I will be pulling a wild one here

I am shifter before shiftok and shifting tumbler and so on, I was part of the firsts shifting plataforms to ever exist, the work of my friends and colleagues are diluted and changed in many methods the community still using today, or use and not yet know about it.

Shiftok is a lie. It is straight up a lie, more than half of accounts in there are lying, take the big 10 accounts all around the globe and you will see how deeply unsettling and ego blinded these ppl are.

I will share a lil secret to shifting on tumbler, most influencers KNOW that they are talking shit nowadays. The so proclaimed creators of shittok vanglorizes themselves for creating it, but deep down one was a absolute baby shifter and the other one knew her stuff but was caught in drama.

They both are part of the first shifting community ever, started on 2017, they were warned to use their voice to spread information but they decided to blind themselves and continue their fights and dramas.

Besides that, the modern Mainstream Shiftok is around money. TikTok monetizes creators and for these creators to have a base, they need people to watch their videos

Information is freedom, and there is no way to get the proper amount of needed information on shiftok, it is a short video app, we are discussing a experimental practice on reality switching.

Besides that, people now want to make you pay for shifting info, or manifestions courses, and so on

Let me tell a thing that sadly will make sense in the future: Shifting is free, shifting has always been free and those people do not have authority on the matter to even teach it

While the community has been improving, there is a lack on the shifter vanguard, on ACTUAL new stuff and an actual understanding behind shifting. Some people shift by oversimplifying things, others by hard looking into why's and hows, both are valid but they need to correspond to each other. If a community is too complex shifting becomes too hard, if a community is too simple shifting becomes a myth.

That is the state of the community, anyones out there who wants to understand why's and how's can't even find good bases since everything is gatekept and even the so called shifters from shiftok can't even understand it or desire to share it.

Therefore creating a community that is constantly a lie, people tell experiences that don't match when being re-telled and either make sense, many have been spotted doing so. Shifting changes someone, it is a trace marked on their minds forever, to fully shift is to be forever changed. Most people are either LDs or having false awakenings and calling it a day.

Besides all that people are fighting for stupid ideas. Being taboo, race changing was never a topic in our community before it began on shiftok. You know why? Because everyone knew that infinity selfs does not mean that you are equally in all realities, we all playing roles, if I am certain race in my Dr that is not the one I am in this reality, then I won't act like I am part of the minority in this reality.

As for the hypocrisies of these people, most accounts that moved this debate was being xenophobic on Portuguese and Spanish communities.

As an extra information, If you know Sunni Method, you should know that sunni was one of the first shifters (on our understanding of DR, WR and scripting) that created and sourced so many different shifting practices and helped the first gen of the community to understand the practice. She did not only proved shifting to the subliminal communities as well define a work that would be still being used today, the Sunni method is the basic for every method. And she is afro American, and for today terms, she would be changing her race depending on the reality.

For the people that keep making futile problematization on this topic, it shows that you never fully understood shifting and created fake scenarios on your mind to source a point that was never a actual point. Minorities need support on day to day life, not whatever people are believing on determined practice.

As for respawning, anti-respawing are a bunch of ungrateful. Respawning made the very much bases of modern shifting. And for the respawners that belief that it should end on self harm, you do not understand how respawning work and how delicate are the structured you about to mess. If you are suffering from any mental difficulties, search professional help and not spiritual help that often leads to bad escapism.

Going back

The individual journey of someone starts on the seed planted by the community they find shifting, the hard truth is that shifting isn't only a personal experience but a collective one. In another words the community state you get, is the seed of your journey. Before 2018 people had a hard time shifting because they could not understand what it was, a few years later the community achieved a gold state with sharing knowledge and methods (which the English community would constantly gatekeek to their siblings communities btw) and after the mainstreaming on TikTok shifting went down to a stone age.

People are debating either if they can or cannot do things. In shifting. The. Belief. Of. Infinity.

I can understand why baby shifters do these questions, but I see people on this community since 2020 and the ones from 2019 who end up on the wasteland of other social platforms, asking questions that are so OBVIOUS

You don't need to know everything, but for star sakes you NEED to understand the basics of the thing you are doing, what a script is and how to write one, a few methods and your own cosmological view settled down.

Shifting allows you to mix and match beliefs like a Lego set, do it for your personal journeys using what other have found in the past.

While people are degrating the community and locking good stuff a way, shifting gets every day harder and harder, becoming everytime a godfied event and a hard and thought task that only a few can achieve, that is the mindset that is being grown on the community.

Why the hell the overall community nowadays have less and less actual experiences that the community a few years ago?

For the future, I am not sure but I bet on the end of the practice in a few years, when outsiders "grow out of it". Some will shift, others will just move on with their spiritual journey and so on, the community slowly fading.

I am not here to bring a salvation message, I am so tired, I have been making so much for the last 5 years, trying so hard to archive, share and teach people about shifting, in a way that was forgotten and locked down.

I am permashifting soon, and I am posting what I know on the community where I learned shifting in my native language, this end up more in a vent and a warning to what is happening. Do not believe me if you do not want to.

As for the people that want to understand more, I really recommend for you to dig in the past, a hint is that shifting started on amino. ik it is a bad app but sometimes gems appears. Shifting predecessors (quantum immortality and dimensional jumping) are available on Reddit to be studied (see the archives version of D.J) but they don't fully translate to shifting. (do not use the reality shifting subreddit)

And leave the damned app that is TikTok, you may be laughing for 3 seconds with some random girl talking about draco, but would be way better to be in your dr. why would you let your mind rot?

Shifting is a spiritual practice sourced on scientific facts and theories, both may be fighting a lot but a thing that they have in common is digging stuff, dig and search like never before, the community and it's beliefs are open on the internet, sometimes all you need is to answer a few questions and you will be able to find a good plataform

Your journey will be good no matter what.

Wild had gone out to look for fruit and veggies and hunt for meat, and Warriors, Four, Legend and [Reader] had all gone out to go restock on some supplies in the village.

[Reader] walked through the market, looking around for needed items for their crafts. [Reader] was an expert bomb maker, and needed to buy some more materials to make more. She wanted to create a new type of bomb for Hyrule, per request and was always one to put 100% effort when it came to close friends.

Well, they weren't only friends. They were related by spirit, however that worked. The spirit of the hero, to be more specific. All of them had gone on their own adventures, faced their own demons and hardships. It made [Reader] feel like she wasn't alone, that she wasn't a massive misfit like she originally thought.

She looked and saw the stall she was looking for and approched it, and a middle aged man took a glance at her before going back to speaking to another man who was browsing. [Reader] stopped and started to look at the different kinds of gunpowder.

"Too thick. . ." She mumbled, examining the several options. "too potent. . . I need something fine. . ."

The man behind the counter sighed, looking annoyed and turned. "May I help you?" he asked, sounding very upset with her just existing.

[Reader] looked up. "Uh, do you happen to have any fine powder Gun powder-"

The man interrupted her "Where's your husband? Why did he send you to buy my wares?"

"I'm not married." [Reader] said calmly. "I need some fine powder-"

"I don't believe that." the man interrupted once more. "No way I will believe that some woman like yourself is unmarried. You've got some nerve." he looked her up and down "dressing as some traveler. You're trying to squeeze money out of us hard working men here, who do you think you are?"

"Excuse me?" [Reader] asked, getting fed up by his altitude. "I am a paying customer. My status wether or not I'm married or not is none of your business! Will you answer my question or not?"

The man glared before talking. "Yes, I have fine powdered. How much do you need?"

"Abount a pound or two." She said. The man nodded and went to a barrel, starting to scoop up a random amount of gunpowder into a bag before haphazardly tying the bag and placing it down in front of her. "40 rupees." he grumbled.

"Excuse me?!" [Reader] exclaimed. "That isn't the amount I asked for! And it says on the sign 10 rupees for a pound! you're making me pay 4 times as much for a pound!"

The man sneered, "Stupid woman wouldn't understand. I run a respectable business here! I can't have wh*re like you ruining my good business here." He watched as [Reader] turned red with rage. He grinned, and leaned close "I am willing to make you pay less. . .if you come with me for some alone-"

[Reader] slapped him across the face, turning on her heel and storming off in a rage as the man yelled at her "You b*tch!"

This happened all too often. man would either deny her service or make her pay far too much because of her being a woman. It infuriated her, from the inappropriate comments, to the asking of 'where's your husband? he'd understand better.' it was always heard. It infuriated her. And it's these things that made her jealous of the others.

She was given the name Link, her parents wanted a boy so badly, and neglected her even before her brother was born. Despite her struggles, despite sacrificing everything to save her home, her hyrule, she was still treat less than a horse. She was jealous. The others were born men, born and given immediate respect because of what they were born as. Many occasions she'd stay up late, wishing to wake up a man. But then she'd tell herself that she was just as powerful as the others, now matter what she was. It still hurt, though.

She had to pay extra at a few more stalls, buying arrows and some healing potions with offhand comments about if she was buying for a husband or if she was a traveler and if she was with family.

It wasn't until she was looking at some horse treats (For Epona, that precious horse needed to be spoiled after everything so far) that Legend appeared. "Are you done yet?" He asked in a tone showing he was annoyed. The man at the stall perked up.

"Ah, this must be your husband. Is there something you are looking for?" he asked, making Legend furrow his browser.

"Husband?" he asked "No. I'm not married to her."

"Ah, well then." he said, standing up. "What are you looking for? Something for your horse's saddle?"

[Reader] looked annoyed at this. and Legend noticed. "Hey! She's the one shopping here. Don't ignore her!" he snapped at the man, who looked taken aback.

It took a bit, the man finally tending to [Reader], and after Legend gave him a few words after hearing the man overcharge [Reader], they started off. Legend looked at [Reader] upset.

"What was wrong with him?" he asked "Can't he count? Do basic math?"

"It's nothing new." [Reader] sighed, shrugging. "Honestly, it's nothing worry about." Legend gave her a frown.

"What? Nothing new? have people been denying you as a buyer?" He asked, sounding irritated.

[Reader] nodded, sighing again. "Yea. Its normal though. Happenes to me plenty of times, I'm used to it. It's worse at home-"

"Excuse me?!" he yelled, catching some passersby attention. [Reader] Turned and saw his angry face. "People don't let you buy things?! Why?! You're a hero! You're like us! Why are you treated different?!"

"Well, isn't it obvious?" She asked, stopping. "A lot of people back home don't think a woman should be unwed let alone carry a sword. At home, most can't buy stuff except maybe food without being denied service or being overcharged. Why do you think I hand make bombs." [Reader] huffed, suddenly, Legend looking more p*ssed by the second. "Speaking of which I'm gonna have to wait on my bombs. The gunpowder guy was a real jerk, and I won't pay extra for gunpowder from a guy who asked to-" she paused. "Forget it. I'll just rashion. Let's go-"

[Reader] had tryed to continue walking when Legend grabbed her wrist, looking more livid than she'd ever seen. "What. Did. he. ask. for."

[Reader] hesitantly told him. If looks could kill, there'd be a massacre. "Take me to him."

[Reader] panicked a bit. "it's fine-"

Legend glared "Take me to this scumbag."

After some walking, people actively avoiding Legend, they made it to the gunpowder man. He looked over, and grinned. going to speak only to be grabbed by the coller by Legend, and pulled down, and punched hard in the jaw, making the man fall over, knocking gun powder barrels over. People yelled around them as Legend pulled the man out and started slattacking him, yelling about how much of an arse he was, a bunch of swear and such. [Reader] panicked as she saw red flying.

"LINK STOP!" she cryed, trying to pull him off, hearing two others run to them as he pushed her off and continued his assault. She stumbled back but was caught by Warriors, who looked alarmed at Legend's behavior. Four started to try and pull Legend off, nearly getting socked in his blind rage until Warriors pulled him off the now broken nosed, bleeding man.

"CALM DOWN!" Warriors exclaimed, trying to wrangle to struggling Legend, who was yelling "LET ME AT THAT DISRESPECTFUL PIG!"

"We need to go. Gardening will be here any second now." Four said urgently, snapping [Reader] out of their trance, making her nod. The two ran off, not wanting to get arrested. Time would be mad upset with them . . .

It was silent at camp, the other feeling the tension in the air as they heard Warriors and Legend returning, [Reader] pale seeing the blood on Legend's fists. He stormed over to [Reader]. "Why do you let them talk to you like that?! Why do you people disrespect you?!"

Time stood "What happened. Tell me." he demanded, making the others tense up seeing his face. Legend turned, going to speak when Warriors spoke up. "Legend assaulted a man in town. Broke his nose and jaw."

Time looked at Legend as he blew up once more "That man made inappropriate comments about [Reader]! And I watched a man ignore her after I appeared! He was disrespecting [Reader]! And not to mention how [Reader] said that those misogynistic arseholes constantly refuse her service before she's a woman! I-"

"That is not an excuse to attack someone." Time said, giving that horrific look of disappointment at Legend. making him shut up and pale. Time turned to [Reader] "Is this true?"

Hesitantly, [Reader] nodded. "But I'm used to it by now. I don't understand why Legend got so angry, it's common for me to get those kinds of things said about me."

Time frowned. "Why didn't you tell us?" he asked, sounding upset, making [Reader] looked down at her feet and held her arms.

"It's. . . not something you all need to worry about." She said "You guys don't need to worry about that kind of thing. It's not your concern. . . "

Time suddenly put a hand on [Reader]'s shoulder. "Just because you face these things, doesn't mean you should. Let alone face this alone." he said "You are a hero, just like us. You've wielded the Master Sword just like us. If you need help, you shouldn't hide this stuff from us. We are a team. We are here to help one another."

[Reader] nodded. Time turned to Legend. "You and I are gonna have a chat." he said, making Legend pale again as he followed Time.

As time passed, Wild returned and looked angry at thr news of what happened, deciding to make some extra food for [Reader] to eat to feel better. and Legend sat near her, slient. Wolfe came by too after twilight went on patrol, laying near [Reader], his head on her leg. It felt nice, to have a bunch of friends willing to comfort her, and some even jumping to ger defense. It was nice.

As she went to sleep later on. she smiled, knowing she wasn't alone. That she had a group of friends that would defend her, just like she would defend them. She slept with a smile on her face, not expecting to wake up to a big bag of gunpowder near her sleeping bag, and to hear Time scolding Wild, Wind, and Legend about stealing.

by popular demand (four people), some thoughts about gallery walls. some discourse on the method, if you will. i went with a gallery wall bc i like the look and i had an extremely large blank wall to fill bc this apartment is slightly too big for me. the string lights remind me very much of my dorm rooms but cool lamps have been few and far between down here.

how to get art (and why/caveats)

i honestly don't have a ton of direct collecting advice here other than "have you tried going to a lot of thrift stores". i cheat bc both my parents were architects who collected art, everyone in my family dabbles in fine art, and my sister has her bachelors in art history. so i am awash in paper, constantly. i grew up with a set of flatfiles and a closet full of spare frames. i recognize most people do not grow up like this.

with that caveat out of the way, how do i actually get my art? usually one piece at a time over a very long period of time. there's a postcard on my gallery wall i got in 2009. this is a game you will be playing for the rest of your life as you discover things you like and your tastes evolve.

it is VITAL that you love every piece on your walls. no filler ikea canvases unless you actually like them. the instant you start thinking "oh i need a landscape to look Grownup" you have to strangle that thought in the cradle. there are no rules, especially in art. put whatever the fuck you want up on your walls with no regard for the public's taste.

i feel like "i should buy and put up more art" is something that often falls into a vague Grownup Improvement Goal (like budgeting) bc it is an Grownup Improvement Goal and not bc they actually want to buy and put up more art. fortunately for everyone, you do not have to buy or put up Morally or Socially Improving art that will impress some vague category of grownups, bc we don't fucking live in victorian times.

most importantly you do not need to spend much (or in some cases any) money to put things on your walls. getting the effect you want (fancy washi tape, matching frames) may take some money, but using the printer at work and stealing some scotch tape is free.

how to get art (actual advice this time)

i feel a little silly typing this all out but i really like reading other chewsdayposters' processes, and it is really helpful for me a lot of the time to have someone say: actually there is this complete other way of doing something you have never considered bc u did not grow up with it

i ask you: do you have a stack of sentimental papers somewhere in your home? congrats you have some frameable items. a thing does not need to be Fine Art to be in a frame to go on the wall and make you happy. tape up a birthday card. put a quilt up on your wall. pushpin a label from a jar of pickled herring bc it reminds you of your grandma. frame a beloved tshirt. this is a martha stewart ass statement but things that are not traditional paper art on your walls will add variety and whimsy to your home.

other places for art that are not thrift/estate/yard sales:

i do believe that making your own art, including a $3 paint-by-numbers kit, will fix something in your brain. it's very similar to how i personally have to go stand with my feet in a body of water twice a year or THE SLUDGE smothers my brain

your favorite weird indie bands are almost certainly selling posters on bandcamp even if they're not currently on tour

i like the artists' co-op justseeds for art that deals with "social, environmental, and political engagement" like my beloved "fuck space tourism" poster

start a "good lines" or equivalent "art i like" tag on here and buy prints when u have the money. even if artists here don't have a shop open or don't have the specific piece u want as a print, ask if u can throw them an appropriate amount of money on venmo or something and get it printed locally or online. ive had good luck with vistaprint and they have rolling sales

do you like a piece of art in the public domain, like something from a museum? print it out. put it in a frame. no it's not as nice as a professional print but it's free if you do it at work and now it's on your wall

fuck around on wikimedia commons and the internet archive. i particularly love pulp magazine covers and little illustrative insets for out of date astronomy books

non- and semi-consumable supplies

if u put $25 into supplies u can use for many many other projects (i assume you probably have some of the following list), you can make any frame nice and save approximately a gajillion dollars.

good utility knife and extra blades

hammer

tape measure

level (comes with most command hook packs, you can also use your phone)

stepstool, sturdy chair, or patient tall person

assorted nails (you can buy a little tackle box with assorted nails from most big box stores)

little squeezy tube of DryDex spackle ($5) and putty knife or honestly old credit card to fill in nail holes when you move out

OR command strips and hooks

matboard that is white on one side and black on the other (~$8 at big box craft stores). you can use this to cut your own mats and/or replace a kind of weird back on an otherwise good frame

most printer paper these days is acid free. steal some from your workplace.

assorted small brushes

little thing of acrylic paint in whatever color you want your frames to be (~$1.50 ea). you can also spray paint your frames for a different finish but i don't have the space or patience in this apartment

sandpaper or sacrificial emery board

i would further recommend a little set of letter size desktop drawers/mini flatfiles like this to keep all the small stuff you want to frame in one place. i have sentimental art i don't want to frame in one drawer and things i do want to frame in the other. this has been very good for my brain bc it's all safely and flatly contained out of sight, and it's easy to flick through a stack of things i already love when i need one more small thing or one warmer thing to fill a gap

frames

the good news for us is that frames and art are a fucking bitch to move and people frequently give them away. your local discount and thrift stores are going to be fucking awash in small frames 8.5"x11" and under for under $3 each. when you are thrifting or estate saling or yard saling or generally gallivanting about on a weekend, pay little attention to any art actually in a frame. is the frame in okay shape? can you repaint it without too much trouble? will it clean up all right? does it have the glass? can you insert the glass from a different frame into the one you actually want without any thrift store employees noticing?

for weird sizes above 8.5x11 and outside poster size that cannot be easily found at thrift stores, the big box craft stores here in america have roughly quarterly frame sales and frequent coupons. do NOT get your shit professionally framed at michaels bc they upcharge by about 3x compared to other local framers (both on the east coast and here in tx).

i went through two periods of seriously buying frames (last year of high school and the year i moved into the original lair, when/where i thought i was going to stay for a few years) and ive swapped in out and between those dozen or so total. once you have built up a little stock of frames that fit the general sizes of art you tend to collect, ur pretty good for a while. the only new "frame" i bought for my gallery wall was a little floating shelf.

mats

the absolute biggest fucking thing u can do to make your art look nicer is mat that bitch, which gives it room to breathe. if your art does not have a built in border or a lot of white space (see 9, 12, and 13 in the gallery wall below, as well as 8 which has a ton of negative space with the car door), you need a frame bigger than your art. you can google the suggested proportions yourself or decide with your heart.

i am a big fan of a very slapdash floating mat, which means cutting a piece of printer paper to size or flipping around the paper that tells you what size the frame is and slapping your art right on top of that, sometimes with a lick of gluestick to keep it in place. generally a floating mat means a sort of 3D matting technique but we don't have time for that. do not do this printer paper technique long-term with a particularly beloved or expensive piece of art.

u can also buy pre-cut mats at Michaels or Joann’s for not too too many dollars, or cut your own with the acid-free matboard ($10 for a poster board sized piece) and a new utility knife blade and a steady hand. or, if you're lucky, it comes with the frame.

gallery wall specific advice

there aren't any rules. actual galleries and museums tend to put the center of a piece or group of pieces at 57" from the floor. you may want to fuck around with that depending on your own height, the space you have, and the pieces you own.

a gallery wall does not need to be 24 pieces like this one. it can be any number.

this is the first one i have done mostly by myself and it is the most color-restricted one i have ever put up. it is also the one with the most successful repeating motif (circles). usually i grab the art i want most to go together and send pics to my art historian sister who will then arrange it for me and say shit like “do you have another small blue thing for the top left” or “do you have two pieces that are warmer and larger” or "different frame for the middle left"

look at a lot of other gallery walls. personally i like the ones that have non-framed and non-square things in them. ideally mine would have photographs and taxidermy in it for maximum weirdness. but u cannot go wrong with a grid, or all horizontal pieces, or all vertical pieces. for a full wall puzzle piece like this, u do not generally want an american southwest four corners meeting situation. stagger it. lay everything out on the floor and move it around eighteen times (this is the worst part). the gallery wall as a whole does not have to be perfectly aligned to the ceiling or the back of your couch or what have you. it can be sort of an organic blob shape along the top and bottom edges.

my wall

this soothing blue and green wall with wood tone pops has pieces from almost half my life. it skews later in college/recent acquisitions, as i sharpened my taste for limited-number prints and had a car to go to thrift stores with, but that’s just how this specific wall came together

the list below should tell you what each piece is, how much i paid for it (and the cost of the frame if applicable), and when i got it. this wall has most of the Nice Art in my collection that is signed/numbered/in some way slightly fancier bc it is the wall i stare at when on my couch.

embroidered Scorpio constellation hoop, birthday gift from my sister (free, came with hoop, i used some makerspace felt and batting to properly back and finish it much later so free with my tuition), nov 2016

numbered and signed print of an italianate cityscape, $5 and came with the frame and mat from an estate sale, i put a new back on it with scrap matboard so the back of the print wasn't just naked, fall 2021

signed print of a new england landscape, came with the frame and the mat but is stained right over the signature :( $2.50 from salvation army, one of the last things i bought in spring 2023 before i moved

signed original multimedia on board collage by my sister from her like second ever gallery show, $69 in winter 2022 for the art, the frame was from a free pile i gave a new acid free back with scrap matboard. that was such a good free pile i got a huge pile of frames from that

magazine page (idk which one either) i saved in high school (i graduated in 2013) or very early college, frame was from a free pile by the side of the road in summer 2021 and repainted with some white acrylic paint. it is float matted with printer paper. maybe a dollar for the paint? i definitely did not buy the magazine

this is an out of print poster by one of my favorite living artists (Josh McPhee) so i emailed him and asked if i could get it printed myself if i threw him $25 and he said yes. i think it cost $22 to get it printed professionally, the frame is basics by studio decor ($20 for a 2-pack) (i spent so much money and time on this one bc i wanted a very specific look for a very specific space in my kitchen in the old apartment), feb 22

No. I barely do gender at all, dislike hard labels, and I'm not a good authority on what's neurodivergent or not. No comment. Don't ask me unless it's about me specifically and not society at large.

#Not an art

People sometimes ask or wonder... "Hey Potatoman, why don't you get therapy and work this stuff out?"

Well see, here's the thing. I have tried. I have tried and tried. I have paid for therapy, I have used free community clinics, employee assistance programs, I have gotten therapy in psych wards, I have had court ordered therapy, I have done group therapy, CBT therapy, trauma based therapy, residential therapy, inmate therapy....I I have been very, very therapized. Add to that somewhere around 10 turns at addiction and alcohol treatments, some up to 6 month stays. I once tried to figure out how long I have lived in rehabs and I just stopped when I added up to a certainty of two years and I kept remembering other tries and I felt embarrassed. I am now inadmissible to many rehabs because my previous experiences. They know there is nothing they can teach me that I don't know. That is not me exclaiming this, this is what they told me.

Fortunately I no longer abuse drugs and alcohol. But that cessation was not a conscious choice or commitment to "the program" or some therapeutic choice. I just no longer felt like doing it and no longer could do it.

That, I learned, is called "spontaneous cessation". It's a term studies and professional addictions folk call people who stop on their own with no external influence or supports or therapeutic interventions.

And if you dig into a bit of the literature and information available on rehabs, 12 step programs, church based sobriety groups, sobriety coaches and expensive new age and new tech addiction cessation concepts...Spontaneous cessation actually beats them all for long term sobriety. Probably combined. Which has led me to believe, nobody gets sober till they're done. And no amount of cajoling, and guilting and appeasing and interventions can bring that around, unless it coincides with the user being done. And sadly many, many people never reach done.

My father killed himself because he had a clarity that he would never be done. He had a knowledge that he will always want more and always need more. And he had the presence of mind to escape.

Anyway, maybe I got sidetracked there.

Therapy for me seems impossible. I have never walked out of a therapeutic session or program and thought 'I feel better' or even more important 'I think I have found the solution' or 'I have resolved something I really needed to'.

I feel certain there is no therapy that can fix things for me. And if there is it would be expensive and long term. And I just don't have the patience or trust or especially money.

Therapeutic success in our society has become the realm of the privileged and wealthy.

That is an unacknowledged fact most people who tell anyone they hear or see on social media who is struggling "Just go talk to someone", do not seem to grasp. And that is because "just going to talk to someone" has either never really been necessary for them or if they needed it, they had resources and supports most people do not. So I will spend my days broken and unrepaired. And trying to make do with my debilities. Kind of suffering and kind of just trying to fall slowly. With brief reprieves when i hit branches on the way down. Like this...

And the best I can hope for is to make peace with it before my heart finally gives out. Or not make peace and I take myself out. There is little else available as options.

Unless there is some unforeseen and drastic change in the way therapy and mental health are cared for. That is it.

The good part is I have stayed alive this long. And I got a chance to do some living. Some good living and I got to see things lots of folks never get to and I have loved and been loved. And I got to be a father and have a beautiful child who I was very fortunate was never too difficult or too frightening or sick. And cats. I have had some great cats. Cats have been some of my favourite parts of this thing.

But being better, it's not in the cards. And I get that for other people hearing someone say that can be discouraging and even distasteful..."Ewww you mean you are like this forever? Gah, I am so not there for it. This is exhausting to watch!" It is my life though, I was born a certain way, sensitive and acutely aware and very connected to the world, to parents who were brutish and violent and completely ill-prepared to nurture a child like me (ironically my brother was perfect for them because he feels nothing) and it started a rift inside me that time and people only widened more and more. And I accept that.

My friend told me this morning that I am not a nihilist, I am a fatalist. So this is fatalism with a bit of pragmatism. So we can call this the tale of the fatalist.

Or He Who Cannot Be Mend.

He'd probably be the one that preaches constantly about the recipe. "YoU cAnT gUeSs! UsE tHe MeAsUrInG cUpS." A huge gremlin about following the recipe precisely. He helps you but you might have to kick him out so he'll shut up about how you didn't put enough salt into the batter.

He's kinda a 7/10. Helpful if you're precise and he loves to help you out with making food, but sucks if you know your stuff and go off taste. because you don't need no damn measuring cups.

Ughhhh such a pain. Kick him out. He like- he'll offer help but will literally just make everything ten times messier and worse on you if you accept his offer. Like he sucks in the kitchen with a passion. He always compliments your cooking though. Compliments to the chef.

Will ask if you can research how to make homemade beer just for the hell of it. He's actually not as big of an alcoholic as he's told to be, but he does wonder if he could create some homemade beer because honestly? Free and he won't have to use a fake ID.

Other than that he's pretty chill about it. He thinks it's cool you can cook. Probably asks you to make him and his little sister dinner sometimes whenever his mom and stepdad are out. I headcannon him as someone that burns absolutely everything. Somehow almost burned the house down by trying to make warm milk for his sister when she was much younger. He's probably too scared to offer his help for the sake of not wanting to mess up any of your cooking, but he usually lingers around while you cook and watches what you do.

Also is not afraid to pick you up and distract you from your food though if he's excited about something.

Dallas Winston

Pain in the ass 2.0 He's worse than Randle.

"Doll, why cook when I live above a bar?" He definitely doesn't have a great diet. Mfer lives at DQ whenever he's not at Buck's or the Curtis house. His diet consists of Dairy Queen, random ass bar food that Buck finds to give people, sometimes meals at the Dingo if he's not too busy flirting or causing trouble, and stolen ice cream from kids off the street.

"You're just wasting money on all those ingredients. We have plenty of good food all around us." Probably doesn't even own a fridge. Probably the type that has a mini fridge but it's not even plugged in and he just puts sodas or alcohol in there and constantly complains it's broken even though he doesn't think once to look at the plug.

Lol anyways, after you feed him a few good healthy, non leeched, meals, he'll probably shut up more. Still doesn't quite understand, but he gets it a bit more once he tastes the stuff.

Johnny Cade

Honestly probably the only one that actually can cook. He doesn't spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but after watching a few times he's somehow a natural? Like the best one out them all to help you cook because he may even be a better cook than you without trying (no offense.)

He doesn't spend a lot of time at home and or good reason, so it's safe to say he probably doesn't get decent meals a lot unless it's from the Curtis house, but I think that's why he's so good with it? Like- he's so grateful for homemade food because it's rare that he gets it that he just subconsciously is super good at making it. Does that even make sense?

Anyways, like I said the BEST to help with cooking and baking. Even draws cute little hearts and stars with icing when you guys make cake <3

Tim Shepard

Similar to Darry but less open about it. It helps him, it really does, especially with Curly who eats like a horse, but he won't be as sweet or verbally thankful about it. He'll offer to help if he has time, and would hit the backside of Curly's head if he ever made a negative comment about the food, but that's pretty rare so 🤷

Will ask you however, if you can wear nothing but an apron. You'll have to smack him for such a bad flirt.

He'd actually be super soft though if you made him breakfast in bed one day. Like, he'd gently tell you he doesn't deserve you and has you sit so he can share the food.

Curly Shepard

Like I said previously, he eats like a horse. I don't care how lean and scrawny he seems, he can outeat a neighborhood. But it's okay, he runs it off lol

"Geez guys, slower than usual today because my doll made this bomb ass pasta tonight, ya dig? Almost ate the whole goddamn thing."

Goes on this mini rant about how he'll miss your cooking at the reformatory.

hey! i have context for you, re: the thing that both tonia and the person on bluesky would have have been responding to. it's towards the end of anonymousad's hellishly long and weird shelterwood takedown and it, uh, doesn't exactly make them look any better. if you want to see if you can """read and understand""" (lmao, you're right, that sucks so bad) the true meaning of their words, here they are, in full context so as to avoid accusations of cherrypicking! "as an example, let's look at the Afflicted Season 2 crowdfunding campaign that just ended in failure.

this was a FIXED GOAL campaign. they were asking for $23,500 USD and they only made it to $13,283, just over 50% of the way there. so they got none of it. it was all or nothing and the result this time was nothing.

and that really sucks for a lot of reasons.

I had some criticisms about that campaign that I kept to myself at the time, in part because diverse voices in audio drama is really important. Afflicted provided a lot of opportunities for marginalized creators to get established and share their unique voices. so often the campaigns that are getting met are the ones that continue to prop up the same types of voices and experiences as we've all heard before.

I am much more interested in the unique horror that a show like Afflicted is bringing to the table as a production driven by a Black woman than I am with hearing from the same types of voices we are used to. we have a lot of similar people making stuff in the community, and frankly a lot of our "diversity" is mostly driven by being white and queer. these voices are important too and there's a lot that is good, but that is the majority in this space. that's why we need to make sure we are getting opportunities to the people who don't have the privilege or connections.

this is a personal opinion, not one everyone will agree with. but we are better as a community when we do extra work to make sure that more varied diversity is highlighted and supported.

Afflicted planted their foot saying "this much or nothing" and took the gamble that most of these high number campaigns are unwilling to do. a gamble that they succeeded in last year to fund the first season.

the difference is partly that the economy looked really different last year. disposable income, rent prices, general cost of living. it wasn't great, but it was better than it is now and that MATTERS. we all know how fucking bad it is right now, especially in the US, so to be asking these massive amounts of money is tone deaf. in this case, Afflicted was even asking for MORE than they raised for season 1. you could argue some of that is because they already managed to prove themselves as creators who were good for the money and deserved that kind of chance.

but the fact of the matter is that people just don't have that kind of cash to give over and over.

which leads into my main point.

every time I see a campaign with this high of a goal I think one thing:

"this is hurting the community."

now, that may not sound reasonable to some of you, especially if you are one of the people who believes that numbers this high are justifiable.

when we talk about supporting each other from a audio drama creator standpoint, it is done so freely and with an understanding that new listeners isn't really a thing we're going to run out of. if I recommend 10 podcasts I like, that doesn't hurt MY show. it just helps the community by sharing things we generally enjoy and care about it. this is how you end up with the networks of support that we've seen in newer places like the Audio Drama Lab.

unfortunately, money is not the same.

the amount of money that each of us has to give to support the things we like is limited based on our individual situations. anyone recommending a specific crowdfunding campaign to give money to DOES have an impact on the amount of money left in the pool for others.

so when something like Shelterwood or Arden or Afflicted or Among the Stacks or The Magnus fucking Protocol asks for these amounts, this is ACTIVELY impacting whether other campaigns will succeed."

I actually don't mind accusations of cherry picking, it's fine either way but thank you for your concern. It's very sweet.

The main reason I'm about to do what I'm about to do is because I've actually had microaggressions on the brain for plot reasons and this is positively wonderful practice to put these things into words.

Alright, so OPs argument here is that there's a set amount of money in the AD pool from which we can draw from, and that taking bigger draws for a production leaves too little for the rest of the AD community.

I'm not going to argue whether this is true or false right now (but I am going to point out...what this echoes later and why I do not like the argument) and instead am going to continue as if this statement is fact.

My question is why bring up the race and gender of Afflicted's creator? The entire diversity statement here is completely unnecessary. If the argument is that big budget audio dramas are taking too much money, and that is detrimental to ADs economic ecosystem then it does not matter if Afflicted's show runner was an alien from Venus. OPs decision to bring up the race and gender of the showrunner and then point out that the actions from this particular production is harming the AD community was a contextual...decision.

And as a result the following is now colored by the acknowledgment of the creator's race and gender so things like hinting at the aggressiveness of the campaign

"Afflicted planted their foot saying 'this much or nothing'"

and that she's taking too much for the ecosystem to survive

"every time I see a campaign with this high of a goal I think one thing: 'this is hurting the community'"

...is just a bad look. Because these comments simply don't exist in a vacuum.

I also have to wonder why the chose Afflicted in the first place. This could have been avoided if they had brought in the numbers of the Magnus Archives Protocol (whose numbers are still available ~700,000 pounds) or Arden (a successful campaign that aimed for 26,000 but made a tidy $12,065 and will use that money to continue production) or Shelterwood (which aimed for $26,000, made ~$6,000 and will also be going into production). Because...why use a "failed campaign" to highlight the money this one production is taking and "harming the community" with, when they, in reality, took nothing at all?

Why choose Afflicted? Was it timing? Was it because they were at hand? Was it because it gave OP a chance to talk about how accepting they were to different types of diversity?

Let's zoom out for a moment. We've heard this argument before the "there's not enough to go around and some people are taking too much and leaving too little for everyone else"...in things like affirmative action, and immigration. It's a very faint, "if you blink you might miss it" replacement theory argument.

And it begins to fall apart when they bring up this argument

I'd claim there's a lot here that I didn't touch upon such as the acknowledgment that the AD pool is majority white and that the one production in this list that is asking for the least amount cash at highest stakes that contains the highest concentration of diverse voices is somehow taking money from the acknowledged "majority" is a bit of a hot mess, but I digress.

Busy is the daily life of the street, change is the calendar day by day, unchanged is the routine of life. Unbeknownst to them, the unknown has long since begun to encroach, cognizable only to children and youth.

Late at night, the original playful streets are replaced by a dark silence. The blonde hangs a sign in front of the store saying "Closed" and then turns around and enters the store, locking the door behind him.

It's May, and although it's not officially summer, the cicadas are squeaking and chirping outside the window with no small amount of penetration. As we approach the days when students are on summer break, everyone is hoping to get a more satisfactory GPA to go back to their parents before the end of the semester.

"Mark! I'm out of carbon pens! When are you going to go to the stationery store to buy some stationery back?" The teenager named Cesar crossed his legs and spun his pen in his chair, a half-written macroeconomics topic spread out on his desk. "Got it, will go later ...... And when are you going to go to the stationery store by yourself? I borrow mine every time." Mark agreed to the other's request with an expressionless face, helplessly turning back to ask the other two what they thought.

"Give a scissors! Otherwise I'm going to be blown out by my design teacher if I don't have scissors to use in design class again."

"Correction tape please."

"Okay."

"Mark you are my big daddy! Good job!"

"Okay, okay, Jonah don't look at me with such an exaggerated expression, can you learn from Adam, look how reserved he is."

"He's fine the way he is now, he won't be happy by the time the Quiz grades come out for the stats class anyway."

This was Mark's last thought before he left the classroom door

"Welcome, what can I get you?" The blonde owner asked Mark, who had just stepped into the stationery, with a smile on his face as he wore a pair of glasses.The stationery store was surprisingly quiet, and although it had actually been open on the street for a while, it still looked as if it had just popped up out of the blue, with that new store renovation kind of paint and formaldehyde smell hitting the air, interspersed with the papier-mâché and metallic smells of the stationery. This store didn't smell very good, that was Mark's first thought when he entered the store. If it wasn't for the fact that the owner of the previous stationery store had passed away for some reason, he wouldn't have come here to buy stationery.

"A carbon pen, an eraser, a refillable correction tape and a pair of safety blunt tip scissors, please."

"Okay oh~ Please wait."

The moment he heard the shopkeeper speak, Mark felt an inexplicable vicious chill, like the physical sensation of falling into an ice cave, and he involuntarily shivered a little, trying to alleviate his mental discomfort and resolved to never come back to this store to buy stationery next time.

"Sorry about that, the store owner himself is rather afraid of the heat, the air conditioning is on low haha, excuse me."

Mark didn't even bother to think about why an ordinary carbon pen was actually selling for 30 dollars before he hurriedly left the place that made him uncomfortable.

"Take care of yourself~ I, for one, am looking forward to you guys~"

Whew... running all the way back to the school Mark breathed a long sigh of relief, silently celebrating the end of his ordeal while delivering the items his friend had asked for. Until this time, Mark didn't realize that he seemed to have been swindled out of a lot of money, but he didn't want to go back to that hellhole and argue with that squint, and after being forced to accept the reality, he cursed as thin as a mosquito's voice:

"F**k."

At the end of the day's program, Mark drove the other three back to the shared B&B with him.

"Mark, I understand the reasoning, but why is this carbon pen of yours so expensive? It can't be something expensive, no fraud, right, or should I return it? It's so expensive." Cesar poured over the 30-knife carbon pen, taking it apart and putting it back together again and again. "Come on Cesar, don't take it apart, if you do, the parts will fall out of the car and you won't even be able to find them." "Like the Ouija board charger you put in the car earlier." "Jonah shut up I finally found it okay?" "Okay, okay, sir, don't be mad, it's just a matter of finding it for 2 hours haha." "...."

Back home, Jonah jumped straight up and pounced on the couch, reached for the gamepad and chips on the coffee table and started a new round of gaming.Mark put the oversized eraser and super expensive carbon pen on the coffee table next to Jonah, then dropped his book bag next to the seal doll, took out his homework and wrong questions and started to think about how to write them.Adam went upstairs to get his correction tape and went to work on his newly swiped paranormal narration. circling the whiteboard.Cesar washed his hands and turned to the kitchen, grabbing cocoa powder and making each of them a cup of hot cocoa.

"Jonah where did you put the scissors?" "Over there" Jonah pointed in the direction of the book bag, "Oh well thanks!" After dropping a couple of marshmallows into his hot cocoa he took the scissors and cut open the unopened package of steak meat. "Oh yo, these scissors are so sharp! No wonder it's so expensive." Shocked, Cesar tried cutting the ribs with the scissors and it was an easy fix as well.

"Hey Jonah, why don't you give me the scissors to use for cutting vegetables, it's really too good!"

"Oh... Huh? Don't you have a special shears in your kitchen, you have to catch me gripping mine, haven't you gripped Mark's stationery enough?"

"It's not like we're going to use it during that time at school anyway."

"OK, remember to put it in my pencil box after use, don't throw it in the kitchen."

"Oh, okay."

After saying that Cesar closed the refrigerator door and forgot the scissors in the refrigerator.

Darkness. Total darkness. I can't see anything. It's like a mist over my eyes.

Where is this place? Wait, when did I get here? Does this place even exist?

Water. There seems to be water on the ground, I can feel wading through it, this water seems to be getting deeper?

Why was I just thinking about moving forward? Was this a dream?

"What," Adam turned his head and the vertical telson on the serpentine creature's face stared straight at Adam, the distance between them only a finger's width apart.

Venomous fangs pierced the fragile neck, and as the sharp object penetrated deeper, Adam's consciousness was lost in the snake's entanglement of signals.

Adam jerked his head up, looked around and then pressed his throbbing temples.

"Uh uh... I slept in the classroom? Why did these people let me sleep over here after school without telling me? I'm really sorry."

"Boom!"

A blast of thunder illuminated the classroom in the darkness, only to see the floor-to-ceiling window with scarlet spray writing:

"ADAM IKU ARE HERE."

Lightning illuminated the dark red paint as if it were as bright red as fresh blood, the sky glowed an eerie, highly saturated indigo, and the inside of the classroom was filled with fog. For just a moment, hundreds of eyes just like the snake's surfaced in the air, large and small, staring directly at Adam, who paused for a moment, stumbled, turned, and ran into the ghastly white-lit corridor, the eyes behind him coming at him like a flood.

"Haaaaahhhh..."

I don't know how long he had been running, but when he reached the bathroom, Adam gasped for breath, unlocked the door sharply and sat down on the floor. After briefly regaining his energy, he got up and saw his "self" in the mirror and said in his own voice:

"I can't get away."

Then the "self" in the mirror twisted and changed into the snake that crawled out of the mirror and strangled Adam's carotid artery...

"Adam, why do I get the feeling you didn't sleep well?"

"Shut up."

Adam, who had given Jonah a slap, confirmed the touch, judging that it should have been a breath of air upon returning to reality.

"Let's go, we're going to be late, you know the attendance system for studying is kinda strict."

Jonah, while searching for an apple inside the fridge incidentally found the scissors that Cesar had forgotten and after spitting out a comment, he put away the scissors and tossed the apple to Adam.

"Say Jonah."

"What?"

"Did you see a snake at your feet with four arms full of eyes?"

"Are you out of your mind? Don't scare me! I know you like to study paranormal events, right!"

"Right---" Adam trailed off in a long lazy voice, "I'm scaring you, let's go, drive properly today, no bobbing your head while listening to music. " Adam tapped Jonah on the shoulder and walked behind him, Jonah froze for a moment as he saw Adam kick the air around him, not thinking too much he turned and followed Adam to the garage to get the car started.

"Hey Adam. are you sure you're okay?"

"Really."

"Really?"

"Really!!! How many times do I have to say it Jonah?!"

"Okay, okay, know you're okay..." Jonah scowled and continued to focus on driving, but Adam's kicking at the air earlier still lingered in the back of his mind. In the spirit of his intuition, which was always spot on, Jonah decided to keep his mouth shut, but still remained skeptical of Adam's behavior.

Adam walked into the classroom as usual, but due to the effects of that dream from last night, he had been in a state of disorientation all morning. He couldn't listen to the lesson and all he could think about was the sinister snake whispering to him.

"I can't get away."

"You can't get away."

"Shut up！！！！！！"

"Adam, what's wrong with you?"

"Nothing... Nothing, Professor, I'm going out."

After saying that Adam pushed away his desk and got up and left the classroom, ignoring the professor's words about the location of the counseling room, and came to the stairway holding his forehead with one hand and bracing himself against the cold wall with the other. With his temples still hurting, Adam felt like he was about to lose his footing, and the scene in front of him began to flicker with black halo shadows. Shaking his heavy head, he pressed his forehead against the wall, hoping that the cold wall would ease his pain.

In a flash, the shadow of the snake wandered past and Adam began to wonder if he was still in reality.

"Adam!"

"What?" The sharp pain was suddenly gone, and Adam obediently turned his head to look at the owner of the voice.

"What are you doing here?" Cesar asked to Adam who was leaning against the orange wall.

"Came out to use the restroom, why."

"Nothing, just in time for class to end, join us in the cafeteria?"

After a moment of thought, Adam felt that his head didn't hurt that much for the moment, so he agreed to Cesar's invitation.

Then he stepped short of the stairs.

Cesar was quick to tug on Adam's hood and pull him back.Adam was slightly shocked, but quickly returned to his usual aloof self. After checking left and right to see that there was no Jonah nearby, he tested the floor to see if it was solid.

"I heard from Jonah that you're in bad shape today."

Cesar looked at the strange behavior of the person in front of him and asked Adam with some suspicion, in order to prevent Adam from falling again, his hand didn't even leave Adam's shoulder, Adam was a bit impatient and knocked off Cesar's hand on his shoulder, emphasizing once again that he was fine and then descended the stairs without looking back, Cesar said jokingly:

"It couldn't be the ghost of the literature Mark bought yesterday that scared you into insanity, could it?"

"I didn't, and aren't you going to dinner, what are you standing around for."

Mark laughed at Cesar's theory of the stationery murders, he was so imaginative, stationery could turn into a person, so why not expect your own hand puppet to move, and Cesar just said in a playful tone that he was just making it up, and then turned into a serious look:

"I'm worried about Adam, he's really not in good shape."

"Take him to the hospital."

"He doesn't look like he wants to go to the hospital that way." Jonah came in clutching his books and textbooks and elaborated on Adam's strange behavior this morning. "Or maybe he just didn't sleep well." Cesar opened his book and flipped through a few random pages then closed it again.

Although Mark was in a state of complete disbelief about Cesar's theory, he did see his big rubber seemingly move a few centimeters with no one around.

Mark had a feeling that his beliefs might have taken a turn for the worse.

ranking nightmare time episodes

i recently finished all the nmt episodes and now that i have no more new hatchetfield content to consume i need to dish out feelings and opinions and i like ranking things i like. this is based on vibes mostly. and my attachment to these characters. i love all of these episodes and the entire cast and nick & matt lang for giving me so much lore to chew on. here is the brutal order of ranking my children

13. daddy

somebody had to be last......first of all i just wanna say jaime lyn beatty is a literal god for performing the double role of sherman and sheila young here, she IS versatility in human form. however young at heart just isn't one of my favourite songs and sherman & frank really aren't as compelling characters to me as some other ones in the hatchetverse and i feel like it doesn't offer that much more lore to me.

i do find that there is a lot to be said about the way sheila holds frank & toy zone hostage with her money and it's yet another case of characters using their money for power and glory in hatchetfield and how those characters eventually become victims of the lords in black and characters that abuse their power. i still had so much to say about this even though it's last on this list and that also speaks to how GOOD this series is okay

12. perky's buds

this one is just absurd????? i truly think perky's buds, jane's a car and hey melissa are the holy trinity of batshit nmt episodes.

this is essentially the most we ever learn about the hatchetmen and their descendants (the metzgers) which makes me a little sad, that lore i am still a bit lost on and honestly the amount of lore (and this being grace chasity's first appearance in canon) is mostly the only reason i prefer this one over daddy. also the fact that joey richter plays a monotone talking bird + emma finally gets her pot farm (even if it all burns down in the end</3). this one is just a little silly to me and the song isn't my favourite either, it's a taste of characters (like the metzgers and ziggs) and lore about the history of hatchetfield and i just wish we knew more

11. forever and always

this is my official apology to paulkins nation for having this ep so low lmao sorry guys

if i'm being honest my favourite part about this episode is how it weaves together with time bastard. idk if i'm allowed to say this out loud because i fear i'll get crucified by starkid / hatchetverse people but honestly i'm not *that* invested in paulkins as a ship.......i love that in this iteration they are just so fucked up and weird, i remember in the hotel scene thinking there is NO way paul wouldn't kill emdroid here. she is an EVIL ANDROID!!!! and then the reveal that he's actually paul 23 made so much sense. anyway i like this one and i REALLY like the song!! it's so fun having such a heartfelt sounding song at the top of the episode and then it actually being so fucked up by the end.

10. hey, melissa!

tbh i wanted this one to be higher because it was SO absurd in a way perky's buds could never even fucking dream of, i truly want to know what possessed nick & matt lang to think that the side character who has maybe four lines in tgwdlm likes dehumanizing men and turning them into her pets???

all this being said i think hey melissa gets a bit of a bad rep in the fandom. i actually think it's a very interesting episode, i will never ever stop thinking about WHY paul makes the decision at the end as he does? i think there is so much to dissect there and in general about paul as a character in this episode. we really don't learn a lot about paul in tgwdlm and in contrast, in the timeline of hey melissa we hear an entire story from his childhood that clearly impacted him a lot? and it's something he thinks about to this day!

i also really wonder the question of if he hadn't told that story, would melissa still have him held captive?? obviously melissa is not a very reliable character in the early part of the story, but paul's memory clearly affects her a lot? does she actually lose faith in him in that moment? and that's why she decides to keep him as her dog (of course he doesn't end up being one lmao) ? i just think there's a lot to be said about this episode! still, i am def forever haunted by this and can't never hear it the same when humans say bark or meow. also what do you MEAN you'd have to NEUTER him to let him OUTSIDE

9. the hatchetfield ape-man

this one has such a special place in my heart for whatever reason<33 full disclosure angela as lucy stockworth is also maybe 80% of why this is higher than the others so far, it's just so fun seeing her play a character who seemingly is just so innocent and sweet and has such a big heart but then who's also very aware of what she's doing and schemes a bit herself. i can't believe this is the only iteration of lucy stockworth what is she doing in the other timelines. i want to know.

also idk why but the reveal that ted was just playing konk fucked me UP!!! like that was insane. also as the first episode that has the cast and nick & matt still figuring everything out it's just very sweet and heartwarming which you cant say about a lot of hatchetfield content<33 honestly no real explanations for this one i just love angela giarratana and also jamie lyn beatty for singing HERE'S A LITTLE STORY BOUT THE HATCHETFIELD APE-MAN

8. watcher world

the scenes with the sniggles???? genuinely horrifying. the idea in itself that someone is always watching is so creepy, i think blinky is maybe actually the most terrifying lord in black. at least he manages to have the most terrifying nmt episode. the fact that he somehow makes a father and daughter almost kill each other and wants to watch for his own enjoyment like........this one actually haunts me sm!!!! wtf is that scene with alice and the blinky mascot!!!!!!

it's also one of the only hatchetfield stories with a genuinely happy ending with basically no catch. and after bill and alice's tragic fate in tgwdlm i'm so glad they also get a good ending<33 it's also just so lovely to see them actually bond in this story and we learn a lot about alice !

this one also has so many songs and i am of the opinion that snoozle town is genuinely heartbreaking and the way angela can just do that while singing the most insane shit like "and we'll have two snoozles that can snozzle / our own bayou where the boogle boggles flow with goo" is beautiful

7. jane's a car

GOT MY FOOT ON THE GAS ok im SORRY im sorry its just. funny

tbh i am a little sad this gets reduced to the car sex episode, i think it does have a lot to say about navigating grief when you feel like you've finally been able to move on and live life again and suddenly the person you lost is back in your life. and they're also a car.

not to mention the ending???? is fucking terrifying????? poor becky quite literally dies and the "mommy's home" paired with the way the script narrates the moment as "becky sits down and jane smiles". like that's. cunt

anyway just to conclude i really wish more people understood the more compelling parts of this episode and not just tom fucks a car!!!! dont overstimulate the cupholders!!!!!

6. honey queen

i was GAGGED seeing the editing quality step up from nmt 1. this is truly the cuntiest nmt episode because we pit two beautiful queens each other and BOTH just fucking perish lmao (that editing step up also contributed so much to the final scene being so terrifying. it's an incredible introduction to nibbly and the scene being followed by the nibbly ditty is just SO gooooooooooooooood)

something i did already mention when talking about daddy is the continued sort of "motif" that rich people either still always lose to the lords in black or (something that i didn't bring up last time) they themselves are corrupt and have essentially sold their souls to the lords in black. like gerald & linda lie, cheat, steal and kill their way to win this pageant and yet. they still both die.

also also!!!!! i love that we learn how linda ended up so incredibly cold and uncaring. like it's not just from being rich as fuck, it's also trauma from being mocked, ridiculed and ignored throughout your entire childhood. i think roman murray might genuinely be the most evil character in hatchetfield and i loooove how jon matteson plays him. king shit

i also just love. gerald and linda. they are so fucked up and so perfect for each other. the way gerald helps her so much to sabotage the pageant and is her BIGGEST cheerleader, knows that deep down linda does not like her father and is afraid of him and literally gets himself killed essentially in support of her.............i love them.

5. time bastard

i'm gonna be honest i wasn't ted's biggest fan after tgwdlm so i didn't reaaaally understand the love i saw for him in the fandom, but after time bastard i really got it. time bastard actually fleshes out ted as a character and even though by the end he kind of is still a dumbass we do still learn a lot about him!! tinky and his little box are both objectively terrifying and being stuck in his box honestly sounds like a worse fate than hell. i feel bad for ted ngl

the reveal that homeless guy is ted spankoffski is also so insane. like the fact that these two exist in the same timeline a lot of the time is so interesting and also brings up the question of did the homeless guy ever try to go into ccrp and try to take his job back??? or did he just resign to his fate. we dont know. speaking of ccrp also learning more lore about what a fucked company it actually is super interesting, especially knowing they too tried to harness tinky's power.

my one and only gripe with time bastard is that it gets a little too complicated for me at some points but that's more a me problem, it just feels slightly hard to wrap my head around it while also connecting it to the events of forever and always. i do love complicated lore but this one fucks w my head sometimes

4. abstinence camp

as a grace chasity girl it is illegal for me to have this episode any lower than in the top 5. these top 4 episodes truly expose my favourite hatchetfield characters so bad lmao

god abstinence camp is SO funny!! the writing here is hilarious, just grace's first appearance is so silly and angela does such a stellar job. i love her in this role so much. along w her i'm so glad this story introduced us to boy jerry and girl jeri who i am begging to see again in another timeline like i need to see their backstory!! how did they find each other the first time and how did they end up abandoning their faith to have a child!!!! jon matteson and kim whalen are so good in these roles

we also cant talk about abstinence camp without mentioning that virginity rocks is objectively the BEST nmt song. jon and kim are serving absolute vocals it is such a banger and the fact that they paired it with axe man is so fucking sick

3. killer track

killer track is the only nmt episode so far that's made me actually cry. god. he was watching the fireworks.

to be completely honest i. don't even know what to comment on for this episode i'm just stuck in never ending holloweane brainrot. god he's so in love with her. AND SO AM I!!! miss holloway is such a compelling character and this nmt episode especially teases a lot about how she ended up the way she is. we also learn about her past and just like everything about her is so interesting to me, i love her protective nature but also that she's so calculated in her every move. and somehow always knows exactly what to do. also i love duke keane i can't leave him out of this

the concept of this episode is also just so viscerally horrifying, it's essentially something i used to have nightmares about like something scary that's ringing so loudly in your ears that nothing can block it out so this genuinely hit like a sort of irrational fear that i pretty much used to have as a kid. it's not so bad that i can't watch but still hit me in a sort of way that reminded me of my own fears. maybe that's also why i love miss holloway she would save me if i ever ended up in that situation

2. the witch in the web

i feel like witch in the web is very underrated?? i don't see a lot of people talking about it compared to some other episodes which i think is such a shame because it's so incredible

the scene where hannah thinks she's seeing lex and then it turns out to be the witch was SO spooky watching it the first time, seeing angela play out this sort of over-excited version of lex and it slooowly becoming more and more sinister is so insane especially with her pulling out the dolls of the lords in black. it's such a great scene!!

also the lore we learn about the witchwood forest and what originally happened to willabella muckwab and how the black book came to be is so integral to the entire lore, and i love the way it's told with hannah & miss holloway sort of walking in this old dreamlike world. plus the confrontation with wilbur cross in the starlight GOD this episode has so many cool moments and it can do so much because they're in nightmare time and not in actual hatchetfield most of the time. i do, however, despise the idea that lex foster is serving what FOUR years in prison in this timeline. dont do that to my girl

1. yellow jacket

the scene where hannah & ethan come home and lex is waiting for them, so disappointed in herself not only for forgetting hannah's birthday but also for failing the test, angry at ethan for not reminding her about hannah's birthday.....that scene is probably my favourite moment in the entire hatchetverse? angela just fucking blew me away she plays it so well and not to mention joey richter ethan just. kills

yellow jacket just had to be first here, i'm so invested in these relationships and their past and how it led them to where they are here, the way this episode portrays how hard it is for lex and ethan because they're just trying to survive on what little resources they have while lex is also taking care of hannah: she cares for her so much that she's wanted to move them out of their mom's trailer. of course hannah would feel responsible and maybe guilty because lex has so much to worry about, of course hannah wants to take the first opportunity she gets to make them copious amounts of money, of course she's willing to put herself in terrible danger, all to help lex.

i love seeing this perspective on hannah, especially since in black friday we mostly see lex (and ethan) protecting and saving hannah when she's in trouble (although she definitely can fend for herself a little!). in yellow jacket we really see how responsible hannah must feel. when her and ethan see the ipad as a possible prize, her first thought isn't all the fun things you could use the ipad for, it's how much money they could get selling it. she doesn't understand the sheer danger of fighting pokey, which makes sense since she doesn't know that that is quite literally an eldritch god, she just wants to support lex.

this episode is just incredible in its every element: the portrayal of the characters, the story and the way it talks about the influence that money has on people's lives. not to mention watching literal children fight each other for entertainment. it's brutal but the core relationships are what eventually survive despite the circumstances

A RWBY RPG Idea: Formations

I'm not a game designer, nor am I someone with the skills or money to make a game. I'm just a guy who needs a hyper fixation to keep himself awake during the night shift

So, this is it.

RWBY's one of my favorite series and video games are some of my favorite forms of media, so obviously this was inevitable. Though I have to preface I have zero idea how deep I'll go with this idea. I'm labelling this title as if there's multiple parts but this is all I really have.

"But why an RPG?" The imaginary person asks.

Well, there was a couple of reasons. For one, I wanted to be somewhat realistic. I love RWBY and it's pretty popular, but it's not like it's got the ability to go for a full triple AAA game. I think a character action game would be great, but the amount of physics and work needed to put into those might be out of the ball park. With an RPG, you can still have impressive attack animations and action, just without the need for complex physics and enemy attacks and hit boxes and whatever. Fighting games are also in the ring, but Fighting games tend to be fighting games first and vehicles for narrative last. RWBY has gotten increasingly story and character driven, so I think an RPG is just a better fit for RWBY than a fighting game would be if it wanted to explore the world of Remnant.

Two, I think RPG is somewhat fitting. Monty was a huge Final Fantasy fan, and certain elements of RWBY, like Dust basically being materia.

Another very important reason is a thematic one. It seems to me, based on Grimm Eclipse and Arrowfell, they always want to include team mechanics in these games. Team up attacks in Grimm Eclipse are more common from my experience in multiplayer and Arrowfell necessitates using all 4 girls and was initially advertised with multiplayer. I think an RPG is a great setting to do team stuff with the least hassle, whether that be via dual techs or all out attacks or pair units or whatever else you can think of.

But now let's get into it

Story

I'm not doing story.

No, seriously.

This is a big limiting factor here since a story can often help give a game direction for its mechanics and character design, but I'm not going to pretend to know how to best make a story for RWBY. You can place it in Beacon, in Atlas, in Vacuo, in some sort of extra adventure in the Ever After on their way home, in some side continuity- Point is, that topic is so broad and vague that it's almost pointless for me to speculate on what it could be about, especially since RWBY's story isn't finished.

Gameplay

Final Fantasy XIII

Say what you will about the game, most have, but it's a heckin good battle system. It's also one of the first to try to be more actiony and cinematic without fully delving into action rpg, which is good for this. I'd love to have a FF7 Remake style RWBY game, but that's super complicated and, as mentioned, I'm not trying to imagine something too improbably here.

But there's one big reason I gravitated to XIII: Paradigms.

To me, this is a great system to enable team game play in a few possible ways.

I want to actually preface this by mentioning the idea I had before this one. This isn't vital to the gameplay idea, just my thoughts, so you can skip this if you want to. Long story short: I finally played the fangame Sonic RPG episode 10. It was good. It also has an ATB style gameplay, like XIII, so it's actually relevant. The Drive system got me thinking though. It's named after various Sonic characters and gives Sonic a stance system essentially. What if those were just actual team up formations? Like if the game was primarily Ruby calling in Weiss, Blake, and Yang for different formations. Then I just decided, fuck it, why do just Ruby teaming up with the others? Why not just do the whole team? (The Ruby main character with calling in different team mates to back her up is still a good idea though. I'll keep that one in the back pocket)

Back to the important bits: Let's give a rundown for the uninitiated. XIII's combat system doesn't use turns, and instead uses a meter that builds over time to let you perform actions. What actions you can perform are determined by your Paradigm. Each Paradigm focused on something different: Damage, chain building, tanking, healing, buffing, and debuffing.

So, what if I just used Team RWBY's team up formations as stand ins for paradigms? I mean, with 4 members, there would be 6 team up attacks, a perfect number to fit 6 paradigms. Now, these aren't one to one. I did want to take into account how the team up is depicted in RWBY to inform how they should function. This means I've actually modified some of the paradigms to split their roles or take on new ones to satisfy this.

Bumblebee was easy. It fills the slot of Commando, the damage dealer. It's big, strong, but unable to pin down the paladin without assistance. The same is true of XIII's Commando. A big damage dealer, but it needs help from Synergists's buffs and Ravager's chain building to deal it's huge damage.

Freezerburn: Another easy one. FB was used to blind the paladin, so it's easily the Sabateur, the debuffer.

Ladybug is where things slowly begin to shift. My current idea is to make it Ravager-esque. Ravager builds up the stagger meter on enemies, eventually breaking the enemy and letting you deal several times the damage you normally can. There's some differences here though. Ravager uses elemental attacks, this doesn't. I'm also considering whether or not stagger is the bar this kind of game should use. Building a more tradition limit break meter is in the back of my mind, maybe unleashing dual techs or a full team combo. Either way, with this dealing a huge combo of hits, it's obviously the meter builder.

Ice Flower is where I start making bigger changes. This is one of the buffers. Yes, one of them. I've decided to split the buffing between two roles, both of them featuring Weiss actually due to how she uses her glyphs. Because of this split, I'm actually splitting a lot of the other roles too and stitching them together. Due to how this Ice Flower is depicted, I'm thinking adding the offensive and elemental buffs here, while also giving it some attack options. Not sure where they'd lean to in comparison BB, LB, and even FB (since Sabo actually deals some damage), but that could be figured out later. I wanted to figure out overall roles first

Checkmate is the other buffer. You'd think with Schnee-brand haste, it'd be offensive, but nope! I'm making it a defensive role. Yes, not just buffer, role. It's half defensive buffs from Synergist and half Sentinel. Lightning's Sentinel in particular for more of a dodge focused build. Why? Honestly, it was inspired by Amity Arena's interpretation of this team up, being focused on negating attacks and such.

Which brings us to the Unnamed and Unseen Ruby and Yang Team up. That really needs a name at least. So, I'm actually glad this hasn't been shown off. It means I can do whatever I want with it. This makes it perfect to be the only healing role via Ruby's silver eyes and hopeful spirit, as well as pick up the last Sentinel moves with Yang's bulk.

Did not proofread! Enjoy the horrid au that has haunted my since spring of 2021. It genuinely helped me with my mental health but it's also horrible and weird and I don't know what came over my friend and I when we came up with it <3 it was also conceived over a 4 week period, we just kept piling stuff onto it. The Caellach x Valter part of this au is just the tip of the ice berg and there's so much more bs with the other Grado generals, some antagonists from fe6, 7, 13, 14 and also Silque from fesov. She's not an antagonist even in the slightest, I just was obsessed with her for a long time. I have not played fesov.

Vital information:

The mobile spinoff (fe heroes) takes place in a country called Askr. The idea is that each fe game is a seperate world but the FEH protag, Kiran, can summon them to Askr and use them in their army. It's just the in universe explanation for how it's a gacha game.

Also I am. so very sorry. for how ooc this is.

So it starts with Caellach finding out Valter and Linus (don't look him up, you'll get spoilers) had a fling a while ago. Caellach is homophobic so he goes around telling everyone else that Valter and Linus are gross and gay. The rest of the friend group (Grado generals and some other gba villains you don't know) are all queer though so they're just like "and? Idc".

Groups starts bullying Caellach for being a homophobe and it evolves into a joke that Caellach is just jealous of Linus cause he wanted to be with Valter.

Narcian (don't google him) gets the genius idea of offering Valter large amounts of money to date Caellach. Valter explains the situation to Caellach and they agree to fake date and split the money 50/50.

As all fake dating stories go, they end up falling love and just start real dating. Caellach also really really cares about Valter so he starts actively working to improve himself as a person cause he wants to be a good bf. Remember this for later.

Skip to 5 years later. I don't remember if it was 5 or 3. Valter and Caellach are happily married with some adopted kids and a cat called Minty. You don't need to know all of them, the important one is Marianne.

Joshua gets summoned to Askr. Caellach has had time to improve and become a better person, but for Joshua, Ismaire's death was only like a week ago.

Obviously Joshua he's pissed. He knows Caellach has become better but still absolutely despises him so he starts harassing him and basically just digging up a lot of old stuff.

This goes on for a while and stuff escalates until Caellach commits suicide. Valter does not deal with this well at all and ends up neglecting his kids and becoming an alcoholic.

As the oldest, Marianne ends up having to take care of the others, which creates a big rift between her and Valter.

Sothis, who has been here the whole time sorry I didn't mention her before, gets tired of seeing Valter like this and helps him fix his life. He tries repairing his relationship with his kids but it doesn't go very well.

Anyway more time passes and Valter makes a deal with Sothis. If she makes him immortal, he'll open an orphanage.

Reason for doing this: him and Caellach both had abusive parents (not in canon, this is a hc) so they had a dream of opening an orphanage to help kids who'd been hurt.

Valter has that orphanage for 10 000 years somehow. I don't know where the number 10 000 came from. At this point, he doesn't remember Caellach at all or why he opened the orphanage, but he's found someone else he trusts to take over it when he dies (Ninian) so he asks Sothis to kill him.

She does. He wakes up in the afterlife and remembers Caellach. They reunite :3 the end :3

Other stuff:

The cat Minty. Oh my GOSH Minty. The thing about her is that she can see ghosts and Valter can talk to animals (I can't for the life of me remember where that came from) so Valter would say something then Minty would say what Caellach's ghost responded with. Absolutely horrible method of communication. Minty also hates Valter a bit so she'd sometimes lie and say Caellach said something horrible.

Full list of kids adopted by Caellach and Valter: Marianne, Hector, Reginn, Rebecca, Raigh, Lugh and Chad. Do not look up the last four, you'll get spoilers for stuff. Anyway after a while, my friend and I kinda forgot about Hector, Reginn and Rebecca so they don't even really count anymore.

I think this fic is what was lying within from the far reaches of hell that made whoever read it go mad. ive observed truly forbidden information and now must live with it

gotta say imagining a fake dating plotline with valter and caellach is extremely funny to me. imagining any kind of ship trope with these two is funny to me actually because they’re just. they’re just them. I don’t have a better way to explain this sorry

I do (ironically) love it when people make posts about how little fucks they give about tumblr changes, and making a point to ridicule the people who were, in fact, upset by those changes. Very cool. :)

And now seriously?

UI change is not the worst thing on earth, and often can actually improve the quality of life and make the place better.

While yes, the tumblr user base does not typically receives change happily (unless it's good, polls, am i right?) to say that this is all about the users being 'bitchy' or 'silly' is a gross understatement of what upsets people in reality and is pretty damn rude.

I will not go down to every single point of why it's bad, but I'll bring forth a few points nevertheless.

Releasing a massive UI change while there's still active and major bugs and issues in the main functionality of your platform is not only bad towards a loyal user base that is used to a certain way of things, it's also unprofessional, incompetent, and quote frankly—stupid.

Here is an example of main tumblr functionality, the post editor on web. As a website that is heavily reliant on text posts, and the ability of users to be able to write quality posts, the fact that as of today, the text editor is heavily bugged, is truly a thing to be astonished by.

Especially considering the fact that some users (namely me) made a point of sending them a proper documentation of the bug, along with full descriptions and even a screen recording for an easy recreation of the issue on their side.

So now with this in mind, and many other bugs like this still present, since April they could not have fixed the post editor— but they could add numerous and absolutely pointless UI changes, right?

Now taking it a step further, let's address the UI changes, why not?

The changes they're rolling out are clearly unpolished, unfinished and untested. The audacity to force hardly-working versions onto people without any sort of consent as is customary in such an unpolished version of a product is something that I have no other words for other than absolutely shameless.

Even look at the Chat UI change, the text is smaller, the windows cover other parts of the dashboard, the Chat visually changes from section to section of the website (for instance it's new on main, it's old on support page) and again, endless amount of other bugs.

What's worse? And I will not go into depth about this particular topic as not so many people are from 10+ years ago still here, but just in short: The loss of identity that tumblr had prided itself for so long with. We are not like other social media, right? Or well, so we thought. As it seems like tumblr is adamant to change and curate for new users that will, frankly, leave the moment their social media gets fixed. Some will stay, and they are warmly welcome to, however most will leave just as they did last time twitter had a crisis.

P.S You have to appreciate the irony of tumblr making money out of making fun of twitter, and the user base supporting it because that's the sort of UI changes we do enjoy— only for tumblr to copy paste twitter some months after :)

But yes, why not, call everyone a crybaby, since siding with a staff that simply does not listen to its user base or cares about fixing current and relevant bugs—is the way to go!

P.S2 it's absolutely fine if you're unbothered by the change or simply don't care. Ain't nothing wrong with having some good proportion on things. However please don't embarrass yourself by making fun of the people who actively care and worry about how this place operates and what sort of platform we'll be engaging in the future.
