To illustrate this post by @mayahawkse I would like to visualize to you the difference:
A post in 2023:
Tumblr media
A post in 2014:
Tumblr media
A zoom out of the same post:
Tumblr media
This is what a community looks like.
See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.
It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.
Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.
If you want more of something, reblog it.

Okay, so let’s get this straight
This is a single comment Matt got, literally once, that almost immediately, and when I say immediately I mean immediately, triggered the ban of a trans woman:
Tumblr media
And this is what trans people here on tumblr get in just a few hours that takes tumblr staff days and/or weeks, maybe never, to actually take action on, meanwhile in that timeframe these people are still allowed to post and harass trans people as much as they please:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does this seem fair? At all? This doesn’t seem very queer friendly for “the queerest place on the internet”
Why does the cis white dude get special privileges when someone simply makes fun of him for being a bad ceo, but trans people who are actively being harassed, getting death and harm threats, told to kill themselves, etc. literally have to beg for staff to do something
What’s up with that, @staff? Why do I have to beg to be protected and to have other trans individuals protected by staff when that’s literally your job? I have to beg while these people get to do whatever they want because you never actually do anything about it? That your ceo gets special little boy privilege and can have whoever he wants banned whenever he wants? Why aren’t you doing what you’re supposed to?

A no notification curse is spreading across Tumblr!
It is unfortunately sporadic. And there has been no reasonable explanation for when it appears. So far it appears to happen for reblog notifications. No matter how long the reblog discussion has been happening, at times a notification will not appear. Usually meaning the victim of the no notification curse has to seek out the reblog manually.
Spread the word! Make it so the Tumblr gods see this!

Has anyone else been seeing a HUGE bot increase lately? Over the weekend and into today, I've received over 100+ bots, over the span of 3 days... not to mention the 8-9 I just received within my 15-minute drive coming home from work. My entire work break today was consumed with reporting and blocking the 30+ bots I received last night while I was sleeping. And they just keep coming. They have not stopped, nor has the activity slowed down. These bots are getting ridiculous :V
@staff you need to get a handle on this issue asap. I simply don't have the time or patience to keep up with them all.

WE WIN THESE
But it’s not over yet, there has been heaps of other blogs who have experienced the same thing but did not have the reach or the community or the support I did in getting this issue solved.
Tumblr, although I’m grateful for being able to post again, you need to fix your spam trapper. It’s not working and causing real bots to slip through and banning and blocking real blogs.
Thank you for all the support guys, especially @amtrak-official and @humans who helped me fix and boost this issue!!

Tumblr. I'm begging you
so one of my uniform swap posts got assigned a ''Mature Community Label'' completely without my knowledge. No e-mail or notif to let me know, and there's no longer a "review flagged posts" tab for me to quickly check and contest an arbitrary label.
and what that does, apparently, is not just hide that one post, (which if it were actually mature fair enough) it sticks this extremely misleading overlay over my whole blog. One that makes it seem as though a decent number of my posts are mature enough as to need a warning before you even look. You know, instead of one (incorrectly labelled) mature post out of over 300.
and when you click to view blog, the individual post is STILL HIDDEN ANYWAY??
I dunno, it's just exhausting. As soon as I think I've sorted one tumbl """quirk""" another pops up to teach me not to get so cocky.
(Also. If I open up a ticket and try to reply to the e-mail support sends me:
Tumblr media
Come on guys.)

i wonder if y'all even realize how little tumblr staff cares about the general userbase XD
Tumblr media
literally don't even hide it, don't even try to XD
they know that people who are here for 5-10+ years won't leave, hence they don't give a fuck whatever you're comfortable or enjoying yourself.
maybe they'll care when the same userbase stops buying crabs and paying for fake twitter marks and ad-free dash :)
since the "new and infrequent users" sure as hell are not the ones buying those things. but hey. get money from the general userbase and only serve the "new and infrequent" users. right?

if tumblr ever rolls out a forced algorithm or forcibly removes chronological order from this website, we need to be prepared to boycott. im not fucking joking, tumblr's user interface is getting closer and closer to the same carbon copy bullshit used by tumblr, twitter, and to an extent tiktok, and if we actually have a problem with it—and we all VERY MUCH DO—we need to be prepared to group protest. the reddit "strike" was only 24 or 48 hours, with a set start AND end date. because of this, reddit's ceo openly admitted the strike would not affect reddit's new user changes because the protest was not a big enough threat to reddit's business.
but im fully prepared to log off indefinitely until tumblr shapes up their act. all these dashboard un-fuckers are a lifesaver, yes—but they're really just band-aid solutions, and eventually, tumblr's going to start changing things that can't be solved with a firefox extension.

I've had to block a lot of bots in the last few days, and I accidentally realized that some of the no-avatar no-post accounts, have some likes, and they might be real people.
I checked all of the other accounts for likes, and only blocked the ones who had absolutely nothing on their account. If you've made a tumblr account for the first time, and didn't change your avatar, didn't reblog or like anything, and you're just here to read things, that is 100% okay, and I would not want to block or report you for that.
However, tumblr has a problem where bot-accounts do a large-scale following, and then proceed to send spam, use the link to your blogs to promote themselves as 'real accounts', do promotions using your blog as link to a real person, and eventually you end up having to block them from messaging and harassing you. It's because of that we HAVE to block and report bots, they'll swarm and harass us otherwise. They're also skewing the numbers and making it impossible to tell how many actual real people are following and interacting with your blog.
So if you're new here, and just want to read, please put some kind of picture as your avatar, or put at least one single post on your blog, just to verify to the rest of us that you're real. I had more than 70 fake accounts follow me in the last few days and I'm mortified to imagine I accidentally blocked and reported an actual person.

Is this just a problem that I'm having, or is this happening to other people on here? Is there a way to fix this?
