Headcanon that Skye starts saying "ugh okay MOM" to May when May is being The Adult in all their various domesticy team situations (particularly as Skye's CO), at least once they are comfortable enough around each other to appreciate (read: good-naturedly tolerate) sarcasm from each other. But then by the time she's Daisy, the sarcasm is more half-hearted in her voice, warmer and barely covering the longing and unstated love. May's orders become more like motherly wisdom and her eye rolls are paired with her subtle smile. And eventually the pretense drops and what was once a jab and then an inside joke is now something like a nickname. And eventually, at the academy, everyone new in May's life assumes the photo on her desk is her daughter. And, she is. Maybe not something as formal as adoption and paperwork, nor even a fuzzy heartfelt conversation, but things with them didn't ever need formality to be real anyway. They know.

May in S5 saying she “can’t see it” in regards to being a mother AS IF SHE HASNT BEEN A SINGLE MOM WHO WORKS TWO JOBS WHO LOVES HER KIDS AND NEVER STOPS FOR 5 SEASONS STRAIGHT ALREADY TO THE BUS KIDS (and basically all the other SHIELD agents too at this point let’s be honest). Like ma’am you are already a mother to several chaotic disaster children, there are no doubts about that.

Best Mama May Fics
A new recruit mistakes Daisy and May as mother and daughter. Nothing Daisy can say will convince him otherwise, and it kind of hurts to try.
She’d missed the tremors, the faint rumbling of the floor that shook the bed and rattled the drawers of the dresser. She knew it could only come from one place: Daisy.
After catching a bullet to the leg on a mission gone awry, Melinda May begrudgingly directs her protégé to the nearest safe place while they wait for extraction. Daisy is thrilled.
Skye gets hurt on a mission and needs surgery to fix her arm. The anaesthetic makes her distressed and there's only one person she wants to make her feel better; enter Mama May.
May and Daisy take a trip off base, but encounter somebody from Daisy's past in the foster homes.
After having been away on her 'vacation', May returns to find a very different Skye to the one who she had left after the incident with the inhumans on the ship. In all the chaos and the clean up in the aftermath, not to metion her best friend being swallowed by a big alien stone, Daisy has been flung into emotional turmoil and has turned to a very dangerous coping technique to keep her above the water.
“It’s not an order. The next few weeks, or months, or however long you decide to take off for is your vacation time, and I’m not going to try to make you spend it any way you don’t want to.” Coulson stood and took a few steps closer to her. “Skye… it’s crazy sometimes, how much she reminds me of you.” He looked away, his eyes sad and far away. “They all remind me of us, before…” he didn’t finish. He didn’t have to.
“Before life happened,” Melinda finished solemnly. “You’re afraid this is her Bahrain.” Her voice was quiet and rough as she looked at him. When he finally looked her in the eye, May suddenly felt very old. And tired. God, she was tired.
May wants Daisy to come see the house she's bought in preparation for her post at the Academy. Daisy doesn't want to go because it feels like acknowledging the end of something. May has a surprise that makes Daisy see it differently.
After the events on the Illiad, Skye's still recovering from almost dying at the hands of Jiaying. A heavily medicated Skye and an amused May face facts: May's a much better mother to Skye than Jiaying ever was. Fluff ensues.
And within the four walls of a bedroom that is not hers, she will allow herself to fall apart. She will allow herself to break, but she will put herself back together before the sun rises and in the morning she will go about her day as if she isn't missing a part of herself.

OK can we talk about this scene????? (gif by daisyssousa sorry my friend i don’t know how to tag you on the app)
I feel so sad that this duo didn’t get more screen time but this scene totally crushed me. We all know they loved each other since the begging, they cared about each other, but before this it feels more like a typical asian mother-daughter relationship (no offense to the asian mother-daughter relationships) . They keep their emotions close to themselves, you know there’s love in them but there’s also distance. The mother will always put her love in action but never truly express it to her daughter. And the daughter, gradually, will do the same for her. It’s like there’s a thin paper between them that need to be pierced. And this scene did this perfectly.
I kinda liked they wrote May as a person who can feel other’s emotions (there should be an actual word but because my poor English i just can’t find it in my head). In this case, she could finally feel those unspoken words from Daisy, the happinesses, the worries, the love.
The emotions was so strong so she can’t help but projected them. Is there only projection? I don’t think so, the suppressed feeling for all those years exploded, triggered by that girl in front of her who loves her with her whole heart. For the first time we saw May showed this level of intimacy and affection to Daisy on the screen. And this is the one poke that broke the thin paper. It’s a new start, just like Daisy said. And I’d like to see the aftermath very much but I don’t think we still have the chance.
OK enough of my babbling! I just think this scene is so precious and everyone needs to see it :P (and I really need to work on my English)

May and Daisy, and building steadiness and security in the midst of it all.
Daisy let her shoulder sink sideways against the doorframe, staring unseeingly at the wall of cabinets and trying to shake a humming, dazed buzz from her brain. They were going to have to go through these, at some point. He’d taken care of most of his stuff beforehand, had had enough time for that kind of preparation, but there was still some minor stuff left, things that needed to go where they were going.
May had made some headway already, weary and steady, working through those sleepless nights she probably thought no one had noticed. Probably. You could never be completely sure with May.
Daisy prodded experimentally at the heavy, hollow ache in her chest and squeezed her eyes shut, shoving her shoulder harder against the wooden grain. She felt untethered, lost in some quiet, inarticulate way, but the ground was solid beneath her feet. Nothing in her was screaming to run. Not from this.
“Hey.”
Daisy blinked out of her stupor, twisting around to look over her shoulder. May had come up behind her, still save for the one hand worrying uncharacteristically at the edge of a sleeve. There was something soft about her like this, lacking the hard frame of her jacket and the extra inches from her boots. Daisy was still getting used to it. May looked more weary than ever, eyes still warm if you knew what to look for, unwary like it was the easiest thing in the world. Something in her expression made Daisy tilt her head in a question -- it looked like she was chewing over something, wrestling with something that didn’t have any harsh edges.
A beat passed. May shifted her weight a little awkwardly and then held out an arm, an invitation. “Come here?”
Daisy blinked again. “May?”

Jemma is physically incapable of doing a cartwheel and no one knows why
Daisy sometimes screams at the sky and everyone’s used to it by now
May has reading glasses but never lets anyone see them
Sometimes Fitz just leans his chin on Jemma’s shoulder while she’s working and watches her
Phil makes them do a big family hug every time they go on a mission *just in case*

Every so often I remember that Coulson, Mack and Daisy weren’t alive in the timeline where the world was destroyed, and that the rest of the team had to go through losing them.
Above all, I keep imagining May mourning both Coulson and Daisy (with May seeing Daisy in Robin every time she looks at her) and that truly is hitting me the hardest. I am not okay at all. Good night.

May's potential betrayal from Daisy's perspective isn't talked about nearly enough.
Tumblr media
When you think of the character that would take the hardest hit, obviously Coulson is the first to come to mind. They have the history, the established and complicated relationship, and we see the anger and the fallout of that single moment where he doesn't know whether he can trust her or not.
What’s not really dwelled on, however, is Daisy's reaction.
She and May might not have the same kind of history or well-defined relationship, but there is something there. Something you'd imagine to be pretty important to a girl who's never had a stable "home", let alone a positive female/mother-like role model. If May had ended up being the Hydra mole, this image she'd constructed of her, this almost unwavering belief in her would've crumbled.
During the confrontation scene, you can even see the fear on Daisy's face. She's not mad like Coulson is or even scared in the same way Fitz is, she looks genuinely heartbroken and betrayed because not only did she look up to May, but in order to get closer to her she had to open herself up in a different way than she did with the rest of the team (essentially compensating for how two people might open up to each other seeing as May wasn't doing any of it) and for someone who grew up the way Daisy did, opening herself up that way left her incredible vulnerable, and for that to be wasted like it might've when she was younger and naive is terrifying to her.

The nuns had called her Mary Sue Poots. She had hated that name. Who in their right mind gives a kid such a horrible name? She had been called trouble-maker, rebellious, problem child and so much more. When she ran away, she chose a new name for herself – a name that didn’t make her feel insignificant. So, she became Skye. But it was a lie, she knew that. She was not Mary Sue; she was not Skye; looking at her reflection in the mirror, she wondered – Who Am I?

your lie in april
Tumblr media
Melinda May was a mom once.
But ‘happy ever after’ doesn’t always mean ‘forever’. Sometimes it just means time. Or in their case: a little time.
OR:
One April day, in the spring of 2008, Melinda May met a really weird pianist. Her name was Skye.
