this is more me making sense of my thoughts than it is a proper post. i've been reading a lot of fic in the past six months, and recently i've noticed that i'm really squeamish about romanticising power imbalance.

i'm saying this is more thoughts than post because - different people, different opinions? everyone should do whatever the hell works for them, and some people could manage leaning more on their partner than others. but i, personally, see equality between partners and the independent growth of each partner outside of the relationship as a must have in an adult relationship.

this translates to personal hobbies, separate friends, alone time, etc. - but in fic, this mostly concerns money. and this got me thinking about omgcp.

i've seen a lot of jokes about bitty getting engaged to jack right out of college. i've seen a lot of jokes about how he doesn't have a real job and is a kept boy (i'm probably bitter because i think youtube is definitely a job, but maybe that's my inner 2014 youtube fandom member talking, lol). they were good-natured jokes, obviously, but it just. bugs me so much?

and now i wanna write so many future canonverse "fix it"s. snapshots of bitty and jack talking about money like adults. because jack - you know jack zimmermann. jack 110% zimmermman. jack "i'll buy my teammate an oven" zimmermann. jack has had money all his life, and he has his own money now, and he might, probably, definitely, be a little too inclined to spend it on bitty. he knows the value of money, he's not a big spender usually, but in his mind, what better way to spend his money than on the man he loves?

and bitty - look. bitty clearly likes gifts and jack's silly big romantic gestures; jack buying bitty the entire beyonce collection comes to mind. being too proud to accept expensive acts of affection is not one of his character traits. but bitty also, stubbornly, refuses to ask for help with his issues or admit he has them at all. and i just can't see him being comfortable with the easiness with which jack can just wave away every financial worry bitty might have.

in the long run, we already know it doesn't matter: ngozi has hinted many times that bitty becomes famous in his own right ("has a food empire"), which is probably around the time jack is nearing retirement. their positions will even out. but straight off the bat, bitty moving from a rundown frat house into an apartment he doesn't pay for, and only starting to negotiate his book deal and his channel and his career ambitions... i would like to see them talk about this. a mature, realistic obstacle in a relationship.

like, you know fics where jack buys bitty a bakery? ...exactly not that. i'd like to see fair arguments - jack bringing up joint accounts once they'd be married, and asking where does bitty draw the line; bitty realizing he is, indeed, not ready for them to be legally married just yet. bitty inviting jack to his vlog to relaunch the channel and announce his cookbook but then refusing to monetize jack's fame any further than that, instead choosing to build on his own community. jack and bitty trying to find a balance between bitty not actually needing to pay anything in his life with jack but wanting to, and how they find a common ground they're comfortable with.

TL;DR - i've got an adulting kink and i'd like to see jack and bitty be big boys in a healthy relationship who love each other and build their lives side by side, as equals ☺️

hey kind of important thing abt the future of my fics, you might wanna read this

maybe it's just all the shock and frustration talking, and maybe this'll change going forward, but i don't know if i wanna keep writing hatchetfield fic anymore. the thought of it has just been soured by all the shit going down, and i feel awful about it. like, my motivation for hf fics has already been pretty low lately, and i'd been considering starting to shift more focus towards my original ideas. frankly, i've been pretty certain of the fact that i would never finish dtfiles or hohf for a while now. that's the main reason why i haven't been requesting fic asks lately.

idk. maybe things'll change and i'll reconsider once the whole situation with rob gets... something, but i kinda doubt it to be completely honest. my mind has been more focused on my original ideas than ever recently, and again, this whole disaster has made me just... not want to write hatchetfield fic anymore. if i do decide to go through with this, i'll likely just orphan most of my fics instead of deleting them since i am proud of some of them and i know how much you guys love them. i will probably delete some of them, mainly the ones i'm not super big on. dtfiles and (most of) hohf will still be up (the chances of the ficlet collection staying up are slim to none tbh), but i can't imagine anyone will be too torn up if i get rid of, say, sniggles in the mall. i'll even make a couple of posts detailing what my plans for future dtfiles and hohf chapters/content were, if people show interest.

but yeah, tl;dr, there's like a 98% chance that i'll be orphaning (and in a select few cases, deleting) my hatchetfield fics to focus more on my original ideas, since shit kind of hit the fan. i'm really sorry, and i love and appreciate you guys and the support you've shown for my fics. but i just don't think my motivation for them will return, even in the best case scenario for sk's response to rob's actions. again, i'm so, so sorry.

Questions/theories I have about Khaenri’ah and Kaeya because. No I haven't processed We Will Be Reunited what are you talking abt?

Why is Kaeya their only agent out in the nations (that we've seen so far)? It’s very likely that Venti didn’t participate in the Cataclysm, so why would targeting his city matter that much? Unless Kaeya is the only Khaenri’ahn person (aside from Dain) left uncursed and they couldn’t have him in more than one nation? But we can assume that’s not the case because unless Kaeya’s father is an Abyss Mage or something he’s still uncursed. Or do the the Fatui count as Khanri'ah's agents in other nations, because Mondstadt is good at Not Letting The Fatui Have That Much Control?

If you weren’t in Khaenri’ah at the time of the Cataclysm (maybe in another nation trading, or on the sea) would you have been cursed or would you have kept your original form?

The star pupils. Are they a genetic mutation that’s a result of the specific type of magic that was used in Khaenri’ah (the type that Dain uses)? If so, does that mean Kaeya can wield it as well? If it not the magic, is it a result of the Alchemy? If Khemia was used in everyday farming and agriculture, could it have had side effects on those who ate the food, resulting in things like the star pupils?

Zhongli says that the Blackcliff Forge has reached the ruins deep beneath the earth (or something along those lines), so have they reached what’s left of Khaenri’ah? Is that going to be important later on? Is that going to be the Abyss’s way of reaching Liyue if it invades?

Albedo. Just. Albedo. He said “Lose control,,,, destroy everything” (or something like that) and I assumed that was because he didn’t want to follow in Gold’s footsteps but now that I know the Archons are responsible for Khaenri’ah’s fall,,,, is Albedo a super weapon? Is there some power laying dormant in him that could very well be used by the Abyss to destroy Celestia? Is said power being fueled by his usage of Khemia? He’s some sort of Homonculus or something so it’s possible,, right?

If the Abyss Heralds are the cursed royal guards of Khaenri'ah like I theorized in my last We Will Be Reunited Post, then what are the Abyss Lectors? The royal scholars?

Haha Kaeya again, if he can use whatever magic Dain uses, how does it react with his Vision? Does his Vision hinder his ability to use said magic? Is it just repressed within him? Does he have external signs of it (like Dain's arm) that he has to hide? Is that what's under his eyepatch?? Is that type of magic what gives him his ability to teleport freely? Because he's the only character who does that, everyone else uses their Vision for it

Gold???? Please please let there be Gold content in the future??? I would very much like further details on their corruption and how exactly it worked??? Also if their motives were what I think they were then brrrr I'm already emotionally attached just let me meet them please

How exactly does the abyss/above ground time difference work? (using Tartaglia's three months:three days as an example) When you're in the abyss is your physical aging slowed so you only age three days but mentally age three months? Do physical aging and mental aging stay in sync so you age the three months but it's only three days actually above ground? Or is physical and mental aging slowed so that you only age three days even though it's been three months??

If the abyss/above ground time difference works w mental aging on abyss time but physical aging on above ground time, then Kaeya could have been in the Abyss for all those years having the plan absolutely drilled into his head which could be part of why he's having a really hard time picking a side between Khaenri'ah and Mondstadt

Also did Tartaglia and Kaeya meet in the abyss??? They both might have been there at the time so,, imagine going to Mondstadt and then running into the kid you met in the abyss and he's the Cavalry Captain. The sheer whiplash-

If Khaenri'ah was destroyed by gods,,,, what is Kaeya's idea of Venti? Jean knows about Venti's identity, and she does trust Kaeya, so she might have told him? There's also the traveler who has a pretty good impression of Kaeya, all things considered, so I guess there's a possibility there? Either way, imagine knowing that an Archon who may or may not have helped destroy your home nation is sitting in the same tavern as you and is just casually singing- oof-

How much does Diluc know about Khaenri'ah? How much did Kaeya tell him? How much did Diluc find out just on his own? Did the traveler tell him anything? He has a line in the Mondstadt chapter of the game where he says something along the lines of "there's more to the abyss than a few mages" so how much more of the abyss does he know about?? Did he have another fun brotherly conversation with Kaeya about Khaenri'ah? If the Fatui are working with the abyss/working to avenge Khaenri'ah, and if Delusions are based on/improvements on Khaenri'ahn tech then Diluc could have found info on Khaenri'ah while on his Anger Trip, right?

Actually, you know what, forget Diluc, how much does Lisa know about Khaenri'ah? She's insanely smart, is already suspicious of Visions, and hesitant to trust the gods at face-value, as well as being refereed to by Cyrus as the best student in the Sumeru Academia in 200 years. She knows at least a little about everything, and something like the Cataclysm would most definitely peak her interest. Perhaps she came across something about Khaenri'ah while trying to figure out the price of Visions? I know that so far the traveler hasn't found a book of much relevance to Khaenri'ah, but the traveler also hasn't gotten to Sumeru yet, so,, it's possible that there's some books somewhere that are about Khaenri'ah, or records of the Cataclysm

The sibling,,, are they ruling over the Abyss Order alone? Are there other people involved? We know their end game is to take out Celestia, but is that the end game of other people in the abyss? We know Dain would rather stay off the radar of the gods (likely because he doesn't want to be targeted as a threat and also doesn't want to be regarded as an ally), but if there's other people involved then,, what do they want? Is the plan Kaeya's involved in deviate from the plan of the sibling? Does Dain have a preferred course of action for the Abyss that isn't wiping it all out?

Dottore. He was in Liyue studying Field Tillers. From the manga we already know that Dot's knowledge when it comes to machinery is pretty advanced, considering he turned a corpse into a full-on killing machine that looked a lot like a more modern Field Tiller. So why was he doing more research? We can assume that Dot only abandoned his research lab around the time of Liyue's funky Osail and Fatui calamity (meaning he was probably in Liyue when we were and we didn't get to see him :( ), so he'd probably uncovered some new information that lead to a new string of experiments. But what did he learn?? Was he looking into different ways to interact with the 'Tillers, came across whatever magic Dain uses, and immediately had to test some things out? New weaponry, maybe? Or new analysis capabilities? Or does the manga take place during a time when Dot was studying the 'Tillers, so the one he made was a test of what he'd learned? Or was his study ordered by the Tsaritsa? Any way you look at it there's just,,, questions,,,,

Season 2 Speculation - Jamie Tartt back to Richmond?

Some of you might've noticed I'm new to the fandom (my first week guys :D) but I've been a football (aka soccer) fan my entire life so I was wondering, would be realistic for Jamie to transfer back to AFC Richmond in Season 2?

Now, for a transfer to go through 3 things need to happen: 1. a club wants to sell; 2. another club wants to buy; 3. player wants to move clubs. Let's start with the easiest one and move to the trickier ones as we go.

• Would AFC Richmond want Jamie back? Of course they would! Ted never wanted him gone, same goes for the fans that must've loved him and, of course, Rebecca would want to redeem herself for letting him go in the first place. Now, Championship clubs make a lot less money per season than Premier League clubs so our girl Rebecca would need to step in if AFCR wanted to buy Jamie. But again, she would want to redeem herself and give Ted a little treat, so I'm sure she would do it (and I'm confident the show won't go into something as boring as financial fair play regulations).

• Would Jamie want to go back? Yes! Jamie was loaned out to a club that was fighting relegation, his owner club won the league, clearly he isn't anywhere near being a major star at City, he's probably far from even being a regular starter. Of course I'm aware Richmond got relegated but football is a lot about mid-term projects. Jamie has an emotional attachment to Richmond, to the team and to Ted even (daddy issues am I right), so when he finds out Ted didn't want him gone, that will matter. The chance of being THE main star who brings Richmond back to the Premier League and, on top of that, wins the whole freaking thing (mid-term project), will also matter.

A real life example of this happening: Neymar (who has a similar personality to Tartt's) left a better club and a bigger league (Barcelona/La Liga) to play for a, at the time, weaker club and smaller league (PSG/Ligue 1). He wanted to be the main star. At Barcelona he was a supporting act, Messi was always the main star, even when it was Neymar doing the heavy lifting. He left for PSG where he could be the "franchise player", so to speak. Funny enough, a guy named Kylian Mbappe happened, but we move.

So yes, under the right conditions of: not getting enough playing time at City; wanting more attention; and patching things up with Ted (and Rebecca), I believe Jamie would consider a transfer back to Richmond.

• Would Manchester City want to sell? Maybe. Would they wanna loan him out again? I doubt it, especially not for Richmond after being relegated and after they "sent him back" in the previous season. Let's go back to them maybe wanting to sell Jamie.

Apparently he is 23 years old (based on what Keeley said on ep.4), so he's already getting a bit old to be considered a wonderkid (big clubs won't usually sell those, too much potential). He was loaned out for the season to get regular playing time at AFCR but when he went back it seemed like he was playing at least a few minutes for City, even played the entire game against Richmond. That could complicate things but we don't know enough about City (on show world) to be sure, maybe they had too many injuries, maybe they already had won the league so more regular players were resting, we don't know but given that he was a 23 yo loanee, let's assume he ain't in most starting XIs for Man City.

What could happen then is, if Jamie were to ask to leave, City would probably not be opposed to selling him with a buy-back clause. That means City gets paid and Jamie becomes a permanent AFCR player, but in the future if he becomes a star, City can use that clause to get him back for little more than Richmond pays for him.

Another recent real world example: Rhian Brewster, he's a hot prospect that was first loaned out, then came back and was getting a few minutes playing for Liverpool last season and then was finally sold out to Sheffield United in the beginning of this season with a buy-back clause. Liverpool pocketed the money without losing an important player and they still can get him back cheap if he becomes a star later. City has also used buy-back clauses multiple times in real life (Angelino to Leipzig, Douglas Luiz to Aston Villa, etc) so it would make sense for them to sell Tartt under this condition.

TL;DR: Jamie can and most likely will be back at Richmond in season 2 and it won't be unrealistic.

* This is all trying to think of this as a real life thing btw, if we just consider that this is a TV show and they can do whatever they want, then whats the fun?

* Also, I'm sorry this is such a long post for such a trivial matter but when I'm obsessed with something, especially TV shows, I get OBSESSED with it.

Genuinely Don’t Say Anything Interesting Here But I Like Talking So Thus I’m Posting This

okay I did like nothing productive today but have a ramble on youtube fanbases, specifically the new gen of mcyt. This was two posts and then I made it one so sorry when I repeat myself. I did edit it tho lol. But that means I also inserted more, so this is just all over the place now.

me from the future: oh god. all over the place. wait wtf this is so long. I don’t even have much to say I just like writing the same sentence three different ways and refusing to cut any of them. I’m sorry; I don’t know how to edit; this is informal AF. (can I use three semicolons? at least one of those is wrong anyways lol.)

edit: I’m so sorry I forgot about having a “read more” last night laksjdflksjad. Also idk if I even agree with myself lmao.

it’s so funny how mcyt is like The Thing now. It’s not cool to like it anymore lol, cuz everybody does. (This is a me thing. I like being special lol. I also self-define “cool” so you should not take it to heart when I say it’s not cool.)

I mean, just thinking about the Dream SMP as something I *do* want to get into, it doesn’t feel like “our thing” -- it’s has the feel of a HUGE fandom. Seriously, I’m in the phandom, which ngl has been dead since 2018, and the fanbase for the SMP has a much different, bigger feel. Idk what i’m getting at, it feels imposing? looking at the Dream SMP fandom seems similar in scope and slightly in atmosphere to pre-2019 phandom, at least to me, and it’s actually making me grateful that I joined now and not all that time ago.

Also I brought up the “our thing” bit because of the mcr post that goes “funny how MCR seems like our little secret and the biggest thing in the world at the same time” and I kinda thought that was just how all fandoms worked? idk I was going to assert that the truth is different but I thought some more and now I’m not sure.

but yeah I like the “our little secret” feel and somehow the phandom has (re)gained that while technoblade (and the new gen of mcyt as a whole) is loosing it.

I mean, I’ve been watching Technoblade since the bedwars winstreak. He had less than a millions subs but most people I brought him up to actually did know who he was. He was big but he wasn’t *famous* -- we all knew about him and we all cared. Like the only person who knew who he was and didn’t care had a little brother(s?) that loved him (wait why is this all in past tense this is all still true). (Yes AFC this has become a callout post for you mocking techno lol.) (If you’re still reading my miNeCRaFT yOuTuBeR fAnBaSe MEta. cringe culture is dead tho; I don’t have to say it like that.)

Anyways, I didn’t follow Technoblade’s Dream SMP streams and now I feel like I’d just be tagging along if I did get into it. (also didn’t watch SMP Earth lol.) This is because I’m a gate-keeping jerk. Or hate missing out. One of those two things.

(awkward transition where I don’t know how to make my tangent meaningful and have to make it back to the original train of thought I violently interrupted)

As a long time Techno fan, I’m really proud of the growth he’s experiencing, but a little sad too as the community is being -- well, I don’t want to say “infiltrated,” as I don’t want to shade anyone who was simply late to the party -- perhaps diluted? overwhelmed? yeah, overwhelmed by newer fans, and becoming “unmanageable” in a sense; it feels like we’ve lost a bit of our sense of community with the influx of new fans -- no shade to any new fans! This is just the way fandoms work. When the crowd is larger, it becomes harder recognize each member as a person, even if everything else is the same. (”The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic.”) (look this is how my brain works deal with it)

I just really like this small community feel, and it’s a bit daunting looking at the smp fandom.

Also the growth Dream experienced this year is genuinely ludicrous. I mean, the wide appeal of shipping is part of it, not going to beat around that bush, but there’s just so much and I wanna read an essay from a long-time fan who saw it on why he’s got so much growth.

I really hate to shame fans and stuff, but part of it, at least for me, is that most of these new fans probably aren’t “minecrafters” like we were. I doubt the majority of them grew up on Stampy, DanTDM, and whatever the other ones I didn’t watch were. I mean, some of this is because Child. For them, the distinction is really pre-quarantine post-quarantine i guess? Really, whether they played Minecraft or not. Again, I know it’s bad to shame fans, but apparently I’m just a terrible person and I feel like it’s more shallow or disingenuous to get into MCYT when it’s popular without already being into Minecraft.

WAIT that’s it -- Minecraft community, as a whole, is special. It’s a LARGE umbrella of fandoms in general, but that’s the thing: they’re all more communities than fandoms -- from the casual builders to the pro parkour players to those who watched the og youtubers to those who followed the Great Potato War, there was Minecraft Culture.

And the expanded fandom that’s sprung up around the Dream SMP and possibly Dream in general (???) is more of fandom. It feels like a fandom. People treat it like a fandom, they talk about it in fandom spaces, it is fandom, a modern fandom. Not a quaint “little” Minecraft community.

I’m not going to say it’s because of the shipping, but... I have no data but at least I can say that it certainly creates an appeal for Fandom People as opposed to Minecraft People. And then also it’s just a fandom thing so it makes the space more fandom.

Also I realized this is all based upon a feeling, so where did the feeling come from? I was reading in-fandom texts a lot today, and I think the storyline actually might have something to do with it. Also maybe the “talking behind their backs”? I can’t be bothered to remember what I’m comparing to what at this point but that’s definitely done in a lot of other spaces I’m in, so idk.

OH FRICK I’ve mostly been *in* the fandom spaces for real things lmao. (Read: I’m 100% making up everything at this point.)

And really, I played minecraft today for the first time in months. But it’s still with me, you know? The memories of being introduced to it, growing up with it. Going to the Nether with my cousins, my uncle’s giant survival mode cathedral. Mojang being bought by Microsoft and everybody hating it. (... me, my brother, my two friends, essentially... how did we even know??)

TL;DR: Dream SMP fandom feels like a fandom and not a Minecraft community and while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, I’ve realized I prefer a community feel, which makes me grateful I joined the phandom now. Also I shouldn’t be allowed to post things past 9:00pm.

Well, at least *I* think I’m a fascinating person with interesting things to say hahahahha.

this DLC has me FUCKED UP and i keep screaming

spoilers for Bounty of Blood under the cut, keep reading at ur own peril. Also some Guardian Takedown spoilers for anyone who hasn’t beat it yet

tl;dr: a comparison between something taken from BL2 and a thing taken from Bounty of Blood. more spoilery tl;dr below the cut.

also the siren thing is not spoilers so i’ll share it here for anyone curious, it’s just this: siren tattoos are blue but when lily absorbs eridium in 2, they turn pinkish/purple. just like how vaults do from bl1 to bl2. they’re white/blue in bl1, then purple-pink in bl2 (and tps), y’know, after Eridium begins erupting from the ground. just a neat little detail i noticed that im not entirely sure was intentional but im gonna believe it is.

tl;dr: Gythian Blood = Core and the Ruiner is of Eridian Origin even tho everyone in the DLC likes to say it was created with Jakobs’ bioengineering. disclaimer: idk if I’ve found every hidden ECHO so I may be missing a few things but I have done every side quest and took ample screenshots of all important dialogue in the DLC : )

altho!!! there's a neat comparison between joey ultraviolet and rose. like obviously he wasn't getting tattoos and was just doing lines of crushed up eridium but the point stands they both have glowy eyes and unique powers so i don't necessarily think this means rose is a siren just because she has magic powers especially when we know she got the whistling passed down to her from her grandmother.

especially because we've never seen a siren interact with core before. altho that leaves the question we have seen core tattoos now what are eridium tattoos like? actually rose's tattoos were on her right arm obviously she isn't a siren as we know them right now (I saw a post on reddit where people thought rose was a siren)

of course that brings up the point perhaps siren tattoos ARE eridium tattoos. but then we hear the general's log about how the devil riders were tattooing a man with core and blood so obviously they're not ‘naturally’ occurring unlike siren tattoos. so odds are they're probably not equivalents but something interesting i thought of while thinking about this is how well siren tattoos compare to the Vaults from borderlands 1 and borderlands 2″

anyway. this is all ive been thinking about. yes yes i know guardian takedown post but! >:( im still salty even tho this update has been lovely (outside of Blane not getting his correct damage scaling ‘till today......). so i’ll do that at my own damn pace. now let me elaborate so i can sleep at night lmao

refinement produces slag, which weakens people and can mutate things

has mutating properties, mostly with imbuing elements into shit- possibly causes insanity

seems to be connected to another dimension, likely the one the Eridians are from

Core

has a secondary form of Infused Core

has mutating properties, mostly regarding a thing’s body and mind

apparently radioactive

there are some things i wanna note

1) People throughout the DLC say the Ruiner was created by the Jakobs corp (the company) thru bio-engineering but I’m 99% sure that’s not true. The paperwork seems to me like they found the egg somewhere on Gehenna and decided to roll and experiment with it like all corporations do when they find weird alien shit. so maybe they experimented with whatever was inside the egg, but I don’t think they actually created it entirely

2) The Ruiner’s design reminds me a lot of the Warrior.

3) Core immediately reminded me of Gythian Blood from Guns Love and Tentacles and I don’t think that’s coincidence to have 2 back-to-back DLCs where the big bad is focused on green death juice. I think Gythian Blood and Core are of the same stuffs.

4) Therefore, I think the Ruiner is (mostly) of Eridian origin (if you haven’t already guessed).

This gives us an amazing look into how the Eridians actually create their beasts!!! And I’m so happy they showed us this.

(side note, Interitus Regina (the long name for Ruiner) literally means Destruction Queen and I think that’s beautiful <3)

i mean the idea that they plunge them from orbit to create an explosion similar to a nuke is fucking horrifying (but holy shit I love it so much ahhh it’s so cool!!!!)

the one side line from Oletta about how the company couldn’t control the Ruiner deffo makes me double down on this theory. I’m not entirely sure how Rose’s grandma knew about the whistling (I don’t think I’ve found every echo log in that area YET), but I would bet it was part of the testing given how many fuckin’ tape players they have throughout the facility. The Warrior was controlled by verbal commands via Jack, so it’s possible that the Ruiner was intended to be controlled similarly, but Jakobs intervention (or something like the way Rose hatched it) fucked it up.

now we know the Warrior was created to protect the Vault of the Destroyer (hmm.) so what the heck was the Ruiner created for? Ruiner is a name given to it by Jakobs/the people of Gehenna so we can’t really assume, but then again the monster names are pretty apt in this series even tho they probably technically shouldn’t be.

it was only an egg, so maybe it was another test of Core? A Vault Monster incubating until it was ready to protecc and attacc but was never hatched because the Eridians ‘sacrificed’ themselves before it could? (I’m still not convinced the Eridians are the good guys. Listen. LISTEN. The guardian takedown is something to think about, BUT it doesn’t disprove that theory and I’ll stand by it because I 100% trust the Overseer more than bitchpants mcgee over here who thinks he’s soooo special for no reason fuck you and your dumb ‘I did what the Watcher could not’ bull you haven’t done shit.) ok sorry im done he just angers me. stupid guardian man. your whip is stupid and you should feel bad. oh also I totally called us actually being Guardians thru Guardian Rank before the game came out aha yeah.

I definitely think Gythian was a test/use of Core from the Eridians. We see in Bounty of Blood that core seems to mutate more the physical (and occasionally mental) parts of people, like with the crew challenges u do for Juno with all the weird hybrid people and whatnot. Gythian had the whole ‘the heart still beats’ thing going on (which is definitely a physical mutation if i’ve ever seen one), plus the whole, you know, mind control and shit. Which is p similar to what the menta gnats can do when charged with Infused Core. And keep in mind in BLaT we see DAHL notes on what happens to test subjects when injected with Gythian Blood. They mutated physically and went insane.

What im saying is Sirens and Eridium and Elements are connected, so what does Core equal? body/mind sure but are there unique creatures for core (yes holy shit I’m not talking about h2o au for once and FINALLY they gave us a canon name for the green stuff!!!). If not, I’d love to see a Siren interact with Core to see what it does to them. seriously why hasn’t tannis interrupted us yet. horrible excuse for a science lover (kidding kidding, I love her). I’d also really love a fuller rundown on what the hell Rose’s powers were. Because the whistling thing seemed to just be her grandma’s thingie passed down to her from her mom

but the core stuff

her gun seems to be infused with it. So did her sword thing. I didn’t really get a good look at it i was too busy trying to see thru my blurry tears of LOVE for this DLC.

Strangely while her tattoos are (mostly) green I actually don’t know if they’re core infused bc look at this

I’d love to know if the core gives her immediate future sight or just increased perception or reaction times. there’s a huge difference but she seemed to be able to shoot the gun outta the sheriff’s hand near immediately and it seems kinda implied its because of the core (or at least because her eyes are glowing green)

there’s a possibility she has some unique core powers/possibly implants because of her relations to the project in the first place, or as leader of the devil riders after looting the facility. it’s really hard to say without more info and like i said im not sure if i missed an ECHO or two or not regarding her backstory :(

Her hair is also green which I just noticed. Maybe she has core powers bc her grandmother got suuuuuuuuper irradiated/influenced working on project horizons and it passed down thru her n Rose’s mom, to Rose. Tannis does have a line about Sirens having unique hair colors and, if Sirens are linked to Eridium, perhaps those linked to Core also have unique hair color. Could also explain why only Rose seems to have those whistling powers. That said we don’t really see anyone else trying that whistling thing out afaik and idk if it was, like, a special ability or a certain tone/ditty or w h a t.

i know being vague with everything gives them more creative freedom to create amazing characters and scenarios, but dammit I want A N S W E R S.

All THAT said man I’m so glad magic is real in the borderlands universe. oh, sorry, “magic”. It’s magic. Science it, tannis, I dare you. either way, I win. Either it’s magic and H2O AU is canon, or it’s science and I finally get my goddamn answers. Hey gearbox can you make a book just explaining all the science and eridian stuff. please. I’d love you forever. please. pleaheheheheaaasseee it’s all i’ve ever wanted.

oh also can i just say, suuuper disappointed we didn’t learn anything about anshin. Really wish non-fan favorite corporations would get the spotlight/lore for once. Like, I like Jakobs as much as the next guy, and I get WHY they did it (can’t have a corporation looking too good!!!) but they now have 3 DLCs (Jakobs Cove, GLaT, and Bounty of Blood) and also a hefty chunk of the main game. Like... we all know Jakobs fuckin sucks, look at what they did on Pandora. I really just want info on a medical corporation 😭 I have to do everything my damn s e l f. but SERIOUSLY IMAGINE the possibilities that could come from a medical corp getting its hands on eridian tech. like, yeah obviously the weapons corps are gonna use it for weaponry and stuff BUT WOULDN’T THE MEDICAL CORPS MUTATING PEOPLE MAKE MORE SENSE??? ldfhgldfshg I have to do everything my damn self...

anyway all that aside, this is definitely by favorite borderlands dlc by a LONG shot. Nothing comes close. Ahhh the lore, the nuclear aspect, the a e s t h e t i c (seriously, have I mentioned how much I adore Trigun???), the art, the music, the cryoslinger, the fact I can bust out going beeEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAans like Ray Chase at any time and it will MAKE SENSE. I love all of it.

oh, also, Rose is totally not dead. C’mon, they couldn’t find her body. She pulled a Lilith. “Are you sure she didn’t just suffer a wound that LOOKS fatal, only for her to come back in a blockbuster sequel...?” is a line from mr Jones himself (the movie guy)

I just hope when she comes back she gets to meet Captain Scarlett. I’d love to watch their interactions plus pirates and or ninjas. That’s 2 DLC villains now that have vanished without a trace. And I like Captain Scarlett way more than Rose (seriously I spent the entire beginning of the DLC complaining about how her voice bothered me- I was so happy she was a villain, I was hoping that was the case).

oh yeah, reminder, the people of vestige were living next to highly radioactive egg for likely years. i feel really bad for them :(

also i’ve been mulling over the “we’re Living ex machina!!!!” line and like, it still doesn’t make sense Really, but here’s my Afternoon Musings i guess

i’ve only actually seen ex machina once like 3 years ago but as i remember it goes a little something like This: some rando white-collar programmer guy has like, won a contest where the prize is to go hang out for maybe a few days or a week or so with this ~visionary genius~ tech dude played by oscar isaac at oscar isaac tech dude’s off-the-grid reclusive mansion or whatever.......i thiiiink the Protag Programmer won b/c his programming submission was Really Good but also maybe there’s a [randomly selected] element to it, or maybe we Think it was partly random selection but then learn it was actually All “yeah i chose you b/c your coding was the Best,” idk. doesn’t really matter but anyway yeah protag guy gets helicoptered in to the oscar isaac genius bro’s secret mansion

oscar isaac soon reveals he has this advanced ai android whomst he wants the Protagonist to study / turing test, and the protagonist does that, but during one Conversation Session with this android (who is named ava i think? and designed to Look Like a Woman oo) like the lights turn off and ava-i-think informs the protagonist she’s found a Weakness in the mansion’s security system and hackt it so that the power (and thus the Security / Monitoring Systems) shut down for a minute like this but could feasibly be thought of as a glitch and anyways she’s like yeah i have feelings and thoughts and i want to Not Be Trapped here, ya gotta help me out here buddy, and then yknow ooh the systems come back on, oscar isaac can Observe them again, intrigue.....tl;dr protag and ava keep having these short secret convos and Do plan to break her out, there’s this dramatic moment where oscar isaac (who’s natch been acting weirder and more erratic as the plot unfolds) confronts the protag after the protag has just like, tried to get him blackout smashed by Hanging Out With Him lmfao and oscar isaac is like “ooh i knew you were planning to break her out, i’m gonna stop you guys though haha pwned” but then oh further twist, turns out ava and protag Knew that was the case and were thinking one step ahead and idk but yeah they break her out and oscar isaac dies but ooh further twist!!! ava locks the protag (or well, just Does Not Unlock, As Planned) in some room and leaves the mansion and gets on the Helicopter meant to take the protag back to wherever after the planned end of his stay. and the protag is just stuck there b/c everyone else is dead and presumably he dies as ava gets to exist in the outside world now, idk, we don’t need ex machina 2 where he’s escaped or smthing lmao

and i do NOT get what winston is comparing their situation to lmfao. like, oh rian is like an advanced ai android??? if anything, her being the more like ~true believer in High Finance as a means of socially beneficial effect~ vs winston like, having the supposedly cutthroat and cold Math approach would make Him more of the ~oh no more a robot than a person~ (though i think it’s Ambiguous whether we wanna judge ava as more Scary Bad or Sympathetic).........you can’t even really make the connection that “oh no we’re being deliberately Replaced!!” b/c if winston is [protag programmer rando] and rian is [ava] and wendy is, i guess oscar isaac then, uhhhh oscar isaac most definitely did Not intend to ~replace~ the protag with ava, he very much wanted her trapped in his mansion still........and the protagonist Only got “replaced” by ava in the sense that she took his place on the helicopter out of the reclusive secret mansion. i really doubt she planned to, or would even be able to, like take over his identity/life beyond that.....certainly not his job lol like, coworkers are gonna notice you’re a different person, there was no implication the androids can like oh shapeshift their appearance or whatever, and no implications about what ava even intended to do in the Outside World which is kind of bemusing b/c like, what of the Practical Questions of being an android and needing whatever Fuel Source a robot does, idk that might’ve been addressed or smthing like “oh yeah they can just Eat,” also she clearly does not Trust People considering her only company was evil oscar isaac creator and she wasn’t interested in bringing the protag along, plus yknow the fact that she Did deliberately manipulate the protag into thinking that she wanted to escape into the world With him........but not like i guess she has any choice for any other world to escape into but the one with all the people where she pretends to be an organic human

like there is just NO point of comparison where these situations line up unless you get soooooooo like broad strokes about ex machina that you’d do better to compare your experience to Anything else lmao. like, does winston think she’s some like, ideal advanced version of him?? like you might consider a crafted AI android to be?? i don’t know but i mean i think we have a more feasible explanation for why he’s so Insistent about this totally being Ex Machina, if only b/c as a straightforward comparison i swear to god it doesn’t work lmfao None of these points line up at all with any significance that’s worth insisting on

given that winston’s Apparently Canonically meant to be crushing on rian, and we have his example of ribbing her by calling her “gal gadot’s quirky sister” which is like, okay so the dunk is “you look similar to this famous a-lister who everyone thinks is pretty” and “also you’re quirky, boom” like, i think that could easily be meant as like, a Tell that winston already ~likes~ her.............aaaand it’s also somewhat ~ambiguous~ but i mean i think it’s safe to say that in Ex Machina you may understand the protag as having Fallen For the ai android lady. so maybe we can Understand this invocation of ex machina as being like “ooh person meant to replace me is Attractive but ultimately i think this Overall Situation is a bad thing i shouldn’t feel this way i resent it” like, a bit of a Reach, but honestly it’s way more of a reach to think about applying anything else about this scenario to ex machina, so i could v much believe that the thought that went behind writing this is once again, like, “okay winston’s invoking one thing on the surface level here, but simultaneously he’s already (inadvertently probably) acknowledging like oh also i have a crush on her already”

between this episode seeming to be Setup and the [winston has a Canon crush] and the fact that it probably seems like They Will Fuck A Nonzero Number Of Times or Make Out At Least But It’s Billions So, Might Get A Humorous Cut To [Postcoital] Or A Scene Where They Arrive At Work Together Short Of Breath With Messy Hair And Hickies And Winston’s Got A Hoodie W/ “Property Of Rian” On It Until He Goes "Oh Shit Woops” And Hands It To Her And She’s Like “Oh Btw You Forgot Your Glasses.....Uh You Left Them Here On Your Desk Yesterday I Mean Of Course” And Hands Them To Him And An Unnamed Character Stands Up And Asks “Daily Poll: Who Had Sex With A Coworker Last Night” And Rian And Winston Raise Their Hands Before Going “Oh Wait” And Lowering Them With A Shake Of The Head And A Nervous Cough and i’m exaggerating but you know, the equivalent of the billions writing saying “wwinnnk” at us. i am fine with them having an unsolemn like, quasi-rivals-to-lovers (or -And-lovers) dynamic, even with it being a bit messy in like, still an overall Fun way, where yknow it doesn’t have to be peak epic romance cuz a) that’s just Always true and yet it can still be overall an okay thing even if they don’t quite get it together / mostly just trade sparks and sometimes hook up and b) idk seems like mayybe rian’s character isn’t meant to go beyond this season, so, an inherent limit there if true

i’m like Apologetic for being like “already i like their dynamic even as Romantique and it’s kinda cute and fun and i’m willing to continue to be engaged w/ this as long as the writing doesn’t completely fuck it up” lmao like, i guess i Did inadvertently give myself time to prepare for this exact eventuality b/c of wondering if this exact character would have A Thing w/ winston whenever she showed up and even if i was like “haha the character could show up Anywhere and do Anything and what are the odds, right” i was also like “hmm but i’m going to really think about it though” like, as always, didn’t think i was cassandraing that hard, but truly did do it 4x03 style where everyone else can be like “you never [made the text post or gave any indication you were thinking about “what if whoever she plays and winston have some kind of romance thing going on”]” and i can go “i only thought it but didn’t say it....doesn’t count” but well. i did think it lmao and why would i make it up.......sorry i had such a head start on Getting More Used To This Notion.......some crimes can never be forgiven.meme.......

anyways natch “intense horrible passionate” seems a little foreboding but maybe she was talking about it relative to [any Normal show] rather than the standards we’re used to on billions, where this was all but a Meet Cute, and a kind of quasi coworker rivalry where nobody’s taking it *that* deeply seriously and they also seem to mutually like each other by the end of 5x05 already so how not-amicable can it get. and re: Intense like, maybe the writing in future episodes will totally upend this, but i’d say rian and winston in 5x05, even when “clashing,” was like damn near laidback and chill. neither of them seem at all that pressed, but maybe even a sorta-playful Friendly Rivalry is more “intense” than, say, a dynamic that involves no rivalry at all. imo “Passionate” is just like, okay, so they’ll fuck or at least make out? sure. not sure what to make of “horrible” lmfao maybe again it’s addressing like “this is a lil messy and they’re kinda rivals!!!” like, certainly not an ideal start, except by billions standards it IS weirdly great. rian seeming good-naturedly amused by winston is something we didn’t get from his longtime-coworkers until like, now, sort of, and still not to the degree that anyone has smiled at him as many times as rian did in like that course of [1 min long First Scene Together] wherein also winston always gets off to a way worse start with people lmao............like everything about this seems Way Better And More Dialed Back And Grounded than usual, actually. but it’s that like, point of reference of “what’s Usual for winston and, more broadly, Billions” that maybe explains this weirdly strong language when all in 5x05 seemed chill actually

anyways like i said Sorry For Already Liking Rian/Winston This Much with my head start and all where like, i’m even tentatively looking forward to seeing where this goes, by “tentative” i also mean going [”i’ll kill you” the office.jpg] at billions where i am fully aware that maybe where this goes *is* a mess and not in like, just kind of a fun, non-melodramatic, not-treated-like-a-total-joke-but-also-not-that-big-a-deal way, where 5x05 could seem like Those Halcyon Days b/c everything from here out just devolves into an unappealing disaster.......but this is an unexpectedly solid start imo and like. even if this doesn’t become like this epic romance where they officially date and if rian does eventually depart the show by the end of the season, it can still just be Enjoyable and Fun for the characters and, god forbid, the viewers, where like, you don’t have to demand we be desperately invested with our entire life in this deadly serious heartwrenching epic romance, they can just kind of mess around and enjoy having a mutual attraction w/ this mathy rivalry and etc and it’s neither a tragedy of “the greatest love story of all time torn asunder” Or, truly god forbid,” this is a Whole Mess In A Bad Way b/c winston’s involved and ugh who could Really like him, being at all romantically entangled is an embarrassing mistake surely, ew cringe we hate him............like, cautiously optimistic in how like i always say that a Romantic Arc is just an easy/efficient way to develop both characters and it could certainly humanize winston an ounce in a show that treats him more like a walking algorithmic plot device and the thoughts of any viewers but us are limited to “winston annoying” basically........the show doesn’t seem to treat rian as a joke, so it seems possible that their mutual Romance in whatever way it unfolds could also be Not A Joke, which means winston’s part in it isn’t a joke, so that’s Some aspect of him for people to take seriously, for once..........like, the way his apparently-already-official crush played out in 5x05 *was* funny but it also didn’t seem like oh it’s a joke b/c his feelings are a total joke......it might seem that way if this *was* totally unrequited and going nowhere, but i somewhat get the sense that the interest is mutual even by the end of the ep, that didn’t strike me as a “shove off, it could Never Happen” shutdown from rian there, just like, hold off on that for rn maybe cue to rein it in a little, not just yet........anyways lmao i’m like “oh yeah i started this post about the baffling ex machina thing” but yeah the point is i think so far it’s pretty solid and i like it and am cautiously but [relative-to-billions level of Hopeful] about whatever developments we’re surely gonna get b/c it def sounds like this has Not ended with 5x05, but seriously @ billions i swear to god. yes so far the approach to winston’s crush here and even their unfolding mutual dynamique and dare i say, romantic interest, is being handled with an encouraging level of “this is Humorous but the characters / their feelings are not what’s being treated as A Total Joke or anything,” but who knows what will come next, this is billions and you can’t predict anything. fingers crossed about it all, though

Re-Drafting the 2020 WWE Draft

Note: I will only be putting the superstars who should’ve switched brands or stayed in their respective brands and why. If you don’t see your favorite superstar here it means I agree with the booking decision that was done to switch them to another brand or the decision to let them stay on the brand they were already on. I will be throwing in NXT into the mix just for fun. But it’s Raw & Smackdown superstars going to NXT via free agency.

Billie Kay

Drafted to: RAW/NXT

Okay, I’m already cheating a little bit but hear me out. Imagine Billie in “The Robert Stone Brand” that would just be the perfect match. That team with Billie and Stone, and as long as they recruit more credible talent, would be a fun angle. And if not NXT, I wanted her to stay on Raw. For two reasons. First, I just want “The IIconics” to reunite. Like it was beyond weird to see them split up for no good reason. The second one is, If we don’t get a reunion I want a heated Gentlewoman’s Match between them. Her and Peyton don’t have to have an issue. They could meet in a # 1 contender’s match or a tournament final. I just want them to face off if they’re not gonna reunite soon.

Andrade

Drafted to: NXT (Via Free Agency)

This has been speculated on social media since the draft happened. He’ll probably comeback to NXT and do a Moose-like angle reminiscent of what Impact is doing. Have him comeback with the NXT Title and claim he’s world champion out of the blue. Let me add a little something, I hope he comes back with the original NXT title design with the big “X”. that would be so cool. This booking could thrust him into the main event scene right off the bat while Finn Balor recovers for 6 weeks, at the time of writing, and Kyle O’Reilly as well.

Sasha Banks

I just want her and Bayley to be apart until the Rumble or ‘Mania. I’m not a big fan of this storyline, I honestly think it should’ve happened years ago so it doesn’t personally appeal to me as much. But, if we’re gonna do it right. Let Sasha win the Women’s Rumble and challenger for the Smackdown Women’s Championship and win it. It’s easy to book. But WWE decided to put her on the Blue brand. Hopefully this storyline doesn’t run out of steam at least until ‘Mania time.

Heavy Machinery

Drafted to: RAW/Smackdown

I’m gonna keep this short and sweet, that’s why I bundled Otis & Tucker together. No offense to both men, but they’re only good as a Tag Team. Otis’s win at MITB was different but realistically he’s not gonna beat whoever’s champion whether it’s McIntyre, Reigns, Orton, Etc. They should’ve stayed together on whatever brand. And Otis should cash in on a Tag Team and let them win the tag titles TOGETHER. Apart both men are gonna flounder in the lower singles card.

“The New Day” shouldn’t have split up it’s as easy that. And I know they wanna push Big E to the top but read my “Wave of the Future - Fantasy booking WWE” post here on Tumblr and you’ll know it could’ve been possible still without breaking them up.

I just want his real life animosity with Seth Rollins to become a storyline. As we’ve seen with the Edge/Hardy feud. Real tension makes a good storyline. No other reason than that. I want a hard-hitting but professional contest between these two. They’re professionals after all, I’m sure like with Matt and Edge. They could’ve acted civil enough with each other to put on high-quality matches. And a little side note, Goldberg seems to be on Smackdown so the door is wide open for them still fight each other at a big showcase.

Rey Mysterio

Drafted to: NXT (Via Free Agency)

I just want to see Mysterio Vs. Escobar at a Takeover in a 2 out of 3 falls match for the Title. Is that too much to ask? Santos is running out of opponents, well, credible opponents. Why not inject the Cruiserweight division with probably the Greatest Cruiserweight of all-time in Rey.

Dominik Mysterio

As you might have noticed I split up the Mysterio Father-Son duo. know, I know. He was drafted to Smackdown. But with his Father. I want him to go there alone, on his own. Let him do his own thing, since Smackdown is known as the brand for work horses. Let him have spectacular matches with the likes of Sami Zayn, Shorty G, Daniel Bryan, Etc. This kid needs to pave his own way.

Keith Lee

For the full story, read my Fantasy booking piece. But TL;DR. He could have amazing matches with Sami Zayn and capture the IC title. Defend it until he’s ready to conquer Reigns at the Showcase of the Immortals. I don’t know how they’re screwing him up on Raw but it’s so easy to book “The Limitless One”.

Corbin has done everything he can on Smackdown. Let him be a nuisance on Monday Night Raw. A change of scenery. Fresh matches and just a brand new stomping ground could remedy his already stale character.

As much as I want her to have a legacy run with either of the Blue or Red brand’s title. It’s not gonna happen. So let’s just put her in NXT. Like Rey, she could elevate young talent like Shotzi Blackhart or Dakota Kai for example. Have amazing matches for the rest of her career maybe even win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles with an up and comer from the yellow brand. Just let Mickie do her thing and end her career in a good way.

Bo Dallas

Drafted to: NXT (Via Free Agency)

I wanted to “Bo-lieve” that he was the insurgent. I really did. I loved him as NXT Champion. Well, as we know now “The Insurgent” is Ember Moon. But we can still have come back to NXT. Be a mentor to the younger guys. Maybe even be a top contender for the North American Title. Or if Andrade doesn’t want to come back as a sham delusional champion. Why not let Bo Dallas do that, with the original big “X” NXT title design of course, that would be amazing. Just let us #Bolieve again.

Carmella

Drafted to: RAW

Like Corbin, Carmella needs a change of scenery. She’s doing nothing at the moment. She’s about repackaged as like an “Emmalina” type of character. I think it’s going to work better on Raw since the Red brand is known for having outlandish characters anyway. Maybe a “Fabulous Truth” reunion is in the works too.

Humberto Carrillo

Drafted to: NXT (Via Free Agency)

Humberto had a decent start on the main roster when he first got there but I think he needs to go to NXT. He’s floating around Raw doing random matches. He was part of the Mysterio-Rollins angle but he was nothing more than a footnote. I feel he could be a major player in the Cruiserweight division in NXT. I like the kid he’s so talented. They just have to let him do what he does best and that’s wrestle actually meaningful matches.

Charlotte Flair

Drafted to : NXT (Via Free Agency)

It’s far-fetched in real life or storyline for either main roster brands to not draft Charlotte. But she’s on the shelf right now and it’s quite cool to think that she’d want to sign with NXT because she has unfinished business there. Her NXT Women’s title run was too short for my taste, although in hindsight it resulted in Io Shirai winning the title so that’s good. But I would’ve loved to see her had an extended run in NXT with the crop of talent they have there. She would put on great bouts with Storm, Kai, Lerae and of course Rhea Ripley as well as a one on one rematch with Io Shirai would most likely be in the cards. And hey, Andrade most likely will sign with NXT anyway and they’re a couple and WWE is more open to keeping couples together so that might be a huge factor as well.

Braun Strowman

Drafted to: Smackdown

Reigns needs a credible enough threat after this Jey Uso feud is over. At least until the Royal Rumble. Strowman is the main man to do that. He’s a former Universal champion who didn’t get his due diligence in terms of having the opportunity to earn a rematch to reclaim his title. It’s enough of a reason for him to stay on the blue brand. And besides I don’t want to see him face off against “The Fiend” again over on Raw. It ran it’s course far too long ago.

Hakuoki SSL Kazama Daily Story 1

First post of the month, so I’ll start by asking you to please support me if you can either on ko-fi (https://ko-fi.com/V7V2W0HO) or through paypal (paypal.me/KumoriYami )…. also let me know if you have any hakuoki drama cds that you’d be willing to share that are on my looking for list since i don’t have the audio for those….. I HAVE ADDED MORE CDS WHICH I HAVE TL FOR (though I still haven’t gotten around to cleaning up that list).

I’m going to start by saying mentioning some things.

I’ve been extremely exhausted lately cuz I’m working waaaay more hours that normal so I’m not going to TL anything longer than the ssl short stories done for this month.

I recently gained access to Hakuoki SSL release countdown audio files which are unfortunately no longer on the Otomate Hakuoki SSL website though I could only find 12 of a total 13 translations for said countdown....not sure when i’ll get to those.

I found a translation for the Sengoku Night Blood stuff x Hakuoki interaction event in Chinese that’s in actual text (it’s way too much effort to take text off videos to tl).... but iuno what to do with it since I already have an extremely long list of things I wanna do, though as I’ve never played the game, and only have a passing interest in it, i wouldn’t know what is what and would be relying on MTL for char names and wouldn’t recognize if something is relevant to the Night Blood lore, plus I don’t want to translate anything that someone else might plan on doing....

I’m going to be translating some of the Otomate Hakuoki blog posts for this month.... which I explicitly do not want reblogged as the content originates from Otomate’s websites... which are still active. If they do get reblogged, I will be refraining from posting future translations of them outside of what I have planned for this month and will be deleting them all next month (i’ll be putting this warning up on all of them).

Anyway. Translation. 3 of 7 for Daily Story 1.

This is my second favourite of the daily story 1 stories (after saito’s obviously lol. i feel bad for amagiri... though it’s probably good that kazama was only like this in the yuugiroku games). Also, on a side note, I’ve updated the Daily story 1+3 for Saito with a bit more pics.... still haven’t gotten around to learning how to modify my vita.

Amagiri: A meeting? I heard that you only had lunch together in the school cafeteria……

Kazama: When I looked at her, she was like a small animal [had the appearance of/resembled a small animal], indeed truly lovely.

Amagiri:……I do not think that was shyness[her being shy], but rather fear [showing fear].

Kazama: Amagiri. Sure enough/Indeed, Chizuru is suitable to become my wife/is the right person to become my wife......

Amagiri:…………

Kazama: She is [so] obviously in love, but is quiet about it/yet doesn't want to show it, as usual her behaviour is too cute.

Kazama: Moreover, when I was with her, she was holding herself back with tears in her eyes. She unexpectedly used these/such methods to appeal to me. [iuno????????????]

Amagiri:……No, I, how should I say this……

Kazama: All right, Amagiri. Now we are going to move to the next stage [We shall be moving to the next stage.]. Now that we've had lunch together, we're practically engaged now.

Kazama: It seems that preparing for a 【SURPRISE】 is necessary.She must be/has to be given a very big 【SURPRISE】.

Amagiri: The so called-surprise, meaning[/being?]?

Kazama:Ah......This 【SURPRISE】? As long as you know what a woman dreams of, you'd/you'll understand.

Amagiri:…………

Kazama: It's a wedding dress.

Kazama: Amagiri, get ready. Measurements must first be taken. Don't forget to get me a clothing designer [i got like a -110% interest in fashion design and stuff so if there’s a better term to say this idc and will not know of it lol].

Amagiri: This is/Isn't that...... a bit too much. I believe that doing this/doing these types of things so suddenly, may cause her to feel uncomfortable.

Kazama: What are you saying/talking about. It's a woman's dream to wear a wedding dress.

Kazama: Besides, if it's being given by the man you love, what woman wouldn't like it. [the punctuation in Chinese had these as separate sentences... which didn't make sense so I changed it. Originally: "....man you love. What woman wouldn't like it."

Alternatively this could be read as: Besides, being given this by your beloved man. What woman wouldn't like it.]

Kazama: Ah......That's true/That's true too/as well. We're already in love, so we can directly move to having a wedding/holding a wedding ceremony.

Amagiri:…………

Kazama: Amagiri, go and get a church/chapel ready/go and prepare a church/chapel. Also wedding invitations need to be prepared/a list of who will be invited to the wedding needs to be prepared.

Kazama: Ahahahahaha...... Things are going to get busy.

Amagiri:…………

Amagiri: It's me. Hurry up and prepare now/Make preparations right away.

Amagiri: Yes/Right/correct. As usual/Like before, do everything you can to stop Kazama-sama. Then please/At once please.

I have started looking at the Hakuo Gakuen School Assembly drama.... though I still need help translating about 15(ish?) seconds worth of dialogue since I have no TL for where voices overlap...(going to plan a page for incomplete drama tls in the future since there’s one similar to the “One Inch Samurai” that i reallllly wanna translate but I only have 4/7 tracks of tl for it).

....also im feeling super irritated since one of my translations for a character perspective (something that I put in the post queue since it was almost done. i do that to remind myself of what day i want something posted, even if it’s not done) disappeared from tumblr. submitted a ticket.... but I really hope i can recover at least part of it cuz that particular one had almost 30 sentences translated and I didn’t make a back-up.... *sigh* usually i use nimble writer for my TL documents, but i have a tendency not to when translating short things....

Changes

Hey guys, I was gonna hold off on this, but for the sake of my health, better to get it out of the way.

If you're a frequenter in the Patreon section of the Discord server, you're probably already aware of all of this. If not, here's what's up.

After this chapter is complete, I'm going to stop updating the comic regularly.

That's the big bad news drop. But the important thing is I'm not stopping work on Galebound.

There's some reasons behind why I'm doing this, mainly due to health. The stress of the comic deadlines have taken a toll on my health and I need to make changes to get healthier.

Additionally, the end goal of this project has always been to tell this story, and at this point I would prefer to tell the story in novel form. This will allow me to finish telling the story much faster (months instead of years), and dropping the comic work will give me the time to actually work on the novel. Writing a novel is one of those Life Goal things.

With this plan in place, I'm tentatively setting the completion date for the novel's complete first draft as May 15th, 2020. Frankly that's a very forgiving deadline and I'm hoping to have it done months before that, but I'm trying to be kinder to myself and set smaller daily work goals.

For this month and October, Patreon is on pause so you won't get charged (unless you're a brand new Patron). But starting in November, I'll start it back up as we shift into novel-writing mode. If you were here only for the comic and want to back out, I totally understand. If you wanna stick around, that's awesome and I hope you have fun following Conan to his doom.

With that said, here's the plan going forward for Patreon, the novel, and the comic:

Patreon

I've updated the tiers on Patreon to account for the new format. On Wednesday, I'm going to go ahead and upload the first five chapters of the novel draft there, which will be caught up with the comic story to the end of the chapter. On Oct 1, I'll upload chapter six. Chapters two and on will be Patreon-exclusive until the book is complete. Chapter one will be open to the public as a teaser.

Going forward, I'll release more chapters, exclusive to Patrons, as they're complete (hopefully at a relatively even pace). When Galebound is complete, I'm planning on maintaining this tier for future projects as well (such as Galebound's sequel and...triquel? and other stories I have planned).

Patrons will also have access to WIPs and full-resolution illustrations! Depending on time, I'm considering illustrating the novel, and Patrons will have access to any illustrations I do for it long before anyone else.

The Novel

Once the novel is complete, I'm planning on running a Kickstarter to help pay for the big things that'll push the book to publishing e.g. professional editing and printing. I've got ideas for making things sweeter for long-term Patrons (special edition, perhaps~?) when the novel is published.

The Comic

Possibly against my better judgement, I'm not planning on stopping the comic entirely. However, I need to be smarter with the time I spend on it and not sacrifice my heath. Once the novel is done, I'm planning on slooooooooowly putting out comic updates, completed only as time allows.

For the rest of this chapter, I had originally planned on maintaining my current pace, but my health just won't permit that. Basically, the stress of the update pace has become a trigger for a diagnosed eating disorder and a contributor to lack of sleep. But I do really, really want to finish this chapter because of the thing so I'm not planning on stopping yet. But for the rest of this chapter, pages aren't going to come at a regular update schedule. I want to get them done by the end of this year still, but less regularly.

tl;dr: Comic updates will continue to the end of this chapter, just not regularly. Pages will be posted at noon the day after completion.

Comments

For the rest of this chapter, please refrain from leaving comments regarding the art or character design. I realize that my art has been slipping, mostly due to the aforementioned health issues. Unfortunately, but to the small amount of time I can spend drawing each week, I haven't been able to make designs more ornate, nor have I been able to spend time improving my skillset. This is a huge frustration to me, and I'm aware that while I've grown as an artist, I've hit a limit due to time constraints. So for the rest of the chapter, the art is what it is.

I’m probably not the Best Most Informed person to ask about this stuff but!! here’s the disc horse as I understand it. this is pretty much a tumblr formatted argumentative essay, so buckle up or scroll to the tl;dr as fast as you can.

(I’ll put it under a cut bc 1.) things are gonna get pretty controversial, and 2.) things got Very long Very fast.)

the bg (the intro paragraph)

in fandom, as most people know, people tend to ship characters together. it’s fun to think about what two characters may act like in a relationship, and this gives way for loads of innovative and unique content to be made around ships! communities can be built, friends can be made, and lots of original fan content can be made centered around shipping characters together!

now, everyone has different tastes in ships, whether it be gay straight or somewhere in between, as well as different tastes in dynamics! (take the fave ship dynamics art meme that’s been going around for reference on what that means lmao)

some people may not even like to ship anyone with anyone, choosing instead to focus on lore or more platonic but no less important relationships, which is also just fine!

la problema

there however is copious amounts of people who deem other people’s ships “problematic”.

this in and of itself is not the problem: whether the ship makes them uncomfortable because of:

a large age gap (typically of 10+ years)

one person being a minor and the other an adult

it being an incestuous relationship of any sort (whether by blood or not)

they don’t enjoy the dynamic of the characters (perhaps it’s an unhealthy or simply turbulent relationship)

that is not the problem.

people are allowed to be uncomfortable with pairings! it’s not something they can help! content reminding people of real world issues or trauma are especially touchy, and that’s understandable and completely okay.

people may even be uncomfortable with those that consume that content, whether they have a sound reason or just simply because they don’t like it (they don’t really owe an explanation), and if they should want that content tagged so that they can avoid it, or ask simply that people who like it and post about it not interact with them so that they can further avoid it, that is perfectly okay.

ships can squick people out or even badly trigger them (in the serious mental terminology way not the internet watered down ‘this makes me mad’ way)!

the real problem comes when you have people harassing others for ships they don’t like.

you have loads and loads of call out culture where hundreds of people ridicule targeted shippers for their problematic pairings, calling them pedophiles or incest supporters or whatever buzz word of the day is to make them out to be awful scummy people.

they make call out posts to “expose them”, get people on their side, tell them they shouldn’t enjoy this thing that makes them happy, and in a rather awful amount of cases, send death threats and attempts to dox them/leak their information, things that can ruin actual lives.

all over the enjoyment of fictional pairings.

you can replace “ships” with just “fictional characters” or “stories” and you have anti-fiction discourse, where people harass the fans (or authors/creators!) of specific “problematic” characters or stories the same way they do shippers.

(also, about to get real controversial here, but you could also replace shippers w/ fujoshi/fudanshi and get the same effect. I know that saying fujoshi are gross is the hot new trend, but anti-fujoshi are just as bad as anti-shippers. I’m significantly less qualified to talk on that and I can link some really great posts if you want more info on that mess, but for now I’ll just say I’m pro-fujoshi and go.)

(if you go through the vld ship tags, I guarantee you will run into a lot of this for reference, though tw for death threats and A Lot of them. kl@nce has an infamous anti following, and anti-sh@l@din has a very fervent following as well.)

these people commonly refer to themselves as the broad and catch-all term “anti”. anti-insert ship here, anti-insert character here, anti-insert story here. they are against them, those who create content for them, and those who just sit back and enjoy them.

why that’s bad

at first glance, this seems like a good thing.

after all, people who consume that content must condone it, right? why else would they enjoy it? and if they condone such awful things, they’re awful people and they must deserve whatever happens to them! they’re dangerous! they deserve threats and misery and the loss of their jobs! they don’t deserve to be happy! they don’t deserve to be alive!

this mentality is really why a lot of antis end up being young people with an interest in activism. social activism is a good thing, after all. raising awareness about real problems through a social platform is a good thing.

it also tends to attract young trauma survivors who went through similar experiences as those portrayed in fiction.

not all antis are young/naive. that’s too much of a scapegoat (that they already use themselves too much). there are a lot of adult antis.

however, a lot of anti rhetoric is specifically targeted at minors. some antis will go out of their way to harass adults that make explicit content for other adults, saying that they are predatory for making it because it makes the anti uncomfortable.

I’m not saying I was immune either; for a while I thought that was just.

antis have a tricky way of worming themselves out of responsibility like that, after all. they make the victim out to be deserving of punishment, whatever it may be, whether it be some public humiliation or threats or leasing information that could put them in real actual danger (which is illegal, by the way.)

I never participated in death threats or anything (they made me,, really uncomfortable), but for a while, at very least, the public shaming made sense.

however, this doesn’t actually help trauma survivors. it doesn’t help people that actually go through horrible situations like the ones depicted in fiction. it doesn’t help those who are groomed by pedophiles, or abused by family members, or in abusive relationships.

what it does do is bully and ridicule people for something that inspires them and brings them happiness. people who did nothing wrong.

this is commonly referred to as performative activism.

you take the name of something vile and awful, and use it to say you are doing something for the greater good, a righteous and necessary evil, but really you are doing nothing at all. nothing progressive to help those in need, nothing daring or brave, nothing to make the world a better, kinder place. nothing.

it can be done out of the desire to help, or the desire to make a difference as someone who isn’t sure how, but your intent isn’t the issue on the table. the fact is that anti rhetoric hurts innocent people.

now, I know that there are people who interact w/ my tiny blog who are antis, and actually one of my super tiny follower count is an anti (which I’m a lil sad about bc they have super cool art and a generally positive blog; not to be indirect but I also don’t wanna be like Hey I Don’t Agree With You In Particular. like nah they’re really cool actually and I hope they’re having a chill day), and for you antis reading this, you may be thinking, “sol, I see what you’re saying, but I’m not convinced antis are all that bad!”

well, it’s time for a lil bit of q&a!!

What makes problematic content innocent?

the content itself isn’t hurting anyone.

content, online especially in this day and age , is oftentimes tagged to make sure no one is triggered by the content they want to enjoy. if not tagged, usually descriptions or summaries include warnings. if not in the summary, ratings (like in movies) are also a good indicator of what you should look out for.

let’s say, for example’s sake, someone ends up ignoring the warning and consuming the content anyway, and ends up hurt because of it.

the content is not at fault, the willful ignorance of the person is.

What if they didn’t know to read the warning?

they were still warned. this should be taken as a learning experience, and they should be more careful in the future. it may sound harsh, but not knowing how something works isn’t exactly any excuse. people aren’t exempt from consequences because they didn’t know how something works.

What makes the creators of problematic content innocent?

a lot of people have the misconception that if someone makes content for something, they think it’s okay or would do something like it in real life.

this is not inherently true.

I’m not saying there may be predatory content creators out there, but that definitely does not mean that all content creators that produce things with dark themes always always think that it’s okay in real life.

there is such a thing as exploratory fiction. this is where although you know something is bad and dangerous, you’d like to know more about it and envision scenarios around it from a safe environment. writing or making art won’t leave you with permanent life ruining trauma, but you still get to explore that concept and sate that curiosity.

exploratory fiction can even be used as a coping mechanism for trauma survivors! that’s right!! some of the exact same trauma survivors that antis claim to want to protect and give voices to are some of the people hurt by their rhetoric.

my own traumas and potential anecdotes aside, I don’t really know much about this topic and as such I’ll let other survivors get more in depth/talk more personally if they’d like (as no survivors deals with their trauma the same way), but I know for a fact that exploring something that hurt you badly in the past can be an excellent way for someone to better understand themselves, what they went through, and better cope with what happened.

it may seem like making light of a bad situation, but it’s their trauma to deal with, not anyone else’s. no one can tell them that they’re reacting wrong. if it makes them happy and isn’t inherently hurting anyone, it shouldn’t be taken away from them.

(I’ve seen anti rhetoric directly harm trauma/abuse survivors and for their privacy I won’t name them but don’t come @ me w/ your “But I’m A Trauma Survivor And I’m An Anti” junk. I’m not saying you can’t be a trauma survivor and an anti. I’m simply saying that antis can’t exactly be counted as completely innocent and uwu-unproblematic either.)

What makes the fans/consumers of problematic content innocent?

by reading something or looking at something, did you just hurt somebody?

did you read this book or look at this art and in doing so just ruin someone’s entire life by violating them or some other heinous act?

no. that’s not how anything works ever.

by writing about murder, did someone just take a knife and kill someone? did someone die because they wrote a book? is every murder mystery author actually a murderer?

no. (but that would make an excellent murder mystery novel. an unreliable narrator who is revealed to be the murderer all along lol writing prompt)

by that same token, reading about someone dying doesn’t make you a murderer or as good as one.

people may come to realize things about themselves through fiction, as access to terminology and information may help them develop, but someone can enjoy fiction simply because it makes them happy and they enjoy it.

But consuming problematic content can inspire someone to do something problematic! Fiction affects reality!

taking inspiration from something and putting something into action are two entirely different things.

assuming a person has the presence of mind not to be so susceptible to suggestion that they do everything they see on tv, fictional content on the damn internet shouldn’t be any different.

But what about Jaws? Shark hunting saw a huge spike after its release because people were all afraid of sharks because of it!*

people were already afraid of sharks. people probably already wanted to hunt sharks, dude. what do you think inspired the original movie?

I mean, a huge carnivorous fish with rows and rows of teeth? and it occasionally came up and just took chunks out of people?? it was horror/thriller material just begging to be used.

shark attacks definitely got more publicity because of the success of the movie, but if you think there wasn’t a fear of sharks before Jaws, you’re either super dense or super short sighted.

also, if you think hunters won’t hunt something just because it’s super big and scary, you have never met a hunter. Jaws’ story is not exactly the perfect comparison to the average person minding their business who would never ever consider doing something heinous.

if someone already wants to do something, they will do it whether or not they have fiction to blame for it. they may never consume that fiction and still do it.

they are the screwed up ones, and it is not because they consume screwed up fiction. that is correlation, not causation.

fiction in and of itself does not affect reality. it is the people who use fiction as a scapegoat to weasel themselves out of the consequences for their actions who say it do.

Does that mean that all fiction is exempt from criticism?

hell no. in fact, fuck no.

fiction can still be bad. fiction can be piss poorly written. the characters can be well presented but executed poorly. the designs might be good but they might not make sense. the anatomy might be fuckin wack and the story might not go anywhere. it might just be pure self indulgent nonsense that no one on earth but the creator enjoys.

this does not mean anyone gets the right to completely forget all sense of human decency and make people feel like shit for the things they created.

as a creator, creating stuff is hard. it takes time energy and practice.

some professional artists’ work aren’t really my thing and their work may make me a little uncomfortable to look at, but I’m not all in their comment sections making their days worse. I recognize that they put time and effort into it, and they may not even be too confident about it!!

sometimes the nicest things you can say is absolutely fucking nothing. however, if you have to say something mean, if you have to give those damn two cents, at least recognize that there is a real human being with thoughts and feelings on the other side of your screen, and they’d probably appreciate some manners and maybe some well wishes for the trouble. no sense belittling people when you can uplift them and inspire them to do better instead.

Does this mean you hate antis?

in any other post I would just say yes. I hate their rhetoric and the awful shit they put creators and fans alike through. however, because this post is informative, my precise answer is not technically.

I do not wish harm on antis. I don’t wish death on them. they deserve their privacy as much as anyone, and I won’t harass them though they may harass others.

I think the things that they do is often times abhorrent and I think that their toxicity is largely a contributing factor in how draining fandom culture has become and I hate that. I hate feeling unsafe in spaces meant to be fun and community driven. I hate looking through blogs to make sure I don’t accidentally come into contact with someone who may potentially try to dox me because I read a comic they think is garbage.

however, I don’t think all antis deserve real hatred. some are simply misguided and don’t do this super invasive awful shit. even if they do this awful shit, I still hope they can change for the better and address their issues, apologize even if they can’t/won’t be forgiven, and become happier chiller people who can focus their energy towards better things.

like... I don’t think I hate them as much as I hate who they are right now. despite what another bit of anti rhetoric says, people aren’t static. even if it doesn’t excuse what they’re doing and consequences will find them accordingly, they deserve room to grow. all people deserve room to grow. they aren’t entitled to my forgiveness, nor my time, nor company, but I wish the best for them at the end of the day. I hope this passes for them and they learn better.

* this was a real and original argument I saw to justify fiction affects reality that I saw while I was scrolling someone’s blog. it sucked bc the rest of their blog was pretty positive and cool and I even wanted to follow them but like,, ya know, yikes. they seemed condescending and close minded and I was outta there.

edit: this is actually being posted bc it’s been brought to my attention that the antis have already taken to “calling me out” (lmao okay jan) so like. this is wildin - I’m by no means an influencer (I have?? 8 followers. EXTREMELY EXCITED to see you, a favorite writer, getting into MAG, a fave podcast. IT'S SO GOOD!!! It's only more fun from where you're at. If you're inclined, pls share any of your thoughts re: best character, favorite moments, spooky moment etc

I’m really loving The Magnus Archives!! My favorite genre has first and foremost always been horror! And I’m so very picky! But I really, really love TMA! Usually I don’t even like eldritch type horror, but the writing in TMA is so spectacular and well done that I’m 100% in it to win it here. I listened to like 80 episodes in like 4 days, and now I’m on episode 85. I’ve significantly slowed down due to being busy and wanting to Concentrate on the episodes when I listen, so I try to only listen when I cook or do mindless things (which I can’t do during homework and I’m getting ready to move so I’ve thrown out most of my food, which is why I’ve slowed down a lot). But I’m still really enjoying it! I know generally where it’s going? I see spoilers a lot, so I know who Peter is even though I haven’t actually met him in the podcast outside of statements yet, for example. And I know a general outline of other things that happen, but not a ton in detail. I’m getting there, but I’m not up to date just yet! So take my answers so far with a grain of “not caught up” salt!

Favorite character probably has to be Martin atm. I saw a lot of him before I started the podcast and so developed a bias early on. The weird thing is, I keep expecting him to be like?? Softer and more lenient than he is in canon? Maybe bc of art I saw and how people describe him early on. But just because he often offers tea to Jon and wants everyone to stop being mean doesn’t mean he’s quiet and subservient and has no backbone either! He really has a spine! He’s snappy and sarcastic and holds grudges! He’s extremely petty and capable of being rude sometimes! Just because he wants everything to be peaceful doesn’t mean he’s always sweet and kind, and I really like that. (I hear rumblings about what he’s been up to recently, and I am Worried But Trusting in his decisions). So I like Martin a lot!

Jon has the best voice and I love that he’s usually the narrator. I don’t always agree with his actions, but man, is he good to listen to.

Favorite Spooky Moment is really hard!! There are so many, and they are so very good!! Maybe my favorite episode so far is “A Guest For Mr. Spider”? I really liked the formatting of that. I think I’m going to hear lines from that book in Jon’s voice in my head for a long time. The title alone really gets me. That said, I recently had a conversation with some friends about zip-lining and cave diving and stuff, and I kept flashing back to the episodes about the sisters who get trapped in the cave and also the skydiver who got eaten by the sky. So those have really stuck with me too! I think some of these episodes are gonna sneak up on me in the future when I’m not expecting it.

Oh! And the finale of Season 1 too! I love episodes that are multiple POVs of the same event! Especially in a horror context!

There are so many characters in this podcast that I have some difficulty keeping up with all of them in the statements sometimes. Like, I kept hearing about Peter and it took way too long to realize the Peter I saw whispers about in posts and was Captain Peter who we had already met through statements (though I have not officially heard his voice or anything just yet). Also I kept conflating Mike and Michael for a hot minute there. Those are dumb mistakes to make, but I’m working on it! Speeding through the eps and not sparing the time to really Sit Down and Think about it probably didn’t help, haha. I’m clearing it all up now! I should probably stop looking at posts that involve stuff I haven’t gotten to yet. That would help.

The writing in TMA is so good and distinct that idk if I could ever write fic for it? But I’m very tempted. Definitely not a possibility at least until I catch up though. But I have a lot of feelings about Martin and his canonical unrequieted (for now? idk, it is a tragedy podcast) feelings @ Jon. Also a lot of feelings about the Web, though I wanna learn way more first.

tl;dr I keep listening to Nobody by Mitsuki and thinking about Martin as I do my homework. And I love horror!!!

DIFFERENCE OF GENDRY’S CHARACTERISATION IN SEASON 8 EPISODE 2

content: you heard it - i should be sleeping but i didn’t. i watched the leak episode. i’m not fully conscious enough to make a full review of it, but i’ve focused my entire thoughts about gendry because i’ve been sort of hung up regarding him since there was an image spoiler a few hours beforehand. so here are some lines i’ll be drawing and refuse to take as part of my writing of him.

trigger warning: got spoilers, rape, sexual assaults.

things i'm willing to incorporate into my writing:

001 gendry has been busy making the weapons he should’ve been making instead. i like that he doesn’t necessarily prioritise arya’s, even if it was specially requested from her; it means he knows the exact reason why he was being brought to north - that was to supply the fighting men in winterfell with weapons just in time for the invasion. he had a job to do when he arrived, and he stuck to it. that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to do arya’s nor made sure he’d made it well for her; just that he’d saved it up for later.

002 it’s hot in the forge, my dudes, so the reason gendry was wearing a thin-layered of tunic wasn’t because he was trying to impress arya. it’s just naturally hot when you’re close to the fire most of the time, which he was, and i’ve had had a thought-out headcanon before that gendry naturally runs warm, body-temperature wise. so yes, i accept this as canon, but not out of any intention to allow nor encourage any sexual behaviour.

003 gendry is strong. he took a hammer from arya and struck it down with one swing against the bark and walk away like it’s fucking nothing. that’s canon and i fucking like it.

004 gendry does give arya her weapon personally. and he is impressed that she’s done well in herself as an armed woman considering he’d known her as a girl who was still so reckless while they’re-on-the-lam, but rather than complete awe, i think, like the show has been portraying, i might add a tinge mix of confusion and worry. gendry will always be plagued by the guilt of leaving her, and probably never quite stop blaming himself for the things that she must’ve endured alone afterwards. and he knew that, with such precise control of her skills, she didn’t develop it easily. so yes, he worries. and not just contemplative.

things i’m NOT willing, nor ever, going to incorporate into my writing:

001 gendry does visit arya later to deliver the weapon she’s asked, but he won’t be as freely to have told her about his ancestry nor her experience with the red woman. ( still, i like how joe said, “she wanted my blood. for some spell.” so i’m taking that as canon if he should ever explain it. ) this is because i see gendry as a very private person. all his life, up until arya, was him defending and protecting himself: that means he carries his anger and worry and concern all on his own without having to think that relying on people could be an option.

and while arya changed that particular point of view, when he began to trust her and they’ve developed that equal camaraderie and partnership while they’re on the run, this is not the same arya that he knew. gendry will tell bits and pieces, yes, i won’t deny, but see: how they’ve made arya as being the one to ask him all the questions. gendry doesn’t trust this behaviour. and he hadn’t before ( see: his first meeting with ned stark when ned asked him questions, and he seems closed off. ), i don’t understand why he should be suddenly okay with it now.

of course, one may argue it’s because they were friends before, good friends even. and i agree. gendry has always held a certain torch for arya. but again: this isn’t the same arya that he knew. and i know the show’s portraying him as hideously dumber than he is, but if gendry can detect arya was a girl when they were kids — before they were close, mind you — i think he would’ve had suspicion that arya isn’t the same. gendry would want an equal footing in this relationship once more, i would believe; because it’s what they had before, and what he wants to continue in the future.

this means, he gets to ask his own questions and have them be answered before he could re-trust arya again. if arya deflects, so will he.

002 gendry does not engage in a sexual relationship with arya. okay, i feel like i shouldn’t have to explain this, but i will: so gendry was raped. he was sexually assaulted, and he is traumatised by it. i know this doesn’t mean that gendry shouldn’t allow himself to indulge with further sexual relationships if he means it, but ... this wasn’t meaningful. again, referring to the above reasoning mostly that,

reason one. gendry doesn’t know this arya. yes, they’ve shared a large part of their history with one another, gendry and arya even grew together for a few years on the road, but gendry didn’t return the same ( see: how he’s become more of an active character than passive, which he was before when he was a boy, regarding his place in the social hierarchy ), so why should arya does?

reason two. and again, i will repeat: gendry is a very private person; reclusive, almost. wary and guarded easily with people he doesn’t know. he’s had good reasons to be like that, too, considering his background and his experiences at being tossed aside from one guardian to a captor etc. in the books, he has refused to engage with women who are flirting with him. i chalk it up to the fact that gendry just has an abundant sense of distrust.

and referring back to the first reason, gendry has yet to trust this arya. of course, there was that basis of their past that didn’t make him completely wary of her, but... at the same time, why should he? so far, arya has given him no reason to. she wasn’t like the girl he used to know, and up until then, she has given exactly zero information on where she’d been or how she’s changed. arya is now just a lady who wore the face of a girl he knew, and sometimes smiled at the jokes that they’ve shared. but she’s not the same, and she doesn’t seem willing to open up to him about it.

so yes, when there’s lack of trust, there would’ve been lack of motivation for him to pursue or agree to arya’s offer.

reason three. gendry is and always will be wary of his status. it doesn’t matter whose son he was: he is a mere smith, and he is uneducated, and he is a lowborn. he knows this. this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. it’s just who he is, and gendry’s long accepted this. with that said, no matter how much he jokes or teases arya about it, arya is a highborn. gendry just wouldn’t fuck with that, okay? a kiss, or a long hug, if you want to show that he’s attracted; but sex in a fairly public place where, you know, he could’ve gotten killed if anybody just passed by and saw, is not going to go. gendry’s been taught for about most of his life of his place in the hierarchy system, those sort of teaching just doesn’t fly out of the window one night.

although of course, you may argue on two basis (1) that lust can make people do stupid shit, and (2) lust to add with “the end of the world” trope makes them even stupider. i agree. however, this is arya. as much as gendry doesn’t know this new version of her nor trust her, as per reason one and two, that doesn’t mean he’s just going to defile her like that. not only was he compromising his place as a smith brought by the kindness of jon, who was king then, but he’s also risking her reputation as a lady. she may not care, fine, but he does. he always have, and he always will.

reason four. back to the meaningful thing, yeah. just. gendry is already someone who needs absolute trust for him to finally be comfortable enough with someone for him to freely complaint, let alone sexually be involved with, but past his rape and sexual assault makes it worse. also the way arya treated him? all cold and harsh and quite mechanical ( sorry tv!show arya, but it’s true ) and her quickly assuming the dominant / top position without speaking with him? it’s not going to work. gendry’ll faster gets a panic attack and run the hell away to make sure he’s not bounded to the wall than to indulge her, no matter who she is or who she’s been to him.

reason five. probably a summarisation of all the reasons above, but he’s demisexual as fuck. he cares for arya, yes, but he doesn’t know her enough, in my writing, post-reunion to trust his body in her hand.

003 gendry had not slept with other women. after melissandre, he becomes even more reclusive and private in king’s landing. i wanna add more on the fact that seeing women and having meaningless sex with them is also coming from the fact that he watched his mom getting groped almost daily when she was working (when he was young) was what rooted this dislike towards men just coming blindly after girls, but that’s another headcanon for another time. regardless, gendry is — technically — a virgin.

004 gendry is not this dumb. i swear to god. he is a simple boy, yes, and a lot of time in his narration he refers to himself as “stupid”, but he’s not. gendry is a complex, though maybe not as complicated or as many layered as others, character who is equally thoughtful and logical and smart in his own way. a friendly reminder that, a lot of times, in the books, arya has acknowledged several times that gendry was correct and that she was wrong. he’s not just some dumb sidekick who’s got all the muscles. the tv show should stop writing him as so, and i won’t be writing him like that here.

how do you feel about Fenro? do you think it has a chance when it comes to character development?

OKAY so i have been trying to figure out how to answer this without going on a whole ass tangent but however i cannot so read more it is fellas let’s do this

basically my feelings on fenro are….well i don’t wanna say complicated because i do REALLY love it and can’t deny that, even if i don’t post a lot of it here BUT i am gonna say that i’m not a huge fan of how a lot of people portray it and that might be because i tend to get super attached to how i see certain dynamics?? but still i feel the need to go off a little bit about that

let me start this off by saying one thing: as of now, fenton and gyro’s relationship is one of the most interesting things in the show to me and not even in a ship way, i just really love their scenes together and seeing them interact because hey they’re my two favorite characters! what’s not to love?

however, the fandom interpretations kinda throw me off because when i see content of these two it’s either like…..gyro currently in the show having a thing for fenton and being hard on him because he likes him or whatever OR gyro just straight-up being unforgivably terrible and awful to him for no damn reason to the point of where he’s portrayed as an antagonist

and both of them are extremely fuckin oocfirst of all, the whole “tsundere” gyro thing is kinda….weird imo? i mean, yeah he’d probably be the type to deny his feelings at first because he’s a pretty closed off person but it’s such an overly exaggerated and boring way to go about this whole thing

gyro and fenton currently have a looong way to go like i don’t think they hate each other in the slightest (frank more or less confirmed this) but there definitely is a lot of tension there so anything romantic happening that soon feels weird to me and super uninteresting compared to the other options

in order for this to work, it would have to be a LONG way into the future but that’s still possible! one thing i find super interesting that nobody ever brings up is that their whole dynamic just changed: they’re on the same level now because they both work for scrooge, gyro has no right to boss fenton around and they’re going to have to learn how to work together as equals and develop a friendship from there

THAT’S WHY I FIND THEIR RELATIONSHIP IN THE SHOW SO INTERESTING AND NOBODY EVER PLAYS WITH IT and that makes me irrationally mad like i’m literally counting the DAYS until we get to see them interact again with this new dynamic and i know for more or less a fact that we’re gonna get some good development out of their relationship this season and everyone just….doesn’t…..talk about it……they just pull some “lol gyro is a jerk to fenton bc he likes him xD” crap AND THAT’S REALLY NOT IT MAN JUST LOOK AT THE POTENTIAL THESE TWO HAVE THAT YOU’RE WASTING ON THAT AWFUL CLICHE TROPE

now that i’ve covered that bad interpretation, let’s move on to the second take because boy it really makes me mad too!!! now i’m not trying to deny that gyro is WAY too damn harsh on fenton because he definitely is and i haven’t seen anyone try to ignore that (if they do then they’re wrong bc gyro’s an asshat)

gyro is…..not the best socially, as we all know, and he has the tendency to act like he’s above everyone else and this is definitely portrayed with how he’s treated fenton thus far and he needs a stern talking to and lesson on how to treat people the way they deserve to be treated bc damn he’s got some issues!!! but i have no doubt that will happen because the crew has nothing but positive words for gyro

however, like……okay i am really trying to think of a way to word this that doesn’t make me sound like i’m dunking on fenton bc I’M NOT HE’S SUCH A WONDERFUL CHARACTER AND GENUINELY NICE PERSON but sometimes his attempts to be helpful kind of…….are things that would make a reasonable person angry? and gyro already has a short fuse so like how else is he gonna react when he finds out someone posted his secret information online and got it stolen or that someone’s sneaking around with an unstable invention of his and doing stuff with it that he said not to do?

this ties in with the whole thing where people infantilize the shit out of fenton and refuse to see him as an adult and instead think he’s some poor wittle defenseless baby who can’t stick up for himself uwu so he needs someone to save him uwuwuwuwu which…HOO BOY I DON’T LIKE THAT ONE BIT

fenton is a bit of a pushover who tries to hard to help others, yes, but how can you watch who is gizmoduck and think he’s 100% defenseless against gyro??? the whole episode is about him pushing past misconceptions and standing up for himself so why do you think he’d have a problem telling gyro to go fuck himself if it came down to it like HE EVEN KIND OF STOOD UP TO HIM IN THAT EPISODE JUST. GOD. FENTON ISN’T HELPLESS Y’ALL HE’S A 25+-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO WANTS TO SEE THE BEST IN PEOPLE BUT ISN’T AFRAID TO TELL SOMEONE OFF WHEN THEY DESERVE IT

kinda backtracking here but fenton’s whole thing is that he wants to help people but he’s too impulsive with how he goes about it and it winds up wrong and yeah it’s the thought that counts but that’s such an interesting part of his character and others overlook it to make it seem like gyro continuously torments him or something which he really…..doesn’t, he’s not very nice to him at all but people really take it too far sometimes and act all Edgy about it and it’s a terrible take for both of their characters

honestly what’s interesting about these kind of relationships is that you get to watch them grow and look back in a few months or years at a season 1 episode and think “aww! look how far they’ve come” and it’s gorgeous

fenro couldn’t possibly work as anything other than a REALLY SLOW BURN i mean like REALLY SLOW but y’know?? slow burns are my JAM so i’m on board! i just really wish more people felt the same way about it instead of rushing it when they haven’t even gotten to the friendship stage in canon yet

i love where this is going and am too hyped for words to see how they’re gonna interact now that they’re on equal grounds and gyro is gonna be confronted with the fact that he can’t act like he’s above fenton whatsoever anymore (tbh i really think fenton’s gonna do the confronting himself bc like i said, he can do that y’all!!! he can stand up for himself when he’s pushed too far and you all gotta realize that and stop treating him like he’s a baby!!!!!!)

these two are my favorite characters in the show and i trust the crew to give us some good content of em and to develop their relationship in an interesting way because i have yet to be disappointed in any of the other character dynamics they’ve fleshed out and i know whatever they do is gonna kill me

also my friend and i may or may not currently be writing a fic about all of this but i’ll leave that for y’all to find on your own ;)

SO TL;DR: YES. IT DEFINITELY HAS A LOT OF POTENTIAL AND I THINK IT’S GONNA GET SOME NICE TASTY DEVELOPMENT IN SEASON 2 BUT PEOPLE IGNORE THE DEVELOPMENT PART AND IT MAKES ME ANGRY
