Hello! Just want to say again that I'm glad I found your blog, your down-to-earth commentary, especially about the business side of it all, is very much appreciated :)

Hi. Thank you for letting me know, I'm glad you find some more down to earth posts useful. In part, I run this blog to offer an alternative in fandom experience.

Thing is, we, as k-pop fans and as people who don't work in showbusiness or South Korea, don't have enough knowledge, experience or inside information to have a strong educated opinion on most of things when it comes to idol companies and their executives. We can have opinions as customers - I like this music, this promotional strategy works on me, these outfits are ugly, this concept rocks -, but not as business analytics. Especially considering how much media play, false information and difference in cultures we face.

However, nowadays everyone has the illusion that they know better, that their opinion and feelings are valid when it comes to any topic. And spread and defend their opinion like it is the ultimate truth.

I've recently come across a twit starting with "it appears that" and ending with "for sure". In a span of a few sentences the fan offered an imaginary scenario and finished with a "this is truth". Of course to "prove" that SM is evil, heh. Such baseless statements easily play on fans' love for their biases, evoke an emotional response, call to arms, they give an answer to "Who is to blame?!", provide a target for unleashing frustration and anger.

When one solo-stan blames our bias, we can call bullshit because we know how things really are. When a fan blames Chris Lee or SM, other fans are ready to accept the words as believeable. Either because they share the sentiment, or have no own opinion on the matter, so any will do. If everyone around says the same thing, it should be true, afterall? That's how our brains are wired: follow the majority, agree with the tribe, mirror everyone's current emotion.

We can't see the inner works and we don't know the inner rules, but we can see the results of labour and sometimes a reflection of things.

When I came to k-pop, I knew SM as the company that overworks its artists, has lawsuits with them, is super strict. Broken in two halves TVXQ and EXO with half of its members gone weren't a good representation. So when I started to get to know NCT better, I started to wonder if I was lied to or that something had changed in SM (the latter). Neos were taught how to songwrite, SM persisted with good quality music for NCT despite the group not taking off right away, artists not looking slavelike, there was SMstation and interesting projects.

Sure, I can observe bad work: poorly prepared concerts (Link), constant failures with album production (omitting Doyoung's name, boring designs for 127), tasteless stylists, etc. However, I also see good work: artists flying first/business class and living in 5 star hotels, being given opportunity to go to the beach, museums, to enjoy sightseeing in new countries; opportunity to explore one's creativity (soundcloud, NCTLabs, solo performances for Link); SM giving artists second professions (MC, variety host, model) that will aid professional longevity (Doyoung hasn't finished school and doesn't have a degree, but I'm not worried for him, even if SM collapses, he'll always find a job. Same for Taeyong, he came as a blank page, now he is a songwriter and a producer, he can even become a choreographer); neos progressively being given more choice and say, their opinion being consulted and their ideas being implemented once they gain enough experience (Golden Dust story, Taeyong making his own setlist for his concert, Doyoung saying Unity should not have solo-stages, Ten choosing the mood and genre for his solo, etc).

Most importantly, I can see many friendships between neos and producers/managers, and that Haechan and Doyoung, who experienced all of SM's downsides personally and not once, continue to like the company. Meaning, the good should outweight the bad. At least for now.

Fans learnt the name of Chris Lee and continue to blame him for everything to this day, although he doesn't own any shares in SM and has stopped being a CEO a year ago. He is a token scapegoat.

Should I blindly trust fans or should I go read Wikipedia, interviews and listen to the guy himself? In situations like these I always choose the latter.

Sure, I can't tell if he evades taxes or participates in shady business, and what neos think of him (aside from Doyoung calling him "hyung" in public and not being afraid of getting punished for it), but I can see he was the person who overlooked all the early NCT songs (we have "Limitless", "Cherry bomb" thanks to him); created SMStation and SMClassics (say thank you for "Try again", "Star blossom"); found Dem Jointz ("Kick it", "Punch", "Sticker") and multiple other songwriters who now work for SM; brought to Korea the idea of songwriting camps, in which Kun participates nowadays and where he befriends foreign creators; invested SM money into a publishing company (and not a winery or a hotel business), which means SM artists will be secured to have a lot of songs to choose from in the future, and Korean young producers will have access to the global market. He has been with SM close to 20 years, and he is evidently a music nerd, ergo he understands artists and their love for music. So why should I hate him? I have no proof of him taking money away from neos, but I have evidence he was very essential to formation of NCT and the quality of SM sound being maintained. On the contrary, I'm inclined to suspect the quality of albums (song setlist, production) is raising again because he is back to supervising A&R in SM.

thought/fic dump time!!

Vlog mc is a famous YouTuber with millions of subscribers. She makes videos about her navigating life as a woman with autism. She gained traction with her educational videos, but her real draw was her fun personality and care for her fans. Her videos are flooded with comments from fans who appreciate her honesty and representation.

Some of her biggest fans are BTS. The boys love her videos, personality, and everything they've seen about her. They didn't mean to love her, but it's hard not to. After one of their concerts, she updated, and they daydreamed that it was a gift for them. They replayed the video over and over as artists scrubbed away their makeup, sets were broken down, and they were finally shuttled back to their hotel room, where they watched the video "just one more time."

MC posts a video titled "How I get through a meltdown." and it sends the boys into a tizzy. Not just because they're worried about their poor girl being overstimulated, or because she looks so cute as she explains her coping mechanism, but because when she says she uses music to drown out uncomfortable noises, she turns her phone around to show one of their albums.

Her next video is one of their all-time favorites. "Ranking my Top 50 Dinosaurs." MC goes on an hour-long presentation of her favorite dinosaurs and why, stimming and ranting so cutely that they can feel the hearts in their eyes. They spend the rest of the night watching stimming compilations made by other fans and raving on Stan twitter with alt accounts.

When MC finally sets up a PO box for fanmail, they fill it to the brim with gifts. Jimin makes a sweater for mc, with a stegosaurus hand sewn to the front. When he sees her wearing it in her next video, he can't decide between crying in joy or cumming in his pants. Jungkook sends her a hand-painted card, with a note telling her about his love and gratefulness for her. (purposefully messing up his handwriting) When MC gets teary-eyed on live from reading it, he screenshots and prints it out to hang in his room. (and cries too, but he'll never admit it.)

After so long of this, the gifts and videos aren't enough. They need to meet her. But how can they do that? She may be well-known, but she's nowhere near their status. Maybe, they think, they can get her into a function. They ask for an extra invite to an awards show and inconspicuously send it to their pretty girl's PO box, along with a dress they know she'll love. All those hours of studying her favorite colors, body shape, and safe textures pay off as they watch her gush over the pretty dress through her videos.

Finally, after years of watching her through a screen, they see her. They're dressed in textures she'll want to touch, colors she'll stare at for a little too long, and done up so handsomely that it'll make her stutter and stim as they lean in just a little too close. They swear as she rocks back and forth, giggles at their jokes, and softly rubs the wrist of their suits that she'll be theirs. Forever.

As a result of what was published by @yano2519 , I began to answer him in his post but I did not want to kidnap him and I leave my thoughts here.

First of all, I'm sorry that you feel that way today @yano2519 although it was something expected at the time part of the book's content was made public because I think that, for most of us, it was not a surprise what could be expected... and also the result.

For some time now, anything that Sam or Cait do/state and/or publish will be dissected and adjusted to the feelings of the person who expresses their opinion depending on the side they are on and now it was not going to be any different.

And the most belligerent part of the fandom (stan, only and other fauna) will do anything to defend their position, insulting and shaming when there are no reasoned opinions or education...and by education I mean etiquette, which a blogger can have all the university degrees you want and be unpresentable and lacking in social grace when presenting your arguments.

In addition, we have social networks at full capacity, being the platform to spread the message that has been repeated over the years and that, although it hurts us, will not change: Shippers are the devil, crazy, intrusive... .and all the qualifiers you can think of.

What that part of the fandom does not say, or does not want to admit, is that, in a way, they feel insecure because we always find loopholes and inconsistencies over the years that have not been able to be solved. The argument that there is an MC is enough for them when it is only a paper contract and the public image is anything but romantic or showing "normal" daily life.

The actors are still under contract and this will not change for a long time. Sam is very private and what we read in his book is nothing other than what he wants people to see and read but it is not his real life, just the image he wants to show. Single, affected by the absence of his father and with a phobia of commitment.

Curious that this last point did not appear until his image began to be affected by those "quick dates" (here put the corresponding initials, MM, KA, MC, ...) on the other side of the ocean. His team thought it was a better idea (promoted by anon conveniently sent to the tray of certain bloggers) whit having him a permanent "girlfriend" to prove that he was not with Cait, after how it affected him physically and mentally (those of us who have been here too long time we saw it live). But, as we say in my country, the remedy was worse than the disease, fostering the image of a frivolous man, with girls who could be his daughters, made part of a very traditional fandom leave disappointed, in addition to fostering an image of macho which, as we have seen these days in the presentation of the book, makes some "fans" take too many liberties.

The irony of all this is that the very people who hate Sam are publising and buying his book.

Anyway, this is not over and we still have a lot to see.

Anyway, finally after a couple of years of waiting I got to do the Christmas SQ at Hogwarts 😍 I ALWAYS WANTED TO DO IT and what a WONDERFUL SQ.

SQ from the first years, I missed Rowan, I also knew that he is present in this new SQ.

Everyone is still a baby, I even put the hair I put on my MC back in the beginning hahaha

And of course, I FINALLY GAVE THE CUTE MUSIC BOOK TO MERULA. So sweet 🥺 there's no cuter scene than this (here's a merula stan profile, my condolences, it turns into a lot from now on)

She calling him an idiot when he went to give the present 🤣, I laughed a lot, tsundere attacks.

The MC ignores the curse and asks her to open it soon, with a beautiful smile. She opens it and says thank you with another pretty little smile.

MC (from Jam City) sometimes doesn't mind Merula's prickly ways, just because he's used to it and knows that's her way. No wonder, in the current chapters, she feels more comfortable opening up to him, because she knows that he will possibly understand her.

Then she teaches him snow spell.

And we have one more episode of dramatic scenes with Merula and MC ❤️ this "camera" going up 🤣

A very beautiful scene, but also a very sad one. We know how lonely Merula feels, even to this day, and that sometimes she herself chooses solitude. But we also know that loneliness doesn't like it. I always remember her telling the MC at SQ Natal with the Weasleys that she panicked when she saw that he would spend Christmas away from her (the shippers died that day) 🤣

I also find it interesting when she tells that the snow making spell was the only spell her parents taught her that "didn't hurt anyone". We all know that Merula had a golden education 😅

I freaked out over the MC talking to her that he WANTED her to be at the Christmas feast WITH HIM. MC, our good idiot for Merula always. I love it (but sometimes I hate it too)

Our dear Merula says that she is not going to the banquet, making a dramatic speech.

But look, she appears, contradicting her speech. I wonder why? 😏 And on top of that she says "don't embarrass me" when will he cast the spell she taught him (love this)

When these things happen, I always remember the story Dumbledore tells to explain Merula's behavior to the MC at SQ Natal with the Weasleys, after she stole a part from Arthur's car. He says at the end of the story:

Our words and actions sometimes contradict our true desires.

I don't think there's anything that explains Merula so well. And I think that being aware of this condition in the next chapters of the story is essential.

Some may think this is Merula's stupidity, but the point is, IT IS REALLY STUPID 🤣 precisely because this behavior is typical of someone emotionally stupid. And Merula is emotionally dumb. I imagine very clearly that Merula must have received an upbringing that influenced her to ignore her feelings as they bring "weakness" 🤡. Not to mention that she herself is very proud, even because of her choleric temperament.

Anyway guys, I hate JC as much as you do, but I love how she works on Merula's more sensitive side in this Christmas SQ. And also at SQ Natal with the Weasleys. And sorry, this turned a super post 🤣

Merry Christmas, stay with Merula savoring Molly's Yorkshire pudding, who, by the way, was always very cute and welcoming with Merula, even in this Christmas SQ at Hogwarts, Molly takes care of feeding her at the feast 🤣

when you Knew TM they were your bias LMAO the way u literally watched my realization in real time... okay but i don't actually remember what exactly cemented my coffin. i started noticing his rarer soft / calm / cute moods (instead of his obnoxious parodies of aegyo) and that he just happens to be good at everything. OH I REMEMBER NOW. When I first joined Tumblr/this fandom a few months ago, I ignorantly thought that I could love on Nesta and the Valkyries since they're my favorite characters in ACOTAR.

But, thank you to the Feysand stans for showing me how wrong I was. I can't love Nesta and the Valkyries too much because it gives them "too much power" and "Feysand are the true MC's".

Wow. My bad. I was under the impression that this fandom operated like any other, where I could stan whatever characters I wanted. I didn't realize the number one rule of this fandom is that you can't love any characters more than Feysand. Which sucks because I hate Feysand.

Where would we be without Feysand stans reminding this fandom every single day that Feysand ArE tHe TrUe Mc'S? Since I hated them in canon, I guess I'll have to start looking through the Feysand tags so I can re-educate myself and see the light.

This is where you come in and beat the enemy for him

He may get angrier, thinking you are underestimating him

But, for the sake of the person he loves, he calms down knowing you didn’t mean to offend him

A small part in the back of his head also admires you for being able to handle the fight a ton better than he did

Congratulations, you just earned yourself the great Satan’s respect (resident evil-wise).

the li's and a non-binary mc:

important: i want to make an observation, because otherwise the way i explained things might not come across the right way. some people are alive in this world and have no idea that non binary identity is a thing. so if you're really used to it, sometimes you might forget that others have no idea about most things you know, so keep that in mind.

*cuts to me explaining it to my grandmother and seeing her face getting the most confused i've ever witnessed*

so i need to take some of the islanders under consideration about the possibility of not knowing anything about it as well. i'm generalizing some of them because well... it's all i can do. we don't have the canon information so i have to assume based off the things and the way they say certain things. alright, back to the post.

i can see this going a few ways, because not all of them are even familiar with gender and what it means, like gary, hannah, marisol, rahim, and bobby. they come from a traditional place and might not even know that non-binary is part of gender and identity.

priya comes from an indian background (remember the nod to the 'uncle' culture she talks about with arjun?) and the vedas touch on the existence of non binary individuals (according to my research but i could be very wrong). she might understand it but not have vivence with enby people on daily life, so it might be new to her. but that's assuming priya is hindu and that we don't know for sure. either way i think she would take a while to understand and actually comprehend what being non binary means, because it's not a part of her daily basis.

marisol to me is a wild card. on one hand, hispanic family (maybe? since they called her a spanish girl, so she's at least hispanic and we can't confirm if she was born in spain or not), i can say for sure it feels like the concept is almost lost to older families. my father is spanish (born and raised in barcelona) and he had a hard time comprehending when i told him i'm genderfluid. he wasn't closed up to it but it was HARD to take the male/female formula out of his brain. marisol might've never come in contact with enby people before because of how she moves every day, and where she goes. everything about her seems very traditional, her fashion sense, her hair, her choice of occupation, even the way she speaks... on the other hand she seems very interested in psychology and might know stuff about gender. I DON'T KNOW, OK? like i said, she's a wild card.

the others might still think gender and sex are the same thing. once they learn what it means they might struggle with remembering mc's pronouns are not she/her, but that's because of their upbringing.

it's not that they don't accept, it's just the idea of binary identity being so intrinsec it takes a while to truly get there, but i think they wouldn't object dating someone who's enby.

henrik, noah, lucas, carl and kassam understand gender. they know it's completely separated from sex.

henrik might be non binary too (an anon brought it up and i think it's almost canon for all of us, henrik stans). and you know, as he said, he was looking for a connection. not a girl or a woman, a connection.

kassam is in music and he travels all the time while on tour. he comes in contact with a lot of people and he must've met several artists who are non binary. it's not unknown to him.

carl i think understands gender because of sci-fi. it's kind of an ethereal concept when i say it like this, but that's how i understood what non binary means when i was much younger, and it was easy to know when people told me they were enby. since carl grew up on the same culture i believe that's how he learned and it's not unknown to him.

lucas was left alone in school, and given the way he talks i can only assume he's educated on several subjects, including this one. we have no clues in the game but he seems to not only be intelligent academically speaking but also humanitarianly. working in his area, with athletes, must be a good doorway to learn more.

noah. he reads a lot, and absorbs what he reads. no doubt in my mind that he's very familiar and doesn't care if someone is non binary. there's not much to say here, he just gets it.

lottie. she works in the beauty industry, so there's no way she doesn't know, understand or accept it. i reckon she might be in more contact with enby's than any other person in this list. and she doesn't give a flying fuck about gender i don't think.

It is on Gojo to come save her and to make her happy, that’s something she has to do on her own but even before the mc came along, she wasn’t caring about wanting to make her life better. She wasn’t saving money, she wants trying to further her career or education. S*ra wanted to rely solely on a man to come in and captain save-a-hoe her ass and it back fired in the worse way. I have no doubt that S*ra did love Gojo at one point but it stopped being about what they can do together vs what he can do for her and that’s not cute bestie

Anyways, Gen is cooking something deadly, Gojo is actually not fucking up, the mc needs to lay down, step-mom is about five seconds away from stabbing someone, and Toji still hasn’t let me sit on his face this is a complete mess!!

Also, Naz and Night are so great at educating people about issues facing the genderfluid and transsexual community. I’ve actually learnt a lot from them (both of them) and I’m really grateful for that.

Idiots ( SATAN X GN!READER )

You were… more than worried as you walked to your parents house for barbeque. You told Satan that his name would be Stan today and he less than agreed to that, heavily offended that you’d change his name to appease your parents, “that’s stupid, (Y/N). It’s my name. I can’t change it.” He’s sulking beside you right now, his hands in his pockets as he begrudgingly walks with you. In all honesty, he could care less about your parents and what they thought of him; he only needed you to like him and be around him, so why do your parents even matter? “Please, Satan. Just… you know it’s important to me.” You gave him your best pout, clinging onto his arm, and he groaned in response, refusing to look at you. You definitely could bend him to your will and he hated admitting how absolutely smitten he was for you, although he could just as easily bend you.

“Fine. One day. I’m not being Stan forever.” Your lips met his cheek, causing him to blush softly, “that’s all I ask. My mom will love you by default because you look like a nerd and she likes smart guys.” A scowl appears on his face as he looks down at you with furrowed brows and wide eyes, “I look like a nerd? What even a---!” “Mom!” He grumbled at being cut off, watching you run up to your mother as he followed, putting his best smug face on; might as well make your life a little harder for calling him Stan, “wow, (Y/N). I finally know where you got your good looks from. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. (L/N).” Your mother’s eyes immediately landed on him and she couldn’t even attempt to hide the girly giggle that left her lips as she took Satan’s hand, “oh my, aren’t you quite the charmer, and so handsome.” Satan chuckled, kissing your mother’s hand before letting go. You rolled your eyes, nudging him, but he only gave you a shrug and a ‘I-don’t-know-what-you-want-from-me’ look.

“Mom.” you raised an eyebrow, motioning at the open door and then the two of them. Satan held out his arm, watching your mother hold onto it as he walked past you into the house, shooting you a knowing smirk. “Why does he have to make things so difficult…” You shook your head, silently following him and already seeing him in a man-hug with your dad, making you groan out loud. “Well, Stan, you seem like a great guy!” You glared daggers at Satan right now, but your mom nudged you, “be nice, (Y/N). It’s our job to make him feel welcome in our home.” You mocked your mom’s words silently, knowing that Satan was doing this to be petty over being called Stan.

“Well, Stan, I hope it’s alright. We didn’t know what you liked, so we just went ahead and ordered Pizza. Cheese and pepperoni, I hope that’s okay?” Satan smiled, almost too nicely as he sat down at the table, nodding, “of course. Anything to make your lives easier.” You growled at Satan, sitting beside him and feeling him put a hand on your leg, leaning in to whisper, “you seem a little tense, are you okay?” You brushed his hand off and glared out, making your dad frown, “why are you so upset? Please, treat Stan a little better. Poor guy must be nervous meeting his future family.” Satan swallowed thickly, being taken slightly off guard at your father’s words of choice, but he recovers, “I think they’re just a little nervous about how you’ll… perceive me.” His hand was back on your leg, a smug smile on his lips. “Hm.. that makes sense, but I assure you (Y/N), we like him a lot so far.” You practically growled, about to say something when your father interrupted, “So! Tell me, what do you do for fun?”

“Oh you wouldn’t like it,” this time, you spoke up, “he’s pretty boring, you know. He reads books and plays with cats and stuff. Sometimes, when he deems he has enough time, he makes everyone’s life a living hell, too.” Your mother gasps, slapping your hand softly, “do not speak like that, (Y/N). “ She shakes her head, almost disappointed in you, but really, you just got fed up with Satan playing victim and being an ass about one little thing. “It’s nice that you want to broaden your horizons, dear. I myself am a pretty heavy reader too. I love books of all sorts.” Satan smiled in return, “I’m glad my future family is just as involved in further educating one’s self as I am.” You bit your lip, trying hard not to do anything to show your anger right now; he was just being extra at this point. One, two jokes, sure, but this has gone on for far too long. “Hm. A smart man like you, I’m sure you’ve read the scriptures as well?”

Before Satan could answer, you slammed your hands on the table and stood up, “Stop! He’s read literally every book in existence at this point, you know why? Because he’s an old fart!” Satan snorted, trying to keep himself from laughing at your outburst as he looks up at you, a twinkle of something in his eyes. Your father glared at you, standing up too, “(Y/N) (L/N). You sit your ass back down right this instant and respect Stan a little bit.” You scoffed, almost laughing, “Stan? His name is Satan. S A T A N.” You spelled it out for them, with your hands too just to get it through their skull. This time your mother stood up, glaring daggers at you, “You will NOT speak of the devil in my house and you CERTAINLY will not use it against our guest.”

Satan couldn’t help it anymore, and he actually tumbles over laughing, having way too much fun, “Stan?” He shook his head, slowly rising himself, “The funny thing about this is, they’re telling the truth. My name is Satan, I am not the Devil, and it’s quite agitating how you humans seem to keep mixing us up.” His laughter drops, a stern, annoyed face taking its place instead, “The funnier thing is that you believe I will let you talk to your child like that when they’re the only rational being I can see in this room.” His form changed, leaning over to scare your parents with a ‘boo’ and raised hands as horns and a tail took their shape on his body.

Your mother jumped back, your father standing in front of her protectively while Satan glared daggers at them. He picked you up, cutting the meeting with your parents very short, not caring about your squirming and beating on his chest to let you back down, “it’s pathetic low lives like you that make me agree with Belphegor’s idea of blowing this place up more day by day. “ He walked out right as the pizza delivery guy showed up, scaring the living daylights out of him too and abruptly taking the pizzas, “What are you looking at, huh?!” He scoffed, shaking his head and continuing to walk, looking down at you.

“I don’t care if you’re mad at me right now, because I am heavily turned on from your little outburst, so I’m taking these pizzas and what’s rightfully mine, and bang you against the nearest bookshelf in my room to remind you of whose name you should be screaming and spelling out once more. “
