While I'm still in my shadow ban era here, I figured I'd take a moment to share something I've been on the fence about sharing here anyway... hahaha!

Sort of FFIX related? It has Kuja and Sal in it, at the very least. 😅 Particularly Sal, though!

A little while back, I took the time to mix and match + sculpt and retexture both the Dissidia NT models of Tifa and Rinoa to entertain some idea of what Sal may look like in 3D!

I actually had a previous model that was a slightly modified Larxene bust with modified Rinoa hair that I used for Sal as a reference, no textures. I felt like building upon that one day and, well, here we are!

I just… wanted to see what they'd look like T-posing next to one another...!

The model is SO broken, so I won't be doing anything in full 3D soon, trust me. Haha!

Learning how relatively easy it is to sculpt out 3D forms in Blender has since inspired me to entertain the idea of building some refs for other characters from scratch, though! Like Mina and Branson, for example. 🤔 Their head shapes are very particular and it'd be nice to have some models to use as reference for them. Same with Survit! (Kuja's silver dragon, in my tales.)

Since I'd be using them as art refs, I'm not sure I'd stress myself out trying to map textures and all that for them as they'd be from scratch and probably a lot harder for me to figure out, but you never know with me...

I know I always bitch about volunteering for dog events after we put on a big one but I'm going to bitch about volunteering for dog events.

Tldr: Treat your volunteers nicely or they'll quit.

There are certain people at our events who have strong opinions on how lure opping should be done and they are not shy about sharing criticisms. They're all the super hyper-competitive Whippet People. And like, I'm human. I mess up sometimes. If I don't stop the lure deep enough over the finish line that is 100% on me and I generally go "oh fuck" when it happens. I don't make that mistake often (like, once or twice a year), but it happens-- and it specifically happens because I really don't want to run the super fast dogs into the back wall, so I slow the lure early because judging distance is hard.

The non-Whippet People will let me know, I'll apologize, they'll say 'great!', and then we'll move on with our lives. The Whippet People will let me know, and then they'll ask their friends to let me know, and then every time they walk past me for the rest of the day they'll go "now remember that the dogs have to be going full speed over the finish line!" And they'll also bring it up the next day. Multiple times.

I asked a whippet person (lowercase letters) who lure ops for advice and she was like "yeah it happens" and gave some good advice and said I'm doing a good job. She said everyone messes up sometimes and shared a couple of her goofs.

So I don't need people to say thanks or give me accolades or anything. That's not why I'm volunteering. I volunteer because I enjoy dog sports, and dog sports run on volunteers, and if people stop volunteering then there will be no more dog sports and that will suck.

But I am not going to lie, when certain people, who do not lure op, only offer criticism, and bring that criticism up over and over and over, including when I am not making mistakes, and they never ever mention when I am doing a good job, which is the vast majority of the time, it makes me want to say "okay, you fucking do it" and walk to my car and drive home.

It's a bit funny that to parts of my circles I'm 'the fandom one'/'the fanfic one'/'the shipping one' as the person they know most prominently into such things

because as much as i love writing my fics and shipping my ships my interest in both of those things is, I think, very narrow and specific compared to most people who are into them? due to my habits being like. very particular

#i think some ppl think of me as ahh my buddy who is always reading fanfic and i'm like. look. i would LIKE to be that. but i'm not #it's comically difficult to get me to sit down and read a new fanfic. for no discernable reason #the fandoms i like to read for don't even have big fic scenes but i've still checked out such a narrow portion of them #(and these fandoms are like. just a few. leaving aside MiA's dead tag. actually now that the clique thing is a few days old, i didn't really get involved for a reason and I don't feel super strongly in either direction

but I will say that like. while there's certainly a problem of less interaction on the fanworks/posts from less popular blogs, this isn't really a byler exclusive issue? this happens in most fandoms these days, interaction is just on a decline in general which IS. a problem but not really a "byler tumblr is cliquey" problem. in regards to any actual cliques I wouldn't say they don't exist but I don't think it's "the popular kids" themselves doing this. I don't know if the rest of you have some other bloggers in mind that I don't know about, but as someone who is mutuals with a fair amount of who I thought were the popular blogs, they are always very nice and welcoming to me, and actually easy to talk to once you just. see them and talk to them as a normal human and not an omnipotent fandom god. so this is all to say that if there's a clique issue I think it's from the outside. I think maybe people are perceiving these bigger blogs who all happen to be friends as these untouchable idols in fandom and it's. making it cliquey from the outside. like are they a clique or have you just convinced yourself they wouldn't want anything to do with you and isolated this group from everyone else. this isn't to say that people can't be assholes of course just that I don't think any of this is intentional

#I think a lot of post interaction problems are also just probably coming from the fact that I don't think anyone checks the tag anymore #I certainly don't. I just keep up with what my mutuals are posting #and my mutuals are posting their work and they're sharing their friend's work or the work their friend shared from someone else #so if you're a little known blogger it can just be harder because. your posts just aren't making it as far you have a few followers #and they have even fewer. and so unless you get an anomaly popularity boost it'll be harder for a post to get traction #also “it's a clique bc all the popular blogs are friends and only associate with each other” well they have been friends for months #or a year now. and also probably were not as popular when that friendship started #so it's more like. a friend group forms and then when one of you gets a popularity boost so do the others bc you're friends #and then next thing you know it's a friend group of popular bloggers #anyway. all this to say get out and make some friends! either I'm right and this will actually fix the problem #or there really is a clique in which case why tf would you want to associate with them anyway #but genuinely this is rich coming from me actually known to most as godawful at talking to people irl #but it's really so simple to make tumblr friends it just requires you to be a little brave and genuine #if you see someone posting a lot of cool stuff follow them!! and then get in their askbox and talk to them about something #if they have an au you really like talk to them about that if they have some music they've been posting about check it out #and tell them what you thought! #just like. be friendly and open they'll probably respond in kind and next thing you know you have a really cool friend #anyway if you're one of my mutuals and you saw me like a post the other day or whatever that might feel contrary to this #well the other day I was just watching things go down lmao #I didn't care what any posts said I was busy with my own discourse lol #(and also if you're ANOTHER mutual wondering wtf this post is about don't worry about that) #idk I think I just. haven't really witnessed cliquey behavior but I see posts about this with enough notes #that sometimes I think. well you guys gotta be experiencing SOMETHING so idk. idk #I guess this is another “some people just have friends” post #anyway I think a good thing to remember here also is that we're arguing about popularity on Tumblr Dot Com. brother we are bloggers #and we're calling it cliques. like a highschool movie

this is kind of me still marveling at that i can make gifs that look like this now but also i am just. thinking thinking thinking about how Afraid of salazar henry is, is all. what a flinch. he didn't even see salazar kill anyone he just Knows that he did and the rest is the immense vibes of Bad coming off this thing that is entirely too far into his personal space at all times

#many things this movie does w/ salazar that i don't enjoy. #i DO think it's really interesting that there are exactly zero junctures at which henry isn't petrified of him #a lot of like modern (late 2010s-forward) blockbusters tend to have this aura of quippy one-liners right #which dmtnt absolutely falls prey to i'm not saying it doesn't #but one key difference (to me) is how many of those other movies will have their plucky action guys like #attempt banter or undercut the villain by just. being immune to their presence? #which works in some movies!/with some protags! absolutely some movies do perfectly well with heroes who just #spoil the Drama of it all you know? it's definitely a potentially functional trope #but it's became so common it was like. it's expected now almost? and so many action heroes just #do not give their villains due credit for being like. serial murderers or genocidal war criminals or figures of mass destruction you know? #like *we* know they're the main character and probably aren't going to die in the first (checks notes) fifteen minutes of the movie #but *they* shouldn't (always) be cognizant of their plot armor #so i just. really think its neat that at every turn any time salazar is on screen or someone mentions him henry goes a little pale and look #like he would rather be talking about something else #that's all #dreaming up things to say & never quite saying them ( my edit. ) #oh maybe #blood tw #i'm sorry i forgot to tag first go

I thought it was over but of course not. Every time I see a post on my dash about this ship starting harassment (on BOTH sides, everybody sucks here and you should all be ashamed) it takes away any semblance of motivation I was starting to get to get back to reading and translating the katfl novel (and motivation already comes and goes with me, hyperfixation stuff. This just makes me want to stay away from Kirby until things finally calm down again, though)
