One more question and then I’m done. In chapter 8 the LOTF says:

“This is ridiculous. You know perfectly well you’ll only meet me down there—so don’t try to escape!”

I’ve been overthinking this line for such a long time. Does he just mean that Simon can’t escape the LOTF/beast because, if he goes back to the beach, he’ll find the beast is already a part of the other boys? Like how Simon found them when he was killed?

Or does it have to do with the religious stuff? Like the LOTF being Satan? Is “down there” hell? Is Simon suicidal? Does this tie in to him feeling unwanted and out of place on the island?

I guess my main question is, where is “down there?” And what does he mean by “escape”—escape from the LOTF? From the beast—like the savagery? From the fear?

I’m sure there’s an extremely obvious answer that my dumb self is missing, but I can’t land on one that feels right to me. What does everyone else think?

Everytime I read The Lord of the Flies the mentions if them wiggling their loose teeth hits me so hard.

It's obvious that they're children throughout the entire book but something about them loosing teeth, right in the middle of so many deaths.

Its the best example of show don't tell that I've seen in a while.

My ‼️unpopular‼️ opinion on lotf is that the relationships and dynamics are far more interesting when they’re not romantic and i was kinda disappointed when i looked into the community after reading it and seeing most discussions were about potential romance and how most characters were just boiled down to it. Generally no ships really interest me in the slightest but I don’t know what i expected when i went onto tumblr for discussions on lord of the flies but its such a niche interest that its the only active community i can find on it

(Another being how the fandom is always on the cusp of sexualising the characters and always finds ways to age them up which i find really creepy knowing most of the people doing this are like 10 years older than them)

It would have been great if they had made a remake of Lord of the Flies back in the 2016-2017 when the it cast were still kids.

I just had an idea for a crossover so crazy that it just might work.

Most have asked the question of “What if Peter Pan was like Lord of the Flies” for edgy retellings, but here’s an idea:

What if instead of landing on a random island, the boys from LotF somehow ended up in Neverland?

The original Peter Pan is already kinda dark (Neverland is a land of children’s fantasies, but it’s made clear that it’s a land filled with danger as well, with everyone hunting after one another), so things can still get intense if you want to play around with the implications of the OG story, and still have fun with the alliances between the groups, especially now that you have Peter and his Lost Boys, the “Indians”/Natives, and Captain Hook and his pirate crew thrown into the mix.
