Diabetes Pt. 2
Notes: England wins the world cup final in this fic. Also Beth and Leah's ACL injuries never happened.
Warnings: Diabetes, Low Blood Sugar (not bad but like continuous), other things related.
Tumblr media
It was match day -1 to the world cup final, and you were sitting in your team meeting next to Beth, when you started to feel funny, you tested and sure enough you were low, so you pulled out some lollies, Beth noticed your actions and she placed a hand on your knee and lightly squeezed it, to reassure you, knowing you would not be happy about this happening now. Another 15 minutes later you tested again and pulled out another set of lollies, and 15 minutes after that you did the same thing. Beth flashed a concerned look at you, she was worried, and confused, you were sitting down you weren't exercising, and by the way you were now leaning against her side and your leg felt slightly sticky to touch your levels had definitely not improved, you were annoyed, it was the final tomorrow and Sarina had told you she wanted to start you, the first time you would start, and it was the world cup final, but now it was looking like that wouldn’t happen because as if she would start you if you had to miss training today, especially due to a medical reason.
-
You were on the sidelines watching training, hoping your levels would go up soon, so you could join the team, the girls had been given a water break and so Beth came to sit down next to you, to talk to you. “They just won't go up,” you said as tears welled in your eyes, you had been low for quite some time now, Hospital was considered but deemed not necessary as your levels were not majorly low, it was just that they weren't going up. You hated it, your body was shaky, you were tired and you felt sick.
“I really want to play,” you sadly said looking at Beth, “I know baby, it’s okay, I think you’re just anxious and that isn’t helping, but it's weird they aren't going up.” She replied softly as she pulled you in for a hug, you shuffled so you were sitting between her legs, resting back against her as she was leaning against the wall behind her. “Can you stay with me?” you had kind of trapped her but you still had to ask. “Of course she can,” Sarina said as she was now standing in front of you both, “You can stay with her Beth, if you want of course, today is a short training anyway” “I’ll stay with her,” Beth replied, she didn’t care if this mean she had to give up her spot in the starting 11 for the World Cup Final, she just wanted to try and give you some control on a day you had no control knowing how you got annoyed when you were doing everything right but it just wasn't working. Your body was winning today and it was clearly starting to really get to you and upset you,
“I want you both at team time after lunch though, it's not active, it's just sitting down and talking, we will have one of the medics there,” Sarina told you both, and you both nodded before she started walking away.
_____
You were now in “team time” as Sarina called it, you were sitting on Beth’s lap as Sarina explained what was happening today. She was answering Tooneys dumb question when Beth whispered into your ear after just seeing what the notification on her watch was “Why is your pod alerting that it has no insulin in it? It shouldn’t-” “You’re kidding me right, can you take it off?” you asked her quietly “you sure?” you just nodded, frustrated no one had thought of this earlier but to be fair, how would anyone have known. “It’s probably faulted and been leaking slightly all day but because I’ve been having carbs every 15 minutes or less there wasn't a big enough change to notice.” She just nodded as she carefully took it off, to no surprise your levels started to even out again, albeit slowly, and since you had been low all day you were incredibly tired and had a headache, so after team time and taking some paracetamol and having a small snack you were out for the count the rest of the afternoon. You were woken up for dinner which you ate in your half asleep state before going back to sleep.
_____
Sure enough you were not starting, but it made sense and you couldn’t be mad at anyone. You sat on the sidelines, watching as both teams fought for dominance, it was even at nil all until Olga scored in the 40th minute putting Spain up by one. You sat in the locker room at half time, a feeling of defeat hung in the air, but Sarina and Leah were quick to turn that around.
“Can you play? I’m not sure when I want to put you on but can you play?” Sarina asked as you walked back out of the tunnel and headed to the bench ready for the second half, “yeah, I’m fine,” “okay good, can you put a second sensor on?” you nodded, grabbing the ‘emergency sensor kit’ you always had on the bench whether you were playing or not, it was there in case you needed to change your sensor mid game, but today it was being used as a second sensor. You were stood up putting the sensor on your thigh when one of the medics came up and started to unwrap the tape around your pod arm, you looked at her, “we’re taking your pod off, we’ve got pens set up and ready, we don’t want to risk it, especially with what happened yesterday. We’ve also got another pod ready for when you come off,” you just nodded and continued to set up the second dexcom, you received more than the average amount of pods a month from the NHS due to the fact your played football professionally and they knew it meant you would need more pod changes, but Arsenal was also always prepared to pay for more if they needed to, so the fact you had a pod on for just over 12 hours and you were taking it off wasn't a concern for you thankfully.
You were subbed on as a double sub in the 80th minute you were coming on for Ella Toone, and Alex Greenwood was coming on to replace Jess Carter. Spain was still ahead and it was clear England was struggling in their fight for dominance but with the addition of you and Alex the game became a new battle. In the 87th minute, you had a chance, most people would’ve just kicked it in, there was a change it could’ve gone in, you looked around and Alessia was unmarked, and you had a direct path to pass it to her and she could so easily tap it in, Alessia could see what you were thinking and gave you a subtle thumbs up, you looked straight at the goal whilst you passed to Alessia she kicked it and it found the back of the net, the Spanish players were bewildered, you were ecstatic as you ran to Alessia. After the addition extra time the scores were still even, so it came time to Penalties, you were lined up as the 6th penalty taker, meaning there wasn't a high chance you would be taking a penalty, but it also meant it could all come down to you, it was tactical though, you had never taken a penalty in a high pressure situation before, nothing had been close, so even though you were good in training it was a risk, however at the same time no one could study your penalties meaning you were a wild card, no statistics would be backing the choices of Cata, she would be going purely off gut instinct. All 5 penalties for both teams somehow were even, Spain scored so did England, if Spain scored neither did England. So came the sudden death rounds, Mary saved Spain’s 6th penalty, meaning it all came down to you, you could win this for the lionesses. You stepped up to the ball, and focused in, taking a deep breath, your surroundings blurred as you had one focus, getting the ball past Cata, you shifted your weight onto your back foot before you took your 4 strides to the ball, which went flying at hit the top right corner of the back of the net. You had just won the World Cup for the lionesses, you sprinted to your teammates as they ran to you, everyone jumping on top of each other in disbelief, you had just beaten Spain, one of the best teams in the world.

Hello! I just discovered your page and I love your writing style.
I had this idea in my head for while now.
You know how Dabi went and visit Hawks’ mom for information about him? Well, what if he had a lovable little sister who was clueless about who Dabi is. She thought “oh, he is friends with my big brother there is no harm talking with him.”
Dabi flirts with her a good bit and Hawks comes home like “get away from my cute little sister!” But he does it around about way.

PART 2 // PART 3// THE COMPLETE MASTERLIST divider by @cafekitsune
ෆ Pairing: DABI X HAWKS’ LITTLE SISTER
ෆ cw: Dabi being a flirt and a pervert, corruption kink, smut and dubcon in the next chapters so this one is mostly safe.
ෆ Before you read further: this is written entirely on Dabi’s POV. There are specific descriptions for Hawks’ sister such as hair color, eye color, skin, wings etc. and she is a female, age 20-21.
ෆ A/N: I love this request so much, it had my writing flowing so naturally and my motivation reached the sky. I hope you like this!
Tumblr media
Another boring day of relentlessly hunting down for information. Walking in the empty alleyway, the weather’s getting bitter, clouds darkening the sky as rain is starting to fall, plinking against my black leather jacket. Man, I fucking hate rain. Feels uncomfortable on my skin, not to mention it weakens my quirk. But I have to finish this job. Once I start something today, I never leave it for tomorrow, cause we never know what tomorrow could bring. Unexpected things are not my forte, I prefer to plan my steps way ahead, I look closely at every clue and untangle any information that I see beneficial. Always one step ahead of my enemies, nothing goes away without catching my eye. No matter how small it is.
No matter how fast it is.
Yes, Hawks, the fastest hero out there, too fast for his own good. I chuckle under my breath, rolling my eyes at the thought of the traitorous pro hero. He’s been pretty useful so far, proven himself loyal to the cause. But something doesn’t sit right with me, hence the reason why I’m out there searchin’ for more information. Maybe it’s his sickening hero charm, makes me wanna vomit. Maybe it’s the fake smile he puts on that stupid face, who knows.. a traitor will always be a traitor. If he went as far as to betray the heroes, I won’t be surprised if he turns his back on us villains again.
Though if that happens, he will be incinerated before he even knows it. Burnt to ashes, those red feathers set ablaze by my own scorching flames. My hand itches at the thought of showing him his place, though I gotta stick with the plan and use him for all his worth.
Bzzz.
The sound of my burner phone grabs my attention. Probably one of my men who I’ve sent to stalk and watch over Hawks. Or maybe Twice, wanting to fuck around because he is lonely. Tch, I’m not in the mood either way.
“This better be important..” I rasp under my breath. Lately my patience’s been thin. Don’t know why.
“Sir, we have found something”
It was indeed one of the men I hired. Yeah, about time they finally made themselves useful. I hum in response, letting the man continue.
“The woman we found, she might be related to Hawks. According to the clues we’ve been gathering, it’s highly possible she could be his mother. If not his mother, then for sure someone from his family. We have found her address, all we need is your order so we can break in and get her for you, sir” the man explained.
“Mm there’s no need. I’ll pay the lady a visit myself” I smirk, knowing that she will be more intimidated by my grotesque sight only and start spilling everything. After the men give me her address, I waste no time to go there. Fortunately not too far from where I am right now.
Something weird forms in my chest. Not sure why, but I feel like I’m gonna have fun~
******
The picture I got sent was of a woman who seemed to be in her 40s, pale skin and exhausted eyes, big fluffy light brown hair, almost drained out of life. This is beyond weird, the mother of a pro hero who looked like she had lost her will to live? Ain’t no way. Supposedly the families of pro heroes usually live their best life.
A thought runs through my head and I chuckle. Damn, I should know by now, the families of pro heroes are those who in fact suffer the most.
Memorising the woman’s face and the address, I am now right in front of her house. It’s a small normal house, nothing fancy or special about it whatsoever. The rain has long stopped. I stop in front of her door, before giving it a few slow knocks. Nobody opens the door. I knock once again, if this door isn’t opened soon I’m gonna have to-
“Coming!! Just a second!!” A chirpy voice was heard, footsteps getting faster towards the door. This voice sounded lively, not the voice I could’ve imagined for the woman I’m looking for.
As the door opened, the sight in front of me leaves me speechless. My eyes widen a bit, taking in at person in front of me.
It’s a girl. Not the old woman in picture, this is a young pretty thing. Could be at her twenties, not sure. As she opens the door wider, she fixes her disheveled hair, removing those golden locks off her face while her caramel eyes fixed on mine, blinking in confusion with those pretty lashes. And her pjs, almost too revealing. Freckles cover her cheeks, her skin looks soft. It doesn’t take long for me to notice a pair of angelic white wings behind her.
“Umm hello, how can I help you with?” she asks, her voice meek and shy as she looks up at me under her lashes.
Fuck, it’s like the whole world stopped the moment I laid eyes her pretty face. I need to focus.
“Sorry for the bother, dollface” I manage to bring a friendly smile on my face but my raspy voice always betrays me. “I am looking for Hawks. I’m a friend of his..”
“Oh, Hawks? I’m sorry but my brother is not here at the moment. Maybe he is at his agency, did you check there?” she smiles back.
Before I find myself wondering why she is not scared by my appearance, my mind focuses on that one simple word: brother. She called Hawks her brother, so that means..
“Wait, don’t tell me that guy kept such a pretty thing like you hidden from me? You’re his sister?” I smirk, leaning on the doorstep, still stunned by the fact that the pro hero had a little sister.
“O-Oh yeah, I’m Takami Y/N!” she blushes, and my smirk grows wider knowing that such simple interaction already got me half of the information. That Hawks has a sister, and his last name is Takami.
“He doesn’t prefer to talk much about us in public” she continues. “It’s best for our safety”
Poor naive little thing. Got no clue in the world who I am, thinking I’m a friend. Is this how the hero looks over his family?
“Well well, that guy is full of surprises. You look a lot like him to be honest, that pretty hair of yours and those wings. A real angel aren’t cha?”
Her face is a blushing mess, all she can do is squirm in front of me and smile awkwardly. I came here for other purposes but damn it.. this pretty angel got me fucking hooked already. So petite, so innocent, a ray of sunshine, if I touch her with my destructive bloody hands I could probably defile her.
This thought gives me a sick twisted feeling in my chest, my eyes flaring in excitement.
“I-If you’d like I can invite you over for some tea? I can call my brother to come in the meantime. It’s only me and my mom here” she shyly says, breaking eye contact. I may be delusional, I am not the most handsome motherfucker out there I know, but she is acting like she saw her school crush. But I have to admit, I do have a sort of charm too. Call it villain charm if you will.
“Sure thing”. Making it easier for me princess, but also harder to focus on my main goal when you’re such beautiful distraction.
As my eyes wander around the living room, she hurries to the kitchen to prepare the tea. Enough time for me to find the lady in question. Her room was not hard to find, she was sitting on her bed. Simply entering and closing the door, I reach to her fast, putting a hand on her mouth.
“Don’t make a single sound or I will burn your sweet daughter to ashes” I threaten, showing her the blue flames flickering on my fingers. She nods, sweating and eyes widened in panic.
“Now..” I let her go while she stands there frozen in fear. “I’ll ask you some questions regarding to your son… and you’ll answer honestly. And trust me, I can tell when someone’s lying, so do not test me woman” I say sternly, all she does is whimper.
****
“Hey I thought you left?”
I find the pretty angel sitting on the couch, a confused look on her face.
“Ah m’sorry doll, had to use the bathroom. Also had a little chat with your mother, been a long time since I last saw her..”
It takes a lot for me to not burst into laughter, acting as if I’ve been Keigo’s childhood friend or something.
Keigo. Keigo Takami. This was his full name according to that woman. She didn’t hesitate to give me all the essential information, afraid I’d burn this place down and harm her precious daughter. Apparently that birdbrain’s been taken from the HSPC since a kid, trained to be a professional hero. And most importantly, his dad was a criminal, murdered someone back then.
Tch, the son of a criminal becoming a hero.
And the son of a hero becoming a criminal.
What a world.
I sit down on the couch, almost too close to his sister. My eyes hungrily take on the sight of her soft plush thighs, her chest, her plump lips.
“Tell me more about yourself dollface” I say, totally ignoring the tea and playing with some of her hair. “Y’gonna be a hero like your brother?”
“Ah none of the sort. I’d rather not get myself into heroic stuff” she giggles, and that sound has my jeans tighten uncomfortably. It’s taking everything in me to not pounce on her right here right now, stripping her off everything and making her scream for me. Just imagine the sight her brother would come across to if he suddenly shows up, her little sister all naked and bruised, used for my own sick pleasure..
Such an angelic being, I have the need to fucking break her and shape her however I see fit. A man like me could never be deserving of her.
“You don’t want to be a hero? How come? Wouldn’t you like to save people, princess? To fight against big scary villains who threaten the innocent out there..”
“I don’t think that’s a job for me. I can still help people without being a hero. And I don’t think I’d be strong or brave enough to go against villains, you know?” she says, playing with the hem of her shirt.
“Awn, poor thing, y’scared from villains?” I grin, placing my scarred hand on her knee, feeling her smooth skin. She squirms, probably by the warmth of it. The way she bites her lower lip nervously has my cock throbbing in my pants. Little does she know she’s in the presence of one of the most dangerous villains in Japan.
“Y’think they gonna hurt you? Maybe they will, if they see you so cute and vulnerable out there, they won’t hesitate to hunt ya down”. My firm grip on her knee has her swallowing, nodding silently.
“So I hope your brother protects you enough” I chuckle. “Cause see, if I was a villain? Man, I’d do anything to kidnap you and make you mine”
Her eyes widen, she laughs nervously, thinking this was some joke. Far from it.
“But you’re no villain right? You’re just my brother’s friend?” she murmurs, feeling tense. Her body language is so easy to read.
“Yes baby, I’m only his friend. My appearance might creep ya out but I promise I’m safe”
She seems to calm down a little. Completely unaware of what I could be capable of.
“Your appearance is not creepy by the way” she says. “I’d say it’s more.. unique. In a good way. I’ve never seen someone who looks like you”
I raise my eyebrows. Her words have me taken aback. For the longest time all I’ve gotten were stares filled with fear or disgust, couldn’t blame them. But this was a new thing, I feel something strange in my chest at her comment. Fuck, I don’t like this. I can’t seem to find any good comeback now, not when she’s staring at me so longingly. I’d rather have her scared, calling me an ugly monster, rather than this.
“Cute little thing wants to get on my good side huh? Wanna charm me, get me hooked with those sweet words? Y’need to be careful~” I say teasingly, reaching to grab her chin and have her look at me. I stare at her caramel eyes, wondering how they’d look full of tears.
“N-No it’s just the truth, I’m not lying” she shakes her head. “If I found you scary I wouldn’t have let you come inside”
“Come inside?” I raise an eyebrow. “Y’need to be more specific..or this might get another meaning”
She looks confused, not getting it at first, but the moment she sees the perverse smile on my face, her cheeks flush in embarrassment.
“I-I didn’t mean it like that pervert! I meant come inside my house!”
I let out a laugh, probably the only genuine laugh I had after such a long time. God, she’s so cute and fun to mess with. Such gem that Hawks kept hidden from me. Well, not anymore.
After some time chatting with my angel, the door bursts open. I turn around, smirking at the familiar face.
“Look who decided to show up!” I stand up, opening my arms as if waiting to receive a hug from him. “The winged hero. I was looking for you. I had the pleasure of meeting your family, y’never told me you had a little sister? Such pretty thing you never mentioned her to anyone, I thought we were close friends Keigo..”
The expression on his face is entertaining, he looks beyond shocked. Probably didn’t expect for me to call him by his real name. Or when his sister comes after me, too close, a bright charming smile on her face.
“Welcome home! I invited Dabi inside to wait for you, couldn’t let him out in the pouring rain-”
“Y/N get back in your room. Now” The hero’s voice is stern, serious, and the poor girl’s smile fades off her face. His piercing gaze never leaving mine. I’m not intimidated at the slightest, it’s mostly amusing.
“But Kei-”
“Now” he repeats. As she prepares to turn around and leave, I reach to grab her hand, not letting her go.
“Very overprotective aren’t cha, big brother?” I smirk, bringing his sister closer to me, wrapping my hands around her waist. Hawks looks like he is ready to kill me, anger visible in his golden eyes now that I’m playing around with his little sister, probably his weakest spot that he tried to keep hidden from the world.
“Me and her already clicked. She’s very fun to have around, we chatted a lot when you weren’t here didn’t we angel?” I turn to her, all she does is blush and nod shyly. I tap my fingers around her small waist, making her squirm. It takes everything in me to not dig my fingers on that soft skin and leave bruises. Then I reach for her white wings, and apparently she is very sensitive there. The way those wings flutter and she tries to break free from my grip, whining for me to stop. And all of this in front of her brother.
“Very nice of you to treat my friend this way” Hawks says, seems like he already caught up what’s going on. He’s playing it cool, so I won’t hurt his family. “Dabi, could you come outside now? We have stuff to discuss.”
I do not protest further, there’ll be enough time to stay with my angel now that I already know where she lives and where she studies. My new little toy.
“See ya later, dollface” I pinch her cheek, before sliding my hand across her jawline. My thumb touching her lower lip slightly, and the softest gasp leaves her pretty mouth.
“Bye Dabi..” she whispers, almost hypnotised by my touch. My name rolling off her tongue is the sweetest melody my ears could ever hear.
Can’t wait to come back for you, sweetheart

Home Sweet Home
Tumblr media
Characters:
Eddie Diaz x Female!Reader
Summary:
The reader and Eddie are living in together with Christopher. You just got home and saw Eddie sleeping in the couch, waiting for you.
Nothing but fluff and sweet conversations
A/N:
I haven’t written anything in a while. Let’s see if I still have it lol!
It’s been a long day for you.
You finished a lot of works today and all you wanted is to crash into the bed and have the best sleep you can get before another long day tomorrow.
You went inside the house and upon opening the light, you saw Eddie lying on the couch, peacefully sleeping.
A smile immediately formed in your lips.
You put down your keys and your bag by the rocking chair and you approached your sleeping boyfriend.
It’s been 2 years since you two met.
There was a huge fire that took place in the hotel you used to work at. You got trapped in one of the guest's rooms because you were trying to rescue one of the guests too. Good thing the firefighters from 118 came to rescue you, and it was Eddie who saved you when you were almost hit by a falling debris.
You owe your life to Eddie.
If it weren't for him, you wouldn't be where you are today.
A few days after the fire, he checked up on you to see you're okay and that you're not experiencing any trauma. Then he went back again after a week, not to just check on you but to get your number. Since the day he got your number, the two of you are constantly exchanging messages.
Until one day, he finally asked you out, and the rest was history.
"Hey," you gently caressed his cheeks to wake him up.
His eyes slowly flicker and when he saw you, he got up and sat down on the couch, "I fell asleep while I was waiting for you."
You sat down beside him, "Yeah, I noticed that."
"You worked pretty late today," he said as he stretched his arms.
"We had a lot of issues today with our upcoming group, so I had to stay and negotiate with them. Good thing I'm finally home," you answered.
He wrapped his arms around you and hugged you as warm as he could make you feel, "Yeah, you're home. Chris was actually waiting for you too, but I guess he fell asleep." You felt Eddie kissed your head, "I guess I'm not the only one who misses you."
"Aww, I miss you and Chris too,” you answered as you rest your hand on top of his chest.
This is what made you so excited to come home — to feel secured and happy in the arms of your boyfriend. Ever since you two moved in together, you stopped experiencing nightmares that you’ve been experiencing since you were a kid. And every single time you wake up in the morning, your heart is filled with so much love just by seeing Eddie and Chris.
“By the way,” Eddie faces you but his arms are still wrapped around you, “It’s my off this weekend. I’m planning to take you and Christopher out.”
“That sounds like a nice plan to me,” you answered with a smile on your face.
“Are you sure you’re okay to go out with us? I’m worried you might have to work this weekend, given the circumstances you’re dealing with right now,” he said.
You cupped his right cheeks and assured him that it’s totally okay, “I’m off this weekend too anyways. Plus, I’ve been wanting to go out with you and Chris. I can’t even remember the last time we went out, just the three of us.”
“How ‘bout on Monday?”
“On Monday?” your brows furrowed in confusion, “Chris has school, right?”
“Yeah, but I’m talking about just the two of us,” he said. “I mean, the three of us are already going out this weekend, so I’m wondering if we can have Monday just for the two of us. Like, after we drop Christopher off his school, we can go somewhere, then we’ll pick him up in the afternoon afterwards.”
“I mean, I can take a day off on Monday too, but are you sure you want to go out on Monday? Just the two of us?” you asked.
He grabbed your hand and smiles at you, “Why not? It’s only fair to have some quality time for both of us, right?”
In all honesty, you are excited for some quality time with Eddie.
It’s been a long time since the two of you dated, because the two of you will always think of Christopher first. After all, you promised to each other that Christopher will be part and the top priority of your relationship.
“Sure,” you replied. “So where are you taking me?”
He winked at you, “That’s for me to know and for you to find out.”
“God, you are so full of surprises!” you commented.
Your relationship with Eddie has been both a blessing and a gift. He’s been there with you, through the ups and downs of your life, through thick and thin, through turns and twists. It was like he completed the real meaning of “love” in your life. And there’s no other person you would rather take the risk of falling in love than him.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” he suddenly asked you, not knowing that you’ve been staring at him.
You shook your head as you fix his hair and gave him a smile.
Well, you know your boyfriend too well. He’s not gonna take that as an answer, “Come on, tell me.”
“I just realized how damn lucky I am,” you confessed and you felt his hands on top of yours, “All my life I’ve been looking for someone who could finally understand me, who could love me and teach me to love myself even better. I’m so glad I finally found you.”
“No,” he kissed the back of your hand and gave you a reassuring smile, “I found my way to you. Right from the moment I saved you, my heart already knew you weren’t just a stranger that I needed to save. I had a hard time forgetting you, so I stopped trying to forget you instead, I accepted the truth that you are someone I won’t be forgetting.”
“I know I’m hard to forget,” you joked.
Eddie chuckles, “I have no plans of forgetting you,” he extended his arms around you and pulled you towards his chest, “You’re stuck with me, whether you like it or not.”
“I have no plans of resisting,” you answered.

Tuesday morning.
Steve decides to try to show you around the computer programs that are used the most frequently. He appreciates technology; how could he not, given his engineering background? But he’s a creature of habit. He likes the old tech that’s familiar, comfortable. It’s the reason he hasn’t let them switch out his computer or phone for something newer. The electronic typewriter on the table behind his desk still sees a lot of use. He likes the old adage “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” Nothing wrong with innovation. He admires that. But. When it comes to this job. Well, he just prefers the tried and true methods.
He’s still not an expert on the new scheduling program. He doesn’t use it much. But he figures he might as well try to show you. Every time he moves the mouse to click on something he finds himself on the wrong screen. Confusing the menus. He’s getting frustrated already.
“Here, let me try.”
“No, I think I’ve got it…no, that’s not it.”
“Can I just…” You lean over without waiting for a response. Your fingers close over his to guide the mouse.
Raglan inhales sharply. This close, he can smell your fragrance. Something fruity like raspberries, maybe. Your hair is tidy today now that the skies are finally emptied of water. You’re wearing a black pantsuit that fits better than the outfit you’d worn the previous day. The skin on your fingertips is soft. Your eyes are focused on the screen. He should just remove his hand and let you take over. But he’s frozen, immobile. He can’t remember the last time someone’s touched him beyond the courtesy of a handshake.
“There it is. You were close. It’s just a little convoluted…” Your voice trails off as you release his hand, leaning back. Staring. Something’s happening. You hadn’t quite moved back to your original position. Still close. Heat wafting. That sweet scent.
Steve’s mouth goes dry. He struggles to work moisture into it. “Well, good, I guess we don’t need to waste any more time on that, then. I’m going to go make coffee.” Pushing the swivel leather chair away. At last some clearer air. He fusses at the coffee bar. A little clumsy. Nearly drops the pot on the way to the sink. You’ve unnerved him. Not an easy thing to do. He doesn’t like it. He makes sure his seat is further from yours when he settles again. Grabs some binders from the nearby shelf and dumps them on the desk blotter. Something to distract you until the next client arrives.
The untouched coffee seated on the coaster goes cold.
***
Wednesday afternoon. Another workday behind him.
You’re parked closer to his car today. You’d taken his advice and gotten to work earlier.
Steve halts near the rear bumper of yours. He notices an outline of Hello Kitty affixed to the left corner. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” He turns to leave but your voice halts him.
“Are you doing anything? When you get home, I mean.”
“Nothing in particular. Why?”
“Want to go get coffee first?”
He frowns. “You don’t drink coffee.”
“Well, I’ll get something else then. Know where to get a decent milkshake?”
“I do, actually.” He’s still hesitating. “We just spent eight hours together. You really want to spend another hour?”
“I don’t know anyone else,” you remind him.
So that was the motivating reason behind it. You were lonely. Homesick already. It was certainly beyond any obligation of his. He was only responsible for you at work. Outside of that was your own affair. But a milkshake actually sounded great. He surrenders. “Alright, let’s go.”
“We can take my car.”
Raglan has a difficult time settling into the passenger seat of the compact. His knees press uncomfortably close to the dashboard.
“The lever to move it back is underneath the seat, in the front…yeah, you got it. I guess that’s as far back as it goes,” you murmur apologetically. The seat only moves a few scant inches. The older man is still quite crammed in. “Um, where are we going?”
“Take a right out of here and head to the second set of lights. I’ll tell you the rest when you get to that point.” He reaches for the shoulder strap of the lap restraint and notices there’s a Hello Kitty cushion velcroed over it.
“Is your masculinity threatened yet?” You glance over at him as you reverse the car out of the parking spot.
“Hardly,” he responds drily.
“How come you know who Hello Kitty is, anyway?”
“My daughter.”
“How old is she?
“Around your age.”
“Do you have other children?”
“Yes.”
“How old are they? Are they home with your wife or…”
“No. I live alone.”
“Oh.” You exit the parking lot. There’s a fair amount of traffic this time of the afternoon. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to pry.”
“It’s fine.” It’s not, actually. But you couldn’t possibly know the reason why. So he’ll accept your apology in good faith.
“So where are we going, anyway?”
“A diner.”
“Do you go there a lot?”
“Everyone does. It’s something of a local attraction. That’s it there on your left.”
Steve sighs in relief when he’s able to extricate himself from your cramped vehicle. There are a lot of cars in the parking lot. Probably better off getting something to go. Which meant getting back into the sardine can again right after. Great.
“It’s so cute!”
Raglan grunts, watching you take in the chrome trim, red vinyl seating and checkerboard patterned flooring. Classic 50s styling.
As he’d predicted, there’s a line for seating. “We’ll get drinks to go, okay? Otherwise we’ll be waiting forever.” You nod. “Flavors are up there on the right.” He points to a row of signs with red printing. You protest when he pulls out his wallet after you order and he waves the argument away. “I’ve got it. You can treat me next time.” You look a little too pleased with the promise that there will be a next time and he inwardly curses. He has to be more careful with his wording.
He doesn’t even know why he’s going through this charade at all. He should have just declined and gone home.
Steve jams himself back into the passenger seat and takes a sip of his shake, the burst of sweetness on his tongue mollifying him a bit. Well, he guesses it was maybe worth it. Maybe.
“So since I told you about my family, why don’t you tell me about yours. Siblings?”
“None. Oh, that is good. I get why this place is so popular.” You take another long swallow. “It’s just me and my parents.”
Well, that conversation dead ended quickly. He tries to adjust his knees. He knows he’s going to have bruises before this evening is over.
“Let me ask you something. How do you think I’m doing so far? Be honest.”
He looks at you. “You’re performing adequately.”
“Adequately,” you repeat. “That’s it?”
“You’ve barely just begun. What did you expect?”
“I don’t know. Just not ‘adequately’. What can I do to improve?”
Raglans frowns. “Your handshake is too weak, for one thing.”
“So show me the right way to do it.” You settle your cup into the center console’s holder and the older man mirrors your movements.
He hesitates a moment longer, then reaches out to take your hand. As expected your grip is very tentative. Also cool from the chilled drink. “Harder. Be confident. It will automatically help you when you begin the conversation.”
He feels your fingers tighten, exerting more pressure. Then your hand drops and his goes with it. Still clutching each other, resting on the padded surface between you. Yours so small and soft in his. He withdraws his hand abruptly, jerking free with perhaps a bit more force than necessary, snatching his cup back up and taking a long pull from the straw. Instant brain freeze. He winces.
“How was that?”
“Better.” He busies himself with studying the other cars in the parking lot.
“What else do I need to do to improve?”
“We’ll discuss it at work. I’d like to go home now.”
“Um, okay.”
A silent ride back to the office parking lot. You pull in beside his car.
“Thanks for coming out with me.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Back in his own vehicle. So much roomier.
So much emptier, too.
***
Thursday. There’s a seminar being offered nearby. Steve isn’t really interested, but he thinks you might benefit from it so he agrees to attend with you. Taking one car because it just seems easier. He insists on being the one to drive this time.
“Wow, there’s a cassette player in here. How old is this car, anyway?” You ask, settling inside and drawing the seatbelt strap over your shoulder.
“Old. Like me.” He turns the key in the ignition. The rabbit’s foot swings gently on its chain.
“You’re not that old.”
“That old?”
You grin. He’s starting to like your smile. Soft and sweet and warm. Natural. Genuine.
Once you arrive in the conference center, he allows you to choose where you want to sit. You opt for the back row, occupying the two seats on the end. You’re handed a copy of the PowerPoint presentation. There are lines for taking notes to the right of each printed slide. Steve glances over to see what you’re writing. You’re not. You’re doodling. Drawing. A little cartoon rabbit. He fights the urge to smirk. “Stop that and pay attention,” he hisses. Another smile. There’s no way you’re unaware of how disarming that gesture is.
“It’s for you,” you whisper back, sliding the packet over to him. He hands you his own copy in exchange. Admires the little caricature that is nearly an exact replica of Spring Bonnie, the mascot from the picture on the restaurant coaster in his office. Jaunty bow. Rows of buttons. He stares at it until his vision blurs.
There’s a one hour break for lunch. Fast food has been acquired. Burgers, fries, soda. He chooses a spot at the end of the parking lot. You dip a French fry into sweet and sour sauce. Raglan scowls disapprovingly. “That’s a crime you’re committing right there.”
“No, it isn’t. It’s the salty sweet combo. It’s good. I bet you’ve never even tried it.”
“I don’t need to.”
“You should. It’s not fair to judge it unless you have.” You dip another sliver of fried potato into the plastic cup and hold it before his lips. The pale brown sauce drips down. He takes a reluctant bite. Your fingers brush his tongue in the process. It’s just as you’ve said. Salty. Sweet. You lick the stray dribbles from your fingers, watching his reaction. “It’s good, right?”
He won’t admit it. Just like he refuses to acknowledge he’d liked tasting your skin just then. He stares hard outside the windshield. Lets you babble and grunts noncommittal answers until it’s time to return inside.
Late afternoon. Steve pulls up outside your apartment building to drop you off.
“Thanks. It was fun.”
“It wasn’t supposed to be fun. It was supposed to be educational,” he mutters reprovingly.
“Come on, Steve. It was kind of fun, right?” Your head tips back into the cradle of the headrest, watching him.
“Kind of.” His voice is rough.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” You struggle with the seatbelt buckle.
“It gets stuck sometimes, here…” He leans over. His fingers collide with yours. The mechanism finally surrenders, releasing. The sound of nylon winding back into place. You make no move to leave. Whatever you were expecting clearly hasn’t happened. “See you tomorrow,” he says gruffly, his fingers wrapping around the steering wheel, dismissing you.
***
Steve had forgotten he’d given you his home phone number. Early on, in case you needed to contact him about something work related.
It surprises him when he hears your voice that Friday evening. He doesn’t get personal calls often. Doesn’t usually get calls period unless it’s from a solicitor. He leans forward, easing off of the cushion against his back on the living room couch. “Are you alright? What time is it?” He’s too embarrassed to admit he’d dozed off. He rubs at sleep bleared eyes, trying to focus his gaze on his wristwatch. Only ten.
“Were you asleep? Did I wake you?”
“No,” he lies. “Are you alright?” He repeats. He remembers you mentioning you were going out with some of the other employees after work for drinks. He’d politely declined the invite. He never goes out to socialize. “You didn’t drive home drunk, did you?”
“Yes. No.” A sigh. It’s loud in his ear. Your mouth is very close to the receiver. “I can’t sleep.”
He frowns, leaning back. “You seriously called me in the middle of the night to tell me you have insomnia?”
“It’s not the middle of the night,” you protest. “How early do you usually go to bed?”
“That doesn’t matter.”
“Are you mad? You sound upset. I hate it when you’re upset with me.”
“I’m not upset. Just confused. What do you expect me to do about it? Drink a glass of of warm milk.”
“That’s so gross!”
“Count sheep. Put some television on in the background, I don’t know what you want from me. Take a shower.”
“I just took a bath.”
“Oh.” An image of you swathed in bubbles shoved from his thoughts just as quickly as it appears. “Well how did it go tonight, anyway?”
“It was kind of boring, to be honest. They’re kind of boring.”
“They’re you’re coworkers. You should try to get along with some of them, at the very least. In case you ever need—”
“—I wish you had gone.”
His hand tightens on the receiver. “I don’t see what possible difference it would have made.”
“Because then someone I actually wanted to talk to would have been there.”
He doesn’t have a response for that. Doesn’t really comprehend any of what’s happening beyond you being inebriated and lonely. Again, not his problem.
“I think you should try to sleep now.”
“Okay, I guess. If that’s what you think I should do.”
“Yes, I do.”
“You’re sure you’re not mad?”
“Starting to be,” he mutters.
“Wait, Steve, really?” You suddenly sound sober.
“Forget it. Just get some rest. I’ll see you Monday.” He hangs up the phone, deciding on a shower before bed.
Comforter and top sheet flipped back and he’s tucked beneath both. Eyes snapping back open as soon as they’re closed. Staring up into the void. Sleep eluding his capture.
***
A new week of work begins.
You arrive looking well rested. If you’re at all embarrassed about the other evening’s phone call it doesn’t show. Maybe you’d even forgotten it. Well, he certainly wasn’t going to dwell on it.
“Can we eat outside today? It looks nice by the pond.” You let the blinds snap back into place and rejoin him behind the desk.
“You can have lunch wherever you want.”
“You’ll come with me, though, right? I don’t want to eat by myself.”
“Maybe.” He’s not committing himself to that. “You need to focus on the task at hand right now. The next client is coming in soon. You’re going to be leading the discussion.”
You nod, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear. “How do I look?”
“Nervous.”
You frown.
“Poised, articulate, confident. Those are the three qualities you need. Even if you’re not feeling them, you should exude them.”
You blink, looking surprised. “You want me to lie?”
“Sometimes lying is the correct choice. The only choice,” he adds.
“That’s…I don’t even know. Give me one example of when it’s better to lie.”
“Fine. Say a young child’s lost their parent in a violent death. Isn’t it kinder to say they went to sleep, they’re in heaven with loved ones, watching over them, whatever platitude people like to spout, as opposed to telling them they were murdered, hacked to pieces by some serial killer?”
“Geez, that’s really dark.”
He shrugs. “You wanted an example.”
You shake your head. “I still don’t think people should lie.”
Steve grunts. “Do as you like. I’m only trying to give you pointers to ensure your success.”
“Do you lie a lot?”
Oh, what a question. If you only knew. “Yes.”
“To me?”
“What would I lie to you about?”
You squirm in your seat. “I don’t know.”
“I wouldn’t worry about it.”
“But why? Why would you?”
He sighs. His fingers drum on the desk blotter. The conversation is becoming tedious. He wishes the applicant would hurry up and make an appearance. “For the same reason as the example I gave you. For your own good.”
“I don’t understand.”
“You’re not supposed to. Where the hell is this woman? Maybe I should have reception give her a call. See if she forgot, got tied up or…”
“Steve.”
The drumming fingers still. “What?”
“I don’t want you to lie to me. I’m not a child.”
“Then don’t act like one.”
“Is it because of my car?”
You’re trying to make light of the situation and it irritates him to no end. “It’s everything. Everything about you screams immature. Your appearance. Your demeanor. And yes, that ridiculous car. Getting drunk and calling me up.” He sees you wince but he barrels forward. “Even asking me for permission to eat outside. Take some initiative. Be an adult and make a decision on your own.”
The light, teasing tone evaporates. “I thought we were friends.” Your voice is faint, barely audible.
“Friends? We’re not friends. We’re coworkers. That’s it. I didn’t volunteer for this. You were foisted upon me. All because you had some preconceived notion that I was going to be some ideal instructor for you to follow. You shouldn’t even be here. You belong up north. Back with your parents. Whatever friends you had there. There’s nothing for you here.”
It’s like a floodgate has been opened. He knows he’s being unnecessarily cruel. It’s hardly the first time. So why does he feel so guilty for saying these things to you?
Your eyes are getting shiny. Making him feel even more uncomfortable. “Don’t even think about crying. I’m not dealing with th—” The phone rings, interrupting his next tirade. “Raglan. Great. Yeah, find a block to reschedule.” He hangs up, glancing at you. “She cancelled. We’re free until the afternoon now. After lunch.”
You nod, averting your gaze.
“I’m going outside.” He doesn’t wait for a response, grabbing his lunch tote and heading for the elevator. He punches the down arrow with more force than necessary. Stupid, feeling remorse. Over some new hire. Who was immature and overly sensitive. He was doing you a favor. The real world was not a kind place. You needed to toughen up. The training wheels had to come off sooner or later. Might as well be sooner.
The career counselor settles onto one of the shadier picnic tables. Doesn’t even bother unzipping the bag. He’s looking out at the water. A pair of mallards and a row of offspring following. Gentle quacks. Preening feathers. Beaks dipping for a drink.
You sit beside him. Drop a plastic shopping bag on the weathered wood. Make no move to open it, staring at the pond.
“I brought you a brownie.”
He blinks, looking over at you. Your gaze is still focused on the scenery. You sniffle. He thinks some of those tears made good on their threats and escaped after he’d left you in his office.
“Thank you,” he says stiffly.
You nod. “I’m not…I’m not really hungry.”
“Neither am I. I’m going to go for a walk.” He stands. Glances at your seated form. “You can come along, if you want.”
You rise from the bench. Still not making eye contact. The older man begins walking. The trees grow thicker the further away from the pond you travel, a dense stand that reaches back to the edge of the property. Conservation land that can’t be developed. Sunlight struggling to reach through the leaves. Dappled shadows. He likes it better here. Too fair skinned for all that light beaming down. Better in the cool green shade. The pond is no longer in sight. Even the office building is out of his field of view. In truth he’s never been back this far.
Steve halts abruptly and you stumble to stop beside him, nearly tripping over a tree root. What he means to do is simply break your fall. Curse you out for being clumsy. But his body has other intentions. The arm that was to be a barrier curling around you. Pulling you against him.
It’s not in him to say he’s sorry. He’s not one to apologize. He thinks it’s a sign of weakness. A degradation of character. Erosion of pride. He won’t allow it.
Your back rests against his chest. He hadn’t set a very brisk pace. More of a leisurely stroll. But now he finds it hard to breathe. The harsh rasp of it echoing loudly. His arm is still wrapped around you. Both of your hands curled over it. His lips pressed against your hair. Inhaling the scent buried there. Strawberry shampoo. He releases you gently. Doesn’t push you away, merely loosens his grip. Feels your hands hesitating over his dropping arm. Reluctant to let go. You turn to face him. His lips part as if to speak. What will he say now? What can he possibly say?
He says nothing. The coward’s way out. He turns back in the direction of the pond. You follow beside.
The trees keep this secret.

The Struggles of Being Too Fat for Fat Camp
This was inspired by an incredible video by @lardfill. Sadly, I can't find a current link to the video and I only have it as an mp4. But basically the entire second part in the kitchen is inspired by that.
Rating: Explicit Words: 2387 Relationship: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers Additional Tags: Weight Gain, Teasing, Name-Calling, pig, Bucky calls himself a pig, Belly Kink, No Lube, ...dish soap, it's inspired by a real video!, Fat Bucky Barnes, literally getting off from his own fat, Extreme Weight Gain, Mobility Struggles, out of breath, modern AU, Established Relationship

The inevitable conversation about moving in together came up earlier than Bucky had expected. Just after he’d entered cabin 13 Steve had already stood in the doorway, knocked on the door frame and wrung his hands.
“I’ve got a flat in town. Just until the end of summer, but, you know, you could move in. If you wanted to.”
Of course, Bucky had agreed to spend the rest of the summer there. No useless dieting rules that he wasn’t going to follow anyway, no annoying team sports and activities, and no one that expects him to lose any weight.
When they finally lived together, it didn’t take long for them to settle into a comfortable routine living together.
Steve would get up early to go for a run and to make breakfast. While Bucky spent another hour just lounging in bed with the sun shining on his face, slowly waking up to the quiet sounds of Steve moving around the kitchen.
However, today Bucky woke up to the soft press of Steve’s lips to his temple and his hand gently squeezing his plush side.
“Morning, sleepy head.” Steve could barely hide his amusement at Bucky’s wide-eyed look around. When he noticed Steve wearing his counsellor uniform already, Bucky tried to sit up. His efforts were hindered by the heavy weight of his belly.
“What time is it?” Bucky had to build up a bit of momentum first and Steve ultimately helped him scoot back to rest against the headboard.
“Almost half nine.”
Bucky sighed, “Wanted to eat breakfast with you.”
Steve’s expression softened and he tucked a stray strand of hair behind Bucky’s ear.
"I didn't want to wake you up if I didn't have to."
Bucky couldn’t stop the warmth that bubbled up inside him. It built into a fond smile that pulled at his lips.
“Tomorrow?” he asked.
“Tomorrow.” Steve pulled a serious expression before he broke out into a smile again. “Do you want to stay in bed a bit longer or some help getting up before I leave?”
The sleep-warm duvet tempted Bucky to stay a bit longer, but he could feel the beginnings of hunger coil in his stomach. So, he stretched his arms out towards Steve, who gripped his hands tightly. Together they got Bucky on his feet and out of the bedroom in no time. Alone Bucky would’ve probably taken twice as long just to get up, but he needed fewer breaks when he could lean some of his weight on Steve.
Still, just the few weeks he had spent living with Steve had resulted in even more weight piling onto his already morbidly obese body. While Bucky didn’t feel much heavier, his doughy belly had gotten wider and softer and increasingly unwieldy. Where he used to be able to grab a good roll, now the fat was so pliable it almost slid out of his grip of its own volition.
This new development also led to his belly working more and more against him when Bucky tried to walk. It weighed on his thighs and swayed between his thighs with every step. The heavy swing always in opposition to the leg he needed to bring forward. His breathing was laboured from the moment he heaved himself out of bed and the sofa creaked dangerously beneath him he plopped down on it.
Steve placed the small folding table in front of Bucky and started loading it with a veritable breakfast buffet until it bowed under the weight of all the plates. Sweet and savoury, a stack of pancakes soaked in maple syrup, thick cut slices of bread with margarine melting into it and sprinkled with garden cress, two cinnamon rolls the size of Bucky’s palm and a bowl of thick, oatmeal topped with spoonfuls of peanut butter and halved plums.
“Here.” Steve handed Bucky a piece of grapefruit. “It’s really good. I had some for breakfast.” Steve smiled at the ground and shuffled his feet. ”Wanted to share.”
Bucky waited until Steve looked back up to say, “Thank you.”
“I’ll make dinner tonight, ok?”
“I don’t know when I’ll be back. Fury planned some competition for the campers that could take until the evening,” Steve paused and grinned when he remembered the last year Bucky spent at camp,“or just a few minutes.”
With a kiss and a promise to call before the end of his shift Steve left the flat. Bucky could finally dig into the food Steve had prepared for him.
It didn’t take long for him to feel full, but Bucky didn’t get to his current size by stopping when he was full. With the bread and oatmeal gone, he started on the pancakes. The carbs were laying heavily in his stomach, he felt the familiar bloat settle in.
So, he set about eating the thick slices of freshly baked bread. His initial plan was to force them down quickly so he would be finished before the bloating really caught up to him, but when he bit into the first slice, he couldn’t help himself slowing down to savour it.
The crust crackled between his teeth and the soft middle was soaked through from the thick spread of margarine. On his first bite he noticed the faint taste of other herbs as well. The tang of the sourdough bread spread on his tongue and Bucky couldn’t hold back the content hum at the combination of the taste and texture of the still hand-warm bread.
Bucky warmed up the cinnamon rolls in the microwave and ate them as a late morning snack. Yesterday’s leftovers served as lunch to keep him comfortably full into the afternoon. The hours of stuffing slowly transitioned into himwatching TV, burping his way through the bloat and rubbing away the tightness in his stomach
After nursing away most of the pain, Bucky finally pulled out his laptop to work on some of his course assignments for after the semester break, but the contentment of a lazy morning and a still-full belly had him falling asleep on the couch without meaning to.
The late afternoon sun warmed Bucky’s face as he blearily opened his eyes. He groaned when he saw the low battery warning on his laptop. Bucky checked the clock — almost five — and then his phone for any messages from Steve. Even though a lazy sort of hunger curled at the back of Bucky’s mind when he looked down at himself he could still see the bloat from his extended breakfast. He could still feel the heavy weight of the food in his stomach.
Not for the first time Bucky was surprised just by how fat he was — how much fatter he was getting every day. He pulled his shirt up and splayed his hands over his upper belly, he couldn’t even cover half of it. Then he trailed lower, grabbed onto his sides and hefted his belly up to let it drop down again. It rippled through the fat all over his body and his dick gave an interested twitch.
I’m getting so fat, was all Bucky could think when he saw his belly continuing to move on its own like this. The smallest movement making it shake and jiggle, his fat moving in waves across his body. He grabbed the sides of his belly again and let it drop into his lap. Then he tried to reach over it, he reached his belly button and about a handbreadth beneath it, but he couldn’t actually reach the lowest part of his belly.Thick arousal started to cloud his mind.
“Fuck,” Bucky groaned and scooted lower on the sofa. His hands dug almost painfully into the fat on his sides. He noticed how it spilled over the edge of the sofa even though he was pressed into the cushions of the backrest. Just exploring all this new softness had him half hard under the heavy overhang on his thighs. But he wanted to feel out the changes to his body some more.
His hands came up to his moobs and he lifted them each up and let them drop through his hands again. Bucky skimmed his finger over his nipples, they felt even more sensitive with just the weight he’d put on living with Steve, stretched out from gaining weight even there. He’d never really had pecs, always soft even at his lowest weight.
Bucky tried to get more comfortable. He splayed his legs as wide as he could, but the couch was barely wide enough to fit his entire body. He bent his knee and tried to get his heavy belly to pool to one side, to give him access to his dick.
Every one of his movements was followed by a grunt, just trying to move himself into position, a difficult task for someone Bucky’s size. He tried to heft his belly up and to the side, out of the way so he could finally get his fingers on his dick that was growing harder underneath his fat pad.
With his belly hanging over the side of the couch, however, it only felt like he was about to be pulled off by its weight. Bucky rolled more onto his side, angled his knee more, but no matter what all he could reach were his thigh rolls and his fat pad, he couldn’t actually get to his buried dick.
He tried one more time, adjusting his position and trying to work his way along his fat pad, but the furthest he ever managed to reach was just barely skimming the tips of his fingers over the tip of his dick.
“Fuck,” Bucky breathed. Oh, God, I’m too fat to jerk off.
His emotions were all over the place. Partly in awe at how big he’d eaten himself, slightly shocked he’d ever let himself get this fat, but most importantly so incredibly turned on and he couldn’t do anything about it. Unless he got up and tried again in bed — more room to spread his legs and get his belly out of the way.
He pushed the folding table to the side and prepared himself to get up. His lower belly was trapped against his thighs, so he grabbed at that lowest roll to move the heavy overhang to droop between his legs. Then he scooted forward.
He couldn’t help the noises he made, moving this much mass forced grunts and sighs from his straining lungs. Once he got his body right to the edge of the sofa, he rocked back and forth to build up the momentum to get to his feet. The couch had been sagging lower every day, so he had to cover an even greater distance just to stand up.
Might as well get something to eat for after. So, instead of heading to the bedroom Bucky turned to the kitchenette. They kept snacks in the cupboards above the kitchen. Bucky was craving something salty and headed for the right side.
Opening the cupboard wasn't too difficult since Bucky could just grab the bottom of the door. However, reaching the chips he wanted was a different story. Of course, his favourites were high on the second level.
Bucky stretched upwards, going up on his toes just for his finger tips to barely graze the package.
The cold countertop pressing against Bucky’s belly startled him, but the enticing snack kept him going.
As he moved closer to try and reach the cupboard his fat pad pressed against the counter too and when he stretched up his fat pad almost spilled onto it. His belly and fat pad rubbing together against the cold hard counter.
That's when he got the idea.
He should have gone to the bedroom.
He should have lied down, gotten comfortable and used some actual lube, but he was here and horny and some watery dish soap seemed good enough for lubrication.
His inhales were stumbling over each other, a strangled sound and he had to slow down to actually take a breath. He lifted his belly, blindly searching for his fat pad before finally grabbing it and maneouvering his dick to rest on the counter too. When he let go of his belly, it added the most incredible pressure.
He could barely lift his entire belly up and then it slapped right back onto the counter, he moved on to just jiggling it, letting the counter take most of the weight of the fat apron on his front and just moving it by shaking and grabbing rolls all over it, letting the fat rub over his dick. Relishing in the feeling of having gained so much weight that he could fuck his own fat.
“Fat fucking pig,” Bucky said to himself in between wheezing breaths. Steve always defaulted to praise, but sometimes Bucky needed that humiliation. Someone telling him how much fatter he was gonna get if he kept eating more.
“Gonna get bigger, fatter.” Bucky’s thrusts were becoming erratic, his muscles were shaking with the effort to keep his hips driving forward against the counter.
“Please,” Bucky could barely get the word out with how ragged his breathing had gotten. Begging someone, anyone to let him come before his legs gave out.
A dull, tight pain had started settling in his joints, lactic acid built up in his thigh muscles. Still he kept up the shallow thrusts, even as it became increasingly difficult to command his body to keep going.
"Fuck," Bucky grunted, "I'm such a pig."
He tried to wrap his arms around his belly to adjust it one last time. So close to coming, racing against exhaustion. The very body he was getting off to, threatening to cut his orgasm short.
One last grunt and he was finally rewarded. Thick spurts of cum painting his belly, mixing with the soap suds.
His legs were shaking, knees threatening to buckle. He was holding himself up on the counter though his arms also quickly tired. With a last effort he made it to the chair in the kitchen and let himself fall down on it.
"What a work out," Bucky chuckled to himself, reverently running his hands over his belly.
And then his gaze fell on the chips packet that was tilting out of the cupboard, perfectly in reach if Bucky just stretched up a little.

Wipe Out - Part 2
I chose to keep the name but change the contents which made this part longer so thank you all for doing the poll.
Word count: 2000+ (i hope you enjoy this)
No warnings in this but rabid Rutger and sweet and blushy Luke!
“Luke needs a pen, Lia, but he doesn’t want to use ours for whatever strange reason,” said Ethan, snickering.
“Mr. Edwards,” said the professor, who looks like he does not have the patience for four rambunctious hockey players at 9 in the morning (neither do I), “is there anything you would like to share with the class that pertains to Economics?”
“No, sir. I’ll keep it down.” “I hope you will.” He said before continuing with the lecture.
A few more minutes go by before I feel something small hit the back of my head. “You can’t aim for shit, Fridge!” I heard Tyler whisper behind me. “So much for hand-to-eye coordination.” The Professor then puts on a video for the rest of the class that ‘carries a lot of information on the material we will learn in this class.’ He’s got his feet kicked up, watching the video as if necessary.
I feel the small object again make contact between my shoulder blades. That’s it.
I whip my head around before whispering, “If you idiots throw another piece of paper at me, I will lose my mind. Luke, here’s a pencil. Next time, ask. And Rutger, you do have terrible aim.” With this, I toss Luke my only good pencil and turn around to act like I’m interested in what the video is saying.
The rest of the class ended smoothly before we were dismissed. I have a two-hour window to give me time to find where I’ll be doing ski practice. As I walk out, I catch the four hockey players in the corner of my eye. They’re nudging Luke towards me as they seem to have inner turmoil before he finally faces me.
His cheeks turned a light crimson before making their way to me. “Hey,” is all he says while scratching the back of his neck, eyes facing the ground, “sorry about class today. The guys can be… well,” as we both look behind him to see the other three snickering like a pack of hyenas.
“It’s not a problem, Luke. Next time, though, ask me for a pencil. I don’t mind.” He cheers up at this, giving me that lopsided grin again. “Oh!” he digs in his pocket and pulls out the pencil I gave him earlier. “You probably want this back. It’s a good pencil. Don’t want you to think I was stealing or anything.”
“Keep it,” I say, giving him a small smile. “I’ve got a bunch of them back at the dorm.” “Are you sure?”
“Yeah. No biggey.”
There’s a ghost of a smile on his face as he sticks the pencil back in his pocket. Then I suddenly remembered practice. “Oh, shoot, I gotta get to practice. I’ll see you tomorrow! Bye, boys!” I say before heading to the practice site.
“Bye, Lia!” I hear the boys scream in sing-song voices. Yep, this year isn’t going to be boring at all.
Fast Forward to Practice
“Alright, ladies! Welcome to the first official practice for Michigan’s Women’s Volleyball. My name is Coach Z, and this is Assistant Coach Mills.” She said, gesturing to the woman beside her.
Coach Z played volleyball for a living. She was a tall redhead with piercing grey eyes. You can tell she meant business. The more I looked at her, the more I saw the Olympic rings tattooed on her left wrist. She went to the Olympics!? She’s the real deal! Coach Mills was way more petite, maybe at 5’6, than Coach Z’s 6’2. She was a brunette with glasses and wore her hair in a messy bun. She was going to be the nice cop out of the two, I can tell.
“This year is a redemption year. Last year, we took a hard loss at championships against Penn State, and I intend on us coming back stronger and harder. Hush it, Hannah!” she said to the snickering blonde in the back. Her face reddened immediately as all eyes were on her. “I know your sister and mother. Don’t try me,” Coach Z warned.
“Now that we have formalities out of the way, I want to see if you are conditioned enough to even get to championships.” Uh oh. “First, we’ll run four laps around the gym, two sets of 30 jumping jacks, two sets of 25 burpees, and then we’ll play some actual ball.”
We all stood in shock. No one moved. Coach Mills calmly pulled out her stopwatch and said, “Laps start now. If anyone is slacking or not putting in their best effort, we’ll add another lap or high-intensity workouts. Time starts NOW!”
We all start running around the court before they drop something else on us. I have no idea how this school is ranked 12th because these two ladies will kill us before championships are even around the corner.
We make it through the drills and the exercises before playing a scrimmage game. I’m on the yellow team, which represents the away team in this case. This is to give the coaches a look into the type of team they’ll play with. I noticed right away that there’s not a lot of communication. “Hey Hannah,” I say, tapping her shoulder after the first set, “you’re a hitter, right?”
“Yeah? Why?”
“Look for me next time you approach the net. I can’t send it to you if you are too early. And Lindsay”, I say to our Libero, “You’re a little late on getting to the middle. That’s why they keep attacking there. Maggie gives her some backup, too,” I say to our middle blocker.
After forming this plan, our side started gaining momentum and earning some points. We had to dig some to save a few, but ultimately, we returned and won the last two sets. Coach Mills dismissed us to the showers before Coach Z yelled my name and someone else.
“LI! Adams! I need to see both of you for a second.”
Another girl and I walk back onto the court. ‘Adams’ stands at 6’0, brunette with blonde highlights, and looks to be a senior.
Coach Z looks both of us over for a second before speaking. “How old are you, Li?”
“17, ma’am. I graduated early,” I say, answering her silent question to go along with her bewildered expression. “Jesus! Ok, Adams, here is our senior in command and our captain. Sorry, I didn’t introduce her to you all. I like seeing everyone act a fool before nearly shitting their pants because the captains have been there the whole time,” She said, snickering. Coach Mills rolls her eyes at this.
“I tell her every year to stop, but to no avail.”
“Anyway, Adams, do you think I would be a good addition to our captain roster for next year?”
Huh? I’m going deaf or forgetting English.
“I don’t see a problem with that. She brought her side back in the last two sets. She’s got a high volleyball IQ.”
I’m forgetting English. Are they talking about me? This is only my first day. Maybe if I try to translate in my head-
“Li!”
“Yes! Sorry, say that again?”
“We want you to be our second captain.”
“Uhm, this is a tremendous honor. I mean, I just got here-“
“Li, I have seen intense competition where you fall back and can’t make up those points. I sat here and watched you form a plan in 2 minutes or less and won a scrimmage game. You read your players and the court like no other. I don’t play with things like this.”
Do it. You know you can do it. Don’t second guess. You can’t fail something you never tried. This woman has seen an Olympic court. Do it.
“It would be my honor to be this team’s second captain.”
Fast Forward
The walk to my next afternoon class is exhausting. I’m going to feel this more in the morning. I stay awake during Bio and Humanities and barely pass college algebra. I walk out of the class and glance at my watch. 3:30 is what it reads. I have plenty of time to go to the library or crash in my dorm.
“Hey Lia,” I hear to my left, and I pray that it’s no one whose name starts with an E or an R. I glance, and I see that mop of curls. Luke. Suddenly, I had all the energy in the world and had to tell myself to calm down mentally.
“Hey Luke, where are you headed to?” Does that sound clingy? I hope not.
“Headed to practice at Yost. What about you?”
“Deciding on heading to the dorm or the library. I had practice this morning.” “How did that go?” he asked as we slowly walked towards Yost.
“Coach asked me to be the second captain. And I said yes.” “No way already! You must be perfect to be on Coach Z’s radar. Everyone here is afraid of her. But I’m happy for you. Captain.”
“Don’t call me that!” I say before playfully hitting his arm and him acting like I shot him.
“Well, I’m happy for you. Really.”
As we walked, I could tell he wanted to ask me something. He alternated between messing with his hair and shoving his hands in his pockets.
“Is there something you need to ask me, Luke?” I broke the silence slightly, startling him.
“Oh! I just wanted to know if you're not tired or busy and want to see us practice. You can study there, and I’ll walk you back like last time.” He rattled off in one breath.
He wants you to see how he plays. He WANTS you there.
“Sure, Luke. I’d like that.”
He gives me that lopsided grin that I like as we finally reach Yost arena. Almost all the guys and a couple of new ones are there.
“LIA!” screamed Rutger as he ran at me at full speed. Thankfully, another boy grabbed his hood before getting too far and nearly choking him. “Will you stop it? You don’t have to act rabid.”
“Dammit, Mark, you almost killed me!”
“If that’ll calm you down, then sure. Why do you think your name is Fridge.”
A blonde then takes up my vision with beautiful teeth. That’s weird. Stop that.
“Excuse the idiots that go by Rutger and Mark. I’m Luca.” Why are all these boys so big? And why are some borderline insane or borderline gentlemen?
“Luke wouldn’t have let him get far- OWW!!” screamed Ethan as Luke elbowed him hard in the ribs before muttering a ‘shut the fuck up!’
“Guys, come up before coach tears us a new one!”
“Coming, Adam dear,” said Rutger. This boy is going to be the death of me.
“Hey, I’ll see you in the stands, ok? Wait till I’m out of the showers, and I can walk you home,” said Luke, whispering. I confirmed him with an Okay before heading to the general stands.
I opt for more seats in the middle to give myself some quiet time before the guys come out. “Is this seat taken?”
I look up, and a blonde girl points to the seat to my right. “Oh no, it’s not. Have at it.”
“I’m Kayleigh, by the way. And you?” “Lia. Nice to meet you.” “Likewise. You here watching someone in particular?” “Um, not really. Luke invited me. I may watch some, but I’m mainly here for homework.” “I’m here for Rutger. Girlfriend has to support boyfriend.” I can’t control my facial expressions because she laughs at me. Rutger. Loud, rabid, and oddly lovable Rutger. HAS A GIRLFRIEND?? I mean, he is good, I can’t deny, but the boy acts like he runs on Red Bull.
“Judging by your face your surprised. He’s a sweetheart, trust me. He is hyper, though.” She says, giggling. Hyper doesn’t even explain the specimen named Rutger.
Just then, the boys come out and start doing drills. Kayleigh informed me that Luke was number 43, which I mentally noted. They all stop after drills to discuss drills with the coach before starting what I assume is the equivalent of a scrimmage.
“Hey, you want to move closer to the glass. You’ll see the ice a lot better that way?” Asked Kayleigh. I reluctantly agreed as we moved behind the glass behind the benches.
Seeing everything up close puts into perspective the difference between our two sports. It’s very high contact, and I cringe whenever someone contacts someone. Amidst all this, I see how passionate Luke is about his sport, just like I’m passionate about mine. His demeanor completely changes when he gets in his defensive position. During the play, he sees me, and I make a small wave and see his mood change again.
It's hard to see through the cage, but I see that lopsided grin again before Luca comes and makes a hit on him.
“Oh my God! Is he ok?!”
“He’s probably fine, but that did look bad.”
“EYES UP HUGHES!” yelled the coach from the ice.
He was slow in getting up, but overall, he looked fine. I could see his neck glowing red above his jersey's neck. I hope I didn’t embarrass him.
The rest of their practice went smoothly. I completed a good amount of my homework and could relax for what felt like the first time today. Kayleigh and I got to know each other better, and she helped me understand some of the hockey terminology and the game's overall play.
At the end of their practice, I did like Luke said and waited for him by the locker room when he finished his shower. I then realized I didn’t give Luke any contact information. Not even socials. How would I bring that up to him? “Hey Lia! I’m done now, so let’s get you home,” said Luke, freshly showered from the locker room. His curls were still a little wet, but thankfully, it was a bit humid outside, so maybe he wouldn’t get a cold.
“Hey, Luke. Sorry about you getting hit. I didn’t mean to distract you,” I said, avoiding eye contact because I felt terrible.
“Hey, it’s alright, please don’t feel bad. The guys just chirped me a little, but that’s all. I like it when you distract me.” I look at him, and I see that he means it. He didn’t hesitate to rephrase it, either.
“Well, I’m glad you're okay,” I said as we left the arena. We bid goodbye to the last of the guys and made our trek back to our dorms. The sky is a mixture of red and pink, signaling evening has come upon us. The breeze picked up a bit; Luke noticed this and gave him his Michigan hockey jacket. “Take this as a repayment for the pencil during class today.”
Luke would never admit it, but he loved seeing his jacket on her. It fueled the underlying feelings for each other, but it was too early for either to announce it.
The rest of the walk is silent but peaceful. Just like the day before when he walked her home. They were enjoying each other’s company. As they approach the dorm rooms, both take a chance to make the first move in their friendship.
“We have a few home games coming up. If you’d like, I can put in a good word and get you good seats in the student section,” said Luke, scratching the back of his neck.
“I think I can do the same for my games. Since I’m captain, I’ll try to convince Coach Z.” He chuckled at this.
“And if you ever need a place to study, you can always come to the arena, and I can walk you home only if you want to! Or we can meet in the library-“ “I’d like that. All of that.”
There’s that lopsided grin again.
We reached the dorm rooms quicker than expected, which was my chance to make the first move.
“Is it ok if I get your number or socials before you go? So that we can talk more outside of class and coordinate schedules?”
“Oh yeah, sure. May I?” I hand him my phone, and he types in his number and pulls up his Instagram so I can follow him.
“Thanks. For pretty much everything.” “Like what?”
“Orientation day, class, your practice, and just being helpful as I settle here. It’s comforting.”
His face turns red at my words as he scratches his neck and tries not to show a smile.
“Well, goodnight Luke. See you tomorrow,” I say, giving him a small smile before heading inside.
“Good night, Lia.”
I had a hard time sleeping that night thinking about today's events. It was a fantastic day. I hear my phone buzz beside me. I look at the glaring screen to see that Luke followed me back. He also sent me a message.
Lhughes_06: here’s our schedule in case you want to see us play
Lia.li.23: thanks, here’s ours too (picture attachment)
Lhughes_06: thanks! I’m glad you stayed for the whole practice. Luca didn’t hit me too hard. I’m too harsh for that.
Lia.li.23: haha sure! Get some sleep. We have a practice tomorrow, too, so if you have time between classes, drop by 
Lhughes_06: for sure. Good night Lia
Lia.li.23: good night, Linguine
Lhughes_06: Luca saw that, and now I won’t live it down.

———
Just as I was thinking about how ridiculously bold it was for me to put my number on that cup, I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket once I returned home.
‘Meet me at the weathervane in your lunch break tomorrow?~Larissa’
My eyes went wide as I re-read the message over and over until I realise that she can see if I’ve viewed it, I quickly replied.
‘Sure, 12:30? Are you sure you have time?’
Immediately it was seen and I waited in anticipation once the three little dots popped up.
‘That’s fine, even if I don’t I will always make time darling.”
I didn’t know exactly what to reply, so I just turned off my phone and threw it on my bed, I could feel my face flushing at the thought of her. I stripped off and got ready for a shower, the chill of the room raising goosebumps along my skin, the tile floor of the bathroom freezing the soles of my feet, stepping in, I let out a hum at the hot water encapsulating my body finally letting myself relax against the wall, ridding myself of the day, not that it was so bad.
Once out, dried off and dressed, I jump into bed not bothering with dinner, being far to exhausted to cook or order anything, I snuggle into my thick duvet and flick on the tv to half watch and listen to another true crime story. It isn’t always ideal to watch this stuff when I live alone, especially as a woman, but there’s something oddly calming about it, even if I get slightly paranoid. After a while I fell asleep at around 8:00pm, but woke at around 12 to turn the tv off.
———
The next morning I woke up earlier than usual to perfect my simple make up, applying a layer of foundation and mascara, the smallest bit of matte pink lipstick and to be sure to have every hair on my head in place held in a slicked back ponytail. ‘I just hope this will last for at least 8 hours, the next 4 don’t matter.’ I thought.
Throwing on my black jeans and fluoro pink work shirt, as well as a baggy pink and black work wear jacket, I glance at myself in the floor length mirror, every time I do I see nothing I like, nothing pretty, nothing special, I feel like I must be such a curiosity to other people, my job, my height, my weight, my strange mix of masculinity and femininity, I know I’m not skinny or thin but I’m not that big either, anymore at least. The stretch marks on my stomach, thighs and breasts are the things I try so hard to cover up. I can’t help but wonder why anyone would want to be with or associate around someone like me, even if I personally don’t discriminate against what people look like. That also brings me to ponder why Larissa asked to have lunch with me today.
I think my collar bone length, warm blond hair is probably the only thing I change often or really take care of, I try to do my nails and keep them clean and presentable, always painted in a nude pink, which is ironic considering i don’t actually like the colour. I change the studs in all of my piercings, rotating the gold from small hoops to diamonds. My hands are scared and calloused from 22 years of working with rough materials as well as my legs and forearms, I guess I’ve no need to be jealous or overthink about others body’s or physique’s I’m a grown woman after all, but the insecurity is always at the forefront of my mind.
After traipsing out of the house, I finally made it into work at 5am, turning on all the lights and compressors and the radio I listen to until 9, it goes off once my boss turns up. “No music in the factory Violet.” He’d say, which is bullshit, it’s so fucking boring without it. Walking into the shop’s kitchenette, I flick on the kettle to make my morning tea in a travel cup and tap my fingers on the bench in waiting. It’s already freezing today, the cold seeping through my layers of clothing and apparently the concrete walls, yesterday was warm enough to wear shorts and go without a jumper.
Consulting with my boss about the order needing to be placed for the cupboards going to nevermore was nauseating, It took a lot longer than usual because of all the questions he asked about yesterday afternoon. “So how was going to the school for strange kids yesterday?” He asked sarcastically, not looking up from his computer. “Their not strange, their just different to you. And it was fine, obviously got all the information we need.” I said annoyed. “Right.” After a long pause he spoke again. “Miss Weems seemed to enjoy your presence, she didn’t shut up about the stuff you showed her.” I was perplexed and rolled my eyes. “Well at least someone appreciates it.” I said under my breath looking down at my thighs picking bits of lint and sawdust off the material. He was quiet after that.
12:15 rolled around, I grabbed the keys to my personal car and popped back into his office to tell him I’m going on break, it was so nice on the short walk in the sun. I jumped in my black Mercedes sports car and made my way down the street, turning a few corners I parked outside the wethervane and locked the car before entering the cafe. Larissa wasn’t there yet, so I took a seat in a booth next to the large window with my back turned to the door.
Staring out the glass and watching the towns people walk about, some in tandem with each other holding hands, some parents with young children or strollers, a few elderly people walking in groups giving the impression of being friends for years going for a walk with their wife’s arms wrapped around there husbands. One in particular caught my attention, a young man who looks to be in his early 20s exiting the florist bearing a bunch of white roses, his demeanour riddled with nerves, he sat at a park bench close to the other side of the road, pulling out a little black box, he observed it for a moment before snapping it shut, than stood smoothing down his hair and blazer before walking away. A small smile crept on my face hoping all goes well for his next obvious destination, but it quickly faded in a realisation, which I wish to forget.
A hand on my shoulder ripped me out of my mind, turning my head around I see her. Larissa. A huge grin took over my face clearly out doing her small smile. “Afternoon violet.” She greeted. “Hi.” I responded sounding so high pitched I internally cringe at myself. Larissa placed her purse on the surprisingly unsticky table and takes a seat in front of me. “How are you darling.” She asked removing a black leather glove. “I’m alright, not particularly busy today which is pretty good but that just means the day will drag a lot longer, better now I’m here with you though.” I said, staring at her beautifully red painted nails. “Oh that’s horrible, you must get lonely in there by yourself no?” She stated. “It’s nice, but sometimes I wish I had someone to talk to. Don’t you get lonely? Being in your office?” I asked wondering why she’d worry about me when I’m sure she’s in the same position. “Not at all, I have teachers, students, parents, groundskeepers and just about every other kind of person in and out all day, sometimes it gets so frustrating I put a ‘do not disturb’ sign on my door just for at least five minutes of peace.” She exhaled slightly rolling her eyes at the thought, I nodded in understanding, chuckling softly at her annoyance.
Idle conversations flowed between the two of us before we were politely interrupted by a waiter handing over two menus. “What are you having.” I asked her. “A chicken Cesar salad. You?- Oh and I’m paying by the way… you bought me things yesterday.” She stated. “There’s no need really.” I answered. “I insist what would you like.” She pushed. “Probably just a grilled cheese.” I said. “No. Don’t think I don’t know that’s the cheapest thing here, get what you want sweetheart.” My pulse skipped then ran faster at her new term of endearment, I felt like I was melting from the inside out. “Fine I’ll just have the same as you please.” I settled, displaying a shy smile. I didn’t care about the food really, I don’t plan on letting her see me as a naive and difficult thing who can’t pay for myself or play her as a fool, I guess that’s just what happens when you’re completely independent for a long period of time. “Are you sure? you can have anything.” She asked again. “Positive, thank you.” Larissa waved over the previous waiter and ordered for the both of us, we ate once our meals arrived and sat in comfortable silence.
Larissa did in fact pay, she left no room for argument and we both walked out together into the fresh, crisp air and warm sun. “Do you need to go back just yet?” She asked. “No I think having a break over half an hour would be fine considering how much overtime I do that I don’t get payed for.” I chuckled trying to come off lighthearted, but it sounded more bitter than I intended. “What do you mean? What are your allocated hours?” Larissa stoped the slow pace causing me to walk a little in front and turn around to face her concerns. “Allocated… 7:30 to 5, but I usually get to work around 5 and finish at 7.” I said furrowing my brows. “Why?” I ask. Larissa was silent for a moment. “So your telling me you work 12 to 13 hours every day? When your only supposed to be doing 9 and a half?” She asked incredulously. “Yes.” I said almost immediately realising that wouldn’t seem right or normal to anyone else who doesn’t know what it’s like to do my job. I laughed at her, not in a rude way but at her worry. “How do you do that!? You work almost 70 hours a week!” Her eyes growing widder with the facts she’s coming to know. “I’m fine. I manage.” I simply said turning to walk a bit more for her to follow, at this point there is no destination.
“You look gorgeous today, channel right?” I asked, pulling my hand out of my pocket to point at her outfit, a ploy for a change of subject. “Yes, thank you. How did you know that?” She asked. “Just like I know your heels are louboutins, your watch is Valentino, your bracelet it Cartier and your broach is probably the hardest to guess I’m not quite sure about that one, but I know your necklace is personally made. Oh and your pearl earrings are vintage Tiffany & co.” I stated proudly hoping I wasn’t wrong. “You continue to surprise me Violet. First your this strong independent woman who can build an entire house and the interior with you bare hands and now your a fashion expert, what else don’t I know?” She said with an amuse smile. “There is a lot you don’t know about me Larissa, but what ls the fun in letting you in on all my secrets just yet? Who knows, I could be very boring.” I giggled. She shook her head gently and placed her gloved hand on my arm. “You are the most interesting person I’ve been around for quite some time darling, I don’t believe you could ever be a bore.” At that i blushed furiously letting out a foggy exhale.
Larissa was the epitome of ethereal, the way her eyes look so piercing in the sunlight almost as if they were so blue they could be mistaken for white, her porcelain skin illuminated as well as her platinum hair. Right now her nose and cheeks are flushed red and her lips displaying the same shade she had painted on herself, I hoped anyway, their a little swollen due to the cold. “Hey, can I ask you a random question?” I asked timidly hoping it’s not to weird. “Of course you can.” She said. “Do you…ahhh, do you have…someone, like-.” I struggled to spit it out. “A girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife, partner?… no sweetheart.” She continued on, laughing at my shy state. “Right… that what I was trying to say, and how is that, wouldn’t you have plenty of people lined up for you? surely.” I exaggerated. “So your a flatterer to I see.” She gasped feigning herself from being to serious.
About two seconds later Larissa looked away and her attention was taken by the front of the Jericho book shop and Library, she moved so quickly to snatch my wrist and drag me in the direction of the entrance. “Woah, you could have just asked me to come with you.” I just about snorted. “I’m sorry come on I haven’t been in her for ages, please!” The sparkle in her eyes showing unwavering hope. “Of course I’ll come I love books to ya know.” I grinned. “Well that’s another thing I just learned about you.” She said holding the door open for me.
It was so warm and cozy inside, the smell of a vanilla candle that was placed next to the register and the scent of paper was almost nostalgic, I hadn’t been in here for a while either. Larissa ended up in-front of me and I don’t think she realised she held out her hand behind her for me to take. After mild contemplation I took it, Larissa immediately tightened her grip, pulling me along with her to a section she clearly has been down before. She let go of my hand a crouched to the wooden floor removing her gloves again so she could feel the spines of the books.
Larissa was in her element, completely enraptured in her own world. I let her be and scanned the shelves above her, taking an interest to one that was a royal blue colour with gold embossed lettering, I placed my palm on her shoulder to stabilise myself and stood on my tip toes to reach it, admiring for a moment before I could read the blurb, Larissa gasped in excitement. “Yes, I found it!” She exclaimed. “What is it?” I asked. “I hid this book almost a year ago because I didn’t want to buy it at the time.” She said looking up at me. ‘she’s so bloody adorable.’
I helped her off the floor and we moved back to the register. “So what do you have?” She asked. “Um I think it’s a book of poetry, I flicked through it and read one, I like it.” I said. “You should read me one.” She smiled. Before I could respond a little lady with grey hair and a long green cardigan came walking behind the counter from what I assumed was the ‘back’. “Oh Larissa! How are you dear!?” She said surprised. “Francis! I’m well how are you?” She responded, it would be silly to think they weren’t aquatinted. “I’m doing ok, finally got that hip replacement back in may, working like I’m a teenager again.” She said. I quietly chuckled. “That’s wonderful.” Larissa replied placing her book on the counter. “And who’s this lovely lady with you?” She asked. “Oh forgive me, violet this is Francis, fran, this is violet, she’s making the new classroom cupboards for nevermore.” Larissa was almost proud to be able to introduce you to someone. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” I said holding out my hand for her to shake, instead she took ahold of my palm with one hand and placed her other on top. “Like wise dear. Your a hard worker I see.” She stated observing my hand. “Thank you?” I said unsure of how to respond.
Larissa stood to the side waiting for me to pay for my own book. “Oh this one’s good, perhaps you can read some to your girlfriend over there.” Francis said talking about the book and Larissa. My eyes were just about bulging out of my head at her words, I was rendered speechless. “Hush now Fran! I see your still cheeky as ever.” Larissa hissed. The elderly lady chortled at her with a shit eating grin. “Don’t you forget it. When you get old you tend not to hold your tongue.” She initially spoke to larissa than back to me. All I could do was stand there awkwardly, but praise her for not giving a fuck, I like her.
We exited the shop bidding the woman farewell and set off to back to our cars. “Sorry about that, I’ve known Francis since I was 14, she can be very brazen sometimes.” She said. “Don’t worry about it shes cute and hilarious… so you went to nevermore when you were at school?” I asked. “Yes, every weekend I’d go to the library part of the shop and sit for hours, than we’d exchange opinions on the books I’d read over a cup of tea.” She expressed clutching the book tighter to her chest. “That’s so sweet, I wish my childhood was that simple, I would have loved to have the freedom to Sit and read until I was to exhausted.” I said. “Well it wasn’t all that easy but I didn’t have to many friends to mingle with I suppose.” I felt a tinge of sadness at her confession, understanding what she means. “Nor did I, but I guess that’s why it’s so important to you now as headmistress right? To ensure all the kids are happy and safe?” I wondered. “Exactly.” She said pulling out her car keys while I simultaneously did the same. We both hit the unlock button to find we were parked right next to each other.
To our surprise we both had the same car, except hers was red. “Nice car.” I said. “Like wise.” She laughed. “Well I suppose this is goodbye.” Larissa said looking at me slightly saddened at the fact. “I suppose it is.” I retorted. Larissa stood peering into my eyes, her expression turned confused. “What?” I asked. “Your eyes…they’ve changed colour, I thought that yesterday, but now I’m sure.” She said hoping she didn’t sound to insane. “Yeah they do that, I don’t really know why, they go from blue, green, grey to blue grey to green blue, it’s weird but I find that when I’m tired my eyes are really blue and when I’m happy or focused they’re really green, almost like a mood ring.” I laughed. Larissa own eyes flickered between my own causing me to become short of breath. “It’s very interesting, very unique.” She said. “What are they now?” I whispered, Larissa seemed to be closer than I thought. “Green on the outside with a little bit of blue in the centre.” She matched my tone of voice. Closing my eyes I took a deep breath and tilted my head down before exhaling and returning the gaze.
“So when will I see you again? Apart from the obvious work reasons.” I asked. “Would Friday night be ok, I could take you out for dinner?… if your not interested then that’s ok we could-.” Yes yes yes yes yes. “No! I’d love to just text me with plans yeah?” I wished I didn’t seem to overzealous. “Really? Alright than I will see you Friday.” She said. “Of course I’ll see you than.” And only than I did something I wish I could take back, something so stupid, so unprofessional. I leaned in a little closer and kissed her cheek, not like it was hard or strained, not even a millisecond went by for me to not look at her after, I all but ran to my car and shoved the keys into the ignition and turned it on ripping the gear stick into reverse to get the hell out of there. I did spare her a glance and and idiotic wave before practically speeding away.
Larissa stood there on the footpath shocked, blushing like one of her students, she returned the wave and set to get in her own vehicle. Sitting in the drivers seat hands clamped to the steering wheel, she let out a chesty giggle and a smile reaching her eyes. It was Larissa’s turn to feel like a giddy little girl. On her way back go nevermore I was the only thing on Larissa’s mind, by the time she arrived through the gates it was just after 2 pm, she would spend the rest of the day in a haze hardly concentrating.
Later that night she dragged a chair in front of her fireplace with a blanket adorned over her lap with her new book in hand and a glass of wine placed on the floor next to her, a relaxing evening to go along with an eventful afternoon. I was much the same, unlike the previous night I had enough energy to make something for dinner while standing in the kitchen with my own book, reading passages from it whilst stirring the food on the stove.
the eyes
are portals to
different worlds
this is why
we shut them in
beautiful moments.
Let’s just say both of our dreams that night were of each other and the next morning consisted of thoughts for Fridays dinner.

Just wait for the dinner;)

Steddie Week 2023
May 27th Prompt: True
Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 7
@steddie-week
“True.”
It’s something they had started a while ago, when Eddie had first awakened in the hospital after an unsure week. He hadn’t remembered much, what he did remember was jumbled around, and half the time the only parts he could voice were random phrases.
Steve had begun answering in one of two words: true or false. Eddie’s face told him if he wanted clarification, but for the most part he was content with just knowing what was true.
Now, it had settled into their daily vernacular. Sometimes it’s something silly, sometimes it’s something a bit heavier.
But always, always, they tell each other the truth.
“Grape’s better than cherry,” Steve says, grinning, teasing, holding up his drink.
Eddie makes a face. “False.”
Steve laughs, takes a swig. No matter what Eddie says, they both have both flavors in their fridges, and Steve doesn’t see that changing anytime soon.
“You hate Hawkins,” he says suddenly.
Eddie looks steadily at him. “True,” he says quietly.
“You want to leave.”
Eddie closes his eyes. “True.” He takes a breath. “You’re staying. For the kids.”
I’d come if you asked, Steve thinks, but says, “True.”
“You won’t miss me.”
Steve locks eyes with Eddie. “False,” he says, choking on the sincerity.
Eddie’s eyebrows furrow. He jokes weakly, “You’re trying to make this harder for me.”
Steve can’t joke, doesn’t answer, just looks away and takes another drink. Hopes it’ll stave off the tears in his eyes. “I should go,” he finally says. “It’s getting late, I’ve got a shift-”
“False,” Eddie interrupts, hand latching on to Steve’s wrist. “Robin was complaining today about having to open tomorrow. Steve?”
Steve doesn’t look at him. Can’t. “What do you want me to say? That I don’t want you to go? That I’d never stop you from leaving? That I’d follow if you asked?”
“And what am I supposed to do?” Eddie whispers back. “Because you know I’d never tear you from the kids. You know the town hates me. You know leaving you, leaving the kids, is gonna tear me apart. But the town might literally tear me apart if I don’t leave.”
“We’re doomed,” Steve says softly.
“True,” Eddie says sadly, tugs gently on Steve’s wrist. “But maybe not tonight.”
Steve looks at Eddie. Smiles through his tears. “True,” he agrees, and lets himself lean in. Lets himself have what he never dreamed he could, if only for a night.
The next morning, Eddie smiles at Steve. “Fuck the town,” he says quietly. “Ask me to stay.”
Steve’s eyes light up with barely-repressed hope. “You’ll stay? For me?”
“True,” Eddie whispers, and leans in.

If I Rescue You, Will You Rescue Me, Too? Part 12
Woohoo!! I managed to get it done today. Again no promises on tomorrow, but it’s coming along great. I think I have another couple chapters to go, but I’m not sure exactly how many yet.
RIP Eddie’s poor little mind.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3  Part 4 Part 5  Part 6  Part 7  Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11
*
Eddie leaned into the mic and said, “This is for Chrissy and the victims of Hawkins.”
He sat down on the stool and Kirk gave him a thumbs up and then ran to stand next to Steve.
“Just how good is your friend here?” Kirk yelled for Steve to hear.
Steve just grinned.
Then Eddie started the opening chords. It started slow and then gradually ramped it up.
Steve started to bob his head. This was even more incredible than Eddie’s performance in the Upside Down because he had the bass and rhythm guitar to back him when he started. Then the drums hit and Eddie was in his element.
Steve hadn’t seen how hard he went to town on his guitar that day. But Dustin had. He had told Steve that it was the most metal thing he had ever seen. Watching Eddie now, wounded and hurting, putting all his fear and anger into that song, he could believe it.
Kirk looked over at Steve and raised an eyebrow. Steve smirked. It was only going to get better.
Eddie hit the solo and Kirk’s jaw dropped. Steve could see Eddie raise from the stool to standing. He was shredding away and the crowd was eating it up.
Steve let out a piercing whistle and Eddie smiled.
When the song finally came to an end, the roar of the crowd was deafening.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, Eddie Munson!” James screamed into the microphone.
The crowd lost their god damn minds.
Kirk came back out and got the crowd cheering again. “I’m worried for my job,” he said getting a laugh from the audience.
“You can keep it for now,” Eddie said with a grin. “I’ve got my own band.”
The crowd oohed and stomped their feet.
James looked over at him. “So what your saying is not get to comfortable or your band will come for us?”
Eddie laughed excitedly. “That’s the plan, man.”
“Let’s hear it again for Eddie Munson!” Kirk roared into his microphone.
The crowd cheered. Eddie reluctantly handed back the guitar and went back to stand next to Steve.
“I’m not sure if I want to kill you or kiss you right now!” Eddie growled into Steve’s ear.
Steve laughed. “It’s not over with yet!”
Eddie gave him the side eye but turned his direction back to the concert. The rest of the concert was a smashing hit and Eddie loved every second of it.
Afterwards they had pictures taken with the band and Ozzy Osbourne who was well on his way to be sloshed as fuck. But he managed to stay upright for the photos.
Eddie could feel the adrenaline pulsing through his veins and was on top of the world. He was sure that he was the highest he could possibly go.
Until someone came up to Eddie and handed him the guitar he had used on stage. Signed by all the members of Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne.
“Holy shit!” Eddie said looking down at the instrument in his hands. “Thanks, guys. Thank you so much.”
Lars patted him on the back. “When we were told that you lost yours in the earthquake, we knew that we had to do something for you to replace it. We know it’ll never be your sweetheart.”
“But we hope it’ll carry you to wherever you decide to go,” James agreed.
Kirk put a hand on his shoulder. “When Corroded Coffin gets famous, hit us up for a tour, yeah?”
Eddie nodded, too afraid to speak or he’d start crying.
“They absolutely will,” Steve said confidently.
They stayed for a couple of drinks with the band before they set off again for the hotel.
By the time they got back, Eddie was swaying on his feet, still clutching that guitar to his chest. Steve had been given a soft case to keep it protected on the way home, but he didn’t think Eddie would let go of it long enough to use it.
Once they got up to the hotel, Steve gently maneuvered Eddie over to the couch and sat him down.
Eddie looked up at Steve, tears threatening to fall. “Stevie...”
“Hi, there, beautiful,” Steve said, kneeling in front of him.
“This was too much,” he insisted.
Steve shook his head. “Nuh-uh, do you remember what I told you?”
“That it was the perfect amount of awesome for me?” Eddie whispered.
“That’s right, sunshine,” Steve murmured. “You didn’t deserve to be pulled into the Upside Down because you wanted to you wanted to go to a concert and selling drugs was your only option. You didn’t deserve to be dragged into hell because you saw a girl who needed help and did you best.” He rubbed Eddie’s thighs reassuringly. “This was something we could do for you because the nightmares are going to come if they haven’t already. Because you’ll jump at strange noises, because the sound of something snapping will bring it all back. But you didn’t deserve that, sunshine. Any of it.”
Eddie set the guitar down for the first time and brought Steve’s face up to meet his. They kissed softly. “Thank you, sweetheart,” he breathed.
“You’re welcome, Eds.” Steve stood back up and held out his hand to Eddie. “Come on, let’s go get that bath, babe.”
*
They both laid in the tub, Eddie with his back, pressed against Steve’s chest.
“Hmm...” Eddie purred as the jets massaged away the tension that had built up from the excitement. “I’ve decided when I get rich and famous, I’m going to have one of these in every bathroom I own.”
Steve’s chuckle rumbled against Eddie’s back. “Yeah, this is nice. The company is better though.”
Eddie splashed him gently. “Softy.”
Steve kissed the top of Eddie’s head. “Only for you, sunshine.” He looked down. “You want me to wash your hair?”
Eddie just hummed again, which Steve took as a yes. He had put the soap and things nearby because he worried Eddie might fall asleep in the bath. It was the most intimate Steve had ever been with anyone. It was a rush. He thought sex was height of intimacy but this? This topped sex.
He washed Eddie’s hair and then ran conditioner through it. He massaged Eddie’s scalp, and Eddie let his head droop lazily against Steve’s shoulder.
“Feels good, sunshine?” Steve asked into Eddie ear.
Eddie hummed happily. “So good.”
After Steve had worked in the conditioner, he grabbed the pitcher that he filled with warm water and gently poured it over it Eddie’s head, rinsing out the suds.
Steve scrunched his hair in his fingers to make sure that all the conditioner was out.
“You ready to get out or did you want to stay a little longer?”
Eddie rolled a little into Steve’s arms. “Just a little longer. This is so good.”
“Okay, babe,” Steve murmured.
*
They woke up the next morning snuggling together in the king size bed. Steve woke first. He looked down at the boy in his arms and smiled. This weekend had turned out even better than he even dreamed. At best they would be heading back to Hawkins full of potential of something new. At worst, Eddie turned him down and they would have an awkward ride back. But having waking up the second day in a row in each other’s arms? Steve’s imagination wasn’t that good.
Eddie stirred. “I can hear you thinking from here, babe. Go back to sleep.”
Steve huffed out a laugh. “Whatever you say, love.”
They snuggled closer and drifted back to sleep.
Eddie woke up first the second time. He had been so sure that last night had been a dream, but he was lying in Steve’s arms and from here he could see the guitar on the sofa reminding him that no, it hadn’t been a dream. This was his life now.
Once they were fully awake they decided to skip breakfast and just stop for lunch on the way back. They packed up all their stuff, plus all the loot they had gotten last night. In addition to the guitar Metallica had gotten Eddie, they also gave Eddie and Steve goody bags filled with band merch. T-shirts, posters, tour pins. It was quite the haul. They packed the car, the new stuff going on the backseat.
Eddie wanted the guitar up front with him but he couldn’t get it to fit safely, so he was forced to put it on the backseat with the rest of it. He looked back at in longing before he face forward, allowing Steve to drive away.
*
They merely bought some fast food and ate in the car. But it was Steve and not Eddie that insisted they stay near the guitar.
“I think it’ll be okay for twenty minutes, sweetheart,” Eddie said when they stopped.
Steve shook his head. “Things have been going so well this weekend it would be just my luck that something happens the second I look away. Nope. Can’t do it.”
Eddie chuckled and pulled him close. “If it’ll put your mind at ease, babe, then we’ll eat in the car.”
Steve’s shoulders sagged with relief. This had been a first test of sorts, if Eddie could handle Steve’s little anxieties. And he had passed. At least this time.
Steve banished that thought. He wasn’t going to sabotage this relationship before it even got off the ground.
Eddie pulled his arms around his waist and held him tightly. “Just breathe, Stevie. You’re okay.”
Steve let out a shuddering breath. “Sometimes it becomes too much.”
“I’d be more concerned if it didn’t, sweetheart,” Eddie murmured into Steve’s hair. “You have been fighting an unseen, unsung battle for years. And even though Vecna’s dead and his hold on the Upside Down is destroyed, there is still a chance that something else might happen. That could be tomorrow. Next week, next month. But maybe not for decades and you’d have no way of knowing. It’s okay to freak out about little things. Because you can control those, yeah?
Steve nodded.
“So why don’t I go grab us something to eat,” he continued. “And I’ll be right back. Then you can keep an eye on our stuff, while I’m gone?”
Steve let out another shuddering breath, this one seemed to dislodge whatever fear he had bottled up inside him. “Yeah. I can do that.”
Eddie was in and out in no time at all and they sat happily munching on their greasy burgers and slurping their sodas. Slowly Eddie got Steve laughing and relaxing.
Once they were done with their food they through away the garbage and made the last leg of their journey to Hawkins.
They needed to go to the hospital and see Dr Hathaway, but they stopped by Eddie and Wayne’s new house first.
They dropped off all of Eddie’s things and put Steve’s loot in the trunk. And once he had successfully done that, Steve breathed a sigh of relief.
Eddie gave his shoulder a squeeze in support. And then piled back into the car for the drive to the hospital. Steve had called them from the house and let them know they were on their way.

Thank you all again and I hope you enjoy chapter 3!!!
3. Paper Rings
Jax stood with his arms crossed, and a frown printed on his face. Caine had called everyone for the last adventure of the day and Jax already wanted to be finished with it. Ever since his revelation earlier about how he felt about Pomni, his mind had turned into a storming whirlpool. He tried to think of anything else, pranks, centipedes, the existential dread that he was stuck here forever – it might be morbid but it was something at least -, kicking leftover gloinks, breaking Gangle’s comedy mask, Pomni-Pomni-Pomni-Pomni-Pomni…
“Thank you all for coming!” Caine’s abnormally loud voice from him from his daze, thankfully. “I understand that you’ve all been working hard all day with the adventures I’ve given you, but fear not, I have one more and you can all retire for the night!”
“Do we really have to?” Zooble muttered, “Can’t this wait till tomorrow? I’ve got better things to do.”
“I agree,” Gangle whispered, “I wanted to try and fix my comedy mask…again.”
“Don’t you worry Zooble and Gangle, you darling multi-shaped freaks!” Caine bellowed, “This adventure is only for two, so you don’t need to worry about joining anything. I just wanted to gather all of you to see them off before the most exhilarating voyage of a lifetime!”
“Well, whoever it is, I’m glad they’ve got this opportunity to do so,” Ragatha smiled, “It’ll be nice to hear about it when they finish it.”
“Even if it includes insects!” Kinger interjected, “That’s very important.”
“I mean, its just one more adventure,” Pomni shrugged, “I guess it wouldn’t hurt.”
Caine gasped dramatically, finally, their new little jester was starting to get the hang of it here. “That’s great to hear Pomni, for you and Jax are going to be paired up for this glorious crusade!”
Said jester and rabbit’s faces blanched, they were still barely processing their sudden dreams two nights in a row and still weren’t able to get today’s earlier events out of their heads! Not only that, the two were still trying to process their sudden budding feelings with one another, now Caine wanted them to pair up?! Could they not have five minutes of temporary sanity before being shoved into another bizarre situation?!
“Woah, woah, hold up there, dentures!” Jax stepped forward.
“I really don’t think-” Pomni was about to continue before Caine interrupted.
“Now, now you two!” Caine waved his finger, “No need to be so shy! By the end of this adventure, you two will be closer than ever! Just think of it as team building, especially for you Jax, I don’t think I’ve seen you be close with anyone other than-”
“Don’t,” Jax bit out, making the AI go silent. A small whimper was heard, everyone turned to look at Kinger, the chest piece was clutching his cloak tighter to himself, trying to look as small as possible.
“I…I believe we should continue on with the details of your adventure!”  Caine spluttered, wanting to change the subject as quickly as he could, “After all, there’s no reason to think of the past! Since there’s no ‘past’ for any of you to go back to.”
Pomni’s eyes darted from Caine to Kinger and Jax, curiosity began to bite at her. What happened to make everyone react like that? While she was still learning about the past performers here, she still didn’t know everything. Was there someone that Jax genuinely liked here? Did they abstract like Kaufmo as well? She remembered her first day here, the first time seeing an abstraction. If she didn’t arrive would Kaufmo still be okay? He probably had a family before this realm as well, and now any chance of seeing them again was taken from him.
“Now about your adventure! Both Jax and Pomni have to venture through the winding maze! It will be grovelling, it will be exhausting, it will leave you both wondering when this madness will end! But hey, you will end up the best of buddies the time it’s over, you might even wish you’d have stayed!”
Pomni blinked her brainstorm away, she nearly forgot about the adventure!
“Good luck, and we’ll see you both in the morning!” Before Pomni could ask him what he meant, Caine snapped his fingers and the rest of the tent disappeared before her eyes.
The ground felt different underneath her feet, looking down she realized that she was standing on some sort of pixelated grass. She lifted her head to take in the rest of her surroundings, two tall hedges standing on each side of her.
“Well, this is fantastic,” a sarcastic voice drawled. Oh, right, she was stuck with Jax until this was over, “Thank you so much Caine, this is exactly what I wanted.”
“It’s fine, this is fine!” she didn’t know if she was saying this to both of them or just to herself, “It’s just a maze with long winding paths and tall bushes that you can’t see out of and hey what was that Caine said about this madness not ending!?” She was spiralling, she knew that, but in her defence…it was Pomni. “Oh god! How long are we gonna be in here until we find an exit?! What if we don’t find an exit?!”
“Easy, Pom-Pom,” Jax rolled his eyes, “Caine would lose his entertainment if he kept us in here, now come on, I wanna get out of here as soon as possible.” He started walking a few steps, only to pause when he realised that Pomni wasn’t beside him. He let out a groan when he saw that she was still stuck in the same spot, her red and blue eyes replaced with dark swirls that only appeared when she was too caught up in her mind. He went back over and tapped the back of his hand against her cheek, causing her to gasp and jump. “Come on, the last thing we need is you delaying us because you’re too busy panicking.”
Pomni scoffed, that was unnecessary, “It’s not like I can control my panic attacks, unlike you, you actually choose to be a jerk.”
Jax froze, a smirk curling on his lips. Now this was an interesting development, “Well, well. Looks like the new cat on the block finally found her claws.”
Pomni rolled her eyes, she forgot that Jax could be incredibly annoying, “Let’s just try and find an exit.”
“Whatever you say Pom-pom,” Jax’s smirk fell, returning to his prior grimace as the two continued down the maze.
Their suspicions were corrected when guessing that this maze would last more than a while, each corner they turned was a dead end, each path seemed to lead them back to where they started and when they looked back it seemed like the area where they just were had been blocked off. They didn’t know how long they had been walking, minutes, hours? All they knew was that their feet were aching and that they desperately wanted to leave. Jax was starting to lose his patience. If he were stuck here with anyone else he would have tried to run as far away from them as he could. But for some reason, he had some sort of soft spot for Pomni and he couldn’t stand it. It made things much more frustratingly difficult for him, such as not bearing to leave her behind.
It wasn’t until she tripped for the umpteenth time did he start to lose his patience, he picked her up by the back of her collar, holding her at eye level. He had to bite back a laugh, she really did look like a cat this way, a miserable wet one at that. “I don’t think Zooble has fallen over as much as you have,” he said, “At least he has a reason to be so clumsy.”
“Oh really? And what’s your reason for being such an @SShole?” she challenged him, crossing her arms over her chest, “Or were you just born that way?”
Jax let out a slow breath, dropping Pomni into her feet again, watching her stumble as she regained her balance, “You’re right, I don’t have a reason, as long as I’m watching funny things happen to others I don’t really care.”
“Well that’s definitely a sad way to live,” Pomni mumbled, taking a few steps ahead of him.
“Its better than looking for an exit that isn’t there,” Jax retorted, “I mean, its pretty sad when you think about it."
“At least I didn’t leave you with an abstraction,” Pomni quipped, “Thanks a lot for that! It was so much fun for my first day here. Not!”
“Oh you’re so welcome,” Jax gave her a shit-eating grin, “Always great for the newbie to be traumatized on her first day, it gives ya a great taste of what else is coming.”
Pomni glared at him, oh he was having too much fun with her, “You know Ragatha got really hurt because of you? You could’ve tried to help get Caine but you just ran off to who knows where. Then when I tried to help her my hand started glitching, we could have both died!”
“But you didn’t,” he replied, placing a hand on his hip, “This isn’t my first rodeo with something like this, you would’ve been fine.”
“That doesn’t mean I wasn’t freaked out by it!” Pomni grit her teeth, “Like you said, I’m new, how was I supposed to know that it was gonna be fine?!”
“Look just lay off it already?!” Jax fumed.
“Right, cause nearly getting devoured by a glitchy monstrosity is so easy to forget about,” Pomni walked past him. “God you’re such a pain.”
Jax grumbled under his breath, “What do you want, an apology? That’s not something I do sweetie.”
Pomni growled, whipping back round to face him, “Okay, what is with you?! You say you don’t have a reason to care, yet you defended me earlier today when Caine was yelling at me! What the h%ll was that about?!”
Jax inhaled deeply, now she was starting to get on his nerves, but he seemed to be doing the same to her so at least he had some sort of equal footing, “Like I said, I didn’t want Bubble to destroy the carnival, there’s no deeper meaning.”
“And I don’t believe you,” Pomni frowned, “Otherwise you wouldn’t react that way earlier when Caine was talking about you being close with someone.”
Jax flinched, he spoke in a low tone, “That’s deep water you’re treading there, sweetie. I’d recommend for you to stop while you’re ahead.” He shoved past her, ignoring her scoff.
“At least I’m trying to leave!” she stated, “If I can find a way to do that then I can help the others get out of here too! What have you done other than be a d*)k to everyone here?!”
“You really wanna know Pomni?!” he yelled, turning back and stomping over to her, “I have tried to get out! I’ve tried to collect every single key here and yet none of them has opened an exit! Do you know how it feels, to watch everyone else here slowly give up on finding a way out?! You haven’t been here as long as I have! You haven’t seen what I’ve seen! And it hurts to have everyone tell you that it’s pointless in trying to leave, trying to find a way back to a life you don’t remember! So yes, I’m awful and I shouldn’t act this way! I get it! You don’t think I hate it too?! But for some reason when I’m with you I just-!”
He froze, catching himself before he fell off the edge. Pomni’s eyes were wide and cautious, great, he was scaring her off. This should be a good thing, he wouldn’t have to deal with these stupid butterflies anymore, so why did he feel so upset about it? But instead of her yelling at him to leave her alone, all she said was, “I’m sorry that you went through that, but don’t ever speak to me like that again.” A tear fell from her eye, “And maybe it is pointless for me to find an exit like how you tried to as well, but I wanna go back to a world and see what it can offer me rather than live in a place surrounded by fear and void. Even if the life I had before was bad, at least I’ll know that I’m able to change it into something else…I feel sorry for you Jax, I really do.”
With that, she finally walked away, slowly enough for him to catch up but enough for her to leave some distance between them. He shouldn’t care, he doesn’t care, he won’t care. But, just looking at her, seeing the disappointment in her eyes. There was just no denying the raw heartache he felt after hearing those words from her. He really did fall for her, didn’t he? And he probably messed this up too, just like…no, he doesn’t need to think about that event, not anymore.
The next hour of walking was nothing but awkward filled silence. The whole time, the two just wanted to say something, anything to the other, but the words just couldn’t come to mind, and they were just getting too exhausted to keep going. Though there was no indication of night and day here, the way that their eyes kept drooping and the struggle to keep going was starting to overcome their senses.
“We-um,” Pomni stuttered, Jax’s heart fluttered a bit, was he happy at the fact that she finally said something? “We should probably try and get some sleep. It isn’t a good idea to keep going like this.”
“Yeah, we…we should,” Jax nodded, “It’ll stop you from constantly tripping over your feet, eh?” He meant for it to be a joke, but she didn’t react other than a simple hum, he could understand why though.
They walked over to one of the hedges, sitting and leaning against the back of it. It wasn’t the best bed but there wasn’t anything else that they could do. Pomni shuffled away from him, to give Jax some room. “Well, night,” she said softly.
“It’s not able to be night here,” Jax spoke, “But I get what you mean.”
Like that, they turned away from each other, shutting their eyes. Neither of them aware that they were wondering what their dream would be about tonight.

The coffee table in Amber’s living room was scattered with treats. From the remains of gingerbread men and houses to chocolate chip and sugar cookies, even some sweet mince pies, two mugs of hot chocolate and a can of whipped cream on the side. It definitely wasn’t a healthy breakfast, but this sugary calamity was something special Penny liked to share with her mother since she started homeschooling. When things started to turn around for her, Amber made sure that every single aspect of her life was, while not perfect, something for Penny to look forward to. And thus, dessert for breakfast on Christmas morning was born.
Amber and Penny were lazing on the couch, the TV in front of them playing ‘The Grinch’ while the two stuffed themselves to their hearts content. Amber had squirted some whipped cream into her mouth before automatically doing the same with Penny, not even taking her eyes off the TV to know that her daughter had opened her mouth for some. After placing the can back onto the table, she and Penny leaned back into the cushions, with Amber wrapping her arms around her youngest daughter and holding her close. “I feel like at some point we’re going to become the couch if we keep doing this each year,” Penny giggled.
“Honey, we already have,” Amber smiled, pressing a kiss to Penny’s hair, “We are couch people and always will be couch people. I still can’t believe you used to be scared of this movie when you were a kid.”
“That was until I discovered the magic that was Jim Carrey’s comedic line delivery,” Penny replied, “The man’s a legend.”
“He really is, and you will be too my little costuming star!” Amber nuzzled her daughter’s nose with her nose, laughing at Penny’s groans.
“Mom!” Penny buried her head into Amber’s shoulder, “Stop!” She didn’t mean it and Amber knew that.
“I can’t help it if my daughter is amazingly talented,” Amber grinned, loosening up a bit as she peered down to look at Penny’s face. “You know, you seem a little different after that date with Jack at the Christmas fair.”
“I-what-mom!” Penny spluttered, her face as red as a tomato, “It was not a date!”
“Mmhmm,” Amber was not convinced in the slightest, “Baby, I’m old enough and wise enough to realise what a date looks like.”
“Mom…you, wise?” Penny stated.
“Ah, ah, I’m not finished,” Amber waved a finger in front of her face, “Trust me when I say this, I’ve been watching your sister fall in love with Winter and I’ve seen how they act around each other. You know when they first met it was over carrot cake?”
“Yeah, I’ve heard this story before,” Penny smiled, “There were having lunch at work and Winter got carrot cake because it was her favourite while Riley hated it.”
“And the two debated the whole day about cake flavours that they ended up becoming friends,” Amber continued, “And every time they saw each other Riley always brought Winter carrot cake.”
“What does this have to do with Jack?” Penny asked.
“I’ve seen the way Riley looks at Winter,” Amber told her, “She looks at her as though if she was the only thing that matters in the world. She could be surrounded by all the treasures in the world but she would still choose Winter. I saw how that boy looked at you before he left, in a room full of riches he would choose you.”
Penny blushed, thinking back to Jack kissing her cheek. The way he looked at her back then, it filled her stomach with butterflies and her heart thump hard. She never felt this way about anyone before, but the way he would smile at her, send her winks and always make her feel safe, it was hard not to fall for him. The only question was, did he feel the same way back? Sure he kissed her back but that was only on the forehead, what if it was a friendly kiss? What if she makes him feel awkward once she tells him how she feels? What if he wants nothing to do with her anymore?
“Penny, hey, it’s okay,” Amber pushed her daughter’s hair away from her eyes, taking her cheeks into her hands, “I can hear the cogs in your brain turning, but trust me when I say this, your dad has never looked at me the way Jack looks at you.”
Penny bit her lip, she knew that though her mother loved David in the past, he had hurt and betrayed her in many ways too. It was why they had these sugary breakfasts for Christmas, little things like that as a way for Amber to show how sorry she was for what David did to them. If there was a way Penny could show her that she wasn’t at fault, that she forgave her for everything that happened, that it was David who should be at fault for always gaslighting and manipulating Amber into thinking he was still the same man she married, but he was nothing of the sort.
“Mom,” Penny snuggled further into her mother, providing her with the comfort she needed.
“It’s okay baby, I’ve made my peace with it,” Amber held her tighter, “My only regret is that I didn’t realise he was this way before we were married. He gave me false hope and promises, love-bombed me until I could only see the world in rose tinted glasses and by the time I could finally get them off, he got you into that car crash. Jack isn’t like that. I’ve met him a few times while Winter and Riley were dating, and while he didn’t fully introduce himself, Winter’s mom always spoke about him. What I know of him is that while he’s scared and has been hurt many times before, unlike David, he wants to get better not just for his family, but for himself too. That’s more than David has ever done for me or for us.”
“Hey,” Penny turned her head to look up at her mother, “David fucked us all up. And yes, I’m still really scared with giving others a chance, but you’re one of the reasons why I’m able to get help. You were there for me every single step of my recovery and made sure that I was safe and happy. Parenting is a two-person job and not only did you have to do most of it on your own, but you also had two kids under your belt and raised us no matter what was thrown at you. Even if you didn’t leave David before the crash, you helped shield Riley and I as much as you could so that we had a good childhood. Don’t let your shitty ex-husband make you blame yourself for being a great mom.”
“Oh, babygirl, how did I get so lucky with you and your sister,” Amber pressed kisses over Penny’s face, her daughter’s nose scrunching up as she giggled. Her mother pulled away, smiling at her again.
“And you really think that…that Jack sees me like how you said?” Penny mumbled.
Amber gave her a look, her brow was raised and mouth was agape, “Honey, the guy wanted to wait for the perfect moment to ask for your number and kissed your forehead under the moonlight, the man is wrapped around your finger and you don’t even know it.” Penny blushed, ducking slightly under the blanket she was in. “Pen, I’d say go for it, only if you want to. You seem so much more yourself around him. But if he breaks your heart, I’m sending Riley after him.”
Penny burst out laughing at that, “Riley would send him to an early grave!”
“I know,” Amber stated matter-of-factly, “And I won’t hesitate to let her do it.”
“Mom no!” Penny snorted, “And you wonder where Riley gets these tendencies from.”
“Good,” Amber grinned, “That means I taught her well.”
Amber couldn’t help but join in on the laughter, just hearing her daughter laugh was enough to help her forget that she had even mentioned or thought about David. Penny was just that important to her. If anything happened to her…no, this was a good moment, there was so reason to think about the inevitable.
Penny’s phone dinged from the coffee table, sobering up from her laugh session, she leaned over to see what notification she got. What she saw made her gasp and nearly drop her phone.
“Winter proposed to Riley!” She squealed to Amber, the older woman immediately leaning over to check the recent news, “And she said yes!”
“Oh my god!” Amber screamed with joy, shaking Penny by the shoulders, “My daughter is getting married, I’m so happy!”
“Mom I know you’re excited too but I’m gonna be sick!” Penny warbled, starting to get dizzy.
“I’m sorry baby but it’s just, aaaahhhhh!” Amber got up from the couch, “I’m just so happy for her! Wait here, I’m gonna get my phone and message your sister!”
Penny giggled at her mother’s antics as she ran out the room, turning away to look at the image on her phone again. Riley and Winter’s faces weren’t in the picture, but what she did see was the Winter was behind the camera, holding Riley’s hand as she showed off her new engagement ring. This was without a doubt going to be an interesting Christmas dinner.

Jack straightened up his tie again, before unfolding it and retying it again as he stared at himself in the mirror. This was the first time he and Penny were having their families together for dinner, and after the kiss from the Christmas fair, he wanted to follow up on that. Penny had taken over his mind and senses to the point that he had to see her in person again.
Winter and her 8-year-old sister Nina stood at the corner watching him, with Nina’s twin Alex still upstairs getting ready. “What’s the retying count at now Nina?” Winter asked.
“49, wait, it just got up to 50,” Nina told her.
Winter whistled cooly, “Jeez, that’s a new record.”
“I can hear you both you know!” Jack called to them, “You guys wanna keep standing there or do I need to give Nina’s new toys to the bogeyman.”
“No!” Nina cried, running away back up to her room to check if her new Christmas presents were still intact.
“You don’t need to keep worrying,” Winter walked up to him, shoving his hands away and took his tie into her own, “You were blushing like a tomato after kissing that girl and she was just the same. Just play your cards right, take it slow and things will work out.” She wrapped the tie into a knot.
“That’s easy for the recently engaged lesbian to say,” Jack pointed out, “Which by the way, congratulations again.”
“Thank you,” Winter grinned.
“I just…I’ve never felt this way about anyone before,” Jack sighed, “I never thought I deserved someone who could make me this happy. Every time she walks into a room I forget how to breath. I can’t mess this up.”
Winter stopped her hands for a moment, “The only way you’re gonna mess things up is if you let those thoughts win. You’ve been doing great and you told each other what happened when you both were kids and she still wants to see you. Just take a breath, let me fix your tie and just let the night lead itself. I didn’t have much of a plan for proposing to Riley other than doing it on Christmas and she still agreed to marry me. Plans are overrated…sometimes, you know what I mean.”
“Yeah,” Jack nodded, “I do.” He took a breath as Winter finally finished his tie, checking himself out in the mirror. He flashed himself a grin, “Still as handsome as always.”
“And he’s back,” Winter rolled her eyes.
“Ooooh!” Both Jack and Winter turned to the sound of teasing voices, looking up to the stairs and seeing Nina and Alex with mischievous grins on their faces while chanting, “Jack has a girlfriend! Jack has a girlfriend!”
“Jack is gonna give all your gifts to the bogeyman!” He retorted, making the two scream and rush downstairs into the living room.
Meanwhile, Riley was busy helping carry the plates and cutlery to the table making sure everything was carefully placed on the Christmas-snowflake themed tablemats. Winter’s mother, Laura, came in carrying a hot plate of steamed vegetables, focusing on her attention on the food to make sure it wouldn’t fall before Riley came over to take it from her. “Here, Mrs Alvarez,” she said, “Let me.”
“Oh Riley there’s no need,” Laura patted her back, “I just wanted you to relax with Winter, let me and Marcus manage it.”
“I’m going to become part of your family soon. Please, allow me,” Riley persisted, placing down the pot near the centre of the table.
“Oh you’re a good girl Riley,” Laura took Riley’s hand into hers, “It’s no wonder Winter fell in love with you.”
“Mama!” Winter flushed, entering the dining room with Jack hot on her heels, “Please save the embarrassing stuff for the wedding!”
“No Laura continue,” Jack grinned, “This is karma for teasing me about Penny.”
“Oh, Penny Reed?” Winter’s father Marcus entered the dining room, his smile wide and his eyes crinkling with joy. “Winter told me so much about your date with her at the fair. Tell me more about her!”
Shit Jack cursed internally, with Winter sending him a smug look. “Well, I-”
“Yes, do go on,” Riley’s firm voice chided him, almost threatening him to not slip up. “Tell us more about my sister Jack.”
And now he had to tread carefully, especially talking about the younger sister of a 6-foot redhead with the experience of breaking the bones of criminals and throwing people over her shoulder. Please let whatever luck he had be on his side during this moment. “W-well she’s kind, funny,” He gulped as Riley squinted at him, he really didn’t want to die tonight, “And she one of the best people I’ve ever met in my entire life…whenever I’m with her, she makes me the happiest I’ve ever been. I just hope that I’m making her happy too.”
Riley softened a bit, did that mean she approved of his answer or thinking of plans ranging from A to Z to murder him?! This woman terrified him to no end!
“Well, she must be pretty special if you think that of her,” Laura beamed, “I can’t wait to officially meet my other daughter-in-law! Now if you excuse me, I need to get the pork out of the oven.”
“Hang on, I’ll help!” Marcus called after his wife as he trailed after her.
That was when the doorbell rang, light and quick on his feet, Jack bounded for the door. He straightened his jacket and tie one more time, cleared his throat rolled back his shoulder, he could do this. With a turn of the knob, the door swung open, revealing Penny glowing under the moonlight. Suddenly, his voice was cut in his throat and his palms were sweating despite the chill rolling in from the open door. The only word he managed to say was, “Hi.”
“Hi,” she shyly replied, her hands tightening on a small gift bag she brought.
He shook his head quickly, letting himself reboot as he turned to Amber, her smirk held nothing but the knowledge of a woman who knew all too well about what the two felt for one another. “Amber,” he greeted, holding out his hand for her to shake, “It’s good to see you again.”
“And you Jack,” Amber returned the handshake, letting him lead her and Penny into the house before shutting the door behind them. “I see you’ve cleaned up well.” It was a normal sentence, but her words told a totally different story.
Oh, she knew, she really knew! He was an open book and Amber had flicked through every single page. “I-I always dress this nice for Christmas, ma’am,” he stammered, “It wouldn’t be formal of me to not look this good for the holidays.”
Amber hummed, sure she believed what he said, but what Jack failed to realise was that Amber noticed his suit was the colour blue – Penny’s favourite colour.
“Hey mom,” Riley made a beeline to her mother, wrapping her arms around her, “I hope walking here wasn’t too bad with the snow,”
“Don’t worry baby, it was fine,” Amber pressed a kiss to her hair before pulling back, “But enough about me, let me see the ring!”
Riley blushed, unable to hide the giddy smile as she held up her hand.
“Oh my god, Riley!” Penny squealed, hugging her older sister. “Winter got you a good one! I’m so happy for you!”
“I know,” Riley laughed, “I’m the luckiest woman in the world.”
“Actually, that would be me,” Winter slid her arms around fiancé’s waist from behind, resting her head on her shoulder, “I’m the one who’s marrying this beautiful woman.”
“Flattery already?” Riley pressed her cheek against Winter’s, “And the marriage hasn’t even begun.”
“Am I not allowed to compliment my soon-to-be-wife?” Winter kissed Riley’s cheek, “Besides, that’s only 20% of my flattery, I’m saving the other 80% for my vows.”
“Dear god,” Riley slapped her palm against her forehead, knowing Winter, she was going to leave Riley as red as a tomato.
Penny stifled a laugh, Jack screamed internally at the sound. How can anyone be this fucking cute?!
“Penny!” Laura came rushing down the hall, her apron stained with some type of sauce, “I’m so happy we can finally meet.”
She opened her arms, ready to bring Penny in for a hug, only for the girl to freeze and back away. Laura faltered, her brows furrowing with concern at Penny’s startled reaction. Winter was quick to step in.
“Mama, remember,” she told her, “Penny is funny with being touched unless it’s by someone she fully knows and trusts or she’s the one going first.”
“Oh goodness,” Laura gasped, “Penny sweetie I’m so sorry I genuinely forgot!”
“It’s fine, really it’s fine,” Penny reassured her, stepping forward, “Honestly I’m able to tell when it’s a simple mistake.”
Jack’s stomach churned, all those years of bullying and her father berating her made Penny so frightened. He just wanted to shield her from everything bad so that she would never have to feel that sort of fear and pain ever again. Out of anyone in this room, he could relate to that type of fear.
“I’ll make sure to let the others know, I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable during your first meal here,” Laura informed her.
“Thank you Mrs Alvarez,” Penny smiled, “I really appreciate it.”
“It’s absolutely no problem honey,” Laura emphasized, “Now I’ve gotta get the rest of these plates out, please, make yourselves at home.” With that, she turned to walk back into the kitchen.
“Here, let me take your coats,” Jack offered, holding his arm out.
“What a gentleman!” Amber gave Penny a look, making the girl glare at her mother, “Penny you better snatch him up before anyone else does.”
“Mom!” Penny hissed. Jack was fairly sure his face resembled the red lights flashing on the Christmas tree.
“Mom, why don’t you and Penny just wait in the living room please!” Riley exasperated, desperate for her mother to not spout out whatever she had in mind.
Amber put her hands up in surrender, “Alright, I yield.”
“Don’t worry Amber,” Winter took the woman’s arm into hers and led her into the living room, “She’s been like that with me whenever I point them out as well.”
“Honestly Winter, what it your fiancé like?” she joked, leaving Riley gaping behind them.
“I heard that!” Riley hollered, chasing after them, leaving Jack and Penny alone in the hallway together.
Jack took this moment to take in the garment she was wearing. It was a simple crimson dress with a floor length pleated skirt, long off-the-shoulder bell sleeves and a ruffled neckline. “You look…wow,” he breathed, how was she able to take something so simple and still look so stunning? She truly was remarkable.
“Thanks,” she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, “I wasn’t gonna wear it but I thought that it would be nice for this evening.”
“You’re so beautiful,” he knew what he said, and he wasn’t going to take it back, not when she peered up at him through her long lashes with a gasp.
“Y-you’re ridiculous,” she uttered, handing him her jacket.
“Hey, just telling the truth here,” he replied as he went to hang up her jacket on the wall, “Besides, someone’s gotta point out how pretty you are.”
“Keep the chivalry to yourself sir,” Penny placed a hand on her hip.
“Can’t help it, I’m dreamy,” he was unable to keep the grin off his face at her pout. His face softened, holding out his arm, “Shall we?”
Penny raised a brow at him, grinning. “Mr Jack how thoughtful of you.”
“Well I have to put the wellbeing of our guests first,” He joked back, “Let me introduce you to everyone else.”
Penny nodded and slipped her arm into his, the two unable to fight of the chortles at their current predicament. He led her into the living room, Amber was already sitting down talking to Riley and Winter. On the sofa across from them was another couple around Marcus and Laura’s age. “Penny, this is Winter’s aunt and uncle, Anya and Winston.” he introduced. She gave them a nod before Jack led her to another young woman around her age. “This is their daughter Kiara.”
“It’s really nice to meet you Penny,” Kiara greeted.
“It’s nice to meet you too,” Penny returned.
Winston spoke up, “Laura’s been talking nonstop about ‘Jack’s new sweetheart,’ so it’s nice to finally meet the lovely lady in person.”
“Of course Laura’s been talking about us,” Jack groaned, Penny had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing.
“She’s so pretty Jack!” Anya gushed from her seat, “Where did you find this lovely girl?”
Both of them paled, sharing a look. The story about how they met was always going to be an awkward one, wasn’t it? They were saved by the sound of thundering feet descending down the stairs as Nina and Alex came bounding over to Jack and clutched each of his leg.
“Jack!” Nina cheered, “Penny’s here!”
“Yes, I can see that-ah-guys let go!” He stumbled over his feet and words, how much sugar did these two have earlier?
“Jack has a girlfriend! Jack has a girlfriend!” Alex chanted.
Penny and Jack spluttered over their words, at a loss of what they heard. “We’re not-” Penny gasped.
“It’s not like that-!” Jack objected “We’re just-”
“-Friends!” They chorused. Friends yes, that was what they were, but it just didn’t sound like something they wanted to continue being. They were unable to keep the daydreams of each other away anymore, to constantly wonder what the other was doing, what other hobbies they might have, if the other felt the same way.
“Nina, Alex!” Laura came back through again, the apron gone as she took each twin’s arm in her hands and pulled them off Jack, much to his relief. “That’s enough harassing Jack, dinner is ready.”
“I can’t wait to see what you’ve made this year Laura,” Winston clapped his hands together.
“I’ve gotta say I’m pretty excited to eat what you’ve made as well,” Amber got up, “As well as the table gossip as well.” She gestured to Jack and Penny.
“Oh Amber you must sit next to me, I have so much to share,” Laura not-so-subtly gestured to Jack and Penny.
Both mothers grinned, leaving Jack and Penny flustered messes unable to move from their spots.
“I’m so sorry about that,” Jack unlinked his arm, immediately missing Penny’s warmth.
“No, I should be sorry,” Penny objected, “My mom can be a lot sometimes.”
“Well I guess that’s just another thing we have in common,” Jack nervously rubbed the back of his neck.
“Yeah, I think so,” Penny’s embarrassment began to slip away, Jack’s seemingly doing so as well.
“Penny!” Riley interjected, taking her sister’s hand, “Sit next to me!”
“But I-woah!” Riley dragged her younger sister into the dining room, plopping her down to the seat on Riley’s left while Winter sat on Riley’s right. Guess she was still a bit protective.
“What are you waiting for over there dude? Come on!” Winter waved a hand over.
Jack let out a slow breath as he walked over, sitting opposite from Penny. At least it would be easier to talk to her face to face without twisting his head. Soon, everyone was loading pork, bread and steamed vegetables onto their plates, Kiara was taking photos of her food with Anya scolding her to put her phone away, Winston was already scooping up spoonful’s into his mouth, Nina and Alex grimaced at the greens on their plates and asking when dessert was, Laura was pouring wine into her and Amber’s glasses before clinking them together, Marcus was listing off each shop he had to visit just to make sure he got every right ingredient for tonight’s meal, Winter and Riley were holding hands and had all their focus on each other instead of the food in front of them, and Penny and Jack kept trading small glances while eating, their eyes holding their own conversation as the drowned everyone else out.
“So Jack,” Anya piped up, “Do you have any plans once you graduate?”
“Uh, what?” he barely registered the question until it finally caught up to him. “Oh, right! Um, I’m trying to apply for an internship at this game company called C&A, they hire a lot of indie and free-lancing creators and help promote their games so I’m hoping to get a place there.”
“I think you’ll get it,” Penny said, “I’ve seen some of the stuff Jack worked on, he’s really talented.”
“And so are you little lady,” he said that mostly to see her cute pout again, “Laura, did you know that Penny is a costume designer?”
“I did,” Laura nodded, “And I’ve seen some of the pictures of her creations that you showed me, Penny you really do have a talent.”
“She’s been designing ever since she was six,” Riley said, “I have no idea where she gets her ideas from, it’s incredible.”
“It meets the bar at least,” Penny objected, “Trust me there’s people in my class that are way better than I am.”
“Don’t sell yourself short Pen, every time you send me a picture of something you’ve made It just shows how creative you are. Someone’s gonna reach out to you one day and say ‘Penny, you are one of the most talented people in the world and I wanna hire you!’ it’ll happen one day, I swear on it, after all I’m never wrong,” Jack said, pointing his fork at her.
“You? Never wrong?” Penny said doubtingly.
“What? I’ll have you know I’m very smart,” he frowned mockingly.
“I’m gonna have to agree with my sister there,” Riley said.
“Oh come on!” Jack cried and turned to Winter, “A little help here?”
“Why, everything they said is true,” she chortled.
Jack moaned as the rest of the table laughed, clearly taking pride in his misery.
Penny’s giggles died down, wiping a tear of mirth from her eye as she faced him again, “Well hopefully someone will take pity on my designs one day.”
“You mean someone will see how exceptional you are,” Jack pointed out.
“Awfully generous but sure, we’ll stick with that,” Penny rolled her eyes fondly.
“Let’s just hope he says what he means instead of talking out of his ass,” Riley quipped.
Penny threw her sister a look, “Riley,”
“What?” Riley shrugged her shoulder, “I’m not saying he’s wrong.”
Amber raised a brow at her daughter. It was a joke, she knew that was going to happen. But she knew Riley long enough to know when her daughter was hiding something, and more importantly, when Riley was hurting.
“Speaking of designs,” Penny said, “Riley, you gotta let me make your dress.”
“What, you don’t need to do that, I just want you to enjoy the wedding,” Riley interjected.
“Can’t hear you, I’m too busy thinking about your dress since I’m the best sister ever,” Penny gave her sister a sly grin.
Riley huffed a laugh, once her sister was inspired nothing could stop her.
“Jack?” Nina piped up.
“What’s up squirt?”
“Can you sing ‘No Girl’s Toy? after dessert?” she pleaded.
“Yeah, “No Girl’s Toy!” Alex cheered with his sister, “Oh please Jack, please sing that!”
Jack flushed, waving his hands in exasperation, “Woah, woah hang on! I’m not singing that!”
“Please Jack, please!” The twins chorused.
“It’s just a little song Jack,” Winter jeered, Jack glared at her.
“Yeah,” Riley joined in on her fiancé’s antics, “What’s so wrong with the Raggedy Andy song Jack?”
“I sung that one time and suddenly whenever it’s brought up I’m forced to sing it!” he told them, “I’m putting my foot down on this one, there’s no way that any of you can convince me too-”
“Raggedy Ann was my favourite movie growing up,” Penny mentioned, “I’d love to hear you sing that song. Please?”
Oh god, Penny’s chocolate brown eyes had such an effective grip on him, how on earth could he say no to those lovely eyes? He sighed, “Fine, one song and that’s it.”
“Yay!” The twins cheered before tucking back into their meal.
“You should bring Penny over more often,” said Alex.
“Yeah she makes you do fun stuff,” Nina agreed.
“It is very interesting how easily swayed you were,” Laura joined in.
Jack wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole, he was being way too obvious with how he felt. “Please, I just want to eat my food without any further humiliation.”
“You know Marcus, he’s acting just like you before you started going out with Laura,” Winston said, “The red face, being easily swayed, the teasing. I’m getting a bit of déjà vu here.”
Jack bit down on his fork hard as Penny began to quietly squeal like a kettle, this night was already too much for the both of them.
After dinner and dessert was finished, Riley was helping Laura wash up the dishes despite the woman requesting Riley to sit down. “Laura, do you mind if I have a word with my daughter?” Amber asked, entering the kitchen.
“Oh, of course,” Laura said before turning back to Riley again, “Remember sweetie, you’re our guest, make sure you relax tonight.”
“Just after I’m finished with this dish Mrs Alvarez,” Riley continued to scrub the plate, “Than I’ll relax.”
Laura patted her back, leaving the mother and daughter in the kitchen alone together. “Is everything okay with you?” Amber asked.
“What do you mean?” Riley didn’t take her eyes off the plate.
“I mean with Jack and Penny,” Amber told her, “I thought you were fine with him back when you started dating Winter.”
“I am,” Winter dried off the plate and put it away, “If this is about Penny, that’s just me being protective.”
“I know that,” Amber walked over to her, “But I also noticed that you seemed a bit aggravated towards him.”
Riley whipped round, “No I wasn’t, I was just looking out for Penny.”
“Penny is a grown adult who can make her own choices,” Amber walked closer to her, “Riley, baby, why are you so worried?”
“Come on mom, you aren’t at least a little bit worried?” Riley argued, “You aren’t worried that he’s like the boys from Penny’s high school. Penny’s got a sensitive heart, what if he breaks it like they did? Those boys didn’t actually like her, they wanted to control her. And once she didn’t give them what they wanted they would just dump her! What if he’s like that, what if he makes her hate herself? What if he makes her so scared to the point she stops talking again? What if we actually lose her? What if-”
“-If he’s like David,” Amber finished for her, “That’s what it is, right?”
Riley froze, part of her knew that this was why she was so scared for her younger sister, but she wanted David out of her mind. He already tried to force himself back into Riley’s life many times to ask for money, and she never forgave him for involving Penny in that car crash. She hated him, she hated him so much that she would never let anyone else hurt Penny like that again, she failed with David, she failed with those stupid high school boys and she won’t make that mistake ever again. “I have to be careful mom,” Riley said to her mother, “I can’t let Penny feel that kind of pain again.”
“I know baby,” Amber said, “When I heard of Jack and Penny seeing each other I got worried as well. It’s always my first instinct. But now, I know that I can’t let David control what could actually be good for Penny, I won’t let him get into my head like that. I’m still scared, baby believe me, but not as much as I used to be.” She cupped her daughter’s cheek, gently lifting her head to meet her eyes, “David hurt you too Riley, I know you hate thinking about him, but you’re allowed to feel betrayed as well. If I ever made you feel that you weren’t allowed to hurt for what he did to you, I’m so sorry. I’m your mother and I’m supposed to protect my babies. Yes, I protected Penny, but don’t think for a second I won’t protect you too, even after you’ve left the nest.”
Amber held her arms out for her daughter. After so much anger and frustrations for her father after so long, Riley all but broke in her mother’s arms, Amber stroking her hair and whispering comforts into her ear. “It’s okay baby, I’m here, mama’s here.”
A soft sniffle made them turn to the doorway, seeing Penny there with a few leaked tears. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop,” she whimpered, “Can I have a hug too?”
Riley and Amber opened their arms for her, letting the youngest daughter cry along with them as their mother squeezed them both. In that moment, Riley wasn’t an engaged woman and Penny wasn’t an aspiring college student. They were just the 10- and 14-year-old girls letting their mother sooth them after so much pain.
After a while, their tears were dried and the three headed back into the living room. Everyone rushed up to them, panicking and asking them if they were all right. They told the rest of the family that they were fine, just a mother and her two daughters picking up a few fallen pieces.
It wasn’t until Penny erupted into a fit of giggles, seeing Jack being the one to pout this time as he held up a microphone and had the TV ready to play ‘No Girl’s Toy.’ Everyone was immediately seated, ready to hear the performance.
“I hope my suffering entertains you monsters,” he mumbled, before pressing play on the music. He gave out one final sigh before he began to sing.
Well, you can push me, shove me, turn me around, but I'm no girl's toy!
You can tie me, toss me, upside or down, but I'm no girl's toy!
I sing my own sweet melody, I go my own sweet way.
I won't beg 'round tomorrow for the kind of affection that was free today!
Oh, you can squeeze me, tease me; say I'm your own but I'm no girl's toy!
You can charm me, chase me, follow me home; I won't be coy!
You may not like it much but I'm my own best boy,
And not some sugar and spicy, lacy and nicey, sissy you're gonna enjoy!
No, I'm no girl's toy!
Everyone applauded and clapped as he continued to sing. He was embarrassed, that was for sure. But seeing Penny so carefree and happy, no worries and stress in those beautiful eyes of hers, just having fun with everyone else, he would sing this song for the rest of his life as long as she was happy. He was unable to stop his pleased smile while he sang.
Riley rested her head on Winter’s shoulder, she didn’t need to say anything for Winter to know when her fiancé needed her. She kept looking between Jack and Penny, just seeing what he would do for her, she knew that he wasn’t a bad person, although her protectiveness would always take over her senses. However she knew that Penny had to do this on her own, but for the first time in a while, she believed that her little sister was safe.

.
Spring had arrived, the perfect atmosphere for Riley and Winter’s wedding to take place. They had booked a hotel for the night and rented out it’s ballroom for tonight’s event. There was only one thing on everyone’s minds, make sure this wedding went off without a hitch.
Since Christmas, Penny had put all her focus on making the perfect dress for Riley, something that was pristine and bridal while also making sure that this dress was something only Riley would wear. Jack had facetimed her every time she was sewing, making sure she was getting on well with the dress while also making sure she was eating and drinking enough fluids. He had also seen the final result of the dress and he was determined that once Winter saw Riley walking down the isle wearing that, she would promptly burst into tears.
After hours of setting up flowers and decorations, making sure the place was spotless, the meals were delicious, the dance floor was ready, getting changed into their wedding outfits and the chocolate fondue was prepared, everyone could finally breathe until the wedding officially begun.
Jack was currently standing at the end of the aisle, waiting for Winter to walk up with her father. That would be the order, the brides would wait in their dressing rooms, wait for one of them to walk up the aisle first before leaving their own room to walk up as well, in order for neither of them to see their gowns.
He wore a black tux with a simple white blouse underneath, fiddling with his cuffs one more time before resting his hands. Of course Winter had asked him to be her best man, it was expected since he was practically her adopted brother. Alex was beside him, standing proud and taking his job as the ring bearer seriously. He ruffled the boy’s hair, making him laugh before Laura sent a look to the boys, telling them to behave.
Everyone straightened up when the music began. The doors opened, revealing Nina as the flower girl, spreading flowers across the aisle as a few bridesmaids followed, including Kiara, each of them wearing soft silvery grey dresses. There was a swell of pride when he watched Winter walk through the doors and up the aisle, her arm secured in Marcus’s as the man led his daughter up while his eyes welled with tears. Winter wore a snow-white gown with a full-layered skirt while her bodice consisted of a sweetheart neckline and spaghetti straps. Some would call it simple, Winter called it timeless.
Once she arrived at the top of the aisle, her father kissed her on the cheek and whispered praise into her ear. It was only when she stood at the top and her father sat down, Jack noticed her clutching her bouquet of roses while trembling like a leaf. He leaned over and whispered, “You’re okay. Riley has been head over heals with you ever since you met.”
“What if she changes her mind?” she whispered back, “What if she realises we’re too different and leaves?”
“That’s not possible,” he told her, “You too are proof of the carrot cake theory working.”
“Excuse me?” she asked, baffled.
“The carrot cake theory,” he said, “You love it and Riley hates it, yet she always brought a freshly homemade carrot cake because you it’s your favourite. You too are proof that the theory works, that opposites attract.”
Winter snorted, “You just blatantly ripped off the olive theory.”
“Mine is better,” he sniffed, “Besides, it got you to stop shaking.”
Winter looked down at her hands, he was right, she had stopped shaking. The doors opened and Winter’s breath hitched as she gawked at her bride. Riley’s arm was in her mothers, her dress was an off-the-shoulder mermaid cut with a train, the white fabric adorned with glittered floral embroidery and long sleeves. The dress clung to her, Winter let a few tears fall, she was beautiful.
Jack was taken aback to, not by the bride, but by her maid of honour. Penny’s dress wasn’t as grand, yes, but he couldn’t take her eyes off her as she followed her sister. Her dress consisted of a purplish rouge chiffon fabric, a long A-line skirt, a straight across neckline and long balloon sleeves. He fell in love all over again.
Once Riley reached the end of the aisle, her hands latched onto Winter’s as Jack and Penny took a hold of their bouquets. Both brides were focused on each other, nothing else mattered. Once Amber sat down, did the wedding begin.
“Dearly beloved,” the officiator spoke, “We are gathered here today for the wonderful union of Riley Reed and Amber Alvarez. These two have proven that despite our differences, there is a love that can be found no matter what. Today, we are here to celebrate that love as these lovely ladies become not just married, but soulmates on this day. Winter, your vows.”
Winter took a shaky breath, “Riley, when I first met you, I won’t lie, I was a bit scared of you,” That earned a laugh from the crowd. “But after getting to know you, knowing how much you love your family, what you’ll do to make sure our clients get the justice they deserve, and knowing that despite your front, you are one of the kindest people I’ve ever met and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Riley began to cry as well, unable to keep all the affection she felt for this woman at bay. With the officiator’s okay, she began her speech. “Winter, every time I look at you I just keep asking myself, how did I get so lucky? How did I deserve the most perfect girl in the world? You look at the world with such positivity and kindness that I couldn’t not fall in love with you. Every time I look at you, you remind me why I became a private investigator, to help amazing people like you make the world a better place. I just…I really fucking love you Winter!”
Winter gave her a wet laugh, God she wanted to kiss her so bad.
“Winter,” the officiator said, “Do you take Riley Reed to be your wife, in sickness and in health, until the day you part, may you be together?”
“I do!” Winter replied immediately.
“And do you Riley-”
“I do, a thousand times I do!” Riley couldn’t stop the tears, not caring if her makeup got ruined.
“May we have the rings?” the officiator asked. Alex puffed his chest and beamed, carrying the rings over to the brides. The women thanked the young boy as the slipped each ring onto each other’s finger before holding hands again. “By the power vested in me, I know pronounce you too married. You may kiss the-”
The two didn’t wait for the officiator to finished before slamming their lips against each other’s, the crowd erupting into applause. Jack’s focus wasn’t on the couple though, his eyes travelled to Penny as she cheered for her older sister. Her eyes met Jack’s, the two of them just staring for a moment before giving each other a smile. It was in the moment that the two decided internally that one day, they wanted to have this moment and say ‘I do’ to one another. Tonight, they decided, would be the night that they would stop being ‘friends.’
.
.
.
The dance floor was empty apart from the newlyweds, holding each other in their arms as they let the music carry their slow steps. They weren’t able to keep their hands off each other since they were married, afraid that if they did then everything would disappear. By the time the first dance ended, the music picked up the pace and everyone was on the dance floor, dancing the night away, congratulating the couple and unafraid to be slightly more than tipsy.
Winter and Riley even threw their bouquets, having their backs turned to make sure it would be a surprise. When they turned round, they saw that Winter’s bouquet was held by one of the bridesmaids, and Riley’s was plopped into Penny’s hands.
“Penny’s gonna marry Jack!” Nina bellowed, she already had too much sugar from the fondue. It didn’t stop everyone whispering knowingly, apart from Riley still giving Jack the evil eye. However, Jack and Penny didn’t mind the teasing this time, after all, even if they didn’t confess yet, their feelings were mutual.
A while later, after dancing, talking and snacking, Jack pulled away from the buzz to get some fresh air on the balcony. He felt his heart take a leap when he saw Penny outside as well, her long hair flowing in the soft spring wind, taking in the quiet. He gently opened the door, trying not to startle her, though it seemed that he didn’t need to worry about that when she turned and noticed him, she must’ve sensed him coming outside.
“Need a break?” she asked.
“Yeah,” he said, going up to rest his arms on the stone rail, “I was also hoping to see you as well.”
“I guess it’s a win-win situation,” she gently nudged his shoulder with hers. He was glad that he was part of her inner circle of people she was comfortable touching. “So, Riley and Winter are finally married.”
“I’m surprised they didn’t do so sooner,” he reflected the first time Winter brought Riley home, how they would giggle and fawn over each other as Riley was introduced to Winter’s parents, “I felt like I was gonna go insane with how much they made goo-goo eyes at each other.”
“They still do that,” Penny replied, “And I think its gonna amplify now that they’re married.”
“Oh jeez,” he put a hand to his head, listening to Penny’s sweet giggle. He took in the situation at hand, they were on the balcony together talking and having fun with all the space they needed to talk about their feelings. Maybe this was his chance, “Although I will admit, I am a little jealous. It would be pretty nice to have someone to do all that sappy stuff with.”
“O-oh,” Penny was taken aback a little bit, the thought of he and her doing all sorts of couple things rushing through her mind. Wanting to spend all his time with her, holding her hand, whispering sweet nothings when no one was looking. “I wanna do that too, you know, with the right person.”
Jack fiddled with the cuffs on his sleeves, this was it, “And what is the ‘right person’ that you have in mind?”
Penny gulped, okay, now it was getting serious, no turning back. “Well, I’d like him to be funny, kind, respectful to his and my family. Someone who has my back no matter what. Someone who makes sure that I feel like I deserve to be here. Someone who…sees me.”
She said, oh she said it! Did this mean she felt the same, only one way to find out. “Is that so little lady?” he took in her blush and nod, “Well, I bet he’s very handsome, jaw-droppingly if you will.”
Penny’s blush faded as she let out a chortle, “Did I forget to mention he’s full of himself?”
Jack placed his hand dramatically on his chest, “Why Penny how rude! It’s takes guts for someone to admit when they’re good looking.”
“Guts? Or an ego that’s too big to fit his head?” she began to belly laugh at his frown, clutching her sides as she clutched her ribs.
“Oh? Well that’s too bad little lady, I was just about to describe my ‘right’ person,” he chuckled as she straightened back up, “But it you don’t wanna hear it-”
“Alright, you smug bastard,” she sighed fondly, “Tell me, what are they like?”
“Well, let’s see,” he tapped his chin in false thought, “She’s extremely talented, always puts her family first, has one of the cutest laughs in the world.” Taking a chance, he tucked a piece of her hair behind her skin, his skin tingling as he made contact with hers, “Insanely beautiful…who sees me too…and is very short.”
“I will bite you,” Penny snarled, but she held no threat in her tone.
Jack’s face softened, “And, I want to hold her, tell her how much I love her and be with her as long as she lets me.”
Penny’s shivered at his tone, if he were talking about her (and she really hoped he was) then she had to do this next part carefully, “And if you were with this girl right now, how would you tell her about how you feel?”
Jack gulped, time to take the plunge, “I would tell her that I’m not a perfect person, but I am someone who’s always trying. You’ve taken over my mind and have stolen my heart, but I can’t find it in myself to care as long as it’s in your hands.” He took her hands in his at those words, “I just hope that she feels the same way.”
Penny’s heart fluttered, squeezing his hand in return as a swell of joy rushed through her from head to toe, “She does! She really does!”
Jack exhaled sharply, he couldn’t believe it! She likes him back! She wanted to be with him! “I wanna kiss you so badly right now,” he clamped his mouth shut when he realised what came out his mouth. They just confessed and now he was admitting that he wanted to kiss her, and just when he thought he was being smooth.
“Okay,” Penny peered up at him through her lashes.
Jack gaped at her, “Pen, you don’t want to if you don’t want to.”
“Trust me,” she cupped his cheek, “I really want this.” Despite her initial shock, she oh so badly wanted to kiss him back. Ever since the Christmas fair she was unable to spot thinking about his lips on her forehead, or how they would feel on her lips. “Are you gonna keep gawking or do I need to make the first move?” she teased.
Both of his hands were suddenly cupping her cheeks, cutting her off. He gave her one more look, a silent request to do this. When she nodded, he immediately planted his lips on hers. She was so soft, so sweet, so amazing! God he loved her!
She returned the kiss with the same warmth he gave her, with one hand on his cheek she used the other to pull him in closer by the waist. His lips felt the same as they did on her forehead, but somehow so different on her lips. No one ever kissed her like this before, like she really mattered to them. But with Jack, his mouth matched his promise he told to her, and she never wanted him to stop.
They parted for a moment to catch their breaths, grinning as they rested their foreheads together. “So,” she took in another lungful of air, “Does this mean you like me back?”
He smirked, taking her chin between his thumb and finger, “You tell me little lady, or would you rather I show and not tell with another kiss.”
“The second option please,” she grinned back.
He was about to dive back into her lips when a gasp made them both freeze. By the doors, Amber stood with a glass of wine, she was probably out here to get some air as well. “I knew it!” she squealed, “I knew you were gonna confess tonight! Laura owes me ten bucks!”
“Mom!” Penny gasped, clutching herself closer to Jack to save herself from embarrassment.
“Don’t worry baby, I’ll keep this between you and me. Besides, this is something that you’ll want to tell Riley by yourself,” Amber added, making both Penny and Jack pale at the thought of her older sister finding out. “Like I said, I’ll keep this to myself. Oh and Penny? Make sure you use the makeup wipes I gave you before you go back inside, the corner of your lip is smudged.”
Penny all but squealed in mortification into Jack’s chest after her mother went back inside, the man stroking her back as he chuckled. “Well, she does have a point,” he mentioned, “We don’t want the first thing that Riley sees when we go back in is smudged lip gloss.”
“Don’t single yourself out mister,” she poked him in the chest, “You’re wearing it too.”
“Oh really? Is it a good colour on me?” He leant in closer.
Penny mumbled shyly under her breath, God she was just too cute. “Wanna say that again little lady?” he asked.
“I said, how about you kiss me again if you like my lip gloss so much,” she pouted, the blush on his face was worth it though.
Jack huffed a laugh and pulled her in closer, “Now that sweetie, can be arranged.”
And just like that, they dove back into another kiss, enjoying only themselves without anyone else to interrupt their moment. It was just them, the moon and the start of their new relationship. And they couldn’t wait to see what else was in store for them.

.
Jax stirred lightly, stiff from laying against the ground. He must’ve slid down the hedge and onto the plush grass in his sleep, oh well, the grass was comfier. He could feel his lips burn from where Penny kissed Jack, as though he were the one who kissed her. But that was impossible, wasn’t it? There was no way that actually happened.
He was about to move when he felt a light weight on his chest. Looking down, he saw Pomni curled up next to him, hugging his side as she snored softly while using his upper body as a pillow for her head. Why wasn’t he shoving her off or telling her to get lost? Why was he growing flustered by the second and praying that she couldn’t hear his quickening heart rate? He could feel his tail wagging underneath him, was he actually happy about this predicament? There was no way!
He felt her shift beside him, mumbling gibberish in her sleep before cuddling him closer. Cute…wait, no it’s not! Get yourself together Jax! But there wasn’t any denying it though, no matter how much he wanted to, yesterday’s revelation just proved to him that he felt some sort of attachment to the jester and it was driving him up the wall. Her hat had also slid of her head, revealing short yet soft looking locks. The way it framed her face ever so gently with its wisped strands, oh god she was killing him.
He let his temptation win, reaching his hand out to touch it when she suddenly woke up, barely processing what was happening until she saw that she was firmly cuddling into this side while he was reaching towards her. “You got a loose hair there, sweetie,” he tried to squash down the awkwardness, trying to bring up his charm to save himself.
It seemed that it didn’t work as she squealed and pulled away from him as though he burned her, he wasn’t gonna lie, it kind of stung a bit. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t even know that I was doing that!” she fumbled over her words, grabbing her hat and screaming into it.
“It’s fine,” he sighed, standing up and stretching. “We should keep going, make use of the time we have.”
Pomni looked up, still clutching her hat. She was glad that he wasn’t mad, but why wasn’t he? If it were anyone else she was shore he would have told them to get lost, why did he leave her be? Her dream from last night made this moment even more flustering for her, the memory of Jack kissing Penny with such passion was burned into the back of her mind and the minute she woke up she was cuddling into Jax! The universe had to be out to get her.
“Hey, you awake in there?” he pointed to her forehead, “I said we should keep going.”
“W-what?” oh right, they still had to get out of the maze. The long…long maze, “Yeah, I’m coming.”
It seemed that the awkward silence had carried over from last night during their trek through the winding paths, neither of them not knowing what to say and their dreams invading every single thought they had. But besides the kiss, Jax thought of the family that brought Jack into their home. They shared no blood but treated him as though he were their son, making sure he was fed, happy and safe despite the occasional teasing. His mind drifted to Laura, how she cared for each one of her children, with the care and love that a mother should, it made him think of…
He looked to Pomni, who also seemed to be deep in thought, he made sure that she wouldn’t bump into anything. He felt bad for snapping at her yesterday, and the words she said to him afterwards cut deep. It was the first time in so long that someone called him out in a way that hollowed him to his core, to just step back and really think. Maybe that was what he needed. “Do you remember yesterday when Caine mentioned I used to know someone?” he spoke up.
Pomni’s head snapped up to him, his voice drowning out the deafening silence they stewed in for quite some time. “Y-yeah, why?”
“Well, when I arrived,” he started, “I remember that I didn’t know anything about my past, I was stuck in a body I didn’t know and all I could remember feeling was regret and fear. I acted a lot like a wounded animal, just screaming at people to stay away. It worked on everyone…except for Queenie.”
Pomni gasped, she had heard of Queenie and seen her door crossed off. The unsaid implication of her abstraction was what chilled Pomni’s spine, no one had to say anything to know what happened to her, but she never realised Jack was close to her.
“Well, she was the only one who wasn’t really phased by me,” he continued, “She made sure that I wasn’t alone, told me the stuff to look out for and sometimes Kinger would join her with helping me out, it’s strange to think about, back then he was more sane than he is now. I won’t lie, there were times that I was a little sh77t, but I’m grateful that she was willing to help me out. It helped me feel less scared, and sometimes I wondered if I had a mother in my past life that was like Queenie. But soon, I started seeing less and less of Queenie, everyone was starting to get worried. Any time we would see her she was always talking about an exit. I was also looking for one as well, collecting keys hoping that one of them would lead to an exit. One day, I told her about and maybe she could use on of them so it could help her mission…the next day she abstracted. Kinger was never the same after that, I wasn’t really sure if those two were together or not, but it was obvious how strong their bond was. Ever since then he started rambling about his ‘insect collection,’ I don’t know if it was to distract him from the grief or if it was a factor of him going crazy. All I knew was if I didn’t give Queenie that key, she would still be here. If I didn’t try and escape, Kinger would still have his sanity left. It’s better that everyone hates me, all I am is this a%%hole rabbit who killed their oldest friend. It’s no wonder they hate me.”
“I don’t hate you,” Pomni said, making him turn to her, “That situation wasn’t your fault, it was just an awful place in time that no one could control. And I don’t think the others hate you too, I mean, did you even ask them?”
Jax sighed, “No, my mind just immediately believed that everyone hated me. Honestly, I wanted them to, it’ll make things a bit easier.”
“Yeah,” Pomni nodded, before paling at her word choice, “Not about everyone hating you, I meant about making things easier. Facing the bad stuff is scary, when I first got here I denied that this was real and that it was a dream. But at the end of it all, I had to accept that this was my reality, even if I didn’t like it. But I’m not gonna let it stop me from trying to leave, don’t let what happened to Queenie stop you from thinking that you deserve to be hated, you don’t. Maybe the others won’t forgive you immediately, but you can at least make a start.”
“We’ll see,” he gave her a soft grin, she was smiling back proudly. It was starting to get a bit too mushy now, so he pushed her hat over her eyes.
“Hey!” she squealed, she didn’t seem to mind that. She readjusted her hat and crossed her arms, “Really?”
“This is me we’re taking about. Besides, it was too easy Pom-pom,” he chuckled as she let out a groan.
“You’re not funny,” she walked up ahead, keeping the banter afloat as they continued to travel.
“No, I’m hilarious,” he retorted, “It’s not my fault you’re so uncultured short stack.”
She whipped back round at him with a pretend offended expression, “I’m not short!”
“Okay,” Jax snickered, “Come back to me about that were you grow 2 inches.”
She groaned dramatically, “You’re the worst!”
“True,” he picked her up as she let out a yip and placed her on his shoulders, “And I also have longer legs, I’ll get us to the exit faster.”
“Hey!” Pomni giggled, holding onto his head, “Put me down you giant!”
“But I need you to be my second pair of eyes short stack,” he patted her leg, “Just point out if you see anything and I’ll be your steering wheel.”
Despite the light teasing, she knew he was right, they would find the exit to the maze quicker if they worked like this, “Fine!...tall ass.”
“Say that again?” he quired.
“Nothing!” Pomni said.
Jax shrugged and continued walking. After a while, it seemed that the awkwardness had finally died down, leaving the two to engage in light conversations while searching for the exit. It was then they realised that they had forgotten about their dreams, not fully but they were so focused on one another, enjoying one another, they didn’t find the time to really think about them.
It still took them a bit of time, but eventually, to both of their relief and slight disappointment, they found the exit, the circus tent just down the path in front of them. Pomni jumped off Jax’s shoulders, there was no need for him to keep carrying down that they were back.
“I guess that marks the end of this adventure,” Pomni rubbed her arm, was she upset that this was over? Or was she upset that she couldn’t spend time with Jax anymore?
“Yeah, the end,” Jax nodded, as much as he didn’t want to be part of this little maze escapade, he’ll admit it, it was better with Pomni being here. In fact, he wouldn’t mind being around her more often. “You know, I’ve noticed that whenever you’re on your own, you’re either hyper focused on every single little thing to the point where it stresses you out of your in your own little world while dissociating. Sometimes you’re so in your head that you fail to notice when someone’s coming right at ya. Whether it be Caine with one of his adventures or one of the others fooling around.”
“That tends to happen a lot,” she confessed, “It’s either one or the either, there’s not an in between. It’s kinda a problem.”
“Well, I have a proposition for you,” he said, she perked up, “Until you feel like you understand this place a little more, I’ll be there to make you don’t have one of your episodes. Whether you’re spiralling or hyper focusing, I’ll be here to ground you in case that happens.”
“Really?” her eyes widened with joy at his offer, “You’d do that for me?”
“Just until you’re more aware of your surroundings,” he told her, “After all, I have a reputation to uphold.”
“Ah, right,” she gave him a joking grin, “We wouldn’t want anything to happen to that.”
“See, now you’re getting it,” he agreed, returning her grin.
The way he was leaning in, the way her heart sped up at their newly found teasing of each other, the way that the sense of déjà vu kept creeping in as though they had done this song and dance before. She ready did fall for him, didn’t she? She cleared her throat, “Well, good to know you’ve got my back, thank you again Jax. We should head in so no one’s worrying about us.”
“Works for me,” he nodded, his face suddenly becoming gentler, “And, you’re welcome.”
Don’t blush, don’t blush, don’t blush, don’t blush, don’t blush. “Race you inside!” she zoomed off, leaving the rabbit to laugh to himself.
“She sure is something else, huh?” he said to himself, his thoughts flooding with her again, he didn’t to anything to spot it, only letting it flow.
Pomni-Pomni-Pomni-Pomni-Pomni-Pen-
“Jax! You coming?” Pomni called out to him.
He blinked, what was that? What was his last thought about? He looked towards Pomni, suddenly forgetting that sudden glitch as he raced towards her, wanting to challenge the jester that captured his affections. “Are you sure sweetie?” he ran in her direction, “My longer legs might be more effective than yours short stack!”
“I’ll make you eat those words!” she snickered as he chased after her.
It was just a glitch.
Only a glitch.

A/N: I listened to My Tears Ricochet by Taylor Swift on repeat while writing this. Safe to say my tears have been lost somewhere in the fic. Okay enjoy (:
What hurts more than a relationship breakup? A friendship breakup. Gosh do they hurt. It’s a different type of pain.
You don’t know how it got to this point but here you were. Surrounded by so many people yet not even close to the one person you so badly wanted but couldn’t have.
“You look good today.” Megan says sarcastically.
“I feel like shit, god I do this to myself. Over and over.” You say as you set your phone down. “It’s just hard not to.”
“You’re just torturing yourself Y/N.” Alex says as she sits next to you. “You’re just opening that wound even more. Let it heal.”
“I just want to see her without her knowing I’m looking.”
“So a stalker.” Megan says.
“Well.. no? I just don’t want her to know I’m lurking through her page or even her boyfriends page. That would be weird.”
“But she knows who you are.” Alex says.
“That’s still a stalker.” Megan says. “And it is weird.”
“Meg.” Alex says.
“What? It is weird.”
“Shut up already.” Alex says slapping Megan on the arm.
“We aren’t even friends anymore, not like before.” You say as you pull the hoodie over yourself. “I just wish I could go back in time and fix things. But it’s too late now.”
“It gets better with time.” Alex says as she wraps her arm around you.
“Trust me I’ve been waiting but it’s been years Al. It’s been literal years.”
“Give it time Y/N.”
“I hope you’re right Al. I hope you’re right. I can’t move on. I don’t want this to be my life.”
You pull the strings on your hoodie, covering your face as you lean against Alex.
“She’s here.” Alex whispers and you quickly let your head fall onto her lap.
“Hey girls.” You hear Christen say, you don’t look anywhere, you close your eyes pretending to be asleep. “Alex.”
“Christen.” Alex says.
“Where’s your boyfriend?” Pinoe asks and you discretely kick her shin.
“Couldn’t make it today.” Christen says and Alex puts her arm on top of your body.
“Bummer.” Alex says trying not to sound sarcastic. “Would’ve loved to finally meet him. You know, you’ve been dating for two years now.”
“Maybe another time.” Christen says. “I’m sure he’d love to meet you guys, he said he’d try and be here tomorrow.”
“Well that’s great.” Alex says.
“Is she sleeping?” Christen asks as she looks down to you.
“Knocked out.” Alex says as she places her hand on your head. “Long flight you know?”
“If I still remember correctly she probably stayed up all night to make sure she wouldn’t miss her flight.” Christen says, for some reason her remembering that made your heart flutter but also break a little.
She remembers.
“I hate flights they stress me out.”
“Just sleep I’ll make sure I’ll wake you up if you don't wake up on time.” Christen says and you sigh.
“No because you sleep through your alarms.”
“Oh shush you. Look on the bright side, our families are going on a trip together.”
“True, it was a surprise they said yes.”
“That’s exactly what happened.” Alex says as she remembers last nights events.
“Same old Y/N/N.” Christen says with a chuckle.
“That’s Y/N for you.” Alex says patting your head.
“Well I’ll see you guys later right?” Christen asks.
“Definitely.”
You hear the wheels of a suitcase further away from you, finally lifting your head back up.
“Deep down I trick myself into thinking she loved me too at one point but never told me.” You say with a shrug.
“Come on let’s go back to our room.” Alex whispers as she stands up, extending her hand to you.
The three of you walk up to the hotel room, head rested against Alex’s arm.
As soon as you walked inside you laid down on the bed and curled up into a ball.
“Becky is on her way to grab something from here but don’t mind her.” Alex whispers and you nod.
You soon hear a knock on the door and hear the door open.
“Cap Becky!” Pinoe shouts.
“I’m just here to grab the folder.” Becky says walking into the room.
“Alex.” Becky says and then looks at the body on the bed, that body being you. “Hey Y/N what’s going on?”
“I hate feelings and love.” You say as you stare at the wall.
“Is Christen still being a total loser?” Becky asks.
“She’s not a loser.” You say.
“So it’s Christen.”
“When hasn’t it been.” You hear Pinoe say, you lift your head up and stick your tongue out at her.
“Can I state an opinion?” Alex asks, Becky looks at Alex and she tilts her head.
“Sure.” You say. “What is it?”
“I think there’s more to what happened the night it all went down, from my perspective at least. I mean there’s no reason to end a friendship over two people hanging out right?” Alex says. “I was there that night. I was that person hanging out with you.”
“I was very persistent on her calming down about you and me hanging out often. It didn’t seem like a big deal to me.”
“Then there’s more to it.” Alex says. “Just my opinion.”
“I guess, thanks.” You say as you grab a blanket, covering your head.
The sound machine beside the bed that Alex had turned on to help you fall asleep did it’s magic. Of course with a hint of Taylor Swift playing in the background, Alex knowing all too well it would knock you out, she had a playlist all made for you to sleep to.
“You know we can’t tell her.” Becky says whispering to Alex.
“Y/N needs the closure she deserves.” Alex whispers. “We’ve been lying to her the whole time.”
“We don’t even know the entire story! Christen said something just took over her that night.” Becky says. “You think I know the whole story? I don’t! Christen has been lying to us, we’re not lying to Y/N. We’ve told her all WE know.”
“All we know? Sure, but we sure as heck weren’t blind that night. You and I both know what we saw.” Alex says. “I was there Becky. It happened again that night when we all went together as a team to watch a basketball game.”
“And if we’re wrong? Then what? We give her false hope?” Becky says. “If we’re wrong we destroy her.”
“Well I wasn’t fucking blind that night that’s for sure and you know damn well what you saw that night.”
“I actually kind of agree with Becky here.” Pinoe says. “Are we certain of what we saw that night? Not necessarily but we also can’t kill her hope. We’re not even the ones to be saying what we saw because we all know Christen is the one who truly knows.”
“The same thing happened when we were in college. It was that same look of she wanted me dead.”
“Alex.”
“No I’m serious. But it happened again and this time it looked like she wanted me to know. You were there.”
“We were all there this time but the first time? You said it yourself you guys were in college. We don’t know everything.”
“Christen has been on thin fucking ice since that night.” Alex says. “It’s been years.”
“Until she wants to say something about it then we can say something.” Becky says. “Okay? Okay. We’ve agreed”
Throughout all that whisper yelling you somehow slept through it, the sound machine doing its work as it should and the power of the playlist Alex had made you did wonders.
“You know this is the first time she’s actually getting some sleep. You guys haven’t been there.” Alex says. “I was! I was there! I’ve been there! She barely gets sleep and she needs help. It’s been years!”
“Clearly her first love.”
“You don’t get it, it’s been like this since college. Christen ruined this wonderful human being over what? Stupidity. Ignorance? JEALOUSY?”
“Okay now don’t say things like that.” Becky says. “We don't know that.”
“Y/N needs help I’m talking therapist help to heal and be able to move on.” Alex whispers. "You know I'm right. Christen only ever tries to find Y/N whenever things go wrong in her love life and Y/N being Y/N she lets her back in her life. Then when Christen is better she leaves."
"Okay so Christen is a jerk." Megan says. "What do you expect us to do then?"
"If I knew I would have been doing it already." Alex says as she gets into the bed with you. “She’s been through enough, she’s put up with Christen’s stupid games. Christen gives her false hope.”
“We don't say anything about it yet.” Becky says as she leaves the room.
“My poor Y/N has tried to face reality but can’t because she’s afraid.” Alex whispers as she runs her fingers through your hair.
“At least she has you.” Megan says with a shrug.
“She’ll always have me. That will never change.”
- - - -
“Good morning sunshine.” Alex whispers as she moves the hair out of your face. “Let’s go grab breakfast we’ve got a long day ahead of us.”
“Isn’t today a whole day of team bonding?” You grog out. “If so then I think I’ll take an extra hour of sleep.”
“Funny. Come on get up. Even if it’s team bonding, the time doesn’t change. It’s 7am. Get up.” Alex says as she pulls the first blanket off of you.
“Ugh sometimes this whole being a professional soccer player has its cons. This being one of them.” You say stretching. “A pro of being a professional soccer player is being friends with you.”
“Aww how sweet, nice try. Get up already.”
“You’re so bossy I hope you know that.” You say as you get up from the bed.
“I know.”
After dressing up you both head down to grab breakfast, naturally you sat next to Alex, always feeling protected by her.
“Feed me.” You tell Alex.
“Feed yourself I’m not going to feed you, your hands are working just fine.” Alex says.
“Alex please, I’m sad.” You say, you’re quick to give her the best puppy eyes you could.
“Ugh. Fine. Just this once.” Alex says grabbing your fork and grabbing a piece of fruit. “Open.”
“Thank you.”
Alex continues feeding you some food while also eating her own breakfast. Your head rested on your hand as you look at Alex. You’re interrupted when someone sits in front of you.
“Hi Alex.” Christen says. “Hey Y/N.”
“Hey.” You say quickly then try to scoot closer to Alex
“Christen.” Alex says.
“Al more.” You say opening your mouth.
“That’s the last of it. Now let me eat before we have to go.” Alex says and you nod.
“You two still hang out a lot huh?” Christen says and you turn to face her.
“We do, we actually live together because roommates!” Alex says making you laugh.
“Plus rent is cheap when this superstar gets paid big money with all her sponsors.” You say with a chuckle. “Gotta love living with Alex.”
“Who wouldn’t love having you around all the time. We get to stay in and watch movies and we end up falling asleep on the couch until one gets up and wakes the other up to go to bed. So fun.” Alex says.
“Sounds fun.” Christen says. “Sounds like you two really did solidify that good friendship.”
“Oh yeah, long ago. Ever since college right?” Alex says turning to look at you.
“Um? Yes?” You say.
“Awesome.”
“Very.” Alex says sternly, glaring at the green eyed woman in front of her.
“Alright everyone we’ve brought a team specified in team bonding to come and help this team become better and you know trust each other. We’ll be having activities all afternoon. So after breakfast we head to the conference room.” Vlatko announces. “Also we have Naomi Girma and Taylor Kornieck joining us for the first time. So let’s welcome them both with a good attitude. Dismissed.”
“Great, team exercises. Fun.” Pinoe says. “As if I don’t spend time enough with all of you.”
“You love us though, right?” Rose asks Pinoe.
“You my dear Rose are who I love the most.” Pinoe says patting Rose’s head.
“Ouch.” You say.
“How’s it feel to be a veteran?” Alex asks and you chuckle.
“I feel rather-.”
“Old? Yeah get used to it.” Pinoe says and you shove her.
“I was going to say I feel weird.” You say. “You on the other hand, you are old so time is ticking.”
“You little shit.” Pinoe snarls and you laugh, but soon enough she has you in a headlock.
“Y/N? You still love me even though Pinoe hates you right now right?” Rose asks and you smile.
“I’ll always love you Rose. You’re too precious.”
“Newbies in the house.” Kelley shouts, you turn around and see the two woman walking towards your table.
“Rookies.” You say looking at them.
“They’ll do great.” Alex says and you nod. "Megan let go of Y/N."
"Thanks."
"You're lucky I love you."
“I definitely see Naomi being captain in the future. She has the spirit and looks like could give good speeches.” You say. “But I’m getting ahead of myself.”
“Good thing we all play together in club.” Alex says and you chuckle.
“That’s true.”
You all head to the conference room, sitting down at one of the many tables set up in the conference room.
“I’m ready to get this over with.” You say as you clap.
“Okay everyone, with the people in your table, let’s start with your name and something like a hobby.” One of the woman says.
“So I’m Y/N and I like to sleep? That can be a hobby right?” You ask.
“I think so.” Mal says and you nod your head.
“Then that’s my hobby.”
You looked up from your table, your eyes meeting the green eyes you so hopelessly fell in love with long ago. Christen smiled at you and gave you a little wave. Waving back, you immediately leaned against Alex. Christen’s smile fading away.
“You okay?” Alex whispers and you nod. “Hey. It’s me and you. Me and you always.”
You hoped this camp would finally be the time you both would reconnect after many years of not being friends.
You hoped.
Hoping. Like you always did.
But that hope was running out. You didn’t like that.
“Okay now that you’ve all clearly shared the same hobby. Let’s see if you know each other’s birthday.”
“Birthday’s? BIRTHDAYS? As in the day people were born? I barely even remember mine.” Rose says.
“Yet you remember Wilma’s.” Mal says.
Everyone at your table attempts getting each other’s birthday right when it’s finally your turn you groan. Not wanting to have everyone guessing once again for another birthday that not anyone can barely remember you decide to just make it go quicker.
“My birthday is-.” You’re cutoff by Alex who stops you.
“Oh I know this, easy.” Alex says with a smile. “It’s-.”
“I know your birthday.” Christen says pulling a chair to your table and sitting across from you. Interrupting Alex. “Super easy, Y/N’s birthday is Y/B/D. I know that.” Christen smiles as she looks at you.
You turn to look at Alex who’s just as confused as you are. She shrugs her shoulders as she tries to understand what just happened.
“When’s mine Y/N/N?” Christen asks you as she looks at you, ignoring the others at the table. “Do you even remember mine?”
You reach for Alex’s hand under the table, trying to gain some sort of reality in what seemed fantasy. Alex squeezed your hand three times and you took a deep breath.
"Happy Birthday Chris, what do we have planned for today?" You ask Christen.
"Me and you movies and maybe go to the beach?" Christen asks and you smile.
"Sure, whatever you want. It's your birthday."
“I remember yours, it’s December 29.” You say and you feel your cheeks start to heat up, but also your heart racing.
“I can’t believe you actually remember.”
“I could never forget.”
The rest of the time you were out of it, not focused in team bonding anymore after what had occurred. Your mind still groggy, trying to understand what the hell had just happened.
It wasn’t like Christen to do what she did, plus you had initially thought she didn’t want to talk to you. Yet here she was acting the way she was. It confused you in every single way.
Everything just made you remember the night Christen saw you and Alex holding hands at a game. Which you thought wasn’t a big deal until Alex told you that Christen was practically looking at her like she wanted her dead.
You just never understood why she reacted that way when she sat behind you at the game with her boyfriend. Christen knew you and Alex had always been close you just never thought it’d be a problem.
“Alright everyone you’re dismissed for whatever shenanigans you all will be up to. Be careful.” Vlatko says. “But be careful.”
You immediately get up pulling Alex and Rose.
“I’ve been chosen. Yes.” Rose says.
“I’m terrified of what just happened in there.” You whisper to the two women in front of you.
“Maybe Chris is trying to reconnect?” Rose says shrugging her shoulders. “But it was kind of unexpected if that’s what you’re implying.”
Alex looks at you with worried eyes, wanting so badly to tell you what she had thought of that night, the night everything crumbled for you. But she held back, remembering what Becky had told her.
While you racked your brain trying to find a perfectly good explanation to what had happened, Christen was walking right behind a group of youngsters.
“Did you see Alex’s private story? They went surfing and then to a concert just the other day. How can I trade spots with Y/N? I want to go to concerts too.”
“Y/N has just been going through it, Alex just tries to distract Y/N from practically everything.” Naomi says. “She’s a great friend. They’re both great people.”
“They’re attached to the hip, wherever Alex is, Y/N is right behind. And wherever Y/N is, Alex is right behind.” Taylor says. “I think it’s kind of cute.”
“Oh definitely.” Naomi says with a chuckle. “I do love their weekend cookouts that they invite us to, it relaxes me.”
“Oh my god you’re so right.” Taylor says.
“What are we talking about?” Ashley asks as she catches up to the two Wave players.
“Alex and Y/N.” Taylor says.
“Oh my god, they are the cutest. Did you guys see the picture of them both spending the holidays together with their families? When I have a friendship like that I’ll be happy.” Ashley says.
“They’re the best.” Naomi says.
“Cute.” Christen says bitterly as she walks past the girls.
“What was that?” Ashley asks, the two Wave players shrugging in confusion not knowing what may have caused such a reaction from who they thought was the calmest person.
- - - -
After a long two weeks of camp, you were a bit thrilled to return to San Diego. To be in your own bed and be away from all the chaos that occurred. To be as far away from what Alex is saying to be reality you didn't want to face.
Were you not facing reality already? You sure thought you were looking at reality.
“She leaving?” Alex asks and you nod. “If it’s meant to be then it’ll happen Y/N/N.”
“Thanks for that Al but she’s gone now. She always said she didn’t feel the same, others say differently but I do always wonder if at some point she did feel the same for me, for just a little bit.”
“Only she knows I suppose. I can’t read minds or else I’d read minds.” Alex says making you laugh a little bit. “Trust me Y/N. If it’s meant to be then your paths will cross and meet again. Don’t force it.”
“I am a big sucker for hope.” You say softly. “I feel like just waving a white flag you know? I surrender, it’s been years.”
“Don’t wave it.” You hear someone behind you say. “You’re the biggest sucker when it comes to hope and I love that about you. You always have hope. I have no idea what you’re talking about but don’t wave the flag, keep hoping.” Christen says as she flashes you a big wide smile as she walks past you.
“Y-yeah thanks.” You say as you lean into Alex, trying to feel some sort of protection. Alex is quick to react as she wraps her arm around you.
Alex didn't miss the glare Christen was sending her, the same glare she had received from the green eyed woman years ago. Alex tilted her head, she knew that glare, she knew that reaction. Christen was jealous, Alex knew it, it had to be that.
“I have to go but whatever it is don’t wave it. There’s always hope.” Christen says as she opens the door to the car that had just arrived. She opens the passenger door and you see her boyfriend.
“Hi babe you ready to go home?” Christen’s boyfriend says.
“Yeah. Ready.” Christen says as she gets inside. “Y/N don’t lose hope.”
You nod your head as the car drives off.
As soon as the car is far from your sight you pulled out a napkin you had in your napkin from lunch earlier that day.
“Y/N?” Alex asks as she looks at you.
You turn to look at her as you wave the napkin in the air.
“I give up.” You say as you begin to sob.
“Oh Y/N/N.” Alex says as she pulls you in for a hug. You sobbed into her chest as you grabbed the sides of her sweater.
“I just want to talk to her, but at the same time scream.” You say in between sobs.
“Then scream, scream at the sky and scream all you wish you could tell her. Heal Y/N. You deserve to heal from the pain she has put you through.”
You clung onto Alex’s hoodie, a sobbing mess in Alex’s arms.
Some of the older girls walk out of the lobby and they’re met with the sight of you clinging onto Alex, sobbing. They stop as Alex signals them to stop where they are.
“Here I have an idea.” Alex says. “Come on everyone. Follow me.”
Alex took you to a nearby beach, a secluded area where there weren't many people.
“What are we doing here?” You ask Alex.
“Scream. Scream at the sky, scream all you wish you could tell her, scream. Talk to her by screaming at the sky.” Alex says as she holds onto your hand. “Let yourself heal.”
You look at Alex and sniffle. She gives you a supportive smile and nods. You look around and no one was around. You took in a deep breath as you looked up at the sky.
“Scream. Scream all you want.”
You sniffle and wipe your tears. Closing your eyes you replayed every memory, they just all reminded you of what she was to you. She was home.
“Apparently home doesn't have to be a place.” Christen says as she walks into your bedroom.
“Really? So then what else can it be?” You ask.
“A person.” Christen says as she lays next to you.
“Wow that's deep.” You say as you look up at the ceiling.
“You’re my home.” Christen says making you smile.
“You’re my home too.”
You begin to scream as you open your eyes, looking up at the sky.
“YOU BROKE ME.” You yell at the sky. “YOU WERE MY HOME. I WAS YOURS.”
“There we go let it go.”
“Me and you forever.” Christen says as she plays with your hair, your head resting on her chest.
“Me and you forever.” You repeat.
“I HATE YOU.” You scream and sob. “I love you.”
“We’re going to live together one day trust me.” Christen says and you laugh. “What? Do you think I’m kidding?”
“Come on Chris maybe for a little but then you’ll get married or something.” You say looking at her.
“Married? Pass. It’ll be me and you living together forever. Nothing can separate us.”
“It was me and you forever.” You sob out.
“You have a boyfriend?” Christen asks and you furrow your eyebrows as you grab your backpack.
“No? Who said that?” You ask as you look at Christen weirdly. “Plus if anything I think I'd have a relationship with a girl first rather than a guy.”
“Oh I just heard something around.”
“Well I don’t so can you calm down?”
“I’m calm.” Christen says making you laugh.
“Why were you losing your mind over that? I don't react that way when you have a boyfriend.”
“I gotta make sure whoever dates you is good for you just like you do for me.” Christen says and you snort.
“Yes because when have you listened to me about your boyfriends, they’ve been terrible and I tell you before. I can sense it way before you do.”
“Yeah but your love life matters to me, I want you to be with someone who loves you and treats you right. I could care less about mine.”
“Clearly. Trust me I know.”
You continue to scream at the sky as you stomp your feet on the sand.
“You ever look at stars and think just how beautiful they are?” Christen asks you as you both lay outside on the lawn.
“Actually, yes.” You say. Christen turns to look at you, a smile plastered on her face.
“Why are you smiling like that and looking at me like that?” You say with a nervous chuckle.
“I’m going to be honest.” Christen says grabbing you hand. “What if we just never get married? What if it’s just me and you forever? Wouldn’t that be nice? Just us and laughter and adventures.”
“I suppose?”
“I’m just really grateful for you and I’m really lucky to have you in my life, you've stayed friends with me for so many years and I know I don't tell you often but I do love you and I appreciate it and all you do for me. I'm sorry I’m not the best of friend, or that I push you away sometimes, I don't mean it. I just don't ever want to lose you.”
“You won't. I don't want to ever lose you either Chris, I don't want to face the world by myself, I want to have you around forever.”
“Us two facing the world together. Facing reality.” Christen says booping your nose. “I love you.”
“Us versus the world.” You say making Christen laugh.
“It's me and you forever.” Christen says as she looks back up at the sky.
As you both laid on the grass Christen reached over to grab your hand, you turned your head and saw Christen looking at you, a very interesting look on her face that you couldn't quite figure out. The soft gaze and her smile.
Christen’s mind was everywhere, but when she would look at you and you smiled, she knew she loved you so much. Everything around you both seemed to not matter, she knew you were her home.
“I’m sorry I don't show it often but I really do appreciate you and I’m sorry I push you away, I don't mean it.” Christen says as she fidgets with your fingers. “I just-.”
“It’s okay you don't have to explain. I’ll always be around.”
“But you're the one who's constantly putting so much into our friendship and I know we've talked about this before, I need to do more.”
“Christen.”
“I don't want to lose you, ever.”
“You won't. Come on Christen we both know we've gone through enough and we’re still here.”
“Yes because you're the one who's always trying to save this friendship.”
“Christen. Hey. It’s me and you. Me and you.”
“Me and you.”
You fall onto your knees as you hide your face in your hands. Trying so hard not to absolutely lose your composure, but you're pretty sure you had already lost it.
"I don't even understand why you're acting like this Chris, you're not like this." You say as you walk closer to her.
"I always say I'm gonna change the way I am to you but never do. I'm a bad person. I'm not a good person." Christen says and you look baffled.
"Don't say that, hey you're not a bad person. You are a wonderful and kind person." You say as you walk up to Christen, cupping her face in your hands.
"I don't know how you're still my friend. You are so fucking amazing Y/N. You don't even know how much you truly are worth, I'm fucking lucky to have you in my life and I should be cherishing you and appreciating you before it's too late."
"I'm right here Chris. I'm right here."
While you sobbed, letting it all out, Christen was with her boyfriend driving home.
“That was the famous Y/N?” Christen’s boyfriend asks.
“That was her with Alex yes.” Christen says.
“Are they together?”
“Who? Alex and Y/N?” Christen asks with a chuckle. “Probably, I wouldn't know.”
“I thought they were together.”
“Yeah well they might as well be.”
“Angry much?”
“No. I just want to go home.” Christen sighs, Christen’s boyfriend sighs and shakes his head as he looks at the road. ”What?”
“You get like this every single time you either hear, see or literally just know she's around. You get so- so..”
“So what?”
“Jealous! Christen you get jealous!”
“I don't know what you're talking about. Why would I be jealous? We haven't been friends since our first year of college.”
"What are you doing?" You ask Christen as you walk into her room.
"Getting ready?" Christen says, you raise your eyebrow as you see what's in her hand.
"What the hell are you going to do with a hammer?"
"Aren't you going to meet someone?" Christen asks and you snort.
"Yes but I can assure you I'll be fine."
"I just gotta make sure they're good for you."
"So you have hammer for that? Christen it's just a date."
"Okay and?" Christen asks as she looks at you, you raise your hands in defeat as you turn around and walk away.
"You're being extra weird."
“I feel like I always come second Christen. Even if she isn't in your life anymore, it seems like she's all you think about.”
“That’s not true.”
“But it is. Christen I’m tired of being second choice to your ex girlfriend.”
“Ex girlfriend? Where the hell did you come out with that conclusion? We were best friends, nothing more. Sure she liked me but I never liked her back.”
"Hey." Christen says as she looks at her neighbor opening the door to her house.
"Christen? Everything okay?" Christen's neighbor asks.
"Can we talk?"
"Sure come in." She says, Christen walks in as she sits on the couch. "No Y/N today?"
"Haha no, she's home."
"Very odd to see you both apart. You guys are always together. She cares about you a lot."
"I care about her too, a lot. She's become someone so important to me and makes me very happy."
"Oh I know." She says with a smirk, a smirk Christen doesn't see.
"Wait what do you mean by that?" Christen asks.
"Nothing. But I'm sure you know."
“She liked you? Oh wow, that explains a lot.” He says.
“Come on you can't be serious.” Christen says with a laugh.
“I mean it all makes sense, so many times that we went to the carnival on the Fourth of July. Our anniversary. I don't know why I didn't catch that earlier. All those stories you would tell me, I just thought you missed being friends with her.”
“What? What are you talking about?”
“Are you that blind to your own feelings? You loved her or love her I don't even know anymore.”
"Thank you for being in my life even though I don't deserve someone as great as you."
"Chris, come on. We both know you deserve a better friend than me."
"No, if I didn't have you I'm pretty sure I'd look for you. In every universe I think I'd look for you, because without you I feel like something is missing."
“No I didn't and I don't.”
“Our anniversary is something else to you, it’s a reminder of the times when you'd go with her to the carnival. You said it was a tradition. July fourth is our anniversary, but every time it comes around you seem so down, like if you have something else in mind. You have her in mind.”
“Oh my god you can't be serious.”
“I should've seen it sooner.” He says shaking his head.
"You're unbelievable, none of it is true."
"Face reality Christen, fuck."
Alex looked behind you to see the girls looking at you then Alex, a soft smile on their faces. They could see it and feel it. They all walked over to you and Alex, all sitting down on the sand as they hugged you.
"I hope you never forget how much I love you." Christen says as she fixes the blanket over you, running her fingers through your hair. "You don't even understand and you won't ever see how much I truly do love you."
“It was supposed to be me and her forever.” You sob out.
You were healing. Finally healing and they weren’t going to leave you alone to face the world, the reality, all by yourself.
“We got you.” Becky whispers. “We got you.”
It was a reality you had not wanted to face for so long, but you had to accept it sooner than later. This was reality. A reality you had to face without Christen was something you never thought you had to do, but unfortunately it had come to that.
As much as you wanted closure, as much as you wanted to know why Christen had reacted the way she did those nights. You knew you probably wouldn’t ever know, but it was time to start to do what you never wanted. It was time do so, to face reality.

Midnight rain | Remus Lupin x Slytherin! Reader|
Tumblr media
Prompt/inspo:” Midnight rain” by Taylor Swift. Maybe a bit of “you're losing me”.
A/N: Maybe I’ll make part 2? First official fic I’ve written so might not be the best. Not edited.
Warnings: Some cussing (very little), first person POV, once again not edited, so bad grammar and potentially bad spelling. A little bit of out of character Remus and a bit of angst?
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“Why are you doing this? Com’n… did I do something?”
I could smell burnt wood and chocolate off of him, he wrapped his arms around me as I continued to do my homework. Homework that I desperately needed to finish.
“No, I just need to get this done Remus. Give me a minute.” I say, I get up and out of his arms, to walk over to my bookshelf looking for a book for transfigurations.
“Give it a break Y/N.” I looked at him for the first time tonight. His hair was a bit of a mess, he also looked tired, and you could see his eyes were a bit sleepy. He was in a sweater that Sirius gave him last year for Christmas and baggy jeans, something we could only wear on the weekends of hogwarts. “You’ve been studying 24/7, I haven’t talk to you in fucking days. And if we have talked all you do is reply with one word responses.”
“Remus. I’m trying to finish this. I’m just busy, I have things to do.” I say in a bit of a snappy voice. I just needed to get this homework done so I could get the rest of the weekend and following week off. But it was difficult chasing that outcome when you were constantly bombarded with requests from others.
“You’ve been busy ignoring me. Just stop for a few hours. Come sit with me, play chess with me, something!” He exclaimed, he looked hurt, his hands were in slight fists, not in a mad way but a desperate way.
“Like I said, I need to finish this. I’ll be done in a bit, just give me a minute. Just because you have everything done and set doesn’t mean I do! Just please Remmy. Give me a bit.”
He looked at me with desperate eyes but then slightly turned away to pick up the stuff he put on the desk. “Fine. I’ll see you… I’ll see you when you’re finally done.” He looked at me one last time and then went out the door without another word.
I put the book back on the shelf and walked over to my desk, I had a bit more pages to go and then I’ll be done. I’ll talk to him tomorrow if I end up finishing by tonight.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷
“Did you finish the homework for transfigurations?” Severus asked me as we walked to breakfast.
“Yea, I got it done last night. Did you do the potions homework?” I asked as we walked into the great hall, we went directly to the Slytherin table where Regulus and his friends sat.
“No, it’s not due until Friday. Did you finish it?” Severus asked, he smiled at me and continued. “I don’t even think I have to ask, do I?” He started to put toast and eggs on his plate as he talked.
“Of course. It’s better to get it done than wait. Hi Regulus.” I replied to Severus before acknowledging Regulus.
“Hi miss overachiever. How’s your guy’s morning?” Regulus asked, he looked between Sevurus and I. I laughed slightly before replying,
“My morning is nice so far, do you guys have any plans today? I need to go to Hogsmeade later so I can pick up a new book and quill, would you guys like to join me?” I asked, I finished my toast and eggs so I started to get up. I was waiting for them to reply but then I felt a tap on my shoulder that followed with a greeting. Turning around I was faced with Remus. “Oh. Hi.” I saw smiling a bit. I gave him a kiss on the cheek before pulling back. “Do you need anything?”
“I wanted to talk to you, can you come to the hall with me? Just for a bit.” He said pulling my hand a bit so I could move with him out of the great hall.
“Uh, yea sure.” We walk out of the great hall into the side corridors, it’s pretty cold in them due to it being mid winter.. “What do you need to talk about?” I ask as we face each other.
“I wanted to know if you wanted to go to dinner with me tonight,” He asked “I’m sorry for getting mad last night, I know you want to finish those things but sometimes I miss you. So will you go to dinner with me?”
I smiled before replying, “of course. And you don’t need to be sorry, I know I work a lot but I need to finish and do things like that.” I say pulling him closer. I smile up at him before giving him an actual kiss this time. I could feel him smile into the kiss as he put his hand on my waist.
This isn't something we do a lot, especially in public, people have and are very reluctant on a Slytherin and Gryffindor dating. It was hard to get both of our friends to fully accept but overall now it’s fine. But we still take precautions which means little to no PDA In Public. “I’ll see you tonight then? I can get you at 6:35?.”
“Yes Mr. Lupin. 6:35 is fine.” I say before walking away back into the great hall so Regulus, Severus and I can go to hogsmeade.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷
During dinner with Remus ~
“Well I mean I don’t know… maybe just go with the flow? Settle down?” Remus said he was in an old band tee that fit him oversized. We sat in a slightly dim ThreeBroomSticks while eating dinner.
“Settle down? Like…” I said kinda surprised, we talked about life in the future before, getting married and having kids. But I thought we would wait, not something right after hogwarts. I had plans and dreams to chase, I wanted to be known, and known in a good way and not in a bad way.
“Yea, settle down. Do you not want that? I thought you did.” He said he titled his head looking a bit sad and worried. He put down his fork and looked at me with his full attention.
“Yeah I did… but like right after hogwarts? Don’t you think that’s too soon? I want to travel and work, I just think we should wait.” I said slightly confused.
“Why wait? James and Lily are doing the same, and I bet they’ll still travel and work.” He wasn’t mad when he said this, but I could tell he was slightly offended. He pulled back his body so he would lean back onto the booth chair and crossed his arms. His face was slightly hurt but more so confused.
“But that’s James and Lily. They’ve said it over and over again that they don’t have anything big, they don’t have any big goals or dreams they want to complete. I want to and need to go after my goals, I don’t wanna settle down just like that, Remus. I want to make a name for myself.” I exclaimed. For me it was clear, I had goals and priorities, I wanted to work and do something meaningful for my life, I wanted to have a life that didn't revolve around a husband and kids. I didn’t wanna be a stay at home wife or a stay at home mom, I wanted something more, I wanted to chase that fame to make myself a name.
“It’s always about the fame for you isn’t it? Why do you need to be known far and wide? Those people won’t know you for who you are, I do. We talked about this, do you really not want this? Or that? Any of what we discussed?” He said, this time it was with anger however not loud, no one was really in here with us besides the servers and the bartenders so it wasn’t causing a scene.
“I want something for myself! Why is that so foreign? It’s not like I don’t want the stuff we discussed, I just assumed that we would wait a bit.”
“Y/N. Answer me honestly. If I were to ask you right now, if you wanted to marry me, would you say no?”
Once again I was surprised. I didn’t expect him to ask that. He looked at me with curious hurt eyes, it wasn’t something you see often from Remus. He was quiet and more closed off, so emotions vivid from his eyes weren't a very often thing to see. Nonetheless I didn’t know what to say, I knew what I wanted with my life but I didn’t want to throw his “proposal” away like nothing. Everytime I wanted to say something it didn’t sound right, or it didn’t come out. Eventually after opening my mouth slightly and then closing it once again Remus scoffed.
“Say something Y/N, choose something! Come on… really?” He said desperately. He looked at me as if I just killed him after I didn’t respond. He ran his hand through his hair before he got up and walked out, he didn’t look back once. He left.
I sat there confused on what to do. Does this mean we’re done and over? Did I just ruin everything? Did I lose the love of my life or was it not going to work? Was I crazy to want a name for myself?
I got up and paid, and I started to walk out the door. It was late, extremely late. I opened the door and it was raining. Midnight rain.

The “ Dear Diary Method “.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
* What is the “ Dear Diary Method “, And How do you do it ?
Tumblr media
It’s really simple. So what you do is for your desire(s) you write a diary entry acting as if you already have you desire ( which you do of course). You describe how it made you feel, what you did once you got your desire, how life felt or changed after you got your desire etc etc. You basically would describe how everything would be if you already had your desires. This is a good way to live in the end, You can script/Journal it Or type it in your notes or on a doc whatever works for you! I recommend doing this In the morning before you start your day or at night as revision, but there is no certain time to do it. You can do it whenever you want to, However you want to. You can add your own twist to it, Just have fun with it and live in the end!
Just in case there’s any confusion here’s two examples.
Example 1:
Dear Diary, Today my sp texted me begging for me back. I didn’t respond because I was so busy with chores so he started blowing up my phones texting and calling me and once I finally answered back she/he begged for me back and told me how much she/he loved me and missed me and how there’s no one like me because i’m one of a kind. Of course I already knew that. But then she/he asked me on a date. This weekend she/he will be taking me out to (desired location) … and so on. You would continue to describe how you want your date with your sp to go.
Example 2:
Dear Diary, Today I got my dream car. It had all my desired features. The first thing I did when I got my car was go to …. Then I went to … And then I did … Then I went and got my car washed and detailed. And then I went and bought decor for my new car.
Example 3:
Dear Diary, Today I manifested $1,000,000. I am so excited to have this much money, The first thing I did was go buy a house. And then I went to buy a G wagon and Lambo Truck. Tomorrow I will be buying a Boat and another house because i’m literally rich. Every time I spend money I get the money I spent back. I’m so happy to be rich. I’ve always booked a trip to italy since I have so much money.
Hoped the examples helped. If you give this method a try share your results, we wanna see you living your dream life hun. 🥰
*Another disclaimer*
If someone has already done this method then creds to them but I randomly thought of this a few months ago, i’m not stealing content just wanted to clarify that!

Robin and Eddie are sitting on the couch facing each other, talking about dumb shit before Eddie finally asks her what Steve’s deal is. Robin snorts. “I’ve known him almost a year now and your guess is as good as mine.”

"Nance and I have been in this together since the beginning. But it was never gonna be romantic between us again. I love her and always will, but we’re definitely not meant for each other.” Steve lets out a huff of a laugh. “Besides, I’m striking out with someone else pretty frequently.” He doesn’t know why he says it; the weed and the beers are combining to sabotage him probably. He hears Eddie shift next to him.
“King Steve’s lost his touch?” Steve can hear the smirk in Eddie’s voice as he says it.
“Oh, I lost it a long time ago,” Steve laughs into the night sky, rubbing a hand across his face.
OR: Steve and Eddie are both very dumb and very into each other.
it’s christmas (this is gonna be a nightmare) T, COMPLETE
“Okay, what’s wrong?” Robin asks him.
Steve takes a deep breath. “Nothings wrong.” He turns from the cutting board on the counter to look over at the two of them standing next to each other. They look skeptical. Steve takes another breath. “Okay, before I say anything, just remember that you guys are my friends and roommates and I always take out the trash at night when you guys are too scared and I take all the spiders you find in your rooms outside for you and you care about me deeply for a multitude of reasons, okay?”
Robin rolls her eyes and Eddie’s eyebrows crinkle in confusion. “Steve?” Eddie says, his voice calm. Steve turns back to the counter, facing away from them. Maybe if he doesn’t look directly at Eddie, it’ll be easier to say.
“I may or may not have implied to my mother that Eddie and I are dating and that’s why I’m bringing him home for Christmas,” Steve says in a rush, hoping that he won’t have to repeat himself.

Multi-chapter ‘fics
sorry about the blood in your mouth (i wish it was mine) M, COMPLETE, 10/10
Max had read every one of Eddie’s novels and every one of his screenplays. In every single one of them, in every universe that Eddie could think up, she watched as Eddie fell in love with Steve, over and over and over again. They had different names, different professions, there were different, wild, fantastical circumstances, but it was always them. In every version of reality, they found each other. It was time they found each other again in this version and Max was going to help them do it, even if it killed her.
OR: It's 1997, ten years after Eddie and Steve leave Hawkins. Eddie, a novelist/screenwriter, Max, Hollywood's shiniest scream queen, and Dustin, the hottest indie horror director in the business, reunite to make a movie and they're bringing the Party along with them to the middle of nowhere to do it.
when i don’t touch you it’s a mistake in any life, in each place and forever. M, COMPLETE, 12/12
If Eddie didn’t know any better, he would think that he’d slipped into an alternate dimension. A dimension where he was happy and not dead. A dimension where Steve Harrington sleeps in his bed—or maybe where he sleeps in Steve Harrington’s bed.
OR: Eddie dies. But then he wakes up next to a sleeping Steve Harrington.
it had to be you. M, WIP, 3/7
“You guys are gonna have a great time,” Dustin beams at them.
Steve lets his eyes take in all that is Eddie Munson, from his messy long hair to his Black Sabbath band tee to his painted black fingernails. He looks loud and obnoxious. Steve seriously doubts they’re going to have a great time. From the look on Eddie’s face, Steve imagines he’s thinking the same thing.
OR: It's the When Harry Met Sally AU that literally no one asked for.
oh my, love is a lie (shit my friends say to get me by) M, WIP, 1/4
“Is that—?” Robin starts, before she's interrupted by Dustin calling them over.
Because Eddie is Eddie. After Nancy had demolished Steve’s heart, he’d gone out for the weekend, Robin in tow. He’d drank enough to forget his own name and had ended up making some questionable decisions. One of those decisions had, apparently, been Eddie Munson. They’d spent two nights together, back in June, drenched in cheap beer and barely leaving Steve’s bed. On the afternoon of the second day, Eddie had left, saying he was going for a McDonald’s run, and Steve hadn’t seen him again. He hadn’t even left his number.
OR: Six months ago, Steve Harrington had his heart crushed by Nancy Wheeler. To cope, he'd rebounded in the worst way, spending two life-changing nights with the guy of his dreams. The only problem was that the guy had ghosted him, no number, no Insta handle; Steve didn't even get his last name. Now, he's resurfaced at Steve's Friendsgiving party, apparently Dustin Henderson's new best friend.
i can’t let go when something’s broken (it’s all i know and it’s all i want now) T, COMPLETE, 5/5 (also on tumblr here: part one part two part three part four part five)
Steve Harrington wakes up like he does every day, alone in his big bed with fluffy white sheets, weak sunlight streaming through the blinds on his windows. He rubs the sleep from his eyes, drinks the glass of water he put on his bedside table last night and swallows the aspirin next to it, and then climbs out from underneath the covers. He wanders into his bathroom to brush his teeth and shower, to fix his hair the way he likes it (a much less intensive process than it was when he was seventeen), and pulls on the same jeans he wears every day. He fixes himself breakfast—scrambled eggs and burnt bacon—and then he leaves for his shift at the coffeeshop.
The day passes slowly, like it always does. Steve makes small talk with the regulars, he laughs half-heartedly at Frank’s jokes, he pours espresso all over his hands. He cleans the tables and stacks the newspapers. He tries his hardest to ignore the new stack of Rolling Stones Frank has placed by the door.
monsters are always hungry M, WIP, 2/9 (Horror, ST4 rewrite)
Robin finally slides the tape all the way in to the VCR and Steve rolls his cart back over to the counter and leans over it, ready to watch some kid’s fourth birthday party or a Little League baseball game.
There’s nothing but static for the first thirty seconds.
“Maybe it’s blank?” Robin suggests, and just as she says it, the mess of snowy static shifts to a blood red screen before the images begin to flicker. The footage is grainy, like a real home video. The images are almost indistinguishable, but Robin and Steve can make out a big house, a front porch, a stained-glass window with a rose at the center. The cuts are choppy and jarring as the screen shifts quickly from one image to another in the blink of an eye. Cobwebs in the corner of a ceiling, spider eggs, limbs bent at inhuman angles, a child’s face.
The images stop, almost as quickly as they’d begun, and the television returns to static. Steve and Robin stand in silence for a minute before Steve rounds the counter and reaches up for the power button, turning the TV off.
OR: Steve and Robin watch a mysterious, unmarked tape they find in the returns bin at Family Video.
all of me changed like midnight. M, 4/11
In the fall of 1986, Eddie invites Steve and Robin to one of his shows at the Hideout. Steve is mesmerized by Eddie's performance, captivated by the way Eddie's hands move up and down his guitar, by the way Eddie's measured breaths deliver a strong and confident lyrical performance. When Steve compliments Eddie after the show, Eddie offers to teach Steve to play the guitar. Steve is completely taken by the whole project and a romance blooms, tender and soft, as they begin to speak through the music they play for each other.
Shortly after Steve confesses his love for Eddie, Eddie flees Hawkins, determined to live out his dreams as a rockstar and convinced that's not what Steve wants for himself. Steve and Robin move to Indy, where they begin playing open mics at the coffeeshop Steve works at. Steve finds that songwriting is the perfect way to give voice to his feelings of grief, love, and abandonment.
The fic spans ten years as Steve and Eddie weave their way in and out of each other's lives, writing songs that can only be meant for each other.
