I drew art! Guys I did the thing. Well- I’m in the ever perpetual process of doing the thing but uhhhh,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s Mercury and Octavian :3. I’ve affectionately started calling them the Gaea duo and it was a little unintentional to make them together but uhhhh. Yeah! Soon I’ll get maybe Michael and Dakota done, we’ll see. I also have a little comic panel piece for a SoN scene in the works but hhhhhhh-
Also the Octavian one is… probably gonna be re-worked? I like having these pictures as a way to reference my designs for the characters (the Larry one I drew way back when is great). But I’m still working out how I want Octavian to Octavian so uh- yeah. Maybe his siblings will get something one day, like names.
Also tomorrow marks the day I’m forcing myself to sit down and read through the Dark prophecy (as much as I can get through, hopefully all of it because I know I can finish that book in a day *I did it with SoN and tLT to what’s one more?*) and that means Lit stuff.
I love the silly goofy goober. Also maybe Oracle things? The setup for things like Dadonna was interesting and maybe possibly I’ll try my hand at our villains for this arc (I don’t know but ToA Nero has a HOLD on me. Purely just for how silly goofy in the worst way but he like ahfoaksnejak- so excited to see Caligula and Commodus :3)
Or I’ll give up everything and then there will be probably Harley something. Or stuff about the Augurculanum because Octavian so deserved to have one and it’s so weird that he didn’t like omg-

kk finished the hidden oracle and i would just like to say that anyone who says apollo/lester is an annoying narrator clearly doesnt understand humor and/or character complexity because he is such an interesting character and an entertaining storyteller and yall need to start appreciating that
cause the way his character starts turning as soon as he is shown a little of human kindness, dont even get me started to on him going absolutely insane when kayla and austin disappear
he is constantly saying that he feels sixteen so he feels himself being surrounded by peers and not people that are much younger than him, but the way he constantly takes a paternal role with the kids when they need him. his children, meg, harley, rachel in some way, the other demeter kids even
anyway, i’ll reread the dark prophecy later because i just got my chalice of the gods copy and i need to get into that but read toa guys read toa

Going to say something that May piss off people…
But the book was not worth the hype., like at all…
I did not find it super dark or scary (and I don’t know if that’s cause I am much older than I was while I read House of Hades)
Nico wasn’t BAMF enough.. neither was Will… like I just feel that Percy in HoH was kickass, and Nico had so much more potential to show new powers
It was a lot of “let’s talk about relationship issues” kind of book. But honestly fell flat
* vague spoilers*
The prophecy was useless and the way it resolved was stupid
The part where Nico meets Hades (and the others) was very random … like not canon compliant ..
No mention of any characters, no capture the flag, no showing how the rest of camp now react to Nico, was very weird…. All that makes the books fun!!
I dont even understand Will’s character. I know there was some growth.. but still. Why didn’t he fight? I get the “caring” trope.. but not to the extent it’s boring
Nico’s character about him doing anything for his friends and always being kind to everyone was great though!
But everything said. The first time I read the book, I was excited, I wanted to see a Nico book, see Nico happy, see someone grow to care for him. See him find someone to love. See that he has freinds, and family who loves him. Literally not one person who has met him has a bad thing to say about him.
So from that perspective I loved reading the book. Yes a lot of things were lame. But I only care about Nico, and for that I enjoyed the book.
If I don’t go too deep into the flaws, I enjoyed it, and I would re read parts and I would fill in a few things (Such as other characters) in my head
I would say I get why Will is so scared and whiny all the time. This is literally like his first major quest… in the battle of manhattan it was the whole camp. In ToA, he didn’t do that much fighting, just healing. Here he was completely out of his element, and nervous. Like anyone else would be (who aren’t like the 7)
But he does grow. And by end he has changed. This new Will fits more with I thought Will would be

Was writing up a different thing but my thoughts kept stalling so I'm twisting it. I've seen posts before about how Demeter's children logically should've been part of the prophecy and child ban in PJO because she is also one of the eldest gods. And yeah, that's still true, Rick should've altered the wording or maybe made it more clear that "gods" in that context was specifically refering to god as a male term, but whatever.
Anyway, it got me thinking about her children. I never read TOA and don't intend to and I think? One of her kids is a major player in that one, but whatever. This is ignoring TOA because I don't have context (and I don't want to).
We know the Big Three are overtly powerful. We don't see much of Thalia's raw power (or Jason's really, but I already have my own separate thoughts on that), but ultimately we know that they are closer to the gods than other demigods. And I was thinking about Demeter's kids would factor into that and I realized.
Ah. They can't.
See: Zeus is god of the the sky, right? And the sky is often equated with air. Air is everywhere: the ocean, the earth, the sky, underground, everywhere. The only place there is no air is in a vacuum, and that's irrelevant because a vacuum has nothing in it, so no one would have power there and it's pointless to bring it up.
Anyway, Jason and Thalia might be slightly diminished in certain places, but ultimately their power can't die. Even underwater, there will be some kind of air they could manipulate if they just try. And, as I've mentioned elsewhere, lightning is just electricity. Electricity exists in the body in the form of our nervous system. If you look it up, you'll find that technically all biological cells are electrical. So plants, people, animals. Fucking computers too, probably, at this point, why the fuck not. Just sap all forms of electrical energy as a power-up.
Basically even the most basic form of their powers exists everywhere in nature: sky/air and lightning. And they can manipulate that however they choose.
Similarly, Hades, who is often equated with death (even though that's Thantos's business), exists everywhere as well. Death touches everything. It lingers. Darkness too. No matter what, the sun will always set and the dark will prevail. I mean darkness prevails regardless. If you walk into a room with no windows, there isn't light. You have to make that, you have to add it.
And when you factor in my theory that as god of the Underworld, Hades has a touch of specialty regarding the gods/spirits/etc who live in his domain, well you've added in even more for him to reach out to: sleep, dreams, rest and relaxation, and more probably my brain is stalling again.
But anyway, those things exist everywhere. They touch everything. So power is absolute - except maybe the sky. I don't think ghosts can linger in the sky. If you die, you fall to the ground. Even on planes, a corpse will eventually land. But it still graces the sky. A shot bird still dies in the clouds before it is touches the ground. So there's range there, and that's Nico and Hazel.
Poseidon in the ocean, yes, but people still equate him to all forms of water - and maybe that's more a modern thing these days, but I don't doubt that people way back when probably did too, maybe at a lesser degree because they were aware of other water-type gods for specific things and unless you've immersed yourself in Greek mythology/Hellenistic polytheism, you probably aren't and even then you might just default to the big guy anyway BUT I DIGRESS.
Water is everywhere. It is vapour in the air we breathe. Sits in our veins, our bodies. It soaks into the ground, nourishes the plants, drips from cave walls and sloshes in underground rivers. Everywhere, everywhere, everywhere. Even a desert, as dry as it might be, has to have water somewhere. Even if you have to claw your way into the sky and clouds and drag it down into a torrential pour of rain, there is water somewhere.
So there we go with Percy.
Then Demeter.
Earth is not part of the sky. Earth is not part of the ocean. It is part of the underground. But limited in spaces. It is a powerful thing to be reckoned with and I don't doubt that her demigod kids are more powerful than your standard demigod, but there is a difference. The earth cannot follow Jason into the sky, it will fall. The earth cannot follow Percy into the ocean, it will muddy and dissolve. The earth can follow Nico underground but he can combat it head on if he wanted to.
The earth is powerful and stubborn. But it is limited.
Not to mention, Demeter, while regarded as an earth goddess, is not technically the earth goddess - that's Gaea. Demeter is the harvest and agriculture, grain and crops. And as we know, some places, even surrounded by dirt and grass and trees, cannot create a functional harvest. You have to actively put in work to create a functional farm, to grow.
The other three will always exist no matter what. There is no active work into creating their domain. The ocean and water will always flow. Air will always be breathed. People and animals and plants will always die.
I think this would also fall for the other two, if they were to ever have demigod children. Hestia is the hearth and warmth. That has to be created. Hera is marriage and family. That has to be created.
So Demeter's children are probably pretty powerful. But not as powerful as their cousins. Because her domain is crafted out of creation, but the boys' domains exist regardless.

Can we please know the other projects you work on, like about what and the characters, I know you gave a sneak peak in one of them is Apollo and Percy are as the same as they Will name a city after us, I'm just a curious person and In love with your writing.
The fic I'm planning on posting soon takes place in between the books and after ToA. I lovingly call it the anti-they'll name a city after us, because it's Apollo and Percy thriving together in a good, healthy way. Which is why ToA is needed, because there needs to be some growth on Apollo's part first lmao. It does have a darkness and a lot of angst, but it's really kind in its core and I want to have a hopeful vibe running throughout. Basically, it's Apollo taking notice of Percy first because she might be the child of the Prophecy and them forming a secret relationship in the midst of the war. Some of the tags will include mutual pinning and Good Parent Apollo 👀

Eclipse: Chapter 3
Fandom: Trials of Apollo Rating: Teen Genre: Family/Adventure Characters: Apollo, Hades, Nico di Angelo, Will Solace Here's our second narrator for the story! Hades and Apollo will alternate every two chapters, and yes in the spirit of TOA, every one of Apollo's chapter titles will be (probably bad) haikus. There have been a few guesses regarding what's going to happen here, and for those of you for whom "Monopoly" means something - sorry, you were wrong! <<Chapter 2
APOLLO III
An oath on the Styx Again: You shall not go there Forgive me, my son
The sight of his son so disoriented from something as simple as shadow travel cemented any trailing resolves Apollo might have had about taking his son’s place in Tartarus.  He was terrified at the idea of going back down there, especially considering the last time he’d been down there, but he knew that it was the right decision.
Will was too bright, too kind, too everything that Tartarus was the antithesis of, and if even a short trip to the Underworld was enough to disrupt him, albeit briefly, then Tartarus would destroy him.
Still, he had to admire his son’s bravery as he pulled himself to his feet, flanking Nico determinedly, and stared down the two gods before them.
“We have to go.”  At least Nico didn’t try and lie to his father, although Apollo caught the glare the son of Hades sent his way.  The silent accusation of being a tattle tale was blunt, but Apollo was entirely unapologetic about it as he sent a sunny grin back at the demigods.  Will’s own look, less a glare, but still along the veins of a betrayed why, cut a little deeper, but he kept his smile up.
If it kept his son alive, he refused to have any regrets.
“I expressly forbade you,” Hades reminded his son, his taller stature – because Apollo preferred the young adult look while Hades liked to be thin and imposing, and for no other reason – looming like the shadows he inhabited.  “I do not care what your reasons are, I will not be disobeyed.”
“Lord Hades.”  Apollo was not surprised that Will decided to speak up in defence of his son, but he did wish he hadn’t; his safety, although admittedly the demigod didn’t yet know it, was entirely in the hands of the god he was addressing, and causing offence would be fatal.  “We’re not going there out of choice.  A prophecy-”
“Prophecies are not a clear cut command, son of Apollo,” Hades dismissed him.  “Even if my son fails to recognise that, I would expect better from you.”
“It was spoken to us,” Nico complained.  “Apollo was there.”  Those dark eyes, inherited from his father although missing the flames of the gods, fixed him with a pointed look.  “Did he tell you that?”
Technically Apollo hadn’t, but he didn’t think Hades would mind that he’d neglected to mention that little titbit of information when he’d given him the far more important fact that it had been directed at their sons.
The dismissive hand wave of his uncle suggested he didn’t mind.  “Irrelevant,” Hades said firmly.  “You were intending on disobeying me, and that I will not stand for.  The troglodytes are not to be trusted, and I am insulted that you thought you could hide your dealings with them from me.”
Pale skin blanched directly to white, Hades’ son clearly not ignorant to his father’s moods, although it didn’t stop him arguing back.  “You didn’t leave me with a choice!”
The palace darkened further, until the only lights were those emitting from himself and his son.  “Your choice would have been to obey me and ignore the denizen of the Pit attempting to lure you in and use you to escape,” Hades told him pointedly.  “Then the prophecy may never have been spoken at all.”
Technically prophecies didn’t work like that, and Apollo couldn’t help shifting his weight where he stood, although he refrained from interrupting his uncle for the moment.  He really needed stay on Hades’ good side until this was all over and Will’s safety no longer depended on the Lord of the Underworld’s good wishes.  Hades did not often have those.
“Well it has,” Nico retorted, somewhat petulantly, and Apollo was starting to find himself wishing to shut the demigod up for his own safety; Hades’ temper was vicious, like most gods’, and quite frankly it was disturbing that he was permitting his son to speak to him like that.  “We don’t have a choice, now, so are you going to help us or make things even worse?”
“Any help would be very gratefully received, Lord Hades, Dad,” Will interjected, grabbing his boyfriend by the scruff of his neck and forcing him to bow while doing so himself.  Apollo couldn’t even be mad that he was addressed second when he supposed he seemed less likely to smite them for impertinence right then.
“Help?” Hades scoffed, but Apollo decided he’d been silent long enough; now his son was involved in the conversation, he was going to play his cards.
He stepped forwards, letting his light shine a little brighter and forcibly inserting himself as the centre of attention.  “I’m not here to help you, Will,” he said, and found the look of dismay that crossed his son’s face painful.  Despite what he’d said before, when the prophecy was first issued, it was obvious that Will had been harbouring hope that he’d changed his mind, and seeing his son’s faith in him take a visible blow was painful.
“Dad?” he asked, in a voice that was small and weak and a little afraid.  It drove another metaphorical dagger into Apollo’s essence, but he reminded himself that Will just didn’t yet understand.
“I’m not here to help you because you are not going,” he clarified, crossing the rest of the distance to his son and shrinking with every step until he was only a little taller than Will.  His hands clasped his son’s shoulders tightly.
“You want me to abandon Nico-”
“The Pit will destroy you!”  He didn’t mean to flare up quite as brightly as he did, but he felt Will flinch beneath his grasp – a too-tight grasp that was imprinting bruises that had to be painful on the fragile mortal before him but Apollo couldn’t let go.  “If you go, you will not come back, and I will not let that happen, Will Solace.”
“Did you see that?” his son demanded, wriggling futilely against his grip, “or are you trying to scare me into abandoning Nico?”
“I am a god, Will,” he reminded him, a little harsher than he meant to.  “I do not try, I do.”  Not strictly true in every situation, but that was irrelevant right now.  “And I will swear, on the River Styx-”
“Dad, don’t you dare.  You broke enough-”
“-that for as long as it is in my power to prevent it,” because Apollo had learnt lessons about making promises that were impossible to keep, “you will not step foot inside Tartarus.”
The oath sealed with a crack of thunder, rolling around the palace with the deafening acoustics that could only come from making such a promise so close to the borders of the river itself, and Will’s face turned as pale as his boyfriend’s.
“Dad, no,” he pleaded, “you can’t do that.  You can’t make me stay behind.”
Apollo sighed and used his too-tight grip on his son to pull him into an embrace, wrapping his arms tightly around the fragile teenage body and resting his cheek on the blond waves Will had inherited from him.  “I can and I will,” he said firmly.  “I meant what I said; you are not going in there.  Lord Hades has agreed to house you here until the quest is complete,” he informed Will.  “We’ll have to do something about the lack of food fit for mortals, but you’ll be safe within the Underworld.”
“But Nico!” Will protested, still wriggling in a desperate attempt to get free, the pain in his voice making Apollo’s entire being ache.  “And the prophecy-” he added, clearly an afterthought but one a frantic one, as though he thought bringing Apollo’s own domain into the conversation would somehow change his mind.
Apollo shook his head and reluctantly released Will from his hold, embracing the pain as Will immediately grasped for Nico’s hand, both demigods going white-knuckled as they clutched each other tightly.  If only he could replace both of them, spare Nico the trauma as well and keep both demigods safe and out of Tartarus, but the prophecy was clear that one would not be enough.
Still, “I think I make a pretty good claim to sunshine,” he commented, trying for levity and hoping it didn’t sound quite as flat to his companions as it did to his own ears.
“But-” Nico interrupted, and Apollo turned to him with a raised eyebrow, “what about the Ancient Laws?  And, I can’t say I’m not happy Will’s going to be safe, but… no offence, Apollo, I don’t think you’d keep me as sane as Will would.”
Behind Apollo, Hades let out a dry laugh that had even his hair standing to attention, no doubt because Hades was still in his godly height and the sound affected those of human stature differently.  “You appear to be misunderstanding, my son,” the Lord of the Underworld said.  Apollo glanced over his shoulder to see his uncle approaching them, shrinking in size himself until the four of them were all, near enough, equal.
Hades was still a head above the rest of them, because of course he was.
“Have I not made it clear enough?” the older god demanded.  “Nico, my son, you are not returning to the Pit.”
Apollo frowned, a little confused and very disconcerted.  Two of them had to go down – if he replaced both of them, that really did break the prophecy; it was quite explicit that two were to descend to Tartarus, and no matter how amazing Apollo was, he still only counted as one.  Not that he wanted Nico down there in the slightest – if it was possible to spare Nico as well, he would have jumped on that loophole no matter how small, prying it open with his bare hands if he had to, but  there was only so much he could do about the darkness part of the prophecy, and Nico was the one of very few who would likely even count, let alone be willing, as much as anyone would be willing to go to Tartarus.  He was also the one that had intended to descend into Tartarus even before the prophecy was issued, to rescue the titan.
Apollo had no doubts that convincing Nico not to go into Tartarus for the sake of the titan would be a waste of breath – Will had not managed to convince him, and if he couldn’t, who could?
“You and your boyfriend will be remaining in my palace,” Hades continued.  “My brother cannot enter here.  As for the Ancient Laws…  There are loopholes.”
“Such as?” Will asked, rubbing at his shoulders and wincing.  Apollo reached out and brushed his own hands over the hidden bruising, trailing healing touches across them.  His son didn’t even glance his way in acknowledgement, focused instead on Hades and Nico in a way that screamed avoidance as much as respect for the older god, and Apollo suppressed a wince – it wasn’t like he didn’t deserve it.
“Those do not concern you,” Hades dismissed, which Apollo could immediately translate as we’re still working out how we’re going to talk ourselves out of trouble if we get caught – or at least, that was the stage he was at.  If Hades had already worked something out, that would be useful to know.  “What does concern you is that both of you will remain here, while your father and I investigate what necessitated this prophecy to be spoken in the first place.”
What?
Had Apollo heard that right?
No, he must have been mistaken.
But he was a god, he had perfect hearing.  He didn’t do mistaken.
But what could possibly have prompted Hades to decide that he, too, would take his son’s place on the quest?  It was a good thing – a really good thing – in that it meant Nico would also not be entering the Pit and would instead be safe and still with Will, but Apollo had never, ever, expected Hades volunteering to go in his stead, not even with all the foresight in Olympus.
“What?” Nico choked, unknowingly echoing Apollo’s carefully-hidden surprise.  He was glad for it, the son keeping his father’s attention firmly on him and buying Apollo time to make sure his own shock wasn’t evident on his face.  The demigods would never notice, especially as both of them were pointedly looking anywhere but him, but Hades might.
“I will not repeat myself,” Hades said firmly.  “Do not even think about attempting to make your own way to the Pit.”
“But-”
The shadows surged around them, flowing over Hades’ son, and when they receded the demigod was gone.
“Nico!”  Will stumbled forwards, almost falling over as his boyfriend’s hand disappeared from his own white-knuckled grip, before seeming to realise that he was alone in the presence of two gods and visibly collecting himself.  “Where is he?”
His voice didn’t even shake as he addressed Hades, and Apollo was torn between being proud and terrified.
“I sent him to his room,” the god replied, seemingly unconcerned by Will’s attitude, to Apollo’s private relief.  “He will stay there until I release him.”
“And… what about me?”  Given that Will was clearly upset with him, Apollo was slightly surprised – although relieved – when his son’s eyes flickered over to him, as though trying to reassure himself that Hades wouldn’t dare do anything to him while his father was there.
Hades would, but that was beside the point.
“What about you, indeed,” Hades mused.  “Apollo, how is your son going to survive his stay?  There is no mortal food in my palace.”
“I have food,” Will started, reaching for his pack, but the problem with mortal food in the Underworld was that it didn’t last.  Will might be able to eat for a day, but after that, it would all have perished and he’d be risking starving to death.
Apollo ignored his son’s words and found his eyes meeting Hades’, the fires of which were flickering in clear amusement.  Trust his uncle to be amused by his predicament – it was all his fault, anyway.  If Hades hadn’t decided, for some unknown and incredibly bizarre (and rather concerning; Apollo didn’t like it when his brethren behaved surprisingly) reason that he, too, was going to replace his son on the quest, then he could have subtly provided mortal food daily.  It was still much, much, better that Nico’s place was also being taken by a god, but it left Will’s survival in the Underworld rather less secure.
It was summer, and Persephone was enjoying the bright warmth of the sun with her mother for the next month or two, so she’d be no help, either – not that Apollo was quite sure he trusted the goddess with his son.  He didn’t really trust Hades with him, either, not really, but at least he had the leverage with Nico.  In terms of safety, both from the gods and from Tartarus, Hades also leaving the palace and Will remaining with Nico was the best possible scenario – but it still created the food situation.
“We don’t have all eternity,” Hades drawled.  “My brother will no doubt notice your absence soon, Apollo.”  Apollo knew that; he still had a sliver of himself in the sun chariot, attending to his primary duty and the one in his father’s immediate attention, which would stay there until the last possible moment – he was not so foolish as to think he could take on Tartarus at anything less than full power (and yet demigods kept ending up down there and almost-dying) – but the rest of him was collated into his current form, ignoring the rest of his duties.  His father would notice, and soon.
“Dad?”  Wide, blue eyes looked at him, uneasiness clear in their depths.  He couldn’t blame Will for being nervous in the face of Hades, and part of him twisted at the fact that, despite being upset with him, Will still looked to him for help.  He didn’t deserve his son’s faith at all.
“If you don’t do something now, I will,” the other god promised.  “Don’t waste my time.”  It wasn’t even a threat; Apollo could see his raising hand, and panic blossomed.  He didn’t know what Hades had planned, but he heavily suspected that it wouldn’t actually help Will; if Hades trapped his son in the Underworld, it would simply ensure that Nico lived down with him all the time.  Will didn’t have to be dead for that to happen.
“I’ve got it!” he protested, returning to his son’s side and resting his hands on Will’s shoulders.  If his positioning served to place him directly between his son and his uncle, thereby getting in the way of whatever Hades was about to do and buying him a few more seconds, well, that was just a coincidence.
It also would buy only seconds.  They were in the heart of Hades’ domain; Apollo could only do so much against his wishes, and it wasn’t too late for his uncle to throw him out and drag Will down into Tartarus if it for some Olympus-forsaken reason pleased him, oath on the Styx or not.  His thoughts raced, discarding options as fast as it generated new ones.
The overwhelming instinct was to transform him into something that didn’t need sustenance.  Some form of cave-dwelling plant – Olympus knew there were enough of those in the Underworld, and Nico could be easily relied upon to keep him alive – but there was a nagging thought in the back of his mind that stayed the action.
No-one Apollo loved had ever been able to turn back from being a plant.
The swish of tortured-soul robes on the obsidian floor heralded Hades’ approach, and Apollo realised he was out of time.
“Will,” he said quietly, cupping the side of his son’s face with one hand.  “I’ll see you soon.”
The answering, confused, Dad? was overridden as he started to sing, a quiet, peaceful number that he steadily eased an increasing level of power into.  Behind him, Hades’ advance silenced, which was all the attention Apollo cared to give his uncle right then as he spun a delicate web of healing magic.
It wasn’t ideal; it was far from ideal, but Apollo’s options were severely limited – no thanks to his uncle.  He couldn’t just sing Will into an enchanted sleep, partially because that was more Morpheus’ domain than his and opened his son up to dreams which could be easily invaded by any god with intent, and partially because that didn’t actually fix the food issue.  It had to go deeper than that, staying firmly within Apollo’s own domains, and there was only one type of sleep he could induce that was his.
Will wavered in front of him, eyes drooping as the song washed over him, and Apollo pulled him close against his chest, guiding them down to the floor of Hades’ throne room as his son’s weight grew heavier against him.  Not that Will was heavy, to a god.  He might have been a feather for all the difficulty he posed Apollo as he slumped against him, but Apollo chose to feel the warm weight of his son as he sank away from the waking world.
The song didn’t stop even as Will lost the battle to stay awake, falling limp in Apollo’s arms.  He adjusted his grip until his son was cradled protectively against him, but kept singing, drawing Will down further and further.
It was risky; not so risky that Apollo feared getting it wrong, but risky enough that the feeling of his son’s pulse slowing to extreme lethargy sent a jolt of fear through him.  Will’s head lolled limply against his shoulder, his light fading away to nothing as Apollo’s power washed over him and ran through him, soothing every part of his body.
He finally let the last strains of melody fade away as Will’s body slowed, his chest rising and falling barely perceptively at a rate that on a mortal should be a major cause for concern.  Apollo’s own concern was only mitigated by the fact that he had done this, and that he didn’t make mistakes.  Not with his son’s life.
Growing slightly, enough that Will’s lanky growing-teenager frame fit perfectly in the cradle of his arms, Apollo pushed himself to his feet again, turning to face his uncle.  Hades raised an eyebrow at the unconscious boy, already matching Apollo’s new stature, plus his customary extra head of height.  “I’ll leave you to explain what you’ve done to my son,” he said.  “I doubt that was what he had in mind for keeping William ‘safe’.”  The other god sounded amused at the idea of Apollo facing Nico’s wrath, which didn’t surprise Apollo in the slightest.
“Where is Nico’s room?” he asked, resisting the urge to look away from Hades, even if it was just to glance down at his son in his arms.  He could feel Will’s vital signs clearly, on the cusp of too slow but in no danger of slipping over the edge.
“I rather thought you’d turn him into a flower,” his uncle continued as though he hadn’t spoken.  Apollo grit his teeth, reminding himself that his son was still going to be staying in the Underworld, and that even if Hades was going to be temporarily vacating it, it wouldn’t do to agonise him, just in case.  “Both you and my wife seem to have a fondness for doing so.”
Apollo had to fight to keep the frown off of his face.  “I thought Nico would prefer not to be dating a flower,” he said, trying to keep his tone light but aware that there was something sharp glinting in the depths of his voice.  Hades’ smirk told him that his uncle heard it.  “Nico’s room?  I believe you were the one to bring up the time pressure, uncle.”
Hades snapped his fingers and a skeleton materialised.  “Show Apollo to my son’s room,” he ordered it.
The skeleton bowed to the god, bones rattling in A Minor as it did so, before heading through a door to the side of the throne dais.  Apollo watched it go, before a noise caught his attention.  Hades had a raised eyebrow.  “Go,” he ordered.  “I will meet you there once I have put some affairs in order.”
It made sense that Hades had to sort some things out before leaving his domain entirely.  Apollo had had time to plan and put in contingencies, but Hades’ decision had been, well, it appeared to have been a spur of the moment conclusion, and his domain was far, far more involved than any of Apollo’s.  He nodded, and followed the skeleton.

nico will at least have to acknowledge his solo tartarus trip which will make me yell and scream i hope he gets to share details of how fuckin horrible it was alone and without the mist ok (x)
general theories
maybe it's not Bob who wants out, maybe it's someone else (Michael Yew?) (x)
helm of darkness appearance (x)
parallels to HoH scene (i have read the first five so like i do know about the cupid reference but i also mean the other parts included in the reblog here x)
because we know we're getting information about will and nico getting together, could the marked flashback chapter(s?) have something to do with that?? (x)
Mark and that character they said deserved more attention (? I’m butchering the quote probably) — Michael Yew and Ethan Nakamura are my top candidates for that but much moreso expecting and hoping for Michael Yew
the idea of Nico telling the truth to will makes me excited and nervous…just had a thought about what if it’s like. the truth of how deep his self hatred goes/how scared he was/etc?? ouch (continuation of the HoH post)
so when I read the leaked preview I had this idea — Nico dreaming in shadows maybe is Styx, and then his mom would be his lifeline. Her calling to him would be her going to tell him to let go/move on/move forward and leave his past behind him...which would be something of equal/important value as Bob the Titan. Like Nico’s whole backstory/life/who he was. — and leaving Nico’s memories has definitely been tossed around at least, and I’d be curious if my first theory for this book was realized at all
i'm hoping for
acknowledgement of will losing siblings, other campers too but will siblings <3 Michael Yew love u (river acheron post)
Nico (and Will) and Small Bob (comic of this)
will not keeping his shit together (x)
partially prompted by Percy saying this in SOH I hope there’s a Melinoe feature especially to explore both Will and Nico’s ghosts
some sort of nod/s to will and Nico knowing of each other before they got together (like the Apollo cabin fighting with the Ares cabin in TLO, callbacks and their POVs on stuff like that)
Solangelo/Hades interaction (would also love any apollo feature and can't decide if TOA makes me think it's more or less likely to happen)
i'm excited by the idea of:
will getting injured and talking nico through how to save him (from this post)
similarly -- "character seeing their SO being fatally wounded and reacting" (see: "will's grip was very weak") (tagged this post as TSATS)
michael yew dream sequence!!!! (x) (as i tagged in that post...maybe what nico has to tell will the truth for?)
reverse octavian situation, where will says someone can't be saved type of thing (x)
learning more about will's tattoo and maybe the reason(s) for getting it (x)
"let me see Nico cross the border of life and death only to emerge then as the most stunning, gorgeous existence this universe has to offer...Or Will. The sun is a star anyway. I'm not picky about it." from this post
will being afraid of snakes (this post)
simply characters talking about being queer!!! would love piper to be in this <3
potentially bianca didn’t go for rebirth and was just hiding from Nico trying to bring her back (in TSON he says that’s what he was doing when he found Hazel)
i wonder if...
Rachel says the prophecy has repeated itself twelve times and how twelve is an important number for Olympus and the Doors of Death (mine)
georgina parentage confirmed at all? (x)
also seeing as we're going to learn about how they got together...if anyone wants to read either of my two fics about it lmk lol they’re on ao3

i’ve seen a lot of people say that caleo’s age gap is okay because calypso still has the mentality/mind of a teenage girl, but i’d just like to point out that this isn’t true.
Tumblr media
this is a scene from trials of apollo ^ that goes out of its way not only to prove that calypso retains memories and experiences from her past no matter how far ago it was, it also makes a point of saying that calypso is super old even compared to apollo.
there’s also not ever any indication that calypso stayed a teen girl. she retains experiences, she holds grudges, her personality changes accordingly to the things that happen to her; all these things indicate that calypso is capable of changing and aging. “calypso and leo isn’t pedophilia” can be debated, but saying that her maturity level is anywhere near leo’s is simply untrue.

Okay so I just remember something. It's random, but I feel like I just had an epiphany.
So y'all remember that scene from HoO: TLH when Jason, Leo and Piper first met Lityerses at his father's house, Leo said something like "if not for his scars, he would be handsome" or something along that line.
And from Apollo's description at TDP, he said that Lit's face looked like 'the runway system at Heathrow Airport' because of his scars. That means that Lit's face would at least looks gruesome to strangers/other people.
And then, of course we remember that line when Lit said that he and Apollo are both good-looking AND Apollo said, "Naturally that, yes." without any hesitation. He just replied, and he said this to a scarred former enemy who had just redeem himself for less than a month. (wait, is that right? I kinda forgot how the timeline went. Lit's at the Waystation for less than two weeks at that point, right? Someone help me)
This might be just a friendly jab between them but ... I dunno, I feel like this is important. Maybe it's just me though. It's the scene that had make me convert to this ship.
Oh, and I mean zero offence to anyone who has scar/s on their face. Scars or not, y'all awesome. Seriously. (Like Lit, eheheheh)

30 Day Book Challenge
Day 14 - Favorite book of your favorite writer
Making me choose? Mean. Okay. I’ll pick my favorite from each series.
PJO - Titan’s Curse or Last Olympian. In Titan’s Curse for the first time in the series, you kind of got to see the real stakes. Two people were going to die and you didn’t know who. The prophecy almost comes true. Also little kid Nico is adorable. Last Olympian had me on the edge of my seat. It’s all action and the final battle and really masterfully written.
HoO - House of Hades. It flips between the Argo II crew on their way to Greece and Percabeth in Tartarus. Everyone on the Argo II has to really step up and come into their own: Hazel learns how to use the Mist, Piper gets her confidence, Frank becomes a leader instead of a timid follower, Leo gets his moment to solve the problem with the kerkopes rather than Jason fighting the fight and he also realizes his place in the prophecy, Jason has been a rule abiding Roman soldier his whole life and he makes the beginnings of his choice to bridge the Greeks and Romans and get better relationships with the gods.
ToA - Tower of Nero. I did very much like this series. Dark Prophecy was rather forgettable and Burning Maze cannot be my favorite. I liked being back at Camp Half-Blood here. Even though it was Apollo and Meg’s quest, it was cool to see Will and Nico have more of a part in it. Will’s never been on a quest before and Nico’s usually a side member (BotL he was only there when they ran into him, MoA/HoH he was only there because they rescued him, BoO it wasn’t the main quest). Plus I liked Apollo’s character development.
KC - Throne of Fire or Serpents Shadow. I need to reread these but I do remember that I thought the series started great and just got better. Throne of Fire might be my favorite because in Serpents Shadow they split up and I don’t think I liked that as much. I loved them going to each different House of Night.
MCGA - Ship of the Dead. Well it was either going to be this one or HoT because Alex Fierro is the best character and those are the only books with Alex. But I liked in SotD that we got to see more of Mallory, TJ, and Halfborn where we didn’t get that in the first two. Plus the beginning of the book? Alex has to drag Magnus back to Hotel Valhalla to respawn? Has someone written a fanfic about what Percy and Annabeth were doing during that time because I find it ridiculously hilarious.
sorry this is posted so soon after the other one

So, I just finished Tower of Nero and I have a lot of thoughts about it
Estelle has Percy’s sea-green eyes and silver hair?! lol why
okay but, Estelle for President, I love her
Apollo crying in the shower bc Sally and Paul are so kind to him? yeah, I cried too, why does kindness makes me so emotional??
Nico remains true to himself with that black skeletal pegasus camp shirt, good for him
Cried the second time when Nico ran away bc of Jason, give my boy a break!
Will has a sun tattoo on his chest, just for your information, oh and also William Andrew Solace
someone(Apollo) finally acknowledges how resilient Nico is! yes he’s an emo kid but he’s not weak
Rachel is as awesome as usual, Art can be made again. People can’t.
Will is a Star Wars geek! i knew he was a nerd, Nico and him had to have a least one thing in common
wait, Will can actually glow?? i thought this would be too cliche lmao
Friends, meet my glow-in-the-dark boyfriend
Nero: Where was I? Apollo: The villain monologue. Exactly my thought lmao
double amputation in a children’s book? sure, why not(okay, i think we can agree that ToA is more grown up than PJO and HoO)
i really loved Meg’s and Apollo’s character development, Apollo did learn his lessons and Meg is finally free from Nero, also their friendship is precious
RIP Arrow of Dodona(i kinda knew you wouldn’t make it)
yey, Hera redemption arc! kinda?
wow, Zeus really doesn’t care about Jason, worst Dad ever
Reunions
Rachel she’s going to Paris to study art, I’m so happy for her!
Solangelo a new prophecy, so there’s maybe a Nico stand alone story?! I’d rather read about that Paris date, but it looks like they’re going to rescue Bob from Tartarus, sigh those demigods can never catch a break, huh
Reyna and Thalia having fun on the hunt makes me happy!
Georgina possibly Apollo’s daughter?? I thought he would know that now that he’s a god again and all, plothole???
Lityerses with those elephants? adorable!
Caleo yikes, tbh I always hated the mamacita thing, so I’m glad we can ditch that, i love independent Calypso, I love that they both do their own thing(Leo teaching kids shop skills, Cal being a counsellor at a band camp), time apart is good, they need to figure themselves out, Leo has two great moms now, I’m disappointed that we don’t learn how he deals with Jason’s death, I mean he lost his best friend, but yeah let’s not talk about it or what, I’m sad that Leo’s so miserable, the book makes it seem like it’s all his fault, as if Calypso is perfect, I hope he and Calypso can make it work, but at this point I’m not so sure anymore
Frazel they’re doing great! now, both their curses are broken
Percabeth going to college as expected
Piper has a girlfriend, didn’t expect that at all, but I’m happy for her
Meg is not ok, but she will be, she’s really been through a lot, bless her
Conclusion I have mixed feelings, I’m glad that it’s over(even though there’s maybe a Bob/Tartarus story coming), there were a lot of unresolved issues in Heroes of Olympus, some have been cleared up(Hazel’s and Frank’s curses, Solangelo happened, Reyna and Venus’s prophecy), other things like the Caleo issues and Jasper breakup made me unhappy, I guess it’s realistic but I hated to read about that from Apollo’s point of view

It's very interesting to see Jason kind of be a jerk to Octavian. They're kind of jerks to each other but they're friends but not and it's very interesting. Much more interesting than HoO.
lololollol thanks💕 i’m stealing this ask to talk about their made up relationship hehe.... i’m throwing a read more cause i got verrrryyyy long and idk if it all makes sense lol
[📕 here is an intro to this particular branch of romanprequels]
[📖 here is the specific post on octavian in the rompre]
[📑 here is the tag on my blog for this particular branch]
So, I was stuck between two variations. The first was have them grow up as friends, but eventually dislike each other, but the second was this little rivalry. Idk, pjo could be dark at times, but this way served the roman trio to feel a lot more different in tone and relationship than from the original trio with percy/annie/grover or even the lost trio. HoO.... should’ve been darker, but having it go from PjO, to RomPre, to HoO is fine too.
That aside, they’re also 12/13 when they first meet, and are stuck in close proximity, and pitted against each other from the beginning. Octavian’s someone who has always been in power because of his family and prodigy, and suddenly some orphan comes along and is praised just cause he’s the son of jupiter? Yeah, that was natural. Jason didn’t really grow up constraining his aggressiveness, but he learns to through out the books, but still makes thoughtless remarks and shit (which is why he would think things through a lot more come HoO. He’s definitely a thinker, but he’ll come to a point- Octavian related or not- where Jason gets that his mind is a lot more powerful and he needs to trust it. Which is why his memory loss is so upsetting in TLH because that was his tool to trust).
Anyway, they’re still like, questmates. I have it planned that Jason’s in the first cohort with Octavian (further pissing the latter off) until the ending of the second book, where they fail to do something and Jason gets demoted. So they’re definitely familiar with each other and despite their competition, they’re still kind of friends who care about each other. Also, Octavian is like, kind of pretentious lmao. Reyna on the other hand, is someone Jason always trusts and relies on, but that’s for another post lol.
I think a lot of Jason means well. There are points in HoO where he can be careless or cocky, which is funny since he’s typically regarded as such a morally sound character. I think it would’ve been better to see him grow into that instead, and the comparison between his dynamic with the Romans, and then his dynamic with the Greeks would change him a lot.
🤔 When it comes to Octavian, there’s always been this kind of influence of a rigid set of morals, and power, and fate. Being an Augur literally surrenders to fate, but there’s probably some corruption with people lying about it or faking prophecies maybe? It’s interesting that canonly, Octavian REALLY wants to be praetor, but there wasn’t any reasoning for it. He also mentions looking for Jason, but doesn’t really put much effort. Jason also never seemed inclined to be in power nor be praetor, so for him to unwittingly steal it from Octavian? WILD.
‘Cause Octavian does have some semblance of prophecy powers, he could’ve already seen this coming, and might’ve listened to Jason saying “blah blah fate isn’t real haha” and maybe believed him. Only for the outcome to be exactly what he despised.
Anyway, I think it would’ve been really cool for Jason to be so “YOU DECIDE YOUR OWN FATE, WE CAN CHANGE IT!!!!”, especially with the themes of PJO, and then, in HoO it’s literally him succumbing to fate and the will of the gods, and like, by toa... he really just accepts it. And it’s such a sad story to watch.
As for Octavian, we just get introduced to this snobby kid with issues, and then over the Roman series, we’ll see those issues and why, and watch as he tries to fight it, but he also fails, and eventually dies in HoO because of this power-hungry state and allegiance to the Rome that they’ve tried to abolish.... also a sad story. (Reyna’s i have kinda planned in my head, but have yet to dive into cause she actually HAS a backstory in canon but i can’t remember it lmao)... so like, perhaps one of the reason why Jason doesn’t enjoy leading as much is because he still feels awful about what he did to Octavian. Like, all his efforts for his friends turn out bad, which pushes his insecurity, cause maybe he is just like his dad.
Anyway.... cause I’m a lost trio superstar 😍 this kinda fits into why jason doesn’t fuel too much into his supposed “rivalry” with percy, but also tries harder to keep leo grounded cause octavian losing himself could very much happen to leo too. but also when it comes to piper, you have someone who did lie to him all tlh, and was going to sell him out for family, so he’s trying to manage that. HONESTLY THIS WORKS A LOT BETTER if Jason straight up, didn’t get his memories in tlh, and he always has flashbacks to what makes up the roman prequels but  doesn’t quite remember. So then, he knows something happen, but when he looks at the hurt in Reyna’s face, or the envy in Octavian’s he knows it’s his fault but not how. And he can only hope he doesn’t do it again with Piper and Leo.

Crack theory: in HoO Lost Hero, from Jason's pov, he assumes Lityerses is showing off for and flirting with Piper. In ToA Dark Prophecy, Lityerses was aware Calypso and Apollo were traveling with Leo, and wants to meet him again. He sounds like he blames Leo for killing Midas, but Leo barely interacted with Lit or Midas. Leo and Piper were turned to gold, it was Jason that Lit fought. It was Jason that Lit saw as a threat. When Lit finds out Calypso is dating Leo, he wants to use her to bring out specifically Leo. Apollo even mentions that Lit seems to hate Leo the most. But, why? Shouldn't he be asking about Jason, if he wanted revenge for himself or Midas?
This is a long post for me to say my theory is Lit was attracted to Leo, not Piper. In a... You know, villain-y way. A now repressed ancient Greek prince kind of way, now stuck in the 21st century where you can't just kidnap a guy you like.
It definitely wasn't that Rick just entirely forgot how much interaction they actually had in HoO.

rick didnt even decide on the aro/ace thing for the Hunt until that book, even! before then it was just 'swear off men' for the safety of girls and women but then people got Ideas of wlw in the hunt and rick decided to shut that down by ToA
exactly! the hunters have never been a very “black and white” thing for me and other fans bc in one sentence he writes just what you said about keeping away from men for the girls’ own safety, then he goes and says something along the lines of “swearing off all kinds of love”. then in the dark prophecy he introduces two married women who were previously hunters, and i didn’t read the book but there’s at the very least an implication that they were kicked out for being in love with each other; now he’s saying the hunters is basically the aro/ace club?
and it gets more interesting if you look at other characters who joined the hunt, like bianca and thalia. neither joined bc they wanted to be single forever or bc they swore off love or anything like that. bianca joined bc she was tired of basically being a parent to her younger brother when she herself was only 12 y/o and had decided he was in good hands with chb (there’s also a pretty cool theory that she was really afraid of dying and couldn’t refuse immortality when it was offered to her). thalia joined bc she wanted to play no part in the great prophecy (i still vividly to this day remember that bit when she was talking to zeus and said “i will not be turning 16 on the morrow”, the badass that she is, ooof) like… love was never even a reason to them. so why assume every single hunter is the same?
and at the end of the day, when you take all this previous canon and see where it’s ended up now aka toa… you really can’t help but think maybe rick’s only doing this out of pettiness bc a bunch of gay fans wanted wlw representation. like there’s literally nothing wrong with the hunters being exclusively for aro/ace girls, but that should’ve been established either from the very beginning or at least before he included a lesbian couple that parted from them for being in love bc that seriously reeks of lesbophobia :\
