his hugs will be gentle but so warm
bear hugs>>>>
his huge ass hands will totally go around your neck for comfort
he also digs his face into your shoulder
he paints many things for you
like he’ll also give you his unfinished projects when he’s sick of them
shines when you compliment him
teaches you choreos and lets you make up some
dyes your hair often too
spa nights where its just the two of you with a movie of your choice in the bg
those are the days where you can just. let go
tea gets spilt. i mean like, you know absolutely everything abt the other atp
spontaneous karoake nights
he gets worried when you drink tho
’noooo what if you fall on your face and then it gets ruined!!’
when he’s tired or down tho
one of the members text you and you come over with your comfort box you packed for these situations
face masks, iced americanos, watermelons, fluffy blankets, llama eye masks for sleeping, an air purifier, room spray, and a huge hoodie and sweatpants/shorts bc he probs did NOT shower in his funk
when he goes home you take walks together and catch up
also you just. really like smelling his room
it smells like flowers and the perfume your late grandfather used
gifts you things from versace
his favorite colors are black and white; yours are brown and grey
picture wall of polaroids w photos u took together
you stream his music 24/7
he writes sad sad songs abt missing you
worse than hannie and his break up songs 😭

Jake pensively hit the backspace button on his phone's touch pad.
He knew at the back of his mind that he should be telling you this in person.
The swing of the break room door broke him from his stare at his screen.
"Anyways, we're going on a date next Saturday to the aquarium in the city," Bradley said with a small lopsided smirk as he walked in with Natasha and Javy.
"What's this I hear about Rooster finally getting a woman to go out with him?"
Rooster flipped Jake off as he got his lunch from the fridge, making Natasha let out a small laugh, and Javy quirk his lip.
"So what's her name, how'd you meet her?"
Bradley closed the fridge with a click, striding towards the table Jake was settled at.
"Her name's Ella, she's a grad student at UC San Diego. Met her at that coffee place you recommended last week, got her number, and have been texting since."
He flashed Jake a grin.
Jake furrowed his brows, a soft hum leaving his lips.
It couldn't have been your Ella, could it? UC San Diego was a big school, there was definitely more than one Ella there.
Soon Javy and Phoenix joined them at the table.
"What?"
Rooster broke him from his deep in thought glance as he softly stirred the left over beef stew.
But at this point, he couldn’t stomach the previously delicious stew you made for him. It only served as a reminder of what he was about to do, and for what he didn’t have the courage to do.
"Nothing, Caledonia has a friend in her grad program named Ella."
Bradley’s lip quirked.
“Cali is biochem, right?”
Jake nodded.
A soft hum left Bradley’s lips, “Yeah, that might be the same one. So, noticed you’ve been spending a lot of time with her lately, what's the deal?”
Jake felt his heart freeze.
He shrugged, nonchalantly, trying to exude that same Hangman confidence and bravado.
“Nothing too serious, just helped out with a few things Penny asked me to do for her.”
Natasha almost bent her fork in her hand as his words registered.
Did he not know how much he meant to her?
Jake could feel her piercing stare, but chose to keep his attention on Bradshaw.
Javy’s gaze was more marked with the subtle signs of pity as he worked his way through his wrap.
Jake couldn’t decide which one felt worse.
Rooster took a bite of his lunch, “ya know, I’ve been meaning to ask, why do you call her by her full name?”
Was it getting hot in here? He wouldn’t be surprised if the answer was yes, considering the time of year.
If Javy hadn’t known him all these years, he would have missed the flash of panic behind the thick curtain of confidence that was slowly becoming a thin veil.
He shrugged, “I was always taught to treat women that give me booze with the utmost respect, hence the full name.”
Bradshaw nodded, letting his eyebrows raise, “But what about Penny? You call her Pen all the time.”
Natasha smirked slightly around her forkful of lunch.
Jake swallowed, “Well, that’s different… I’ve known Penny for a lot longer than Caledonia.”
Rooster leaned back, furrowing his brow, and biting the inside of his cheek.
“Ok, but why did you leave the Hard Deck with her last week?”
Jake took a deep breath, “She needed help with her car before she headed home. I was at the bartop paying my tab and Penny asked me to help her. What is this anyway? An interrogation? You gonna ask me about every woman I’ve talked to?”
Bradshaw smirked, “Just curious, Bagman, no need to get defensive,” he put his hands up in surrender, thoroughly enjoying seeing his former rival riled up.
Javy bit back a smile.
"Yeah, Bagman, don't need to get your panties in a bunch."
Natasha smirked as Jake shot her daggers.
"If I were wearing panties, they would be the most unbunched pair you'd ever seen."
Jake grumbled, sending a glare to his teammates as they laughed and snorted.
“Plus, it’s not that way with her. We’re just friends.”
Jake took a spoonful of stew, purposefully avoiding his colleagues unimpressed glances.
“Right.”
Jake glared as Phoenix took a bite of her sandwich.
“Alright, I think that’s enough teasing. Can’t waste all our material in one day.”
Javy shot him a wink as Jake flipped him off, his remaining colleagues breaking into soft chuckles.
The topic was diverted to the back burner for the time being, to the point where Jake forgot about the text he planned to send.
Conversation flowed from when the new recruits were coming in, to summer plans, and to different get togethers on weekends planned within their friend group.
A small sense of panic ran through him as Phoenix suggested that Caledonia be invited to all of their summer plans. Including their Barbenheimer-themed pool and BBQ party in July.
He guaranteed Caledonia wouldn’t want to come if he was there after the message he was typing out was sent.
Soon it was time to wrap up and head back out to the briefing room and get ready to fly in the latter portion of the day.
Jake took one last pensive glance at his phone.
This is better. For the both of us.
Jaw tensing, he pressed send.
He cleaned up the rest of his lunch and left the breakroom in a silence coated by the soft buzzing of the overhead lights and the impending crack of broken hearts.
A sigh left your lips.
How could you have been so stupid?
You should have read the label more clearly before measuring it out.
Your mind swam with detrimental thoughts of the days failed experiment.
The cells you spent the previous day growing were wasted when you accidentally put too strong of a solvent after the cells were centrifuged.
It also didn’t help that Ella was away presenting at a conference at the other side of the country.
Frankly, you just wanted to go home, take a nice shower, nestle into your sheets, and forget about the frustrating day you got out of.
A sigh left your lips as you settled into the drivers seat of your car, feeling your frustration dissipate from your body, and be quickly filled with exhaustion.
You bit the inside of your lip as you waited for your phone to turn on and see any messages you missed.
The thought of texting Jake to see if he wanted to come over crossed your mind.
A small smile formed at the thought.
Message from well-fed raccoon :) not downloaded.
You opened the app, tapping on his contact icon.
Your brows furrowed, heart plummeting to the deepest parts of your chest.
We shouldn't do this arrangement anymore. I'm sorry.
You couldn't help but read over the two sentences. Over and over again. Hoping, praying, that they would be something different.
A rattled sigh left your lips, letting your eyes clench shut, and head hit your seat.
Tears pricked your eyes. A dribble quickly turning into a torrential downpour.
Soon, your car was wracked with the repeated, frenzied collisions of your head against the upholstery of your driver's seat.
You stopped with one final hit of your head against the faux leather portion of the head rest, feeling your scowl morph into a groan ridden scowl.
Why the fuck did this have to happen?
What was wrong with you?
Not only did you have to worry about attracting someone, but now you had to worry about keeping them.
Was it your weight?
Your busy schedule?
Did he find out about your depression? Anxiety?
You did your damndest to ensure that Jake knew nothing of that part of you.
Your lip quivered as you broke into a sob marked by wails and sniffles, no different from that of a wounded animal.
God, you couldn’t help but feel that this was coming.
This arrangement; it was all too good to be true.
You scoffed through your tears.
You shouldn’t have been so stupid.
He was called Hangman for a reason.
Your virginity. Your very first experiences with sex.
Your eyes shut as you realized the gravitas of this risk, only sobbing harder.
What if he had only wanted you because you’d never been with anyone else?
This was absolutely devastating.
The world was crashing down around you. You couldn’t breathe with how hard you had started crying, unable to help the feeling of violation that invaded your veins like a poison, turning your blood to a thick sludge, making your heart beat like an engine in overdrive to compensate.
In your blurry eyed, emotionally compromised state, you only wanted to hear one voice.
Penny’s.
She’d understand.
You didn’t want to explain to your mom that you developed a ‘situationship’ with a deadly man and that it bit you in the ass. Hard.
The familiar rumble of the engine filled your car. You swiped away at the continuously flowing tears and mustered enough energy and a sliver of mental clarity to get home safe.
“Hey, Cali, how was-”
Penny’s word died on her lips.
The sunny San Diego weather backdropped your teary, red eyes and cheeks, curled lips, and tears streaming down your pretty face.
“Oh, sweetheart,” she strode towards you, encasing you in a hug as you reached out to her, “what’s wrong?”
You sniffled, burying your face into her sweater-clad shoulder.
“Sweetheart, I can’t hear you.”
You lifted your head from her chest.
“Jake doesn’t want me anymore.”
Penny’s heart broke at the sight, gently pulling you back to her, wrapping you in her embrace as sobs wracked your body.
Her heart continued to crack for you with each sob and gasp you let out, gently running her hand through your hair.
You tried not to think about how Jake would do the same thing when he kissed you.
He used to bring you so much joy, but now you felt hypersensitive to even the thought of Hangman.
Touching you.
Speaking to you.
Looking at you.
How he cuddled with you when you slept over that one night.
How he made breakfast with you the next morning.
How he knew your favorite flavor of gelato from Francisco’s.
How he bought you $300 worth of sex toys.
Was this all some kind of sick game to him?
It made your breathing difficult and skin crawl.
How could you have let someone in so close, and know every inch of your body?
“Shhh, Caledonia, it’s ok… let it out.”
Penny knew that Hangman had a reputation. Anyone who frequented the Hard Deck knew that.
But she saw the way he looked at Caledonia when she was busy preparing drinks. Or when she was fixing the juke box. Or wiping down tables.
Penny’s hope for the relationship to succeed was overshadowed by the bubbling sense of anger in her belly.
How could Hangman do such a thing to you?
What was your situation with him exactly?
She continued to soothe you.
“Cali, I’m so sorry… would you want me to call Ella to come over?”
You shook your head, “Ella’s at a conference, and I don’t want to make her worried,” the lump in your throat evident with each break from sniffling.
Penny’s eyebrows furrowed.
You didn’t tell your bestfriend, because you didn’t want to worry her?
Hangman was such an asshole for letting you go.
To both himself, and you.
“Ok, I’m going to call Halo and Phoenix and see if they can come over. Ok? Would that help?”
You nodded, lip quivering as another round of sobs made your body crumple against hers.
“What am I," sniffle, "supposed to do now?”
Your sob-ridened words made Penny’s heart ache as she watched the bright, beautiful, smart girl she knew be deduced to a sobbing mess.
If she could help it, Hangman wouldn’t be allowed to step foot into her bar without being overboarded.
So she did the next best thing; holding you in her open doorway as you sobbed into her knitted top.
“It’s ok, sweetheart…shhh… it's going to be ok.”
That only made you cry harder.
Jake’s front door opened with a click, taking his shoes off with a soft thud, not bothering to arrange them on the floor with the rest.
He went through the motions of preparing dinner; the last remaining portion of the beef stew you made him.
His jaw tensed at the sight of the transparent hazel and oak bark brown stew staining the sides of the plastic container on the counter.
How was it so easy for something to go from warming the deepest darkest parts of his soul to being the equivalent of lead, coating his insides and making it hard to breathe?
Shouldn’t I be relieved?
Just as he suspected, the stew didn’t bring him the sense of comfort it did only a mere few days ago.
He sighed, languidly twisting and turning his spoon in the stew, moving the typically delectable sauteed mushrooms and tender beef around.
Now they just made his stomach churn.
Maybe it wasn’t ever the stew itself that was warm and comforting.
Maybe it was the fact that you were the one who made it.
You.
He continued to absentmindlessly stir, the familiar jingle of keys near the front door meeting his ears.
“You’re home late.”
Jake’s seemingly dulled down tone made Javy furrow his eyebrows as he continued to undo his shoes.
“Picked up something for Delilah.”
Jake only gave a small hum.
“Everything alright?”
Jake took a deep exhale, avoiding his wingman’s gaze.
“Yeah,” he coughed,” yeah, I’m fine just tired.”
Javy stared as he trudged towards the stairs, his bowl of half finished left on the table.
His all too familiar air of confidence was elsewhere.
As Javy heard Jake’s door shut, his phone buzzed.
Phoenix: We need to talk. Can you meet at the Hard Deck tomorrow?
Jake couldn’t take his eyes off the ceiling as he laid on his bed.
He should feel relieved.
Relationships were never his strong suit, meaning he avoided them like the plague.
He’d done it once, and never again.
It was too…painful. Heart wrenching. Traumatizing.
One-night stands were easier. Always easier.
This arrangement was supposed to be just that.
He’d help you out, teach you the ropes and then wish you luck on your future relationships.
That was it.
He was supposed to move on with his day without seeing things in his everyday life and not think about you.
Not think, “Caledonia would love this”, or “ This would make her smile.”
You weren’t supposed to have an infectious smile, or a laugh that made him wish for glimpses of a future together, or be able to moan and whine so prettily that he would drown in if he could.
Your lips weren’t supposed to be soft. Or sweet. Or pretty.
Hell, you weren’t supposed to look as beautiful as you did in that velvet dress at Admiral Cain’s retirement ball. Or as you walked towards him in his booth at Fransisco’s. Or as you opened the door when he was supposed to teach you how to give a blowjob. Or as you stood before him in front of the mirror in the dressing room of Pleasures of the 3rd Kind.
Or when he first saw your body without the hindrance of clothes.
But the state of dress, or undress, didn’t change how he saw you.
It was all you.
You.
He could feel his heart beat faster and cheeks heat as reminisced on his moments with you.
But those moments seemed to dwarf in comparison to his moments with you outside of your lessons together.
Getting gelato together.
Playing cards with Amelia.
Making up a story to get a 15% discount on sex toys.
Slow dancing with you.
Feeling your lips on his cheek.
Your soft, tender kisses.
Your warm, safe, secure hugs.
Your infectious, warm laugh that made his chest explode with warmth.
How you cared for him so effortlessly.
The fact you took time out of your busy schedule to care of him when he was sick.
He hadn’t been taken care of like that since he left home.
Those moments made him feel some sliver of deservance of your affections. Of your devoted, unconditional love.
He wasn’t supposed to feel this way.
He was supposed to be able to move on with his life, like with every one-night stand he’d been with before.
Say goodbye to you after he ‘hit and split,” and never think about you again.
Or to never feel the need to think about you again.
It should have been a relief, cutting off this arrangement with you.
But it wasn’t.
And he’d have to live with that.
The fact he was stupid enough, scared enough, and selfish enough to let you go.
To not tell you what he needed to tell you.
Jake could feel his ill placed relief morph into a deep rooted sadness in his empty chest.
Like a spoon scrapping the inside of a pomegranate until there was nothing but rind.
A rattled sigh left his lips, feeling a lump in his throat begin to settle.
What am I supposed to do now?

Mike and Phoenix were laying in bed together after hooking up for the first time. Phoenix had watched some gay porn to get himself ready but it wasn’t the same. They went with their gut feeling. Having it be awkward just made it more special. They were able to laugh about it. They had taken each other’s virginity, or that was how it felt. Mike didn’t know how big he was until he had him in his mouth. They took turns in different positions until they were both satisfied.
He rinsed his mouth out with water before coming back to bed. After laying in bed for a while, they got up and got dressed. I love you. Mike loved him too. The experience was magical. They had chemistry they had never discovered before. It reminded him of the night he and Brie slept together for the first time. She had been a virgin but she had chosen him because she felt safe with him.
Now, she was his wife. When he got home, he found her fast asleep. It was almost seven in the evening, so he figured she had taken a longer nap than planned. He went downstairs to feed the dogs and make himself something to eat.
She finally woke up around nine. He looked at the time in confusion. It was time for bed and she was just waking up? He sat on the bed beside her. She wasn’t feeling well, so she went to lie down. What was wrong? She just felt nauseous but she was feeling better. How did it go with Phoenix? It was better than he expected. She sat up. Her beautiful hair was all over the place. She found a hair tie and pulled it back into a ponytail.
“I don’t want to know how that… worked.”
He laughed. “We’re going to take a break for a while, so I can discover who I am. Thank you for letting me do that.”
“You’re welcome. I don’t fucking care, again if you’re gay or bisexual. I’m not leaving you. I just want the same thing that I’m giving you and that’s an open marriage.”
He nodded and promised to give her that. Was she hungry? Always. He laughed and helped her out of bed. What did she do while he was gone? She tried making herself something to eat but she became too nauseous and couldn’t stand the smell of food. So, she went upstairs to lie down. She answered some text messages before falling asleep. So, she didn’t do much.
That was fine. She was supposed to be resting anyway. They went through the refrigerator until they found something she was craving. He heated it for her. While she ate, they talked about his day. It was nothing unusual. Brad thought Rob was having a hard time with his depression. What was going on? He had moments where he didn’t think he was good enough to be in the band and he beat himself up when he made a mistake. Brad was going to talk to him.
She kind of remembered him having depression when she was younger. He nodded. Rob was sensitive. He just didn’t show it as much as Chester did. When they were in the studio, he practiced up to eight hours a day, every day. He was that hard on himself. Anyway, Brad was going to talk to him in private about their concerns. She asked to be kept updated. He promised to do that.
Yeah, their concerns were justified. He admitted to having trouble with his mental health. Ever since he was a teenager, he had moments where he was too hard on himself. He was on medication, which helped level his brain chemistry but it wasn’t a cure. Brad reminded him that the only person who didn’t think he was good enough was himself. They loved him as their little brother and they would never think he wasn’t good enough. He thanked him for that reminder.
Mike and Chester were with Brie at her checkup. The twins were growing and developing the way they were supposed to. They could see them on the screen moving their arms around. Oh my god! One of them opened their mouth like they were yawning. Mike was already in love with them, as was Brie. The miracle of life. Watching them was like watching fish swim back and forth in a large aquarium.
There was something so magical and relaxing. Did they want to find out the gender of their babies? Yeah. The technician moved the wand around to get a good look at the genitalia. Girls. Chester put his hands up in the air in happiness. Finally! They laughed. Twin girls. The technician asked if he had boys. Yeah, he had four of them. She congratulated him on his girls. Thank you! Mike laughed. He didn’t care about gender because he would love them the same regardless.
It just meant a lot more pink, princesses, tea parties, dresses, and whatever else little girls liked. He would teach them how they deserved to be treated by men and boys. That was with respect. The girls would be best friends from the beginning. His mother was going to be overjoyed to have granddaughters!
She was going to want to buy everything girly. After getting into the car, she called her mother to let her know about the appointment. Patti was very interested in hearing how things went. Everything was perfect. They got to see them moving around on the monitor. Did they find out the genders? Yeah, they were having twin girls! She took a moment to process that.
“Oh my goodness!”
She laughed. “Chester was very happy to learn that! Mike is neutral.”
“Oh my goodness! Congratulations! I’m going to have to tell your father!”
Brie wiped her tears away. After the phone conversation ended, Mike asked if she was okay. Oh, yeah. She was just going through hormones. What did her mother say when she found out about the genders? She was so excited, it was adorable! He laughed. She was going to tell the whole world. That meant family and friends. His mother was going to be the same way.
He planned to come out to his parents before the baby shower. After taking time to think about who he was, he came out as gay. Brie and Phoenix supported him. He decided he couldn’t give her what she wanted because he wasn’t sexually attracted to her. Even though he would always love her, it just wouldn’t be fair. With that, they agreed on an open marriage. They came up with rules and boundaries. He had to be tested every three to six months for HIV.
Unless Chester had the twins, she wanted him home at least two to three times a week to help her out. They also had to text each other about where they were going, if they were having someone over and when they were leaving, or if they were staying the night. He thought those were more than reasonable, so he agreed to them.
He thought about another rule. Once the twins became older and more aware of what they were doing, they could not bring partners home with them and they would not meet any partners until they officially started dating. She agreed with that decision because she heard stories about children being abused by the people their parents brought home with them. Okay. He hugged her happily and kissed her forehead. They said I love you before going into the kitchen to make dinner.
Though they were no longer in love, they were not ending their marriage. They were still best friends, who had become roommates. She was and always would be the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Nowhere else would he find a more patient, caring, and supportive wife. He didn’t want to look for another woman because he had her right in front of him.

Never-Ending Adventure (Christen x reader)
Tumblr media
Request: R is allergic to animals and she really wants a pet. So the team get her a pet rock from amazon. But let’s be real Ashlyn loses it (ash and ali are her team mom) and everyone is trying to find it while Christen takes her on a date to keep her busy while they look for it
Author’s note: Special thanks to @literaryhedgehog
“What do you mean you lost Fred?” Christen hissed up the stairs at Ashlyn and Pino, from where they had gotten her attention. All three women glanced back to the kitchen, where you were putting groceries away, but since you hadn’t reacted they returned back to the matter at hand.
“It was an accident. He just disappeared,” Ashlyn mumbled miserably, her hand scrubbing down her face. One second your beloved pet had been tucked safely inside her suitcase and the next he was gone.
“He’s a rock. It’s not like he can walk off on his own,” Christen ground out, gritting her teeth. It didn’t matter if Fred couldn’t love you back, you were attached to the googly-eyed rock and his painted face.
“I would like to remind you, I advocated for her getting her a pet fish in the first place. You can’t be allergic to fish dandruff, and fish are harder to lose track of than a piece of stone.” Tobin added, coming up behind Ashlyn. You were deadly allergic to animals but insisted you wanted a pet. The team had compromised and gotten you a pet rock off of Amazon as a joke.
“But that’s not the point,” Pino said quickly before Christen could respond. “We know you just got back from getting groceries but we need you to take Y/N on a date until we can find Fred.”
“You want me to distract her so you two can figure out how to replace Mr. Flinstone before she notices?” Christen asked, quirking her eyebrow up. The two of you were in a weird place between friend and girlfriend, but neither of you had made a move yet per se. Doing it to save the team's ass seemed like a stretch.
“Why do you think we asked her to come downstairs and put groceries away when it is clearly Sonnett’s turn? We’re stalling for time!”
“Here,” Tierna said, stuffing a book into Christen’s hands, “One of the coaches’ kids was selling these coupon books for a fundraiser. You can use the different activities in there as inspiration for where to go.”
“And whatever the coupons don’t pay for we’ll pay you back. Promise,” Tobin said quickly.
“You and y/n need to get your stuff together and become a couple anyway…” Pino added with a wave of her hand. Christen sighed, squeezing her eyes shut.
“Fine. But only because I know Y/N would be really stressed out if she found out Fred was gone.”
“Thank you thank you thank you! Okay, you go in and we’ll get started.” And with that Christen was shoved back into the kitchen.
****
You were having an amazing time. Your lunch date with Christen had turned into a walk in the park, a coffee, and now a casual stroll through the aquarium. You had always been interested in marine life, and you were having a blast nerding out. (Christen also thought your fun facts about each of the animals was adorable- well the way your face lit up when you rambled was).
“So are we heading to another random location, or is it safe to go back to the house yet?” You asked with a smirk, stepping through the shark tunnel towards the reef fish exhibit.
Christen froze, where she was looking at the lionfish tank. “Is… this your way of saying you don’t know any facts about lionfish?” she said, evasively. Fuck. She thought she was being more subtle than that.
“Well, lionfish inject their venom through the spines in their back. When the skin over the spike gets pushed down, it pushes in the venom sack. Fun fact, the spine is like a hypodermic needle,” You said, pointing out the spikes you were talking about and staring wistfully into the tank.“But you’ve been checking your phone since the stingrays, and I’m guessing it’s because we’re more than halfway through the aquarium,” You finished, looking pointedly at Christen.
“Maybe… I was checking to see if we had enough time before the aquarium closed to eat dinner at their seafood restaurant?”
“So… they’re taking way too long to set up whatever prank they’re planning,” You nodded.
“Why do you think someone’s setting up a prank?” Christen said, laughing in a super believable way. Wow, she was bad at this. “Hey look, are those clownfish?”
You raised your eyebrow at the woman. Emily, Ashlyn, Pino, and Kelley all in one house just spelled trouble. It was more probable they were setting up some stupid stunt to video for the fans than them just hanging out like normal people and watching a movie. Also, the fact that Christen had been taking you on different adventures for close to five hours now was suspicious.
“I know you probably just did this because you got roped into whatever stunt they’re planning on pulling on me, but I had a really nice time with you today,” you said, looping your arm through hers, and leaning ahead on her shoulder. Christen straightened up slightly at the touch. “If you were actually serious about that dinner I don’t mind paying.”
“My suggestion, so I’m paying and I was totally serious. I didn’t just ask you out because of those knuckleheads. I like you too,” Christen said soft, gripping your arm a little tighter, trying to convey just how much she wanted to be here.
“Okay, if you’re sure. Hey, want to take a selfie together in front of one of the tanks? you know to commemorate our endless adventure?”
“Yeah, I wanna remember the never-ending date forever,” Christen said, her eyes a little gooey at your cuteness, pointing towards the octopus tank.
You pulled her close to you, angling the camera so the blue-ringed octopus was in the shot. And just as you clicked the button, you stood up quickly on your tiptoes to kiss her on the cheek. You also took a shot of the laughter that followed. The one of her turning to kiss you was a bit more of a blur though.
***
“Oh, before we go, can you grab one of me with the Red-sea rockfish?” You asked, pointing at the redfish in the tank.
“Yeah, sure!” Christen took your phone from you and swiped it to get to the camera, almost missing you reaching into your pocket and pulling out a small painted rock.
“Okay three, two- wait, is that Fred!?!”
You lowered your hand from where you had posed with Fred next to your cheek. “Yeah? I had him in my pocket this morning, so I didn’t lose him while I cleaned my desk, but forgot about it until we were about to go through the metal detectors a few hours ago. Why?”
“I’m pretty sure Ashlyn has the entire team scouring the house to try and find him,” Christen snorted, shaking her head. It was hilarious you were nervous about them pulling a prank on you when it seemed you had pulled an even better one on them.
“Oh,” you said. Some things were beginning to make sense now. “So you’ve been checking your phone so they could tell you when it was safe to come home? Once they found Fred?’
“Maybe...” Christen said blushing just a little bit.
“Okay. Well, you’d better call and let them know you found him. After we get ice cream.”

Tumblr media
July 7th, 1985 (One year later).
So much had happened in the space of a year. You’d gone from being an Amazonian Goddess, haunted by the voice of a man from a far off world, to destroying the God of Lies for good, and discovering the beauty in true love. You still kept the crumpled up polaroid of Alistair and Maxwell that you’d taken back when he invited you into his home, last July. It had proven to be a better good luck charm than your tiara or lasso; and it served as a constant reminder of home.
Because home wasn’t Themyscira anymore. It was wherever Maxwell and Alistair were.
“And over here we have a vast collection of quartz! It’s usually mined in Brazil, and it’s the second most common crystal in the world.” Maxwell explains, using the most outlandish hand gestures everytime he speaks. He always spoke with his hands; even when he was on the television. You guessed that some things just didn’t change.
You watch him from afar, unable to contain the smile on your lips. His eyes sparkled and gleamed like diamonds as he gave facts about each of the gemstones he presented.
Black Gold had become an extension of the Smithsonian’s paleontology and gemology department, just like you had planned with Diana. When she had sorted it all out, and you broke the news to Maxwell, he was overjoyed. He hadn’t lost the business he’d worked so hard on, it had only been replaced by something even greater. And he couldn’t have done it without you. He’d spent so much of his life searching for happiness— looking in all the wrong places.
Through meeting you and gaining full custody of his son, he learned that success wasn’t money or wealth or having a solid career. For him, success was family. And he wouldn’t have it any other way.
His eyes caught you standing in a shadowed corner. Alistair was holding your hand, and in your free arm, you were cradling your three month old daughter. He knew now, he’d finally found his happiness. He smiled over at his little family and you shot him a kissy face, giggling when you noticed the rose coloured flush that crossed his cheeks.
You and your little family waited for Maxwell to finish his tour guide of the museum, admiring his work ethic. You were so grateful that he was able to adopt his superb salesman skills and apply them to a profession he was truly passionate about. He’d always loved rocks and gems and stones, even having his own collection at home. But this… this was infinitely better than drilling oil and accidentally scamming millions across the globe. Maxwell was putting genuine smiles on people’s faces, kids too, and that in itself was a beautiful thing.
Once the tour group disbanded, Maxwell was quick to run over to you. He took your daughter from your arms and pressed a kiss to your forehead.
“I missed you,” you smiled, watching as Maxwell fussed over his daughter. “How was work?”
Maxwell’s dark eyes met yours and he beamed with delight. “Oh it was fantastic,” He grinned before excitedly telling you all the details about his day at work. He knelt down to Alistair’s level and ruffled his son’s black hair. “Did you enjoy visiting the aquarium with mommy?” he asked.
“It was amazing!” Alistair squealed, sharing the same excitement as his father. It was unbelievable how much Alistair was growing to be a Mini-Max.
Maxwell checked his wrist watch and gasped when he saw the time. He called Raquel over, who had agreed to watch the kids this evening while you and him had ‘date night’. It was a rarity for sure, and neither you or Max liked to be without your children, but tonight was extra important. It signified exactly one year since you entered Maxwell’s life and changed his world forever.
Once it was just you two, Max couldn’t keep his hands off you. “You look beautiful.” he grumbled, pressing kisses along your jaw and down the column of your neck. His large hands roamed your body, paying extra attention to your breasts. Clearly, he didn’t care if anyone was looking. You giggled and slipped out beneath him.
“Save something for tonight.” You laughed, rolling your eyes and taking his hand.
Tonight.
You had no idea what was to come.
“I’m sorry it’s not Greece,” Maxwell chuckled, reminiscing on your first holiday together (if he could even call it that). It was quite an unconventional one— as he’d never expected to go cave exploring with two Amazonian Godesses’ and kill a God. You laughed, rolling your eyes.
“It feels like yesterday,” you admitted. “Leaving Themyscira… giving up my powers. I can’t believe it’s been a year.”
Maxwell nodded knowingly. “Tell me, princess, if you could go back and change things, would you?”
You’d thought about the question numerous times. You did miss your mother, and the beautiful tranquil oceans of your home world. But if you could change things— would you? The answer was simple.
“No.” you beamed brightly, pressing your lips together.
“Good.” said Maxwell. He gestured a waiter over and ordered a bottle of the finest champagne.
Things had been a little rough for Maxwell, after the dreamstone debacle and all. Inevitably he had to sell his white suburban mansion, as he didn’t really have the steadiest of incomes rolling in. But in a way, he was relieved. He didn’t need all that space anyway, and actually he’d really come to like the much cozier apartment where you, him and Alistair were living now. But with a little one on the way, you had both been discussing the prospect of finding a place with an extra bedroom.
He was happy with his job at the Smithsonian. He was passionate about it too, which was the main thing. He was still a businessman , but a much nicer one. After all, the oil-mogul Max Lord was long gone, and had been replaced by a darker haired, sweater-wearing Maxwell Lorenzano. You had no complaints.
“Here’s the thing,” Maxwell announced, straightening his composure after you’d both finished dinner. “And there’s really no easy way to say this—“
You giggled, scrunching your nose up with curiosity. “Spit it out Maxie.”
“I’m in love with you,” Max revealed, brushing his thumb over your knuckles tenderly.
You nudged him playfully. “I know that, silly,” you laughed. “I’m in love with you too. But tell me, what’s really on your mind.”
Maxwell stiffened slightly. It was now or never.
“You have shown me so much kindness, and you’ve shown me hope when I didn’t believe things could get any better. You made sacrifices for me… for my family. Gave up your powers and the chance to see your own mom again. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to make your decision worthwhile but I’ve known for a long time now that— I at least want to try. I don’t ever want to stop loving you. I want to be with you… forever. For the rest of my life. An eternity. Because you make me happier than I ever thought I could be,”
Tears pricked your eyes at Maxwell’s sentiment, your heart clenching with adoration in your chest.
“And with our family growing, and the possibility of getting a new house, I just… I want to know. I want to know if you’ll be my wife and— if you’ll marry me?” he finished, a hopeful glint in his chocolate brown eyes.
You couldn’t rid yourself of the smile that crossed your cheeks. “Yes Max,” you cried, leaning over the table and wrapping your arms around your fiancée. “Yes I will marry you.”
—————The end.

Glad you're back!! Miss you! I see about your post, can I have some modern AU maybe of Human! Alastor x reader going to an aquarium? Maybe a cute date? Haha thx amazing to have you again
(( QwQ/ It's good to be back! And I would be honored to do that. I had a lot of fun with this. I hope you enjoy!!))
It was hinted with salt filling the air. Misty and warm, the summer sea winds rolled off the coast and into your hair. The Long Island sound was picture perfect, just as you remember in your childhood dreams. You were staying in a quaint little town your familly use to visiting summer after summer when you were a child. And it was the perfect place for you to bring yourself on a long over due vacation. Work had been too much to handle this past year, and now you could spend the next week relaxing on the soft sandy coastal beaches of Long Island.
However today you had plans to take the ferry across the sound to the aquarium. Sure... you were going by yourself but... So what. You didn’t particularly have many friends, nor a partner in your life. But so what? You were an introvert natrually and a social gathering over five people where never your thing.
You had just made it to the ferry docks. As always, you were fifteen minutes early. You couldn’t bear to be late, especially since you considered “on-time” to be late. You were sitting on a public bench facing the sound. Dozens of other people have started to gather around the same place as you. You were just about to take one of your favorite books out of our bag when someone approached you.
“Do you mind if I sit?” You saw a man standing before you. He had a pleasant smile. A soft one that just barely met his eyes. You took one second too long to peer at him.
“Uh-...” You tore your gaze from his soft brown hair and to his polished shoes. They were out of style yet he somehow managed to pull it off, “Yea-.. I mean no...! Help yourself.” You tried to return his smile but you were far more awkward about it. This man had some strange sense of fashion. He looked oddly in place, however, he seemed like he was trying to live in a time long since past.
“Are you waiting for the ferry too?” He asked, making simple conversation to fill the void of silence.
You glanced at him quickly a second time and made a nervous little laugh. His dark complexion matched his brown eyes hidden behind perfectly circular glasses, “Oh... yes.” You remember you had your ticket in your hand, “It shouldn't be much longer until it arrives,”
The stranger nodded his head slowly, “Have you ever been on a ferry before?” You nodded your head to his question, “Ah, first time for me. They don’t have ferries where I’m from.” He said with a cool expression.
He seemed chatty for a stranger. Most of the time when strangers tried talking to you, you’d brush them off. But this man was lucky that you thought he was rather... stunning in the looks department. That, and he seemed rather harmless as of right now. So you indulged in his conversation, “Where are you from?” You asked.
The man paused only slightly then turned himself to face you. He held out his left hand for you to take. You were hesitant but you still reached out, “Alastor,” He said, “I’m from New Orleans. I’m guessing you’re a local?” You wouldn’t have ever guessed that, he didn’t have any kind of southern twang or drawl to his tone.
You shooked his hand but you couldn’t stop yourself from laughing a little at his question, “No, no,” You waved your hand a little, “Uh- aha... I’m (Y/N). And I’m not from here, but my family and I use to come here all the time for summer vacations.”
“Well, it’s certainly a lovely place to visit. I’m here for business though so I can’t say I’ve gotten the real experience of it all yet. Today was my day off, however, and I thought I’d go see this aquarium one of my friends keeps telling me to go to. She’s rather annoying about it, truly, spoiled even and quite the nagging little thing. But she is my friend after all and I’d rather not deal with the consequences of not listening to her.”
There was a moment there went you felt your heart stop for a minute, “That’s... really ironic.” You said slowly.
“Oh? You have a bossy friend too?” He jested with a smile.
You laughed for a second then shook your head, “No, I mean that it’s ironic that you’re going to the aquarium,” You paused for a second then reached into your bag and pulled out your phone. You showed Alastor and said, “I’m going too.”
He peered at the e-ticket on your phone, the pushed his glasses up on his nose with a deep laugh, “What a small world!” He laughed, then laughed some more, “How truly ironic indeed!” Then without a second to waste, he faced you once again then asked, “Would you like to go together?”
The question startled you. You didn’t expect that. He was very bold, wasn’t he? You had only just met and he was asking to spend probably what would be the rest of the day with you. You were flustered suddenly, then you were tongue-tied, lastly, you cracked your voice as you answered, “S-Sure! Yea- um--....” You felt your cheeks turn a little pink, “Sorry. It’s just... That was unexpected.” Just as you said that the loud horn of the ferry screamed as it pulled into the docks.
Alastor stood up while smiling down to you, “Life wouldn’t be life if what you expected happened all the time.”
He then held out his hand, offering to help you up from the bench. You took a moment, sitting there and taking everything in for what it was. Alastor stood before you, looking as though he was some kind of mathematician, or professor, now that you got a good look at him. His red tie was tucked behind a brown sweater vest that stopped just shy of his belt. His hand was offered to you, while the wind dusted his brown hair around in the breeze. And that smile on his face, it was soft yet firm enough to show that he was pleased to help you up.
So you decided then... why the hell not? He was right, life wouldn’t be the same if it was exactly like what you expected. You took Alastor’s hand and pulled yourself to your feet. The two of you chatted while boarding the ferry, and then stood beside each other while leaning along the guard rails of the top deck.
The both of you talked about all kinds of things. You found out that Alastor was some kind of internet personality, not really. He had a podcast he ran and owned with some friends of his. It was apparently very popular and well known, though not that well known because you’ve never heard of it before. And to say that didn’t hurt Alastor’s ego a little would have been a lie. Apparently, Alastor also had a strong taste for liquor, because at one point he went to the ferry’s indoor bar and came back with two rum on the rocks.
You told him it was only noon, to which he replied, “It’s five o’clock somewhere,” And laughed before taking a sip of his drink. You decided to have the one he got you and told yourself it’d only be one which Alastor stayed true to. He didn’t wander off for another drink once he finished the one he had. There was another point that you learned that Alastor had the habit of ignoring his phone, to the instance where he got annoyed with it and turned it off. It seemed he only wanted to focus on talking to you and listening to what you had to say.
Alastor and you talked the whole ferry ride, which was just under an hour long. And when you docked, you both walked side by side down the three and a half blocks to the aquarium. It wasn’t a massive place, but it was a good size with a decent amount of animals. You originally came here with the idea of looking for inspiration within sea life. For you were an author, after all, writing stories for a living came with its ups and downs. For instance, right now, your much-needed vacation wasn’t really a vacation. The current book you were working on took place in late century seaside town, much like this one. And you had run into the worse possible writer’s block you’ve ever been in.
As you and Alastor had finished passing the entry gates and showing your tickets, you wondered why Alastor would want to come here with you. Maybe because he realized how terribly awkward it would be if you continued to cross paths all day. You also thought about how you wouldn't be able to focus on working with him around now. You also didn’t really want to out yourself, or your current story.
But that would soon be unavoidable. You and Alastor had just made it to the open exhibits of the aquarium. You had stopped on an old wooden bridge to briefly look out at a beautiful koi pond. Alastor leaned over slightly while resting his arms on the bridge railing. He had a soft smile that was barely on his lips, “This one oddly reminds me of home,” He sighed.
You learned along the railing as well, looking over the swampy like pond. It lily pads all over, with a dark green water filled with dead trees and moss. You couldn’t see them, but you could hear the bullfrogs chirping away. Seeing it gave your a sudden surge of inspiration. Something about it made you get several ideas for your book. You couldn’t let them slip away, so you reached into your bag and grabbed your notebook.
While you became lost in your own world, scribbling down idea after idea, Alastor quietly watched you. It wasn’t in a way that you noticed, because he’d only take a side glance here or there. But after a moment or so, he finally asked, “Forgot something to add to your grocery list?”
It was meant to be a joke but it went right over your head (Mush to Alastor’s dismay).
“O-oh..” You then laughed weakly, “No... It’s for a story I’m working on.”
Alastor turned to face you slightly while still leaning on the rail, “Oh, like an author?”
You took a dry swallow then glanced away and shrugged, “Yea,” You didn’t want to egg him on. But of course, he asked anyways.
“Are you published?” He seemed genuinely interested. Yet there was a reason you wanted to avoid it. Oftentimes when you told people about your books, the general reception wasn't that good. There was a reason you wrote under a pen name.
However, Alastor wasn’t from around here, and you weren’t on New York Time’s Best Selling List yet, and probably never would be. So there was a chance he wouldn’t know or ever heard of your books.
So you took the chance and said, “Yeah. I’m the author of Sea Rise.”
“Oooh,” Shit. “That book series about the pirates?” Dammit.
You felt your cheeks burn as you took in a deep breath and nodded your head, “You’ve heard of them?” You wouldn’t look at him though. You just kept your gaze on some turtle resting on a log.
“Yeah, never read them,” He gave a slight chuckle, “But the girl I work with-”
“You said her name is Charlie, right?”
“Yes- Well, she reads ‘em. She’s a big fan. I’m under the assumption that it’s about fictional pirates?”
You took in a small breath then sighed, “Pretty much. It’s... not that amazing or anything. It’s okay.” You noticed that Alastor pushed off the rail and started to walk again, but slower this time.
“Tell me about it.” His words surprised you enough to look at him with a shocked expression. He laughed at you while giving a small wave of his hand, “Only if you want to. I’m sure you can’t talk much about spoilers.”
You blinked, then let out a shaky laugh, “I-I don’t know. It’s... A long story. This is for my fourth installation.”
He hummed with a slight chuckle, “Well it’s a good thing there is a snack bar over there.” He pointed to one not that far away, “And plenty of places to sit too.”
There was something that flickered around in your chest. You felt butterflies you always wrote about in your stories. You peered at Alastor finding it hard to stare at his face. You glanced up from his shoes and got caught in that tilt in his smirk. Heat ran to your cheeks and spread across your nose, you gave a sharp nod of your head then awkwardly stuttered out, “O-okay!” With maybe a little too much excitement. Who knew that today, of all days... You’d run into someone like him.

From Now On
Ok y’all, this is super long hahahahha I’m so sorry. Happy Gruvia Week 2021!! Here’s my contribution and I’m sorry but I don’t think I have the time to do more but I hope you guys like it anyway. I hope its not too OOC and if FT had more romance elements I believe this would be possible. Enjoy!
--------------------------- Gray tousled his hair and fidgeted around the entrance, feeling nervous about the day when it was only about 10 o’clock in the morning. Today, he told himself that he had to make sure things went well and most of all, to not take off any of his clothes subconsciously. For an ice mage, ironically he could not seem to get himself to calm down and stay cool about this. Regarding his first official date with Juvia, that is.
The 100 Years Quest was over and as promised, he spoke to Juvia about their relationship and how he was finally good enough for her. Despite the water mage’s disagreement to his initial beliefs and reasoning, she was elated that Gray formally addressed their feelings for each other. Furthermore, he initiated that they ought to have a proper first date that weekend itself.
He clicked his tongue briefly and frowned upon himself as he began to manifest in some thoughts to keep himself together. Why are you getting all nervous for! He ponders, his hands getting a little clammy in his pockets. Aren’t you the Gray Fullbuster, who bravely puts himself out for others and save the world countless times?
”Gray-sama?”
Before he could go on any further, a cute slivery voice interrupted his train of thought. Miserably trying to keep his cool, he spun around eagerly and was met with sapphire eyes that gave off a different vibe from her usual self. The said bluenette had her locks half tied and wore an off-shoulder dress that was not too revealing, similar to her nature. Accompanied with her outfit was a pair of kitten heels, some accessories and a subtle blush adorning her cheeks.
”Juvia is sorry for making you wait.”
For the majority, her outfit is considered simple and chic but for today, Gray thought she looked really, really good. Dammit, he gulped loudly as he felt his cheeks started to blush already at the sight of her. He knew that the water user was attractive, but it was beginning to sink in that he is now calling this beautiful person his. “Ah—um—” Gray fumbled and looked away, trying his best to hide the redness. “Shall we get going?” She simply smiled, gave a small chuckle and placed her left hand gently on his right arm (as if he could take more), indicating him to proceed to their destination. On their first date, Fullbuster had planned to go and visit the aquarium—because the water reminds him of Juvia, but he is never going to admit it—which was not too far off from where they were. It was a good walking distance, and they had a nice peaceful time on the way there. Despite saying that, he was worried as it did not seem natural for the bluenette to stay silent. Especially today, he expected her to be more excited and be all over him. As they arrive at the aquarium, Gray went over to the counter and bought a pair of tickets and made his way back to the front, where Juvia was waiting for him. As he carefully observed the water mage from a distance, he could see that she was looking down with an expression he could not seem to grasp. ”Juvia.” Surprised, she looked up hastily to see Gray back by her side. ”Is everything alright?” ”Juvia’s fine!” She exclaimed, quick to lighten up the mood. “She’s just... a little excited—as in, we’ve never done this before—but Juvia’s really happy!” She glanced at him timidly. “Also, Gray-sama looks dashing today.” For once with the determination of not stripping everything off, the ice mage did make the effort to dress well in a brown coat paired with a t-shirt and jeans. Albeit reddening slightly at her remark, he was more concerned on the fact she seemed to not be telling the truth. Here he was, blessed to have her despite all those years of constantly avoiding her advances—and now, when she is distressed, she was still keeping herself together to not worry him. His gaze soften as the guilt was slowly crept up inside him. Despite that, the said man tried to push the matter aside for the time being and wanted to make sure the day goes well. As of now, he knew that he needed to push himself more and step up his game. Once again, her eyes met with his onyx ones as he spoke quickly. “You.. you look good, too.” Juvia’s pupils dilated while Gray blushed furiously, frowning at how embarrassed he was over such a simple statement. It was a start, at least. He also noted on how she seemed to be elated from it. Before she could ask anything else, he took her hand in his and brought them into the aquarium. He could tell people were staring as the both of them were rather known after all they have done in Fiore, but screw it. Gray decided that it was not going to get in the way of his pride today if it could. Thankfully, the ice mage started to loosen up as Juvia gleefully looked at all the sea creatures that were present. When her beloved mentioned about this place, she gladly agreed because this place was known for breeding imported fishes outside of Fiore. The water woman, being part of the sea and occasionally swimming in it, found joy learning the names and characteristics of the animals she meets in the ocean.  “So these are angelfishes!” she exclaimed to Gray, as she lightly tapped on his shoulder while pointing at the said creature. “Juvia always sees them if she takes a dive into the ocean.” “Hmm,” Gray mused, acting disinterested. “What else do you normally see?” "Juvia’s seen all of these underwater because in this tank, all of them are common sea fishes.” “Isn’t that a bore?” The ice mage rolled his eyes. “We should go see something you don’t normally see—that’s what this place is for.” He smoothly took her hand in his and brought her along. Meanwhile, Juvia lightly blushes as she realised that this incident—Gray initiating the hand holding—has been happening a few times already. Every time she releases his grasp to point or walk towards a destination, the brunet would eventually put them back together again. She glanced at Gray who seemed to pay no mind to the matter as they visited the different tanks and places of the aquarium. Indeed, the bluenette was not complaining but a little taken aback. Is this suppose to be normal? She thought, as her imagination continued to spiral on. The smooth and sly Gray-sama was taking a little too much for her to handle—even from before! Eventually, her legs gave way and she started to lose her balance. Quickly, she placed her hand on the wall for balance which caused her footsteps to come to a halt and the ice mage to notice her situation. “Juvia!” He held her arms by the sides and shook her slightly in worry. “I’m right earlier, aren’t I? You really weren’t feeling good?” “Gray-sama...” He raised a brow in question. “Yes?” Juvia took a quick glance back at him before she burst into tears. “Gray-sama is too gentlemanly and sly today!” She wailed, half in distress and in joy. “First, he chooses to dress up and pick Juvia up at her place. Secondly, he complimented her outfit she took hours to decide and still felt it wasn’t good enough!” “Lastly, Juvia didn’t want to bother him and occasionally walks on her own, but Gray-sama keeps coming back, holding her hands gently and she’s too happy that she can’t walk straight anymore!” Full of emotions, she tried to control her tears as she quickly wiped some of it away. “Juvia’s not used to it Gray-sama. You’re being too nice and cool!” At this he flushed hard, did he really hold her hand so often? “Oi!” He panicked, his cheeks continue to redden in embarrassment at her bold statements of him. “D-don’t make sure a big deal out of it. I mean—like—just calm down!” With her loud voice, the people nearby saw and heard the context of the incident and lightly chuckled in amusement which caused Gray to be conscious with their surroundings and it made him uncomfortable. He quickly took her to an area with minimal crowd and dimmed lights to spare them from all the attention. He sat Juvia down on the nearby bench in hopes to calm her down as she sniffed softly. The ice mage took a moment to stare at the bluenette who was being all worked up earlier on. Gray’s eyebrows furrowed as he run his hand through his hair in exasperation before he sat down next to her. “Here,” A cold can drink grazed upon Juvia’s cheek gently. “Drink this.” She took it with gratitude and managed a few sips, a troubled look appearing on her features as she noticed her beloved looking away—clearly upset. The water mage frowned and looked down, tightening her hold on the can drink as she quickly apologises. “Juvia is sorry, Gray-sama. She should’ve known better than to embarrass Gray-sama in public,” Surprised at herself, she started to fumble. “Gray-sama doesn’t like attention and Juvia failed to see it. Juvia shouldn’t have been so swamped at her own giddiness, Juvia was too–” “Stop it,” Gray clicked his tongue in annoyance, his bangs covering his eyes. “You make me sound like a terrible boyfriend.” “Juvia didn’t mean—eh?” It took a moment before she realised what Gray has declared and took a small peak at him. “Did Gray-sama just say ‘boyfriend’?” “Aren’t I?” “Juvia didn’t expect you to say that out...” He scratched his neck nervously, his eyes looking away. “I mean.. I promised you didn’t I? I’m going to become a man good enough for you. If I can’t even say that out, I’m worse than flamebrain.” As much as she was feeling touched, she couldn’t help but worry. “Juvia doesn’t want to force you to change, Gray-sama.” “I’m not forcing myself.” “But Gray-sama kept forcing himself to make sure that we held hands—” “Because I wanted to!” Pupils dilated once again as she was struck with confusion. Fullbuster, flushed and embarrassed at what he just blurted out, grew annoyed at her denseness and tousled his hair once more before speaking up. “Dammit woman, why are you making me say all these sappy shit...” “Look,” He sighed before looking back at her once again, determined. “Every time we hold hands, I always try to play it cool but damn—it’s stupid to say this as a grown man but I get so nervous and happy about it. I kept wanting you close to me....” Gray felt annoyed at his frenzied heart as he continued to speak his feelings aloud. “I really want to be better for you, Juvia. I don’t want you to always make it easy for me. I want to return the favour back as much as I can.”  Before he went on, the ice mage narrowed his eyes in dismay and looked away as he gripped his knuckles tightly. “But this whole time, I kept making you cry and get upset. Even now, I don’t even know how to make you feel better when you’re always here for me previously. Instead, I chose to take us somewhere else and frown about it because I was a coward.... I’m sorry.” The ice mage mumbled at the end of his sentence, but Juvia could make out his words anytime. It was funny, really. All her life, the water mage was contented on loving him without expecting anything much back. Now, when it was becoming a reality, Juvia’s heart swelled. For once, her mind went blank on how to express these thoughts aloud. Loving Gray has been wonderful, but being loved back by him now was even better than she could ever imagined. She placed a hand on his cheek in efforts to cheer him up and as he turned back—in his opinion, Gray was greeted with the most alluring smile he has ever seen. “Thank you for trying so hard, Gray-sama.” She spoke in the most loving voice she could muster. “Juvia loves you very much.” In that moment, his gaze softened as he swiftly took away her hand that was on his face into his own, lacing them together. Tightening his hold on her said hand, Gray took her cheek in with his other free palm. The ice mage took a good look at her before he slowly leaned in. He heard Juvia uttered something out of confusion, but he paid no mind to it. Because in that moment, all he could think of was how much he adored her kindness, love and patience.  In the dim lighting and quiet section of the aquarium, his lips met hers in a chaste kiss as response to her statement earlier on. Frankly, the ice mage did not know what to say either as he nervously pulled away to check on her reaction. When his eyes slowly opened and met with hers, Gray could not help but smile back at his girl whose cheeks were now flushed in surprise. He let out a slight chuckle and squeezed her hand lovingly as he could tell that the water mage was clearly still processing the kiss. It was embarrassing, he admitted, but he did not regret doing so. He had nothing to hide anyways. “Shall we continue on with our date?”
After all, Juvia was his to keep from now on.

Tumblr media
Hajime Hinata:
★ Hajime doesn’t want to plan something extravagant for your anniversary; he’s just satisfied spending time with you. So for your anniversary, you opt to order pizza and watch one of your favorite movies together.
★ You laugh at all the same familiar parts of the movie and recite the best lines simultaneously. Hajime wraps a blanket around the two of you and you put your head on his chest.
★ About halfway through the movie, you notice Hajime’s attention has shifted from the movie to you.
★ When you look up, Hajime places a hand on your face and pulls you in for a long, soft kiss.
★ “Happy anniversary. I love you, Y/N,” he whispers to you lovingly.
Nagito Komaeda:
★ You enter the aquarium with your boyfriend, Nagito. He mentioned to you in passing one day he had never been to one, so you decided to take him to your local aquarium for your anniversary.
★ You held hands and marveled at all of the different things you saw. Fish, sharks, penguins...even the plants were beautiful to look at!
★ After exploring the aquarium you entered the gift shop. You gasped upon seeing an adorable octopus plushie and showed it to Nagito.
★ You continued looking around only to notice Nagito disappear for a moment. He tapped on your shoulder and told you he was ready to go. You looked down and saw a bag in his hand.
★ Once you were outside, Nagito reached into the bag and pulled out the octopus plushie. “Happy anniversary, Y/N. Thank you for spending time with someone like me.”
Gundham Tanaka:
★ You held Gundham’s bandaged hand, excited to be at a place you two had always dreamed of going: a cat cafe.Walking in, you and Gundham immediately marveled at all of the adorable cats in front of you.
★ Originally, you thought an hour would be plenty of time to spend with the cats, but Gundham ended up buying another hour to make sure you had time to play with all of the cats individually.
★ Both of you had become attached to a cat named Midnight. Gundham had brought up wanting to adopt a cat with you before, but you weren’t sure. But Midnight was so precious you couldn’t resist. Before you know it, you had signed the adoption papers and planned to pick up Midnight a few days later.
★ As you walk home, Gundham gives your hand a soft squeeze and says to you “Happy anniversary, my dark monarch.”
Kazuichi Souda:
★ You knew Kazuichi had been planning something for a while now. However, you had no idea what it was, and he was refusing to say anything.
★ On your anniversary, you took Kazuichi to a museum centered around different types of machines. You smiled watching his eyes light up as you looked around the museum together.
★ Once you were back at the house, he told you he had a gift he worked on for you. He left for a moment and came back holding a little robot he had made of himself. Kazuichi had recorded cute sayings into his robo-self to remind you how much he loved you.
★ “Happy anniversary, Y/N. I hope you love it as much as I love you.”
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu:
★  Fuyuhiko had wanted to do something special for your anniversary, but he was stumped on what to do for you. When the day came, you both agreed on just spending a day in the park and going to get ice cream from your favorite shop nearby.
★ You held his hand in one hand and your ice cream in the other, being careful to not drop your ice cream. You find a bench and sit down with Fuyuhiko, eating your ice cream and feeding each other spoonfuls.
★ When you finish spending time together at the park, you return home to cuddle for the rest of the evening.
★ Your conversation lulls for a moment before Fuyuhiko turns to you. “Hey Y/N...you mean a lot to me, y’know. Happy anniversary.”
Nekomaru Nidai:
★ For your anniversary, Nekomaru had taken you to the beach!
★ You both spend the day building sandcastles and eating your favorite snacks, but your favorite part had to be the water gun fight! Both of you laugh and run around on the beach, spraying each other with streams of water and yelping in surprise when the freezing water hit you.
★ That evening, you both looked out onto the setting sun over the water. The sky had turned pink with streaks of orange. You feel Nekomaru wrap a protective arm around you and kiss the top of your head.
★ “You mean so much to me, Y/N. Happy anniversary.” Nekomaru says to you in a soft tone you’ve never heard before, but know you’ll hear again.
Teruteru Hanamura:
★ You sighed at your front door, relieved that another day of work was over. Today was your anniversary with Teruteru and you were looking forward to spending time with him.
★ You walked into the house and instantly knew the amazing smell that had wafted throughout. Teruteru had made you your favorite meal! He welcomed you home soon after you had closed the door and placed your plate down at the dining table.
★ A few candles had been lit and there were fresh roses in a vase, too.
★ You spent the meal talking to Teruteru about your day and how grateful you were to have him in your life. When you’re both done eating he pulls out a box of homemade chocolates for you.
★ “Thank you for everything, Y/N. Happy anniversary.”
Byakuya Twogami:
★ The Ultimate Impostor just wanted to do something simple for your anniversary, which was to take you to your favorite restaurant. Even if it was just a meal at your favorite restaurant, you were happy nonetheless because you were getting to spend time with him.
★ You notice the restaurant is quieter than usual when you walk in compared to the usual hustle and bustle. Once you’re seated and your meals are in front of you, you both dig in. The food is delicious like usual and you and Byakuya continue the conversation you had started before eating.
★ “Y/N, thank you for accepting me for who I am. Happy anniversary.” Byakuya blushes and you smile at him. The waiter comes by and you order your favorite dessert to share.

After all the fights and stuff and now that the heisenberg family is working for their freedom this gives themore opportunities to do stuff.
So I present: pyro kid going to the aquarium ( supervised by agents) and is legit so amazed by the colorful fish. The only fish he ever saw where the ones moreau caught and showed him. He misses his uncle and wishes he could see these fish...
Like " how do they even make fish in these colors!!" " those are tropical fish they are born like that" " that squiggly one at the bottom is weird" " that's an octopus " " its weird and squiggly and I like the cut of its jib!!"
[previously]
[insert that one pic of an old man with a hand over his heart and suffering] I think...something broke in my chest
you can see your dad from the door of his new lab, barking orders at all the engineers and technicians under his orders, he says he hates working for the BSAA but he seems more lively, happy and busting with new found passion
he sees you before his assistant has the chance to announce your presence
Karl: what is it kid?
Y/N: Chris said I can go out on my "own" and...I wanted to know if you are ok with it?
Karl: how come you get to roam and break havoc outside and I'm trapped here?
Y/N: well you see...I'm adorable and I get away with anything I want!
your father laughs, making his staff look at him a bit taken aback by the sound, but he nods anyway, casting a glance at the 2 agents waiting for you
he bids you goodbye and reminds you to take pictures of everything
you had chosen the aquarium weeks ago, the memory of your uncle still heavy on you, of the days you spent fishing in the river with him, his books about the terrible sea dragons...you wish he was here to go with you
the ride is quiet and uneventful, Lisa, one of the agents keeps giggling when you poke your head between the seats and ask about something you saw, asking them to show you how to use some feature on your phone
Melvin? that prick...hes the other agent and he laughs when you loudly gasp at the entrance of the aquarium, the bright colors and the speakers announcing something about a...penguin show?
you have to pull him and wildly point at the ticket booth, attracting the attention of many people, but making the agents chuckle and make you wait while they buy the tickets, waving at you to follow
Melvin as to grab the back of your jacket and remind you of the rules, stay close where they can see you if they lose track of you and call you, you answer. more importantly...no talking with suspicious individuals
he wants for you to nod and then, you are free, almost bolting to the exhibitions, looking at everything with a awestruck face
Y/N: Lis...LIS...what in the heck is that...
Lisa: oooh! that's an otter, see? there's a plaque with all the information about them
Y/N: sea otter...so there's other kinds?
Melvin: the river ones, both are cute but I think these guys are bigger
for a moment Lisa worries you might end up running out of battery or memory by how many pictures you take
she's all but happy to take you to the otter show, sneakily taking a picture of you getting a kiss from an otter and send it to Heisenberg
for Melvin is too taxing having to grab your hand and let you pull him everywhere, excitedly babbling about your favorite exhibitions so far, how scary the deep sea creatures look...
then you stop, blankly staring at a river fish tank, Lisa is the one who sees your eyes fill with tears
Lisa: is something wrong Y/N?
Y/N:...those carps...uncle Moreau and I...i was six when he took me to fish for the first time, he was so proud of me when I showed him what caught...it was a young carp nothing big...but he was so proud
Melvin is there in a second, giving you a slight pat on your head and asking "Which area of the aquarium would have been your uncle's favorite"
and the babbling resumes, pointing at the possibility of him LOVING the tropical fish or the penguins...he would have been so happy to see everything!
when the time to leave comes, you are so tired, firmly clutching an otter and shark plush, and a bag with so many trinkets Lisa can't help but shake her head on what kind of stuff you used your allowance
the ride back is only interrupted by the need to buy something to eat, both agents see you tiredly munch on some fries, battling to stay awake
all your energy seems to come back when you are back with your dad, quickly rambling about everything you say, all the things you learned, how he has to go with you next time!
the man laughs when you see the picture of your "first kiss" with the other placed on the fridge
he promises to go next time with you, and maybe, try to hit the local zoo too, he wants to see some land animals he heard or saw only in books

Aquarium Date
Pairing: Diavolo/Reader(Gender Neutral reader)
Pure fluff/attempt at humor- SFW
Summary: Diavolo asks about your favorite things to do in the human realm, and you tell him about aquariums. He decides you should go to one together.
Huge thank you to @jugodeflores for motivating/ encouraging me to write this and also beta reading for me!
“MC,” You look up Diavolo from your D.D.D, wondering when he’d stopped doing his own paperwork. Instead, his gold eyes focused on you as he propped his chin on his hand, “What’s your favorite thing to do in the human realm?”
“Well, I guess it depends,” You tell him, smiling a little as he listens to you speak with intense curiosity, “Do you mean day to day, or special occasions?”
“Special occasions?” He questions, leaning forward in his seat now.
“Yeah, Like vacations, day trips, or dates and stuff.”
“I’m interested in special occasions,” He answers.
“Okay, Well, I never really went on vacations or traveled much,” Which in a way, is what had prompted you to sign and mail the mysterious exchange forms that had found their way in your mail one day, “But I liked taking trips to the cities I lived near, just to explore and find new places and stuff. There were a couple of water parks around, and some carnivals during the summer, along with an amusement park a few hours away, a few museums too. I think my top favorite was the aquarium though, alone or for a date.”
You watch the Prince tilt his head slightly, his expression urging you to continue. “There’s just something about the experience that never gets old for me. Seeing all the different creatures that I wouldn’t see otherwise, and it’s more than just looking at fish too, sometimes they have live feedings for certain animals, and the one I went to had penguins and sea otters and A jellyfish tank. I could watch the moon jellies for hours. And there’s information on everything housed in there, so you can learn about them while you observe them. I went for a field trip in second grade and I fell in love with it.”
“That does seem like it would be an entertaining experience.” he grins warmly at you, “Let’s go to one.”
You blink at him, processing his words, “Huh?”
“Let’s go to a human realm aquarium. I want to experience one with you.”  You feel your face flush when he laughs, “I’ll make all the necessary arrangements.” He already looks so excited that you can feel your heart melt. It’s not like you’d have said no in the first place, but you nod your agreement anyways.
So a week later you’re visiting the human realm, Your hand gripping Diavolo’s as the Demon Prince led you along to the aquarium he’d chosen to visit. It wasn’t very often you got to see him in casual clothes, So while he was focused on your destination you took some time to admire the way he looked in the dark red button down and black slacks. It was kind of unfair, really, how good he looked.
Soon, though, you had reached the doors and Diavolo was paying the entry fees, taking a map and leading you into the building farther before stopping and turning to you, “What should we do first?”
“Well,” you pondered, glancing at the pamphlet he held out to you, “There’s a show with the dolphins in two hours if you’re interested in that. Until then, we can start here and work our way through the building, unless there’s something you want to see right now.”
Diavolo shook his head, “I want to see it all.” and with that he sets off again, his enthusiasm drawing a laugh from you as he leads you in the direction of the exhibits. His eyes light up as you walk into what you note is supposed to be an exhibit on the Amazon, and the look of wonder that graces his features is something you want to commit to memory for the rest of your life.
You move along the tanks, and he leans in close to each one. Sometimes, you’re able to point out a specific fish and give a few facts about them, and sometimes you read him the trivia posted around the exhibit.
“It kind of reminds me of Leviathan,” Diavolo says suddenly, prompting you to turn from the sign of facts about Piranhas you’d been reading. You can’t help the laugh that you let out when you see he’s observing a rainbow boa that’s draped lazily on one of the many large branches in its enclosure. The pattern along its body does indeed remind you of Leviathan’s demon form. You don’t have time to respond as Diavolo takes out his D.D.D, double checks the flash is off and snaps a picture.
You try to peer over his shoulder to see what he’s doing, but with a grin he finishes typing and turns the phone toward you. The Picture of the snake is there, soft iridescent sheen on it’s skin visible along with the pattern, under it is a short message that simply reads, Is this you? And you can only imagine how Levi will react when he opens that message. The thought is amusing but it quickly drifts to the back of your mind as Diavolo starts moving toward another enclosure, attention captured by something there.
You follow him through the rest of this exhibit, letting him lead you around the rooms and take as much time to observe everything he wants. You’re glad he’s so tall, otherwise you might be afraid you’d lose him in the crowd with how suddenly he seems to take off to other exhibits when something catches his eye. The interest and child-like excitement that continues to shine through him rubs off on you, and soon enough your hands are intertwined once again as he pulls you gently along. You make it through a freshwater fish exhibit before you decide it’s time to head to the show.
As you’re heading there you pass a group of young children clearly on a field trip, and apparently heading to the same show you are. A few of them stare at you- or, more accurately, Diavolo. One of them whispers to their friend, a not so quiet- “He’s really tall, like, as tall as a superhero!” You feel the soft chuckle Diavolo lets out, biting back your own laugh. Diavolo though turns back slightly, sending a wink at the pair before guiding you to your seats for the show.
Now, instead of his grip on your hand he wraps his arm around you, pulling you flush against his side. It causes a slight blush to dust your cheeks, but you lean into his side anyways, enjoying the closeness of the moment. “Are you enjoying your day so far?” he asks as people continue to find seats, shuffling around and settling while waiting for the show to begin.
“I’m having a lot of fun,” you tell him honestly, your own smile bright, but your conversation is cut short by the show beginning. You both give it your attention, though every so often, after a dolphin performs a particularly impressive trick or amusing maneuver, you glance at the demon beside you to see his reactions. Each time he laughs in delight you can feel it move through him, and you can feel the way his arm tenses around you during tricks, can see the awe in his eyes when the trainers explain some of the mannerisms of the animals, the relationships they form with one another, and efforts to help the earth’s environments to help the natural habitats of the animals.
After the show, you end up at the touch pools- something that sets off a whole new level of excitement in Diavolo. He’s extremely careful when he reaches in, fingers gently grazing the creatures sitting in the shallow water. “It’s fascinating,” the Anemone his hand brushed against swayed gently with the movement of the water.
“You don’t expect them to feel so...squishy, right?”
You go through a few more exhibits after that, and you even manage to sneak a few photos of Diavolo, your favorite being the one where he’s nearly leaning against the glass of the beluga whale enclosure, one of the creatures on the other side  staring right back at him, the delighted expression on Diavolo’s face is priceless. You also manage to send it to Lucifer, knowing he’d appreciate it as much as you do.  A while later, Diavolo takes your hand in his again.
“The Aquarium is hosting a jellyfish exhibit for a limited time,” he says, leading you along to a staircase that has another attendant standing at the top, “I got us the passes because you said you liked them.” He hands the attendant the passes, who nods as you continue on down the staircase. Even in the dimmer light as you reach the bottom you can see the faint tinge of pink on his face.
“You didn’t have to do that,” you squeeze his hand, smiling up at him, “but thank you, I love it.”
The pace you took around the exhibit was slower now, moving along the dim rooms and taking minutes at a time to watch the strange creatures drift through the lit tanks. It’s quieter here than the rest of the aquarium, and less crowded, probably due to the fact that it required additional passes- but it feels almost serene, despite the low chatter of the other guests roaming the rooms.
“I believe I understand what you meant when you said you could watch them for hours,” Divaolo says next to you, his golden eyes are tracking the movement of the Jellies, his features bathed in the blue glow of the tank’s lighting- it makes everything feel softer somehow, the way his lips are curved into a smile, how his hair falls just slightly into his eyes, even his gaze.
When he turns to you there’s something else in his eyes that makes your face heat up. “They really are beautiful,” he says, and you realize he’s leaning in closer, as he continues, “Almost as beautiful as you,” he finishes, and even though there’s sincerity in his voice- even though you know he doesn’t lie- you have to fight the urge to roll your eyes.
“That’s...so cheesy.” you say, but you can feel your own grin on your face, your hand squeezes his tighter, and you lean up, almost completely on your toes to meet him in a soft, quick kiss. “Thank you for this,” you say earnestly, “I’m happy we got to come here together.”
“As am I. I should thank you for putting up with me dragging you around all the exhibits, I’m sure you are used to a more relaxed atmosphere than that.”
“I think it’s cute.” You answer, satisfaction washing over you at the blush that covers his face, “I like how excited you are. It means I can tell you’re having a good time.”
He chuckled slightly, “I would say any time spent with you is good.”
The two of you lingered in the Jellyfish exhibit for a while, silently admiring the displays.
When you finally emerge you have to blink at the sudden increase in light, but Diavolo is already leading you along again. “I was told that these sort of trips aren’t complete without a visit to the gift shop.”
“I guess that is kinda true,” you admit, following him into the shop. Immediately, something catches your eye. “Dia, look!” You hold up an almost perfectly round stuffed seal in your hands, squeezing it’s soft sides slightly, “It’s so cute!” It’s little flippers dangle slightly as Diavolo looks at it- and you- with unveiled amusement, “Feel it!”
He takes it from your hands, squeezing it slightly. “It is incredibly soft,” he turns it over in his hands, squishing it again, “Do you want one?”
“Wait- really?”
“Why would I ask If I didn’t really want to know?”
“I do like it,” you admit- “Reminds me of you, in a way.”
Diavolo looks at the Seal’s face, then back to you, “It reminds you...of me?”
“Nice to hug. Cute.”
“Is that so?” Diavolo’s cheeks are flushed pink again, and even though your own face feels warm you can’t help but admire the ability to make the Prince of the Devildom blush. He tucks the seal under his arm without saying anything else- and then it seems that a display of t-shirts catches his eye. “All proceeds go to charity. MC, do you know this charity?”
You glance at the sign. “I do! It’s a good one, they support a lot of rescue habitats and environmental efforts- and they actually use their money for what they say they do, unlike some.”
Divaolo’s eyes shine as he takes in the shirts, Colorful cartoon fish decorate the fabric, and bold, bright letters declaring “Don’t be Shellfish, Protect our Oceans,” are written on the front. He moves to the display, rifling through the shirts before pulling out three different sizes.
"Three?"
"One for Lucifer as well!"
You laugh out loud at the mental image of Lucifer wearing the shirt and nod, "Good idea."  Diavolo wanders around the shop a bit more, when another stuffed animal catches your eye. A beluga whale. Your mind flashes back to the delight on his face when you’d snapped that picture of him and the whale earlier that day. You pick the stuffed beluga up, it’s large and, to your delight, is just as soft as it looks. You glance over at Diavolo and see that he’s distracted by a book display, so as stealthy as you can you make your way to the cashier with the whale.
You pay, thanking the cashier, then make your way to the door before calling out, “I’ll be waiting outside, Dia!”
It’s not long after he exits the gift shop with a curious expression, multiple bags gripped in one hand and the seal tucked back under his arm. “MC?”
You hold the whale out to him, “I thought you’d like this,” you say, pleased by the fondness obvious in his expression, he frees the seal under his arm, handing it to you and taking the gift.
“I adore it. Is this why you left before me?”
You grin, squeezing the seal with one arm and linking your free hand with his, “I wanted it to be a surprise, as well as a thank you for all of this.”
You feel like you’re half asleep when you get back to the Devildom, eyes drooping and legs slightly aching from all the walking you’d done that day. You eat dinner with Diavolo, and then you insist on joining him in his study when he says he has some paperwork to finish before he goes to bed.
You’re curled up in one of the armchairs, the stuffed seal Diavolo bought you under your head like a pillow as you watch him do paperwork. You feel your eyes droop, slower to open them each time. Eventually you decide it’s easier to give into sleep, figuring Diavolo could wake you before he went to bed for the night.
“Dia,” You mumble, waiting for him to look up from whatever paperwork he was pouring over now, “Thank you for today. I love you.”
He smiles softly back at you, “I love you, sweetheart.” You give him one last smile before curling up tighter and letting yourself fall asleep.

for that bokuro thing
» how would their first date go?¿
where, when, + their first kiss maybe,,, yk, the sappy bs
💖 Oof this ended up being longer than I anticipated, I hope you like it! 💖
Kenma was sick of it. Kuroo had been prattling on about Bokuto incessantly in the weeks leading up to training camp for both years they had been in school together and even when Kenma was just a middle schooler. It was time to nudge things forward a bit.
“Kuroo, you’ve been running around in the tutorial for three years now. You need to get some huevos and level up.”
“Ugh…” Kuroo could feel Kenma’s unrelenting stare upon him. He never did beat around the bush.
“Kuroo. Look at this logically. You two are practically inseparable whenever you’re together. He gives you those weird chest bumps all the time. He tackles you when you aren’t looking. He’s practically spelling it out for you.”
“Kenma… he’s… you know... a strange person. He’s like that with everyone. I’m not even sure if he’d be into a guy.”
“Has he ever talked about a girl? Even once?”
“I mean, no.”
“Ha. So, the odds are in your favor. This might be your last chance before you graduate. If you aren’t going to make it weird, I’m going to make it weird for you.”
It was times like this when Kuroo reminded Kenma that he used to be even shyer than him. That behind his cocky bravado, there was a bashful, guarded heart. More than anything, he wanted him to be happy after high school. After he graduated, there would need to be more to life than just school and volleyball. Kenma knew that Kuroo would be fine financially, probably getting some high-paying job with big pharma, but he couldn’t help imagining him all alone in his tiny studio apartment every day: cooking a microwave dinner, watching some documentary, and falling asleep, day after day. After all he’d done for him in high school, Kenma wanted to do something in return. So, on his way home from school, he hopped a bus downtown and bought two tickets to the aquarium. He knew that if money had been put into it that Kuroo wouldn’t back out.
________________________________________________
Kuroo could feel the sweat making his jersey stick to his back. He could feel the endorphins of an exhausting day of training cursing through him like the cicada’s insistent song. The tangy smell of barbecue wafted up from the grill as the embers died down for the evening. He got one last plate and settled into the grass by the firepit next to Kenma and a bunch of the other guys. Everyone knew it was the 3rd years’ last day of the last training camp, and no one was in a hurry to leave. By the look of it, a game of truth or dare was already going strong, because sure enough, there was Kenma, holding a cicada right up to Hinata’s face.
“You don’t have to swallow. You just have to bite its head off. It’s really not that bad. There were thousands of years of famine where whole villages lived on nothing but bugs. You’re only paying tribute to your ancestors. It tastes kind of nutty.” Kenma chuckled.
Despite his look of disgust, Hinata squealed and bit the cicada.
“AHHHHH! ITS LEGS ARE STILL MOVING!!” Hinata turned over and gagged while Kenma doubled over in laughter. After he recovered, an out of breath Hinata turned to Kenma. “Truth or Dare?”
“Truth.”
“Lameee… Okay. What’s the most illegal thing you’ve ever done?”
Kenma started to explain how he pulled a fire alarm in fifth grade to get out of having to give a speech, but Kuroo’s head started pounding and he stopped listening as Hinata waved Bokuto over and he put two and two together. Were Hinata and Kenma conspiring against him? He shivered involuntarily and tried to steady his breathing. He knew exactly what was about to happen.
“Okay, Kuroo. Dare.” Kenma said. He could’ve sworn he saw Hinata giggle. He was definitely in on this.
“You need to give these to the most attractive person here.” He held out two tickets to the Shinagawa Aquarium.
The pounding started again. These kinds of nerves usually only happened to him when he was in a match and was torn about what to do next. The difference here was that he knew exactly what he needed to do. Kenma, always the perfect setter, had made sure conditions were ideal. Boy, was inter-high going to be awkward if what he was about to do next didn’t pan out. He still had an out. He could give the tickets to Kiyoko or Yachi. But he knew Kenma would never forgive him. He only hoped no one could see his face flush as he wordlessly shuffled over to Bokuto. He could have played it off as a joke, as he was sure Bokuto was going to, but he felt like he might pass out, so he smacked the tickets down on Bokuto’s thigh without making eye contact or saying a word.
“A man of good taste!” Bokuto announced in his goofy stadium announcer voice, ruffling Kuroo’s hair. Behind his façade, Kuroo could feel Bokuto’s huge eyes asking him a million questions. Questions he was not ready to answer. Not here anyway.
________________________________________________
“ned help. Calculis. Might fail. Come quick. Pls ”
Bokuto’s text had come as a horrendously spelled relief. It had been almost a week and a half since training camp. Kuroo had been obsessively checking his phone, sure that Bokuto had smushed up the tickets in his training bag and forgotten them. Or worse, used them to take some fangirl on a date. Despite Kuroo’s knack for academics, this was the first time Bokuto had directly asked for help.
Kuroo put a little extra gel in his hair, sniff checked himself, applied more deodorant, and ran out to catch the bus.
When he got to Bokuto’s place, Bokuto opened the door with sunglasses on and his keys in his hand. He did not appear to have even attempted any of his homework. It was a good thing Bokuto was talented at volleyball.
“I gave up!” Bokuto announced proudly, gesturing at the mound of papers on the ground. “But since you came all the way here, I didn’t want to waste your time. Still want to go to Shinagawa?”. The tickets weren’t crumpled. In fact, they were in perfect condition, like they had never even been in his pockets.
“Uhh... yeah.” God, Kuroo felt so awkward. He had spent so much time with Bokuto, but there had always been a net between them and a clear goal. Practice. Mess with kohai. Strategize. Eat. Now it was just the two of them wandering around. Was Bokuto fearless or oblivious? It was hard to tell. Kuroo listened as Bokuto rambled on and on about his futile attempt at calculus, and how he was worried about keeping his university scholarship if he failed, but despite the depressing topic, his tone was even more chipper than usual.
When they arrived at the aquarium, Bokuto’s eyes lit up like a little boy’s. “Kuroo? First, can we go pet the stingrays?”
Kuroo nodded and smiled just slightly as Bokuto tugged on his arm in the right direction. He listened as Bokuto pedantically explained the exact way to wiggle your fingers so that the stingrays would swim right up to you, and then precisely where you could touch them without getting close to their stinger. Bokuto’s incessant talking made it so that Kuroo’s own breathless joy didn’t lead to awkward pauses. Hours passed this way, Bokuto bursting with excitement and Kuroo riding his wave of enthusiasm.
There was one final corner of the aquarium Bokuto had been saving for last. The crowds had dispersed, and they were alone. This room was carpeted so that they could barely even hear their own footsteps in the dim lighting. They both were speechless. After a long day of crowds and Bokuto’s lengthy explanations, the silence in this room felt sacred. The only light came from the thousands of teal jellyfish floating in the indigo water.
Kuroo felt like he was standing on a ledge, like the jiggle of the diving board, as you hesitate before diving into the shockingly cold, but smooth water. He’d never been so attracted to someone before. He could listen to him for days and never get tired. Bokuto’s enthusiasm for life made him remember how it felt to be a kid, when everything was important when everything mattered. Now in the darkness, the green glow of the jellyfish playing off of Bokuto’s amber eyes, Kuroo knew he didn’t have a choice. He was jumping off. He whispered to him, not wanting to disrupt his wonder.
“Bokuto?”
Just as Bokuto turned toward him, before he could say anything, Kuroo leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. He could feel his stomach doing somersaults, vertigo overtaking him as Bokuto grabbed him back, taking his head in both of his hands and kissing him back. Hard. He felt the gentlest slip of his tongue into his mouth, forgetting where he was, knowing that he would never be able to get enough of this, of the way he tasted, the way his arm felt pressed into his back, how soft his hair felt, all the parts of him he had wanted to touch for so long. Wanting and being wanted back. Slowly the feeling of needing to faint returned and he could feel Bokuto pulling him onto a bench, holding him tight against him. His breath was soft and gentle on his neck, teasing at another kiss, but waiting until Kuroo looked back up at him, ready.
“Tetsuro… why did you make me wait so long?” Bokuto panted between urgent kisses on Kuroo’s neck.
“I… I was scared.” Kuroo hadn’t realized that there were tears brimming at the corners of his eyes and a lump in his throat.
Kuroo suddenly became aware of Bokuto’s arms, firm and warm, the same arms he had been watching for three years, holding him. Those huge hands were so gentle, his fingers massaging circles into the back of Kuroo’s neck.
“Let’s not be scared anymore, okay? Promise me, Tetsuro?”
Unable to speak, he took Bokuto’s hand and kissed it, hoping that this kiss would mean more than any words could.

Fluff Alphabet - Harry Wells
Tumblr media
Pairing: Harry Wells x Gender Neutral!Reader
Word count: 1.7k
Warnings: None
Summary: A fluffy A-Z with Harry Wells!
A/N: These are really fun to do, so if you’d like to see more, let me know! (Also, if you would want others, let me know who you’d like to see)
~
A = Attractive (What do they find attractive about the other?)
Harry loves your smile and the way your face lights up around him. Knowing you’re so happy because of him makes him feel special.
B = Baby (Do they want a family? Why/Why not?)
Harry already has Jesse, and since he’s on the older side now, he’s not particularly looking to have another baby. That being said, if you really want a child, he could be talked into it, and when you get the news you’re pregnant or have been approved for adoption he’s overjoyed.
C = Cuddle (How do they cuddle?)
Harry never admits in public that he likes to cuddle, but when you start dating, you quickly find out he does. He’s a big fan of spooning, the protective beast inside him soothed by having an arm wrapped securely around your waist.
D = Dates (What are dates with them like?)
Dates tend to be lowkey with Harry. He’s pretty private on both Earth-1 and 2, so usually it’s either dinner out at a quiet restaurant, or a shared meal at home the two of you cooked together.
E = Everything (You are my ____ (e.g. my life, my world…))
“You are my heart.”
F = Feelings (When did they know they were in love?)
One night while you were visiting Earth-2, Harry came home late to find you asleep on the sofa. You had a blanket draped over your lap, and an open book barely clutched in your hands. He realized you’d tried to stay up for him, and that was when he knew. The love he hadn’t felt in years was back, and it left him a little breathless, and if he was to be honest, a little scared. Which is why he sat on his feelings for a while before saying anything.
G = Gentle (Are they gentle? If so, how?)
Harry doesn’t tend to be that gentle. He’s not just rough around the edges. But sometimes he is. If you’re upset, or even worse, hurt, his hands will be gentle on you, careful not to inflict further pain, searching for ways to make it better. And, in the late hours of the night, or the early hours of the morning, when you’re laying in bed together, he’ll gently trace as much of you as he can, committing every inch to memory.
H = Hands (How do they like to hold hands?)
Harry isn’t really one to hold hands. PDA isn’t his thing, and he’d rather keep affection in private. But sometimes, when you’re on the sofa watching something together, he likes it when you slip a hand into his and snuggle a little closer. One time, during a Team movie night, he slid his hand over yours instead. You didn’t say anything, but the two of you shared a private smile, and no words were needed.
I = Impression (What was their first impression?)
Harry wasn’t entirely sure what to make of you at first. He met you along with the rest of the Team, and at the time his only thoughts were how could you help him save Jesse? As for you, you were with the rest of the Team and thought he was a sexy dick.
J = Jealousy (Do they get jealous?)
Not always, but sometimes. He knows you’d never cheat or do anything to hurt him, but occasionally he’ll see you with someone else, laughing, happy and at ease, he’ll feel the jealousy start to creep in. He tries to not let on though, since he knows the only reason he’s jealous is because a part of him still believes you deserve someone better than him.
K = Kiss (How do they kiss? Who initiated the first kiss?)
The first kiss was pretty much mutual. It was late, and after a long day, you stayed behind at the Labs to join Harry for a drink and unwind. A couple of drinks in, you were both pleasantly tipsy, and Harry was more relaxed than normal. One thing led to another then you were both leaning in to kiss. Neither of you could have imagined it being better. Harry’s kisses tend to be intense. He pours all the emotions he doesn’t know how to say into them. Sometimes, they’re more passionate, rougher, because his mind is swirling and he’s desperate for you. Other times, they’re slower, deeper, his hands on your face, keeping you close. Either way, they’re always intense.
L = Love (Who says ‘I love you’ first?)
You say ‘I love you’ first, and when you do, you have to be prepared for him not to say it back immediately. Harry had never imagined finding love again, and he isn’t one to wear his heart on his sleeve, so it would take him some time to gather the courage to say it in return. When he does say it, it won’t be when you expect it. It’ll be during some quiet domestic moment when he sees you doing your thing, and gets hit with the realisation that he can’t keep his feelings hidden any longer.
M = Memory (What’s their favourite memory together?)
One day you and Harry had volunteered to go out and get Big Belly Burger for the Team, but on the way back a sudden downpour caught you by surprise and forced you both to take shelter under a shop doorway. Both soaked already anyway, you had started laughing when he grumbled and pushed wet hair out of his face. Harry was taken aback by how beautiful you looked, and it was the first time he realized that he cared for you.
N = Nickel (Do they spoil? Do they buy the person they love everything?)
It depends on whose Earth you’re on. Harry doesn’t have much on Earth-1 so he can’t spoil you, but he likes to make up for it when you visit Earth-2. He doesn’t go overboard, but if you spot something you like while out sight-seeing, he’ll get it for you.
O = Orange (What colour reminds them of their other half?)
Black. The association has likely less to do with you, and more to do with the few occasions he let you drape his black coat or jacket over your shoulders. Now whenever he looks at them, he’s reminded of you.
P = Pet names (What pet names do they use?)
Harry keeps it simple. ‘Sweetheart’ or ‘Honey’ are usually his main goto’s, but when you’re alone he also calls you ‘atom’ because you make up his world. Just don’t tell anyone that.
Q = Quaint (What is their favourite non-modern thing?)
Harry’s no musical savant, but he does love vinyl still. Collecting them is a guilty pleasure of his. Watching you dance to them is also a pleasure. Just less guilty.
R = Rainy Day (What do they like to do on a rainy day?)
Harry spends most of his days rainy or not in his lab anyway, so it doesn’t make much difference to him. However, he does secretly like it when you drag him out and make him cuddle with you on the sofa while you binge watch something.
S = Sad (How do they cheer themselves/others up?)
Since Harry is Mr. Broody, he doesn’t do a thing to cheer himself up. He just lets it sit and dwells without telling anyone anything. You learn the signs though, and when you know he’s down, go to cuddle him, because that’s the one thing you know will cheer him up. As for you, he’s not very good at knowing how to cheer you up either. He wants to, he hates seeing you upset, but if it’s not a problem he can physically fix, he ends up being at a loss. Tell him what he can do though, and he’ll do it without question.
T = Talking (What do they like to talk about?)
Science, obviously. He’ll readily go on about whatever he’s working on at length. When you’re comfortable together, he likes to talk about Jesse as a child too, and his life prior to the Particle Accelerator.
U = Unencumbered (What helps them relax?)
Honestly, not much. Harry’s pretty much always tightly wound, but you’ve found that a back massage or even just hugging him from behind, helps him to unwind.
V = Vaunt (What do they like to show off? What are they proud of?)
His intelligence is the main one. Jesse is the other.
W = Wedding (When, how, where do they propose?)
Harry did put a lot of thought into the proposal, and even consulted Iris, Caitlin and Jesse on it. Grand displays aren’t his thing, but if it’s your first time getting married, he wants to make it special. He ends up taking you to Earth-2’s Atlantis for a mini break and pulls out all the stops. You get the best hotel with the best view, and Harry makes sure you have the best time. In the night, you order room service, and sit out on a balcony, to watch the city from up high. It’s a beautiful sight, and as time goes on Harry starts to confess how much he loves you. It’s clear to see that he struggles to find the right words to articulate his feelings, but he does, and, when he’s done, gets down on one knee and pulls out a ring box.
X = Xylophone (What’s their song?)
Harry wouldn’t say he has a song in particular. But, on the first morning he stayed at your place, he caught you dancing to the radio in the kitchen, and now the song that was playing can often be heard in his lab too.
Y = Yes (Do they ever think of getting married/proposing?)
Harry had no plans of ever getting remarried, but after being with you for some time, he realised he wanted to. He knows it’s an antiquated thought, but he wants to see a ring on your finger so everyone knows you’re his, and he’s yours.
Z = Zebra (If they wanted a pet, what would they get?)
Harry would want something low maintenance. A large aquarium would be nice. You could also talk him into getting a cat if you really wanted one, and if he took a liking to have said cat sleep on his lap while he worked, he’d never admit it.

Note
firstly, i’m beyond happy you’re doing such a nice event for everyone!! thank you! congratulations and i bet you’ll have more people adoring your works bc they’re worth sobbing for, they make me feel, i gobbled up each one of ‘em (the first one i read was the one where chuuya rented the entire gym💀) lmao but monitor ur health too, there’s no rush and have a lovely day💛
✨my pronouns are they/she, and i’m in love with reading!! especially collections of letters + classic lit, which in turn made me write letters to people i care for, with the cute envelopes, flowers, and tiny spritz of perfume. sometimes i attach my own poetry or quote something i think conveys what they mean to me/remind me of them. i’m typically quiet so i express it in written words instead, or surpises that are handmade/homecooked, and if i really don't know how else more to say ily i just resort to cuddles + outburst of kisses (and back hugs *screams*). or a random act of service they currently need (when i see fics where reader takes care of chuuya after a tough day like patching him up and just making him comfy i scream cry and throw up hsuwshsh)i also love listening to ppl i love, like plans cancelled and earth irrelevant dont u ever shut up keep talking hduwhsywh
Ty for this again, sending love n good things💐
oh my gosh anon thank you so much 🥺 "worth sobbing for" is such a huge compliment and i'm so happy if i can draw such big emotions out of you! thank you for looking out for me, i promise i'll take care of myself (i say as i write this at 2am)
anyway, here are your chuu stuff!! :
he loves your little thing with literature! he also has a sweet spot for literature (and really, art in general) so whenever you get to have a little moment where you geek out he’s always so soft about it, you can see it in his eyes.
of course, he enables your hobby with all he can! ebooks? got the best reader out there right now, honey. hardbound books? guess what’s being carted into the penthouse. love writing letters? cool, what kind of stationery do you need, babe?
he falls even deeper in love with every letter you write him. so write him a lot, won’t you? he appreciates every little touch you make to make the letter even just a little bit more brighter for whoever will read it, and if he’s gone away for a mission or a trip he always has one with him to read and sometimes just hold when he misses you.
if you make him something yourself he’s always low-key bragging about it to anyone close enough to him. like if you cooked him a little bento to bring to a chill day at work, he’d be sitting outside some sort of balcony just nose-up like “you see this? they made this for me. do you get any lunchboxes? no? that’s cause i’m special. that’s cause they’re special.” (the only person he’d ever directly brag about it to is probably kouyou, maybe the black lizards, but to everyone else... turn green with envy looking over.)
lots of quiet dates for the two of you! of course, if you’re up to going to somewhere like a rave or an amusement park he’d gladly bring you, but oftentimes it’s in quieter places where you guys spend your dates. out at the park, by the portside, aquariums, a local cafe... you name it. he just enjoys relishing in your presence without the excess of everything else. you’re such a quiet, calming presence to him that he loves to bask in it.
the moment he discovers you are one for physical touch that’s the end of it for you! chuuya’s not a man of much words. ...well that’s a lie, he talks a lot, but he has a hard time putting his feelings into words often. knowing he can rely on touch to convey what he wants to, and that you will still receive the message clearly, is a weight off his shoulders.
your genuine concern whenever he comes home even the littest bit injured actually leaves chuuya... very flustered. he hasn’t had anybody fret over him like that before, not since he came to the mafia. kouyou took care of him but there was always an air of distance between them. and port mafia clinics are cold and clinical. but to come home to you gasping and “chuuya?! oh no, what’s happened to you this time...” he’s so thankful and grateful but also embarrassed at getting in trouble.
chuuya has a fixation on your hands. there’s something about it that’s just magical, he knows, and he will absolutely adore the hell out of them. these are the hands you use to tenderly flip through the pages of your beloved books; these are the hands that make his delicious lunches and all those handmade little things; these are the hands that patch him up; these are the hands that put him back together. he’s always kissing your hands to show how much he adores what they do.
overall, i think you’re going to be a great, more domestic kind of partner to chuuya, one he actually needs to balance himself out! he loves that he can be the loud to your quiet, and he can urge you out of your shell the same way you pat him down to calmness. a really good match if you ask me!

Chapter 11 - Breaking Bread
“I forgot to ask,” you reached out to grab Curtis’ right arm as the gang shuffled along the green aisles of the garden section.
“What?” Curtis was too busy looking at the overwhelming plants, trees, and vegetables that he thought had long been extinct in the world. It was a beautiful sight, you had to admit, especially compared with the monotone bleakness of the tail section. So beautiful that when Namgoong opened the door, everyone’s eyes, with the sole exception of Mason’s, lit up as this unimaginable paradise was presented to them.
“That little scar on your forearm--”
“It’s nothing--” you felt his arm stiffen beneath your hand, his left hand involuntarily scratching the coat over the position of the scar. To be honest, you could barely remember what it looked like anyway. In the heat of passion last night, your eyes caught a long, even line near the elbow that looked more like the remnant of a precision surgery than a battle scar.
“All right, keep your mysterious cool guy aura then,” The scar piqued your interest, but you decided against pushing for an answer--there will be time after the matter at hand... You grabbed tighter onto his arm, tip-toeing to place your lips near his ear and whisper, “Tease.”
Curtis turned around, surprised. You didn’t need to forego all the fun, right?
“No, no, no don’t eat that--” a worker reached out to Tanya, who had picked up a tomato.
“It’s OK, just a tomato.” You calmed the worker down, rolling up your sleeve, “Here use my credit.” The worker took out the scanner, still hesitant, but obliged you. A small beep sounded and you were on your way.
“What was that?” It was Curtis’ turn to be curious.
“Well up front we have this thing called currency--” you joked, but the sight ahead distracted your audience.
You had come to the aquarium section.
Moments later, the eight of you were sitting along the sushi bar, staring at the plates of exquisite raw fish in front of you.
“So, sushi.“ Tanya took up her serving and popped it into her mouth.
“You people are lucky! This is only served twice a year, January, and July,” Mason decided this was a good time to open her mouth.
“Why, not enough fish?” Tanya quibbed dryly, as a massive manta flowed overhead.
“Enough isn’t the criterion,” You absent-mindedly took over the conversation from Mason as you poured the soy-sauce for your toro nigiri, “It’s balance--”
You lift your head to put back the soy-sauce, only to realize everyone to your right was looking your way, waiting for you to finish your thought.
“What about balance?” Curtis, sitting to your left, asked.
You whipped your head back, a quick moment as you looked at the man--he will need to know sooner or later, right?
“Be...because of that--” you pointed to the whiteness outside, the remnants of a metropolis whipping past, “the only way this aquarium was going to survive, was by becoming a closed ecological system. The number of individual units must be very closely, precisely controlled in order to maintain the proper, sustainable balance.”
“Like so many other things on this train.”
You passed a stern look to Mason, who was bitterly fiddling with the iron around her wrists.
“Whoever designed this got really lucky then,” Namgoong commented.
“Oh no, back in the first year my--” you caught yourself before the word “father” slipped out, “my friends told me they had to get rid of the fish that couldn’t fit into the food chain...”
“What, the restaurant served exclusively fish?” Curtis could almost hear Edgar’s ranting in his ear.
“Some,” You picked at the wasabi, smearing it on your sushi, “a lot of them got made into taxidermies for posterity...” It was only after the room became quiet that you realized you misspoke, “I’m sorry...It was...”
“It’s all right, it’s what actually happened,” Curtis put his arm on your shoulder, pulling you closer towards him.
You couldn’t let it go that easily of course. Remember your surroundings, you were bothered that your father’s voice rang up in your head. But the truth was you probably needed a reminder, after such a long time with the revolters, it’s easy to forget what you were really here for. Better now than later.
But it seemed the meal was just destined to go awry--no sooner had Mason picked up her chopsticks, than Curtis pulled on the chain, jerking the tools out of Mason’s control.
“No,” Curtis palmed out a protein bar, waving it in front of Mason, “You eat this. Know what it’s made of?”
Mason took it up, and threw a quick look at you, only to realize you had pre-empted her by turning your attention to Yuna sitting to your right.
“Curtis my friend, this seems uncalled for--“
“I’m not your friend, and this is 100% called for.”
”Would I be your friend if I had classified information about Wilford?“
Uh-oh. You forced yourself to turn your head--naturally and slowly--towards Curtis and Mason, “Curtis...” You lay your hand on his, and shook your head.
You could swear you saw his nostrils flare up a little, “We have had to eat this for, hell you have had to eat this for--”
“But isn’t the point of the revolt--”
“The point,” Curtis wriggled his hand from underneath yours, and flung the protein bar at Mason, “is to make them pay for what they did to us--”
“Make them pay? Weren’t we fighting for equal quality--“
“Not after what they did to Edgar--”
“How is degrading Mason any help?”
“At least I’ll sleep a little better knowing I made one front-sectioner get a taste of their own medicine.”
The words hung like leaden rings in the air, reverberating through your spine. Mason looked on, unsure how to react.
“Well,” after a long while, you finally opened your mouth, “then let that be me instead.”
Curtis, like everyone else, was taken aback. They watched as you reached out, switching the protein bar with your own sushi serving.
“Jo, that’s not what Curtis meant...” Tanya tried to diffuse the situation, but you ignored her, biting down on the brownish jelly, forcing the rubbery morsels down your throat. It tasted even worse than you remembered.
When you couldn’t stomach any more of the protein bar, you stuffed the rest in your pocket, got to your feet, and walked to the far end of the aquarium.
Curtis made a move to follow you, but Tanya stopped him, “let her blow off a little steam.” Curtis nodded, still hesitant, his eyes trailing your footsteps as they quickened the closer you moved towards the restroom.
Yuna ran past, intent on following you, but was met with the slamming of the steel door in her face. She looked back at Curtis and company, a little confused and hurt.
On the other side of the door, you were puking your guts out, eyes welling up, nose running. It wasn’t just the thought of eating protein extracted from millions of locusts that turned your stomach--the little clash had brought a stern reality check in your head: this is a revolt, and whatever the original intent, if Curtis and Co succeed, there will be suffering and chaos before any sort of balance is reached.
Guess the old man was pretty perceptive after all...you thought as you finally straightened up, wiping your face with water, trying to recall what your father had planned in case the revolt went further than the water section, only to realize Wilford had actively excluded you from that conversation.
You were wondering if he had predicted your eventual realization of the irreconcilable conflict between your visions of change and those of the revolt when a gentle knock sounded at the door. You checked your face in the mirror, forcing an air of nonchalance—you don’t want Curtis to think you had been crying, even if it was just from nausea.
“Are you OK?” It was Yuna’s voice coming through the door.
Eyes dropping a little, you pulled opened the door, “yeah, just nature calling. What’s up?”
Yuna raised the same wrinkled notebook page, pointing at the pencil-colored steel drawers.
“Yes we’ve been through this—“ Yuna pushed the paper closer to you, forcing you to take a closer look. There were shallow indents on the page, remnants of your notes when you made your way down the train.
Oh god. You panicked as you scrambled to remember what you might have written on those pages.
“Yuna, listen—“
“Guys, c’mon, we are moving onto the next section.” Tanya called out.
You nodded in her direction, and looked down at Yuna, “we’ll revisit this?” Yuna put the paper back into her pocket and followed you to join the gang.
As the two of you approached, Curtis tried to find your eyes. He wished he could say that he didn’t mean what he said, but he knew you saw the truth behind the hot-blooded words. Years of oppression had created a beast within him, and it was easy to hate the front-sectioners when they were faceless beings living in his head, or the pompous Mason. But now...
To be honest he had stopped thinking of you as a front-sectioner since well before your passionate evening together. Which makes it all the more frustrating when you chose to remind him of the undeniable fact, stirring awake the beast he thought he had put to sleep. He knows it’s not your fault—you were barely out of school when you boarded the train. And it is terribly difficult for him to imagine the courage it took for you to side with him against your family and friends—goodness he had never thought about that before. Do you still have family in the front--
His train of thought came to a grinding halt as you walked past him, determined not to look at him. Curtis felt his brows furrow further, and jerking the chain, pulled Mason forward.
“Curtis my friend, could we dispense with the chains for the next section?”
“Why?” A half-distracted answer from Curtis as he watched you push the door open with Namgoong and Grey, heading into the freezer section.
“Well, for the sake of the young, the children--“ Mason was barely finished with her sentence when you walked over, taking off your overcoat and draping it over her cuffs.
”What do you think you’re doing?“ Curtis didn’t sound too pleased.
“It’s the school section next,” you said as you strode to the front of the procession again, “kids shouldn’t be a part of this.”
The silence game between you and Curtis continued throughout the freezer section please, you walking at the front, him trailing in the back with Mason. You started fidgeting as you walked past the racks of beef and frozen chickens—maybe giving Mason your coat wasn’t such a great idea. But you were not going to give Curtis the satisfaction, so you did the only thing you could do, walk faster.
“Hey, spoiled lady, wanna slow the fuck down?” Namgoong never actually learned your name, which doesn’t really make a difference to your really...
“Sorry, I’m just not very good with cold.” You said as you slowed your steps until you were in the same footing as the disheveled security specialist.
“Then you’re fucked in this world.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle, “yeah guess I am...” Then you remembered something, “Why does the Yekaterina Bridge mean so much to you?”
“What?”
“I saw you looking for something through the windows when everyone was hanging on for dear life. Must have been pretty important to you...”
A moment of silence as Namgoong stopped his steps. You kept your eyes on him, waiting for an answer. He let out a sigh, raising a hand, “you wanna swipe your implant to open the door, or should I?”
You turned your head—and see the door at the end of the section.
When the rest of the company finally caught up to you and Namgoong, Curtis noticed your fidgeting hands as they raised up to unlock the door, the fingertips showing just a tiny hint for blue. With Mason in tow, he strode up to you, taking your hand before you could retract it.
“Wh—“
“You’re freezing,” Curtis said as the lively noise of children hit you like a heatwave. Bright colors assaulted your eyes and saccharin songs flowed through the concrete doors.
“I’m fine,” you replied, your hand twitching within his grasp, but not quite withdrawing it.
“Look, I feel like an asshole for earlier...” Curtis took a pause as the rest of the company shuffled past into the school section. A pregnant lady led the children in chorus as an educational, semi-propaganda introduction of the train was blaring on the TV at the moment. Thank god you were too old for this when you first boarded.
When it was once again just the two of you hovering at the entrance, Curtis continued, “Here take my coat—” He moved to shrug off his tattered coat, but you stopped him.
“Sure this front-sectioner has had enough taste of her own medicine?”
“C’mon, I don’t think of you as a front—“
That’s not exactly what you were hoping to hear.
“But I am one,” you said as you pulled your hand free, his fingers leaving visible prints on yours, “and up to a month ago, everyone in my life is one too.”
”But now you’re with us—”
“There should be no ‘us’ or ‘them’, that’s kind of the point of all this jazz, Curtis.”
Curtis just blinked at you. You could see the idea behind your words not quite computing within his mind, a mind that had always lived in the darker part of a dichotomy. And a part of your resolution melted away.
“Let’s do this another time,” You laid one hand on his, urging him to put his coat back on.
“Sure you’re ok without the coat?”
“I’ll survive. My blood is still raging hot from our fight earlier.” Curtis was a little bummed at your joking dismissal of his concern, but he knew there was no use pushing you.
“Children, let’s say hello to our guests from the tail section...” To her credit, the pregnant teacher kept her countenance as she took in the group of torn coats and ragged shoes filing past her, Tanya and Andrew getting their grease-stained fingers on a student’s face every once in a while when they thought he resembled their sons.
“Today is the first day of the new year, so we have a special little treat,” the teacher said as a well-dressed, clean-shaven Gerald walked in, to everyone’s surprise.
Amidst murmurs of “Is that Gerald?”, your eyes glazed over, thinking about his wife back in the tail section and her broken hand. And your resolution crumbled further—surely the train could have made room for one more violinist? A cloudy silhouette of the previous violinist took form in front of your eyes—was she the first chair of the Viennese Philharmonic? You couldn’t quite recall, except for the fact that she played at the weekly fete.
You were so lost in thought, and music, to have noticed Egghead walking down the aisle, handing each child a New Year’s celebratory egg.
And then, came the most traumatic three minutes of your life.

Black!Bella (New Moon edition)
wc: 1.7k
So the summer is here and Bella is on cloud 9
Without a doubt one of the best summers ever
When her leg healed up, Charlie took her hiking just like when she was little, or they’d go to La Push to look at the tidepools or they’d just go to Seattle to visit the aquarium
Sleepovers with Jessica and Angela where they’d stay up watching Studio Ghibli movies, binge watching the Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar YouTube channels, giving each other makeovers and giving each other recommendations about skin care products
Long conversations with Renee about college
Renee thinks Bella should try a school in New York
Charlie wants her to go an HBCU
She never told Charlie that she filled out applications for NYU and a school in Louisiana that she liked, and that she was expecting to hear back from them soon
Bella and Edward would spend hours at their favorite bookstore chain in Port Angeles looking through the summer releases
They went there so much they were offered membership cards where they’d get 15% off every purchase
Sleepovers with Alice where Bella would constantly ask her what she saw in that C*nfederate
Bella’s first few weeks of school fall around the same time as her birthday
She doesn’t have that many classes with Edward or Alice which she finds odd since Forks High is a small school
Bella’s birthday is pretty much canon
Renee gave her a gift box of her favorite Godiva chocolate, makeup and skincare products while Charlie got her a Nintendo Switch with a few games so they could play against each other on Mario Kart.
The birthday party is still the same and ends in disaster
Edward starts distancing himself from her, and so does Alice
Alice doesn’t wait for her outside her art class so they could walk to physics
Something is wrong, Bella can feel it in her bones even though Angela and Jessica tell her that it’s probably nothing
Bella is bracing for whatever is coming. Could it be Victoria seeking revenge and Edward doesn’t know how to tell her?
Something worse, much worse
Bella listens to him tell her that they have to leave Forks and it takes her a minute to realize that the Cullens have to leave town without her
“In the hospital, you said you’d stay!”
“As long as it was safe for you, and after what happened at the party, it’s clearly not safe for me to be around you, Bella.”
Edward kisses her on the forehead one last time before he leaves, probably forever
Charlie isn’t home from work so she just works on dinner in a daze with the television volume up as loud as she can stand it, NCIS blaring from the living room
Charlie confronts her when he finds out that the Cullens left town and that’s when she just cries, acknowledging it for the first time in hours
The following weeks after his departure are touch and go.
She goes weeks without getting her hair braided, and just keeps it in a bun/poof
Bella doesn’t wear makeup no matter how many times Charlie tries to entice her with the Vogue YouTube channel
“C’mon Bella, you love Saweetie,” Charlie said as if she were a toddler again, trying to get her to eat Cauliflower
It isn’t until Charlie calls her mom that she snaps out of it and Renee tells her what she needs to know
“Bella, I know you’re going through a hard time, but you have other things you need to be worrying about. It hurts, I know, but moping around ain’t gonna bring him back, and you’re not the first person to be dumped. You’re getting ready to graduate high school in less than a year, and you need to start thinking about your future.”
Renee had never spoken to her like that before but she realized her mom was right, she did need to start thinking about her plans for the future
After giving herself two more days to cry it out, Bella gets right back to business
She’s blasting Flo Milli while she gets ready for school, gets a new wardrobe and is now tutoring kids in school and La Push for some extra cash
Which is how she runs into Jacob again
She helps him with biology which turns into Charlie coming home and finding the two of them watching Guy's Grocery Games and arguing about which contestant they think is getting the boot next
Not that he’s complaining. He’s secretly hoping they’d get together
One Friday night in February, Bella invites him to the movies with a few friends from school
And it starts to go downhill when Jacob threatens Mike, who got sick halfway through the movie
Jacob reveals his feelings for Bella but she has to reject his advances
She loves Jacob, he’s been so sweet to her, but she cannot handle another relationship when she’s barely over the first one
When Bella calls him on Saturday morning to apologize, he doesn’t pick up the phone or answer any of her texts but she thinks nothing of it, chalking it up to him being sick
The next time she calls, she calls the house and Billy tells her Jacob is feeling better but that he’s not up for visitors, so she takes matters into her own hands
She spends the entire morning parked outside his house waiting for him
Bella doesn’t recognize him, he’s a lot bigger, his hair is shorter and his usually warm brown eyes look cold
Jacob tells her to go home and not to come back and Bella knows that Sam finally got him like he did Embry and he proceeds to tell her how he’s not good enough for her like the Cullens and alludes to the fact that he knows the Cullens’ secret
“You’ve been lying to everyone. Charlie… but you can’t lie to me, Bella. Go home. Or you’re gonna get hurt.”
She just stands there in the cold rain, getting soaked from head to toe, and she can’t tell if she’s crying or if it’s just the rain hitting her face
She has a strange dream involving a brown wolf the size of a horse, Jacob, and surprisingly, Edward
Bella confronts Jacob again, this time almost getting into it with Paul who turns into a wolf right in front her
Embry and Jared take her back to Sam’s house where she meets Emily
Bella and Emily get along well, and she finds out Emily is from the Makah tribe in Neah Bay, but she’s an elementary school math teacher’s assistant at the tribal school
She’s relieved when Jacob comes back to the house, safe and free of scratches and they walk along the beach and catch up
Bella is just happy that her friend is back and she vents about what’s really been bothering her: the encounter with Laurent, saying that Victoria is still looking for him
“You don’t have to worry about them. We took down the one with the locs easy enough.”
It doesn’t register for a minute so she just stands there, trying to make sense of it. “Y-you… killed Laurent?”
At this point, Bella is crying with tears of joy, her mascara smearing with tears and Jacob just holding her
Their friendship is back to normal in no time and pick up right where they left off
Bella has to remind Charlie, Angela and Jessica several times that she’s not dating Jacob
Not that she hasn’t thought about it
It would be so easy, and both of their dads would be happy, and she wouldn’t have to lie like she does with Charlie and any of her friends
One day they’re just driving around, goofing off when she sees a group of kids jumping from the cliff
She’s getting her phone out to dial 911 before Jake stops her and tells her that they’re just cliff diving
Jacob offers to take her sometime, maybe when it’s warmer out, promising they’ll start at the lower level
It’s dark when they pull up to her house and Bella starts to invite him in for dinner when she notices a familiar car parked down the street
Bella remembers everything about that car, the quiet engine as she sat in the back seat while his C*nfederate brother drove them to Phoenix, the feel of the leather seats as she slept.
They go in anyway, and Bella is surprised to see Alice sitting on the couch reading a magazine, but she needs Bella’s help because Edward is in trouble
The audacity. The sheer fucking audacity
“I haven’t heard from you in almost a year. You avoided me in the halls, you blocked my number and my email, but now when you reappear from thin air I’m supposed to help you? What do I get out of this?”
Alice insists that Edward needs Bella’s help, that she can’t do this without her
At this point Bella knows that Charlie put a tracking device on her phone, and she’s not going to risk it
Jacob begging her not to go, and she really doesn’t want to go either
Instead she writes a quick letter telling Edward not to do what he’s thinking of doing just because they’re not together, saying that she’s happy with how her life is and she gives it to Alice to pass along
Despite EVERYTHING that happened, she wants him to be safe, so Bella gives Alice the letter
“What does this mean? Would they come back?” Jacob asked after Alice had left.
Bella knows what would happen if all of the Cullens came back: more young Quileute kids turning into wolves, and she doesn’t want that to happen, but she can’t stop it from happening either
“I really have no clue, but that’s their decision, and I have no hand in that game.”
It takes three days before the Cullens return to Forks, and she’s facing Edward again one day in the woods behind her house
Bella just tells him everything she’s been feeling since he left and more
“There isn’t any hope for us, there probably never was, and we can’t pretend any of this never happened, Edward. You know that. We can’t go back to normal, because it wasn’t normal in the first place. You were right the first time, and I should’ve listened.”
It goes without saying that Bella is going to keep the secret, but she’s also going to move on with her life, and wants Edward to do the same
