Ahsoka doesn’t leave the Jedi Order. This does not save Anakin. This was never going to save Anakin.

Nor stop him.

She felt relief sweep through her. Of course Anakin had come running back to the Temple the moment he’d sensed something wrong. If anyone could save the day, it would be him.

“Master!” she said, all her relief and joy at knowing he was alright suffusing the word. She started towards him, but Whie caught her arm without even looking at her, his eyes never straying from Anakin. Whie’s expression was one of recognition, of one who had just seen all the pieces fit into place, and finally reached understanding that had long been elusive.

And in the Force, he felt so much like the soldiers Ahsoka had seen that had known that the medics would not be able to save them, that she immediately started looking for the wound.

But he had no injury that she could see or sense.

“Ahsoka. I’ll give you a chance,” Anakin said. “Turn away from this insurrection, and the Chancellor will be lenient.”

uh oh, I haven't thought about him a lot (yet)

the first thing that goes through my head when i see him is 'damn he looks like a rich kid' and lo and behold, what do i read in his wookie article?

anyways, idk why, but he looks like a guy who'd appreciate really badly written romance novels. no, it doesn't matter that 'thirteen is too young to be reading such filth', he just thinks its hilarious. Especially if there are jedi characters in it.

(his biggest character flaw is that he has an older padawan sneak him the novels from the archives after he got caught borrowing stuff over his age category one too many times)

the thing about listening to the Yoda: Dark Rendezvous audiobook is that. well. when Whie Malreaux was introduced I thought the book switched POVs from 3rd person to the oddest one possible. I thought they said "We had nightmares" and no we don't. It's just this guy named Whie. not us. every time they say he does something I am at least a little confused. I didn't do that shit.

The Padawan's Purpose remains one of my favourite older oneshots. Thanks for asking about it!

8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

Not in particular, but I recall deciding to write the oneshot after rewatching ROTS yet again. I realised that the Order 66 scenes didn't give us a close up of the battle within the corridors; we see Cin Drallig and his senior students' sacrifice, we see the younglings hiding in the Council chamber, we see the battle raging in the blue-carpeted entranceway to the Temple; but we don't see the tiny, desperate battles.

Most of the masters were Generals. The senior padawans were all in the Outer Rim.

That left the junior padawans.

I wanted to portray what made the Jedi the Jedi - courage, goodness, and faith in the Force despite the inevitability of circumstance. This young, junior padawan realises his entire life - years of training, all the grief and happiness - is for the express purpose of getting those younglings away from Anakin Skywalker. And he's okay with it. It is the untold story of a young Jedi who in that moment became the very epitome of what the Jedi were.

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

Oh, I remember just looping the order 66 music. Specifically the section that starts when Obi-Wan hits the water on Utapau. Where the music suddenly slows and washes in grief after the sharp percussion of battle.

Thinking about rainy days on coruscant.

When Cin Drallig changes his classes just so that the padawans and initiates start getting used to fighting in the rain.

(But everyone knows it’s an excuse for him to just go and stand in the rain too)

When Plo Koon can’t help but keep all his windows open just to hear the noise as he reads.

(Even though he knows everything’s going to get wet)

When Kit Fisto cancels his plans to just go and sit in the rain and enjoy the feeling of it on his skin.

(A few Jedi get on him for not wearing his robes correctly and being without a shirt but the other aquatics can’t blame him.)

When the Crechemasters take the children to the upper landing and gardens to play in the rain.

(It’s healthy for them, they say. And the children just love splashing around in it too.)

When Mace finds himself dozing off at his desk because of the rhythm against his windows.

(And it’s not like he doesn’t need sleep anyways. Depa and Caleb always grab a blanket and let him sleep when they find him like that.)

When Ahsoka can’t help but join Bene and Fukuhara and Whie and Scout and Barris and Caleb and Cal in one of the little gathering rooms, all of the padawans sitting contently, watching a holofilm and drinking tea or hot cocoa and nestles close.

(They rarely get to do so anymore with the war. Besides, it’s warm and cozy together and so what if Caleb’s feet are cold and Cal pushes him away because of it. They’re all together and safe.)

When Vokara settles down with a mug of tea in hand and just watches the rain.

(There’s nothing pressing, she can take some time off and just relax)

When the Clones take their helmets up and look up at the skies because it’s different from the rains on Kamino.

(There’s no worry of slipping and falling into the sea, no sound of the waves, just the sound of children laughing from the Temple and the general hub of Coruscant.)

Random Fact of the Day Day 5 (Star Wars)-

During the raid on the Jedi Temple by Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Anakin confirmedly killed not only the younglings but the Jedi standing guard outside (who thought he was a friend), Shaak Ti (whom he stabbed through the back), Cin Drallig (the Jedi Battlemaster and one of the most powerful Jedi Masters in the Temple), and two of his trainees (Bene and Whie Malreaux).

Darth Vader also sent out a broadcast informing all Jedi to return to the Temple to set a trap for them.

Canon/Legends: Canon

BONUS: George Lucas has said that he purposely made the “Master Skywalker, there are too many of them” youngling look like young Anakin to symbolize Darth Vader killing Anakin Skywalker.
