Hearing your phone buzz again for the third time, you let out a soft breath. Reaching over, you flipped your phone, reading the series of texts.
'Hey, it was great seeing you again, we should hang out soon!' 'Hey Y/n I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight? I've got a great spot I think you'd enjoy.' 'Let me know! I'd love to see you again.'
You felt the other's eyes on you, but you ignored them as you set your phone back down, before looking up at the screen. You needed to focus on the con, not a date.
"Was that Danny?"
You felt your body freeze for a second as Sophie spoke. Looking over, you saw a small smirk on her face, and from beside her, the others with obvious piqued interest.
"Danny?" Breanna asked with a musing tone.
"An old friend, recently moved back here, we caught up a few days ago." You said simply, hoping to satiate their curiosity.
Sophie hummed "He seems keen to see you again it seems."
Your eyes briefly shot over to Harry, who's face showed he was interested in what was occurring.
Forcing yourself to look back at Sophie, you nodded "Yeah. He, uh, asked me out, but we've got the con-"
"The con should be over and done with this afternoon, you should definitely go!" Sophie said with a slightly raised voice
"Oh, uh."
"Yeah, go get your date on!" Breanna said with an exaggerated movement of her head.
You looked over at Eliot who seemed unconcerned, and then Parker and Hardison, who just stared at you, as if waiting for your response. Your eyes moved to Harry who's face remained almost blank.
He nodded his head softly "Yeah, uh, I agree with Sophie and Breanna, you should go."
You felt your chest tighten a bit as disappointment washed over you. "You...all, think I should go?"
'All'
Harry, Harry thinks you should go. Then again, why wouldn't he. Why would he care who you dated, even if you wanted him to care.
Sophie and Breanna nodded their heads fervently. As Parker and Hardison glanced between each other, something you failed to notice.
Harry stared at you with growing anxiety, as he berated himself in his mind for encouraing you to go.
You let out a soft laugh as Sophie and Breanna stared at you intently. "Okay okay, I'll go. If the con is done by then. Just stop staring at me already."
Sophie smiled brightly "Great, well then. Lets not waste any time."
As Sophie rose from her seat, you moved to go get prepared, following Eliot out of the room. Grabbing your phone, you re-read Danny's messages back before replying, almost reluctantly.
'Yeah I'd love to. I got work to do, but it should be finished in time, I'll let you know.'
Harry watched you walk off, and his heart sank in his chest. Suddenly feeling a hard smack against his shoulder he let out a soft yelp, as Hardison sat beside him.
"What was that for?" Harry asked in confusion.
"What the hell was that dude?
"What was wha- ow!"
Parker smacked him in the other arm as she sat beside him. "What was what? That, was you telling Y/n they should go on that date!"
"Well-" Harry stumbled a bit "Why shouldn't they?"
Parker and Hardison rolled their eyes in unison.
"Dude, it's obvious you got a thing for Y/n. So what you don't go and do, is tell the person you are into, to go on a date with someone else!" Hardison's voice grew in volume and frustration as he spoke.
"Okay, okay!" Harry said, with his voice hushed. "What was I supposed to do? Y/n doesn't know how I feel."
"That's why you have to tell them" Parker started "Before they go on a date, fall madly in love, causing Y/n to leave their life of crime behind, abandoning us all and moving to a quaint countryside and opening up a cafe where they sell coffee to old people!"
Hardison and Harry stared at Parker for a moment before Harry shook his head with a sigh "Well when you put it that way."
Hardison lightly smacked his arm again "Dude, I see how you feel about Y/n. I get it. You think you aren't worthy enough for them, you think they wont see anything in you. But dude, Y/n already does."
"You think so?"
"We know so." Parker said softly. "Y/n looked at you when they weren't sure what to do with Darren."
"Danny"
"Whatever. They were hoping you'd tell them not to go. But you didn't."
Hardison nudged him "And you have too. Otherwise you might lose your chance all together."
Harry looked out the door you had gone through, as he took a deep breath. They were right. It would kill him to see you with someone else. And it would be his fault.
--- --- ---
Seeing Sophie and Eliot leave, lost in conversation, you let out a soft sigh as you looked around. It seemed like everyone had left.
Grabbing your bag, you looked at your phone. You had yet to tell Danny you could meet up with him. The con was done, you were free. All you had to do was tell him you could see him.
'Hey, I'm done with work, still want to get that dinner?'
You looked at your unsent message, your finger hovering over the send button.
Hearing a suddenly bang as someone rushed through the door behind you, you spun around in surprise.
Seeing Harry with a look of urgency on his face, you set your phone down.
Harry felt a sense of relief wash over him "Oh, uh, you're still here!"
"Yeah.." You let out a soft laugh "Is everything okay?"
"Oh, yeah, yeah, just...thought I-" As Harry's eyes cast over the table, he stepped forward "lost my phone, but there it is" He pointed at it with a smile.
"Oh" You smiled, amused at his distress.
Your heat fluttered a bit in your chest as he looked back over at you with a smile. You noted how it faltered before he spoke again, his eyes trailing you up and down pausing on your bag briefly.
"Uh, you heading out? I mean, going on a date with Danny still?"
You looked down at your phone and smiled, though it did not meet your eyes. "Yeah, I was just getting ready to text him."
Harry nodded, but remained silent, he wracked his brain for something to say, anything, as you stared at him, almost expectantly.
As Harry said nothing, you felt a familiar pang of disappointment in your chest. You smiled at him. "I should go."
Turning to leave, you grabbed your phone. Harry felt a sudden jolt of panic course through him.
"Wait!" He suddenly yelled out, catching both of you by surprise.
You turned back around, eyes wide with surprise "What?"
Harry let out a soft sigh "Don't go on that date."
Your heart leapt in your chest as you turned back totwards him. You swallowed "Why?"
Harry let out a soft laugh as he shook his head. "Come on, you gotta know why."
You could hear your heavy heartbeat in your head as you softly shook your head. "Say it." You were almost pleading.
Harry let out a sigh as he walked closer to you. "Because I don't want to see you with someone else."
"Someone else?" You asked softly
"Someone who's not me." He shrugged lightly "I want you to be with me. And I almost ruined that by saying you should go on that date with Danny. But I don't want you to. So don't. Please."
You refrained from smiling as you took a step closer to him "So you waited 'til the very last second to stop me?"
Harry looked around before nodding awkwardly.
You let out a soft laugh "You're an idiot you know that?"
His smile grew as he nodded "I am entirely aware, yes." He took a small step closer, nearly closing the distance between the two of you. "Was my stupidity entirely in vain?"
You eyed him for a moment before you smiled softly and shook your head "No, Harry, it was not."
His smile turned into a grin as he moved ever so closer, before gently taking your hand in his, and caressing the back of it with his thumb.
Looking from your hand, back to your eyes, he smiled softly, almost shyly "Then would you like to go get dinner with me?"
You nodded with a smile "I'd love too."
xx End xx
Since no one else is writing any Harry x reader fics, I decided I would try my hand at it. Hope you like it!

Prompt: Leverage AU where Harry Wilson is the Noah Wyle character in The Red Line, where he was married to a man of color murdered by the police. Instead of being a rich morally bankrupt lawyer, he’s a relatively powerless divorce lawyer or something. Cue Leverage team to… provide leverage.
Gifs from The Red Line. (Surprisingly, searching ‘the red line’ in the gifs tab pulls up a lot of relevant results, including several of Noah Wyle doing his ‘unsuccessfully trying not to cry’ face. He’s good at the cryface and he should have opportunities to do it on Leverage.)
Edit: I wrote a drabble about this:

Sophie is trying to figure out the leadership dynamics with these people who are her family, friends, team members and home. Ultimately, wuth all these different layers in their relationship, she doesn't want to mess this up.
Hardison constantly belittles Breanna's achievements and meanwhile she keeps seeing from different perspectives and taking notice of some things that Hardison doesn't with his tons of experience. He needed to trust in her abilities. It's the delicate balance between the fear of losing one's relevance and influence which isn't a bad thing. But to also remember, that even the mentees would become mentors at some point and that doesn't mean one's influence has reduced, rather it has expanded. Think of it as birthing another leader.
"Look, Bree, I'm used to showing you the way, not you showing me. So I'm sorry, really"
Are we capable of change?
"And how does that help Dee Dee now? This team can't solve the world's bigger problems. We're just... we're not built for it. What we can do is help one person and then the next, and then the next, and then we look back, and you see how much you've changed. It's baby steps, Breanna"
Sometimes, it just feels like no matter what you do and even when one reaches a peak so to speak, there is still that gnawing feeling that you're not doing enough.
"Because you can't dwell on the past. You have to keep moving forward. But sometimes when you look back, you see how much you've changed. Baby steps, Sophie, baby steps."
I think the past is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can try convince us we haven't changed in the form of old friends and acquaintances tugging on our guilt strings or like Breanna said we can reflect and evaluate how much we've changed.

Precious Truths: Part 3
Fandom: Bridgerton
Pairing: Benedict Bridgerton x F!Reader
Summary: After your father finds out you've been writing under a male pseudonym, he threatens to marry you off to an atrocious man unless you find yourself a husband within a month's time.
Series Masterlist
Tumblr media
Once at their door, you're insistently knocking on their door until someone opens it. Mrs. Wilson looks at you with confusion. Your chest is heaving, your eyes are wide, your hair in disarray, "Miss Y/N? Are you alright?"
"I need to see the Viscount and Viscountess immediately," you say urgently as you enter the Bridgerton home, gripping the older woman's arms to stabilize you.
"They're still freshening up for di-"
"Please! I need to see them! It's urgent!"
"Alright," the older woman nods at you, removing your hands from her, and rushes up the stairs to retrieve Anthony and Kate.
You're pacing in the foyer, fingers twiddling together as you're trying your best not to break down right then and there. You begin to mentally scold yourself for being so careless. You had done so well in the beginning, hiding your writings under your floorboards. You became careless. Your aunt was never one to snoop and your father was always in a drunken state. You figured neither of them would begin to look around your room, so you left your writings there.
Oh how wrong you were.
You look up to hear footsteps and see that Kate is the first one rushing down the stairs, "Y/N? What's wrong? Are you alright?"
You grab her arms to keep you steady as you shake your head, "My father found out and he's going to marry me off to my awful cousin. I need to find a husband quickly!"
"Found out? Found out what?" she asks you in confusion.
You don't answer her question as you continue on with your hysteric ramble, "Please, Kate, do you or Anthony know anyone who's looking for a wife?"
"Y/N, slow down. Wha-"
"What is wrong, Y/N?" Anthony asks as he finally approaches you in concern.
You look at him with wide eyes, "You need to help me find a husband."
You jolts in surprise, "What?"
"Darling, is everything alright?" Violet looks at the three of you with worry. She notes your distress, "I'll have Mrs. Wilson get ready some tea," she immediately goes to find her housekeeper.
Kate takes hold of your hand and guides you to the sitting room where you immediately plop yourself into the couch, throwing your head into your hands.
The Viscountess sits beside and puts a reassuring hand on your back, rubbing it soothingly. She looks up at her husband and mouths, 'Get Benedict.'
The Viscount immediately scurries off to find his brother.
"Deep breaths, Y/N. When you are ready, you must start from the beginning."
You sit up and wipe your now teary eyes. You take a deep breath and ready to speak, but your words get caught in your throat when Benedict enters the room.
Kate stands from your side and Benedict immediately takes her place, "Are you alright? Anthony said you were in distress."
You let out a shaky breath and give him a sad smile, "It's all gone wrong, Ben."
"What happened?"
You gulp and look up at Anthony and Kate who watch you with patient eyes, "What I'm about to tell you must not leave this room. It's imperative that no one, especially Whistledown, doesn't know."
"Know what?" Benedict asks.
You take another deep breath, "I'm Arthur Talbot."
Anthony looks at you in surprise. Kate looks at you like she's realized something. Benedict...you're not sure what the expression he's giving, but at least he doesn't look angry.
Kate can't help but chuckle, "It makes so much sense now. When you'd recite his words, it felt like they were your own. They were."
You nod and turn to Benedict, "You know how my papa forbade me from reading and writing poetry. I couldn't let it go, not when it was the one thing I had left of my mama. So I decided to write under a man's name, so my papa wouldn't know.
"But when I arrived home after our promenade, he was in my room. He found everything. He was so angry. He-" you look away in shame, "He struck me-"
"He struck you?" he asked you in disbelief. He feels a burning anger start to bubble within him. He never understood how one can be such a kind man and loving father, to a cold hearted man like your papa.
You sadly nod, "He said if I didn't find a husband within a month's time, he'll marry me off to my cousin Albert."
Benedict immediately winces, "He's atrocious," recalling back to the one summer that part of your family visited and your cousin was exuberant in trying to prove that he was much better at everything than Anthony. To put it plainly, the man was a twat.
"I know! So need your help," you place your gloved hands over Benedict's, and look to Kate and Anthony, "I need you three to help me find a husband. One with good social standing and is, at the very least, a decent man."
Kate and Anthony glance at each other and then Benedict, waiting for him to confess his feelings and propose to you, to save you from your horrid cousin.
Benedict watches his brother and sister-in-law, but then looks away. With a gulp, he says with a small, reassuring smile, "I'm sure my brother will be able to look into the available men of the ton and find you a good match."
Kate casts her head down in disappointment as Anthony steps forward, "You're practically family. I will do my best to help you."
"And you'll help too, right, Ben?" You look at him with hopeful eyes and Ben could feel him on the verge of breaking, so close to finally letting you know how he feels, that he doesn't want to help because no man deserves to see you the way he sees you.
He gives you a soft smile, "Yes. Of course, I'll help you."
__________________________
You've calmed down since abruptly showing up on the Bridgertons' door step. Kate and Anthony sit with you in the sitting room while Anthony starts gathering a list of eligible men for you. You're sitting tea staring blankly at the floor when your aunt is rushing into the room.
"Oh thank Heavens, you're alright!"
You place the tea cup down and stand, meeting your aunt, "I apologize for my abrupt leave, Aunt Eliza. I was...distraught."
"Yes, well, your father told me of your-" she eyes Kate and Benedict, "-situation."
You gesture to them, "They know. I told them, but they promise to not speak of my situation to anyone else."
"And does the Viscount know?"
You nod, "He does. Anthony, Kate, and Benedict are going to help me find a husband, so I don't have to marry Cousin Albert."
Aunt Eliza grimaces, "Absolutely not. The words to describe him are...they're not appropriate to express aloud." Benedict snorts in agreement.
"Lady L/N, I can assure you that the Viscount and I will do our very best to find a man deserving of L/N."
Your aunt nods to her, "Thank you, my lady," she sighs and gestures for you, "Come, Y/N. Your father is now asleep. You may come home, but tomorrow we will go to the modiste and request some new dresses."
"Yes, Aunt Eliza," you turn and hug Kate and give Benedict a nod, "Thank you for your help."
Benedict reaches out and grabs your wrist, "Let me know if you need anything or even just someone to talk to."
"Of course," you curtsey, "Good night."
You follow your aunt out of the Bridgerton estate and back to your home.
Kate pinches the bridge of her nose, "Why didn't you propose to her?"
"Why would I? She deserves someone of a better social standing."
"You are a Bridgerton."
"I am a second son and an artist. Not even a good since Anthony bought my way into the academy." Benedict leans back in the couch in despondence, "She deserves someone better."
"But you love her, do you not?"
"It is why I love her that I am helping her, because I cannot give her what she deserves." the second Bridgerton stands from his spot and excuses himself from the room, presumably to drink his heartache away.

themes ; comedy, mild fluff and action, mutant au
warnings / includes ; mild injury/violence, sexual jokes and foul language, a lil bit of banter/terrible flirting, reader has the mutant ability to harness energy into ropes, wade steals blind al's crocs, reader's implied previous romantic relationship with wolverine, mentions of the rest of the x-men :)
Tumblr media
Wade’s place smelled like greasy pizza, put-out cigarettes, and old socks. The door wasn’t locked—in fact, it was slightly ajar, and you could clearly hear Wade and Al bickering about missing Crocs.
“I swear I put them right here!” she vehemently exclaimed, gesturing to a potted plant.
Wade rolled his eyes. “Right—because you always hang your Crocs on our leafy greens.”
Al shuffled somewhere into the back of the house, complaining loudly to herself.
You took that as your cue to silently step in, standing just behind Wade, noting with mild amusement that he was wearing a pair of white Crocs. The very ones Al was searching for, you presumed.
In the blink of an eye, Wade whirled about on the heel of his squeaky, rubbery footwear and brandished a knife. Its strangely warm blade slotted against your throat just as you defensively raised your hands.
“Watch it, Wade,” you warned, though you were not at all worried. His knife lowered and flipped back into the depths of his fluffy bathrobe when he realized who you were.
“Oh. It’s you,” he said. The discolored flesh of his face twitched with a grin. “Did Mr. Metal Dick send you? The bullwhip substitute to watch over the class?” He snickered at his own joke, recalling your mutant ability to harness energy into the form of ropes.
“Piotr is off on vacation with Kitty,” you replied, propping your hands up on your hips.
Wade tipped his head back and guffawed. “Do you think he stays that way under the sheets?”
With a grimace, you pinched the space between your brows and sighed loudly. “Jesus, Wade—I don’t fucking know. Why don’t you ask him next time you see him?”
“Good idea.” He shuffled off to shuck open a box of day-old pizza on the table. “You want?”
“No thanks.”
“You sure? It’s pepperoni. You know how expensive it is to get pepperoni nowadays, in this economy? I’m offering you gold flakes on bread, here.”
“Mhm, I’ll pass.” After a considerable silence, only filled with Wade’s loud munching, you tested the waters by saying, “Charles actually sent me.”
Wade gestured at a chair and nudged for you to take a seat. “McAvoy or Stewart?”
“What? Charles Xavier, who’s McAvoy and Stewart?” You sank down onto the creaky wooden chair, frowning at the baby powder rimming the backboard. It was probably Al’s. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was Wade, though.
Ignoring your question, Wade tilted his head and asked, “How’s Yukio? And her emo-face Megasonic Nuclear Bomb-Head girlfriend?”
You smiled slightly, remembering how they were pestering Logan, who’d been working on fixing a motorcycle back at the mansion when you left.
“They’re fine. Wolvie, too.”
“No way!” exclaimed Wade. “Logie’s there, too? Jesus—whole damn gang’s there.”
“Except you,” you pointedly said.
Wade paused mid-chew. “Oh. Oh-ho-ho, I know what you’re doing here. Charles wants me to join his rag-tag team of circus freaks.”
“Wade—”
“The answer is no.”
“Come on—”
“And he wants me to be around all those kids? In a school? Has he met me?”
“Believe me, I don’t know what he’s thinking, either,” you told him, scoffing. “You’re the last person I’d expect to be on the team but… I trust Charles. If he wants you in, there must be a reason why.”
Holding his hands out, Wade shook his head. “Listen, I’m flattered, really, but Deadpool works solo. Except for that one time I formed the X-Force. But that was a team of people I hand-picked! The X-Men just doesn’t sound up my alley, y’know?”
You blew out a breath and fixed him with a serious expression. “Some day you’re gonna have to pull your head out of your ass and realize that there are people out there who are willing to be your friends. Your family. Don’t throw it away, Wade.”
A muscle in his jaw ticked as he studied you.
“You’re really bad with rejection, aren’t you?” he finally asked, quirking up a brow—or, at least where his eyebrow used to be—and crossed his arms. The Crocs he’d stolen from Al squeaked as he stood up and gestured to the door. “I’m surprised you didn’t go running back to Charles the moment I said no. I’m beginning to think you have a crush on me, or something. Not that I blame you. My face may be fucked but my dick works better than ever. Just ask Al. She’s blind as a bat, but she hears everything in this damn house.”
Immediately, you grimaced. “Ugh. Don’t be crass.”
“What? I thought you were into broken men. Like to pick up their pieces, don’cha? You and Wolvie had that fling once, no? He told me all about it.”
In truth, Logan had told him little to nothing about his brief relationship with you, but Wade had ruthlessly pestered him anyway.
You stiffened at his words, glowering. “You’re exasperating.”
“And you’re looking awfully lovely today. That frown really accentuates your eyes. Makes you look about a decade older.” Wade leaned his weight onto the table, leering over you, patting your back twice. “I find it very attractive.”
With a flick of your hand, a crimson coil of your harnessed energy shot out and thwacked him in his side, and he hissed out a string of curses, backing away from you. You’d burned right through his fluffy white robe, to his simultaneous dismay and astonishment.
“Jesus!” Wade glanced incredulously from you to the slight, shallow gash that formed by his ribs, already starting to heal itself. “That’s actually—that was so fucking cool. Do it again!”
Clearing your throat, you pushed yourself away and stood up. “Final time I’m asking. Yes or no?”
Wade pretended to give it a long, hard think. “Mmh…” He wrinkled his nose. “No.”
“Fine,” you said, rolling your eyes up to the ceiling. “When Piotr comes back from vacation, he’s going to find you and he’s not gonna go as easy on you as I have.”
“Ooh, ouch. Hope he brings some lube with him.” Wade grinned wolfishly.
Completely fed up with him, you ripped out a wad of paper and a pen from your jacket’s pocket, scribbling down your phone number. You folded it in half before shoving it against his chest.
“I’m not giving up on you. I’m a competitive person, Wade. If Piotr was the one to convince you to join, I just wouldn’t be able to bear it.”
“Yeah, yeah, you’re literally obsessed with me, I get it,” he remarked, sparing you a lopsided beam. He made a show of pocketing your number on the side of his robe that wasn’t burnt. “You little minx, you.”
With a final flick of your hand, you lashed out another coil around his foot, and made your way to the door just as he fell back onto the couch with a muffled oomf!
Just as you left, you heard Wade cackling to himself through the door you left partially ajar, just as it was when you came in. You chalked it up to him finding it funny that you managed to trip him over with your powers, and strode away from the shoddy house with your lips twitching upwards.
Wade, however, was laughing because he’d successfully pulled off taping a kick me sign onto your back without you noticing. A low and childish blow, but would certainly make for some fun banter whenever he saw you again—which, he suspected, would be pretty soon.
Plus, Wade thought you were pretty cute when you were riled up.

So, I saw that you had no propaganda for the Iron Duke himself and thought that should be corrected, because I cannot let this man go unloved.
He is the ultimate sexyman. I don't really get that title or the requirements but I do know this man and he is the ultimate in Regency-era sexiness.
Field Marshal Sir Arthur Wellesley, First Duke of Wellington, whose full list of titles merits its own Wikipedia page, he had so many (including Prince of Waterloo of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), was so well known for his debonairness that he was often called "the Beau" or Beau Wellesley.
Our dear Duke with his eyes of "a brilliant light blue," is quite the underdog made good. The fourth son of an Anglo-Irish aristocratic family, he was a bit of a loner as a child, whose star was eclipsed by the academic success of his older and younger brothers. Yet he had a remarkable talent for the violin, which as we know from Mrs. Jefferson is quite a good quality for a man to have. As a young man he was considered extremely good humored and drew "much attention" from female society. The Napiers of Celbridge thought he was a "saucy stripling" and he was also considered quite mischievous. Yet he also had a rich inner life, reading and contemplating the great philosophers of the day.
Yes, we know about his military victories in the Peninsula (the position of Field Marshal of the British Army and the accompanying baton were created for him) and his success at Waterloo, but he was also both romantic and a ladies' man. (I could go on about the military success but that's not really what this is about, is it?)
Want the romantic side? He fell in love with Kitty Pakenham while a lowly aide-de-camp in Dublin but, with no real position or prospects, was laughed away by her brother when he sought to marry her. In a fit of pique he destroyed his violin and turned firmly toward progressing his career. Over a decade later, after he had made something of himself in India, he learned she hadn't married, supposedly because she was still pining for him. Reader, he married her, despite thinking she'd grown ugly, and got two children from her in less than two years. I'm not kidding, this man was virile. They married in April of 1806, their first son was born in February, 1807, and their second son was born in January 1808. Although he wasn't sexual faithful to her, Wellington wore an amulet she gave him for over twenty years, and was still wearing it when he sat with her on her deathbed. When she was surprised he still wore it, he told her if she'd just bothered to check in the last twenty years, she'd have found it. Despite surviving her by twenty years, the Duke never remarried.
Now, please don't think badly of him for the lack of sexual fidelity. It was the Georgian era. Sexual fidelity was not a part of marriage in high society. Men didn't sleep only with their wives and some wives could be quite happy with that (for one, it's much easier not to have one pregnancy after another when your husband is sleeping with someone else). Not that women weren't also sleeping around. Which brings me to one of Wellington's more... interesting conquests: Lady Caroline Lamb, wife of William Lamb (the future Second Viscount Melbourne and Prime Minister). Why do I know that name, you ask? The OG pixie manic dream girl, Caro's much more notably known for her affair with Lord Byron. After that particular bit of nonsense, she was in Brussels with the rest of the English aristocracy during the 100 Days/post Waterloo. She and the Duke supposedly slept together and she took his cloak away as a souvenir.
Who else did the Duke liaise with? Well, there were the usual flings with actresses and singers, such as La Grassini. As previously noted in another post on this tumblr, he was noted as a stronger, better lover than Napoleon by another of their mutual lovers. Wellington also was a client of Harriette Wilson. He visited her when she was in Paris after the Duke of Beaufort bought her off, though this was before Beaufort stopped paying her, prompting her to publish her memoirs. She canvassed her old lovers, including Wellington, to see if they'd pay her not to be in them. Wellington send her a note in return saying "Publish and be Damned." Something about his succinct dismissal of her is just so hot.
Oh, want a bit more of Wellington being a bad boy? In 1829, while Prime Minister, he got into a duel that still is commemorated almost two hundred years later. King's College, London, was set up while Wellington was also advocating for Catholic Emancipation and this led to Lord Winchilsea publicly insulting Wellington's honor to the point that the Duke (who'd never dueled before or supported dueling generally) called him out. They went to Battersea Fields and settled the matter with pistols. Wellington won and Winchelsea apologized. King's College celebrates "Duel Day" every March.
Even better, want to read about Elizabeth Bennet and the Duke being witty and falling in love? Complete with scenes of the Duke showing he knows what to do with his cannon? Then let me recommend the third variation of An Ever Fixed Mark, A Dalliance with the Duke. I dare you not to vote for him for all eternity with that portrayal in your head.

You don’t like to think of yourself as sweaty, you’re glistening. You keep a light jog, just enough to get your heart pumping. And bouncing. Your sports bra is less than secure but you don’t mind.
Running’s another new hobby. It’s a reason to get out of the house when your dad’s being a drag. And a reason to scope out the neighbour. As you turn the corner onto your street, you slow down, coming in sight of Bucky’s yard. Disappointment washes over you as you get closer. He’s usually out by now.
“Goddammnit,” you hear him curse as he appears from beside the house, his tee shirt soaked in water, “fucking hose.”
You stop by the fence and watch him strip away the drenched shirt. He tosses it in anger, his muscles rippling under his skin, and scowls as his hands frame his wide hips. You gulp as your mouth dries out. Wowee.
He looks over as you hover near his gate. You cough and shake your head, “everything alright, Mr. Barnes?” You ask, keeping your voice perky.
“Uh, yeah,” he shakes his head slightly, “yeah, just damn thing split.”
He huffs and closes his eyes, tilting his head up to the shining sun. It’s almost as if he’s trying to match you, tempting you to do something. Your cheeks burn from more than the summer heat. You hum in sympathy.
“Oh, that’s too bad. Well, I’m sure if you really need a hose, you could stretch ours over the fence.”
“Yeah, your dad wouldn’t have an aneurysm?” He scoffs and opens his eyes, narrow those baby blues in your direction.
You step back on your heel and shrug, shuffling your feet as you run in place, “I don’t know, Mr. Barnes. Just being nice.” You turn and keep bouncing looking ahead, “gotta finish my run.”
“It’s Bucky,” he calls after you as your soles pound the sidewalk. You puff out, smiling. Bucky.
You circle the block again and come up once more to your neighbour’s walk. Again, you keep a look out for him. There’s another car in the lot. You recognise it. His annoying friend is there. The one who used to tease you about your school uniform.
You roll your eyes and turn your sights forward, only to collide with someone else. Just the person you were dreading. You stutter step back, panting heavily, chest rising and falling heavily. You don’t miss how the man’s eyes peek down before meeting your own. You don’t mind being on display, just not for him.
“Oh, hi, Mr. Wilson,” you cross your arms and he clears his throat. Ugh, gross. You drop your arms, “sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.”
“That’s just fine, sugar,” he smirks, “don’t mind running into a pretty girl like you.”
Ew. You could barf. It takes all your manners not to gag at him.
“Right, um, well, I should just--”
“Hey, Sam,” Bucky’s voice draws your attention from your half-baked excuse, “Corona okay? I don’t got any Heineken right now.”
“Corona? What are you? A coed? Why don’t you toss it to this little beam of sunshine?” He nudges you and you inch away.
“I got a free case. You really gonna be picky,” Bucky challenges as he comes up to the fence and holds the beer over it. “She’s too young.”
“I drink,” you lie. To be honest, you don’t. You tried a single vodka and orange soda in high school and vomited in your shoe. “You know, college.”
“Yeah, college,” Sam winks at you, “she’s really grown up, Buck.”
You glance over as his brows raise coyly and he glances over at you, the tip of his tongue poking out. You flutter your lashes and refocus on Bucky. You shrug.
“Obviously, I’m just playing around. I’m a good girl, Mr. Barnes,” you smile.
Sam purrs, just loud enough for you to hear. You repress the furrow that threatens to wrinkle your nose. You have to stay pretty for Bucky.
“I’m just fine. Dad’s got some Bud in the garage.”
“Bud, huh, you like toilet water?” Sam chides.
Your lips draw tight and you spin on your heel, “anyways, I’m going to go stretch.”
You skip down the sidewalk and through your own gate. You hear Sam chuckle, “you doing it out here, sugar? Where we can see? You know, I got a bad back, could use a few pointers.”
You just shake your head as you wave dismissively and head inside. He has to ruin everything. You don’t get why Bucky is friends with him. They have their little poker nights and all you ever hear in exchange are snipes. Do they even like each other?
You enter the house and fill a large glass of water from the fridge filter. You gulp it down, parched from more than your run. Mm, just the thought of Bucky with his shirt off, the little coils of gray hair, and the way his muscles were just perfectly lined with that extra later of pudge. The kind a man ages into.
“There you are,” your dad appears as if out of thin air, “what the hell are you wearing?”
“Love you too,” you face him as you put the glass down.
“Were you outside like that?”
You look down at your bicycle shorts and bra.
“I was exercising,” you snip.
“You can wear a shirt next time,” he sneers. “You’re supposed to clean the pool.”
“I got time,” you argue.
He sighs as he opens the fridge. He takes out his carton of egg whites and plops it down on the counter. He takes out turkey bacon as well. He swings the door shut and turns, silent as he readies his late breakfast.
“What are you talking to Barnes for?” He asks curtly as he puts a pan on the stove. You grab your glass again.
“Was being friendly, that’s all,” your heart deflates. Fun’s over.
“Mm, and he’s friendly? He knows how to be?”
“Ugh, whatever’s between you has nothing to do with me,” you rebuff, “he’s nice.”
“Sure,” he sniffs doubtfully, “he’s a bitter old bastard.”
You’re one to talk. You don’t put the quip to voice, instead draining what’s left of the water. You turn and rinse the glass and put it in the dishwasher.
“If I clean the pool, can Shelby come over?”
“Shelby? What, so you can blast those video games again?”
“No, so we can swim,” you say. “Duh.”
“Duh,” he mimics in a whiny voice. “Don’t talk to me like that.”
“Well, can I? Please?” You soften your tone, “I’m so bored.”
“Mm, fine. No more wet towels on the lawn though.”
“Yes, sir, will do, sir.”
“And cut the attitude,” he warns as he peels bacon strips from the package, “and put a shirt on.”
You spin and stomp away. You take your slides from the front mat and carry them to the back door. You’re not putting a shirt on, you’re going to be cleaning the pool. There’s no point in that.
You go out and grab the net, extending it long. You lazily skim the water. It doesn’t really need a cleaning. It’s still sparkling and clear.
As you stare into the blue depths, the shadow of the leaves above rustle over you. You glance up and over to the disturbance. You see a head poking over the top and nearly shriek. It’s Sam, watching you.
“Ew, what are you doing, perv?” You accuse.
“There’s tree rot up here,” he points to the trunk, “told Buck I’d take care of it. Let his old knees have a rest.”
You frown and turn back to the pool. You know he’s watching you. You feel the weight of his gaze. The same sensation you long for when you pass by Bucky.
“And the view is nice,” he slithers, “you might wanna reach a bit... right there. Little leaf,” he points over the fence, “bend just a little bit, sugar. Arch that back.”
You can’t believe what he’s saying. You retract the pole and turn to scowl at him, “you’re gross.”
“Ah, come on, don’t act so innocent with me? What happened to the plaid skirt and those cute little stockings?”
You glare at him, “I’m an adult.”
“Sure are,” he agrees.
“What do you want?” You snarl, “I’m busy.”
He grins and leans on the fence. He tilts his head and bats his lashes, “’oh, Mr. Barnes, I’m a good girl. I would never drink your beer. But yes, I’ll sit in your lap, show you what a good girl does’,” he mocks as he pretends to fix hair longer than his trimmed style.
“Well, happy to see one of us is grown,” you retort.
“Ah, sugar, you can’t deny it. I see right through you. You weren’t wagging that ass for me but you will,” he eyes you up and down and licks his lips, “you want a bite of Bucky, I can get you it. There’s just one catch,” he pulls back slightly and looks down, “and it’s hard and throbbing.”
You’re stunned. Speechless. Blistering at being caught in your pathetic flirtations but worse, being called out so crassly.
You recoil and turn back to the pool. You’re not really considering his offer. As much as you dream about Bucky, and touch yourself, and cum about him, it’s just no, you can’t. It’s a fantasy, nothing else. That’s all it can be.
Besides, you wouldn’t know what to do. It’s all so much easier in your head.
“That’s okay, you take your time,” he slaps the fence, “I got work to do. But first,” he puts an arm over the wood, “think I’ll watch you do yours.”

I woke up to the warmth of the morning sunrise kissing me through the bedroom window, Kate was coming back tomorrow, and I needed to make sure that Yelena was fit enough to move on before Kate sees her. I made my way to the kitchen and began to make some coffee along with some porridge before I went to check on the blonde woman.
"I brought you coffee and something to eat" I smiled softly as I opened the door, Yelena looked terrible. I placed the tray of food and coffee on my dresser, "you're burning up" I added when I placed my hand on her forehead that was dripping in sweat. She looked pale and instantly, I knew this wasn't a good sign. "Let me look at your wound" I said, helping the woman sit up.
"It's fine" Yelena coughed her words, trying to hide the pain she was in. "Yeah, you look fine" I shook my head as I peeled back her cloth bandage. "It doesn't look as bad as it feels" I looked at Yelena. "It'll be fine, some whisky will help with the pain" she replied. I'm no doctor but I did know that if she had enough whisky, the pain would fade away. "Eat something first. I'm going to go to town and see if there is anything I can get for you"
She placed a hand on my wrist and shook her head, "it's an infection, my body has to fight it. Just some whiskey will be fine" she spoke before coughing once more, "well I don't know about you, but I still need to go to town and get some supplies. I'll be sure to get you some more whisky" I replied as I began to reapply her bandage, "I'll get you a wet cloth for your temperature then I will be on my way" I added.
Yelena was in no shape to be moving from my bed and I was not too sure on how to help her. She was right, her wound was infected. I worried that maybe I caused it while I was trying to patch her up last night and I wasn't sure how I was going to help her recover.
I gently placed a cool, wet cloth on the bounty hunter's forehead, "I won't be long, you're lucky I live close" I remind her, she just smiled softly at me, too weak to say anything. "Get some rest" I turn to her before closing the door. I debated with myself whether I should lock the door for safety or not, I mean, she was still a stranger but I thought, given her situation, she'd still be in bed by the time I returned.
"Come on, Lucky! Let's go to town" I patted my thigh as Lucky comes running towards me from the living room. I grabbed some money, $5 from the money Yelena had given me last night and grabbed my mother's pouch bag before Lucky and I were on our way. The walk to town felt like any other morning walk, if you don't consider that I am hiding a stranger at my home. I greet everybody in passing with a smile and a soft good morning before I reach Mr Wilson's store.
"Good morning, Y/n. You're here a lot earlier than usual, is everything okay?" He asks with a concerned look. I smiled and nodded, "everything is well, I have just come for some supplies before Kate comes home tomorrow" I replied before grabbing a couple of apples from the basket. I grabbed a few small items such as a couple or peaches, some bread rolls, grounded coffee, butter crackers and a bottle of brandy.
"What does a young woman like you need with this?" Mr Wilson asked as I placed my items at the counter. "It's not for me!" I replied in a panic, "it's for my father, I just wanted to get him something nice for when he and mother come home" I added. My excuse worked like a charm, Mr Wilson nodded, "we both know how much your father likes his brandy" He chuckled has he took the $5 note from my hand, giving me the 50c in change. "Thank you" I smiled politely as I placed the items in my bag, "I'll be seeing you" I added before walking out of the store.
"Y/n, wait up!" I heard Peter call as Lucky and I slowly began to make our way home, I turned to see the young boy running towards us. "Good morning, Peter, what's the hurry?" I asked with a welcoming smile.
"Oh, no hurry" he smiled back, "I wanted to ask if you'd like to join me for a picnic lunch by small Talon's Lake?" He asked with such kindness. "If this was any other day, I would say yes but I can't today, I'm sorry. I have things to do around the ranch before Kate returns" I replied with a soft smile, hoping not to hurt his feelings.
"Well, that is more than okay. Maybe I could give you a hand, you know, early finish and we might still be able to make an afternoon of it" Peter offered, making it harder to kindly turn him down.
"Oh, I wouldn't want to make my issues yours" I replied as we began to slowly walk towards home. "Nonsense, I'd love to help" he insists.
Now my fear is him seeing the blonde stranger that is currently in my bed with a gunshot wound. Kate is due home tomorrow, and I don't think I want to hear her lecture about strangers at the homestead once more, but I also can't risk Peter growing any suspicion. "Well, if you insist. I guess I could use some help cleaning the barn if you're up for it" I suggest.
"Perfect! I love shovelling hay and horse droppings" Peter chuckled.
When we got back to the ranch, I gave Peter the okay to start without my while I used the excuse of putting away the store brought goods which to my relief, he was more than happy to do so. I waited until he disappeared into the barn before I rushed to my room to check on Yelena.
"I got you some brandy, but I have a friend here and you can't be seen" I handed her the bottle, I was glad to see that her condition hadn't worsened in my short absence. She chuckled as she popped open the bottle, "I don't think I have the energy to move to even be seen" she replied. Her eyes sparkled with the gentle kiss of sunlight that lit up the room and for some reason, I suddenly wished I was able to admire them for a moment longer, but that would be wrong.
"H-how are you feeling?" I asked, trying to distract myself from the beauty her eyes held.
"I'll be fine, I'll drink this and rest up. Go be with your friend" Yelena replied but I much rather be here with her, watching over her and learning more about her bounty hunting stories but with Peter here, I knew it wasn't possible. "Okay, I will try to be as fast as I can. I'm going to send him home after we clean the barn"
Yelena just nodded before taking a large mouthful of brandy as I walked out of the room, closing the door behind me. Peter had already started shoveling the old hay by the time I got to the barn to give him an extra hand, he greeted me with a smile that most other girls would've blushed over, and I thought maybe something was wrong with me.
"I wasn't sure where you wanted me to put anything, so I just started a pile over here, don't worry, I'll help you remove it" His words broke my train of thought, I smiled, "thank you. Let's get through this as quickly as we can, shall we?" I replied before grabbing a shovel.
After what seemed like hours, I was able to get Peter to move along and head home. I went back inside and washed myself off before I checked on Yelena. She was sleeping, the bottle of brandy sat on the wooden table beside my bed, maybe I was looking at her for a moment too long, but she looked so peaceful, like an angel being kissed by the sun for the first time. Lucky slight head butt on my leg snapped me from my trance, "come on boy, let's get you some food" I whispered before quietly closing the door.
----
I woke up to the alerting growl of Lucky by the front door, my hand hovered over the sawed off shotgun that lent up against the wall beside the door as I slowly opened the door. I was greeted with the warm, welcoming smile of Aunt May. All of us young ones called her Aunt May, she was basically an aunt to all of us.
"I'm so sorry, did I wake you?" She said.
"Oh, don't stress" I replied with a smile, "I should've been up already" I added.
"Well as long as I didn't wake you! Peter said that Kate was off on her hunting again, so I made you an applesauce cake, can't have you starving now can we?" Her smile returned as she handed me a small picnic basket with the delicious goods inside.
"You didn't have to do that, thank you aunt May!" I spoke, the smell of the freshly baked cake reminding me that I should have some breakfast and check that Yelena was still breathing. "I would invite you but the place it a bit of a mess" I added.
"That's okay love, I have a few other things I need to get done today. I just wanted to stop by and make sure you were okay"
"Thank you, I will be sure to try my hardest to save some of this for Kate too" I replied with a playful chuckle, "have a wonderful day" I added.
"You too honey, if you need anything, you know where to find me" Aunt May smiled once more before making her way towards the main gate. I closed the door and placed the basket on the dining table before knocking softly on my bedroom door. I heard a light groan come from Yelena, as I opened the door, I could see she was in worse shape than yesterday.
"Oh god, let me get you a wet cloth! You're sweating so much" I said in a panic before rushing to the kitchen. Lucky didn't follow me, he stayed by the foot of my bed to keep an eye on Yelena. Lucky isn't trained too much, he's just naturally a very smart dog, smarter than most. I quickly placed the cloth on Yelena's forehead, she was pale, and I knew her wound was becoming infected rather quickly. She groaned a little from the pain when I removed the bandage to have a look.
My mind was racing with worry, how on earth would I tell Kate that there might be a lifeless body in my bed? How to tell Kate that I let a complete stranger into our home? I can't let Yelena die! Then the only person I could think of that might be able to help was a woman who lives down the road. Her name is Wanda, people genuinely believe she's a witch. I don't believe she is, we all have things we are passionate about and to me, she's more like a herbalist to me.
"I need to get you something before this gets any worse" I said as I looked up at Yelena.
"I'll be fine, it'll pass" she replied, completely unbothered by the dangerous risk of dying!
I shook my head, "you're not dying on my watch!" I replied sternly. Yelena didn't fight back, she took another mouthful of brandy and closed her eyes. "Lucky, stay, I'll be back in few minutes" I commanded him just before I walked out the door. I quickly changed out of my night gown and walked out the back door. If I run through the small section of trees, I can get to Wanda's home quicker.
~Wanda's POV~
I was enjoying a hot black current tea that I made freshly when I heard a panicked knock on my door. As I made my way to the door, my eyes were caught by the parcel that was left on my porch yesterday, a letter was not attached but my name written in cursive was staring back at me.
"Y/n, is everything okay?" I asked after I opened the door. She was slightly out of breath, and she spoke very quickly, I could barely understand what she was saying. "Y/n, take a breath" I said, placing my hands on both her shoulders. A few moments passed and she began to calm down, something was wrong. "Now, tell me, is everything okay?" I asked once I knew she was able to talk in sense.
"Ye- Kate, she's hurt! Shot and it's getting infected fast, I don't know what to do!" she explained, my heart skipped a beat. These girls have always been so kind to me, I couldn't let anything happen to them. I nodded, "I have some tea that will slow the infection. I need a few days to make a medicine that will fight the infection, but I need to travel for the missing herbs, come in" I explained.
The younger sister followed me through to the kitchen, I noticed how she wasn't interested in eyeing my belongings as I reached for the jars of herbal tea. I gave her three small jars that would cover the days I needed to be able to make a cure. "Give her a jar a day! Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don't give her any alcohol, this is all she needs for now. Try to keep her temperature from peaking, I will stop by the day after tomorrow, okay?"
Y/n nodded, "she's already had some brandy is it okay to give her a mug now?" She asked.
"Yes, but not a single drop more of brandy or anything else" I replied.
"Thank you, Wanda, I will repay you for this!"
"Don't be silly, this is Kate's life we are talking about, there is no need to pay me" I told her, "The sooner she gets that into her system, the better" I reminded her. She nodded and thanked me once more before rushing out of my home. I wasted no time in gathering some basic needs before saddling Sparky up and beginning my journey to the Grand Point Mountains to pick some red sage.
~Y/n's POV~
I raced home with the jars that Wanda had given me, I didn't care for the twigs that got caught in my hair as I ran through the trees and bushes to get home. I wanted Yelena to take this as soon as possible. Kate was coming home tomorrow, and I needed Yelena to be in better condition than what she was.
Lucky was still sitting by the foot of my bed when I returned, Yelena seemed even weaker than before. "Here, I have something for you" I spoke softly as she barely opened her tired eyes, "drink this" I added, handing her the steel cup of herbal tea that Wanda had kindly given me. I watched as the bounty hunter took a mouthful; her face turned to disgust.
"What is that?" She asked.
"I have no idea, it's herbal tea, I think. It'll slow the infection from your wound for a few days until I am given a cure" I explained. Yelena took another mouthful of the tea as I took the almost emptied bottle of Brandy, "you can't have any more of this, just that tea" I told her, but she didn't seem to care too much.
Lucky ran out of the room with a bark that made me jump suddenly, "what is it boy?" I asked as if he could actually talk to me, I followed him and saw him patiently sitting at the front door wagging his tail on the wooden floor. He only ever did this if Kate was home or our parents had returned. My eyes widen as I rushed to the living room window that faced the front of our house. Arrow was being walked down the path by Kate, a large animal of some sort was stowed onto Arrows back, she was back too early!
Quickly, I ran back to my room. "Okay so, my sister is back, earlier than expected. So, until I have worked out why she's home early and how to tell her I am housing a stranger, I really, really need you to be as quiet as you possible can"
Yelena simply nodded, "I can do that" she replied.
"Thank you" I smiled softly before leaving her to get some rest, locking my bedroom door once again.
I waited for Kate to stable Arrow and come inside before I pretended to be surprised that she was home early. "Hey, do you know why there's blood in the barn?" Kate asked as she entered the living room where I was pretending to read a book.
"Kate! you're back early, everything okay? Uh, blood? Not a clue. I cleaned the barn out yesterday after you left. Peter helped, maybe he cut himself" I replied, trying my best to be as normal as I could.
"It's cruel that you lead that boy on" Kate shook her head, "there's a storm coming in. A big one by the looks and I didn't want to get caught in it" she added.
"Lead him on? I have never shown an ounce of interest in a romantic manner" I replied. Kate chuckled, "does he know that?"
I rolled my eyes at her and returned my attention to the book I had opened on a random page. "Come on, you can help me skin this elf before the storm hits" my sister instructed. I didn't fight her on it either, anything to keep her from finding Yelena in my bedroom was a good thing.
----
"I see aunt May dropped by" Kate said as she placed out dinner dishes in the sink to be washed.
"Yeah, apple sauce pie! She dropped it off this morning" I replied as I placed Lucky's dinner on the floor for him, elk meat that we couldn't eat.
"What's this?" Kate asked, holding one of the jars that Wanda had given me. I panicked as I racked my brain for an answer, "oh, just something Wanda gave me on her way to town this morning" I replied. My answer didn't seem to make Kate think of anything otherwise, she placed the jar down on the counter and turned on her feet to look at me, "well, I'm going to go wash up. Do you mind put some more wood on the fire?" she asked.
"Of course" I smiled.
While Kate was busy in the bathroom I took Yelena's third cup of Wanda's herbal tea into her. "I hope you don't mind I sleep in here tonight" I whispered, I planned to sleep on the floor on one of my father's old bedrolls that was kept under my bed.
"I hope you don't mind" Yelena whispered back before she downed the herbal tea in one go, "this tastes horrible, I hope you know that" she added.
"I can imagine" I smiled softly, "I'll be back once my sister has gone to bed" I added.

It was the morning from hell. I knew the moment I got in my car that it was not going to be a good day, and that turned out to be the case before I even made it into work. Now I was riding to the hospital in an ambulance, straddling a stranger and performing CPR.
“We’re about a minute out,” the EMT who was driving the vehicle called.
“Page Barnes,” I replied, as I counted out my chest compressions. The EMTs were adamant that they could handle the patient, but I wasn’t leaving his side and I was determined to keep him alive. I heard the doors to the ambulance open and the EMTs carefully unloaded the gurney keeping it as smooth as possible for me to work.
“What the hell…Y/N?” I heard. It was the first time he had spoken to me in weeks.
“Male in his forties, partially deaf. He was walking in a crosswalk and was hit head on by a car. He’s got a broken femur and has been in and out of consciousness with a really weak pulse.”
Bucky turned to the interns and said, “Take over for Y/L/N and get him to CT.”
One of the interns came over to the patient’s side to take my place and I replied, “I’ve got it.”
“Y/N, you’re bleeding,” Bucky stated firmly.
I turned toward him, “I’m fine,” I argued.
“You need to be examined.”
“Bucky,” I pleaded. He just shook his head and held out his hand. I knew arguing was no use, he could easily pull me down and I didn’t need a reminder of what it felt like to be in his arms. I climbed toward the side and took his hand as I jumped down.
“Go take an empty bed, I’ll send someone in to check on you.”
“I’m fine, I don’t need-”
“Let’s make sure, okay?” His eyes were full of concern, and I didn’t have it in me to argue with him, even if I disagreed. I nodded and he moved with the gurney into the pit.
“Buck?” I called before he could get too far. He stopped and turned back towards me. “Please don’t let him die.”
“He’s not going anywhere. I promise.” Bucky ran to catch up with his team. I thanked the EMTs and then found an empty station in the ER where I waited and hoped for the best..
I wasn’t sure how much time had passed since our arrival, but eventually Dr. Wilson came by.
“Hey there, Wonder Woman,” Sam said, approaching the bed I was sitting on.
“Wonder Woman?” I replied.
“Oh that’s what they’re calling you now.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re a hero. And a badass.”
I scoffed, “I was in the right place at the right time.”
“Yet you still managed to get scratched up,” he put on a pair of gloves. “What happened?”
I sighed, “I was driving to work and came to a stop at a redlight. The car next to me was looking to the left to make a right turn and accelerated, not seeing the pedestrian in the crosswalk. Clint, he’s the guy who got hit, he’s partially deaf and didn’t hear the car coming. The guy hit the accelerator pretty hard and didn’t break until he saw Clint hit the windshield.”
“That doesn’t explain how you got glass in your forehead.”
“I pulled over to the right to help out and the guy who started the accident backed up and hit my car.”
“Jesus. Was he drunk?”
“I don’t know, I didn’t really talk to him.”
“So what did you do?”
“I yelled for someone to call 911 and started to examine Clint. At first he was in shock, but he was responsive. So I asked him his name and about his job and his life to calm him down. He probably has a concussion. He kept losing consciousness and his pulse was really weak so they need to look at his heart too.”
“He’s already been taken in for scans.”
“Is he stable?”
“He’s stable.”
I eased at that, feeling better already.
“Now sit still. I’m going to pull out this glass from your forehead. Then I’ll clean out the lacerations and stitch you up.”
Sam started pulling out small pieces of crushed glass and placed them into a bowl. All the shards were pretty small, but it was still painful. I tried to keep the wincing to a minimum but it wasn’t comfortable. Talking seemed like a good way to keep me distracted from the pain.
“So they sent the head of plastics to come tend to a couple scrapes on my forehead.”
Sam chuckled, “Bucky wanted to do it himself but I wouldn’t let him. You would’ve ended up with two big scars on your pretty little forehead.”
I let out a small smile, “Yeah I don’t think his talents would be best served stitching me up.”
“Stitching? You know that man doesn’t do sutures; you would’ve been glued back together.”
I let out a hearty laugh, knowing Sam was correct.  He added, “He wanted the best for you, which is why I volunteered. Told him I’d give you the VIP treatment.”
I sighed, “Just stitch me up so I can go help.”
“I’m sending you to CT after this.”
“What!?”
“You were in a car accident, Y/N. I’d be a bad doctor if I didn’t order you a head CT.”
“I don’t have any symptoms!”
“You’re also running on adrenaline. Just get the scans done and we’ll figure out next steps from there”
“Fine.” I was getting used to not getting my way today.
“Sit tight for now. We’ll have someone take you to get your scans shortly.”
Tumblr media
“Dr. Barnes, Clint’s back from CT. He seems much more stable now. Dr. Rogers is in there examining his femur,” one of the interns provided him an update. He thanked him and headed back to Clint’s room. Sure enough, Steve was in there, examining the break in his leg and studying the chart. Bucky knocked on the open door before walking through to his patient.
“Mind if I interrupt?” he said.
“Not at all,” Steve said.
“Hi Clint. I’m Dr. Barnes. I'm head of the trauma team and I’ve been overseeing your care since you got here.”
 “How am I looking, doc?”
“You’re doing really well. Dr. Rogers here is going to take you into surgery to repair your femur. You have a little bit of internal bleeding that we’re gonna fix up while you’re in there. As long as everything goes smoothly, you should be able to live a perfectly normal life.”
He let out a sigh of relief, “Thank God she was there.”
“Dr. Y/L/N?” Steve asked.
“Is that Y/N?” Clint asked.
“She’s one of our best” Steve confirmed with a nod.
“She was so badass. She came out of nowhere and took complete control of everything. I was freaking out and she just came over, started talking to me and calmed me down. She was yelling out commands to everyone and insisted the ambulance take us here. She stayed with me the whole time. It was amazing.”
“Sounds like Y/N,” Bucky said.
“Is she single? Do you think she’d go out with me? I figure I owe her dinner at the very least.”
Steve eyed Bucky and raised an eyebrow, forcing Bucky to answer that question.
“I…uh…I don’t know. You’d have to ask her.”
“If you see her, would you mind sending her in? So that I can thank her.”
Steve could see Bucky growing jealous and he hoped it might knock some sense into his friend.
“Yeah, I think she’s getting some scans done,” was all Bucky could muster. Steve jumped in to review the plan for surgery and let Clint know they were currently prepping the OR for him. Bucky excused himself and went to check on Y/N before he had to scrub in.
Tumblr media
After what seemed like ages, all my scans were done and I sat there half-watching soap operas, waiting for the results. I heard the curtain pull back and figured it was Sam with my results.
“Can I go?” I whined. When I turned toward the visitor, I was surprised to find it wasn’t Sam at all. It was Bucky. “Hi…” I managed.
“How are you feeling?” he asked, looking at my chart.
“I’m fine. How’s Clint?”
“He’s good. We’re about to take him down to surgery. Steve is going to fix his femur and he has a little internal bleeding so we’re going to patch that up.”
“So he’ll be okay?”
“He should be fine.”
“Good.”
“He was asking about you.”
“Really?”
“Sounds like you did a great job at the scene.”
I gave him a half smile, “Thanks.”
“I got your scans back and everything looks good. Just take it easy the next few days. Sam will keep an eye on your lacerations and will remove your stitches in five days.”
“So I can go?” I asked.
He nodded, “I’ll sign your discharge papers. But you are going home. You aren’t sticking around here.”
I wanted to protest, but I knew he was probably right. He placed my chart back on the edge of the bed and turned to go.
“That’s it?”
“What, did you have questions?”
“Bucky, you haven’t even looked at me these past few weeks and now you’re just gonna act like nothing happened?”
He looked up at the ceiling before looking back towards me, “We’re not doing this.”
“Come on, Bucky. Please talk to me.”
He shook his head, and just walked away, leaving me sitting there, feeling hopeless.
Tumblr media
After a few days of restless “rest” I returned to the hospital, hoping to get cleared so that I could clock in for my shift. I had all the nurses page Sam as I anxiously sat in the waiting room.
“You’re a day early,” Sam called as he walked toward the row of chairs.
“I’m actually just a spectacular patient who follows all the doctor’s care instructions.”
Sam gave me a look but sat in an open chair and signaled for me to lean in. He gently placed his hands on my face and tilted my head to study the wound.
“It is healing up pretty nicely. We can get those stitches out today.”
“Yessss,” I celebrated.
“Go pop in one of those empty rooms and I’ll be right in.”
I followed his directions and told the nurses which room I was taking. Sam entered a few moments later with his tools.
He started removing the surgical thread and I couldn’t stand the silence, so I made small talk.
“How is he?” I asked.
“Who Clint? His surgery went well as far as I know. You can probably go see him today.”
“Oh…I, uh, I meant Bucky.”
“Oh,” Sam said, taken by surprise. “He’s uh…he’s Bucky.”
“That’s very helpful,” I said sarcastically.
“Well I don’t know what to say. He’s…he’s not himself.”
“How do I get him to talk to me?” I hated how desperate I sounded, but it reflected how I felt. It was only getting worse for me.
Sam let out a deep exhale. “If I knew the answer to that, I would’ve told you weeks ago.”
“It’s like he’s his own worst enemy.”
“He’s stubborn. But he’ll come around.”
“You think?”
Sam shrugged, pulling out the last of the sutures. “One way or another.”
His response was vague, but he left before I could question him further.
Tumblr media
Once Sam officially cleared me, I changed into my scrubs. Before I officially clocked into my shift, I went to check on Clint. He was recovering for a few days in the hospital before he’d be released. I poked my head in the door and found Steve in the room, doing a quick check up.
“There’s my hero,” Clint said, smiling at me. I blushed and looked down before smiling back.
“Am I interrupting?” I asked Steve.
“No, you can come in.”
I stepped into the room and walked over to Clint’s side.
“How are you feeling?” I asked him.
“Much better now.”
I smiled at him and then turned to Steve, “He’s doing okay?”
Steve nodded, “He’s doing great.”
“I told you I’d get you the best care,” I said to Clint.
“I think you gave me the best care. Without you, I don’t know that I’d be here.”
“Well, I guess we’ll never know,” I smiled. Clint grabbed my hand and gave it a squeeze.
“Hey, so this situation has obviously had a big impact on me and I can’t thank you enough for everything you did”
“You don’t have to thank me. This is my job,” I replied.
“I know, but you made sure I was in good hands and taken care of. And I know I would regret it if I didn’t do this so I have to ask…would you like to go to dinner with me on Friday?”
I was shocked, not expecting this. Clint was a good looking man, and he would probably make a great boyfriend. But I wasn’t ready to give up on Bucky.
“Like…on a date?” I asked for clarification.
“Yeah, a date,” he said confidently. I was looking at Clint but I could feel Steve’s eyes on me as I responded.
I placed my other hand on Clint’s, so that his hand was sandwiched between mine, “Clint, I am so flattered, but I’m not really in a place to date at the moment.”
“Is Friday not a good time? Because I’m flexible, we could do Saturday. Or whenever you’re free really.”
I smiled at him, “It’s not the day. I just…” I considered my words carefully, “my heart belongs to someone else.” I kept my focus on Clint, not able to handle Steve’s knowing glance.
“Ah, of course you have a boyfriend. Lucky bastard.”
“But I’ll still swing by and make sure you’re doing okay before you’re discharged.”
Clint gave my hand a sweet kiss and said, “I will always be so grateful for you Y/N. I wish you all the happiness in the world.”
“Same to you Clint. You’ve got a long life ahead of you, don’t waste it.” With that, I released his hand and stepped out of the room.
Tumblr media
Once Sam finished removing Y/N’s stitches, he knew he had to find Steve. Sam had a busy morning ahead of him and was grateful when he ran into Steve pouring a cup of coffee in the resident’s lounge on his break.
“We gotta do something,” Sam said.
“About what?” Steve asked, sipping on his java. Sam gave him a look that said it all. “Bucky and Y/N?” Steve added.
Sam nodded, “He’s miserable and she’s still pining. And I don’t know how much longer I can watch this.”
“I feel the same way. Two idiots in love.”
“So what do we do?”
Steve thought for a moment “We need to get them in the same place at the same time. That’s not the hospital.”
“And has alcohol,” Sam added.
“But not Pym’s. Somewhere more…private.”
“Can we get her to Bucky’s house?” Sam asked. A wide grin spread over Steve’s face.
“No, but I think we can get her to mine…”
Tumblr media
I rang the doorbell of the house, feeling slightly nervous. This was my first “work” party and I had no idea what to expect. Honestly. I was surprised that I was even invited. I had been working with Steve on ortho all week and it had been going well. Still, I wasn’t expecting an invitation to his housewarming party. I wasn’t really looking forward to the party, but wanted to make an appearance. At the very least, I thought I might see Bucky in a somewhat normal setting where I could maybe corner him and force a conversation.
What I did not expect was for Bucky to answer the door. I’m sure I looked stunned as I said, “Oh, hi.”
“Hi…” he said, as if seeking an explanation. He was dressed in sweats and a T-shirt, and he was barefoot.
“Am I early?” I asked him.
Now he looked thoroughly confused. “Early for what?”
“The housewarming party…” Bucky was still squinting in confusion, so I added, “Steve told me to bring gin…”
Bucky shook his head, “Um, Steve isn’t here. And he’s lived in this house for three years.”
Now it was my turn to look confused. “...What?”
Bucky sighed, “This is a set up.”
Again, I said, “What?”
“They meddled. They’re forcing us together.”
“So…why are you here then?”
“I’m dog-sitting for Steve.”
“Oh,” I said, finally realizing what had happened. Despite being fooled, I didn’t feel embarrassed. And I didn’t want to go home just yet.
“So….can I come in?” I asked. Bucky looked like he wasn’t sure what to say. “I have gin,” I cheesed, holding up the full bottle of Tanqueray.
He bit back a smile and opened the door wider, allowing me to come inside. I was immediately met by a smiling golden retriever. I placed the gin on a nearby table and crouched down in order to give some love to the pup.
“This is Liberty,” Bucky introduced.
“Hello Liberty!” I exclaimed, scratching her behind the ears as she happily panted. She quickly laid onto her back and I started scratching her belly, as she rolled around happily.
“She’s so sweet,” I commented.
“Yeah, she is pretty great.” Bucky was a few feet away in the kitchen and asked, ‘Do you want something to drink?” I picked up the Tanqueray and brought it over to him.
“Just a gin and tonic or gin and soda. Whatever Steve has.” I slid the bottle across the counter toward him as he pulled out two glasses.
“So tequila is for celebrating, whiskey is for wallowing…what is gin for?” he asked, as he poured a generous amount of gin into each of the glasses. He topped the drinks off with a little bit of tonic and then sliced up a lime and placed a wedge into each glass.
“Gin is for…heart-to-hearts,” I offered. He eyed me cautiously before handing me one of the glasses. I held it up, waiting for him to meet my glass, and eventually he did. Once we clinked, we both took a sip, and then stood there awkwardly in the kitchen.
“Are you ready to talk to me?” I offered, not wanting to waste any more precious time.
He shook his head, “Not really.”
I took a seat at the kitchen island and pulled out another stool, signaling for him to sit. He looked at the seat before finally giving in and sitting down next to me.
He turned to look at me and yet again I said, “Hi.” This was turning into my catch phrase around him. But I uttered it now because I wasn’t sure where to start.
Bucky let the slightest bit of a smile show and said, “Hi.” He broke eye contact and stared into his drink, and I realized I might need to nudge him a bit more.
“Look, if you’re not ready to talk about what happened, that’s okay. But I can’t take the silent treatment anymore. I’m going crazy and I don’t know how to help you.”
He let out a deep breath, “I’m not good at opening up...”
“Then just…tell me about your day.” He peered back up at me, uncertain and I shrugged, “We’ve gotta start somewhere.”
And so he did. He told me about the cases he had and I interjected with a cheeky comment every now and then to try and ease some of the tension, which surprisingly worked. Talking with him was always so easy and I just wanted to remind him of that. As the story of his day winded down, I took the liberty of refilling the now empty glasses with gin. I placed the fresh drink in front of Bucky and pushed, “Tell me about the PTSD.”
He surprised me when he didn’t argue. He mentally prepared by gulping down a third of his fresh drink.
“When I first got back from Afghanistan, it was pretty bad. It mostly manifested when I went to bed, in the form of night terrors. It was really terrible for a while. I would wake up in the morning surrounded by feathers with a knife in my bed, having attacked one of my pillows because I thought it was an enemy. I literally would walk through the house looking for weapons in my sleep. After that, I started locking the door and seeing a therapist who helped me work through a lot of it. And I started to get better. I still had the occasional nightmare, but I was able to manage it. I started to feel like myself again. I could get through most days without a flashback and I wasn’t constantly haunted by memories.”
I could see him starting to get emotional, so I reached out for his hand.
“Seeing you, with those marks on your neck, was evidence that I’m still broken. We’re lucky that this time it was just my hands and not a knife or a baseball bat. I can’t risk something happening to you.”
“Bucky, you are more than your PTSD. Did you ever consider that maybe we could work through this together?” I offered. He didn’t look at me, focusing all his energy on the drink in front of him. “You just pushed me away without even considering our options.”
“I was trying to protect you.”
“Bull. Shit. Things got tough and you bailed. Did you know I pulled you out of your haze? You had your hands around my neck and I was able to stop you and bring you back. So I believe we can work through this. Maybe it's locking the doors at night. Maybe we don’t have sleepovers for a little while. I don’t know the solution, but I’m willing to figure out something that works.”
“Y/N…” he sighed.
“No, don’t do that. Don’t give up on us.” Now I was starting to get emotional. My voice cracked as I continued. “You know we have something special. Hell, you knew before I did. And I resisted against this the best I could because I didn’t want to get distracted. Which backfired because trying not to think about you was more distracting than just succumbing to your charms. But I figured it out and I opened myself up to something more and just when I finally accept that I’m falling in love, this happens. And the thing that hurts the most is how quickly you decided to throw this away. To throw…me…away,” the last line came out as a whisper.
Bucky bore his eyes into his drink, unable to watch her tear up and in so much pain, knowing he caused all of this. It felt like a lose-lose situation, either way she ended up hurt. At least if he pushed her away, she still had the chance to live a happy life.
I wiped away a stray tear with the heel of my hand and took a big sip of my drink, trying to distract myself from the feelings creeping up inside me. When I looked over at Bucky, he was frozen but there was no emotion behind his eyes. He was fixated ahead, refusing to look at me. That was the moment I realized this was a lost cause. There was nothing else I could say.
I let out the deep breath I didn’t realize I was holding and placed my near-empty glass on the counter.
“Okay then,” I said, collecting the few things I brought with me. “Goodbye, Bucky.”

Wilson's Pov
"Yeah...yeah. It's alright hun...I'll talk to Cuddy and see if I can get the rest of the day off...No, I'm coming to meet you...I-I love you..." I was still talking to my wife when House came in. "I'll see you soon. Bye." I hung up and dragged my hand down my face as I sighed in frustration, desperately trying not to break down. Not again.
"What's wrong? I haven't even started talking, and you already look like you want to kill yourself." House said as he walked over to my couch.
"Nothing." I said a little too defensively. He quirked a brow at my seemingly unwarranted anger. "Look, I've got to talk to Cuddy so I can get someone to cover me, and I can take the rest of the day off. I'll see you tomorrow." I got up and started packing my things and headed for the door before turning around and looking at House. "Lock up for me." I said before leaving. After all, with all the pranks he's pulled on me throughout the years, there's no doubt in my mind that he already has a copy of my key.
I made my way to Cuddy's office. She was doing paperwork but looked up at me and smiled when I entered.
"Dr. Wilson. To what do I owe the pleasure?" She said before a look of distaste came over her face. "Please tell me you are not here to try and convince me to follow through with one of House's harebrained schemes." I tried to smile, but it came out more as a grimace.
"Actually, I need the rest of the day off." Her eyebrows furrowed. "It's a...family...emergency." I tried to cover up the fact I started to choke up at the word 'family' by coughing and averting my eyes. She smiled sympathetically.
"Of course. I'll get someone to cover for you." She nodded as I started to the door. "And Wilson. I'm really sorry." I nodded and hurried to the car.
After a long and grim car ride, I finally arrived at the hospital.
"I'm looking for my wife? Mrs. y/n Wilson." The receptionist quickly directed me to her room. It took everything in me not to run when I saw the doors to her room. Upon getting closer, I picked up my pace and rushed into the room. She jumped at the sudden movement before looking at me. Tears streamed down her face, but once I met her eyes, we both fully broke down. I quickly knelt beside her and took her in my arms. "I'm so sorry, baby." I shook my head as she pushed hers into the crook of my neck.
"I was so close!" She cried as my heart wrenched at her words.
"I know...I know sweetheart." I whispered as I stroked her hair.
"One more week! One...more...week...and the risk would've lowered to 2-4%." She shook her head, her face still buried in my chest. "It's not fair! I thought I did everything right..."
"It's not...it's not. You did do everything right it's not your fault. It's-it's just...bad luck." I could feel her tears seep into my shirt as my own fell into her hair.
Eventually, the hospital discharged her, not before offering their condolences. I asked her if she wanted me to pick her something up on the way home, but she just shook her head and continued to stare out the window. Clearly, we both had lost our appetite for today.
Once we got home, we sat for a second before I went over to her side of the car. We made our way into the apartment, and I sat her down on the couch. I sat down next to her, and she leaned on my shoulder as I held her.
"We-we can always try again." I rubbed her arm and kissed her hair, but she shook her head.
"What's the point?" She said she sounded defeated. "It's the second one in a year...maybe-maybe I wasn’t...meant to be a mother." Her voice wavered as she held back her tears. "Maybe it's for the best. I probably would've made a terrible mom anyway." She laughed bitterly.
"No! No. You'd be the perfect mother! You're sweet, kind, caring, nurturing..." I tried to comfort her as we both cried. "We don't have to give up. I'm-I'm willing to try as many times as possible. All the time. I'll take off work, and we'll just-just make babies all week."
"Are you sure you could handle that?" She shook her head as she laughed.
"Well...maybe give me a few minutes between tries, but..." She laughed harder, her tears temporarily stopped. I smiled hearing her giggle even if it was at my expense.
"I really thought it'd work this time..." She smiled sadly as the brief happiness wore off. "After two miscarriages...the doctor said that your chances just keep getting worse and worse with each loss."
"I know...but we can try all kinds of things. IVF, donors, adoption..." I tried to cheer her up, give her a little hope as I kissed her temple.
"Yeah...I just...I really wanted to carry our baby. To feel them grow and kick and..." Tears started to stream down her face again. I sighed and rested my forehead against her hair.
"I'm sorry sweetheart."
The next day, I begrudgingly went to work. Y/n insisted that she'd be ok. I tried to stay in my office for the majority of the day but was called in and out for consultations.
I finally had a free moment in my office and went to call her when House barged in.
"Good, you're here. If I didn't know any better, I would've thought you were avoiding me." I rolled my eyes and tried to focus on dialing our home phone. It finally started to dial, but just as it began to ring, House hung up the receiver with his cane.
"House!" I shouted a little too angrily.
"Wilson!" He mocked. I sighed. "What is up with you? Trouble with the Mrs?" I ignored him in favor of looking over discarded paperwork. "So it is...what fourth ex Mrs. Wilson? That's too bad. This one wasn't totally awful." He continued to ramble on. "Did you cheat on her? She cheat on you? Stop 'meeting your manly needs'?"
"Stop!" I shouted, slamming down the files, finally having enough of his taunting. "For once in your life, can you just shut up? I'm tired and I'm frustrated! And don't even ask if I mean frustrated as in sexually frustrated!" He only stared as I broke down. I rested my head on the palms of my hands as I tried to calm down. By the time I looked back up, he was gone. "Jerk." I shook my head as I redialed my wife's cell.
House's Pov
At the sight of Wilson's pathetic breakdown, I left. Something's obviously wrong. However, he'd never admit it...at least not without being all emotional and crap. I rolled my eyes just thinking about it.
I finally made it to Cuddy's office. I walked in on what looked like a meeting with the head of trauma.
"Cuddy!" She rolled her eyes while apologizing to the doctor before she turned to me.
"House, I'm a little busy."
"I'll take care of this." I walked in front of the doctor. "Thanks for your sub-par service. You're fired. Bye." I turned back to Cuddy. "See? You're not busy." She scoffed before dismissing him, apparently deciding she didn't want to fight.
"Ok then, House." She folded her hands in front of her before giving me an over exaggerated and forced smile. "How can I help you?"
"Glad you're so willing." She rolled her eyes as I ignored her blatant sarcasm. "Something's wrong with Wilson." Her face dropped for a second before she quickly fixed her facade.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe you should ask him." She said as she quickly busied herself with files.
"Liar!" I whacked my cane on her desk, making her jump. "Tell me."
"It's not my business to tell, and frankly, it's none of yours either." I scoffed before heading towards the door.
"I'm taking the rest of the day off!" I said and quickly walked away before she could stop me.
Your Pov
I had been curled up on the couch the entire day, eating comfort food and watching reruns. I had been intermittently crying throughout the day and just got off the phone with James. Even at work, he insisted on checking in on me. I got up to throw out the empty carton of ice cream when the doorbell rang.
"Coming!" I discarded the trash and quickly tried to freshen myself up by raking my fingers through my hair and swiping at the tear stains. I opened the door to be faced with the one and only..."House?" He pushed past me and let himself in. I closed the door behind him and followed. "Shouldn't you be at the hospital?" I asked as he sat down on the couch, put his feet up on the coffee table, and started scrolling through the tv channels.
"How are you and Wilson?" I raised a brow at the question. House was never one for pleasantries.
"Fine..." I said still suspicious of his motives.
"How's the sex?" I blushed a little at his bold question.
"Good..." He turned to me with his brows raised.
"Just good?" I rolled my eyes, becoming increasingly agitated.
"I meant great, no spectacular!" I said sarcastically. I sighed. "What do you want House? I'm tired, and I'm frustrated."
"Aha!" I looked at him confused. "Wilson said the exact same thing today." Oh. I sat down beside him and grabbed the bag of chips I had left on the table.
"Did...did he tell you?" I asked as I sucked on a chip, my eyes staying focused on the tv.
"Yes." I swallowed the salty snack before sighing sadly.
"I...I don't know what to do. We want a baby so bad, but...I'm not sure I can handle a third miscarriage." He sighed before putting his hand on my knee. I looked up at him, a strange, sorrowful, almost regretful look on his face.
"Well...third time's the charm." I smiled weakly at the odd but caring sentiment.
"Yeah. Third time's the charm."
It was late in the evening by the time James got home. House had left hours ago, of course not before eating us out of house and home and making me binge his favorite soap with him.
"Hey babe." He leaned down and pecked me on the lips.
"Hi..." I said softly. He came back from putting his things away.
"Are-are you ok?" He sat next to me and held my hands. His eyes were filled with worry.
"House stopped by." I look of shock and worry crossed his face.
"What...what did he want?"
"He said you told him." I shook my head and laughed a little. "Told me 'third time's the charm'." I felt tears pool in my eyes.
"I'll be right back..." He kissed my hairline before suddenly standing up and storming out of the house.
Wilson's Pov
I hated to leave her, but I was blinded by rage. House had once again meddled with our lives, and this time, I would not stand for it.
I finally reached House's apartment building. I stormed in before finding his door and pounding on it.
"House! I know you're in there!" I continued to hit the door until he opened it.
"Hey buddy! Come in." He said cheerfully. "I assume the wife told you about my little visit."
"You had no right!" I jabbed my finger in his chest as he rolled his eyes and pulled me inside. I tried to protest, but he pushed me onto the couch with his cane.
"Sit." He then hobbled off and came back with a stack of papers. "After I left your apartment, I decided to do a little research." He slammed down the papers on the coffee table. "In these papers, you'll find the best foods, diets, sleeping and sitting positions, medications, etc. for keeping your pregnancy safe and preventing miscarriages. As well as the number of a competent OBG." I looked at him in shock.
"What?"
"Oh! Also, here's a list of the best sex positions to use during pregnancy." He handed me a paper. "It's technically safe to do all kinds of sex as long as you don't have any diseases and your doctor doesn't tell you otherwise. Although if I were you, I'd just ask for hand and blow jobs so you don't have to do anything but still get to have that special happy ending." He shrugged as I still stared at him in shock. I quickly shook my head, knocking myself out of my trance.
"First off. I'm not doing that. Secondly, my sex life is none of your business, and thirdly...thank you...I guess?" I started to look through the papers. Some of the information we had already known but there were plenty of things we hadn't thought of. I reached the page of the OBG. "Wait. This is the top OBG in the city. And it says that an appointment is already scheduled." I looked up at him in disbelief. "We've been trying to get in with her for months. How did you-?" He cut me off.
"She owes me a favor." I furrowed my eyebrows as he rolled his eyes and sighed. "Just leave and go have hot sex with your wife." I rolled my eyes as he turned to walk towards his kitchen. "Oh, and try out position number eight on that list! Did that with a hooker once. She almost quit hooking after that, wanted to get hitched right then and there!" I sighed. He was incredibly selfish and strange but...he cared...in his own screwed up way.
I entered the apartment with the stack of papers. Everything was quiet.
"Y/n?" I heard some shuffling before she came into view. I sighed and hugged her. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have left like that I was just-" She cut me off with a kiss.
"Mad?" I nodded. "When you left in such a hurry after I told you about House...well, I figured you must not have actually told him and that he had lied to me." Our foreheads pressed together.
"Right...I'm still sorry." She stroked my cheek and smiled slightly.
"It's alright." She dragged me to the couch. "What are all those papers for?"
"Right! House printed out all this information for us..." She took the pages and looked through them.
"Well...these are certainly...specific." I looked over to see the paper she had was the one about the best sex positions for during pregnancy. I blushed a little as I saw the diagrams with explicit instructions.
"That's-that was House's...idea. I figured we could just throw that page away." She laughed lightly as she continued to look through the stack.
"I don't know. They might be...fun." She continued to giggle until she suddenly stopped. "We have an appointment with Dr. Ryans?" She gasped in excitement. "How?" I smiled and shrugged as she looked towards me.
"Apparently, she owes House a favor." She quirked a brow. "I don't know why, I figured it's probably better I didn't ask." She laughed and nodded in silent agreement.
"We should go to bed." I raised a brow and smirked.
"To bed or to bed?" She laughed and patted my cheek.
"The first one." I put on an exaggerated pout before getting up and following her.
Your Pov
It had been a few months since the second miscarriage. It was hard, but thankfully, I had James. Together, we slowly got through it.
Tonight, I sat in the bathroom. A familiar plastic stick sat on the counter. I waited with baited breath. My phone alarm went off, and I quickly grabbed the test. Positive! I screamed in excitement, and James quickly came running in.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt?" I showed him the pregnancy test. He grinned and picked me up and spun us around before grabbing my face and kissing me. "You're pregnant?" He asked the shock, still clear on his face. I nodded excitedly before bringing him in a deep kiss. When I pulled back for air, I saw the tears in his eyes, and I could feel my own start to fall.
"I'm gonna miss our other two babies." I said. I was elated to be pregnant again, but it was bitter sweet. I was still scared for the future. He nodded.
"I know. I know. But they're safe now." I cried as he stroked my cheek, our foreheads pressed together. "We'll figure this out...together." He said as if he had read my mind. I smiled. I couldn't be more grateful for these moments even if they were tinged with a little pain.
"There's no one I'd rather go through this with."
