders to not say much of the circumstances to her visit, despite the fact that she wanted to let them know. Assuming it was on the news right now of the rumbling from Puerto Rico and tunnels being collapsed.
Tumblr media
Rick being the more cautious person there, sensed something was off about her energy. He sniffed an underwhelming amount of concern and denial from her but he sensed something more, after hearing about the strong headaches. And the fact that seemed to have not slept in a long period of time. Luna was more than curious about it all and wondered what happened, promising to not tell the others as Amelia pointed to the TV screen and slowly explained how there was a swimming blast that knocked her out cold. She tried to connect the dots.
Liane’s firey personality was suspicious and skeptical of Amelia Parker, wanting to figure out what exactly happened to her physically after hearing the story beats of her tale. She watched her fingers tinker, her eyes narrow as of she was having another headache, almost nervous like Luna. Imitating her impressions and anxiety from curiosity that surged into her veins, as Liane grinned as her and Rick went to talk.
It confused and concerned Amelia as she stayed talking with Luna at how much they felt about the situation. One moment she’s fine and another she’s feeling ticked off due to Rick and Liane’s dispute as Luna kept wanting to ease her mind.
~~~~
It felt like her head was hurting, spinning as she sense the uprising engulfed energetic personalities bounce off from one another. Like she can sense their feelings battling to stay a bay. Amelia thought back to the argument at the SHIELD between Mack, Bobbi, Coulson, May, Hunter and herself as she sensed Skye’s discomfort for a split second, yelling over everyone to cool down separately.
This anxiety written feeling crept up her back, feeling hot and heavy blinking between Luna and the table in the living room. As if her vision went blurry for a moment, like she might pass out. Luna held her up and asked if she was alright, with her own powers she could sense she was freaking out as she called for Rick and Liane for help.
Tumblr media
Luna gasped greatly noticing a flicker in Amelia’s eyes then disappeared just as quickly. She barely saw any color in her eyes.
~~~~
Rick raced in surprise to see Amelia having a anxiety attack, it was rarely a thing to see with her always being just fine, but it concerned him watching her as he tried to help calm her down. It reminded him of himself but less strong but still there something that didn’t match up, sensing a slight denial difference taking in her whole appearance as it clicked. She was effected, traumatized by it all.
Luna moved over to let Amelia have some space to breathe, as she never good at calming others down without getting scared or anxious herself. Especially after seeing what she saw and whispered it into Liane’s ear.
Liane gasped and almost screamed hearing her, noticing some things as Luna did more promptly. The subtle shifts and movements that Amelia made, as she glanced at the girls and back at Rick with almost a glare, sensing the same as him, something was going on.
She quickly calmed down, as her glares soften thinking about Skye for a slip second and the whole fact that Fitzsimmons was suspicious of everything, running test on a couple of people like Mack while she was gone. Her focused returned to the trio because as she zoned out, they were talking among themselves.
~~~
Then she heard it.
Liane out of curiosity and excitement yelled, “OH MY GOD SHE IS ONE OF US! Another mutant of some kind?!” Luna gasped looking back at her friend questioning how is it possible but she was interested. Rick was the most confused being a man of espionage and science fiction, he wondered the extent of this difference, if it was something semi-permanent or long lasting. But a part of him was intrigued.
But Amelia was recklessly in denial about all of it. The shock, sorrow and questions didn’t wrap around her head, yet. She was a normal human being, an agent of SHIELD and got examined earlier by Fitzsimmons, her vitals were fine.
Suddenly Cole busted through the door and shouted, “Ah ha! I knew something was suspicious was going on the second she wanted into the room!”
Tumblr media
Rick rolled his eyes and snorted as Luna chuckled. Liane smirked. Meanwhile Amelia raised an eyebrow at her best friend, “Your unbelievable sometimes, you know that?”
Cole just grinned.
Grant Ward x Reader
Summary: Grant has been flying around with Coulson for a few months, he finally gets some time off and spends it with you.
---------------------------------------------------------
It has been three months since you had last seen Grant. A ridiculously long amount of time. All because Grant made the 'team' and you didn't.
Being stuck back at S.H.I.E.L.D. had not been the same without him. Nothing serious was going on. The biggest thing you had done was assist in field training some kids fresh from the academy.
You waited anxiously for Zephyr-1 to land. The plane needed to stop and refuel, it had been refueled many times since it had been in the air, but it never stayed. And you were always gone when it came by.
The plane hovers over the landing pad before finally landing. You had been waiting three excruciating months for this.
The plane opens up and the team walks out. Ready to get the rest of their supplies ready and spend a little time out of the air.
You finally see Grant running towards you and go to meet him. He smiles at you before wrapping his arms around you. You smile and hug him back.
"It's been way to long," you say as the hug breaks and you grab his hand before running away from the plane
"I've missed you sweetheart. It's been three months of nonstop working, I'm so tired," he grunts and you lead him towards the car garage so you can rush home.
"You should be. I read the mission report, stab around to the shoulder," you say.
"I was hoping you had missed that one," he says under his breath and you give him a gentle nudge.
You thank jerry from accounting for having helped you get a parking pass for way closer than usual. The sooner you were back at your apartment, the better.
You approach the car and quickly click the button to unlock your car. You climb in and grant does the same.
He leans his head against the seat and let's out a sigh. You start the car before getting the hell out of there. Any last minute missions were someone else's problem
The drive there is silent. Neither if you breaks the peaceful calm surrounding you both. You hadn't felt this relived in a while. You ignore the bruise on Grant's jawbone along with the small cut on his temple. You do wonder if he got them in the same fight he got stabbed in of a different one.
"We're here," you say upon pulling into the car park for your apartment. Grant smiles at you before exiting the car with you.
You spend the short walk to your apartment with your hands interlocked. You finally reach the door and fidget your key into the lock.
Grant wastes no time in kicking off his shoes and flopping onto the couch. He makes grabby hands for you.
"Love, the bedroom is like eight more feet," you remind and he groans before getting up and walking in there with you.
"Do I finally get a hello kiss?" He teases and you go up to him and kiss his lips. He smiles into the kiss as your lips crash together.
Your lips finally separate and you both flop onto the bed. He quickly wraps his body around yours and you smile. It was nice having Grant back. Very nice.
be the stillness of the moon
An alternate version of my fic, whistling static when the young learn to fly. Rated T.
Read on ao3.
He found her out on the porch, back against one of the cabin walls and one knee tugged to her chest.
Hunch proving true, Coulson snagged a familiar, heavy woolen blanket on his way out and eased the door open, letting it squeak just the slightest bit.
“Hey.”
May was staring off into the distance, the slope of her shoulders letting him know she’d heard and acknowledged his presence. She was still in pajamas, the soft, worn fabric not nearly warm enough for this kind of chill.
Phil made his way over carefully and settled down onto the wooden bench, noisy steps and his shoulders soft and easy. “May.”
“Wanted to see the sky.”
Her voice came out just below a murmur, but Coulson exhaled quietly -- relief and surprise both.
“One of those nights, huh.”
It took a long second, but she nodded. Coulson slouched comfortably, wedged his shoulder against the wooden slats of the cabin. Their cabin.
“How long’ve you been out here?” It was light, but the edge of concern appeared without his permission. It was alright.
May just shook her head.
She’d been off the last few days, snappish or a different sort of silent than usual. He’d kept an eye out but let her be, knowing she would bring whatever it was up if she needed to, and also that sometimes all he could do for her was give her the time and space she needed to deal in her own time, her own ways.
It had been months now, settling into this little cabin and building the kind of peacefulness he’d barely ever dared to imagine; enough time for him to recover his strength somewhat, for that barely perceptible air of tightly wound exhaustion that had surrounded May for years to begin to dissipate. They’d been able to start settling in, building the routines that they both, May especially, needed.
So much of it still felt new. They had thirty years between them, plenty of those spent living in close quarters and through the kind of hard years that taught you the most about a person, but it was still…different, when it was just their four walls; a smaller space, none of the responsibilities that had been a distraction and a stressor and a sanctuary all at once.
He’d gotten to hear May laugh, really laugh, for the first time in so long. He felt more like himself now than he had in years, settled and steady in his own mind and skin. They were still bound to have bad days. Always had, even back when they’d been barely more than kids, only beginning to learn what it would mean to live the life they’d chosen. May was still so used to shouldering everything on her own, and despite contrived appearances to the contrary, Phil actually sucked rather magnificently at the whole talking about it thing. They were working on it, like they were on everything else. It was still hard, sometimes.
“Wanna tell me what’s up?”
“You don’t have to stay,” May said quietly. “I’ll be fine in the morning.”
Okay, not an answer, but not a no, go away either. The fact that she wasn’t claiming to be fine now said…a lot.
“I’d like to, though.”
May blinked at him, genuinely surprised.
“If that’s okay?”
It took another moment, but she nodded. Phil tapped the blanket in his lap, drawing her attention to it, before he lifted it up, gave it a flap and wrapped it carefully around her shoulders. She had too many old injuries to be out in this kind of cold, and the weight would help. “You in pain?”
He saw her hesitate, falter. They’d had the be honest talk a few weeks ago, both of them equally as bad about powering through pain when they no longer needed to. It had taken May literally collapsing on her bad leg after pushing it for weeks for that to happen.
“Some,” May said finally, and Phil breathed out another little bit of worry. “Just stiff. I’ll take care of it later.”
Phil gave the blanket another pointed flick until she bundled herself up more securely, a little of the tension bleeding off her shoulders as she did. They had a few hot water bottles bundled up in one of the kitchen cupboards. He doubted she’d be up for a massage any time soon, but he could go dig those out in a bit, boil some water. As much as he wanted to, he knew better than to suggest going inside just yet.
The stars were bright, this far away from any light pollution. May loved it out here, despite the cold, the endless depth of the sky stretching on and on and on. Phil squinted habitually at his watch (he wasn’t wearing one) and then up at the moon, digging up rusty memories and figuring about three a.m., the angle of the waning crescent.
Pine was sweet in the air. It was still so easy to remember a world cracked apart. Phil swallowed against swelling relief, not for the first time, the reminder of more than he could have ever wished for.
May exhaled softly, letting something go. Phil took the cue and broke the silence, taking a leap.
“You went to see Robin and Polly today?”
May shook her head. “Didn’t go. Drove halfway there and turned around. I called Polly to apologize, made up some excuse, I don’t know.”
Oh. “You didn’t say anything.”
“Couldn’t.”
Phil took a slow breath, making sure he would sound the way he wanted to. “Daisy’s not upset with you, you know.”
There was a long, trembling pause. May’s voice was quiet, when she finally spoke. “She has every right to be. It was stupid of me to yell.”
Their pseudo-daughter (when had it gotten so easy to think of her like that?) was sound asleep in the little room off the hall (officially declared hers whenever she wanted it), here to stay with them the two weeks until Mack called her in to report for her new team’s first official mission. May had come home struggling, hiding it well enough that even he’d missed it at first, and it had been over…nothing, really. Daisy had stared after May’s retreating back with nothing but concern, reading the real reasons for her old mentor’s sudden lashing out in her rigid stride, the harsh lines of her back and shoulders. She knew May so much better than Phil thought either of them realized, these days.
He took another breath, still tempering his tone. “Stupid is the idea that you don’t deserve to be loved.”
May actually startled, turning around to stare at him with a look that tried its hardest to be a glare but fell quite a ways short. “I…what?”
Phil shrugged, keeping the movement gentle and easy despite the ache pulling tight in his chest. “C’mon, May. It’s not like I don’t have some idea of what’s going through your head. But it’s stupid. And I’ll keep saying so ‘til you believe me.”
“This isn’t about…” May closed her eyes with a growl, letting her head thud back against the paneled walls. “I don’t know how to do this, Phil.”
“Do what?”
“Live. Like this. Just be, I don’t know, a person. ”
“May…”
“I don’t know what I’m doing,” May turned to stare at him, implacable. “I’m not the person I want to be, not… I’m working on it, but it’s not worth it if I’m hurting you— if I’m hurting everyone along the way.”
Phil shook his head, bewildered. “Where is this coming from?”
May just shook her head.
“Is this about--”
“It’s not about anything,” May snapped. He just blinked at her. There’d been no real heat in it.
May shook her head and looked away, propping an elbow on her good knee and letting her shoulders slump, palm bracing her forehead. Phil could feel her retreating, slipping farther and farther away.
He sighed and scooted closer before he could think for too long about it, rubbing a hand softly up and down the length of her spine. May wasn’t tense, didn’t flinch. Phil exhaled softly.
“Hey.”
May leaned slowly against him, her head still bowed, and he shifted to better settle her weight against his shoulder, breathing gentle and steady.
“I’m sorry,” she said quietly.
He shook his head, knowing she could feel it. “What’s eating at you?”
It’d been so long that the unspoken things just kind of spoke for themselves. May’s snappishness over the past few days hadn’t been the kind of snappish she got when she was pissed about something -- this sort of scattered lapse in control was the exact opposite of shutting down, of keeping everything contained the way she was wont to do. She was doing her best to let him in now because she was in a place to accept support without depending on it, because grounded and self-reliant when it came to emotional stability had always been May at her happiest.
The kind of trust in the trying had carried them through more hells than he could count. It’d been a constant in his life for so long. He’d never taken it for granted. It still meant the world.
She was on the side of the hand he could feel, and the blanket was soft under his palm as he rubbed careful circles over her back.
“I walked the perimeter,” May muttered at last, muffled. Phil just nodded. He’d noticed the mud earlier, caking her boots.
“Checked all the weapons, the locks, the go-bags. Just sat there taking the gun apart, putting it back together. I haven’t gotten like this since that stupid detail in the Alps, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
“Too stressed,” Phil offered softly. The frustration in May’s scoff came through loud and clear.
“With what. ”
They were opposites, in this respect. He needed time to unwind if he didn’t want to start losing his mind, always had been that way. That was why field command hadn’t bothered him, why Director would have always been a little bit miserable. The weight of it all, he’d learned a long time ago how to carry.
May could handle anything while she was in the middle of it, would take the weight of anything and somehow still manage to stay centered, steady. It was once things slowed down that she’d get wound tighter and tighter, frustration usually the first thing to break the dam. She’d never really thought that was a valid reason to struggle, either. May knew all of it, and still thought she ought to be better than all things that made her human.
“Too much, too soon?”
May scoffed harder.
“What happened today?”
“Nothing. That’s the point.”
Phil just waited.
May straightened a little, after a while, pulling away and scrubbing her hands over her face. She looked away for another long moment.
“Nothing happened. It's just me.” The anger there was a clear mask, now, something heavier underneath. Bitterness?
He stayed quiet long enough to be sure she wasn’t planning to say anything else just yet. “Kiddo loves you, Mel.”
May looked more tired than ever, looking back at him.
“She misses you, wants to spend time with you. There’s no version of that where it’s a bad thing.”
There was another long silence. Phil kept quiet until he felt the air start to unravel, the weight slowly dissipating. May grappled silently with herself, motionless at his side.
He could feel the moment she decided to speak. May didn’t look at him, the words just barely there.
“I see myself hurting her.” Pause. “You. Daisy.”
Phil made a soft sound before he could stop himself. May shook her head in response without looking up.
“I know. I know it’s just… there’s no meaning to it. It’s not… but I…
“There’s nothing to fight here,” May said softly, as close to helpless as she ever let herself sound. “Just…”
“Yourself,” Phil said softly.
May nodded. “And that’s what I wanted. I need that, need to deal with… but I’m no good to be around like this.”
“What if we want to, though?”
May just looked at him, frustrated and desolate. After a split second the look vanished; she was unreadable to him, for a moment, blank.
“May. There’s nothing you could do that would make us-- make me want you far away,” he said quietly, steady, and watched the mask begin to crack. “If you need some air, some time to yourself-- that’s different. But, May, nothing is going to make me want to give up on this. I don’t want anything more than to see you happy.”
He watched her swallow, struggle a second to speak and then decide against it.
“We need you,” he said gently, because he was trying to say, do you understand how much you are loved? and sometimes that was the version of it May understood best. “Me, Daisy. We all do. You are so loved, Melinda, you know that?”
May pressed the heels of her hands hard into her eyes for a second, dropping her hands back into her lap as she lifted her head to stare out at the night.
“I love you,” Phil said, and watched the tears well up, the way May closed her eyes tight. “Melinda, hey. Look at me?”
She did, finally, and he reached out to cup her cheek with the hand he could feel, wiping away the tears trickling down her face. May had been fighting this for so long, but now she just looked at him, unblinking and vulnerable, her hands folded together in her lap.
“You’re gonna be able to hear it without crying,” Phil said quietly. “Even on bad days. It’ll take time, probably, but we have time, okay?”
It hadn’t been a hard thing for her to say, the first time. She’d just waited for the right moment. None of that was a surprise, once he’d gotten his wits back enough to stop gaping in the hall like an idiot. He needed words, sometimes, to understand, so that was what she’d given him.
It was still different when it came to herself. It wasn’t hatred May carried for herself any more, hadn’t been for a while; there’d been a quiet morning and a good hike and in far fewer words she’d told him that much herself. It wasn’t quite peace yet, either, but in so many ways it was forgiveness. He’d watched her fight for it for years, these hard-won inches of kindness, had realized a while ago that that was something he still needed to learn for himself.
May’s strength had never begun or ended at her ability to beat people to a pulp. That had never been the part he was in awe of.
Thing is, strength has never been known to make anything any easier -- not unless you’re moving house with a grand piano. It’s just a promise you’ll make it through.
“It’s okay,” Phil said, steady. It wasn’t so gentle, this time. Melinda needed certainty almost always more than she ever needed gentleness; he’d never entirely gotten over the surprise of realizing that was something he could give her. “You’re not alone, alright? We’re here. We have time.”
They’d lived so many lives, so many years spent choosing the world over theirs. Years of sacrifice, years sacrificed. They were never getting any of that back, but this was still a gift. Nothing had ever felt so much like hope to him as it did to be able to say that so easily -- we have time.
May didn’t say a word, but she leaned forwards to press her forehead into his shoulder, one arm reaching out to hold on tight.
He held her until she stopped shaking, until her breathing settled back to steady.
After a long time, May pulled away, wiping her eyes on her sleeve. Eyes red, she managed to look disgruntled enough that Phil had to bite back a laugh.
“Lighter?” he suggested gently.
May grumbled. “Headache.”
She’d hated to cry since he’d known her. Claimed she had since she was a kid, that it always just left her feeling worse than before, wrung out. He’d said lighter because he could hear it, though, the edge of strain gone from the way she breathed whether or not she’d admit it. He would never manage to explain to her the relief it was, May allowing herself to unravel this far without so much of the old pain behind her eyes, him being able to just hold her without any terror gripping at his chest, so he didn’t try.
They sat there in silence for a few long, slow moments. Once the sense of ease had settled, Phil got to his feet, holding out a hand.
“Stars’ll be there tomorrow,” he said with a little grin, as May blinked up at him. “We need to sleep, Mel.”
May hesitated, but grabbed his hand. She didn’t wobble, as she stood up, but she didn’t quite succeed at hiding a wince, either. They wrapped arms around each other, familiar movements (except now they were just old, not recently injured), and made their way a little creakingly towards the door.
And paused, just inside the threshold.
A lamp was alight. Daisy’s dim outline was at the stove, but they could see her grin as she turned round at them, visibly chewing over potential remarks and discarding most of them.
“Morning,” she landed on, cheekily, and he heard May groan, struggling to extricate herself from her blanket and his steadying arm without the considerable indignity of toppling over.
“Why are you awake.”
“Were we too quiet?” Phil asked, grinning back at their girl.
“Mm-hm.”
May limped over towards the little counter and Daisy moved to meet her, holding out a mug and a hot water bottle. May accepted both.
“I’m sorry,” Phil heard her say, quietly, as he made his way over to sprawl over the couch. Daisy’s answering tone was soft, genuinely warm.
“S’all good, May. I know… but I think I know what you were trying to get at, maybe. We can talk about it later?”
May nodded. Phil smiled a little at the relief bleeding off her shoulders. She couldn’t exactly reciprocate, with both hands full of recently boiled liquid in various forms, but she leaned into it, when Daisy wrapped her in a brief hug. The look that passed between them said more than words ever could. Daisy’s smile was soft, as she pulled away, and that was that.
“AC?”
He grinned up at her as she came over, delivering another mug. Over at the counter, May braced herself against the scrubbed wood and took a sip from her own, looking up with one eyebrow raised.
“Bitter.”
From May, that was the highest compliment a mug (or a maker) of hot cocoa could receive. Daisy grinned over at her.
Phil took a sip in his turn, and wow. “Bitter,” he agreed. He figured he sounded only a little bit dismayed. He caught the pointed look May sent him. Not a little, then.
“Good.”
Daisy edged very obviously away, gathering up a mug of her own. “Uh. Don’t taste mine.”
May eyed her for a second. And lunged.
Daisy yelped, evading; May feinted neatly (Phil recognized the move and grinned) and wound up with two mugs in her hands, Daisy flailing. “May-- ”
They’d figured before that Daisy still couldn’t outclass May when it came down to raw speed, not in this case without quaking either her or the cocoa -- how that was still true given the amount of pain May’s stance said she was in, he didn’t know, but neither of them had spilled a drop. Phil just sighed. May took a sip.
“Daisy --”
“It’s just a little sugar-- ”
“This is not a little --”
“I’m young, my metabolism can handle it--”
“It’s the middle of the night--” May stopped. Glared. “Are you calling me old.”
“Nope!” Daisy said, as brightly as humanly possible. “Never! C’mon, it’s almost morning, mom, it’s like a once a year thing, we’re already up, you need to get warm, c’mon drink yours and gimmie!”
Mom. No one so much as blinked. May might have maybe handed over the mug with less grumbling than she otherwise would have. Maybe. Phil grinned to himself when he saw her scrub at her eyes behind Daisy’s back, just out of the corner of his eye.
“You’re coming on a run with me tomorrow.”
“Sure.” Daisy bundled towards her, herding towards the sofa. “First you need to get off your feet, sit, please, you’re freezing.”
They wound up all bundled up on the sofa together, sipping mugs of cocoa and tangled up in all the blankets in the house. Phil started telling stories, because there was cocoa and why not, dredging up some Daisy had never heard before and that May would have grumbled at, at length, on almost any other day.
Daisy’s ringing laughter filled every corner. The world closed in around them, just for a little while, a little circle of warmth, safety. Family.
May just listened, leaning against him again with Daisy’s head on her shoulder, eyes soft and content.
She was the only one of them who hadn’t gotten any sleep at all, but it was Daisy who dozed off first, her cheek still on May’s shoulder and no tension at all between her brows. May lifted her mug into the coffee table and slipped a pillow beneath her cheek but otherwise wouldn’t move, hands feather-light as they brushed a strand of Daisy’s hair gently out of her eyes. Her eyes were wet again, but she just looked at him, aching and steadfast in the darkness, the gentle light of a waxing moon.
They didn’t say a word. They didn’t have to.
They would all wake up the next morning groaning, lower backs yelling obscenities and Daisy’s neck stiff from being bent at a near-right angle for far too long. For the few hours of darkness remaining, they all slept peacefully.
May awoke with the first rays of sunlight, blinking her eyes open to find her family huddled comfortably around her, upturned faces washed in gold.
They were at peace, safe and warm. All of them bore ghosts in their shadows, stubborn and lingering; some things would still hurt, come morning. Light tumbled shyly through the window, growing in strength until it sprawled, defiant, into every corner of the room.
The day was going to be beautiful. May exhaled, soft and slow.
Hello, so I got another idea and it is going to be super fluff. So this idea is Robbie x Reader, and the reader is coming back from work and she heard a meow coming from a alley and she stared in aww and she thinks that “Robbie wouldn’t mind that I bring this cute kitty at home”. And she brings it and she opens the door and saw Robbie at the couch and he sees her but she is turning away so he wouldn’t see the cat.
As soon as the clock hits 5pm, I’m out of there, practically running out of my office building, taking in as much of the setting sun as I can for the brief moment its rays touch my face.
The bus home is crowded, everyone just trying to get home after a long day at work. Thankfully, I’m only a 15 minute ride away. I quickly hop off at my stop, after shoving my way through the mass of people, and step out onto the sidewalk, turning to walk the 5 or so blocks to my boyfriend Robbie’s place.
I walk past an alley and hear the tiniest, most pathetic meow I’ve ever heard. Backtracking, I look down the alley, not immediately spotting anything. But then I see some trash shift on the floor and I hear another tiny meow come from it. Walking over, I carefully extricate the small kitten from the pile of trash, holding it by the back of it’s neck so it won’t scratch me. It’s all black, bright orange eyes looking up at me and I swear it reminds me of Robbie and his…other side.
“You look like you could use a bath and a nice place to sleep. What do you think? Promise not to scratch me?”
The kitten mews and I hesitate a moment before cradling it in my arms. No wait, her in my arms. And to my surprise, she cuddles into me instantly, her fur still wet from the rain we had a couple hours earlier.
“Come on little Ghost. Let’s get you home,” I coo, as I wrap her in my jacket with me.
I got her clean, watching her jump around in the small amount of water I had in the bathtub as she bats at a rubber ducky I had gotten for Robbie as a joke. Eventually, I get her out and towel her off, raiding the cabinets to find a can of tuna for her. I pop open the can and put some on a plate, setting it down. She starts eating immediately, meowing for more when she finishes. After, she follows me around the house, not wanting to leave my side. I pick her up, cradling her tiny body.
“You wanna stay with us?” She meows and rubs her head on my hand. I chuckle. “Ok, then. You can stay, Ghost. I guess that’s your name now too, since I heard you but didn’t see you.”
Just then, Robbie opens the door, tossing his keys in the basket I’d placed on a small side table as he shakes out his beloved coat, tossing it over the back of the chair and enters the living room, walking towards me with a smile.
“Hey, baby. How was - what’s moving under that blanket?”
I put on my best puppy eyes. “Nothing?” Ghost meows from under the blanket and I look down at it, whispering “Traitor.”
“Is there a cat under there?”
“No? Technically she’s a kitten?”
“Baby-” I move the blanket and Ghost turns her tiny, bright orange eyes up, staring at Robbie, who goes momentarily speechless.
“Ok, she’s cute. But she can’t stay. You’ll bring her to a shelter or something tomorrow, ok?”
“But, Robbie! She’s so small and she loves me!”
“She loves anyone who feeds her.”
“No really. She follows me around. Plus, she reminds me of you.”
“Me?”
“Yeah. Dark outside with a flame in her eyes.”
He’s quiet for a bit. “Still, it’s a cat. She can’t stay. And don’t give me the pouty lip.”
—----
I wake in the morning, patting the bed next to me and finding it empty, not even a trace of warmth from Robbie. I pull on one of his shirts and walk to the living room, a yawn dying on my lips when I take in what’s happening.
Robbie. Asleep on the couch. With little Ghost curled up on his chest, half tucked under a blanket, like he’d tucked her there. She’s purring loudly, only cracking open one eye to look at me before cuddling her head deeper, a soft smile on Robbie’s lips as he continues to doze.
Ghost never does go to a shelter and spends her time at our place or at the shop, chasing any small rodents or bugs that dare enter her domain. And Robbie? He went out that next day and bought nearly the entire pet store, coming home to show me all of the fancy toys and food he’d bought for her.
Her heart is beating fast, she’s afraid it’ll bring unnecessary attention. Her eyes are cold and empty as they stare at the wall in front of her. The agitation isn’t clear on her face, there’s nothing on it, but she fears her emotions will betray her.
Madam B steps in front of her, making her body unconsciously stand taller sos he wouldn’t seem weak or small. “You.” The woman’s face is blurry, but her voice is as clear as ever. “And you.” Her hand points another girl, she can’t be more than fourteen years old. “Fight.”
They move to the set area. The girl is already there, waiting for her, but her legs seem to work in slow motion. As she stops in front of the girl, she notices she doesn’t have a face, at least not one she can recognize. She doesn’t remember the girl anymore. It makes the guilt in her stomach grow.
She gets into position, her hands in front of her face. The girl’s face falters. They all know there’s a clear unfairness in the fight. The girl doesn’t possess any powers, still, she starts the fight. Sloppy.
Usually she doesn’t like to use her powers against her fellow widows, but she knows she isn’t truly in control of them. Madam B likes a show, and if giving her a show is going to bring her into favor, she’ll do it, even if it means to kill the girl in front of her. It’s not like she’ll be her first kill.
Grabbing her arm, she pulls the girl into a headlock. The girl struggles, she knows what’s coming. She has seen this happen before.
Electricity courses through her body, climbing up and around her arms. The girl screams when the shocks hit her. Once she stops struggling, she drops her down. The girl lays on the ground, body twitching as after shocks ravage her body.
She turns to look at Madam B. The woman doesn’t smile, or clap, or show any kind of appreciation for the scene she witnessed. She just gestures for her to go back to her place in line. She knows this is better than any other alternative.
Suddenly her body jolts, disturbing Madam B’s decision making for the next fight. Her sharp gaze lands on her, it makes all the hair on her body stand. Her body feels possessed. She can’t control it.
Wa…up.
Her eyes are wide as she stares at Madam B stomping towards her. She’s shouting something, but she can’t make out the words. Her mouth is all blurry, almost like she doesn’t have one.
Wake up.
She screams when a sharp hit lands on her cheek. It’s throbbing. Her ears are humming, making it impossible to hear anything around her.
Wake up!
Y/N sits up with a gasp. Her hand flies to her heart that is beating in a quick speed. Her breathing is short and fast, getting closer to panic. “Hey.” As a hand lands to her shoulder, Y/N flinches away from it, almost flying off the bed. Her head snaps towards the voice. Daisy. It’s just Daisy. “Sorry, I heard you screaming in your sleep. I wanted to make sure you’re okay.”
Forcing herself to calm down, Y/N clears her throat, giving her some time to get grounded in her surroundings. She’s in the SHIELD base. Red Room can’t hurt her anymore. “I’m fine.” She whispers. Neither of them believe the words coming out of her mouth, but Daisy doesn’t want to step any boundaries.
“Are you sure?”
“Mhm.” Her eyes are strained on the mattress in front of her. They’re cold and empty, just like during the fights. With a shaky hand, she combs her fingers through her slightly sweaty hair.
Hesitation is clear on Daisy’s face when she stands up from the bed. She’s biting her lip, keeping her eyes on Y/N as she makes her way towards the door. She really doesn’t want to leave her alone. Her hand grips the doorknob, staying there for a while.
The only sound in the room is Y/N’s heavy breathing. It’s not as fast anymore, but fear can be heard in it. Daisy pushes the knob down, opening the door. One foot steps into the hallway. The other one gets raised-
“Wait.” Her voice is almost too soft to hear, but Daisy does. Daisy hears her. “Can you stay? Just for a while.”
“Yes.” Closing the door, Daisy climbs back into the bed with Y/N. She pulls the cover over them properly, it having been kicked to the side while Y/N was having her nightmare.
They lay side by side, both looking at the roof. But inch by inch, Y/N moves closer to her, until her head is resting on Daisy’s shoulder. Only then can she close her eyes.
Daisy plays with the ends of Y/N’s hair, while her other hand is wrapped around her. She has a small smile on her face. She thinks Y/N looks so much softer when she’s resting. It doesn’t take long for Y/N’s body to become fully limp as she falls back asleep, exhausted from the memories. But Daisy stays awake for a while longer, just in case. She wants to be there to protect her in case another nightmare occurs. However, soon after, Daisy falls asleep too, Y/N in her arms.
Neither of them mention about this on the next morning, but slowly Y/N starts to seek safety from Daisy’s arms.
Pent-Up Distractions ~Motherly!Melinda May(S6) xFem SHIELD!Agent!Reader
Tumblr media
Set in Season 6, A little Motherly!May Blurb. And a reminder that it’s okay to talk about mental health, sexuality, difficulties, and vulnerabilities.
Mommy… Master List
Requests & Prompt-List
Warnings: fluff, sparring, practice fighting, embarrassment, sexual pent up/tension (on reader side), vulnerability, etc.
Enjoy (:
You hit the mat again with a smack!. You huffed in frustration, rolling over and getting back up to go again.
“You’re distracted.” May bluntly stated.
“No I’m not…” you grumbled.
Within seconds, the woman had you pinned on the ground again. She stared down at you with an ‘I told you so’ smirk plastered on her face.
“Ok fine, I’m distracted, today” you huffed.
At your words, May got off of you and helped you off the mat.
“Channel your distraction. Focus it. Use it to fight better.” The woman instructed.
You nodded, bringing your hands back into sparring position. You swiftly blocked a hit from the seasoned agent, and then managed to almost land a punch of your own. But May easily took advantage of you celebrating a tad bit early, as she grabbed your arm and twisted you to the ground. You winced in pain. May let go once you had hard landed on the mat again.
“I said use it.” The woman curtly reminded you.
You sighed in discontent. You were getting frustrated.
“But how..??” You groaned, smacking your hands against the may for emphasis.
May took a deep breath and stopped to look at you and have this conversation.
“What is distracting you…?” She paused, asking you.
You raked your mind, but you didn’t have to think too hard… Deep down, you knew exactly what was bothering you. You hadn’t had any personal time in days…
“Ummm… I’m not sure…” you anxiously breathed out.
“Think. I think you do.” May spoke.
You gulped and avoided her gaze.
“You thought of something. What was it?” She lightly urged you to open up.
“I… ummm… I haven’t… I think I’m sexually pent up…” you muttered.
“Sorry?” May asked, because you had practically whispered your answer.
“I think I’m… sexually pent up…” you cleared your voice, repeating yourself only louder.
The seasoned agent nodded in recognition of your words. Your face blushed red at your confession. May then began to put up her sparing mits. You looked at the woman in confusion. She came up to you, offering her hand.
“Take the day off. Go have some personal time.” May instructed you, “Work out that tension.”
You nodded, taking her hand and standing up, then going to put away your gear away.
“Thank you, Agent May.” You sincerely told the older agent.
“Anytime Agent L/N.” She responded genuinely.
May then gave you a curt nod, before exiting the training room.
Day Off // Deke Shaw
Deke Shaw x Fem!Reader
Summary: Reader is stressed out with shield agent life, and Deke encourages her to take a day off and discover earth with him.
W/C: 2k
Warnings: Kissing, violence, end of the world, yk just basic stuff.
A/N: Hey guys!! This took much longer to write than anticipated, my apologies I've been insanely busy recently. I've really been wanting to write for Deke though because there is a LACK of fics for him on this app. Anyways, I really hope y'all enjoy, love you guys! ₊˚⊹♡
You and your Shield team had finally arrived back from the future, and you were relieved to say the least.
Being trapped in an unfamiliar place was horrifying, not that you and your team hadn't been through worse.
Just because you were back didn't mean you were in the clear, and discovering Daisy was the one who was going to cause the destruction of planet earth only made things more distressing.
Even though Daisy didn't currently have her powers you could see the fear in her eyes. You were worried for her, and so was the rest of your team. You had all been working tirelessly to stop the end of the world, and as important as it was the exhaustion was beginning to catch up to you.
Right now you were heading down the hall to meet with your team about the ever concerning anomalies that had been appearing in the lighthouse.
As you rounded the corner you felt yourself slam into something...or rather someone.
"You okay darling?" The all too familiar voice mused from above you.
Deke, the boy from the future. With his gray eyes and rugged features, who you had somehow managed to fall for. You knew he felt the same, but between the plethora of near death experiences the two of you hadn't had time to address your feelings.
"Shit! Deke, I'm sorry." You jumped back, examining where you had slammed into him.
Thankfully there was no noticeable damage.
You ran your hands through your hair, letting out a frustrated sigh.
"Hey, it's okay! It barely hurt!" Deke spun around quickly, and did a silly little dance.
"See, I'm in tip top shape." He put on a goofy smile, causing you to give him one in return.
"Where are you off to?" Deke asked, you forgot that the team didn't always include him in their meetings.
"Oh, just, uh, meeting Daisy and everyone,"
"But I honestly just need a break, I'm so tired of running around all the time."
You leaned against the wall, the stress you were under feeling heavier than the weight of the world.
Deke gave you a sympathetic smile and lightly squeezed your hand.
You began to lean into him, and you began to feel as if you were handing him some of the stress you were carrying.
"Hey I have an idea." Deke exclaimed, taking your hands and turning you to face him.
"You should spend the day with me!" He suggested, his face just beaming with excitement.
"Deke...I don't know, they're expecting me-"
"Please! If they ask, just tell them you got sick or something." Deke pleaded, giving you the saddest puppy dog eyes you had ever seen.
You thought for a moment, weighing the pros and cons of your decision. Yes, you would waste the day having fun when you could be helping your teammates. Although, you would be getting a much needed recharge, and with your favorite person at that. And by the way, how could you say no to that face?
"Okay fineee." You gave in.
Deke pumped his fist in the air with excitement, earning a laugh from you.
"Oh my god, you can show me all of the cool earth things I've been wanting to try! Like every flavor of ice cream, and football! You know, since I only got here like a week ago.."
You truly didn't understand why he got on everyone's nerves so much. He was just excited to have a chance at living the life he always dreamed of in the future, and there was honestly something so refreshing about that. Deke didn't take advantage of anything, because he knew what it was like to have nothing.
"Of course, let me get dressed and then we can go. We've gotta be sneaky about it though."
"You've got it babe." Deke replied, shooting your finger guns and a wink. You rolled your eyes and walked off.
Once you got changed out of your casual clothes, and packed a small bag you hurried to meet Deke outside. You were sure to dodge any Shield Agents that were coming your way.
When you arrived at the exit, Deke was already waiting. When He saw you he excitedly pulled out a notebook and flipped to a specific page.
"I made a list of everything I want to do today! I know we might not be able to do it all but i put little stars next to my favorites." Deke pointed to the tiny stars he had drawn next to several items on his, not so short to do list.
"You make me laugh you know that?" You said, snatching the notebook from his hands to look over it.
"Is it too much?"
"No, It's perfect." you looked up to him and gave him a quick peck on the cheek, causing his cheeks to turn a bright pink shade.
"Okay lets go!" You pulled him behind you as you headed toward your car that was parked in the nearby parking garage.
"I think this is my first time in one of these." Deke exclaimed as you drove towards your first destination.
"Well, is it everything you dreamed it would be?"
"Honestly, it's kinda underwhelming."
You let out a laugh, quickly turning to the side to make eye contact with Deke who was also laughing.
"I totally agree."
When you arrived at your first stop, Deke was practically jumping up and down with excitement.
"You brought me to the beach?"
"I noticed that one had two stars next to it." you replied, pointing to the notebook laying on your console.
"I know it's not warm enough to get into the water, but we can at least walk on the sand and put our feet in."
"Are you kidding? This is amazing." Deke reached over into the driver's seat and hugged you tightly.
He quickly jumped out of the car and started racing towards the shore.
"Be careful! It's easy to fall on sand." You called, remembering how you had to get used to the way your feet sunk into the sand when you were a child.
Just as the words escaped your lips Deke fell face first into the sand.
Your heart raced worriedly as you rushed over to see if he was okay.
"Oh my god! I told you to be careful!" You snapped, leaning down to examine Deke who was still laying flat in the sand.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." Deke rolled over, spitting sand out of his mouth.
You reached out your hand and helped him up, rolling your eyes as you did.
"Please watch yourself from now on." You said, refusing to loosen your grip on his hand.
After that care, not that the two of you hadn't gone through worse, you kept Deke close.
Were you really concerned, or were you using it as an excuse? That wasn't a question that needed to be answered.
As the two of you strolled towards the sore, hand in hand, you couldn't help but let your mind wander. Wander back to the unspoken feelings between the two of you. It's not as if nothing physical had ever happened between the two of you, holding hands and cuddling wasn't uncommon and you had even shared a kiss a few times, but nothing was ever really discussed.
Now was your long awaited chance, just the two of you, without impending doom hanging over your heads.
Well for the moment at least.
"Hey Deke..."
"mhm?" Deke stopped and looked up at you, tracing his thumb over your palm as he did.
"You know how I feel about you right?"
"What?"
"Everything that's happened, it's not just nothing. I really like you, just between the end of the world and time traveling I don't think I've remembered to tell you." You said all this without taking your eyes off Deke's.
You loved the way he looked at you, with such adoration.
For once, Deke didn't respond with his words but rather his actions. Without hesitation, he cupped your face and pressed many kisses to your lips, cheeks, and forehead.
He stopped to look at you, a giddy look on his face.
"Wait? So are we like, boyfriend and girlfriend now?" Deke said half jokingly.
"Only if you want to be." You got your answer when Deke kissed you again, this time with much more force. It was unlike any of the other kisses you two had shared, there was a sense of raw emotion behind it that hadn't been there before.
On your walk back to the car you leaned comfortably into Deke, no longer needing to worry about if it was 'too much'.
You began driving to your next activity, something that was a favorite of yours that you hoped he would really enjoy.
You pulled into the parking lot of your favorite dockside diner, and you could already smell the greasy french fries, and sizzling burgers. You watched as couples and groups of teens strolled down the dock, holding ice cream cones from the shop nearby.
Once you and Deke walked inside you found a waiter to get you a seat. You were seated quickly, and ordered drinks.
"So, is this somewhere you come a lot?"
"Yes, this is my favorite restaurant, and you haven't lived if you haven't had greasy American diner food."
Deke looked around at the place, excitedly examining everything. Once it came time to order, Deke couldn't decide between a bacon cheeseburger or chicken and waffles, so you agreed to get both and have half each.
Once your food arrived, you both ate quickly. Deke continuously snatched fries from your plate, stating each time that it was his last one. You ended up having to swat his hand away, claiming the rest of the fries.
Once you were finished you paid the bill and led Deke out to the dock.
You noticed him eyeing the ice cream parlor, so you asked him if he was up for dessert.
He happily agreed and ordered as many flavors of ice cream as they could fit on the cone. You doubted all those flavors would even taste good mixed together but as long as it made Deke happy.
You walked slowly down the dock, ice cream in one hand, and Deke's hand in the other.
At this point in the day the sun was beginning to sink below the clouds, and the temperature had dipped even lower. You realized you had forgotten to bring a jacket, as you had not planned to be out this late.
You began to shiver, and Deke took notice quickly. He pulled off his jacket, the one he wore nearly every day and offered it to you.
"Well won't you be cold?" you protested.
"Nah, temperatures were crazy in space, a little wind doesn't bother me."
You gave him a sympathetic smile and allowed him to wrap the jacket around your shoulders.
You decided to end your day sitting at the end of the dock and watching the sun sink between the clouds. Deke slipped his hand around your waist as the stars began to fade into view.
"It's so beautiful here, there weren't many beautiful things to look at where I used to live."
This filled you with sadness, and reminded you of the suffering Deke experienced his whole life.
"Deke, I'm sorry. You didn't deserve to live a life like that." You whispered softly, nuzzling your nose into his neck.
"Well it may have sucked, but you know what? It led me to you."
You looked up to make eye contact with your boyfriend. He tucked a few loose pieces of hair behind your ears, and kissed you on the forehead.
"And you are more beautiful than all the stars in the sky combined."
