Aziraphale, I love you. But you lied. And here's why.
Okay. I’m not gonna beat around the bush for too long. It’s time now for me to also throw my try at a personal Good Omens Season 2 Magnum Opus into the mix of already existing magnum op..i? Opusses? (Smited? Smote?)
If I’m honest, it isn’t fully my own magnum opus, as I read this meta not too long ago that made me go: „Oh! My God! That’s it!“ And I’m pretty sure a lot of other people have clocked this too by now. Of course I’m not saying it’s the objective truth but after having mulled it over for many endless nights and days, wading through the onslaught of coffee theories, body swap theories, The Metatron re-writing the Book of Life theories and many, many more, this is the one I think is most plausible and, if you look closely, most obvious.
And it goes as such: Aziraphale lied.
To all of us. All of them. And most of all, to Crowley. He lied to him. Well, he sort of did and also sort of didn’t. He certainly didn’t tell the truth. At least not all of it. I hear you ask: “OP, what the fuck are you talking about”. I answer you: Let’s start from the top and under the cut.
(Small note: this meta ended up being way too large for Tumblr, which is why I will redirect you to an external doc at the end of the post, where I have written it all down nicely and accurately. It's about 35 digital A4-pages long, just in case you want to save it for later.)
(Word count: 12.831 | Approximate reading time: 50 minutes)
Let’s start with a short recap of what happens before the Metatron crashes the bookshop party and everything goes to shit. The proper visuals for this are in my Tumblr post but I am absolutely convinced that right up until when the Metatron comes to take Aziraphale away and talk to him, the angel is fully ready to get into Crowley’s Bentley-chariot and finally ride off into the sunset (or Alpha Centauri-set or whatever). You can see it in his face and body language. You can see when the penny drops for him that a) Crowley loves him b) he loves Crowley and c) they can finally start their happily ever after. Aziraphale realizes this all throughout said Brielzebub reveal in the bookshop. And he’s such a lost cause once he does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, look at that. Look at it. This (very shitty recording, sorry, I'm not tech-savvy enough to avoid the Amazon Prime screen recording blocker) is the very second Aziraphale realizes hat Crowley loves him. When he hears him suggest Alpha bloody Centauri as a getaway for Gabriel and Beelzebub, as Crowley has done to Aziraphale for so, so many times now. He finally understands what Crowley was trying to tell him with that all those times.
Aziraphale realizes this all throughout the Brielzebub reveal in the bookshop. And he’s such a lost cause once he does.
Right when Crowley suggest Alpha Centauri as a nice getaway spot to the two, Aziraphale looks at him and he gets it. That Crowley has loved him, has been loving him for millennia. Truthfully, they've both known that for a long while now. But there's a difference between knowing, wanting, craving and actually being able to finally have something. And that's exactly what we see on Aziraphale's face here. This is it. This is where it all starts working out for Crowley and him. This is were they can start their eternity together.
So from that second on, Aziraphale only has eyes for Crowley. He keeps physically pawing at Crowley with complete heart eyes, as if to say „Look, look, that’s gonna be us too! Finally!" He’s actually so smitten that he doesn’t even hear what Crowley is saying when he asks Shax if he can have back his apartment now because he’s sick of living in his car. (Also, what way to drop that bomb right in this moment Crowley, lmao).
Once the Metatron comes in, the first thing Aziraphale says is that they don’t need to talk because „he’s made his position quite clear“. He doesn’t even want to talk to the Metatron, because in his mind, he’s already made the choice. Actually, he made the choice way before the bookshop showdown. For starters, I’m convinced that the Jane Austen Ball actually never was for Maggie and Nina but for Crowley and him (you can read more about that here). And apart from that, for this whole season we have seen Aziraphale trying to advance his relationship with Crowley romantically and domestically and move them to the literal next base (our car!). And after everything he just witnessed with Brielzebub, the final nail in the coffin of ethereal-infernal romance being possible, his choice is absolutely crystal clear: It’s Crowley. It’s always been Crowley and it always will be Crowley. And now it can be Crowley. They can be an us.
The whole of Season 2 is such a massive learning curve for Aziraphale’s character, with him remembering all those important pivotal points of his past,  and this very moment is the peak, with him not only understanding that Crowley loves him (because he certainly knew for quite some centuries now) but accepting that love, letting himself have that love, being allowed to want that love and taking that love and starting their new and final chapter with it. Nevertheless, the plot clock ticks for them. The Metatron saunters into the bookshop, evil and stinky as Metatrons do, and urges Aziraphale to come with him with his whole Take The Coffee schtick, which I will get into later. And Aziraphale, immediately sensing there’s Something Up, does. Can’t really turn down someone as high-ranking as the the voice of God, after all. Even if you were currently already planning how you were going to elope with a certain red-haired serpent of Eden.
he next time we see Aziraphale on screen, it’s so painfully evident on his face that he is neither happy nor excited. Not even the slightest bit. We’d know if he was, thanks to Mr. Michael master-of-microexpressions Sheen. None of the usual “Aziraphale is happy”-signs are there. No blinding eye-smile, no giddy wriggling, not giggles and gasps. No, when the Metatron tells Aziraphale to „go tell your friend the good news“, his expression looks like this:
Tumblr media
I’m gonna go out on an entire limb here and say: That does not look like someone who’s absolutely tickety-boo hyped to tell his demon soulmate that he just got the juiciest promotion and that they can both be angels and live happily ever after in ethereal eternity now.
This, folks, looks like someone who knows exactly that the news he has to break right now, are going to be tickety-shit awful and very upsetting to said demon soulmate. And already, from that very short snippet of conversation, we can tell that Aziraphale isn’t really given a choice by the Metatron. Because while the Metatron does tell him that he doesn’t have to „answer right away“, he immediately follows it up by: „Go ahead and tell your friend the good news!“ Very distinct and definitive choice of words here. It’s “good news” because it’s already been decided. Because it’s already a done deal. There is no “yes, no, maybe”. This is the only choice he’s giving to Aziraphale. Because it’s ‘Coffee or death’.
And he already gave him the coffee.

Tumblr won't let me continue this over a certain character limit and I am not even remotely done yet – so, I feel like this is a good moment to redirect you to the continuation of this insane meta before we're in too deep. You can do so right here!
I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions about this once you've fought your way through it. Hope you have a good time with it!

*dings the bell* … I’m back.
My Ukrainian friend made potato salad! It has cucumbers, carrots, onion, & canned green peas in it, and it’s absolutely delicious!
Sooo… can I ask what moment/scene you found the most devastating so far? I guess The KissTM is the most popular but I wonder if you’ve spotted something even more heartbreaking?
Hi @procrastiel Much love to you and your Ukrainian friend & please thank her again for me for the recipe as we made it and it was delicious. 💕Hope she's doing well. The KissTM is pretty heartbreaking for sure but I had a couple of moments that I found at least equally as heartbreaking...
The blues below the cut. TW: Depression.
Tumblr media
What really got me in S2, in terms of heartbreaking stuff, was the focus on the less "showier" kinds of depression in Aziraphale and Gabriel. I'm not dismissing the amazing Crowley story the show has been telling but it tends to be more overt. The story focusing on depression lingering beneath different types of exteriors-- those who project themselves as being upbeat and/or fine-- was really well-executed and it had moments as devastating to me as the kiss.
The "but that's for professional conjurers only" scene and, in particular, the choices made in Aziraphale's response to Crowley's "my Nefertiti-fooling fellow" response is probably my favorite bit of acting in the series entirely to date. Michael Sheen broke me into little pieces with the way he conveyed a lifetime of pain, depression, anxiety and sleepless nights in Aziraphale's eyes on the "professional conjurers" bit and the smile...
Tumblr media
...I love how you literally watch the pain of it all melt off his face at Crowley gently reassuring him and the smile that starts and then becomes just a beam of love he can't keep off his face. It's gorgeous.
It's actually what makes The Final 15 hurt even more, really, I think-- because you know that this is what Aziraphale needed. It's the same core set of problems but he needed 1941!Crowley and he got AlphaCentuari!Crowley because of where they both were at in the moment. It just makes 2.06 even more brutal because it shows you how they do understand each other and how right they are for each other if they could just stop being idiots lol.
I also actually think this is one of the most intimate scenes in the show. It shows a lot of guts on Aziraphale's part to be honest about how he's feeling and that's courage that Aziraphale has in general but was lacking a bit in the present in S2. He lets Crowley in here-- which is the theme of all of it and what he's not doing in S2 very much, especially in 2.06-- and we get a scene where Aziraphale is vulnerable and hurting and trusts Crowley with it and Crowley is there to help him as much as Aziraphale helps Crowley. It's very sweet and romantic but in a heartbreaking way because of how it shows how much pain Aziraphale is carrying around with him all the time. The lovely bit, though, is how it also shows how Crowley knows and is trusted with it. That it all takes place in largely the same space as the mess in 2.06? Gah. Devastating...
The other storyline that broke me was Gabriel. I know not everyone has the empathy for him that I do and he can be a total jerk, no doubt, but I thought he was the best example of the show bringing in other perspectives on life in Heaven/Hell in S2. We had angles like Furfur and Muriel illustrating that life for those not on Earth is lonely, isolating and boring and that many are yearning to live a bit more. Crowley and Aziraphale have not had it easy by any means but we are given characters whose perspective is that they're jealous that Crowley and Aziraphale have at least been able to be on Earth and have one another this whole time, which is more than a lot of other angels and demons can say, and that's fair. Expanding upon the glimpses of Gabriel that we saw in S1 and showing that, really, he's more complicated than we might have expected, was something I both loved and was a bit broken by.
Essentially, S2 shows that Gabriel is actually arguably the worst off character of all of them-- Crowley and Aziraphale included. That he really had no one until Beez is shown on his face so well-- Jon Hamm and Shelley Conn selling Gabriel's depression and how healthy this relationship is in almost no time at all really shows how great they both are. Look at this poor bastard, though, really...
Tumblr media
He has the worst job of all of them. The Metatron is really in charge of Heaven-- Gabriel's the pretty face, forced to keep everything going or be killed for disobeying. S2 emphasizes how much he and Beez did what they did at the end of S1 basically at gunpoint-- it was kill or be killed and neither of them have the power to overthrow anything on their own. They have enough power, in the future, to probably help sway some things. Gabriel's always had enough power to make differences where he could and he used it to try to protect people. He can be a judgy jerk but he also fundamentally cares about the people around him and he's been drilled for so long into believing that upholding Heaven is his only purpose and only reason for existence that he's even still mulling over the ghosts of those thoughts when he has his whole gravity crisis in S2, even when he can't remember his name.
This is the bit that got me actually teary, though:
Tumblr media
Imagine being thousands of years old and no one's ever given you a present. You don't have a birthday. You don't celebrate holidays. No one's ever protected you or been on your side or even just listened. You don't have any friends because everyone is afraid of you and you have to put up those pretensions to stay alive. The people you spend your entire life with are out for blood-- they'd sooner see you stripped of your sense of self and tossed through the ranks or to Hell and take your seat. Your life is one, long, never-ending meeting with your abusive dad and charming personalities like Michael and Uriel and Sandalphon. For six. thousand. years. Gabriel had never eaten anything before S2. He's never slept. Imagine six thousand years of being the Senior VP of Climb Every Bullshit Mountain without ever having a lunch break or ever going home. It's kind of no wonder that Gabriel spent half of S2 taking a nap-- he's exhausted.
He's not from anywhere. He doesn't even have a desk. Is it any wonder that this poor bastard was already rebelling a bit in S1? That he didn't totally get Earth but he was sneaking down there to get tailored suits made just so he could have something that is his own and taking himself for jogs in the park so he could get away from everyone for awhile? He's vain, sure, yes, but really because his looks are all he has that actually belong to him. It's why Beez gives him a pass on the statue-- because they know that this poor guy doesn't have anybody but them. The humans immortalize him in marble like he's a God and everyone in Heaven and Hell is terrified of him-- and he's been terrified of trying to be real with others because who is he going to trust who won't stab him in the back?
All Gabriel has that is his own are his clothes and Heaven even takes that, too. Beez is the first person who has ever seen Gabriel as a person. Is it any wonder why Gabriel likes and goes to Aziraphale for help? He knows that Aziraphale is the only angel who is both kind and sorta sees him there sometimes. He's the only one who ever seems to consider that Gabriel might exist in there as more than just The Supreme Archangel.
Gabriel's memory loss is actually very much akin to the real world occurrence of retrograde amnesia, which can and does actually happen to people who have undergone traumatic events. (It doesn't happen all the time but it's also not as rare as you'd think it might be.) The mind shuts down in such a way as to intentionally forget everything related to the trauma in order to protect itself and that can sometimes result in a loss of identity. The forgetting, though, also frees Gabriel because when he can no longer recall the fascist system of Heaven that has been harming him for so long, the actual self that he's been repressing and hiding shows up.
I see a lot of people talk about Jim as if he's a separate entity from Gabriel and he's really not-- he's Gabriel without the self-protective airs that Gabriel puts on. Jim is really not much different from glasses-free Crowley-- they have the same approach to self-preservation. It turns out, when he's free from the toxic masculinity hellscape that is Heaven, Gabriel likes hot chocolate and tiny dinners and bookselling and is emotionally available and mindfully curious about everything. He's a lot of fun and he cares about his friends and is grateful to have them. He's still a snarky bitch sometimes but so is Crowley lol so... That Gabriel was so miserable before, though, I thought was really pretty heartbreaking.
Now that I've depressed you, we'll leave on the sweeter note of Gabriel torturing some humans to romance Beez...

Go For a Picnic. Dine at the Ritz...
Okay, I've got an absolutely miserable take on the 1967 scene in the Bentley, after Aziraphale gives Crowley the tartan thermos of holy water.
‼️TRIGGER WARNING‼️, this is going to get a little dark with Aziraphale's assumptions about Crowley's suicidal ideations. Be careful, please.
We all know Crowley has been pining after holy water. (In my dismal opinion, whatever was done to him after he saved Elspeth's soul from damnation in 1827 must have been horrendous, and that's where this request came from.) He asked for it in 1862 when he met with Aziraphale in St. James Park, and was turned down.
And we all already know exactly what Aziraphale thought he wanted it for.
Tumblr media
We also know he discovered in 1941 that it was available in churches. No guards surrounding it, and that anyone could just go in and take it.
"Look at that! A whole fontful of holy water. It doesn't even have guards." (His genuine surprise that it's just THERE for the taking.)
Anyway that's not what this is about - this is about Aziraphale's response in 1967.
Obviously, we're all hooked on:
Tumblr media
Because, ouch these poor babies really know how to ruin our lives.
So many meanings here. The obvious - you drive like an absolute mad lad and I don't want to be discorporated in a car accident (good lord, the paperwork). The less obvious but definitely there - you jump into things so quickly, I can't keep up.
BUT I'm stuck on this bit:
Tumblr media
In my first watch through, I didn't think much of it. "Don't look so disappointed." We can hang out later. I just don't want to drive with you when it's not necessary because you're absolutely terrifying behind the wheel. I'm not telling you to fuck off, call me for dinner some time.
BUT NOW, on my... 5th? 6th? I'm losing track (and my mind) watch, I see it as... begging? As Aziraphale not knowing how to articulate what he's feeling, but desperately trying to communicate it to Crowley anyway.
Because he still thinks Crowley wants the holy water as a way to destroy himself.
I see it as something along the lines of this miserable list;
Please don’t kill yourself.
I need you to not go through with this.
I don’t want to withhold my companionship from you, but I need you to look forward to our time together later so you don't do this now.
I’m not going to spend time with you now, I can’t let you use it as some final goodbye in your mind.
We can go for a picnic, please stay alive long enough for us to do that.
We can dine at the Ritz, please stay alive long enough for us to go there.
And, to be honest, watching it through again with this lens, I wonder if Aziraphale is more grateful for Crowley's company every time they see each other because he didn't go through with it.
I wish I could find a better way to articulate this, and the way it wrings out my heart like a wet rag, but here we are.
Enjoy my misery with me.

don’t have to write anything if you don’t want, but i think aziraphale is the absolute king of reassuring you your body is beautiful no matter what size you are. he finds the human shape so fascinating and wonderful he simply can’t imagine it that you don’t think so, as well. feeling self conscious? skipping on your favorite dessert? he knows just what to say to make you feel better. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Tumblr media
notes: what a sweet prompt! this is 100% true as well
pairing: aziraphale x reader
rating: M
cw: negative self image, discussion of weight
Tumblr media
The two of you are having lunch, which is one of your favourite things to do. To be honest anything with Aziraphale is your favourite thing to do. Just being with him makes things better. The two of you polish off your plates at the same time, and he delicately wipes his mouth with the edge of a serviette, acting as if he hasn’t just wolfed down enough ravioli to feed a small family.
“Gosh, that was delicious,” he says, grinning. You can’t help but agree.
“You do have the best knack for picking out places to eat, Aziraphale.”
“One of my hidden talents,” he says with a wink. It makes you feel a bit warm and flustered, and you’re thankful when the waiter comes over to clear the table.
“Would you like to see the dessert menu?” he asks.
“Ooh, yes,” Aziraphale says, at the same time you reply “not today thank you.”
Aziraphale looks surprised, before turning to the waiter.
“Sorry my dear chap, can you give us a moment please?”
The waiter nods and heads off. Aziraphale fixes you with a look that makes you feel scrutinised. You squirm inwardly in your chair.
“You always get dessert,” he says, confused. You shrug.
“I don’t fancy one today.”
He narrows his eyes.
“You say it’s your favourite part of the meal.”
“Yes, well, I can change my mind!”
“Something’s wrong,” he states, and he’s right. “Tell me what, my dear.”
“I just… feel like I don’t need it.”
“Don’t need it?”
“I just think I’m a bit fat.”
Aziraphale looks at you like you’ve just kicked a puppy.
“What?”
“Don’t make me say it again,” you beg. Your angel furrows his brow, utterly bemused.
“I don’t understand, love. Why would that be a problem?”
You flail for an answer, but end with a shrug.
“Do you mind the weight you are?” he asks gently.
“I don’t know. Not really, I suppose.”
“So why try to change it?” He looks absolutely horrified for a moment. “Is it because you think I care?”
“No! I know you don’t mind about silly things like that.”
“Then why?”
You shrug.
“I feel like I ought to be thinner, is all. I don’t know. I just… do.”
Aziraphale looks around furtively before scooting in closer. His hand sits on your knee, comforting, but something else too. Something a little more raw.
“Do you think your weight has any impact on your worth, my darling? On your soul?”
“Well—”
“Do you?”
“No,” you admit at length.
“And does it not make you feel good to eat? Do you think that your body doesn’t deserve nourishment, that you should starve yourself?”
“… I suppose I shouldn’t do that.”
“And,” Aziraphale adds, voice low, closing the gap between you even further, “do you not think I’d worship you no matter what size you were? Do you not think that I enjoy sinking my hands into you, leaving marks, feeling your thighs wrap tightly around me when I make love to you? Do you not think I see every roll as a piece of art, every stretch as a mosaic? You’re the finest thing I’ve ever laid eyes on.”
“Aziraphale!” you giggle, swiping at him with a napkin. He catches your hand and kisses it.
“I’d have you here on the table if I could. Show everyone just how much I love your body. Love you. But management might have something to say.”
You laugh and accept the kiss he offers you, just shy of indecent.
“Have dessert with me. Damn what they think.”
And so you do.

so anyways thinking about Muriel trying to learn more about humans and watching TV and such and how they would absolutely undeniably be OBSESSED with Bluey once they discovered it. how they would immediately feel connected to characters that are also learning more about the world around them everyday and being proud of themselves for slowly picking up on jokes for the older audience and such. which is a fun thought by itself. BUT THEN.
this brings to mind Muriel wanting to show Bluey to Crowley and Aziraphale (this takes place sometime after season 3 where they're all a family again), and Crowley's like "yeah everyone Below tried really hard to stop it from getting distributed in the US, big blow for us" to which Aziraphale replies "oh yes I spoke with the angel that worked on it, they got quite the promotion!"
anywho both of them try to get out of watching it because "it's a bloody kids show" and "I'm really not too fond of modern television" but Muriel is making puppy dog eyes so OBVIOUSLY they're gonna cave in eventually.
and at first they're not really paying TOO much attention, Aziraphale is charmed by the soundtrack and animation and Crowley does snort at "this isn't the eighties anymore" but like obviously they're not INTO it, they can just admittedly see why Muriel likes it. and then. AND THEN. THE BLUEY EFFECT.
pause. we all know of the Bluey phenomenon. like oh it's this kids show for babies like peppa pig to -> oh there's some fun jokes for the parents here the teachers really like it to -> oh god I'm a 22 year old mentally ill queer person who's been sobbing my eyes out on tiktok for ten minutes why didn't my dad ever love me.
something something the soft gentle tone of the show and its lessons combined with how honest and blunt they are about things combined with the kind and powerful parenting displayed by the main family. it breaks people. it heals wounds. it gets through to those repressed issues. we all know the bluey effect.
NOW. THAT'S FUCKING HUMANS. NOW IMAGINE THAT WITH THESE FUCKERS.
literally centuries worth of repressed trauma, NO emotional intelligence or awareness whatsoever, every mental barrier you can think of, literally mommy issues from GOD, and on top of it all, they're an angel and a demon right so obviously they don't need to worry about petty human things like "therapy" and "coping skills" and "talking through issues" and "boundaries" and ""self-worth"".
BLUEY WOULD FUCKING BREAK THEM.
like oh yes this is a charming show but I'm not sure it's quite for me and then BOOM. Aziraphale gets hit with "there's something going on with me" "does your outside voice sometimes say yes when your inside voice says no?" "I don't think I know how to relax" "I just... felt like I was doing everything wrong"
like wow angel are you actually crying over cartoon dogs you're so emotional and then BOOM. Crowley gets hit with the "you don't need to keep coming back to this place" "he should take care of himself because I still need him" "now you've got all that upset and angry in your hands- do you want to keep it?" "why can’t she just have the thing she wants?"
ALL OF A SUDDEN MURIEL LOOKS UP AND OH MY GOD I MADE MY DADS CRY I'VE NEVER SEEN THEM CRY BEFORE OH NO OH NO WHAT DO I DO UMMM NINA MAGGIE PLEASE COME TO THE BOOKSHOP I THINK I BROKE THEM ON ACCIDENT
i'm just saying if aziraphale and crowley had been blueypilled before then maybe there would've actually been some fucking nightingales ok.

Fanatic Intervention Part 6!!
Not much to say here this time. I'm glad you all are enjoying this. I'm having a blast! :D
Beginning || Previous || Next
*****************
After a while you speak.
“Well,” You say, “I can tell you what we’re not doing. We are not going to see Mr. Gaiman. Honestly, Crowley, the man is a genius, but he is also a troll. He doesn’t give away plot – if anything he gives the most chaotic response he can think of, and then tells you to wait and see. SO, that wouldn’t help us at all.”
Muriel is the next to speak.
“Um, also I don’t think those other angels are on earth?”
“Would we know if they were?” You say, looking to Aziraphale. The principality shrugs.
“To be honest, I really don’t know. It was such a long time ago.”
“Okay,” You say, “So we call up Anathema, and we go to America to look for Jesus. I mean...the things that Neil and Terry plotted out did happen, even if they weren’t all identical to the book. So it’s probably safe to assume that the pattern will continue.”
“Right,” Aziraphale says, reaching for his rotary phone, “I’ll call Miss Device.”
“Hold on,” Crowley says, “Who’s this we who’s going to America?”
“You, Aziraphale, Anathema, Me,” You say, “Muriel needs to stay here and look after the bookshop. Maybe Newt could --”
“And what makes you think you’re coming?” The demon presses.
“The fact that I dropped in from another reality, know everything that has happened so far, and is the only one with half an idea of what’s going to happen next. Also Anathema is going to need help wrangling the two of you.”
“Whassat supposed to mean?”
“You’re a pair of Disaster Puppies.”
Crowley opens his mouth again, offended.
“Trouble does seem to find us an awful lot,” Aziraphale says. Clearly he’s decided to give you the benefit of the doubt. You make a mental note that he is not upset with being called a Disaster Puppy for some reason. Priorities maybe?? You let it go.
“Great,” You say, “So it’s settled.”
------------
All things considered, it doesn’t take very long for Anathema and Newt to arrive. Apparently they happened to be visiting London. What are the chances of that? It’s almost like this is a work of fiction that I am writing and so I can make things surprisingly convenient if I want to. Now, let’s continue.
It takes longer to answer Newt’s questions than it does to fill Anathema in on the situation. You’re grateful for her sharp mind and willingness to accept things that are...well...difficult to just accept. Probably comes with being a witch/occultist. Once they both know the full story, and Newt’s curiosities are satisfied, Anathema nods.
“Okay,” she says, “Right. So we need to save the world again, and we’re hinging all of our bets on finding Jesus and successfully convincing him to help us? Seems...like a long shot. Like, a really long shot.”
“These two have managed to succeed with implausible plans before,” You point out. Anathema hums. She doesn’t seem convinced.
“I mean, it’s not that I mind helping you. Jesus probably has the kind of aura that I could find and track without too much trouble. I would just...really have appreciated that if you were going to interrupt our getaway that you would at least have a backup plan. Or, maybe some intel that’s actually intelligence instead of guesses. Like if Aziraphale had actually been in Heaven as the Supreme Archangel, he could have been feeding us information and instructions. And then we would know for sure where to go and what to do.”
Oh. A rock sinks to your stomach. And you suppose that after making them ward the bookshop like that then...needing to leave it...you just might have accidentally put a target on your backs. Whoops. Turns out saving the world one step at a time is really, really hard.
“That would have been way too dangerous though!” You say, desperate for your own defense, “I’m not putting these two in anymore danger than absolutely necessary. I….” You look over at your beloved angel and demon, then turn back to Anathema. “I need them to be okay,” You admit quietly. That’s what it’s all about for us, isn’t it? All the theories, all of the South Down Cottage manifesting. The fanart, the fanfiction, the edits and animatics. We love them and while we understand that they need to go through angsty things to grow, in the end we need them to be okay.
Well, most of us anyway. I can’t speak for everyone.
You feel a hand on your shoulder. Aziraphale is there once again.
“And we will be,” he says softly. You hear Anathema sigh.
“Right,” she says, “okay, so we head to America. I need to go home first and get my supplies. Newt will stay here with Muriel and help them hold the fort.”
“Um...this is a bookshop?” Muriel adds uncertainly.
“I bet,” Newt says slowly, “That if I help a few people around here with their computers, I might make enough mischief to convince Heaven that there’s still a demon around here. Then that looks almost like you’re still here, right? Might buy you some time at least.”
“It’s worth a shot,” Anathema says. Muriel practically glows.
“Oh! I get to live with an actual human! You can teach me human things!”
“Oh, uh yeah,” Newt says, “I don’t see why not. It’ll be fun.”
Anathema agrees to return with Newt in two days. She expects you lot to sort out the plane tickets “Because,” she says, “I am not having you fly me over, or poof me over, or whatever it is that you do.”
“I am a demon! I do not poof!”
“I don’t care. I want plane tickets.”
“Ooh!” You say, raising your arm in the air with a jump. “Can they be first class? I’ve never flown first class before!”
Crowley groans. Aziraphale sighs.
“We are not genies,” Aziraphale says, “Or banking machines.”
“No, but you do have unlimited resources so in a way,” You say, pausing for dramatic effect, a mischievous smile spreading from ear to ear, “You are like Santa Claus!”
You make a fast exit from the room before Aziraphale can say anything. Crowley is laughing and you hear what you think is a chair falling over.

I'M FUCKING SCREAMING BECAUSE I HAVE A THEORY ABOUT THE KISS AND I AM LOSING MY ABSOLUTE MIND OVER IT
It relates back to my other theory, which to summarize in case you don't feel like reading all that, goes like this:
Something went wrong with the miracle, it doesn't just affect whether people notice and remember Gabriel but can affect any of their memories about anything and we're already starting to see signs that it's been happening.
[EDIT: I'm no longer attached to the idea that the miracle is what's fucking with people's memories, but I'm positive that something (probably Metatron) is. Still leaving the original text the same]
It goes a bit deeper than that, but that's the basics of what you need to know for THIS theory and I'm sure you can already see where I'm going with this, or at least where I'm going with the first half of it. This is a two part theory.
The first part, as you've probably guessed, is that Aziraphale reacts to the kiss the way he does because he's already lost too much of their history together. And we have no way of knowing how much. I don't actually think it's a whole lot at this point. But maybe enough. Just barely enough to shift the way that Aziraphale views the nature of their relationship.
Now if we're being completely honest here, there's no way Aziraphale was going to have a positive reaction to that kiss. Too much has just happened. 6000 years worth of bridges just went down in flames, something vital just broke and they both know it.
This theory isn't really based on the fact that he reacted badly to the kiss, because of course he did, how could he not? This is more about a few very specific moments during his reaction. I could probably fill a library analyzing everything that was going on there, but
When Crowley first starts his confession Aziraphale seems puzzled, like he's not quite sure where all this is coming from or what Crowley is trying to get at. It's as though the thought of them together has never even crossed his mind before, and I think we're pretty much all in agreement that yes it goddamn well has.
And it only gets worse from there. His expression when Crowley first pulls him into the kiss? It's like a punch in the gut every single time. Even though a multitude of emotions flash across his face in the next few seconds, it doesn't matter. You can already see how it's going to play out. Even though every fiber of your being screams that this can't be right, that one look already told you everything you need to know.
And then Aziraphale puts his hand on Crowley's shoulder, and for one wild and desperate moment you feel an aching surge of hope, because at least he's finally returning Crowley's embrace. Things are still dire, so many things are so wrong, and there's still no clear path to fix any of it. But he's returning Crowley's embrace, and no matter what happens next, there's hope.
But then the moment passes and you realize....you were wrong. You misunderstood. There was no embrace. There was only a split second careless placement of Aziraphale's hand. They break apart, and for several seconds there is an absolute war of emotions on his face, but then his expression hardens, and he says "I forgive you", and it is the single worst thing you have ever heard uttered in your life
But let's talk about something else for a minute, and it's going to seem slightly off topic at first, but bear with me. You know how there are brief moments when Jim recalls a memory as Gabriel for a few seconds?
The first time is when they're trying to figure out the first thing he remembers and rather than recalling any of his memories as Jim, he recalls a memory as Gabriel. The second time it happens is the time he gets ominous. "There will come a tempest." And then one last time, when he finally has a snippet of a memory about where his actual memory might be. And you know what all of those have in common?
Crowley.
Every single time Gabriel's memory starts to break through, it's Crowley who triggers it.
Crowley is the one who asks him, "What's the very first thing you remember?"
It's when Crowley says the word 'tempest' that Gabriel resurfaces and starts talking about a tempest and dire things to come.
Crowley asks him, "Well where is your memory then?" And Jim suddenly remembers about the matchbox.
Coincidence? Maybe. But it got me thinking. What if there's something about Crowley, some kind of innate ability to pull these memories to the surface, without even knowing he's doing it? And then, when I was watching the kiss for about the millionth time, another thought occured to me.
What if I was right??? What if, in that one brief instant of absolute fucking lunatic hope, I was right? Aziraphale WAS embracing him, he WAS returning the kiss. Because Crowley had pulled enough of what had been lost to the surface, enough that he remembered, if only for one brief second, he remembered what they were to each other.
I HAVE NOT KNOWN PEACE FOR A SINGLE SECOND SINCE THE MOMENT THIS THOUGHT OCCURED TO ME

Answering asks below
Tumblr media
Hi! I am, thank you!
Aw thank you for saying I’m objective, I do try 😅
You’ve complimented me so much my day just became even better that’s for sure!
So apparently well known stalkers were at the press night - which would explain why DT and GT didn’t show up and MS quickly left too. Whether that was the reason they didn’t show up I obviously can’t confirm but it sounds like a decent excuse if it’s true. There had to be a decent reason because David wouldn’t be showing his love on the opening night and on the press night if they didn’t show up because they didn’t care or whatever - I mean I’m sure even haters wouldn’t think that lmao. Or maybe it was something simple like sickness in family or he was doing something for work. Don’t know. Wouldn’t worry about it tbf.
I have a feeling that the day David took a selfie in front of the poster at the theatre, he went to see the final rehearsal before the big night. We know he was there for Michael which was sweet. Somehow more than going to the press night if I’m honest…
He will probably officially see it on another day.
Tumblr media
I think it’s projecting and being so deep in their made up fantasy that they actually rejected the actual canon and made up their own and they believe it’s the true one. I have never ever been in a fandom that completely disregarded the canon. It’s like the fandom had a collective lobotomy.
I don’t want to be part of it. It was awesome at the beginning when people were normal but now it just upsets me. I hate seeing Crowley being reduced to nothing by this fandom because they have a need to make Aziraphale something he’s never shown to be. Plus I don’t think that majority of people are even aware how normal healthy relationships look like anymore. Both characters have been made the opposite of what they have shown to be over two seasons and on top of it made the extreme. It is just so striking because I’ve never ever witnessed before someone completely ignoring everything about characters and obsessing over 1 second scene and basing the whole personality of a character on it. What the fuck happened. Especially since the characters are so bloody good the way they are but the fandom just shat on it all.
The objectification and extreme sexualisation obsession is giving me creeps too. Especially with taking a character like Crowley who’s shown to escaping psychopaths who control people yet forcing him into a fucked up relationship, objectifying him, and reducing to nothing, making him brainless and dependant, and saying he’d love that. And making a fuck up out of Aziraphale too who’d love to do that to him and have a need to be a creep like that. Seriously fuck off. Nothing gave me bigger creeps in this fandom. How do people miss the point of the show so badly is beyond me. How do people see a character and make him the absolute opposite of what he’s shown to be is beyond me too.
I can’t rewatch the show at the moment because I watch scenes and wince what the fandom did with them. I hope that I disassociated enough that by the time S3 comes I won’t remember the sick theories and I will watch in peace with a clear mind just like I watched S2.
I definitely won’t be here to see what people thought about it to not ruin it for me again 🤣
Tumblr media
If NG puts these two in the show, nobody will even notice them apart from fans obsessed with DT’s wife and MS’s female partner. And yes their fans will care more about that than everything else or pretend that online. But the 90% that remains will only care about the story and Michael and David.
It would be a turn off for me too but you know what I’ve been thinking - why worry about it? It’s years away. Maybe we won’t give a crap about GO by then because our lives will completely change, or the show will never actually be finished, or their scenes will be cut out, or they won’t actually be in it, or… there is literally zero point worrying about this, honestly.
I don’t trust Neil 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope that things aren’t as bad as they look because I’d question why dude kept on knocking her up if he’s as unhappy as he likes to show sometimes or with the songs he always chooses for them.
I hope that whenever she’s being humiliating or snarky or tries to put him down, or tries to make his accomplishments about herself, he thinks about being a national treasure with massive accomplishments on his back after having zero privilege, while she was born with privilege and had everything handed on a plate and yet she accomplished nothing apart from scoring a man, by getting pregnant on a one night stand and stalking him, who will need to support her until the end and she’s dependant on that. So what she was rich then when now he’s rich and she’s dependant on his money. His recent inserts about her felt so rehearsed and forced it was borderline sad. If he felt them they’d feel genuine so I think he knows what the truth is.
Her attitude only highlights her insecurity. Insecure and unhappy people bring others down instead of being happy for them. To have so much privilege and do nothing with it, yet try to put down the person who started as normal people do and accomplished so much through his hard work… girl please. Don’t be lame.
I hope he thinks of Michael Sheen who can’t wait to go on the radio to say how amazing he was and how good he looked in a kilt, who records himself going off about how hot David is and what a fantastic actor he is, and how he sometimes forgets his lines because he’s so lost in his performance, how he is his favourite actor, how he loves him and adores him and it’s so clear even just on his face. How he doesn’t shut up about David and needs barely a prompt to go off about his love for him. Who puts him on pedestal and shows him off and especially when it’s his big day. And seeing DT’s confidence skyrocketing… yeah I think he’s noticing and it’s working. And MS is someone on his level who understands the work DT does so his words have a bit more importance behind them…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think everything you read online or anywhere really, you need to take it with a grain of salt and it applies to this article too.
Generally people didn’t scream “bullshit” at this article because GT herself admitted to stalking DT until he gave him and it’s not a secret that she got knocked up on a one night stand and they got married because of that.
There were many rumours regarding their open marriage and her trying to obsessively control media and succeeding a lot. If you care to dig it’s all there.
But conclusion is up to you as always.

Perhaps the angel should say I'm sorry
I've said before that I don't think Aziraphale has anything to apologize for when he comes back down from Heaven. And I do stand by this, I don't think he should apologize for stepping into the elevator. He did his best and what he thought was right, and I don't think Crowley would want him to apologize for that.
BUT, that doesn't mean he shouldn't apologize AT ALL.
If you take in 6000 years, there's actually kind of a lot that Aziraphale has to apologize for. All the times he initially thought the worst of Crowley just because he was a demon. Lying to Crowley about knowing where the anti-Christ is.
I don't think Crowley wants to hear an actual genuine apology from Aziraphale for any of this. I think Crowley absolutely understands where Aziraphale was coming from. He knows the dilemma that Aziraphale was in and how hard that would be, especially for someone so pure of heart and someone who still loved God and stood by Heaven as far as he could as Aziraphale did.
But while I think that's true, I also think it's true that Aziraphale would find it to be the right thing to do to apologize for that stuff. I'm sorry for all the times I thought the worst of you. I'm sorry for lying to you, for not telling you everything when I trusted you and I had the chance. I'm sorry that I've made mistakes before and yet it wasn't even safe for me to say what you deserved to hear, that I'm sorry, because I would've gotten in trouble if Heaven overheard me sincerely apologize to a demon.
And Crowley deserves to hear this. He deserves to be blatantly told that his opinion matters and that his feelings matter. He deserves to be told that he didn't deserve to be misunderstood or lied to. He deserves acknowledgment for the pain they BOTH went through in not being able to say what they were really thinking and feeling.
It's totally possible for a scene like that to happen in season 3. It would have to be written delicately and with great depth and nuance, but we all know this show is more than capable of delivering that.
Part of them being truly open and honest with each other now includes them being honest about all the times they hurt each other. There needs to be an I'm sorry right alongside the I love you.

I love Aziraphale but I DO kind of feel like he was objectively more wrong than Crowley was, bc Aziraphale's plot for most of S2 comes straight out of Terry Pratchett books: he shuts down Crowley and focuses on setting up this storybook romance for them, while ignoring everyone else's distress. Like we see from the start of the season that Crowley is depressed and clearly upset, and it gets worse as it progresses, but Aziraphale doesn't even clock that something is wrong, even when Crowley is outright telling him. Of course this is going to create and nurture a situation where Crowley doesn't communicate. Aziraphale's not listening to him anyway. One of Terry's books features a witch who uses her magic to force fairy tale plots onto the people around her. It's the pinnacle of toxic positivity.
hi anon!!!✨ oooooh i have a feeling that this is going to be a long one, my apologies in advance!!! also, please forgive my ignorance on pratchett's works, im not deliberately ignoring it, but definitely not familiar with it enough to draw on any narrative similarities unfortunately!!!
so on the point of aziraphale not recognising that crowley is depressed, i do think that there are some indicators that if aziraphale paid more attention, he would pick up on it. that being said, i do think that the depth of crowley's not-okayness is largely masked from aziraphale, and is mostly shown only to other characters and obviously to the audience; the scene on the park bench with shax, for example, or any scenes between crowley in/around the bentley. one example that aziraphale could have picked up on:
c: "what i need is for him to be nowhere near me, and the precious, peaceful, fragile existence ive carved out for myself here..."
a: "i thought we carved it out for ourselves?"
c: "so did i!"
so, obviously crowley started in on the fact that gabriel threatened aziraphale in ep6, and quite rightly uses this as a reason to leave well enough alone, get rid of gabriel, and go back to their life as it was before. and crowley's language and delivery is absolutely indicative of how desperate he is to keep the status quo, that he's hanging on practically by a thread. shax and hell are keeping tabs on him, he's living in his car (which i'll come onto later), and he doesn't have much of a Purpose anymore than just existing.
aziraphale should be reading into this, 110%. but, crowley ends up underplaying his own struggle by talking about 'i' and 'me'. that doesn't mean its less true or valid, but to aziraphale's mind, he appears to be thinking only about how gabriel's presence would affect him. it immediately undermines how crowley first went in to trying to convince aziraphale to turn out gabriel, because it reads like crowley is revealing his true issue with the situation. we know that it's because, to crowley, aziraphale is ignoring him and his warning (which he absolutely is).
but crowley hasn't told aziraphale the full story of what happened; what gabriel said. aziraphale doesn't have the context to understand the full scope of crowley's fear and anger. i don't think knowing it would have necessarily changed the ultimate outcome/decision - i do think aziraphale is still kind and forgiving ("it's one of my favourite things!") to a fault - but it might have stopped aziraphale completely closing off and shutting down the continuance of what could have been a communicative and honest discussion. that, despite all of it, crowley is stepping away from aziraphale and planting himself on His (crowley's) Side, not Their Side.
aziraphale attempts to pull the conversation back; he tells crowley he would love for him to help, and that aziraphale is actively asking for help (which, verbally and with full intent, i don't recall aziraphale having done anywhere before this point in canon; he's intimated it, made very strong suggestions that he wants crowley to help/do something for him). this is a big show of vulnerability on aziraphale's part ("i need you!"), to literally put those words into the space between them... and crowley is silent. crowley is absolutely justified in not helping gabriel, but i think aziraphale's reaction is just as understandable.
but then moving on through to ep2, i think the next bit where aziraphale probably should have seen that crowley is Not Okay is the bentley/bookshop discussion, and crowley's reluctance to share it. from crowley's point of view, this car is literally the only tie he has left (will still get to the Sleeping In His Car debacle later) to anything permanent. this car that is literally an extension of him, comforts and shelters him, his complete Ride or Die - even to the end of the world. it is completely understandable that crowley would be jealous of it, want to keep a portion of his world for himself.
from aziraphale's point of view, as suggestive as it can be interpreted, he's opened his doors literally to crowley since at least 1941 - even earlier, if we count the 1800 scene that was cut (where, if gabriel and sandalphon hadn't turned up, i have no doubts that crowley would have been welcomed in straight away). it's definitely believable that crowley, between at least 1800 - 1827, might have been welcome in the shop... possibly even between 1827 - 1862 depending whether or not crowley spent "quite some time" in the pits of hell after edinburgh.
and this is likely to have been an exponential occurrence between 2008 - 2023, possibly even between 1967 - 2008 (depending on whether they had or had not been in continued contact follow the holy water incident). either way, again from aziraphale's perspective, the tie he has to earth and his life on it has been steadily then repeatedly shared with crowley. that's where he feels safe, and is himself, and is an extension of him. it's where they both feel like that in 2023. aziraphale has, presumably, shared that without quibble, has even been - judging by the s2 scene - something he has actively encouraged. it's definitely presumptuous, and possibly even entitled, but i think aziraphale has seen this as crowley being willing to share his life with aziraphale; why wouldn't he share the bentley? he's driven aziraphale everywhere he's wanted to go in it - doesn't crowley trust him enough to let aziraphale drive himself, for once?
ep3 sees a continuation of the above; that aziraphale changes the car, and does so without permission. whilst cute and adorable, and with the best of intentions, there is a major degree of this that is absolutely a violation on crowley, even if he logically would know that it's reversible. potentially, this is even foreshadowing of how he feels in the Final Fifteen with the angel restoration offer (im sure someone else has drawn this parallel somewhere...?).
but i do think it is absolutely a declaration from aziraphale of how wonderful he sees crowley just as he is now (his mf eyes), and how actually he doesn't want to change crowley to something better, but instead to paint the whole world in crowley's image. and its all the more powerful because a) crowley isn't there to see it, and b) he doesn't know that crowley can so viscerally detect changes made to the car.
the fact that crowley doesn't make this connection is surely a reflection of how he sees himself (see: he doesn't), and aziraphale should pick up on that... but if to aziraphale's mind crowley already knows how aziraphale feels about him through other gestures, in aziraphale's mind maybe crowley's just being coy or a bit possessive of his beloved bentley - that's fair, it's practically married behaviour! aziraphale wouldn't necessarily think to infer crowley's objections as anything different.
then we move on to ep4 (and finally talking about crowley living like a nomad), with the last scene of aziraphale helping him take out the plants to the bentley. you know - im still not 100% sure what to make of the whole situation of aziraphale not knowing that crowley is living out of his car. my main two schools of thought are that:
crowley has been spending enough time in the shop that him going out at random intervals is just normal to aziraphale - he's off doing Demon Things! he's just out on a jolly, having some time to himself! but it's okay, he always comes back! that would be possible, but we don't have any narrative to actively support this, and is practically a hc at this point. but there must be something that keeps aziraphale from digging any deeper - he is by all accounts a smart guy, and clocking that crowley has his plants in his car must get him thinking even if only for a moment... (unless he literally just chalks it up to Crowley Being Crowley, which is also feasible lbr)
the alternative thought (and not saying this is right - as i said, i literally do not have a scooby as to why aziraphale doesn't seem, on some level, to realise it) is that aziraphale does realise it, but doesn't want to face the implications of why crowley might have kept it from him, and so he buries it. i parsed this thought out more in a LWA response, full post here, but snippet screenshotted below:
Tumblr media
i'll probably leave that bit there, but absolutely; aziraphale should be realising that something is wrong... but equally - as the king of cognitive dissonance, frankly - i don't think he wants to look deeper into something that, to him, would suggest any reason for there to be distrust between them, or a lack of openness. of course, we can see as the audience that this is a very small drop in the ocean where that's concerned, but to aziraphale - there's surely no possibility that crowley would keep something from him, not something this important.
when it comes to the Loving Gaze in ep6 (i'll come back to ep5 in a sec) that he gives when crowley admits that he's been living in his car, again - not entirely sure what to make of it. obviously it is just pure 'i utterly love/adore him', 'yes, it's you i want to be with, yes', but also maybe a measure of 'oh, you silly demon, why didn't you tell me? not that it's a problem now though, because in time we'll be together properly and you'll never have to be without a home again because your home can be with me'. he does gloss over the fact that crowley didn't tell him, and was obviously not in an okay place - but possibly in a, 'we'll talk about it later sometime, but for now - im just happy about what future we could start having from here on out. everything else is immaterial'. it's dismissive, but i also think potentially an indication that aziraphale does see, but they'll have the rest of their existence now to talk about it and heal.
anyway, back to ep5. the ball. oh lord - i honestly don't know if i have the mental acuity to even go into depth on the ball, rn. it's a Problem, and 100% on aziraphale's part. he's overcome with love, god bless him, isn't he? just so hellbent on showing crowley - it's not even about the girls, anymore, not if aziraphale really admitted it to himself - that he loves him. i think the magic spell that aziraphale creates bewitches even him, slightly - maybe not so literally, but this is a moment that has at least been decades in the making. and crowley is running around telling him there's an issue? well, they're safe in the shop (which, in a way, is absolutely true)! don't spoil this, please just hear me, hear what im trying to tell you unequivocally!
i think in aziraphale's mind, crowley tends to have a habit of overreacting (gabriel as a case in point), which is not true - but understandable when you potentially consider that aziraphale never really has all the facts. he's definitely overprotective, a point that is shown in s1 (imo, aziraphale never actively encourages the damsel-in-distress thing, but crowley just happens to show up at the slightest hint of trouble, and instead aziraphale takes this to mean that saving him, when he doesn't need saving, truly does make crowley happy). this is something crowley through his actions has encouraged - i think to assume that crowley is overreacting in this context is understandable, but yet; no, aziraphale should be listening to him. he should. and it once again feeds into the thought process that aziraphale cannot save himself - on and on it goes.
i don't think there is much to discuss in ep6 (im not going to get into the Final Fifteen - it's been analysed so much better by other people and by me too), this answer is already long enough, and i think for the most part it's fairly obvious. i do however have a dedicated FF tag in my masterpost if you do wish to peruse the various ponderings on the subject.
the only thing i guess that's really left for me to parse out is s1; aziraphale does lie to crowley. a lot. most egregious is lying about finding the antichrist but, i will say, in his defence - crowley has repeatedly asserted that they should straight-up murder a child. aziraphale drew his boundary, and crowley kept pushing, even going so far as to try tempting (and then practically demanding) that aziraphale be the one to do it. i don't think it's unjustified in that respect that aziraphale would keep that knowledge, therefore, from him - and instead turn to heaven. obviously that doesn't work out, in that respect crowley is proven right, and aziraphale immediately takes action to remedy it (calls crowley after the 9-1-metatron call).
but, it's an interesting mirror to what goes on in s2 in the theme of mutual trust and openness between them. crowley doesn't trust aziraphale not to dismiss him and run back to heaven when the going gets tough, nor does he trust him to have any sense of self-preservation (despite, yk, being a literal miracle worker and being the one to actual save their bacon in the 40s s2 minisode). but aziraphale similarly doesn't trust crowley not to try making him do something he has expressly said he will not do, and would betray a core tenet of who he is - temptation, which they both know works on aziraphale, and crowley could arguably exploit as he sees fit if aziraphale were to let him be completely vulnerable to crowley. in this respect, the foundations of their relationship, such as it is, is quite demonstrably built on sand of the quick variety.
so in essence, anon (honestly - gold star for you if you've made it to here), i don't disagree with you at all. but i think it's slightly reductive to not see that they are just as bad as each other. each have their trauma and unreconciled issues that directly inform on the action or inaction they take, and both are completely justified in that. i think it's more than possible to be empathetic to both of their perspectives, because ultimately, imo, their relationship as it was where we left it at the end of s2 was practically doomed right from where we first - in 2008 - properly join their story. im all for a huge, screaming row, and the promise of quieter, more delicate conversations thereafter, in s3; boy, do they need it!✨

Good Omens Fic Rec: Simmer (The Long-Awaited Reply to a Lingering Kiss)
Aziraphale Fell is an accomplished food writer and book collector who leads a quiet life. Anthony Crowley owns the Grand Duke Distillery, maker of Wanton Sinner Whisky, and has a reputation for living on the wild side. As former culinary school classmates, they share a love of food and drink — and a long ago kiss that neither one has ever quite forgotten. Are they just too different to ever make it work? (I bet you can guess.) Aziraphale rises from his chair, takes a few steps towards him, then hesitates. Crowley knows a hundred different emotions must be flickering across his face, reflecting all the turmoil between his head and his heart. His heart is loud, insistent, nudging him to see the earnest hope in Aziraphale’s expression, to remember the beatific boy who lent him a pen and kissed him on a stair step, urging him to not let go of this man with ink-stained fingers and rare books who constantly surprises him. His shoulders tense as his breath hitches, his voice hoarse. “You need to tell me exactly what you want.”
Length: 28,364 words
AO3 Rating: Explicit / Spice Level 🔥🔥🔥
Best for: Mostly Safe in Public, Human AU, Romance
Triggers: None
Read it here, fic by LemonTart
*Minor Spoilers* I really loved this version of Aziraphale and Crowley. In this AU, they had known each other in culinary school many years ago and one night shared a kiss that neither of them could fully forget. I love how we meet them in the future, as more than acquaintances but not close enough to know anything about each other's personal lives. But it's written all over them how much they both want to reconnect.
The tension between them simmers slowly as they begin to spend more time together. I absolutely adore food AUs because it allows them to be experts and intellectual equals, which I appreciate in a Human AU. It's important to me that they can keep pace with each other! When emotions finally reach a boiling point, they must be brave and honest about their desires. Then, they need to put in the effort to make it a reality. I would love to spend more time in this specific AU. I want to follow them as they visit new restaurants, sample whiskies, and cook together. I want to see how they manage their schedules and integrate into each other's lives now. The pacing was excellent, and it ends on a very satisfying note, but I can't help feeling greedy with this one. I want an extra helping.
Mostly safe in public, the sex is not too explicit and they're shorter scenes, so you could get away with it. But I think it makes a perfect binge read if you can settle in and read it in one go.

Every Day: On Aziraphale
Obviously MAJOR spoilers ahead! Click keep reading at your own risk.
Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way first. I am not angry at Aziraphale for his decision. I don't agree with it, obviously, but I understand why he made the choice he did.
In Aziraphale's mind, there could not be a better course of events than them both returning to Heaven as angels. It would solve pretty much every problem and worry (Aziraphale feels) they had ever had. They would both have their jobs back, both be working for the Good Guys, he would be able to use his new position of power to fix the flaws in Heaven, and, most importantly, they would be together, without any of the fear that had been looming over them for the past six thousand years.
Aziraphale is perfectly aware that they are also being offered safety. With Aziraphale as Supreme Archangel and Crowley as his second in command, they could be freely and openly together and in love for the first time in their entire relationship. Which is why he tries so desperately to convince him to go with him, being the most upfront and honest about his feelings for him than he has ever been before. "We can be together!" "I need you!" He believed so much that he could change Crowley's mind for the sake of them being together that he wouldn't accept that Crowley's answer was "no" until Crowley was out the door, until it was too late.
Additionally, we now know that Crowley and Aziraphale did know each other before Crowley Fell, and this adds a whole new layer to Aziraphale's decision. He remembers the angel Crowley used to be, the angel full of joy and smiles, who loved creating beautiful things, who absolutely adored being an angel. Aziraphale loves Crowley, and he would love to see him that happy again. That coupled with the fact that Aziraphale can probably, like us, tell that Crowley misses being an angel leads him to believe that going back to Heaven would be a no-brainer for Crowley. So he is not prepared in the least for Crowley to want absolutely nothing to do with the idea. He can't fathom why anyone would willingly stay on the "bad" side when they had a choice. The question Aziraphale asks of Crowley is "Why would you choose to be Evil when you could be Good?" But what Aziraphale doesn't understand is that that's not the choice Crowley is making here. He's not choosing Evil over Good. He's choosing himself over the whole system, the system that Aziraphale still has hope can be fixed.
And that's where the Metatron comes in. I fully believe that the Metatron manipulated Aziraphale to get him to agree to come with him. We don't get to see all of his conversation with Aziraphale, but we can see that he brings Aziraphale a coffee (trying to get his foot in the door), reassures him that "I've ingested things in my time," that his humanly habit of consuming Earthly food and drink is nothing to be ashamed of (again trying to get his foot in the door by keeping Aziraphale comfortable around him as well as likening himself to him), and pays him compliments that are frankly out of character considering Heaven has regarded Aziraphale as a traitor since the averted Armageddon. But, most damning of all, in my opinion, is the Metatron telling Aziraphale that he could restore Crowley to angelic status. Before this point, Aziraphale was not keen on the idea, even saying point-blank that he doesn't want to go back to Heaven. But the Metatron (like pretty much everybody at this point) knows that Aziraphale is in love with Crowley. He knows Crowley is his perfect leverage, especially since, I believe, he knows that Crowley would never agree to come back to Heaven and he would never have suggested it if he didn't know that Crowley would reject it. His glare at Crowley on his way out the door is enough for us to see his contempt for him, his asking Aziraphale "how did he take it?" seems like strange wording to me (Not "what did he say?" or "what does he think?" Normally you "take" something you don't want to hear, implying the Metatron anticipated Crowley's reaction), and his remark after Crowley leaves that he was "always asking damn fool questions" shows us more of that contempt as well as an attempt to convince Aziraphale that "screw him he's stupid anyway you don't need him." So there you go. The Metatron uses Crowley to get Aziraphale to agree to come back to Heaven, sits back and watches as they both break each other's hearts, swoops back in to pick up the pieces, and now has an angel feeling very vulnerable and alone ready to be escorted back up to Heaven.
I would honestly compare Aziraphale to a cult victim. He's essentially been brainwashed. For countless millennia he has been conditioned to see Heaven as the one and only Good Side, and the angels as the end-all-be-all Good Guys. After everything that's happened over the last six thousand years (the last few years especially), Aziraphale now obviously knows that's not entirely true, but even so, he still has the mindset of two sides, Heaven Good and Hell Evil. And so to be welcomed back to the Good Side with open arms when he's at such a low, to be entrusted with power and recognition by the Voice of God undoubtedly feels reassuring, even though I am positive something small deep inside him is whispering to him that something about this is not right.
More than anything, Aziraphale believes in Goodness. It's quite literally the very core of his being. He wholeheartedly believes that the system is capable of being fixed and that he can be the one to fix it. And not only that he can, that, if he has the chance to, he has to. It's his duty as a being of Good.
Brokenhearted Aziraphale is too stubborn convicted in his values to turn down the chance to change Heaven for the better, and with the bookshop being entrusted to Muriel and, most importantly, without Crowley, he doesn't have much keeping him on Earth anymore.
In the end, it's a combination of Aziraphale's steadfast values and principles, his genuine and unwavering desire to do Good, and Heaven's indoctrination and manipulation of him that leads Aziraphale to leave Earth and Crowley behind and return to Heaven.
Exactly to what end the Metatron wants Aziraphale as Supreme Archangel, I don't know. That's for Season Three to tell us. We'll just have to wait and see.

I love Aziraphale. Truly. And I believe, at his core, he wants to *be* good, but even more so, he wants to *do* good.
However, because of the indoctrination by Heaven, he is often misguided. Aziraphale is certainly far from perfect; he has many flaws. This includes, but is not limited to, being quite hedonistic.
Between these two large parts of his personality, Aziraphale’s attempts to do good often come across as selfish. He wants to please Heaven, but also himself.
I also believe, wholeheartedly, that Aziraphale loves Crowley. I can't imagine why else an angel would go out of their way to befriend and *help* a demon.
My headcanon is that Crowley fell in love, and was able to identify what that love meant, well before Aziraphale. I believe Aziraphale's feelings crept up on him slowly, manifesting more and more with every interaction he had with Crowley.
When Crowley saved Aziraphale’s books, I believe that was when it hit him. He finally realized what he felt for Crowley was more than platonic. However, he must have also been hit with great confusion. How could an angel love a demon??
Yet, that hedonistic side of him wanted to see how far he could get with those feelings, but without having to be honest and admitting it outright. So, he flirted. A lot.
I think, in his own way, he wasn't only protecting himself. He was protecting Crowley as well. Certainly, neither Heaven nor Hell would approve of such a thing. Aziraphale had to at least suspect that Crowley felt more for him than simple friendship. But, like his own feelings, he felt it was safer to keep that possibility hidden in the shadows.
When Aziraphale was approached by the (fucking asshole piece of shit) Metatron and was told he could bring Crowley to Heaven with him, he jumped on it. In his hedonistic mind, he believed that was the perfect solution. With Crowley as an angel, his feelings for him would no longer be a danger to either of them.
I believe that if Aziraphale suspected Crowley loved him, he had to be keeping quiet for the same reasons. Therefore, being reinstated as an angel would be how the only way they could truly be together.
Tumblr media
Of course, Crowley knows Heaven's offer is bullshit and hopes he can convince his foolish angel that they can "be an us" without either side's approval. They're on their own side and have been for a long time. Aziraphale just doesn't realize or truly believe it. Especially when he gets an opportunity to please the beings whose approval he's been brainwashed to absolutely *need*.
These are obviously all my personal beliefs, and I know that when season 3 airs, I could very well be proven wrong. Everyone's headcanons are valid and possible. I don't want to argue or debate about it. I just wanted to write my feelings down. (I did not anticipate that this post would be so long lol)

Hello! First, I love your writing, it’s amazing.
Second, may I request Aziraphale reassuring the reader who is nervous about an upcoming test?
I’m about to take one for social studies and I’m kinda nervous.
Please and thank you!
:0 I'll be honest I wasn't really expecting to get requests but I'll give it my best shot!
Contains: Anxiety, tests, stimming, cuddles, pet names, he loves you 💞, Gender-neutral reader, lol pure fluff bois
You've been sitting at the couch in the bookshop, working intently, for almost an hour now. Normally that wouldn't be so odd, the bookshop has a lovely atmosphere and you never have to worry about it getting crowded, but Aziraphale can tell that something's wrong. It shows in the little things, your leg is bouncing sporadically, never quite finding a rhythm; You're murmuring under your breath, trying to memorize everything you can, and the creases marking focus in your expression keep flicking over to disappointment. Add onto that the fact that the only words he's heard out of you today were a soft, "Hello Aziraphale, good morning." And you've got one concerned angel on your hands.
Aziraphale makes up his mind then, and walks over to where you're seated, clearing his throat. "Dear, I'm going to prepare some tea, would you like any?" You startle slightly at the break of silence. "I-Yes, yeah." Your voice drops to a whisper, "That should do some good...". Aziraphale nods, and moves quickly to prepare the tea. By the time he's back, you've moved the table holding your studying supplies back to it's original position, a foot or so away from the couch. Aziraphale hands your cup to you, prepared just as like it, and sits next to you on the couch, letting you rest a moment before he starts probing.
"Darling-"
"Hmm?"
"What are you working on thats worrying you so?"
You look up to his eyes and blush slightly
"I have a test coming up, it's-I'm just getting a bit nervous about it is all. Getting kinda in my own head about it, I guess."
You look almost embarrassed to admit it, which won't do at all. Aziraphale opens his arms in an invitation, and you fall into them easily. He takes your cup in his hand and places it with his own on his desk before leaning backward against the armrest, cupping his hand around your cheek and his arm around your back.
"I've seen the way you work before dear, you will be fine. You are incredible, you don't need a test to prove it. Absolutely brilliant."
"I can't be great at everything you know"
You're ducking your head slightly as you say it, blush taking over your face, the corners of your lips curling up.
"I'd hope not! I think if you were any more impressive I would discorporate at the sight of you! Then I wouldn't be able to hold you like this, it would be torturous."
Aziraphale overexaggerates his expressions just a tad as he speaks, and you chuckle softly.
"Thank you."
"Of course."

It is 8am, I haven’t slept at all and most likely have all qualifications needed to be declared clinically insane.
BECAUSE WHAT THE FUCK MAN??!,!!?!,!,!,!, KXKKSOZLSKXJDLZKSNICUEJSPMWOZHC
I’M GONNA FUCKING KMS AT THIS POINT
*GOOD OMENS 2 SPOILERS BELOW*
It all started so nicely; the first 30 seconds or so literally showed us Crowley when he was still an angel, happily creating the stars and the galaxy and being so proud of his work to the point where he couldn’t even stop smiling like an idiot.
And Aziraphale was with him!! Aziraphale, who fell in love with Crowley even before Earth itself was created; Aziraphale, who couldn’t take his eyes off of Crowley for even just one second while the other was rambling about the stars.
It just got better and sweeter after that, I literally couldn’t stop thinking about how they definitely seem like an old married couple to bystanders, especially whenever they bicker back and forth!
Not to mention their familiarity. You could tell back in season one that those two have known each other for a really really long time and it just got more obvious with this season.
Their mutual pining was also painfully obvious, as always, but this time it really punched me in the guts. I kept coming back to tumblr every now and then when I needed a giggling-and-kicking feet-break while watching and obviously saw a few posts and gifs. Which didn’t exactly help my kicked-puppy-phase. I’ll come back to this later.
Anyway, I’m also hyperventilating about the “One cast-out Prince of Heaven was already bad enough” or something along those lines and was like “ARE THEY INDIRECTLY CONFIRMING THAT CROWLEY WAS THE ARCHANGEL RAPHAEL BEFORE HE FELL???” Because the way I see it, the answer seems to be yes.
Muriel basically said “I don’t have the clearance to show you these files, I’m really sorry” and Crowley just— the fact that the files can only be accessed by angels of higher status tells enough for us to know, but then again, I could be reading way too much into it and all of that could be something else entirely (which I highly doubt, but we saw that literally anything can happen).
Another thing that I absolutely loved was Saraquael’s floating wheelchair. It looked so cool, to be honest. I also liked that they decided to have a disabled angel, instead of going with “yeah, they’re all at peak physical performance”.
Coming back to the Idiots in Love, I honestly thought that it was hilarious of them to stick their noses into other people’s love lives, yet they’re blind/mute/deaf/whatever you want to call it when it comes to the both of them. Loved how two mere humans had to talk sense to a literal demon.
The Kiss. Oh, the Kiss. That broke me. I was worried at first when Aziraphale came back to the bookshop after his little walk and talk with Metatron and was actually shocked to find out that my anxious worry was right. Angel comes back with a two meters wide smile plastered on his face and suddenly starts talking about Heaven again.
That definitely hurt Crowley on an indescribable level. Imagine most of the current problems in your life have been solved again, you’re daydreaming about a lovely dinner at the Ritz with the love of your life and have (some of) your precious, peaceful and fragile existence back when suddenly all of your hopes and dreams get crushed by the very person that you love because they can’t help Heaven’s brainwashing and their own righteousness.
Imagine them happily talking about the very place that you were cast out of just for daring to question or even make suggestions for God’s Great Plan. Yup, definitely sucked for Crowley. I believe that in that moment, when he kissed Aziraphale, he was hoping to finally open the angel’s eyes and make him see and understand what Crowley truly meant.
He just wanted to be away from everyone and everything and have his love by his side, just like he always had been.
But Aziraphale didn’t—couldn’t!— understand that. He was losing his faith and frankly, I still think he does, but deep down, there’s this something in him that sees the good in everyone. Especially Heaven, because God and the angels are supposed to be the good guys here! Hell is obviously bad and evil, and so are demons, then Heaven must’ve been better!
He’s loved Crowley for as long as Crowley has loved him, but in that moment, he saw his chance to possibly make a change and had to take it. He doubted this decision, obviously!! But he also knew that change was desperately needed, even though he seemed to regret his choices and even considered just going back to Crowley.
Crowley, on the other hand, expected Aziraphale to immediately turn down the offer and when it was clear that he hadn’t, he tried to convince Aziraphale of just calling everything off. He waited outside by his car, because Aziraphale always came back after arguments like this. He came back when Crowley had asked for holy water, despite being against it. He came back when Crowley had offered to run away together multiple times during Armageddon. He always returned to Crowley despite his own opinions and Crowley thought that this might also be just like those times.
Except it wasn’t. He got another “I forgive you” and watched the most important person to him step into the elevator to Heaven. The bookshop was in the hands of a stranger and their countless ‘dates’ became just another thing in the past.
He was lonely again, just like he had been when he had fallen and this time, there didn’t seem to be a solution to his loneliness.
It was absolutely fulfilling to see Beelzebub and Gabriel get together and be happy and I was desperately hoping that we’d see the same with Aziraphale and Crowley, but it was just wishful thinking.
At this point, I think that Neil Gaiman just took everything he saw on Tumblr and Twitter and said “let’s put all of this into the second season, but with extra angst in the ending.”
Which is incredible!! But it still hurt my soul and I’m gonna be thinking about this until we hopefully get a season 3.
It’s 9am now, I’ve been typing this for an whole hour and am incapable of forming any coherent thoughts. If something else should come to my mind, I’ll post it after finally catching some Zs.
