Started watching What We Do in the Shadows and these are my initial thoughts/favourite parts.

Theme song slaps.

They're literally just a bunch of cats.

Pretty sure I'm related to an Energy vampire. May in fact be half one. Soz.

Guillermo as a concept is cracking me up cause he's just this little guy that wants to be involved in cool vampire stuff stuff but the vampires he's serving are a bunch of dysfunctional idiots that seem to be spending eternity devising ingenious ways of killing time.

Adding to that, I love the fact that he saw Antonio Banderas Interview as a kid and instantly though "If he can do it, so can I." and dedicated his life not to becoming an actor, but a vampire. Like....girl, same. lol

I'm just now realising the Collin Robinson is likely the one paying the rent.

Nandor is strait just a gothy himbo.

It's weird to recognise someone by how they move their hands but "Hi, Doug Jones."

The glitter portrait is genuinely really sweet and the proceeding conversation about how long Guillermo has been there is a really clever way o0f showing how time just doesn't matter to these creatures. They don't have to think about it. They don't have to worry about it. Basically I'm concluding that they're all suffering from a very severe case of executive dysfunction and I vibe with that.

Probably the same reason Nandor seems to view Guillermo as some kind of pet rabbit.

WINTER 2024 ANIME RECOMMENDATIONS

I counted and there are 8.5 blonde ladies in either a lead or primary love interest role this season (8 if you count the one whose hair is sometimes black as half of one). Do what you will with this information. I only share it because it’s something that was ticking me off that I noticed.

Anyway, we’re trying out a new format this season: Instead of only recommending anime we’re not familiar with, we’re each picking one we are familiar with and one we went into completely blind.

ACE’S RECOMMENDATION #1: MR. VILLAIN’S DAY OFF

After the deluge of isekai that try to teach the importance of having a healthy work-life balance by having the lack of one kill off it’s main character in the first five minutes of the episode, it’s really nice to have something that teaches the same lesson by choosing to model what one looks like rather than killing anybody. It’s also got a lot of pandas in it, which is always nice.

ACE’S RECOMMENDATION #2: SENGOKU YOUKO

Satoshi Mizukami seemingly can’t catch a break with anime adaptations of his manga: Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer sucked and this one is being seriously overshadowed by all the other really good and/or long-looked-forward-to adaptations this season. (Planet With was an anime first so it escaped the curse.)

Anyway, please watch this and have your friends watch this and buy the Blu–Rays and have your friends buy the Blu-Rays so my dream of a (good!!!) Spirit Circle anime can someday come true.

CHARLIE’S RECOMMENDATION #1: SOLO LEVELING

(for the sake of our more sensitive readers, actual screenshots of the anime cannot be shown at this time)

If you like Cheat System anime, and don’t mind “a bit” of graphic violence (read: so much. There’s just so much violence.) , give this a shot. It’s based on one of the Korean manhua that made the genre what it is today, and as far as I’m concerned, they’ve done a good job being faithful to their source so far - they didn’t even give them Japanese names, you guys.

CHARLIE’S RECOMMENDATION #2: A SIGN OF AFFECTION

It’s cute, and disability rep is always a bonus. I like how they animated the sign language, which seems fairly realistic to me, someone who speaks no sign languages.

FEN’S RECOMMENDATION #1: LOOKING UP TO MAGICAL GIRLS

This is a series I’ve been following since there were only five chapters out in the manga, so I would like to preface this recommendation by saying I’m the only one who’s actually right about it. I’m a veteran, a true soul who’s stuck with it for the past x years since it first released, and as such everything I say about it is valid and correct and anything people who aren’t as familiar with it says is complete horseshit pulled out of their ass. This is a factual statement.

Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, which has been translated for the manga as “Looking up to Magical Girls” (correct) and by vile HIDIVE as “Gushing Over Magical Girls” (bad and wrong) is a trashy, over-indulgent yuri series for weird perverts that is good, actually, (genuinely), and if the adaptation manages to capture Onanaka Akihiko’s remarkably deft hand in weaving the series’ fetish gags with the story’s genuine moments of pathos and surprising character depth then the anime will also be good, actually.

Dude trust me.

FEN’S RECOMMENDATION #2: METALLIC ROUGE

This is an anime original series about super fighting robots on Mars doing a hitman shit on android rebels for the government and also yuri, maybe. ACAB includes Rouge Redstar, watch this show.

BONUS RECOMMENDATIONS: DUNGEON MESHI AND ‘TIS TIME FOR “TORTURE,” PRINCESS

A recommendation to watch Dungeon Meshi is the most redundant thing on the planet this season, but even so you should still watch Dungeon Meshi. Also, Fen and I had a bit of a back-and-forth over who would recommend Torture Princess since it was something she was familiar with and something I had only heard of and I wasn’t going to recommend it because I thought she would and she apparently chose not to recommend it because she thought I was going to so take it as a recommendation both from someone who is and someone who isn’t familiar with Torture Princess to watch Torture Princess.

- Julia sleepy, Lana sheepy 🐑 they would be the first to fall asleep at a slumber party 😴

- a bit lacklester… 😅 love the hairstyle, we’ll work on personality, and character…

- my Diarmud was… decent. He doesn’t really get to shine as a unit or as a character amidst the other mounted sword wielders.

- love Lachesis -> love Nanna 💘 the bob haircut, the feather accent… SO CUTE!!! 🥰 I wish she promoted to master knight tho (such a cool class)

- I like the way Patty talks and her energy (reminds me of Dew), but some of the things she says are like, “Whoa, gurl. Too far. Back it up or pack it up.” 🙅‍♀️

- ngl, I was a bit disappointed when I saw Febail for the first time, as Brigid’s son I was expecting… I dunno, blinding beauty. I guess Patty doesn’t have her elegant look either.

- I LOVE THE ISAACH TWINS!!!!! 😍

When you meet them for the first time, I thought Scáthach was the calm, reasonable, more timid (possibly nerdy) twin, and Larcei the feral twin. But then it’s revealed that Scáthach is also a spicy boi, itching to fight, but he’s holding back because of Oifey’s orders. 🥺😩💕

I have listened to a total of 1 and a half episodes of season 2 of DnDads. Here a rundown of each character

Linc - Matt played Henry so well in SWAP he literally becomes Henry but a teenager. Literally. (But with actual good dads)

Scary - She was pissed she couldn't play Terry so she's playing Terry 2.0

Normal - Henry found his niche again and he's actually playing into it so well

Taylor - Glen tenfold, I cannot express the annoyance I have for this man but the urge to protect him like he's my little brother

BG3 Party Members First Impressions

I have only played this game for like 5-ish hours, here's my first impressions of all the party members:

Lae'zel: Most of the things out of her mouth thus far have been threats of violence and racism. I really wanna show her more of the world and hope she has an Albi the Racist Dragon arc. She called my Tav and those in the grove a teeth-ling, I find this endearing.

Shadowheart: Seems nice, she seems to like that I saved her life, it's about all she says at this point. She's very mysterious and I don't know much about her yet, I think that's on purpose. I've been told by friends building a relationship with her (friendly or romantic) takes time, and so I will be patient.

Gale: I pulled a nerd out of a rock. He's my friend now. He approved when I stopped one of the tieflings from killing that goblin prisoner of war, I respect this. He eats magic items, which I feel like I should be annoyed by, but I'm the kind of player that hoards every magic item I find even if I will never use it because "what if I need it", so it'll force me to actually make choices.

Astarion: I might have more of an opinion on him cause the internet won't shut up about him. He's my guy and I love him. I also hate him. I want him to be a better person so we can hang out and drink (actual) wine. I would never romance him in a million years, even if you paid me. I think he needs a hug. I wanna dangle him out of a very high window by his ankles and shake him till all his money falls out. If anything happens to him I will cry. Respectfully, improve yourself worstie <3.

Wyll: A handsome man swooped into a fight in front of the settlement gates with a cool one-liner and brandishing a sword. He seems noble and cares about doing good. He was teaching kids how to sword-fight. He wants to help people in a really rough situation. He apologized when he was wrong about Karlach. I have a feeling if I ever do anything fucked up he'll call me out on it. I am currently heart eyes over this man. I am bisexual as hell.

Karlach: I literally just found her. Haven't even had time to put her in my party. But, a big strong fiery (literally) barbarian woman who is initially misunderstood but seems really energetic and sweet? Probably got anger issues? It seems like she feels everything she feels dialed up to 11 and I love that. She's so hot (literally), and I am currently heart eyes over this woman. I am bisexual as hell.

Hope that was entertaining for all you folks who have finished the game!

came into migi to dali with no idea what to expect. a comedy like sakamoto? or something more creepy-eerie as all the promo visuals seemed to suggest?

turns out it's this

but no in all seriousness, it turns out migi to dali is very much both funny and creepy-eerie! and it's a combo that's working surprisingly well for me, the humor juxtaposed with a sense of foreboding really enhances that foreboding imo. i enjoyed the first episode and look forward to seeing the mysteries unravel throughout the series

although i haven't read the manga, the anime strikes me as a really solid adaptation so far. having a cast actually makes it a bit funnier to me, with the premise being "couple adopts one child, unknowingly gets pair of twins pretending to be one person" i just keep thinking aw well see your problem is you can't tell the difference between ayu and horie shun

big fan of that casting btw, like it's not unheard of or even that uncommon to have twins voiced by the same voice actor so the fact that they went with two for these twins in particular is just *chef's kiss* to me

This is a 'daydream/fantasy' version of Ferdinand, otherwise he would not be smiling, and his outfit is technically from after part 4 vol 9, (it was in the colour picture depicting a certain christmas tree passed out on the floor) but I thought it looked cool so eh.

Just kind of a 'how Elvira and Florencia see Ferdinand as 'unfortunately unavailable/ineligible (*cough- associated with the temple, and alas we both have husbands~ *cough) noble bachelor' who is truly a paragon of all that makes up a noble man, calculating, ruthless, handsome, a genius, expert social manipulator, plays and sings exquisitely,' etc. As opposed to how Rozemyne sees him, (I'll probably do a more in detail comic thingy depicting her perspective at some point), which I guess she'd say something like, 'constantly overworking no concern for his health kind of disaster with demon lord tendencies and incredibly high standards'.
