Grayson sat up against his headboard, phone in his hand, continuously swiping his thumb right. He was looking at pictures he’d taken during the game, but mostly, he was looking at pictures he’d taken of one particular player; Lyra Kane. The girl who’d called him months back. “What begins with a bet? Not that.” Were the first words Lyra Kane had said to him when she first called him. She was insanely stubborn, yet also independent– that’s probably what made her stubborn. She was also breathtakingly gorgeous. Stunning. Pretty. Beautiful. He couldn’t find any words nor synonyms to truly describe her beauty. Her laugh was contagious- She herself is contagious. Her laugh could somehow make him smile, to turn his lips upwards rather than his usual frown. And just right now, he found himself smiling at the thought of her. See, contagious. It’s not like what he felt for Emily. Emily was something he competed with Jameson for. To claim. It isn’t like what he felt for Avery either. For Avery, he felt a need to protect her. At all costs, but– that isn't what The Heiress wanted. But Lyra– Lyra, she was entirely something else for Grayson. What he felt for her felt like things his brothers had talked about. Grayson would listen while they go on and on about their loves, and Lyra felt like every bit of what his brothers said. Lyra once told Gray everything. Like, everything, from her childhood, to then. Even if she didn’t show it, some part of her is still deeply wounded, broken, lost. Much like Gray himself. He found himself relating to her in multiple ways. They both used cleverly crafted masks to hide their broken past selves. They were only two damaged people, trying to heal each other. And perhaps that’s why Grayson found solace in her. He could only hope she did in him as well. Perhaps the fact that they’ve snuck out for their little rendezvous gave him a little hope. They’ve gone to the island’s beach, coffee shops, movie theaters, and dinners. Grayson eventually told Jamie about it. “You’re in love, Gray, and it's not like when you liked Emily. It’s better, I can most definitely promise you that.” Jamie said, and maybe for once Grayson did believe him. Maybe he is in love with Lyra Kane. Grayson Hawthorne is most definitely in love with Lyra Kane.
