5/5 Re-read
Tumblr media
This was a re-read. I didn’t plan to, but I ended up staying up all night to read it. It was on my book cart and I just felt the urge to read it again.
The writing is very compelling. I love the characters, the story, the well used placement of all the Shakespeare quotes. This is a very well written debut novel that is dark academia and literary fiction. I think this is a modern day classic for sure.

Book review: Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
Rating: 4⭐️
Howl’s moving castle is one of my favourite movies of all time. And now I read this, a source of inspiration for Miyazaki’s work. Of course, it’s different, and I don’t mind it. The movie has more war elements attached to it, while in the book it was just mentioned; Howl in the book is a drama queen, while in the movie we idolise him as our future husband ahahah; I loved both of Sophie’s versions, she’s such a boss lady; and I liked how in the book we have more connections with her family. I wish that at the end it wasn’t so rushed and we had a bit more of romance.

I haven't been able to complete or read a book like I used to in a long time—maybe Dune will fix me. It's making me crazy, and I can't wait for the book to arrive.
The ONLY time that Timmy Chimmy would drive me crazy.

Honestly? 100% accurate. This may not be the most rave review my book has gotten so far, but it's definitely one of my favorites. Read the whole thing here.

Okay so first- I have to explain something. This is the first book- but I started it before I threw new year started even though I said I wouldn’t. This book was for Christmas but came late. It would have been in the poll or I wouldn’t have made the poll if I knew this book was coming. I’m starting The Eye of the World in the morning.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
I am so glad that this was a Xmas gift. Like YAY~! I have been raving about this since it came out. I needed this so bad.
Right when I opened this, it felt so good. Like coming home. I missed Eragon and The Inheritance Cycle. This book focuses on Murtagh and Thorn, my favourite characters from the main series.
The writing is easy and very immersive. I flew through this book. I absolutely loved it. I loved getting into Murtagh’s and Thorn’s heads. I loved their dynamic and I’m glad we got to see way more of it.
I really hope this continues, like I don’t ever want The Inheritance Cycle to end.

My big takeaway from GoodReads so far is that I'm the only one of my friends who a.) really doesn't like fantasy and b.) reads a pretty even fiction/nonfiction mix

Storygraph, a one-year review
At the beginning of this year I switched from using Goodreads to an alternative site called Storygraph. I heard about the site through a Leena Norms video and decided that yeah, a book tracking website that isn't affiliated with amazon sounds great. Especially since you can export your goodreads data and import it to Storygraph so I didn't even lose my ever expanding TBR list.
Well, I've been using the site for a year now and my honest review is that I love it! While I still only tend to use the 5 star scale when I review books, the review interface deliberately makes space for more nuanced and genuinely helpful reviews. I also find the book organization system much more intuitive. If I remember correctly it even tracks rereads instead of overwriting previous data. There are other features, like buddy reads, which might interest those who use goodreads more like a social media site than I, but I cannot review them because I haven't personally used them.
If you're interested in ditching goodreads but haven't yet because you like to track your reading, I highly recommend giving Storygraph a go! It does everything I used to use goodreads for and is better at it
