Apologies if you've already answered it. I've been reading your metas today and linked posts and ngl I really love them and I feel like we're in full agreement with everything.

With season 2 of Loki merely 6 weeks away (idk, are you going to watch it? I think I will, regardless of my current feelings about it) what are your thoughts about the upcoming season? What do you expect we'll get in it? Do you have any hopes for it, or do you think it will be more of the same. The current promo does not give me a good feeling tbh. Also do you think Hiddleston could leave the mcu at the end of season 2? Or at least if this could be the last time we see TVA Loki. Sorry for lenghty ask 🙈 my season 2 anxiety is off the charts, I expect it will be more of the same with Sylvie leading the story and Loki following her and I'd love to hear your thoughts about s2

Awww, thank you!!! Season 1 was something I felt so deeply for! All my hopes and dreams were focused on it. And then it shattered me in a way I didn’t know was possible. Now, I see that it took me a full year to cope and decode what I was feeling. The metas I wrote during this time (including the survey) are more like an open diary of how I processed the show and stabilized my mental health. It means a lot to me that now those thoughts may help others, too. 💚

I’ll put the answers under a cut, because there are some triggers included.

what are your thoughts about the upcoming season? What do you expect we'll get in it?

Frankly, I expect the season to focus mainly on Sylvie and her character development. If I put my criticisms aside and try to see what the creators wanted to do with the series, it looks to me like their only goal for Larry was to morph him from a villain to a hero in a way that would be undeniable for the general audience. This was achieved by him watching the video and finally finding someone he cares for. So his arc was completed in season 1. His role now is probably to serve as a guide for her, and maybe to discover that his true power is only achievable through or with her. I don’t count this as “his” arc especially, but more the core of the general admiration Sylvie is supposed to get from everyone in-universe. It’s a part of being a Mary sue. As is excelling at everything, even stuff that is opposite to your characteristics and you have no former knowledge on that would make it seem believable you’d excel. Like this, you know?

I‘m quite certain of this because Eric Martin is a huge fan of Sylvie and the ship. If you want to confirm I suggest looking at his Twitter. His tweets imply he intends to stay true to Waldron‘s and Harron‘s original ideas. This was confirmed by some people working on the set of season 2. I made the effort to find the original post, and it turned out that two people contributed to the post I experienced as thoughtful and reliable on Reddit. I personally believe those leaks.

I think it will be more of the same. Sorry, I wish I could tell you something more to your taste. I absolutely share this feeling, and so do others.

Also do you think Hiddleston could leave the mcu at the end of season 2?

This article claims that Tom was supposed to leave the MCU at the end of season 1. Allegedly, season 1 was supposed to have 12 episodes and only was cut short because of Corona. This would mean that the original end of season 1 would be now the end of season 2. Does this mean he will leave? I can’t say. Disney‘s stock is progressively decreasing. Social media opinions on the MCU seem to grow more and more negative and depreciating. Perhaps Iger and Feige feel like Tom is one of the last strong pillars and try to keep him. At this point, I wouldn’t put it past them to try to keep the MCU afloat with Tom’s personal fandom. I don’t think that will work since Google stats show that his popularity decreased after season 1 to a point where it is now below the level it was after endgame. But they might attempt it.

Or at least if this could be the last time we see TVA Loki.

Even if he leaves I assume cameos are always a possibility, especially now that the studios are utilizing AI. But Loki? I‘m heartbroken, but I am very sure we have seen the last of him in TDW (and Ao3). May his reign bring him all the joy he deserves.

I honestly don’t know. I certainly won’t pay for it. The last time I always watched the episodes was the day they came out so I could write my thoughts down here. But ngl, I’m tired of the fighting, the anon hate, and the feeling that opinions online are getting more important than the love for Loki. Right now, I’m trying to focus more on my fanfics than on the canon. Season 1 made me unable to continue my fics for almost a year. I don’t want to repeat that with season 2.

I still think that the show has done great harm to the fandom, to (some) people with poor mental health who needed Loki as a focus point, (some) gender-fluid or non-binary people who got exposed to sexism because of it, and possibly Tom‘s reputation (based on the google trends Infos). But for season 2 we know what to expect. We know it’s not Loki but Larry who will appear. And in this case, I think it might be best to leave the season to those it was made for, so they can enjoy it and keep as far away from it as possible.

If you want to watch it and still want to give Disney some negative feedback, I recommend watching every episode more than 7 days after it aired. Afaik Disney only counts views in the first week as real interest. Alternatively, 🏴‍☠️.

I know you like bonenzo, but what are your thoughts on Carenzo?

I loved their banter throughout season 5, and in season 6 I fell in love with them and was really disappointed when they didn’t ever get together. Enzo is actually my favorite Caroline ship, as Matt was just bad for obvious reasons, Klaus hurt her multiple times (you could honestly call it abuse) and she used him all the time, and I just found her and Stefan extremely boring. I actually liked her and Tyler together, but too much damage was done for them to ever end up together imo.

Also do you think you’ll continue with TGW outtakes? If so, would you consider writing some extra scenes with Elijah, Hayley, and Astra while they were in France?

I adore platonic Carenzo.

If the writers hadn't been so determined to sideline Bonnie and prioritize Damon, Steroline and Bonenzo could have been such a fun group. Enzo and Stefan would have annoyed each other but they would have put up for it for Caroline and Bonnie. I wish they would have continued Stefan and Bonnie's friendship from the early seasons rather than giving it to Damon. It always seemed more realistic for me. Also, Enzo's loyalty to Damon and hatred of Stefan never made sense to me. Honestly, Enzo and Stefan could have bonded over being betrayed by Damon. Enzo just decides to forgive Damon for abandoning him and killing his love and blaming Stefan for everything??

I personally never wanted Caroline and Enzo to be romantic. They bonded during a time where Caroline really needed a friend and Enzo stepped up. It is one of the reasons I love Enzo's character. Enzo was the character they wanted Damon to be. He did a lot of bad (even terrible) things but was striving to be a better person and actually made himself a better person. I would have been fine with them writing Damon off and brining in Enzo for better storylines than they gave him. I also just love Michael Malarkey.

I am a huge advocate for platonic relationships. It's fine to ship people, but not everyone who gets along needs to be romantically invovled. Although I do definitely see why people ship them. But I liked that Caroline and Enzo grew to care for each other but never needed to make it romantic. And honestly, Caroline needed just friends. I feel like the writers were matching her up with anyone she came in contact with. Stefan was gone for five seconds and they had Enzo flirting with her. I wanted the show to focus on friendships/family more than the ships at times.

My favorite ships for Caroline are Steroline and then Forwood. I love friends to lovers. Nearly all of my favorite ships are. Both Steroline and Forwood had that great foundation before they started dating. They were each other's best friends. To me Steroline was always endgame. The way they fought for each other and looked out for one another was great. Forwood is a close runner up and would have been endgame had Klaus not gotten in the way for no reason. Tyler didn't deserve anything Klaus put him through. I think they could have found their way back to each other but they had both already moved on by the time the dust settled.

I did actually like Matt and Caroline at times but they were both just in emotionally fragile spots when they dated. But they were a cute high school relationship. I don't consider Klaus and Caroline a relationship -- it was just straight abuse.

I know I went on a lot of side tangents, but thanks for the ask! I don't talk about TVD nearly enough.

I am continuing TGW Outtakes! I'm also already writing scenes of them spending the weekend in Paris. There will be lots of wine, art, and kissing. I am just writing very slowly now that we are near the end of the story. There are so many lose ends to tie up.

Mcu Stan's are some of the most ignorant and annoying people especially tony, Wanda and Peggy Stan's. I never understood how you could get mad at Jewish or romani people for having a problem with the way the mcu handles its characters. Countless Jewish people have pointed ot why peggy is problematic and why Wanda is to but people get so up in arms about it like a billion dollar company dosen't have the resources to research the characters they're writing.

Peggy as a character fustraits me so much because I know her problematic orgions in the mcu and so do the writers but they keep pushing her and it's starting to effect things outside the mcu.

They've already retconned the comics-Peggy to match MCU-Peggy/HA, to cover up that they adapted Cynthia-the-Nazi by another name.

They've given this new Buff Liz Truss her own run in the comics, where she performs sudden leftwingism by- omg, guys -discovering Colonialism is bad?? Oh wow, so impressive, give her a biscuit!

And they've had her attacking, somehow beating, and victim-blaming comics-Bucky, saying it's 'insane' of him to question her motives.

(Just like She-Hulk lusting over Steve's ass, you can tell it's a nasty dig by male Disney execs at female fans; in this case at those who point out how rotten Peggy is. 

Ironically, it's super authoritarian, radfem and totally in-character of Peggy to violently attack anyone who dares to question her majesty, since that's the very first thing she ever did on screen!) 

Right before pissing away 80+ years of comics history, showing absolute devotion between Steve and Bucky, to turn comics Bucky into a full blown villain who attacks Steve (y'know, like she did?)

Cutting off comics Bucky's nose to spite MCU Bucky's face, cuz all they really want to do is further de-gay MCU Steve in order to bring his stalker Agent Brexit into the main MCU movies again, (because that's her only value! As an accessory to a man!), while they’re supposed to be raising up a black Cap they transparently Did Not Want. 🤮

And just as it was absolutely unforgivable to take Jewish-penned Antifa Steve and pair him off with a Nazi, (I can't help feeling the Indiana Jones movies might have been an influence, there?) 

It was also unforgivable to take Romani Jewish Wanda and turn her into a Nazi. 

Her joint Jewishness and Romani heritage were important, too, because they showed the intersectionality of Fascism’s victims, since comics-Magneto (Jewish) met her Romani mother while imprisoned in Auschwitz. 

(You could also count MCU Bucky under this whitewashing heading, too, since MCU Bucky is partly based on Jewish comics character Arnie Roth. Another Jew made into a villain to serve Disney's Fascist 'don't say gay' values! 

There’s even speculation that they’re going to give WhatIf Bucky Peggy’s shitty corrupt backstory in the next season, and shift the blame off her by having Bucky co-found SHIELDra instead of her. I wouldn’t put it past these whitewashing bastards...)

I can't fault the mere existence of Wanda's villain arc, since that is in the comics... 

Except for two things: 

1) it was transparently done too soon, just because a male creative wanted to be the one to have Cool Scarlet Witch Stuff in his movie.

(If there had been, say, a second season of WV, detailing her slow post-bereavement descent down a dark-mother path? That would've been more interesting and made MoM more organic, IMO.) 

2) The real problem, as someone on twitter I think pointed out, is that if you know about Wanda’s Jewish background in the comics... 

Well, the whole film is about an evil red-headed Jewish witch trying to kidnap and hurt a child for magic ritual purposes. 😬  

Which, if you know about the history of antisemitism, and that Wanda was originally Jewish, makes MoM ‘Blood Libel: the Movie.’ 

And it’s not like Disney would give a shit about the antisemitic vibes, if they knew. 

They’re about to undo all the good of the Captain Marvel movie by doing Secret Invasion, where evil lizard people are secretly infiltrating the earth (IYKYK). 

I saw one Jewish person on twitter pointing out: “Someone was arguing that the skrulls don't deserve their own story because they're evil infiltrators and... this is not comforting to me as a Jewish person, you know? antisemitic conspiracy theorists literally describe Jews as evil lizard people who infiltrate and disguise themselves...” 

Captain Marvel repositioned the Skrulls as innocent maligned refugees, but I guess Disney doesn’t give a fuck about standing by that.

In terms of Wanda’s show, while WV was a great, well-made show, which I enjoyed, while she was an interesting character in it, and Olsen gave a great performance, what I didn't like were the conservative values. 

It reminded me of the anti- second wave feminism films of the 1980s, where any woman who has a career (read: power, like Wanda has) is shown basically being driven insane by it and secretly just wanting to be a tradwife all along, even to the point of threatening her man if he interferes with it. 

In Wanda, we have a woman who never mentioned wanting the white-picket-fence life before, suddenly being desperate to give up an icky career to be a stay-at-home-mom in the suburbs, just because of the kind of 'golden age' sitcoms Disney would love to be associated with.

And it's presented as a terrible tragedy that she doesn't get to keep this sheltered 'dream' 1950s nuclear-family life and the slaves sorry, ‘prisoners with jobs’ necessary to maintain it. 

The spirit of Kevin Feige’s pathetic self-insert, aka Endgame Skrull Steve, is alive and well.

(As usual, a black woman receives the brunt of the violence, and is then made to comfort Wanda about the 'sacrifice' she has made by giving her hex-slaves sorry, ‘prisoners with jobs', their freedom at the cost of her own comfort. 😯 Holy? SHIT??)

Wanda becoming a villain coincides exactly with her turning from white tradwifism and embracing her (career-related) power. 

As usual with Disney tho, they dun fucked up and accidentally made something you can also read as kinda queer? 

Like: a couple who can't have biological children of their own together (like queer couples)? Who don't get to have that white-picket-fence life? Getting run out of town for trying to live that fantasy anyway?

And then Wanda breaks bad because she's annoyed about that??

and d) what billionaires call ‘philanthropy’ is actually just using charities for tax write-offs, donating to their old alma maters, etc. 

Daddy was a basic bitch thief, who dealt in stolen vibranium, knew about TWS, co-founded SHIELDra, had a villain business partner, and was BFFs with a Nazi torturer of POWs, and the woman who- gawd -she just can’t stop working with Nazis, bless 'er! 

Tony was blowing up people in the Middle East for decades, making a bundle and very obviously enjoying himself (sipping on champagne while the missiles fly) and only stopped doing that, when- gasp -it affected him personally? 

(The villains of IM movies are the ones just: doing what Tony did.)

Despite claiming otherwise, he hung around with black market arms traffickers often enough for Ulysses Klaue to recognise one of his catchphrases and claim “Stark used to say that to me.” 

He helped design Project Insight and saw nothing wrong with it (we know he didn’t, because he kept arguing in favour of it / recreating it.)

Even after this, he lied and sneaked around behind the Avengers’ backs to hubristically tamper with alien tech in order to create Ultron, leading directly to the endangerment of the world and further deaths in Sokovia (in another universe, this almost destroyed the entire multiverse).

He co-signed Accords which violated human rights, not affecting him since he’s rich, just to shift future blame and responsibility off himself and make him look dateable to Pepper. He admitted he knew Bucky was a brainwashed “Manchurian Candidate” but tried to murder him (to spite Steve) anyway. 

He refused to call Steve back when Thanos was coming, just out of piqued pride (if you wanted to calculate the potential consequences of that, maybe: half of all life in the multiverse?) And when asked to help undo the Snap his ego helped create, he says he “won’t, even” because, hey, it doesn’t affect him personally so who gives a shit, right?? 

But like a true billionaire none of this ever has any consequences for him!

He only sees the inside of a jail when he’s visiting!

So what with his messianic nuclear-family ending you can see why Disney haven’t felt the need to sabotage his comics incarnation. MCU Tony is right on-message!

Rewatching starstruck (2010) and as much as I love this movie and the songs I always forget how much Jessica annoys me. I understand she's just a teenager but she's rude and belligerent for no reason, especially to Christopher, and she constantly refuses to see his side of things or understand his perspective throughout almost the entire movie. She also refuses to take any blame for anything that happens even when its partially or totally her fault (ie. Petunia sinking). Sure Christopher wasn't a perfect person and he made mistakes throughout the movie but she literally goes on a rant yelling at him and saying he's not a real person because he's rich and famous. He was literally a child star, he had no choice in the matter. She also constantly belittles his struggles because she doesn't understand them and believes he's just being a spoiled brat. Claiming that he has a choice in everything and he's choosing to play along with his parents like he's not literally a 16 year old child star.

She's such an unlikable protagonist and I have no idea why the writers would made her this way, even if they were trying to write a "realistic teenager". Imo her sister or Christopher are a more realistic teenage character, she's just difficult to watch.

This week on STP.  Soap Opera: Picard commences.

Not even gonna go there. If I wanted to read this type of plot, I would go read it where it belongs... In a fanfic. Eh. I am withholding judgement for now under the technicality that assumptions are not canon and i’m not sure if i’m being generous to the writers for giving them the benefit of the doubt or if i’m grasping at the last few straws i have, but here we are. 

Mostly, as somebody who isn’t even a tng lover i feel bad for what is apparently being done to beverly here like damn, really??

amanda plummer aced every second of screen time she had, kudos! Was legit threatening and nice visual references, also. 

Michelle Hurd also has me by the Neck. Raffi’s been mistreated so bad. This never should have been a thing she was told to do for very valid reasons. Also, in a vaguely introspective way i’m like okay Section 31... The people working for it probably aren’t the kind of people all steeped in starfleet principles. Which is why Raffi can’t do it. She is too principled of a person. 

Honestly thought the computer handler was threatening Raffi with that comment about another body. Was legit surprised she just managed to turn the screen off. 

The convo with the ex annoyed me because like, from the character exploration they did with Raffi last season there are canonically a few good reasons her family aren’t in contact with her that are legitimately a ‘her problem’ kind of thing. This is not what happened here and i felt they unintentionally leant into some uncomfortable sexist notions when doing it. And they could easily have made that less infuriating by just leaning on last season’s work instead. But then again, from the ex’s clientele it looks like he’s not like... The Most Moral Dude Ever? Actually... going back to S1 and Raffi’s son being on hyper-futuristic-capitalism-neon-hell-planet does actually speak to certain implications i’d not thought of until this. So fine, sense was made, but this is one of those things that’s more annoying for being Mostly fine but needing tweaking imo than something just straight up annoying that i could just write off easily.

Anyway, Raffi’s problem is she is genuinely a very good person and can’t stand to watch this shit without trying to help or fix it. Which while noble, doesn’t negate all her issues, but it sucks to see her get kicked down for being the only one who cares. I feel so hard why she was so Furious with Picard in S1 now. This is a sucky story to watch but yeah yeah it works with the context of the rest of the show, which I can’t say necessarily about a lot of other things in nostalgia bait s3. Standing ovation for our last remaining new character standing. May you remain standing till the very end. Preferably with Seven.

anyway, i think we can conclude that Shaw’s issue (aside from being a snide little butthead) is that he’s not meant for command. Not even in an insulting way, but somebody who can’t own their own decisions (blaming seven for the orders He gave, no matter how clear she was about her own feelings or the situation was out of line bc He still gave the orders) and then goes on to look the happiest he is the whole episode when an admiral forcibly takes control of his ship probably is not suited for the big chair.

Wait, I'm confused, what's happening with Barbra? Like I know she had a chip installed in her spine that allows her to walk and I know it was brought up in the books a while ago that the chip may not last much longer but how is Nightwing book being albeist towards her?

So to begin with, the whole thing with the chip was ableism in general, it was altering a very visual disability into something more subtle and palatable for an able-bodied audience so she could be Batgirl again and it could only get brought up when it was convenient. Now that itself isn’t on Taylor or the current Nightwing run, this choice was made in 2011 and imo DiDio is at core the person to blame for that since the New 52 & erasing Steph & Cass’ importance as Batgirls was his whole thing.

At the end of Joker War last year DC made the move to begin transitioning Babs from her role as Batgirl back into acting as Oracle, which at first sounds good… except they’re missing the point of Oracle because that identity is inherently tied to Barbara being a disabled woman. As annoying as having her back in Batgirl has been, at least that’s the identity she created before being shot. But Oracle was created so that she could continue doing hero work as a wheelchair user, and putting her back into that identity without letting her be visibly disabled is, again, missing the entire point. Now, that as a choice falls more on the Batbook editorial team (like if we want to put specific names we could say Abernathy since he’s the lead editor and Tynion as lead writer), since they’ve been making the bigger calls about batbooks.

The current Nightwing run comes into the picture after Joker War, and now Babs is heavily featured, acting as Oracle while… still able-bodied. Again, not inherently Taylor’s choice and I do believe him when he says it’s not something he alone has the power to change, but the way he has been approaching things in regards to the subject has been getting a lot of criticism because it’s been very careless. Books have been regularly hinting her chip is going to fail for well over a year now, and yet in the most recent issue of Nightwing, Babs takes on a new Batgirl costume and decides to go back out in the field because as Oracle she wasn’t able to accomplish what she felt she needed to.

Her going out as Batgirl again was probably not really his call, because this is all part of the bigger Fear State event, BUT the way he has her talk about why is the big problem that is entirely on Taylor because he wrote the words. I made a post about this when the issue first came out, but to reiterate…

Portraying Oracle as limited like this, when in the previous continuity something like this situation would not have even remotely stopped her, is ableist. It’s saying that what she can do while she’s disabled isn’t “enough”

Was he probably told by editorial he had to get from point A (Babs acting as Oracle) to point B (Babs going out in a new Batgirl suit)? Sure. But he did NOT need to write her downplaying what Oracle can accomplish to do that.

The way Babs is being written in the Nightwing book in particular (although frankly I DO think we also should be calling attention to it as she shows up in other books, its just that Taylor’s been the most annoying in response to criticism on twitter so the conversations go on longer, and his book features her probably most heavily) is not respectful to Oracle and what Oracle stands for, and that is the problem.

Not all of the fault for the entire situation is on this single run, it’s a deeper problem that’s been at DC for a decade now, but the Nightwing run is most heavily featuring it so choosing not to financially or otherwise support it (no matter how much they try to lure us in with a cute dog or fingerstripes or a romantic pairing you might like) until it does better is a big way we can show DC that we don’t want to put up with this shit anymore.

what makes you think the writers want deancas? not trying to be an asshole, i'm just genuinely curious as to why you think that. i know berens' episodes are pretty heavy with subtext so i can see why you'd say that he wants it, but i'm not so sure about the rest of the writers/dabb. it seems like meghan isn't a huge fan either, given her "they twisted it so fast" tweet :/ of course she's a very new writer (think she's only writing one ep this season?) but still

OKAY this is a great question, welcome to my dissertation.

I’m going to address the end of your question first. Meghan is actually DeanCas positive, she has been for quite a long time. She actually, a few years back, posted a picture of her reading a literal book about Destiel and captioned it “writing reading” or something like that.

This whole thing just comes out of a boiling over of tensions because of how nasty fandom twitter can be. Like I said here, I think this has just gotten blown out of proportion, they shouldn’t have posted all this randomly disparaging stuff, but also like...can you blame them? The fandom is a lot, we always have been, and they’re probably also under a gag order not to talk about the finale, and are annoyed that people keep asking.

So nah, Meg is not anti Destiel.

To the first part!! So let’s take a look at the show runners since Cas has been around.

Seasons 4 and 5: Kripke

Seasons 6 and 7: Gamble

Seasons 8-11ish: Carver

Seasons 11ish-15: Dabb

So starting with Kripke. Okay, yes, I will be the first to admit that we have some pretty incredible Destiel moments in these seasons, but it’s less directly written into the plot and much more from Misha and Jensen’s uhhhh ~chemistry~. The only times it was directly written into the script was when the episode was handled by someone like Edlund (“On The Head Of A Pin,” “The End,” “My Bloody Valentine”). And you have to remember, if in season 5, there are moments here and there where you’re like huh that’s suspiciously romantic dialogue, remember that Cas took Anna’s place. Anna was supposed to be endgame for Dean, but due to a myriad of issues and Misha’s general greatness, Anna was replaced with Cas.

Onto 6 and 7. Hmmm. Gamble. 6 and 7 are my two least favorite seasons and that’s no secret, and that’s not only due to the plain old weird shit in the overall storyline, but also that homegirl killed off Cas in s7 and then Bobby like four episodes later. (Also it ALWAYS rubbed me the wrong way they couldn’t have Baby in that season lol). We still had some great DeanCas moments, but again, it wasn’t really written into the overall arc (until they had to change the end of season 7 because of tanking ratings and bring Misha back lol, anyone remember the fact that Dean kept Cas’ jacket and would randomly dream of him? Yeah.). But we still had those moments, those distinctly romantic moments, probably the best example in these two seasons is from Edlund again, specifically “The Man Who Would be King,” I wrote a little about that here.

We move onto Carver, who gave us, at this point, the most overt DeanCas season with season 8 (season gr8 is a better name imo), and this is the first time Dean and Cas’ relationship is directly written as an arc of the season.  I mean, you have everything in Purgatory, Dean “seeing” Cas everywhere, the fact that he felt so guilty that Cas stayed in Purgatory that he manipulated his own memories to think that he was the one that failed Cas, because he couldn’t comprehend that Cas would want to leave him, and let’s not forget Dean snapping Cas out of Naomi’s hold on him in “Goodbye Stranger.”  It was a very obvious shift, not enough to alert the general audience, but more than enough for most of us in fandom.

It’s also important to note that this is when Andrew stopped co writing with Loflin and started writing his own episodes (”Hunter Heroici” anyone?)  I like Loflin fine, but Dabb was able to stretch his legs a little bit more once he stopped co-writing, and we also began to see some DeanCas themes in his solo episodes.

In any case, them and their issues being a big part of the seasons continued with Carver, and Berens entered the scene, his first episode (”Heaven Can’t Wait”) is one of my favorites, with human Cas and the fanfiction gap and Dean and Cas just generally being awkward and funny and sweet.  This is Bobo’s FIRST episode, remember that.  He comes right out of the gate with it.

Also in Season 9, this is when Dean takes the Mark of Cain, and the Cas/Colette mirror is born, so obviously, Dean and Cas are the fabric of the season once again.  This is also the season where Metatron says Cas is “in love with humanity,” and then immediately refers to Dean as Humanity so uhhhh yeah.

Onto season 10, Dabb and Berens continue with their greatness (I could write pages on the DeanCas date in “The Things We Left Behind” alone).  And then we have one of the best scenes in the entire show in “The Prisoner” where the Cas/Colette mirror continues and Dean, driven by grief and pain and rage and the Mark, still doesn’t kill Cas.  He still can’t kill Cas.

Season 11 is important because it takes choice away from both Cas and Dean, and shows us, as the audience, how much losing each other takes out of them. We saw in season 10 how much losing Dean takes from Cas, but what about Cas losing Dean?  Dean loses his choice with his connection to Amara this season, and loses even more when Lucifer reveals he’s been possessing Cas, and plays on Dean’s connection to Cas like a mockery.  It’s also worth noting that, similarly to season 8, Dean breaks out of the connection with Amara when he’s worried about Cas, and that’s something that even SHE is surprised by.

But then season 12, the beginning to the Renaissance.  This is when we get the writer’s that become important for what Dean and Cas are today, and, truly, why I believe they want canon Destiel as much as we do.

This is the first season with Dabb’s writers: Davy Perez, Meredith Glynn, Steve Yockey, and of course Bobo all come in with their incredible talents and gave us episode after episode of good content.  “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets” is probably my favorite, probably the best example of what I’m saying.  An episode where Dean is called out by an enemy directly, told to “roll the dice” on Cas’ life.  And Dean won’t, it’s not even really a hesitation.  And this comes from a character that has known Dean for ten seconds.  I also wrote more in depth about this episode here.  There are also some.....distinctly domestic details we get this season, specifically in “The Future” (written by Berens and Glynn) with the mixtape.  The most tropey of tropes mixtape.  Yeah, I’ll just leave that one here.

And then season 12 ends with Cas’ death, but also with the parallel between Sam and Dean with Jess and Cas.  Sam literally has to drag Dean away from Cas, just like Dean had to drag Sam out of his burning apartment in the pilot.  The episode drives it home in every way that it can: Dean is the one left kneeling by Cas’ body, while Sam goes to find out what is upstairs.  Dean is the one who stares at the sky, finally broken.  This isn’t a random thing, this is Dean’s whole arc, it’s the entirety of the beginning of 13.  Dean’s pain, his anguish, his anger.

Season 13 starts with them burning Cas, with Dean, who has begged God to bring him back, who has split his knuckles punching a door, standing, staring at Cas’ pyre with brokenness on his face.

I mean.....

Anyway, season 13 is where it gets interesting (well, I think all of this is interesting but I’m a writer nerd so).  So Cas comes back from the Empty in “Advanced Thanatology” written by Steve Yockey, and then a wombo combo of “Tombstone” by Davy Perez next (”Brokebacknatural” as the PR said at the time).  Listen.  This is the part that SPN crossed a line that they couldn’t come back from.  With Cas being Dean’s “big win,” the fact that Dean and Cas watch movies together, “I told you, he’s an angry sleeper.  Like a bear.” Talked about it here.

This is where, in my opinion, the network stepped in, but the damage was already done.  They had already established that Cas was Dean’s big win, that Dean’s poor coping was not due to Mary’s disappearance, but solely due to Cas, and that Dean and Cas have more married energy than anyone else.  The network had nixed blatant canon at this point, and they writing room had been pushing the boundaries of what the network would allow. 

After these episodes, we see a marked drop off of DeanCas heavy scenes.  They’re still there, still a part of the fabric of the season, but not as...obvious as it had been in early season 13.

And this continued through season 14, we’re back to scraps of Destiel scenes here and there, but to me it always felt like there was something bubbling under the surface, something distinctly unsaid in the themes of the season, even after the walk back of obvious “Dean and Cas are in love” scenes.

And then we get to season 15, which, y’all know I talk about all the time.  What’s important here is that Bobo and Glynn are both executive producers, calling more of the shots than ever before.  Additionally, it’s important to note that, though they only co write occasionally, Glynn and Berens refer to each other as “work husband” and “work wife.”  Each episode has just turned up the volume, and, not for the first time, but certainly the most obvious, Dean and Cas ARE the season.  Sure, they’re trying to beat God, they’re trying to finally find peace, defeat the final big bad, but really?  This season has been about Dean, and Dean’s relationship to Cas.

And not only do we have obvious and clear Destiel in nearly every episode, but we have episodes like “Last Call” which canonize bi!Dean (wrote about that here).

And, maybe most importantly so far, we have “The Rupture,” the breakup, and “The Trap,” Dean’s confession (both written by Berens).  And here’s the thing.  These episodes feel connected, but also feel like they’re missing something.  Beren’s last episode is 15x18, “The Truth.”  We’ve all spec’ed about what could happen in this episode, and I think *I* know what it’s leading to.  But for it to be leading to that, it means that the network has to have approved what we’ve all been waiting for years for.

Who got this change to happen?  Who got the network to change their minds?  It wasn’t us.  It was them.  I am fully convinced that Dabb and Berens quite literally put their careers on the line for Dean and Cas.  They believe in them, they’ve shown that from the beginning, but the only thing standing in the way was the network, never allowing them to take the final step. 

So, to answer your question: I think the writers want canon DeanCas because they’ve already shown us that they do.  Take a look at their episodes, at Dabb’s, at Beren’s, at Glynn’s, at Perez’s, at Yockey’s.  They’ve been telling us what’s going on with Dean and Cas for years.

Sure, I’m not in their heads, I guess I don’t know for *sure* that this has been their thought process, but if we put it all together, from the marked shift when Dabb fully took over in s12, to the change right after “Tombstone,” to the new shift, the blatantly romantic shift in season 15, what else is there?

I’ve said for a long time that we, the SPN fandom, are beyond lucky to have the writer’s that we do.  They’re all going to go on to have prolific careers and we were lucky to get them at the end of our little show.  I give them a lot of credit for what we have in the show today.

Just remember, they’ve been telling us in all of s15 who Chuck is.  He says he’s the writer, right?  But a writer who doesn’t have control of his characters?  A writer who wants to do the same ending over and over because it “works”?  That doesn’t sound like a writer, it sounds like a network exec.

They’ve been showing us what they want for years, and the way s15 is going?  I think they may have convinced the network to let us have it.

i have so much to say about riley okay. i love riley. i really feel the writers basically destroyed his character in order to get rid of him for plot reasons. imo buffy’s “distance” in their relationship was way overblown. the text of the show said she was keeping him at arm’s length but honestly i don’t really see it? show don’t tell. season 5 had some sprinkles of an interesting arc for riley, with self destructiveness and feeling lost and such, but they threw in such ridiculousness as the vampire affair thing (which i was never really clear on if it was supposed to be drugs or s*x work) and being SO pissy about buffy’s slayerness. yes make him insecure but i would much rather have seen it focused on him being sad/jealous that she has a mission and a framework and a parent figure that he no longer has. yes make him struggle to adjust to civilian life culminating in him leaving again but don’t blame buffy for it. either that, or make it clearer that she was being distant. because i do think that could’ve been an important point for her character but they JUST DIDNT SHOW IT and didn’t do anything with it afterwards anyway! i mean ok you show her getting out of bed to hunt vampires, you show her being a little distracted because her MOTHER might be DYING, but like. idk if this is a controversial opinion but no matter how many times i watch s5 i just don’t see it, at least not to the point i think we’re supposed to. xander’s convo with buffy in into the woods makes me want to punch him. anyway this got rambly but the point is that i think riley’s character really suffered from lazy writing with misogynistic undertones. he spends the entirety of season 4 being someone that i think the fandom would remember more fondly and listen i’m not opposed to his whole self destruction thing! it makes sense! but they took ALL of his issues and made it about Girlfriend Stronger Than Me >:(. he loses so much with walsh, military structure, faith in government, clear morality of demons bad humans good.. but the show is all focused on his physical loss and it annoys me. anyway i love him and i adore your hypothetical riley & jenny interactions

so i haven't seen season five in like forever which is why i've been so non-confident in my take being exactly like yours, but this ask is so GRATIFYING. like from what i remember of season five, riley was written out in the same kinda halfhearted, cruel way that imo has a lot in common with oz -- it's abrupt, it's not a sendoff, and it's a reason for him to not stay in contact with the scoobies. and like you say, there is SO much interesting stuff that they could have done with riley that just gets sidelined as the show instead focuses in on his masculinity! as though any Normal Man would on principle feel uncomfortable with a girl who's stronger than him, and riley is therefore a representation of that normalcy rejecting buffy. but that take so ignores riley's personal motivations + his potential as a character and i haaaaaate that.

and yeah, it just feels so weird that riley would react to buffy drawing away because her MOTHER IS DYING and be like "you need to handle your grief in a way i can understand." like that is such a horrible move that does not at all mesh with his season four characterization, made WORSE by the fact that the show itself tries to frame riley as the one in the right. season five seems to try and really push this idea that riley was Driven to be terrible because of buffy not being good enough for him, and watching it leaves a rotten taste in my mouth. it makes sense that people would be upset about riley's season five characterization, but i think the ire should be directed towards the show rather than the character.

I’m majorly disappointed, angry, and absoutletly confused beyond imagination with that S8 Finale - but let me rant to get over my enduring nausea. Beyond the storyline, I find the BTS drama of it all so intriguingly telling. And sadly for us Nathan Fans the drama may be the only WCTH thing left for us to even connect to without watching this increasingly sadistic show.

Everyone knows it was the wrong choice and Lucas fans are coping hard with their win (not sure why they need to) by behaving like the most pompous, egotistical, pretentious, sore winners that I’ve ever witnessed. I see many comments from them that suggest: “Nathan wouldn’t take no for an answer”, “Elizabeth never gave him signs of romance”, “it was always very obvious it was Lucas” or my FAVORITE one... and just wait to hear this BS... “If you don’t keep tuning into WCTH, Nathan Fans, you never liked the show anyway”... 😒 The disrespect that Nathan fans have received is unfathomable, especially when we are told we are “throwing tantrums bc Lucas won” or “we wrongfully believed the world revolves around us”. But look, the reason Lucas fans are acting terribly is because they didn’t expect to ‘win’. They know deep down the chances after S7 of Elizabeth being with Lucas were lower than they could have ever gotten (the hug and all). The best part is scrolling back through the WCTH tag on tumblr.... I have read various posts from Lucas fans that fully expected to “never watch again if Nathan was picked”... It’s so annoying because both sides were going to be upset either way, but in Team Nathan’s circumstance: we were continuously beat down this season by the writers. It became bigger than who was going to win. It’s the disrespect of dragging us along for S8 to get ratings and to secure a S9 renewal - because let’s be real they weren’t going to pair her with Lucas in episode two and expect people to keep the good ratings going. Nathan fans in every poll I’ve witnessed (fb polls or even the one Erin did for Direct TV the other day) averages 70% Nathan and 30% Lucas EVERYTIME with no fail. Here’s the next thing: the Post-Finale interview with Erin, Chris, and Kevin was even worse. The first thing they do is basically pop open the champagne and throw the kiss in everyone’s face (btw ew, it’s like an adult film...) and celebrate that she picked Lucas. Of course, Erin attempts to play it down that she “had mixed feelings about the ending” but ya know all with a big Cheshire Cat grin on her face. I have a feeling she just picked the guy she’d best like to make out with for S9... 🙄 Lord knows that’s all Jack and Elizabeth ever did was fight and make out. Anyway, only Kevin addressed any remorse for Nathan fans and even then I don’t for the life of me understand why he accepts being the second choice when he’s lead material. Honestly, I say, Kevin should leave the show, bc he deserves more than this phony unwanted story its been hijacked into. Sadly, from the interview I get the sinking feeling that the next angle they have been just waiting to take is that “Nathan put himself in this situation by not backing down (though imo he did way too little of)”. Why would they do such a thing, you ask? To hype Lucas fans up (with delusion) and to possibly attract a newer audience (post-Nathan fans departing the show) bc they wouldn’t know the BTS details on how they settled on Lucas and the baggage that came with. Who knows if that will happen, but it wouldn’t surprise me they would go that below the belt after the writers made Elizabeth suggest that ‘Nathan would just never obtain Jack level qualities she would look for in a man’... All in all, these people used Nathan fans and honestly I feel my kindness abused with all the support I’ve given the show and taken advantage of all for some cheap a$$ ratings. Next step forward: Hope #TeamNathan sticks to their word about not watching the show, bc why reward sadistic nonsense???? Heck, forget the sadistic nonsense, it’s just terrible writing. Support FanFiction writers when it comes to Nathan and Elizabeth, not WCTH. THOUGH if I were the glass-half-full kind of gal I would say... ya know what, maybe they have tricked us into thinking the love triangle is over? Oh there’s always the “you’re not a true Heartie” bullshit after something happens that people are even mildly upset about.  There’s definitely the notion that Hearties should NEVER have anything negative to say about the show and if they do then they were never a true fan.  It’s ridiculous.

Nathan has been the punching bag this whole time.  He got so much hate for being involved in Jack’s death.  Fans blamed him for killing Jack as if he’d shot him himself or something.  They hated on Allie constantly because she was merely acting her age.  It was awful and pathetic.  Nathan fans had to endure all of that and for what?  The character got fucked over in the end.  He’ll go on to better things, surely, but that’s not the point.  None of it needed to happen if he wasn’t going to end up with Elizabeth.  Bottom line.

They should just give Nathan and Allie a spinoff.

I agree with Kishimoto never trying to use the girls. The hate they get is not fair. I used to defend Sakura back in the days because I hoped kishi would do her justice. When shippuden started I WAS SO HAPPY because I thought this was the start of something great for Sakura and the girls but NOOOOO. Every time, Sasuke showed kishi turned her brainless. If you compare Naruto's actions and Sakura's actions to sasuke, you'd see they're completely different. What's up with that weird fake love confession scene 😭? It makes her look like she was manipulating Naru. JEEZ.

Also he literally had badass Tenten and Temari with cool useful abilities and he didn't use them ?! TF ?! Thank god for modern authors who treat their characters with respect :)

The way I see it, Sakura's character development in shippuden was always one step forward, two steps back. She gets this really badass scene (like her fight with Sasori and those cool ass medical skills) but is then regressed back into a pining girl in love every time Sauce is on screen or Kishi just throws her in the background YET AGAIN.

I love Sakura's abilities actually. Her brute strength, intelligence, vast knowledge and skill as a medic nin. But what I dislike about her character is how kishi handled her feelings for Sasuke. Naruto and Sakura's obsession with Sasuke was so???? huh??? it was so damn toxic and i never once understood why both Nardo and Sak were so obsessed with him. They were a team for one year???? I mean its great that they care about him alot but Sauce's feelings were kinda valid. His freakin clan died. Id go batshit crazy against my own village too. BUT BESIDES THAT. Both Nart and Sakura's Sasuke obsession was so annoying. 80% of shippuden was literally Keeping up with the Uchihas or Naruto yelling SASUKEH. BUT what irks me so much is the fandom's double standards with both Naruto and Sakura. "Oh Sakura shouldve gotten over her Sasuke obsession" but then turn around and call Naruto's obsession cute and gush about how he's so in love with him!!

Hot take but the only reason why sasunaru is "the most developed ship with the most chemistry" is because theyre both male characters.

I guarantee you if Naruto was a girl and SHE would be the one to have this unhealthy obsession who was chasing around Sasuke, the fandom would shit on Naruto just as much. And if Sasuke were a girl, Sauce would be sidelined like the rest of the female cast and Naruto would have another male character to have a "brotherly bond" with, because thats the only bond Kishimoto is actually good at developing. Yey for male characters having all the screentime and cool assets <333

And about that confession scene, I get her intentions. I really do. I understand that she did that in order to bring him home and that she cares about him but honey, w-why?? Why lie to him about your feelings?? Supposed he DID believe her, then what? then what kishi???? huh??? Some of her fans point the blame on Sai or whatever but I personally dont see why that scene was at all necessary. Maybe to establish Naruto's feelings for her wasnt all that serious? or his maturity? idk man. That scene was such a clusterfuck.

In the end her development in The Last and in Boruto was immaculate. She had one of the best glow ups in the old gen and ironically enough, her character wasn't butchered in Boruto. She got badass scenes she was cheated from in shippuden. I also love how she's finally getting the spotlight she deserves. Unlike the other konoha 12 :,)))

Okay onto the next female character that Kishi completely wasted. My baby. My light. 🙈 AAAHHH HINATAA.

Let me just establish this real quick. Hinata's goal was to get stronger because of Naruto, her goal was never to be with Naruto. She wanted to become someone who is worthy enough to stand beside him, someone whom he can consider as an equal, as a partner. She NEVER once said "marrying Naruto-kun is my all time goal UwU" (if youre one of those weirdos who interpret her character that way, youre immediately invalid, go take a hike)

I personally dont have anything against their crushes but to the point of making their personalities revolve around these guys every time theyre onscreen is so fucking frustrating. And with the way he writes their dialogues is so.damn.cringey. Like that one scene in the war arc with Tsunade and Madara

If im being honest. Hinata's character is actually kinda well written. Not well executed. Dear God no. But with the way he set her story, her personality, her chracterization. She's honestly one of the best written female characters on the show. IMO. By Kishi's standards of writing women ofc. She's hands down one of the most complex characters. Her shy personality wasnt out of the blue, it wasnt a cutesy waifu trait. Her abusive upbringing made her that way. Her trauma turned her that way. So yeah, sue her if she looked up to Naruto as an inspiration when everyone else in her family treated her like dust. Shit on her for having Naruto's love light in her dark when her own damn father wouldnt even look her in the eye and her entire clan shunned her because she was "weak." She doesnt owe her family shit so idgaf what they do with the Hyuga clan. Neji and Hanabi aren't included btw

Im not gonna deny that her role in the show was only as the love interest but tbh for a love interest, Im glad her character wasnt so one dimensional. It just pains me SO MUCHHH how fucking wasted she is. Every time she's with Naruto, they always make her into a damsel in distress. They always feel the need to turn Naruto into the heroic prince. Hnggggg dont get me started with her role in Boruto. She's as relevant as a damn houseplant in the manga. They made her into an invisible trophy wife and "the mc's mother" and we all KNOW what happens to the shounen mc's mother once mc is in need of character development :) Quit putting her in the background. Give us that scene where she won against Hanabi DESPITE being retired for years. Give us that scene where she trains Boruto. GIVE US ANY FIGHT SCENE OF HER WHERE HER POTENTIAL ISNT WASTED WTF?¿

Now if you say that Hinata didnt have development. YOURE INVALID. She came from an abusive household, the shyest girl in her class, her insecurities got in the way of her own confidence, had difficulty of standing up for herself now became a loving mother of two, has the guts to kick her husband out of the house(with whom she couldnt even keep eye contact with when she was a kid) became the strongest hyuga, most supportive wife and mother, and has given her kids the comforting childhood she never had as a kid.

She has one of the most beautiful stories in the show and if you think her personality is only Naruto-kun and big boobs, then im sorry that you cant appreciate such a heartwarming story.

And I agree, killing her would honestly make me feel more at ease than continue to see her suffer because of godawful misogynistic writers. But at least let her die in an epic fight. Please. PLEASEE. She got nerfed so bad, i feel a physical pain every time i think about it

Okay what else. I think Ino got pretty good development. Another wasted potential in shippuden but she's doing good for herself in Boruto. I dont know what Temari is up to. They basically made her into another classic angry mom who beats up her husband for comedy trope. Haha very funny and original! Im not sure with her career, im not that invested in the anime.

oh G O D Tenten. The dirtiest of all. Her jokes about her screentime is so mean and i hate that its true ahsjhs. She was the only female character in OG who's goal wanted to be as strong as Tsunade but what did Kishi do to her?? Sidelined. Forgotten. Irrelevant. Like every damn female on the show :D

Konan shouldnt have died. I blame plot armor. I know in my heart that Konan wouldve kicked Obito's ass if it weren't for Kishi's boomer mindset.

Tsunade had so much hype when she was introduced but died down in the war arc. Madara wiped the floor with the kages. Holy shit. Not only that, but yipee! Naruto is there to save the day AGAIN!!!!

so i gotta say, it was pretty easy to decide which characters i like, but the least favorite top is a bit harder because i mostly don't feel anything for everyone outside of the characters i like, so this is more a "top 5 characters that annoy me at times" than a least favorite/most disliked characters you know

i'm sorry for this one, i don't know how to explain. i've tried, i've really tried, and there ARE scenes where i think she's cute and all, but i have such a hard time with nina and i don't know why. her vibes are just off to me idk, i don't...like her, and i can't pinpoint why

listen he's not a bad guy but he annoys me a lot. also i really liked tamara and she started becoming super annoying when she started dating him, and now there's this weird thing with mora and i love mora and i'm afraid ricardo is gonna do the same thing to her so i'm definitely blaming him. i wish his scenes were shorter because i honestly don't enjoy him

3. matteo

he's a dick, plain and simple. sometimes he's funny so that's why he's not higher, i enjoy his scenes with gaston and sometimes simon. i wish i could stop him from interacting with women

if you skipped every single one of their scenes the episodes would be 15min shorter without changing anything to the plot. they're not funny, they're annoying and their attitude is often borderline disrecpectful, both towards amanda, miguel and monica, or even luna and it's just annoying. the only thing i like about them is that they actually care about luna, i think it's cute, but that doesn't save them

i know i don't have to explain this one but i will! legit hate her ass because she has no goddamn point. she's so bad. like you know sharon for exemple, she's a bad person but she's such a GOOD antagonist and she's genuinely one of my favorite soy luna characters because i love me some fucked up but interesting women. she's abusive and manipulative, she's the worst, but she has goals, she has a personality, she girlbosses gatekeeps gaslights and i LOVE watching her do this, even when it's towards ambar and it breaks my heart.

but daniela? she has none of that, she's just a genuinely awful person and an awful character, everything about her arc was so bad, she had...no point. like bringing lumon together i guess but the way they did it was genuinely so bad. bad writing overall, i hated her arc so much i HAD to spoil myself, and thank god she was only there for a few episodes because if this arc was longer than that i would have seriously considered dropping the show because of how unbearable she was to me

i cannot tell you how excited i am for her character arc, i enjoy how complex she is, how many layers her character has. so far she's not a fav fav but i feel for her a lot and i know my enjoyment of her will only grow

she's a very cute mc!! i think she's overall such an endearing character, she has flaws but it just makes her more interesting in my eyes, and the writers could tone down the main character syndrome a bit but i expected it so she's a really good surprise so far, i like her

best boy!!! i really like him! he's cute and wholesome and while there are things i wish he would have done differently regarding his feelings for luna, it was such a nice surprise to see him not fall into the nice guy trap. it'd be so easy for him to do it so when i see he mostly avoids it very well it's !! finally a decent man in a telenovela. outside of that i think he's super cute and i really like him

2. delfi

i couldn't tell you why i like her so much but i DO. she has such an interesting character arc too, it's one of the most natural in the show imo. she's changed a lot since the beginning of the season, but i adore everything i saw about her. i love that she's kind and caring with those she loves but still is very bitchy, she's super cute and interesting and just!! i love her!!

ok so ramiro was THE surprise in this show for me. i watched the first ep and saw him interact for one second with jim and yam and sighed out loud, expecting him to be unbearable. and here we are now, at the first place of this top 5. i LOVE his personality, i feel like he brings such a distinctive light to every scene he's in, i love his arrogance and his charisma and how down to earth he is at the same time. he reminds me a lot of s1 leon in the way that his character development is never shoved in your face, it's never the focus of anything but it's probably one of the most important ones. his development is so natural and interesting, i LOVE his relationships with everyone else and he just makes me smile a lot. like watching sl is sometimes a bit taxing to me, because i'm not that attached to a lot of characters, but then there's a scene with ramiro and it's such a breath of fresh air. i love him, i can't wait to see what's next for him in s2 and 3.

Just saw a post from someone I follow that was blaming Hero Society and BJ attitude because instead of worrying for Endeavor's abuse he is worrying for Hero Society, and calling abuse apologist those that acted like that, saying that heroes just don't care because it's not going to benefit them (like a televised battle). Like damn, I understand your point but 1- We haven't read the official translation 2- I think you are making assumptions and 3-he is a hero, seeing a criminal exposing his past as a "hey, no.1 hero abused me so therefore we shouldn't trust any heroes" and seems to be actually manipulating the audience, so BJ, a hero who protects and who needs people to trust him and hero society, can't afford to be emotional in that situation since there's literally a battle with the LOV, where Dabi is, and heroes actually need to fight to save people. I had to shut down my own mentality and feelings just for the sake of trying to understand what was happening with Dabi on TV and that comment and while I'm not okay with his methods and BJ could have been more tactful or maybe care more about Endeavor's abuse, I guess that my idea is that we don't really need to drag everyone down and make things worse than what they actually are because of a bias...

+ I had to personally un follow the account since it has annoyed me in the past even if I like their blogs, I mean, I'm not a fan of things being treated like that and letting your own bias take control of your mentality, I just prefer when things are treated in a more rational matter than this. I really get their point I just would like that we could be a little more mindful of things before doing then, idk. It has make me think about how people can easily attach to these stories and just assume how things are going to happen or what is happening in the story, then complaining if it's not like that and sometimes blaming the writer instead of rereading just to see if you have lost something or make a mistake in your opinion (which is not the case right now, but it happens), I guess you're the only blog I follow that sometimes let her own opinions blind her but still knows how to address things and making sure that what you're saying is canon, saying that it's your own interpretation, and just having personal headcanons but rarely claiming that they are true on your own.

Rationality is usually lost when it comes to strong emotions, especially when abuse is mentioned.

It’s still wrong to label Best Jeanist as an abuse apologist though based on a few fan translated leaks and ignoring the context of what is happening at the moment. As you said, Dabi painting all heroes like they’re rotten to the core is going to have a massive negative impact on how they can do their jobs considering they require the trust of the public (and it’s a hard thing to get considering the heroes have constantly been under fire from them), especially because it’s a very biased take of him that completely misinterprets all heroes based on the actions of one (as Tozhan put it in a message to me, Dabi plucked a rotten apple off a tree and then declared all of them to be rotten without checking the rest :/).

Best Jeanist isn’t excusing Endeavor’s abuse but more condemning Dabi’s choice of actions which is something that all of the fandom has been doing (or at least on my dash), so I don’t know why Best Jeanist is under fire for it. I don’t want to say he should have been less callous on how he dealt with the issue until the official translations came out but from a rational perspective, I can understand why he’s upset.

I wish more people would be objective when examing the characters feelings. There will be a logical, or should be, reason why they feel that way that has been expressed in the story and all you have to do is find those reasons to make the character make sense (and even then you don’t have to agree with them. Case in point, I understand why the League are the way they are but still don’t agree with them.)

(Also, I feel like a lot more blogs could benefit from going “I was wrong” instead of blaming the writing. There’s nothing shameful about misinterpreting things, I’ve done it many times and have been corrected by friends and anons alike and then apologised for doing so and amended my opinion. It’s the only way to remain as unbiased as possible when tackling the manga imo.

And I know this might be strange to say but I’m happy to hear that anon (not the fact that I’m the only blog you follow that does but the fact that I do XD). I try hard to stick to canon as unbiased as possible and openly admit when I’m not the best person to talk about something due to my bias (i.e. when discussing Shigaraki or Hawks wings) so I’m happy to hear that when I am biased, it doesn’t bother people as much as I’m open about the fact... Does that make sense?)

What are your thoughts about fic that makes Myra just someone misunderstood and just toxic for Eddie that has nothing to do with her being a bad/abusive person while at the same time making Richie's parents abusive/neglectful? Like for me personally it rubs me the wrong way, but I don't know how to put it in words :/

I’ve said just about everything I will ever need to say about my thoughts on Myra in this post. That being said, I generally don’t read fic where she is a featured character because either A) it’ll be a really exaggerated portrayal that goes far beyond what she’s like in the book, making her out to be worse than she is and infantilizing Eddie as a result, or B) it goes in the opposite direction and makes their marriage perfectly fine and woobifies her, or C) she’s exactly like she is in the novel, meaning… she’s toxic and very annoying. In any case, I don’t care to read about her! Like, Eddie himself literally couldn’t care less about her, so it’s not necessary to include her as anything more than a footnote in his life, imo.

Re: the Toziers… at this point I will flat out stop reading any fic that makes them out to be abusive or neglectful. I don’t care how good the rest of it is, if the Toziers are bad then it’s not content I want to engage with. I blame Andy for that trend (thinking about that horrid obituary… ugh). But also, most of the time, the abuse people put Richie through is so sensationalized and like, weird. Idk, I feel like sometimes people fetishize abuse for the sake of hurt/comfort and that makes me feel icky. Also I’ve found that sometimes, if the Toziers are horribly abusive in a fic, there’s this weird trade-off where Sonia is portrayed as not that bad in comparison, when she’s the one who is actually abusive in canon. And it’s like… why??? There’s no reason to do that. So yeah, the Toziers being portrayed negatively is a red flag for me, which is why I just X out when I come across it. Not everyone who does this is a bad writer or anything like that, sometimes they genuinely just don’t know any better because of Andy’s portrayal, but either way I don’t want to read about it.

I’m just really not here for putting abuse where it doesn’t belong. If people want to write abusive dynamics that badly, Sonia is right there, and Bev’s entire life is right there. No need to bring the Toziers into it.

When I started shipping them: Before part 2 came around and because of one image I saw of them lol

My thoughts: I feel that even if they wouldn't have ended up together, they could have been good friends, particularly in childhood and bond over the fact that they are ignored by their father and in shadow of their sibling.

What makes me happy about them: That there are so many subtle similarities between them and there was never any negativity concerning them.

What makes me sad about them: That they haven't spoken to each other at all!

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I think I've seen a few fics that make Hinata bolder than she really is and it irks me cause she doesn't need to be like that to make the dynamic work.

Things I look for in fanfic: Good canon representation, slight horror as well, whether AU or not.

My wishlist: I have too many but the main one I have atm is Sasuke actually killing Naruto and becoming Hokage and Hinata trying to deal with this and whether she'd try to oppose him as others have tried.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: For Sasuke...I think maybe with someone who doesn't just blindly love him but actually sees him more than handsome so perhaps some unknown girl/civilian even (I don't ship Sasukarin really). As for Hinata, I think...maybe Lee (or Kiba) would be nice? Because they would pay attention to her more than Naruto would imo.

My happily ever after for them: I think Hinata will stay true to her words and stop chasing Naruto while Naruto helps Sasuke get justice (with either Sasuke or Naruto as Hokage) and they could meet when the branch member seals are being abolished and so, start getting closer to being acquainted. Time will then, do the rest.

How I feel about this character: I feel she had a lot of potential with Kishi not giving her enough attention and SP giving the wrong kind of attention to her.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Nejihina

My unpopular opinion about this character: I had really hoped that she would be able to move on from Naruto because she knows he likes Sakura (he called her his girlfriend while she was present) and I hate how people fail to see that Naruto's ignorance of her confession is mostly overlooked.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish she would've never had those thoughts about Naruto's hand during Neji's death and that she got more than one panel of standing in front of his grave. I wanted her to at least try and ask to get side branch member's seal removed.

Favorite friendship for this character: Sakuhina (especially if we were shown more and that doesn't involve love interests). Another one is Nejihina

to veer in a completely different direction: i watched that tjlc vid and saw ppl on tumblr/twitter/comments/etc asking if spn ever got that bad because it was 2012′s other big fish of bait. i definitely wouldn’t call it bad to a secret 4th ep extent but there was very much a subset of fans who were getting charlie brown with a football-ed every season. i know because i got charlie brown-ed twice before i dipped, and people continued writing a google doc of Here’s How Destiel Can Still Win for finales after i left 6 (?) seasons ago. for the most part the convo i see now is “haha just kidding.... unless?” and is very self aware of the fact that this is not the most structurally sound basket to put your eggs in, but i also purposefully steer very very clear of the people that do exist who are like. actually it is already canon you can have lgbt rep from straight writers without them ever directly addressing it or writing anything more explicit than jabs and charged scenes.

imo spn crew members are meaner than moftiss ever was. spn didn’t stop at ONE episode making fun of fans who care too much in the wrong way, it has several scattered throughout the seasons. becky the fan insert uses magic to brainwash sam, her favorite character, into marrying her. they are not and never were laughing WITH you, it’s always been AT you. and i think the fact that the disdain is so clearly on display coupled with the fact that the bait act has been going on much, much longer than with sherlock means more of the fans became disillusioned. it’s one thing to believe you’re going to go plane emoji at the end of 12 episodes when you have showrunners who keep telling you to dig, and it’s a very different one to believe in plane emoji after eight 22 ep seasons where the characters make fun of ship names and literally have the main character react uncomfortably to a pair of teenage lesbians cosplaying the pairing. christ! lmao. how cruel do you have to be to see a bunch of excited gay teenagers like your show and be what’s keeping you relevant and respond to that by saying i am going to put you in it, and the characters you love and found a narrative in hate you.

anyway. i’m never going to blame fans for being baited. obvs it gets annoying when they go so good faith they start being snippy about non believers, but for the most part they’re just young people who saw characters they resonated with. the people in charge of the show saw that resonation, and knew what it did to viewership and engagement levels, and started throwing more and more crumbs their way all while very clearly saying that fans who saw them saying i love you in between a bunch of side characters making jokes about them being together were stupid idiots for believing it and they’d NEVER dangled that carrot where did fans even get that idea?
