What are your favourite sasusaku fanfics of all time???
honestly this is a difficult question because there are SO MANY ss fanfics that i love, but i’ll make a list of my top 5 ss fanfics/oneshots
1. home is there the heart is - Deeppoeticgirl
this is a super cute ss travel fic with some light angst, but is by far one of my favorite fics that i have ever read and have read it multiple times!!! absolutely love how the author incorporated the development of sasuke and sakura’s relationship. very beautifully written and well done. 1000/10.
2. love story - AppleR3
this is a non massacre au where sasuke and sakura start out as friends and fall in love. this is a one shot, but i absolutely love this. ending is adorable and you get all the ss feels you need. highly recommend!
3. empire - pastel daisies
this story gets dark, but one of my favs. not super disturbing or too much either, there’s a good balance of it. this fic does get sad, but the ending and development of ss relationship is amazing. will make you cry both tears of joy and sadness!!
4. adrenalize me - helena-3190
this is an ANBU ss three shot and it’s basically pure smut but one of my favs to read. short and sweet. recommend if you’re in a mood for some porn with feelings ;)
5. ripples - yellow mask
this is a ss fic featuring a hebi!sasuke. i absolutely adore this fanfic. basically sakura gets captured in sound as a slave and ends up with sasuke, and over time he falls in love with her. i think i have read this fic about a hundred times and am currently rereading it! it came out in 2008, but is still very much enjoyable to read!
also love masked desire (also pure smut), heartbeat (SO SAD AND ANGSTY BUT SO GOOD WORTH THE READ), forbidden (royal au with tons of smut ONE OF MY FAVS EVER) and all i want for christmas by @theredconversegirl and this one is an enemies to lovers fic!
happy reading!

Naruto & Kakashi observing Sasuke & Sakura fight
Naruto: why are they acting so angry lately ? And just with one another?
Kakashi: they’re not angry… they’re sexually frustrated
Naruto (shocked): what did you say ???
Kakashi: you must be blind not to have seen the sexual tension between those two… they’re suppressing their subconscious sexual desires… might even be unaware of that.
Naruto: shouldn’t we tell them?
Kakashi: Nah… let them explode… it will be worth it, believe me
Naruto (embarrassed): you should stop reading those books of yours

Sasuke: *sees Sakura staring at him and the baby* Is everything okay, Sakura?
Sakura: Y-Yeah.. *smiles* Why did you ask?
Sasuke: It seems that you're in deep thought.
Sakura: A bit.. I'm just thinking about.. Things.. But nothing to worry about. *giggles nervously*
Sasuke nods while cradling their second-born in his arm. Although she assured him that it was nothing, he knows that something is bothering her.
At bedtime..
Sakura: *lies down beside Sasuke* Finally, he's asleep.
Sasuke: You must be tired.
Sakura: Not really. *smiles*
Sasuke: Sakura, where did you go this morning?
Sakura: W-Why are you asking?
Sasuke: Ah— The food— The food that you brought home was good. So, I thought I can buy from there in another time.
Sakura: Oh.. Yeah.. It's the restaurant across the supermarket's back entrance.
Sasuke: I see.. Well, then. Good night and rest well. *kisses each other*
---
The next day, Sasuke decides to go and check the place. He thinks that he'd be able to find out what happened yesterday, which made Sakura upset.
Sasuke: *goes to the counter* Hi! My wife went here yesterday. I wonder if something happened because she was upset when she got home.
Cashier: I— I have no idea and I didn't notice! B-But you see those three? *points at the 3 men* Th-Those are our regulars. You can check with them. They might have seen something.
Sasuke goes directly to their table and asks the three men. They're denying seeing Sakura yesterday but Sasuke doesn't believe them. The restaurant is packed, so he decides to not cause a scene. Instead, he waits outside until any of them goes out.
One of the men leaves the restaurant and Sasuke follows him. When they're in a secluded area, he puts him under genjutsu.
Tumblr media
Sasuke: Sharingan! *views the man's memory*
|||
Man1: Is that really an Uchiha? *peeks*
Sakura: *overhears the 3 men from the other table*
Man2: Right? He's probably not. Maybe he's a child of adultery. *drinks his tea*
Man3: Or maybe he's Sasuke's karma for all his wrongdoings.
Man1: For sure. A green-eyed Uchiha means it doesn't possess sharingan. Pretty useless.
Man3: Indeed. Imagine being an Uchiha but all you have is the surname. *laughs*
Man2: Fugaku's disdain would be too evident if he's still alive.
Man1: Such a disgrace. That's why if you have kekkei genkai, you shouldn't marry outsiders.
Man2: Well, Sasuke had no choice. Who would he marry? Someone from their clan's grave? *laughs*
Man1: He shouldn't have married at all!! Or at least choose someone with dojutsu.
Man3: I'm sure he'll neglect that baby and will focus on their first-born.
Man2: Their first-born is pretty useless too. Like yes she has sharingan. But she's a girl. A good for nothing—
Sakura: Please stop talking about my family in that manner.
Man3: We're just telling the truth?
Sakura: The truth? Everything that you said was baseless.
Man2: What will you do? Tell on us?
Man1: What will you say to Sasuke? That we're making fun of that half-baked Uchiha?
Sakura: No.. I don't want his hand to get stained with your blood. *gets up as the baby starts crying and leaves*
|||
Sasuke: So you were mocking the Uchiha. You were making fun of my son, which made my wife very upset. *puts him to the side; still under his genjutsu* Stay there until who knows when. *leaves*
---
Sakura: Anata, what took you so long?
Sasuke: Sorry, some work got in the way.. *gets the baby from Sakura* Ahh, my green-eyed baby..
Sakura: Anata.. I'm— I'm sorry..
Sasuke: For what?
Sakura: ...
Sasuke: You don't have control over it, Sakura.
Sakura: Yes.. But.. Our son won't have sharingan..
Sasuke: And?
Sakura: Anata..
Sasuke: Does it matter?
Sakura: He's an Uchiha.
Sasuke: Yes. And not all Uchiha have sharingan. Some had. Some didn't. And that's fine.
Sakura: I'm ruining your bloodline..
Sasuke: Who told you?
Sakura: It's okay, Sasuke-kun..
Sasuke: Remember when you asked me the same thing when you were pregnant with Sarada? What if the baby had green eyes instead?
Sakura: *nods*
Sasuke: And what did I tell you?
Sakura: That it's okay.. And that it's probably better because our child won't suffer.
Sasuke: And you yourself doesn't have kekkei genkai but you're the strongest kunoichi.
Sakura: Yeah..
Sasuke: So what is there to worry about?
Sakura: But the people—
Sasuke: If it doesn't matter to us, then people's opinion shouldn't matter to us as well. Our child is perfect. He'll be strong just like you and me and Sarada. And even if not, we'll be there to protect him.
Sakura: Sasuke-kun! *smiles* Of course.
Sasuke: If the Uchiha is meant to be pink-haired in the future, so be it.
Sakura: *laughs; goes to Sasuke to see their baby*
Sasuke: Thank you, Sakura.. For giving me the most amazing children a father could ask for.
Sakura: They're very lucky to have you as their father, Anata. *smiles*

inspired by this incredibly beautiful artwork by @millientea!
dreams [post-war sasusaku, rated T] ao3 / ffn
In the brief time between the break of his fever and the break of dawn, Sasuke was absent of all his guilt. He held onto Sakura’s hand, and fought sleep to experience the sensation for as long as possible.
After the war, Sasuke's injuries keep him stuck in the hospital. Sakura visits every day.
First Sasuke lost a war with himself. Then he lost an arm. Then the infection and the fever struck, making him keel over then shiver feebly in his hospital bed for three days straight.
His more lucid moments were filled with strangers whizzing into his room to poke and prod him and stick needles horribly into his arm. And when the fever took hold, it carried him downstream to delirium. His nightmares were kind enough to visit him in waking hours, magnified and painted in strong color and detail. And each time he drifted briefly back to consciousness he was greeted with hot, billowing pain at the stump of his arm and the sound of his vitals blaring.
Later a team of doctors inform him that he’s survived a deadly case of sepsis and avoided a second amputation of his left arm. He’ll need bedrest and continued close monitoring. Naruto’s healing well, he hears. Figures.
The days blur. An IV chains Sasuke to bed, where he chokes on boredom thick as smoke. He memorizes the markings of each bird that lands on his windowsill. He watches a ball of dust in the corner move three riveting inches to the left over the course of twenty-four hours. He whips out his sharingan to memorize the lines of his palm, and compares that image to a corresponding record from the last time he was bored to death in a hospital. His heart line has grown longer.
Monotony breaks whenever Sakura breezes into his room.
“I brought you apples.” She smiles at him, a little knowingly. The apples are cut neatly into decorative slices.
She visits at the beginning and end of each shift. In the mornings she smiles brightly in a crisp white coat, and twelve hours later she still smiles brightly, with tired circles under her eyes and loose uncombed hair. This time she’s wearing civilian clothes, here to see him even on her day off.
She’s fearless, for her part. He’s quiet.
When he thinks back to the haze of fever, he remembers slender and cool fingers smoothing damp hair from his brow. A swirl of healing chakra that felt like the way her voice sounds. When he awoke, a nurse mentioned the doctor attending his case invented a new chakra technique on the spot to siphon away the infection.
Sasuke didn’t need to ask who. She never said anything, and he never asked.
He suspects Sakura’s involvement elsewhere, too. When he thinks about why he’s not kept in handcuffs or locked away entirely. In the roasted tomatoes that appear on his meal trays. The reason why Naruto is allowed the occasional visit, shuffling in on crutches and staying until the nurses chase him away.
Sakura sets the plate of apples at his bedside. Today, they resemble rabbits. Sasuke has never eaten more apples in his life, but he does not think of complaining.
“Good news. Your IV is coming out tomorrow!” She smiles, waiting for his reaction.
Right. He should be happy. The feeling flickers dimly and goes out like a damp torch.
Sasuke doesn’t know what his life will look like from here on out. There’s nothing left to hunt after. The main sources of his suffering have all vanished or changed form. All that awaits him is empty space and time—time to reflect, to let the cumulation of all his actions and decisions sink in.
He doesn’t regret the desertion, the treason, as much as others might hope. If he were to go back in time, knowing what he knows about the village, his choices might even look similar. But he regrets hurting the people who cared for him.
He regrets hurting her.
Sakura’s smile has faded. “What’s wrong?”
Sasuke wants to sink under his blankets, to be alone with his guilt. “Nothing.”
“Are you in pain?”
He throws her a glare. “I said it’s nothing.”
Years ago, this would have been enough to scare her away. Now green eyes meet his with full force. “Don’t do this. Don’t be distant.” Sakura’s fingers flex and curl at her sides. “Whatever is on your mind, you can tell me.”
She treats him with such kindness, such patience, though he’s certain he doesn’t deserve it.
“Why are you here, Sakura?” he asks quietly.
“I’m a doctor,” she says, with a flash of irritation.
“You know what I mean.” Sasuke’s vision swims like the beginnings of a migraine. “Leave me. Get on with your life.” He wants the words to carry a touch of contempt, but the lump in his throat filters it all out.
“Why would I leave you?” The pure sincerity of her voice cuts him through. “We just got you back.”
His tongue feels thick and heavy. “I’ve hurt you.” How could she forget?
“I’ve hurt you, too.”
He manages a shake of the head. It’s not the same.
“It’s in the past,” she insists. “We want you in our lives—we always have!”
“I don’t understand why,” he bites, gaining strength.
“Because I love you!”
Birds take off from the windowsill.
Wringing her hands, Sakura clarifies, more weakly, “I love all my friends.”
An icy flame tears through Sasuke’s entire body. He doesn’t believe her. Somehow, he must have tricked her. After everything he’s done, how can someone lower themselves so deeply as to love him? Hot pressure rises behind his eyes. He opens his mouth to recite every reason why she’s wrong.
“So get used to it,” Sakura snaps, recovering and doubling down, like she knows what he’s about to say. Sakura, who has always been a little brazen with her affection, who has so much love and care to give that it confounds him and most others. “I don’t care what’s happened or how long it’s been. You’re still my teammate.”
Sasuke feels a phantom of his past self crouch on his chest. It whispers, push her away, break the plate of apples. Trust yourself and no one else. Be alone. This is the way he knows to protect himself. It’s worked so well, all throughout his life, he can’t imagine anything different.
Does he need to protect himself, from her? Did he ever?
“And…you’re still my friend.” Sakura’s shoulders rise and fall in a deep breath. “If that’s what you want.”
Outside, a raven’s feather drifts in a slow spiral of wind. Sasuke nods.
Sakura straightens. “Good.” Her eyes are jade reflecting fire. “Being friends won’t kill you, I promise. See you in the morning.”
In the morning, Sakura arrives to remove his IV. She’s still carrying an air of quiet victory. To inch this close, to insist on picking up their friendship exactly where they left it, that’s some audacity. Bravery, even.
He needs it.
His heart would crack without it.
Sakura carefully loosens the adhesive and presses gauze over the IV site. Sasuke is already looking away, taking a shallow breath to prepare himself.
“There’s no needles at this part,” she says.
It’s true, he hates needles—one glimpse and he breaks into a cold sweat. But he’s never told anyone. It bothers him that she noticed. “How did you know?”
“I’m a doctor,” she says, which explains very little. “It’ll be quick, I promise.”
“Still hate it,” he breathes.
“I know,” she says. “Done.”
He looks back. She smiles when their gazes meet, holding down pressure on his arm. He didn’t feel a thing.
“You make a small sound.” Her voice is soft. “Under your breath. Like you’re trying to speak but hold it back.”
Sasuke thought he hid the discomfort well. If he can miss such small details about himself, no wonder he was wrong about almost everything—what path to take, and where to place blame, and who to trust. His world has turned over too many times to count.
His senses hone in on Sakura’s touch, muted as it is through gloves and layers of gauze. She’s never changed. Never failed to ease his hurts.
He wants to ask about the fever. The infection that strode in like one last attempt by the world to kill him. She saved his life.
He feels his hand float through the air, stretching towards her face.
Empty air buzzes where his fingers should be grazing her brow. He’s still not used to the loss of his dominant hand. His stump lowers back to his side. Sakura’s expression remains calm, unknowing.
“Thank you,” he says instead.
He knows what the words will mean to her. And so he says it.
A soft smile overtakes Sakura’s face. Sasuke is known for his infamous gaze, but now he doesn’t know where to put it. When to meet her crinkling eyes and for how long. If it’s considered normal to observe the rise of her cheek, the strands of pink hair falling around her face. If he should risk a glance at her smiling lips. The decisions overwhelm him, and he finds he must look away.
Something is different, he thinks.
.
.
“He’s on your roster today? Good luck.”
Sasuke’s room is stationed at a quiet bend of the hall, a blind spot between patient rooms and administrative offices where hospital staff stop to gossip before continuing on their rounds. Whether he wants to or not, he’s often forced to eavesdrop.
“—ripped out his IV. Yes, just ripped it out. Three times, I swear. Wouldn’t let anyone touch him.”
“Have you noticed all those horrible birds outside his window? The crows?”
A laugh. “Never seen anything like it. Like a curse, I swear—”
“Excuse me.” The conversation grinds to a halt at Sakura’s sharp voice. “Room Four is still waiting on warm blankets.”
Footsteps scatter in two different directions. Sakura sweeps into his room. Her face is a storm. If he saw that expression on a battlefield, he would reach for his weapon. He pictures her cutting apple slices into playful shapes to reverse the effect.
“Don’t listen to them,” she mutters, and throws the curtain divider closed.
“I don’t care.”
“I care.” Absent-minded, a frown tugging at the corners of her mouth, Sakura does something she’s never done before: she sits on his bed. All Sasuke’s attention is pulled to the hand’s width of space between his ankle and the slight dip of her weight on the mattress. He slowly shifts his legs away, careful not to draw her notice.
Sakura pulls a velvet pouch out of her coat. “Here. I brought something.”
The most exciting part of Sasuke’s day was when the scent of antiseptic wafted through the door a little stronger than usual. His interest spikes. “What is it?”
Sakura opens the pouch and pours dozens of black and white Go pieces onto the bedspread. She begins arranging the board among the folds of his blankets, and after a moment, Sasuke leans forward to help. He hasn’t played Go since he was a child, but the smooth, round stones feel familiar in his palm, and the rules come back quickly. They play five games in a row without speaking. Sakura wins the first, and he wins the last four.
When they look up again, it’s dark. Sasuke’s neck is stiff from bending over the game for so long. Time has never passed so quickly for him in the hospital.
Sakura is sitting fully atop the bed now, as she has for the past three games, legs crossed with a pensive hand held to her chin. She packs away the game pieces in silence and pulls the drawstring shut. A crease lingers between her eyebrows.
“You could have died.”
Her eyes swell with tears. She doesn’t make a sound.
“I didn’t,” Sasuke says, soft as he can.
“But you could have.” The tears flow faster than she can wipe them away.
“You didn’t let me.” It makes his gut twist to see her cry, even if she cries because his life matters to her.
“I almost didn’t bring the flowers that day. I didn’t know if you’d want them.” Sakura lifts a sleeve to her face. “If I wasn’t there when the shock hit…”
Sasuke struggles to follow. His memory of the whole ordeal is hazy. He has a vague recollection of a nurse removing a vase of wilted flowers from the bedside in the days after the fever lifted.
Sakura’s shoulders tremble with a sob. “I could have lost you.”
“You didn’t lose me.” He catches her hand. Fingers slide together like whispering a secret. “You have me.”
She lifts her tearstained face. Sasuke feels feverish as his words echo back in the silence of their breathing. Her lips part, bitten and red.
“You only ripped out the IV twice, Sasuke-kun.”
Her expression is knit with determination. Sasuke can’t stop himself—a smile twitches onto his mouth. Sakura seems confused by the reaction, studying him hard.
Movement flashes in the corner of Sasuke’s eye as a large black bird lands smoothly on the windowsill. He recognizes this one for a miniscule nick in its leftmost flight feather.
“And the birds. They’re ravens,” he says evenly. “Not crows.”
Sakura smiles, sudden and shining and wide. Sasuke doesn’t fully understand the meaning of the exchange, but contentment sweeps over him.
The warmth of her hand lingers long after she lets go, and he remembers something about the fever.
.
.
The infection stalls for days, but when the worst comes, it comes quickly.
First Sasuke’s mouth fills with saliva, then arrives a tsunami of inexplicable dread, and that’s all the warning he receives before an important current in his body shifts off-course and begins to sweep him away. Sasuke breathes deep. A sweet scent hovers in the air. Sakura arrived a moment ago with fresh-cut flowers.
His stump throbs with such a sick, bleeding ache that he loses his grip on his senses. His limbs are all trembling. Another breath. His lungs allow just enough air to call out her name.
Footsteps, a sharp voice. “Sasuke? What’s wrong?”
Healing chakra skims over his body. Sakura lets out a tense breath.
Sasuke knows suffering like he knows the face of an old friend. He can feel it loom over him, its breath ghosting the back of his neck.
“It’s—it’s serious, Sasuke-kun.” The air thickens with chakra, a thrum strong enough to detect by ear. “But you’re going to be fine.”
The breath returns to his lungs, but in exchange, screaming hot pain erupts at his arm and reverberates through every corner of his body. Each pain that flares and fades is replaced quickly by another. His mouth and the tip of his nose go numb. His vision cuts in and out. He is a boat tossed by angry waves, kept afloat solely by the light touch of Sakura’s fingertips.
“Don’t leave,” he hears himself say.
Her voice finds him like sunlight. “I won’t.”
“Do you hate me, Sakura?”
Not long ago, Sasuke hated her. The ache of hatred never left his chest. He hated her so much that her face sometimes replaced his nightmares, and he would wake up blinking away tears. He understands if she feels the same.
He never hears her response. A dark, turbulent quiet rushes over his head, and his old friend follows after him.
At dawn on the day his fever breaks, Sasuke floats awake, greeted by swirls of light floating on the inside of his eyelids. His body feels like his own, but different, like he’s been pulled apart and put back together in a different order. He curls his fingers—the numb tingle of phantom pain lights on one side. The fingers of his other hand tighten around something.
He opens his eyes to a world washed in soft grey. To Sakura’s sleeping face, her hair silver in the light. A dream? No, his mind doesn’t grant him peaceful dreams.
Her head rests tired and heavy on the edge of the bed. Between them lies their hands, tightly clasped, as if they met in a moment of turbulence and held on ever since. Long enough so he can’t distinguish her touch from his own. Flowers watch on the windowsill, shedding petals.
.
.
Sasuke plays more games of Go. Less needles are stuck into his arm. He begins to walk again. He feels fresh air on his face. Sakura’s visits continue like clockwork, until one morning she fails to walk through his door.
He sits and watches the birds as morning stretches into afternoon. The chair that has never left his bedside remains empty. After years apart, how quickly he’s grown accustomed to her presence. But this stretch of time is coming to a close. When he leaves the hospital, he doubts he will see her so often.
His window looks out onto the hospital roof, crisscrossed with pipes and exhaust vents, and a small sliver of the street. When the wind blows just right, the branches of a sakura tree wave into view, buds unfurling.
Hard as Sasuke tried to shunt away his past life, he could never escape the spring. The torture of falling petals, of green and pink. The world around him transformed as if to ensure he could never forget her.
Daylight is getting long when Sakura wobbles in, rubbing her eyes. “Hi.”
Sasuke’s spine straightens. “Hey.”
She sits in her spot by the bed, where he’s been playing a game of Go with himself. “How’s the game?”
“I’m losing,” he says.
Sakura smiles and shifts one of the white stones to a dangerous location. Warmth floods Sasuke’s chest, though now he’s certain to lose. Their hands move back and forth over the imaginary board, bold and quick.
Sakura yawns victoriously as she captures his last tile. “Another?”
Exhaustion shadows her eyes, but if he answers yes, she’ll delay sleep even longer. Does she ever sleep? Hospital staff are always wandering the halls to seek her opinion, or pull her into surgeries, or hand her a stack of paperwork. Yet she carves out a portion of her valuable time for him.
Sasuke shakes his head. But he’s not selfless enough to give up her company so soon. “How are you?”
Her tired gaze lifts and flicks away. A faint blush dusts her cheeks. Why? Is it strange for him to ask? He’s still ruminating when she answers. “I’m okay. It’s been a long day. Emergency surgery, complications, everything. I can’t remember the last time I slept…” Their fingers brush twice as they put away the game pieces. “I’m really sorry I couldn’t come earlier.”
“You don’t have to be sorry.”
Sakura leans against his bed and drops her head onto her arms. “Hope you didn’t miss me too much.”
What can he say? He did miss her.
Springtime has come again. The season used to drive him mad. The sakura flowering all at once, all over the continent, wherever he looked. The petals scattering like rain in the wind, catching in the folds of his cloak. The sight of blossoms on bare wood, crossing over his head in a blooming lattice. The five-petaled flowers, the five fingers of a hand he would never touch again. The color. It tested his patience, his devotion to his goal like nothing else.
Sasuke skims his fingers over the pink wave of her hair. He’s always wanted to, deep down. Sakura cracks open her eyes, catches him red-handed in his affection. He runs a thumb in the barest caress across her cheekbone. He is at his weakest in the spring.
“Come here,” he mumbles, fairly certain that she will. Terrified that she won’t.
“Where?” she whispers.
Sasuke lifts his chin. He rests his hand on the blanket. His fingertips burn from touching her. “Here.”
In the brief time between the break of his fever and the break of dawn, Sasuke was absent of all his guilt. He held onto Sakura’s hand, and fought sleep to experience the sensation for as long as possible. He did not deserve her, but he pretended he did.
Even as Sakura slides into the bed, rests her head in his lap, he cannot fully believe what he’s seeing. She presses closer to him, as if she wants to be close, and her eyes drift shut, as if his presence soothes her. A spell falls over Sasuke as he listens to her breathing. His hand lowers to her back.
Maybe, in the end, it’s as simple as she said. She loves him.
Sleepy green eyes blink open with a trace of shyness, of the girl that used to blush each time he spared her a glance. He will never admit how often he tested his powers. “You don’t mind?”
“No,” he says.
Sakura climbs higher. She folds her arms across his chest like he’s a pillow and tucks her cheek into the crook of her elbow. Sasuke’s heartbeat grows unsteady. Her hair smells the same, like jasmine.
Sasuke never imagined a future beyond his revenge, that his life could continue on and contain moments lit in a glow like sunlight through petals. Holding her awakens desires that have nothing to do with pain and sacrifice. He wants to stroke her hair until she falls asleep. He wants to visit her dreams. He wants even more. His chest aches in the way he once thought was hatred.
He touches her cheek, straightening out a lock of silky hair. She doesn’t stir.
Sasuke closes his eyes, and like he’s never had trouble with it before, dreams.

Oook we're doing this.
It has been YEARS since I've written a Naruto fic. Some ideas have been simmering but from a combo of life being chaos and some mental health/creative spark challenges, just haven't had it in me to run with them.
Till now. 😏
My first multi-chap SasuSaku fic since A Twist in Time is actually, for real, in the works. Set in the blank period. It'll be a blend of my favourite genres and tropes (ie romance/adventure/angst/action/fluff/slow burn/mutual pining). A bit self indulgent. Mostly an attempt to wake up that spark and my rusty writing skills.
Timing of first chap tbc but hopefully soon! I'm honestly just making this post to hold myself accountable lol 😆

TROUBLED TIMES
Sakura Haruno was the only descendant of the Haruno clan. This clan compared to the other three clans was the weakest, with less purchasing and military power. That is why she had arranged a marriage with the youngest son of the Uchiha leader, Sasuke Uchiha. As the conflict between the Uzumaki and the Hyuga was increasingly evident, the Haruno wanted to lighten the marriage to formalize the alliance, and have the protection of the Uchiha.

As they were finally left alone, Sasuke took another swig of sake, as did Sakura, sitting quietly next to one another. It was a peaceful silence, just small sips of sake shared between them in the dark evening, accented by hanging lights across the top of the bar. Sasuke put his glass down, his gaze returning to his companion. “The dobe forgot.

SasuSaku: Sacrificed To The Banished Prince Chapter 2
Sasuke's frown deepened as he read a letter sent by his new fiance. When he sent one to her, he fully expected her to cooperate as the previous women had but was mistaken. This was the first time he'd received a written reply or a reply at all. Skimming the short letter once more, the prince asked the maids standing before him, "Lady Haruno personally handed this to you?"
They nodded, bowing lower with pale faces too afraid to meet his gaze.
He didn't dwell on it because their behavior was nothing new. All who tend to him cower in fear, and they have since his twelfth birthday, ten years ago. That's when The Curse awakened. On that day so long ago, the royal castle's doors were open to celebrate the second prince's birthday with a massive celebration. People traveled from far and wide to witness his debut in society.
A foreign-looking man approached a naive and soft-spoken Sasuke, who was too nervous of insulting guests to say something. That was how he ended up bitten on the back of his shoulder by razor-sharp teeth.
The next thing he remembered was waking up in chains, the sound of his mother's soft weeping stirring him from his rest. After that, each time the moon was visible at night, his appearance and personality would morph into something akin to a beast. His skin would turn many shades darker, nails and teeth would sharpen, hair would grow wildly down his back, and hand-like wings would grow from his shoulder blades. The mild-mannered boy became a bloodlusting demon each and every night.
Changing his appearance like that put Sasuke through agonizing pain, and his family searched far and wide for ways to break the curse while also searching for the man who'd bitten him.
Itachi, the first Uchiha prince, managed to locate the attacker, a snake-like wizard named Orochimaru. When Orochimaru was captured and brought back to Konoha, he claimed to be unable to eradicate the curse. The king and queen begged for a way to help their precious son, leading to the awful wizard tricking them into giving up their lives.
Now, Sasuke's appearance barely changed at night, minus on nights of full moons. Orochimaru claimed that the royal family stole something from him, and this was his way of enacting revenge. He told the terrified child that the curse would be broken only when he, too, lost something he held dear.
The previous king, Madara Uchiha, left retirement to run the kingdom until the first prince was ready to rule. His first act was to banish poor Sasuke to the abandoned snowy forests of Northern Konoha. The man claimed keeping someone so volatile near the inner cities was too dangerous. The second prince's appearance may only slightly change most nights, but the murderous personality shift wasn't destroyed.
Each evening at sunset, Sasuke chained himself up so his alternate identity wouldn't be free to wreak havoc. As a result, the Uchiha man rarely slept, leaving him stoic and lacking in energy. After a decade of this struggle, he began to lose hope of ever breaking the curse. That is, until his eighteenth birthday when the king started arranging marriages for his nephew. Sasuke was nervous but excited to finally have someone other than the standoffish staff of the manor to speak to.
That first woman, a pretty brunette named Maharu, did not obey the rules. She came to the third floor in the night, only to witness Sasuke at his worst. As one would expect, Maharu fled the manor in terror. In the morning, the prince was informed that she'd fallen down a ravine in her distress and broken her neck. His first fiance died.
The next fiance lasted much longer, almost two months. Their wedding day was closing in when The Curse broke free of his binds and attacked her. She was the second woman to die.
After that, Sasuke was overcome with guilt. He refused to cause a third casualty. When a new fiance would arrive after that, he'd give them the option of returning to their home or offer to provide them with enough money to start a new life elsewhere without their families' knowledge. Every single one chose to disappear. This led to the public believing the second prince was murdering each and every one of the poor women. In Sasuke's eyes, he was okay with that because he deserved it. Two people died because of him.
'The way this letter is written makes it seem as though Lady Haruno doesn't want to return to her family,' Sasuke thought, grabbing a pen and paper to scrawl out a response to the woman's letter. 'This will be another one to choose to disappear rather than go home.'
"With all due respect, this is a manner that I cannot change my position on. Please reside here for the next month while I prepare for your departure."
A sharp pain flared up Sasuke's neck from the back of his shoulder. It made his teeth grit. Somewhat shakily, he folded the letter and quickly shooed the maids away before approaching the double doors at the back of his bedroom. He opened it, hands trembling while latching thick metal cuffs around his wrists.
"It's no use. This one will die. I won't let another one slip through my fingers." A raspier version of the prince's voice eeks out as the man pants for breath to prevent himself from verbalizing his pain.
In the midst of transforming each dusk and dawn, there are a few moments where the two personalities overlap. Sasuke could see everything The Curse saw at night, and The Curse could see everything Sasuke saw during the day, but it was only at these brief minutes that the two could communicate.
Sasuke didn't say anything because there was no use. He spent years trying to reason with The Curse to no avail. It'd be a waste of breath at this point.
"Coward."
The following day, Yamamoto appeared to free the prince from his restraints and bandaged his wrists which were bleeding from The Curse attempting to escape. The pale man spoke calmly because this wasn't a new situation, "Lady Haruno requested to meet you face to face."
'Why did he refer to her like that?' It almost seemed like the butler was trying to insinuate something, but Sasuke didn't understand what it was.
Apparently, that was obvious because the butler lowered his voice while cleaning up the first aid kit mess, "I may be speaking out of turn, but there is something peculiar about this woman, My Lord."
"Elaborate."
Yamamoto bowed with his gaze low, "I'm unsure if I'll be able to properly explain. Perhaps you should accept our lady's request to meet."
Sasuke tried convincing himself to meet his short-term fiance but couldn't. Whenever he looked at a woman, he could only see the terror on his first two fiances' faces when they discovered his secret. He also didn't want to give The Curse a chance to memorize his target's face. Though the Haruno woman might see his avoidance of her as an insult, it was for her own good in the long run. It was to keep her safe.
A day passed.
Another letter awaited when he woke. 'Please reconsider.'
"...This is all she wrote?" Sasuke asked.
Yamamoto nodded with an uncomfortable expression. Sighing stressfully, the prince writes a politely worded letter to deny the woman's request again.
Another day passed.
No letter arrived for him after that.
The butler explained that Lady Haruno had become agitated. She wasn't eating or sleeping. She wouldn't speak to the staff or even her personal maid.
'Is she throwing a tantrum because I won't give her what she wants? I'd heard Baron Haruno's eldest daughter was pampered but thought it was just a rumor. It must be true. She sounds spoiled.'
Sasuke's curiosity got the better of him, and he decided to try to sneak a peek at his fiance if only to grasp what Yamamoto was talking about. Carefully and quietly, he roamed the halls of the manor. Any staff he encountered would gasp, bow politely, and scamper away in fear without meeting his gaze. The prince stopped acknowledging how uncomfortable their reactions made him long ago, so he ignored it all and continued with his goal in mind.
'I can't let her see me. That's the most important thing.'
Finally, he reached the hallway of her bedroom and was surprised to see the door ajar and the room empty. Since the woman wasn't present, he wandered inside. Snooping around in a lady's dwelling was rude. He knew that, but he had no choice if he was to learn anything today. It was spotless, the entire room, though he was sure the maids mentioned that Lady Haruno refused to have them tidy up on her behalf.
'Does that mean she's cleaned on her own? How peculiar….'
He opened the wardrobe door, and his eyes widened. It was almost entirely empty. The dresses inside were shamefully plain, as well. This confused the prince further because the Haruno family was incredibly well-off and notorious for flaunting said wealth.
His brow furrowed as he sighed and closed the door, 'They must've sent her empty-handed in hopes of me purchasing her a new wardrobe. Greedy leeches.'
Sasuke assumed this was all the information he'd be able to gather today, so he wandered to the window absently, only to freeze when his gaze landed on an unfamiliar woman. Long pastel-pink hair ran down her turned back as she swept the dirty snow and leaves off of the walkway to the garden.
'She's so small. Is she really the same age as me? And why is she doing manual labor?'
The prince's head tilted as he watched Lady Haruno briefly. For some reason, the picture bothered him. It felt somehow sad.
He tore his gaze from the petite woman and left her bedroom to find a maid, who trembled under his watchful eye, "Why is the Lady outside? It's inappropriate. Who told her she had to perform such tasks?"
'Did one of the staff members try to bully her?'
"We've tried to stop her, but she refuses to listen, My Lord. She insists on earning her keep while she's a guest here."
'Maybe she's bored. Her room had nothing in it to pass the time.'
Sasuke couldn't accept things as they were and shook his head, "When she comes inside, take her to the library. Give her full access. Ask her what her hobbies are and provide anything she asks for. Do not allow her to do things like this in the future."
"Yes, My Lord. As you wish."
After returning to his own dwelling, the prince fell into the seat at his desk to focus on work. Though he'd been banished by the king, he was still expected to manage Northern Konoha's villages as a royal family prince. He tried to focus for hours but couldn't because the image of that pink-haired woman plagued his mind.

Sasuke is a senior college student that frequents the library during his free time. He likes to stay there because 1) the temperature is perfect, 2) it's quiet, and 3) no one bothers him. He always sits at his self-proclaimed spot near the last shelf.
Finals are coming, so professors let the students study during their classes. They are still required to report for attendance but they're not required to study in the classroom. Sasuke takes this opportunity to stay at the library and pass time.
He goes to the 3rd floor and enters the room. To his dismay, his spot is not available. That whole section is under renovation. He doesn't want to share desks, so he goes to the table by the window.
He takes out a random book from his bag and pretends to study. He looks around and looks out the window eventually. He sees someone slumped on the floor outside the building across. It seems that she's also studying by the looks of the scattered books and notebooks around her. Sasuke takes out a notebook and starts drawing random things. Every once in a while he can't help but look down the window.
"It's been hours and she's still there. With that number of books and readings, she must be a pre-med student," he reckons. He checks the time and packs his things. At exactly 4 PM, he leaves the library and calls it a day.
The following days are routinary. Sasuke notices that the girl is at her "spot" everyday, too. "For three consecutive days, I never saw her eat. Not even once. And she stays there longer than my stay here at the library." Sasuke isn't sure if his conclusion is true, so he decides to observe her keenly on the 4th day.
"So, she doesn't really eat, huh. How can she even study?" he wonders.
On the 5th day, he goes to the university earlier than usual, making sure he's there earlier than her. He leaves a paper bag on her spot. He rushes to the library and looks out the window to wait for her arrival.
She comes and immediately sees the paper bag with big "To pink-haired girl" on it. She looks around but sees no one. She opens the bag and sees a disposable bento box and a note. It reads:
Hello! I noticed that you don't eat the entire time you're studying. Please have this. I swear it's not poisoned and I swear I'm not a creep. (drawing of a T-rex)
She places the bag to the side and starts studying. This frustrates Sasuke. It seems to him that she doesn't plan to eat the food. He opens his notebook and starts doodling instead. After an hour, he decides to go out and have some snacks. He glances at the window and sees the girl eating the bento meal he gave. "Damnit, how did I miss her opening the bento?" He stays and watches until she finishes the food. "I'm not sure if she liked it, but I guess she finished everything.."
---
Monday comes and Sasuke prepares another bento box for her. "Why am I even doing this for a stranger," he thinks as he rolls another maki.
He goes back to the spot and leaves the bag. He notices something posted on the wall. He goes near it and reads the note on a stationery:
Dear Dino-san,
Thanks for the food, but more importantly, thanks for your concern! The beef gyudon and mushrooms were tasty. I enjoyed the fruits as well!
Please don't worry about me. I'll bring snacks for myself next time.
Thanks again! Good luck on your exams!
Pink hair (✿˶’◡˘)♡
Sasuke smiles as he pulls the paper. He quickly pens a note and leaves it in the bag.
He's at his spot, anticipating the girl's reaction.
She opens the bag and sees two notes:
1st note:
Hi, I hope you liked the 1st one. Here's your supply for today. Eat and study well! (drawing of a T-rex)
|||
2nd note:
It's too late! :P
Also, if you're referring to protein bars or chewing gums for snacks, don't even think about it! Let me give you food until your exams are over. It's easy to make because I also prepare food for myself.
(cuter T-rex drawing)
She smiles at the note. Her smile is so big that it's evident from where Sasuke is sitting. It makes him very happy.
---
In the following days, he prepares more complicated dishes. They still exchange notes and in just few days, they become comfortable which each other, ranting about things. She says:
The food is super good but you're making me fat, Dino-san. (ू˃̣̣̣̣̣̣︿˂̣̣̣̣̣̣ ू)
Our exam in Cell Bio was super hard. I quit!!! (◕︿◕✿)
How come you have so much time preparing food? Don't you need to review too? └| ∵ |┘
What's your favorite dinosaur? I feel like it's not T-rex. You just draw it because it's the easiest one. 乁༼☯‿☯✿༽ㄏ
On Friday, Sasuke goes to her spot as usual. He takes the note posted on the wall and reads it:
Dino-san,
Sorry I forgot to tell you that today (Thu) is my last day of exams. I don't need to review anymore. Sorry, I won't be at my spot tomorrow (Fri). ◕︵◕
—Haruno Sakura
"Sakura..," he sighs as he puts the note into his bag. He picks up the paper bag and goes on his way.
He's still thinking about the note. "Haruno Sakura.. I must research about her when I get to the library." He goes to his spot..
"Dino-san!!"
It's the pink-haired girl sitting on his spot. She extends her hand for a handshake.
He reaches for her hand. "U-Uchiha Sasuke. S-Sakura, right?" He's very nervous yet excited. She's prettier face-to-face.
Sakura nods and they sit down. She looks outside, "so, this is where you look at me.. It's unfair that I couldn't even see you! Hmm. That angle is super unflaterring. I'm sure my forehead is big from this view.."
Sasuke laughs. "Not at all!" He continues laughing. "Sakura.. How did you know where I sit? Did you ask the librarian?"
"You underestimate the Science girl in me, huh?" she says as she giggles. "I used two mirrors. One regular and one convex."
"What? When? I didn't notice."
"Of course I didn't make it obvious. I used these." She shows the small mirrors that she used. "It was quite hard to see but I guess after 3 days, I was able to figure it out."
"That's— That's ingenious.."
She giggles again. "Thanks. I should have extra marks from my prof for applying Physics in my daily life." She bursts into laughter and takes out her phone. "Then I used this to zoom in. Then I saw you.. The cute Dino-san.. Who's always looking after me. Thank you, Sasuke-kun."
"Sasuke-kun.." he repeats while smiling at the thought that she mentioned his name that way.
"You said you're also preparing food for yourself. I guess my theory is correct that you only make bento for me." She pouts while crossing her arms.
"I'm sorry for lying. I don't have enough time to make two."
"From now on, I'll prepare your bento meal. In fact, I made you one for today."
"Y-You did?"
"Yes! So, I'll be on Dino diet and you'll be on Sakura diet. I'll make you fat too!"
Sasuke laughs and stares at her.
"Thank you, Sasuke-kun. My studies became easier when I learned that someone was cheering me on. Honestly, I was stress-eating before. I feel like your meals made me healthier."
"You're welcome. I'm glad I did that. And– And you're not fat. I don't know where you get that idea but you're not. And even so, you're still.. You're still.."
"I'm still what? Cute?" she laughs it off.
"Still beautiful.."
She blushes. "Stop! I might believe you if you'll continue with that."
He smiles and nods.
"Hmm. Your finals week isn't done right? So now, let me support you too in my own little ways.. Well, if you'll let me.." Sakura offers sincerely.
"Yes, please.."
"Okay, I know you have an exam later. Give me your arm!"
He extends his arm. She sits beside him and takes his wrist. "Don't move.. You said your favorite dinosaur is stegosaurus.. I practiced drawing it.." She's so focused with her drawing. He takes this time to observe her —how her hair and her scent are so fragrant, how her hands are so warm and soft. "There! That's your good luck charm. I'm sure you'll do good with that and the food that I made in your stomach."
Tumblr media
"Thanks, Sakura.. The drawing.. I'm not sure if that's a dino going fast with the skateboard or it's his fart." They both share a laugh.
"Silence!!!" The librarian warned.
