Here is a list of (almost) every Superman’s character flaw
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Post-Crisis: Insecurity. Struggles with his own identity and thus overcompensates. Too focused on being “human” and thus rejects his “alien” side.
Reeve: Fear of opening up, tries to be in control too much. Can’t face the fact that he can’t control everything. Eerily similar to Anakin Skywalker, too focused on saving things and people he’s attached to. Tries to have it all. Convinced he can because “I’m Superman.” He’s a man that tries to control his own fate. Despite the fact that he can’t even confess who he is to the woman he loves.
Silver Age: Control freak. Sometimes a little mischievous. Tries to punish his friends with complicated pranks to teach them a lesson. Usually more endearing than not, but it’s at the core of his character flaw. Despite being the most “Lawful Good” of the Supermen, he’s the biggest prankster of them all. Which kinda sheds light on his specific hatred for Prankster. The irony.
Bronze Age: Ego-centric. Spends so much time in his head thinking about the ramifications of his own actions—he fails to consider the other people around him. He’s unironically the most “Brooding” and “mysterious” Superman because he takes a lot of time for self-reflection. You see shades of this with Post-Crisis—the leading cause of him renouncing his American Citizenship because he was afraid of what that would represent when he saved people. Too much philosophizing, not enough praxis.
Golden Age: Cocky as a motherfucker. He’s the strongest being on the planet and acts like it. He’s the only Superman who has no reservations against taking human life. Thus, he’s not really concerned with how it “looks” when someone of his “stature” kills someone. All Praxis, No Theory. Bronze Age (& Mark Waid’s) Superman would HATE him. Like Joe Shuster once said, “It was always a lark for him, as you can see in my early drawings.”
New 52: Very much like Golden Age. Cocky. Arrogant at times. Too stuck in his own head. He’s in the transitional period between Golden Age Superman’s more practical & assertive approach and Bronze Age Superman’s paralizing self-realization and philosophizing regarding his “role” in the world. In other words, he’s squarely in his emo teenager era.

the reason why shonen and the best fictions rarely kill your favorite characters for good isn’t because they want to see him happy
it’s because the writers want to make him suffer more.
freaks.

One Piece’s villains are great because regardless of how horrible they are you can believably see why they would team up with Luffy because FUCK Celestial Dragons.
Like despite Kaido & Big Mom being massive POS if they decided they had enough of it and just wanted to absolutely kill some Celestial Dragons you would not only find it believable but you would root for them too and it wouldn’t be a betrayal of their characters. That how horrible the Celestial Dragons are.

It is scientifically proven that 99% of Marvel ships are healthier in Fan content, alternate universes and crackships than actual canon
Marvel can’t write a healthy relationship for more than Two Issues without inserting toxicity for drama. It’s the law.

Ursa never withdrew from Azula. The only time she left was when she was forced by Ozai to kill Azulon to protect Zuko’s life.
Her reprimanding Azula is also not a sign of bad parenting. Azula literally implied Azulon was gonna get murdered, and Ursa only became stern after, what, the second time Azula literally alluded to that?
It’s weird people who hate Ursa or think she’s a bad mom seem to just blame all of Azula’s red-flag/sociopathic behavior on Ursa instead of Ozai, the one who actually displayed open favoritism of their kids. While Ursa’s only crime was telling Azula to stop talking about her grandfather like he’s gonna croak.
I want to clear up a mistake people make with Azula and Ursa.
Ursa didn’t play favorites.
Ursa didn’t think Azula was a monster.
Ursa simply, unequivocally, just didn’t enable Azula’s worst traits like Ozai did.
Ozai’s favorite child was Azula, but Ursa still loved her more.
Because enabling isn’t love.
What did Ozai’s enabling do? It made Azula into the type of person to never have any loyal friends. It made the type of person that Mai and Tai Lee would betray at the risk of their own lives.
Ursa pushed Azula to be with her friends. To be with Zuko. Ozai pushed Ursa away, and both kids suffered for it. Azula became a sadist, enjoying seeing her brother get burned—while Zuko was pushed away because he cared for his people.
Azula thought her mom hated her because her mom was the only one who cared enough to tell her no.

I’m not a Korra hater but no amount of jingling nostalgia keys and ‘member berries in that show will ever make me forgive the show for making Toph a literal corrupt Cop and shitty mom.
Flawed Mom? Makes sense. A fucking Cop? A CORRUPT COP?! Playing favorites with her kids!?
Nah. Fuck off Bryke.

I don’t know who can relate. But despite me thinking Reed and Sue is good, and being a Fantastic Four fan since being a kid…
I NEVER liked the Reed and Sue “drama”. Not the same, tired old jokes about Namor. Not the recycled “reed wont pay attention to me so I’ll act attracted to another person to remind him that I can leave him any time” shit.
This is gonna sound harsh. But divorce at this point sounds healthier than this emotional push and pull.
Marvel is allergic to healthy relationships, I understand. But after a certain point a dynamic being “iconic” just wears off for me.
Reed and Sue will never be the #1 pairing tbh. “Seniority” my ass.

I’m not here to discourage fanfiction. If anything I wanna encourage it. So I’m not calling any soecific story out.
But I wanna just honestly say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crossover Fanfiction of any teen media with the Justice League where Superman actually gets written accurately.
Maybe it’s just the ones I read? Nah. It’s just the nature of crossover fics where Fanon trumps Canon.

She’s firm with Azula precisely because she reprimanded her behavior instead of enabling her. It’s not like she didn’t reprimand Zuko either. Ursa voiced her concern over Azula’s behavior—which Azula interpreted as fear.
Ursa was afraid. But not OF Azula. Rather she was afraid FOR Azula. Even Azula, when she’s having her mental breakdown, ultimately understands that Ursa truly did love her. Ursa was concerned of something being wrong in her daughter. The way she acted. Azula was displaying blatant signs of sociopathic behavior. That’s not just something she learned, it’s likely something she inherited too. Azula needed professional help tbh.
I want to clear up a mistake people make with Azula and Ursa.

Doc Savage is Awful and I Hate Him
Source: DC’s four-part Shadow Strikes/Doc Savage crossover “The Conflagration Man.” Given how tenuous the comics’ grasp is on The Shadow, I was willing to confine this judgment to comic Doc, but the wikis I checked confirmed that the worst element is true to canon…
Lemme ‘splain.
(Spoilers for the aforementioned storyline, but I mean, it’s from 1990.)
