My 2023 Fanfiction Wrapped

Hi everyone! It's ya boi spreadsheets back with another fanfiction wrapped! This time I actually took the time to make it look really pretty (see: I half assed this in Google Slides for my discord server's swampmas wrapped event lmao).

Without further ado, here's what I read this year.

2023 Fanfiction Mini Guide

These are fics I rated 7/7 stars on my guide that I would FULLY recommend everyone read if you're into these fandoms or ships.

Stranger Things

Gen (Steve & Robin)

As He Sinks Just Like A Stone by saintmares | Rated T | 5k

The words "Steve Harrington is sooo strong" had always made Robin Buckley roll her eyes. After all, what did it matter if some stupid jock just so happened to use his muscles a bit more than other people? But when her life comes crashing down inside a secret underground Russian elevator, Robin finds a new appreciation for the strengths of Steve Harrington... at least until she has a startling realization about her best friend and his fleeting mortality as the Party patches up his demo-bat bites.

Black Out Days (Fairground Nights) by OonionChiver | Rated E | 140k (background Ronance)

‘I think,’ Steve says slowly, reaches for Eddie’s abandoned, untouched beers. ‘You don’t know me very well.’

‘I don’t know you at all, man. I don’t really want to.’

Steve’s throat works. It’s subtle, but Eddie sees it. He hides it with a swig of beer, but when he sets it down, his smile isn’t quite so bright. Twice as sharp, though.

‘The self-centred asshole who can only be decent to a single human being, I get it. It works for you.’ Then he takes a thick, heavy breath. The alcohol is hitting him, Eddie can tell. ‘And I am being civil. I’m here, aren’t I? You have any idea how hard it is for me to be here?’

‘In a bar?’

Steve doesn’t answer.

Star vs. the Forces of Evil

Monster Carvers by Raikim4Never | Not Rated | 70k (unfinished, but I think about it every day of my fucking life)

Fourteen years after Princess Star Butterfly is kidnapped from her cradle, a terrorist attack on The Underworld results in Prince Tom Lucitor being sent to stay on Earth. Meanwhile, the Monster Carvers plot to bring an end to all non-Mewmans, and Ludo learns of rumors that Tom was given the Butterfly wand for safekeeping…

High School Musical

Chyan (Chad/Ryan)

I Still Don't Dance by Rozavie | Rated G | 20k

Chad Danforth never thought that he would find himself here—washed up, past thirty, teaching at a high school, and divorced. Basically, everything in his life has gone up in flames. No longer being able to play his favorite sport, and coming off of an exhausting (although amicable) separation, Chad decides that it's time to focus on what he can control. Primarily, raising his daughter. As long as she's happy and healthy, Chad thinks that he can manage to be as well.

But when an old friend from high school stumbles back into his life, Chad's world gets just a little more interesting.

This headcanon lives rent-free in my head, constantly, and I was so disappointed in how GMW handled a lot of the adult relationships and stickier topics, that I just had to write this. It just might rot your teeth.

Sokka's expression is caught somewhere between determined and pissed off when he says, “I know you think this is your responsibility. But you’re not going to be alone in this. This is why we’re building you a council.”

“I know,” Zuko says.

“And the only way you’re going to die having done nothing but sit in meetings is if you let yourself do that. You’re not a bad leader if you take a break now and then.”

Zuko scowls. “What, so people can then say at least my father wasn’t lazy?”

Sokka tilts his head. “Don’t you think there’s a difference between laziness and, I don’t know, choosing life and happiness in spite of a terrible dad who tried to take both from you?”

Zuko is sixteen years old when he’s handed a crown, a throne, and a hundred-year ancestral legacy of colonial imperialism. He’s not scared of the work; he’s scared of being consumed by the responsibilities and burdens he’s claimed. What Zuko doesn’t quite realize, yet, is that he’s not alone in this.

Under the leadership of Fire Lord Iroh, the Fire Nation has made every attempt to restore peace and make amends for the harm they inflicted during the Seventy-Year War. Their newest proposal is a literal proposal: a marriage to unite the Fire Nation and the Water Tribes.

The Fire Nation offers Prince Zuko’s hand.

The Water Tribes offer Princess Yue’s.

Sokka is apparently the only person in the world who has a problem with any of this.

Will We Last the Night by CSHfic | Rated T | 144k

Chief Arnook never assigns Sokka to protect Princess Yue, so he goes to fight the Fire Nation with the other men. When the moon dies, and the ocean spirit takes its revenge, Sokka is caught standing on the deck of a Fire Nation ship. Sokka should have drowned… and he would have drowned, if not for a certain Fire Nation raft fleeing the North Pole.

[An enemies-to-lovers season 2 rewrite, where Sokka is separated from the gaang during the Siege of the North, and travels the Earth Kingdom with Zuko instead].

War Crimes by Lovely_Elbow_Leech | Rated M | 90k (MAJOR CONTENT WARNING FOR SA, CHILD SA, TORTURE, MURDER, AND VIOLENCE - PLEASE READ THE TAGS AND CONTENT WARNINGS)

Book one ends with two major diffrences: 1. Sokka went on the mission with Hahn (it did not go well) 2. Zhao survives the North Pole and that proves unfortunate for everybody (except Zhao, obviously)

Imprisoned on Zhao’s war ship, Sokka and Zuko have to work together to survive. They are not very enthusiastic about this prospect.

And they argue.

A lot.

War games by Lovely_Elbow_Leech | Rated M | 428k (MAJOR CONTENT WARNING, TORTURE, VIOLENCE, MURDER - Unfinished)

After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.

Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.

Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)

Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.

Her father may have made a slight tactical error.

In the Soft Light by CHSfic | Rated T | 84k

As the newly appointed cultural liaison to Northern Water Tribe, Zuko is the first Fire Nation Citizen to step foot inside the city's walls in nearly a century. He's determined to prove himself—to the Fire Lord and to his father—even if the Water Tribe's spirit-touched prince seems to want nothing to do with him.

Moon Spirit Sokka AU

These Things Written by Erisenyo | Rated E (Underage) | 222k

The letter was never supposed to be read, least of all by Sokka. But then, things happen every day that aren’t supposed to, in war.

Or,

On a particularly hopeless night, Zuko sends out a messenger hawk to nowhere. He didn’t realize that his messenger hawk is deeply committed to completing the job. And that Sokka happens to be traveling straight through nowhere, at the time.

These Things Known by Erisenyo | Rated E (Underage) | 400k (Third in series! There is a second one between These Things Written and These Things Known)

[Aang cuts him a quick, guilty look. “I didn’t mean to imply that you…”

Sokka raises his eyebrows. “That I…Focus on the present to the point of blindly committing to enormously questionable courses of action with significant long-term ramifications because they’re gratifying in the immediate moment, which is particularly concerning as our chief Maker of Plans?”

“Uh—That’s basically…Yeah.”]

Surrounded by danger and doubts, separated by war and one irrevocable decision—after the world of just-Sokka-and-Zuko crashes into the world of everything else, what comes next?

Or,

What happens when trusting someone suddenly means something far different out in the world than it did in the space of a Ba Sing Se teashop?

I'll Share the Moon, if You'll Share the Sun by anarchycox | Rated M | 400k

An alternate world where Iroh leads a coup against Ozai on the eclipse and wins the throne for Zuko. The southern water tribe hadn't sent men to fight in thirty years, instead protecting their home, laying traps, using guerilla tactics so the fire nation gave up fighting them.

Sokka and Katara found Aang, but being frozen in ice for a hundred years has ramifications and for almost four years the tribe focuses on healing the avatar.

Zuko is advised for continued peace to have an arranged marriage outside the fire nation. The best option is a the child of the chief of the southern tribe. Katara is in love with Aang and is heartbroken, but will do her duty for her people. Sokka finds a loophole that they can carefully and craftily exploit.

Aka they lie. They lie so hard and Sokka becomes the one betrothed to Fire Lord Zuko. He is sure there will be no consequences to the plan. Certainly not going to fall in love with the man he is lying to. At all. Nope indeedy, no love on the menu. Dang it.

Everything That I Am Not by Benedick | Rated T | 85k (Unfinished)

Sokka isn’t stupid. Not that his sister is, mind you (at least, he’d never call her that to her face now that she’s honed her waterbending), or any of the rest of Team Avatar, although sometimes it feels like he’s living in a different world from the rest of them — a world where running out of food means starving, and walking into a town full of firebenders with the Avatar in tow will get you killed, rather than help you free a beaten-down Earthbender colony.

Anyways.

Sokka isn’t stupid, which is why he laughs directly in Aunt Wu’s face when she tells him that he will marry the Fire Lord.

Month 3, day 17, got a couple more frames done on the face, but I had to stop because a) am sleeby tired, and b) the cat is so upset that I'm not settled down for bed, and therefor snuggles, that he's dropping gnarly cat farts at me. So, gonna go to bed and fix both issues XD

Beginner’s Guide to Faking Sick

Spoiler: This is an excerpt from The Chosen Twins

“Seriously, Master?” I echo, incredulously, “We already know the symptoms for this are a lot like a cold.”

He ignores me.

“I knew it,” Anina sing-songs, “He’s just faking. Maybe he read the Beginner’s Guide to Faking Sick before coming here. And now he just wants to make us worry about him.”

The death glare Obi-Wan gives her should have been enough to make anyone cower, but she just grins back.

I try – and fail – to smother my laugh. Because it really, really isn’t funny, since I know the symptoms of this could be serious, but honestly.

“We need to be focusing on locating those pirates,” Obi-Wan says, shortly.

“They’re long gone, Master. We’ll never find them now,” I point out, bluntly. We lost the trail entirely, but now that they know Jedi are coming after them, hopefully it will be enough for them to stop attacking the transports they were stealing from. I hate failing on a mission for any reason, so I hope this will at least have done something.

“We’ll assess the situation when we get back to the city,” Qui-Gon replies.“If it’s a we,” Aniya mutters under her breath, which I take to mean as another pointed indication that by the time we reach the city, I don’t know how capable Obi-Wan will be of helping us. The symptoms probably are going to get worse, after all, which takes the edge of my amusement.

Summary:

Eddie Munson died on March 27th, 1986. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. No, wait. That’s not right. That’s Hitchhiker's Guide. Or was it Restaurant at the End of the Universe? Whatever, not important. Eddie Munson died on March 27th, 1986. Except…he didn’t. He couldn’t have. Because Eddie Munson is currently arguing with himself in his fucking head about sci-fi quotes, which doesn’t feel especially like something that a dead person would have the capacity to do. The bats had killed him. There had been pain, and the sick sensation of tearing flesh. He’d had to swallow past a mouthful of his own blood to tell Henderson he loved him. Surely those were symptoms of imminent death. And yet. On April 1st, 1986, Eddie Munson opens his eyes in a dim hospital room. There’s a gasp from his left, and he tries to turn his head towards the source. “Easy there, kid. They’ve got you trussed up pretty good.” Eddie doesn’t need to see him. He’d know that voice anywhere, in any universe, hell dimension or otherwise. “Uncle Wayne?” A story about the families we find and the love that finds us.

You were so ecstatic when you brought your little kit home. You couldn't wait to see what those magical drinks would turn you into. A little mermaid for 24 hours, a vampire for a week, invisible for 4 hours…

You were so excited that you didn’t read through everything, you eagerly took one of the little phials in your hand ready to bottom it up. For the first try it was the brownish liquid that caught your attention, it just looked like some cocoa and you were kinda craving something sweet so maybe…

But as soon as you drank it you felt something shift within you. First of all it didn’t taste at all like cocoa, nor sweet at all, more like some barbecue sauce for some reason.

You felt some tickles all over your head and backside also on your fingers and inside your mouth

Meanwhile you started frantically reading through the instructions to be sure about the creature and the time you’d be turned into. But before you could even decipher the paper your eyes locked on your reflect and you almost squeaked in purr ( hehe pure ) joy

“Oh that’s so CUTE !” so screamed jumping up and down, your hands shooting to touch the pretty ears standing proudly on your head “And so soft” you laughed in delight

Then your attention went to the fluffy cat and the amazing fangs you had ( fangs are the best thing in the world ) even your gaze shifted slightly, and you could even grow claws if you focused on them

After this moment of pure joy passed you dived back into the instructions and what was your surprise when you read that this effect wouldn’t waver in 6 months ! ( let’s be true I wouldn’t mind but for the sake of this fic reader is going to think otherwise )

Your legs took you faster than you though in the kitchen where you knew Itachi was surely doing the dishes, you knew he would be eager to help you whatever it might be

When you barged in the kitchen, you slightly forgot that he wasn’t prepared to see you like this “Itachi I might need your help with a little something…”

“Yeah what is it-” but then he turned around “Good heavens Y/n ! What are you playing at ? You almost gave me a heart attack” he said, but he was way more surprised than what he let you see

“What do you need help with ?” he said drying his hands, he didn’t know why but he just wanted to touch those cute ears “Can I touch those ?”

You nodded as he instinctively brought his hands to rub your silky ears “It says I’ll stay like this for 6 months… it’s just that I have a mission in a month and I can’t just go like this” you hoped he knew a way that would help you get back to normal before your mission

Though he only chuckled and he pulled you closer to his chest “Don’t tell me you hoped I’d help you after you decided to do this on your own, did you ?” he chuckled, he could be such a tease when he wanted, but of course he would always help you in the end

He slowly pushed you towards the living room, cuddling on the couch with a soft kitty girlfriend seemed all of a sudden very inviting. You let him guide you and lay you down on the soft cushion of your couch

“So are you going to help me ?” you asked once more

“Mmmh” he got comfortable next to you, his head nestling in your neck and he took a breath of your parfum “And what if I prefer keeping you like this a little while longer ?” he whispered, bringing a chuckle to bubble in your throat

“Then I’ll have to scratch your cloak to pieces” your answer brought a wide smile on his lips

“Ooh would you ?” he kissed your cheek softly, having you in his arms always had a de-stressing power over his soul, but now he didn’t know if it was the whole cat thing but he just wanted to stay here and feel you in his arms

“Maybe” you whispered back in his ear, sending shivers down his spine. His arms tightened around you pulling you impossibly closer. He shifted slightly to press a tender and loving kiss on your forehead

“Well then I think I can’t refuse to help such a fierce kitten now, can I ?” he teased, making your cheeks grow warm

“I’ll do everything for you, you know that” he added, as his hand played with your fluffy tail

You nodded against his chest “And I’ll do just as much for you” you spoke softly nuzzling against his chest

You didn’t know at this time how powerful this experience would impact Itachi at his core. Don’t worry he’ll help you get rid of those ears and tail in time for you to go on your mission. Through when you’ll get back you’ll be meeting another member to your little family, a pretty little kitten that he was going to modestly name Oliver

(( Yes I looked on Internet for this name, and yes it’s the most given one 😭 but it’s just so pretty ))

Madara Uchiha :

First of all he is way too protective of you to let you buy such stuff on his watch, so it’s needless to say that you did it on your own

The transformation in itself was surprising but you didn’t really mind. Who didn’t dream of being a cat ? 😍

The only thing you were stressed about was Madara’s reaction. You just knew he was going to call you reckless and tell you how dumb it was a dumb thing to do. Forgive him, he has already lost so much and he wasn’t planning on losing the light of his day

That’s why you tried to hide it, but you knew he was going to find out anyways

You hid your little ears under a hat. Though as you were about to get out of the bathroom you remembered something you weren’t supposed to forget : that newly fluffy tail of yours

How were you going to hide it- suddenly the door handle moved as someone tried to get inside “Y/n ? Are you in there ?” your man said from the other side of the door, he was surly about to wash his hand after coming back home from a little errand

“Y-yeah I’ll be out in a m-moment” your voice wavered and you mentally slapped yourself

As expected, your tone made him suspicious that something was happening there “Is everything okay ?” he said a bit louder and you almost jumped out of your skin

You pushed your hat further down on your head as if it could swallow you “Can you open the door please ?” he said, his tone demanding. He just wanted to make sure you were alright

As you unlocked the door though, you were quick go back to the edge of the bathtub to sit there, this way he wouldn’t be able to see you fluffy wriggling tail

Soon enough he entered, his eyes already daring all around the room until they locked on your sitting figure. He slowly made his way towards the sink to wash his hands even though his eyes remained on you

He knew you were hiding something “What were you doing here ?” he asked. He wouldn’t have asked if you weren’t just casually sitting on the edge of the bathtub ( it’s really a “when the imposteur of sus” 😂 )

You kept your mouth slightly closed as you answered him, mindful of the little fangs that would be protruding from your mouth otherwise, giving your little secret away “I was… brushing my teeth”

“The sink was dry” he simply said, not daring to bluntly tell you he knew you were lying

He took a step towards you, a storm of thoughts swirling in his head. He wasn’t used to you lying to him like this and he wondered if he was aloud to use his Sharingan on you to understand why the hell you were behaving like this

“Y/n” he warned, his eyes shining with worry “What is happening ?”

But then out of the corner of his eye he saw something move behind you and he jumped forward, his eyes impossibly widening “How did you- are you out of your mind !” he said. Poor mew mew was just incredibly worried

Once the surprise was over he couldn't help but sink on his knees and take you in his arms, breathing in your scent “Next time you’re doing something this stupid I’m getting back at you” this was of course an empty threat

Once he calmed down he looked up at you from his spot on the floor, his head still on your lap “When will it wear off ?”

“Erm… hehe 6 months” you answered, your tone making it sound like a question

He gently shook his head, a smirk creeping his way on his lips “Of course it’s that long. I shouldn’t have thought any less from you” he teased, and that’s how you knew he wasn’t angry

The next months went by as if nothing had happened, except that his hand found a new spot on your head, just between your new cat ears. His big hand was wide enough to reach and pat both of them. It felt heavenly

He loved it almost as much as you when he saw your fluffy tail sway next to you, sometimes lightly grazing his lap. He loved to draw some purrs out of you, an evidence of how dearly you appreciated his kind attention

There are times I will use gendered pronouns in a work, but again, these pronouns are not meant to specify identity. Other than that, you are welcome to imagine the Readers identity as you like.

You were not. You had fallen asleep a few minutes back, your chest slowly rising and falling by the rhythm of your breathing, little snores escaping until the noises finally died down and there was no sound but the closing of a book and the shuffling of the bedsheets.

Cillian didn’t know why you always insisted on bedtime stories. You were almost an adult, about to go to college and mature in every way. You liked to debate with your friends, to discuss philosophy and life, and on occasion, you even divulged to him your fantasies, sexual ones — things you never talked about with your mother. He supposed it was something about the comfort, the nostalgia of childhood, to have someone you trusted tuck you into bed and kiss you goodnight.

Cillian brushed your hair out of your face and started to caress your cheek affectionately. He loved you, that was the one thing in this world he was sure about. His broken marriage with his wife, your mother, had long past the stages of blissful happiness, and the only thing keeping him in this unfaithful marriage was you, his stepdaughter, his very own sleeping beauty.

He couldn’t imagine a future in which you were absent. These past ten years, where he had watched you grow up, learn and fail, and guide you to be the person you were now, felt the most important of his life. If you were gone, what was he supposed to do? Dwindle away his life with work? Pursue a fruitless romance with another woman? No. His life’s purpose was here, taking care of you, protecting you like no other man could do.

You needed him, and as it turned out, he needed you.

You turned around in bed, instinctively moving your body near Cillian. Tropetember is a multifandom event celebrating everyone’s favourite fanfic tropes, held during the month of September. There will be a trope prompt for each day of the month, but this is only a guide - feel free to choose any of the tropes as you wish.

The Magic Behind the Architect’s Hands

Character: Kaveh x reader (gender not specified)

Genre: Fluff (slightly sensational and tinglingly)

Word Count: 539

Something you really like about Kaveh is his artistic slender hands.

His hands, slender as whispers, wield the brush of an artist's soul. Fingers, long and graceful, danced across the canvas with an elegance that mirrors the strokes of a love letter written in the language of creation. How the pulse of creativity coursed through those large, tender hands, each touch leaving an indelible mark on the tapestry of art and architecture.

It was breathtaking to just stare at them.

What more to hold them?

While engrossed in individual work projects alongside Kaveh one day, weariness settled in as your attention drifted from your own tasks. Your attention wandered, captivated by Kaveh's hands. A mesmerizing sight as one hand delicately wielded a feather brush dipped in ink, rhythmic taps resonating, while the other hand gracefully shaped a corner of his blueprint.

It was like watching an elegant dance. Mesmerizing, majestic.

Then your gaze started to drift, thinking about how soft his hands might be, yet slightly calloused by his architecture duties. Before you knew it, you unconsciously reached your hand out to grasp his.

"Y/n, what are you up to?" Kaveh teased, a playful glint in his crimson eyes, momentarily shifting his focus from work to your intertwined hands.

You scoffed, feigning a look of hurt. “Does it have to be anything bad, my love?” You began to trace the lines on his palm, as if tracing the lines of a page.

“I suppose not,” Kaveh hummed, giving you a warm grin in response.

You played with his fingertips and explored the sides of his hands, committing each and every detail to memory. Gradually, you brought his hands to your lips, delivering a gentle kiss. A faint blush made its way onto your lover’s face as you continued.

“Y-Y/n, you're distracting me from my work,” Kaveh said with such a goofy smile on his face. His eyes even held a flustered glow as you gave him a sly smile.

“Then why don't you take a break, hm?” With a final, tantalizing kiss to his fingertips, you sensually traced your fingers along the velvety texture of his cheeks. Inch by inch, guided by your playful smirk, you drew your face nearer to his, your gaze lingering provocatively on the expanse of his bare chest.

Kaveh's blush bloomed across his face as his eyes looked at everything but you. His breath became heavy, very naughty thought popping into his head.

“Y/nn… Stop your magic and control yourself!” Kaveh whisper-yelled.

“Oh? Then look at me, love,” you positioned his face to face yours, and eventually Kaveh's shy eyes finally met yours. “Ahh, there are the eyes I love seeing the most.”

“Y/n!” Kaveh whined, fighting a childish grin with a frown. Though he failed miserably.

“Your hands, Kaveh, are sculpted from the heavens above. Take care of these beautiful hands of yours not only for the archons above, but for you and me.”

No bard could capture the majesty of Kaveh's celestial gaze, the blush that adorned his countenance, or the rhythmic dance of his heart upon hearing those words. His smile expanded grandly as he leaned forward, bestowing a kiss upon your forehead.

“Thank you, my beloved.”
