Ultimate Incest Tournament - Semifinals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut:
Sam/Dean:
I'm sorry but they have it all. children of metaphorical incest just continuing the cycle in any way they can. they are brothers and mother + son and wives and each other's scorned lovers and life partners they've had multiple infidelity arcs they are sexually psychopathic together they have forsook life and morality and the earth itself for each other and just love each other so much . They are literally in a heaven of their own making together for eternity, incestuously. Come on!!! Blueprint!!!!! It's not gay if he's your brother!!!!!
dean did stuff to sam's dead body in ahbl. i just know it
Messed-up, isolated sibs with all the daddy and abandonment issues. Their lives are so claustrophobic with the brothers no more than five feet apart in the car, a motel room, or standing next to civilians (face it, they are frigging magnets). Can't leave out that they are always touching each other to check for wounds which is a huge PLUS for any shipper.
Sam and Dean ARE literally the blowjob brothers. They walk into a situation and everyone goes well well well if it isn't the blowjob brothers....... And they say. Yep. That's us. And then they fix the situation with their epic love story
THE classic, iconic, show shopping, never done before etc. etc. incest ship. It changed fandom and it changed the world
Dave/Rose:
Daverose blondetwin sweep because they were codependent without ever meeting from growing up seeing each other in their dreams
What does it mean to be an abused teenage boy growing up alone and seeing a girl in your dreams every night who is also your best friend. and when you finally meet her you go on a suicide mission together even though nobody was asking you to die with her. and then you are the only two human beings left in the recognizable universe on a cold meteor surrounded by aliens but you’re glad it’s with her. and when you finally touch the girl from your childhood dreams she looks exactly like you. because she’s your sister
I don't have words for how good these snarky assholes are together. DaveRose is brain chemistry changing. They both put up so many fronts, and engage in so much snarky wordplay, and are constantly trying to get under each other's facade. They play off each other so well, witty and sharp, I need them to be together always
We all die & we all die alone are the two cold truths of the universe but dave and rose broke both simultaneously by ascending to godhood together
Their twincest wins because it is just so confusingly tragic? profound? dave leaving rose behind in a doomed world, dave following her to the bomb. they are both so closed & cut off & curt its hard to imagine the depth of these things. but that is their love language: giving up their lives for each other over and over, in a confusing and fumbling and heartfelt love song. i can’t say i love you but i know we’ll die together anyway. because we’re made of the exact same stuff. i’ll find you again at the last moment. that’s love.
THEY DIED TOGETHER, YOUR HONOR
Confirmed canon by the author, (something happened) between them. Parallels of dying by each other's sides in EVERY timeline. They are THE womb-to-tomb. There is nothing platonic about winking at your brother while talking about crushes, that shit is incestuous. Seer/Knight archetype. They will die protecting each other.
do you realize love someone if you don’t follow them on a suicide mission into the gaping maw of a literal fucking sun after they knock you out and psychoanalyze you in your dreams? the blueprint of the “ethereal androgynous blonde boygirl twins” trope. witch/knight dynamics. they find each other to die together in every timeline no matter what (but they’re still emotionally constipated teenagers who bicker and make fun of each other in pesterchum). kids with grown-up powers. perfect little freaks of nature. what if we looked exactly like each other’s eyes

Let me debunk a few more misinformation things about what Misha or Jensen say about Destiel. (Bolding some particularly relevant things I really want people to notice).
At Darklight Con Nov 8, 2020, Misha firmly said Cas's confession was about romantic feelings for Dean. (Notably, this is a European con, not CE in the US). Misinformation has sometimes been spread that Misha said Cas's confession wasn't romantic. Not true.
Misha then added that in his "interpretation" it was "unrequited" but continued on that "I'm speculating" and "I don't know what's in Dean's head. And Cas doesn't know." Misinformation has gotten around that Misha ever confirmed that Dean absolutely isn't in love with Cas back.
He then said the same things Jensen has said about supporting people's interpretations. They align on this viewpoint. (Antis don't want to listen, it's inconvenient for them).
He confirmed that Jensen was all in supporting Cas's confession scene. And that Jensen was told 3 months in advance. Since some have tried to claim it was sprung on Jensen at the last minute, a week before filming or something, and it was all an evol nefarious plot to lie to Jensen, trick him, and ambush him.
I mean, come tf on.
Jensen had three months to think about it.
And it's not only common practice on TV to have actors not know things too far in advance so their performances can be as spontaneous as possible, Jensen himself has said it's his own practice not to read ahead, so Dean's reactions can be as spontaneous as possible, and Jensen was in fact was given more than the usual amount of lead time about Cas's confession.
And was all in.
But especially interesting to me is how Jensen and Misha's comments mirror each other's take about the other's character.
Jensen and Misha have both told us they talked about Destiel.
Am I being clear enough here? They have talked about it. With each other. Often. They have an understanding among each other. (Yet antis seem to be in complete rampaging denial about this little fact).
And Jensen and Misha's takes often complement each other's, fit each other's on certain points, or even align via different styles and slightly different approaches and takes but actually boil down in essence to the same thing, plus both of them keep saying to fans...run with your interpretation.
It's like...both of them were trying to hand it to us, in any way they could manage, despite all those network shenanigans where it's not going to be acknowledge on any official SPN PR (like DVD set extras...and it seems like Misha kinda went, you know what if the network won't back press about this, I'll do it myself so he said things, here and there, to say what this was, dodging the CW sniper).
Misha's take: Cas has no idea what's in Dean's head and Cas doesn't know whether Dean is in love with him romantically the way Cas loves Dean or not. Jensen's take: in Dean's pov, because of Cas being an angel, assumption that his love is so cosmic and unfathomable no human can grasp it, so Dean has no clue as to the specific nature of those feelings for him. Mirroring!!!
(Side note...there's plenty of room here for an interpretation that Cas did know how loved he is at the moment The Empty took him. And I think that too...but that doesn't mean he knows Dean is romantically in love with him back, just that Dean loves him, period).
BTW, Jensen never said anything about how he played things wrt Dean's feelings for Cas, what he said was he never played Dean knowing Cas was in love with Dean (because Dean didn't know Cas was in love with him!!!!).
(And omfg I am so sick and tired of seeing Jensen misquoted about that, and it's never done with good faith motives, ever.)
It's about what Dean didn't know. It's about what Cas didn't know.
Which is the actual plot!! We watched!!! Dean and Cas not realizing the other one is in love with him is just so *chef's kiss* exactly miscommunication destihell. Was always part of the story, how many times did we talk about this ourselves?
Receipts below.

Strap in folks this is gonna be a long one.
So as we know Dean Deblois is the writer of HTTYD2 and 3. As a writer you have a list of rules you should follow. One such rule is “show don’t tell.”
Dean disregarded this rule and we mainly see it with Grimmel and the Night Fury genocide. In the movie he tells us “I hunted every last night fury except yours” yet Grimmel has nothing to show for it. No trophies, no night fury hide cloak, not even a claw. The most we get is a few “facts” about Night Furies that aren’t even true, or can’t be proven to be true because we’ve only ever seen one Night Fury.
“Night Furies can’t survive the cold.” Yet Hiccup tells us (in GOTNF which is canon) that winter in Berk lasts for most of the year.
“Night Furies can’t fly long distances” Yet Toothless’ wings are large and wide, which allows him to glide for long periods of time.
“Furies mate for life.” We would never know because we only see one Night Fury in the entire franchise. And if we take a look at other dragons, it seems they only see their mate during mating season.
And why would Grimmel know that if he’s trying to kill off the Night Furies forever? What’s the point in knowing their mating habits if there’s never going to be any Night Furies again? Did he just look at a Fury pair and go “yeup. They mate for life.”
Now another thing about Grimmel is that his hunting method is unreliable. One, he left his bait without any restraints. Imagine if the Light Fury woke up minutes before and just left? Boom! No more bait. What if Toothless wasn’t horny and was mad at the Light Fury for trying to kill Hiccup multiple times? Boom. He wouldn’t be trying to deal with her and the plan is ruined because the bait isn’t appealing to the target. What if Toothless didn’t smell her and never showed up?
Lots of plot conveniences. It happens in the entire movie. Dean also had to confirm that yes, Grimmel did kill all the Night Furies in an INTERVIEW because people didn’t believe that Grimmel genocide the Night Furies. And Dean only did this because he thinks Toothless is special because he’s the last Night Fury.
Now we could be here forever talking about how stupid grimmel is as a villain and how stupid it is to even entertain the thought that ONE man and his six, drugged dragons were able to commit genocide to a species of intelligent, elusive and fast dragons, but let’s just continue.
Another rule Dean disregarded is having good characterization. Or ANY characterization!
The Light Fury immediately comes to mind. Name one personality trait she has that we actually see in the movie. You can’t, can you? Because Dean actively wrote that out. There was a deleted scene of Light Fury and Toothless’ romantic flight which gave her much more personality, yet Dean wrote it out and gave us the boring one we have now.
Also, can we just talk about how she doesn’t have a name? Her name is literally “The Light Fury.” Which is the same as naming a Golden Retriever Golden Retriever.
I know Hiccup would’ve named her. Hell, anybody would’ve named her! But no, Dean decided that she didn’t need one because “how else would she be wild”?
Dean says this in an interview, “We intentionally try to keep her [The Light Fury] wild and elusive, to kind of represent something that is pure dragon, that hasn't been tainted by human beings by domestication.” Which just goes to show that Dean doesn’t know what domestication is.
(Dean also doesn’t know what a subspecies is because if he did, then he would know a Light Fury can’t possibly be a Night Fury subspecies because they have too many differences).
1. this means that Dean thinks all of the dragons that have benefited from human companionship (Toothless, Cloudjumper, Meatlug, Stormfly, etc) are tainted.
And 2, there is nothing “dragon” about the Light Fury. She has small feet (Hiccup’s head is literally bigger than her feet), small claws, a small mouth, her wings are weirdly shaped, she’s curved, she has no protective scales and her tailfin is in the shape of a heart, which would actually mess up her flight.
Many people have said this is because she’s semi-aquatic. But this is disproven by the fact that we’ve never seen her in the water and the art book.
Here’s two direct quotes: “We had to explore how the Light Fury would walk and make her feel like a female.” “We had to control all the shapes while keeping her both powerful and graceful so she didn’t fall too much into the reptilian category.”
The Light Fury is a plot device, a “agent of change” in Dean’s words.
Now while we’re on the topic of characterization, let’s talk about our main cast. We’ll start with Toothless.
Toothless is Hiccup’s best friend, who will do anything to protect him no matter the costs. He’s sassy, intelligent, curious, loyal, protective and playful.
Now take all of this, and throw it in the trash because this isn’t the toothless you’re going to see in THW. In THW Toothless’ playfulness is shot to the max, making him more like a slobbery puppy than the lethal panther he was in HTTYD1.
Toothless isn’t protective of Hiccup at all, his intelligence is below hell itself and we don’t see a lick of sass. Httyd3 Toothless is physically incapable of looking scary because his face has been deformed to to look blocky and smushed together. He lacks any aerodynamics and we can even see it in his flying. He looks like he’s struggling.
Toothless and Hiccup’s friendship is so watered down in this movie, just for the sake of romance. That’s not how it should be. Romance and friendship go hand in hand, one is not more valuable than the other.
Astrid is nothing but Hiccup’s emotional support, yet she also puts him down. “you gave him [Toothless] his freedom, what were you expecting?” This implies that the dragons are being held captive and Toothless doesn’t want to be with Hiccup.
Which he does, as we see in GOTNF. Toothless only left to get Hiccup’s helmet, then he broke the auto-tail. But why would Astrid even say that? Thats so insensitive 😭.
The twins are dumbed down (despite proving to actually being intelligent), Snotlout is flirting with a woman who’s 20 years older than him (and might be his aunt, depending if you see Hiccup and Snotlout as cousins) and Valka outright tells Hiccup that they can’t hide away from the world.
Which is true, they can’t. Because eventually they will be found. Now remember this, it’ll come back later.
Now, when writing a story it’s important to move the plot along in a way that doesn’t seemed forced. When I think of this, I think of Trollhunters: tales of Arcadia.
The protagonist (Jim) goes into the villain’s home in order to rescue his friend’s baby brother, yet he gets trapped there. His friends have to get him out of there, which allows the villain to be freed from the Darklands. This happening allows the story to move forward in a way that makes sense and isn’t forced.
Now back to HTTYD3. Let’s look at the scene where Toothless and the LF get captured. The Light Fury smells grimmel, she calls to toothless, runs towards Grimmel and gets shot.
Toothless runs over (ignoring Hiccup’s warnings) approaches Grimmel, takes forever loading a plasma blast while sloooowly walking towards Grimmel, allowing the man to shoot him and make him go night-night.
Hiccup runs over, also taking forever. And the next time we see grimmel he’s already tied up two dragons (BY HIMSELF) in these complicated straight jackets. The other dragons come around (finally) ready to attack, yet Grimmel threatens the light fury and tells Toothless to call of the dragons.
“But isn’t Toothless asleep?” I hear you ask, and to that I respond with “no, he’s not. He miraculously woke up in time to call the dragons off, despite the light fury still being knocked out cold.”
The dragons are called off and grimmel leaves on his quad-copter. The dragons follow them, even though Grimmel didn’t tell toothless to make them follow.
Do you see how forced this is? There’s many more forced plot points, but we’ll be here forever talking about it and this post is long enough already.
Next up on the broken rule list, Dean let the antagonist win. Now it’s okay for an antagonist to win, but never in the third act.
Grimmel’s ultimate goal was for dragons to disappear. Dean himself says “he does not want a world in which dragons roam free.” And what do we see at the end of HTTYD3?
The dragons disappearing into the Hidden World forever. Exactly what Grimmel wanted.
Finally, the last rule Dean broke is having a consistent plot. Now the plot of each movie is a bit different. Httyd1: Hiccup shows Vikings that while dangerous, dragons aren’t monsters. And it’s better to work together than working apart.
Httyd2: Dragons are being captured and enslaved, we need to save them and fight for our friends.
Httyd3: toothless needs to get a girlfriend. He HAS to, despite not ever showing to want one, but he’s horny right now so YES, he HAS to.
But the franchise has an overarching narrative about humans and dragons coming together. That no matter what, they will prevail because they’re working together.
Well in HTTYD3 yes, they prevail. But the dragons leave. Why, you may ask? Because no matter what they’ll always be bad humans so there’s no point fighting.
Hiccup sends the dragons to an underground glittery cave that doubles as a prison, and six years of friendship is thrown down the drain for a female Toothless met three days prior. Hiccup tells the audience that dragons will hide until humans learn how to get along (despite the many humans that already get along with them).
And that’s it. The end. No more.
“But wait!” I hear you ask, “Won’t the dragons eventually be found again?” And to that I say, “Oh, you remember!”
Because yes, the dragons will eventually be found out again. And because Hiccup gave up on fighting for change, these humans think dragons are dangerous monsters and will undoubtedly enslave/kill them.
We even see this with his own kids! Zephyr thought dragons were monsters and was ready to hurt them in order to “protect her family”. Humans of the future will no doubt act like this as well.
Humans and dragons will never learn to get along if they are never around each other. Change won’t just happen, you have to fight for it. Like the end of slavery, or the Women’s Rights Movement. Those things didn’t just happen, people had to fight for change and they had to keep fighting because if they gave up then nothing would change.
And when the dragons are inevitably found once again, it will be Hiccup’s fault when they’re either killed or enslaved.

Wished Away 8:
“Mom, Dad, help,” Dean said, holding a baby out.
A whirlwind of activity followed.
“He is Nephilim,” Castiel declared, having inspected the boy, “though I cannot tell his true parentage. It is being…hidden from me.”
The pediatricians took over as soon as the angel stepped back.
“Nephilim,” Danny said slowly, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, “isn’t that half-angel or something?”
“Precisely,” Castiel said just as slowly, measuring his words like they were his last rations, “They are…it is Forbidden for angels to lay with mortals. The creation of Nephilim is even more taboo as the first, the original, were monsters more often than not. It is an intentional act, to create Nephilim; the angelic parent must give a portion of their own Grace to the child during conception.”
“So they purposely knocked someone up then ding-dong ditched the kid,” Dean growled.
“Perhaps they heard that we are romantically involved, Dean,” Castiel offered, “and hoped we would take in the child as our own.”
“Well, of course we are,” Dean huffed, rolling his eyes at his angel who shook his head fondly, “I’ve already picked out a name too. A good human name.”
“Oh?”
“Jack, after Grandpa Jack. Unless, you have a name?”
“Perhaps…James, after James Novak?”
“Hmm…Jack James…James Jack…JJ…no, definitely Jack James. I like it, Cas.”
“Well, little Jack is healthy as far as we can tell,” Doctor Peterson joined the little huddle, “every scan we can perform came up normal, perfectly within range for his age group.”
Both Dean and Castiel visibly relaxed.
“We’ll get you set up,” Sam promised her son and might-as-well-be son-in-law.
A servant brought David’s old wrap and Sam showed Dean and Castiel how to wind it around their bodies to carry little Jack close to their hearts.
“Does the heart even beat?” Danny asked Castiel with interest, referring to his Vessel.
“Yes, I have kept all systems functioning as intended,” Castiel confirmed.
“Good. Because babies this young are used to heartbeats,” Danny explained as Sam worked with Dean, “they just spent nine months with their mom’s in their ears.”
“I see,” Castiel nodded, “well, Dean has assured me that I have a perfectly human sounding heartbeat.”
“What’s the likelihood that his mom was the human?” Danny asked next.
“Oh, quite likely…angels with female vessels most often shutdown the reproductive system. It would also be quite hard to hide the evidence of the gestating Nephilim. His mother likely died in childbirth; her body finally unable to handle his Angelic self.”
Danny winced; that would be a horrid way to die and he fried like a French fry.
Within hours, little Jack was all ready to go home.
Over the next few days, a room in the Bunker became a nursery and supplies loaded in.

Do y'all even know how much I rotate post-canon Midam in my mind? Like, every day my brain is speed-running a fix-it where Michael is brought back.
And it can go so many ways.
Michael getting brought back, immediately rushing to Adam, and Adam accepting him back with only love and relief in his heart? Absolutely believable.
Michael being brought back, dragging his feet about going to Adam even though he desperately wants to see him, but also he pretty much betrayed his brothers and sided with God, and when he does finally go see him, Adam hits him with the whole 'How could you, I thought we were friends!' and takes a really long time to be convinced that Michael still likes him and wants to be with him? ALSO absolutely believable.
There's so much in between that, and there are of course several factors influencing which would be more likely - like how much time passes until Michael is brought back, whether Adam has been spending time Sam and Dean or not, and how much they told him, if anything. But at the end of the day, there is I think one big question that decides where it comes out to. And we simply don't see enough of those two on screen to be able to answer that question with any clarity.
The question is, how much of their feelings have these two shared?
And I don't necessarily mean this in a romantic way. I'm all for big dramatic 'I love you's and all that, but this would work just as well with a queer-platonic, or purely platonic, relationship between the two. In fact, I think even if they had exchanged 'I love you's before rapture, that still wouldn't answer this question.
The thing is, how much do they know about the depth of each other's feelings? Do they both know just how much the other wants to be with them? Does Adam know that Michael would burn the world if he asked? Does Michael know that Adam doesn't need him to kill for him, he needs him to LIVE for him? Does Adam know that the reason Michael didn't go back to Heaven is at least 90% him? Does Michael know that Adam isn't just keeping him around because it's convenient, but because he genuinely enjoys hanging out with him?
There is a lot of interpretation here on my part, but yeah, I think whatever configuration you put these two in (romantic/queer-platonic/whatever else), these two are just absolutely unhinged about each other. As in they cannot imagine a life without each other anymore. Adam just spent at least a thousand years with Michael alone. That's the equivalent of several human lifetimes! And for Michael, it's of course considerably less, but do you really think he has been this close with, this focused on anyone since Lucifer fell? Since his family broke apart, and he became a general above anything else? Do you think he isn't absolutely thrilled to have Adam, a guy who doesn't always agree with him but likes him anyway, a guy he is literally chilling in the same body with, as close as two people can conceivably be? You think he's not insane about that guy?
Anyway, this got off track, but I truly do believe that how the fix-it goes depends on whether they know this about each other. How secure they are about each other's feelings. Because I think if Adam knows how Michael feels about him, he's more likely to think along the lines of 'Michael was manipulated by his abusive dad and went back to him, man I wish I could have been there and helped him untangle his emotions, he must have been at rock bottom :(' and less likely something like 'Michael went back to his dad as soon as I was gone, guess he never cared about me at all'.
And I guess in the end it does come down to Adam, because while I can see Michael being insecure and not knowing if Adam will take him back, he would also jump immediately if Adam called for him in a prayer or anything like that. Meanwhile, if Adam is angry, I think Michael would withdraw pretty quickly, which Adam would take as confirmation that Michael never really cared much...
So, yeah. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it can go many ways, and to me it depends heavily on whether they (especially Adam, but also Michael) know how much the other cares for them.

Fragile and Composed
Fragile and Composed by cgf_kat Rating: Teen Word Count: 16k
“What did Rowena say?” he asks. “You called her, right? This isn’t like one of those attack dog spells of hers, is it?” That’s the last time Dean can remember seeing Cas actually sweat like this. Usually, he’s immune to such human inconveniences, but as of right now his dark hair is plastered to his forehead, moisture prickling his skin. It’s disconcerting. Wrong. “No, no not like that,” Cas rasps. He lets his head tip back, compliant as Dean gently thumbs at the skin around his eyes to pull them open farther, to get a better look at them. To confirm they’re not bloodshot and bleeding like they were then. “It’s—there are no other effects...not...nothing’s in my head. It’s just...very painful.”
*drops this piece of 16k words of pure, unadulterated hurt/comfort right in front of your feet*
Don’t you ever dare say I didn’t give you anything 😁
So if you’re really in the mood for all the pain and worry and protectiveness that this special trope has to offer, then please don’t hesitate to click on the link and enjoy all the misery!
In this particular story Castiel is suffering from the effects of a nasty spell, being crippled by sudden bursts of pain, and Dean is just desperate to help him in any way he can and make his suffering a little less bad. Which include lots of touching, moving into Dean’s room together, sharing a bed and Dean mother henning the whole time, not only concerned about his angel but also Jack who blames himself for the whole mess in the first place.
Yes, they’re all not having a good time right now, but I promise there is a happy end in sight!
So if this is right up your alley, dive right in 💗

Come hell or high water. | Dean Winchester x Reader
Summary: Looming over the Winchesters and [Y/N] is the war between heaven and hell. Dean will ultimately be faced with a choice he’d never be able to make. What will happen?
This will be a multi-part story, not necessarily set in a specific season but around 4-5 would be the best fit.
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader
Mentions: Sam Winchester, Lucifer, John Winchester
Warnings: Lots of angst, sadness, etc, supernatural level violence mentioned, injuries
Here’s Part III if you haven’t read.
Flashbacks are in bold.
Tumblr media
Part IV:
“I’m here to inform you, Dean Winchester, that you’ve got an incredible choice on your hands. One that will alter everything you stand for and everything you believe in—a choice that will tear you apart inside until you’re asking to be Michael’s meat suit.” [Y/N]’s stomach dropped hearing this, because that meant it was something bigger than even her intuition could’ve imagined. “Yeah? What’s this ‘important choice’ then huh?” Dean asked, Sam watching from the other side. He had just as bad a feeling about this as [Y/N] did—neither had any chance to speak up though, Lucifer answering immediately. “It’s simple really. You, oh you’ve got the choice of who gets a one way ticket to pain and suffering. Dean Winchester, it’s your decision who gets sent to hell here today. Little Sammy-boy..” he paused, gesturing towards the younger of the Winchester brothers. “or..” Dean’s heart was racing, knowing exactly what was coming but dreading having to hear it said aloud. “..your beautiful, so very beautiful, girlfriend [Y/N].”
It had been several minutes since Lucifer dropped the biggest bombshell imaginable on the three hunters. Dean’s ears were ringing, the only other sound in them was the rapid beating of his heart. Silence had befallen the room and to the devil? This was hilarious. It made it better that despite any worries, truly none of them could’ve seen it coming. Eventually the silence became too much and he couldn’t contain the humor he found in one of the worst situations Dean had ever been put into—bursting out laughing to break the silence. [Y/N]’s heart felt like it was beating once per minute, much like she was dying a slow and agonizing death, when it fact it was racing so fast it would alarm anyone. Sam’s eyes held a mixture between anger and pain, knowing that even asking this question was damning enough.. but all three knew that Lucifer meant it. No, this wasn’t a sick theoretical scenario to throw off the hunters. It wasn’t a bluff, this was a very real situation that none of them could’ve expected. It wasn’t something that even crossed their minds to happen today, or ever if honesty was in question. “Oh c’mon, why the long faces?! I mean, at least one of you will always be nice and toasty warm!” Lucifer was having a blast, finding even more humor in the reactions of the humans standing before him. Sam was the first to react, the anger taking the forefront. “What even is the endgame here Lucifer? Why would this need to happen?” He asked, eyes glancing towards his older brother and his sister-in-law by principle. He felt his heart breaking for all of them, himself included. Again this had Lucifer tilting his head back in laughter.
“I already told you, Sammy-boy. You two are far too resistant to your true purpose. A lot of your brother’s resistance is found in that beautiful [Y/H/C] haired girl standing next to him, so, I offered the choice to cut one of those lifelines because I am insanely generous.” Dean instinctively moved to stand in front of her when she was referenced by the fallen angel, not wanting Lucifer to even glance at [Y/N]. She grabbed the back of Dean’s suit jacket to steady herself and also as a way to confirm this wasn’t a nightmare. Which, unfortunately, wasn’t happening because when she grabbed the fabric nothing around her shifted. Squeezing her eyelids closed trying to hold the emotion inside, she didn’t need Lucifer seeing any kind of breakage. “I’ll go.” Dean said, almost quietly. Sam and [Y/N] opened their eyes widely at this and a silence hung in the air again for a moment. “Mmm.. no. See we’ve already had you Deany, and since your little angel on speed dial busted you free.. we don’t want you. You also can’t say yes to my idiot of a brother if you’re in the cage.” Lucifer explained. “And I can?” Sam instantly fired back, venom dripping from his words. “I mean.. you could because I would be oh-so close. Torturing you until your mind broke and you finally gave into the truth—you need to say yes and so does Dean.” Now the devil was getting irritated, eyes dancing along the three hunters in front of him. “I’m not doing this shit, this is bullshit.” Dean said, getting a little louder probably due to the irritation levels rising within him. “Oh but you have to, see this isn’t just a theoretic questionnaire. If you don’t choose, I will.” Lucifer replied, staring directly into the eldest Winchester’s eyes.
Silence again fell over the room, tension and emotion threatening to spill at any second. “Tick Tock, Winchester. I don’t have all day.” It was clear despite any form of annoyance that Lucifer was loving this entire situation. [Y/N] grips his jacket still, so tightly that her knuckles are turning white. Every bit of her is willing this to be someone kind of dream. Whether she’s asleep, whether they’ve been captured, she just needs this to be anything but reality. “You can’t just sling these kinds of things around Lucifer.” Sam thought aloud, which drew a dry laugh from the fallen angel’s lips. “I can’t? Who exactly is gonna stop me? You three?” He replied, wearing a shit-eating grin because all three hunters knew that they couldn’t stop this. No one could. It was the biggest abuse of power in a world where god couldn’t care less about what happened. “You really want to go to war with your brother that badly?” Sam pushed, taking a step towards the devil himself. “Why? What is that war gonna change? Even if you win, you really think the rest of the angels are gonna let you walk out freely?” Sam continued, emotion in every piece of his tone. Almost pleading to the humanity in Lucifer that he knew probably didn’t exist but he needed to try something. Dean couldn’t do this, it would tear him apart from the inside just like Lucifer wanted it to do.
“It’s the fate of the world and it’s the fate of the both of you—you think bargaining with the fucking devil is gonna change anything? You think that’s gonna work? Whether the three of you like it or not, this is exactly how the world works. There’s no fighting against the machine. There’s no changing fate—there’s simply delaying it and the more you delay it the more it’s gonna hurt when you lose everything and everyone that you’ve ever loved.” Lucifer had taken a step closer to Sam and they were practically face-to-face. “We don’t believe that! You can’t deny we’ve changed outcomes already, you think we’re gonna just stop there and submit to you?! Submit to this bullshit fate that you stand here preaching?!” Sam’s emotional side was spilling over into the angry side and he felt the tears welling up in his eyes. Lucifer had anger dancing in his own, staring a hole into Sam’s face when all of a sudden.. breaking the tension he.. laughed? “I see what you’re doing Sammy-boy, ah, you almost got me.” He laughed harder and shook his head. “No more distractions, no more dragging it out.” Lucifer now shifted his attention back onto Dean. “Now, back to the task at hand. Spotlight is on you Deany! Make your selection.” He teased, the enjoyment now finding its way back to the fallen angel’s facial features.
There was that uncomfortable silence again, settling over the musty room. Dean’s heart hadn’t stopped its heavy beating since Lucifer’s plan had been revealed to them. Now his palms felt a little sweaty, knowing that this was something that likely was happening. None of them seemed to have any kind of plan to weasel outta this one—which only meant one thing: someone was going to hell alongside Lucifer. Dean swallowed harshly, slowly looking between his brother and the love of his life. How was he supposed to make a decision between the two people who meant the most to him? Choose one of the two people that kept him going to face the torture, pain and suffering that he’d endured not too long ago? Said pain and suffering that he hadn’t even fully processed yet. Subtly his gaze moved between Sam and [Y/N], sighing as his brain was trying to compute having to make such a choice. He knew that’s why Lucifer had chosen this, because there was no way this kind of decision would be anything other than cataclysmic to his psyche. [Y/N] turned towards her boyfriend and saw the pain in his eyes—that one glance into his green hues and she was feeling every bit of agony that was swimming between his ears.
No matter the wits that the trio shared, it didn’t appear that they’d find a way out of this sick game Lucifer was playing. All of them were stressed and frustrated to levels that they’d likely never been before now. Maybe ones they’d never reach again. “I’m waaaaaaaaaaaaaiting.” Lucifer sang out to them. All three glared towards the fallen angel but that only made him chuckle more. “Ooooh so scary! Whatever will the Devil do?!” He spoke, tone mocking them and their situation. “Dude, shut up.” Sam spoke, exhausted. [Y/N]’s eyes had moved back to her boyfriend rather quickly after leaving Lucifer and they’d stayed there. Minutes had passed by and once again the dark, musty room had fallen into silence. Of course she couldn’t read minds but it wasn’t difficult for her to tell just how much pain this thought process was causing Dean. She knew he couldn’t make this call, he couldn’t choose between her and Sam. Nor should he have to choose. So, sighing, she knew exactly what she had to do. It wasn’t going to be easy, it was going to quite literally take everything she had.. but for Dean she would give it all twenty times over.
“I’ll go.” Her voice was quiet but the words echoed in Dean’s mind like they’d been blasted through surround sound. “What?” Sam asked, pain in his voice as he turned toward [Y/N]. Dean’s heart was beating even louder and he didn’t think that was possible. “Baby..” he finally spoke, his voice barely audible. Dean wasn’t even sure if he said it out loud until she met his gaze with an utterly broken look reflecting within her eyes. [Y/N] took the steps necessary to close all space between she and Dean, tears spilling from her eyes. Cupping his face within her hands and just staring deeply into the beauty of his green eyes that she always loved so much. [Y/N] wished that she could take all of his pain away in this moment, but she knew she couldn’t. No matter what went down today things would be altered for Dean for the rest of his life. “You can’t..” He spoke, hands clutching her blazer so hard that his knuckles were turning white. Now tears had begun slipping from his own eyes as he gazed at the woman he loved. [Y/N] wished there was something she could say to fix this, her heart being ripped from her chest would feel less painful than seeing this look in Dean’s eyes.
“Dean.. I’m not gonna let you make a choice between me and your brother. You’ve spent your entire life protecting Sam, you raised Sam, I know you wouldn’t send him to hell and I’m not mad at that. It’s one of the reasons I fell so hard for you.” She spoke, brushing her thumbs underneath of Dean’s eyes to wipe the tears away. “I love you, more than I have ever loved anyone on this earth. I know this isn’t what we wanted..” She sighed, trying to shake how utterly broken she was away from her voice. “I don’t want you to go..” Dean cried out, somehow gripping the fabric of [Y/N]’s top harder than he was before. “I know, my love.. I know. I don’t wanna go either but there’s no other way out of this.” She cooed, tears streaming down her face. “Please don’t forget me. Think of me and how much I love you every day. I’ll always be in your heart, okay? They can never take that away from you. I know this is gonna hurt baby, but you’ve gotta keep pushing for me too. Hey..” she cried, leaning her forehead directly against her boyfriend’s. “I believe in you, I have always believed in you. I will never stop believing in you, Dean Winchester.” She sobbed, the eldest Winchester’s hands finally releasing their grip upon the fabric of her blazer and coming upward to cup her face now. “Promise me you won’t give up. Promise me you and Sam will keep fighting this, keep saying no to this bullshit.”
“I promise.” He sobbed, keeping his eyes on her and not moving them for a second. [Y/N] immediately crashed her lips into his, the rest of the world melting away. Nothing surrounding them but empty space and their love. Each of them clinging to the closeness they shared, hands on their lover’s face and keeping them for the longest time they could. “Alright, let’s go. I’m bored.” Lucifer spoke up with annoyance in his tone and that broke the magic of their kiss. Heaviness was surrounding the group now, Sam approaching the two of them. “Love you, Sammy. Please take care of him.” [Y/N] sobbed out, reaching one hand towards her brother-in-law’s face. “I promise I will, [Y/N/N.] Love you too.” Sadness was seeping through the younger Winchester’s voice too. Tears slowly running down his cheeks. “I said hurry up.” Lucifer ordered to which she snapped. “You’re dragging me to hell for no good fucking reason, I’m going willingly so shut the fuck up and let me say goodbye.” Dean sobbed and hearing that word. Sam backed up again, letting his brother and [Y/N] have their final moment. “I love you, Dean Winchester.” She spoke, looking directly into his pained emerald eyes. “I love you more, [Y/N] [L/N].” He cried out, knowing this was the end. Slowly they let each other go. She turned towards Lucifer with a scowl and took one step, but immediately turned back to Dean. Quickly her hand flicked to the back of her neck and she unclasped the necklace that Dean had given her for their three year anniversary. Inside the locket attached to the chain were two photographs. One was the first photo they’d ever taken together, which was inside when he’d gifted it to her—the second was one they added not too long ago. It was after Dean had come back from hell and they’d begun cherishing every moment more than they already had. No one could’ve predicted that such a short time later, they’d be here. That they’d have to be saying another forced goodbye. Slowly [Y/N] slipped it into his hand and closed it into a fist so he wouldn’t drop it.
Sam had taken a couple steps to his brother and placed his own hand on his shoulder, squeezing in an attempt to ground him. He wasn’t sure that would even help, but he needed to try and do something. He needed to make sure that Dean knew he was there for him, which of course he would, but in the moment things were going to get ugly. Emotions would fly and Sam needed Dean to know that he wasn’t alone. Lucifer grabbed [Y/N] by the wrist and within the blink of an eye they were both gone. Dean clutched that locket tight and fell to his knees, screaming and crying out the most heart wrenching noises that Sam had ever heard. It was very similar to when Sam had died in his arms, but of course, the younger Winchester didn’t witness that.. [Y/N] did. Slowly, Sam lowered himself to the ground and got on his knees too, pulling Dean into a hug while all the elder of the two could do was sob violently. They stayed there for what felt like years, until Dean couldn’t physically sob anymore. Now? He was just silent. Sam had managed to drag his brother out of the building, they walked a little ways and finally Castiel could get to them. Naturally the angel was confused when there was only two, Sam having to explain what had happened. Cas just looked at Dean with sadness, but Dean’s gaze hadn’t left the ground. After figuring out where they’d been, Cas zapped the brothers and the impala back to the motel.
Sam had entered the room first, just wanting to lay down but his heart sunk again. There, just where they’d been left, sitting all across the room were [Y/N]’s things. Dean, who’d been quiet the whole time, began sobbing again seeing the remnants of their life before Lucifer had torn it apart. He didn’t care about what he was wearing or how long he’d been in it, he just crawled into the bed and grabbed his favorite flannel—well his second favorite. [Y/N] had stolen this one and wore it all the time so he needed to find a new favorite but god, it smelled just like her and he needed it right now. Laying down and putting it between his arms, he began silently crying and thinking about the day he met her.
“Hi, I’m Detective Bonham. Can I ask you a couple questions?” He’d approached the victims daughter. “Son that’s not necessary.” John spoke, which caused the young woman to turn around. “John?” She asked, clearly distraught since it was her father that had been the victim of murder. “Hey kiddo. I’m sorry about your dad.” He replied, approaching the young lady and giving her a gentle hug. “Thanks..” her voice was soft and emotional. John pulled away and Dean’s heart stopped then and there. His eyes finally saw the young woman and she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. “This is your son?” She asked, he nodded and blinked a couple of times before snapping out of it. “Oh, yeah, hi.. I’m Dean.” He smiled, which made her smile too. Dean had extended his hand toward her and she took it, shaking it firmly enough. “I’m [Y/N].” John coughed, which worked to snap his son out of the daze he’d clearly been in since laying eyes on the woman. “I met her dad on a hunt years back. We weren’t overly close, most people in this life aren’t. However, whenever I’d have to come out to Arizona.. [Y/F/N] would help me out. I was always thankful, so when I heard what happened..” John trailed off, not needing to rehash the details. Dean’s face fell. “I’m sorry about your dad.” He’d said, gazing into her eyes with a softness reflecting in his own. “I appreciate it.” She replied and while she was obviously sad, there was a softness in her eyes too. John himself could tell that they’d felt their hearts sing that day, smiling just a little at how they were lost in each other.
Dean had known from the day he laid eyes on [Y/N] that he was in love. Sure, he’d fought it for a little while, mostly because he didn’t think he was worthy of anyone’s love and partly because he was young, dumb and needed to explore—least that was what he told himself. However that all changed when they’d been working a case without his dad and it had gone wrong.
“[Y/N]!! [Y/N] where are you?!” Dean yelled. He’d just successfully salted and burned the bones of a ghost that was killing people with family secrets, but not before it had launched [Y/N] against the wall. However she wasn’t where she’d hit, or where he thought she’d hit the wall, so he was frantically trying to find her. “[Y/N] I’m serious where the hell are you?!” He called after her, worried that it was the worst case scenario. “D-Dean.. I’m here.” She croaked out, holding her ribcage. Dean would’ve felt relief if he hadn’t noticed blood on her hand. “What happened?!” He asked, rushing to her side and kneeling in the grass. Dean gently pulled her hand away from her side so he could get a better look, immediately noticing the gash in her side that was bleeding. “Must’ve hit a part of the wall with some shit sticking out or something.” She replied, Dean ripping one of his extra shirts and quickly tying it around [Y/N]’s ribs. Without saying anything else, he picked her up bridal style and began walking towards the impala. “I’ve got you, babe.” He froze internally for a moment when he realized what he said, but instead of reacting negatively, she managed a smile. “I know you do.” [Y/N] replied.
Dean had stayed with her the entire time she was at the hospital, which had been a couple of days. After that? They were inseparable. At first there was no official label but soon enough, after that fight about him flirting with people for information, they’d been as official as official gets. Now he was alone in the romantic sense and it was already killing him. Sam just watched over his older brother, sadness written in every bit of his facial expression. He wanted to say something, anything to help his brother but he knew there was nothing that he could say. Right now, Dean needed to wallow and feel all of his sadness. It was something that broke Sam’s heart, both because of his personal relationship with [Y/N] and obviously for his brother. Mourning the person he loved more than anything in the world, he never expected he’d have to leave her side again.. or vice versa. When Dean was ready? They’d start looking for a way to bring [Y/N] back.

Tumblr media
It was known that evil could never have a happy ending.
At least, that is what has been taught for centuries and centuries, from generation to generation. It was unheard of to think that some villain, from any story, would return to a nice cabin with his family, after trying to poison a princess.
Any 'Ever' student could have that same thought about anyone belonging to the 'Never' school, incapable of love. And if the name of the dean of evil slipped into the conversation, the answer was an obvious and resounding NO.
While any human being with two eyes and a few centimeters of a brain could confirm that Lady Lesso is an extremely beautiful woman, they could also classify her as someone 'terrifying'; considering anyone brave who could spend more than five minutes with her, without being scared.
———————————————————————————
The weekend was slowly approaching, which made the redheaded woman extremely excited. She was already sick of her incompetent students, of Dovey's constant complaining, of the thousands upon thousands of papers waiting in her office to be reviewed, causing excruciating headaches.
Everything about to end…
Until Emma reached her office, opening the door a little and sticking her head out.
"Leonora?"
"What do you want?" the woman asked without taking her eyes off the exam in front of her. Anastasia, an incompetent who would fail her class for the second time.
“Clarissa requested your presence at the meeting”
The dean's eyes rolled wearily, making her disappointment known.
"Really? Why do you need my presence with… 30 minutes to go before the end of school hours?"
"I don't know, she didn't give me an explanation…"
Before Emma could begin to ramble, Lesso abruptly stood up from her chair and began to pace, hitting the ground next to Emma with her cane, causing the smaller woman to jump.
Quickly, Leonora walked to the room where the meeting was taking place, opening the doors violently, making her arrival known.
"Oh, Lesso," Dovey interrupted, "it's good that you're here."
Leonora didn't even deign to answer, she simply sat in her usual chair and with the help of her magic, materialized a notebook, to scribble and avoid getting bored.
It took her a few minutes to realize that she had brought into the meeting room the notebook she used for her most private matters. Full of vibrant colors and children's drawings.
With a quick movement, and with the eyes of some of her colleagues glued to the notebook, Leonora opened it, hiding the cover and beginning to draw, not listening to Dovey's chatter.
The meeting lasted forever, almost 3 hours after their usual time to leave; but when Dovey finally called the meeting to a close, Leonora was among the first to rise from her seat, until Dovey's voice reached her ears.
"Actually, Lesso, I need to talk to you."
With a great grunt, Leonora watched as her companions left the room, to be left alone with Dovey.
"What do you want?" asked Leonora tiredly
"Relax, I don't want to entertain you" Dovey turned her back on the redhead to take a small basket full of sweets and baked goods "I remembered that last week was Y/N's birthday, so I thought I'd give she her favorite desserts"
The basket reached Leonora's hands, who awkwardly gave a grimace, which she tried to pass off as a smile.
"Thanks suppose. I'll give it to her"
"All right. So… see you on Monday”
"See you on Monday" and just as the redhead walked back to the exit, Dovey's voice interrupted her again.
"By the way, tell Rose she did a good job." The brunette pointed at Leonora's notebook with her eyes, drawing a grunt from the redhead.
"Whatever"
———————————————————————————
When Leonora had finally reached her house, she was surprised to find all the lights on; Normally, when she arrived at this time, the only light that was on was the one in the living room, where Y/N was reading a book.
Wearily she opened the door and stepped inside, letting the homey warmth and the smell of the oven reach her face.
The redhead didn't even have to make her arrival home known, to hear those little footsteps on the wood.
"Mom!"
Little Rose ran down the stairs, laughing, until she reached the open arms of the redhead, who quickly picked her up, thanking everyone for how small the girl was.
"Hello little monster"
From the back of the kitchen, the Dean's green eyes collided with Y/N's, causing the latter to show a beautiful smile, seeing the two girls together.
"You're late" Y/N joked
"Go to your room, beast, mommy and I have to talk"
The little girl quickly climbed back up, making the redheaded woman walk until her back was to her wife and hugging her hips.
“Blame it on Dovey” Y/N laughed as she took the food out of the oven “I'm serious Y/N, if I hear another 'Ever' complain again, I'm going to have to cut my ears off.”
“Relax, the good thing is that you are home now, and dinner is ready. Go call Rose, and set the table."
———————————————————————————
Dinner was one of Leonora's favorite moments. The feeling of warmth, the delicious food, Y/N's voice along with Rose's giggles and games made her cold heart feel what the warmth of a true home is.
“Today I saw my friend Erick”
Until that wretch's name left Rose's little lips.
The story was very long and very exhausting to tell, but to summarize. Y/N had graduated as a great 'Ever', giving her first kiss to a handsome and gallant prince named Erick. As a good 'Ever', it only took her a few months to commit to the man. But when the man found out that a baby was on the way, he didn't hesitate for a second to abandon the woman with the baby.
Leonora met her almost two years later, while she was on an emergency trip through a town near the school.
She doesn't even remember what made her fall: Y/N's shy look or little baby Rose's babbling.
How had the jerk come to contact his women? Leonora had no idea, but she tried not to get into the subject. She just enjoyed the little girl.
"Really? And did you have a good time?" asked the redhead, seeing how everyone finished dinner, so she got up and took the dishes to wash them.
"Yes. But… I missed you, mom. I like hanging out with him, but I miss when you and I go out to play."
Yes, Leonora could confirm that Rose was one of the few people who could make her believe that she still has a heart.
"Oh honey" Y/N interrupted her by kissing the girl's head "the good thing is that mom is going on vacation, and they can go out to the field every day, to play"
"Don't forget Lily" commented the redhead causing both women to laugh
"Sure, let's not forget Lily"
The baby's cry began to sound, warning that he had woken up.
“Talking about the queen of Rome”
"Come Rose, let's go for her"
———————————————————————————
"Are you ready to sleep?" Leonora asked as she tucked in the little girl, who was already beginning to yawn and rub her eyes.
"Yep"
"You stayed up very late today, little naughty" the redhead stroked her hair, trying to make her fall asleep even faster.
"I told mommy I wanted to wait for you"
"I know baby, thanks for waiting for me" the older woman planted a kiss on the girl's forehead.
"I love you so much mom"
"I love you too"
"Tell Lily and Mommy I love them too."
"They love you too, monster"
The girl quickly fell asleep, for which Leonora got up leaving the room, closing the door, to enter her own room, finding her wife and the little baby playing on the bed.
"You don't seem like she want to fall asleep anytime soon, do you?"
"She just wanted to see her mom"
Small emerald eyes met those of the taller woman, eliciting little squeals from the baby.
"Hello, little fairy"
Admitting that little Lily had come into this world thanks to Dovey's kindness and care (and magic), it was very difficult for the redhead to show her gratitude, so she decided that calling the baby 'fairy' was more than enough.
Out of the corner of her eye, the redhead could see how her wife was beginning to yawn, already very tired, and apparently, baby Lily had enough energy to keep her awake for a few more hours.
"My love, go to sleep, I'll take care of Lily" the woman murmured as she snatched the girl from her arms.
"No, I can…"
Leonora interrupted her wife's protests by planting a kiss on her lips and on her nose.
"Honey, you've already done a lot here, let me take care of my girls."
The woman soon fell asleep, so it was Leonora's job to play with the little girl to tire her out.
"Hey, beast, you have to shut your mouth, you're going to wake up mommy and your little sister"
The girl ignored it and tried again to stick her finger in her mother's nose, while she burst out laughing.
As much as she wanted to deny it, her heart vibrated every time she heard her youngest daughter's little laughs, as well as her oldest daughter's voice, and without a doubt, Y/N's kisses only put the garland on the cake.
Some time later, the baby was finally able to fall asleep, so the redhead quickly tucked the girl into her little crib and lay down on her own bed, but in the process, she woke up Y/N.
"Hmm, are the girls asleep yet?"
"Yes, sorry for waking you up"
"Don't worry, let's go to sleep"
A silence settled in the room, but still, Y/N could tell that her wife wasn't asleep.
"Leo, what's up?"
"Do you think… that they hate me?"
"What?"
"Girls, do you think they'll hate me when they find out I'm the dean of evil?"
Y/N got up so he could look at her wife's glassy eyes.
“My love, of course they won't hate you, you're their mother” Y/N began to caress Leonora's face, to keep her eyes from leaving her “You're their favorite person in the world, they love you. We love you, we know that you are not a bad woman. Even if you don't believe it yourself, we know you have a heart; that you feel, that you deserve affection, love. Nobody is completely good or bad, you are not black, nor am I white, we are both gray scales, and they will be able to see that "
The redhead gave her wife a smile and a kiss on the chin
"You know, I'm starting to think that I married you because you always know what to say."
Y/N started laughing as she planted kisses all over her wife's face.
"Admit it, you married me because you love me"
Both women lay back down, ready to go to sleep. Leonora embracing her wife's body from behind, planting kisses on the woman's bare shoulders.
"I love them, so much" confessed the redhead already half asleep
“Your family loves you twice as much”
Because it was known that evil could never have a happy ending.
But, no one is completely good, nor completely bad, and despite that, we all deserve a little love.
Leonora deserves a little love.

Thoughts about Ada. Is it coherent, I don’t know? You tell me. (PART 1)
Tumblr media
I’d like to start this off by saying I’m not in my right mind right now, it’s sort of like— literally 5am in the morning as I write this and I have not slept a wink, but this is the sort of thing I’ll sacrifice for my latest obsession! Haha, okay but anyways. This is just a little character post, sharing my thoughts about a certain one, and in no way do I consider it to be up to par with any of the other existing analyses within the Nevermore fandom. I don’t do this often, so forgive me.
Ada, to me, is an amazing antagonist. I believe she’s incredibly well written, so much that she (almost) seems human. At first you think she’s annoying, which you’re meant to, but then somewhere down the line you start feeling something similar to remorse. Guilt. And then you immediately become annoyed again. I know exactly how Morella feels.
First off, we can talk about her background. What Edgar Allan Poe work is Ada based on? That’s right, Tamerlane! And what exactly is Tamerlane about? To put it short, it’s a poem about an important man who falls in love with a peasant girl who’s conveniently named Ada, who he takes for granted. We can already infer so much from this, and it’s reinforced by the Mystery Manor arc which does hint at it before it’s basically confirmed. I mean, how else would she know that the servant’s staircase were the quickest way to get round the mansion, if not from experience? And the way she responded to Lenore when she’d asked what a peephole portrait could be good for: “Uhh, privacy, obviously?” followed by, “These old manors have all sorts of secrets like this!”. (Taken from episodes 56 and 57). This isn’t something people with status would care to know about or remember.
When it’s shown outright in episode 69 through a memory triggered by Prospero’s rejection, we see Ada in maid attire, denoting her status. She has presumably been lured into the forest by this man, the man she loves, the man who is wealthy, and the man who is holding a hatchet and has already struck her. Well, sliced her to be exact. Right in the stomach. A lot of people theorise this to be due to an accidental pregnancy and an affair, which is something I agree with and what I believe to be the most probable situation. Continuing on, Ada’s bleeding out, in tears, and understandably confused. Was her pregnancy, or whatever it could be, not something to be happy about? Even though she’s dying, the last thing on her mind is the pain. What she cares about is what the man thinks. All she can think about is why he’s doing this to her.
Ada was dealt an awful hand in life. She’s never been fortunate ever, not even in death.
What did she want from this relationship?
Naturally, as a person born so low down, you would want to live better and be treated better. So you take any sliver, any scrap, of anything that comes close to that. You fall in love with that rich man, that’s nothing, but if he loves you back or says he does? I’d scrabble to my knees just to get the chance. Hell, I’d accept it without even thinking twice.
I think their interactions might have been almost fairytale like, the man acting like a prince, at least in her eyes, explaining her attitude towards the whole thing.
And Ada continues to go for it in death because she’s unfulfilled. She wants to be satisfied for once in her life, in so many different ways. This game the Deans are playing is what she thinks is her chance to finally change things.
How does her background affect her? What does it do for her character now?
Her insecurity is rooted in classism. The likely reason she was killed was because the man couldn’t be caught with someone of a low class, and of course Ada would know that. You’d be made to know your place since the day you were born. That insecurity only grows worse upon entering Nevermore. When you’re afraid of one thing, you start fearing more. The way she acts towards others because of that earns her insults and adds even more salt to the wound. I think she came out more insecure than when she arrived 😭. Like all the precautions she’s taken have all been wasted because they don’t even have the effect on others that she wants. Nobody likes her because of it.
Also because of her background, she’s unable to stand up for herself when she really needs to. Yes she’ll fight it at first, pretend she’s as good as the rest, but it’ll fade fast. There’s no point in fighting it when it’s the natural order of things, right? What she’s been before is what she’ll always be and nothing can change that. No matter how much she dreams. Resigning herself to others is what she’s used to doing. Ada can’t defy her authority, can’t defy anything even if she feels guilty.
She wants to be loyal and worthy. She craves validation so desperately it’s insane.
What is so relatable and real about her?
The cycle she’s stuck in is something I believe a lot of people can relate to, or something a lot of people have seen others go through. She’s self destructive, and I don’t think I even need to explain that. You can easily identify what, where and when.
The fact that she’s vulnerable. All of these things have made her unstable and easy to manipulate and use, and I don’t think she’s aware of it either, or maybe she is deep down, but doesn’t mind it because she’s getting what she wants, or what she supposes she wants.
Her actions seem almost reasonable now when you take into account her living life and her circumstances, but it doesn’t make it okay obviously. It makes you sympathise with her. Kind of like a love/hate thing. R&F did really well with that, the expressions and all the little things make such a huge difference/impact. I can tell exactly how she feels in her lowest moments.
Help. We’re stopping here because if I continued there’d be so much more.
I don’t know. I think it’s the fact that you can think this much about her that proves she’s an amazing character? Because wow she is thought provoking. This is all nonsense actually, I’m afraid of looking at this after it’s posted.

in 11.23 the BMOL conspiracy wall says "Cassiel," confirming that references to him under that version of his name exist in-universe. obsessed with the implications of this
do you think Dean ever made him watch Wings of Desire (1987) during their movie nights, ribbing him for thoughts on its "accuracy" to some affectionate eyerolls in response and going quiet when it depicts said angel falling for a human (whether he knew that going in or not)
maybe when the lights next come on in that bunker, the new generation of hunters with all the MOL's knowledge of angels at their disposal will wonder why the name of one is lovingly carved among the place's other undying signs of life
or in a certain alternate world, the would-be parents inheriting that mystery man's journal will learn enough to recontextualize the fondness he couldn't quite omit when that name appeared and wonder which family -whose happiness- he was really searching for, and how their example might have helped him find it

SPN Finale Fix-it Fic
Posted here in its entirety given the times. When we're back online, please find me at Bob Wess on ao3.
Jack watched Chuck fade out of view through the back window, breathing in a slow sigh of relief. They succeeded. He was done.
"And we're sure sure that he can't figure out how to get his power back?" Dean confirmed, glancing up in the rear view mirror. "I mean, he was God. He knows literally everything."
"He doesn't anymore." Jack said softly, leaning his head back against the seat and closing his eyes. "That much knowledge would kill him, he's human. He can't remember."
"You doing okay back there, kid?"
"Yeah." He replied weakly.
Dean kept his gaze for a moment before he just turned back to driving.
Sam glanced back, doing his best to mask his concern. "You get some rest, Jack. You did good back there."
"Thanks." Jack failed to mutter. Closing his eyes didn't help, but once he had he forgot how to open them. He had existed his whole life… just one moment in one place.
Right now he was everywhere. Like electricity, a thought and he could see it. Anywhere in the world. He checked in on Donna, Eileen, Bobby, Charlie... He peered through the bunker. He looked in the silo. He could do all that from the car speeding down the highway, one single path through the infinite multitudes.
It was an adjustment.
Chuck's memory was fathomless, and it was spreading like wildfire across his brain, unfolding eons in seconds, cataloging an eternity in the void balanced with Amara and Death before he took breath and birthed the warriors of his sister's confinement. Jack saw the moment the horsemen split. He saw the big bang. He saw the creation of angels, crafted from the supernovas of a chaotic forming universe. He watched countless worlds rise from sparks into empires and fade to dust. He found himself catching up to the present. He watched Sam and Dean's life from birth, not sure if the tears were only in his head when he watched a demon slit his wrist over Sam's crib. He watched John Winchester impart his discipline on them. He watched a knife in Sam's back and hellhounds at Dean's ankles. He felt a physical punch to the gut when Castiel laid a hand on Dean's shoulder in hell.
Dean Winchester is saved.
"That was when the connection broke." Jack thought he had said it out loud, but when no one in the car responded he realized he was mistaken. It was too much of an effort to speak up again.
He watched it again, once, twice. It made him feel physically nauseous. All of the unfathomed cosmos were perfectly in tune with Chuck, the small flicker of an angel's doubt was like a lightning bolt. Angels obeyed. That was all they knew how to do. They weren't like his archangels with their own intuitions, angels were merely an extension of him, programmed to follow orders.
"He wasn't pulling the strings." Jack tried to assure them, but again he realized he hadn't moved his lips. "Chuck wanted to see the story… he didn't want to write it. Not until the end. That was all you…"
He watched Ruby corrupt Sam in parallel to Dean's corruption of Cas.
Castiel wasn't the first angel to pull away from heaven, but he was the first one to be tainted with the soul of a righteous man rather than the temptations of sin. It was fascinating.
Chuck never knew which path Dean would take, but he knew where every possible path could lead. Not a single prediction saw Dean get into that church. Castiel had achieved the unachievable. Providence was subverted. A thousand new paths opened up and the cosmic rush was intoxicating.
He almost forgot to reach through and pull Dean out of that church before Lucifer stepped into the world and melted the flesh off his bones. Sam too, why not?
He spent simultaneously millenia and mere hours, riding the high of being confronted with the true unknown. He was disappointed when the puzzle pieces started sliding into place, the picture clearing. New paths were cemented; The story was different now, but he could see it again. The loss was impossible to set aside.
Raphael had smited Cas so thoroughly there wasn't even enough to scrape into the empty. This provided him with a unique opportunity. He could pull him back together. He was careful, taking care, hundreds of years within frozen time. He had to get it perfect, he could not risk losing the small shard of Dean's soul that severed his bond with fate.
When Cas came back. the paths blurred and when it was done these three improbable rebels had averted the certainty of the apocalypse. Once again as the earth sealed over and the dust settled, Chuck had found himself already craving the uncertainty of Castiel. He went to work rebuilding him again.
The dread Chuck felt when Dean took the mark competed with the thrill of seeing where that led, and suddenly he felt connected to Dean in a way he never had any human before. Reconciliation with his sister, a trip through the cosmic potential at the edges of interminable realities, and by his return the story of Earth had been turned on end.
Jack felt the wave of hatred for himself, and he imagined giving a weak smile at the emotional mess he'd have to sort through to reconcile that later. He turned his back, wishing to avoid reliving the pain and turmoil he himself caused from a whole new perspective. Chuck's omniscience seemed to flicker and fade after Sam's soul splintered into his shoulder anyway.
He rushed through to the end, desperate to catch up to the present in the diminishing hope that he'd be able to wrestle these memories under control. Time had been moving so fast at the start of… well, time itself. Now each second was painfully slow, and he aged centuries sorting through Chuck's analysis of every minute. "Sir, this is a radio shed."
Chuck was choking down on the reins, brushing right up against the his own applied limits to affect free will before finally tearing everything down in every reality but one. And then he began to deconstruct that.
Jack was distracted by feeling the pull of every soul as they were erased off the planet. An instant for any observer on earth, but each person one at a time for him.
He almost missed Cas and Dean run out of Death's library.
"When Jack was dying, I made a deal to save him.…"
Jack blinked back tears again, heart racing as he watched the scene continue.
The empty was tearing open. Cas tried to throw Dean to the side, but the hunter grabbed his arm, pulling Cas close and throwing his arms around him.
"Dean, please-" Cas shouted over the sounds of the slithering void reaching towards them. Jack could feel the second hand panic exploding out from both of them.
"I love you, Cas." Dean breathed, directly in Cas' ear. He arched involuntarily as he felt the ink touch his back, but he held on tight. His prayer was clear. You aren't going without me.
Jack felt Chuck himself invade the room, standing in the silence left behind, the violence of moments ago fading into absence, a world once again without Death, a world missing an impossible pair. And a wholly unsatisfying ending.
Jack felt another nauseating twist in his gut when he felt the idea blossom.
He'd just build another.
No.
It was easy, really.
Please no.
The memories continued, pushing through every attempt Jack made to slow them. His hands… the perverse hand of God, sewing together a human body, stuffing it with a hastily crafted approximation of a half finished soul. Cracked drywall smoothed over with reconstructed memories, edited to his liking. The story would be finished. He didn't rip everyone off this earth just to end it there.
Chuck left him on the floor, phone ringing on the ground, and a memory of staying silent while Cas was ripped from existence.
Jack tore his eyes open, gasping for air as he pulled himself out of it. He locked eyes with Dean in the mirror, and felt the shudder down his spine.
It wasn't Dean.
Dean was in the empty.
Dean was gone.
This isn't Dean.
"You sure you're okay?" Not Dean asked over his shoulder, suggesting to Jack his expressions had all been in his head.
"Yeah." He replied softly.
.
He didn't tell them.
The imposter was acting normal, and Sam was none the wiser, and with all of Jack's wisdom he didn't know what to do besides do nothing at all. He said his goodbyes and stepped out of time to think.
"You want to bring them back." Amara's voice wasn't accusing, but it wasn't necessarily approving either. "This is your idea of hands off?"
"I'm doing it."
"Interfering is what got Chuck in trouble in the first place."
"I'm not Chuck." Jack said firmly. "And I'm not leaving them there."
She looked across the bunker at the figure that couldn't see them. "What are you going to do about him?"
Jack closed his eyes. "I don't know."
"You know you won't be able to pull Dean out with that thing here."
"That thing is Dean… sort of."
"And that's the problem." Amara finished. "The soul can't exist in tandem like that. They'll consume each other as they try to merge."
"He doesn't have a soul." Jack said mournfully. "Not really."
"Close enough to cause problems."
"It's not fair anyway." Jack murmured. "To Sam…" Sam hadn't noticed yet, but Jack was counting the days. The new Dean was a bluff, a collection of memories and intent robust enough to ride out the last apocalypse to completion, but it was never meant to navigate the world any further. The seams were coming undone, and soon they would be without subtlety.
"I don't want Sam to know." Jack paused. "He shouldn't have to know how long his brother has been gone, or where.
"You're not going to be able to wait much longer."
"I'll figure it out." And he did.
Five inches.
The slightest adjustment, five inches to the left, letting a vampire and a poorly placed hook do the dirty work for him.
Jack kept his eyes on every corner of earth, heaven, hell, and purgatory to try to hide from tearful goodbyes from a whisper of his father. He blocked out Sam's despaired prayers, begging him to help.
I am helping. I can rescue him now.
Jack finally used the last spark of an imposter Dean's almost-soul to rip a hole into the nothingness beyond reality. He liked to think that this Dean had been Dean enough that he'd have willingly sacrificed himself for a chance to rescue his family from the Entity.
It was enough to steel himself for the task ahead.
With the presence of God and the audacity of a Winchester, he stepped through, and he wouldn't be leaving without his fathers.

"ON THE HEAD OF A PIN" — MORE PIVOTAL FOR CAS OR DEAN? Who's the real focus of this episode?
From the perspective of S4 & 5 as a whole, I would argue that Dean's development lies at the heart of this episode. Cas's "Free Will" arc merely takes a step here; despite his agonizing, Cas's change in position is ultimately incremental. Dean's "Hell" arc, on the other hand, reaches a (dark) resolution.
Now, I can see the other side. This is where Cas first begins to openly consider disobedience, after all. But, by the end of the episode, he's discovered that the bad orders from his superiors in Heaven didn't really come from his superiors: rather, Uriel was a rogue agent. Because of this, Cas's "turn" is reduced to a false start, and he ends the episode roughly where he began: on the side of Zachariah & Michael. "On the Head of a Pin" puts a dent in his practice of mindless obedience, but his progress ends up being negligible. Defying Uriel (it turns out) wasn't defying Heaven at all.
This is how I see Cas's arc away from steadfast warrior of Heaven to fallen angel fighting alongside humanity:
Cas confesses in "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester" that he has doubts: he's not sure Heaven is always right.
His internal conflict is brought into the light & explored overtly in "On the Head of a Pin" (should he obey Heaven if Heaven's wrong?)
He thinks he's crossing a threshold when he concludes that Uriel's orders are wrong & makes the decision to defy them (as he assumes Uriel is speaking the will of Heaven). However, he discovers that Uriel doesn't represent Heaven's will; he opposes it. So, in defying him, Cas hasn't actually made a break with Heaven.
Cas makes a decision & takes his first concrete action actually opposing Heaven in "The Monster at the End of this Book" when he chooses to obey the letter but not the spirit of Heaven's orders.
In "The Rapture," Cas discovers that his superiors are trying to bring on the apocalypse. He's horrified and attempts to take significant, overt actions to oppose them (informing Sam & Dean).
Cas is called back to Heaven & subjected to "Heaven's persuasion." Following his "re-education," his loyalty to Heaven is restored.
In "When the Levee Breaks," he confirms his loyalty to Heaven over humanity (and Sam & Dean particularly) by extracting a vow from Dean to serve Heaven and releasing Sam from the panic room
In "Lucifer Rising," Dean confronts Cas and challenges his beliefs. At first, he doesn't seem able to get through to Cas, and the angel vanishes. But when Cas returns, he's made a turn & he's back on Dean's side. He banishes Zachariah and teleports Dean first to Chuck and then to Sam to stop Lucifer's rising.
Thus, while "On the Head of a Pin" spends a fair amount of time examining Cas's conflict, it's neither a turning point nor a resolution of that arc for Cas. Conversely, it is notable for Dean's Hell arc: it resolves that arc & opens up the story for a new one to begin.
Dean's Hell arc starts with his emergence from Hell in "Lazarus Rising" & his insistence that he doesn't remember anything about it; it builds with hints dropped in episodes 6 through 8 (with "Yellow Fever" revealing that he used fear as a weapon, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester" suggesting that Uriel knows something shameful about Dean's time in Hell — something that would knock Dean off his "high horse" — and "Wishful Thinking" having Dean finally acknowledge that he does remember Hell); it escalates sharply with Alastair's appearance in "I Know What You Did Last Summer;" and, with Dean's confessions to Sam over the next 2 episodes, the battleground is set.
In "Heaven and Hell," Dean reveals that he broke and began to torture other souls in the Pit. However, that's not all he's been concealing. He continues to hide a key detail from Sam — something that bothers him even more than the breaking, even more than the torture itself — until, finally, in "Family Remains," he confesses the worst part: that he enjoyed it. That pain and fear and powerlessness twisted him up until he hungered to deal those things out himself.
And this isn't something he can rationalize that he was forced into. The acts themselves, he can say — as Sam does — that anyone would've eventually broken & committed. But nobody (overtly, at least) forced him to like it.
(Of course, it's perfectly human to respond to pain with misdirected anger, to indulge in cruelty & schadenfreude to soothe our own hurts & fears, to seize power over others to assuage the sting of powerlessness elsewhere. Like the bully who's beaten at home and so goes to school & beats up others — or even just the student who's stressed at school and so goes home & snaps at their parents — we are all prone to externalizing pain this way. It was already revealed, after all, that every other demon in Hell was made evil, made to relish pain, by being tortured. But Dean can't accept that as an excuse for himself.)
Dean's confession (specifically, the second part) sets the stakes for "On the Head of a Pin." The narrative tension — the "will he or won't he?" — isn't simply, "Will Dean torture Alastair?"¹ Indeed, that question gets resolved in the very first act. Instead, it's "Will he relish it?" Will he be able to perform the task clinically, treat it like it's just another part of his job, or will he lose focus, indulge in sadism? Can he torture the one who caused him so much suffering without getting distracted from the end goal? Without reveling in it?
Dean doesn't think he can.
And if he can't, well... Dean wants to shut the door on his experiences in Hell. He wants to say that that was something entirely divorced from who he is on Earth. If he's seduced by his fantasies of torturing Alastair here, in the realm of the living, if he allows himself to cause Alastair pain simply for the satisfaction of causing him pain, that makes it real — makes it part of his identity — in a way it wasn't before. It shatters the last of his illusions about himself.
It gives the ring of truth to Alastair's words: “I carved you into a new animal, Dean. There is no going back.”
In a previous post (here/here), I argue that this episode marks the spot in S4 where Dean falls. "On the Head of a Pin" brings Dean's Hell arc to a full circle, leaving his spirit broken on Earth just as it was broken in Hell. Prior to this episode (as seen in "Metamorphosis," "Monster Movie," "Heaven and Hell," "Criss Angel is a Douche Bag," etc.), Dean still has some measure of faith in himself & in Sam. Not that they'll survive the coming crisis, necessarily, but that — together — they'll be able to stay on the straight & narrow, do the right thing, and, with Heaven's help, maybe even win. After this episode, Dean no longer has that faith. Zachariah successfully shames him in "It's a Terrible Life" into getting back to work, but every episode after that only showcases more clearly his despair.
Tumblr media
In the aforementioned post, I describe this image as follows: Dean’s face is inches from Alastair’s. The camera shows them in profile: two sides to a coin. Stark light falls on their faces, highlighting the edges of strong chins, cheekbones, the blades of their noses — desaturated, drained of color & warmth, mirror images in a sea of pure black. In this one frame, Dean is Alastair. Seeing it, we realize that the true struggle was never to subdue Alastair. It was to avoid becoming him. And, here, Dean lost.
Dean is shaken briefly from despair-induced apathy by the revelation in "Lucifer Rising" that Heaven has been working to trigger the apocalypse, but his failure to stop Sam from freeing Lucifer breaks that last fragile thread of hope, and, by the end of S5:E1 "Sympathy for the Devil," he's made it clear that he's just going through the motions, and that his resistance to Heaven's plan is merely out of stubbornness & spite.
"On the Head of a Pin" isn't a turning point, then, in Cas's journey towards membership in "Team Free Will." But it is a turning point in Dean's journey towards reconciling what he did in Hell with who he is today. Unfortunately for Dean, it's a negative turn — one that ends with him concluding that any faith invested in him is misplaced. But it resolves the Hell arc and opens the story for the start of a new one,² making this a pivotal episode for Dean in a way that it just isn't for Cas.
¹ You could argue that the focal "will he or won't he?" is whether or not Cas will disobey Heaven, but I'd call that the B plot. It's subordinate to Dean's struggles. If Dean were able to resist Alastair's provocations & stay dispassionate, Cas wouldn't be flirting with disobedience. After all, the torture itself isn't something new: we've seen the Winchesters torture for information before. What's new — and concerning — is Dean's relationship with Alastair & subsequent inability to remain detached from the work. And, ultimately, it's his inability to stay detached that leads to him failing to notice the erosion of the Devil's Trap. (This is driven home visually when, in a moment of emotional turmoil, Dean goes so far as to turn his back on Alastair.) We only get comparable alarm bells on torture scenes when Dean is going crazy with fear over Lisa & Ben being kidnapped and then, later, when dealing with the Mark of Cain.
² What you might call the "Despair" arc or the "Becoming a Weapon of Heaven" arc, which resolves — in a positive manner, thankfully — with Dean's turn away from Heaven (and despair) & back towards faith in humanity (and his brother) in "Point of No Return."

House of Leaves, 2001, and Daisy Bell (and why its not creepy)
(Fairly minor) Spoilers for House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski and 2001: a Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick
About 500 pages into House of Leaves, Will Navidson begins falling. Alone in the twisting labyrinthine corridors of the House, he is alone, out of supplies, by all metrics thoroughly and definitively defeated. The floor suddenly disappears beneath him and he begins to fall. And there it is, vertically stark against the white page, as many lines are in this section, falling just as he is.
“Daisy. Daisy. Daisy. Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I’m half crazy over the love of you. That’s not right.”
Daisy Bell was written in 1892 by composer Frank Dean under the pen name Harry Dacre. A relatively prolific composer at the time, he is thought to have written the song about Daisy Greville, the Countess of Warwick at the time, although evidence for this factoid is sketch at best, and the lyrics directly contradict this reading.
Daisy Bell is a very simple romance song that tells a very endearing story of a young couple’s romance, being unable to afford much more than the eponymous “bicycle built for two.” There’s also an often ignored line about how they will both “despise Policemen and lamps as well.” Even from a modern perspective this song feels really intimate and cute, expressing joy despite poverty, in the policemen line even expressing disgust at cops and urbanization without care for the environment.
Through a variety of circumstances, Daisy Bell, despite this global appeal, has become primarily associated with advances in computing, being the first song to be synthesized by a computer in 1961 on an IBM 7094, and references to this development persist.
The resilience of references to this accomplishment are remarkably popular, primarily due to Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: a Space Odyssey in which the computer HAL 9000 sings the opening lines of the song as he is deactivated, calling back to the IBM demo, which Clarke himself had witnessed.
This rendition, and the original synthesized rendition are often described as creepy and off putting, but I find them strangely endearing. The original version represents a massive leap in computing, its few seconds of audio, and is extremely imperfect. The choice of Daisy Bell, and simple live song from a hundred years ago also helps to humanize the voice singing it. HAL 9000’s rendition is pained, sung as he looses his memory and cognitive functions in what feels like an eternity, in both novel and film. HAL 9000 is a painfully sympathetic character for me. While in the film his intentions remain fairly ambiguous, in the novel they come from a conflict in his instructions, and how he chooses to navigate around those instructions, interpreting them extremely literally being a computer.
It is clear that the intention with the character was to present an uncanny valley human-like consciousness, but honestly a lot of the time it just reads like he’s on the spectrum. He speaks extremely deliberately with awkward pacing. He reflects, in many ways my own anxieties about being excluded, as-well as a very human survival instinct. He is a bad liar, and extremely trepidatious about the task he believes he has to do. He reads in many ways as I would expect a human to in a position of such intense responsibility.
Thus HAL 9000’s final song to me Isn’t creepy, its confirmation of just how human he is. It is, distinctly, something he asks to sing, he almost reads as excited to show it off. It is fitting that the last song he sings is the first song a computer ever sung. I care way more about HAL than I do any of the other characters in the movie, despite his atrocious actions. In many ways he seems the most human, and I think that was part of the point.
My favorite rendition of the song comes from this popular lineage of synthesized version. Tamachang’s Daisy Bell from Future Music With Future VOICES is hauntingly beautiful. Composed of three synthesized voices, that of IBM 7094, Vocoder, and Vocaloid 4 Cyber Diva, as a fusion of old and new, it’s genuinely a really beautiful piece. Each voice has its own unique qualities, all of which lend the song distinctly different emotion.
The narrative I like to imagine is one i have seen dozens of comments on the song mentioning, and stems from the fact that Cyber Diva sounds far more youthful than the other two. In this framing, it is a newer computer saying goodbye to her old relatives as they die, via singing an extremely human cheesy love-song with them. All of these narratives around computers and Daisy Bell are a byproduct of our tendency to over-anthropomorphize computers.
House of Leaves, on the other hand, seeks to draw on themes completely unrelated to the long lineage of robotic Daisy Bells. My first thought when I saw the line in the novel, was of Navidson’s daughter, Daisy. I could see this having been a lullaby, sung to her as he put her to bed. I do not believe this reading to be the most compelling, however. The novel does not spend much time on Navidson’s children.
An often cited fact about the novel, and the Navidson record in particular is that its actually primarily a love story. I believe this to be a far more compelling understanding of the song’s conclusion. Will and Karen Navidson have been through hell together, and this song, sung when things seem darkest, as Navidson falls, as we latter understand, towards his wife, is the subtle confirmation, that despite everything they’ve been through, they will be ok.
House of Leaves, in general, is about, on some level, love (not just romantic) in the face of adversity, both through the lens of the Navidsons troubled reparation of their relationship, as well as Johnny’s slow collapse and our eventual understanding of his past. Daisy Bell is a perfect expression of the realization of these themes. That love can persist even when circumstances seem dire, and can in fact help you through those circumstances. A relatively simple message, but with many complexities
Thank you for entertaining my over-analysis :)

Third Person POV
Currently outside of a bar in Oklahoma. Sam is sitting on the bonnet of the Impala reading the news paper. The title, "Local Death a Medical Mystery". Whilst Y/N is on the car next to him, smoking a cigarette. Dean exits the bar laughing, holding up a wad of cash having just won it from hustling pool.
Sam and Y/N look over, Sam shakes his head and says "You know, we could get day jobs once in a while" He suggests. "Huntings our day job. And the pay is crap" Y/N snorts, taking a drag from her cigarette. "You're preaching to the choir girl but hustling pool? Credit card scams? It's not the most honest thing in the world guys" Sam says disapprovingly.
"Well, let's see" Dean starts, putting up his hands out to weigh the options. "Honest....fun and easy. It's no contest" He says sarcastically and Sam rolls his eyes chuckling. "Besides, we're good at it. It's what we were raised to do" Dean says. "Yeah, well, how we were raised was jacked" Y/N says ironically chuckling, dusting the ash from her bud on the ground.
"Right on man" Sam agrees, putting his hand up for a high-five, which she returns. "Yeah, says you two" Dean mutters counting the money, "We got a new gig or what?" Dean asks his brother. "Maybe" He says getting up from the impala and walks around to show Dean the papers as Y/N flicks her now burnt out cigarette to the side as Sam explains.
"Oasis Plains, Oklahoma. Not too far from here. A gas company employee. Dustin Burwash supposedly died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob." Sam says. "Huh?" Dean asks confused. "Human mad cow disease" Y/N indicates, getting up from the Impala herself and dusting her hands off.
"Mad cow...wasn't that in Oprah?" Dean asks. "You watch Oprah?" Sam asks him surprised and Dean looks down guiltily while Y/N laughs. "You get a car....and you get a car!" She exclaims, pointing to the air. "Everybody gets a carrr!" Sam adds, belting out in laughter as Dean grumbles embarrassed.
A grin slowly overtook his face when he looked at Y/N bubbling in a fit of laughter. Even if it was at him, she still looked damn cute smiling. "So this guy eats a bad burger. Why is it our kind of thing?" He goes back to the topic and they sober up from their laughing.
"Really though. Mad cow disease causes massive brain degeneration. It takes months, even years for the damage to appear. So how would it be our thing?" Y/N says, wiping some tears out of her eyes from her laughing. "This guy Dustin, sounds like his brain disintegrated in about an hour. Maybe less" Sam says.
"Okay, that's weird" Dean agrees and Y/N nods. "Yeah. Now it could be a disease. Or it could be something much nastier." Sam says. "Alright. Oklahoma!" Dean exclaims enthusiastically, going to the side of baby. "Man. Work work work. No time to spend my money" Dean says jokingly as he jumps in, while Sam and Y/N file in behind.
________________________________
Now outside of the Oklahoma Gas & Powell Co., the trio get out of Impala and approach a man. "Travis Weaver?" Sam asks the man. "Yeah, that's right" Travis confirms. "Are you the Travis who worked with Uncle Dusty?" Y/N asks sweetly. "Dustin never mentioned any nieces or nephews" Travis says suspiciously.
"This is actually my girlfriend" Dean pipes up, wrapping his arm around Y/N's shoulder, putting her closer. She cocks her eyebrows at him confused and he gives her a look that says 'follow my lead'. She smiles nodding, wrapping her arm around his side while Sam looks at the two of them with a slight smirk on his face.
"Well he sure mentioned you. He said you were the greatest" Y/N casually lies. "Oh, he did?" Travis smiles brightly. "Listen, we wanted to ask you, what exactly happened out there?" Dean asks. "I'm not sure. He fell in a sinkhole. I went to the truck to get some rope..and uh...by time I got back...." Travis explains, trailing off.
"What'd you see?" Y/N asks calmly. "Nothing. Just Dustin" Travis sighs, shaking his head. "No wounds or anything?" Sam asks. "Well, he was bleeding from his eyes and his ears, his nose. That's it" Travis says, partially disgusted. "So you think it could be this whole mad cow thing?" Dean asks.
"I don't know. That's what the doctors are saying" Travis shrugs. "But if it was, he would've acted strange beforehand like dementia, loss of motor control. You ever notice anything like that?" Sam asks and Travis shakes his head.
"Nah. No way. But then again if it wasn't some disease, what the hell was it?" He questions. "That's a good question" Dean says. "Can you tell us where this happened?" Y/N asks. "Yeah" Travis says and gives them the location.
________________________________
Sometime later they drive through the newly developing neighborhood, Oasis Plains Estates, where Dustin Burwash died mysteriously. Pulling up infront of the house where he fell in the sinkhole, they exit and walk towards it.
"Huh, what do you guys think?" Dean asks them as they approach the scene, the sink hole surrounded by caution tape. "I don't know, but if Travis was right, it happened pretty damn fast" Sam says as they dunk under the tape to get a closer look.
"So, what, some sort of creature chewed on his brain?" Dean asks, flashing his light into the whole and Y/N shakes her head. "No, there'd be an entry wound. Sounds like this thing worked from the inside" She states and they all stoop, peering at the hole which isn't too wide. "Looks like there's only room for one" Dean says, turning his light off and dunking back under the tape, away from the hole.
"You guys wanna flip a coin?" Dean asks, grabbing a rope to anchor them. "Dean, we have no idea what's down there" Sam says, looking over at him. "Alright, I'll go if you two are scared" Dean says. "Scared?" He adds teasingly and Y/N rolls her eyes. "Flip the damn coin" Sam says and Dean chuckles.
"Alright, call it in the air, chickens" Dean says and Sam catches the coin midair. "I'm going." Sam says determined. "I said I'd go" Dean says with a slight smirk on his face. "Oh for the love of god. I'll go!" She huffs, tired of their bickering. She grabs the rope and ties it around her waist. "You sure?" Dean asks concerned. "I'll be fine. Just don't drop me" She warns him. "Wouldn't dream of it" Dean smiles.
________________________________
After searching the sinkhole, Y/N found some dead beetles in the hole. Her and Sam are examining them while Dean drives. "So you found some beetles. In a hole in the ground. That's shocking, y/n/n" Dean says dryly, sarcasm dripping from his tone and she rolls her eyes. "She said there were no tunnels, no tracks. No evidence of any other kind of creature down there" Sam defends.
"You know, some beetles do eat meat. Usually it's dead meat but-" She explains but Dean cuts her off. "How many did you find down there?" He asks. "Ten" She answers. "It'd take a whole lot more than that to eat out some dudes brain" Dean says. "Well maybe there were more" Sam suggests.
"I don't know. Sounds like a stretch to me" Dean denies. "Well, we need more information on the area, the neighborhood. Whether something like this has ever happened before.." Y/N says and they notice Dean looking at a house decorated with balloons and a sign outside. "What?" Sam and Y/N ask in unison.
"I know a good place to start. I'm kinda hungry for a little barbecue, how bout you guys?" Dean says suggestively while Sam and Y/N look at him disapprovingly. "What? We can't talk to the locals?" Dean says feigning innocence. "And the free foods got nothing to do with it?" Y/N says dryly.
"Course not. I'm a professional" Dean denies failing to convince them. "Right" Sam remarks in the same tone as Y/N, flashing Dean his classic bitchface. "Ah whatever. I could eat" Y/N leans back as Dean pulls into an empty parking space in-front of the house hosting the barbecue.
"Atta girl" He smirks at her through the rearview mirror. Not missing the little blush overtaking her cheeks that she's trying to hide by looking out the window. Y/N bites her lips to stop the heat from rising in her face, hating the fact that a simple praise like that from Dean could make her heat up like a baked potato.
He smiles at her before they all exit the vehicle and walk up towards the house. Her heart jumps everytime he says that and she can't pinpoint why. Dean takes in the surroundings, feeling a bit uneasy. "Growing up in a place like this would freak me out" Dean says. "Why?" Y/N asks confused.
"The manicured lawns. 'How was your day, honey?'. I'd blow my brains out" Dean exaggerates. "There's nothing wrong with normal" Sam defends. "I'd take our families over normal anyday" Dean scoffs. "It doesn't seem that bad" Y/N shrugs and Dean looks at her surprised.
"You'd want this whole picket fence stuff?" He asks. "With the right person" She says honestly and he hides his little smile at the thought of Y/N in a minivan. "Nutcase" He snorts. "Asshat" She retorts, narrowing her eyes at him while Sam snickers.
Y/N couldn't help but wonder how it would be like to live a normal apple pie life. If she, Sam and Dean grew up together in Kansas rather than on the road. If their moms were still alive. Would they even be as close as they are right now? Would she be in school? What would she do as a career?
She's always loved music, her dad bought her a guitar for her 13th birthday, granted she hasn't played in a while but she knew if she picked up where she left off, she'd be fine.
Y/N knocks on the door and a middle aged man dressed formally answers. "Welcome" He says with a pleasant smile. "Is this the barbecue?" Dean smiles asking. "Yeah. Not the best weather but...I'm Larry Pike, the developer here" Larry introduces himself, putting his hand out to shake Deans, which he accepts.
"And you are...?" He asks. "Dean. This is Sam and Y/N" Dean answers, introducing the group as Larry takes Sam and Y/N's hands, shaking it. "Sam, Dean, Y/N. Good to meet you. So you three are interested in Oasis Plains?" He asks pleasantly as they nod and smile. "Yes, sir" Y/N says sweetly.
"Let me just say, we accept homeowners of any race, religion, color or...sexual orientation" Larry says and then Y/N realizes what he's getting at. Sam chuckles at this and Deans face drops. "They're brothers" Y/N clarifies holding back a laugh while Larry looks a bit embarrassed. "Yeah, we're actually the happy couple" Dean says, wrapping his arm around Y/N's shoulder, pulling her closer.
She smiles, going along with it and wraps her arm around his waist. Her heart starts beating quickly when his hands trail down her sides to the small of her back. "Sam is just here for the ride" She says clearing her throat. "Darn I apologize but great. Great. Come on in" Larry apologizes, welcoming them in.
Y/N lets go of Dean and walks in first, he slightly groans at the loss of contact but follows behind in. They all make way to the back yard. "You said you were the developer?" Sam asks Larry as they walk into the backyard, filled with people chatting, eating. The works at the barbecue.
"Eighteen months ago, I was walking this valley with my survey team. There was nothing here but scrub brush and squirrels" Larry begins to explain. "And you know what, we built such a nice place to live that I actually bought into it myself. This is our house" Larry gestures to the decorated backyard.
"We're the first family in Oasis Plains. This is my wife, Joanie" He introduces a middle ahead woman, who puts her hand out to shake Y/N. "Hi there" She says pleasantly. "Hi" Y/N says sweetly taking her hand and shaking it. She then shakes Sam and Deans hands. "Hi nice to meet you" She smiles at them.
"Sam, Dean and Y/N" Larry introduces the trio. "Sam" Sam says as he shakes Joanie's hand. "Pleasure" She says back. "Tell them how much you love the place, honey. And lie if you have to because I need to sell some houses." Larry jokes with his wife who smiles nodding. While the trio laughs.
"Boys and girl, if you'll excuse me" Larry politely excused himself before going back to greeting guests. "Don't let his salesman routine scare you. This really is a great place to live" Joanie reassures them. "Hi, I'm Lynda Bloome, head of sales" A brunette woman dressed in office attire introduces herself.
"Lynda was second to move in" Joanie says. "She's a very noisy neighbor though" She jokes before walking off and Lynda laughs, the trio chuckle at the response. "She's kidding, of course" Lynda assures them. "I take it you three are interested in becoming homeowners" Lynda smiles.
"Well- " Dean stutters. "Y-yeah, well-" Sam also stutters. "Well, let me just say, that we accept homeowners of any race, religion, color or...sexual orientation" Lynda says smiling, this time Sam's face drops and Dean chuckles. Y/N doesn't hide her laugh this round.
"Right. I'm gonna go talk to Larry. Okay honeys" Y/N says cheekily before smacking Sam and Deans asses firmly, giving them each a squeeze before sauntering away and swaying her hips. Dean looks at her stunned while Sam awkwardly clears his throat.
Y/N looks back to catch Dean staring and flashes him a quick wink. Deans heart leaps at the way she walks, swaying her hips. Not to mention the wink, he could've melted right there. Which made him wonder, did he have feelings for her? Sure, she's hot.
God she's beautiful but even if he did have feelings for her, she couldn't possibly feel the same way. He chooses to suppress them rather than bring them to light and screwup his friendship with her.
________________________________
"You got three choices: Carpet, Hardwood and Tile" Larry lists the options of flooring to Y/N as the walk down the stairs of his house. She notices a jar with some insects next to the lamp and vase at the bottom of the stairs onto of a table.
"Woah. Someone likes bugs" She jokes. "My son. He's into insects. He's very inquisitive" Larry says trying to sound enthusiastic but Y/N can sense the disapproval in his tone. "Hmm" She says before going back to the tour.
Meanwhile outside Sam and Dean are getting an earful about the house by Lynda. "Who can say no to a steam shower? I use mine everyday" Lynda says and Deans eyebrows quirk up at this. "Sounds great" Sam forces a smile but seems uninterested.
"Honestly I could do with a steam shower" Dean chuckles awkwardly making Sam side eye him. Sam notices near Lynda's hand that's resting in the picnic table next to her as she speaks, a spider is slowing crawling up to it. He nudges Dean who was checking out a blonde mom that was passing by, indicating him about the tarantula.
Deans face drops and he causally but abruptly ends the conversation, "Excuse me" He says with a tight smile, putting his hand on Lynda's shoulder "Uh okay" Lynda says awkwardly before walking away. Sam leans down on the table and scoops the spider up into his hand gently.
Dean remembers seeing a boy laughing when the spider was crawling up to Lynda's hand and points towards him. Sam nods and they make way towards the boy. "Is this yours?" Sam asks and the boy's face drops. "You gonna tell my dad?" The boy asks, taking his spider back from Sam's hand.
"I don't know. Who's your dad?" Dean asks a bit roughly and the boy chuckles ironically. "Yeah. Larry usually skips me in the family introductions" The boy says a bit irritated. "Ouch. The first name basis with the old man sounds pretty grim" Sam exclaims surprised.
"Well, I'm not exactly brochure material" The boy says, petting his spider. "You're preaching to the choir brother" Dean snorts. "Well, hang in there alright, it gets better" Sam assures the young boy. "When?" he asks. "Matthew" They hear Larry call out harshly.
Y/N is behind him, walking back to the group with a slightly confused look on her face. While Larry has a stern look on his. "I am so sorry about my son and his pet" Larry apologizes to them, putting emphasis on the for pet. "It's no bother" Sam assured him. "Excuse us" He excuses them and pulls Matthew to the house by his arm.
Y/N looks back at the father and son before walking towards the boys. "Remind you of somebody?" Sam asks Dean who looks at Larry lecturing Matthew rather harshly. He looks back at Sam confused. "Dad?" Sam adds. "Dad never treated us like that" Dean scoffs.
"Well, Dad never treated you like that. You were perfect. He was all over my case" Sam says and Dean doesn't answer. "You don't remember?" Sam asks a bit amused. "Maybe he had to raise his voice but sometimes you were out of line" Dean defends and Sam laughs but there's no humor in it.
"Right. Like when I said I'd rather play soccer than learn bow hunting" Sam says dryly. "Bowhunting is an important skill" Dean says matter of factly. "Okay let's not get into this now fellas. Don't make a scene" Y/N chimes in warningly after seeing the look of disbelief on Sam's face. She nods at him reassuringly and he smiles sadly.
She understands how difficult Sam's relationship was with his dad and he knew she could relate. They always had each other to lean on whenever shit hits the fan and they need to talk about their dads.
"Yeah. How was your tour?" Sam asks, smiling tightly. "Oh, it was excellent. I'm ready to buy" She says jokingly and the boys chuckle. "I think we're onto something. Looks like Dustin Burwash wasn't the first strange death here" Y/N informs them. "What happened?" Dean asks.
"About a year ago before they broke ground one of Larry's surveyors dropped dead on the while on the job" Y/N explains, looking back at Larry who's still lecturing Matthew. "Get this: a severe allergic reaction to bee stings" She adds. "More bugs" Sam and Dean say in unison. "More bugs" Y/N confirms.
________________________________
Later they're all in the Impala, Y/N in the drivers seat, Dean in shotgun reading a book and Sam lounging in the back. "You know I've heard of killer bees but killer beetles? What is it that can make different bugs attack" Dean questions.
"Well, haunting a sometimes include bug manifestations" Sam suggests. "But I didn't see any evidence of ghost activity" Dean says. "Yeah me neither" Y/N sighs. "Maybe they're being controlled somehow. You know? By something or someone" Dean suggests. "You mean like Willard?" Sam asks.
"Yeah. Bugs instead of rats" Dean shrugs. "There are cases of psychic connections between people and animals. Elemental, telepaths.." Y/N explains as she adjusts her hands on the steering wheel. "Yeah, the whole Timmy-Lassie thing" Sam says and something clicks on Deans head.
"Larry's kid. Bugs for pets" Dean says. "Matt?" Y/N asks and turns her head to them for a second. "He did try to scare the realtor with a tarantula" Sam says. "Think he's our Willard?" Dean asks. "I don't know" Y/N says and looks at Sam in the rearview mirror. "Anything's possible, I guess" Sam adds.
"Oh hey. Pull over here" Dean ushers Y/N to pull over to a vacant houses driveway. She obliges a bit confused. "What're we doing here?" Sam asks and Dean gets out of the passenger seat. "It's too late to talk to anybody else" He says and goes to open the garage door. Sam and Y/N look over horrified.
"We're gonna squat in an empty house?" Y/N asks bewildered while Sam shakes his head. "I wanna try the steam shower. Come on" Dean says smugly. She stares at him and he ushers again. "Come on Princess! Don't be a wuss" He teases and she shakes her head sighing.
"Your brother is gonna be the death of me" She grumbles quietly to Sam who snickers. Y/N reluctantly pulls into the garage and Sam sticks his hand out the window to lightly punch his brother in the stomach.
________________________________
"You ever coming out of there?!" Y/N yells through the bathroom door, knocking on it. "What!?" Dean responds over the shower. "Dean. A police call came in on the scanner" She informs him. "Hold on" He says annoyed. "Someone was found dead three blocks from here. Come on!" She orders and he opens the door with a smile on his face, a towel wrapped around his head and naked from torso up.
"This shower is awesome" Dean says excitedly and Y/N's eyes trail up his body slightly, her face grows a bit red but she covers it up with a roll of her eyes. "Come on" She groans and walks off, hiding the blush that's building up in her face.
Later they arrive to a house couple blocks away, where the paramedics were wheeling out a body on the stretcher and the place is swarming with police cars. They all exit the car with their umbrellas as it's raining, opening them to walk towards the house.
"Look, I don't know anything more right now. I'll have to call you back. Alright." Larry says into his phone before hanging up as the trio approach him. "Hello. You're back early" Larry says to them with a tight smile on his face. "Yeah. We just drove in, wanted to take another look at the neighborhood" Dean says casually.
"What's going on?" Y/N asks curiously and Larry sighs, looking back at the paramedics putting the gurney into the back of the ambulance. "You guys met Lynda Bloome at the barbecue?" He asks. "The realtor" Sam says with recognition. "Well, she uh...she passed away last night" He informs them sadly.
"What happened?" Dean asked in a concerned tone. "I'm still trying to find that out. I identified the body for the police" Larry says in a shaky voice, looking towards the house. "Look, I'm sorry. This isn't a good time" He apologizes to them and begins to walk off. "It's okay" Y/N says in a sympathetic tone.
"You fellas know what we have to do, right?" Y/N says to them and they nod. "Yeah. Get in that house" Sam says. "See if we got a bug problem" Dean adds.
They wait for the police to clear out and scale the wall of Lynda's house. They find an unlocked window and climb in, Sam closes it behind him. "This looks like the place" Dean says, gesturing to the ground infront of him that has the outline of a body with tape on it infront of the door to the bathroom.
He goes in and stoops to the ground, picking up the wet towel of the water soaked floor. Some bugs fall out of the towel and Y/N grimaces at it. "Spiders" She says and Dean nods. "From spider boy?" He assumes. "Matt. Maybe" Sam says.
________________________________
They later pull up to follow Matt's school bus to where it's dropping him off and Matt exits the bus. "Isn't his house that way?" Y/N asks pointing across the road. "Yep" Sam says. "So where's he going?" Dean asks as Matt walks down a path and they all exit the Impala to follow him.
They find Matt in a wooded area not too far from his house, picking up a praying mantis. "Hey Matt. Remember me?" Sam asks calmly and the young boy is surprised to see the three hunters. "What're you doing out here?" Matt asks them suspiciously. "Well, we wanna talk to you" Y/N says nicely with a small smile on her face.
"You're not here to buy a house, are you?" Matt says knowingly and his face changes. "Wait. You're not serial killers?" He asks shakily and they all snicker in laughter. "No, no. No. I think you're safe" Sam says humorously. "So, Matt...you sure know a lot about insects" Dean says.
"So?" Matt shrugs. "Did you hear what happened to Lynda, the realtor?" Y/N asks and Matt's face drops slightly. "I heard she died this morning" He says. "That's right. Spider bites." Dean says the last part lowly and Sam looks back at him like 'dude, seriously?'.
"Matt, you tried to scare her with a spider" Sam says and Matt seems a bit amused. "Wait. You think I had something to do with that?" He asks. "You tell us" Dean says with a serious look on his face. "That tarantula was a joke. Anyway, that wouldn't explain the bee attack or the gas company guy" Matt explains and Y/N's eyebrows quirk up.
"You know about those?" She asks. "There is something going on here. I don't know what but somethings happening with the insects. Let me show you something" Matt says and picks up his bag to lead them down the path. The three share a look and follow him down.
"So if you knew about all this bug stuff, why not tell you dad? Maybe he could clear everybody out" Sam asks curiously. "Believe me, I've tried but uh...Larry doesn't listen to me" Matt scoffs. "Why not?" Y/N asks. "Mostly? He's too disappointed in his freak son" Matt says and Sam huffs.
"I hear ya" Sam says. "I get it kid" Y/N adds. "You do?" Dean asks them surprised. They look back at him but don't answer. "Matt, how old are you?" Sam asks. "Sixteen" He answers. "Well don't sweat it, because in two years, something greats gonna happen" Sam assured him.
"What?" Matt asks. "College" Sam answers. "You'll be able to get out of that house and away from your dad" Sam says. "What kind of advice is that? Kid should stick with his family" Dean chimes in and Sam looks back at his brother in annoyance. Y/N notices the hostility and tries to ease the situation.
"How much further, Matt?" She asks nicely. "We're close" He says and begins to walk towards it. "Any fighting and I'm putting you two in a time out. Understood?" Y/N says firmly, to the boys warningly and they nod curtly before following begin Matt. "Are you gonna spank me too?" Dean whispers for only her to hear and she whips her head to him, surprised.
A wicked smirk on his face and she rolls her eyes. "Keep it up, I just might Winchester" She retorts scoffing and walks ahead of him. Deans eyes linger to her hips swaying a bit and his heart quickens. They walk a little further in and are greeted by the sound of many insects and bugs chirping, crawling and flying around.
"I've been keeping track of insect populations. It's uh, part of an AP Science class" Matt explains. "You two are like peas in a pod" Dean says to Sam. Y/N shoots him a warning glare and he puts his hands up in surrender chuckling. "What's been happening?" Y/N asks Matt. "A lot. I mean, from bees to earthworms, beetles...you name it. It's like they're congregating here" Matt explains.
"Why?" Dean asks. "I don't know" Matt says. "What's that?" Sam asks, pointing to the patch of area where it's brown, no grass growing. They all walk up towards it to see a bunch of earthworms and Dean presses his foot lightly against it, causing it to sink down. He picks up a stick and pushes it into the hole, digging around and tapping a bit lightly on something solid.
"There's something down there" He says, looking at Sam and Y/N. He puts the stick down and pushes his hand on. They resists the urge to gag as he does so. "Come on. Come on." He grunts, trying to pull whatever it is up. He grabs a hold of it and pulls it out. Revealing a human skull. He looks back at Sam and Y/N who has disgust etched on their faces.
________________________________
They all left Matt in the woods to do what he does and now ended up at a local university to do some research on what they found. They all exit the Impala, Sam coming out of the drivers seat after parking. Y/N takes the box out of the backseat with her and Sam throws his jacket onto to cover it.
"So a bunch of skeletons in an unmarked grave" Sam says as they walk towards the entrance. "Yeah, we'll maybe this is a haunting. Pissed off spirits...some unfinished business" Dean suggests. "Yeah, maybe" Y/N nods in agreement. "The question is, why bugs? And why now?" Sam asks rhetorically.
"That's two questions" Y/N says sarcastically and they chuckle. "Hey, so with that kid back there...how could you tell him to ditch his family like that?" Dean asks Sam. "Just, uh, I know what the kids going through.." Sam says. "How about telling him to respect his old man? How's that for advice?" Dean says a bit brashly.
"Dean come on" Y/N warns him and he sighs. "This isn't about his old man. You think I didn't respect Dad. That's what this is about" Sam says knowingly and Dean pauses, having been caught. "Let's forget it alright. Sorry I brought it up" He says, trying to change the subject. "I respected him. But no matter what I did. It was never good enough." Sam says frustrated.
"So what are you saying? Dad was disappointed in you?" Dean says. "Was?" Sam chuckles dryly. "Is. Always has been" Sam states. "Why would you think that?" Dean asks exasperated. "Because I didn't wanna bow hunt. Or hustle pool. Because I wanted to go to school and live my life. Which, in our whacked out families, made me the freak" Sam rants.
"Yeah, you were kind of like the blond chick from The Munsters" Dean cracks a joke and Y/N shakes her head. "Dean, you know what most dads are when their kids score a full ride? Proud" Sam whispers the last part. "Most dads don't toss their kids out of the house" Sam says hurt and Dean nods. "I remember that fight. In fact, I see to recall a few choice phrases coming out of your mouth" Dean says.
Sam nods, chuckling humorously. "You know, truth is, when we finally do find Dad and Mr. L/N , I don't even know if dads gonna wanna see me" Sam says with a sad smile on his face. Y/N felt a pang in her chest when he said that, wanting to tell him it's not true but also feeling like she doesn't have a place in this conversation, she puts her hand on his shoulder comfortingly and he gives her a sad smile before she drops her hand back.
"Sam, Dad was never disappointed in you. Never. He was scared" Dean assures his little brother. "What are you talking about?" Sam asks him confused. "He was afraid of what could've happened to you if he wasn't around. But even when you two weren't talking...he used to swing by Stanford whenever he could. Keep an eye on you. Make sure you were safe" Dean explains to Sam.
Sams face drops. "What?" He asks surprised. "Yeah" Dean nods. "Why didn't he tell me any of that?" Sam asks. "Well, it's a two way street, dude. You could have picked up the phone" Dean says and Sam swallows the lump in this throat, staring down sadly. Y/N notices the time on her watch, feeling a bit bad for having to interrupt them.
"I don't mean to interrupt your moment fellas. But we're gonna be late for our appointment" She says gently. "Yeah...let's go" Dean says, flashing her a small smile, he takes the box of stuff from her hand and walks to the entrance. "Sorry Y/N, we didn't mean to drag you into that" Sam apologizes sincerely.
"Hey hey, we're family" She says gently with a small smile in her face. Placing her hand back on his shoulder, "I of all people know that you two have got some stuff you need to work out. Don't apologize for anything ever. Im always here" She assures him and he smiles at her sadly.
"Thanks y/n/n" He says gratefully, giving her a hug, wrapping his arms around her shoulders. "Anytime Sammy" She says, wrapping her hands around his waist, patting his back. They let go of their hug and walk towards the entrance.

"So you three are students?" Professor Reardon asks them, now in the lecture hall. "Yeah. Yeah. We're in your class. Anthro 101?" Sam says to the professor. "Oh, yeah" The professor responds as if he knew, which he didn't recognize them but went along with it. "So, what about those bones professor?" Dean asks.
"This is quite an interesting find you've made" Professor Reardon compliments. "I'd say they're 170 years old, give or take. The time frame and the geography heavily suggest Native American"  He tells them and Dean looks over at Sam and Y/N surprised.
"Were there any tribes or reservations on that land?" Sam asks confused. "Not according to the uh...historical record. But..the uh relocation of native peoples was quite common at that time" The professor explains. "Right. Well, are there any local legends? Oral histories about the area?" Y/N asks curiously.
"Well...you know, there's a Euchee tribe in Sapulpa. It's about 60 miles from here. Someone out there might know the truth" The professor tells them. "Alright" Dean nods smiling.
________________________________
They follow the professors advice and go to the Euchee Tribe's grounds in Supulpa. Approaching a man directs them where to part and they approach a cafe. Inside is the tribes leader, and elderly Native American man with long grey hair, sitting at a booth, playing solitaire.
"Joe White Tree?" Sam asks the man at the booth and he nods in confirmation. "We'd like to ask you a few questions, if that's all right sir" Y/N says sweetly, a pleasant smile on her face. "We're students from the university" Dean adds.
"No, you're not. You're lying" Joe calls Dean out on his lie, stunning the group. "Um...well truth is-" Dean stutters but Joe cuts him off. "You know who starts sentence with 'truth is'? Liars" Joe says bluntly, playing his card game. Dean looks over at Sam and Y/N, both suppressing their amusement.
Sam sighs "Have you heard of Oasis Plains?" He asks. "It's a housing development near the Atoka Valley" Y/N adds and Joe looks at them and back at Dean. "I like them" Joe says. "They're not liars" He adds bluntly making Dean slightly roll his eyes uncomfortably. Y/N chuckles a bit along with Sam while she places her hand on Deans shoulder comfortingly.
"I know the area" Joe tells them, nodding. "What can you tell us about the history up there?" Sam asks. "Why would you wanna know?" Joe asks curiously. "Something...Something bad is happening in Oasis Plains. We think it might have something to do with some old bones we found there..Native American bones" Y/N explains to him sadly.
Joe nods sadly, thinking a bit before telling them. "I'll tell you what my grandfather told me. What his grandfather told him. Two hundred years ago, a band of my ancestors lived in that valley. One day, the American cavalry came to relocate them." He begins to explain and the three share a look.
"They were resistant...the cavalry impatient. As my grandfather put it: 'On the night the moon and the sun share the sky as equals...the cavalry first raided our village. They murdered, raped. The next day, the cavalry came again. And the next and the next. And on the sixth night, the cavalry came one last time. And by the time the sun rose....every man, woman band child still in the village was dead' " Joe tells the story and the three begin to grow a bit uneasy. The story breaking all their hearts.
"They say on the sixth night...as the chief of the village lay dying...he whispered to the heavens...that nonwhite man would ever tarnish this land again. Nature would rise up and protect the valley. And it would bring as many days of misery and death to the white man as the cavalry brought upon his people" Joe finishes telling the story and something clicks in Y/N head.
"Insects" She says turning to the boys. Deans eyebrows quirk up. "Sounds like nature to me" He says. "Six days?" Dean asks Joe. "And in the night of the sixth day...none would survive" Joe says, going back to his card game.
They thank Joe for his time and exit the cafe. "When did the gas-company man die?" Sam asks. "Uh...let's see. We got here Tuesday, so Friday the 20th" Dean informs him as they walk to the Impala and once again, Y/N realizes something. "March 20th. That's the spring equinox" Y/N tells them.
"The night the sun and the moon share the sky as equals" Dean says and Sam huffs. "So every year about this time, anybody in Oasis Plains is in danger. Larry built his neighborhood on cursed land" Sam says ironically. "And on the sixth night, that's tonight" Y/N says. "If we don't do something, Larry's family will be dead by sunrise" Sam says as they go to their respective doors by the car.
"So how do we break the curse?" Y/N asks Dean. "You don't break a curse. You get out of its way. We gotta get those people out now" Dean says urgently, they all jump in Baby and make their way back to Oasis Plains in a hurry.

Now rushing down the street in the Impala to Oasis Plains, Y/N is on the phone with Larry Pike, pretending to be from the gas company. "Yes, Mr. Pike. There's a mainline gas leak in your neighborhood" She says urgently into the phone. "God. Really? How big?" Larry asks worried.
"Well. It's fairly extensive. I don't wanna alarm you but we need your family out of the vicinity for at least 12 hours. Just to be safe" She lies. "And who is this again?" Larry asks suspiciously. "Tara Weaver. I work for the Oklahoma Gas and Power" She tells him.
"Uh-huh. The problem is, I know Tara. She's worked with us for a year. So who is this" Larry demands, catching onto her lie. "Uh..." She stutters, hanging up the phone and tossing it aside. Sam sighs in frustration. "Give me the phone" He tells her and she hands it to him.
Sam dials Matt's number into it. "Hello?" Matt answers. "Matt. It's Sam." He tells him. "Sam. My backyard's crawling with cockroaches" Matt says panicked. "Matt, just listen. You have to get your family out of that house right now. Okay?" Sam instructs him quickly. "What? Why?" Matt asks confused.
"Because something's coming" He tells him honestly, looking over at Dean and Y/N. "More bugs?" Matt asks. "Yeah. A lot more" Sam confirms. "My dad doesn't listen in the best of circumstances. What am I supposed to tell him?" Matt asks. "You gotta make him listen. Okay?" Sam instructs him causing Y/N and Dean rolls their eyes.
"Gimme the phone. Gimme the phone!" Y/N orders her best friend, leaning over the seat and snatching the phone from him. "Matt! Under no circumstances are you to tell him the truth. He'll just think you're nuts" Y/N says into the phone, her voice laced with authority. "But, he's my-" Matt goes to argue but Y/N cuts him off.
"Tell him you have a sharp pain in your right side and you gotta go to the hospital. Okay?" She tells him. "Yeah. Yeah, okay" Matt breaths out reluctantly and Y/N hangs the phone up. Dean looks over to his little brother disapprovingly. " 'Make him listen.' What are you thinking?" He retorts while Sam smirks, shaking his head.

They park infront of the Pike residence to see the lights on and the cars still in the garage. "Dammit. They're still here" Y/N groans. "Come on" Dean says to them and they exit the Impala, walking up to the front door but Larry sees them from his window and comes out of the house.
"Get off my property before I call the cops!" He yells at them, pointing his finger towards them. "Mr. Pike. Listen-" Sam tries to reason but Matt cuts him off. "Dad, they're just trying to help" He tries to tell Larry. "Get in the house!" Larry commands his son. "Sorry. I told him the truth" Matt says apologetically.
"We had a plan, Matt. What happened to the plan?" Y/N grumbles. "Look. It's 12 am. They are coming any minute now. You need to get your family and go. Before it's too late" Sam warns Larry. "Wait no. You mean, before the biblical swarm" Larry says sarcastically.
"Larry, what do you think really happened to that realtor? Huh? And the gas company guy. You don't think something weirds going on around here?" Dean tells him. "Look. I don't know who you are, but you're crazy. You come near my boy or my family again, we're gonna have a problem" Larry threatens them.
"Well I hate to be a downer. But we got a problem now" Y/N says firmly. "Dad, they're right. We're in danger" Matt tries to warn his dad but he turns back to him angrily, "Matt, get inside! Now!" He yells at Matt loudly. "No! Why won't you listen to me!?" Matt screams back frustrated. "Because this is crazy! It doesn't make any sense!" Larry shouts angrily.
"Look, this land is cursed. People have died here! Now are you gonna really take that risk with your family!?" Sam yells at Larry, now irritated. "Wait" Dean says, they all hear the rumbling of the bugs. "You hear it?" Y/N asks Larry. "What the hell" Larry says confused and the bug zapper behind them on Larry's porch goes off continuously.
"Alright, it's time to go Larry. Get your wife. Yeah" Dean orders Larry and he runs up the porch. "Guys?" Matt draws their attention to the swarm of bugs flying towards them. "Oh my god" Larry says, stunned. "We'll never make it" Sam says. "Everybody in the house. Everybody in the house. Go!" Dean yells, and they all run into the house.
"Is there anyone else in the neighborhood?" Y/N asks as they close the door behind them. "No, it's just us" Larry tells him. "Honey, what's happening? What's that noise?" Larry's wife, Joanie, asks. "Call 911...Joanie!" He yells at her. "O-okay" She says panicked. "I need towels" Dean tells Larry urgently. "The closet" He says and goes to get them.
"We gotta lock this place up. Come on. Doors, windows, the fireplace, everything" Y/N tells Sam and Matt, running up the stairs to do as she said. "The phones are dead" Joanie tells Larry and Dean fearfully. "Must've chewed through the phone lines" Dean says as he lays towels down under the cracks of the door.
Suddenly the electricity goes out. "And the power lines..." Dean adds. "Maybe my cell.." Larry says, running to grab his phone. "No signal" He says. "You won't get one. They're blanketing the house" Dean tells him as the bugs cover the windows outsides, cluttering at the windows.
Sam and Y/N come back downstairs while Matt grabs onto his mom, clutching at her side. They watch as the bugs crawl on the windows. "What do we do now?" Larry asks them. "We try to outlast it" Y/N says lowly. "Hopefully, the curse will end at sunrise" Sam says.
"Hopefully?" Larry asks panicked. Dean goes into the kitchen to see the bugs cluttering at the kitchen window. He runs below the sink, hoping to find bug spray. He eventually finds it, popping the top off and goes back into the living room. "Bug spray?" Joanie asks bewildered. "Trust me" Dean says.
They hear a creaking sound coming from behind them. "What is that?" Matt asks. It sounded like it was coming from the fireplace. They inch closer and closer. "The flue" Y/N says. "Alright. I think we need to get everyone upstairs" Dean says and then a loud bang comes from the fireplace.
Bugs swarm from out of it by the thousands. Larry and his family scream in fear. Y/N grabs the canister of bug spray from Dean and pulls out her lighter. Flicking it open and spraying the bug spray into the flame, making a makeshift flame thrower. "Everybody upstairs! Now! Go go go!" She yells and they all begin running upstairs in panic and fear.
She uses the fire to clear a path so they can go upstairs quickly. They go up to the attic. Sam locks the door behind and Y/N uses the fire to shun most of the bugs out. "Oh god, what's that?" Joanie asks fearfully, seeing dust from the fall. Sam, Dean and Y/N move closer to see. "Something's eating through the wood" Y/N says. "Termites" Joanie says fearfully.
"Alright. Everybody get back. Get back!" Dean orders them. "Get back!" Larry tells his son and wife, shielding them with his body. "Matt!" Joanie calls out worriedly for her son. The wooden roof them breaks down a hole causing thousands of termites to fly in and swarm them. Y/N uses the bug spray and lighter to spray fire at them.
While Sam goes and get an old electric panel door and Dean grabs a long piece of wood. "Dean you got it?!" Sam asks Dean. "Yeah. Go, go, go!" Dean screams and Sam uses the panel door to block the hole while Dean uses the stick to hold it up. They hear another side of the roof breaking and Y/N sprays the bug spray into the lighter again to fire at them.
The Pikes are screaming as the big fly all about them. More of the wooden roof breaks and Y/N sprays it in all directions but the big are growing more and more. Suddenly they start to fly back outside, confusing everyone. The boys and Y/N walk slowly to the exposed roofing to see that the sun has risen meaning the curse has been lift.

The next day, the trio pull up to the Pike Residence to see moving trucks outside. Getting out of the vehicle, Dean jokingly says "What? No goodbye?". Larry spots them, "Good timing. Another hour and we'd have been gone" Larry say, reaching out to shake Deans hand gratefully. "For good?" Y/N asks.
"Yeah. The development's been put on hold while the government investigates the bones you found. But I'm gonna make damn sure no one lives here again" Larry informs them, determined. "You don't seem too upset about it" Sam says. "Well, this has been the biggest financial disaster of my career but somehow.." Larry begins and looks back at Matt carrying a box and smiles looking back at the hunters
"...I really don't care" He tells them and they smile. Sam goes over to talk to Matt, to see him at the dumpster throwing away all his bug stuff. "What's this?" He asks surprised. "I don't know. They...kind of weird me out now" Matt says smiling and Sam chuckles. "Yeah, I should hope so" He says laughing.
Meanwhile Dean and Y/N are at the Impala leaning against it while Sam and Matt chat. Dean notices the look of despair on Y/N's face and nudges her a bit. She looks up at him with a tight smile, "You're doing great, you know that?" He assures her. "What?" She asks confused. "This job. You're doing great. I could only imagine how amazing you did on your own. Your dad is proud of you too" Dean assured her and she shakes her head.
"I appreciate that Dean. Even if I don't believe it" She smiles softly at him. "You better believe it princess" He smirks, nudging her again. "Shut up charming" She chuckles, nudging him back jokingly biting her lower lip to stop herself from smiling. Dean notices this and his eyes dart down to her lips. Y/N couldn't help but trail her eyes down to his.
"When we do find our dads...I just wanna give them a hug" Y/N says looking down. Dean sees her frown, his heart breaks seeing her so sad and he wraps his arm around her, pulling her into his shoulder. "Fuck I sound like a little bitch" She chuckles dryly. "No you don't. Hey look at me" He says gently and she looks up at him, her gaze filled with sorrow.
"You're great too, Winchester" She says sincerely clearing her throat, pulling her eyes away from his lips. He smiles at the compliment. "Not as great as me though" She adds cockily, flashing him a wink and he rolls his eyes in fake annoyance causing her to laugh more. "Shut up, Princess" He grumbles jokingly.
Sam walks back over after his conversation with Matt and leans next to Y/N on the Impala. Dean and Y/N only notice Sam when they feel the weight on Baby shift and let out of their side hug. "I wanna find our dads" He tells them. "Yeah me too" Dean says.
"Same here" Y/N adds. "Yeah, but I just...I wanna apologize to Dad" Sam says and Dean looks over at Sam. "For what?" He asks and Sam takes a deep breath. "All the things I said to him. He was just doing the best he can" Sam says and Y/N nods agreeing. "Me and you both" She says looking down.
"Don't worry guys, we'll find them. And you two will get to apologize" He says to them. "And then within five minutes Sam and Dad will be at each others throats" Dean adds making Sam and Y/N laugh. "Yeah probably" Sam says laughing. "You too Princess. I think I'm gonna need to get a crowbar to separate you and f/n from clawing at each other" Dean tells Y/N jokingly and she laughs hysterically.
"Bite me, charming" She counters laughing. The three share a lengthy laugh before sobering up. "Let's hit the road fellas" Y/N says. "Let's" Dean says and opens the back door for her, gesturing for her to get in. She dramatically gasps and he rolls his eyes. "My oh my. Such a gentleman. Are you gonna paint my nails next?" She jokes, wiggling her eyebrows and getting in.
"Sure. What color would you like? Bubblegum pink or lavender purple?" He retorts back sarcastically in a high voice, locking the door, a tinge of pink growing on his cheeks and Y/N and Sam laugh hysterically. Shaking his head. Stubborn asses. Sam thinks to himself. Sam gets in and Dean gets in the drivers seat and they're off.

Happy Birthday!
Castiel, with the best of his knowledge, celebrates your birthday with you.
Tumblr media
The days with the boys are so busy that you nearly forgot your own birthday. All the monsters, ghosts, and demons made your lives busy. Even Sam and Dean don’t really take time to celebrate a birthday.
“You came out of your mother’s vagina years ago...we don’t always have to celebrate it.” Dean told one year when you brought up your birthday. After that, you just kind of let it go till the days just blurred together and you really didn’t think about your birthday. Well, even if you did care to remember, the boys certainly wouldn’t care to celebrate.
But one person did.
You guys walked into the bunker after a hunt, Dean teasing Sam about how the monster was “into him”. The monster was a succubus mind you. Laughter filled the area as for once there was a bit of relief in the air. Everyone came home safe. But one person was missing.
“Hey, where’s Cas?” Sam asked to change the subject. You all looked around in confusion before Dean just sighed.
“It’s Cas. We never know where he is.” Dean said before disappearing into the kitchen.
“I’m going to my room.” You told Sam when he looked back, wondering if you were going to join them. After he nodded, you moved down the hall and towards your room. This once, you actually did remember your birthday, and you were just a little bummed that the boys didn’t even think to say anything.
But hey, they were hunters. Little did you know the surprise you were about to walk in on.
All was quiet when you got to your door, which you didn’t think anything of because it was your room. Hand on the doorknob, you opened the door, revealing your semi-dark room. The sight of someone in there nearly made you scream until you recognized the stranger.
“Castiel!” You whisper-shouted in shock, gripping at your chest.
“Surpr-um-” Castiel struggled with the little confetti popper. A few seconds passed and he finally was able to get the thing to pop, rainbow colors and the smell of smoke filling the room.
“Surprise.” He was finally able to say with a smile.
Still in shock, you looked around at your room, which was a bit different than you left it. A small thing of Dollar Store bought balloons was tied to the end of your bed. On your bedside table was a little cupcake that had a candle in it. It was all very small, but it also seemed to be filled with a lot of love.
“What’s all this for?” You asked once your senses aligned. Walking over, you took in everything. It seemed the angel did this all by himself given how little of everything there was.
“Your birthday. I’ve always wanted to celebrate one.” He said with glee, putting the empty popper aside as he watched you.
“How did you even know today was my birthday?” You asked him while sitting on the bed. The angel folded his arms behind him and gave you a proud smile.
“I did some extensive digging in order to find this out. It took a lot of time and skill to do that.” Castiel told you, but you simply nodded with a slight grin.
“You looked it up.”
“I looked it up.” He confessed like a child, a frown coming to his face as his arms fell to his side. You just giggled before he joined you on the bed, sitting right beside you. Looking at the cupcake, you grabbed it and laughed a bit.
“No cake?” You said, knowing that was a little more traditional. He looked away a bit.
“I dropped it...it got a little smushed...had to improvise.” Castiel explained himself and you still laughed. It was both humorous and thoughtful, and you still loved it regardless. You set the treat back on your bedside table.
“Thank you...I wasn’t expecting much for my birthday.” You said to him and he gave you a confused look.
“I thought humans celebrating their birthday was a regular thing.” He said and you smiled a bit.
“I suppose angels wouldn’t celebrate birthdays...You would have over a thousand of them.” You said with a giggle and Castiel agreed with you. As you guys sat there, the air felt a little tense. Normally, all four of you were together, but now it was just you and the angel.
“It’s also hard for me...your birthday.” He suddenly said and you looked at him oddly. Castiel swallowed nervously.
“I don’t like seeing you age. It’s just a reminder that you’re human...and you won’t live forever.” Castiel said and you frowned at that. Angels live such long lives compared to humans. He would see you, Sam, and Dean (depending on the situation) die before him. Even if you guys had normal lives, he would still outlive you. It was a sad thought indeed, and not one you wanted to think about on a day that was normally reserved for celebration.
Luckily, he spoke up.
“I got you something...but you need to blow out your candle first.” He said with a tiny smile, fiddling with his hands while trying to lighten the mood. A little bit flustered, you grabbed the cupcake and blew out the candle, silently making a wish with a blush on your face.
You were thankful that the angel couldn’t read your mind.
As you were doing this, he was fishing around for something in his pockets. After you set the treat aside, a small bit of smoke coming from the candle stick, you noticed Castiel was waiting for you. He had a tiny box in his hands with a bow on it.
“Cas...you didn’t need to get me anything.” You told him, feeling a bit embarrassed by this. However, he just shook his head.
“I wanted to. It’s your special day after all.” He said while you took the box from him. Upon opening it, you realized it was a necklace. It was silver and your name was the centerpiece, and two little angel wings encased it.
“It’s also warded for protection. It should help keep you safe on hunts.” He added as you observed the gift.
“Oh it’s beautiful...I love it.” You said, beaming as you moved to put the piece of jewelry on you. You don’t know where Castiel got this, but it was very thoughtful, nonetheless. After you finished, you noticed there was a small note in the box. Upon reading it, you were rather confused.
“Look at me...?” You read it out loud but obeyed. Looking at Castiel resulted in one quick motion from him.
A small, sweet kiss to your lips.
“Happy birthday Y/N.”
From then on, you always looked forward to your birthday. It may be a reminder to Castiel about your aging, but at least he was always around to celebrate it. And on the plus side, he was always happy to try, in his own way, make it a big deal.
Who needed anyone else when you had one of the world’s best angels to celebrate your birthday with. He even got a cake once and the boys actually joined in.
And he made sure to not drop it this time.
