Sketch somewhat from memory about Yuuki Reiko (Sket Dance)
I know it’s not perfect, and I don’t want to worry about that... To be fair, it’s been also a long time that I haven’t drawn anything with my tablet due to same silly worries about laptop and what not, and other stuff I have on mind that I take as priorities (also about having a sketch on pencil and paper rather than doing it directly on the Intuos because my results get mixed, lol).
So, anyway. Thinking about her (and Switch, cuz sometimes they come in package whenever I think of one or the other).

The Real Anime Awards of 2023 part 2
Every year, I become increasingly disappointed in the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, so I started making my own Anime Award lists THAT ARE FOR THE ACTUAL YEAR IN ANIME! IF CRUNCHYROLL WON'T INCLUDE FALL SHOWS THEN I WILL! I've already done my silly version for 2023, so now it's time for my serious picks. But it's still just for fun, so don't take any of my nominees too seriously or get offended that I didn't include your favorites. Even I can't watch everything.
Full disclosure, I don't include all the same categories that Crunchyroll does (just most of them). These are also only for television shows, so I didn't include any movies (and I really don't watch enough anime movies on a yearly basis to include a movie category).

Vinland Saga season 2
Tumblr media
Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead
Tumblr media
Oshi no Ko
Tumblr media
Frieren Beyond Journey’s End

Bleach Thousand Year Blood War part 2
Oshi no Ko
Blue Lock cour 2
Tokyo Revengers season 2
Mou Ippon! (Yes I'm 100% serious. I actually respect this show’s character design a lot, considering the artists were able to make realistic, distinct, varied female characters of all shapes and sizes without making them into moe blobs. So that's why this is on here instead of another shounen of the week.)

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
Best OP (yes there are 8 nominations, I couldn't decide 😭)
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 (“Specialz” King Gnu)- I really think this season’s OPs should be taken as a pair, but when it comes down to which OP will stand the test of time, I think this one will be more iconic.
Vinland Saga season 2 OP2 (“Paradox” Survive Said the Prophet)
Oshi no Ko (“Idol” YOASOBI)
High Card (“Trickster” Five New Old)
Hell’s Paradise (“Work” Millennium Parade)

Best VA Performance Japanese
Uemura, Yuuto As Thorfinn (Vinland Saga season 2)
Takahashi, Rei as Tomo (Tomo-chan is a Girl)
Satao, Gen as Ganta Nakami (Insomniacs After School) His laugh is so pure and genuine, I could listen to it forever!
Inoue, Marina as Armin Arlert (Attack on Titan the final season)
Tanezaki, Atsumi as Anya Forger (Spy Family season 2)
Nakamura, Yuuichi as Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen season 2)
So there you have it! My picks for the real anime awards of 2023. Like I said, don't take this seriously at all, it's just something fun I like to put together every year. I always try not to nominate the same things, but it's easy to end up playing favorites. It's so hard to try to include a variety!

Basic Instict Chapter 20
Masterpost Akashi showed you the room where you would be staying for a couple of days. "Fujioka said my grandmother's room is across yours, but it's not like she distrusts you. If anything, grandma just seems to be curious about you." "Fujioka is your mother's old butler right?" You asked for confirmation, having heard the name before. "Yes, I've known him since the day I was born." Akashi smiled fondly, and you couldn't help but smile back. "So he's like family huh?" "Kind of," Akashi's gaze faltered, feeling pain at knowing that his butler cared more for his happiness then his father did. Empathic as you were, you wrapped your arms around him, you forehead and his lovingly resting against one anothers. "Pity we were born with such a twisted parent, huh?" You muttered softly. "I wish he just cared about what I want, what I think is important and who I want to be." "I know, I think the same thing about my mom all the time." Akashi pulled you close to his chest, breathing in your scent. Just happy you were there, in his arms, that his father hadn't been able to take him away from you. There was a knock on the door, and you saw a maid who had to be in her thirties smile at the two of you. "Dinner will be ready soon," she said. "Thank you, have you settled in here?" He asked, to which she nodded. "It won't take long for me to have adjusted to this place. Your grandmother is as lovely as I remembered, so looks your girlfriend if I might add." You blushed at the compliment, and Akashi smiled. "I take it you're the maid from Seijuro's household?" "Yes Miss, my name is Yuuki Reiko and I am honored to be of your service. It's great to see the young master happy!" This time it was Akashi's turn to be a little red and the two of you smiled a bit awkwardly at her as she left looking extremely cheerful to have laid eyes on the girl Akashi was so smitten with.
You nervously sat at the dining table, together with Akashi and his grandmother. "I hope miso soup is alright with everyone, I am quite addicted to my chef's recipe." The Kaneshiro matriarch looked at you with the warm smile you would expect from a grandmother. "Oh, it's alright with me Madame Kaneshiro," you answered in the most polite tone you could muster. "There is no need to be so overtly formal. You are Seijuro's girlfriend, you can call me Rima-san." There was a certain firmness in which she said the word girlfriend, like you should act accordingly to your place, as his girlfriend and not some cowering commoner. You immediately held respect for her, as whilst she seemed kind and warm there was some regality to her. Something which she now, tried to teach you. You tried to sit up more firmly, confidently and Seijuro thought you looked like the cutest thing ever, taking her words so clearly to heart. "Now, my driver wanted to ask you some questions so I could know the general basics of your situation, but he felt it was inappropriate when he saw you with such a distressed face. I'd like to have a conversation with you after dinner, but first, let us eat." With an, 'itadakimasu', the three of you began to eat, and the miso soup was delicious indeed. Over the course of dinner, you had an easy going conversation, in which Akashi's grandmother asked you some trivial questions, like what club activities you did at school, if Rakuzan was a nice school and how the two of you had started dating. You could have sworn she seemed a little too curious about the juicy details, but too polite to start prying into her grandson's love life a little too much. She seemed so supportive in comparison to Akashi's stories about Masaomi, you wished, even if it were just for Akashi's sake, that he could stay with his grandmother forever. She clearly cared a lot more for his emotional well-being, and considering that was something you had wished for Akashi for as long as you knew him, you could almost shed tears of joy on his behalf. And you wished, from the bottom of your heart, that the sweet, happy moment you shared at the dinner table would last for a lifetime.

DIGIWEEK Day 3: Music
OK SO I didn’t actually think I was going to be making a compilation post like this but it turns out just thinking about Digimon music makes me incredibly emotional because I love it all SO!!!!!! Much. It is the primary way my love of Digimon has stayed strong all these years; no matter what else is going on, and even when I haven’t had access to the shows themselves, I’ve been able to carry the songs with me, and they have been (and continue to be) so incredibly comforting, inspiring, and downright moving that I can’t not share some of my absolute favorites:
undefined
youtube
Towa ni Tsuzuke!! Taichi Yagami/Toshiko Fujita, Digimon 10th Anniversary
Every Taichi song is an absolutely gorgeous work of art, but this one gives me so many feelings, and is so incredibly important to me personally. I’ve said it elsewhere, but there was a time when this song was literally the first thing I listened to every Monday morning to get myself ready for the workweek. I WILL very often sing along at top volume in my car, and there isn’t anything anyone can do to stop me. Rest in Peace Ms Fujita, I can’t even begin to describe what your voicework on Taichi has meant to me throughout my life.
https://youtu.be/Amw52e7LSEU
REACH FOR YOU Daisuke Motomiya/Reiko Kiuchi, Natsu e no Tobira 02 audio drama
My absolute favorite Daisuke song, and once again, that is saying a LOT. It’s so hauntingly beautiful, with so much feeling behind it (You have to click through to YouTube to listen, but trust me when I say IT IS WORTH IT!!).
undefined
youtube
Tobira DOOR (Acoustic Version) Yamato Ishida/Yuuto Kazama, Tegami ~Letter~ 02 audio drama
[Note: the actual song starts at about the 1 minute 30 mark, and there is a several-minute-long silence on the back end for some reason!]
Both versions of this song are gorgeous, but I think I prefer the acoustic one just a teeny bit more. It just feels so personal and intimate, which, given the context of the drama (Yamato wrote and performed this song for an unnamed girl to help her get through a difficult operation), makes so much sense-- and once again, such an emotional performance. Like most things related to Digimon and music, they didn’t have to go this hard, but they did, and I’m so incredibly grateful obscure gems like this exist (not sure if its existence is a testament to Digimon’s popularity, Yamato’s, or both XD). The seagulls at the end are such a perfect way to cap off the audio drama too, conjuring imagery of a cold, nearly-empty beach in winter, and I’m still in love with the cover art.
undefined
youtube
Yuuki o Uketsugu Kodomotachi e Wada Koji, Maeda Ai, Miyazaki Ayumi, Hassy, Ohta Michihiko, Wild Child Bound, Sammy, Tanimoto Takayoshi, We Love DiGiMONMUSiC
Oh geez! All of these are just like, REALLY EMOTIONAL SONGS, sorry about that! Well, this one is yet another “I can’t believe I get to experience so many beautiful things in my earbuds, wow Digimon fans are really spoiled” type of song, and features all the big names and players. I love how their voices come in and out and harmonize together! <3
undefined
youtube
Slow Starter Yuujin Oozora & Offmon/Makoto Furukawa & Yu Shimamura, Digimon Universe Appli Monsters Character Song & Original Soundtrack
Hey this one is bright and happy! ...kind of. Once again, THE HARMONIES, MAN. And I just love how Yuujin is so comforting and supportive of his Buddy throughout. It’s such a great duet, and the ending is just so sweet T^T
I'll catch you (you'll catch me) tightly, tightly, tightly I'll never, ever, ever, leave you We'll shut, shut out the hesitation that plagues you (me) Slowly, bit by bit, I'll go towards where you are
undefined
youtube
Daisuki-ism, Patamon/Miwa Matsumoto, Digimon Adventure Tri Character Song Album (Digimon Version)
OK, OK! This is the last one, I promise. And FINALLY something cute for cute’s sake (just don’t think about Confession. DON’T THINK! ABOUT! CONFESSION!). I’m guilty of always liking Patamon’s songs. They literally never fail to make me smile. Patapata!!

FEATURE: Meet the Stars of Princess Connect Re:Dive
Tumblr media
Going into Princess Connect! Re:Dive, I knew little about it other than the fact that it was an adaptation of a mobile game. That didn’t bode well; my experiences with video game adaptations have been less than positive.
Imagine my surprise, then, when it turned out to be hilarious. When a pair of ridiculous-looking wolves started dragging off our protagonist, I completely lost it. I found myself constantly laughing at the KONOSUBA-esque humor — it was only much later that I’d learn that Princess Connect and KONOSUBA shared the same director. It was also well-animated and delivered some impressive-looking action scenes and spell effects.
At the end of the day, however, this is a comedy anime through and through. And comedy anime live and die on the basis of their voice acting. Unsurprising, then, that Princess Connect features an all-star voice cast, with the actors from the mobile game reprising their roles in the anime. Let’s take a look at some of the talented voice actors that bring the characters of Princess Connect, both the game and the anime, to life.
Pecorine (M·A·O)
Tumblr media
Mao Ichimichi, also known as M·A·O, is probably better known for her non-anime roles — she started off her career in tokusatsu (live-action often with heavy special effects), most notably playing Luka Millfy in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. She later ventured into anime voice acting. She voices the cheerful and energetic (and perpetually hungry) Pecorine in Princess Connect. She has also voiced Iris in Fire Force, Luluco in Space Patrol Luluco, Hondomachi in ID:Invaded, Vorona in Durarara, Bela in Bem, and Remi Ayasaki in the currently-airing Horimiya.
Kokkoro (Miku Ito)
Tumblr media
This isn’t the first time Miku Ito has played a character named Kokoro, having played the character of the same name in the BanG Dream! franchise. Her most well-known role is probably that of her own namesake: Miku from The Quintessential Quintuplets. Her other roles include Shimamura from Adachi and Shimamura, Ann Akagi from Action Heroine Cheer Fruits (in which she starred alongside fellow Princess Connect actor M·A·O), and Nana Mifune in Gleipnir.
Karyl (Rika Tachibana)
Tumblr media
Rika Tachibana has an extensive voice acting career in video games, featuring in such titles as Granblue Fantasy, Magia Record, The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls, Street Fighter V, and of course Princess Connect, where she plays Karyl. Tachibana’s anime voice acting roles include Sae Kobayakawa from The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls, Reiko from Shomin Sample, Naruse from The Island of Giant Insects — in which she starred alongside ... you guessed it ... M·A·O — and African Wild Dog from Kemono Friends.
Yuuki (Atsushi Abe)
Tumblr media
Our main protagonist Yuuki may not say much, but Atsushi Abe manages to make whatever little he says absolutely hilarious. Abe garnered widespread recognition for his role as Touma Kamijou in A Certain Magical Index and its spinoffs. His other roles include Moritaka Mashiro in Bakuman, Koichi Sakakibara in Another, Takashi in B Gata H Kei, Akiyuki in Xam’d: Lost Memories, Soya in Planet With, Inojin Yamanaka in Boruto, and Sougo in IDOLISH7.
Kaiser Insight (Shouta Aoi)
Tumblr media
It is not uncommon for female voice actors to voice male roles, especially younger characters. But male voice actors voicing female roles? Extremely rare. Shouta Aoi’s unique, “angelic” voice allows him to do so, with him voicing main Princess Connect villain Kaiser Insight. Aoi is better known as a singer, but he made his voice acting breakthrough as Ai Mikaze in Uta no Prince-sama. Since then, he has voiced Hideaki Tojo in Ace of the Diamond, Licht in The Royal Tutor, and will voice Subaru in the upcoming adaptation of Tokyo Babylon.
  Maho (Maaya Uchida)
Maho is considered by the other Princess Connect characters to be slightly delusional, so of course she is voiced by Maaya Uchida, best-known as the voice of out-of-touch characters like Rikka from Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions and Ranko Kanzaki from The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls. Her non-delusional roles include Yoshioka from Blue Spring Ride, Norman from The Promised Neverland, Yuki Yoshino from Food Wars, and Catarina Claes from My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom.
  Miyako (Sora Amamiya)
Tumblr media
I mentioned earlier how Princess Connect feels incredibly KONOSUBA-esque, both in its setting and its sense of humor. Makes perfect sense, then, for it to feature the voice of Sora Amamiya, known for voicing “useless” goddess Aqua from KONOSUBA. Amamiya’s other notable roles include Elizabeth from The Seven Deadly Sins, Touka from Tokyo Ghoul, Akame from Akame ga Kill, Kaori from One Week Friends, Isla from Plastic Memories, and Asseylum from Aldnoah.Zero.
  Hiyori (Nao Toyama)
Nao Toyama played her first major role as Kanon Nakagawa in The World God Only Knows, which kickstarted her music career. Many people also know her as Yui Yuigahama in My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, or Chitoge Kirisaki in Nisekoi. However, the role for which I personally recognise her the most is as the quiet Rin Shima in Laid-Back Camp. Other major roles include Karen in KINMOZA!, Ruka in Rent-a-Girlfriend, and Nozomi in Sound! Euphonium.
  Suzume (Aoi Yuki)
Tumblr media
Aoi Yuki has been earning plaudits this season for her energetic portrayal of the titular spider in So I’m a Spider, So What? Yuki has had many significant voice roles over the years, including Madoka from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Tanya in Saga of Tanya the Evil, Froppy in My Hero Academia, Tamaki in Fire Force, Diane in The Seven Deadly Sins, and Mami in Rent-a-Girlfriend.
Rei (Saori Hayami)
Saori Hayami is one of the most in-demand voice actors of recent times. She is known for portraying Yukino Yukinoshita in My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, and received considerable praise for her performance as Shoko Nishimiya in A Silent Voice. Her other notable roles include Shirayuki in Snow White with the Red Hair, Shinobu in Demon Slayer, Tsuruko in AnoHana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Yumeko Jabami in Kakegurui, and Himawari in Boruto.
  Jun (Ayako Kawasumi)
Tumblr media
Jun is a classic knight in metal armor. And who better to voice a knight than Ayako Kawasumi, best known as the voice of Saber in various installments of the Fate franchise. Kawasumi is also a talented pianist, which explains her role as Nodame in Nodame Cantabile. Some of her other major roles include Fuu in Samurai Champloo, Erina Pendleton in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Alice in Pandora Hearts, Melfina in Outlaw Star, Natsuki in Initial D, and Lafiel in Crest of the Stars.
Io (Shizuka Ito)
Shizuka Ito won a “Best Actress in Supporting Roles” award at the 10th Seiyuu Awards for her performances as Meiko Shiraki in Prison School and Sailor Venus in Sailor Moon Crystal. Some of her other major performances are as Himawari in xxxHolic, Ran in Texhnolyze, Kaori Kanzaki in A Certain Magical Index, Boota and Darry in Gurren Lagann, Yayoi in Psycho-Pass, Rei Hasekura in Maria Watches Over Us, and Hinagiku in Hayate the Combat Butler.
Yui (Risa Taneda)
Risa Taneda is undoubtedly best known for her roles as Erina Nakiri in Food Wars and Kaori Miyazono in Your Lie in April. But to me, she will always be Saki from Shin Sekai Yori, where she delivered an excellent performance spanning many ages, and performed the first ending song too. Taneda’s other significant roles include Rize in Is the Order a Rabbit?, Mirai in Beyond the Boundary, Yukina in Strike the Blood, Ai Mizuno in Zombie Land Saga, Xenovia in High School DxD, and Yukari in YUYUSHIKI.
Labyrista (Miyuki Sawashiro)
Tumblr media
Miyuki Sawashiro is one of the most prolific voice actors of all time. She first came to prominence as the voice of Puchiko in Di Gi Charat; she famously reprised the role in the English dub of Leave it to Piyoko, becoming the first anime voice actor to voice the same character in both sub and dub. A few of Sawashiro’s other major roles include Kurapika in Hunter x Hunter, Celty Sturluson in Durarara, Bishamon in Noragami, Fujiko Mine in recent installments of Lupin the Third, and Kanbaru in the Monogatari series.
Aoi (Kana Hanazawa)
Tumblr media
Kana Hanazawa needs no introduction, being one of the most popular voice actors of our times. She rose to popularity as Nadeko in Bakemonogatari and its sequels, performing the iconic opening song “Renai Circulation.” Some of her other anime roles include Akane from Psycho-Pass, Mayuri from Steins;Gate, Angel from Angel Beats, Kosaki Onodera from Nisekoi, Hinata Kawamoto from March Comes in Like a Lion, Kuroneko from Oreimo, and Ichika from The Quintessential Quintuplets.

First Impression: The Heike Story
Tumblr media
The setting is medieval Japan in an era where a loose word against the local lord can cost you your life—or that of your family member, as young Biwa learns tragically in the opening moments of this episode. The child has heterochromia, a fairly common visual trope in anime, but this particular case of the condition of mismatched eye colors is not purely aesthetic, and Biwa’s struggles with her eye are far more deadly than the anxiety that Ai suffered in Wonder Egg Priority. No, when Biwa covers her naturally-colored brown eye, her pale blue right eye is filled with visions of the future, and it seems that all she ever sees is death. After wandering for an undisclosed amount of time disguised as a boy minstrel, the self-named Biwa (a name chosen after the instrument she plays) encounters a lord, Shigemori, who also possesses a special eye, though his powers of sight are weaker than hers and his eye coloring less pronounced. He is determined to win Biwa’s trust because she has seen the destruction of his clan, the Heike, and he is hoping to persuade her to help him avert their disastrous future which, although he has not seen with his own sight, he has been able to anticipate according to the unavoidable fact that all tyrants fall and his clan are becoming tyrannical. They were responsible, after all, for killing Biwa’s father. And so begins a tale of found family and family feud; of politicking and intrigue, poetry and coming of age; of special abilities and the limits of power; and potentially of the healing of one little girl’s heart.
Tumblr media
Shigemori, Biwa and her, um, biwa. And the two maids who have to deal with her fleas and ill manners. Ora ora!
I have so much to say about this premiere episode and all of it is very, very good. Let’s begin with the most striking feature of this episode: the cinematography. It’s not very often that cinematography stands out so startlingly in anime, but it does here, rendering what otherwise might be a throwaway opening shot of a butterfly into a poem on the profundity of stillness. Naoko Yamada (K-On, A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird) has long since been recognized for bringing a uniquely cinematographic quality to her directorial work. Indeed, she aspired to be a filmmaker before joining KyoAni as an inbetweener and sky-rocketing up the ranks to become one of, if not the, youngest female director in the industry. If you appreciate the details of camera angle, framing, deep focus, delicate character acting, lighting, and other features of filmmaking, you will enjoy this series.
Tumblr media
Framing, shifting focus, and the juxtaposition of narcissus in bloom and the late snowfall are just some of the details that make this such a cinematic and poetic work.
The story itself is based on the Japanese medieval epic, Heike Monogatari, the tale of bloody conflict between the Taira and Minamoto clans during the Genpei War of 1180-85 that was translated recently into modern Japanese by Hideo Furukawa. The story has served as inspiration for many forms of cultural expression in Japan for centuries, including woodblock prints. I mention these because the art style of the anime strongly recalls the woodblock prints or ukiyo-e of the 17th-mid-19th centuries, the most famous of which (for a Western audience) would be Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa. The colors are rich but with minimal shading, yet with a textured finish reminiscent of ink on thick vellum or watercolor paper that softens the  shadowless kagenashi technique. The linework is clear and light, and the character designs a sort of modernized take on the stylized figures of the woodblock prints of the Edo period. Kensuke Ushio’s musical score likewise combines modern rock elements with the traditional sounds of the biwa and shamisen in an unexpected yet evocative way.
Tumblr media
Aoi Yuuki works her usual magic with Biwa, managing to inject an already expressive, independent little girl with an extra helping of gumption and winsome grumpiness. This first episode has done a great deal to set up a range of distinct personalities and relationships that are going to be both hilarious and heart-warming to watch play out.
Tumblr media
This has been my most most anticipated series of the season, and possibly the year (despite the Cold War level top secrecy about the project! Nary a whisper of its existence until just a couple of weeks ago!), and it looks set not to disappoint. Yamada and Ushio are my anime power team, my OTP of anime creators, and it’s wonderful to see them working together again, and alongside veteran collaborator Reiko Yoshida (who has written all the good things), no less. I am a little concerned that the dynamic trio have shifted studios from KyoAni to Science SARU, but the latter has done some beautiful work in the past (Ping Pong the Animation, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, Ride Your Wave) so my hopes remain high that The Heike Story will become a favorite for years to come.
Tumblr media
Also looking forward to this dude (not Shigemori) getting his comeuppance!
=====
The Heike Story can be streamed on Funimation. Oh, and did I mention that we’re getting it an entire season before Japan?!? Well, we are. Thanks, Funi!

🎃 Frightful October Act VI, #16 ~ Black Cats (Sasuke Tsubaki)
Tumblr media
📑 Table of Contents
Genre: Supernatural, Fluff, Crack, Romance
Word Count: 3,623
Pairing: Reader x Tsubaki
World: SKET Dance
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
You kneeled down on the grass, sprinkling dry cat food on the ground in front of you. Three cats were gathered in front of you, happily munching on the food you provided them. This was a regular activity for you since your first year at Kaimei High. You had always had a deep love for cats, so when you noticed one stalking the grounds when you first came to the school, you immediately tried to befriend it.
The cat was skittish and kept its distance from you. You ended up missing three classes that day, getting scolded by both your teachers and the student council vice-president, who also happened to be a close friend of yours. The scolding was worth it, in your opinion, because you had gained his trust that day.
Since then, the cat would always wait patiently by the bushes for you to feed him and pay attention to him, but he never ate in front of you. He would pick up as much food as he could in his mouth before rushing off through the bushes. One day, you decided to follow him. Through the bushes was a small clearing, where you found two smaller cats eating the food he had dropped.
All three of them were black from the tip of their tail up to their nose, but each one had a unique patch of fur. The first cat had a blonde patch around his neck that looked like a pair of goggles, the second cat had a patch of blonde around his face that looked liked glasses, and the third, a female cat, had a tuft of blonde hair between her ears. The first two had brown eyes, while the female had beautiful blue ones.
These two new cats were far more trusting than the first and came prancing over as soon as they saw you, rubbing against your legs and eating from your hand. Realizing that the smaller cats were safe around you, the first brought them to the edge of the bushes to wait for you each day.
You never once noticed the glowing yellow eyes watching you.
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
You stifled a yawn as you gathered your things, ready to head to the Sket Dan’s clubroom. You weren’t an official member, because Tsubaki refused to let you join, but the group welcomed you with open arms because you had been friends with Himeko since you were kids. This was yet another reason for the vice-president to scold you because he believed that the Sket Dan was just a waste of a clubroom.
As you headed down the hall, you felt as if eyes were staring holes into your body. The hair on the back of your neck stood on end as goosebumps erupted across your skin. You paused, glancing around the empty hallway, but you didn’t see anyone. You peered out the window and saw the three cats pacing in front of the bushes anxiously, but they weren’t looking at the school building.
You dug into your bag, pulling out the sealed baggie of dry cat food. ‘I’m sure the Sket Dan won’t mind if I’m a little late,’ you smiled, heading for the school exit. You made it halfway across the courtyard before the cats spotted you. They rushed toward you, but your excitement soon changed to confusion. Instead of rubbing against your ankles as they normally did, they tried to push your legs back with their heads. When that failed, they bit the back of your socks and tried to pull you back toward the school building.
You frowned at them. ‘Why are they acting so strange today?’
The bushes rustled to your left and all three cats stiffened, frozen in place. A gust of wind blew past you, leaves in shades of orange and yellow dancing around you as they were pulled from the branches above. A chill ran down your spine and the bushes shook again, more violently this time. Your mind was screaming at you to run, alarm bells screeching inside your head, but your legs wouldn’t budge. The cats jumped between you and the bush, fur standing on end as they hissed and growled.
Glowing yellow eyes pierced through the bushes, locking onto your own. Your body went rigid as a force slammed into you like a train. ‘What… is happening?’ A white-hot pain shot through your body as it fell backward, your eyes cast toward the overcast sky. You were out cold before your body even hit the ground.
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
Tsubaki Sasuke, vice-president of the student council, walked down the empty hallway on the second floor. School had ended and he wanted to make sure no students were loitering about doing things they shouldn’t. He glanced out the window, observing the dark clouds that covered the sky.
He frowned.
He had checked the weather report that morning and the day was supposed to be sunny with a light breeze. Where had the clouds come from so suddenly? He had a bad feeling creeping up the back of his mind.
Something caught his eye and he moved his gaze down, amber eyes widening in shock. As soon as he saw your body falling to the ground, he took off for the stairs, taking them several steps at a time. He slammed his body into the door, nearly falling on his face.
Thunder roared overhead, drowning out his hurried footsteps. He stopped dead when he reached you, his eyes wide. Your body was gone, but your clothes remained on the ground where you had fallen. Was he mistaken about what he had seen?
The three cats were pawing and meowing at the clothes and, upon looking closer, he realized that the shirt was rising and falling in time with something’s breathing. Gulping down his nerves, he reached out to grasp the hem of the shirt, slowly peeling it back. Beneath it was a cat, its fur as black as a raven’s feathers.
Tsubaki didn’t know what to think. He was sure he had seen you falling and your clothes were there on the ground. Well, he assumed they were yours but there was nothing unique about the uniform to confirm it as belonging to you. He considered ignoring the animal and continuing his rounds, but something held him back.
He placed his hands under the front legs of the cat, gently lifting it from the ground and cradling it in his arms.
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
You felt your body being lifted, rousing you from your slumber. Your eyes peeled open, meeting the confused amber eyes of your best friend. ‘What’s going on? Why does Tsubaki look so confused?’ you tried to voice your thoughts, but your words came out in a series of meows and mewls. ‘W-What the hell is this?!’
“He can’t understand you.”
You glanced down, seeing the three black cats sitting at Tsubaki’s feet. They were giving you sad looks. Certainly they hadn’t been the ones to speak… they were just cats!
As if sensing your thoughts, the female sat on her hind legs. “You’ve been turned into a cat like us!”
“H-How in the world…” ‘Am I dreaming?’
“Normally, it isn’t possible.” The second male cat spoke, his voice sounding almost synthetic. “However, the week leading up to Halloween is a strange time when the planets and stars align in a most magical way. During this week, the Nigrum Cattus Daemonium is able to enter the human world and collect souls for his army.”
“The… ni… nigrum? I’m so confused!” you wiggled in Tsubaki’s grip, holding your furry head between your paws. ‘Wait… paws?! I have paws?!’
Tsubaki watched in stunned silence as you seemed to converse with the three cats at his feet. He was confused as hell but he knew as soon as his eyes met yours that, somehow, you were the cat. But how was that even possible? He felt a headache beginning to form.
The second male cat went to repeat the name but stopped when Tsubaki stood up straight, taking you with him. You started to panic, claws digging into his chest from the sudden movement. He started toward the school and you scrambled to his shoulder, claws stuck in his shirt as you cried out, high pitched meows ringing in his ear. The three cats followed him quickly, each meowing over one another.
His eye twitched in annoyance at the noise and he paused, turning to glare at the three. “What?”
The three started to meow louder, gesturing wildly with their front paws. This only annoyed him further.
You facepalmed, hearing the three talking over one another until their words mixed into a jumbled mess. You tapped Tsubaki’s cheek with your paw and he turned his gaze down to you. You then pointed at the three before pointing to his other shoulder.
He frowned at you. “You want me to bring them with us?” you nodded and he turned his attention to the three before looking back at you and sighing deeply. “I’m going to regret this…” he adjusted you so he could wave at them. “Come.”
The three got angry, screaming in unison, “We’re not dogs!!”
But he ignored the furious meows and started toward the school again.
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
Yuuki Reiko was a second year at Kaimei High and she had quite a reputation since her appearance closely resembled the girl from the ring. She prided herself on being a member of the Occult Research Club and having vast knowledge about the supernatural. She had never had a run-in with the student council before, so when the vice-president appeared at the clubroom door asking for her by name, she didn’t know how to feel.
More importantly, she couldn’t understand why he had a cat hanging from both shoulders, one on his head, and one cradled securely in his arms.
Tsubaki’s lips were set in a thin line as his eyes scanned the dark room. The only four members sat around a round table covered by a black cloth. Red candles had been lit, standing in the center. Three of the members wore black robes over their school uniforms and strange-looking masks. This was yet another club that the vice-president deemed to be a waste of space.
The disdain was clear as day on his face.
“Yuuki Reiko, come with me,” he ordered, not giving her a chance to reply as he turned and left the room.
She glanced at her clubmates before silently following, her eyes resting on the black cats that hung from his body. He led her to an empty classroom at the end of the hall, setting you down gently on one of the desks near the window. The three cats jumped, sticking their claws in him simultaneously before landing on the desk beside you. Yuuki tilted her head as she stared at you, the intensity of her gaze making you sweatdrop nervously.
Tsubaki was chewing on his bottom lip thoughtfully as he watched you, his arms tense as he crossed them over his chest. How could he possibly explain things without sounding like a complete lunatic? Would she even believe him? What if she told everyone about it? He could picture the student body laughing and making fun of him as he walked down the hall during a patrol and it pissed him off.
“Why is Y/N-san a cat?”
He snapped his gaze to her, eyes wide. “W-What?”
She pointed at you and you tilted your head. “This cat is Y/N-san,” her gaze moved to the vice-president. “What happened?”
“I… I don’t know. I found Y/N like this.”
‘I wonder, can Yuuki understand me?’ you greeted her, asking how her day went, but she just tilted her head, her expression remaining blank. You sweatdropped, ‘Well, it was worth a try…’
“Is there…” Tsubaki paused, feeling silly about what he was about to ask. “Is there a… spell or something that will let us communicate with them?”
Yuuki hummed thoughtfully. “There may be a way, but I will need a day to prepare.”
He scowled, putting his hand on his hip. “You have until tomorrow afternoon.”
She nodded and left the room.
Tsubaki looked down at you, catching your eyes. He wasn’t looking forward to bringing four cats into his home, but he couldn’t leave you alone at the school. He’d much prefer just bringing you and leaving the other three behind, but he had a strong feeling you wouldn’t allow it.
Your tail curled around your body, ears lowered as a small meow left you. He didn’t know what you had said, but he believed that you were trying to apologize to him for the trouble. He reached forward, gently rubbing your head. His hand was warm and comforting, and you started to purr, rubbing your head against his hand.
He quickly looked away to hide his burning face.
───── ⋆⋅🎃⋅⋆ ─────
Tsubaki slowly pushed his front door open, ears perked up for any sound. Hearing none, he quickly snuck into the house, rushing up the stairs to his room. He sighed as the cats wiggled around in his arms, hidden by his blazer. Before they could scatter, he addressed them sternly.
“Freeze!” the four of you stopped, turning to look at him. “If you’re going to stay here tonight, there are some rules that you must follow. Failure to do so will result in you spending the night outside.”
As if to reinforce his point, a frigid blast of air came through the open window above his desk, making the four of you shiver.
He continued. “Number 1 – keep your claws to yourself. My furniture is not a scratching post. Number 2 – no knocking things over or breaking my stuff. Number 3 – do not use the bathroom in the house. Number 4 – no howling or meowing. Number 5 – you’re not to leave this room under any circumstance. Number 6 -”
The four of you sweatdropped as he continued to rattle on the rules you were expected to follow.
“Man, this guy has a stick up his butt,” the first cat said, scratching his ear with his back leg.
“Oh, we never introduced ourselves!” the female cat approached you, holding out her paw. “My name is Himeow! This idiot -” she motioned towards the first cat. “- is Cattun. And this one -” she motioned towards the second male. “- is Chwitch.”
You placed your paw on hers. “My name is Y/N.”
“Oi! Are you even listening to me?!” Tsubaki cried, making all of you jump in surprise.
When Tsubaki settled down in his bed, the three cats tried to curl up around him but he yelled at them, making them get on the floor. Before turning back over to face the wall, he caught your eye. You were curled up on the desk, ready to get some sleep. He waved his hand, beckoning you over. You tilted your head and he did it again. You jumped from the edge of the desk to his bed. He picked you up and brought you into his arms, his face burning as you started to purr in content.

The next afternoon, Tsubaki brought the four of you to the same classroom where Yuuki was waiting. On the desk she at lay a thick book, worn with age, a piece of the Larimar gem on a black rope, and a faded white cloth. Her hand was hovering over the gem as she read a passage aloud from the book, the words a language you had never heard before.
Tsubaki sat you on the desk beside her, the three cats jumping up next to you. He watched her unsurely, wondering how he had gotten himself into this mess.
Yuuki suddenly stopped, whipping her head in your direction. You jumped at the sudden attention and Himeow hid behind Cattun, muttering about how scary the girl was. Yuuki reached over, setting the crystal in front of you.
“Can you understand me?” she asked, waiting for your nod. “We must all touch the gem at the same time.” She placed her index finger on it and you followed suit with your paw. Cattun and Chwitch had to push Himeow forward because she was too scared to move.
Tsubaki’s eyes traveled across the group as you all gathered around the gem. ‘What the hell am I doing?’ his amber eyes met yours and he sighed, placing his finger beside your paw.
Yuuki nodded, glancing at the open book before reciting an incantation in the same strange language. You expected the gem to start glowing or make a sound, but nothing happened at all.
A moment of silence passed over the room.
“That’s it? How lame~” Cattun commented, closing his eyes and flicking his tail to show his displeasure.
Yuuki shrieked, eyes wide as she peddled backward. “I-I-It spoke!”
You blinked at her in surprise, looking between her and Cattun. “You can understand us?”
She nodded.
“It is you,” Tsubaki muttered under his breath as he stared at you. “What have you gotten yourself into, Y/N?”
You sat on your back legs, crossing your front ones with a huff. “I have no idea. It’s, um… Nigrum Cat?” you glanced at Chwitch for confirmation.
“Nigrum Cattus Daemonium,” he corrected.
“And what is that?” Tsubaki rested his hand on his hip.
“The black cat demon,” as Chwitch spoke these words, a crack of lightning split the sky, lighting up the room and making both Himeow and Cattun scream as they clutched onto each other. Thunder shook the windows as rain started to fall in large torrents from the sky.
“I’ve heard of that,” Yuuki commented. “A demon that seeks out humans to turn into cats to do his bidding.”
“Correct,” Chwitch said. “The gateway between this world and the demon world is opened during the week of Halloween. For seven days, he seeks out humans with an affinity for felines. If you meet his gaze, his power will turn you into a black cat, meant to spread bad luck and misfortune to all those you meet.”
Tsubaki’s eye twitched as he recalled the string of bad luck he had experienced since he had picked you up. His phone had cracked in his pocket; he dropped his knife during dinner and cut his finger; he slipped on a rag his mother had dropped in the bathroom, hitting his head on the counter; several of the keys on his laptop had broken off; he spilled his tea on his notebook; and finally, he broke his mom’s favorite antique china cup.
You glanced at him, feeling guilt settle in your gut. All of his bad luck had been caused by you.
“How do we fix it?” he asked.
“That is where the problem lies,” Chwitch responded. “Only true love’s first kiss can break the curse.”
“That’s too damn cliche!!” Himeow cried, gesturing wildly with her paws.
“Don’t panic!” Cattun yelled as he approached you, putting his paw over your shoulders. “Tell me, who are you in love with?!”
You were well aware of Tsubaki’s gaze on you and you shifted, pawing at the desk you sat on. “Umm… well…”
“Actually,” Chwitch interrupted. “That person has to be in love with Y/N, as well, or it won’t work.”
Cattun started to panic, running back and forth across the desk. “Crap! What do we do?!”
“But wait, there’s more!” Chwitch struck a pose, getting kicked my Himeow, who screamed, “This isn’t an ad, you idiot!”
“The curse becomes permanent at midnight on Halloween day.”
Tsubaki’s face drained of color as he looked at the clock hanging at the front of the class. “T-That’s in six hours!”
Himeow grabbed you, roughly shaking your body back and forth. “Who do you love?! Spit it out, Y/N!”
You pulled away from her, moving to sit on the edge of the desk as you looked up at Tsubaki, locking eyes with him. “I’m in love with you, Sasuke.”
His face burned bright red at the confession. Himeow and Cattun oohed and awwed from behind you, but when Tsubaki didn’t move, they started to panic again.
“He doesn’t love her back!”
“She’s gonna be a cat forever!”
Your gaze never wavered from his, not even when he stepped forward, his hands gently picking you up underneath your front legs. He hesitated, feeling his heart thumping loudly in his chest, before gently pressing his lips to your mouth. There was a loud pop as smoke engulfed your body.
A white-hot pain spread through your body.
The cats and Yuuki all leaned forward in anticipation as the smoke started to clear. Your body had returned to normal and you were straddling Tsubaki’s waist, your lips still connected. You smiled brightly when you pulled back, gently grasping his face.
Tsubaki’s eyes fluttered open, quickly widening as his face turned a bright red. A strangled noise caught in his throat as he slammed his eyes shut.
You tilted your head, confused. “What’s wrong?”
“Y/N-san, you’re naked,” Yuuki commented.
“Eh?” you glanced down, face turning red as you covered your body with your arms. You clambered off of him, watching as he stood up and left the room without a word.
The cats jumped down onto the floor in front of you.
“You’re back!” Cattun rubbed against your ankle.
“I’m so glad,” Himeow purred loudly, rubbing her head against your other ankle.
“Now you can feed us,” Chwitch commented before being smacked by the other two cats.
Tsubaki returned. Without looking at you, he handed you the uniform in his arms.
“Thank you,” you murmured softly, quickly getting dressed. When you were done, you approached him, arms wrapping around his waist as your head rested on his back. “Thank you for saving me, Sasuke.”
He turned in your grip, bringing you against his chest. ‘I’m so glad you’re back.’

Takarazuka (& adjacent) week-end roundup 8.2.19
Hanagumi will be re-staging Haikara-san ga Tooru for Yuzuka Rei’s Grand Theater debut in March 2020. I called this a bottle episode on twitter but no one else thought it was funny
The God of Stars shinko was Tuesday and it looked lit; also based on frequent choice of work-bound walking partners, classmates Maisora Hitomi and Amato Kanon appear to be BFFs. I’m glad they got to lead a shinko together before Maisora is no longer eligible
The Diamond as Big as the Ritz roles were assigned, obliterating my faint hopes that somehow Yuuki Shion had been left out of this small theater run by accident
Asami Hikaru and Asami Rei will be appearing in what looks like the Broadway version of Anastasia, thanks babe for a) doing a big musical for a change b) getting it out of the way before the Olympics
Ok, I swear I’m not even like, trying to be biased here with who makes it into my entirely subjective and undoubtedly incomplete news roundups, but Nanami-friggin-Hiroki just keeps doing stuff, lighting our preconceptions of what you can do with an OG career on fire and throwing them into the ocean. Ya girl literally held a virtual ochakai, dropped a horny music video with thought-provoking lyrics I intend to share at some point, and snagged her own brand new SkyStage segment despite being retired, ep 2 of which appears to be let’s discuss how real men are more disappointing than otokoyaku (submissions open!)
Meanwhile over on the other end of the spectrum, MiyaRuri is a cryptid, sharing news such as “I’m gonna be at a thing at a shrine in Himeji that I think will be airing on this obscure channel only in this one prefecture” exclusively in disappearing insta stories
Poor suffering Tsukishiro Kanato has been announced OUT of Buyokai but specifically IN I Am From Austria, despite the former starting 3.5 weeks after the latter (in all seriousness, I get it, buyo is specifically rough on the back/hips/etc). Last night I dreamed that I ran into Reiko, who had been gone so long her hair had grown past her shoulders and she was fully a Girl. I hope to god that’s not a premonition
Light of my life Kazuki Sora (& crew) danced to Uptown Funk in her Brilliant Dreams
And, of course, the long-awaited TRANSFER ANNOUNCEMENT (here in English)
My ENTIRELY PERSONAL, CORRECTNESS NOT AT ALL GUARANTEED transfer takes:
My stomach is still somewhere in my basement re: Hitoko. That’s... our baby (stop I know I married into Soragumi but 絆!絆!y’all). Taking personal feelings out of it, if they wanted a cleanup hitter of that generation to stabilize gutted Hanagumi in as few moves as possible, they did it. She is and has been the most—tbh, only—surefire, clear-path, absolutely tracked otokoyaku out of all the 96ths and 97ths. She’s talented in all areas, and she’s a Prince Charming type, which in my opinion makes her a chameleon and will allow her ultimately to mold well to Hanagumi’s vibe. She will absolutely give them the support they need. But keeping personal feelings in it... she’s been Yukigumi’s clear-cut future for like at least 7 years. I saw her first ginkyou solo live. I watched her go from scared to scary stage presence. I was so looking forward to her eventual reign. I know this stuff always happens, I know she’s still gonna get it, and she might get it sooner than she would have. But I’m real sad she won’t be getting it where I watched her grow up.
I knew Aasa had no chance if her competition was Hitoko. Now... hmm.
Kiwa is such a WHOOPS, we take that back
I’m not gonna pretend to know what they have planned for Aichan and Ayaki Hikari in Hoshigumi. From what I’ve observed, I’m not sure they’d have moved Kiki in the first place if they had confidence Aichan would make it to top stardom. Even if she’s not Coto’s successor, she’ll probably get all the nibante roles for the time being, and she’s someone who can sell the small theaters until an actual successor is decided upon. This move, out of all of them, makes me wonder if recently something somewhere didn’t go according to plan. I got the impression they offered Aichan the senka option as a courtesy, since at the time there wasn’t really room for her in a troupe; I’d be surprised if the PLAN was to move her out of it again so soon. Plan aside, I like her a lot and I’m glad she’ll be back on a regular schedule.
Only semi-related, back in the day I thought Aichan to Micchangumi would have been a genius move. They caught on a few centuries too late.
Ayaki Hikari (Hitoko’s classmate), someone who will be ken-10 in her first Hoshi Grand Theater and has only ever split a bow, is probably just moving out of the way, and the Hoshi producer liked her and took her. I think she’ll likely get better roles than she did in Hana, but I need to see some definitive proof before I’ll buy that they have any intention of actually pushing her.
Shidou Ryuu I think is also just moving out of the way—this is a 3-person Hitoko ripple effect. Why to SORAGUMI, the last troupe that needs bodies, who knows—although I guess that could always be “the last troupe that needs bodies, FOR NOW”. That said, I didn’t think the company considered Riku specifically someone who needs to be replaced, but if there’s one person in the whole company I had to put in the exact same category of person, it would be Shidou.
