a little lovesick satoru drabble after that horrible suna one, i really hope this is better.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
"oh god, here he comes." shoko sighs as gojo is nearing you, geto following close behind. you look over your shoulder and quickly turn back when you see the white haired, extremely annoying male.
"y/n-channn!!" gojo sings and throws himself on you, giving you not an inch of space to breathe with how he pushes his head and hair on your nose.
"hello satoru," you push him but fail to make him move so you pull his hair.
"OUCH! why would you do that to meee!?" gojo whines and stands up, turning around to look at geto who's grinning, amused by the situation.
"don't laugh at me! i'm suffering here." he pouts and shoko lets out the laugh she had been holding in.
"it couldn't have possibly hurt that much. stop overreacting." you say which only seems to make him sadder.
"now you announce me a drama queen, how will my heart ever recover?" he raises his hand to cover his face dramatically, contradicting himself. he never misses to give you an oscar worthy acting, so talented they would hire him to play in a shakespeare theater if he applied.
"you'll be fine." you mutter and open your book again, mumbling a curse under your breath when you realise you lost the page you were on.
"see, now i have to go through all the book to find my page." you sigh but gojo doesn't seem to care, still busy whining about how rude you are towards him.
"you never act this way with shoko, or geto. he's much less handsome than me- no offense bro." he turns at geto, who doesn't seem to mind the comment enough to argue back. it's just gojo and his usual dramatic-ness after all.
"because shoko is my best friend and geto is a really nice guy, who is definitely more handsome than you by the way." satoru quite literally throws himself on the ground after hearing those words come out of your mouth.
"i'd rather die than hear those words again coming from the love of my life." he closes his eyes. he looks like the people playing dead to fool a bear.
"i told you to stop calling me that, and it's the truth, he's much much more handsome, and cool, and strong.." you start counting but gojo cuts you off.
"i'm gojo satoru, mind you! the one with six eyes and stuff you know. i'm literally the coolest and the strongest."
"this is why they don't like you back." shoko chuckles and you sigh, putting your book down again. he doesn't look like he'll let you read at all.
"gojo-" "satoru, please. i want my love to call me by my name." "i am not your love, satoru, please leave me alone. i already told you i don't like you." he has called you a sadist multiple times. even 'the cruelest person on earth'.
"you do, actually." he smirks, "you looooove me. how could you not?"
"i currently do not feel anything positive towards you. i might start hating you if you don't get up soon." you'd be surprised how quickly he gets up after that.
"no, please don't! we still have to marry and buy a house with pets and raise kids together-" he gets on his knees and hugs your legs in front of him.
"slow down satoru, we don't even date yet." you laugh at this antics. he's the most stubborn person you've ever met, dedicated to get you to like him romantically. it's not like you really hate him, you sometimes even think you might like him back. just a little bit. but it's fun seeing him like this, so desperate for you. (it makes you feel nice.)
"yet?!" he springs up, grinning from ear to ear. "so we might date in the future?"
"not if you keep doing this."
"what if i take you out to dinner?" you act like you're thinking about it.
"maybe if you also take me to the bookstore later and buy me ice cream."
"GETO, DID YOU HEAR Y/N? we might go on a date!" he jumps on geto, hugging him tight. shoko and you are practically dying of laughter at this point.
"get off of me." geto pushes him away but also smiling, seeing how excited satoru is and happy since two of his close friends are finally about to get together. he's also glad he doesn't have to suffer while watching these moments on first row with shoko. (they don't know it'll be much worse and annoying after you start dating though.)
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────

What are some of your Will headcanons?
Any angsty ones?
hair style:
will's hair has a Mind Of Its Own. it is impossible. brushing it? keep dreaming. styling it? dude just give up
he can, however, wrangle it into two french braid pigtails. those are fun.
in the august after the giant war, the aphrodite cabin take it upon themselves to 'style' nico, including giving him these little elastics with a skull charm (like this but with skulls), but he doesn't like tying his hair back very much (too tight) so he gives them to will as a joke.
will LOVES them.
he literally wears them almost every day. the next time they go out on a supply run, nico sees these little elastic charms and buys them for will. he can't summon the courage to give them to him face to face but he leaves them on his bed. will adores them, too, and it starts something of a tradition of people giving will charm elastics as a small thank-you.
he has a collection of them and wears them whenever he wears his hair in braids.
his favourites are the skull charms, though.
artistic ability:
will really doesn't have many musical talents. he's hard of hearing and while hephaestus-made hearing aids definitely work better than mortal ones, it's not really something that can be cured, so he has a lot of trouble staying on key/making music himself.
however! apollo is the god of poetry and art in general -- that is more than just visual!!
will is a really good writer, poetry especially. he's very articulate and verbose and writes with startling clarity. he's written a lot of songs and a lot of poems, although he hasn't shown anybody in years.
he used to share them with his older brothers and sisters and sibling, but...well. obviously that's no longer an option.
he's never stopped writing, though. he may keep it to himself, but it's kind of an open secret. he's scribbling in his notebooks all the time -- it's impossible not to notice.
his friends and siblings, however, are the only ones who know that he writes creatively. they've peeked over his shoulder here and there (and also kayla is a huge huge snoop, like, badly, and austin is easily convinced to be complacent in her crimes), and sometimes he says things that are just kind of poetic.
no one else knows, though. he's deliberately obnoxious about it -- every once in a while, at campfire open mics, he'll clear his throat loudly and grin as people groan and recite something so bad apollo might have written it. most people think will's quite bad at writing, actually.
another thing he's really good at is drama, which is a surprise to absolutely no one. although beyond his regular histrionics, chiron had shakespeare as part of his curriculum, and will could play puck like nobody's business. he recited a mercutio so good once lee actually cried with laughter (so did everyone else). on a hauntingly beautiful february in 2004, he played ophelia by the creek so beautifully that it was silent for a good four minutes after he finished.
there are very, very few people at camp who remember that. will hasn't recited anything in a while.
an unexpected bonus of his medical knowledge, actually, is a really good understanding of depth, space, and anatomy.
he's a surprisingly good artist.
it started pretty normal -- he was having trouble articulating a question to michael one time, and in a fit of frustration drew a diagram to try and explain himself. it was really good, even as rushed as it was, so michael used to give him 'homework' that was hand-drawing posters of various body systems to hang in the infirmary.
it was kind of spooky how will could do it without looking it up. just close his eyes and start sketching an accurate nervous system. cool though.
his older sister, cass, encouraged him to branch out of anatomy diagrams and create whatever he liked. she made the unfortunate mistake of giving him several cans of paint and free reigns on blank infirmary walls (they're freaky and boring) to a nerdy eight-year-old -- that's why r2d2 and c3po are chilling on the wall by the mortal medicine cabinet.
he doesn't paint a lot now, 'cause he doesn't have the damn time, but when rachel finds out who painted the infirmary walls she hounds him until he takes a morning to paint with her. they have a lot of fun. they end up with more paint on each other and their clothes than their canvases, predictably.
siblings:
when will was a kid, he had twelve older siblings.
apollo tends to have kids in brackets. he is, as everyone knows, a hoe, so he'll be busy on olympus or with artemis and go a while without having any kids, and then he'll be on earth for like three years and have a litter. so a lot of his kids end up the same age.
before the war, in the same cabin, there was: cass, the oldest, 18, somewhat year-long; diana, 18, year-long; lee, 16, somewhat year-long; michael, 16, somewhat year-long; gabriel, 15, summer-only; leanna, 15, summer-only; mercury, 15, summer-only; kate & phoebe, 14, summer-only; laurel, 13, summer-only; amir, 13, summer-only; melody, 12, summer-only; and will, 8, year-long (for now).
their abilites were pretty vast and well-rounded, and they came from all over the continent.
there was a time when the infirmary wasn't understaffed at all.
will doesn't like to think about it.
style:
on their birthdays, apollo leaves them all a gift on their bunks (or their beds at home, if their birthdays aren't in the summer).
each of them gets a piece of blessed gold jewelry when they're ten. will got a pair of threader earrings with thin blue sapphires that he loves. he can't wear them often because they're a genuine hazard in the infirmary (yes, more than flip-flops) and he doesn't want them ruined. but he wears them on the rare days he has off.
he actually has quite a lot of jewelry! because he is a sappy nerd, he has two watches: a hephaestus-made one, totally waterproof, weatherproof, and monsterproof, because it helps quell the anxiety when so many people are counting on him (he has to know when people will be better and how long he can be away from his patients, also used to tell people to fuck off when he's on break lol); and his mother's much nicer watch that she gave to him when she dropped him off at camp for the first time -- it's not changed for the time zone. he knows what time it is for her, and it makes him feel better about being so far away from her.
he wears both watches on the same wrist, ala chad danforth.
he has a third watch. it was lee's. it's got r2d2 on the face. will got it for him with his own money when he was nine years old, for his birthday. it lives in a box under his bunk. it's cracked and broken and never tells the right time except on 1:52 p.m. on june 30th, although the year gets farther and farther off every time will checks it.
contrary to popular belief, will does not actually wear the same pair of cargo shorts every day.
...because he has seven pairs of the same shorts.
he does have other shorts through. namely swim trunks and a pair of tighter shorts he wears specifically to kick ass in volleyball. he didn't try for this or anything, he got the shorts at the thrift store, but he's pretty sure they might be designer. he gets a lot of compliments from the aphrodite cabin when he wears them.
he also has a collection of nerdy t-shirts (his anakin sand-rant t-shirt is worn to threads), novelty pajama pants, hoodies, and flannel.
he has more than one tattoo. he has several, actually; constellations, lines from freckle to freckle so faint you can barely see them: the seer, the drummer, the archer, the tiny lion, the archangel, the maiden, the lyre, the twins, the boat stern, the hearth, and the singer.
just plain will:
he's slightly red-green colourblind.
when he gets mad, his cheeks puff up and he gets all red in the face before erupting. his older siblings used to call him tinkerbell.
he gets teased for being so dramatic that he was named for the most dramatic apollo kid who ever lived -- shakespeare. but his actual, legal name is just plain will solace. when pregnant, his mom used to mutter 'it's you, me, and sheer fucking force of will, baby' to herself a lot, as a kind of mantra, and then will was born and she thought it would be kind of funny to name him will (she was right). lee invented william andrew solace so he'd have something to yell when will got in trouble lol.
he has the climbing wall record. this is because he climbs a lot of trees. he has no explanation and no one is going to stop him.
when he was a kid, and the whole mythology thing was explained to him, he misnderstood michael's explanation of food sacrifice as one to be done to all theoi/mythical beings. he worked his way to praying through the entire pantheon, a horde of minor gods, hestia, chiron, argus, and half the nymphs before someone caught wind and explained to him properly. it is the main reason all the nymphs and dryads are so endeared by him. he used to go around asking their names and very seriously writing it down in his little notebook to pray to them properly.
he carries around notebooks constantly. at first, diana gave them to him because he was driving everyone bonkers with his endless questions and she needed Five Minutes, Will, Gods, Please of silence, but he really took to it and wrote everything in there. he keeps them all as a sort of diary. kayla reads them any time he has his back turned.
it is really, really hard for him to talk about his siblings. but he knows kayla and austin feel kind of left out and hurt about it, since they didn't get the chance to know them like will did (the kids never met them), so sometimes, late at night, he calls them softly over to his bunk and they curl up, one under each arm, and he tells them stories until his voice goes hoarse and they're long asleep.

Exactly what are the different exactlies?
During this season, it's pretty clear that Aziraphale and Crowley both adore each other and humanity and want very much to be together. It's also pretty clear that, even before Heaven came and made Aziraphale an offer he probably couldn't refuse, he and Crowley weren't quite on the same page regarding...well, just what they are.
What the heck? How can their feelings be so mutual and so out of sync?
Well, I always said Aziraphale was the collectivist and Crowley was the individualist, and Season 2 has only made me more certain of it. These sound like such boring and dry concepts, but they get to the heart of even their most extreme issues - for example, Aziraphale's denial about Heaven as a dangerous place originates with his incredibly deep-seated need to believe in and belong to a collective.
At his worst, Aziraphale can subsume Crowley - jumping so enthusiastically on the "our car" bandwagon that he changed a bunch of things about the Bentley is an excellent example of how he was basically ready to assimilate Crowley into his own identity. And, of course, had he actually brought Crowley back to Heaven, that, too, would have taken away everything that makes Crowley himself. This is Aziraphale being a "rebound mess," feeling at loose ends because he's lost his sense of belonging with Heaven and wants Crowley to meet all these newly-dangling emotional needs.
But at his best, Aziraphale helps connect Crowley to others and to the world. He's usually the one introducing individual humans to Crowley. He gives Crowley excuses to be helpful, both to him and to others. He pulls Crowley into fun, more pleasurable human activities, like eating oysters at Petronius's and watching Shakespeare plays, when Crowley is having trouble seeing anything but work. At the end of both seasons, Aziraphale has been the one who insisted on actively pushing for a greater cause.
Of course Aziraphale was drawn back into Heaven. Whether you're considering his weakest points, like his need for approval from anyone he believes has authority, or his strongest, like his genuine wish for things to be Better For Everyone, he leans into collectives.
At his worst, Crowley can isolate Aziraphale. Aziraphale is sort of Crowley's one major interpersonal commitment, and while Aziraphale enjoys this, it does create a lopsided situation where they're each focused on different things. And Crowley loves humans conceptually, but because he wants to avoid the pain of getting attached to mortals, he is pretty quick to let his connections to humans go. While influencing Aziraphale away from Heaven is a good thing, Crowley doesn't have another very strong community to influence Aziraphale toward.
But at his best, Crowley has helped Aziraphale develop himself outside of the corrupt institution that has tried so hard to crush every ounce of conscience and individuality out of him. Many of the Earthly pleasures that Aziraphale tries to draw Crowley toward are things that Crowley introduced him to in the first place! Crowley's individualism encourages Aziraphale to try things that he's been conditioned not to try, and then Aziraphale's instinct for getting attached to things he enjoys can take over.
Of course Crowley has to think of himself and Aziraphale as an isolated unit. That's a clear-eyed view of what they really are in the world of immortal beings.
Now, I've argued before that Heaven is all about the Collective and Hell is all about hard-scrabble individualism. We have these two Sides, one of which demands its angels give up all individuality and follow the group at all costs, and the other of which demands its demons constantly fight for their own survival with a desperate scarcity of space and resources.
It's through time on Earth and the things they admire about each other that Crowley and Aziraphale have become different from Heaven and Hell, respectively. Aziraphale is thrilled to have discovered himself, someone who exists outside of Heaven. Crowley, meanwhile, is thrilled to connect with someone else in a gentle, intimate way that Hell would never allow. But Aziraphale still has that need to Belong baked in, and Crowley will always need to be his own boss with his own priorities.
Fortunately, there is a "side" that is really very good at creating smaller, more intimate groups within larger societies, fulfilling both needs, and that is Humanity.

𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞!𝐛𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐣𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬
author’s note: I keep getting gojo brainrot on my feed and it’s making me absolutely sick so I must write to heal
cw: a little nsfw, 18+, oral sex (f.receiving), fem! Reader, praise,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- I’d like to start off by saying…the most obvious which is that he’s annoying
- you have an essay due tmr?
- you are getting absolutely no peace.
you need to go the libarary to study?
- okay, he’s by your side with his cheap supposed “noise cancelling” headphones but he’s misunderstood that they’re not noise cancelling for everyone else because you can still hear the song lyrics
- “baby…could you turn that down?”
- “what? no, it’s noise cancellation you can’t hear anything.”
- “but—” he slides them back on before you finish
- BUT however when you do need space to revise for an exam or prepare your project he will give it to you undoubtedly
- but that also means he’ll burst into your room every 30 mins or so to make sure you’re stacked up on snacks or that you’re hydrated
- “did you drink water? I heard your brain needs water like all the time so you need to drink water ‘Kay?”
- “Satoru, you’ve brought me 5 water bottles”
- but that’s not to say he won’t help with your revision, in fact he’ll make sure you’ll be able to recall info
- and boy does he have methods
- “what was the answer to that one again?”
- you moan lightly in response your, thighs trembling with his two fingers deep inside you, and at your failure to provide an answer he removes them,
- you whine at the emptiness and he tuts shaking his head, “c’mon you know this one.”
- shutting your eyes, you blurt out the answer
- “that’s my girl, you’ll pass this exam in no time, one more question and then I’ll let you cum.”
- in between your cries and mewls, he praises you for what you’ve managed to recall with him between your legs
- and yes, as per the image at the top he will give you a cd 💀
- “Satoru…what is this?”
- he deadpans you, “can you not read it? It says-“
- “no, I know what it says dumbass, I mean why?”
- “can a guy not do something nice for you?” and then he has attitude🙄 “I’ll take it back then.”
- you’re obviously quick to reject that notion for sureeeee
- if you’re an English major he will not leave your books alone
- “what is this? Shakespeare?”
- he’ll open it up and recite a random page in the most god awful British accent stumbling over the words
“That doesn’t even make sense, why is this guy famous?”
- however, maybe he’d get into pride and prejudice…slowly
- it probably take him a long time to read each page, trying to make sense of who is who
- “so nobody likes mr darcy already? Damn, he didn’t even do anything.”
- but when you show him the movie version he would so swoon over it immediately
- he would play it for one of your movie nights calling it your favourite when it’s actually a secret favourite of his
- and he be quoting everything mr darcy says
- he makes fun of your handwriting constantly if you annotate your books/ or write down notes OR if he missed a lecture and obviously copies up from you
- “is that supposed to be an a?”
- “it’s an e!”
- “ s’not my fault it looks so similar!”
Tumblr media
I shall make a part two if I can think of more annoying college!bf gojo🧍🏿‍♂️
reblogs are much appreciated 🫶

Rent?! No one ever talks about rent. Tell me rent things.
AUGHHHH RENT!!!!
i went to watch it at the stratford festival like three days ago!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(press for better quality)
I LOVE RENT! FROM SO MANY PERSPECTIVES! IT TALKS ABOUT THE AIDS CRISIS AND TRANS PEOPLE AND GAY PEOPLE AND DEATH AND GRIEF AND HOMELESSNESS AND SO MANY IMPORTANT TOPICS IN JUST ONE MUSICAL
keep reading if you want to see my theatre nerd side, i basically swoon over set design, backstage, lights, model choices, etc.
AS SOMEONE WHO LOVES THEATRE PRODUCTION A LOT MORE THAN ACTING, THE STAGE THEY USED TO CONVEY THIS MUSICAL HAS SO MUCH AS WELL!
LIGHTS, SOUND, PROPS AND MANAGEMENT OF SPACE WENT SO WELL AT THE FESTIVAL THEATRE!
its something called a thrust stage at the festival theatre, which is different than your usual type of stage, aka the proscenium stage. the thrust stage thrusts to the centre of the room, making it so that you can watch the play from all angles, and not specifically need to get centre, front row seats. you can see with the second photo below that even the people at the edge get an interesting perspective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the actors and designers also have a fun time with thrust stages! you have to act with your entire body, as all pov seats can watch you, and designers have to be careful about props and use space wisely, especially since its a much smaller space than your usual, and theres no curtains meaning that scene changes have to be imaginative as well.
as you can see with the photo i took, i did in fact get centre front seats, only because a huge tour group backed out last seconds and my mom was able to snag the tickets.
(i actually watched it twice! first time at the festival was with the theatre group where i was looking at all the lights and cues and analyzing shit, but second time was bc my siblings wanted to watch it live and i could sit back and enjoy the show, looking at some things i wanted to rewatch that other campers had talked about that i missed (the first photo i took of the stage is from camp, on the balcony, while the second is the most recent and from in front of the stage))
from theatre camp, i also got the absolute privlage to get a tour of the festival theatre, and watch a changeover. since the festival theatre goes through multiple plays a day (richard III for a matinee, rent as a night show just as an example) they change the entire set.
i dont care about shakespeare, so were here to talk about the changeover to rent. they expanded the stage and made it much denser material, since people will be dancing on it, and changed the sudden drop to stairs, so the actors wouldnt trip on stage or while dancing. they also added that small platform to the centre of the stage, and did so much with it!
at first, that small platform was used as mark and rogers apartment, and there were metaphorical walls that everyone could see. even though collins was standing RIGHT NEXT TO THEM, he wasnt on the platform and was looking upwards, while mark was looking downwards, signalling they were on different floors.
for the 'la vie boheme' dance scene, they used it as a huge table to seat all the people around it, on the ground. they simly laid a cloth on the edges to make it a table, and the audience could take it as a table.
there was also a trapdoor in the centre of that thing, so for one musical number involving rogers and mimi, they were brought up, being the centre of attention while everyone else danced around them. it also became a small table for one scene.
the next thing the trapdoor did. it went down under the stage, where angel would climb onto it, and 'today 4 u' song, she rose out onto the stage in a puff of smoke and a badass christmas fit!!! so cool!
trapdoor was then used as a makeshift bed for angel, where collins helped her lie as she died of aids. they covered her with a huge cloth, which each of the group threw in and yelled 'im done!' and walked away, leaving collins still clutching it with angel underneath, the trapdoor going inwards as her grave.
let me tell you. they transitioned so well. the trapdoor went back into the trap room, where collins would also let go of the cloth and got it to sink into the hole. id assume the actor got out, the people down there would take the cloth, and while everyone on stage was doing the funeral scene, the people down there would put angels bucket with a bouquet inside and place it on the trapdoor.
theyd then let the trap back up onto stage, replacing the cloth and angel with her bucket and a bouquet in it. that made me sob the first time i saw it. holy shit.
now, away from the sad stuff and back to set design.
if you look at the photo, you can see windows in the backgrounds. they look like normal windows, until you look closer to see silhouettes in them. men and woman.
those were used A LOT to convey the scene. i cant remember the orders, but the main examples that stuck out to me:
for the 'tango maureen', the windows lit up red and you could see the people a lot better, which implies all the people shes slept with/cheated with
when they got together for the aids meeting, the windows lit up in rainbow colours to signify all the people who suffer to aids and the general lgbtq colours
when they were talking about homeless people with benny, the lights shone in different cold hues, showing all the people in tent city and how they must be freezing in the winter
'rent' the song, the windows were flashing with the song, and when the power got cut, all the lights went out except a faint blue from the lights above so the audience could still somewhat see what was happening
sound. all the cast used mics, id guess that the chorus would trade mics based on who had huge lines. before it started, you could hear general city sounds, cars, beeping, general business that you would get from new york that i found a bit cool. i think you can tell im not that passionate about sound.
alright, what else? costumes. costumes, costumes. I LOVED ANGELS FITS. HOLY FUCK, HER NEW YEARS EVE DRESS WAS SORTA TRANSPARENT BUT HAD A RAINBOW SHIMMER TO IT?! I LOVED IT SO MUCHHHHH AAAAAAAAA other than that i have little to no things about costumes... they were all wearing basic fits that were usual for the 80's, all sorts of hip-hop, t-shirts, jeans, your usual.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
found some from the web! first photo is that outfit i scream about up there, and the second is her coming out of the trapdoor for 'today 4 u'!!!
okok now actors... I MET THE GUY WHO PLAYED COLLINS FOR THIS SEASON AT THE FESTIVAL!!! or, me and my entire theatre production camp did. we all got autographs, and got to speak to him bc we waited for everyone else to leave the theatre before we could go as a group, so all the actors had the time to change out of things and stuff. it turns out that someone he knew died of aids not too long ago, so his reaction to angel's death is pretty spot-on. he was so cool! the name's Lee Siegel if you wanted to look more into that.
last thing (i think). at the end, after an amazing scene where the cloth used on angel to lower her down the trapdoor was used to present all the little clips mark got over the year they all had together, angel came out of the centre door draped in this blanket, which all the cast would lay onto the stage.
Tumblr media
and everything would go to applause.
in all, rent is amazing! <3 especially after watching tick tick boom!
(sorry for ranting i love theatre (realised i should probably save this to talk about in drama class when school starts...))

Socks’ Star Trek must-watch list
Socks’ list of must-watch Trek episodes
OG Trek
Welcome to the NCC-1701 starship, known as the Enterprise. The captain and crew follow rules when the plot says so, the captain is often on away missions with his top-ranked crew members leaving some unqualified guy in charge, and the captain gets to snog a lot of ladies. Like, a lot. Seriously. This series features lots of questionable fashion choices, including men’s heeled boots and miniskirts.
Space Seed - our introduction to Khan Noonien Singh, played by Ricardo Montalban. Khan is the villain of the second Trek movie Wrath of Khan which is why this episode is on the list.
Taste of Armageddon - Do you remember the game Battleship? Two planets wage a war against each other. There is staggering loss of life, but no destruction. The Lottery in Space.
Mirror, Mirror - obligatory parallel universe episode! This parallel universe shows up later in Deep Space Nine which is why it is on this list.
Trouble With Tribbles - Clue in Space. Just a fun episode. Also shows up in Deep Space Nine!
A Piece of the Action - another fun episode. And the reason I don’t know if the proper expression is concrete galoshes or cement overshoes.
Let That Be Your Last Battlefield - two individuals who are the very last members of their races who were at war are still trying to kill each other. This episode was about racism and it is not subtle about it at all.
Next Generation
Welcome to the NCC-1701D, also known as the Enterprise! Not the Enterprise from the original series, but a younger, more advanced starship that is the successor to the Enterprise name. And since the Enterprise and trouble go so well together, the crew of this Enterprise find lots of adventures to keep them busy as they explore strange new worlds and seek out new civilisations.
Encounter at Farpoint - The very first episode. Not great, but it also serves as an introduction to Q, who will show up several times throughout the series. So that I don’t fill up this whole post, just go ahead and watch every Q episode (which will 99% of the time have Q in the title.)
Measure of a Man - Data is put on trial to determine if he is property or his own person, and Riker is forced to testify against him for plot reasons. This episode explores individuality and friendship.
Q Who - I said I wouldn’t fill this up and I won’t, but this episode is special because it introduces the Borg. There’s also a great moment between Picard and Q toward the end.
The Survivors - An elderly couple are the last survivors on a planet. Hard to explain why I like this episode without giving away the whole plot.
Sarek - This episode can be pretty sad as it deals with dementia and what it can do to people.
Menage a Troi - Any episode with Deanna’s mother, Lwaxana, is always a funny one. (Except the one that is sad, more on that later.) This episode is excellent because we get to hear Sir Patrick Stewart recite Shakespeare in the most over-the-top delivery possible.
Best of Both Worlds, parts one and two - THE CLIFFHANGER TO END ALL CLIFFHANGERS HOLY SHIT THIS EPISODE HAS ALL THE DRAMA
Family - A follow-up to Best of Both Worlds. Deals with family that is gone, family that can be A Bit Much, and family that is estranged.
Suddenly Human - This episode is similar to the Deep Space Nine episode Cardassians: a boy who has been adopted by others is discovered and found to have living family who want him back. Which family is the child supposed to stay with?
Darmok - An episode all about language and how ideas are communicated. Yes it has some flaws, but overall it is interesting from a linguistic point of view. By the end of the episode, you will understand how darmok=memes and inside jokes.
The First Duty - A good Wesley episode. This explores truth, loyalty, and doing what is right.
I, Borg - The Enterprise rescues a Borg teenager, who begins to develop individuality. He is named Hugh. Hugh is adorable.
The Inner Light - THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE EVER. IF THERE IS LITERALLY NOTHING ON THIS LIST THAT SOUNDS INTERESTING PLEASE AT LEAST WATCH THIS.
Rascals - Picard and a few other randos (no seriously why is this bunch of people even on a shuttle together?) experience a transporter malfunction and are beamed aboard the Enterprise, except they materialise as pre-teen children! This episode is just pure fun. Contains: bby!Picard throwing a tantrum, and bby!Guinan jumping on the bed.
*Frame of Mind - This is a pretty heavy episode that deals with hallucinations. Riker is supposed to be performing in a play, but suddenly he’s in an alien mental institution and accused of murder. Riker repeatedly flashes between being on the Enterprise and being in the institution and he increasingly cannot tell which is real.
*Technically, this episode does not contain gaslighting even though it will seem like it. Please make sure you are in a good place if you decide to watch this episode.
**Dark Page - Lwaxana Troi is back! But something is up with her.
**I can’t explain why this is a serious episode without giving it away, so here it is: this episode deals with child death.
Deep Space Nine
By far my absolute favourite series, and the only one I have seen every episode of. Deep Space Nine is about a Cardassian space station that is now occupied by joint Federation and Bajoran forces. Deep Space Nine just so happens to be situated right by a stable wormhole that goes to another quadrant of space that would take years and years and years to travel to by starship alone. Naturally, everyone wants to be in control of the wormhole. The closest planet, Bajor, was until recently occupied by Cardassians. (Think of Cardassians as Space Russians.) The Bajorans are deeply spiritual people (literally every fucking Bajoran subscribes to the same religion) and they believe that their gods reside in the wormhole. (THEY ARE WORMHOLE ALIENS FFS AND THEY DON’T CARE ONE BIT ABOUT BAJOR OR CARDASSIA OR THE FEDERATION.) Because this series is set on a space station that does not go anywhere, we get to see that actions have consequences. If Next Generation was the fuck around series, this one is the find out series.
Emissary - A two-parter and our introduction to Deep Space Nine and the majority of the major characters in this show.
Past Prologue - This episode is important because we meet Garak, a tailor and the only Cardassian still living on the station. What could he possibly be doing here?
Duet - A Cardassian arrives at the station, as they often do, but this one seems to be hiding something. This explores topics of colonialism, genocide, terrorism, and how complicated people really are. This was one of the episodes that made me watch the entirety of DS9. (The other was Take Me Out to the Holosuite.)
Cardassians - Another Garak episode. This one has a similar plot to the Next Generation episode Suddenly Human. Garak and Bashir discover a Cardassian boy is the adopted son of a Bajoran man. But since Bajorans and Cardassians kind of hate each other because Cardassions tried to colonize Bajor, there is a concern that the Cardassian boy is being abused by his adopted father. To make matters worse, Gul Dukat gets involved. (Gul Dukat is played by a native Wisconsinite!)
Shadowplay - Kind of similar to the Next Generation episode Survivors.
The Wire - Garak episode! This episode deals with the topic of addiction and friendship.
Second Skin - Kira might actually be an undercover Cardassian agent?!?
Crossover - Welcome back to the mirror universe, which we haven't seen since the OG series. Here we find out what happened after Kirk left that universe. Told you this was the 'find out' series.
Fascination - A fun Lwaxana episode
Past Tense, parts one and two - Time travel episode! This episode takes place August 30-September 1, 2024. The Bell Riots occurred in San Francisco, and were a turning point in earth history. These are pretty heavy episodes, and they deal with things that still resonate today: poverty, racism, classism, homelessness.
The Visitor - Similar vibes to The Inner Light. Sisko jumps through time at increasing intervals. Meanwhile, Jake lives his life with his father literally popping into existance for a short time only. Jake is older every time. Sisko is not.
Trials and Tribble-ations - The 'find out' episode to OG Trek's Trouble With Tribbles. This is just a really cool episode that blends footage from OG Trek with DS9.
Things Past - An interesting episode where some of the crew wake up in the bodies of people living on the station during the Cardassian occupation.
Ties of Blood and Water - Kira's Cardassian "father" (the guy from Second Skin) arrives on the station.
In the Cards - Jake and Nog do increasingly weird tasks in their quest to obtain a baseball card for Jake's father. Oh and that bitch Kai Winn is there too.
Statistical Probabilities - This episode introduces the Jack Pack! They're a bunch of genetically altered humans, just like Bashir! Oh, and they are extremely neurodivergent and would probably be tons of fun to hang out with.
Far Beyond the Stars - The crew, but what if they were science fiction writers in the 50s? Deals with the topic of racism.
In the Pale Moonlight - How far is Sisko willing to go to get the Romulans to join the war against the Dominion?
Take Me Out to the Holosuite - One of DS9's obligatory holosuite episodes. A Vulcan that Sisko knows shows up and in a very un-Vulcan-like manner boasts to Sisko that he and his crew are superior beings who have been trying Sisko's favorite sport and just absolutely crushing it. Sisko challenges him to a baseball game. The only problem is that most of his crew are not human and have never played baseball before.
Chrysalis - Have you ever read Flowers for Algernon? The Jack Pack returns.

what i want to play in Solo But Not Alone 4
So, there's a charity bundle on itch.io right now, Solo But Not Alone 4 is a bundle of 125 solo ttrpg-type games.
By ttrpg-type I mean that they aren't played on the computer, they usually have pdfs to download and then you need to bring the things like playing cards, tarot cards, dice and something to write with yourself (and very occasionally a jenga tower). They're usually rather focused on journaling.
If you want to know which games need which supplies, or what genres the games are, there's a handy dandy spreadsheet you can get here.
now, I've not really played any of the games yet, but there's ones I really want to play, and maybe I can make some of you excited enough to buy the bundle and support the charity Take This too. Take This is a non-profit to benefit mental health in the gaming community, but a little look on their website gives me the idea that their resources are useful broader as well, for example they have links to mental health resources for particular ethnic groups. It does seem pretty English-speaking country centric, but still a worthy charity to support I think.
without further ado! the games
Tumblr media
Project ECCO is a game you play in a PLANNER. I've scrounged up an old planner I barely used and I'll be using it to play this game. It's a time travel game and you write your answers to the prompts on the pages of the planner you've "travelled" to. There's different ways to "travel through time" in the game, so you use dice, playing cards, tarot cards and a coin to determine what day you're writing on and what prompt you're fulfilling. I like the variety in methods, and i like that i'll be having limited space to write (although it's VERY little on the weekends. we'll see what i can manage on 3 lines)
If you want to play just this game you should definitely buy the bundle, it's usually 15 USD, while the bundle is just 10.
Tumblr media
Corporate Onboarding is here mostly because of the formatting, I'll admit. But the formatting is so cool! It's AVAILABLE AS A POWERPOINT FILE. Also pdf, handy if you don't have the ms office suite. It fits on just 19 slides, but it claims that the average session is about an hour, which sounds about right. It doesn't have a lot of introspection far as I can tell, you need to find all your bosses to report to them without going over 5 warnings, and you have some stats for your character and all that.
Tumblr media
Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop is another game worth getting the whole bundle for, normally 16 USD and it does seem worth that.
The game has such cool worldbuilding, you've got different towns and seasons and events throughout the year. I can see myself dedicating a whole notebook to this. And it's got a beautiful pdf (that's kind of formatted for print, but the print book's sold out). Also a fishing mini game you play by dealing a deck of cards.
Tumblr media
5 act play is a game that gives you some guidance for the plotting of a play. It uses tarot, but also gives an alternative using dice and playing cards. It really USES tarot, you are expected to have a guidebook or look one up for the meanings of the cards and use them to inform characters and themes, but it does have tables for what you do with some of the cards. It's Shakespeare inspired, using examples from Much Ado and Romeo and Juliet to help you, and you're expected to write a tragedy or a comedy.
Tumblr media
The Peace Engine is a game you use a jenga tower to play, which I don't currently have access to, but it looks incredible and I'm considering asking around if I can borrow one. You have to pull bricks from the tower when your scientist gains "burnout" and if your tower falls you fail. It has a complex system and it seems very cool.
Again a game more expensive on its own, so get it in the bundle!
Tumblr media
Glyph is a sort of guide where you make sigils, it has a beautiful pdf as well. I like the method it provides. It recommends to be used for enrichment of other games, or just as a fun creative exercise
This bundle runs until the 9th of March 2024!

currently watching: Detective Anna season 2! The 1890s Russian medium detective soap is extremely bingeable and I'm furious at Viktor Ivanovich and the fact that they gave all the women extremely modern-styled contours in this season. The Evergiven - yes, yes, i hear you crying out for the Suez Canal. I hear you. I occasionally agree. What a beaut. My creative brand stems, at its heart, from recognising Shakespeare's hand in today's world. How could I not adore the Evergiven, doomed to a taste of love that destroys its own success? Every shipping journey in service of a greater happiness, at the price of never knowing an absoluted union again. Such a taste of suffering, as sugar atop two-day shipping.

Chapter Head Art for Maybe Sprout Wings (Full set)
I have had just, So Much Fun working on these. This story really is built on such a great concept, and with such fantastic worldbuilding, and with action so thoroughly in tune with its themes that it really does reward digging into. @moorishflower's writing kills me in the best of ways (and in the sleep deprivation kind of ways but I have no regrets), and designing them was a great time. And on top of that, everyone here has been just, so lovely, so I'm very excited to post the full set of chapter head illustrations!
Stylistic consistency continues to elude me, but hopefully these look like a matched enough set regardless. Cursive titles are the chapter titles, block print is my own title for the illustration. Just for fun, and in tribute to the (probably truly unhinged) amount of time I spent thinking about Symbolism while making these, I'm including one selected Fun Fact relevant to my thoughts on some part of each of these at the bottom of this post in case that interests anyone!

Ch 1: Baobabs are some of the oldest living flowering plants on the planet and can live up to two millennia. I have a lot of feelings about the sheer volume of life these trees can contain (both spatially and in time) and what that means for how we look at them.
Ch 2: If Abel were looking to avoid anachronism, he could still absolutely have left out books that were machine-printed with moveable type, but they'd probably have to have been in Chinese or Korean, from somewhere that had already widely adopted the technology by the 14th century.
Ch 3: Homer's works contain what is believed to be the first written mention of apples in Ancient Greece. Its writing is about as many centuries removed from the events of the Odyssey as the events of this chapter are from the first recorded mention of apples in England.
Ch 4: An ink quill is definitely more aesthetic, but graphite had actually been discovered in England and pencils invented in the decades prior to Shakespeare's first writings. It's entirely possible he could've been jotting down quick notes with a pencil like any stagehand today.
Ch 5: Though Corinthian style architecture is named for the Greek city of Corinth, with which it's associated, its inventor Callimachus is actually thought to be Athenian. The spiny, curling acanthus leaves used in its motifs are generally associated with long life, immortality, and rebirth. Go figure.
Ch 6: Symbolically, clovers are a sign that others are thinking of you. They're associated with good fortune, and apparently also male energy, and seen as a sign of protection. Excellent Fiddler's Green groundcover here.
Ch 7: Three-masted, fully-rigged ships became common in Europe by the 16th or 17th centuries during the Age of Sail because the extra space for sails became more necessary with the increase in open-ocean voyages. Making them the go-to type of vessel for both trade and exploration.
Ch 8: The simple but effective design of drop spindles is largely unchanged from their first documented use in the first century CE. there's evidence of their use for spinning (making a single, stronger thread from many disparate fibers) dating back at least to the advent of agriculture, some 10,000 years ago. Definitely what I picture Clotho using.
Ch 9: The fractal, branching structures of roots, lightning, and Lichtenberg figures are all self-similar: you can get much closer and they'll still appear very similar or identical to the way they were at a distance.
Ch 10: The throne room scenes of Sandman were shot in Guildford Cathedral. The Dreaming's Castle was intentionally designed to be a mashup of a whole ton of architectural styles, but the facade and throne room definitely feel gothic or neo-gothic. It's been a classic for centuries and the gothic-style window is definitely the kind I picture Hob's room having, at least on days the castle's feeling a bit fancy.
Ch 11: The item at the front left there is a weaving shuttle. According to Artemidorus, while dreaming of most kinds of looms indicates that you should expect rest, dreaming of a warp-weighted loom -- the kind which was common in bronze-age Greece and enables multiple people to work together on the weaving -- indicates an upcoming journey.
Ch 12: I feel like I've already talked about the symbolism of this one elsewhere, so for this one, instead of a fact, a comment (that I found fun): The binding circle in this only shows up in areas covered by the puddle of the Dreaming Sea, the means by which the nature of the "gilded ring" was elucidated. :)
Ch 13: Greek ships often had eyes on their bow, which among other things, was intended to imbue them with some will and ability to avoid obstacles. The Argo famously had eyes and also some innate awareness/intelligence, and could actually speak to the crew.
Ch 14: While Calliope, muse of epic poetry and eloquence (and the one invoked at the beginning of the Odyssey) is associated with a book, scroll, or tablet, Erato, muse of romantic poetry and love stories, is depicted in crowns of rose and myrtle. My title for this one was very nearly just (Invocation pt. ii). Also, I have a headcanon that Dream has only seen very bad performances of the Odysseyif ( he's seen any at all) since antiquity. Any show that literally begins by calling his ex is something he's not gonna stay for unless he's really sure she won't actually show up.
Whew! thanks to anyone who actually read to the end of my rambling here! Clearly this whole story has been really, really fun to just turn over in my mind. Cool stuff just keeps falling out of it! Since I would literally be two photos under Tumblr's limit on this post otherwise, how about a couple bonus alternate versions at the end here? Because why not?? I added some red accents to a couple of these for fun, and though it doesn't fit the for the chapter headings, I do think it looks cool!

Emma by Jane Austen | 2.5/5
I have been sitting on this negative review of Emma for over a year so pls pretend I am charmingly tortured by my mixed feelings for this beloved classic rather than just a little hater.
I decided to read Emma because the Austen girlies are unstoppable. Every day I wake up for my twelve hour shift in the content mines of tumblr.fuck (for the purpose of this sentence we are both grizzled elderly men sitting on a porch just go with it) and find another post about how Jane Austen is the best thing since before sliced bread. Eat your heart out Shakespeare; if only you’d done all your plays about falling in love. These posts are a bit of a mindfuck for me because as much as I love a costume drama, Austen’s actual novels have always been underwhelming. One of my best friends is an Austen girlie. She loves the things. I dunno man, these books do not spark joy. But maybe I was just young dumb and a hater. Emma (2020) is my favourite Austen movie, so when I decided to reinvestigate the author I thought I’d start there.
The movie is better than the book. Shocked gasps; questions asked at parliament.
Emma (2020) is a great adaptation in part because it’s well positioned to keep the best parts of the book. My favourite part of the novel was the dialogue, which the film is able to lift often ad verbatim (“Mother, you simply must sample the tart!”). The patter of conversation is excellent and Austen’s sense of humor comes across just as effectively on the page as it does when spoken aloud. To this the visual medium can add the incredible set design, including the beautiful Regency wallpapers, Emma’s many jackets and little hats, Anya Taylor Joy’s eyes that look like they’re exes trying awkwardly to avoid each other in the grocery store, Johnny Flynn as Mr. Knightley having a romantic tantrum so intense he has to take his pants off and lie on the floor. Relatable. These elements couldn’t be in the book even if Ms. Austen had wanted to describe Mr. Knightley’s buttock-baring emotion.
Unfortunately that paragraph has been my way of damning with faint praise. The inverse proposition of an adaptation that adds a lot of things I liked is the source material without much to like about it. This is a bit of a misrepresentation. I found most of the book to be funny and enjoyable in much the same vein of the movie: a gorgeously decorated vanilla sponge cake. I just hated the ending so much it retroactively ruined all 500 previous pages.
I don’t begrudge Ms. Austen’s choice to hew to the Georgian standards of propriety (hence no ass shots), but this is a safe space for us to admit that those standards have not all aged particularly well, or particularly sexily. I feel like I’ve been infected with terminal bookstagram brainworms. I also don’t want to be here arguing that a book published two hundred years ago is too old-fashioned for me. But at the same time so much of the narrative about Austen is a revisionist history of how all her work was secretly not only meaningful (this is true, Austen’s work is about capturing the atmosphere and concerns of a particular social milieu, which she does effectively; it’s not less worthy of capture because it’s a space exclusive to women), but progressive.
People love Austen. They love romance and they love period drama. They don’t love when that genre is criticized for being dated or regressive. I understand that people do not read these books for the 21st century social commentary or the politics. And I understand that a 21st century moral critique is ahistorical and in poor faith. Trust me, I feel the ‘just let people have fun’ brigade hanging over my head like the sword of fucking Damocles.
But here’s the thing folks, my largely pretty enjoyable read of Emma was soured by just that: important parts of it are dated and regressive and it ruined my day.
The premise of Emma is that the titular protagonist is a rich and witty young woman intent on meddling in the romantic lives of others, at their expense. At the conclusion of the film, Emma realizes she has behaved badly to her lower class friend Harriet by leading Harriet to overlook the farmer Robert Martin (Harriet’s social equal) in order to pursue the richer Mr. Erlton (her social superior). Emma apologizes to Harriet and tells her to reconsider her feelings for Robert Martin, which turn out to be genuine. Finally, when Harriet discovers that her father is a lower class merchant rather than a secret aristocrat, Emma says she will welcome Harriet into Hartfield anyway. It indicates that Emma has outgrown her judgemental nature and preoccupation with appropriate matches to see Harriet as a friend in spite of her being Emma’s social inferior. And they all live happily ever after.
In the novel, this resolution takes much much longer. Emma’s flaw is not that she toyed with her friend’s emotions to arrange a match that amused her, but that she encouraged Harriet to have uppity opinions and to seek to rise above her station. The story resolves with Emma and Harriet returning to their proper social classes, Emma with Mr. Knightley and Harriet with Robert Martin. Emma and Mr. Knightley commiserate over how foolish Emma was to befriend Harriet and how unpleasant Harriet has become now that she is a social climber, and Harriet is revealed to have been naturally ungrateful and grasping and unworthy of a young lady such as Emma’s friendship.
I’m not going to waste my time on whether this sort of thing was just as bad then as it is now or whether it was simple a different time. Austen’s writing is a reflection of genuinely (though not universally) held societal beliefs and she’s not going to rise from the grave to change it now. It is, however, a deeply unpleasant ending. Emma’s problem isn’t that she toys with the people around her for entertainment, but that she doesn’t participate appropriately in the class system. Technically both of these are about becoming more self-reflective and more thoughtful of others, but the devil is in the details. It’s hard to enjoy that as the conclusion to a romantic comedy. I don’t come to Austen for a window into the uncomfortable realities of the past, or really any particular connection to the past. I’m here for the fluffy romance.
Part of the reason talking about not enjoying Austen because of these novels’ dated elements is so frustrating is that the common narrative about Austen is super revisionist. Austen has endured a lot of lumps and I do think it’s stupid to claim that she was a poor writer and was incapable of writing incisive social commentary just because she was a woman writing about the recency woman’s interests and concerns. I also think it’s reductive to claim that the social dynamics of Austen’s world often get misinterpreted due to the modern reflex to see every society preceding our own as nasty, brutish, and short. But this isn’t a critique of Austen, this is a critique of reading Austen in 2023. It’s not just about hating to see a grilboss winning.
On the other hand, why do I feel like I’m trying to placate the ‘just let people enjoy things’ brigade again?
One of the most frustrating things about being generally a romance disliker is the climate of toxic positivity that surrounds any genre that is more about having fun than any ostensibly higher purposes. There is a sense that since the audience of these genres is primarily women and they are often targeted by bad faith misogynistic criticisms, that any criticism of them is inherently misogynistic. I’ve been tying myself up in knots because my observation is that a book from 1815 has some nineteenth century ass ideas about class. This should be self-evident. ‘Just enjoying things’ in not actually my goal when reading, and ‘just letting people enjoy things’ isn’t my goal as a critic either.
Here’s the rub: Emma is a fun and sweet romantic comedy with some of the English language’s best dialogue until the conclusion reminds us that there hasn’t ever been a romantic utopia with the sexy historical codes of practise but not the bad ones. Romance in Austen’s time was a function of the class system, not separate from it. And I don’t know, maybe I’m the patron saint of it really being that deep, but I had a hard time seeing the lighthearted romance in that.

A review of Twelfth Knight by Alexene Farol Follmuth
Viola Reyes is annoyed. Her painstakingly crafted tabletop game campaign was shot down, her best friend is suggesting she try being more “likable,” and her school's star running back Jack Orsino is the most lackadaisical Student Body President she’s ever seen, which makes her job as VP that much harder. Vi’s favorite escape from the world is the MMORPG Twelfth Knight, but online spaces aren’t exactly kind to girls like her—girls who are extremely competent and have the swagger to prove it. So Vi creates a masculine alter ego, choosing to play as a knight named Cesario to create a safe haven for herself. But when a football injury leads Jack Orsino to the world of Twelfth Knight, Vi is alarmed to discover their online alter egos—Cesario and Duke Orsino—are surprisingly well-matched. As the long nights of game-play turn into discussions about life and love, Vi and Jack soon realize they’ve become more than just weapon-wielding characters in an online game. But Vi has been concealing her true identity from Jack, and Jack might just be falling for her offline…
This was a very fun read! I thought it was a great modernization of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and entertaining in it's own right. It took me a little bit to get pulled into the story, but once it got going, I was hooked.
Viola comes off very strong at the start of the story (as I suspect is the intention), but it's tempered well by Jack's perspective. There's absolutely frustrating moments of "just tell him!!" but Vi's reasons for secrecy are believable enough for high school. Their romance blossoms in a cute way and the stakes are consistent throughout. The secondary plot(s) of Vi's favorite video game and tv show are very entertaining; I loved the fantasy flavoring it added. Vi's dealings with sexism in fan spaces were really relatable, and as Twelfth Knight progressed I found myself understanding her rage.
All in all it's an easy read that I think fans of YA romcoms will enjoy. There's great character development, fun banter, and a story with a lot heart!

A made-up title !!
"If music be the food of love, play on"
Because Shakespeare is scratching an itch
❤️
Thank you for the ask! 🥰 These are so much fun!
Not sure how Shakespearian this will be 😅 but it is the first thing that popped into my head:
In day-to-day life, you and Jake got along like water and oil. More often than not, your conversations quickly devolved into screaming matches or competitions on who could hurl the most hurtful insults. If anyone only knew you from these moments, they would struggle to understand why the two of you remained friends.
But on stage, it was another story.
No one could explain what it was, but once those lights turned on and the roar of the crowd filled the space, you and Jake became one. Every note he strummed on his guitar perfectly melded with your voice. No words were ever exchanged, but the two of you could read the subtle shifts, the ebbs and the flows, of the music passing between you. It was the closest thing one could get to real magic. If anyone only knew you from the stage, they would never question the undying love between you.
send me a made-up fic title and i'll tell you what i would write to go with it

i’ve seen a lot of calls for netflix specifically to stop adapting books to television. and i get it! i agree! but i think there is something larger to discuss.
tbh, i think this trend of adapting book series to live action television just isn’t the direction storytelling needs to go. whilst on a personal level i would have enjoyed a live action six of crows tv show because it would have been fun, on a more critical level i do genuinely believe that novels are the best format for that story. for example, the contrast between kaz’s internal monologue and the other character’s perspectives of him is such a huge part of his characterisation. and that just doesn’t translate well to screen.
alternatively, i think there are so many stories that work well in a visual medium that may have not had the same impact as a novel. with heartstopper, i think the space and time the tv show gives the story which allows for it to focus on more characters than nick and charlie is definitely to its benefit. whilst i do hold a lot of love for the graphic novels, the television show just feels much less restricted than the books.
i think there needs to be a challenge to the idea that all stories are adaptable to all mediums. and that the ideal medium is a live action tv show (or film). i think we need to think more deeply about the choice of medium to tell a story because it’s soooo important. there is a very true piece of advice regarding shakespeare’s plays which is they need to be watched not just read. and that’s because the story was made for the stage.
we need to stop adapting stories for the sake of it, and instead think about whether or not the medium would actually add anything. i’m quite wary about new atla adaptation for this reason. live action adaptations shouldn’t be the end goal for all stories. it works well for many, but not all.

Previously on Polo
Slowly, Lexa moved around the gallery, perusing the art on display. It was busier than she’d expected. So busy, in fact, that she hadn’t been able to find the curator who liked it when she played with her hair while she read.
But with how busy it was, Lexa found this inane burst of pride emanating from her chest, this warm little squeeze as she observed the people as much as the art, eavesdropping on conversations to hear how well it was going. There were a few people she knew and recognized, now well versed in Clarke’s world and friends and colleagues. It made it interesting to exist in Clarke Griffin’s orbit, who so casually found artists and put on something like this. It meant schlepping around the city and occasionally world, as a tagalong, scoping out art that often wasn’t in her wheelhouse. But it didn’t matter. Clarke liked it. And if she didn’t like it, she understood and appreciated it.
Absently, Lexa sipped from her glass after snagging it from a roving tray. It took her twenty minutes and half a glass of wine to spot her girlfriend. The thing that she couldn’t tell Clarke, that she would always be afraid to admit, was that sometimes, when she saw her, she felt like her heart was going to beat out of her chest, like her rib cage was insufficient, like an underfunded zoo and an eager and opportunistic tiger looking to escape. It wasn’t because she was beautiful. Of course Lexa thought that. It was because, for the first time in her life, Lexa looked at another person and saw certainty. She saw the woman she’d hold hands with when she was sixty. She watched as the woman she fell in love with after one conversation, listen and answer questions to some buyer across the gallery.
People mingled between them, and Lexa didn’t move to get any closer. Sometimes she couldn’t. Sometimes she was just… struck, but how in love she was. She’d studied extensively on the topic. Consulted all the greats, many times. Browning, Neruda, Paz, Shakespeare, Dunne, Cummings, Dickinson, Villarreal, and more than she could remember. They’d all warned her about this, and yet, here she was, engulfed and feeling as if she was the only person who had ever felt it, almost certain in that fact, actually, that it would be impossible for anyone to love anything as much as she loved Clarke.
The greats were all liars.
Lexa watched her girlfriend smile and she finished her drink before finally approaching in a lull in her attention.
“There you are,” Clarke cocked her head and smiled. “I was afraid you were ditching me for something more fun.”
“More fun than this?” Lexa disagreed, wrapping her arms around Clarke’s waist. “You know I live for opening nights.”
She received the disbelief and shrugged, earning a smile anyway as arms moved around her neck and she earned a kiss. It was polite. Too polite for her liking, but she understood it.
“How long have you been here?”
“About an hour. I couldn’t find you, but thought that was a good sign.”
“It’s been busy.”
“I’ve noticed. Do you know how proud of you I am?”
“Me? Why’s that?” Clarke shook her head, smoothing the lapel of Lexa’s jacket despite its unrumpled appearance.
“You did this. It’s really, really good, princesa.”
“It wasn’t that much work.”
“Don’t do that,” Lexa gave her a stern look and kissed her cheek again. “You did this. And I’ve fallen in love with you at least six times over the past twenty minutes watching you work, in awe of you. So just–”
She didn’t finish. Clarke kissed her quiet and Lexa smiled enough to break it.
“Can I show you around?”
“You know I’ll follow you anywhere, Clarke.”
“I know,” she nodded.
For some reason, Lexa felt safe knowing the truth, and that Clarke knew the truth, that she literally would follow her anywhere. It took her many months to admit it. Maybe even more months to believe it. But she’d gotten there, and there was no going back.
Some of the pieces were familiar, from Clarke’s work that would be left in folders all over their different spaces. Some of them were new or just referenced in conversation, but Lexa still understood, and she listened as Clarke explained. And when Clarke got pulled away with an apologetic smile, Lexa returned it and gave her a wink for good measure before approaching the bar and finding another drink.
As the crowd filtered in and out, late into the evening, Lexa found herself in conversation with strangers, and enjoyed herself as best she could. She’d had training in such things. She’d dated Clarke long enough to go to the occasionally stuffy soiree. She dragged her to enough stupid events. This was relatively easy.
“Wait, so you won the gold?” a woman furrowed and tilted her head to the side. “Like an Olympic gold?”
“Yeah, well, my second was last summer.”
“I thought you were just a model?”
“Oh, no, that's mostly just for fun. I play polo for Marcus Kane. Train some horses. Things like that. My newest venture is simply being in love with Clarke Griffin though, and that’s a full time job, if you can imagine.”
“I have no doubt. A wonderful girl. I’ve served on the board of the Children’s Museum with her father.”
“I believe we’re being auctioned this holiday season for charity for the Children’s Museum.”
“Are you participating?”
“I was politely volunteered. Clarke is helping to plan some of it, as her father’s liaison and so she’s pulling out all the stops. She put this together,” Lexa motioned to the gallery.
“Talented. You’ve got yourself a talented girlfriend, Ms. Woods.”
“Yeah,” she smiled and sipped her drink. Pride didn’t even cover the half of it.
“A talented couple indeed. How long have you two been dating?”
“Just over two years. I guess closer to three, actually.”
Clarke was across the room, having a meeting with a few of the other gallery workers. She looked good, all business, focused. Lexa kind of understood why Clarke got turned on at her games, all of a sudden.
This was the same girl who would refuse to get out of bed every morning. Who could sleep through anything, and for hours and hours. Who never found a reason not to get ice cream in the park. It made Lexa grin. It was very easy to be in love with the person you were meant to be in love with. Even when it wasn’t.
“That’s a decent amount of time,” the woman looked at her knowingly and Lexa cleared her throat.
“It’s been great. I should go– check on her,” Lexa decided, afraid of having a conversation this personal with a complete stranger. “It was lovely chatting with you.”
“I’m sure we’ll talk again soon, darling.”
“Great,” she grinned.
By the time she made it to Clarke, her girlfriend was jotting something down at the desk of reception, or at least what was reception on a normal, non-show night. Lexa leaned there and let her finish.
“Getting chummy with Mrs. Whitefield?”
“She thought I was just a model.”
“Did you tell her about the medals?”
“You know I did.”
“Good,” Clarke decided, closing a folder and shoving it behind the desk. “I can’t have people thinking I’m just with you for your looks.”
“Of course not.”
“How did you like it? Are you ready to head out soon? Steph is going to close for me.”
“I loved it. Best one yet,” Lexa promised. “I only fell in love with you like twelve times tonight.”
“I’m losing my touch then.”
“Yeah,” she smiled and followed behind eagerly. “Are you hungry?”
“Starving. I didn’t get any snacks. How were they?”
“Really good.”
Clarke sighed and shook her head.
“Seb already has our order waiting. We’ll pick it up on the way home.”
“Okay, I fell in love with you right now.”
“Shut up,” Lexa rolled her eyes, but let Clarke guide her toward the exit anyway.
XXXXXXXXXX
“Oh, querida, how are you feeling?” Lexa cooed at the pony, rubbing her hands over her nose and under her chin.
From her spot at the end of the stables, Clarke watched despite pretending to be interested in her book whenever Lexa looked her way. She became someone who carried a book and snacks in her bag because she became someone who liked spending time in the stables. She liked learning things, she liked watching her girlfriend, she liked being close while doing different, individual things. So she carried a book and she said she liked walking over when Lexa decided she wanted to check on the ponies some evenings.
‘Checking’ always meant working. It meant mucking or cleaning or some form of keeping busy. Lexa was notoriously bad at being still when it came to downtime. She blamed it on her parents, not allowing her to do much else than work in the stables. She blamed it on herself, for being obsessed.
The heat was still burning itself off, the sun still above the treeline in the distance. Tails swished and swatted at flies and the weather, hoping to find some relief. Clarke sat with her feet up, lounging in an old office chair in the stable. Most were gone for the day, the remaining evening hands wrapping up as best they could.
But Clarke watched as Lexa ran her hands along her ponies neck, cooing to her gently, earning nudges and hums. Rio was her favorite. Clarke thought that even the other horses had to have known it. She watched Lexa’s shoulders, tanned and freckled, as she stretched and ran her hands along the horse's chest, checking her over, soothing her quietly. Rio didn’t particularly like Clarke, and the woman swore that the horse looked her dead in the eyes as Lexa tutted over her, as if reminding Clarke where she stood in the grand scheme of things.
The more time Clarke spent in the stables, the more she learned things like that– that the horses had personalities. She was fond of Rainforest, despite the silly name, because he  was a funny horse. He played pranks like biting Lexa’s thighs and stealing whatever was in her pockets. He liked Clarke. Maybe that was her only bar.
But she looked over the book as Lexa bent over and lifted Rio’s leg, careful to check the wrap from the cut that happened after their last practice. Clarke liked to watch Lexa move. She fell in love with her right there, among the piles of hay and horse shit. It seemed to happen fairly often, these moments where she was reminded of the affection she had. There was lust, definitely. Always. But Lexa had been right, with how mingled love and lust could be, if you were lucky enough. They existed independently, but often swirled and dipped, dancing around her head before one would take over.
Clarke felt breath on her shoulder as Rain stuck his head out of his stall toward her, nibbling her shoulder before smelling her book. She kissed his nose and earned a snort. But her attention was still on Lexa, and her hands and the tiny way she hummed. If Clarke had known that she’d be perpetually falling in love, she might not have ever signed up for it, because it was so much to do, to just be constantly and without warning, struck by her feelings for this person that existed. It didn’t seem efficient or fair, and she needed to speak to someone about it. It came at the worst times, too, just randomly in quiet moments. The way Lexa looked first thing in the morning, when she was a mess and unable to open more than one eye. The sound of her voice before bed. The anxious kind of pacing she did before asking if Clarke wanted to take a walk, knowing full well it was to do exactly this– check on her favorite horse that had been very well taken care of by others.
“I love her, you know?” she told Rain who seemed to not care at all, digging his nose deeper between her and the arm of the chair, looking for treats in pockets. “I didn’t mean to love her, but I did. And she was right. The whole fucking time. It’s very frustrating.”
Another snort as she rubbed the thin whilte sliver of a streak that went up his face.
“You’re easy to talk to. You should consider becoming a therapist when you’re done with polo.”
That seemed to be it for him, as he lifted his large head and shook out his mane, shifting his gaze to Lexa at the end of the stable.
“Yeah, I feel the same way, bud,” Clarke sighed.
She watched a little longer before closing her book and moving her bag out of reach of a certain nosy pony, and making her way to her girlfriend.
Lexa pampered Rio. She always did, but now, with her injury, more than ever. Clarke held out a sugar cube in the flat of her palm, earning a sniff and, in her own opinion, rather delayed and cold acceptance of the treat.
“How’s it going?”
“Good. I’m sorry– I’m almost done,” Lexa promised quickly.
“I’m in no rush.”
“You have an early morning, and the commute–”
“I’m fine,” Clarke promised, leaning her head on her arm on the door. “This is nice.”
“Do you want to go for a ride this weekend?”
Lexa didn’t look up when she asked, just kept moving and soothing and humming and Clarke watched for a few more seconds.
“Are you going to let me do all the saddle and rein things myself?”
She watched the amusement on Lea’s face as she swallowed down any attempt to correct Clarke’s words.
“If you want.”
“I do. I only have a few months until we go see your parents. I need to show them I’m capable.”
“That’s silly. I’ve told you that.”
“It’s not silly. It’s important.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“And yet you fell in love with me after one conversation,” Clarke shrugged.
“I… I did not know what I was getting into.”
Lexa smiled to herself and patted Rio’s shoulder before kissing her cheek, telling her a few more things, to behave for the night, to be gentle and not bite at her wrapping, to have sweet dreams.
“I tried to warn you, you know,” Clarke reminded her.
“Who am I to fight fate? Fate gives me you, and I have to just accept my lot in life.”
“Quite the burden.”
Lexa closed the latch, making sure the door was fastened tightly before standing in front of her girlfriend. Clarke waited until hands wrapped around her waist. She waited for her own soothing and for those hands to heal her as well.
“So have you finally agreed to let me be in love with you?” Lexa teased, already having her answer.
“Maybe.”
“I’m getting closer.”
“Let’s go home,” Clarke murmured against her lips. “I could use a shower.”
“Me too.”
“What a coincidence.”

so it goes...
Most of the people that interact with this account do so because it started as a Harry Styles rp account. This is not the case anymore, and probably wont be again. I've lost any and all interest in the dude, so I apologize for that.
In other news, here's what I'm currently into and who I play: - All for the Game (Kevin, Andrew) - Twilight (Paul, Embry, Jacob) - Supernatural (Dean) - OC/creating our own little world and characters (f/m or m/m, but I would play a male character either way). Some other things about me that you may want to know going into writing with me:
20+ are the only individuals I have any interest in writing with. Whether smut is involved or not, I am not comfortable writing with a minor.
Discord is the only space I enjoy roleplaying. I like the way it is easy to organize, as well as how the structure of replies is much easier to deal with when using Discord.
World building. Whether we are jumping into a world that was already created or building our own, let's make it OURS. Muse-based playlists, pinterests boards being added to, gifs or images being passed around... it should be fun and easy to imagine. I want to be able to scream at each other about our own muse, the other's muse, or their relationship. Aesthetics are crucial.
It is so important to me that you know the basics of writing. People will call themselves literate, but not know how to separate paragraphs, how to properly write dialogue, or when a capital letter should be placed. I need literacy, and I need a minimum of 4 paragraphs in order to properly work with a reply. You don't have to be Shakespeare, but I do ask that you give me substance to write against.
I don't have a preference for plots, but most of my characters stem from a darker background and have a few toxic traits they are working with/against. I do not enjoy pirate plots, royalty plots, or plots revolving around pregnancy. The falling together is the bulk of the story to me, so I enjoy being able to write that fully.
Finally: I have a life. I'm not your little writing machine, nor will I act like I am. I will try to give a heads up if I am going to be gone, but I am promising nothing. I have a job, a relationship, dogs, and a life outside of roleplay. Respect that. Do not pester me, because I will never pester you. If you feel like we would be a good match, send me a message or just like this post and I'll message you so we can figure out the next steps. I look forward to hearing from you.

festivids recs, part 2
Here with more Festivids recs! There was so much good stuff — I bookmarked fully 1/3 of the collection — but I've narrowed it down to some faves, trying to pick one top choice for fandoms with multiple vids. Here's a very reasonable 25 recs:
The Only Way to See (Amaury Guichon RPF): Did not know I needed a Sondheim vid for the chocolate guy, but I really really did! Such a lovely tribute to creativity.
Le Freak (Barbie): Luv the choice to use disco. Really captured all the fun of the movie and the build to Barbie's existential crisis was A+.
Drink You Sober (Bound): All of the Bound vids were a beautiful bounty. This one is just meltingly sexy.
body (David Cronenberg movies): The platonic essence of a David Cronenberg vid. Repulsive! Attractive! Could not tear my eyes away.
Nothing in My Head (Dropout TV): I am loving ALL the Dropout content (the little question marks in WTFIGO? kill me); this one has terrific timing and is such a great celebration of the ensemble.
Do What I Do (Dungeons & Dragons): All the D&D vids were super fun; Holga's my fave character and I really enjoyed this tribute.
We Can Be Anything (Everything Everywhere All at Once): This song, with its tightrope between nihilism and endless possibility, feels like it was written for this movie.
Anymore (Face/Off): Face/Off vid of my DREAMS. This was made for my sibling and it feels almost like a gift for me too. We were hootin' and hollerin' and both yelled "DOVES!" when there were doves.
if i were a fish (Fire Island): Howie and Noah's friendship was my favorite part of this movie, so love that this focuses on that as much as on the romance. Such a cute song!
Northwest Passage (For All Mankind): If I have one takeaway from FV this year, it's that I need to watch For All Mankind! This space-camp-going due South fan definitely cried a little about this song choice and the epic spacefaring; might be obsessed with Molly just from the two vids I've seen about her.
סיפור הגולם  (The Golem and the Jinni): I haven't read the book yet, but this is a STUNNING example of what you can do with a non-visual source. It's such a love letter to a time and place, too!
How to make a perfect Hanukkah movie... (Hallmark Hanukkah Movies): SO funny. I've only seen one Hallmark Hanukkah movie but you absolutely get the vibe with or without having watched all of them.
I Like That (Janelle Monae RPF): Unapologetically queer and self-loving.
'Til You Hit a Nerve (Knives Out): Great combination of the two films, and the climactic build on "I can't miss" rules.
By Way of Sorrow (Les Mis): I am weak for a Les Mis vid and this one crafts such a wonderful, heartbreaking narrative about all the secret sacrifices and suffering that Cosette's parents went through! Makes me cry like a baby.
Everybody Talks (Much Ado About Nothing): This was a great year for Shakespeare vids. This is my favorite play and I love the combination of all the productions and all the great comedic beats.
No Smoke Without Fire (Poker Face): Cool, funny vid. This song is a TERRIFIC vibe for Poker Face.
Wavin' Flag (Ponyo): All the Ponyo vids were so much fun (and I loved the love for Lisa this year), but this one really warmed my heart.
magnetic (Romeo + Juliet): Super captivating and energetic tribute to Mercutio! Harold Perrineau just killed it in this movie.
Tusk (SIlence of the Lambs): Amazing character study of goddamn hero Clarice Starling.
A Better Son & Waiting for Somebody (Sports Night): Okay, I cheated! You think I'm going to pick one vid about love of my life Dan Rydell?
Ángel (Tár): A precise and chilling vid about my favorite film of 2022. The accent on the vid title is the perfect coup de grace!
Blood in the Cut (Taskmaster RPF): Yessssss weird Alex Horne vids.
King (The Woman King): Was so hoping for vids to this source and this one is just a blast. Great song choice.
