#a turning point but when the sunbae asked to be with the loved one longer he chose the painless way

I cannot shake my thoughts about this and I’ll know I’ll keep this drama close to my heart. The fact that Myung ha’s ‘sunbae’ opened the riff to the world with the question “would you change it for me?” Also the fact that Myung ha’s alternate universe/game world started with the sound of an ocean tells already a lot about it but we won’t know until Episode 8 why. Throughout the series we watched Myung ha doing everything in his power to make Yeo woon happy while he himself couldn’t rely, couldn’t trust, couldn’t open himself up to him. We know the phrase of his ex gf “you don’t know how to love anyone.” left a deep scar in his soul which he carried with to the alternate universe/game. I try to think the system errors which occurred during the game was a way to change Myung ha’s mindset to not make the same mistakes and/or go on with his habitual habits he did in his life before he drowned himself. Also the different tasks was it actually for Myung ha to realize that he’s the one who makes Yeo-woon happy (which he didn’t). He retreated himself from Yeo woon because he couldn’t choose between the most important persons in his life as we saw his grandma died in real life which makes me think if he also knew that because in one sequence in the game/au it asked him if he wants to bring back some memories of Myung ha’s life. Also the last I love you from Yeo woon was the cherry on top to let the system completely crash where he distanced himself from Yeo woon. “I want to spend my remaining time making Yeo woon happy as best as I can. But it seems the more I try, the more unhappy I make Yeo-woon.” Which Myung ha remembers what Yeo-woon said: “whenever I see you, I both feel good and want to cry. I feel so much about every little thing. But I’m not happy at all right now.” Which again I try to think it is about why Myung ha doesn’t rely more on him? Why he doesn’t open himself up to him? A relationship is based off of trust, give and take… etc. but Myung ha goes into this relationship with deep rooted traumas which causes lack of self love. If one loves not itself enough how can they expect to love someone else which what explains Myung ha’s last phrase in the same scene so much. “Why did I think I could make you happy?” It’s as if he doesn’t think that a loner like him could be the one to give him love and happiness. What follows after is that he choses Yeo woon’s happiness even if he’s not his happiness… which again brings me to the beginning where Myung ha thinks “but I prefer lonely supporting characters to happy protagonists.” In this case he’s the lonely supporting character to our happy protagonist Yeo-woon. “But being fated to live that kind of life… is just so unfair.” He knew/knows how cruel life can be so he chose his happiness over everything and got vanished from the game. He realized by now that Yeo-woon is/was more important than he wanted to admit. Yeo-woon is/was a glimpse of happiness in Myung ha’s life. What brings us to the tragic backstory of his life and how he lived. All the obstacles he endured and went through led to his drowning (at this point we saw Yeo-woon’s obstacles in the alternate universe/game at least in my opinion). This is the turning point for Myung ha. “I was hoping if you saw yourself from someone else’s perspective, you would learnt to love yourself. I thought if you learned to love someone, you would be a little happier.” I want to make a reference here to the title itself “Love for Love’s sake” because all the sacrifices he did and cared more for others than himself… but he found happiness. In Yeo-woon. And he chose his own happiness for once. It’s the way he chooses all these things for himself, to open himself up for him, to rely and be cared for. “It would be nice to have someone. Someone who cares by my side. Someone who gives me chances when I fail and feel hopeless. It would be nice to have someone who always gives me love.” Which they found both in each other.

It was a nice late morning. The sun was shining but thankfully, it was blocked out by the dark curtains. It was nice and quiet, only the sounds of your breathing as you slept peacefully. There were no alarm clocks or phone calls-
*BANG BANG BANG*
“Yoongi hyung! You’ve been holding onto her for hours! She needs to come out!” Taehyung was banging on the door. You could hear Jungkook, Jimin, Hoseok and Jin there too.
“Yeah! She needs to work!”
That was a lie. After coming back from performing Geumjae’s surgery yesterday, the boys had insisted you take a break since it was a long, gruelling surgery. But then again, the others would do anything to get the pale man to open the door for them.
“Just keep quiet and they’ll go away soon.” Yoongi grumbled, holding you tighter, totally unaffected by the screams.
“No, we won’t!” Seems that they heard him.
“Come on, I have to get up.” You patted his back. He tucked you into the crook on his neck like a mother holding her child. His cheek pressed against the top of your head as he huffed.
“You don’t have to get up. It’s your day off.” He murmured. You giggled, arm slinging around him in defeat.
“That’s my girl.” He kissed your head.
“That’s it! I don’t hear movement! Either get the keys or Jungkook, kick the door down.” You heard more commotion outside. Everyday was a chaotic day in the Bangtan household.
“Ugh, hang on a sec.” Yoongi got out of bed, ready to give them an earful. But the moment he opened the door, he was mowed down by everyone else as they approached you, who was on the bed. You welcomed them with open arms and they piled on, engulfing you in big hugs and smiles. Yoongi stood there, glaring at you.
“Yah! Get off!” Yoongi shouted.
“Okay.” They willingly slipped off the bed, which was surprising. Until Jungkook scooped you up into his arms, running out of the room. He cackled evilly while you yelped, arms tightened around his neck in fear.
“I’m hom- What...” Namjoon stopped in the doorway when he saw what was going on. You have him a pleading look.
“Kook, let her down now.” Namjoon frowned. As much as you liked to play around and have fun with the boys, sometimes, all you would like is a peaceful morning.
“With all due respect, hyung. If you try to take my baby away from me, I will actually fight you.” Jungkook said.
“Rich coming from the guy who took her from me. Fight him, Joon.” Yoongi snorted from the top of the stairs. Knowing that the boys will actually fight each other (which you do tell them is dumb), you pinched Jungkook’s pressure point, temporarily immobilising him.
“Ah!” He yelped as he let go of you. You fell onto the couch, standing up and straightening Yoongi’s your hoodie. With a sigh, you headed over to Namjoon to properly greet him after his early morning meeting.
“Welcome home.” You grinned.
“Thank you, my love.” He wrapped an arm around you, leaning down to press a kiss to your cheek.
“You’re bleeding!” Your eyes widened when you saw his knuckles. It looked exactly like Jungkook’s knuckles. Namjoon rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. Grabbing his wrist, you brought him to the office.
“Love, I can patch it up. They’re small wounds. You’re supposed to be resting.” Namjoon told you. You shook your head while washing your hands.
“Small wounds that can get infected, Joon. And I don’t need to rest much more, I knocked out like a light with Yoongi last night.” You chuckled, grabbing your first aid kit. You pulled your stool to sit in front of him and began to clean his wounds. The first thing you did was remove some of the dried blood that crusted on the side.
“It’s gonna sting.” You said before putting the antiseptic. He winced slightly, his nose scrunching up.
“You guys never get used to it.” You laughed. Once the wounds were cleaned, you bandaged his knuckles. You placed his hand in yours, inspecting his hand for more injuries.
“You’re lucky you didn’t break anything again.” You lectured.
“Because I have a doctor that takes good care of me.” Namjoon grinned. You shook your head, kissing his cheek.
“Please, I already told you not to overwork them considering they just got better after you broke them. And you always scold the younger ones for not listening to me when you’re no better.” You teased. Namjoon laughed.
“If I have you to take care of me, I will get injured more.” Namjoon hugged your waist. You flicked his forehead.
“I dare you, Kim Namjoon.” You frowned.
“Alright, alright. Namjoon looks good and patched up! Now it’s my turn, I want my morning kiss. Come here.” Jin yanked you away by your waist, dipping you down and showering you in kisses. You burst out laughing, grabbing onto his shirt so you won’t fall back.
“I’m going to get a coffee.” You shuffled away to the kitchen. The maids prepared your usual iced coffee.
“Thank you.” You yawned and sipped before going back out. You sat on the couch and Jimin sat down, bringing your legs up to drape over his lap. When your phone buzzed, you took it out of your pocket to check.
“Ah, I have to go check on Geumjae. He just woke up.” You announced.
“But it’s your day off.” Hoseok said.
“I know. But it’s the day after his surgery so I have to make sure he’s feeling alright and not having any complications, considering it was a major surgery.” You grunted as you stood up. You quickly finished your drink and went to change. Yoongi would be accompanying you, of course, to visit his brother. The other boys decided to tag along... just to not be left out.
“You guys go grab a bite. I shouldn’t be too long.” You sent them a kiss as they dropped you off at the staff entrance.
“We love you.” They said.
“I love you all too.” You smiled and waved as they drove to the public parking. Slipping on your coat, you went to Geumjae’s private ward. He was awake, sitting up slightly and watching the television that was provided.
“Hey, got here as soon as I heard you were awake. Yoongi should be coming up soon, he’s parking the car.” You greeted.
“Hey... Thanks again... for everything. Not just the surgery... but for making me realise my mistake. I’m so glad Yoongi and I are close again. It’s really all thanks to you.” He smiled weakly.
“Don’t mention it. How are you feeling?”
“A little light headed. And sore.” His hand lightly touched his clothed chest where the surgery sutures were underneath.
“That’s normal, considering the effects of the anaesthesia is wearing off. I’ll still put you on IV painkillers for the next day or two, until the wound starts to heal more and cause less pain. Can I check your wound?” You asked. He nodded and you unbuttoned his shirt to check the sutures.
“Looks good. I’ll replace the gauze.” You removed the protecting gauze above the sutures and replaced it with a clean one.
“Good news is we managed to remove the affected tissue. You still have to be on your medications for the next week? We will do a follow up biopsy after just to make sure we have completely eradicated the cancer.” You instructed.
“Okay. Thank you.” He nodded as you buttoned his shirt up.
“Hyung.” Yoongi came in.
“Yoongi.” His brother greeted as you straightened up. You let Yoongi get closer to his brother as you removed your gloves and washed your hands. As they chatted, you checked his charts.
“Take your time, Yoongs. I’ll go find the others.” You smiled. Yoongi nodded, reaching to peck your temple before sitting down to speak with Geumjae. You gave them privacy, exiting the room. You went to the nurse’s station to update Geumjae’s file. Although the surgery was tiring, you learnt a lot and was glad for the experience.
“Mr Min in Room 32 should be in IV fluids until he’s no longer nauseated by the anaesthesia. Then move him to soft foods.” You told the nurse, who nodded her head and keyed in the instructions to the patient’s system profile.
“Thank you!” You smiled and handed the file to her. You went to the vending machine to get a can coffee.
“Hi, are you a doctor here?” Someone appeared.
“Kinda?” You chuckled, pressing the button for your cold coffee. You weren’t gonna tell some stranger the long story about you being a private doctor to singular patient here.
“I’m a new resident. Nice to meet you.” He held his hand out. You gave a small smile, shaking his outstretched hand.
“You’re Dr (y/l/n)’s daughter right?” He asked and you nodded your head.
“I look forward to working with you, sunbae. I know you did the recent lung cancer tissue extraction surgery, it was very knowledgeable and I learnt a lot.” He bowed.
“Thanks... But I don’t actually work here as a mentor so you won’t see me around anymore. The other doctors are just as good, I’m sure of it. Everyone is trained and of professional calibre, you will learn a lot from them as well.” You were starting to get a little awkward by his overly enthusiastic disposition.
“Baby, there you are.” A voice appeared and you saw your 6 other boyfriends there. They did not look pleased.
“You took so long so we came to find you. We had to stop Kook from ordering everything on the cafeteria menu.” Jimin laughed. You shook your head at the maknae, who pouted.
“I’m still a growing boy.” He argued. He wasn’t, actually.
“Who’s this?” Jin raised an eyebrow.
“Uh... He’s a new hoobae that works here.” You explained, realising that you hadn’t even learnt about this resident’s name. But it didn’t matter, you probably weren’t going to see him after this anyway.
“Come, jagi. We should go.” Taehyung grasped your hand, glaring at the now scared boy. You shook your head, knowing exactly what they were doing. Even before you got together, the boys always said you were their partner just to keep other girls away. Vice versa, they branded themselves as your boyfriends to scare other guys away.
“I-I have to go. Bye.” He bowed and scurried off.
“You guys are horrible, you know that?” You folded your arms with a shake of your head. Hoseok grinned, leaning to peck your cheek. You reached over to straighten his blazer.
“Oh, you’re still here.” Yoongi blinked, seeing the group of you there. You nodded your head.
“Are you hungry? We bought you guys sandwiches.” Namjoon lifted the bags up. Instead of sitting there to eat, you ate in the van as Hoseok drove.
“Here.” You gave some to Jungkook.
“But you hardly ate any of it yourself.” He told you. You just shrugged, not really having the appetite to eat anything. Jungkook leaned forward to eat the last bit of the sandwich out of your hand. You would much rather have your coffee instead of the sandwich.
“Shall we have barbecue tonight?” You asked the boys.
“It’s been a while.” They nodded their heads. Hoseok detoured and went to the big supermarket. You split into 3 teams, Jin and Yoongi buying the meat, Hoseok and Namjoon drinks and you with the maknaes for everything else.
“Buy a lot of meat, hyung!” Jungkook shouted to Jin as he placed his hands on your shoulders to push you to the other aisle.
“Hyung wanted coarse salt for his shrimp. This or this?” Jimin held up both the boxes. You looked at both of them before pointing to one. He happily placed it into the cart.
“Shall I make japchae?” You asked them.
“Yes!” Taehyung cheered. You sent a message to Yoongi to pick up some beef for japchae from the counter for you. After that, you picked up some vegetables that would go into japchae. Jimin trailed after you obediently while Taehyung and Jungkook disappeared. Jungkook had reappeared with loads of bags of snacks in his arms.
“Koo! That’s too much.” You chuckled at your now almost full cart, half filled with bags of chips.
“But we need more snacks for our movie nights! And besides, Jin hyung and Taehyung hyung keep eating my snacks. This is so they won’t take mine.” Jungkook pouted.
“Banana milk!” He quickly got distracted by the dairy section and ran off.
“You know, I can see why people don’t believe our line of jobs sometimes and how Jungkook is supposedly our best fighter.” Jimin scoffed.
“Well, take his banana milk and you’ll truly see how well he can fight.” You giggled as you placed some carrots and bell peppers into the cart. Taehyung came with 3 different ssamjang containers.
“Tae, why are you getting so much? We won’t be able to finish them all in one night.” Jimin scolded.
“But these are brands I haven’t tried before! So I wanna see which is the best. Then I’ll know to buy it next time!” Taehyung argued with his best friend. You shook your head and continued, Taehyung loved ssamjang. There’s no arguing in that. Jungkook came back with banana milk and cheese.
“You want cheese rice?” You asked.
“How did you know?!”
“Koo, even if I’ve only been your girlfriend for a short while, I have lived with you longer. You practically breathe cheese rice.” You scoffed, offended. Jungkook bunny grinned, wrapping his arms around you.
“Of course, you know me well.” He peppered kissed all over your cheek. When you were done, you went to meet the others.
“Boys, I may not be specialising in hepatology but that amount of alcohol is definitely not good for you.” You raised an eyebrow at the amount of alcohol that was stacked in Namjoon and Hoseok’s cart. Totally not in a helping way, Taehyung even got a few bottles of his and Seokjin’s favourite plum wine to add in. You laughed.
“We needed to stock the bar anyway. We promise not to drink so much.” Hoseok winked.
“Yoongi hyung and Seokjin hyung are ready. They’ll meet us at the cashier.” Namjoon informed. You nodded your head and you all went to pay.
“A big party?” He joked as he scanned.
“You could say that.” You smiled, waiting to pay with the card that the boys had given you for ‘house’ items like their groceries and meals. But honestly, they just wanted an excuse to give you a card to spend on yourself.
“You’re pretty.” He complimented.
“Oh... Thanks.” You blushed. A sudden clear of the throat made you jump slightly. You turned to see Namjoon and Yoongi with stern looks on their faces.
“Are you done yet, baby girl?” Yoongi emphasised on the pet name, which he never really uses at all. You blinked, still in slight shock. The cashier looked terrified suddenly, quickening his pace to finish scanning all your items. Namjoon wrapped an arm around your waist.
“Love, later let the others load the van alright? Wouldn’t want you hurting yourself.” Namjoon smiled sweetly at you.
“O...kay?”
“Uh, payment please?” He squeaked. Before you could hand the card over, Yoongi plucked it out of your hand and handed it for him to swipe. He gave it back with two hands and a deep bow.
“Let’s go.” Yoongi held your hand and led you away. The boys loaded the car and you were ready to head home. Suddenly, their phones all rang at the same time. Namjoon took his phone out to check the notification. It was quiet for a while.
“Everything okay?” You blinked.
“Yeah... But looks like we’ll have to return to work for a while.” Namjoon sighed. You nodded your head.
“We’ll drop you home. It’ll be safer.” Jin told you. Again, you nodded. You knew how these business meetings could go from bad to worse in only a couple of seconds. Hoseok pulled up to the house and you jumped out.
“Stay safe, boys.” You told the 7. They sent you in with hugs and kisses, waiting for you to disappear into the house with the maids before Taehyung pulled the butler closer to whisper something into his ear. The butler nodded his head, bowing deeply. He closed the door for the van, standing on the porch until the van disappeared.
“Agashi, I was told that there will be barbecue tonight? Shall I prepare the ingredients?” The butler smiled as the other staff brought the groceries in.
“I wanna help cook! Let me change first.” You smiled and went upstairs to the room. You changed out of your hospital clothes and into more comfortable clothes, aka Jimin’s lounge pants and Hoseok’s hoodie.
“Thanks for bringing this all in guys!” You said to them as you saw them clearing all the bags of shopping and keeping everything in its place. You really bought a lot.
“What do you want to make?” The maid asked.
“Taehyung likes marinated kimchi. And Jungkook was saying he wanted cheese rice to go with the meat. I also bought japchae ingredients.” You said.
“Alright.”
“You guys can take a break. Don’t worry, I would like to think I’m better in the kitchen than Namjoon is.” You joked and they all laughed, loving your attitude. The mansion’s staff loved working with you.
“We’ll help where we can.” The cook took the ingredients out for you, laying them out neatly. You started with the marinated kimchi, which was frying kimchi with garlic, spam and minced meat. While the rest of the staff attended to the things in the mansion, the cook stayed by your side in case you needed help.
“I think a bigger dice is okay.” He demonstrated.
“You can put it here to cool. Then I’ll close the container later.” He gave you the plastic container. You scraped the contents from the pan to the container.
“Are there some side dishes that go well with the barbecue? That the boys will like.” You asked him. He went to the fridge to look through what was inside to make side dishes.
“We have a few hours so we can do some pickled radish, spicy cucumbers, the fried anchovies that master Seokjin likes?” He suggested.
“Sounds exciting!” You clapped your hands.
The next few hours were spent cooking and preparing various meals to go with the barbecue for the night. You learnt a lot from the cook and your energy was mostly fuelled with iced coffee (of course). You were just happy to prepare so much food for your boys now that you knew what their tastes were like. There was even time to make grapefruit syrup for Taehyung’s sodas.
“I’ll help prep the shrimp too.” You rolled your sleeves up to prepare for Yoongi’s salt baked shrimp on the grill.
“Ah, agashi. Let me. Your hands may smell. After all, you’ve been cooking the whole day, why don’t you take a break? I insist.” The cook shook his head.
“Oh, alright. I’m only giving in because I need to make Koo’s cheese rice later.” You giggled. The cook nodded and you grabbed a snack before leaving the kitchen. You helped the staff set up the barbecue outside.
“Let me help.” You arranged the chairs.
“It’s okay, agashi. Please rest.” The maids shook their heads. Going to retrieve Kookie, you sat under the gazebo with a book.
“Kookie ah. Don’t do that.” You stroked his head as he began to nibble the corner of your book again. Looks like even without the boys here, you still wouldn’t be able to read in peace.
“Where are they?” You checked your phone, there were no calls or messages from any of the boys. As the sun set, you were seated in your designated seat, which was in between Jungkook and Hoseok. You checked your phone to see the time, it was getting late.
You perked up when you heard the door to the backyard open and footsteps. However, when you turned your head, the smile dropped from your face.

Solhwi prompt:
Sol A tries to set up a date between sol B and joonhwi after his court 'confession' (even though she is lowkey jealous) assuming he was talking about her and confusion ensues... And if you can use the following dialogue-
"Sol, it's you. It has always been you."
love's complicated.
Sol A's not jealous. She really isn't.
But what was this twisting, nerve wracking feeling that she feels every time she sees Sol B?
notes: prompted by @confusedsoulsramblings ! i had so much fun writing this, i had to add a small bonus at the end. i had no intention on making this so long, but i guess it’s my trait to make long fics. spelling, grammar and incorrect information will be taken responsible by me. thank you all for support, once again! let me know of more prompts, questions or your reviews! feedback and criticism very much appreciated! thank you all, once again for the endless love!!
words: 3000 words.
ao3
Sol shouldn't be any less shocked during Yeseul's trial. When Prosecutor Jin cornered Joon Hwi with his question, she turned to look at her roomie at the same time she did. Then, she saw Joon Hwi’s eyes trail nervously, fluttering between them both. Sol knew his answer from the look on his face.
It was never her to begin with.
She wasn't angry. She wasn't upset. She expected it. Sol B was sophisticated, graceful and beautiful. She knew how all the freshmen would nickname her "Ice Princess.". Could anyone disagree? Furthermore, coming from a family of lawyers and prosecutors, who wouldn't love her? She was a dream child. She possessed both the brains and the beauty.
Joon Hwi was always open with his teasing and words. He loved teasing her over their first meeting at the bookstore. He loves visiting Byeol randomly, even when Sol isn't home. He often comments with sentences that could have secondary meanings, and was very much teased by Bokgi. Even though he infuriated her sometimes, she always smiled with him.
Sol felt special, if she was honest. She felt like the only girl that he had his eyes on. She couldn’t help but feel tingly inside and her heart blooming like flowers in spring. Yeseul spent hours convincing Sol that Joon Hwi likes her, and on some nights, she liked to fantasied to the thought of it.
Of course, it means nothing to her now.
Sol sits alone in the study room, huffing out a sigh. She ruffles her hair and buries her face into her sweater sleeves. She can't believe that she can't study due to Joon Hwi liking her roommate. She doesn't like the twisting feeling in her stomach, and she doesn't know what it's called, too.
Was she... jealous?
Sol shakes her head vigorously and slaps her face a couple of times. No, she thinks, and lets out a breathy laugh. She can’t be. As far as her feelings went, she never considered seeing Joon Hwi more than best friends. The chances of him liking her was held at a much higher percentage than her liking him, in Sol’s head.
But thinking back, she couldn’t deny her feelings anymore. She couldn’t bury her feelings any further, especially now that she has accidentally dug them up. Her snarky remarks, the way she acted with him, the burning feelings she felt whenever someone spoke bad of him, her smiles that she would sometimes save for him.
Maybe, she does had feelings for this second round judicial exam passer.
But at the same time, she felt wrong. Her roomie was oh, so obviously in love with Joon Hwi, harbouring such toxic feelings felt wrong. It felt backstabbing and so betraying. She couldn’t be jealous. She can’t be, anymore. She should be happy, for her best friend to fancy such a perfect partner like Sol B.
Even if it meant that her feelings were not returned, she didn't mind.
Because his happiness and smile was enough for her.
-----
Sol did her best to squash those toxic feelings. She reminded herself that her roomie was in love with her best friend, and her best friend felt the same. She avoided every moment she was caught between them and always scooted away when Joon Hwi wanted to sit with her. She gave lame excuses (”I want to sit with Yeseul”, “Yebeom needs to help me with a case”), but her feelings only bubbled up stronger inside.
She witnessed as her cold faced roomie soften in her speech when talking to Joon Hwi, the way her eyes softened when he would explain something to her, the way he gave the exact same smile to her when he witnesses her finally figuring things on her own. Or the eyes that he gives when he devours his ramyeon while Sol eats her extra pickles with equal fervour.
If Sol was being honest and straightforward, she wanted to take out her anger on Joon Hwi. For leading her on to believing that he liked her. For being so flirty with her that even BokGi wanted to join in on the teasing. For playing her into this game, only to leave her hanging and lost and completely blindsided by his feelings.
But no, she couldn’t. She knew it wasn’t his fault. She blamed herself, for letting herself be lead by him. She blamed herself for falling for him, instead of focussing on her studies. She was always more rash and emotional.
It was her decision to fall for his charms, not his.
She can’t bring herself to blame him, knowing that Joon Hwi was always like this. Mumbling with low spirits, she sunk lower into her chair in the empty study room. She purposely didn’t want to tell anyone that she would be studying in the study room, in hopes that she could be alone. Heading back to her dorm was not an option, since her roomie’s presence would made her so guilty.
“Why the long sigh, sunbae?” She freezes at the nickname. Internally, a part of her lights up, recognising the voice, but even more the nickname that was said. As quickly as it came, it dissipated as she finally registered who it was, and her guilt ridden feelings came right back up.
Joon Hwi walked in, with his bag slung over, his signature smirk on his face. Pulling a chair, he scooted it over nearer to Sol. Peering over her book, he leaned closer and grabbed the pen she was holding.
“Ooh, criminal codes. Are you having trouble?” He asks, leaning closer to her.
Sol was so glad he was not looking at her. His body was so near hers, that she could smell the fresh cologne he wore, and the slight musk of sweat from a whole day of work. She couldn’t stay here any longer, while having a knot in her stomach. Leaping from her chair, she gathered her books, nearly scaring Joon Hwi and she quickly packed her things.
“I... I just remembered that I needed to meet Yeseul for something!” She blurts out, before running out the room.
She ran up to where the lecture halls were at, before going back down and escape to a part of their campus garden. She always took the same spot, a hidden corner hidden away by a tree that even Joon Hwi isn’t aware of. She frequented that area many times, when she was still insecure about making friends and found it particularly comforting.
“This is no good, I can’t run off every time I see him.” She mumbles to herself. She knew she was right. She knew Joon Hwi was smart to catch on about her not attending classes as usual with her seat next to him. Even though she still showed up for study group, she knew that he could sense the change in her mood.
She needed a plan, and she needed it ASAP.
-----
A week passed after her awkward encounter. Sol had gotten used to the twisted feeling in her stomach. After a week of debating in her head, she formulated her plan to get her feelings over and done with.
She was going to have her roommate and Joon Hwi date.
Sol had figured that if there’s anything she does best, it’s to disappoint herself. Instead of losing face to her best friend and confessing to him about how she felt, she much rather have her feelings crushed instead. Because she knows that he will probably debate on who to choose and she couldn’t let him be the decision maker. He doesn't need to make such a difficult decision.
Besides, Sol knew her roomie’s situation. With an overbearing and controlling mother, the least she could do to make her happy was to have the man she crushed on. He could at least help her in her studies, benefitting her mother’s dreams of being a judge one day and have him by her side forever.
Sol knew the date was going to go well. Sol B had the hugest crush, Joon Hwi would have might as well admitted to her that he had feelings for her in front of the whole court room. All they were missing were private moments alone, without their textbooks and no mentions of school. Oh, and maybe a few glasses of wine and a fancy restaurant in town.
And so Sol found herself in the study room alone again, thinking about how to tell Joon Hwi about setting up a date between Sol B.
Apparently, fate meant for it to happen now.
Because Joon Hwi strode in, a familiar smile on his face, in his hoodie.
“Stuck again?” Joon Hwi says, nodding to her books on the table. She contemplates going into small talk and saying yes, but pushes her thoughts aside. No, she needed this out of her system.
“Joon Hwi, how would you like to go on a date with Sol B?” She blurts out, literally making her point across. Joon Hwi is stunned for a moment, as he sets his bag on the table, leaning on a chair.
“Well...what makes you think I would enjoy it?” Joon Hwi stutters back, clearly stunned.
“Oh, I mean, well, you know how Sol B likes you, don’t you? And I think it’ll be nice for you to go on a date with her. You know get to know my roomie more.” Sol replies as casually as she can. A part of her hopes he says no, that he rather spends his time doing anything else.
But instead, he just shrugs and nods.
And her heart drops, shattering like glass into a thousand pieces. She maintains her bright smile on her face, and even gives a convincing laugh. Sol sits through the next ten minutes of her telling Joon Hwi when she’s free tomorrow and promising she won’t tell anyone, not even Yeseul.
As best as she can, she excuses herself from him, hoping her voice isn’t shaky when she says “I hope you enjoy your date!” as she walks away. Her steps are shaky and she feels lightheaded. She doesn't notice how her eyes are teary, the same way they get when she cuts onions.
Rushing to the washroom nearest to the garden, she locks herself in a cubicle and takes deep silent breaths. She concentrates on breathing and tries brainwashing herself. Come on, Sol, you can’t be upset for him. You should be happy! Joon Hwi is going on a date! And he’s going with the best girl you know! Why are you upset? She repeatedly chants this in her head, holding in her tears as best she can.
But it unfortunately isn’t enough when she finally cracks, letting the pent up sadness explode from it’s cage, her tears streaming down. She prays the bathroom is empty when she wails and sobs, crumbling to the floor in a heap of tears as she can’t help but get the image of her crush and roommate holding hands and kissing.
For once in her life, she has never felt so hurt, but she couldn’t blame anyone but herself for putting herself in this situation. She landed herself in this ditch, and now she has to deal with the fact that her crush, her best friend, will be dating her roommate.
Composing herself, she wipes her tears dry and washes her splotchy face. She rejects Yeseul’s offer for dinner, resorting to spending her night at the campus garden away in her hiding spot. She’s cold, but it’s nowhere near the numbness she feels in her heart deep down. When it gets too cold at 2am, she sneaks back into campus and goes to the long sofas in front of the Lady of Justice statue.
She sits there staring into space for a long while, before carrying her bag to the, now empty and deserted, study room, where she crouches to the corner of the room. She’s reminded of the moments where he would sit with her so close, their shoulders brushed each other and their fingers always fumbled around for stationary. Everything reminds her of him, and she falls asleep, huddled in a corner, just as the rare rays of sun start to emerge.
She wanted him, but he wasn't hers anymore.
-----
“Sol. Sol, get up.” She hears a familiar voice say. Having slept for less than six hours, she’s groggy and rubs her eyes. Her back hurts from being hunched over, and her joints are sore and stiff. Her vision comes to focus as she comes face to face with Joon Hwi.
“Ah!” She yelps out, startled by his presence and retreats back, only banging her head against the metal cabinets instead. She winces and rubs her head, soothing her pain. Joon Hwi sighs and holds out his hand. She swats his hand away.
“Why are you here?” Sol asks Joon Hwi. Joon Hwi holds a serious expression as he steps back to let Sol stand on her own.
“I take back what I said yesterday.” He says suddenly.
“Huh?”
“I’m not going on a date with Sol B anymore. I don’t want to.” He blurts out. Sol takes a moment to register his words. Immediately, anger floods in. She can’t tell if it’s residual anger from being mad at him for playing her, or anger on behalf of her roommate.
“What? What do you mean? But Sol B likes you so much! You should at least give her a chance!” Sol argues back, making her way to the other side of the table at the same time, dumping her bag there. She’s proper angry now, letting her emotions take charge of her actions. Her eyes are frustrated and her face frowns. Joon Hwi stops her and grabs her wrist, stopping her from moving away from him and pulls her back to the same side of the table that he is.
“I don’t like her. And I don’t think I ever will.” He admits. Sol is breathless, taking in all this new information. But during the court, it was so clear that it was her roommate. She can’t do it, having Joon Hwi so close to her, wanting to be with him, yet getting told that he harbours no feelings for Sol B. The tension she felt was driving her crazy.
“But...” Her speech comes out breathless, almost suffocated out of anger and frustration.
“Sol.” His voice is an octave lower, as he leans towards her, his face closing the distance. “Listen to me.”
“It’s you. It has always been you. From the beginning, it was always you.”
Sol lets out a breath, almost suffocating from the tension.
It...it was her?
All this while...?
“I thought... I thought...” She hates how her voice is so full of breath. She’s leaning against the table, and his hands have shifted from her wrist to the side of the table, trapping her.“I thought you liked her. I thought this entire while, she was the one you liked.”
“Maybe this will make you trust me.”
And he presses his mouth against hers.
Sol’s startled, not used to Joon Hwi being so dominating. But his soft lips against hers distract her. She removes her hands from the table, bringing them up to his hang around his neck. His hands slowly make their way to her waist as they move in sync. When they finally part, Sol’s face is blushed bright red. She feels his hot breath against her face.
“Believe me now, sunbae?”
-----
bonus:
Sol B tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ears when she stops in her tracks to meet Joon Hwi.
“Hey, um, can we talk?” He asks awkwardly. She doesn’t know why she feels so calm, knowing that she should be feeling butterflies for having her crush talk to her. Nodding, they head to a spot until the staircases.
“I don’t know how to put it...” Sol B realises where this conversation is going. In fact, she has been waiting for this day, ever since Yeseul’s court hearing. She knows what he’s going to say before he even says it.
“You don’t like me, you like Sol A, right?” She completes his sentence. Joon Hwi fumbles in his speech and finds ways to defend himself quickly. But Sol B is quick to cut him off.
“It’s okay.” She says, the closest thing to a satisfied face she can make on her face. “I fully support you.”
“You’re... you’re not sad? Or angry?” Joon Hwi is cautious with his questions. Sol gives a slight scoff. If she’s honest, she doesn’t know. She doesn’t know what begin her crush for him, to begin with. She can’t remember if it was the way he answered questions, or the time he helped her put on her glasses. All she knows is that he didn’t like her, and she felt peace with that.
“I’ve seen the way you look at her. Your smile and your eyes are enough to prove it. Besides, that's who you were talking about in court, wasn’t it? You wanted to protect her.” She asks. He nods, eyes unable to meet hers.
When Sol B went to bed the night before, she noticed that her roomie was nowhere. Assuming that she was out studying, she went to bed. But when she woke up the next morning, Sol B found her bed still the same state as last night. It was obvious she didn’t return to the dorm.
“She didn't come back last night.” Sol B says and Joon Hwi’s eyes widen in panic.
“What?”
“Check the study room. She might just be studying there.”
“Okay.” He says and turns around. But he turns around once more before jogging away.
“Thank you, for everything.”
Sol B gives a suppressed smile as she watches Joon Hwi get further and further from him. She tries all she can to find anger, jealousy, sadness, brokenness, denial.
But yet, all she feels is calming peace.

Tumblr media
Jungkook locks his apartment door behind him, jiggling the doorknob afterwards for ‘double security’ as one would usually call it. He grabs his backpack from the floor and places one of the straps on his shoulders and heads on his way. As he passes by two of his neighbors who live in the same floor, he nods at them, adding a brief hum in greeting.
“Hey man!” One of the men, Jikwang (as what Jungkook believes this man’s name was), calls out just before Jungkook reaches the elevator. “There was this hot girl asking about you last night.”
Jungkook raises a brow. He hadn’t really met anyone recently, besides that one cute law student who was looking for a new tenant - and eventually turned out to be your neighbor this whole time. She was cute and all, but she didn’t seem like the type that was ‘hot’ to these types of people.
Jungkook racks his brain for anything, trying to remember the very few number of his one night stands.Surely, none of them would have gotten pregnant with protection on….surely? On top of that, he hadn’t really disclosed his address to a lot of people too, so there was no way someone would be looking for him, all the more a “hot” woman,as these two would claim.
“Did she say what her name was?”
The one beside Jikwang shakes his head, adjusting his beanie. He’d seen this dude a couple of times hanging around, but he never actually got his name.  “Nah bro, I don’t think you’re the commitment type of dude…” he comments, dark eyes looking at Jungkook from his head down to his toe. Who was this guy anyways and who was he to judge whether Jungkook was the type to enter a committed relationship or not?
“She just...looked rich, rich. She had a driver... who helped her come down from a nice Benz.”
Jungkook feels his heart drop to the ground. No way in hell.
“I think her name was Hee something...Junghwa? I dunno man, I’m not good with names. But it sounds similar to that…”
“Was it Junghee?”
“Yeah I think that’s it…” bonnet-dude replies, tapping a finger against his chin as he approaches Jungkook. “You think maybe you can set me up? With you know…”
Jikwang knocks the back of bonnet-man’s head. “I got dibs first, shithead. “If she’s not already yours though,” he adds, delivering a wink aimed at Jungkook. “Her friends will do.”
Jungkook squints his eyes at the duo. “No. She’s my sister. And she doesn’t have any friends.” A chill courses through his spine as he replies, wondering how she managed to find out where he lived, and why would she even reach out? Why now, when she had so many years to do so?
Beanie guy simply laughs at him - if it was even considered laughing, when he was practically splitting his sides with laughter - like the thought of having a sister was hilarious to him. “You’re real funny, man. There is no...way...in hell… that that lady was your sister.”
Ah yes, this man is a health vice personified. Jungkook notes the discoloration of his teeth, the god-awful odor coming from his mouth, and they both reek of alcohol and drugs combined. From a safe distance, Jungkook watches their amusement over the subject that is his sister, thinking about why he even indulged these two in the first place. For all he knows, they might have been shitting on him the whole time.
“Sorry man. I mean...she’s rich and hot… and you?” Jikwang shrugs his shoulders.
‘And he?’ What about him?
What the hell was that supposed to mean?
Jungkook clicks his tongue silently, clearly taking full offense with Jikwang’s statement. Did they just imply he didn’t look rich and hot too? Well, compared to them though, they’ll obviously have way longer to go.
Jungkook blinks before equally returning their level of disbelief. “For real, bro?” These men diss him, won’t believe he has a sister whose aura dwarfs his by a million percent, and now they want him to set up a date with her? He shakes his head. Only crooks like these would say insane shit like this.
If only this wasn’t the cheapest and most convenient apartment he could find to accommodate his daily hustle, Jungkook would have moved out of this crap excuse of an apartment building a long time ago.
“Keep dreaming man.”
“Hey, this is what I get for selling you my bike for a good price?” Jikwang eyes Jungkook, taunting him.
“I owe you nothing. I paid for it ages ago.” Jungkook turns on his heel, leaving the two in the crusty ass corridor of their apartment building. He needs to get a new place. Quickly.
With a sigh, he pulls on his down jacket, keeping himself warm as he walks to the garage.
Tumblr media
‘King Auto’
There’s a certain warmth that envelops Jungkook whenever he sees the garage, a place he’d rather call home than his terrible apartment building. It sits right at the corner of two busy streets, just six blocks away from his apartment.
Funnily enough, it wasn’t him who first found out about the garage but the other way around. Well, technically, the owner did. Lee Dongmin, owner and manager of ‘King Auto’ repairs and restores almost all types of cars and bikes alike, occasionally servicing high-end cars on lucky days.
Dongmin would usually see Jungkook pass by the garage in the morning on his way to the university or his part-time job.Well, being located at a busy street in the city of Seoul, there would normally be a lot of passersby but Dongmin knew these people either worked or lived around the area; Jungkook, however, always lingered when he walks past the garage.
It had come to Dongmin’s knowledge a few months later that Jungkook purposefully used a longer route on his way, walking two extra blocks just so that he could pass by the garage. Dongmin hadn’t initially done anything about it, as he thought Jungkook simply took interest in cars - especially when the shop had its fair share of servicing cars from the western market.
There was this particular day though one summer, that their paths would finally cross. Jungkook’s bike, the same bike he bought from sketchy Jikwang, broke down. Coincidentally just in front of King Auto too. Funnily enough, no one in the garage was familiar with fixing up bikes, but Jungkook simply asked if he could borrow a few tools and he’d fix his bike himself.
Ultimately, Jungkook became part of the King Auto family. He’d spend his spare time in the garage when he’s not busy with his part-time jobs and on occasion, Jungkook gets to keep a tiny commission whenever he helps out with the repairs.
Jungkook goes through the front door greeting the new receptionist, Clark, a good morning before heading straight to the garage. Jungkook spots a familiar shade of blue peeking through the scissor lifts, just by the end row. He practically dashes to the car in excitement, too thrilled to greet his favorite car he had worked on previously.
“My baby!” The boy exclaims as he rests his chin on the Porsche Panamera’s roof. “Kook! Get your hands off that! I just had it cleaned!” gruffs Mansik from the other side of the car, flinging his towel at Jungkook who mumbles a sorry but continues to cradle the car, a little more gently this time.
“If you continue doing that, you know a towel isn’t the only thing Mansik is going to throw at you.” Lee Dongmin’s voice is low, careful that the man he’s referring to won’t hear his words. “I’m glad he hasn’t resorted to tools yet...just a couple of smelly socks and a t-shirt that smells like it hasn’t been washed for months... “
“Fuckers.” True to Jungkook’s foreboding, Mansik does throw a sock ball from out of nowhere, one which barely misses Jungkook’s face. Dongmin simply shakes his head at his workers, who he has considered family at this point, Jungkook included. “I’m just glad none of that fell into my first coffee of the day.” Dongmin observes, drawing himself father from the Porsche and any flying objects later on.
“By the way, the owner is actually here to pick up the car. I may or may not have mentioned your infatuation with it.”
Jungkook almost instantly jumps to his feet, searching for the owner inside the garage, but disappointingly ending up with all the familiar faces at the garage. “Chill, kid. He just grabbed some coffee down the street,” Dongmin mentions as he takes a sip of his own. “Ah, speaking of the devil,” the latter states, nodding his head towards someone behind Jungkook.
“Seokjin-sunbaenim?”
“Oh hey! Wasn’t expecting to see you here...Jungkook, right?”
“Yes sir!” Jungkook’s pupils shake, animatedly looking back and forth between the garage owner and his upper-level resident. “So...you’re the one who owns this Porsche?” Seokjin raises his cup, adding a small nod in Jungkook’s direction. He internalizes his excitement, before confessing his love for Seokjin’s Panamera.
“And so, Dongmin here mentioned. Also said you were the one who fixed her up. Thanks man!”
Dongmin looks at the two of them, eyebrows creased in the middle. “You two know each other?”
“Seokjin-sunbaenim is a senior of mine at Woocheon.” Seemingly shellshocked at the new piece of information, Dongmin turns to Seokjin, “You’re a doctor?” The owner of the Porsche rolls his eyes fondly, “Yes, Dongmin. We can have lives outside the hospital too, you know.”
“Anyways, ‘Mera’s ready to go yeah?”
“Of course. Kook fixed it up just fine.”
“Alright. Got a shift today man? Need a ride to the hospital?”
Jungkook is tempted to give in, but merely fixing Seokjin’s car is enough honor for him and he can’t take advantage of his generosity. “No thank you, sunbae. I’ve already got a ride to work today.” Jungkook points to his bike on the other side of the garage.
Seokjin tuts his disbelief. “You’re kidding me right? In this weather?” The older doctor points outside, then rubs his palm against his down coat. “No way in hell, kid. Get in the car.”
“Really?” Jungkook mumbles, dimple on display as his lips form a thin line. Seokjin makes a hum of approval as he takes off his jacket while Jungkook dashes back to where he’d left his backpack. “He’s a good kid, Jungkook. Can be a bit of a delinquent sometimes, but he’s good. Take care of him, yeah?”
“Huh,” Seokjin smirks, “this handsome face got nothing he can’t handle.” Dongmin rolls his eyes this time, “Seriously doubt we’re the same age honestly.”
Jungkook returns to where the Porsche is parked, and Seokjin gets a spur-of-the-moment idea. The surgical resident throws his keys to Jungkook before settling inside the passenger seat. Jungkook, surprised as ever, simply stands there in surprise. “Well?” Seokjin asks, ducking towards the dashboard so he could take a look at Jungkook, “We’re gonna be late!”

Save the Best for Last
Plot: AU Free. Chocolate. Cake. Three magical words for him, but he’s too late to grab a slice of the newest slice from his favorite cafe. Little did he know that eventually, his patience would pay off.
Rating: G
Characters: Student!Han (Stray Kids) x Reader (any gender), plus mention of ITZY and other Stray Kids members
Notes: This is a sort of sequel to Slice of Happiness. You do not have to read it to understand what is happening in this one shot. The cake mentioned is inspired by a chocolate cake that a restaurant at Disneyland used to offer.
Happy Birthday Han!
                                              -----------------------
“Is it just me, or is the line for that cafe you like longer than usual?”
Han craned his neck and pouted when he saw the line for the local cafe was a few blocks from the entrance. Usually in the morning it was busy, but there was never a line this long.
Seungmin stood on tiptoe and tried to see what was happening. After a few seconds, he decided to run up ahead to ask people what the line was for. He excused himself and made his way across the street, while Han spotted Chaeryeong squeezing through the door with a box in her hands. Lia followed behind her and apologized to the people trying to get in as she squeezed by them to exit the cafe.
Han raised a hand and waved at the girls, who spotted him and quickly jaywalked across the street to say hi. “What’s the line for?”
Chaeryeong carefully opened her box to reveal a tall slice of chocolate cake, placed flat on its side. The sight made Han’s mouth water and the girl quickly shut the lid on the box.
“Sorry Oppa, but I waited in line for this,” Chaeryeong shared. “I was one of the first people to get in line once the Tweet went out.”
“Tweet? What Tweet?” Han demanded.
Lia pulled out her phone, opened the Twitter app, and flipped her screen around to show Han.
A Spot of...
Change is good! Wanna try our brand new Supreme Chocolate Layer Cake free? Starting at 14:30 PM, you can grab one free slice per party to try. First come, first serve until we run out! 12:47 PM
“It’s some freebie,” Seungmin sighed as he rejoined Han. “Man, people do some weird stuff for free food.”
Han dramatically pointed to Chaeryeong’s box and the girl quickly opened it to show Seungmin what the freebie was.
“Oh my God, that thing’s huge!” Seungmin murmured when he saw the large cake slice. “What was that? Like 17 layers?”
“21,” Lia corrected. “The head baker said it’s 21 layers of cake, frosting, and ganache.”
Han’s face twisted into a look of pain and frustration and he threw his hands up. “Why did I have to be in Ethics until 3:30?”
“Maybe you can get in line?” Seungmin told him.
The girls shook their heads and explained that the cafe was already running low on slices by the time they left. “They only made 8 cakes total for the giveaway,” Chaeryeong shared. “When Lia and I were leaving, they were putting out the last two cakes and I’m pretty sure the rest of the line is going to be turned away.”
Seungmin patted Han on the shoulder and told his friend that maybe he could get a cheesecake slice instead. “You love their cheesecake.”
Before Han could agree, he felt his phone buzz in his back pocket and he pulled it out to answer it.
“Hannnie! Dori’s acting dazed and I need someone to watch Soonie and Doongie,” Minho rambled on the other end.
“Hyung I can’t – I have study group with Hyunjin and Felix!” Han protested.
“You guys can study at my place and I’ll buy you food,” Minho offered. “Please?”
Han’s shoulders sagged and Seungmin could tell that the cheesecake situation was going to have to wait. The former reluctantly agreed to ask his study group to change the meeting place to Minho’s apartment and he hung up.
“I’m done for today – you want me to get you a slice?” Seungmin offered.
Han shook his head and muttered that he needed to go call Felix and Hyunjin about the sudden change to the study group location.
                                             -----------------------
“HEY! Get down!” Hyunjin snapped as he tried to get his notebook away from the cat.
Doongie walked closer and Hyunjin fumbled with his notes as the cat walked across the table where Hyunjin’s books were spread out. The cat stretched and stood on top of a heavy textbook for Art History, which made Hyunjin scowl in displeasure.
“Can’t we lock them in hyung’s room?” Hyunjin grumbled as he glared at the cat.
Han shot his friend a look and Felix tried to coax the cat to move off the book. Eventually Doongie moved off of the book and came over for scratches from Felix.
Hyunjin retrieved his textbook and dusted the cover off quickly. “Hannie, why couldn’t we do this at the library? Hyung could have asked someone else to babysit his cats. Kkami wouldn’t do this to me if I was studying at home.”
“He doesn’t want his cats to be left alone,” Han sighed with a shake of his head. He removed and replaced the beanie on his head as he tried to focus on his notes he took for the unit that the group was studying tonight. But his head was filled with the bitter disappointment of missing the free chocolate cake from his favorite cafe and now this disaster of a study group session happening in his friend’s apartment.
Felix looked up from petting Doongie and asked Han if Minho promised them food for watching his cats. The mention of food made Hyunjin perk up and he looked over at Han with a raised brow.
“You forgot to tell us that part,” Hyunjin remarked.
“I’m sorry!” Han groaned. “Minho-hyung said we can order food and he’ll pay for it. We are allowed to use his UberEats account.”
The other two grinned and they began checking their phones for dinner ideas. Han closed his notebook and shook his head in frustration.
Was this day over yet?
                                             -----------------------
After Minho came back, the guys parted ways and began heading back to their respective apartments and dorms. Han chose to walk back, as Minho’s apartment was close to campus and he felt like getting some fresh air.
Once he crossed the street, Han glanced to his right over at A Spot of... Cafe and saw the lights were out, save for one by the door. He slowed down and turned toward the cafe, squinting when he saw someone emerge from the back.
The person came toward the door and he saw it was you, the co-owner and head baker of the cafe. He slowly raised a hand to greet you and you met his eyes from across the street as you pushed the door open.
“Hey stranger,” you greeted him. “You’re out late – classes going okay?”
Han smiled and nodded as he jerked his head in the direction of Minho’s apartment. “Had to do some studying and cat-sitting at the same time today. Chaeryeong showed me that amazing chocolate cake you were giving away – really wish I could have tried it.”
You held the door open to the cafe and asked, “Still have room for dessert? I have one cake left.”
Han’s eyes widened and he shot you a confused look. Either he was tired or he just heard that you had a cake left, despite Chaeryeong saying that you only baked 8.
“But, but I thought you only made 8, or at least that’s what my friend told me.”
You moved so your back was propping the door open and crossed your arms over your chest. “Ah that was kind of a lie,” you admitted. “I had 8 planned, but turns out I had enough ingredients to make one more. It was still cooling when the promotion was happening and I didn’t get a chance to do the decorating and frosting until a half hour before closing. You want a slice? It’s free by the way.”
The young man checked both ways before running across the street to the cafe.
“Sunbae, you had me at chocolate cake.”

fic: sorry to my unknown lover (wip)
He has never considered himself much of a religious man. His upbringing was in a Catholic family, so he went to mass with his family, but he had never found solace in religion like his late adoptive father had. And after he had joined the mafia, there had been too many stains on his soul for him to even consider the supposed blissful salvation of God.
But with Cha-young, he is somehow prepared to repent for all of his sins, if she would just be his heaven and hell.
or, what if vincenzo had been kidnapped by han-seok in ep 19 instead of cha-young?

Calling the monk had not, in hindsight, been his smartest move.
He allows himself to sulk on his couch for approximately two minutes before pushing himself up to pace. She had completely blindsided him with the makeup, and the jewelry, and the shiny straight hair that had swayed as she walked away from him, and now he can not feasibly think about anything else. She had baited and switched him, and he had been helpless to her every move.
There are a million things he needs to do. He needs to call Luca to make sure his dealings with the Lucianos had gone well. He needs to talk to Agent Ahn and Mr. Cho to make sure that the NIS is working with them to keep Han-seok in jail. He needs to pay another visit to Choi Myung-hee, as per Cha-young’s plans.
But right now, he cannot physically bring himself to do anything but think of the fact that Cha-young is currently wearing the earrings that he had bought her.
Madre di Dio, he is royally screwed.
Get a grip on yourself, Cassano.
He inhales, and then lets out a long breath. Time to get to work.
-
There are geraniums for sale in the flower shop down the street from the plaza.
Vincenzo had met up with Mr. Cho to make sure that their plans were set, and as he had been walking back from the rendezvous point, he had seen the flowers, and had wandered into the shop like he was in a trance.
It’s not a secret that Cha-young loves geraniums. She buys a bouquet every few days to keep in the crystal vase in her house(the one with the curled edges), and always complains whenever the store increases the price. He has grown used to listening to her rant about it when she comes to work in the morning, coffee in hand. Now, he stares at the bunches of bright red flowers and wonders exactly how to store flowers.
“Good afternoon! How can I help you?” The cheery store clerk has seen him, and descends upon him like a vulture. Twenty minutes later, holding three bouquets of not only geraniums, but also peonies, and a lily-of-the-valley and baby’s breath combination, he wonders at the persuasive abilities of people in the retail industry, and thinks idly that flower shop owners would make excellent lawyers.
He takes his time walking back to the plaza, where he will surely attract attention by walking through the halls with the enormous bouquets in his arms. He meanders through the streets of Seoul as the night awakens, hungry and powerful in its cover, spreading its inky fingers throughout the dusky sky. The world ebbs and flows around him, underneath the twinkling night sky. On the streets, he is just one more face, one more person, with his own story alongside millions of other stories, millions of other people, millions of other faces.
His own insignificance against the backdrop of the city is, in a way, comforting. Here, Vincenzo has no one to answer to, no one to ask him questions he cannot answer, no one except the vast sky and endless stretch that peek into his soul and pull out the parts of him that he does not know. The colors that he cannot change, the stories that he cannot explain.
Before he knows it, he is staring at the dark office of the firm, wondering where on earth they keep their vases. Hong Yu Chan, the plant lover that he was, must have kept flowers in vases, right?
A phone call to Mr. Nam later, Vincenzo concludes that Hong Yu Chan did not, in fact, keep flower vases in his office.
He spends ten minutes considering whether or not to call Cha-young, and then realizes that he is manufacturing a reason to talk to her. Setting the flowers down on the cool tabletop of the office, he looks up where to buy a flower vase, and then leaves the building feeling extremely foolish but having no idea why.
He buys the vase and begins the walk back to the plaza. He is just about to leave an alleyway when he feels a terrific pain in the back of his head. The vase falls from his suddenly limp fingers and falls to the ground with a crash, and he feels the sharp impact of his knees on the ground.
The last thing he sees before his eyes close is a gray hood, and floppy brown hair.
-
Hong Cha-young slides into the driver’s seat of her car, feeling supremely satisfied at a night well spent.
First she had completely flustered Vincenzo before she had left. Then, she had gone to the reunion and made sure that everyone was jealous of her. To top it all off, there had been excellent alcohol there, and she had taken full advantage of the open bar, and listened to everyone gripe about their jobs, or their kids, or their irritating spouses.
She sets her phone in the built in stand, and pulls out of her parking spot. The night air is warm, so she rolls down the windows and lets the smell of street food waft in. Seoul’s nightlife is vibrant, even more so in the summer, and she smiles at the people milling out on the sidewalks. She spots a noodle stand, and makes a mental note to bring Vincenzo there and buy him the spiciest noodles.
Just as she is pulling into her designated parking spot in Geumga Plaza(it’s still marked Hong Yu Chan), her phone beeps. She smirks to herself. She’s surprised Vincenzo lasted this long without texting her, but it’s sweet that he couldn’t hold off longer. She unplugs her phone, and lets the screen light up.
Joon-woo: 2 new messages
The screen seems to shake before she realizes its her own shaking fingers, and she sets the phone down on the center console, unbuckling herself with fingers that will not stay still. How is it that she still hasn’t changed the contact name? The heart emoji that he had put in after his name on his first day as her hoobae is still there, and she feels a rush of freezing anger at herself, at her weakness. She exhales shakily, and unlocks her phone.
Hi sunbae! Did you miss me? the message reads.
Attached with the text is an image. She downloads it impatiently, morbidly drawn to the screen like a moth to a flame. She knows that she will burn, that she will end up nothing more than ashes on a whispering wind if she does not stop and just think, but Cha-young has a horrible sinking feeling.
The image is of Vincenzo.
The picture has been taken from the ground, and the first thing that she sees is the glass. Thousands of shards of clear glass, stained dark red, on the ground. In the background, slightly blurred, she can see Vincenzo sprawled on the ground, blood matted in his hair.
In between her quickening breaths and blurring eyes, all Cha-young can think of is how much, in the picture, Vincenzo looks like the fallen heroine in one of the tragic operas that Vincenzo had dragged her along to. In the last act, as the music turns frenzied and faster, and then reaches a crescendo, and then falls to nothing more than a single sustained note of a violin, a lone lament to the dead.
The image has a caption.
Night of Broken Glass.

Hello! can you do a request of wonho x reader but wonho as a yandere character + business/co-worker!AU + love at first sight + 35. Thank you!!
Hello Lovely. I am SO fricking sorry it took me that long. I hope you’re not mad at me for making you wait, but I just did my best. Also, I’m sorry that this isn’t a yandere scenario, but while I was writing this I realized I’m not feeling comfortable writing stuff like this. I hope you understand and somehow enjoy this one nonetheless. Thank you for requesting and being so patient with me!♡
And then there was you
➝ genre/warnings: fluffiest fluff
➝ words count: 2000+
➝ summary: You vowed to yourself you’d never ever fall in love with a colleague, but ended up that road anyway. To be honest, you had no idea how this could happen to you, but it did. Hoseok caught your attention when you first saw him and from that day you knew it was impossible to fight it. But still, you tried your best to move on, even though he was flirting with you whenever he could. Being alone with him was pure torture and soon you realized you weren’t strong enough to resist him any longer...
Tumblr media
The paperwork in front of you piled up sky high, while you looked for the documents one of the lawyers needed. He'd sent you to the archive to go through all the files, hoping you'd find the relevant detail in an urgent case that's been missing yet. You tried your best to keep track of it all, but there were way too many papers to look through, and it was already pretty late. You'd worked for over ten hours now, but since this case had the highest priority, you couldn't do anything but keep going, no matter how exhausted and hungry you were.
You sat at the desk, digging yourself through all the papers lying on it, even though you weren't sure if there was anything to be found. Everything just based on vague presumptions and the desperate attempt to save your client's ass at every cost. Well, that'd be a long night.
You had no idea how long you've already been sitting there as the door opened, and someone entered the room, too preoccupied to notice. That's why you flinched as soon as this person spoke up.
"Still working at this hour?"
As you raised your eyes to him, your heart skipped a beat. Lee Hoseok. Your amiable, brilliant, and remarkably gorgeous co-worker. Well, he was a lawyer, so he was more of a boss than a co-worker, but he always acted like the latter. At least when it came to you.
With a sigh, you nodded, trying to overact your tiredness, which was quite overwhelming at this point. There was no need for him to know how fatigued you were by now.
"I have to finish this."
"What are you working on?" he asked, moving towards you.
You tried to suppress a jawn before answering. "The Choi-case," you mumbled.
He frowned, taking a closer look at the files spread across the table. "What are you trying to find? I thought this was already closed."
"It isn't. I need to find something, anything. Even though I have no idea what this could be. All I know is that if I leave the archive with empty hands, we're screwed."
"Let me help you then."
"No, you don't have to -," you mumbled, trying to ignore that your heart was beating faster just by the thought of being alone with him tonight. To be honest, this wouldn't be the first time. You guys met quite often in the archive. At first, you seemed to run into one another occasionally, but by the time you learned, this wasn't that fortuitous.
You remembered the first time you saw him like it was yesterday. There was no way you'd ever forget that day. Hoseok caught your attention within seconds. His pitch-black hair, his broad back, and those beautiful, radiant eyes that looked at you in full curiosity. You remembered how your knees got weak as you tried to imagine what hid under those expensive and fashionable suit he was wearing and that you blushed. Just like you did now.
"You still there?" you heard him ask, making you look at him again. A sly smile laid on his sensual lips, and for a split second, you wondered how they would feel on yours. And how they'd taste.
"Mhm."
He chuckled and already sitting next to you, he took a closer look at one of all those files on the table. You couldn't help but glance at him a little longer, just to admire his beauty, before you dedicated yourself to work again. This was too important to get distracted by your magnificent co-worker slash boss.
So a few more hours passed by, while you both did your best to find anything that would help win this case. You managed to find something, but it hasn't been enough at this point. And if you're honest, it was even harder to focus now that he was here.
Being in the same room with Hoseok always was dangerous, especially if it was the archive. A lot of things happened here. Well, they almost happened, but you always left those situations. Somehow.
Except for one single time, just a few days ago, where you haven't been able to fight it any longer. All this longing and desire that has been between the two of you since day one. For one single moment, you got weak, and he knew exactly how to use your frailty. Before you knew what was happening, he was about to kiss you. You could've sworn you already felt his lips on yours as you suddenly pulled away, realizing what was about to happen.
And then you ran away.
A few days later, Hoseok followed you into one of the many offices in this building, but you just noticed after you placed a file on the table and turned around again. He was standing right behind you, blocking your wait out of this room and situation and confronting you with what had happened.
"Why are you avoiding me?"
"I'm not avoiding you, I just... have too much work to do."
He sighed, running a hand through his soft hair. "That would explain why you're in such a hurry. But I refuse to believe that this is all." Slowly he came a little closer, forcing you to move backward. "It's because of what happened in the archive the other day, isn't it?"
You blushed hard, trying to hide your emotions from him, even though you seemed to fail. Of course, he knew what was going on, but that didn't mean you'd admit it.
"No," you answered hesitantly.
Hoseok just looked at you, and you already felt bad for lying to him. You just wanted to avoid any awkwardness between the two of you, but if you were completely honest, it already has been awkward.
He raised a brow at you, making you exhale. "Okay, maybe I do. I'm sorry."
"What's wrong? It felt like... you wanted it, too. I mean, obviously, I was wrong, but I thought..."
"I'm sorry, Hoseok sunbae. We're working together, and I just think it's best if it stays that way." His eyes grew bigger, and you quickly tried to explain yourself. "It's just that... I vowed to myself that I never would hook up with any of my colleagues. Ever."
"Oh."
Then it was silent, and for a moment, you hated yourself for saying this, but you just have been honest with him and yourself. You never wanted to fall in love with someone you're working with, simply because there would've been gossip about you at some point, and you wanted to avoid that at every cost. Even though you really liked him.
"I'm sorry," you whispered again, leaving him behind as you went back to your place.
After that, you expected it to be even more awkward between you two, but somehow it wasn't. In fact, nothing changed. Okay, Hoseok stopped flirting with you, at least he tried. But besides that, everything was as it was before.
Soon you felt kind of sad about it because it seemed as if he doesn't seem to care. Like, at all. If only you had known.
Hoseok brought you back to reality as he placed a cup of coffee in front of you. You blinked dizzily, trying to smile thankfully. He just nodded before taking a careful sip of the hot liquid inside his mug.
Completely out of the blue, you had an idea that made you jump to your feet. You turned, and soon you disappeared in the depth of the archive just to come back a little later with a big fat box in both hands. It was pretty heavy, and just as you were about to reach the table, you lost balance and stumbled right into Hoseok's arms.
The box dropped to the floor, but you simply couldn't care less. All that matters was that he caught you and held you in his strong arms now. Your heart was beating faster, and for a second, it felt like one of those cliches in all these dramas. Maybe it even was.
"I'm sorry, I -"
"Are you okay?" he asked, interrupting your mumbling. He looked at you in concern, hoping you didn't hurt yourself.
You just nodded as you felt the heat rushing into your cheeks. This beyond embarrassing. "Yeah, I'm good. It's just this stupid box. It was too heavy, I guess."
He frowned but smiled a little. "You just could've asked me, you know?"
Again you nodded, desperately trying to keep cool. But to be this close to him, to actually feel his body on yours was too much. And this time, there was no escape.
He knew you felt the same. He knew you already fell for him just as he did for you. He wanted to respect you and your point of view, but he just couldn't resist any longer.
"I really want to kiss you right now. I know I shouldn't, but somehow that makes me want it even more," he whispered, and you could feel his warm breath on your lips. Your heart was racing at this point, and there was no doubt that there wouldn't be no turning back now. It was too late.
Hoseok waited a little longer, but since you weren't able to react properly, he just did it. The next second you felt his soft lips on yours, and it felt as if time stood still. He was very careful and gentle because he was too afraid to scare you off if he'd make just one wrong move.
Your head was spinning while your heart was almost leaping out of your chest. His tenderness was too much to handle, his lips felt a lot softer than you expected them to be, and they simply tasted like heaven.
He placed his palm on your heated cheek, almost setting your skin on fire while his lips slowly and carefully worked against yours. Your hand moved up to his collar, and your slim fingers clung on to it to avoid losing balance again.
After what seemed to be an eternity, you finally separated from one another to catch your breath. Even though this had been the softest kiss you ever experienced, you were completely out of breath. Probably because your head and emotions were spinning like a rollercoaster.
Hoseok looked at you quite intimidated, seemingly waiting for you to run away again or do anything else that'd hurt him all over again. Of course, he didn't forget what you said the other day, but he was pretty sure he knew what you actually felt. And now he finally was being brave enough to name it.
"You know we're supposed to be together. I knew it the first time I saw you, and you know it, too. I'm sure you do."
Yes, he was right. You felt it, the second you first saw him. And you were sure when you first talked to him. This was destiny. This was love at first sight, just like in all the movies, and you never would've thought this would ever happen to you. But it did.
"I'm sorry if I crossed the line today, but... I just couldn't resist any longer," he said in a low and rasp voice.
Soon his facial expressions changed from lovingly to scared. He was so worried he ruined everything now since you haven't responded in any kind of way. You just still felt like paralyzed.
"Can you say something please? Anything?"
You blinked irritated, trying to wrap your head around everything that had happened just now. What did he just say? You didn't pay that much attention to what he was saying since his lips distracted you way too much.
"Y/N," he exhaled deeply, "please! I can't stand the thought of losing you."
"You didn't. And you won't," you finally said in order to make his tensed muscles relax again. You smiled lovingly, trying to find the right words. There was so much you wanted to say, but you weren't able to form a simple sentence.
Instead, you summon up the courage to softly kiss him again. And that's all that he needed, to wrap his arms around you and pull you flush against him. There was no doubt anymore, and he once more felt that you two were meant to be.

I’m fairly certain I have said this before, but Imma say it once again.
One of the things that sets Flower of Evil apart from other dramas (in addition to exploring a romantic relationship thru the lense of serial killers and shadows of the past) is the way the drama is a culmination of many different stories and characters.
In most kdramas, other than the leads (and sometimes not even the female lead) the remaining cast of characters do not get to be fully fleshed out people. They are often the salad dressing. If you took them out, the story wouldn’t suffer for the lack of them. I mean, even second leads so often are characterized as one-note characters!
Flower of Evil subverts that by having everyone play an important role and fleshing them out as much as possible with the 16-episode format. Nobody here is salad dressing, tho I could do without Baek Hee Seong, but I suppose every garden of paradise has its serpent and in FOE it’s him and Yeom Sang Chul.
The plot is centered around Ji Won and Hyun Soo but so many other characters play a role in helping the story move forward. In short, I really love the focus this drama has on the little things. Stories are often made richer by focusing on the little things and allowing characters, be they lead or supporting, to be whole. My understanding of most of the main players in the plot and their fleshed out character profiles are under the cut. Please note, there will be spoilers!
I’m gonna list them out for clarity:
1. Jeong Mi Sook trying to prevent Hyun Soo from making an irreversible decision and trying to explain his side to Ji Won or even deciding, she’s the one who will break out of her cage. Hee Seong has been terrifying her from the start but she asked him to run, because he wasn’t worth being killed by Hyun Soo. He deserved to pay for his crimes instead.
2. Woo Chul deciding that his superiors need to only know this much and feeling terrified at what the new revelations imply for them, but even after he finds out, his priority is making sure his team members are safe. He may not always purchase coffee for everyone. But when push comes to shove, he’s shows what his priorities actually are. His team 😭
3. Eun Ha recognising the danger she is in and locking the door and only opening when her mom came. Eun Ha being a transparently affectionate child and when Hae Soo sees her photos and meets her, it’s like finding some lost vulnerable part of her self. Nothing like the unconditional acceptance of children that can undo you real quick.
4. The Baeks realising that in their quest to protect their son, they became people they never wanted to be. And that they were blinding themselves from the start. Mi Ja wondering if she’s doing the right thing all throughout, Man Woo losing more and more of his patience as he tries to clean up behind Hee Seong and both of them realizing, once you go down a dark path, it’s very hard to return. And also, that the outcome they were hoping to prevent was inevitable any way.
5. Jae Seob knowing something is off and following it up, and wanting to protect Ji Won at all costs. Also him and Woo Chul having an antagonistic but trustworthy relationship and him also mentoring Ho Joon and stating how people find him difficult to like, but that does not stop him from being himself. Jae Seob is a man committed to uncovering things, no matter how uncomfortable they feel or what secrets they reveal. That jokey personality is a layered over a determined and strongly principled character.
6. Ho Joon handling the more difficult aspects of being a cop by learning to take lives if need be, dealing with the aftermath of a crime scene and keeping his cool in the midst of chaos. I mean, at first he seems like such an innocent and well-meaning character who adores both of his Sunbaes and then as the story moves on, you see theres so much more to him than just being the maknae of the team. Whether it is calming down Ji Won after their fast and furious ride or having the foresight to turns on the camera monitor or even deciding to put out the news that Ji Won is dead, Joo Hwan shows himself as such a capable and conscientious person.
7. Hae Soo trying to amend wrongs and dealing with the guilt of her father’s crimes and realizing that it’s very hard to do things by yourself but also bravery is something that does not always happen in front of everyone, rather it’s that moment of iron clad surety you have when you know exact what you want to do, and to go ahead and do it.
8. Moo Jin making the choice to take off the rose tinted glasses and realizes he needs to see things for what they are. And realizing that you can’t just pick up things from where you left there. You have to realise how you behaved and own up to who you really are. Also, you really got to understand how to communicate with the girl you love, instead of just harping on asking her to ditch her brother, once more! 🙄
9. Hee Seong being a stuttering, scared mess once he realizes that he’s at the mercy of Hyun Soo and showing that under all his swagger and bravado, he’s just a cowardly man who enjoys exercising power over others and uses fear to control them, but cannot handle the heat when it is turned on them. He thinks he’s amazing because he’s so powerful and in charge, but all it is takes is one person to stand up to him and he loses composure so quick.
10. Yeom Sang Chul doing his best to save his own ass, and he’s so over taken by greed that it becomes his very undoing. He really has no redeeming qualities and without henchmen or money, he’s pretty much useless. Fitting that he dies without all the trappings of grandeur around him.
11. Even Park Kyung Choon, he’s so far gone with the desperation of looking for his wife but once he’s subdued, and in the hospital, he’s able to have a proper conversation with Hyun Soo. A remorseful, regretful one.
12. The housekeeper, Park Soon Young, she’s seen so much and she’s been thru so much and the Baeks have helped her, but at the same time, she realises she does not want to be a part of this household where so much evil is being perpetuated. She makes the decision to leave and she draws her own conclusions. Nothing is fed to her.
I mean, I could  go on a bit longer but yeah, I hope I made my point. In conclusion, FOE, you done did good.

chapter 12
"I'll be back. My friends just texted me, they want to play beer pong. They said they won't be starting with me."
You let a smile rest on your lips as Hyoseop stood up while waving his hand. You were feeling a bit disappointed that your time together was cut so soon, but you were more than ecstatic that you had an hour spent with him alone. Of course, he would be leaving you for his friends.
You're just an acquaintance anyway.
"Oh, right." You just nodded approvingly, although he didn't really need to ask. You forced the bitter tone back in your throat, back straightening while your sweet sunbae slowly turned back to you. He looked like he didn't want to go downstairs yet, but he needed to. "Uh...your company was really nice, sunbae." You awkwardly said, gaze casting down your feet.
You really like him.
"I liked your company too, Saejin." Your cheeks flushed at the simple response of your one and only senior crush in this university. Hyoseop rubbed the back of his neck as if he was feeling the same things as you are right now. "I..."
You blinked rapidly as you looked up to him. He was still standing by the table, supposedly on his way down to play beer pong with his friends. Was it sympathy? Or concern? Or maybe, just maybe, he really didn't want to leave?
"It's okay, sunbae. I'd probably go back to my friends as well, and—"
"I want to talk again." He suddenly said, a shy smile forming on his beautiful lips. Your mouth gaped at his statement. "Just like this. I'd love to know you more."
Oh my. Is this happening? Like this is not me dreaming, right? This is real?!
Your lips quivered as you tried forming coherent words, a calm response for this prince. You cannot believe that Ahn Hyoseop, your 3rd year senior crush, just said that he'd love to know you more! He looked away as if he was burned by your intense stare, breaking the ice that formed around you.
"W-Will that be okay?" He asked in a soft voice, his hands creeping down his pockets. He looked so cuddly that you just wanted to hug him at that moment. "I understand if I surprised you, it's just I thought—"
"I'd love to." You quickly answered, a grin plastered on your face making him smile again. He nodded enthusiastically as if you just said that you'd give him a treat for being a good boy. "If it's sunbae, it's more than okay."
"Okay." Hyoseop said while biting his lip, slowly turning his back on you, but not without taking another glance your way. "I'll see you around, Saejin."
—
"Uhm, earth to Saejin?!"
You leaned on the chair as you closed your book, looking up to your best friend who has her hands resting on her hips. She has this annoyed expression, and that is not a good sign.
"Were you listening?" Jiwon asked in disbelief, frowning at your indifferent face. "Of course, you're not. Why did I even ask?"
"You said that your boyfriend was coming back from the States 2 months from now after a year of working there, and you'd be spending the winter break at his hometown." You raised your eyebrows at her, making her shoulders relax a bit. "It's fine. I can manage here, and that's like what, 5 months from now."
"Well, just making sure you'd be here safe until I come back." Jiwon shrugged, her lips pouting as she sat in front of you. You took your cup of milk from the table, and sipped on it while looking down at your closed book. "What's up?"
"Hmm?" You looked up at her as you put your cup down.
"Stop playing dumb. Spill." She crossed her arms over her chest, leaning her back on the dining chair. You sighed defeated, deciding to just tell her what was bugging you these days.
"You know I've been looking forward to my favorite—"
"—pianist, yeah, I know. Why? Have you seen him already? Is he handsome? Do we know him—"
"Stop asking questions, I'm not done yet!" You tsked, rolling your eyes at your best friend's excited squeal.
"Is this finally your love story, baby Jin?" Jiwon giggled as she leaned her body forward with her eyes wide full of anticipation.
"I haven't seen him, okay?!" You just chuckled at her, shaking your head. "I almost saw him yesterday, but I don't think I was ready to know him."
"What? That's bullshit, girl. You've been talking about how his music touched your heart for weeks." Jiwon scowled incredulously, not believing what you just said about not being ready. "How are you not ready?"
"I think if I saw him, my image of that pianist would just vanish." You mumbled as you looked at the ceiling, the thought of a certain someone being your adored musician. "I mean, what if I know him in person and saw how he is, and what I have imagined him to be as a pianist were just..." You closed your eyes. "...different?"
"Then just merge them!" Jiwon exclaimed as if it was the most obvious decision for your conflict. You scoffed. "What? It's that easy! You're the one making it harder."
"Forget it." You said, sitting back up straight as you gulp down the rest of your milk. You stood up with the cup and went to the sink. You silently washed it before walking back to the table, getting your book. "I'd be heading to bed early. Goodnight, Jiwon-ah."
You turned back from her and went to your bedroom. You were about to twist your doorknob open when she spoke from the table. Her words were like a light trying to break through the darkness of an enclosed box.
"He might not be that different from what you felt him to be. After all, a musician plays with his heart and soul to be able to produce such beautiful sounds."
You smiled at her words. It was rare, but Jiwon gives the greatest advice in the most unexpected times.
"Hmm, you have a point." You mumbled under your breath before going inside your room.
—
You sat on your seat quietly, mentally preparing your brain for the 3-hour lecture that will start in 10 minutes. Taking out your notes, you begin to read the past lessons and refresh your memory. Not even on the half of the first page, you noticed that the room got too quiet. It was new to you as this class was never silent.
Great. Thank goodness, silence is here—
"Saejin-ah."
Hearing that familiar voice, you felt your skin crawl in surprise. You slowly looked up and prayed that he wasn't who you thought he was—not. Your frown was apparent as you see him brightly smiling at you by the door. Your classmates were just looking at him as if he was the Messiah that went down to their land, it was seriously bothering.
You furrow your eyebrows at him as if the confusion plastered on your face will ask him what the hell he was doing here. Baekhyun just barged in with his confident strides, eyes gentle as he walked towards your seat, which was in the middle part. You glanced at Irene's group, who were all in one corner and silently murmuring to themselves.
"Morning." Baekhyun greeted as if it was just you and him, just a casual conversation between a loser and a prince. He placed a bar of white chocolate on your desk, which you didn't notice was in his hand earlier. "A little sweetness to keep you awake, bab—"
"What are you doing?" You cut him off with your teeth gritted, eyes kept glancing around you. Those shameless students were watching as if a conversation between two people was a new fucking thing that deserves to be in a museum! "Why are you here?" You kept your voice low as if it will make your words unheard.
"Visiting you? Is that a bad thing?" Baekhyun pouted his lips a bit, hand dropping to your desk to lean forward. You leaned back in reflex, moving your head away from him. "Didn't see you yesterday."
His hair looks so fluffy, argh. Am I being distracted by a mere bulk of cotton?!
"I didn't have afternoon classes." You answered, feeling flustered to have him this close in front of so many people. "Anyway, I don't need sweets—"
"I missed you."
You heard gasps around the room, making Baekhyun glare at them. Suddenly, the students had their own businesses to do and turned their backs on you. Baekhyun looked back at you with a grin on his face as he saw you blushing.
"S-Shut it, Byun. Thank you for the chocolate." You looked away, trying to catch your breath while calming your loud beating heart. "Y-You can go now. The prof will be here in a few."
Baekhyun bit his lip as he stared at your restless eyes, making him chuckle. He wanted to kiss you right now. You're too cute for him to handle. You appear to be so brave, but you're just a softie inside. He knows that.
He leaned back, standing straight as he nodded. He looked around the room again, making his presence a reminder that you were his. That he is behind your back, and no one should mess with you. You looked at the expensive-looking chocolate on your desk, making you guilty of shredding that wrapper—
Who said you'll eat it?! Just give it to Jiwon! You don't need something from this playboy, Saejin!
"Okay, I'll go now." Baekhyun smiled as he saw you frowning at the chocolate he gave you. You look like you were arguing with it or something. "Just eat it, Saejin. Stare at it any longer, it will melt." He chuckled, making you glare at him. "I know something that will go hard when you stare at it longer though. Wanna see?"
"Get out , Baekhyun." You almost cursed him, kicking at his feet. Baekhyun laughed, managing to move away before you could kick him.
"See you later, baby!"
When he finally left the room, you felt like you could breathe again. He's crazy! Why would he make everyone know he was interested in you?! Was he trying to kill you?! You quickly took the bar of chocolate inside your bag as the professor entered the room. Your classmates didn't openly talk about what happened, but you're certain they were spreading the news at this moment.
"That jerk." You whispered as you looked up at the projector.
When the bell rang at exactly 4 o'clock, you picked your things up and headed to the professor for consultation about the upcoming project. Half of the class was already gone, and only some of the students who were discussing stayed.
"Are you sure you want to do it alone? You can pair up with someone or two." Mr. Lee tried to persuade you to have a helping hand on the project, but you knew no one would dare to. You'd been doing most of your requirements alone these past few years, unless it was really mandatory to have a group. "I know you can manage well, but it would be easier, Ms. Lee."
You smiled at his concern as you gently shook your head. "I'll be fine. I can just ask you when it gets hard, sir."
Mr. Lee is a kind professor, whom you can comfortably talk to about things. You appreciate that he always listens, and tells you what to do whenever you drift to the darkness. Most of his students aren't as respectful as you, that's why he likes you as his student.
"Well, I cannot change your mind this time as well, huh?" He sighed with a smile on his face. He grabbed his briefcase, patting your arm as he walked past you. "If that's what makes you feel at ease, do it. I'd be cheering you on as always."
"Thank you, Mr. Lee." You smiled as he waved at you. When he got out, you grabbed your backpack and quickly went out to catch the bus.
You walked briskly at the corridors, receiving weird looks around you. You are getting used to hurrying that you can feel the excitement in your system. You begin to look forward to your work because of the nice people you've met, and the nice environment your work offers.
Will I be able to catch the bus though? It's quarter to 5.
Trying to speed up your walk, you almost ran until you got to the corner—
"Shit." An irritated voice exclaimed as you bumped onto a person. "Don't you have eyes, bitch?"
You looked up with a wince as you saw a tall girl with her straight brown hair in a high ponytail. Her eyebrows were raised as if criticizing you at the moment. You met her eyes, which flashed recognition, and you bowed a bit.
"I'm sorry, I'm in a hurry." You apologized, bowing several times before walking around her. You almost cursed as you just bumped into another person, whom you didn't even notice at first glance. You looked up and saw there were three other girls behind the girl you first bumped into. They were obviously glaring at you as if you just committed a crime.
"Isn't it the favored one?" The first girl smirked, taking a step towards you. The other three surrounded you as if you were a caught animal. "Perfect timing. Let's have a little talk, small one. Take her."
You grunted as your arms were grabbed on both sides, dragging you to somewhere with a lesser crowd.
At that moment, you knew you were not going to be freed easily.

Seventeen Reacting to Someone Flirting with their S/O
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 (final)
Part 2 is finally out! Hopefully I can get the last part out within the next few days. Also each members part may get a little bit shorter each time because collectively I’ve written more than 3k lol.
Kwon Soonyoung
Tumblr media
Soonyoung was the sort of person who wore his emotions on his sleeve, sort of. Maybe he never intends to, but it was always easy to tell when something upset the boy; especially when he goes quiet around you, someone he’s supposed to comfortable with. Thankfully, it was always easy enough to soothe his feelings and in no time, he’d be back to his jovial, bubbly self. Fortunately, his moods only came around once in a while. However, it just so happened, today was one of those ‘once-in-a-while’ moments.
You never really intended to make him jealous really, but the man in front of you just would not give up trying to get your number. After who-knows-how-long, you were close to just snapping at the flirt. It really was no use trying to be nice and polite with clueless people like him. Just as you were about to snap however, your lovely boyfriend came in and dealt a hefty right hook on the guy, leaving you stunned for a moment.
“Can you take a hint and leave my girlfriend alone?!” yelled Soonyoung, his cheeks red in anger. In any other situation, you would think he looked really cute, but you could feel the rage seething from his body.
“Honestly! You keep going on and on and on about her giving you a chance but she said that she has a boyfriend you idiot!” At this point, Soonyoung was fuming. It was the worst case scenario ever, you truly did not ever want this man’s rage directed towards you ever.
“Ho-Soonyoung-ah, leave the guy alone…I’m sure he’s learned his lesson,” you said, tugging at his yellow sweater sleeve, trying to pull the taller male away from the other guy’s body on the floor. Soonyoung wasn’t hitting him sure, but he was shouting angry insults which was drawing a crowd.
Your boyfriend turned towards you, his face still a bright red.
“You’re not defending him, are you?” he asked, mouth agape and in shock. Quickly you shook your head.
“Of course not! It’s just that your shouting is drawing a lot of attention…” you mention, gesturing to the curious crowd of people that had surrounded the three of you. Immediately, your boyfriend flushed pink again.
“A-ah. Whoops…I guess I went too far. Yeah, l-let’s go!” he said, grabbing your wrist and hurrying out of the crowd, pushing through the wall of people as he ran with you trailing behind.
Once you reached a quieter part of town, he finally let go of your hand, allowing you to speak.
“Soonyoung-ah, what was that all about? You don’t normally get this mad,” you said. The taller male sighed, looking down sheepishly.
“Honestly…I was watching from afar. I wasn’t sure if I should intervene, but that guy’s last remark really got to me you know. Something about you deserving a better man and all,” he explained. You sighed, pulling the man into your arms.
“Oh please, Hoshi. You’re the best boyfriend I could ever ask for. There’s no one better than you, okay?” you said with a small smile, in hopes of lifting up his spirits. Sure enough, it worked, and your smiling hamster of a boyfriend was back.
Jeon Wonwoo
Tumblr media
You had just finished work at the cat café and Wonwoo was waiting by the front to pick you up. Although you had told him many times previously that it wasn’t necessary, he continued doing it. You soon got used to it and so did your co-workers. Wonwoo waiting by the front every day at 8pm soon became a normal occurrence and it was clear to everyone, even if you didn’t mention it, that you were both dating. It just so happened today of all days however, that a rather gutsy newbie at work tried to pick you up in front of Wonwoo, completely ignorant of the fact that he was your boyfriend.
“Hey, um, [L/N]-seonbaenim* …Thanks for showing me the ropes today. I was hoping we could head back after work together?” The boy asked. He was just a little younger than you, and honestly, not a bad person from your short experience of working with him for less than six hours. Before you could get a word out though, Wonwoo had gotten off his seat and headed to the counter where you two were.
“I’m sorry, but she’s got a boyfriend,” he said, his sharp gaze targeted at the shorter male. The boy’s eyes widened and his eyes flickered between the two of you.
“O-oh?” he stuttered out. “You have a boyfriend, sunbae? Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked, surprise evident in his voice. You sighed and nodded.
“Yes, I’m sorry Ryujin-ssi. But you were bound to find out sooner or later,” you explained. You could see the frustration and disappointment on the younger boy’s face, but you weren’t sure how to comfort him.
Just then, Wonwoo sighed, “It’s getting late, [Y/N].” He then directed his gaze to the rejected newbie and spoke, “Listen bud, I think it’ll do you well to be more aware of your surroundings next time, and not make moves on someone’s girl in front of her boyfriend.”
Ryujin pouted, looking away in embarrassment. You let out a sigh, moving away a stray hair out of your face before speaking.
“Sorry to let you down, Ryujin-ssi,” you said, before you gathered your belongings and awkwardly came out from behind the counter. Once the two of you were out to nudged Wonwoo gently with your elbow. “What was that? You could have been nicer to him,” you reprimanded. Wonwoo averted his gaze and huffed.
“Sorry, I was growing impatient,” he said. Rolling your eyes, you thanked him anyways. At least he got you out of an uncomfortable situation quickly. You could only hope no other new workers will make the same mistake.
*seonbae-nim: honorific for someone of a senior position/class/have done a job longer than you
Lee Jihoon
Tumblr media
(A/N: This was kinda different as I was running out of situations)
Jihoon was a man of few words, and often times he expressed himself and his feelings better with his music. Although it was a little difficult at times for the two of you to talk about your feelings, you knew you could always look forward to a new composition or a paper slipped under the door with lyrics to a future song, describing his emotions and his love for you. Some may find it sappy, but you thought it was romantic. At the end of the day, you were both fine with it as long as he got his feelings through, and yours to him.
However, the past the few months had been lacking in face-to-face communication time, as he had been away on multiple overseas trips, working with celebrities to produce hit albums. It was when he managed to secure a single day that you remembered exactly why the two of you held frequent communication sessions. Your date together was going smoothly despite the occasional cat calls and men trying to make a move when you were alone. Little did you know how affected Jihoon was, seeing his girlfriend having to turn down or ignore so many scumbags who didn’t know how to read body language.
The two of you were seated in front of his TV in his apartment when he finally spoke up.
“I’m sorry.” The apology came unexpectedly, confusing you.
“Huh? What for?” You ask, turning to face him. The light haired man was looking away, a look of guilt on his face.
“The date…I should have protected you better, but instead I always got there just when you handled everything yourself.”
Your face softened into a smile and reached over to hug your boyfriend. “What? That was it?” you asked, laughing a little. It only made the man blush a little, quietly shifting in your arms.
“Don’t laugh! I really felt upset! I mean, you’re pretty, gorgeous, sweet, everything a perfect partner could be! It was scary, I was wondering if you truly needed me…” he trailed off. Sighing, you sat up, turning your whole body towards him and taking both his hands into yours.
“Jihoon-ie, look at me. You’re VoBo, a genius producer, the sweetest boyfriend I could ever ask for. There’s nothing for you to be afraid of, okay? Also, without you, who can I use as a human pillow whenever we cuddle?” You ask, joking slightly, invoking a light chuckle from your partner.
“Yeah, we all know you’d absolutely suffer without me around as your cuddle bud,” he replied, his gaze softening. “Thanks, I think I have a new song in my mind now. I’m gonna go to my studio first, ‘kay?” he said, quickly standing up before heading to his studio.
A small smile crept on your lips.“Alright!”
Xu Minghao
Tumblr media
Minghao always liked to think he was very trusting of his partner, having absolute faith in her that she won’t cheat or anything like that. A good healthy relationship is based on trust and faith after all. So, it was quite a shock for him, and you as well, when he found himself yelling at some guy for flirting with you. He just couldn’t describe the feeling of anger in his chest when he saw some bastard try to hit on you when you were right next to him. You’re his girlfriend! Why couldn’t he see that? Was the scumbag really that oblivious? Or was he just ignoring Minghao on purpose? Either way, the dancer could care less. The damn bastard was hitting you and making you feel immensely uncomfortable, and that was unforgivable.
He was very close to swinging at the guy when he saw him put a grimy hand on your shoulder, but somehow, you managed to stop him in time.
“M-Myungho, please don’t cause a scene,” you whispered in his ear, your hand wrapped around his arm. Minghao’s eyes softened as he let out an exasperated sigh.
“Right…it’s no use beating sense into such a dumbass anyway,” he said, just loud enough for the other man to hear him.
“Hey! What the hell did you call me you punk?” the man shouted, face flushed red with anger.
“Ahhh, it’s nothing. It’s just the truth, don’t worry. But, next time you try and make a move on my girl, I won’t hesitate to punch you in the face,” the lanky male said, a hint of mock in his voice. You sweat nervously, gosh, you really had to drag your boyfriend away from the stranger before an actual dogfight breaks out.
“Minghao~,” you dragged his name out, meeting your boyfriend’s eyes. “The movie’s gonna start soon,” you said, pouting slightly while tugging on his sleeve. Internally you hoped he got the message, and to your relief he did. The man beside you sighed, combing his fringe back with his free hand before nodding and turning away, leaving an angry and frustrated stranger fuming. While leaving the site, you didn’t notice your boyfriend glance over his back, shooting a piercing glare at the flirt.
Kim Mingyu
Tumblr media
Often times you would say it’s easy to tell when your boyfriend, Mingyu was jealous. He was much like an overgrown puppy to you (and many others). See, Mingyu was the sort of person who thrived on your attention and affection, and when other people took that away from him, it irked him, badly. On occasions like that, the best action to take would be to smother him in hugs and kisses afterwards to get him out of his mood. You needn’t worry about him getting violent either, as most of the time, he would make light threats but you knew he would never actually hurt anyone. Thankfully these occasions were few and far between, but they still did occur on occasion.
Today was one of those rare occasions. See, some guy had come up to the two of you while you were both on a date. At first, he seemed like someone who just need directions to a shop he was supposedly meeting a friend at, but next thing you know, he was suggesting for you to come alone with him to “show him the way”. Of course, Mingyu did not take the man’s advances lightly, hurriedly pulling you back the moment the guy tried to pull you away from your boyfriend. The situation didn’t escalate any further than a few light threats and complaints from both sides, as your boyfriend’s height did most of the scaring-off. However, you were left to deal with the aftermath.
You were both in his apartment, silently eating dinner which he had cooked since he had claimed that the guy “ruined the outdoor atmosphere” and wanted to have some alone time indoors with you instead. Seeing as his place was nearer, you both adjourned there. The food was good, but the silent sulking wasn’t.
“What’s wrong, Gyu?” you asked. Even though he had cooked, he barely touched the food.
“Nothing.”
You raised an eyebrow, “Come on, Mingyu. You know I was just trying to be a nice local. I didn’t expect him to try and drag me,” you explained. Mingyu sighed.
“That’s not it… you could have been hurt. That’s what I’m upset about,” he said. A soft smile crept on your face as you gazed at the taller male lovingly. You then got off your seat, waltzing over behind your boyfriend’s seat and enveloping his bigger form in your smaller one.
“Sorry I worried you. But see! I’m perfectly fine, thanks to you,” you said, planting a kiss on his cheek. Mingyu blushed in response.
“A-alright, I see that! Now let me eat, [Y/N],” he stammered out, quickly shoving a spoonful of rice in his mouth, causing you to chuckle.
“Okay, okay. We’ll talk more about this after we’re done with lunch.”
Later that evening, the two of you spent the rest of the day cuddling on the sofa.

Boyfriend?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Genre: Fluff Pairing: BaekhyunxJackson Word Count: 2.7K Summary: Baekhyun finds himself smitten with GOT7′s lead rapper, Jackson Wang.
Tumblr media
Baekhyun was super excited. After a great few months of promotions, today was the start of their goodbye stages. They only had to do four and then a few months of rest. Though most of the others already had slightly filled schedules for their break, Baekhyun’s was clear for the next week. Which meant he could sleep in for a while, play a little longer on his favorite game League of Legends, and pig out until he had to start exercising again.
It was a vacation he had long envisioned and finally, it was within his grasp.
“What’s the lineup like?” Chanyeol asked as he strolled through the dressing room door.
“Debut stages first.” Suho hummed. “We’re near the end. It's goodbye stages then hot stages and then the end.” He said.
“New debut stages? Anyone good?” Baekhyun asked curiously. For him, it was sometimes hard for him to keep up with all the new rookies, especially if they didn't debut together or have a lot of hype about their debut.
“There is a new JYP group.” Xiumin commented offhandedly.
“A girl group?” Baekhyun asks curiously.
“No, a boy group.”
“Oh.” The snickers that followed the almost disheartened ‘oh’ had Baekhyun huffing. So what if he had been hoping it was a girl group? He was a young man with equally young hormones that just ran rampant in his body. It was only natural that he wanted a girl group right? Of course, it was. But he was still curious about this new boy group from JYP. The company did produce some wonderful talent. “Maybe I’ll go see what this new boy group is about.” he said, making his way to the open dressing room.
“Just don’t be forever.” Suho called after the other. “We can’t be late.” Baekhyun waved his hand back at the leader as he exited the room. He wasn’t sure what the group name was called, but he was sure he could figure it out. He knew most of the groups already there, so names that didn’t sound familiar to him were the ones he was going to. Walking down the slightly busy halls, he bowed to passing idols and staff members while reading names off the signs. He paused as he got to a group he didn’t know and cocked his head.
Got7? Got 7 what? Monkeys? Bananas? Was this the new group? Moving to the right, he peeked his head into the room and watched, counting seven heads of obvious idols in various parts of the room. Some were getting makeup done, others getting their hair fixed or clothes straightened out and a few were just sitting around. One, in particular, was rather appealing, much to Baekhyun’s surprise. He was very good looking and looked nicely built. He wondered if the other had any muscles and he was pretty sure he did. He was probably a rapper. Rappers always looked so good. Like Chanyeol for instance.
Shaking his head, he knocked on the door and bowed as he slipped in. Eyes turned to him and the members that could, bowed back in respect as they greeted each other. “Hello everyone, I'm EXO’s Baekhyun!” He greeted, a wide smile on his face as he got the group greeting first before individual greetings as well. It was pretty sad though because all the names went in one ear and out the other. Except for one.
“I'm the charismatic, main dancer, main vocal, main rapper, main-”
“Please!” BamBam called from the corner, a few of the others laughing.
“Jackson!” He finished and flashed Baekhyun a wide smile. Baekhyun felt his heart stop for a moment at the smile and he just couldn't understand why. Well, he could. He knew why. Jackson was a very good looking man and had a funny personality to complement it. It was rare, or at least to Baekhyun, to meet someone who was silly like him. He could already see this group going far in life and they haven't even officially debuted on stage.
“It's a pleasure to meet you all. I just came around to introduce myself and wish you all good luck on your first stage!”
“Ah! Thank you Sunbae! We’ll work hard to impress you!” Jackson said and bowed to Baekhyun and his body returned the bow automatically. He couldn't wait then, to watch Jackson work hard to impress him.
“Can't wait. I should get going now.” He breathed out and smiled at him before waving. “Bye! I'll be watching!” He called as he back out of the room slowly. Turning, he moved to the left and down the hall. He made it around one of the corners and pressed back against the wall, resting as it felt like his legs were going to give out and his heart was going to explode out of his chest. He's never had such a reaction to an idol before, not even hottest of hot female idols.  Not even Taeyeon. He couldn't understand this. In the short few minutes he met Jackson, his body just went crazy. What was this man doing to him?
Spending a few minutes against the wall, Baekhyun eventually pulled himself away from it when he was sure he could stand on his own and not collapse. He was kind of glad he had gone alone, now afraid of what the others would have said or how they would have teased him if they saw his reaction. Of course, they probably would have thought he was just joking around and honestly he thought this was all a cruel joke that he was playing on himself.  Even though he thought men were good looking and openly looked from time to time and even expressed his admiration,  none of them made him feel like this...made him feel like what he assumed was a “high school girl in love”.
He made his way back to the dressing room and was greeted by Chanyeol and Chen, who asked about the new group, and if there was anyone they would have to compete within rapping or singing skills. Baekhyun assured Chen there probably was and the look on the other’s face was just so priceless, he couldn’t stop the laughter that left his lips. But when it came to Chanyeol, he was sure there was no one who compares to the giant. Chanyeol had a deep voice, and it was raspy. He had his own unique style with rapping too that set him apart from the mainstream rappers, much like how Ravi’s rapping was different. So he was sure there was nothing to worry about. The question was, would Baekhyun still love his rapping like he did now, once he heard the rapping styles of Jackson? That really was the question.
And once again, Baekhyun felt his heart racing and his legs going weak at just the thought of the bubbly male. This was really bad. This was horrible! Why was he still having such a reaction? What did this mean? He could actually take a wild guess and imagine what this really meant, but he didn’t want it to mean what he thought it did. He didn’t want to just admit to himself he was crushing on another man. Not that he thought it was wrong.
….
Okay, he did think it was wrong. But not horrible so. It was just not something he thought he would do himself. He liked women, he knew that for sure. But there was just something about Jackson…
“Earth to Baekhyun. Come in, Baekhyun.” Chanyeol called, his large hand waving in front of Baekhyun’s face. Blinking a few times, Baekhyun shook his head to clear his thoughts as he turned brown eyes up to his best friend.
“What?” he asked.
“You okay? You spaced out there for a moment.” Chanyeol said and Baekhyun cleared his throat.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry. Anyway, I think I’m going to go watch these new rookies perform.” Baekhyun said and Chanyeol’s head bobbed. “Wanna come?” he asked.
“Yeah! I wanna check them out.” Chanyeol said and headed for the door.
“Don’t be late though!” Suho’s voice called out and Baekhyun sighed, rolling his eyes. It’s not like they would be late. If anything they would be extremely early, sitting backstage waiting for their slotted time performance. Baekhyun followed Chanyeol out and together they headed for the backstage area, bowing to every one that passed by. Reaching the back, they slipped to the curtains and grinned.
“Is that them?” Chanyeol asked, pointing to the group that was getting in their spots. Baekhyun peered out and nodded his head.
“Yeah, that’s them.” Baekhyun said and smiled. His eyes moved from each member before landing on Jackson. The other had changed out of the clothes he had seen him in earlier. He was wearing his stage clothes, which to Baekhyun, was indecent. Baekhyun wasn’t a person who liked a lot of muscles. He was okay with six-packs and working out the arms and such, but overly muscle guys he just couldn’t stand to look at. Jackson’s arms were just the right amount muscle that they had Baekhyun shivering at the sight. He could tell the other worked out and it actually gave Baekhyun the urge to want to work out as well.
The lights rose as the music started and Baekhyun’s eyes moved between all the members as they danced and sang. Chanyeol’s body was moving next to him, bouncing to the beat and he had to admit, it was a great beat and the lyrics were actually damn catchy. Baekhyun was already a fan, but when the acrobatics started and the rapping, Baekhyun felt himself swooning, especially when he watched Jackson move. This was honestly getting out of hand. Baekhyun was not ready to admit it, but there was no denying that he had to be at least 50% gay because the want he was feeling for Jackson at the moment was so strong.
“Did you see that?” Chanyeol asked over the music, a wide smile on his face. Baekhyun nodded his head, unable to really voice his agreement because he was sure he would say something extremely stupid if he did. The performance was amazing and Baekhyun was just honestly at a loss for words. When the music ended and the lights dimmed, he felt his arm being grabbed and he was tugged back from the curtains and off to the side so the group could come back.
“Sunbae!” Youngjae was the first to spot Baekhyun and bowed to him, the others following. After a quick introduction of who Chanyeol was, Baekhyun was struck speechless as the males all chatted happily about their first stage.
“Did you watch Baekhyun sunbae? I performed extra hard for you.” Jackson said with a grin and if Baekhyun wasn't actually doubting his sanity, he would have sworn that Jackson even winked at him.
“A-Ah I did!” He said, stumbling over his words with a chuckle. “You guys did great! I was so impressed with all the acrobatics!”
“You like them? Mark and I specialize in martial arts and we love incorporating those moves in our choreography.” Jackson said.
“Speak for yourself.” Mark muttered from the corner, though he was smiling.
“Ah, well we should get back, Suho hyung is gonna have a fit if we don't.” Baekhyun said with a bow, Chanyeol following.
“Let's walk back together.” BamBam suggested, already moving to Chanyeol’s side to discuss different rap techniques, or at least that's what Baekhyun assumed.  Letting his feet carry him, Baekhyun started following the group when he felt a hand grab his, stopping him in his tracks. He turned and looked down at the hand holding his before looking back up at the culprit.
“Baekhyun, do you think we could go somewhere to talk for a moment.” The intense stare of Jackson left Baekhyun in such a daze he didn't really register the fact the other had dropped the honorifics. Jackson wanted to talk to him? Alone? Baekhyun could feel his heart starting to pound again and it took him a moment to swallow the lump that suddenly developed in his throat.
“Sure. Ah, I'm sure there are some empty dressing rooms on the next floor up.” He suggested. Jackson nodded and motioned for Baekhyun to lead the way. It took the vocalist a moment to calm himself enough to turn and take the lead to the stairs. With each step up, Baekhyun felt his knees grow weaker and weaker until the point he was sure he wouldn't be able to hold himself up anymore. And just like he thought, his knees gave out under him three steps from the top.
Strong arms wrapped around his waist, catching him before he could fall onto the hard surface and possibly slide down a few of the stairs, injuring himself in the process. Baekhyun stared up at Jackson with wide eyes as the other leaned over him, his weight fully supported by those hard muscles. “Jackson.” Baekhyun whispered softly.
“I already have you falling for me?” Jackson teased, but behind the teasing tone, there was meaning. The words weren't just to tease him but seemed to actually be a true question and Baekhyun found himself nodding his head quickly. “Well, I guess here is as good as place as any.” Jackson hummed lightly. He carefully helped Baekhyun up the last few steps and got him on steady ground, which Baekhyun was grateful for because he wasn't sure he would have been able to do it himself.
“What is it that you wanted to talk about?” He asked after fiddling with his clothes, making sure they were straight. There was silence between them for a moment before Jackson cleared his throat and moved closer.
“I know you feel it.” Jackson said, which caused Baekhyun’s head to snap up. “I can see it in your eyes.” he said gently, hand reaching out to take Baekhyun’s. “And I just wanted to let you know that...I feel it too.”
Baekhyun swallowed thickly and licked his suddenly very dry lips. “Feel it too?” he asked and nodded his head slowly. “I...um...fuck.” he breathed out and let out a nervous laugh. “What can I possibly say? I just met you. I shouldn’t have these weird feelings.” he said.
“Weird?” Jackson asked and cocked his head and Baekhyun nodded quickly.
“I’m not gay.” Jackson’s face fell and Baekhyun felt horrible. Oh so horrible. “But I feel something for you. Like...I guess it means I’m gay. I feel it here.” he said, his hand moving to touch the spot over his heart. “And here.” he said, hand sliding down to his stomach. The butterflies that were just flapping around were ever so present and it made him feel sick and also nervous.
Jackson smiled and stepped closer to him, pulling Baekhyun against him. There was no distance between them, at all. Jackson stared down into his hyung’s eyes, his smile so bright. “Don’t worry. I feel it too. Hyung, I want something with you. It’s crazy because we did just meet. But I can’t deny what I feel and what my heart is telling me I want.”
“I can’t either. I’ve never been one to deny myself.” Baekhyun whispered with a blush. He stared into Jackson’s eyes for a long moment before nodding. “Let’s create something between us.” With a nod, Jackson bent down, stealing a quick kiss from Baekhyun as the sound of footsteps echoed through the empty hall. They pulled away and parted just in time as Chen came running up the stairs, eyeing the two.
“Uh, it’s time for line up.” Chen said and looked Jackson over with a smirk. “Can you tear yourself away from your boyfriend long enough to go perform?”
“He’s not my boyfriend!” Baekhyun gasped out and smacked Chen, who snorted with laughter and waved him off.
“Right sure.” Chen rolled his eyes and bowed to Jackson before heading back down the stairs.
“Yet.” Jackson added and Baekhyun looked at him confused. “Not your boyfriend yet.” Baekhyun grinned and nodded his head.
“Not yet. One day. Anyway, see you around Jackson.” Baekhyun said and waved. Jackson nodded, eyes watching as Baekhyun headed down the stairs, a snicker leaving him as Baekhyun tripped slightly over his own feet and getting flustered.
“Oh my god! What did you do to me?!” Baekhyun called out. Jackson was possibly going to kill him and Baekhyun was strangely alright with that.

“Hello?” the voice was unmistakably Taeyeon’s. And Jungsoo also realized that he had no idea what to say.

A few days after the incident of his panic attack and that fleeting intimacy that he had shared with Taeyeon, Jungsoo quietly finished the recording that he’d been having trouble with. Sitting on the bed in his dorm room, he stared at his phone, considering. He had Taeyeon’s number, had gotten it on their first meeting in the studio, but whether or not he wanted to call it was another matter entirely. He wanted to apologize for acting the way he did with her before their argument in the meeting room, not being the type of person to try to shunt blame when it was his, but he hesitated. Even if he did call, would she pick up? He didn’t feel like she wouldn’t, but it also wouldn’t surprise him if she didn’t. After the unpleasantness that had passed between them, it wouldn’t be unusual for her to not want to talk to him. She might have been extending a helping hand during his panic attack in the studio, but aside from that, Jungsoo didn’t doubt that she probably wasn’t too keen on meeting him.
He picked his phone up off the nightstand and stared at it for what must have been another good five minutes. Eventually, though, he screwed up enough nerve to pull up his contacts, scroll, and press the call button underneath her name, without thinking about what he was doing. If he thought about it, he wasn’t sure he would have managed to do that, he reflected, as he listened to the phone ringing.
There was a click. Jungsoo nearly dropped his phone. He didn’t realize he had been so tense.
“Hello?” the voice was unmistakably Taeyeon’s. And Jungsoo also realized that he had no idea what to say.
“Hello.” He cleared his throat to buy himself time, wincing at how painfully awkward he sounded. “…It’s Jungsoo.” The words sounded even stupider out loud than they had in his head. To avoid curling inwards from embarrassment, he pushed on, not letting the wave of chagrin to overwhelm him.
“I was wondering if we could meet sometime tomorrow.” At least he’d managed to get the words out.
“What about?” As usual, she was concise, but there was no hint of opposition or even confusion in her tone, which he was grateful for. She sounded willing.
“I want to… talk.” He very nearly stumbled over his words, fumbling, feeling self-conscious. Usually Jungsoo wasn’t particularly shy, but this situation was entirely outside of what he’d experienced before. He couldn’t even find a way to describe their relationship, if there even was one between them. Colleagues, in all technicality, but colleagues didn’t have sneering arguments with each other, nor did they huddle together on a sofa, arms around each other, while one of them was breaking down in the midst of a panic attack.
“Alright. What time?”
Jungsoo blinked. Her quick acceptance caught him slightly off guard, having expected at least some sort of skepticism after everything. She must know that this likely wasn’t a professional matter, or there would be no reason to have to meet face-to-face to discuss it, and after their spat, he didn’t expect that she was keen on meeting him again outside of work, especially not one-on-one.
“Sunbaenim?”
Jungsoo blinked again, “Oh – I’m sorry. Does two work for you?”
There was a pause on the other end, like she was thinking. “Can you make that three?”
“Yes, that’s fine.” Jungsoo paused. He supposed this was nothing unexpected; Taeyeon was a busy woman, after all. From all he’d heard about her she was constantly working. And considering that he wasn’t exactly the epitome of leisure either, it was a relief that their schedules had matching times at all.
“I can come that way. What place is good for you?”
Jungsoo named a café he frequented, where the staff knew him and made sure he and Taeyeon would get sufficient isolation. “There’s a section in the back that will give us some privacy.”
She readily agreed. “Okay then. I’ll see you tomorrow, sunbaenim. Take care.”
She hung up, leaving Jungsoo feeling uncertain. He lowered the phone from his ear to his lap, staring at the device, deep in thought. She was unhesitant to agree to meet him, even after the derision with which she’d looked at him during their argument and her less-than-eager behavior when he was around. Maybe she had decided to ignore her dislike for him? After all, if there was anything he’d come to appreciate about her despite their rocky relationship, it was how professional she was.
The next day, he sat in the café, nerves eating at him. It was 3:04, and there was no sign of Taeyeon. While just ditching without a word didn’t seem like something she’d do (she would never have become so close with Heechul of all people if it was), he felt anxious, nonetheless. But then the door of the café opened and Taeyeon, cap pulled down low and mask pulled up high to shield her face, came in, her steps brisk. Her gaze swept the café once before she located him in his secluded corner and made her way over. As she joined him in the nook partially hidden from the rest of the place, she took off the cap, high ponytail falling around her shoulder blades. She was wearing a black cropped-shirt jacket, a black shirt that hugged her snugly, blue skinny jeans, and black-and-white sneakers. Her hair was dyed pale white-blonde, which, coupled with her pale complexion, made her look almost ethereal.
Jarred by the odd feeling that could only be described as her beauty had leaping at him and giving him a backhand across the face, Jungsoo suddenly found it slightly difficult to inhale. Of course he knew that she had always been objectively attractive, but suddenly, she seemed stunning. Was it just him, or did her eyes seem particularly bright in the afternoon sunlight?
Fuck, he thought, panicked, suspecting what was going on but not wanting to accept it. Fuck, fuck, fuck. Why now, and why her, of all times and people?
“I’m sorry.” Taeyeon sounded slightly winded as she settled into the seat next to him, ensuring that both of their backs were turned towards the rest of the café so it would be more difficult for people to recognize them. “I’m usually on time, but my meeting went on longer than I expected.”
Her shoulder brushed against his, and Jungsoo’s senses seemed to flare, grasping at every little millisecond of contact before Taeyeon settled and their shoulders were no longer touching. The “it’s okay” he let out sounded muted to his own ears.
Saehyul, one of the café’s employees whom Jungsoo was familiar with, came over. “Hi there, hyung,” he greeted before his gaze flicked to Taeyeon and his eyes widened, clearly recognizing her. “Son Taeyeon?”
Taeyeon nodded, flashing Saehyul a brisk smile. He stared at her for a few moments before visibly pulling his composure back together, although Jungsoo didn’t miss the curious glance that he sent his way.
“The regular, I’m guessing, hyung?” Saehyul asked. Jungsoo nodded.
“I’ll have the iced caramel macchiato, please,” Taeyeon said, her voice low to avoid attracting any attention. Saehyul jotted it down onto his notebook and, with one more slightly incredulous look at Taeyeon, left.
“So what is it you wanted to talk about?” Taeyeon asked. Jungsoo took a deep breath, trying to recover his thoughts after his shock. Right. What he wanted to talk about.
“I wanted to apologize,” he said, deciding to just get straight to the point. “For the way I acted with you at first. I was…” He wasn’t sure how to describe what he had been, although none of the possibilities were pleasant. Pretentious? Out of line? Prejudiced? Impolite? He settled for the last one, mainly because it felt like the most accurate. “…rude.” Brilliant, Jungsoo. You sound so amazingly eloquent.
Taeyeon turned her head slightly to look at him, eyebrows arched in an expression of mild surprise. Jungsoo met her gaze, and again, it startled him how her eyes seemed to gleam in the sunlight streaming through the window. The observation that they were an unusual color – light hazel, so pale that they could even be mistaken for green or grey – seemed to punch him in the gut, leaving him breathless for the second time. He couldn’t help noticing how long her eyelashes were, even though she was wearing no makeup.
Even when she looked away, Jungsoo couldn’t take his eyes from her face. His gaze trailed from her eyes to the delicate arch of her nose to her lips, pressed slightly together as if she was in the middle of a serious contemplation.
It was only when Taeyeon spoke up that he blinked, returning to his senses and mentally scolding himself for staring. “I didn’t think you’d apologize,” she admitted. “No, I didn’t think you’d even consider apologizing. I thought you were the same.”
“The same?”
“The same as those people I compared you to, when we fought,” she elaborated. “I can’t imagine them admitting that they’re wrong to judge others based off of speculative articles. I can’t imagine them admitting that they’re wrong for being so hateful about people they don’t know.” She paused, a vaguely displeased expression settling over her delicate features. “Maybe it’s close-minded of me, but I have a lot of disdain for people like that.”
Oh. That explained it. Which meant she’d had a lot of disdain for him. The fact that she had been able to act so naturally like nothing was out of the ordinary between them, then, was even more noteworthy. She’s good at hiding her feelings, Jungsoo realized with a start, even though in hindsight it was something he should have realized since a while ago.
“But I was wrong about that. You’re not the same as them.” She glanced over at him, her lips curling upward in what could be taken as a smile. “I’m glad you’re not, and I forgive you. I’ve been a sincere fan of Super Junior since your debut, sunbaenim.”
Jungsoo didn’t know what to say to that. The idea of her being a fan of Super Junior was peculiar to stomach. She was such an omnipotent presence in the industry and in South Korea in general, not to mention someone whom he and many of the other members had been fans of, that the concept of such a person being a fan of Super Junior was difficult to wrap his mind around. Of course he knew his group was, and he thanked God every day for it, successful, just like Pandora was – but it was still strange.
“Thank you,” he said, awkwardly. If Taeyeon noticed his fumbling – which he was sure that she did – she gave no sign.
“I’m sorry too,” she said. She seemed nowhere near as ungainly about their interaction as he was. Or was she just better at hiding it? “I was rude back then as well.”
“That’s okay.” Jungsoo couldn’t find it in himself to be angry at her for that. If he was in her place, he would have been thoroughly pissed off, too.
“Heechul-oppa talks about you a lot,” Taeyeon said, sudden. Although surprised at the abrupt shift of their conversation, the topic of his friend made Jungsoo feel a little bit more at ease; at least now, they had someone to talk about and something in common in their friendship with Heechul. Maybe that was her intention in mentioning his friend.
“All good things?” he joked, still a bit awkwardly. But Taeyeon laughed. It was an unrestrained sound, short but genuine and mirthful. More than that, her laugh made him feel ridiculously happy to hear, and even more so to know that she had laughed because of him. I need to get it together.
“Lots of complaints,” she retorted, and they laughed, this time together. Jungsoo could practically hear Heechul making fun of him and whining about their dissimilar personalities, their countless disagreements, to Taeyeon. It sounded just like him. He could tell his friend and Pandora’s leader really were close.
“But he said good things, too.” Taeyeon continued. “That you’re necessary for Super Junior to keep going. That you work tirelessly for all the members. That no one else could be leader but you.”
Jungsoo looked away, Heechul’s compliments making him feel both embarrassed and slightly emotional at the same time. For a moment, the dilemma of this unwieldy situation was forgotten. He and Heechul had too many differences to count, but…
“That sounds like Heechul,” he managed to say.
The sympathetic look Taeyeon gave him made him feel uncomfortable and at ease all at once. Because that sympathy was so understanding, like she knew very well where he was coming from even without him elaborating on it. The feeling of someone else, someone whom he barely knew anything about personally, comprehending him like that was both unsettling and comforting.
Jungsoo stared at the wall, unsure of what to do (a feeling that he was quickly getting tired of). There was a different kind of tension between himself and Taeyeon now. No longer people who disliked each other, they were now two people who were stuck in some strange relationship that he was certain there was no word for. Jungsoo wasn’t blind; even he couldn’t deny that he was very clearly, very obviously, and so very suddenly attracted to her, which made things even more difficult. Not to mention – she was ten years younger than him. The realization that he felt attraction for such a young woman was jarring.
Next to him, Taeyeon drew back. Not physically, but Jungsoo could feel her emotionally drawing away, disengaging herself from the clumsy interaction between them. It wasn’t unfriendly or anything negative; she was just as if she was extracting herself from their conversation.
And he didn’t want her to. Awkward as they were, he somehow wanted to keep talking to her.
But before he could find anything to say, Saehyul came back holding a tray with two coffees. One was Jungsoo’s usual order; the other was Taeyeon’s iced caramel macchiato. Not noticing the tense atmosphere, he placed the coffees down in front of the respective people and smiled. “Enjoy.”
Jungsoo gripped his coffee and took a sip, grateful for the distraction. Taeyeon was slower, more relaxed, but she did generally the same. The silence between them grew slightly more comfortable, at least that’s what it felt like to him. Was there even any awkwardness here? Or was he just stupidly overthinking by himself, especially now that he knew he was attracted to her? Jungsoo fought the urge to groan, the entire situation embarrassing him.
“Loosen up a little.” There was a teasing note in Taeyeon’s voice that made Jungsoo forget how clumsy and unwieldy he felt. She was peering at him playfully, still holding the coffee close to her face so the straw hovered near her lips. “I’m not that unbearable, am I?”
Despite himself, Jungsoo laughed, and Taeyeon smiled. Embarrassingly, she must have noticed how tense he was – but he was thankful that she could easily make it into a joke. He was thankful that she was easygoing and humorous. It was suddenly easy to understand why the other members had liked her so much, so fast.
From then, the silence they fell into was a bit more comfortable. They each sipped their coffee quietly, sitting side-by-side. Jungsoo realized that he was enjoying the calm. When he was with his members things always became chaotic, which was fun but could be tiring, and when he was alone he felt lonely from time to time. Taeyeon wasn’t like either. She was quiet, gave him space and time to loosen up, but at the same time, her presence was definite. He could tell she was there with him. It was a new feeling, he decided, but not a bad one.
For the next ten minutes, they said nothing, and Jungsoo realized that he had sunken into that mindless, serene calm that helped put him at ease but was usually difficult for him to unwind enough to reach, without even noticing it. Surprised, he snuck a glance at Taeyeon, his heart speeding up in his chest as he did. Was it because of her? Something about her presence made it unusually easy for him to let his guard down, but he couldn’t believe that he’d become so disarmed around her so suddenly. The soothing mindlessness that he had slipped into just now rarely came over him, even when he was completely alone.
Taeyeon looked over at him. Their eyes met and, caught red-handed, Jungsoo glanced away, feeling himself flush. The peace of their silence drained away, replaced with thick tension – at least that’s what it seemed like to him. God, what was the matter with him? He was acting like a teenager with a crush. That alone was embarrassing enough, but the bigger problem was that he was sure that Taeyeon was fast going to catch on that he was attracted to her if he didn’t get it together. Just the thought that she might notice was mortifying; how bewildered and maybe even unnerved would it make her? It hadn’t been that long a time since they’d first met outside of broadcasts, not to mention that he was ten years older than her. The thought was difficult for him to process; it would be even stranger for her.
Taeyeon’s eyes lingered on him for a few seconds longer before she looked away, apparently deciding to dismiss his staring – for which Jungsoo let out a little mental sigh of relief. He didn’t know why he had gotten lucky and she didn’t seem to think much of his glancing at her, but he prayed that his fortune would hold up until he could knock some sense into himself. And he would. She was a charming, individualistic, kind woman, not to mention very attractive, and she had been there for him in a moment of distress; it wasn’t unusual that he’d be gravitating towards her. It was just a passing attraction, it had to be. He’d make sure it was. And besides, he had too many other things to worry about. Super Junior’s comeback, his father, his grandparents, paying off his father’s debt… now was not the time.
Lost in thought, he was mildly startled when Taeyeon stood up; she had finished her coffee. Looking down at Jungsoo, she smiled, brushing her hand reassuringly across his shoulder as if she could tell he had some internal conflict going on. Despite resolving to get himself together not ten seconds ago, her fingers against his skin had Jungsoo’s nerves flaring and electricity arcing up his spine. He pushed back hard, figuratively speaking, on the involuntary shiver that threatened to shake him.
“I’ll pay, so don’t worry about the bill,” Taeyeon said. Jungsoo hesitated. “You really don’t need to.” He appreciated it, of course, but part of him wondered if it was a gesture borne from pity. Everyone in Korea must have heard about his father and grandparents, and as inappropriate as holding on to his pride was in his situation, he didn’t want to let go of it. He certainly didn’t want anyone to pay something as small as a coffee bill for him because they pitied him.
Pulling up her mask and tucking her cap on low over her face, Taeyeon briskly tossed the empty coffee cup into a nearby trash can and looked back at him. “I’m sure I don’t need to, but I do want to. Consider it my thanks for approaching me first to talk.”
Jungsoo said nothing to that. A thanks? Of all things, he’d never imagined that she’d be thanking him after the rocky start they were off to.
Taeyeon took his silence as a yes. “I’ll see you later then, sunbaenim.” Those light eyes crinkled at the corners as she smiled, and then she was off, heading briskly towards the counter to pay. Unable to stare after her lest he run the risk of being recognized, Jungsoo kept his gaze fixed firmly on the coffee in front of him, fighting to keep his expression indifferent. Their meeting hadn’t been much, but his mind, racing, scrambling, brimming with thoughts, seemed absolutely intent on making it into more than it had been.
All you did was apologize to each other, he reminded himself, irritated that the reminder was even necessary – irritated that he was acting like a newly-pubescent boy. If he didn’t fix his act by the next time he saw her, which was only two days away, then he was going to have to make it through another silently embarrassing day, praying that Taeyeon wouldn’t notice his chagrin. And even if she didn’t, even if she disregarded it, his members sure wouldn’t. The idea of such a day wasn’t an appealing one, and Jungsoo squared his shoulders, determined to avoid that particular possibility.
He was fishing through ways to properly compose himself around Taeyeon when it suddenly hit him: he had completely forgotten to thank her for helping him out during his panic attack in the studio. Fuck. Jungsoo wasn’t a forgetful person, so the realization was even more jarring. How had that completely slipped his mind?
Faced with the new knowledge that he’d definitely have to thank Taeyeon the next time he saw her, thus heightening his nerves, Jungsoo felt his thin resolve drain away, and the urge to just resign himself to more painful awkwardness on Monday grew stronger. With a sigh, he finished the coffee and tossed the cup into the trash. Then, careful not to make eye contact with anyone lest they recognize him, he hurriedly left the café.
~
Early that Monday morning, Jungsoo arrived at the studio, newly calm. He hadn’t managed to come up with a reliable way to retain his composure with Taeyeon, but he had managed to resolve himself to be professional. He could sort out his attraction to her in the privacy of the dorm; in the meantime, he was just going to have to play it cool, somehow.
Entering the building, he was surprised to find Taeyeon sitting on one of the couches; the actual meeting time wasn’t until about twenty minutes later. Her hair, still dyed platinum blonde, was swept into a ponytail, and she wore an oversized grey sweater, blue jeans, and brown boots, a white coat draped neatly next to her. Her eyes were narrowed with concentration, staring intently at a notebook in her lap, which she was sketching in. It was clear that she was too preoccupied to notice him.
“Good morning,” Jungsoo greeted, relieved to hear that his voice was calm. Good.
Taeyeon looked up. In the morning light streaming through the window of the studio, her eyes looked almost gold, giving her a slightly surreal air. “Oh – hello,” she said, standing up and bowing. “I’m sorry, I didn’t see you, sunbaenim.”
“That’s okay.” Jungsoo hesitated. Although they weren’t friends, he didn’t think that her bowing to him was quite proper anymore – not to mention that he was the only Super Junior member that she was still greeting formally, or even using honorifics with for that matter. He wanted to amend that; both out of a little bit of personal desire and the reasoning that being comfortable with her like the others would lessen potential suspicion. “You can stop using honorifics, if you’d like.”
Taeyeon took a seat on the couch again, looking up at him with a small but friendly smile. “I’d like to.” She’d dropped the honorifics, which made it easier for Jungsoo to as well. Awkwardly and a tad bit shyly, he responded by calling out her name, meaning for it to be funny, to break the ice. The attempt hung, tenuous and unsure, in the otherwise silent studio – and then both of them laughed.
Taeyeon’s laughter was the kind that was unrestrained and chiming, ringing through the room. “Now you’re just making it weird,” she complained, her lips curled upward from the remnants of her laughter.
“Am I?” Relieved that he was making progress, and that his composure was holding steady, the smile that spread over Jungsoo’s face was genuine. “I’m sorry. I’m not a funny person, so I make things weird instead.”
“If you’re not funny, no one is,” Taeyeon replied sincerely. “Really, sunbae. You’re hilarious. I think it’s amazing, and I’m sure there are plenty of people who would agree with me.”
Despite himself, her compliment made Jungsoo feel ridiculously happy. Embarrassed at his unwarranted reaction, he thanked her and had to make a conscious effort to not smile too wide before it hit him: he still hadn’t said the thank you that he came to the studio today intending to say. Mentally chiding himself for forgetting, Jungsoo spoke again.
“I never thanked you properly,” he said, “for helping me back then in the studio.” He could tell from the look in Taeyeon’s eyes that she remembered exactly what he was talking about. “We weren’t off to a good start, but you still did. I… it would have been difficult if you hadn’t helped me. So really, thank you so much.”
Taeyeon shook her head. “Don’t thank me,” she said sincerely. “I’m only relieved that you’re alright.” Her gaze flitted over him, and Jungsoo thought he saw a hint of thoughtfulness there. It made him feel like he was being appraised, but not in a bad way.
“You know,” Taeyeon spoke again, a small smile spreading on her face, “I feel like you’re going to be thanking me for a lifetime, sunbae.”
Jungsoo’s eyebrows rose at her statement, the subtle awkwardness of talking to a fairly unfamiliar person abating. Taeyeon was a good conversationalist, made him feel at ease despite his worries about how today was going to go. And it felt good to relax. Jungsoo wasn’t a shy person normally – tiptoeing around their verbal exchanges for fear of her noticing his less-than-appropriate feelings was exhausting, and he appreciated being able to loosen up enough to stop it. “We’ll be around each other for that long?”
“If you want to, I’m all for it. I may sound pretentious, but I like you.” Her eyes were on him, casual, playful, so Jungsoo had to rein in his thoughts from misinterpreting her words and letting his flusterment show. He opened his mouth, caught between thanking her and saying he liked her too, when the studio door opened and Heechul burst in, loudly singing KARD’s Mamma Mia. He stopped when he saw the two of them.
“You two are this early? Especially you, Teuk. You’re usually barely on time.”
“You’re earlier than is usual for you, too,” Jungsoo commented, also surprised to see his friend show up more than ten minutes before the time everyone had agreed upon.
“I’m going to reform my ways,” replied Heechul, with a tad big of unnecessary dramatic flair that made Jungsoo smile. He wasn’t quite sure if the other man was being serious – it was always hard to tell with Heechul – but Taeyeon snorted. “I guarantee that you’ll have given up within the week.”
“Hey,” Heechul gave her a dirty look. “Don’t crush my dreams. I’m trying to be better!”
“You’re already plenty good,” Taeyeon said, the compliment as natural and understated as breathing. “But if you want to be better, I’m just giving you my best assessment.”
“That’s still crushing my dreams,” Heechul whined. Taeyeon shrugged, obviously feigning nonchalance.
“I guess that’s the way it’s going to have to be, then.”
Jungsoo watched the exchange with interest. He’d never really bothered to pay too much attention to Heechul’s interactions with Taeyeon; all he knew was that they had known each other since 2009, when they’d emceed Inkigayo together. Now, from firsthand observation, it was clear that they were more than just acquainted; they were obviously friends.
“You and Teuk are finally talking.” Heechul’s mention of his name brought Jungsoo back out of his thoughts. He winced internally – he had hoped Heechul wouldn’t notice, given that he’d put some effort into staying under the radar, but he guessed that with Heechul’s perceptiveness, he had been wasting energy even hoping. Taeyeon didn’t say anything, but Jungsoo saw her shoot him a discreet glance through the corner of her eye.
“It’s none of my business what happened, but I’m glad that the two of you are getting along better.” There was sincerity in Heechul’s voice.
I’m glad, too, Jungsoo thought, also sincere. Despite the private conflict that getting closer to Taeyeon had caused him, he was still happy that they’d been able to smooth out the kinks between them. It felt good to understand why Taeyeon grew on the other members so fast so fast – and besides, knowing her on a level that was a little bit more than common was just a nice feeling, in general. She was a charming person, and someone he could see becoming and would like to become friends with. As long as he could get his attraction to her under control, that was. But he was sure that he’d be able to; he felt much more comfortable around her now. Surely if he had managed to that in such a short time, he could make his feelings go away soon enough. They were unwarranted, anyway, and more of a result of appreciation and desperation than actual… well, feelings.
“That’s new for you to say – you’ve never really cared much about that kind of stuff.” Taeyeon commented, looking at Heechul curiously. “Is it just nice to see two of your friends corroborating well?”
“That’s part of it,” replied Heechul. “But it’s mainly… this sounds weird, but I just wanted you two to get along.”
That did sound a bit strange, but Jungsoo found it more amusing than anything. He was grateful that Heechul wasn’t particularly interested in knowing the specifics of what had gone on between them, because that would have been an awkward conversation containing information that he wasn’t sure he was willing to divulge. But he did find Heechul’s wish that he and Taeyeon see eye-to-eye to be endearing – especially so because it was Heechul, who normally really didn’t pay attention.
“Huh.” Taeyeon sounded vaguely surprised. “Well, be happy. I think Leeteuk-sunbae and I will get along pretty well.” She glanced over at Jungsoo, and their eyes met. Somehow, by some force of will, Jungsoo was able to stop himself from reflexively looking away out of embarrassment, worried that his jumpiness would make Taeyeon suspect something. But she didn’t look away either. They held each other’s gaze for a good five seconds before Jungsoo cleared his throat, unable to keep it up any longer. To his chagrin, he could feel Heechul’s eyes on him.
The sound of the door opening had them all turning to look. It was Hyukjae, holding a coffee in one hand. He seemed surprised at the group that had already gathered in the studio, but greeted them all cheerfully; first Jungsoo and Heechul with a “yo” and Taeyeon with a quick side-hug, the two briefly looping their arms around each other’s shoulders. Now that he could be near Taeyeon without constantly cringing at the thought of their argument, Jungsoo could see exactly how familiar she’d become with Hyukjae, too. The side-hug was natural and easy on both sides, both of them clearly not thinking too much before doing it. Hyukjae was a fairly physically affectionate person, but Jungsoo hadn’t been so sure about Taeyeon. She didn’t seem to be averse to it, though; he wondered if she maybe was physically affectionate too – and then scolded himself. If he let himself become curious about her it would be harder for his attraction to ease. But still, the urge to look at her again gnawed at him. He clamped down on it, though, unwilling to run the risk of getting caught staring. He’d already done that once before today; he couldn’t afford a second time.
One by one, the other members began to arrive until they were all there. Jungsoo did a quick count; Heechul, Youngwoon, Donghee, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Kyuhyun, and Ryeowook, all there. They were there to record the chorus parts of Islands, which required all of them to be singing. Taeyeon had proposed that the results would be better if they all sang together, and the majority of the members had agreed, hence them all gathering at the same time for the recording today.
Ready to record, all of them, minus Taeyeon, filed into the recording room. As for Taeyeon, she sat at the desk in front of the room, where most producers usually sat, and looked through the glass of the recording room at them. By now, he was used to seeing that critical look in her eyes when it came to work. He appreciated it, because he and the other members were the same way.
But although he was used to that critical look, it was the first time he could stand to be the subject of it without feeling too uncomfortable. Before their fight he had always fought the nagging instinct to make his dislike of her known on his face when he felt her watching him, after their fight he had found it difficult to be in her notice at all, and after his breakdown in the studio when she’d comforted him, he just felt so flustered in her presence that he was afraid he’d make himself look like a fool at any moment. Now, though, that they were more familiar with each other, he was fairly relaxed for the first time when recording with her overseeing. As expected, it felt pretty good to be able to stay calm during work after so long.
The recording went fairly smoothly, and it was only during then that Jungsoo managed to get a clear mental image of what exactly Taeyeon was like when producing. She gave little nudges and suggestions here and there, listening diligently as the members sang. She was strict, and extremely meticulous, but she wasn’t overbearing or rude, and had no problem with jokes and fun from time to time. It was over sooner than Jungsoo had anticipated it would be, and he blinked in surprise when Taeyeon looked down at her notes one more time and nodded. “I think everything’s good,” she called. “What about you?”
The members all gave their agreement, and they filed out of the recording room one by one. Taeyeon marked down a few more things on the sheets of lyrics she had been writing on and then stood up, gathering the papers in front of her in her hand. Her eyes, though, were still narrowed in concentration, intently examining the words in front of her for something Jungsoo couldn’t gauge. And he didn’t even have the thoughts to gauge it, not when his focus had been completely swept up by the curve of her dark eyelashes and the movement of her platinum blonde hair as a few strands fell across her eyes from the downward incline of her neck. Fascinated against his better sense, he stared as she swept the fringe briskly from her face with her index finger. Was it normal to find a single, short movement so charming?
Abruptly, Taeyeon glanced up, finishing her once-over of the papers in her hand. Their eyes met.
Startled and a tad bit panicked, Jungsoo looked away, cursing himself for letting his guard down. He could feel Taeyeon’s eyes on him, and willed himself to be natural under her scrutiny. To his dismay, it wasn’t as easy as he’d hoped it would be by now, because she didn’t glance away for a good several seconds. And by the time she did and he had worked up the nerve to look in her direction again, there was a thoughtful look on her face. Jungsoo’s heart dropped, and the world tilted on its axis. Fuck, fuck – had she caught on?
“Hey, this Friday,” Siwon spoke up, “would anyone mind if we all have dinner together? This week is our last week working with Taeyeon, and I thought it would be good if we gave her a send-off.”
“A send-off?” Taeyeon laughed, her greyish eyes glinting under the studio lights. “Siwon-oppa, you don’t need to. It’s not like I’m dying or anything.”
“But it’ll be the end of you working with us,” Hyukjae pointed out, slight dismay in his voice as he voiced the thought. “It’s been great so far, Taeyeon. I really think you deserve what Siwon’s suggesting. It’s a good idea – I’m in.”
Jungsoo blinked as the other members began voicing their agreement or nodding their heads in consent. He had never seen them so charmed so fast by a person. Sure, they were never unfriendly, but this – it was obvious just how genuinely taken with Taeyeon all of them were.
Before, he would have scoffed. Wondered what it was about her that was so great in their eyes. But now, he thought he might have some idea – and it was just a slight bit unnerving, Jungsoo realized, how fast Taeyeon had grown on him, just like she must have fast grown on all the other members.
“Hyung?” Siwon’s voice brought him out of his thoughts. “Are you okay with it, too?”
Jungsoo realized that everyone in the room, including Taeyeon, were now looking at him quizzically. Chiding himself for getting distracted, he nodded. “I’m all for it.”
Taeyeon smiled. It was a small smile, just a slight curling up of her lips, but it stood out in Jungsoo’s sight like a single red rose growing in the middle of a pile of weeds. She looked genuinely glad that he had expressed his willingness to go along with Siwon’s idea. For some reason, that fact surprised him – and, to his dismay, sent his heart pounding. He took a deep breath, willing it to be calm.
“This Friday it is, then,” Siwon said. “What time is good for everyone?”
“Anytime after five is fine for me,” Hyukjae reported.
“After five-thirty, I’m clear.” That was Youngwoon.
One by one, the members began to give their times. Everyone was free after six, so they eventually decided that they’d all meet up at the restaurant on Friday by six-thirty.
“Looks like you’ve completely entranced everyone,” Heechul said to Taeyeon. His tone was joking, but Jungsoo couldn’t help wondering if his friend was being serious. Because it was true – Taeyeon had entranced all the members over her time working with them. They had all always been friendly, but he hadn’t seen them so happy that they were close to someone for a long time.
“It’s only because they’re kind to me,” Taeyeon replied, palming Heechul lightly on the cheek, a small but playful smile on her face. Surprised to see that they were close enough for such casual physical contact, Jungsoo had to look away from the pair to process what he’d just learned from that short exchange. He’d known Taeyeon and Heechul had been acquainted for years, and he’d found out today that they were friends, but he didn’t think they had become so effortlessly comfortable with each other as they were. Heechul was a person who took some time to get close to, and he and Taeyeon had only met about five years ago. Jungsoo wouldn’t have expected that he and Taeyeon had become close enough for easy skin-on-skin contact – with Taeyeon touching Heechul’s face, no less – but it had just happened in front of his eyes. He wondered if Heechul had maybe fallen to that charm of Taeyeon’s, just as the other members had.
Kind to her… well, Jungsoo didn’t know about anyone else, but he certainly couldn’t say that he’d been kind to her after everything. He appreciated that she hadn’t mentioned their rough start, although he knew it probably had less to do with doing him a favor and more to do with avoiding anyone else from knowing about what had happened between the two of them. Still, he was thankful regardless.
Heechul laughed, boisterous and unrestrained as usual. “Kind? These guys? You must have really put a spell on them if they made you think they were nice with the way they treated you.”
“Maybe they’re not nice around you because of the way you treat them,” Taeyeon retorted, smiling. There was a teasing gleam in her eyes. “I know what you were like a few years ago, oppa. No wonder they’ve become hardened if they had to deal with the way you were back then as much as they did.”
Jungsoo couldn’t help reminiscing a little at Taeyeon’s words. Back in 2009 – yes, Heechul had definitely been a pain in the ass. He still was – he wouldn’t be the Heechul that he knew otherwise – but significantly less so. Which, he supposed, could be considered a blessing from God.
The week went by smoothly, and, to Jungsoo’s relief, he was getting a grip on his attraction to Taeyeon. When she looked at him his heart still raced, but it was becoming easier and easier to hide it. He could carry out fairly lengthy conversations with her without a hitch and without losing his composure, and talking to her in general was becoming easier and easier to manage. She was still funny and charming and there was something about her that drew people in, but any feelings of romantic interest were, every-so-slightly, beginning to wane. He wanted to and hoped he would keep being friends with her, get to know her better, but thoughts of anything beyond that were slowly vanishing. It made sense, Jungsoo thought, since his romantic interest in her wasn’t even romantic interest at all – just a spur-of-the-moment attachment that had happened when he was, mentally and emotionally, in a low place, and she had helped him out.
Now that he had gotten to know her better, he recognized that she was too… surreal for him to legitimately want to pursue a romantic relationship with her. Despite working with her now for a substantial amount of time, she seemed so distant and out of reach. Not the way she acted – that was down-to-earth and grounded – but just her. She was easily charming, seemed to be able to seamlessly break the awkward ice between people interacting for the first time. She was intelligent, well-spoken, beautiful, and seemed to be a natural in every field; perfect at everything, bad at nothing. And while it was fascinating to witness, it made her almost intimidating despite her calm, approachable personality. She seemed just like the kind of person who was absolutely, one-hundred percent confident in herself; no insecurities, no baggage, no worries, completely satisfied with every aspect of her life. It made her feel alien, not someone he pictured would even be interested in dating.
Jungsoo arrived at the restaurant that they’d all agreed to meet, the waiter escorting him into a large, private room that Siwon had reserved for the night, at to find that Taeyeon, Hyukjae, and Heechul were already there; Hyukjae was on his phone, reading an article, Heechul was looking through the menu, and, sitting next to him, Taeyeon was typing something in her phone. Heechul was the first to notice him, glancing up to acknowledge his presence before looking back at the menu. Then it was Hyukjae, who called “hyung”, and turned his attention again to what he had been reading. Taeyeon didn’t see him until he took a seat, after which she looked up, an expression of mild surprise on her face. When she saw him, though, she smiled.
“Sunbae,” she greeted, “I’d say it’s good to see you, but I just saw you today at the studio.”
“That was hours ago,” Jungsoo pointed out, smiling back at her, “you never know, something could have happened between.”
“If something did, I would have noticed it,” Taeyeon assured him. Jungsoo couldn’t place his finger on why it felt like an assurance rather than just a statement.
The others arrived and they crowded around the tables put together, listing their orders to the waiters. Jungsoo ordered a bowl of jjajangmyeon and some ice water, glanced around to make sure that everyone had everything they needed before taking a bite. He was familiar with the restaurant’s food, having eaten here before a few times, but it was so good that he wholeheartedly enjoyed the meal, nonetheless.
After everyone had finished their dinner, Siwon, being as over-the-top as he was when it came to these things, presented a bottle of wine that he’d bought for the occasion. It was a fairly expensive brand and pretty hard to come by, so Jungsoo was impressed when his fellow member pulled out the bottle. They all filled their glasses. The mood was cheery, maybe the smallest bit wild, and altogether pleasant. For the first time in a while, Jungsoo felt light.
As usual, Siwon was as poised and smooth like a politician as he began speaking once the last glass had been filled to the brim with wine. “I think we all want to express our gratitude towards Taeyeon for working with us for these past weeks.”
“Oppa,” Taeyeon complained, even though she was smiling gratefully. “You really don’t have to. It’s embarrassing!”
“Be quiet, you deserve this,” Heechul retorted, patting her head softly. Nodding in agreement with Heechul’s statement, Siwon continued.
“For one, I enjoyed my time with her,” he said. “And I think she’s a talented, charming, genuine, kindhearted woman who deserves all the best.”
In her seat, Taeyeon was practically crumpling in embarrassment; it was Jungsoo’s first time seeing her look so off-kilter. Her shoulders were tensed and she was hiding her nose and mouth behind her hands, eyes narrowed bashfully. An awkward, self-conscious laugh burst from her as the others nodded and called out their agreement to Siwon’s words. Jungsoo stared at her, trying to be discreet, but it was fascinating to see someone who was so unfailingly composed in such a state.
“She’s allergic to compliments like I am,” Heechul declared, watching Taeyeon’s reaction with amusement. The members all jumped on the bait, lightheartedly poking at Taeyeon about her chagrined response to Siwon’s speech while she waved them off, pretending to be annoyed but not even trying to hide the smile on her face.
“So how did you like working with us, Taeyeon?” Youngwoon asked, hushing the group with his question as all of them leaned in curiously to hear Taeyeon’s answer. She looked thoughtful.
“Fun,” Pandora’s leader finally said. “I was sure it would be lively, since it’s, well, Super Junior, but it was even more entertaining than I expected it to be.”
“What did you expect?” Hyukjae asked, completely focused on Taeyeon as she spoke.
“A lot of tomfoolery,” she replied, “but I think it was better than that. Super Junior makes work half into entertainment. You’re all so serious when you need to be – it amazed me how quickly you can go from recording diligently to making ridiculous jokes.”
“Then!” Heechul interrupted, a mischievous glint in his eye that made Jungsoo uneasy to look at. He could just tell that his friend was about to suggest something ridiculous.
Heechul didn’t disappoint. “Why don’t you go around the table and say what you liked most about each member, Taeyeon?”
Taeyeon groaned, fixing Heechul with an irritated look. “Why did I know you were going to suggest some bullshit?”
“I want to know,” Kyuhyun chimed it with sly excitement, prompting Taeyeon to give him a look of betrayed exasperation. That exasperation only increased when Kangin voiced his agreement, and then Hyukjae, and then Ryeowook. Jungsoo sat in slight unease; even though he highly doubted Taeyeon would say anything particular about him, he wasn’t sure what she’d be able to come up with. It hadn’t even been a week since they first had a proper, civil conversation.
“Okay, okay,” Taeyeon grumbled. She started with Heechul, putting a hand on his shoulder and patting him lightly as she spoke. “For Heechul-oppa… well, we’ve known each other for some time now, but this is the first time I’ve seen him work up close. I was surprised to see how much he put his all into it. I mean, I knew he wasn’t the type of person to goof off when it’s not the time to, but I don’t think I really anticipated how hard he works.”
Despite being the person who had suggested this entire game, Heechul looked slightly self-conscious at Taeyeon’s words. “Stop that,” he said. “You’re supposed to say you didn’t realize how much of a lunatic I was or something, not that.”
“I already know plenty about what a lunatic you are. There’s a reason my nickname for you is Nutcase,” Taeyeon responded, smiling at Heechul before she glanced around the table. “For Hyukjae-oppa…”
Hyukjae raised his eyebrows beckoningly as Taeyeon stared at him, putting her thoughts together. “I think I was impressed that he can make work so lighthearted. With Pandora we’re all pretty serious throughout recording sessions. Recording with Hyukjae-oppa, though – that was different. You made me laugh every five minutes,” she added, smiling at Hyukjae.
She went on, going around the table as Jungsoo’s uneasiness grew by the moment. Finally, she was at him. Just my luck that I ended up last, he thought dejectedly.
“As for Jungsoo-oppa,” Taeyeon started, and Jungsoo had to remind himself not to let his surprise show; she’d jumped from calling him Leeteuk-sunbae to Jungsoo-oppa, a way of reference that was infinitely more casual. And while he understood that she’d done it because it would be strange if she referred to him as Leeteuk-sunbae after calling all the other members by their real names, which would draw suspicion (the last thing that either of them wanted to do), it was still jarring to hear.
“He’s kind.”
Jungsoo stared at her. He was dumbfounded. Of all the things to say about him, that was it? He would have written her words off as just trying to compliment him so it didn’t look strange to the other members, but the way that Taeyeon locked eyes with him and held his gaze effortlessly with her own told him that, without a doubt, she was being sincere. Completely, totally sincere. And that confused him even more.
The others must have seen that she was genuine, too, because they didn’t laugh or comment that this must mean she really had nothing good to say about him. Heechul gave him a long look, Youngwoon’s eyes flickered back and forth between him and Taeyeon, and Siwon leaned back slightly as he looked at Taeyeon as if he was getting a new perspective on her.
Flushed and clueless of how to handle the compliment, Jungsoo could only laugh in embarrassment. If it had been from someone he was close with, like the other members, he would have puffed up pridefully – mostly as a joke, though he was honest enough to admit that being complimented felt good – but this was Taeyeon. They didn’t know each other that well, and yet he could tell her compliment wasn’t at all meant to flatter him. Where could she have possibly concluded that he was, of all things, kind?
“Leeteuk-hyung’s embarrassed!” Kyuhyun crowed, a shit-eating grin plastered on his face, which only widened when Jungsoo glared at him.
The other members metaphorically flocked to the bait as they usually did, making teasing statements and poking verbally at Jungsoo a little more.
“Must be nice!” Youngwoon commented slyly. Jungsoo scowled at him too, though there was no real anger behind it – in fact, he was still slightly embarrassed.
“Be serious,” Taeyeon scolded, even though from the gleam in her eyes she was clearly amused. “I’m being honest – he really is kind.”
“Leeteuk-hyung is our leader for a reason, after all,” Hyukjae agreed, and from there the teasing gradually died down, much to Jungsoo’s relief. The conceding nods from the others made him mostly self-conscious all over again, but a little bit of him was proud, pleased, that they thought the same.
A little less than an hour later, everyone was getting ready to go. Jungsoo excused himself to bathroom, intending to wash his hands and head out. He was feeling slightly tipsy, but he hadn’t drunk that much and was still in full control of his senses. At least he thought so, until he, caught up in a daze, nearly stumbled into someone – a woman – as he was turning the corner of the secluded hall leading to the bathroom. Slightly panicked, he kept his head down and muttered an apology, hoping she wouldn’t be creeped out.
“It’s just me, sunbae.”
Realizing it was Taeyeon and he needn’t have worried, Jungsoo looked up to find her watching him, a glint of amusement in her eyes.
“I’m sorry if I was unexpected when I called you ‘Jungsoo-oppa’ earlier,” she said. “I’m sure you know why I did it, but it was still out of nowhere.”
Oh. She didn’t need to apologize for that. If she was already referring to the other members by their names, there was no reason she couldn’t with him, he decided.
“You can keep calling me that, if you’re okay with it,” he told her.
Taeyeon looked mildly surprised, her eyebrows rising curiously. “I’m okay with it – Jungsoo-oppa.”
For some reason, Jungsoo smiled. It felt… nice to hear her call him that. Not the romantic kind of thrill that would send his heartbeat speeding up, but the warm, fluffy kind of satisfaction that he really felt closer to her. Hearing her refer to him as ‘Jungsoo-oppa’ confirmed it.
“I really meant what I said, you know.” Taeyeon’s voice was even.
“What about?”
“About you being kind. You are – you’re a really good person. I’ve always admired it.”
Her honest admission knocked Jungsoo off his feet, metaphorically speaking. He was grateful she had such a good impression of him – truly – but he couldn’t, for the life of him, figure out what made her draw those conclusions about him. Taeyeon had always been a Super Junior fan – he remembered her saying that several times before on shows. Was it because she’d listened to the stories the members had told about him? Had she seen him talking about his place as leader? But moreover, was all that even enough to draw the genuine conclusion that he was a good person?
“Honestly,” he admitted, “I can’t put my finger on what made you think that. I’m grateful – of course I am – but I’m confused.”
Taeyeon gave a small smile, fondness softening her gaze. Jungsoo didn’t see what else except him that it could be directed at, but he also couldn’t make himself believe that it was directed at him. Why would it be?
“I like that cluelessness of yours too,” she told him. “How it’s so easy for everyone else to tell what a good person you are, but you can’t tell it yourself.”
Jungsoo didn’t say anything. He couldn’t think of anything to say, anything to do, except stare at her in silence, caught completely off-guard. When someone was complimented so blatantly, with such sincerity, what were they supposed to do?
“I… thank you,” he stammered. “I’m still not sure what I’ve done to make you think so highly of me, though.”
Taeyeon looked thoughtful. “It’s not from how you act with me – we haven’t talked that much, after all. I think… the way you interact with your members touches me.”
“How?”
“You always look after them before you look after yourself. I can see how much they mean to you.”
Her response was simple, but cutting, its implications easy to grasp. “You’ve been observing me?” Jungsoo couldn’t deny that the thought was flattering, if a little bit unsettling to picture his mindless daily grind being taken note of by anyone. No one around him really paid much attention; it was a rare occurrence for him to be observed unless he was actively trying to be.
Taeyeon laughed. “It sounds kind of creepy when you put it that way. I think I have a habit of observing things, even when they’re not technically my business. But yes – I have.”
So that was why she’d come to her concluded that he was, by her words, a good person. Kind. The thought made him feel slightly choked, like emotions were rising up inside of him, but he couldn’t fathom why they would be at a time like this. It couldn’t possibly be just because someone had told him so blatantly that they found him kind, could it?
Taeyeon was silent for a moment, but Jungsoo could feel her eyes on him, thoughtful the same way they’d been at the studio earlier this week. He wondered if he should say something, but she spoke then.
“Sorry, I’ve been holding you up from the bathroom. I’m going now.” Flashing him a brief smile, she walked around him and back to the private room that Siwon had reserved.
Watching her go briefly before finishing the walk down the hallway and to the bathroom, Jungsoo found it surprisingly difficult to forget Taeyeon’s words.
He’s kind.
You’re a really good person.
As he finished washing his hands and shut off the faucet, he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror and found himself staring at his reflection. Dark eyes, dyed brown hair still fairly short from his time in the military, a long nose and a pretty defined jawline. It was only until he finished observing his own self that it clicked. Why Taeyeon’s casual words were sticking with him so firmly.
For a long time now, Jungsoo realized – he’d been wanting to hear someone say those things to him. It didn’t have to be over-the-top, because that would come off as insincere, but he had wanted someone, somewhere, to direct those words at him. And Taeyeon had – so earnestly and easily.

He’s my soulmate, unfortunately | Chapter 2
Tumblr media
{Requests are open!}
Summary | Previous | You are here | Next
“So you mean to tell me that you found your soulmate and didn’t decide to let me know until now?”
“I know it sounds bad but it was the middle of the night manager-nim” Y/n sighed out, rubbing his eyes, “You would have been asleep. I wanted to tell you in person”
The older male that stood opposite the idol let out a deep sigh of frustration, pulling his phone out of his pocket “I can’t believe this has happened so close to the comeback” He gritted out, eyebrows furrowed, “I’ll talk to who I need to talk to, you go back to practice and I’ll come to get you all when we need to go to the radio interview today…”
Y/n looked down, eyes glassy and nodded before walking off down the barren hallways towards the practice studio he was just in. When he entered the room, the rest of his group could see the underlying frustration and sadness in his eyes but none of them wanted to bring it up. They had seen this look before when, in the past, their leader had thought he found his soulmark but it turns out it wasn’t; they had all heard the quiet sobs down the hall from when he was crying because he felt like the world wasn’t in his favour. They had all heard it yet Y/n still put up a front of him not caring. If you ever asked him about it, the leader would say that it’s for the sake of the fans, none of them wanted to see the idol they loved so much be sad over a simple thing he couldn’t control.
The idol snapped out of his jumbled thoughts after feeling the pounding bass of their title track for their upcoming album flow through his feet; the beginning few notes of the song allowed Y/n enough time to get into position, his body moving on its own as the lyrics began to fill the room. The group went on to practice other songs for another half hour before their manager came through the heavy wooden door.
“Alright, you lot!” His booming voice filled the studio, “Go and get ready because we need to head off to the radio interview soon! You have 20 minutes max!” The mention of a time limit had the two youngest, Shinwa and Lee, running off to go and get ready while the older three took their time.
With a quick wardrobe change, some makeup and a car drive later, the group known as Canvas were at the radio station. All members sat around a large, circle-shaped desk with headphones on and a microphone in front of them, two radio hosts with them. Per request, the group started off the interview by introducing themselves after the announcement that they were in the studio;
“1! 2!” The group chanted, “Paint the sky! We are Canvas!”
“If you don’t know who these guys are then where have you been?!” The female host questioned with a laugh.
“That’s right!” The male host affirmed, “Today we have every single member with us!: Y/n, Ren, Taewoo, Lee and Shinwa!”
Eventually, the studio calmed down and after a few basic questions of how they were doing and how life had been for them, the hosts moved on to some questions that were prepared specifically for the interview; “So! I’ll get the biggest question out of the way first…” one of the hosts began, leaning closer to the mic, “Can the fans expect a comeback soon?”
The question sent a buzz of excitement through the group, the fact that they had to keep it a secret bringing a grin to their faces as they looked between each other “Well…” The eldest member spoke up, “Unfortunately, we can’t say a single thing but please wait a little bit longer for us!” Murmurs began to fill the room in anticipation, Rens words clearly hinting at a bigger production that was going on behind the scenes. More questions were fired around the studio, ranging from “Who takes the longest to get up?” and “Who has improved the most?”; this went on for a while before the hosts announced that it was time for fan questions. The members adjusted their sitting positions, headphones and mics, getting a bit more excited for these questions as the fans tended to ask questions that were a lot more interesting.
“So the first question is about instruments!” The female host began, “This fan asks, ‘Do any of the members play an instrument. If yes, what instrument do you play?’”
The members of the group looked in between each other, trying to confirm if one of them did; Y/n sat in silence, the mention of instruments bringing back thoughts of his dream.
“I don’t think so?” Lee spoke, resting his head on his chin, confusion in his tone.
“Ah! No!” the youngest exclaimed, drawing all attention to himself, “Y/n-Hyung does! You play the violin don’t you?”
Y/n blinked in surprise before letting out a chuckle slip from his lips as he rubbed at his neck, “I do play the violin actually, I just don’t find the time nowadays…” He trailed off, “I really should get back into playing…” Everyone in the room nodded, slightly uncomfortable at the male's vague tone. They then moved on to the next question, What hobbies do you have? The group couldn’t help but laugh, Taewoos standing out the most. The second oldest went on to mention that sleep and eating were at the top of everyone's list due to lack of time to do things. Each member mentioned something simple afterwards to add some substance to the question; then came the second to last question.
“So this fan is wondering what soulmarks each member has?” The male host's eyebrows shooting up in surprise, “Brave question to ask, listener, let's get some answers then…”
“Well, my soulmark is quite obvious isn’t it?” Shinwa grinned, “You can’t miss it. Not every day that you see someone with a whole vine of roses stretching wrist to wrist is it?”
“Ren-hyung and I have the timer soulmark” Taewoo followed up, earning a hum from the eldest, “The only difference is that they’re in different spots. Mines is on my wrist while his is on his neck I believe”
Next was Lee “My soulmark is where whatever your soulmate draws on themselves shows up on you” He wistfully sighed out, “Pretty common and not that special.”
“Ah! I hear that you’ve met your soulmate? Are the rumours true?” One of the hosts probed, their ears turning red at the personal question.
The second youngest let out an airy chuckle at the question “We’ve never actually met in person but she does write to me every day and before every performance. However, we normally text as it’s easier” Lee couldn’t help but grin, making everyone else smile. He had been the first to meet their soulmate when he was much younger due to the very obvious direct connection to each other; he was so whipped but he didn’t care.
“Right, moving on!” The female host called out to break the overwhelmingly stuffy atmosphere, “Y/n! You’re getting older and is there still no sign of your soulmate?”
The leader couldn’t help but wince at the direct jab at his age and situation but decided to be professional and move past it; this didn’t stop his brain from recounting the moment he met his soulmate over and over again “I… still don’t know my soulmark…” He lied through gritted teeth, “I do hope to meet them soon and discuss what might have taken us so long to meet…” The tension in the room was suffocating everyone, the question a very touchy one to approach.
To break the tension as soon as possible, the hosts moved on to the next question “So the last question is quite simple” The male host coughed out as he awkwardly adjusted his headphones and mic, “Are there any particular groups you enjoy listening to?”
A few different groups were thrown around as well as some solo artists just for fun, all from the other members of Canvas; as to not be left out, Y/n jumped in with his thoughts “I quite like NCT and Bts” He spoke as he rubbed at his chin, “They have quite the variety of genres and its nice to listen to.” Gasps filled the room, making Y/n blink in confusion.
“Y/n-ssi...” The female host spoke, hand over her mouth, “You like Bts? Even with the comparisons made of you and Suga-ssi? How?”
The male couldn’t help but grit his teeth as he brought the microphone closer to his lips “I don’t know where this idea of us being rivals came from?” He began, eyes fiery, “I don’t understand the notion of rivalry in the idol industry as it likely does more harm than good. I’d like to meet with Suga-sunbae one day but I think it’d be awkward due to the supposed ‘relationship’ of rivalry we have as portrayed by the media…” Y/n stopped to take a deep breath, rubbing at his temples in an attempt to calm down.
The silence in the room was deadly, one breath in and you might just die from suffocation. Both hosts let out awkward and forced coughs to break the silence before deciding that now was the time to end the interview; the members said their goodbyes and made their way to to the van that would take them home. In the van, their manager looked Y/n in the eyes and shook his head in disappointment. He let the male know that it was his turn to do a V-live and to not have an outburst or say anything stupid tonight as he did back in the radio station. Y/n simply nodded and sat there in silence for the rest of the journey.
Once home, the group sat at the table to have some food, silence aching and pulling on their minds. It wasn’t till the end of the meal that one of the members decided to speak up about what just happened “So…” Ren began quietly, his tone pointed and on edge, “What was that about Y/n?”
Y/n winced at the tone of his hyungs voice, the words digging into him like knives “It was nothing, it doesn’t matter” he fired back
“Didn’t seem like nothing to me…”
“Well, it was! So just-” the volume of his voice spiked before coming back down, “- leave it will you?” The other members at the table glanced between each other, they knew the topic would be touchy after the interview and they were all curious about what had happened; it was just that none of them wanted to ask about it. As Ren kept probing into the issue, The youngest looked as if he was about to cry while Lee and Taewoo tried to look for a moment to diffuse the situation. Suddenly, Y/n stood up, his chair scraping against the floor, and slammed his hands on the table;
“Look! If you want to know so bad, fine!” He seethed, “I can’t cope with this! It’s all so new to me while everyone here has had time to come to terms with it. I don’t wanna hear anything anymore so I’m going upstairs to do the live. Goodnight!”  And then he left, not bothering to clean his plate up or take it to the kitchen.
In his room, Y/n took a moment to calm down and then began to set up his camera for the v-live; he sat at his desk with all his art supplies and then hit the broadcast button. He let the view count go up for a while and greeted a few people as they greeted him. The male then took a proper look at the comments, noting the ones that asked where the other members were and the ones in English, picking one out to answer “M/n-ie you were on the radio today right?” he read out in a higher-pitched voice, “You’re right! I was indeed. I hope you all enjoyed it?”
The comments set off like crazy, ignoring all the questions that asked about his soulmate, instead choosing to show them the drawing he had worked on a few days ago. He lifted his sketchbook to show the camera and began to talk about it, not noticing the page beginning to move and show the drawing he made last night. The comments went crazy and it took a moment for Y/n to notice. His eyes scanned the comments closely before flitting up to his sketchbook, panic taking over his tired eyes.
He didn’t know what to do, everyone had seen it so what should he do? He couldn’t just play it off as if he didn’t see it or that it wasn’t there; he was so lucky that he didn’t draw facial features otherwise he would have been done for. Y/n could feel the cogs turning in his head. “I… uhhhh…” Y/n drawled out, mind trying to come up with words, “I d-drew this last night? Yeah! I drew this last night because it came to me in my dreams” His eyes scanned the gentle features of the drawing, silently critiquing the drawing at the same time.
“It was weird, I was there and someone else was too…” The comments began showing up like crazy, so many asking if his soulmark might be the soulmate dream room type and that he had only just found out. Y/n shook his head, his eyes suddenly absent of any emotion “It couldn’t be my soulmark type, there's no way that someone who's like a rival to me would be my soulmate. It was just a stupid dream…”
His words barely noted in his mind, but he did pick up on them; Y/n decided that then would be a good time to end the live before he did anything else that might be controversial or stupid. He said his goodbyes, shut down the live and went to bed, choosing to turn his phone on silent in an attempt to stop the constant notifications that appeared on his phones dull screen.

The story of love can be told be as the story of hyacinths. Love can be rash in all its forms. And when viewed through pink, rose tinted light, love is playful. But in times of sadness and the purple haze of guilt, love let’s us swallow our pride and ask for forgiveness.
“Hyung!”
Jungkook smiled, his dongsaeng were excited for him to visit. The five boys absolutely loved it when their sunbae visited. It made them feel like they were doing a good job. Though, they’ll never tell Jungkook, but they wished he’d visit a little less often.
Especially since it seemed to miff the assistant manager off quite a bit. Normally, she didn’t have a problem with their hyung visiting them, in fact she encouraged it. But Jungkook… Jungkook was a trouble maker for her. He loved to come in and get them all excited, making them laugh when they were suppose to be working.
Currently, this was one of those times. Jungkook took advantage of when she left the practice room, having to find a quite place to take a call. Their main manager was in a meeting with Hitman, so she was left in charge. After he was sure she had turned the corner, taking her call, he quietly slipped into their practice room, the boys still dancing.
Though the moment they saw their hyung’s reflection in the mirror, the seriousness in their eyes while they practiced disappeared. All five stopped and turned, shouting, “Hyung!”
Soobin immediately ran over to the stereo and turned it off. All five stood in a semi-circle around Jungkook, all slightly sweaty from practicing. Taehyun was the first one to voice his excitement, “Hyung! What are you doing here? How’d you get in here without Noona noticing you?”
Jungkook laughed, “That’s for me to know and for you to find out. Anyways, do you know how long she’ll be out? I wanna try to dash out of here, before she comes back.”
Beomgyu answered, “It sounded like the coordinator for Mnet confirming something. So… she’ll probably be a while. Mnet sure does like to triple and quadruple check everything.”
“Perfect!”
Immediately, Jungkook sat down. The boys followed his lead. “So, tell me. What has your noona been up to?”
Yeonjun clicked his tongue. “Why do you always ask about her? You could just, you know, talk to her.”
Hueningkai laughed, “Come on, really? If it’s not work related, she’ll probably end up biting his head off.”
The boys laughed at their hyung’s expense. “Come on. Give me the details. She can’t just be all work.”
Soobin started hesitantly, “Well, she got in trouble with our head manager.” Yeonjun and Beomgyu tried not to laugh. “She, uh, got in trouble for sneaking me a half of a bread roll during practice.”
The poor boy blushed in embarrassment. He really loved bread and his noona knew that, figuring that a little bit of bread wouldn’t hurt the growing boy. His bandmates started laughing at his expense. Jungkook joined in too. As much as he loved his dongsaeng, he mostly came here to hear more about their assistant manager.
He’d tried several times to get her attention, wanting to get to know her. At first, it was more out of concern for his dongsaeng. How could the company hire someone so young, someone barely older than TxT themselves, to help manage them? Now after seeing how good she was at her job, his curiosity turned to something more personal.
She was sweet but also a nonsense sorts. He had seen her easily turn from being TxT’s sweet and fun noona to their strict manager in a split second. In a way, she was perfect for the job. Over the past several months, he may have developed the slightest crush on her. But he was sure that it would never develop into anything. Especially considering the fact that she seemed to have absolutely no interest in him or any of the others. Not even when they had first met. She was polite and courteous, like she’d been in this job for decades, never letting on as to whether or not she was attracted to any of them, unlike most girls her age did. No, she was mature and Jungkook really liked that about her.
The boys continued to talk. But talk quick turned to play wrestling. And play wrestling quickly lost its gentleness. While it wasn’t necessarily a brawl with punches being thrown… well, let’s just say that there were going to bruises.
At one point, Jungkook stood up and started swinging Hueningkai around. At first the boys were having fun, but Jungkook had underestimated how light Hueningkai was, the boy jostling around a lot more than what he was used to, making him loose his grip in him. Hueningkai hit the ground. Hard.
As he hit the ground, the door opened, the assistant manager coming in. “I’m sorry. It took longer than I—“
Her eyes grew large, watching him hit the ground. He land on his shoulder, somehow bringing his arm up quickly enough to protect his head. He yelped in pain and she was immediately at his side. “Hueningkai!”
He groaned in pain, rolling onto his back. On her knees, she gently hushed him, helping him sit up. His bandmates were still utter shock as she checked on him, her voice laced heavily with concern. He was in pain, but nothing seemed broken and he wasn’t bleeding. The moment she was sure he was going to be alright, she turned her ire on Jungkook.
Standing up, she started marching towards him. The anger rolling off of her made him take a step back. She didn’t yell, instead in a low, calm voice, she said, “Get. Out.”
He hightailed it out of there. He had never seen her like that before— ready to kill. But what really made him hightail it out of there wasn’t necessarily her words, but the tears that started to prick at the corners of her eyes and the look of the concern from the boys.
He didn’t stop running until he found himself on the rooftop of the BigHit building. He was panting heavily, the sweat from running already starting to cool on his skin. Jungkook found a place to sit, the only image running through his mind was her face. He had never seen her like that. And honestly… he never wanted to see her like that again.
Jungkook wasn’t sure how long he’d been up there, but he stayed up there, staring at the cityscape until he got a text from Soobin, telling him that their assistant manager was looking for him. He sighed, knowing he’d have to face the music sooner or later. He got up from where he was sitting and made his way back downstairs, knowing he’d find her in the TxT meeting room.
He knocked almost hesitantly on the door, shyly muttering, “I-It’s me, Jungkook.”
A curt reply came, “Come in.”
Slowly he opened the door, peering inside. She was standing in the center, her arms across her chest. The scowl on her face indicated that she was still pissed at him, but nowhere near as badly as before. He stepped into the room, closing the door behind him. “How’s Hueningkai-ah?”
“Sprained shoulder, he’ll be limited on choreo for a while, but it’s at least not his leg. And you’re lucky that’s all that is.”
The venom in her voice was palpable. She left out a frustrated sigh then continued her voice raising higher and higher the longer she lectured him. “Let me ask you this, what the hell is wrong with you? They look up to you! You’re their hyung and they look up to you! You should be leading by example, like the other six. Instead of being the mature and professional hyung, you’re being a damn child. Don’t tell me you didn’t start that wrestling. I know my boys well enough to know when they’re lying to me about who started it, trying to take the blame for it.”
She scoffed before continuing. “Because… because I love my boys like own little brothers and can never say no to Hueningkai when he looks at me with those puppy eyes,” she looked up, shaking her head, “I agreed to whatever story they wanted to tell the head manager. According to them, you were never there.”
Jungkook was about to open his mouth to speak, he wasn’t sure what, but something. Immediately, she raised her hand, stopping him. “Because they saved your ass, you better not do something that stupid ever again. Even better, don’t come to their practices anymore. They’ve lost time because of you. They’re having to relearn pieces of the choreography to account for Hueningkai.” Her voice cracked, giving away just how upset she still was. “They have less than three days to make those changes because of you. You’ve messed this up for them. Don’t fuck this up for them anymore than you already have.”
Before he could choke out an apology, she shoved past him, leaving him behind to contemplate her words.
~^~^~^~
Jungkook was… off. Taehyung, Hoseok, and Yoongi thought was just nerves with the upcoming comeback, sure it was a couple of months away, but the pressure was still there. Namjoon, Jin, and Jimin on the other hand weren’t entirely sure why or how, but there was something on Jungkook’s mind. He was spacing more than usual, like something was preoccupying his thoughts. He wasn’t as jovial as he always was, missing perfect opportunities to poke fun at his hyungs, particularly Jimin and Jin. For weeks, he wouldn’t open up to gentle prying. When some of them (Jimin, Jungkook, Namjoon, and Jin) had a nice quiet night in of drinking, Jimin got him to drink a bit more than usual, getting him to open up.
Jimin asked, “Come on, you know you can talk to me, Kookie.”
“It’s just… she was so mad.”
This grabbed the other boys’ attention. “She,” inquired Namjoon.
Taking another shot of soju that Jimin had offered, Jungkook continued, “You know… the assistant manager for our dongsaeng. I… did something that made her hate me.”
Jin patted Jungkook on the back, “Aiiisshh! She doesn’t hate you.”
“Yes, she does! You didn’t her face. You didn’t see the tear—“
Jungkook cut himself short. He may have been drunk, but he wasn’t so out of it as to reveal everything. Namjoon eyed him, taking a sip from his beer before asking, “Have you tried apologizing for whatever you did?”
Jungkook looked Namjoon in the eye and could tell that if Namjoon didn’t already know what he did, he had a good guess. Jungkook sighed, “So many times. But every time she sees me, she turns away or ignores me.”
Namjoon then asked, “Have you apologized to Hueningkai and the others?”
Damn it, he knew. Swallowing, Jungkook replied after pondering, “N-No….”
“There’s your problem, Kookie. She cares more for her boys than she does for herself. You have to apologize to them first and make it up to them first before you even think of trying to approach her. I know it’s hard to apologize to someone younger than you, but you have to swallow your pride and just do it.”
Jungkook realized he was right. God, he hadn’t grown up at all and this just proved that. “I-I’ll do that, hyung.”
Namjoon smiled gently then nodded. Jin then piped in, “Hey, Jungkook-ah, why don’t you tell us more about what happened. Maybe we can help out. But first, we need snacks!”
Jin got up from his seat and went to the kitchen to grab some more food. Jungkook let out a laugh, finally feeling a bit better.
~^~^~^~
After talking to his hyungs about how he had pissed her off and why he’d always being in their practice room, he regretted it a bit, having opened himself up to the constant teasing.
It was after the initial meeting with the ballerinas that they were going to be working with did Jungkook have a chance to talk to his dongsaeng. They had just finished their practice, on their way to their lunch. He ran up to them and their faces lit up, obviously having missed him. “Hyung!”
He smiled when he stood in front of them. “Hueningkai-ah, hows your shoulder?”
Heungkai shrugged his shoulder, showing its range of motion. “All better thanks to Noona’s nursing.”
Taking a deep breath, Jungkook became serious. He bowed very deeply to his dongsaeng, which startled them a bit. “Hueningkai-ah, Soobin-ah, Taehyun-ah, Beomgyu-ah, Yeonjun-ah, I am very sorry for all of the trouble I’ve caused you. As your hyung, it was my responsibility to help you and to… guide you. Instead, I acted like a child like I do with my own hyung. That was wrong of me. And to you, Hueningkai-ah, I’m especially sorry for injuring you. I hope that you will some day forgive me.”
As Jungkook stood up again, the boys talked over each other, extremely flustered, trying to each tell him that it was alright and that there was nothing to forgive and so on. But he heard none of that. Instead, the world went quiet as he locked eyes with their assistant manager, not realizing that she heard everything as she leaned against the doorway. Her eyes were softer, no more anger, no more contempt. Instead they seemed... relieved.
Pushing off the doorway, she walked towards him, she gently nudged Soobin in the shoulder. “Come on, aren’t we suppose to be grabbing some lunch? If you keep standing around here, you’ll lose your precious time to eat before being back at it.”
The boys jumped in surprise, but nodded, as they said their farewells to their hyung, hunger getting the best of them before they ran off to make up for lost time. As she made her way past Jungkook, she whispered, “Thank you apologizing to them. It means a lot to them.”
She looked up at him with big eyes before walking off after her chaotic ‘children.’ Jungkook stood there, frozen to where he stood, not believing how easily she forgave him. He wanted to grab her hand. He wanted to ask her if it meant a lot to her. But he didn’t, his mind still reeling at not only how easily she forgave him but at how relief washed over him.
Before he realized it, his feet were already taking him to Namjoon’s studio. Without knocking, he burst into his hyung’s studio. “Hyung! You were right! Sh— Oh!”
He wasn’t expecting a guest. Sitting on the couch across from Namjoon, who sat at his desk, was the foreign analyst. She looked at him surprised, right in the middle of taking a bite from her sandwich. Shyly, Jungkook gave a greeting to her, still rather uncomfortable around her since she was so… odd.
Namjoon sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, a soda can hanging haphazardly from his other hand. “What is it, Jungkook-ah?”
Looking away from the unexpected guest, Jungkook looked at Namjoon, “Ah! I-I took your advice and apologized to them. And I didn’t realize it, but she was there too and she accepted my apology!”
“That’s great! Now, Jungkook, get out. We’re talking.”
“Ah, but—“
“Jungkook—“
“Namjoon-ssi, let him stay. He looks really distressed.”
They looked at the analyst as she put her sandwich down on her plate. “He clearly needs some support from his hyung.”
Jungkook had only spoken to her once before, since he didn’t know her age and he wasn’t entirely sure he remembered her name, he opted to address her via her title. “Thank you, 분석자-님 (boonseokja-nim).”
She smiled and patted the spot next to her for him. He bowed to her and politely took the seat next to her, feeling very shy and awkward. Namjoon sighed, shaking his head, obviously irritated with him. “So, Jungkook-ah. What do you want to talk about?”
“H-How do I apologize to (Y/N)? I don’t just want her to tolerate me. I-I want to be friends with her.”
The analyst piped in, “(Y/N)? TxT’s assistant manager?”
Namjoon nodded to her. “Oh! Why didn’t you say so, Jungkook-ssi. She and I go out for dinner all the time.”
Jungkook lit up, turning his completely attention to her. “Really?”
“Of course. Though, she is closer to their English teacher than she is to me because of how closely they work together. I’d go ask her for suggestions.”
Jungkook took her hand and squeezed it as he thanked her, earning a small glare from Namjoon. “Jungkook-ah, if you want to talk to their English teacher, I’d suggest talking to Jimin first. She’s kind of scared of everyone from what I’m told. So, talk to him first since they’re friends.”
“Thanks, hyung.” Jungkook stood up to leave. “Thank you again, 분석자-님 (boonseokja-nim).”
She smiled up at his as he left. The last sound he heard as the door closed was of Namjoon saying something under his breath and her giggles soon followed. Jungkook couldn’t help but think to himself that there was more to it than the ‘intellectual crush’ he led it to be.
~^~^~^~
It took a lot of goading but eventually Jimin gave in and asked his friend about the assistant manager. During their lunch break, Jimin disappeared only to return a few minutes later with a piece of paper. “Jungkook-ah. Here.”
Jimin shoved it into Jungkook’s hands, who thanked him profusely. Unfolding the piece of paper, he found a letter from TxT’s English teacher. In the letter, she explained the best way of going about getting on her good side. He smiled to himself.
~^~^~^~
A few days later, there was a knock on his studio door. Thinking nothing of it, shouted that it was open as he continued to work on his computer, thinking that it was one of his hyung. The sound of someone clearing their throat (a sound that almost seemed too dainty) got his attention. Looking over his shoulder, his eyes grew wide. He tripped over himself standing up from his desk, not expecting her to come to him.
She stood there kinda rigid, looking at the room shyly as she held the vase full of the flowers that the English teacher told him to get, hyacinths. The English teacher specified no specific color so he chose the ones he thought she’d like: purple and pink.
“P-Please, come in.”
She bowed slightly moving to take a seat across from him. Slowly he sat down, feeling extremely shy. She had totally caught him off guard. He thought he’d have to chase her down. Her voice startled him. “I, uh, read your letter.”
She pulled out a letter he had put in between the stems of the flowers. Jungkook gulped. He had spent a couple of days working on it, trying to figure out the best way to apologize for… well, everything. He apologized for all the times he’d distracted the boys, for the time he hurt Hueningkai, for trying to learn as much about her behind her back. He concluded his letter by telling her that he just wanted to be her friend.
“So, um,” She cleared her throat again, “you kept coming into bother me just because… you want to be my friend?”
He nodded, not really trusting his voice. Jungkook wanted to start as friends, too scared to let whatever attraction he felt towards her mess up their work relationship. He had least put in enough thought to know what he wanted. She then asked, “Why? You have your hyung and your dongsaeng. Why do you want to be friends with me? I doubt I’m anywhere near as interesting as any other idol.”
There was doubt in her voice. It finally struck Jungkook as to why she was so cold towards him: she didn’t want to get hurt. He scoffed, “As if. Someone as young as you working as a trusted assistant manager to those hellions has be to interesting, especially if you’ve worked you way up from being an intern. Not to mention,” he leaned in closer, “when you’re not yelling at me, I feel… comfortable around you.”
A light blush creeped up her cheeks. She let out an airy laugh. “Ha. She was right. You’re like a puppy.”
Jungkook made a face, feeling playful. “I’m not a dog, I’m a rabbit.”
He then made his signature rabbit face, making her laugh. “I suppose you are. My mistake.”
Still giggling, she stood up and he followed suit. “I have to go, still so much paperwork to be done.”
“Um…”
“Yes?”
She tilted her head, looking at him with big eyes. He couldn’t help but swallow the sudden lump in his throat. “Do you mind if I stopped by to hang out sometime?”
Smiling, she replied, “Of course. But,” she waggled her figure accusingly at him, “not when my boys are practicing. They have the attention spans of gnats and it takes forever to get them back on the task at hand.”
Jungkook laughed, walking her to the door. “Yes, of course. I’ll only come when you’re busy.”
She gave him a small playful glare in warning, which quickly turned into a smirk. Jungkook opened the door for her and just as he was about to bid her goodbye, she shocked him by standing on tiptoes, placing a kiss on his cheek. “Thank you for the flowers, Jungkook-nim. They’re my favorite.”
Jungkook stood there, still in shock as she wandered off, getting back to her work at hand. Once he had finally come back to his senses, he placed a hand over his cheek where she kissed him. She was just as rash and as playful as he was.

ahh hello my angels !! so i’ve been eyeing this group for quite a bit, and i couldn’t resist so here i am ! i’m jada, and this is my first child here - na chunja ! she’s the lead vocal & maknae of primera, and an overall handful ! some of her friends call her ambitious, confident, and versatile, but those of less favorable opinions say she’s vein, manipulative, & stubborn ! i’ll leave that up for you to decide, though. if you want to know more about her, click here for her profile. truth be told i’m a bit unprepared so that’s all i have for now, but if you’d look under the cut there’s some wanted connections & info !
from seoul, south korea !! gangnam specifically.
she’s always lived comfortably, not chaebol level or anything, but she’s in the upper middle class & has never really struggled, per se ?
originally had dreams to be a cosmetologist, but and eventually create her own makeup line ! beauty’s always been super important to her & she wanted to get into the field.
all that being said, being an idol has never really been everything for her ?? she had alternate career paths, stable income, all that. so that’s where her entitled mindset comes from ! but let’s back up for a minute, back to predebut chunja !
was a lot more naive & bubbly back in the day ! she never imagined she’d get anywhere near the fame she has now, always that she’d just be “the girl who could sing” to her classmates once they’d graduated and that was that.
but while out shopping with some friends at 16, she was street scouted and asked to audition for so!ar entertainment !! was super ecstatic but confused because like - why did her goofing off with friends scream “idol material ??”
it was only after auditioning that she realized it must have been based on visuals, because while she was confident in her abilities, she saw toooons of other auditions better than hers who didn’t get picked since they didn’t fit the “idol mold”. this was the start of her hate for the industry lmao !
trainee life is what really started reaching her toward the person she is now though ! going into it she was very optimistic, friendly to everyone, & just excited, but she soon learned that training was a dog eat dog type of thing ! to go up, you had to be a little ruthless, and that’s just what she did, started getting more and more competitive.
and then debut came !! she hadn’t been expecting to primera to get anywhere as big as they did. in all honesty, she’d expected to flop like the groups before them had ! once she realized that wasn’t the case though, she started getting veery comfortable in the spotlight.
quickly developed the spoiled princess mindset !! being the maknae of the nation’s girl group, she got used to all the doting & became very vein
while she’s always loved the baby image, a part of her wants to step out of it and be taken more seriously as an artist nowadays !!
she’s also been in the industry for a whole, so she’s seen all the ins and outs, including how corrupt it can be ! honestly she’s so tired of the sexualizing, favoritism, crazy rules, and pointless scandals ! it was exciting when she was younger, but she’s getting to be a true adult now and simply doesn’t have the time for any of it. even amongst primera, she’s aware a lot of groups like impulse didn’t get the shine they deserve because of public favoritism towards primera and she just doesn’t think it’s okay at all !
also she doesn’t like the fact that there’s so much emphasis on visage in the industry, especially since lots of idols seem to be deemed talentless visuals & she just feels like hard work is far more important ! essentially she’s like yes i’m pretty but that’s not that important
and that brings me to my next point - remember i said being an idol wasn’t everthing to her ?? well that still applies ! at this point she’s basically like “you can’t hurt me” & doesn’t take company threats too seriously so she doesn’t have a problem speaking up on things as best she can within contract binds !
actually, she’s been more and more interested in going solo, especially when news about sora leaving broke out. as she’s grown to be more independent, she’s become more interested in more meaningful music & wants to perform things personal to her, and honestly is just tired of the same pop love songs.
alternately, she really just wants to live a normal life nowadays, but that isn’t feasible at all. if she settled down somewhere & tried going to cosmetology school, she knows dispatch would still be watching her everywhere she goes and things can’t quite ever be the same, which is why she’s so frustrated !
buuut she’s also scared of being a flop so !! hasn’t !!
anyway she has two major nicknames among fans - baby empress, because she’s soft in the face but has powerful & commanding vocals ! and cheonsa chunja, which basically translates to angelic chunja because of her gentle features !
as primera’s grown to be the most senior group relevant on the market, she worries they’re moving towards obscurity and soon will lose fan’s interest. she’s spent a decade of her life having fame handed to her on a silver platter,  and isn’t quite sure how to handle things when that’s no longer the case.
in terms of personality, she’s kind of turned into a humblebragger, and just lets fame get to her head !! she knows what she wants & gets very upset when it’s not given to her, and simply wants things her way !! baby star syndrome everyone
also very confident & a little cocky !! it transfers well on stage because stage presence is what she’s best at, yet offstage it can be a little offputting !! like dear god if your muse comes up to her looking for some advice or something she will go into a whole rant about how they paved the way she’s the main reason why i-
bold !! very bold, and unapologetic. she’s romantic, likes to drink, party, all that, and isn’t afraid to say any of it !! also a confident bisexual yet is constantly screaming her affections for girls !!
along with that - she’s not very good with commitment but !! if she likes you, she will do anything to get you, and that’s just that !
there’s two sides of her - the one she has around people way younger than her, where she’s a little nurturing and puts on the “all-knowing sunbae” facade !! but those around her age / older who’ve known her for a while get the goofier, more transparent side, more like how she was back in the day !
she can do the primera choreography fairly well, but never ask her to do anything outside of it !! she’ll just fail horribly. thank god her charisma is here to save her !!
but she does claim she’s the best rapper out of the vocalist and while i don’t believe it ?? she refuses to take no for an answer !
totally irrelevant but she’s got a black pomeranian, theo, who is her true son !! she doesn’t stop posting or talking about him !!
this is just getting ... way too long ?? i expected it but didn’t want it to happen ! sigh, anyways onto the wanted connections !!
wanted connections !!
give her a bitter exes plot please ?? she’s very vengeful & jealous, so maybe that could somehow transfer and give us something interesting !
childhood / best friends ! someone she’s really genuine around & they know everything there is to know about each other !
enemies / competition, a vocalist who’s equally cocky as chunja ! maybe they get compared a lot which created this tension ?
give her one of the younger idols / trainees to be initially annoyed by but begins to adore & want to baby !!
someone co-parent theo with her lmao !! he needs more love !!
classic drinking buddies !!
honestly she needs that one partner in crime who just shit talks the industry with her 24 / 7 PLEASE give this to me !!
i’ll think of more soon, she’s getting an official plots page in a bit anyways so !!

Bitter & Sweet (Pt. 3)
Tumblr media
Summary: Loosely based on the song “Idols can’t go on for 10 years, right?” by Berryz Koubou. The reader is a foreigner who’s grown up in South Korea since early childhood, upon her mother marrying a Korean man. In her adolescent years, she’s scouted by someone working for a big company and encouraged to audition. Deciding to do it for fun, the reader takes a leap and goes through with the audition. She didn’t really plan to actually get in and go on a 10+ year journey.
Part 1. Part 2.
Tumblr media
( 2015, 7 years after debut. )
“We’re going to pick about three or four trainees from the audition.”
The mood was grim as your manager announced those words, standing up while all of Ultra Smart sat at the table within the meeting room. All except Sunhee, who officially left just the day before. No concert or anything in celebration, Nothing but a departing post to Poindexters, the fandom, from the group’s blog.
Ever since the interview, it was announced that she would be leaving due to ‘personal reasons’, which many fans worriedly assumed was some sort of health problem. Nothing was clarified by the company. Eventually, it would come to light that she was getting married.
Nara and Doyeon were the most quiet about the news. Nara was always a quiet girl, who contemplated things in the same mild manner. Her brows were downturned and harsh, eyes unable to look at anything but the cold surface of the table. Doyeon had her head in one hand, fingers gripped in the long, black, strands of her hair. Everything in her position screamed unhappiness and disappointment.
That’s what all of the girls currently felt they were. Disappointments. Even if only a few of them would let it show.
Were they not enough to keep the group going? With Sunhee gone and Yoora leaving, couldn’t Ultra Smart continue as six? Now, they were growing to possibly ten members. Even at debut, the public would ask wasn’t eight too many? They got accused of copying their sunbaes, Girls Generation, for being too close to nine. Six should’ve been satisfactory, but the girls knew it wasn’t truly about numbers.
"The company still wants you as the flagship group, at least.” The manager, Wonbin, tried to console. Replacing the old manager, he had only been looking after Ultra Smart for the last four years. Still, everyone was familiar with him as he’d worked for the company for longer. He was more empathetic than the last manager, trying to make the members as happy as he fairly could from his position. “A lot of groups who lose so many members get left behind, but you still have a large following. So, the company is willing to give you another chance.”
“I’m sorry, everyone.” Yoora felt the need to apologize, playing a part in why the group was going through so many changes.
You shook your head, placing a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t apologize, we understand. Really.” You didn’t want her to go, but the woman was tired -- emotionally and physically. Anyone would be tired of working such a rigorous career after seven years, eight including the trainee days. Seven years was the usual ‘curse’ for girl groups in Kpop, but you would rather only one or two members break off than the whole group. You loved Ultra Smart too much.
“It’s only expected.” Mali tried to console the leader as well, seemingly faring a bit better than everyone else. The smile on her face was weak, but meaningful as it was directed towards Yoora. “If you didn’t leave, I’m sure someone else probably would. We can’t stay together forever.”
You nodded, although everyone left was pretty adamant that they were going to be in the group for a while. At least, hopefully. “We’ll be alright.” You said for both yourself and Yoora, hand leaving her shoulder to clutch together in your lap. “Especially since you and I will attend the auditions, we’ll have a say in who comes into the group. That’s the brightside of all this.”
Yoora just smiled softly, leaning up straighter to place her own hand over yours. “And, you’ll be a great leader. I know it.” She said, no doubt sensing your apprehension.
Jiang Ai, who had been more neutral about the news, clapped her hands together. “Yeah, we have faith in you!” She announced, lifting the somber mood in the room. Everything about the young woman was a vitamin, even when her twin wasn’t catching onto their ‘twin vibes’. In fact, Jiang Yi was in the same boat as Nara and Doyeon; distraught over the group she knew and loved slowly breaking off.
“Yah!” Jiang Ai tried to whip her twin into shape, tapping on her arm. “Cheer up, will you? You heard oppa, we’re not breaking up. We’re getting another chance! This is good!”
In response, Jiang Yi moved from her leaning position in the chair to sitting up straighter. Her expression was still dejected, however. It was an unsaid understanding between all the foreign members that this audition was partly their fault. Like the manager said sometime ago, Ultra Smart couldn’t go on with only two Korean members. Jiang Yi felt a certain type of way about that, but kept her mouth shut on the matter. At least, in front of their manager. “Okay, I get it. Stop hitting me.” The young woman said, crossing her arms.
A tentative look crossed Wonbin’s face, eyes meeting your own uneasy ones. “Perhaps...We’re still trying to gauge the public’s reception of Y/N having leadership over the group. It’s ultimately the CEO’s decision, not mine.” The good vibes that Jiang Ai tried to lift up suddenly popped like a bubble, stone cold silence filling the air once again.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Yoora trying to get a feeling of your reaction. As if she thought you were going to take it badly; cry or throw a tantrum like you would’ve in the old days. But, no tears or harsh words came.
“We’ll see.” Was all you said in response, before continuing on.
“Let’s take this one day at a time.”
Tumblr media
( 2007, 6 months before debut )
“I can’t do anything right!”
Tears flowed down your cheeks as you sobbed in the bathroom, Yoora’s small hand rubbing your back. It was just a few minutes after dance practice ended and you ran out of the room, upset that the moves didn’t come as easy to you as everyone else. The dance instructor was hardly understanding, giving backhanded comments here and there about how you weren’t trying hard enough.
“I was trying my best!” You brought a hand to your face, hating to see your own upset face in the mirror. How many times have you cried since beginning training? You couldn’t keep count anymore. Never before had anyone pointed out so many flaws about you before. First, you were too chubby. Second, you couldn’t sing as well as the other trainees. Third, you ate too much. Now, it was this. The instructor always had something to say about your dance skills, putting you in the back with the ‘easiest’ moves even. Your body was stiff, you couldn’t remember the smallest things, everything was picked at until you couldn’t take it anymore.
You almost wanted to quit.
Yoora turned to get a tissue before handing it over, her usually stoic face now sympathetic. “All you can do is keep practicing until you get it right, some people just aren’t natural dancers,” She started. “But, that doesn’t mean you can’t ever become a good dancer. It’s the same with singing.”
You wanted to take her words to heart, you really did. It was good advice. However, the small, green, monster within you was already jealous that everything came ‘naturally’ to her. Yoora was already a decent singer and dancer. She got her fair share of harsh criticism, but also a good portion of praise as well. You were lucky to go a day without anyone ridiculing you.
“Yeah...” You weakly agreed, not truly thinking the same.
“It’s not too late to back out, you know.” Yoora offered. “The company will let you leave before the group is officially announced. If you think this is too much...”
You swiftly cut her off. “No!” Mind immediately going to all of the other girls you’d been paired with, you wanted to stay with them. It wasn’t even that all of you were close yet, because you weren’t. But, you wanted to be. People could call you idealistic all they wanted, but the idea of being in a group -- part of team -- with other people appealed to you.
You wanted to go through this with them, no matter how hard you had to work.
Maybe you were young and dumb to equate a group of co-workers to possible friends, but that’s what you wanted to get out of your time in the company. That’s what was keeping you afloat all this time; talking with Yoora and the other girls and forming some sort of bond. Especially after you lost what little friends you had after moving schools. At least, you couldn’t see your friends as much anymore.
“I'm not going to leave, I just need more time to get better.” You promised, more to yourself than the other girl. Your cheeks were dry now, a hand holding the tissue to your sniffling nose. In your mind, you weren’t thinking about how good Yoora was at everything or how you were at everything. Now, you were just envisioning a close-knit group; a group that you could look forward to being a part of. A group that would make all of this emotional pain and these physical aches worth it.
“Y/N?” A head poked into the bathroom, revealing the curious face of Aina. “Are you okay? Or, uh...” Seeing your puffy face, she realized the answer to her own question and came inside. “The instructor was just trying to push you to be the best you can be, don’t take what they said to heart. It’s okay.” Just a month older than you, that didn’t stop Aina from being the mother hen she was born to be.
Not wanting anymore people to see you upset, you shook your head. “I’m alright now,” You tried to add some cheer to your voice, but the unfazed expression of both girls signaled that it wasn’t working. Or, they saw right through it. You just waved a hand and headed for the door, wanting to leave behind all the negative feelings. “Come on, let’s go get something to eat or be anywhere but this bathroom.” A smile crossed your face, somewhat genuine.
“We’re on a diet though.” Yoora reminded you.
“Who cares?” You laughed off.
The older girl rolled her eyes, following behind you with Aina. “See?? It’s this attitude that gets you in trouble!”
Aina shook her head, joining you in laughter as the three of you walked out together.
Hopefully, You thought to yourself. My tears are worth it in the end.
