This is
a) an alliance against the bashing of female characters in anime
b) an example of why the correct and consistent usage of hyphens matters

Anyone know articles or videos or just have some ability to infodump in the reblogs about hyphens and the (seeming?) decline of hyphenated words in English?
Like there are some really obvious ones like "e-mail" becoming "email". Indeed most e-anything dropped the hyphen. That seems like it could just be society becoming more familiar with it, and using the word more often and dropping it to save a keystroke. But it seems to me that I am always having to tell my spellchecker to accept non-hyphenated versions of compound words, because the hyphenated version just does not look right. This post was spurred by the FF spellchecker claiming it should be "re-implemented" not "reimplemented". As a computer person, the hyphenated version looks absurd.
Of course spellchecker dictionaries aren't always the best, but on occasion if you look it up Merriam-Webster.com or whatever you will find the same sort of thing. Not for "reimplemented" of course you just get the base word "implement" but I have seen other cases where they give a hyphenated version not the unhyphenated.
And, if you look at like newspapers from like, the 30s or something, it seems like you see hyphens all over the place. Like sometimes they hyphenate "to-day" and I don't mean just for a line break. What's up with that?
This is good and all, and talks about familiarity, but is it just that that is driving it? And familiarity wouldn't seem to be the case for weird stuff like sometimes hyphenating "to-day". Especially since it seems like they didn't always do it.

Of course this faces every artist, every creative.
If you are to create to "make it" or to support yourself?
You either rely on fans and/or do everything yourself.
This is what capitalism has done to the Arts.
So. Create for creating. Don't kill yourself.

guys this is an en dash appreciation post
have u ever noticed theres like this medium-length dash. a bit smaller than the em dash and a bit bigger than the hyphen? thats an en dash.
^ EN DASH !!!!!!!
and what about the en dash? what does it do? i am glad you asked. (you most likely didnt but im telling anyway.) an en dash has just about one main use: to put between ranges of numbers, dates, and tallies! you'd see this little guy in phrases such as "9–5", "10–15", or even "1985–2000." but also it has a few more uses, such as adding clarity for complex compound words and stating ranges between other things that are not numbers, dates, or tallies, such as months! (but u can research the other uses very easily cuz i dont explain things well.)
see, ever since i learned of this dude's existence i realized something: it barely gets any attention, and instead, the hyphen hogs it all! the hyphen is an attention whore, don't be fooled by its tricks and don't think it's a regular dash. it is tricking you. do not be tricked.
anyway, the en dash is an interesting little fella, and i appreciate its dedication to being a small part of the english punctuation set that we barely ever recognize. so RECOGNIZE THE EN DASH NOW !!!!!!!!!! DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! USE IT, DEAR WRITER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some boomer got mad at me over the phone because I told her the motel's email adress has a dash in it, "yeah, I don't know what a dAsH is, because back in my day we called them HYPHENS. Ever heard of em?!?"
God help us, it's the end of the world, Gen Z has killed the "calling dashes hyphens" industry. How will she ever recover?
Does she have nothing else to pretend to be mad about? No kids to cut out of the will? No grandkids to misgender? No nurses to yell at because her family never visits her?

Dashes
Dashes - Do you know your hyphens from your en and em dashes? #writingcommunity #amwriting #writerslife #dashes #hyphen #emdash #endash
Do you know the difference between a ‘hyphen’, an ‘en dash’ and an ’em dash’? Many people have never heard of ‘en’ and ’em dashes’ but alas, they exist and using them can sometimes be a little bit complicated because some style guides differ on their use. Below, you’ll find a brief and basic definition of what each ‘dash’ is and why it is used. The Hyphen A ‘hyphen’ is a short, horizontal line…
