"Iā€™m just going to say it: comedies, more often than not, are not considered as important as dramas. Now, Iā€™m not saying that we need to take comedies seriously, however, it seems that comedies are often overlooked in favor of shows with heavy subject matter."

Title: As a Canadian, I Am Disappointed in Our Public Education System
"However, in the last year alone, time and again, it felt as though I was being smacked in the face with how badly the Canadian public education system failed me (and others). It failed in many different ways, but in this instance, I am more concerned with the sheer lack of knowledge I have regarding Canadian history."

ā€œā€™Can I hug you?ā€™
That was not a question I was ever used to hearing before my first year of college. In truth, I doubt Iā€™ll ever be used to it.ā€

Blog post #3!
ā€œThis pandemic has had some rather interesting effects on all of us. Now, I would like to say it has affected ā€œsome better than others,ā€ but Iā€™m quite certain the overall view is that it has ruined things for people. There is no ā€œbetter,ā€ except with a few exceptions.ā€

Why I Write
Tumblr media
So why do I write?
That is a very good question, and I am sure the answer is not so complicated. Still, I have to think about it.
I know that I have almost too many characters in my head. I know that I am constantly constructing entire conversations in my head between my characters, so much so that I sometimes become more preoccupied with whatā€™s going on in my mind than real life. Whether these conversations make it into my stories (unaltered from how I originally imagined them) is another matter entirely. Some do. Some donā€™t.
Whenever one of my stories gets a comment, I know I always feel a flare of excitement. Now, I donā€™t write purely for recognition. I would have quit years ago if that was the only reason behind it. But it is always a nice surprise when it happens.
I could go on, but you know what, I think Iā€™ll go back to the question on hand. Why do I write? Not for money, not simply to be recognized. As evidenced by the journal I started in the last couple of months, sometimes I really do write for the purpose of expressing myself and aiding my mental health.
But that's not the only reason, either. Itā€™s not even the main reason.
Sometimes, I do it for other people. I have been known, from time to time, to write poems for people who have recently lost a loved one. On more than a few occasions, I addressed, through my characters, some of the many prejudices in the world. Iā€™d like to think that, someday, my writing will both entertain and help people, in a way.
I have scenes inspired by things that happened in my life. On occasion, I enjoy having members of my family make brief appearances in my stories. There are even a few nonfiction pieces I have writtenā€“ā€“the one being about myself and my experiences as a hearing disabled person. This piece sought to educate people. That is another reason.
I have so many characters in my head. Some fully fleshed out; some that need a little work. There are countless stories and strings of words flying around my mind. So many that I have to write down my ideas so that I wonā€™t forget.
And if I donā€™t write about these characters, about these stories, who will?
Thatā€™s right: no one. Because I know my characters best and I donā€™t trust that anyone else could write them as well as I can.
So, one last time: why do I write? I have given all of these reasons, but I have not settled on any of them.
Really, I think I write because I have to. Because not writing, no matter how frustrating it can be, is unthinkable to me.
And so thatā€™s what Iā€™ll do.

College Reading
Tumblr media
Normally, I wouldn't think there's such a thing as too much reading, but with college, I have so much to read (including books) that I have very little time for my own to-read list. Thankfully, I do enjoy most of the books I read for my English class.

A brief, descriptive piece I whipped up in a writers club sometime ago:
The moment she entered the forest, the girl was filled with immediate disquiet. It wasn't that the forest was dead, exactly. On the contrary, it was quite lively. In terms of plant life, at least.
The ground was covered by lush green plants, cushioning her foot as she stepped forward. They spread across the ground, twisting around each other in a mass of green. Interspersed in this green was the occasional flash of yellow or white. Weeds, she realized.
Towering above her were trees so impossibly tall, even craning her neck did not allow her to see the tops. The leaves created a thick coverage, allowing little to no light to shine through. Hanging from these trees were impossibly thick vines, drooping toward the ground as if determined to strangle anyone who dared enter.
The most disturbing thing, the girl found, was the utter silence that echoed around her.
