You see I fucking love Jason grace but the fandom makes me absolute distaste him because the only way they find to boost his character is to have to push other characters down.

It’s the same way how the fandom treats Nico. We see this with Piper and Reyna especially, Piper is turned into an abusive asshole that Nico saves Jason from which makes no sense because Piper was nothing but great to Jason.

In Reyna’s case she is turned into a fucking love interest, you know the only confirmed aro and ace character in the whole book series. Like people please stop shipping aroace characters it’s not hard! Percy also mildly suffers from this because people always to bash him to highlight how great Jason is.

Ps: I don’t hate Jason as a character it’s just how the fandom treat that I have an issue with.

I’ve been seeing this thing around about rating pjo ships so i thought I’d give it a go 🤠 no personal offense if i don’t give your ship a high rating, i’m pretty particular except for when I’m not

Percabeth - 9/10. love them loads, but could have gone without the judo flip + other odd behaviors that are only seen as “cute” because the sexes are flipped, otherwise they’re great

Jercy - 1/10. i can see potential i guess but also there’s just a lot of better options for both of these characters imo, plus i see them as bros

Valgrace - 10/10, to storm or fire the world must fall, best friends to lovers, no notes

Solangelo - 2/10. i can see…the potential. their “significant annoyance” scene gave me the warm fuzzies as a 14 year old looking for rep. but oh my god how they’re written in canon sometimes is just so bad, it ruins fanon for me as well. not to mention the one-dimensional-ization done in order to amplify the “grumpy x sunshine !!!1!” trope. however i will say Some solangelo fans understand that they should Both be freaks (and in that AU it’s a respectable 8/10 from me) and the ship has fantastic fan artists

Shelper - 2/10. no hate i’m just bored…like who is shel?? tell me one thing about her personality. does she get any dialogue?? richard??

Jasper/Jiper - 1/10 the fake memories were cute but the inside of pipers head did not pass the Bechdel test. would love to see them as platonic soulmate roommates though

Jeyna - 1/10 the devotion is admirable but yk. can relate being aroace and latching on to some dude lmao

Theyna - 4/10. not my cup of tea but in a world where either they aren’t hunters or it’s an interpretation where the hunters can be lesbians…it’s a good ship. haven’t really seen much for them but I’m open to it. might prefer them as a platonic buddy cop duo though

Pernico - 4/10 i see them as annoying cousins but i respect the angst potential of unrequited love. i don’t think the ship as endgame would be good for either of the characters. however, again, really good fan artists

Jasico - 10/10 the drinking out of the chalice scene was hot don’t look at me. really good fan artists etc. i should write more with them

Valdangelo - 10/10, yk how i feel about pushing my blorbos together and making them kiss lol. massively underrated, read ceaseless eve, etc

Pipabeth - 7.5/10 i like percabeth more but it’s my favorite piper ship. I haven’t seen much content with them but i’ve liked what i have seen. I might make some stuff with them

Rachbeth - 2/10, the potential is there i guess but i see them as best friends

Perchel - 8.5/10 i guess i’m in the minority but what makes the pjo love triangle so compelling compared to other YA love triangles is that Both of the ships are really good. idk what to tell you they go well together

Lukercy - 6/10 i see the potential but if you’re going for dark fic vibes i think lukabeth is better

Lukabeth - 9/10 the dark fic potential has me chewing the furniture. wouldn’t ship them as like a fluffy endgame but that’s not the point

Frazel - 0/10 richard please let two people of the opposite sex be friends

Caleo - -100000000/10 nothing could be a better crafted anti-caleo fic than canon itself

i left pjo fandom in like. 2017 lol im so curious what happened in 2020??

Oh god so much happened I don't even know where to begin.

So many callouts so many people got cancelled multiple discord servers filled with minors being told they were being protected from creepy adults but ended up being weirdly sexual. Then there were whole servers with people who would go and attack specific tumblr users for whatever reason they so wished for. There was also this collective blog of people who would do callout posts and they called out multiple popular artists in the fandom for "sexualizing minors" (aka the characters of pjo) but the sexualization was just like drawing them shirtless or beach wear

then there was Reyna is ace / no Reyna is lesbian / Reyna can be both discourse and them anyone who disagreed even slightly got horrific anon hate and gore sent to them (including yours truly). And then there was pipers depiction is racist / frazel is predatory / cancel Rick Riordan / happening at the same time.

Also the whole thing got divided into Asian pjo tumblr and black pjo tumblr and idk some black artist drew frank as black and the Asian side got mad bc frank was Asian and idk infighting got ugly like you're sinophobic no youre anti black etc etc it was bad. And people who weren't involved got asked to pick sides.

And then there was shipping discourse again. Perachel had a minor resurgence so you'd see the worst takes known to mankind abt them and the Thalia and Reyna shippers would harass anyone who shipped Reyna with anyone except Thalia (esp if they shipped her with a guy) and then there were these Republican Annabeth headcanons that got people so mad and there was the making of Connor and Annabeth and some people got really pissed off at that.

I'm definitely missing out on the Instagram side of stuff but like GOD...it was so bad I just fucking left the main fandom wxcept for the jeyna side

Non-Canon Ships in the Percy Jackson Fandom

One thing I really hate about a loud minority of people in the Percy Jackson fandom (which needs to be addressed, so I’ll address it) is that they’re so intolerant to non-canon ships. Most of the other fandoms I’m in either don’t have canon ships in the first place, or are completely open to all ships. A loud minority of people in the Percy Jackson fandom are just so stuck on P3rcabeth, S0langelo, etc. that they’re completely closed-minded when it comes to other ships, like Percico or Valdangelo or Piperbeth. And I don’t mind that they don’t ship these non-canon ships, I mind that they constantly hate on them (“I hate Percico so much, S0langelo and P3rcabeth for life”, “Lol, Percico sucks”, “I’m glad Percico never happened” on Percico fanart and videos and fics, like wtf even is your reason for hating it?? Cuz it’s not canon??).

They bash ships constantly just because it challenges their own ship. Not even because it’s ~problematic~ or anything, just simply because it’s not their own ship. It’s like they try to find excuses to hate on these ships, because they’re such control freaks and they think everyone should only stick with the canon ships, or that the canon ships are somehow superior to the non-canon ones (despite the various issues with the canon ships tbh, but that’s not the point I’m trying to make). Anyway, I don’t think any of them have actually grasped the point of fandom yet......it’s simply annoying that they go on posts of other ships specifically to hate on them, when they could ignore it and move on with their lives and their canon ships. Like God, just let non-canon shippers have some fun, let them ship what they want. It’s not threatening your ship in canon, and it’s not forcing you to ship non-canon ships, so just leave them alone.

Can you explain more about the reverse role thing with Jason and Reyna. I feel imma agree with you but it wasn't fully clear

there’s no canon proof that they were anything more than casual friends and colleagues, so the fandom saying Jason was a jerk for not being more soft with Reyna when they’re reunited makes no sense to me. He didn’t owe her anything and just because she thought he should be into her doesn’t mean they were best friends or that he had feelings for her too or owed her anything.
