like sincerely I have not been paying attention at all to what ms. swift is saying. anyways. the opinion that follows is unsurprising to me as I don't like ballads and I've always been picky about my swift songs but the only track off the album that had my ears perking up was I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can). interesting instrumentation and I'm very into the percussion on that track. wish she'd throw more power into her voice (I think she was getting there on Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?) but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ whatcha gonna do

Let yourself decorate this room to your desire, maybe its walls are covered by books by a certain author ? Maybe the wall space is filled to the brim with posters of a fandom you love ? Add the people you love, those you trust whole heartedly here in this cozy room of yours. Maybe there are no such people, only a pet you love dearly.

Add treasured items maybe a set of markers given to you by your grandmother before she passed, maybe a cap signed by your favorite athlete .

Perhaps pictures you and your friends and fond times, coffee shops you like? A recipe you and your best friend made at five. This is your Gold Rush room, a source of comfort, relief, carried in a little piece of your heart. A place where peace prevails. Somewhere you can hide from everything, everyone.

But that is the curse of the Gold Rush room, you may get lost not wanting to deal with reality, grief, rage. Think, what does the Gold Rush room represent for you? Reading, thinking about stories of characters or even real people, but the story isn't yours.

This person you read about, fantasize about they aren't you they could be like you but they aren't you. Maybe your gold rush room is writing, maybe the story is yours but it won't continue if you stay in your room all day huddled up under blankets.

Maybe your Gold rush room is music, screaming your throat dry to lyrics you've memorised as a way to soothe the pain on the inside. Whatever your gold rush is it could be healthy or unhealthy, you don't have to stop completely, imagine a life without reading or drawing, thousands of years of Art would be lost.

But don't get lost in Art, it is a place of mystery & discovery, of wonder and triumph. This mess of words itself was inspired by a work of art specifically the line " I don't like that falling feels like flying 'till the bone crush " From the song Gold Rush by Taylor Swift.

This line was a warning against losing yourself to someone or something you love. Again this doesn't mean Art isn't worth making, it means to have a healthy balance, to only carry a small part of your gold rush. Your head bumps against the car window as you jolt awake.

“About time that you woke up, babe,” Luke grins, his eyes still on the road. Blinking slowly, you look around at the trees blurring together as you stare out the window, recognizing where you are. The two of you were driving up from your apartment in Brooklyn, finally going to see his mom for the weekend. With graduation steadily approaching in the next few months, there was a lot to think about.

“How long was I out?” you groan, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes. The sun is setting now, and a blue “Welcome to Connecticut! We’re Full of Surprises!” sign whizzes past the passenger window.

“Just an hour, but I got a little lonely,” Luke hums, rubbing circles on your thigh while his other hand is on the wheel. You lace your fingers with his own, watching him yawn. You can tell he needs this, and with all the time your dad drags you back to Montauk for ‘consults’, it’d be nice to get a dose of normal for once.

“Poor baby.”

Laughter spills out of you like a melody as you crack open the still-cold redbull in the cupholder, and he can’t help but admire your side profile as you take big sips. He’s so in love with you, and this weekend will be perfect. It has to be.

“Mmm, want some?”

Your boyfriend takes a sip, smiling when he hears you singing along to a Taylor Swift song. As you hold up an imaginary microphone for him to warble into, the distance to his childhood home gets smaller and smaller, until you spot the white picket fence of the property and squeal in excitement.

“Hurry up, I wanna see your mom!” you giggle, stomping your feet onto the car floor as he drives up the grassy path and honks loudly.

“Hey, I thought I was your favorite Castellan, trouble…” Luke says and his voice trails off when he sees his mom peeking through the kitchen window, waving at you.

“Whatever you say, angelface.”

You almost hop out of the car and run up the steps to hug her, gentle hands pulling you into a feeling of comfort only mothers can give.

“Hi Ms. Castellan!”

“Oh honey, I told you May is fine, or Mom. You’re already my favorite kid!” she grins, her smile exactly like her son’s, and the both of you turn to hear Luke grumbling as he pops the trunk to get your bags.

“Hi mommy,” Luke chuckles, bumping your hip to push you into the house as he kisses May’s cheek, “Stop being so obvious, you’re gonna spoil my surprise!” His hands fumble with the bags as he props a knee up to readjust his hold on your backpack and May’s hands reach out to help him.

“No, it’s okay, I got it, I got it…”

May catches the ring box that falls out of Luke’s back pocket, holding it to her chest with a knowing smile.

“You’re always gonna need some help, whether you admit it or not, my love.” She tucks the box into the pocket of his flannel shirt, patting it before she pinches his cheek.

“Luckily, you have a woman like her. Bless her heart for what you’ll put her through,” May says laughing at his scrunched-up expression.

“Guess I’m just scared she’ll say no.”

Luke sighs, looking at her like she holds the answers to the world.

“She’ll be crazy if she says no,” she reasons, and they both listen to you setting the table in the dining room.

“No, she’ll be crazy if she says yes. That’s why I want to marry her,” he snorts, bringing the bags in through the doorway.

“Um, mom? I think the cookies are burning!” you call out, sounding panicked.

The weight of the box in his pocket feels heavy, but his heart has never felt so light and sure of what’s to come.

Daniel Ricciardo couldn't believe that he was invited to attend the Grammys. It wasn't like he did anything groundbreaking in the realm of the music industry - but thanks to his amazing management - he was finally there. Normally, he hated award shows because of the cameras that were shoved in his face.

But he couldn't find himself hating this award show.

His favorite singer, Y/N L/N, was going to be in the same table as him. He crossed his fingers - maybe even beside him?

"God, I'm so sorry for being late. There was a mile long traffic back there," you ran to embrace Beyonce, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek as you settled in your seat. Daniel began to realize that he was extremely lucky to be seating where he was.

"Daniel Ricciardo, right?" you smiled at him with those pensive E/C eyes - pulling him back into reality. "Yes, I'm a big fan." he shook your hand, feeling those soft palms press against his.

If this was a dream, he didn't want to wake up.

"Is it your first time in the Grammys?" you inquired, gently fiddling with the hems of your dress. "Yeah," he scratched the back of his head - oblivious to the cameras that were planted on the both of you. "It's nice to have someone to relate to," you chuckled as it was also your first time. "I heard that award shows could get pretty boring," you consulted in him.

Daniel felt so fucking special in that moment.

You were sitting beside Beyonce, but chose to speak to him. Fuck, does that mean that he was better than Beyonce? Nope, that's blasphemy - but still, it was flattering to think that you'd choose him.

"Tell me when you get bored, there's an ice-cream place just around the corner. We could grab a few bites." he offered - taking a leap of fate. "Sounds like a plan," you smiled and he could feel the crimson blush creep up his cheeks.

This was something that he'd never forget. He couldn't wait to return to the paddocks and tell Sebastian that he had ice cream with THE Y/N L/N. "Is strawberry your favorite?" he asked, seeing you gobble down the large sized roll. "Yep, I put it in everything." you smiled.

It's been a month since you last tasted strawberry ice cream - you almost forgot how good it tasted. "I'm having a lot of fun, Dan." you complimented - seeing that the tip of his nose was coated with a chocolate syrup. "Darling, there's a little something -" you motioned.

He almost forgot how to move after hearing you call him that.

He flashed you his toothy grinned smile, before wiping the syrup off his nose. "So uhh, I'd like to get your number - so we can hang out another time." you asked, staring deep into his eyes.

Daniel realized that this was the chance of a lifetime. He almost reached for his phone to give you his number - but then he realized. He left his phone at home and he didn't memorize his number.

So instead of giving you his number - he came up with something that he'd regret until the day he died - or until the day he met you again. "No." he answered with confidence. "What?" your eyes narrowed, and he smiled again.

"I'll ask for your number the next time that I see you. To check if fate is really on our side." he explained and you could only smile back.

summary: female reader (she/her) x Mattheo Riddle You had always been close with Mattheo. You weren’t exactly sure when things changed but you’re love for a friend turned into something so much more. You just hoped that he saw you the same way

“And where exactly is your usual partner in crime Ms. Y/L/N?” Filch asked accusingly.

“Sorry sir, I’m not sure who you’re referring to,” you answered cheekily.

“Don’t play dumb girl, I know he’s around here somewhere.”

As Filch began to walk away, following Mrs. Norris who meowed as she sniffed along the corridor, you turned to see where Mattheo was hidden.

With the top of his head slowly peaking behind a pillar, he sent you a dazzling wink to which you rolled your eyes.

Nodding your head slightly you took a small step back, doing your best not to alert Filch and his snitch of a pet.

When you deemed it to be the right timed you turned quickly on your heel and sprinted down the corridor, opposite of where Filch was headed.

Mattheo caught up in no time and sprinted alongside you as Mrs. Norris took off after the both of you.

Looking back, you gasped in shock to see her gaining speed and closing the distance.

Mattheo took your hand his and yanked you down another corridor, pulling you behind him as he navigated the way towards the dungeons.

As you stood in front of the large stone walls of the dungeon you dropped your hand from his, bracing them on your knees as you tried to catch your breath.

Mattheo assumed a similar state before standing largely.

“Pure-blood” he spoke.

The passage opened, and he extended his arm forward, motioning for you to enter first.

As you walked into the common room you couldn’t help but break into a fit of giggles.

“I can’t believe we got caught,” you exclaimed, a slight amusement in your voice as you plopped yourself down on the couch.

“Uh, I believe you got caught. Filch never saw me so it doesn’t count.”

“Hey!” you protested, throwing a pillow in his direction.

“It was your idea to sneak out after curfew because you wanted a snack from the kitchen."

“I stand by that decision,” he stated happily, popping the rest of the treacle tart into his mouth.

You gave him a stern look before breaking out into a large smile, he mirrored you with a similar one.

If only you knew, Mattheo thought to himself

If only you knew what your smile did to him.

Mattheo always saw you as a close friend.

Right, that’s what you were…a friend?

He wasn’t so sure anymore.

I mean sure, his friends teased him all the time about how he was in love with you, but that didn’t mean it was true.

He told you everything that he told Theodore and Lorenzo.

But he didn’t think about kissing them like he thought about kissing you.

There had been so many times over the last few months where he felt like he should just reach for you and do it, but he never did.

He didn’t know if you felt the same way, and he refused to ruin the friendship because he had a crush on you.

That’s right.

That’s all it was…

A crush.

“I’m going to head up to bed, I’ll—" you started.

“Yeah, it’s getting late” Mattheo spoke up.

“I’ll see you in the morning,” you finished, standing up from the couch at the same time Mattheo did.

Walking towards the stairs your arm bumped against his, you looked up at him delicately.

“Good night, Y/N” he spoke softly.

"Good night, Mattheo,” you returned.

As you lay in bed you couldn’t help but think about how deep you were falling into him.

You wish that you could just throw all caution to the wind and just tell Mattheo how you feel.

You found yourself always lowering your guard around him. You weren’t sure if you were just being reckless or if it was actually more.

There were times where it felt like more, like someone was going to make the first move.

Until then, you would wait patiently. For some reason, you believe that being with Mattheo, truly being with him would be even better than you imagined.
