001.   TO BE HUMAN - MARINA //
I like to think about how we all look from afar // People driving fancy cars look like beetles to the stars // The missiles and the bombs sound like symphonies gone wrong // And if there is a God, they'll know why it's so hard // To be human  (Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh) // To be human
Still, I don't know, don't know what it means // To be human, a real human being // To be human, I want direction // I wanna feel human again // To be human, lost my direction // I wanna feel human again // To be human, to be human // To be human, to be human
002.   THE DEVIL WITHIN - Digital Daggers //
I'll keep quiet // You won't even know I'm here // You won't suspect a thing // You won't see me in the mirror // But I crept into your heart // You can't make me disappear // 'Til I make you
I made myself at home // In the cobwebs and the lies // I'm learning all your tricks // I can hurt you from inside // I made myself a promise // You would never see me cry // 'Til I make you // You'll never know what hit you // Won't see me closing in // I’m gonna make you suffer // This hell you put me in // I’m underneath your skin // The devil within
003.   IN MY ARMS - Plumb //
Story books full of fairy tales // Kings and queens and the bluest skies // My heart is torn just in knowing // You'll someday see the truth from lies // Knowing clouds will raise up // Storms will race in // But you will be safe in my arms // Rains will pour down // Waves will crash all around // But you will be safe in my arms
Castles they might crumble // Dreams may not come true // But you are never all alone // Because I will always, always love you
004.   JUDGEMENT DAY - Stealth //
Of all the love I have taken, all the hearts I've turned to hate // Hearts are easily broken when you've been made in the shade I've crossed every line, broken every boundary // Now it's retribution time, 'cause the church that I went to // It ain't that holy Strike me down, take me away // Debts are due, it's time to pay // Face what I deserve // Here comes judgment day // I won't run, the guilt is mine // Too long denying all my crimes // Face what I deserve // Here comes judgment day
005.   A GRAVE MISTAKE - Ice Nine Kills //
But I heard that you reap what you sow // So around and around we go // And when you see my face you'll know // You can't save yourself or save your soul // When you meet the man whose life you stole // With withered wings and broken bones // A flight for the fallen, flies the crow // Can't save yourself
These vengeful thoughts trapped underneath // Rage, scorn, misery // Payback for what you took from me // Hope, love, sanity
No forgiveness, just farewell
006.   MY NAME (WEARING ME OUT) - Shinedown //
My name is worthless like you told me I once was // My name is empty 'cause you drained away the love // My name is searching since you stole my only soul // My name is hatred and the reasons we both know // Worthless, empty, searching, hatred // Well, who am I right now?
You're fucking wearing me out // You're always dragging me down // You're the fake, fallen force of nature's sick mind // I don't need a gun to take back what's mine // It's over, it's over now // You're done wearing me out
007.    DARKSIDE - Oshins, Hael //
Who can you trust? // Tell me who can you trust? // Choking on the fear
Do what it takes // You must do what it takes // The devil is not polite // One little lie // Or ten little lies // Won't keep you up at night // Will you cross over? // Will you cross over? // Will you cross over to the dark side?
If they call you // Backstabber // Betrayer // Black magic // That traitor // Backstabber // Betrayer // Black magic // That traitor // You made it to the dark side now
008.    MANNEQUIN - Yuna //
Are you here to waste time with me? // Cause time is all I have
I don't know what it means to feel whole // You're next to me, but I feel so cold with you // I will be your mannequin, love // Moving my lips the way that you want // Remain the same whenever you walk away
I am the deepest shade of jaded // Drowning from the past, love // Can you breathe, breathe love into me? // So I'll know what it's like
009.    NOTHING ELSE MATTERS - Apocalyptica //
[ I N S T R U M E N T A L ]
010.    NUMB - Linkin Park //
Every step that I take is another mistake to you (Caught in the undertow, just caught in the undertow) // And every second I waste is more than I can take
I've become so numb // I can't feel you there // Become so tired // So much more aware // I'm becoming this // All I want to do // Is be more like me // And be less like you
And I know // I may end up failing too // But I know // You were just like me with someone disappointed in you

okay. kidomomo time
momo made a comment about loving the sound of kido's voice and it made kido start to like. talk a lot more than usual. but kido didn't notice they were doing at first but literally Everyone else around them did and it's so funny. momo for sure isn't complaining.
you knooowww kido made a cringe momo playlist that they haven't told momo abot out of embarrassment, but it's okay bc momo has a few songs about kido written in her notes app. i hope they both explode we should blow them up
also time skip kidomomo time. hibiya complaining to hiyori on the phone about how he's cursed to be exposed to kdmm being all affectionate and shit and how it's hell living with them but in reality the most they've done around hibiya is. a peck on the cheek. but he's being overdramatic as shit and channeling his inner shintaro (one of the reasons momo calls him shintaro lite)
OMG KIDOMOMO JUMPSCARE IN MY ASKBOX
ok but kido starting t and having a deeper voice🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 momo is down so bad kido is being normal as hell and all of a sudden momos like i love ur voice❤️ and kido's like AUUUUYGGGHHHHH
like i was thinking of kidomomo so hard today bc theyre just so cute. every other kagepro ship i like has their tragic love story but kido and momo literally just met and are out there getting to know each other and its awesome. i was thinking of kido realising they like momo/momo likes them and is like Whoa....wtf........no way.......
momo permanently with her head on kido's shoulder. teehee. she's always holding their arm and snuggling on their shoulder/neck and kido's just standing there like a stick
YEAH!!! KIDO WOULD MAKE SO MANY PLAYLISTS FOR MOMO but MOMO DOES TOO!!! kidomomo are music bitches!!!!! hehe. imagine them going on a trip alone :3 and they both make a collab playlist together for the ride:3
also sooooo true hibiya is literally shintaro lite. that's so real. live hibiya reaction. i feel like shintaro's just insanely overdramatic like HAVE YOU SEEN the amount of times he just falls to his knees for no damn reason. he's hilarious. shintaro's out loud like AUUUUGGHHH STOP IT AUGHHH STOP IT MY EYES MY EYES (haruka and takane are just holding hands) while hibiya just makes faces and at most gagging noises. hibiyas also dramatic but sees what shintaro does so hes a little more self aware

The lilies you left for me
Pairing: Jaheyun x Y/N(f)
Genre: Angst, Romance, Arranged marriage, First love, Infidelity, will add more tags as I go lol
Warnings: use of swear words, mention of sex
Summary: Lily has been the hot topic ever since their artwork was displayed at MoMA taking the art scene by storm, but who is this mysterious Lily?
- Prologue -
Standing right in the middle of the large room of MoMA you could not believe you were finally gazing at your artwork displayed right in front of you, holding your first exhibition, and to say that you were over the moon is a lie, these past three years of hard work focusing on making your dreams come true had all paid off.
“Well if it isn’t Miss Lily herself” you heard a very familiar voice say. “Oh, hush Taeyong” you whispered back quickly to your best friend, worried that he would’ve been heard by someone. Yes, your artwork yes being displayed at one of the most famous art galleries in the world but you refused to publicly display your artwork in your name and opted to use a pseudonym.
“Please no one will ever find out that our own Y/N Lee is Lily”. Yes, Y/N Lee daughter of David and Mary Lee of Lee Industries is the mysterious Lily. To be honest you didn’t want to face the backlash from the public being someone influential you’d immediately think that they used “connections” to get their artwork displayed in galleries.
Taeyong couldn't help but pull you into a hug “I’m proud of you kido, truly”.
“Thank you, T, I would have been able to do this without you.” You murmured back to him.
Taeyong has truly been your anchor these past few years. You met him when you were at your worst and both being artists you guys supported each other.
“Hyunnie come quick, let's look at Lily’s artwork,” a soft feminine voice said, breaking your moment with Taeyong.
“Baby slow down, the art isn’t going anywhere” a familiar voice amusingly said. Your heart twinged as you had to see who it was. As you slightly turned around you suddenly made eye contact with those captivating brown eyes that belonged to your ex-fiancé “Y- Y/N..” Jaehyun whispered. After three years Jaehyun was still breathtaking as ever, his hair had grown longer since you last saw him, he looked the same as always, so handsome. You immediately grabbed onto Taeyongs hand for comfort, which did not go unnoticed by Jaehyun.
“Jaehyun? oh hi,” you responded ever so quietly.
“Hyunnie? Who’s this?” the woman curiously asked.
“Oh um, Jennie, this is Y/N Y/L/N. Y/N this is Jennie my- my girlfriend” Jaehyun breathed out quickly looking everywhere except at you.
Nice to meet you Jennie” you smile at her extending your hand out for her to shake. “You too Y/N” Jennie cheerfully responds.
“So how do you two know each other?” Jennie looks back at Jaehyun. “We were um....” “We’re old friends back from home” (not a lie technically because you did consider him a good friend before being together) you quickly answer Jaehyun looking directly at him “Right,” he slightly coughs back trying his best to avoid eye contact with you.
I guess his family did keep it on the down-low.
From the outside, you probably look as if you’re fine but inside you were trying your best to keep it together and the fact Jaehyun seems oddly nervous about this as you look up at him and he’s been painfully obviously trying his best not to even glance at you
“Isn’t it beautiful Hyunnie?” Jennie had been admirably gazing at your piece Premiere Rencontre (first meeting). That piece will always hold a special memory for you.
Flashback
You suddenly felt soft velvety lips on the back of your neck and strong arms circling your waist as you were painting. You turned your head back to see a very shirtless Jaehyun only wearing his sweatpants.
“Honey, what are you doing up?” you asked as you comfortably leaned back into him
“Well, I woke up to find my very cute fiance missing in bed at 3 am, so I had to see where she had disappeared to.”
“ Honey, I couldn't fall asleep and had a burst of inspiration to paint this” you gazed towards your painting filled with lilies and the glow of the chandelier. “Wow Y/N it's beautiful” Jaehyun gaped in awe. The painting represents your and Jaehyun's first date, a night you forever hold close to your heart as it was the start of your relationship with Jaehyun. He had gifted you with your favourite flowers, white lilies.
“Yeah.. it’s absolutely beautiful” Jaehyun responds but to your surprise he was finally looking at you as he responded. At that moment it felt as if you and Jaehyun were the only ones in the room. It makes it hard for you to swallow, and harder to breathe.
I need to leave. Now.
A/N: Feedback is greatly appreciated!

Petrichor
Hitsuhina Week 2022: Day 3: Summer Rain / Flying
Tumblr media
Rating: T / Teen for violence and a few swears
Setting: some time between chapter 686 and the New Breathes from Hell one shot.
Synopsis: Toshiro is forced to transform into the Hyourinmaru's Completed Form when a battle to protect a town in the World of Living from Huge Hollows turns dire, and Momo comes to understand the magnitude of her friend's powers.
AN: Okay, so as far as I’m aware it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not the wings Toshiro has while in the Completed Form actually give him the ability to fly (or if they’re there just for show). For the sake of this fic, they can and do.
Also:
I don’t know much about construction sites, but recently I walked past one that partly inspired this fic. The cylinders referred to in this fic is sections of a smokestack – you’ll know it when you see it.
Shikai Hyoketsu refers to the ability Hitsugaya has to freeze all four elements in front of him when an opponent has taken four steps after he has transformed into Hyourinmaru's Completed Form.
For those not aware, 'Petrichor' refers to the earthy scent after the rain lands on dry dirt; apparently it's stronger after a long period of warm, dry weather.
Finally, I'm not trying to make a running trend of including gifs in my fics, I swear (feel like I'm taking a page out of @pinkhairedlily's book, who always finds beautiful images and gifs to use in her fics) but I saw this one and thought it was fitting for this fic.
Hope you enjoy it!
_______________________________
The humidity in the air evaporates, and the frigid cold that settles in causes Momo to bolt upright.
This is bad. The situation is so dire he transformed.
Her throbbing ankle draws her attention downward; she has a deep graze all along one side of her foot and ends midway up her shin. Something feels strained or pulled in her foot. Her blood either stains uniform or it’s washed away by the now chilling rain, running down in bright red rivulets into the mud.
When she’d tried to land after being flung away by a Huge Hollow, she’d stuck her leg out behind her to try and land, but her foot gave way and skidded in the dirt until she came to a stop.
With gritted teeth, forces herself to stand, trying to keep her leg as straight as possible while stabbing Tobiume into the ground for leverage. She tries not to focus on the internal worried cries of her zanpakuto, she barely has the time to reassure her.
 “Lieutenant!”
Her seventeenth seat, Tomoko Suzuki, is backing from the clearing towards her, not turning away from the Huge Hollow they were battling against. The Hollow stands tall on two legs, its head the same height as the trees that surround them, and its shadow now falls over them as it stalks forward. Two of its over-long arms clutch the trunks of two trees as it leans forward. Its focus isn’t on Suzuki anymore, but on Momo.
She lets go of Tobiume, clasps both hands together, and raises them at the Hollow as yellow energy engulfs them. “Bakudo Four: Hainawa!”
The crackling rope flies from her arms and wraps itself around the Hollow’s torso. She cringes when only three of the four limbs became entangled in the kido, but she still turns to Suzuki.
“Suzuki-san, now!” she orders.
Without question, Suzuki releases her zanpakuto while lunging forward. She slashes at the Hollow’s legs, and with a wail it falls to its knees. She has no time to strike again when its one free limb swings at her. She just barely manages to dodge it by flash-stepping backwards.
“How long does the numbing last?” Momo asks.
“A minute,” Suzuki replies, now at her side. “But this isn’t a regular Hollow, so I don’t know.” She clutches Momo’s underarm, helping her to stand, and starts scanning the area. “How bad is your injury? We have to get you to…”
Momo frowns at her officer, who is staring wide eyed over her shoulder. She follows her gaze and gasps. She and Hirako had cast a long range concealment kido that covered the area in an invisible dome. It made it that the residents of the nearby town were none the wiser to the battle taking place. It must be weakening, because in the far distance there are a few humans standing at the edge of the forest, looking in. If they come any closer –
A howl brings their attention back to the Huge Hollow. It breaks free of Hainawa, the yellow energy ripped into disintegrating shreds as the Hollow falls forward and lands on its two lower arms.
“Shit!” Suzuki curses when its legs start to twitch make into motion. “Not even thirty seconds!”
Momo pulls Tobiume out of the ground and aims. “Snap, Tobiume!”
The fireball that shoots out collides with the Huge Hollow’s head, causing it to fling back and stumble a few steps away. Knowing it won’t be enough, Momo uses her free hand to starts drawing the symbols for Genki. Red energy emits from her fingertips as she chants “Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with horror and then claw --!”
With a roar The Hollow suddenly rises to its feet and charges at them, jaws wide and arms raised for attack. Momo shouts when Suzuki goes to meet it head on, about to order her to fall back.
Something blue and white falls behind it, and with it comes the sound of a blade stabbing through flesh. The tip of a zanpakuto shoots out from its collarbone. The Huge Hollows halts, eyes wide and its mouth agape. It doesn’t move, doesn’t even breathe, as if paralyzed in fear.
Suzuki skids to a stop, watching on with the same shock and bewilderment as Momo. Without warning, ice crackles and rapidly spreads out, covering the entire Hollow and the ground it stands on. No, the Hollow isn’t being covered in ice; the green and grey colours of its skin and yellow in its eyes have completely disappeared. It is frozen through to the bone.
The zanpakuto withdraws, and the sound it makes is as it were being drawn out of something solid rather than pulpy and living. Within seconds, cracks web from the blade had stabbed through, and the Hollow breaks into chunks.
Even before the last of the ice cracks apart, Momo knows who landed on the ground behind the remains of the Hollow. She clings to a nearby tree with a pained grunt, and it’s only when she looks up again that she sees Toshiro is rushing to her.
She fumbles out his name without realising as he nears. She’s seen him in Hyourinmaru’s Completed Form before – after Gerard had been defeated and he and Byakuya came to look for her and Shinji – but it still stuns her. Unlike that time, the ice that encases his arms and legs continue up underneath his shihakuso, his haori comes to just above his knee, and the sleeves remain almost the same length but the hakama come up mid-shin. He’s caked in dirt, his haori and drooping hair barely white, and there’s a chunk of mud hanging on his brow. Her concern for the latter must show, because he uses a clean patch of his uniform to wipe away the mud smeared on his face and neck. If it weren’t for their current situation, she might have found it funny how shrunk and dirty his uniform looks.
Face now relatively clean, he looks over, lips parting to say something but his eyes narrow at her ankle. He bends over to inspect it. “How bad is it?” he asks, his voice a few octaves deeper.
She tentatively flexes her foot back and it’s all the answer she needs. “Not good. I don’t know if I’ve sprained it, but I don’t think I can walk on it.”
He curses under his breath. “You won’t be able to flash-step with it.”
He looks back into the clearing, where several Shinigami are battling numerous Huge Hollows less than a yard away from them. It’s then she notices what he left in his wake: at least seven Huge Hollows were frozen through and broken apart just like the one he’d just taken down; some were in chunks, others had a part of them still standing. She knows one can get caught up in the heat of battle, but how hadn’t she noticed him fighting behind the Huge Hollow that was attacking her?
Now that she looks beyond the ice and through the sheets of rain, she recognizes a few of her division members, two of them rushing to the next clearing while one them finishes off a Hollow, cutting it through the mask. He too rushes to the adjacent clearing, dodging a Hollow’s fist along the way. The Hollow pursues, and it’s not the only one following them. Shinigami all across the battlefield are retreating with Huge Hollows following close behind.
Momo’s brows furrow. “What’s going on?”
Ice begins to form above Toshiro’s shoulder blades, drawing in some of the falling rain to become part of a set of wide, dragon-like wings. “There’s no time to explain it all, but everyone needs to head to the construction site right now.” Toshiro turns his attention back to her. “I’ll take you back.”
Momo goes to ask how, but then he holds out his arms. “What about Hyourinmaru? You can’t sheath your zanpakuto while you’re like this.”
“It’ll be fine, I can hold onto him while carrying you.” He turns to Suzuki, who up until this point had been slow to join them and only stared on in muted shock. "Do you have any injuries that'd prevent you from flash-stepping?"
She shakes her head.
“You know where the site is from here?”
She nods.
“Head there, you’ll meet up with the others. There will be a lot of Hollows, but it’s part of a plan. I wouldn't advise flash-stepping on the ground, it's too densely packed back there. Move through the trees if you can."
“Y-Yes, sir.” Then she looks to Momo, as if seeking approval for this set of orders.
It’s only then Momo notices that one of Suzuki’s glasses lenses are cracked, there’s the faint bruise forming on her temple just beneath a smudge of mud, and a shallow graze along her jaw. Considering this is her first mission facing Huge Hollows, she’s relatively unscathed compared to some of the other officers who had fought these types of Hollows before.
Momo gives a wobbly smile. “You’ve done well, Suzuki-san. Get going.”
Her seventeenth seat nods, then takes off in a sprint and leaps into a nearby tree.
Momo commands Tobiume back to her sealed state and sheathes her at her hip. “Before we get going, I’ll need to stop the bleeding.”
“We don’t have time.” Even as he says this, Toshiro looks conflicted.
Momo goes to reach into her shihakusho for the spare bandage she keeps on her for battles, but stops when Toshiro squats down, hand raised over her wound. “It’s only a temporary measure. You can break it off easily.”
Momo already knows what he intends to do, and seeing the urgency in their situation, she nods her consent. A small brush of cold encases her ankle and there’s a burst of cold that pierces beneath her skin. She clenches her teeth together but it does nothing to stop her strained grunt and instinctively shuddering away from him. She glances down; a very thin layer of ice encases the wound, so thin it’s almost barely perceptible, but it did stop her bleeding.
Before she can turn back to Toshiro, his arm comes around her shoulder and he's bent over with his opposite arm coming under her knees. She tries and fails to prevent a wince from coming out when he carefully lifts her. For her part she wraps her arms around his neck, trying to find something to hold on to that wasn’t the ice encasing his shoulders and the back of his neck, or the wings she only now just realised were not actually connected to him but instead floating a few inches away from his shoulders. She ends up grabbing on to the back of his haori.
He hoists her a little higher, angling his right arm in such a way that he holds her using his elbow and upper arm rather than his forearm and hand, allowing him to still hold Hyourinmaru upright. It also makes it that she’s closer to the side of his face. Again, if not for the situation and his injuries, she’d probably laugh at how he’s carrying her…or maybe blush, or both.
“This okay?” he asks without looking at her. There’s something resolute about him, but she isn’t sure if it’s regarding the situation ahead of them or to not turn his head and accidentally knock his head into hers.
“Y-Yeah,” she confirms. “It’s fine like this.”
It’s then she notices the thin sheen of ice covering cuts and abrasions on his temple, cheek, and jaw, and the  beads of rain that are frozen on the edge his jawline and collarbones. It’s no wonder there’s ice on his face; he’s freezing, and she has to raise her reiatsu just to not shiver. It reminds her of the air around them, how cold it’d become.
That’s when it hits her. The air wouldn’t have just changed here, but also in the town. And that meant… “Wait!”
Toshiro completely stops, eyes wide in alarm. He glances at her leg.
She shakes her head and points to the edge of the forest, where the humans still are. They’d gotten a few steps closer, with one of them shouting over their shoulder to the other. It’s faint, but she can make out “…sounds like howling…”
“What should we do about them?” she asks. “They might…”
“When we get to the site, this battle will be over quickly. During clean up, recast the spell with Hirako.” He tilts his head upwards. "Speaking of, that concealment kido you cast earlier, how high is it?"
"It's designed to conceal aerial objects that are three yards up from the ground."
Toshiro thinks for a moment, tilts his head to the sky and gives his wings a flap. It only then it dawns on Momo what he intends to do. “W-Wait, we’re not going to fly, are we?”
She leans her head back just in time as he gives her a bewildered look. “How else did you think we’d get there? I can’t flash-step through the trees while carrying you.”
Momo holds on to him a little tighter. “A-All right then.”
If she didn’t know him as well as she did, she would mistake the determination that hardens his eyes for anger. “I won’t let you fall.”
How did his voice get even deeper? Something about it made his words seem like a solemn vow, one that couldn’t be broken by any force in the Soul Society or World of the Living. She presses her lips together, but nods.
With that, he strides to the edge of the clearing. As he nears, his walk turns into a run, and just as the world around them is becoming a blur, he kicks off.
They’re airborne in less than five seconds. Momo shuts her eyes and muffles her yelp into his shoulder as frigid air thrashes around them, whipping loose strands of hair around her face. The rain has lessened, but the drops that pelt down on them are freezing. Her heart pounds against her chest and in her ears.
She trusts him. That thought alone is enough to make her open her eyes and lift her head back. At first, she’s mesmerized by his wings, watching them alternate between flapping and soaring. How he ever learned how to fly is beyond her, but he makes it look like the most natural and easiest thing in the world. But then she looks down and is suddenly out of breath. “Oh my--!”
“Did no one ever tell you to not look down?” Toshiro yells over the wind.
She can’t tell if he’s teasing her or chastising her, but either way she glowers at him, “I don’t exactly go flying every day, Shiro-chan!”
He’s about to retort back when a chorus of howls comes from below. Hollows are everywhere, chasing after Shinigami who as all running the same direction. Some with projectile-based shikai stop to attack the Hollows gaining on their comrades before continuing their retreat. If she could free one hand right now without the risk of upsetting their balance, Momo could shoot kido down upon the Hollows as well.
“Maybe now would be a good time to tell me your plan!” she advises. “Why is everyone retreating?”
Toshiro’s eyes narrow. “I’m going to use Shikai Hyoketsu.”
She tenses. She hadn’t seen the power up close, but he’d explained it to her. However, seeing the hordes of Hollows below, she can understand why he would think to use it.
“I can’t predict how far it will reach,” he continues, “but at the construction site, there’s a place for everyone to hide in.”
Momo thinks for a moment, trying to remember what was at the site. There’s a crane and a few other vehicles, an massive incomplete factory building held up by steel frames and covered in some parts by tarp, various beams and pipes lay stacked up around -- She gasps when she realises. “Those long cylinders?”
He nods. “It’d say get into the structure, but it’s not enclosed. At least with those pipes everyone can gather in the middle, away from the ends.”
“But what about the surrounding trees? Won’t they be caught up in your attack? If the humans notice some of the trees are gone…”
“I’m going to try and keep my power concentrated in just one area.” He glances at her. “Truth is, this is all a risk, but the battle wasn’t turning in our favor.”
She couldn’t argue with that. Even before she’d been knocked away the Huge Hollow, she could tell the injured had outnumbered those still able to fight. This battle had been hard on him too; the fact he’d transformed was evidence enough of that, but maybe it’s just as well he had.
Despite the elements thrashing against her right now and the pain flaring up in her ankle, she manages a stable, sincere smile. “You’ve been training in this form a lot, right? Before, you didn't want others touching you while you're like this in case you froze them, but you've clearly trained enough for that to not be a problem anymore. If you think you can do it, I’m sure you’ll be able to!”
His lips part at that, but nothing comes out. He looks away when a shadow of a smirk forms on his lips. He says something, but with the roaring wind and rain, she can barely hear him. “Always the same, even in times like this.”
The site comes into view. Huge Hollows are cramming large clearing in front of it, some even crushing tree trunks in their wake. They’re only being held back by a line of eight Shinigami standing in front of the tall fence surrounding the site – five using their shikai abilities, and two others trying to maintain a barrier kido cast all around the site that is on the verge of dissipating. She senses before she spots Shinji at the front of the line, using Sakanade to disorientate the Hollows. He aims his attack at a group of Hollows trying to get around the side, and they’re sent fumbling back to the rest of the horde after he shoots a Hado spell at them. Those not part of the line are leaping over the fence and sprinting to the cylinders to get inside one of them.
When Toshiro tightens his hold on her, Momo knows what’s coming next.
“As soon as you’re on the ground, I’m going to the front,” he warns as her world starts to dip downwards.
She grunts in acknowledgement and loops her arms tighter around him. Bringing his wings closer to his back, the descent is fast. Momo presses her lips together to stop from screaming – more from the pain in her ankle than from fright. Her skin burns from the cold and she’s forced to squint her eyes.
Shinji’s head whips up to them, and as soon as he sees them, he yells orders up and down the line. One of the Shinigami breaks away from the line and looks up at them as he rushes to the cylinders – Higuchi, Fifth Division’s seventh seat, Momo realises.
Toshiro angles himself to land, feet out first and wings flaring back. Momo involuntarily closes her eyes and tucks her head into Toshiro. Before she knows it however, the rush of air has stopped and everything is still. They’ve landed.
She lifts her head and gasps for air, only just realising she’d been holding her breath the entire descent.
“You all right?” Toshiro asks.
She starts to answer, but her voice gets caught in throat. To her left not even a yard away, the Huge Hollows are being held off, and to her right Shinigami, many injured, are being helped into the two cylinders.
Higuchi is rushing to them, calling out to her. She nods at Toshiro, who takes it as a sign to lower her to the ground. He tilts her, gingerly putting her feet towards the ground. Momo touches her good foot to the mud and keeps the other hovering. She grimaces when she straightens and holds her arm out to her subordinate. Toshiro doesn’t let her go until Higuchi is completely supporting her.
She’s about to wish Toshiro luck and tell him to stay safe, but he’s gone in a flash-step.
“Suzuki-san told us it was bad,” Higuchi says while taking her to the cylinders. “Don’t worry, Lieutenant, we’ll get it healed now.”
It’s then Momo thinks to look down at her ankle. The ice had broken apart, and what few shards remained were becoming slushy with the rain that pelted down on them.
Only a few steps from the cylinder, she makes out silhouettes of officers gathered in the middle of it in a line. Their hushed voices echo out, most speaking rapidly and over one another.
She startles when Shinji flash-steps in front of her. “Captain!”
He barely glances at her, instead twisting around, half stepping into the cylinder and yelling down it, “Oi, we’ve got a sprained ankle down here!”
“I actually don’t know if it's sprained, sir.”
He leans to her and whispers, “You want to get this thing healed or not?”
“There might be worst injuries that need to be attended to.”
“Nah, from what they told me at the front, aside from you the worst has been Yamazaki with a broken arm, but he’s got one of Fourth Division with him, and Furakawa had a head injury but that’s been healed up.” He gets into the cylinder and holds out his hands. “Now come on, I’ll help ya in.”
Higuchi holds on to Momo as she plants her good foot inside. The cylinder is wide enough for most to stay standing – if she could jump, she still wouldn’t be able to quite reach the top. With a hand on one of the curved wall, she shuffles in two steps, and then Shinji takes over, bending over slightly and slinging her arm over his shoulders. After Momo thanks him, Higuchi rushes off to the other cylinder.
Now that she’s out of the rain, she realizes just how sodden she is. Her uniform is stuck to her, and the loose strands of hair – somehow miraculously managing to mostly stay in a bun – are stuck to her neck and forehead. At the first jitter that quakes through her, she raises her reiatsu higher.
“Getting toasty,” Shinji teases. “Good thing too, maybe you can dry everyone off in here.”
If she weren’t in pain, Momo isn’t sure whether she’d laugh or voice the indignant quip Tobiume says in her mind.
Hasty footsteps echo up the pipe, along with even more hasty apologies along the way. Momo almost manages a grin; it’s been a while since she last saw Hanataro.
Shinji lowers her to sit a several meters away from the pipe’s entrance. By the time he straightens, Hanataro has reached them. “Captain Hirako, you’re hurt –”
“Got the patient right here,” Shinji says while jerking his chin at Momo.
Hanataro hesitates for a second, then kneels down at Momo’s side. “Lieutenant Hinamori,” he says in way of greeting.
“It’s good to see you, Yamada-kun,” Momo says.
Only a little light makes it towards the middle, but it’s enough for him to examine her leg. “I don’t think it’s sprained, but it’s definitely a deep wound. How did you get it?”
As Momo explains, the Shinigami she’d seen on the frontline flash-step past. Shinji, who had sat behind Hanataro, goes rigid. “Shit, he must be about to start.” Down the cylinder he shouts, “Suzuki, Kobe, set up the kido now!”
Momo watches Suzuki’s silhouette hurry down to one end while Kobe comes up to her end. Both of them are trying to avoid stepping on the legs of all the officers who try to make way for them.
Her attention is brought back to Hanatro when raises his hands over her wound. “This may hurt at first, but only for a few seconds.”
With a short chant, the teal glow comes over her injury. She hisses when pain shoots up from her ankle and all the way up her leg, but just as Hantaro said, it dulls away almost just as quickly. In its place is the usual tingling that came with these spells that mellows into a calm pulsing sensation. Both she and Shinji watch the raw red patch over itself, and then her skin gradually knitting back together.
At the sound of a kido being cast, Momo looks from end of the cylinder to other. Kobe and Suzuki each back away from the orange barrier they’d cast. Both go back to where they’d been sitting, with Kobe giving Momo sympathetic look along the way.
“Hitsugaya told me what his power does,” Shinji says when she looks to him for an explanation. “Thought it’d best to be cautious. Matsumoto should’ve done the same in hers too.”
Now that pain and urgency don’t have a hold on her, she can sense Rangiku in the cylinder next to theirs. Her reiatsu is stable, she mustn’t have been injured – or at least, not severely.
In faint light and the teal glow of the healing kido on her end, she finally notices the wounds of nearby Shinigami. There are two more glows down the line, one in front of Yamazaki and another in front of an officer she didn’t recognize.
Closer by though, her captain has a long scratch that stretches from the middle of his forehead to dangerously close to his temple. The dried blood dripped from that end and down the side of his face. Like everyone, mud is smeared on his face, neck, and uniform. Behind him, an officer she didn’t recognize held his leg with two bandaged arms, and behind him was another who was completely caked in mud from head to toe, her wide eyes looking at the Shinigami to her left – Yumi Takagaki, Fifth Division’s thirteenth seat - who tries to shirk off her concerns for a gash on her forearm. It takes a moment for Momo to recognise the mud caked officer as Narita, eleventh seat from Tenth Division.
She knew they were in bad shape, but with the exception of a few, it seems most had an injury of some description. She’s thankful Shinji and Toshiro decided not to bring any unseated officers who hadn’t experienced combat before, this would have been too much for them to handle. She didn’t want to put them through what she, Izuru, and Renji experienced as Academy students.
She remembers the horror of that day with a furrowed brow, from their senior being impaled on a Huge Hollow’s limb to thinking she and her friends were all doomed, and she had been the cause of it. Aizen and Gin briefly come to mind, but unlike before, she doesn’t cringe at the thought of them.
“Almost done,” Hanataro says, bringing her out of her memories. “You should be able to walk for-”
At the flare of ice-cold reiatsu, everyone hushes. Shinji twists his head over his shoulder, as if he can see through the cylinder to where Toshiro stands. “Had no idea he could raise it that big,” he mutters. “If he ain’t careful, he’s gonna freeze the whole damn forest.”
“He can do it.”
Shinji blinks at Momo’s determined look. “Huh?”
“I didn’t see this ability up close, but if he thinks he concentrate his power to just one area, he can.”
Shinji doesn’t look convinced as he resumes looking over his shoulder. “Sure hope you’re right. Right now, I’m thinking we’re gonna need to replant some trees, maybe even rebuild this site after he’s done.” With a tense smirk, he adds, “I’m sure Hiyori and the others know where we can hire an extra crane and forklift.”
Momo allows a weak chuckle, knowing he’s trying to lighten the situation. “We won’t need it. I know he can –”
A chill permeates through the concrete and settles on everyone’s skin.
Hanataro stops the kido and tilts his head upward. Without having to glace down, Momo knows he’s healed her completely; but he doesn’t move to heal Shinji or anyone else. Everyone is completely still, as if they have been frozen by Toshiro’s power. They’re listening to the Hollows, how some of their roars turn shrill, and their stomping footsteps are starting to head away from the site.
The kido at each end flickers, and beyond them, as the rain continues to fall, a sliver of sunlight cuts across the mud.
And then, all sound ceases.
It’s a few seconds later when a downpour of hail hits something metallic in the distance, and then a crackling sound, the same as when water suddenly turns into ice. In the circle they can see to the outside world, the trees aren’t frozen, and neither is the ground. The sunlight grows a fraction bigger, coming over the now stabilised kido and making it a brighter shade of orange.
“Is it over?” someone asks.
When no one answers, Momo reaches her senses out. Toshiro’s reiatsu flickers, but something doesn’t feel right. Rangiku must have sensed it too, because she comes rushing past Momo’s end of the cylinder, heading towards her captain.
Momo starts to stand, using the curved wall for support, but Shinji stops her when he grabs her shoulder.
“The heck you doing?” he demands.
“We have to check on Hit – Captain Hitsugaya. Something’s not right.”
“Matsumoto’s got him. He was like this after fighting the Quincy too, remember? His reiatsu was all over the place.”
“And he was exhausted afterwards. He could barely stand. We need to help him. If Rangiku-san is out there, then surely that means-”
“Just wait a second!” Then, seeing that they had the entire audience of the cylinder, he leans in closers and says more quietly. “Look, he might’ve told you what his power can do, but he mightn’t have gotten all them. I know you’re friends, but until Matsumoto gives the signal, we’re not moving. If something’s gone wrong, you really think he wants you to get caught up in it?” He nods to her ankle. “Besides, is that even healed enough for you to walk on?”
“It is,” Hanataro confirms, who both of them somehow forgot was there. “Lieutenant Hinamori, you should be able to walk and run on that for a short distance without support. We can completely heal it once we get back to the Seireitei.”
She’s certain that everything is over, but Shinji could also be right. Rather than show her resignation, bows her head to Hanataro. “Thank you, Yamada-kun.”
“You’re welcome,” he says, smiling. “Now, we should look at healing you, Captain Hirako.”
“I’m fine, go heal Takagaki.”
But he’s already raising hand to the captain’s head. “This shouldn’t take a moment. As is, Imada-san has just finished with Yamazaki-san, so she can heal Takagaki-san.”
Shinji blinks at him with a furrowed brow. “Since when did you get so confident speaking to a captain like that?”
As if breaking the illusion, Hanataro stumbles out, “I-I meant no offense, Captain!”
“None taken. Just nice to see ya taking charge,” Shinji says with a chuckle.
Momo is about to chastise her captain for upsetting Hanataro, but then Rangiku flash-steps into view.
“Sir,” she says without looking away from her fellow lieutenant.
“Safe to come out?” Shinji shouts to Rangiku, his raised voice getting everyone’s attention.
Rangiku gives a thumbs up, but her smile is forced. It’s all Momo needs to push herself to stand. Something is definitely wrong.
“Rangiku-san just gave the all clear,” she calls out. “Suzuki-san, you can take down the barrier at your end. I’ll take it down on this end.”
After Rangiku runs to the other cylinder, Momo speedily walks to the barrier.
“Oi!” Shinji calls out, but with Hanataro healing him, he can’t move to stop her. She doesn’t look back at him as he cautions with a resigned sigh, “Watch yourself, all right? I’ll be out in a minute.”
“I will, sir.” It takes her only a few seconds to diffuse the barrier, and she gingerly steps her once injured foot out on to the mud.
In the slice of sunlight that comes down from a split in the clouds, everything glitters – the now gently falling rain, the drops of water clinging to the trees, grass, and construction site, and the puddles scattered all across the mud. It’s surreal, and for a second Momo forgets where exactly she is.
In the corner of her eye, officers are stepping out of the other cylinder, either helping the injured come out or suddenly coming to a stop when they turn to face the north, mouths agape and saying something in awe.
She follows their gazes, and the breath stutters in her lungs. The frozen Huge Hollows tower high over the construction fence, most contorted in similar poses – mouths and eyes wide and their limbs raised high or stretched out. She can’t tell if they’re out of panic or rage or a combination of both.
The sun beams through some of them, and it reminds her they’re completely frozen through, devoid of colour and life, like horrifying ice sculptures. There’s so many of them, rows upon rows of them, as far as the eye can see. In the back of her mind, she notes that as far as she can tell, not a single tree or any part of the construction site is frozen.
She shivers, but she’s certain it’s not from the cold or rain. It’s scale of it all; they were facing so many Hollows, and Toshiro had vanquished them all in a matter of seconds.
She’s taken out of her shock when Rangiku’s rushed footsteps come up behind her. Just as Momo twists around to look at her, to ask where Toshiro is, Rangiku comes to a stop. Tenth Division’s fourth seat, Kenichi Hanae, had been running with her, but now halts next to her.
“Lieutenant?” he asks, voice on the edge of breathlessness.
Rangiku doesn’t answer, instead she stares at Momo’s ankle. Her shoulders rise and fall as she pants, her breath faintly fogging in the air.
“Rangiku-san? Are you all right?” Momo asks, reaching out to her.
After a beat, she returns her gaze to meet Momo’s. “I’m fine, what about you? I heard from one of your officers you were injured.”
“I was, but Yamada-kun healed my leg. It’s okay for me to move around”
“And has Captain Hirako given you any orders?”
“No, but we’ll likely need to recast the concealment kido. Earlier, I saw some humans approaching the battle.”
“How far away were they?”
“They weren’t close, but I think they could hear something.”
Rangiku frowns at the ground, once again going into thought. “Then, if you can, I need help with my Captain. It shouldn’t take too long, I just need help carrying him here.”
The urgency in Rangiku’s eyes makes Momo nod without a second thought. “What happened? Is Hitsuga – Captain Hitsugaya alright?”
“I’ll tell you along the way.” Then, to Hanae. “Kenichi-san, change of plans. Tell Captain Hirako that Hinamori and I have gone to help Captain Hitsugaya, then instruct him and the others about cutting down the Hollows. Also, assemble one team to check on the concealment kido and another team to check that there aren’t any other openings to Hueco Mundo in the surrounding areas. If we need more help with the Captain, I’ll come looking for you.”
“Yes, Lieutenant.”
After Hanae rushes off, Rangiku looks to Momo and jerks her chin to the right. “Come on.”
She is quick to follow Rangiku, trying to keep her feet on patches of grass to avoid the mud. Behind her, Hanae shouts orders to those still able to fight to start cutting down the frozen Hollows.
The officers vanish from view when she and Rangiku run to the right and down in between a piles of various equipment and materials. Fallen hail crunches beneath their feet and the further they get away from the others, the colder it becomes. Momo can sense Toshiro’s reiatsu a short distance away; it rises and falls in calm waves, but there’s something strange about it she can’t describe.
“The Captain will be fine,” Rangiku reassures without looking back at her, “as you can tell, Shikai Hyoketsu worked. The only thing is, he’s in a bad way. He’s shivering.”
Momo blinks. Unless from fear or disgust, she’s never seen Toshiro shiver. “Why’s that?”
“He thinks it’s because he had to concentrate his power to an area rather than just release it in it's entirety, it took a toll on him.”
“Then, shouldn’t we get Yamada-kun or one of the Fourth Division officers? They can restore his energy and heal any injuries he has!”
“We will, but right now we need to move him closer to the others while he’s like this. He got worse after he transformed back, now he can’t move and can barely speak.”
They jump up on to one of a high stack covered in tarp and hail. Momo holds in a groan when her ankle gives a slight pinch when she lands on the tarp, but she keeps pace with Rangiku.
“I can’t carry him while he’s this cold,” the lieutenant continues as they jump across the piles, “it’s why I originally had Kenichi-san come with me. He has a fire-type zanpakuto, I thought his reiatsu might help.”
“But my reiatsu is bigger,” Momo concludes for her. “Mine can reach a higher temperature and greater range.”
“Well, yes, and…” Rangiku looks over at her, her lips curling into a smirk. “I think seeing a familiar face will help too.”
“W-What does that mean?!”
“Oh, you know!”
Momo doesn’t have time to retort, because Toshiro is just ahead, and she knows this without having to sense his reiatsu. One the stacks has a ring of ice encasing most of it, with jagged spikes pointing in all directions. She senses him behind it, low on the ground.
They jump back on the concrete and hail, landing near where the front line of Shinigami had been, but Momo is taken aback up the thin mist swirling around their feet. Rangiku makes a sharp turn to the right, not missing a step as she rushes to Toshiro, who sits against the ice-covered stack several meters away.
Momo's feet drag to a stop when she sees her childhood friend. The growing sunlight haloes around his completely hunched over. His head droops low, his eyes are hooded, Hyourinmaru lies out of his grasp by his side, and his skin glistens with ice and rain. Aside from the shivers quaking in his limbs, he looks as lifeless as a rag doll. The mist circles around him, distilled when Rangiku runs through it and kneels at his side. Their breaths come out in thick puffs, and Rangiku is shivering so much she rubs her hands over her arms.
As she approaches, Momo conjures up whatever she has in her to raise her reiatsu even higher. The effect on her is immediate, with her uniform and hair going from wet to damp. The rain that hits her doesn’t last long, clinging to her skin for several seconds before evaporating.
Toshiro stirs as she nears, and not even ten feet away from him, she hears him mutter her name. He tries and fails to raise his head.
“Never knew you could get yours that high,” Rangiku says. “The Captain will warm up in no time”
Momo smiles disconcertedly. “I’ll do my best, but I don’t know how long I can hold this for.”
However, at the sight of red dripping down Toshiro’s cheek, Momo stops. The thinner patches of ice on his skin have started to melt, and that meant…
Momo points to his face. “The ice covering his wounds…”
Rangiku uses a clean patch of her scarf to wipe away the small rivulets of red. “It can’t be helped. As far as I can tell, he’s not severely injured, just has some cuts and bruising. Right, Captain?”
Toshiro murmurs a sound of agreement. It makes Momo’s heart throb; she’s never seen him in such a state. She comes closer and kneels at his side. If not for her reiatsu, she’s certain the cold radiating off of him would’ve frozen the remaining rain on her skin to beads of ice. “I’m here, Hitsugaya-kun.”
He makes a slurred, startled sound when she tentatively touches the back of his hand. She clenches her teeth together, trying to ignore the piercing cold that shoot through the tips of her fingers. She concentrates her reiatsu through her palm, and the remanents of the ice encasing his arm and the beads of rain slowly dry away. His skin warms up a few degrees.
Momo pulls her hand back and reaches over grab Toshiro’s right shoulder. She gently pulls him into her, and brings up her other arm around his front, hugging his side into her. She can’t prevent a wince coming out, but she endures the freezing cold, waiting for the ice melt his hair and uniform to dry, and his temperature to rise. To her right, the ice covering the tarp is melting, slowly breaking apart and trickling down to the concrete beneath their feet.
Toshiro head lolls on to her shoulder, but he otherwise stays limp. He slurs out something and tries to widen his eyes, and Momo tilts her head. She’s not certain, but she thought it was an apology.
“D-Did you say s-something?” she stutters out.
Then, unknowingly – because surely, she thinks, he would never do this when he is more conscious – he closes his eyes and nestles closer to her, his hair now tickling the side of her neck.
Rangiku watches on with a confused grin. “…This isn’t what I had in mind, but I think it’s working.”
Momo can only respond with an embarrassed smile, and she wishes the rising temperature and color in her face was due to her reiatsu. I hope he doesn’t remember this later...or that Rangiku-san tells him!
As they wait, Momo notices just how tired Rangiku looks herself. She managed to avoid getting most of her uniform muddied, but her hair is frizzy at the ends, and there’s a bandage wrapped around her forearm. She leans against the stack, still smiling but she’s stuck in deep though at her lap. Momo knows if she weren’t concentrating on warming up Toshiro she’d appear the same.
She then looks to her left, at the Hollows frozen less than twenty steps away from them. Unlike the ones she saw before, most of them were not trying to run away or showed any sign of panic. Most are looming high over the fence, facing the ice-covered stack. She can imagine Toshiro standing on top of the tarp, facing the hordes of them without hesitation. Some were getting ready to attack, limbs pulled back to hit him, others crouching down to leap at him or springing forward, one limb still in contact with the ground while the other was bent mid run. The ones that would’ve been closest to him have their jaws unnaturally wide open, leaning over the fence with their limbs lunging out to him. One looked like he had gotten dangerously close to swiping her childhood friend, it’s clawed hand only a few meters from where he's stood.
She shakes her head, trying not to think about it and instead focus on the task at hand. She takes in and lets out several deep breaths to calm herself. With each breath, a new scent comes to her, one that had been hidden beneath the smell of blood and the sour odors Hollows gave off. It’s that sweet, earthly scent that only comes with the rain. She lets it fill her lungs, even closes her eyes for a moment to focus on it.
“You did it,” she whispers to him. “I knew you could do it. The Shinigami and the humans in the nearby town, everyone is safe because of you.”
He says and does nothing, and she wonders if he even heard her.
It’s a minute later when his temperature begins to rise, and a few more after that when he moves his legs. Taking it as a sign they are ready to move him, Momo slowly pulls away and puts his back against the tarp.
With a nod to Rangiku, they each take one of his arms and hold it across their shoulders. He groans as they ease him to stand, but he raises his head and move his feet. They support him as he bends down to pick up Hyourinmaru and sheath him across his back.
Save for Rangiku reporting on how each of Tenth Division’s officers were, nothing is said on the way back to the others. Fatigue sets in when they're halfway back, and Momo struggles to keep her reiatsu high. It sputters, like a fire struggling against a gust of wind.
Momo looks to her fellow lieutenant. "Rangiku-san, I don't think i can keep this up."
"It's okay, we're nearly back. Lower your reiatsu if you need to."
With a long exhale, Momo's pressure ebbs away to a manageable level. Though Toshiro had warmed up, some of the cold still lingers, and she and Rangiku both shudder for a moment in the absence of her reiatsu.
Momo's mind wonders in the silence, and she once again thinks about the magnitude of her friend’s powers. She knows he isn’t a fan of Hyourinmaru’s Completed Form, but she wonders how he feels about having an ability like Shikai Hyoketsu. She remembers the awe and hints of fear in the officers' eyes when they looked upon the frozen Hollows. It occurs to her that if she didn’t know him, she’d likely be slightly terrified of him after seeing that. How could a anyone have such power? What drove him to achieve these abilities with his bankai?
It makes her wonder if the children in the Junrinan somehow knew about his then-untapped power, that they could sense it before she did. She’d never been ignorant of his potential, had sensed a flicker of it almost as soon as she first met him, but never would have thought it would lead to something like this.
She comes out her musings when there's a loud crack in the distance. It's followed by several others, and over the stacks of equipment and materials they pass in between, the frozen Hollows are collapsing. In between the ice breaking, the shouting of the Shinigami echoes around the area.
Perhaps motivated by their voices, Toshiro's footsteps become more purposeful and his gaze less hazy. Momo doesn't realize how worried she was until a glimmer of relief flutters through her chest at seeing him more conscious. He's determined, steadfast gaze always looking ahead, his feet never faltering for a second.
This is why she could never fear him, no matter what powers he wields. He fights for others, reaches out a helping hand when needed, and never gives up. He's in the state he is now because he didn't want anyone to get caught up in his powers or to cause more damage to the area.
Knowing they are almost back with the Shinigami, Momo says to Toshiro, "I didn't thank you for saving me and Suzuki-san before. If you hadn't arrived, I think we would've been worse off."
"It was nothing" he says, voice raspy. "I should've gotten there quicker though."
She recalls the narrowed gaze he gave her ankle. "My ankle is fine now. Like I said, it could've been worse." A little lie, as she now becomes aware of the slight pinch it has with every steps she takes; she overdid it. She thinks to end it there, but then, for good measure and to make sure he truly knows, she adds "Besides, in the end, you saved the day for everyone."
They're less than fifteen feet away from regrouping with the other officers when Toshiro suddenly leans in and whispers into her ear. "Thank you."
Why is she so touched? It's not like he gave his gratitude and thanks rarely. Was it because of how croaky his voice is or the fact he whispered to her rather than spoke aloud? She turns her head to him, almost bumping her nose into his.
He has that expression again, where the frown in brow is softened and his eyes are unreadable, brimming with an emotion she has no name for. It's like he's seeing her, but not just in the present, but in the past. There's an affection behind it, as if he fondly remembers her from long ago and appreciates her in the present at the same time.
Her heart flutters, and despite her best efforts, she can't fumble out anything more than, "You're welcome." It strikes her then she has no idea what exactly he thanked her for. It must have been for carrying him back, but why does she get the impression it's not just for that?
"What're you two whispering about?"
Rangiku's teasing question breaks the atmosphere around them, like popping a bubble. Toshiro levels her with a glare so fierce it's a miracle it didn't deter her from laughing, and Momo flounders in trying to dismiss any allusions she had.
They round the corner, and their small argument stops when Tenth Division officers rush over to them. Toshiro straightens as they come to a stop.
Shinji, forehead now healed, spins on his heel to them when the officers call out to them. Despite the stern frown he levels at Momo, there's a hint of a smirk on his lips; it's a look that says, I'll let it slide this time, but we're going to talk about it later. All she offers in response is a rueful shrug of her free shoulder.
What little fear had been in some of the officers' expression is gone, and there is only concern and relief that their captain is back with them. As Momo hands Toshiro over to Kenichi, she knows if he didn't believe her before, seeing everyone gathered around him now would convince him. Everyone is safe because of you. The Shinigami and the humans in the nearby town.
She goes with her captain to the nearest edge of the concealment kido. Along the way, more clouds slowly part and the sun peaks through in the gaps, bringing back the humidity.
The continues rain, now glittering as it washes away the mud and remnants of blood from everyone. Along with the intensified petrichor scent, it's a soothing, much needed balm after the chaos of today.

Summary: Koushiro's first day working with Sora's father and Jou's oldest brother. “Daddy!” Megumi climbed on her parents’ bed and started jumping up and down. “Sweetheart, I’m trying to sleep.” “Mommy said it’s time for you to wake up. You’re going to start your new job today.” She sat down and crawled towards him after realizing he wasn’t going to move. “Daddy!” “I’m up.” Koushiro tapped over his bedside table looking for his phone, with his eyes half open. “Mommy made pancakes with chocolate sauce. She said it’s your favorite. Did you know it’s mine too?” “Really?” He sat down and pulled her down on his lap, immediately tickling her body. “Daddy, stop it! It’s itching!” Megumi couldn’t stop laughing as her father kept playing with her. “Are you ready to spend the day with grandma?” “Yes!” She exclaimed excitedly and then threw herself into his arms. “She said she’s making my favorite cake.” “Oh yeah? Are you going to bring a slice to me and mommy?” Megumi nodded with a smile. “And to Tentomon and Motimon too.” “Megumi, come have breakfast, so we can go to grandma’s apartment.” “Okay!” “Daddy will get ready and will be there to have breakfast with you in a few minutes.” “Okay!” Megumi ran to the kitchen as soon as Koushiro put her down on the ground.
Tentomon flew into Koushiro’s bedroom when he opened the door after getting dressed. He landed on his bed and watched his partner fix his red tie. “What do you think?” Koushiro turned around so Tentomon could see his outfit. “I think you look great! Are you excited for your first day?” “I am.” He nodded with a smile. “But I have to admit I’m a little nervous too. I never really talked to Sora’s father and Jou’s brother before.” “They are nice people.” “I know, but it’s a little more different now. They will be my work colleagues.” “I’m sure it will get better as the days go by. Besides, she said that she’ll be there with you, didn’t she?” “She did and I couldn’t be more grateful for her. She didn’t have to go through all of this.” “She’s an amazing person.” “She is. You’ll pull this off within no time.” “I hope so.” Koushiro turned around and gave one last look at himself in the mirror before heading to the kitchen. Keep reading it on FFN or AO3

BEFORE READING, I NEED YOU TO BE AWARE OF THIS:
1. all the ‘curse spells’ mentioned in this are related to Bleach (their use of Kido - credits go to: Tite Kubo) so these ain’t my original ideas since i started this at like 11pm on a saturday night.
2. there is some dialogue missing since this is from your perspective as a reader and not Fushiguro’s or Itadori’s
3. as you all know, the storyline isn’t mine, it belongs to Gege Akutami
4. this whole thing might be confusing and please don’t expect a part two because i will do it when i am ready or feel like i can at the right time ʕ ᵒ ᴥ ᵒʔ
5. i don’t know, if i am going to add this onto my masterlist since this was just for fun to be honest!
thank you so much for taking the time to read this and i hope you enjoy your free cup of classic black coffee (jujutsu kaisen) ʕ•ᴥ•ʔノ♡

“L/N, are you going to come with us?”
Looking away from the window you were viewing out from, you paused sipping from your carton of orange juice before turning your head to quickly discover two female students looking at you with anticipation in their eyes only for you to look at them in some sort of confusion.
“Come one, don’t tell me you didn’t hear about it? Coach Takagi and Itadori are competing!” one of the girls complained, obviously slightly annoyed at your oblivious nature to the news that was going around the school at this moment in time.
“Competing for?” you then questioned, as you stood straight from your leaning position causing the other female student to then rapidly answer by saying, “Coach is trying to requite Itadori for the nationals, so if he wins then itadori has to join the track club to compete!”
‘Huh? What a drag’
“So do you wanna come to the track field with us to see who is going to win?” the two students asked again in a desperate tone, leading you to look at the window you were previously looking from to see the exact location that they had stated. “I’ll watch from here, it has a higher and wider view, so I would have a better look” you replied, before pointing at the track field that was on the other side of the glass causing the students to look out before nodding.
“We really want to see it up close, so we’ll see you tomorrow yeah?” the first female student asked, leading you to smile and nod at them before seeing them rapidly take off to the track field trying to make sure they arrived before the competition started.
Turning your smile back into a straight line, you turn back to the window that you were looking through before being interrupted while placing your drink’s straw between your lips letting the sweet but citrusy juice flow down your throat. Admiring the view, you decided to let your eyes roam free for a bit to see if there was anything interesting to observe before the supposed ‘competition’ started, which then led you to pause at the sight of the closed rugby field down below.
Coming out of the ground was a horrific creature with four arms before climbing up the pole revealing its large teeth leading you to stare at it with complete boredom as you then mentally took a quick note to exorcise it later when the school closed. However, what also came into your sights was a single male student down before staring at the same curse you were observing causing you to continue analysing the situation.
‘Can he see it? I don’t recall a student here having any curse energy’
From what you could tell, the student had black erratic hair with his hands in his pocket but from what you could see that other’s couldn’t, there was a faint but noticeable aura of curse energy surrounding his body generating a feeling of curiosity but nervousness within your stomach as you place your empty carton away from your lips. Suddenly, the male turned around leading you to have somewhat a clearer view of him, only to discover that he also had a pair of emerald eyes which then made you come to the conclusion that he wasn’t a student from the school. How could he? You could tell this ‘student’, and yourself was the same age meaning you would have at least seen him once or twice down the hallways and there was no new information about a student coming in, if there was, it would have been a buzz.
‘Don’t tell me one of the clans managed to find out about me?’ you anxious thought, leading you to take a short step back ensuring this sorcerer didn’t have a vivid view of you when you did of him. Hearing some cheering, you turned your head to the other side to find a small crowd forming with a metal ball being flung as two students ran out to measure the length between the dip of the sand from the coach indicating to you that the competition had started.
“14 metres!’ the one student shouted, leading to a round of applause from the audience spectating the event. However, from what your ears were managing to pick up, there were cheers for Itadori leading you to wonder if you could recall the classmate they were shouting for.
“Ah~ Itadori Yuji ha?” you rhetorically asked the air around you, not expecting an answer in return. Itadori Yuji was a first-year student like you were, member of the small occult research club with second years Sasaki and Iguchi when he could be in any athletic club if he wanted to. However, understandably you knew some people would rather do something than what their natural talents indicated. Once again, you saw the metal ball being thrown - this time from the pink-haired students - only for it to land that the corner of the football goal, yet what was the shocking thing was that the metal of the goal was bent leading you to look at the sight within widened eye - of course, you knew Itadori was fast and strong but not to the extent of what you had just witnessed.
“Wow, no wonder he was called ‘Tiger of the West Middle’,” you muttered under your breath before quickly reverting your eyes to find the sorcerer you were wary of. Surprisingly, he was now on the track field looking upon the competition mixing well with the other students like a little chameleon. Although, before you could continue to observe the student trying to see what his intentions were, Itadori suddenly ran past him with his large backpack on, only for the erratic-haired sorcerer’s eye to suddenly widen the second they crossed each other leading him to reach out for your classmate. However, there was only dust to be collected as Itadori was suddenly out of reach.
“Just what are you trying to gain, sorcerer? It’s already a drag that you’re here,” you quietly mumbled irritation before turning away from the window you were gazing from to collect your school bag from your classroom since you left it there to not have the burden of carrying it on your shoulder. However, what you didn’t notice was the same sorcerer peering up at the same window you were looking from with perplexity painted on his face.
‘Was someone watching me?’
                                              ꕥ
“Don’t tell me someone got a hold of that damn finger?” you angrily stated, as you suddenly felt an immense amount of pressure invade the school causing you to wonder if there was anyone within the school with you right now, as you began to increasingly worry about whoever got a hold of the special-grade object that you found a few nights before.
“I put a protective seal on it, who the hell broke it!?” you muttered, as you panicky ran up the stairs trying to follow the presence of the object you were desperately trying to get a hold of before forcibly pushing a door open leading it to smash against the wall as you continued to sprint across the halls.
As you quickly turned the corner, you saw a large curse blocking the path leading you to instinctively flow your curse energy flow to your hand to the tips of your finger as you began to confidently recite the spell you were about to cast after you had finished drawing the symbol with your curse energy in the air.
“Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with the horror and then claw out your own throat! Binding Curse Spell number nine: Geki!” you chanted, leading to a thin light aqua aura of curse energy to surround the curse causing it to become completely paralysed. However, before you could cast another spell to destroy the curse, there was a sudden interruption causing you to look at the person in complete shock as they flew into the corridor from outside the window only for you to discover it was your own classmate.
“Itadori!” you screamed, only for him to grab what seemed like two people away from the curse as it was still immobilised from your spell leading you to turn to the side to find that it was both Sasaki and Iguchi in his arms causing your eye to further widen only for you to be then distracted by the curse being blown away to your direction leading you to use another spell to make sure you were caught in the process.
“Binding Curse Spell number eighty-one: Danku,” you hurriedly stated, leading to a large rectangular defensive wall to shield you away from the decapitated parts of the curse as well as the technique being used for it to explode the way it did. Unexpectedly, once the pathway was cleared you suddenly came eye to eye with the sorcerer you were peering down on the track field this afternoon causing a wave of uneasiness to consume your body.
“Who are you?” he questioned leading to the two dogs beside him to growl at you showing their sharp canine that could easily pierce your skin if he commanded them to. Slowly, your hand moved to the hilt of your katana that was hanging horizontally on your back, before quickly coming to the conclusion that it wasn’t difficult to slice the two dogs down if you desired to.
“Shikigamis huh? I should just cut the user down before they could reach me, then they would disappear’
“Oh L/N? What are you doing here?” Itadori asked in shock, leading you and the sorcerer to look at him before the sorcerer suspiciously asked, “you know who she is?”.
“She’s a student at my school, she is in the higher class since she’s smarter than me,” Itadori explained, as he took the time to check on his two club members with a sincere look on his face to then discover that they were unconscious with Sasaki in a decent state with Iguchi in somewhat the same condition but with injuries to his face. Letting your shield gradually disappear, you slowly walked up to your senior as you crouched down to hover a hand over his face letting a flow of curse energy begin to heal his wounds.
“Itadori, how the hell did they get the finger?” you angrily questioned the boy while continuing to heal your upperclassman causing him to look at you in shock - due to your acknowledgement of the object - as he caught the cursed object that slipped out of Sasaki’s pocket once he picked her up in a bridal style.
“How do you know about it?” the sorcerer then asked, only to be quickly silenced when you gave him a heated glare only for itadori to then explain that he was the one that picked it up for them since they wanted to sneak back into the school to unwrap the talisman for research for the occult club leading an irk to appear on your forehead. “Wasn’t there like a talisman paper placed on the door? You know like those like sheet of paper with Ancient Japanese writing painted on it?” you asked in a stern tone as you completed the healing process only for itadori to give you a questionable look.
“There was a hint of paper being there, but it seemed like it was ripped off,” itadori answered wearily, leading you to look up at him with enlarged eyes as you let out a breath of complete shock.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN RIPPED OFF?” you screamed as you rushed to your feet before grabbing the collar of his classic yellow jumper. From what you could recall, there was no possible way for the seal to be completely ripped off by the hands of a normal person, not even a simple sorcerer could even go through the barrier you had placed on it leading you to turn to the sorcerer, who was looking at the argument that was occurring right in front of his face.
“Was it you? No, from what I can see, you ain’t even a high enough grade to even go through it...Ah shit,” you cursed as you let go of Itadori’s collar before beginning to try to think of all the possibilities that could have happened that led to this accident.
“So, is this it Fushiguro?” Itadori asked the sorcerer, completely ignoring you as you were in a state of shock and confusion on what was going on. “Yeah, that’s the special-grade curse object, Ryomen Sukuna’s finger,” the sorcerer confirmed with Itadori as he then quickly mentioned, “it’s a miracle that it didn’t get swallowed, thanks to L/N curse technique back there.”
‘Fushiguro huh? Not Zenin, that’s a relief’
“Why would anything eat it? Does it taste good?” Itadori asked in curiosity, leading you and Fushguro to look at the boy with a questionable look on both your faces.
“Don’t be stupid,” you and Fushiguro simultaneously stated causing both of you to look at each other in shock before you then explained, “you’d do it to gain stronger curse energy. It’s dangerous, so hand it over to Fushiguro, it’s best to have him keep hold of it since the seal I placed was broken.”
“Sure, sure,” Itadori casually said, as he outstretched his hand to pass the finger to Fushiguro. However, before the sorcerer could take the object away from Itadori’s gasp, a large hand began to reach down below the two people causing you to look up in fear before instinctively pushing the two boys away from the area it was trying to target.
“RUN!” you screamed, before the ceiling crashed down between both of you, leaving you completely alone and vulnerable as the dust invaded your sights. In a panic, you swiftly grabbed the hilt of your katana to release the blade from its casing revealing an all-black weapon your hands, but once the smoked clear you found Fushiguro trapped in the hands of the curse before being forcibly through to the concrete wall causing a few hints of blood escaping from his mouth, to which lead to the two dogs that were protecting Itadori as well as the two second-year to disappear.
‘Shadows? Don’t tell me…’
However, before you could even complete your sudden thought, there was a sudden flash of lights blinding you before the whole side of the school to be destroyed along with Fushiguro, who was thrown across. In a state of terror, you rushed outside before using your speed to jump up the height needed before stabbing back of the curse’s head with your katana before quickly retreating back, leaving it there as the curse screeched in pain while preparing another curse spell to use to finish off the monstrosity.
“Destructive Curse Spell number seventy-three: Soren Soka-” you screamed, but you were interrupted once you suddenly found Itadori aggressively punch the curse’s head leading Fushiguro, who was laying down on the ground with blood pouring down his face to angrily shout, “Itadori! Why can’t you understand to take those two and run?!”.
“You’re in big trouble yourself!” Itadori screamed back, before being swung around as he then suddenly was being dragged along the metal railings of the balcony before his body was then swung into the air.
“Only curses can exorcise other curses! You can’t beat it!” Fushiguro argued back, only for this attempt to fall on death’s ears as itadori continued to fight against the curse as he masterfully dodged its attacks before playing his own as he kicked its ruby eye.
“Besides, I have my own troublesome curse already!” Itadori declared, causing you to look at your classmate in complete annoyance since you didn’t have a single clue on what he was rabbling about. As of right now, all you were wondering was where the cursed finger was since the last time you had seen it was in Itdori’s possession.
Suddenly, before you realised it, the mentioned cursed object had slipped out of Itadori’s grasp causing you to quickly stand up on your feet to jump across the cure to reach it. On the other hand, it seemed like the curse was blocking your way by how it used both its arms to capture Itadori leading to the student to jump as high as he could to catch the finger by the grip of his teeth.
“You idiot!” you screamed, as you tried to concentrate your curse energy to flow to your palms as your katana was still within the curse’s head. “Hand it over to me or you'll be eaten, too!” Fushiguro yelled in a panic as he finally got up on his feet to chase after the wanted object.
Slowly, you raised your right hand before using your index finger to use it as a guide to where to aim your next spell at the finger without damaging your schoolmate in the process. “Destructive Curse Spell number one: Sho,” you quickly chanted leading to a small amount of curse energy in a concentrated manner to shoot from the tip of your index finger, yet before it even had the chance to hit the finger away from Itadori’s teeth, he threw thing finger up in the air using the force of his head leading your curse spell to be a futile attempt.
“There is a way to save everyone! I just need some cursed energy right. Fushiguro, L/N?!” Itadori cried out, leading you to again attempt to shoot the cursed finger away from where you assumed Itadori wanted it to go, while Fushiguro looked upon the situation in complete fear of what was going to happen.
“Don’t..Don’t do it!” Fushiguro shouted in a hostile tone, only for Itadori to swallow the special-grade cursed object causing you and the other sorcerer to look at the scene in complete disbelief.
‘He’s going to die, that’s a deadly poison..but...there’s a one in a million chance’
Suddenly, the arms of the curse disintegrated into small particles of flesh before Itadori landed on his feet, only for the curse to attempt to attack the salmon-hair boy again, leading to being completely destroyed with a single wing of an arm to which caused your katana, which was stuck within the flesh of the curse, to fly into the air before landing with a loud ‘clunk’.
Yet, that wasn’t your main concern.
Your feet were glued to the ground as you looked upon the sight right in front of you. Fushiguro was staring at the same scene with dread flooding his green eyes as Itadori was now covered with the black markings of what you both come to know from basic jujutsu knowledge.
‘Y/N dear, I’m so sorry for putting you through this, if Sukuna ever comes into this era, it is your duty as a sorcerer and the only offspring of the L/N clan to exorcise him, promise me that please?’
‘Why.....why did you have to die mother?’
“Ah, I knew it! The light feels best in the flesh,” ‘Itadori’ declared, as he then processed to rip his yellow hoodie in excitement before brisking his flesh to the moonlight that was shining right above him. “A cursed spirit’s flesh is so boring. Where are the people? The women?!” ‘Itadori’ questioned before jumping onto the railings as he continued his speech, “what a wonderful era to be in, women and children are crawling everywhere like maggots. Marvellous! It’ll be a massacre!”
Without the acknowledgement of who you deemed to be Sukuna and Fushiguro, you slowly raised your right hand with an open palm as you began to whisper another curse spell to make the exorcism a little easier for you, “Binding Curse Spell number sixty-three: Sajo Sabaku''. As you closed your palm, there was a sudden manifestation of a yellow electrified chain being created as it loosely surrounded the King of Curse before tightly securing its place around his body.
“Ah-” Sukuna said in surprise before taking a step back from the balcony to observe the yellow chains that encaptured him. “L/N!” Fushiguro shouted as he looked at you with widened eyes surprised at how you figured out how to retain him so fast.
‘At this rate, he should be somewhat easier to exorcise, Itadori has only one finger within his system, it’s going to be okay right?’
However, before you could even comprehend what to do next as your tactic you suddenly heard a change in tone of voice. “What do you think you’re doing with my body?”  Sukuna asked, only for you to realise that it was Itadori who was speaking at this moment in time, “give it back”.
“How are you able to move?” Sukuna questioned his vessel back, as he was in pure confusion on how the human still maintained some control of his body. “I mean, it’s my body,” itadori answered back, only causing you more confusion on what was going on since Sukuna’s markings were still visible to his body.
“Don’t move! You’re no longer human,” Fushiguro stated in a serious tone, as he crouched down before moving his hand in front of him as he processed to make fists.
“Under Jujutsu regulations, Itadori Yuuji, I will exorcise you as a curse!” Fushiguro announced, causing you to look at him with surprise painted upon your face. However, since you were beginning to lose a certain amount of curse energy, your chains slowly began to disappear leading Itadori’s hands to now more freely while Fushiguro’s worries about you begin to increase.
“Wait, really. I‘m just fine!” Itadori stated in innocence, as he raised his now-free hands as if he was surrendering to the sorcerer while his markings began to fade gradually. “More importantly, you and I are both pretty beat up, let’s go to a hospital,” Itadori declared as he was worried for the male right in front of him. On the other hand, you suddenly realise that there were shadows slowly swirling around Fushiguro leading to your assumption earlier to be true.
‘Fushguro is a Zenin...I..have….to’
“What’s the situation?”
All of a sudden, a new voice came into the area leading you to turn your head to the side to find a rather tall male standing next to Fushiguro. From a quick glance, you could immediately inform yourself that had spiky white hair with a black blindfold covering his eyes, as he carried a paper bag on his arm while wearing a similar outfit to Fushiguro meaning he was another sorcerer.
“Gojo-sensei?! Why are you here?” Fushiguro asked in surprise, as he turned to look at what you assumed to be his teacher leading to the shadows around him to immediately disappear from sight.
“Gojo…” you muttered under your breath as you looked at the two male sorcerers right in front of you in horror as you came to the realisation on the situation you were facing.
‘Mother…..I’ve been found…..’

April Angst and Fluff gift exchange
Angst-Prompt-23 “You need to eat something”
Part 3 of Mercy
for @icerosecrystal
_________________________
“Hey, Jon, You ok?” He vaguely heard someone ask him.
Was he ok?
How is he supposed to react to this news about his dead Fiancée?
The woman who could light up any room.
The woman he had loved with his entire being.
The woman that had left her mark on him, mentaly and physically.
The woman that he had held in his arms as she died.
Was in fact, not dead.
He had spent years mourning her, and still did, he could just function a bit better now.
His body felt like lead, weighing his limbs down to the earth as the numbness coursed through him.
“Jon, you look like you’re going to collapse. You need to eat something and drink some water.” A different voice suggested to him.
Did they want him to just act like this was normal and go eat lunch?
Was this even real?
The information had come from Talia.
It could be false information.
No.
Talia had stopped doing anything that would harm anyone close to Damian, both emotionally and physically..
Then…
This is real?
She’s alive?
Marinette is alive?
Then, why...
“Kent, go eat.” He heard a sharper voice command.
In the back of his mind, Jon recognized the voice, but he couldn’t place it.
Too many thoughts running through his mind.
Too many questions.
It seemed as if all the energy that had been drained from his body had gone straight to fuel his imagination and all the insane questions it was coming up with.
Eventually, he was dragged from the Batcave and up to the kitchen where Alfred had prepared some food for him.
Alfred placed the plate of food in front of the Kryptonian before leaving him alone with Wayne heir.
The room fell silent as Jon poked at his food.
“What do you wish to do, Kent?” The sharp voice, he now recognized as Damian, questioned.
The question seemed to break the barrier between the questions floating around in his head and his vocal cords, allowing the questions to become verbal. “I... I don’t… She’s alive… How… I,”
“Breath, Jon,” Damian instructed, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Right, sorry. It’s just. If Mar… Marin.” Jon took a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself.
“If Nettie is alive, why didn’t she contact me, us, anyone. The… The only reason we know she’s alive is because Talia told us. I… Just… Why?” The Kryptonian questioned, his voice breaking at the end as his eyes began to sting.
“I’m not sure, Jon. That is why I asked you, what do you wish to do.” Damian states.
“I… what is there to do?” Jon questioned dumbly.
“You can pretend that none of this happened, that you were not given the information, to begin with,” Damian said after a few beats of silence.
The thought of Marinette being alive and didn’t go looking for her felt like something was crushing his chest.
“Or, we can organize a meeting with my Mother, and you can find Dupain-Cheng.” Damian finishes, pulling his hand off of Jon’s shoulder to cross his arms.
Damian’s stance was a clear indication of which of the two options he would choose. A clear challenge, asking if he was going to leave this be or if he was going to find her.
Damian let his arms drop down to his sides with a sigh.
“I have already contacted Todd. His eta is fifteen minutes out. Todd will talk to you about the whole, being dead, being alive, and not telling anyone, situation,” Damian claimed, be it a bit awkwardly, before leaving the kitchen.
To be fair, he never had to deal with this kind of situation before.
When Jason had been dead, Damian was in the know about him being alive.
Marinette being alive was as much of a shock to Damian as it was to him.
Jon let out a shuddering breath as he slumped back into his seat.
He just sat there, staring at his food.
What is he supposed to do?
Talia saw Marinette.
Marinette is alive.
Jon let out a disbelieving laugh as his eyes began to water.
He traced the mark that covered the inside of his wrist, a motion that had become soothing to him over the years. Something to ground him when his imagination was getting the best of him.
“Master Jon, I do believe you were instructed to eat, not push the food around your plate.” Alfred stated as he reentered the kitchen.
“Uh… yeah… sorry.” Jon stamers out as he begins to eat his food.
“Master Damian has arranged for a meeting with Miss Talia.” Alfred informs him.
“Really?” Jon asked.
“That is correct Master Jon. Master Jason has just arrived at the manor as well, I believe he will be in the gym working off the tense energy that the lot of you seemed to have acquired after receiving that information.” Alfred said before shooing Jon out of the kitchen having just finished his food.
“Uh…. I think I’m gonna talk with him. He’s…. Uh… kinda my best chance of understanding M…. Marinette’s…. Uh…. thought process about not telling anyone she’s alive.” Jon eventually said, as he walked out of the kitchen.
“Excellent idea Master Jon.” Alfred claimed.
Jon easily navigates the maze that is Wayne manor, arriving at the gym.
“Hey…. Jason.” Jon said awkwardly.
Jason stopped what he was doing on the punching bags and turned to him.
“Hey, kido.”Jason greets, ruffling Jon’s hair.
“Hi Jason. I was wondering… uhm… how are you doing with the news about… Nettie…. Ya know…. Not being dead.” Jon asked, fidgeting with his hands as he spoke.
Jason raised a brow in disbelief.
“All things considered, I’m actually doing ok with it. However, a little demon told me ya were having a hard time with it.” Jason answers.
“I… I was just wondering…. Why?” Jon questioned.
Jason furrowed his brows in confusion.
“Why, what?” Jason asked.
“Why.... Why wouldn’t Nettie tell anyone? Why didn’t she come home? I… just…. Why did Nettie let everyone think she was dead?” Jon questioned, eyes turning slightly glassy as tears threatened to escape the more he thought about it.
“Huh. Is this how Bruce felt?” Jason questioned under his breath, although it seemed to have just been him musing out loud.
“Honestly, I’m not Pixie so I can’t tell you her reasoning. At worst, she was forcibly resurrected, and since Talia doesn’t do that anymore, that’s most likely not what happened. The only other thing I can think of as to how Pix is alive is that spell she cast at the end. Either way, just be glad Pix is alive. If she’s in a bad place then help her. If she’s changed from the last time you saw her, don’t question it, just accept it.” Jason says as he begins unwrapping his hands.
“Thanks, Jason.” Jon said before leaving the gym.
Jon was now sure of  two things.
The first is that he wants to do at the very least, see his love again, even if it’s a final goodbye.
The second, he is going to do is make sure Marinette is in a place where she is loved. Be it wherever she is now, or in his arms, that was for her to decide.

The Time Being (ao3 / ffn) catflorist Summary: Time-slipping is a side effect of wielding the Rinnegan. When Sasuke slips through time, he always goes to Sakura, whether he wants to or not. 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8
pt 7: seasons
SUMMER
Flowers and garlands decorated the village square, packed with bodies wearing their finest clothes. The guests milled about endless rows of chairs, gathered under the shadow of trees, and stood on benches for the best view. Heads were turning to the podium, and chatter was beginning to die—Sakura made it just in time. Her geta tapped out her quick steps as she weaved her way to the front row.
"You're late," Sasuke muttered, removing his haori from the seat next to him. How he succeeded in saving a place, she didn't know. The square appeared to contain every chair in the village, and still the crowd spilled into the streets.
Sakura smoothed the skirt of her pink dress. "It was your fault," she said, settling in her chair.
Halfway through shrugging the haori over his shoulders, Sasuke halted, peering at her face with new scrutiny. Sakura peered back, comparing this Sasuke, in his formal wear, breeze rustling the hair he asked her to trim a few days ago, with the Sasuke she just met—bleeding and weary-eyed, wearing a purple obi and a permanent scowl.
"How is your head?" she asked.
A smile grew on Sasuke's lips.
Sakura wanted to enjoy Sasuke's smile for longer, but she felt eyes boring into the back of her neck. Across the crowd, Tsumiki Kido turned his head, too late to disguise his staring.
Sasuke frowned, following her gaze. "Who is that man?"
"Someone who isn't happy you're back in the village," Sakura said. A chill traveled down her spine, though it did not matter now if Tsumiki or other members of the council saw them together. As a war hero, owner of two legendary doujutsu, and friend to herself, Naruto, and the Rokudaime Hokage, Sasuke was untouchable.
"Are you happy?" Sasuke asked, eyes stern.
"Of course I am," Sakura said.
"Then I have no other concerns," he dismissed. For the second time that day, pink tinged Sakura's cheeks, and she found herself at a loss for words.
A bright, cloudless blue sky shimmered above, promising to give way to a clear and starry night. When the wedding ceremony was over, they offered Hinata and Naruto their congratulations together.
.
.
FALL
In the warm climate of Fire country, the changing of seasons was gentle, but distinct. A chill grew in the air each day until it was difficult to remember anything different.
The moon hung in the sky when Sakura left the hospital one night. She worked late, reinvigorating her proposal to create a pediatric center at the hospital. Besides on-call staff, the only person working later than her was Karin. After sharing one of Orochimaru's radical techniques to preserve chakra network samples, the scientists of the research lab had claimed her of one of their own.
Walking through the quiet and peaceful streets on the way home, Sakura was confident she would not face rejection this time. The village was changing.
Sakura approached her building. A carving of a blooming tree decorated the door. Jugo's artisanry had quickly gained Konoha's attention. His work was everywhere around the village––hand-painted signs, wooden figurines and statues, delicate carvings around door frames. After Suigetsu asked Jugo to create wooden shuriken for his three Academy students, it seemed every young student passing by held one in hand. Reaching for her keys, Sakura pictured wooden carvings on the walls of her pediatric center.
She was not alone.
"Sasuke-kun," she murmured. He was bonier than she remembered him being. His jaw was only beginning to sharpen. "I see. You're leaving now, aren't you?"
She already knew the answer. It was obvious in the way his hands trembled, in the way shadows were collecting in his eyes. He was clutching the left strap of his backpack. Against the warm hues of her street, he was a patch of deep blue and darkness, a shard fallen from the night sky. This was Sasuke on the night he left the village.
A street lamp buzzed and flickered on. When the light caught his face, his cheeks glistened. He took a small step towards her and exhaled a ragged breath.
This was too much for Sakura. She knew what it was like to be left behind. To face his back and beg him to stay, trying to glean from the still line of his shoulders if her words were working. She did not know, all the while, this was what leaving was like for him.
"Wait," she pleaded, but even before the word formed on her tongue, he was gone.
Sakura's feet led her to Sasuke's apartment. He opened the door after the first knock.
"Sakura," he said, opening the door wider.
One step forward was all Sakura needed to take. Sasuke's arms surrounded her without hesitation, as if waiting all this time for the sign to hold her close.
"I just saw you," she murmured, lips brushing his throat. "You were leaving…"
"I'm not leaving anymore," he promised.
"I missed you," she said, though they had eaten together yesterday, and he had walked her home the day before that. There was hardly a day since he returned to the village that they had not seen each other.
Sasuke's chest rose and fell with a soft sigh. "We are tied together." He said it in the same way someone might say the sun is up or north is this way.
Was it always like this? Sakura wondered.
Sasuke reached for her hand. "I want to always be near you," he confessed.
Sakura brushed the hair out of his eyes, traced his cheek, his brow bone. He blinked, and his eyelashes kissed her fingers. The rings of his left eye were like the ripples a stone made as it fell through the surface of water.
"I never stopped loving you," she said. "I love you as much as I did then."
Sasuke's forehead fell against hers, waiting for her kiss. Sakura did not leave him waiting.
.
.
WINTER
Sasuke appeared in Sakura's apartment in the middle of the night, wearing the Akatsuki robes, carrying the weight of a decision. He fell asleep on her couch. It was a long time before he slipped away.
When she was alone, Sakura removed her robe, which she had worn to conceal the Uchiha crest on the back of her borrowed shirt. She returned to her room and settled back next to Sasuke, asleep and unworried, in her bed.
.
.
SPRING
Before Sasuke climbed in through the window of her third-story office, Sakura was basking in the glow of good news.
She read the message on her desk for the third time. Out of the blue, the council greenlighted her pediatric center, offering her a budget larger than she had dreamed. It was enough to build a facility solely dedicated to children's health. No child in the village would ever be left behind again, the way Naruto and Sasuke were.
A soft footfall interrupted Sakura's thoughts of all the work ahead. Sasuke dropped inside the room, the scent of pollen and oncoming rain drifting in behind him.
Sakura leapt up from her desk and locked the door. "What's wrong?"
"I just received this from the council," he said, passing her a scroll before blinking away his Sharingan.
With trembling fingers, Sakura read over Sasuke's new mission assignment.
The scroll described a mission of indefinite length. A haphazard journey across the shinobi world, doing nothing in particular. Escort this noble. Deliver this message. Check on the status of this favor. Refusing the mission, or failing the mission's terms, meant abstaining Konoha citizenship and willfully accepting exile. The text outlined required checkpoints every five days, the first in Suna.
Sakura threw the scroll to the ground, cracking the wooden spindle within. Suna was a two-week journey from Konoha for the fastest of travelers. There was nothing subtle about the council's true intentions.
"Tsumiki Kido delivered the message," Sasuke said, his face even. "He said it would prove my loyalty to Konoha."
"They can't do this," Sakura spat. "You don't have to leave if you don't want to!"
Sasuke gripped her wrist. "He said leaving would be in my best interest, if I cared about the wellbeing of the village."
A buzz filled Sakura's ears. The threat was a familiar one. It reused works she had spoken herself, in a council meeting before the war, as she pulled dangerous strings to keep Sasuke safe.
They will be upset, Shizune had warned.
"We don't have to accept this. We can change things," Sakura said. "Right now. We've already done impossible things..."
A just, peaceful, village was not too much to ask for. Sakura's surroundings faded away, a plan organizing in her mind. She and Sasuke comprised two-thirds of the new generation of Sannin. With Naruto's influence, they could sway their old classmates, and other skilled shinobi, to their cause. They could reach out to Gaara, who had already implemented structural change in the Sand. Tsunade and Kakashi could leverage their political power and Hinata could reach the Hyuuga clan. Sakura herself carried a well-loved reputation among civilians and in the broader world. If anything, they could use brute force to overthrow Konoha's government. They were not powerless, especially not with the help of their teammates, friends, and allies. They could shape their own world and the future they wanted.
Sasuke shook his head. "They wanted my clan dead, so they killed them. Now they want me to go. I can't risk anyone else being hurt." His hand on her wrist tightened, like holding a lifeline. "I can't lose you."
Sakura's mind stopped spinning. "All right," she whispered. "Then I'll come with you."
"You have matters here." Sasuke placed a second scroll back on her desk. While she was plotting, he was reading the news she received this morning.
The timing suddenly made sense––why Sakura's proposal was approved now, of all times, after months of silence. Of course she could not go with him, if building the facility meant protecting and caring for the lives of Konoha's children.
"We haven't had much time," Sakura started, but her throat closed. He was supposed to stay. Why did he have to go again?
"Finish your work," he said. "Then I'll find you."
"Where will I be?" Sakura asked, because a glint was growing in Sasuke's eyes. This happened sometimes, whenever he knew something she didn't. It happened last week when Sakura had brought home an abandoned black kitten, naming her Hime after the dignified way she perched upon Sasuke's shoulder. It happened when she had pulled away from their first kiss.
Sasuke passed something into her hand. A pebble the shape of old dreams, of crashing waves and salt.
He asked, "Have you ever thought about going to the ocean?"
.
.
SUMMER AGAIN
Sasuke was gone, yet he was here again, in the dark of Sakura's bedroom.
"I'll be with you soon," he promised, after kissing her.
Before he left, Sasuke had recounted every detail he could remember about what Sakura should expect at the ocean––every rejected cup of tea, every question. But he hadn't told her about this.
Sakura understood why. When living out of order, some knowledge could not be disclosed. It was too precious, or too painful. Some things were best left for discovery. .

For how long had I wandered around without a destination?
It wasn’t like I had regained my rationality, but when I noticed it, all “voices” had quieted down, and only a faint noise brought by human activity reached my ears. Amidst it, I could hear the distant peals of folk music echoing from far behind me. Immediately, I realized that it was the BGM of the fireworks festival venue. I had apparently ended up coming to a place pretty distant from it.
Without turning back, at last, I lowered my hips onto the bank’s sidewalk. The murmuring of the river stirred up a sense of loneliness within the thin darkness. The dark gray concrete felt cold, and that in turn made me even more disheartened.
“Mary...”
Really, I’d done something stupid. Even though Mary was finally looking forward to it, rather than just the fireworks, everything was ruined.
I had the intention of coming to a clear decision. For Mary’s sake, I had prepared myself to forget about everything completely. Except, when I was before the names of those guys lined-up on the screen, I couldn’t manage to stay calm, no matter what.
I wondered if the arm I grabbed had hurt. I pondered over what kind of feelings Mary had when using the Concealing.
No, I’ve known this since long ago. Whenever I or Kido activated our Abilities, it was always when we were going through anxiety.
Back then... our joined hands had caused Mary to experience anxiety.
A strangled gasp. Tears helplessly overflowed. I had no face to show myself to her.
On that day, after Kagerou Daze swallowed our “enemy” and “comrades”, Mary and I were the only ones left in that place. My memory was fuzzy from the point where I had carried Mary, who wouldn’t open her eyes, until we had arrived to the hideout. I remembered things from the point where Mary had “smiled” at me upon waking up and looking at my face.
It was unthinkable for that girl to be smiling in the aftermath of a gruesome battle where we had lost our companions. I realized at that moment that Mary was suffering of amnesia. I couldn’t place my finger on how much she didn’t remember exactly, but at the very least, it seemed that all of her memories regarding the fight had dissipated.
Having noticed that, I was indecisive about whether or not I should tell her everything. That we had lost irreplaceable friends. That we were living on while sustaining ourselves on said friends’ lives. And that “we had to live on” from this point onward.
There was no way I could tell her.
My indecision lasted for all but an instant. During that instant, her expression of despair that had crossed my mind made me helplessly terrified.
I would throw away everything and protect only her smile. She didn’t have to reminisce to a past that she had forgotten. If she recalled it, she’d collapse. I couldn’t make her go through that by any means.
And so, I had spent my days until today keeping up appearances.
I had watched the animes she liked with her. We had gotten chills in our stomachs at the supernatural feature of a variety show. We also had found out that there was a delicious restaurant nearby and treated ourselves. She had been peeking at my carrots, so I divided them in half and we ate them together.
In order not to grant a single drop of sadness to that innocent girl who didn’t know anything, I had spent my time looking after and thinking about her only.
The city lights were reflected on the river’s surface, twinkling like a starry sky. When I thought that there were people’s daily affairs and lives comprised in each of them, they felt like something terribly realistic and dirty.
Any and everybody put up façades, nourishing darkness inside their hearts. Though they’d say, “I like you” with their mouths, they’d be saying, “I hate you” in their minds. Tough they’d say, “Thank you” with their mouths, they’d be saying, “Drop dead” in their minds.
For me, who had been hearing “voices” since before I became aware of the things around me, this was more common and strange than anything else. Everyone was living contradictorily, and if you turned over one layer of the thin skin of this world, which seemed beautiful at first glance, it would dull out into something similar to hell.
Right. On the day I had first met her, I was also running away from the “voices”, just like today. That day, the trigger for hearing the “voices” of people I was passing by in the city had been a “voice” that resembled Kano’s. This “voice” had said something horribly foul with the exact same tone as Kano’s, so I was instantaneously engulfed in unease at it.
Everybody in my family were good people. Kano, Kido and Nee-chan had treated me so well that it was lamentable. That was exactly why I was so, so scared of the darkness in my family members’ hearts above anything else that I couldn’t help it.
“What if Kano hates me?”
“What if Nee-chan thinks of me as a nuisance?”
The moment I had thought about it, as if a hoop had disconnected, my control of my Ability stopped working. At that instant, I was swallowed by “voices” that were like an avalanche of abusive language. It hadn’t diminished one bit even when I bolted back home, so I ignored the words of concern from my family and blindly flew out of the house.
I believed that was probably the day I had run the biggest distance in my life. I had run, run, run and run, and before I realized it, I became unable to hear anyone’s “voice”.
By the time I noticed that I had gotten far from the city and gone into the mountains, away from human civilization, I couldn’t see anything in my surroundings. I didn’t know the way back, nor could I spot any supplies to rely upon. It was just that the darkness was more comfortable than anything.
Back then was the first time I had heard her “voice”.
It was almost as if everywhere around me had been painted in the colors of light – that was the kind of impact it had. There was no two-facedness to it, and I didn’t sense the slightest bit of stagnation in it whatsoever. Without thinking, I simply had my heart stolen by the “voice” – which was beautiful even – of that girl, who was but in love with the world and had her chest swelling at the happiness that would visit her one day.
Thus, I dashed with my aching feet as if dragging them on, and the person inside the house that I had arrived to was no one other than Mary. The light pink eyes of Mary, whose white hair was swaying, were transparent like gems, reflecting my figure. At that instant, although I was a child, I understood something. That “I was born to protect this girl”.
From that day on, my head had been full of her.
The world, opposing to her fantasies, was brutal. It was a dent of hatred, spinning stale thoughts into a whirlpool. If a girl as innocent as her attempted to go out into it, her pure-white heart would end up dyed black.
I always thought that I’d become strong for her sake. If it was for protecting her, I seriously though about turning into the prince charming from fictional stories that she wouldn’t stop yearning for.
For me, there was no other reason to make me think, “I want to live” in this world, filled to the brim as it was with stale “voices”.
Even when I wound up hearing the “voice” of Clearing, which had been residing inside Dad, and when I learned that my family and I would be murdered, it was Mary that mostly crossed my mind. I couldn’t leave her alone. I didn’t want to let her experience sadness no matter what. The more I thought about that, my heart, which made light of my family and friends, was tainted black in a dark, ugly way.
When I heard Kano’s cries on the night before the decisive battle, too, I had suppressed the emotions that I was about to vomit out and desperately kept myself under control.
Kano was... He was truly a good guy. If anything, I’d wanted to shoulder together the things he had been burdening himself with. He was more kindhearted than anyone, knew my thoughts better than anyone, yet he was also awkward... We siblings really were exactly alike.
I had measured even him on a scale with Mary.
Nevertheless, I couldn’t do anything in the end. I hadn’t fought and hadn’t been able to leave it all behind, just kept running away, thus arriving to this point.
Her smile was everything. It was my only “happiness”. Yes, that was what I had supposedly decided, and yet...
“I was wrong,” my own “voice” echoed in my ears, not letting go of me.
Suddenly, a single sentence was revived inside my head. Having come in contact with helpless seriousness, I let depreciation spill out without thinking, “I’m sorry, Ene-chan. I can’t do anything...”
On the day of the decisive battle, back when Azami attempted to summon Kagerou Daze to swallow Clearing, I had been ready to “throw away my own life”, like Kano and the others. It pained my heart to leave Mary behind and depart by myself, but Ene-chan and the others would definitely come for her aid – I had no choice except to believe in that.
Yet, right after Kagerou Daze appeared, Ene-chan’s tone of determination echoed loud and clear, reaching my ears, “I will be the one to go, so everything is fine. You’re probably the only one who can protect that girl.”
Why hadn’t I realized back then that those words were directed at me? I had only found out that she offered her life in exchange for mine when everything was over and I spotted Kano’s phone cracked on the floor at my feet.
Hit by a memory, I had abruptly taken my phone out. Above a picture of Mary that I had made into wallpaper, only a few numbers displaying the time had appeared. Of course, there had been no display of anyone’s call in the history either.
If I’d had the courage to fight, I wonder if it would’ve made any difference. I wonder if it would’ve changed the plot of this tragedy that one couldn’t even bear to look at.
No, there was no way I could do that. Someone as weak as me, who’d ended up letting go of even Mary’s hand, surely wouldn’t have been able to accomplish anything, no matter what I might’ve done.
Squeezing my phone’s dim screen with a lot of strength, I gritted my teeth.
What was that “I’ll protect Mary” about? What an overambitious thing that I ended up thinking, when I could do nothing but be rescued, be sheltered and run away.
There was no longer anyone left from my family and friends. I could no longer hear anybody’s “voice”.
I wanted to see Mary. I wanted to see my friends. They could hate or disdain me for all I cared. I simply wanted to have just a conversation with everyone together once again...!
“Are you crying?”
A voice.
“You okay? Were you lonely by yourself?”
I certainly heard Mary’s voice. I frantically got up, desperately looking around the area, but couldn’t find Mary’s figure there.
Was it the effect of Concealing...? No, that wasn’t it. Just now, I’d heard the voice from so close that it seemed enough to touch her.
Then just how? What’s going on right now...?
“Se-Seto! I’m here; right here.”
For a second, I doubted my ears. Mary’s voice had definitely come from the phone I was holding. Surprised, I dropped my gaze to the phone’s screen. “Eh?”
In it, just like how Ene-chan used to do before, Mary’s figure was flightily drifting about inside the screen. I stared, my mouth dumbly agape.
“Aah~, you finally noticed! Sorry, did I scare you?”
“Y-You did...”
My head couldn’t catch up with what was happening in front of my eyes, so I couldn’t contain the loud beating of my heart, which seemed like it was about to burst. The phenomenon before me was without a doubt something brought by the Ability that Ene-chan used to have.
Mary currently had four Abilities in addition to the Combining, which she already had. There was no reason for her not to use them, but to think she had become able to use even this power after the Concealing...
“Mary, why’re you doing something like this out of the... Actually, where’s your body? Don’t tell me you left it somewhere.”
“Wah, wah—Calm down, Seto! It’s okay, ‘cause it’s... right here.” Within the screen, Mary’s facial expression clouded over a little.
“Where? I’m coming right away, just tell me the pla... ce...”
The oozing pain that burned my chest interrupted my words.
“I’m coming right away”? Who was saying that and with what mouth? What could someone like me, who had deceived Mary and tried to forget his friends, say to Mary upon “seeing” her after this? Did I seriously think that continuing a daily life painted in fabrications was for Mary’s sake?
I had long realized it already. I couldn’t become a prince charming. I was a half-assed “monster” who could neither stop thinking about Mary nor forget our friends.
It was okay if she thought it was too late for this. If I told her everything, she might cry. Even so, I didn’t want to taint her any more with lies.
“Mary, there’s something I wanna talk about. I want you to hear it,” I said, unable to look at Mary in the face.
She would probably think, “What’s he saying all of a sudden”. I wondered how long it would take me to explain one thing at a time. After I conveyed it all, would she ever accept it?
Mary definitely didn’t know anything. She was someone pure and innocent, who I had to protect. Right. Knowing nothing about Mary, I had been convinced of this to a shocking extent, until she replied to my words.
“I also have something I want to talk about,” Mary said with a voice I didn’t know. “Let’s go, Seto. Everyone’s waiting.”
I climbed the stone stairs one step after another. The flame of the lanterns was out, so my field of vision, reduced by the thicket on both sides, was dyed in the shades of the night.
I could no longer hear Mary’s voice from the phone squeezed in my hand. And I didn’t ask her anything either. Only the quiet sounds of me stepping onto the gravel scattered about the stone stairs repeated itself. I also couldn’t hear the commotion at the far-off fireworks venue anymore. The cries of summer bugs was remiss, and not even the presence of living creatures could be felt. The tranquility surrounding the house that Mary used to live in the past existed here.
Were people being kept out? Or was there another meaning to this? Either way, the only thing I could somehow tell was that this discretion was due to Mary using the Concealing.
Within a silence that made it seem like everything had died out, only Mary’s words kept crossing my mind and disappearing. She said she “had something that she wanted to talk about”. And also that “everyone was waiting”. Did she know something I didn’t? And why did she have to tell me about that?
How awful. Maybe, somewhere in my heart, I had the feeling that she was incapable of analyzing the matter in its entirety, as if I knew everything about her. Honestly, there was a limit to how arrogant I could be, trying to play the “prince charming” who would protect her when I was such a mess.
Surely, everything would end today. Still, in contrast to this definite presentiment, I couldn’t imagine that outcome for the life of me.
And so, I finally reached the top.
The open grounds of the shrine were deserted, as the sounds suggested. I swallowed dryly at the frame of a pure-white back that I spotted on the stone road leading to the main hall.
“How?”
I realized it with just a look. Mary’s figure as she turned around was transformed, just like on that day. Her cheeks bore those scales that had been gone ever since that day, her irises swaying red like fresh blood. As if responding to my words, Mary’s slit, snake-like eyes slightly narrowed.
“Thanks for coming. This place was best for me, no matter what.”
The way she talked was Mary’s, but the usual weak feeling to them was nowhere in sight.
As I was about to ask, “Just what is going on?”, Mary’s words, which seemed to be see-through, came flying at me, “Is the Stealing okay? I’m sorry; I was also surprised, so I couldn’t contain the Concealing...”
I couldn’t hide my shock at each of those words. Was there any moment until now where Mary had said the names of the Abilities?
While I was so confused, as if taking notice of it, Mary cut off with an “I’ll be the one to talk”. “There’s something I have to apologize for. I’ve been thinking all this time that I had to say it, but I couldn’t.” Mary closed her eyes, looking apologetic.
I couldn’t even nod at the unexpected, sudden confession.
“That day... ever since the fight ended, I’d always been lying to you.”
My heart clenched at the word “fight” that came out of Mary. It was a word I had made sure to never utter, from that day until now.
“L... ‘Lying’...? Also, you said ‘fight’, so Mary, your memories...”
“I’d remembered it all along. Nothing was forgotten. I caused a misunderstanding... because I was smiling back then.”
Shades of extremely deep grief resided in Mary’s facial expression. My train of thought mixed up chaotically at those words and that face.
Mary hadn’t forgotten anything? That couldn’t be; it was impossible. That day, at the hideout, after we had come back from the fight, Mary was definitely smiling. Seeing that, I had figured Mary didn’t recall anything.
I mean, why would she have smiled if she remembered it all? There’s no way Mary would laugh immediately after sobbing at the death of our frie...
“Laugh”?
A single surfacing thought began crumbling down the shallow presumption that I had been believing in from the head.
I was wrong. Mary didn’t laugh because she wanted to laugh. The meaning of that smile, it couldn’t be...
“You did that so I wouldn’t worry?”
Mary nodded a little at my words, smiling without any strength. “Yep... I mean, Seto, you were making such a sad face. If I’d cried too, you would’ve gotten even sadder, right?”
A lenient wind silently blew through the shrine grounds. Faced with the truth that pierced into me, my body became flaccid, like a thread that had been cut. As my feet could no longer support me, my knees hit the ground with the momentum just like that. I could sense a dull pain from them, but my head was so clouded that I couldn’t even feel it right.
I was being saved by her all this time.
Mary had been putting up a smile ever since that day so that I would smile. Mary had kept pretending that she had lost her memories so that I wouldn’t be sad. How absurd of me to think that Mary would break down if she found out about the deaths of our friends. Not only had she accepted their deaths, Mary had been protecting me.
Had I been looking properly at her face? Listening properly to her words? Didn’t she go out shopping and said she would “help” with chores because she was desperate to support my “fake daily life”?
As I simply sat dumbfounded without replying, Mary continued, “But I thought this couldn’t go on. You doing your best to forget everyone was all my fault... that’s why I’ve been thinking. Together with him.”
Mary’s finger abruptly pointed at the air. Her index went right over my head, stretched toward behind me. As I turned around with my knees still on the ground, the figure of one of our members, who had probably just climbed up the stone steps, was there. His outfit, consisting of a sky-colored shirt under a vest and shorts, had not changed from the day of that decisive battle.
“Hibiya... kun...”
As I called his name weakly, Hibiya-kun scratched his cheek, looking awkward. “It’s not like we were planning to trick you or anything. She just said that she wanted me to keep quiet.”
“Thanks for coming, Hibiya-kun. I... already told him everything, so it’s okay.”
As the two took turns to speak with each other, I hastily made my head catch up with their conversation.
How had Mary contacted Hibiya-kun? It was obvious – by using the Stirring.
Mary remembered everything about that fight. She had always been thinking about them, who had fought desperately, protected us and tried to accomplish our strategy.
“Don’t ever give up on the future”.
Mary hadn’t forgotten about the goal that we all carried with us back then. This girl was far stronger than I thought. She wasn’t afraid of tainting her pure whiteness.
After that day, Mary definitely had been using the Abilities to keep up with the plan together with Hibiya-kun. Amidst the loneliness of losing our friends and the pressure of being entrusted with the future, she had frantically made sure not to show those feelings to me by any means. And with those same feelings, Hibiya-kun had assisted Mary. Surely, his eyes had kept looking into the unfinished future. That was exactly why he had showed up here like this.
Aah, no good. I can’t muster a single word anymore.
Wasn’t I the only one who had given up everything for Mary’s sake yet didn’t manage to do anything on my own? Even though Mary was fighting wildly against despair...!
As I sat pathetically at the center of the shrine grounds, I let out a sob that I couldn’t repress. Casting aside my shame and dignity, I was seriously helpless simply for not being able to repay them.
Someone please sentence me. Kill my coward self. Please, I’m begging...
“It’s okay; don’t be scared...” A “voice” echoed in the darkness, “Don’t blame yourself, Seto.”
Don’t, Mary. Stop.
“Nobody will hate you, Seto. I know you fought.”
I have no right to be hugged by you. I shouldn’t be forgiven.
“Thank you for always protecting me. Thank you for always cherishing me.”
The “voice” destroyed my world, which hadn’t changed in anything since that day. Yeah, I had devoted my life to that voice. Even so... I...
“Thanks to you, I started liking this world a lot.”
When I opened my eyes, I saw the most beautiful tears in the world. I would certainly never be worthy of those words that expressed such endearment, like light, like flowers and like hope.
I wanted to protect her forever. I wanted us to overcome that endless summer together. If God didn’t have an after-summer in store for us, I wanted to make one with her.
Tumblr media
Ever since that time, I had always been helplessly in love with this girl.
“Hey, Seto. I wonder if we’ll get to see the fireworks clearly if it’s from here.”
My unfulfilled wishes dissipated like the summer. In this place, where sounds and light were nowhere to be found, the only thing that definitely existed was warmth.

A Game of Love and Unexpected Turns
It was an average night in the Sanders house hold Patton having a conversation with deceit and Remy with Logan overseeing the conversation, while Virgil snuggled up to Roman wanting to sleep on him before Roman smiles and announce to the outher's that he would like to play a game of truth or dare. To why do you want to play Truth or Dare all of a suddenly Virgil asked, looking up at Roman questionly. I just thought it would be fun also I don't know that much about Remy and I would like to fix that. Ok kiddo but why truth or dare and not something like 20 questions Patton asked knowing there was a deeper reason as to why truth or dare specifically. I just thought it would be more fun for everyone else to play Truth or Dare Roman said quickly as if he had prepared a response before hand.ok then I have no objection as long as we try to remain a tad bit kosher Logan said knowing that if he didn't we would have someone playing 7 minutes in heaven though they probably change that to be 30 I can speak for myself when I say I'm going to keep it as kosher as possible, teach Roman said confidently. I'm down to play Remy said a small jet loving smile plastered on his face. Deceit was the next to respond saying that he would be down to play but wanted to get sum hot cocoa mixed with coffee first. What an odd combination of drinks deceit thought if you don't mind I would love a cup of Coco as well Logan said as he turned to face the snake like side. No problem Logan, anyone else want anything deceit called from the kitchen. After about 20 minutes everyone had there drinks most had hot Coco except for Virgil,Deceit and Remy, Remy decided that he was going to get coffee while Virgil got a cup of tea with Passionflower, chamomile, lavender and catnip in it which he said helped him relax so no one minded the catnip. So who wants to start Roman asked eagerly. “I will,”Logan said to Roman's shock; he normally never goes first when they play truth or dare. ok that's new Roman said. I wanted to be a tad bit adventures so deceit truth or dare Logan said slyly. Truth I guess deceit said not knowing what to expect from the logical side. Ok then you've chosen wisely your truth is to tell us your sexuality Logan said with a smirk and turns to face Patton how was smiling his bright smile that makes Logan's heart melt. Ok that's not that bad I'm gay deceit states looking at Remy to see his reaction and to decets delight he was smiling. Ok my turn to ask humm how about Patton the cunning side smiled at his thought.I guess I'll pick dare the fatherly side said shaking a bit though not enough for anyone else to note. "Good choice my friend,I dare you to sing a Demi Lovato song to the group." The side of duality said eyes sparkling with happiness Can I sing this as a duet Patton said laced with fear. "You can, there's no problem" deceit said. Ok thanks Logan baby would you sing with me Patton said directing his attention to Logan. I will gladly sing with you me amor what song Logan said to Patton making microphones color coded for the two of them. I was thinking of the song Heart attack. Patton pulled out his phone and started the backing track. The boys Harmonized perfectly as if they had done this before. They hit the chorus when Patton got startled by two pairs of eyes staring at him from the hall and they weren't ones he recognized. Patton stood still trembling at what he sall.”Pops are you alright you trembling”. Roman says concerned , laced in his voice. Patton could bring himself to speak so he just pointed to the hall. Logan looks down the hall to see the eyes and he happens to recognize one of them. “Amy is that you,” Logan says, kinda shocked. “ Yes Logan it's me, it's been awhile since I saw you. You need to come visit more often,” Amy said coming into the room with a girl that looked like a demon. She had purple horns and splotches of purple all over her body. “Um do you two know each other?”Roman said looking at the two girls “Yes actually Logan and I met when he came to the psyche to see  the balance of  Thomas’s soul, im Amy by the way i'm Thomas’s femininity and this lovely lady is Lucia Thomas’s lust and i'm sorry if we scared you.” Amy said with an apologetic look on her face. “ It's no problem, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Patton. Would you like to join are game of truth or dare.” patton said excitedly. “I'm down, how about you Lucia? “ Amy said looking at Lucia ``I'm down to play but can I fix a cup of tea.” “ That's no problem, what kind of tea do you want? Virgil got up to go fix it.`` '' A Chamomile tea please and thank you.” Lucia smiled, she had finally found more people that accepted her and how she looked. “ Lucia her you go i'm virgil by the way” sh said handing her the cup of tea and smiling at her “ thank you virgil”  she smiled “ so it was patton's turn to ask in correct right” roman said “ Yep kido and i'm going to ask Lucia, truth or dare.” “Truth i suppose” Lucia said looking at Pattion “ ok where did you get the purple splotches that liter your body and by the way i think they're cute like decets snake scales.”patton states trying not to be rude or insensitive “ I was born with these splotches i think there meant to represent how lust can scare a person though i do areg with you they make me look bad ass” lucia looks down at her arm and smiles remembering her purpose and all that she is ment to do “wow that's deep.” virgil said “ ok let's move on deceit was it truth or dare” Lucia said look at defeat “ truth i guess” he turned to face Lucia roman got up and walked over to Lucia and whispered “ ask him who he has a crush on” “ ok decit how do you have a crush on'' Lucia ask with an innocent smile plastered on her face” i change my mind i pick dare” decit says he face a bright face “Ok i dare you to tell us how your crush is or you can kiss him if you want.” Lucia says her smile changing from innocent to a conniving smerck” ugg fin i will tell you i like remy there roman truth or dare.” deceit says very read and very defeatedly. Remmy looks at deceit with a look that says meet min in my room when this is over.“ I will pick dare.” roman says “ I dare you to play seven minutes in heaven with Virgil.” deceit says as he condjers up a closet for them to use “ ok roman grabs virgil and enters the closet. As shone as the door closed Roma grabbed Virgil and kissed him passionately causing Virgil to moan in pleasure. Roman bit Virgil's liyp asking for entrance which Virgil gladly gave him access as Roman explored Virgil's mouth they heard the door open slightly and Roman saw Lucia peeping into the closet Roman pulled away and exited with a rosie red blush dusting his face. "Did you too have fun." Lucia says  with a big smile on her face " we did and truth or dare Amy" Roman said a blush forming on his face." Dare" Amy said confidently "ok I dare you to sing something for us" Roman said snuggling up to vigil on the couch " that's nothing" she starts to sing "Call me the end of your world,Call me your genocide,Cause I’m a venomous girl,Just like a spider bite,I’m a relentless machine with no,emergency brake,To stop me,I’ll start by crawling inside,Like a parasite,You’ll feel your heart skip a beat,Just a couple times,You’ll think that you’ve found the one but,it’s your mind coming undone,Ripping slowly,Although I’m beautiful,Like a perfect dream,Inside my soul,There is a murder scene,I’m a creature who’s up to no good I’ll love you like, love you like a vampire would,I’ve been fang-using,Heart-bruising,It feels so good,To love you like, love you like a vampire would,I’ve been pray before, now I’m predator and I’m cold inside,Like a vampire,He was an animal with such a mad disease,They said to stay away, but damn he wanted me,And that was the day that my blood became infected,And I learnt it was kill or be killed again,Although I’m beautiful,Like a perfect dream,Inside my soul,There is a murder scene,I’m a creature who’s up to no good I’ll love you like, love you like a vampire would,I’ve been fang-using,Heart-bruising,It feels so good,To love you like, love you like a vampire would,I’ve been pray before, now I’m predator and I’m cold inside,Like a freezer door was left wide open Frostbite crept into my veins Crippled by a life so tragic can never love again Run away ‘cause I’m contagious You know that I can’t control this Instinct to feed,The hunter in me,I’m a creature who’s up to no good I’ll love you like, love you like a vampire would,,I’ve been ,fang-using,Heart-bruising,It feels so good To love you like, love you like a vampire would,I’ve been pray before, now I’m predator and I’m cold inside Like a vampire" she stops and everyone starts to clap "that's guys Remy truth or dare" Amy says with a small smile on her face "dare" Remy says sleepily "I dare you to kiss deceit" "ok" remy walks over a kisses Deiceit both bays are a blushing mess. "Lucia truth or dare" rem says trying to avoid deceit's gase  "dare"Lucia says"How about you sing something for us." Remy said hoping that it will help defuse the tension in the room "ok" Lucia says and starts to sing "I love you all but sometimes,You boys are way too much,Been gone too long and this place,Could use a female touch,Oh you've been waiting for me,Oh gosh you make me blush,Let the show begin,1 2 3 and 4,I got the taste for stardom and a set of horns,And then a 5 6 7 8,Give me the beat a mic and then get off the stage,And I will take it from here,So don't you have any fear,Your glowing darling angel star has, appeared,Yeah I'm the hand to your glove,Headlining act to your love,The little gift the devil sent from above,The show,Goes all night,Halo,Shines so bright,I'm your starlet,Brought to life,And summoned from the page,I crave,The limelight,Give me,The spotlight,'Cause you know,That they're all here to see,The angel of the stage,The angel of the stage,The angel of the stage." There you go, truth or dare Logan." Dare I guess" Logan says looking at Lucia then at Patton "I dare you to kiss Patton" Lucia says smiling "ok"Logan says and mumbles "for you pat" Logan walks up to Patton and french kisses him, her pulled away and says " how did you like that" "I greatly enjoyed it lo" Patton said to Logan a light blush appearing on his face. "Well as fun as this is me and Lucia need to head back to are Posts and y'all probably should get back to your jobs" Amy said grabbing Lucia and heading out. "See you two later, I will be taking Logan and heading to my room." Patton says "I think I will be doing the same" both Roman and deceit says looking at Virgil and Remy respectively.

It was almost Christmas! I was so excited and I couldn’t wait! Santa was coming and my little brother was so excited. He wouldn’t stop talking about Santa and how he was so excited about what he asked for.
“I even asked Santa for something for you!” Jack said happily. I giggled watching him plop down on the couch next to me.
“That’s very sweet of you!” I said picking him up and kissed his cheek.
“Can I come to your party?” He asked.
“Yes you can. Y/N your father and I have to go out for a little while so your brother will be here, watch him.” My mother said.
“But mom, what about my party?” I asked.
“It’ll only be for an hour or so, then we’ll come pick him up.” Dad answered walking into the room. I sighed.
“Okay, but you have to wear something festive!” I said looking at my brother.
“Yay!” He cheered and clapped his hands.
“Thank you dear.” My mother said with a smile.
*A few hours later*
Jack spent the next few hours decorating for the party. Once we finished we ran up to our rooms and got dressed. I put on a white long sleeved shirt with silver sparkles all over, a red skirt, white heels, a red bow, and some cute silver earrings. For makeup I put on a red lip with sparkles, and I did a silver sparkle eye with a little bit of red and brown, and I did a wing.

Once I was dress I went to my brother’s room to see if he was ready. I knocked on his door and he answered it. I looked down at him and saw he had a black and white striped long sleeved shirt, overalls with a cute little snowman on them, a pair of sneakers and a Santa hat on.
Tumblr media
I picked him up and kissed his cheek. He looked adorable! Before I could tell him we heard the doorbell ring. Jack squirmed in my grip so I put him down. He rushed downstairs and opened the door to reveal my friends.
“Hi guys!” He said happily and let them in. I smiled watching him.
“Hey Jack, you’ve gotten so big!” Betty said with a sweet smile.
“He’ll be a lady killer pretty soon.” Archie said. Then my brother spotted Veronica. He smiled and walked over to her. He had a crush on her and it was so adorable.
“Hi Veronica.” He said and smiled.
“Hi Jacky!” She said kneeling down to his level.
“You look very dashing in your Christmas outfit.” She complimented and he blushed.
“You look very pretty too.” He said and Veronica smiled.
“Are you joining the party?” She asked and his face lit up.
“Yeah! Mommy and Daddy said I get to stay here for a little while.” He answered and everyone giggled at how cute he was.
“Well, we’ll have to dance before you leave.” She said and he blushed even more.
“Umm… Would you like a cookie?” He asked and she smiled. He took that as a yes and ran into the kitchen.
“So your brother is gonna be here for a while?” Reggie asked.
“Yeah, my parents are picking him up in about an hour.” I said and Reggie groaned.
“But what about the special drinks I bought!” He groaned.
“We can have them when he leave.” I answered. Reggie sighed but nodded.
The party was going well. Everyone was having fun and Jack couldn’t stop making everyone smile. Right now he was dancing with Veronica and I was standing off to the side watching them. The song ended and Jack went to get Veronica another cookie. Archie came up behind me and wrapped me in his arms.
“You know you’re standing under a mistletoe right?” He asked and I looked up. I turned around in his arms and wrapped my arms around his neck.
“Guess you’ll just have to kiss me, but we should be careful. After all Santa is watching.” I said with a giggle. Archie paused and looked at me for a second, I looked at him confused.
“You know Santa isn’t real right?” He asked and I stared at him like he was crazy for a second before I heard a crash. I got out of Archie’s arms and turned around. I saw Jack standing there with tears in his eyes and a broken plate with a cookie on the floor.
“What do you mean Santa's not real?” He asked and a tear fell down his face. Everyone’s eyes widened and I rushed over to him.
“Jack, Arch was only kidding!” I said trying to calm him. He shook his head and started crying.
“Santa isn’t real?” He asked crying hard. I bit my lip and picked him up.
“I’ll be right back okay guys?” I said to my friends and they nodded sadly. I went upstairs to Jack’s room and sat him down.
“How can Santa not be real?” He asked. I wiped his tears and kissed his head.
“Oh kido, Santa is real. Archie was just joking okay?” I tried again.
“But he said-”
“I know what he said but he was just being silly!” I said. Suddenly my phone went off,  it was my parents telling me they were here and to bring Jack out. I sighed and looked at him.
“Mom and dad are here, but when you come home I’ll prove to you that Santa is real okay?” I said with a smile.
“How?” He asked.
“Well, mom and dad gave me Santa’s number so that way if I have to watch you I can call him if you’re bad.” I said and he looked at me shocked.
“You have Santa’s number!?” He asked and I nodded.
“I’ll see if he can take a little break and come visit you. But you can’t tell anyone that you saw Santa before Christmas.” I said and he nodded with a huge smile.
“Okay, now you gotta go.” I lifted him up and walked him downstairs. He left and I turned back to my friends.
“Is he okay?” Kevin asked and I nodded with a sigh.
“We can still party, but I need your guys help.” I said and everyone nodded.
“Great, so I need someone to dress as Santa for when Jack comes home.” I said.
“I’ll do it, I’m the one that messed up.” Archie said and I smiled at him. I walked over and pecked his lips.
“Thank you babe. Now we need to get a Santa costume, a wig, and a beard!” I said.
“My dad all those things, he dresses up for the Serpent’s kids.” Jughead said and I smiled.
“Perfect!” I said.
“I’ll go get it, I’ll be back in a few.” Jughead said and walked out.
“So until your brother gets home can we have those special drinks?” Reggie asked and I shook my head with a laugh.
“Yes, but we can’t get drunk!” I said.
“Fineee!” Reggie said and we all started partying again.
*Four hours later*
I got a text from my parents that said they would be home in a few minutes. I handed Archie the costume and shoved him upstairs. I told him not to come down until I called him. Jack ran in and up to me.
“Where’s Santa?” He asked full of excitement.
“He’s upstairs, he needed to use the bathroom after such a long trip.” I said and he squealed.
“Santa? Are you done?” I called up. My friends sat on the couch and watched as Archie walked downstairs dressed as Santa.
“Santa!” Jack called happily.
“Hello Jack, your sister told me that you needed to see me because someone was being silly and said I wasn’t real.” He said in an old man voice and kneeled down.
“Yeah, my sister’s boyfriend. He’s right-” Jack looked around but didn’t see Archie.
“Hey where is he?” Jack asked.
“Oh, Archie needed to go help his dad, he said he’ll be back in a little while.” I said and Jack nodded. I quietly sighed happy that he bought that.
“Did you get my letter Santa?” He asked and Archie nodded.
“I did.” He said.
“Then what did I ask for my sister?” Jack challenged. My eyes widened and I bit my lip.
“If I say it out loud she’ll hear.” He said.
“Then whisper it to me!” Jack said and moved his ear next to Archie’s mouth. I looked at them nervously. Archie whispered something into his ear and Jack pulled away with a blank expression.
“You really are Santa…” He said and shock and my eyes widened.
“Of course I am.” Archie said and then looked at his watch.
“I have to go Jack, if I’m not back soon the reindeer won’t get fed.” He said getting up.
“Wait! Can we take a picture? So I can prove Archie wrong?” He asked and Archie smiled.
“Sure.” He said and Jack ran up to me.
“Will you take my picture with Santa?” He asked and I nodded with a smile. I took out my phone and took a few pictures with them. Then Archie left. He was going to go behind my house and take the costume off then put it in Jug’s bike. Sure enough, a couple minutes later Archie walked back in.
“Archie!” Jack called and ran up to him. Archie picked him up and and smiled.
“Hey buddy.” He said.
“You missed Santa!” Jack said.
“Did I? Oh man! Am I on the naughty list for joking that he wasn’t real?” He asked. Jack shook his head.
“No but Y/N, show him the pictures!” I laughed and walked over showing Archie the pictures.
“Wow!” Archie said and then we sat down next to our friends.
So how’d you know it was actually Santa?” Veronica asked him.
“He knew what I asked him to get Y/N.” Jack answered happily and I looked at Archie. Archie just smiled and pecked my lips.

Dancing’s Not A Crime (Unless You Do It Without Me) pt. 9
Tumblr media
Pairings: Bakugou x fem!reader, Todoroki x fem!reader
You flirt and tease with a certain hotheaded classmate of yours without realizing how far it has escalated and someone gets a little jealous.
Warnings: ANGST ANGST ANGST, fluff
A/n: this is the one where Aizawa is a good dad. Sorry I haven’t updated in awhile. I got stuck in a moody spiral and writing the angst was tough. Some could say I could’ve attempted to write the next chapter before I finally finished this one. But I am not a wise Meeps. Thanks for being patient. I am a ghoul.
Part 8.
You held two dolls in your hand. The one who looked more similar to you was the hero of the story in your head. She was the prettiest, the best at everything, and she was going to fight all your other dolls who thought they could shut her down and steal her light.
You crashed the two dolls together, causing the other doll, the villain of your story, to fly through the air and crash into your closet, the jail where you kept your other villain dolls. You smiled. Another triumphant battle. You wanted to share your new story. “Mater*,” you called. No answer. It didn’t always work. You were just getting used to saying the other words for the names of things you had known already. You tried again. Nothing. You huffed. You crept down the hall towards the kitchen where you heard the clanking of a pan and soft humming. She was cooking.
She wore a long lily white dress that twirled around her feet as she spun around to season the food she had on the island. She looked at you and gave you a sweet smile. “I thought I heard a buzzing in my ear.”
“I made a new story,” you said tugging on the fabric of her dress.
“Did you? Oh, I would love to hear it but I’m prepping for dinner right now. Why don’t you set the table, for me?” You let out a whine. “Do you want me to sing for you, pumpkin?” Your little heart was conflicted. Your mother’s voice was the best voice. Her singing was enchanting. But you didn’t like the feeling you got when she did. You didn’t like not being able to control your actions.
Before you could respond, your mother’s ruby red lips parted and a soft melody followed out. You were compelled to take the plates and silverware into your hands and bring them to your dining room table, though you did it slowly and with a scowl, alerting your mother of your reluctance.
The lock to the front door turned and a tall cloaked man towered in, sighing to himself. White teeth shown through a shadowed face when he saw you. You mother stopped her singing and you ran to her hiding behind her dress before the man came in to the kitchen.
“And here I was thinking you’d never return,” your mother joked before pulling the man into a kiss.
“Death himself couldn’t keep me away from you, my love.” The man laughed into your mother’s hair. He leaned down to you and spoke softly. “How have you been, monkey?”
Your grip on the fabric tightened as you hid your head into your mother’s gown. You heard your mother sigh before singing softly to you and you let go of her dress and bowed your head before the man. “She’s been getting stronger, I almost couldn’t stop myself from going to her when she called me,” said your mother, almost warningly.
“That’s great news!” The man beamed, taking his good off. There he is, you thought as you smiled up at the man you now recognized. He was your friend, your adventure buddy, your father.
“Daddy!” You cried running to him. He swept you off your feet and into his arms.
“There’s my little girl!” He smiled, touching his finger to your nose. “Have you been working on your quirk?”
“Nope!” You laughed at him as he rustled your head. “I’ve been fighting bad guys with my dolls!”
“I’m so proud of my brave little string bean! What do you do with those rotten bad guys?”
You furrowed your brow in a mock angry expression. “I damn them to hell!” You yelled with a fist in the air. You mother sighed, continuing her cooking.
“Monkey, those are some serious words right there. Are you sure you don’t want to reconsider them? You have to be careful with that magic mouth of yours.”
“I throw them in jail!” Both of your triumphant fists were thrown in the air and your father took the opportunity to tickle you. You giggled uncontrollably and he put you down back to the floor.
Your mother hummed as she chopped raw vegetables. “You should know,” she began cutting deeply into some carrots, “we have a dog now.”
“A dog...” your father was combing your mother’s long h/c locks. “I don’t remember making that decision as a family.”
“It wasn’t my decision.” As if on cue, a fuzzy little thing shot through your father’s legs and bit into your mother’s dress.
“Oh my god is that-“
“Speckle!” You screamed gleefully at your stuffed animal that was hanging on to your mother with all his might. “Come here!” The dog pranced into your arms and gave your cheek a fluffy kiss.
“He eats gum drops and jelly beans. And he poops out... gum drops and jellybeans. And continues to eat those,” your mother was not amused by the whimsical things she was telling your father.
He crouched down to your level giving your creation a pat on the hand. Speckle returned the affection my nipping your father’s hands. “We’ve made something truly spectacular, haven’t we, Kira?”
~
You shot up in bed, cold and sweaty. You grumbled when you saw the time. 3:18 AM. You feet met the cold of the hardwood floor in your bedroom. How could you go back to sleep after that?
You made your way down the hall towards the kitchen, wanting to fetch a glass of water, but you paused when you saw Aizawa with his hair pulled back, sitting in the couch grading, very awake, grading papers. “Couldn’t sleep?” He asked his eyes never tearing away from the essay he had.
You sat down next to him and hugged a couch pillow to your chest. “I could,” you whispered peering over his shoulder, trying to see the red marks he left on the page.
“I don’t think so,” he pushed another couch pillow into your face. You weren’t allowed to see him be a teacher at home.
You pulled the pillow out of your face. “I had a... dream,” you sighed, bringing a warm hand to your face, “about... them.”
Aizawa put his pen down. Still he didn’t look at you. “Bad or good?”
You still heard the sound of her singing. “Does it matter?” Your voice cracked. You couldn’t help it. Any dream with them in it was a bad one.
“Hey,” he said, placing the graded papers onto the side table. “Hey,” he said again putting a hand on your shaking arms. You shook your head, tears were now streaming from your face.
“It’s like I could smell- I knew they were bad but they still- he still-“ you were blubbering.
Aizawa was now holding you, cradling you as you sobbed into his neck. He pet your hair shushing you.
“He loved me, Aizawa. Why wasn’t that enough? Why wasn’t I enough?”
Aizawa kissed at your hair. “You are enough. You will always be enough. They were sick, Y/n. You know that. Everyone has their... motives for being who they are bu they were militant in their ways. Nothing could have stopped them. That’s not on you.” He has you hugged tightly to him.
You wiped your tears and snot on him. An occurrence he was used to. You looked up into his kind, sleepy eyes. “What if I end up exactly like them?”
“Then I’ll have to take you in,” he said as a crazy smile spread across his cheeks. You hit him. He chuckled. “you’re not going to be like them if you don’t wish to be like them. Hell, I’m nothing like your grandparents.” You smiled at his mention of ‘grandparents.’ You didn’t often question whether Aizawa was really your family but you were in a fragile state. “And you wouldn’t be enrolled in a hero academy if you didn’t want to be hero.”
That was true. Aizawa made sure that you were sure about wanting to pursue this path. Still you were nervous. “What if I can’t help it? What if I use my quirk, the dark side of it, too much one day and I snap?”
“You have to practice self control. But you can’t keep that part of you under wraps. You have to learn to control it before it controls you. But I’m never going to let anything bad like that happen to you, understand?” You gulped. “Let me bring you a glass of water and- don’t look at those papers.”
“Can I at least check to see if you’re being nice to me?” You called as he shuffled around in the kitchen.
“No.”
You shifted your weight. You figured this was a good a time as ever to let them know about your sorry news.
When he placed a cold glass of ice water in your hand you took a deep breath and told him “I have a date. This Friday. With Bakugou.”
His silence killed you. He pulled out his phone and sent a text. To who? You didn’t know. His sipped his own water. You knew he heard you. He liked to make you sweat when it came to things like this. Finally he asked, “is he coming here?”
Gah. “Well, we’re going to his place,” Aizawa frowned, “but I told him that he needs to pick me up and- ... meet my dad.”
He sipped his water some more. “Good,” he said and scrolled through a shopping website. “And you and Todoroki...?”
Gah! You groaned. “Can we not open this can of worms?”
“That’s fine by me. Mic owes me about a thousand yen.” You groaned again. Leaning over his shoulder you saw that we was shopping for a fly swatter.

She looked gorgeous on that big dress, it was embroidered with the Light emblems and it left place for the sword that Sora carried everywhere.
“Your audiences” She insisted.
“Yes, yes, I know. They can wait for me, I’m the King” Taichi said as he stand up and walked at the dresser.
“I am on my way then. I had a reunion with the sisters on the morning, but I’m going to take the audiences of the afternoon”
When she opened the door Yamato wasn’t standing outside. Nobody cared their door anymore. No one follow the Queen anymore. Taichi waited until Sora’s steps were far away to change his clothes. When he opened the door Hikary was waiting outside.
“Brother” the girl said smiling. “Let me accompany you at the ceremony”
Taichi take a deep breathe. The words “I want to be alone” die on his troat.  Hikary take his arm and they walked together at the throne room.
The royal guard was waiting on the throne room. Most of them wearing the Light armor, Yamato Ishida, royal guard and leader of the soldiers, wasn’t.
The King crossed his look with the handsome soldier. Restrained himself to touch him had never costed him this much.
“Brother” Hikary called him “Your majesty” she corrected promptly “We are ready to star”
Taichi sat on the throne. HIkary welcome at the guests of the ceremony and recited a five minute prayed.
“I can’t believed they made us attended this” Kouji whispered at Takuya on the back line of the army.
“And you don’t go at the daily mass, they are longer everyday” the fellow soldier replayed.
“What is she wearing?”
“It is a ceremonial sister thing”
“It would be easier pay attention to her if she hasn’t three layer of clothes on”
“The sisters of Light are illuminated, it is supposed that if they don’t cover to head to toe when they pray they would break the souls of the weakness with her sacred grace”
“What?”
A sshh called the attention of the soldiers.
Hikary finally retired of the spotlight and Taichi stand up of the throne. Davis Motomiya knelt down in front of him.
“Outrageous” Kouji said on a quiet voice “the man betrayed the King that he swore to protect and received a title”
“Is he that good?” Takuya asked.
“What?”
“Is he as good to be the new protege of the King?” the knight asked with disdain.
“The protégé of the King?”
Izzy Izumi standed behind the young men and they shut up immediately.
Kouji looked at Takuya. His brown eyes were glued at Motomiya, the guy had returned from the war with the favor of King, he was now his new apprentice, not Takuya. Kouji had seen Motomiya in action on the battlefield, if he had the favor of the King he can easily ascend on the royal guard. Kouji could had been worried about his own position on the royal guard, but the subtle hate on the eyes of Yamato Ishida when he accepted Motomiya on the guard were even bigger than the envy on the eyes of Takuya.
When the little ceremony ended the supreme alchemist come close at the King and whispered something at his ear. Sorrow plasted on the face of the monarch. His eyes went to Yamato. The royal guard was at some steps of The King.
“That concludes the ceremony, thank to all of you for coming”Hikary said with the sweetest voice “That the true god of Light enlighten your days” She said as she looked at Yamato.
Kouji knew that look. That was the look that the enlightened had for him and his brother. That people always talk about saving the souls, but their solutions always were torches and murders.
The King left the throne room. His sister followed him.
Yamato left the throne room, but he cannot follow the king any more. The royal guard assemble the guard, it was time for training.
Kouji had to admit that this was the funniest training that they had ever had. Yamato wasn’t subtle about his hate for Davis Motomiya, his exercises were excessive, no soldiers talk to him, he felt and get hurt. Even Takuya mock him. Takuya whose first move always was befriend the new recruits.
Prince Takeru knel to help him when Motomiya felt for the third time.
“It’s enough!” The Prince claimed.
Yamato actually listened to him and called out the soldiers.
“Your training are really hard, I’m not surprise of the good reputation of your army” Motomiya said at the prince with some tenderness.
“The Captain need time” Takeru said.
“What?”
“If you act right, this could get better” The prince handed some water at Davis. Kindness was so strange to him right now. The prince was gone for when Davis tried to said thank you.
“this could get better” Davis repeated to himself. Hope was never his strength. He was optimistic on the battles, but it was Ken and Iory work to do the planning. Ken and Iory. He shouldn’t miss the brothers that he betrayed. He missed Ken’s warm and Iory’s clarity. What would be their brothers advice on this situation? Ken would kill at anyone who mock him, he would made some cruel revenge plan. Iory probably would take it as a challenge, maybe he would try to win at the superiors, his little brother was good for that. Ryo would resolve this problem for him. But his master was gone and Davis was alone. He cannot plan a evil revenge or charming his way out. He did the thing that he do when he can’t do anything else.
The afternoon came at the palace. It was quite and warm and Davis was boring, the trained had let him wounded and sad. He walked by the gardens through the hallways, until the big doors of the wall around the castle. Takuya and Kouji were guarding the doors.
“Where are you going?” Takuya asked
“I'm going to the port, I would come back by the sunset” Davis answered
“I dont think so”
“ i dont had orders to complete or anything to do here”
“You can't leave without permission” Kouji interested
“Do we need permission to leave the palace-” Davis asked. The two soldiers look at each other with smuggled smiles.
“I don't think you understand what is happening”
“ You are just being mean” Davis accused them.
“mean?” takuya laughed “it is a way to said it”
A whinny interrupted the conversation. When Davis turned it was Yamato Ishida infront of him riding a black horse.
“What is happening here?” The royal guard asked
“Motomiya wants to leave the Castle” Kouji said
“ Trying to escape already?” Yamato looked down at Davis since the horse.
“I'm not quicking I just want to visit the port” Davis claimed. He isn't scaping anything, he was a free man.
“You can't leave the castle, Motomiya”
“What? Why?”
“Orders of the King”
“Liar”
Yamato get down of the horse.
“How do you call me?”
“You heard it”
Davis saw the fit of his superior officer and got ready to take the hit, but the hand of princes Takeru hold the elbow of the royal guard.
“Yamato!” the princes called “what are you doing?”
The older man shake it off his anger.
“I was going to teach a lesson to this vermin”
“I had a name” Davis said challenging Yamato, the blond turned to him with hate on his eyes. “I need to go at the port to pray, when did you go?”
“Excuse me?”
“You are too a son of the ocean as me”
“I’m nothing like you” Yamato claimed as get closer to the soldier.
“Every soldier of the King is a soldier of the Light” Takuya said firmly. Kouji grown smaller and Takeru and Yamato evaded his look.
“I had seen the big walrus on your neck” Davis said at Yamato “You are a son of the ocean”
“SIlence!” Yamato scream and moved his hand with force “You don’t have the right to call the old names of the ocean, how you dare, you… dirty traitor”
The words of Yamato hang on the air, Davis listened it but need a few seconds to understand the meaning of the words.
“I betrayed your enemies, I joined your army, I won your war, your men and your King are only alive because…”
“You betrayed YOUR KING! YOU KILL HIM!”
Yamato’s hand was over his sword and the hand of Takeru was holding his
“No”  Davis said “You are the one who killed Joe KIdo”
Takeru looked at Davis with surprise and slowly released Yamato. Finally he turned over himself to don’t watch the ugly show.
The fist of Yamato finally hit Davis face. The young soldier tried to evade the second one, but Kouji hold him by the back and kept him in place. Yamato broke his lips and hit his stomach. Davis couldn’t breathe,he was only bleeding. Finally he hit the ground. Someone, probably Takeru, let him at the infirmary.
Davis wake up on a cold room, alone. The wall of the palace were probably the last wall that he had ever seen. He had been wrong, he wasn’t the protege of the KIng or a soldier of the royal guard, he was a prisoner and he was so far away of the ocean than no god would heard him.
The old god had abandoned him. His master had leave him behind. His new King had lied to him. There was no more place to go. Davis entered at The Light church. There were angels and figures of old criatures singing and howling, there tails were long and there arms short. Davis walked for the corridors and stopped in the garden.
The young boy stand next to the fountain and with a hand in the water and the eyes on the sky, he pray.
A suddenly noise alerted him. He turned the head and saw her standing next to fountain, beautiful as a new day, an angel.
“What hails you, brother?” The angel asked, but Davis has no words to share with so gracefull presence. He broke over her and cried all his laments.
"Holy mother in heaven, shelter of the poor and support of the weaks" Hikary pray "show the way at this lost sheep".
Since they balcony of the church Izumi watch the encounter with an impy smile.

15, 16 and 21 (which real life actors/celebrities would you have play these characters if there was a live action Bleach movie in soul society?) For Momo and Toushiro :)
Character Ask meme
Tumblr media
So again one of my answers ended up being long, so they're below the cut:
15- Favourite line of theirs?
Momo: "I've come to this battlefield as the Fifth Division Lieutenant. I bear the adjutant's plate upon my arm. But what that signifies is that I am here as 'the officer responsible for the Fifth Division'. Not as 'Captain Aizen's subordinate'. That man is now the enemy of Soul Society."
Toshiro: "As long as I can strike you down, I would gladly abandon my status as captain right here and now!"
16- What do you think would improve this character? Like, character-arc wise?
I don't generally like to say how I would improve a story or character arc as I'm not sure what the creator went through while creating their work, and I will also preface this by saying this my personal opinion, so if you don't agree with anything I'll write that's totally fine.
In short for both of them: MORE SCREENTIME! Of course neither of them are main characters, so unless they're plot relevant we're not going to see them as much.
This definitely proved to be the case for Momo, who was a major character during the Soul Society arc after Aizen's 'death', but then lost relevancy to BLEACH's plot after he left for Hueco Mundo. She did show some agency by coming to the battle in Fake Karakura Town and even got to show off her proficency with kido, but the cynical part of me can't help but feel Kubo just ended up using her to get a reaction out of Toshiro. Because of limited screen time, we didn't see the full growth of her character as the series went on. For one thing, I would have loved to have seen her in battle more than once. She's a kido pro, but we only get to see her show her skills 3 times: against Tier's fraccion, against Tobiume and Haineko, and it's mentioned by Shinji that she's a pretty good healer. I wish we got to see more of that from her, see which kido spells she combines and how she uses them in battle!
I LOVE her implied arc, about recovery from trauma and how long it can take an individual to get back on their feet. Thing is though, the key word is implied. While I appreciate Kubo showing us that her recovery is slow, I really feel like her character arc would have been improved if we actually got to see her recovery after Aizen's defeat in the manga. Yes, it's fantastic to have that chapter with her and Shinji meeting and getting to know each other in the Death Save the Strawberry novel, I love that it was included and I love their dynamic. However, how did Momo reconcile with Izuru and Toshiro? How did she feel on her first day back as a lieutnenant? What was her reaction to Aizen being freed during the battle against the Quincy? It's such a shame we don't see any of this; on one hand it leaves us to come to our own conclusions/headcanons, but on the other nothing is concrete, we don't really know where Momo stands with some of her friends. We definitely see her worried and concerned for Toshiro in chapter 659, but am I the only one who thought we were going to get a flashback to show how she reconciled with him? I mean, I assume she did, and I assume their bond is still going strong, but I don't know if this is the case for Izuru or Renji, for example.
I'd probably need to think about it for a while more, but right now I think there isn't too much I'd change about the way Toshiro's arc played out. I hate seeing him suffer so much, but for me it makes the wins he gets all the more better, and it's again another demonstration of moving forward through and eventually moving past trauma. His minor arcs were ones about oneliness (seeking one's place in a world where you're different in one way or another from everyone else) and recovery from trauma, but his main arc (from how I read BLEACH) was about maturity. Him being a prodigy and the maturity he displays when performing his job and his usual stoic, cold demeanor likely gives many the impression he's mature beyond his years, but they forget he's still a youngster. His arc is made obvious by contrasting this seeming maturity with the occasional jokes about him still being mistaken for/thought of as being a child, him having an issue with his height, and also lacking emotional maturity as seen when he is quick to lash out blindly in dangerous situations when provoked. Aizen knew this about him and used it to his advantage, putting Momo in danger and harming her to get a reaction out Toshiro that would result in him being severely wounded every time they faced off. Momo basically sums it up in her monologue in the Zanpakuto Rebellion arc:
"I can't wait until I'm older. There's nothing great about being young. Being young means that you're still naive. That's why it feels like you're soaring in the sky or sinking beneath the ocean when someone you admire betrays you. Those emotions control your entire life and can make you lose sight of who you are. By growing older, your heart grows more experienced. You grow one step further away from being controlled by your feelings and are able to keep from soaring through the sky or sinking to the depths of the ocean. That's what it means to grow older."
However, Aizen initially underestimated Momo and Toshiro's bond, believing Momo would either kill to Toshiro or he would kill her. She wept and questioned Aizen's last wish while she was trying to attach Toshiro, which is somethign I'm sure Aizen didn't foresee happening. It shows Aizen thinks little of bonds, and then uses their bond as a weakness for Toshiro. But he's wrong...to an extent. When Toshiro's bond with Momo get threatened, it does indeed provoke him to act out in anger, a sign of his immaturity (even Kyouraku sees this when he advises Toshiro to remain calm while confronting Aizen). We see after Aizen's defeat that Toshiro is training to grow strong enough to protect Momo. While it's his bond that motivates him, it's will and commitment to become stronger for those he cares about is what gave him the new strength he wants to gain, not just the bond itself.
Through this, he achieves maturity in a very literal sense. Ignoring the potential fanservice-y elements of it, Kubo shows the completion of Toshiro's arc by making Toshiro literally mature with Hyourinmaru's perfected mature form. However, I do think we see his mental maturity as well before the end: in the few chapters before the matured form's reveal, where we see Toshiro making jokes about his height; it's another sign he's matured, able to make light of his height instead of being annoyed by it. A sign of his emotional maturity could be how easily he smiles in the last chapter; prior to this, it was rare for him to smile, and when he did it was often in private or with few people around. Him smiling in front of people he isn't close to is for me a sign of him having emotionally matured.
Was all of this because he achieved the mature form? I almost feel Kubo is saying 'yes' based on how Toshiro was before and after obtaining it.
I REALLY got off topic here! If I had to change anything about Toshiro's development/arcs: show his reconciliation with Momo and maybe a scene where he talks with Rangiku about how she's coping with Gin's death, I think it would have been a good extension of his minor arcs I mentioned above.
21- Wild card! Talk about anything to do with this character! Anything at all! (which real life actors/celebrities would you have play these characters if there was a live action Bleach movie in soul society?)
I don't think I can answer this one as I don't really know any Japanese actors or celebrities, sorry ^^; Will say though I really like both their seiyuu and voice actors in the anime!
Thanks for sending these in!

Jou Week 2022 - Day 7: Free Day
Days: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Title: First Anniversary Celebration Characters: Jou Kido, Gomamon, Himawari Mizushima (OC), Sora Takenouchi and Yamato Ishida. Summary: Jou turns to Yamato and Sora for ideas for presents to give on his first relationship anniversary with Himawari. Jou felt his heart beating fast and his palms sweating when he walked into the flower shop at the end of that day. He had turned to both Sora and Yamato for help with things to do for his first anniversary with Himawari and they gladly agreed to help. “Sorry I’m a little late.” He apologized as soon as he spotted them. “Things were a little crazy today at work.” “It’s okay. We just got here too.” “Oh great.” Jou sat down next to them. “Thank you for agreeing to meet and help me.” “You’re welcome.” Sora said with a warm smile. “We’re very flattered you came to us for help.” “So, you and Himawari are about to have your first anniversary together, huh?” “That’s right.” He blushed a little. “It’s a big deal.” “It is. So…” The med student bit his lower lip, still unsure about how his couple of friends would take this situation. “What did you do for your first anniversary? I really hope you don’t mind me asking this because it’s something private, but I honestly have no idea what to do.” “That’s fine.” Sora assured him. “We don’t mind sharing it with at all.” “I second that.” Yamato leaned back on his seat. “So, on our first anniversary we had a movie session at my apartment. If I remember correctly, my father was working that night, so we had the whole apartment for us.” “That’s right, we did.” “Did you… you know?” Jou was blushing even more now. “Oh, come on, Jou. There’s no need to blush, we’re all adults here.” “Yamato, you shouldn’t talk to him like this. Maybe it’s something he’s not comfortable talking about.” “You’re right. I’m sorry.” “That’s okay, apology accepted.” He smiled. “No, we didn’t. We were only fifteen back then, too young to be having sex. Besides, our parents would freak out if they ever found out about it.” “This is a really good point.” “So, do you have any ideas for presents?” “Not really. I’m not creative enough for these things.” “It doesn’t have to be anything super fancy.” Yamato stood up and walked to a flower vase he thought was pretty. “The meaning is worth more than the present in this case, believe me. What do you think of this?” “In any case, actually.” Sora corrected him. “Got it. I think it’s very beautiful, but I’m not sure if it’s her favorite flower.” “This is just an example, you can choose another one for her.” “Flowers are a good gift to give. They aren’t expensive and often make people happy.” “If the one you’re giving them to loves flowers, by the way.” “Exactly. You don’t want to give a wrong present on your first anniversary.” “I think it’s a much safer bet to give her a book then.” “Himawari doesn’t like flowers?” “She does, but not everytime. She’s an avid reader, so…” “Okay, books are good choices too.” Yamato put the vase away and went to sit down next to Sora again. “What does she like reading?” “Mostly self-help books or biographies.” “Geez.” Sora gave her boyfriend a death glare and he immediately realized he was rude. “I’m sorry.” “That’s fine. These aren’t my kind of books as well.” “So do we agree on books?” “I guess so. It’s the thing I can buy and know I can’t go wrong with.” “Don’t you want to at least give her a flower?” Sora looked around hopeful. “The ie-moto blood is still strong.” Yamato couldn’t help but laugh. “Shut up.” She playfully hit him in the arm. “I just think you can’t go wrong with flowers too.” “This is true, I have to agree.” “It’s so sweet to see how comfortable you are with each other.” “Thank you.” She felt a little embarrassed, but still offered him a smile. “I would really buy a flower too, even if it’s just one.” “I guess it wouldn’t hurt.” Jou shrugged. “Alright, so which one do you suggest?” “We’re gonna be here all night.” “Hey!” Sora gave a light slap on his back and laughed. “Ouch! That hurt.” Keep reading it on FFN or AO3

The Man in the High Castle - Re-watch S01 EP05
Tumblr media
Map of North America as seen in “The Man in the High Castle” by Rama [CC BY-SA 2.0 fr (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/fr/deed.en)]
With Season 4 >>The Final Season<< of “The Man in the High Castle” coming soon (November 15th, 2019), many of us are re-watching Season 1 - 3. I noted some of my impressions of S01 EP05 under the line, so that those, who haven’t seen the whole show yet, are not confronted with spoilers.
S01 EP05 brings Juliana and Joe back to where they started.
Juliana is back in SF, with Frank and her family. Joe got back to NYC and finds himself dragged into the Nazi headquarter. But they both know life will never be the same after meeting each other. Especially Joe knows that when he looks at the picture of Juliana (made by Frank!).
It seems, that the theme of "trust vs. mistrust" is going on in this episode. Another scene shows us, that Mr. Tagomi and his friend Wegener, both are trying to spare the world another atomic war, don't trust each other too, at least not completely.          Frank doesn't trust Juliana anymore with anything (he lies to her about the wound on his arm). The people in the Aikido Training Center don't trust her anymore. She tries to get things right, goes to the Japanese authority and is interrogated. But neither the interrogator nor Inspector Kido trusts her. At the same time, Joe is interrogated at the Nazi Headquarter and it is obvious that John Smith doesn't trust Joe. And it is revealed to Joe that he can't trust John too. Because John had/has knowledge about the ugly "Marshall" ... So it seems to me, that there was a kind of mistrust in Joe from the beginning of his "mission". His invitation "it's about community, it's about family" sounds nice, but it is nothing but a kind of  "keep your friends near, keep your enemies even nearer"  action. Like Lenin said: "Trust is good, but control is better". All dictatorships are the same at this point. Whatever the ideology they represent, they can only rule by fear and control.           Then we see Juliana and Frank make important new connections: Juliana meets a girl from the resistance and this will set her on a very different path, working for the Japanese. On the other side, Frank meets an older man at the remembrance ceremony, that is held at a Shinto Shrine (?). This man invites him and leaves him with the phrase "to life". As we will see later, this will be the first step for Frank on the path back to his true identity. - Juliana applies at the Nippon building for a job, has a very unpleasant experience and in what follows he gets to know Mr. Tagomi.
