I wonder how Gaon and Yohan are going to explain the change in their interactions to Elijah, since it's going to be obvious to her that something has happened between them. Since Elijah knows that there's nothing between Gaon and Soo hyun, I wonder if she will play a role in clearing Yohan's misconception? Thanks for the update! I can't stop thinking how many ways this story can play out😅 Btw i really appreciate the time and effort you put into responding to our questions with such detail.
That definitely depends on who's doing the explaining xD Yo Han would just brush it off and pretend that nothing is happening — which would just piss her off — while Ga On would make a stilted effort to explain without making it too obvious what it's actually about. Which would also annoy her.
That poor girl, seriously. She doesn't deserve to get caught between these two idiots.
I'm not sure I agree that Elijah "knows" that there was nothing between Ga On and Soo Hyun, though. I think she very much thinks there was something between them. I mean, sure, they denied it when she asked if they were dating, but THE WAY they did so was pretty telling (especially in Soo Hyun's case). Even more so since Elijah is a bit... well, innocent? I think most of her experience with love comes from media, books etc. and how Ga On and Soo Hyun behaved is, well, straight from a drama xD
And Elijah also had that talk with Soo Hyun when they were eating ice cream on Ga On's terrace, where it became pretty obvious that Soo Hyun is in love with Ga On and has already confessed to him several times.
So I think Elijah very much believes they were in love. Which means she won't really play a role in convincing Yo Han otherwise — if asked, she'd probably only make it worse, even. Because her understanding of love is a bit superficial and probably pretty geared towards straightness. That's not to say that she's not aware of gay people (I think she might actually know more about that than Ga On does xD) but from the evidence she's seen both Ga On and Yo Han seem straight to her (because I can't imagine that Yo Han has flaunted his dalliances with other men in front of her).
I know I'm very, very firm about this but Elijah doesn't know that Yo Han and Ga On have the hots for each other. And not because she's stupid, but because she's grown up in a country where straightness is the norm and Yo Han has done everything he can to hide the depth of his and Ga On's relationship from her. Also, she's a self-centred teenager x'D
Like, take me for an example. I was around 23-24 and very comfortable in my own pansexuality but was still IN NO WAY PREPARED when my mum basically went: "I may only have had sex with two women in my life but, let me tell you — 10/10, would recommend." Because I had only ever seen her date and talk about men before and therefore assumed she had no interest in anything else. That's how easy it is to miss that someone close to you isn't entirely straight — especially if it's a parent/guardian.
So I really don't think that Elijah would notice until it gets a lot more obvious than this xD
Which wasn't technically what your ask was about (sorry for the tangent xD), but still important to know because Elijah really won't be all that helpful when it comes to Yo Han and Ga On figuring out their feelings for each other. In fact, she might just end up making things harder for them without meaning to. But more about that in later chapters ;)
ANYWAY. Thank you so much for the lovely ask! I'm so happy to hear that people are this excited and involved in my story! And, tbh, I can't help replying because I'm very excited, too, and love talking about my writing, my thoughts, and my takes on these characters. How could I resist? More often than not, I have to cut my answers short because I keep writing longer and longer ones.
Like, you guys have no idea how long the first drafts of my author's notes usually are. One time I had to cut half of it because it was reaching truly spectacular lengths. And sure, I know that some of you probably wouldn't complain if I had posted that first draft, but I'm trying to contain myself, okay? And also not reveal too much since it might end up spoiling future plot points. It's a constant struggle.
So yeah. I'm actually consciously holding back a lot of the time because I'm trying to not come off as completely unhinged x'D

i love the "doing this" scene in spies are forever a lot because i love reversal of the compulsory romance trope but also cause of the way it portrays "let's just be friends" as not something throwaway but actually gives the gravity that the concept of "friends" has. this is the point when they decide they actually want to work together, not out of obligation or repaying a debt or societal convention, but because they actually respect each other as people. the entire romantic exchange that they have is loaded with societal convention. they have opened up to each other a little bit - but the moment the song starts they are back to wearing a mask, hiding their true intentions almost as much as when tatiana hid her true intentions of betraying curt back in the casino. it's back to societal conventions and the closeness that they have built up dissipates. the romantic exchange could play out completely without them actually getting closer emotionally, and they could go their separate ways the next day. but it all changes when they decide to be "just" friends. curt's "friends?" question is open and hopeful - the first genuine bid for closeness in the whole scene. can we talk about the line "it's great to know we don't have to pretend". that's the whole scene right there. having to pretend to be interested in a romantic relationship got in the way of them being genuine and actually getting closer. can we also talk about "you're cool with me?" "till the end" because its just a really nice line and i love it. anyway, i just love that in this scene friendship is not just a throwaway byproduct of getting romantic advances rejected but actually something that is deeply important to the characters. curt having tatiana's friendship is a key turning point in the whole play for him to start moving on from his past. i love it when friendship is important!!!

No more Tanjiro making Inosuke better, I want Inosuke to make Tanjiro even weirder. Inosuke convincing Tanjiro to howl at the moon with him in the middle of the night, Inosuke getting him to wear his mask for the hell of it, Inosuke teaching him some really impractical grooming rituals and stuff like that. Tanjiro loves it bc he’s already a weird little guy!!!!!

I think something very interesting I’ve seen Twst fans(myself included) have been noticing a lot more lately is like, the true nature of the characters and their environments.
Like a lot of the characters are cool and even good people. Sometimes, however, it sets in again that they are supposed to be based on villains of the Disney franchise. If not directly related to them within canon. So characters, from NRC specifically, tend to be more morally ambiguous in their ways and even have some darker pasts revealed. That I’ve personally sometimes forgot to take into consideration.
Again, a lot of these story elements are very much products of their environment. Despite the whole villain thing being more of a generational archetype in my opinion, a lot of the characters still very much grew up with them. Like in comparison to RSA, where they have more of a goody goody vibe. NRC is the flip flop to that, more than just aesthically.
It makes a lot of the characters not only very sympathetic when their struggles come into play, relatable/angsty when you realize not everything’s black and white. But you’ll also encounter the occasion when you’re kinda forced to realize like “Woah you aren’t actually the greatest person.” Less in a ‘completely irredeemable’ way, but more so in a ‘you’ve made mistakes and choices in the past that I don’t agree with’ kinda way. Very reminiscent of how obey me characters are written. Which personally, I like because they end up feeling more fleshed out and complex because of this.
At the end of the day sometimes you’re just reminded that the main characters in Twst are still very much based on, or closely related to villains. However, I really like how they’re written because instead of making it a straight segway into evil and angst city. They’re written to just be…people. People who grew up around these things but still make their own choices and are their own person. And for those who have no choice but to fall into the archetype it’s so cool seeing how they interact, and possibly grow/develop moving forward with your help and others. Even with the relapses in behavior and bad habits they may still have.
The whole culture, fantasy, humor, and world building of it all is just super interesting and it’s why I fell so hard for the series in the first place. It may be based on a preexisting franchise, but the way the concept and everything in between is handled is just such a treat.
Edit: (Possible spoilers‼️This may or may not be in reference to the Halloween event, and the discussion surrounding it recently. Idk it’s just like to me I see both sides of the coin. Like yes, the characters based on villains that also happen to reside in a related setting obviously may do questionable things. However, I also understand the notion of not wanting people to be ignorant to that and just fully accept what has been done. A lot of people, including myself, are very much in the neutral ground where we accept what went down, realize the flaws, and move forward with that. I’d rather have a flawed character than a spotless and perfect one, cause at least then they have room to grow and interchange as the story does the same. Which is something we can only hope for as more chapters roll out.)

Me, a physically disabled (high support needs) neurodivergent (mid to high support needs) person: Hey, my neurodivergence IS extremely disabling in a way that a lot of you say "isn't possible" and also my physical and neurological disabilities often combine in ways that can't be separated and produce symptoms that are new or of added severity for me.
Responses I've gotten from disabled exclusionists (some of whom are also both physically disabled and neurodivergent):
"What drugs are you on, you delusional freak?"
"I've never experienced this and therefore you're a dirty lying physically abled neurodivergent person who just wants to be more disabled and oppressed than you are. My experiences are universal and anyone who has different experiences is a lying liar. No one can ever prove otherwise because my axiom is that anyone who claims otherwise is lying."
"The ableds are at it again."
"Sit down and let the REAL disabled people talk."
"You're never allowed to find similarities between disabilities that are of different types, even ones you have, and if you do you're actually the reason why accessibility is such an issue because conflating them is why ableist doctors don't give us what we need and why society thinks medical gatekeeping is good, actually."
"If you're that suicidal do us all a favor and kill yourself."
This is without even getting into stuff about how disabled labels often apply differently to systems. The big discourse now is "nonverbal" labels for headmates who are permanently, always nonverbal, primarily by people and systems who refuse to view systems as anything but "parts" of a single person. Which is funny to me because ah yes, we have actual studies showing physical disabilities such as allergies can apply only to individual headmates, but gods forbid you apply a neurological label to someone whose brain activity is not only visibly different on scans from yours, but to the extent that it changes your entire shared physical body!
Like here's a novel idea: maybe we could just stop policing how other disabled people talk about their disabilities forever! Maybe we could blame any and all harm done even from the unicorn-rarity "actual fakers/liars" (also don't think I don't see you being ableist against people with actual diagnosed that cause compulsive lying) on the ableists DOING the harm because it's actually perfectly possible for them not to cherrypick our words and listen to the MAJORITY of us!
Maybe, just maybe, we could form a coalition, focus on the REAL enemy (ableist medical professionals and lawmakers) and push for actual change for ALL of us!
