In this Season of Darkness … Find the Light Inside. Restore.
Winter is one of my favorite times. I don’t mind the cold, I love the snow, and really like the dark mornings. I like the way the darker days help me feel cozy. They help me remember that a time for rest and restoration is important. I forget that. I enjoy being with people, creating projects, and working on things. If I am not careful I spend all my energy in the external world. To be healthy we must balance the internal and external. Some of us are too internal, some too external. We need the balance of both. End Abuse. Learn to Regulate Your Emotions.
Domestic violence impacts  20 US citizens every minute.   It can be physical, emotional, or verbal abuse.
The difficulty with DV is the relational nature of the perpetrator to victim. There is often a cycle of abuse and connection that make it difficult to end the relationship, even when both parties know it is not healthy for them.
Often both have witnessed or experienced DV in past relationships and have not learned another way to express frustration, hurt, anger, fear, and love.
Emotional regulation skills help us understand what we are feeling and work with them without hurting others through projection, shame, and blame to feel better.

Stop Pointing the Finger and Saying “Those People Are Wrong” - We are Way More the Same than Different.
In social psychology we have a thing called othering. It is when one group says “those people are wrong”.
It is a way that groups create cohesion and connection through a shared value system or beliefs. They point the finger outside the group and label the “others” as wrong or bad to reinforce why their values and beliefs are better.
We are seeing a lot of this in our culture today.
The more we are with people who think and act like us, the more we polarize. The more our group polarizes the more we other.
In reality, we are much more alike than we are different. We share more values than we disagree on, and we are more connected than we think.
Today notice when you are othering - and see if you can find commonalities in the other person. Even as simple as they are human, too will get you started.

Stop Catastrophizing!
Are you someone who catastrophizes situations? Your go to is it’s going to be horrible … or amazing? Do you all or nothing your expectations? This is going to set you up for strife.
Tumblr media
If we are stuck in all or nothing thinking we miss opportunities to work with the in between. We often get stuck in the past or worry about the future. Instead remember that things are rarely all or nothing. Usually there are variations and levels to anything. If you find yourself going down the rabbit hole of it’s going to horrible/amazing - remind yourself that it may be both. Find the in between it might be often it is ___. Or sometimes it is _____. Or it could be _____. Or most of the time things are _____. But not always.  Read more about thinking more positively here.

You Are What You Eat
You’ve heard it before you are what you eat.
The food you ingest matters.
Tumblr media
It offers the building blocks for your body to create the neurotransmitters, hormones, and structures needed to remain focused, content, and enjoying this life you are living.
When we feed ourselves poorly our gut microbiome does not have the fuel it needs to set us up for positive mental health. We get overgrowth of the “weed” bugs who are opportunistic and take over rather than balance out or needs.
Today notice how you feel right before and right after you eat. Let us know what you find.

How To Deal With Uncertainty
For many of us uncertainty is difficult to deal with. It doesn’t feel safe.
Tumblr media
We work hard to shift ourselves away from it and make decisions just to get out of the unknown. However, this can cause us to make decisions too quickly, not in our best interest, or without all the facts.
Today see if you can sit with feelings of uncertainty without needing or trying to change them. Just let them be and watch what happens next.

Yoga for Depression Relief
Depression is difficult to deal with. The emotions of it are heavy, the thoughts negative, and the resulting lack of motivation challenging to our sense of being.
Yoga is a great way to meet the lethargy of depression in our nervous systems and help shift our energetic state to something more productive.
Check out this video I did outlining how yoga can help with depression with Sarah Klein at Whole Health Lab. https://buff.ly/2J1IThx
Tumblr media
Or try these exercises out to help yourself move your mood. Just 12 min of yoga a day for 8 weeks has been shown to be as effective as an SSRI for depression. Today “take your medicine” and get on your mat. https://buff.ly/3kqjADE

We all have trauma.
Some experiences are worse than others, some easier to deal with.
Tumblr media
For many we pretend we aren’t dealing with trauma and thus keep our survival brain operating instead of our socially engaged learning brain. This hurts us all and gets worse with time.
Trauma impacts your physical health, relationships, and ability to be successful. Is it time you faced your fears and healed your trauma?

Love Your Boobs!
I work with a lot of women who are shamed for their sexuality.
When women can own their sexuality and the feminine is honored our whole society is more healthy.
We need the balance of both masculine and feminine in our culture. Today in honor of breast cancer awareness month - Love your Boobs!
Tumblr media
Not because they are sexy but because they represent the powerful nature of female sexuality and all that comes with the sacred feminine.

Learning to Let Go
One of the many lessons of fall is that it teaches us to let go. That all things have a season and that things end.
As hard as the lesson is, look around and watch mother nature teach us how to let go.

Loving Anger
Anger is one of my favorite emotions to work with. It’s fiery, catalytic, and transformative.
Tumblr media
So many fear this emotion, but it is the one that helps us see our boundaries, values, and set about living them in truth. Anger gets a bad rap not for its power — but for what people do with it.
Today own your anger without projecting it onto others. Savor its message just for yourself.

An easy trick to help you focus right now.
Want to help yourself focus?
Tumblr media
If you can stand up. Do it right now and allow yourself to read, write, or think while on your feet. Literally. Sway, bounce, rock and see if this helps your mind focus on the task in front of you.
The movement doesn’t have to be big, even small movements help us focus using the body as a container for our busy minds.
Did you try this out? Tell us how it worked for you.
