“We were meant to be”
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: English is not my mother tongue so please be nice.
Words: 916
Plot: you are a couple married
Pairing: Gojo x female reader
Theme: fluff, comfort
Your daughter was in her crib for bed but she wasn't quite asleep. She seemed to be staring at the ceiling, giggling and mumbling to herself. You leaned over and picked her up, cuddling the baby to your chest. She cooed in delight as she pressed her nose against yours, and put her tiny hand on your cheek.
“My angel” You smiled warmly at the little girl as your heart melted away from her cuteness. She’s so sweet, she’s like sugar. The most adorable tiny girl.
Satoru watched you from the bed, a silly grin on his face. His eyes twinkled as he watched you cuddle Yuki before you started to softly hum a lullaby. Your voice was so sweet that your daughter fell immediately asleep as you gently put her in the crib again. You looked back at Satoru and your eyes met: no words needed. You understood each other perfectly.
That's when you realized how lucky you were. It hasn't all been easy, mainly because of Satoru's recurrent absences due to missions and his responsibility as the strongest sorcerer, but you couldn't ask for more.
You weren't like him, you're only a mere human, and you never thought you'd meet someone like him. At the very beginning of your relationship, you were afraid of the reality of his world, of everything you couldn't see, and you found it hard to accept. But Satoru never gave up. He hasn't quit yet but the question has crossed his mind.
What if he stopped everything?
To live the simple, normal life he'd thought he could have with you? A family life, nothing more normal?
But you couldn't force him to quit, especially not only for you. Of course you would like him to stop everything, to stay close to you, morning and night, and never put his life in danger. But you had to trust him and you couldn’t make decision for him. After all, he was the strongest, and could single-handedly eliminate hundreds of enemies. And Satoru had promised you he'd always come back to you and now to your child.
You climbed into bed, curling up next to Satoru, and he wrapped his arms around you, holding you tight. He was smiling and so were you.
“Thank you, honey” You said almost like a whisper as your head was right on his chest.
"No love, thank you" Satoru chuckled as he pressed a sweet kiss on the top of your head. "Being here with you is all I've ever wanted. You don’t know how much I’m grateful to you"
Hearing someone like Gojo spoke with such affection as a father and husband was adorable. If this was what he's like with you, you wondered if he was ever this sweet as a person before all the hardships life threw at him, before he knew you. But that’s some things he never really talked about and you never forced him to do so.
He pulled you closer, still being careful not to disturb your son next to your bed. You snuggled against him, the warmth of his limbs filling you with peace.
Your daughter mumbled in her sleep as she hugged his blanket. Every now and then, a small coo came out as she shifted in her deep slumber, but for the most part, she seemed to be content. Satoru watched her carefully, feeling his heart swell with love and affection. And you already knew what he’s thinking of.
He looked down at you for a moment and smiled at you before leaning over and whispering in your ear. "Let's try for another one” He suggested.
You looked up at him and let out a chuckle. “You want another one?”
"Of course” He grinned. "We’re only in the beginning of thirties. We have plenty of time. There could be more little ones running around with Yuki in a few years. Can you imagine how cute that would be?"
He smiled, gazing down at your face with such adoration.
"Maybe even a boy next time so Yuki can have a little brother” He thought with a chuckle.
Your eyes shine at the thought. It would be so great to have a little boy too.
"But not yet" He said, smiling. “For now, let's enjoy our little girl."
He kissed you on the cheek and nuzzled his face against yours, his eyes twinkling with joy.
"My heart feels like it could explode” He whispered. "You make me so happy."
You smiled widely at his words and you chuckled. Marrying this man was definitely the best decision you could have made in your entire life.
"It feels like we've been together for ages already” He said softly, pressing a gentle kiss against your neck. "But it also feels like there's always something new to learn about you. I love that. And I can’t wait to learn more and more about you”
Satoru gave you a soft kiss on the cheek, then kissed you on the forehead. His affection was always so sweet.
“We were meant to be” He smiled gently as a tear of joy fall down your cheek.
It felt unreal to be loved this much. But it was the reality. It’s everything you’ve ever wanted. And If this is what your life is going to be like, you can't imagine how much you're going to love the next decades.

✨💞controversial jjk character ranking tier list💞✨
got some hot takes in this one that some of y'all are not gonna like... 👀 breakdowns below the cut
1. i, personally, am insane about them:
Tumblr media
megumi fushiguro, suguru geto, shoko ieri, kittycunt choso, junpei yoshino, yuuta okkotsu
2. best boy / best girl / loml sweet baby angel 💕🫰🏽✨:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yuuji itadori, nobara kugisaki, nanamin, aoi todo, higuruma, makin zenin, toge inumaki, yuki tsukumo, ijichi, miguel odoul, kirara hoshi, jogo, kusakabe, nitta, takaba, tall idol takada, tsumiki fushiguro, utahime iori, that sumo guy & that other guy with the sumo guy (i think)
this is a packed category. itadori & kugisaki are right on the cusp of "insane about them" and "love them a lot a lot a lot" ... tsumiki should be ranked a little higher. mimiko and nanako were not included in this template, but they would go here.
3. good, in a literary sense:
Tumblr media
satoru gojo, eso, mahito, naoya zenin, that guy megumi fought, toji fushiguro, mahoraga
so uh......toji should be higher. so should mahoraga. that's all i have to say 🙂
4. ...fine:
ino, kinji hakari, useless miwa, hanami, mai zenin, principal yaga, twink from shibuya (haruta??? apparently?), kashimo, uraume, sparky sparky boom man, that guy who throws his teeth, kechizu
Tumblr media
this is a category for characters I have a net "meh" reaction to. some of them would be in lower tiers if I didn't like their character design.
5. induces a complicated, quiet rage in me. so incredibly infuriating, yet also boring. meant to be sympathetic, yet i have no sympathy. i will not judge you for how you dealt with insurmountable adversity, but i do not like you:
Tumblr media
mechamaru, ui ui
this category was created specifically for mechamaru. threw ui ui in here too bc why tf not, he fits (most) of the criteria.
6. don't care:
Tumblr media
panda, hana/angel, noritoshi kamo (the younger), anime alcoholic zenin what's his name, dagon, nishimiya, principal gakuganji, plane hair girl, sky girl (ume? uro?)
listen..... don't shoot me. in canon....they are boring to me. i don't care about them. i don't care about their backstories, I don't care about their motivations. they are literally taking up space on my page/screen that could be dedicated to someone i give a fuck about. two of them made it out of the bottom tier by being hot.
7. i want to dip them in acid, coat them in pop rocks, then dip them in lava repeatedly:
Tumblr media
kenjaku, sukuna, tengen
...I think this is pretty self explanatory
8. literally so irrelevant i don't even know who you are:
Tumblr media
i could not list these names if i tried
---
mei mei was also not on this list. would probably warrant her own category ala mechamaru. something like: "girl, you are so complicated, and not in a good way" or "a very confusing mix of mindless attraction and disgust-fueled repulsion is waging war in my body and I don't know which side will win" or "i would pay 10,000,000¥ for you to go away... and/or step on me? + calling child services for your brother"
---
✨beloved mutuals & non-beloved strangers, feel free to yell at me about this in my ask box 💕🫰🏽✨

Theodore
"w-what do you mean no... you can't say no my sweet angel" he said softly now staring at you as you stared at him with eyes full of hate. He had you backed into an alleyway, your rejection caused him to lose it a bit so he ended up cornering you whole you two were out on a 'date'
"get away from me you freak!" You shouted trying to push him away, he doesn't understand he confessed that he loved you and you lashed out, why was this happening? He loved you so why weren't you obedient to him..you were supposed to be his submissive little spouse.
"stop it, please..angel I don't like this stop saying such hurtful things" he said softly as he covered your mouth with his hand while the other reached into his pocket. "Stop. Please stop struggling, You're behaving irrationally. You aren't mentally well you need me to take care of you" he whispered as he felt you try to kick him in the groin but he moved his hand from your mouth catching it only to hear you scream.
"SOMEONE H-" theo stabbed your side with a needle watching you wince from it before everything started spin as you started to become limp in his arms. "That's right angel, trust me. I know best"
Hikaru
"the fuck did you say bitch? Did your ugly ass say no?!" He snapped at you. He invited you to his house hoping you would accept his invite to stay the night and drink expensive wine clearly wanting to bring you to bed. He even went to touch you but you pushed his hand from your thigh.
You rejected him and he doesn't do rejection, you were his from the moment he saw you. Hikaru pushed you down on the couch his eyes spiraling with hate as he climbed ontop of you now choking you.
"you should be begging to be mine! Ugly bitches like you don't really have a reason to say no. I'm perfect so you must clearly be touched in the head or some shit, that's fine cause no matter what you're mine" he hissed out with a low snarl as he watched your face grow paler and paler as you clawed his arms trying to stop him but your vision got spotty
"that's right pig, just sleep."
Axis
Tears poured down axis' cheeks as he watched you kindly reject his confession that he poured his heart out just so you know how he feels. He painted you something that he had spent an entire month on and you just said no. Axis dropped the painting feeling his mental state just plummet as you walked towards the door to leave.
"please, don't leave... don't leave me alone.." he whispered out as he felt his entire body shake as his only thoughts were about staying with you. Axis completely broke down, pulling out a knife from his pocket and slitting his own stomach open causing you to turn around and rush to him.
"w-we need to get you to a hospital! You're bleeding so badly! Axis!" Your frantic screaming made him so happy as he leaned against you as blood poured from the fresh wound and he smiled as you huffed him close while calling for help, you're so warm and sweet to him
"if you leave, I'll kill myself y/n and it'll be all your fault" he whispered in your ear now clinging to you getting blood all over you as well as a weak soft laugh escaped him as you felt your blood run Cold.
Salem
You couldn't even reject him, the moment he saw you he had stolen you away. You woke up only to be tied up to a bed as salem watched you sleep. He grinned once you woke and licked his lips
"w-where am I? Please let me go!" You snapped and he tilted his head to the side like a confused child. "Go? Hmm go go go...nope!" He said happily before moving ontop of you and started to undress you but your thrashing around caused him to get annoyed
"don't make me eat you~" he sang out as he leaned down licking your neck, in his eyes you either become his lover or his next meal either way was good in his eyes. "Flesh Soo soft, yummy" he hissed out before biting your shoulder feeling you wince under him before he pulled back licking the fresh blood with a soft giggle.
"all mineeee~"
Prince
"you're kidding right..?"
His tone came off incredibly empty, he invited you on a date and you said no. He's been trying to get with you for months, doing it the right way but you still said no. Prince chuckled as he ran his fingers through his hair, this wasn't right..no no no he could get anyone he wanted so why were you so difficult to obtain.
"yeah, no I can't let ya just leave. So sorry" he said with a sweet smile as he walked towards you while you backed away. His eyes spiralled with insanity it was hard to see this was the same person as before laughing and joking with you
"sorry babe, but this is really gonna hurt but i promise I'll make it better" you felt your back hit a wall before prince punched you in the face making you feel pain before your vision got spotty.
"damn, did I hit you too hard? That's gonna leave a Mark" he mumbled as he shook his hand as you passed out.
Yuki
"oh, yuki. Why are you here?"
"date."
Yuki stood infront of your house eyeing you seeing that you were in pajamas which confused him since he swore you two had a date today. "Yuki, don't you remember..I said we should stay friends. You're great bu-" yuki shuddered at your words. No, that wasn't right you two were already dating and he wad supposed to take you on a date.
at least thats how he remembered it. You were his lover from the moment he saw you, you two started dating as soon as he met you. "No." He said softly as he stared at you blankly watching your face twist with confusion. "What do you mean no?" You stated only for him to step closer to you his hand pressed against the door preventing you from closing the door
"we have a date"he said softly in a tone of frustration as he calmly took off his scarf only to see your eyes panic. "Yuki, I said no" you stated firmly but when he reached for you, you of course tried to turn to run but he wrapped the scarf around your throat pulling both ends to choke you
"shh, just rest..kay?" He whispers out though as he loosened his grip he could only feel annoyance, why does this keep happening? Why can't you ever remember your dates with him? Oh well. He'll just have to use that drug to block your memories and try again..this time you'll say yes.
Rocket
"you're a great guys, but do you understand now...I see you as a friend" you said and rocket forced a grin before pulling you into a hug. You were so glad he understood and hugged him back only to feel him start to squeeze you, his large arms locked around you as you wheezed tapping his shoulder telling him to stop.
"y'know, snapping someone's spine is really easy I heard! I haven't tried but it must be easy yeah? So..how about that date?" He spoke in your ear with a cheerful tone.
"o...kay... please. " You wheezed out and he let go now scooping you up into his arms before he took off his bandana off using it to gag you.
"awesome!"
Scarlett
"I'm glad you understand so well scarlett, we are much better as friends" you said as the girl placed tea infront of you with a smile. She invited you to her place for tea after you rejected her confession. "Of course dear, some people aren't suited for each other" she said softly as she slipped her tea watching you do the same.
"and some people make mistakes, as humans we can get so confused we aren't sure what we desire" she stated calmly as she watched the homemade drugs she put in the tea work, you were sweating bullets and panting softly.
"oh sweetie, you dont look too well." She said with a smile as you laid back on the couch closing your eyes feeling everything spinning.
"I'll nurse you back to health my darling"
Yuuta & yuuji
Yuuta hummed as he buckled the gag around your mouth before pressing a button in the center of the ball gag hearing it beep. "Careful, if you try to release your teeth from that Ball it could explode would hate for you to lose your jaw" the older twin said before he kissing your temple as yuuji ran his fingers through your hair hugging you from behind.
"it's just until we can trust you my sweetheart. I mean you said no to our date, how cruel. So we just had to swipe you away and take you home"
You struggled lightly against the ropes as you sat in the chair but it was impossible. The two moved infront of you both of them holding hands as they stared at you.
"be our pet.." yuuji started with a smile
"...or die painfully" yuuta ended with an annoyed huff.
Rin
"I don't understand why you're crying, clowns are supposed to be funny." The male said as he placed the crown he made on your head, the intestines dripping blood on your face as you stared at your family that laid on the ground cut open.
Rin hummed softly unsure what it will take to make you smile until he took out a real heart before squeezing it so hard it squirted blood everywhere. "Y/n you make my heart burst with love!" He cheers out before hearing only your crying and screams which caused him to pout.
"yeah that was a bad joke, it's not even my heart. Hmm let's see, oh! I know!" He cheers now reaching into the body and grunting at he took out the stomach and showed it to you "I can't stomach being without you!" He cheers out laughing at his own joke.
Your screaming and sobbing was getting old now, the male sighs as he crawled towards you nuzzling his face against your stomach. "baby, im trying my best here. You have to work with me I mean you don't seem to be enjoying my show...tell me y/n what do you wish for me to do to make it better?"
"l-let me-"
Rin covered your mouth with his hand, the blood smell was making you dizzy and you started to cry more. "I can't do that my little star. You know I can't so stop asking" he hissed out before he pulled back and gasped with joy
"oh I know!" He said as he rushed off rolling a large ball covered in human skin before he hopped on balancing on one foot holding his arms out as the ball rolled. "Huh? Impressive right?" He cheers out only to sigh
"you're not being any fun y/n, you need to stop sobbing. It really was cute the first time but now it's annoying."

Thank you for requesting @otome-land 😘😘😘💕💕💕💕💕
IkeSen Lords x Pokemon
Nobunaga
First of all, he will name 6 of his pokemon with the name of his vassals, and MC.
The possibility for him to choose anything related to them is high. Nah. Knowing him he will make it possible.
Like.. Having Mankey (Hideyoshi), Dragonite (Masamune), Ninetales (Mitsuhide), Jigglypuff (Ieyasu) and Psyduck (Mitsunari).
And Torchic (MC).
"EXCUSE ME??" - MC
"It's adorable. Besides. It is a fire pokemon like you, my fireball. As I couldn't find pokemon based on lucky charm."
Also, named his rival as "Tiger Wannabe".
Favorite Pokemon - Ho-oh. Reason: Majestic and Legendary.
Masamune: Is it because you always say the word "Hooh?"
*Is jabbed hard on his waist by Hideyoshi*
Hideyoshi
Obviously will do a shopping spree on potions, defense items, power-up items, particularly on those things to take care of his pokemon's well being.
Gasp dramatically when his Pokemon's HP is less than 30%.
+Heavy breathing when they are poisoned / cursed / paralyzed / put on sleep powder.
"MY BABIES!"
Complains a lot about the main character's age.
"What kind of game that allows 10 year old children goes for his adventure A L O N E??"
Favorite Pokemon: Arcanine. Why?
Mitsuhide: LOYAL because he is a dog? Pfft-
"....*groans*"
Masamune
Relate himself to Lance.
Cause... Dragon Pokemon.
Name his rival "Ghey". Because "G*y" is inappropriate and he is lectured by Hideyoshi about names.
"Will you name your son like that?? Will you?? MC will cry!!"
"Psssh it's just a game~~"
"It's just a game?? Then is dating and marrying and having child with MC is a game to you??"
How did this escalated like that-- anyway-
Favorite Pokemon: Rapidash.
He really wish it exists so he can go for a Formula 1 riding. Horse version.
Mitsuhide
Was grinning the entire time of playing until Hideyoshi assume he uses hack in it.
"My my how silly of you, I am playing fair and square."
"Then care to explain WHY your pokemon is level 100???"
"I wonder. I don't understand modern things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯."
Yeah right.
His team is nothing but those of ghost pokemon, dark pokemon, and psychic pokemon a.k.a the pokemon that puts misery on their opponent.
His favorite would be Ninetails. Cause... Fox.
Ieyasu: I thought your favorite is Gengar. The grin is the same 😒.
Hideyoshi: Did you just name your rival as "Castle Hen"--
Ieyasu
Psssh.
He won't play this childlike game.
Also Ieyasu: His team are of those cute looking pokemon.
Instantly heal his Pokemon just like Hideyoshi.
"It's not that I care or anything-- they must stay strong in order to win. Hmf."
Have this certain happiness whenever he win against a magikarp with 1 hit-k.o.
*Points at Magikarp and show it to Mitsunari* "You."
Milotic is his favorite. He relate Milotic to his past of where its first evolve is weak and shunned, then grow into stronger pokemon once it evolved.
Meanwhile, Masamune: I see Seadra or Jigglypuff in you when you are angry though. HEH.
Ieyasu: ಠ_ಠ I hate you.
Mitsunari
The one who take his sweet time to grow his Pokemon.
Most probably need a month to finish it as he will read those walkthrough and tips and storyline behind each Pokemon to understand it better.
Also one of those who named his Pokemon after his fellow vassals, but those Pokemon will be a majestic and stronger ones.
Oh our dear angel (´;д;`).
Anyway-
Despite taking his time to play the game, he is always ranked no.1 thanks to his tactics and planning. There's no single loss in each of his battles.
His favorite Pokemon is Skitty. "Because I want Neko-san to be my pet, even in this world (❁´◡`❁)."
MC: HNNGGGHHH MY KOKORO.
Then Ieyasu: I don't understand why Psyduck is not your favorite. That is your twin, do you know that?
Mitsunari: But I don't have any siblings, Ieyasu-sama (´・д・`).
Kenshin
"......*glares*"
Shingen: There he goes again, glaring into his game as if he is the one who is battling someone.
Yukimura: Nah. If he does, he will stab them and become a Pokemon Master in 3 days.
"...Be quiet or I will Dragon Rage you both (눈‸눈)."
Sasuke peeks to Kenshin's favorite Pokemon, Kingdra. "I see that you are fond of this Pokemon, Kenshin-sama. Is it because you have the same color (Blue and Yellow)?"
"Hm. He is a majestic water and dragon type. And he kills in just one attack. Just like me."
Sasuke: Please refrain the word 'Kill'. That game is not rated R-18 you know.
Shingen: Kingdra? I thought you are a beedrill who likes to stab people-- *stabbed* H E Y
Shingen
Indifferent face to male NPC, and suddenly sparkles when he is met with female NPC.
"Ah, yes, Nurse Joy. Please heal my Pokemon as your name brings my heart with joy 😏😏✨✨✨✨."
Yukimura: Shingen-sama. If that is a pun, I want to tell you that I wish to reverse time so I could get out from this room.
Also Yukimura: Did you just put my name for your Piplup just because I'm Tsundere??
Sasuke: He didn't even deny he is a Tsundere.
"Now now Yuki, allow me to focus on capturing my favorite Pokemon. Ah, here comes Entei..! He is very charismatic, just like me 😏😏😏."
Kenshin: *Casually* I was confident you are like Jynx.
Yukimura
"Tsk. This Team Rocket is annoying. Why did they even choose that kind of name in the first place--"
Sasuke: Prepare for trouble, bro.
"...Sasuke stop."
Sasuke: And make it double, bro.
"Sasuke, we have discussed about this."
Sasuke: To protect the world from devastation--
"Sasuke, for the 157th time, STOP OAO! My Pokemon passed out AGAIN!"
Sasuke: ......
"....😒😒😒"
MC: *Skips into the room* Team rocket blast off the speed of light ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ!
Sasuke: Surrender now or prepare to fight (/OAO)/!
Both: Meowth! That's right ٩( ᐛ )( ᐖ )۶!
"...If only Moltres is here, I've already burn both of you like those chestnut buns ʕʘ̅͜ʘ̅ʔ.
Sasuke
+Also the type to name his Pokemon after his lord, bff, gf, and most importantly... Ieyasu.
...And it was Jigglypuff. Except the name is Ieyasupuff.
Kinda freeze when he have to battle NPC that has butterfrees. Poor Sasuke.
He have this habit of calling Pokemon with the names of people that has the same features too.
*Encounters Sylveon* "Oh. It's Yoshimoto-san." *Encounters Sharpedo* "*Gasp* Oh wait, it's just Motonari-san."
*Fights with Beedrill* "Kenshin-sama please don't poison sting me, I'm out of antidotes-- you just did. *sigh* As expected of you. No mercy indeed."
MC: Who is your favorite Pokemon, Sasuke?
"Hmm.. Staryu."
MC: Ah! I know! It can heal his own HP right? How convenient--
"Because he sounds like Ultraman and acts like Ultraman when it is injured. You know, the red thing on its center?"
MC: Ah.. Haaah. I see (´・w・`).

The Tiger and the Oda Princess Ch. 3
Chapter 3
It was the week of Shingen's birthday. My period had never come and my symptoms were still getting stronger. I was indeed pregnant. There were also new symptoms added, one of them was that my breasts had grown more tender...and boy was that a hard one to hide from Shingen.
I had finally figured out how I would give Shingen the news. I was going to tell him on our outing the day before his birthday. We were going to be staying the night at an inn. The same one we stayed at for our honeymoon, actually. It was perfect.
I had started on a little sewing project that I would have finished in time for our trip. I had some plans for what we would do during the day, planting hints all day and then I would give him the gift when we got to the inn that night.
I smiled as I worked on my little project. It was my first dive into the baby fashion world, but I knew it would be perfect. I kept picturing the smile on Shingen's face as I continued to sew. Yukimura had caught me falling asleep in the middle of my other sewing projects a couple of times, but luckily he hadn't caught me throwing up again.
Somehow I had managed to not throw up around Shingen. Though part of me wondered if he suspected something. He was very perceptive and attentive, especially when it came to me.
It was then that I heard Shingen's footsteps coming down the hall. I quickly tucked my sewing project away just before he could open the door. He eyed me suspiciously as he walked into the room. "What were you up to?" He asked.
"Just sewing." I answered.
Shingen walked over to sit down beside me. He then pulled me into his lap. "You're hiding something from me."
"Well...if you do remember correctly your birthday is coming up...is it too much for you to assume I am working on something for you?" I replied. As long as I told him the truth, I didn't have to worry about him digging too far into what I was truly hiding.
"You being by my side is gift enough." He told me.
I smiled as I wrapped my arms around him, resting them on his shoulders. "That may be, but I still want to make you something special. Besides, I know you're going to love this."
"I'll love anything you make for me." He said, placing a tender kiss on my lips.
Oh, you've no idea how much you're going to love this one. I thought, unable to hide my smile.
Shingen looked at me in the eyes. He lifted a hand and gently rubbed his thumb beneath my eye. "I hope you're not working too hard...you look tired." He told me, nothing but loving concern in his voice.
"Says the man who fought a war while facing a crippling illness." I retorted. "And acting like it was nothing."
"You just won't ever let me forget that, will you?" He asked, his tone teasing.
"And I'm not the only one." I replied.
"Thankfully an angel came to me and saved me." He said. "And has made all of my dreams come true in the process." He was then moving his hand around to the back of my head and pulling my lips to his.
I felt myself melting into him and our kiss. Oh how I loved his kisses. Just then there was a knock on the door.
"Pardon the interruption, Lord Shingen." Came the apologetic voices of one of his vassals.
Shingen and I both sighed as we broke our kiss, though he still kept an arm around me, holding me in his lap. "What is it?" He asked.
"A visitor has come for an audience with you and I believe he brings a gift and well wishes for your birthday." The vassal answered.
"I'll be there in a moment." He told his vassal, who bowed and then left, closing the door behind him.
Shingen sighed and rested his brow against mine. "I suppose we'll have to pick this back up later."
"Though I hate having to share you, I am glad so many people love you enough that they want to come wish you a happy birthday." I replied. "And we have the rest of our lives. I can share you for a little while."
"My angel is so gracious." Shingen replied, smiling at me. He was then giving me another tender kiss. "Just make sure you and Yuki aren't too busy planning my party that you tire yourself out before tonight."
"What...how did you...but we were so careful..." I sputtered, my eyes widening in surprise.
Shingen chuckled. "And that just confirms that you are." He told me, his tone teasing.
I narrowed my eyes at him, playfully. "You tricked me."
"I had my suspicions." Shingen replied.
"You're too smart for your own good." I teased. "And I always fall right into the palm of your hand."
"And you love it." He said, teasing.
"Only because I know how good you are with those hands."
We shared another kiss before pulling away from each other and Shingen headed out to meet with the visitor.
I was getting ready to pull my sewing project back out when a wave of nausea hit me once again. I was quickly grabbing a nearby pot and revisiting my lunch. That was of course the moment Yukimura chose to come to my door.
"Ava..."
"Just ate too much at lunch." I said, when I had finished.
Otsuna was then coming in behind Yukimura. "What in the world? My lady, are you alright?" She asked, motherly concern in her voice as she came over to kneel beside me.
"I'm fine." I replied.
"You know it was a couple of weeks ago I caught you throwing up before." Yukimura said.
"And I had just ate something that didn't agree with me that day." I lied.
"If you're sick..." Yukimura said.
"I'm not." I argued.
"Lord Shingen should know." He said.
"He will...just not yet." I countered.
"I'm going to go tell him." Yukimura said.
"No! I will tell him, just not yet, okay?"
Otsuna was looking at me, a knowing look on her face. She then looked at Yukimura. "Yukimura, let Lady Ava be the one to tell Lord Shingen. It is obviously important to her." She told him.
Yukimura seemed conflicted for a moment before letting out a big sigh. "You know, if you're trying to wait till after his birthday because you're afraid of ruining it, you really shouldn't. You know he just wants you to be healthy...we all do."
I gave Yukimura a smile. "Just trust me on this? Otsuna clearly does."
He sighed again. "Alright, but you rest. I'll work with the maids and vassals on finishing up the preparations, alright?"
"Deal." I agreed.
He was then turning to walk out the door. Otsuna grabbed the pot from me and took it out to be cleaned. She returned a bit later with a cup of cool water and a rather delicious smelling soup. "Here, this should help." She said.
"Thank you." I told her.
"You're with child aren't you?" Otsuna asked me.
I nodded. "Yes...I've known for a while now. I just wanted to wait till Shingen's birthday to tell him. I thought it would be a nice surprise for him."
Otsuna's smile grew and I could see the genuine happiness on her face. "This is wonderful news!" She exclaimed. "And yes, I am sure Lord Shingen will be excited to hear it. How do you plan on telling him?"
I smiled and then reached for my sewing project. "I am making this and I plan to give it to him the night before his birthday when we are at the inn."
"Oh, how cute. That is an adorable idea." She gushed. "And don't worry, I will help you keep this surprise a secret. I know he's already found out about the party, but at least we can keep one surprise left for him."
"I really appreciate that."
"You should eat this soup. It has a mixture of herbs that will help settle your stomach. It always worked well for Lord Shingen's mother. I made it for her every day while she was pregnant with him."
"Thank you."
Otsuna made me the herb soup mixture every day and it really did help settle my stomach. I wasn't exactly sure what was in it, but I was very grateful. I finished my little sewing project the day before our trip and I wrapped it in some cloth and tied it closed with string. It was small enough that I was able to tuck it in the folds of my kimono.
The morning of our trip arrived and Otsuna made me the herb soup mixture for breakfast and gave me a packet of the herbs to mix into my food at the inn, should I feel like I needed it.
Shingen and I were on his horse, Yukimura, Otsuna, and a few other vassals were seeing us off. "Have a safe trip." They wished us.
"And have lots of fun and rest and relax...both of you." Yukimura said, eyeing me in particular. He still didn't trust that I wasn't sick.
"We will." Shingen replied. "Are you ready, Ava?"
I smiled up at him. "Yes." I answered, leaning into him a little more.
As we rode off, I could see Yukimura speaking to Otsuna. I wasn't able to hear their conversation, but I was later told about it.
"You really think she's okay for this trip?" Yukimura asked, looking at Otsuna.
"Yes, she is perfectly fine. Just trust me." She said, smiling happily.
Shingen and I made our way through the forest and to the neighboring village. "So, I know you have some things planned?" Shingen asked, looking at me as we approached the village. "What is first on the list?"
"I was hoping to stop at that tea house. I've been craving those sweet dumplings they had there." I said, dropping my first hint.
"I like the sound of that. Enjoying sweets with my sweet." He said, kissing the top of my head.
We soon arrived at the village and took the horse to a stable we had been able to rent for the trip. We were then walking to the tea shop and sharing those sweet dumplings and the delicious tea.
Afterwards, I led Shingen to a small stage that was set up in the town. There was a group of children putting on a play. "They are quite lively and cute." Shingen said.
I smiled. "Yes, I heard about this and I thought it was something we might enjoy watching."
Once the play was over, we just walked around the village, taking in the sights. There were children everywhere, running around and playing. Some were even being chased down by their mothers for bath time or other such activities that the kids did not want to do.
I smiled fondly as I watched them all. "I can't wait." I said, quietly.
Shingen looked at me. "What was that?" He asked.
I gave him a smile. "It's a secret." I answered, bringing a finger to my lips.
"I have ways of getting those secrets from those beautiful lips of yours." He replied, playfully.
"You'll just have to wait." I told him. This was my final hint of the day.
"You plan to tell me this secret soon then?"
"Yes." I answered.
He pulled me close then and kissed me gently on the lips. "I look forward to it."
We were soon heading to the inn and settling into our room. Once we were in our room, Shingen turned to me, a devilish grin on his face as he put an arm against the wall and leaned into me. I smiled as it reminded me of our first day together. He lifted his other hand to cup my cheek. "Now, how can I get my princess to share her secrets?" He asked, his tone teasing and seductive.
I gave him a coy smile. "Hmm...I was planning to just tell you in a bit, but I'm tempted to see what you'll do." I replied.
Shingen smiled as he leaned in closer, heading for my ear.
It was at this moment, my nausea had finally decided to hit me. No! No! No! Not now! I thought. We've made it this long without Shingen seeing this!
Shingen noticed the shift in my expression and pulled back. "Ava?"
I couldn't answer, the bile was already rising to the back of my throat. I reluctantly ducked under his arm and headed for the adjoining room to ours that was used as a "wash room" and found an empty basin to empty the contents of my stomach into.
Shingen was right behind me. I felt him gather my hair into his hands and hold it out of the way. Once I had finished he was grabbing a hand towel and dampening it. Then he was pulling me into his arms and patting my face with the towel.
I had spent the last couple of months trying to keep him from seeing this, but it was nice to have him here taking care of me. I rested my head against his chest. "Are you alright, my love?" He asked me, concern coloring his tone.
I nodded. "Yeah."
We stayed there a few more moments before he picked me up and carried me back to the room. He laid me down in the futon and then went to fetch a cup of cold water for me from the inn keeper and to get the basin cleaned up.
"If I had known you were feeling sick, we would have stayed home." Shingen said to me as he sat beside me in the futon.
I gave him a small sheepish smile. "I've been doing my best to make sure you didn't find out."
He quirked a brow at me. "If you were worried about ruining my birthday..."
Before he could finish that sentence I was shaking my head. "That's not it." I told him. I was then fishing the small package out of my kimono and handing it to him. "I know it's a little early, but I think if you open this, you'll understand."
"How does a birthday present have anything to do with my beloved feeling ill?" He asked me, his eyes curious.
"I've been dropping hints all day." I told him. "Just open it."
He untied the string and began to open the cloth. When he did, he was holding up the tiny pair of booties I had made. His eyes widened in surprise and then he looked at me. "You're pregnant?" He asked.
I nodded, smiling. "Yes."
A huge, unabashed, truly happy grin came to Shingen's face. He was then reaching over to me and pulling me into his arms. "You really must be a goddess for making all of my dreams come true." He told me, before showering my brow, cheeks, and nose in kisses.
I couldn't help the giggle that escaped my lips nor the joy that I felt. I was having a child with the man I loved and he was overjoyed at the thought, too. "So, is this the best birthday present ever or what?" I asked, teasing.
Shingen smiled. "Every day and every precious moment with you is the best gift I have ever gotten. Though this is definitely the happiest I have ever been for my birthday."
"You always say the sweetest things." I told him, as I leaned into him, once again resting my head on his chest.
"You said earlier you were trying to keep me from seeing you sick...how long have you known?" He asked.
"A little while." I answered. "I...I was late a couple of months ago and I wanted to skip another one before I would say for sure I was pregnant...I also figured I'd make sure of all the symptoms before."
"So...you've been suffering all this time?" Shingen asked me.
"I just...I wanted to be sure before I told you...if I was wrong I didn't want you to be disappointed."
Shingen let out a sigh. "Ava..."
"But then by the time I knew for sure it wasn't that far from your birthday, just a couple of weeks. So, I wanted to surprise you with the news."
"I suddenly regret being so busy these last weeks with the negotiations." He said. "I was so busy I didn't even notice my wife wasn't feeling well."
"To be fair I hid it very well." I said. "Though I do think I've worried Yukimura."
"Yuki knew?"
"He caught me getting sick a couple of times when we were meeting to plan your party." I answered. "But he just thinks I'm sick and not telling you because I don't want to ruin your birthday."
"So you really have suffered alone in this?"
"I did want you to be the first to know...though Otsuna figured it out and has been making me an herbal remedy that has helped. She said she gave it to your mother when she was pregnant with you."
"She would know everything." Shingen said with a nod. It was then that he began to think. "And now I don't know why I didn't see it before."
"What do you mean?"
"The foods you've been eating have been lighter...you haven't been eating as many sweets. You haven't had any sake...and your breasts are tender, aren't they?"
"So you did notice that?"
"I just can't believe I didn't put it together."
I let out a small laugh. "I just can't believe I was actually able to keep it from you for this long. Between how smart you are and how easy to read I am...and how excited I have been. I've been imagining every day the look on your face."
Shingen shook his head a look of love and happiness on his face. "Just...damn." He said before pulling me in for a deep kiss. In the kiss I could feel his love, his passion, and his joy. Everything he wanted to communicate to me, was in that kiss.
I poured my own feelings into the kiss, wrapping my arms around him. He soon had me back on the futon and was undoing my obi. We spent the evening celebrating our love and joy making love.
Back at Tsutsujigasaki Palace...
Kenshin and Sasuke had arrived an hour or so after Shingen and Ava had left. "I'm surprised we were able to pull this off without Lord Shingen finding out." Sasuke observed as he began helping to set things up.
"Well about that..." Yukimura said.
"You mean to tell me the master of spies was able to find out?" Sasuke asked.
Yukimura nodded. "Yeah, he wouldn't say who spilled the beans but I'm pretty sure it was probably Ava."
Sasuke nodded. "She does have a hard time keeping secrets."
Otsuna smiled as she heard the boys talking about Ava. She had a big secret she was managing to keep from them all.
"Though I imagine part of her reasons for not being able to keep it secret is she's been keeping something else secret." Yukimura said.
"Ava, having secrets from Shingen?" Kenshin asked, joining in on the conversation, though he still did his best to look bored.
Yukimura nodded. "Yes, she's been sick."
"Sick?" Sasuke asked, concern evident in his voice.
"Yeah, just a couple of days ago, I went to talk to her about the party and she was throwing up."
"Perhaps she had eaten something bad? Or too many sweets trying to keep up with Lord Shingen?" Sasuke suggested.
"Or drank too much sake? She strikes me as the type who wouldn't be able to hold her sake that well." Kenshin added.
Yukimura shook his head. "No. I found her throwing up a couple of weeks ago, too. She mentioned the food then, but I know she was lying. She wouldn't let me tell Lord Shingen either, saying he had too much other stuff to worry about. And I know she didn't want to say anything now because she doesn't want to ruin his birthday...but she'll ruin it by not telling him."
Sasuke nodded. "Maybe when they return tomorrow we can convince her to tell Lord Shingen what is going on."
"Oh, I think she is probably telling him now." Otsuna said.
"What?" Yukimura asked. "And don't act like that. You've been helping her hide it these last few days."
"Because I know what she's hiding." Otsuna replied. "Trust me, Lady Ava is well and I am sure our lord knows now what ails his wife."
Kenshin narrowed his gaze as he looked at the woman. His eyes then widened in understanding. "You don't mean..." He asked trailing off.
Otsuna saw the understanding on Kenshin's face and nodded. "Yes, exactly."
Kenshin shook his head. "Well, it's not that surprising given how they are." He muttered.
"What are you talking about, Lord Kenshin?" Sasuke asked.
"If you two can't figure it out, I'm not spelling it out for you." He was then stalking off to the room he would be staying in.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Yukimura asked, looking at Sasuke.
"Just that you two have a lot to learn and have such thick skulls." Otsuna answered. "Now come on lets get back to work. We have a banquet to prepare for and lots of celebrating to be done tomorrow!"
The next day...
I awoke to the early morning light streaming in through the open window and the cool December air on my skin. Though it was starting to get chilly, I was nice and warm all snuggled up in Shingen's arms in the futon.
"Good morning, my princess." He greeted me, smiling.
"Good morning and happy birthday." I greeted him back.
Shingen smiled as he pulled me close for a tender kiss. "I think you being the first one to wish me a happy birthday is one of my new favorite things." He said. He was then pushing the futon cover away and leaning down t kiss my belly. "And good morning to you, too my littlest love."
I felt myself gushing internally at the way he spoke to the child I carried. I let out a happy "squee" noise.
Shingen looked up at me, smiling. "I really enjoy all of the sounds you make."
"I'm just so happy." I told him, feeling my cheeks flush. "Besides, the way you just talked to our baby...it just...it was adorable."
"You're the adorable one." Shingen said, kissing my brow.
I giggled as I snuggled closer to him and buried my face in his chest.
"It is a shame we only had the one night here." Shingen mused.
I nodded. "Yes, but we have a party to get to for you today."
"True...but I'd rather spend my birthday here with you." He replied, his fingers tracing from my cheek, along my, jaw and coming to rest under my chin before pulling my gaze up to meet his. He was then kissing my deeply.
I quickly melted into the kiss and his arms. I swear, I'm powerless to this man and these lips. I thought to myself. I found myself laughing as we pulled apart.
"Hmm...my angel laughing after a kiss. I am not sure how to feel about that."
"I was just thinking."
"About what?"
"Wondering how I ever resisted you before when we first met." I answered him. "If I had known then just how good you were..."
Shingen couldn't help but to laugh with me. "It's all worth it to have ended up here with you now." He told me once he had finished laughing. He then began to stroke my hair. "Though if I had known then just what was possible, I would have tried harder to win that bet sooner."
"You mean you weren't giving me every trick you had up your sleeve?" I teased. "I mean you even brought out a bear cub on me."
"And Koro almost got you, too." Shingen teased back.
"To be fair, I was probably smiling internally...and also swooning a little."
"Swooning, you say?" He asked, an eyebrow raised.
"That was the first time I'd seen you doing your carpentry...I found the sight very attractive...nor had I ever been jealous of a piece of wood before."
Shingen chuckle. "So that's why you enjoy watching me work when we work on our projects together?" He asked.
I felt my cheeks reddening. "Something like that."
"I love you, Ava."
"I love you, too Shingen."
We were then heading for a kiss when I felt my stomach begin to churn. "Hold that thought." I said, bolting up from his arms and the bed, heading for the wash room again.
Shingen followed me and held my hair back once again. And when I had finished, he was caring for me, with a damp towel and cool water. "Sorry." I felt myself saying.
"You have nothing to apologize for my love." He told me. He was then lovingly placing a hand over my belly and kissing the top of my head.
Shingen held me for a while, stroking my hair while I rested my head on his chest. When the sick feeling finally passed we got up and began to get ready. I put the herb mixture Otsuna had made for me in my breakfast the in keeper had prepared for us and that seemed to settle my stomach.
We were soon on Shingen's horse, heading back home to Kai. I sat in the saddle in front of him, between his arms. While I knew how to ride a horse and was even pretty good at it, I really enjoyed riding with Shingen.
"What is my beautiful goddess and mother of my child thinking of?" Shingen asked, gazing lovingly at me.
"Just how much I like riding with you." I answered. "I know I can ride by myself, but I prefer riding with you."
"You know, when we first came back to Kai and I started showing you around, I couldn't help but to think how much I enjoy traveling on horseback with you." He said. "It's nice to know you enjoy it as much as I do."
"Any time I get to be close to you, I enjoy it." I replied.
Shingen gave me a tender kiss then. "If it weren't starting to get too cold, I'd say we need to take a detour again as we did when returning from our honeymoon."
"It is a bit chilly." I agreed. "Though I don't think I'd feel the cold."
Shingen hugged me tighter to him.
I leaned into him, nestling into his embrace. "But we do have your party to get to. I think Yukimura might hurt us if we were late...especially since I'm the one who helped him plan it."
Shingen laughed. "You're probably right...and I am excited to share our news with everyone."
I smiled. "Me, too." I said, my hand going to rest on my belly.
Shingen placed a hand over mine, while keeping the other one on the reins. His gaze was warm and loving. "I still can't believe I didn't see it before. You do have that glow."
I giggled. "It's not like it's obvious yet."
"I'm looking forward to when it is." He said. "You're already adorable...you're going to be even more so." He was then nuzzling the top of my head in affection.
"I don't know about that..."
"It is a good thing for you, I do know." He replied. "I think you're going to be so cute that I will have to keep you pregnant often."
I laughed and felt my cheeks reddening. "Well, given how much I enjoy the activity that led to me getting pregnant...I can see that happening easily...however, let's just see how this first one goes."
Shingen kissed my cheek. "I love you, Ava."
"I love you, Shingen."
We were soon returning to Kai. Throughout the city everyone was lined up and wishing Shingen a happy birthday. It made me happy to see how all of his people loved him. We arrived at home. After taking the horse to the stables, we walked towards the castle, Shingen keeping an arm around my waist and holding my close.
He leaned over and kissed me.
I smiled up at him. "And what was that for?"
"Do I need a reason to kiss my wife?" He replied. "Though it's all because I can't help myself when I am around your beauty...or when you make me so happy."
"You know you make me happy, too Shingen."
"And to think there was once a time when you wouldn't have dared utter such words or share that beautiful smile with me."
"You definitely made it hard for me."
We were stopping and Shingen was pulling me into a deep kiss. When we parted, he rested his forehead against mine, still holding me close. His gaze was locked on mine. He lifted a hand to cup my cheek. "I am so truly happy to have you...to share my life with you...and I can't wait for our baby to get here. Another adventure I am looking forward to sharing with you."
I smiled as I returned his gaze. "I was just thinking the same thing."
"Here they are!" A familiar voice shouted, pulling us from our own little world we had been locked in.
We turned to see Yukimura standing there looking at us. He had called over his shoulder and Sasuke came with Kenshin not far behind him.
"How can you two have gotten worse?" Yukimura asked, looking at us.
"You should have seen them in our time." Sasuke remarked.
"Yuki, I have failed in your education if you think there is anything wrong with showering the woman you love with affection. Not to mention it is my birthday. Shouldn't I get to choose how I celebrate?"
"No because if it were up to you, you two would be locked up in your bedroom." Yukimura replied.
I felt my cheeks reddening.
"There is something seriously wrong with all of you." Kenshin said with a bored sigh.
"Says the man with even more serious issues than me." Shingen countered.
"Can we all just go inside for the party?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
After a few more moments of the back and forth, we all headed inside. Shingen and I went and changed for the party and then joined our friends in the main hall. We took our seats and trays were brought in. Shingen's tray was of course piled high with sweets.
Otsuna made sure to pile my tray with plenty of light food, including my soup. Kenshin had a tray full of sake and pickled plums. I was so grateful. The food and the sake began to flow, and everyone was having a good time. Some of Shingen's vassals made toasts to him.
I could feel Yukimura and Sasuke watching me. Yukimura had to have told Sasuke about me getting sick and they were both watching for signs of me getting sick again.
After a few more toasts, Yukimura stood up to give a toast. "Lord Shingen, I just want to say what an honor it is to celebrate your birthday with you this year and how happy I am that you'll get to have many more. You may be a pain, but I am glad to have you as my lord."
Shingen smiled. "Awe, Yuki I am touched." Shingen said. "Now if only you can learn to speak to women so nicely."
I giggled and then playfully swatted Shingen on the shoulder. "Come on now, he said something nice. You can't just let it go?"
Shingen smiled at me. "Of course not. I can't give up on Yuki." He said. "I only want him to learn how to talk to women so he can one day experience the same happiness we have." He was then wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me close, kissing my cheek.
"I swear, you two really are worse." Yukimura said. "What happened on your one day trip...wait never mind, I don't want to know nor do I need to know."
Shingen looked at me then. "You think it's time?" He asked.
I nodded. "I think so."
Shingen then stood up, commanding the attention of the room...not that my attention ever really left him to begin with. "First I want to thank all of you for coming to celebrate my birthday. It means a lot to know that you're all happy to celebrate my life." He began. "And this birthday is a special one. For so many special reasons...all of them thanks to my lovely wife, Ava. And just when I think she can't give me anymore, she gives me yet another wonderful gift. Last night, she gave me the news that we are expecting our first child."
I was pretty sure I heard Yukimura and Sasuke's jaws hitting the floor. There were cheers throughout the room from the rest of the vassals and the maids were squealing with delight at the thought of having a baby in the castle once again. Kenshin just sat in his seat, popping another pickled plum into his mouth.
"So...that's why you were sick?" Yukimura asked, looking at me.
I nodded. "And now you know why I didn't tell you. I wanted Shingen to be the first to know."
"Second really." Otsuna said with a wink. "But I've just been around long enough to know these things. Not to mention I have been so looking forward to this day. I've been watching you for signs for a while."
"I think I can forgive you knowing first...especially since you figured it out." Shingen said to Otsuna with a smile.
"Congratulations Lord Shingen and Ava." Sasuke said, giving us a small yet happy smile. "I think you'll be wonderful parents."
I smiled. "Thank you Sasuke."
Shingen was sitting back down and pulling me over into his lap. "I am certain Ava will be an amazing mother." He said, kissing me on the forehead. "And I am excited to see how adorable she'll look." He was then placing a loving hand on my belly.
I felt my cheeks reddening. "Shingen..."
"Do you have nothing to say Lord Kenshin?" Sasuke asked, looking at his liege lord.
"Only one thing." Kenshin said. "Shingen you better have a made that a son. I will need a worthy rival in the future. You're clearly no fun to fight any longer."
Shingen laughed. "I thought you missed fighting me."
"Yes who you used to be. I don't think you'd be any fun for me any more...unless of course I took Ava hostage."
"No one is taking me hostage. Once was enough." I said.
"Look how good that turned out for you, though." Shingen said with a playful smile.
"Yes, but that won't happen again."
"Anyway Kenshin, you may just be out of luck on having a future rival. I am hoping for a girl who looks just like her mother." Shingen said looking at Kenshin.
"I don't know Shingen...having a boy who looks just like his father wouldn't be so bad." I said, smiling at my husband.
"Maybe you'll have twins." Sasuke said.
I shot Sasuke a glare. "Don't you dare wish that on me! One at a time!"
"Twins could be fun." Shingen mused.
"Says the one who doesn't have to be pregnant or give birth." I replied.
"That is a fair point." Shingen agreed, still a playful smile on his face.
"Well, this at least explains why you two seem worse than usual." Yukimura spoke up.
"Of course, there is no greater joy than starting a family with the woman you love, Yuki." Shingen said. "Nor is a woman more beautiful than when she is with child."
"Really? I think she looks worse, with those dark circles she's had under her eyes and all." Yukimura replied.
"You know I may be a pacifist but one of these days I will probably hit you, Yukimura." I found myself saying.
"There's no need for you to do that, my love." Shingen said. He was then reaching over and smacking Yukimura on the back side of the head. "That's what I am here for."
I couldn't help the giggle that escaped my lips.
Yukimura just glared at us, but there was a smile on his face. "Someone has to be honest with her."
"I am always honest with my goddess." Shingen replied. "I can't believe I failed so miserably in your education though." He added this last part with an exasperated sigh.
"Hey, I know all I need to know."
"Except you have no tact." I replied.
Shingen smiled as he patted my belly. "Well, if this is a boy, I won't fail with him."
"In that case I hope all you have are girls, Lord Shingen."
"Oh, I would love that." Shingen said. "Of course, I would have to teach them how they are to be treated."
"If we have a girl, you'll have her so spoiled no man will ever be able to measure up." I said.
"How is it you always see through my plans?" Shingen asked me.
The party went on for a while longer. Everyone was happy for us, congratulating and toasting us and wishing for a healthy baby and an easy pregnancy for me. I was starting to feel utterly exhausted when I could normally stay up a while longer, enjoying the festivities.
I glanced at Shingen, who was having a conversation with one of his vassals. He looked to be having a great time still. If I could just make it a while longer, he is enjoying his party. Or maybe I could find a way to sneak out. I knew if I told him I was tired, he would go with me. I wanted him to stay and enjoy this. He deserved it and it had been a long time since he could truly celebrate his birthday.
It was then Shingen was excusing himself from the conversation with his vassal. He was then standing up. "Well, everyone I think it is time to bid you all goodnight. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for this celebration. Stay and enjoy it as long as you like. It truly means so much to me that you all came to celebrate this day."
Shingen was then offering me his hand. I accepted and allowed him to pull me to him. He wrapped his arm around my waist and we exited the room together. As soon as we were out in the hall, he scooped me up into his arms.
"Shingen?" I asked, looking at him.
He smiled at me and kissed my brow. "You looked like you were about to fall over in there." He told me. "You're already so tired, I didn't want you to completely exhaust yourself walking to our room."
"You could tell?" I asked, feeling my face flush.
"You have nothing to be embarrassed about, my angel." He told me.
"I should be used to this...considering how attentive you are." I told him. "I guess since I was able to keep one secret from you I was getting overconfident."
Shingen chuckled and kissed my forehead again. "Your face is my favorite to read."
"You know...I'm not that tired that I can't walk to our room."
"I know." Shingen replied. "But you've been hiding how terrible you've been feeling from me in order to keep the surprise...I have a lot of time to make up for in caring for you."
I felt myself melt at his confession. "Shingen..."
We were soon in our room. Shingen set me down in the futon. Before I knew it, he was getting my night robe for me and helping me change. I wasn't sure why, but having him help me change for bed felt more intimate than it should have. I felt my cheeks reddening.
"What is it, my princess?" He asked me, cupping my face between his hands.
"I just...I...can dress...myself you know."
"I know." He told me. "But as I already said, I want to take care of you." He was then placing a gentle peck on my lips. "You've been feeling sick and tired all of this time and I haven't been there for you..."
"Because I was trying to keep it a surprise." I said.
"I know...and it is the best surprise." He told me. "But you suffered through all of that for me. If I would have known, I would have been there for you through every second of it...so now that I know, I want to take care of you through all of it."
I smiled up at him. "Well, when you put it like that how can I refuse?"
Shingen kissed me tenderly and then finished getting my night robe on before changing into his own. Once he was finished, he was climbing into the futon and pulling me down next to him, holding me close.
I smiled as I snuggled closer to him, resting my head against his broad chest. "I love you, Shingen."
I felt his lips on top of my head. "And I love you, Ava." He was then gently rubbing my back. I felt my eyelids growing heavy as I was comfy and warm in his arms. I quickly drifted off to sleep, nestled in his embrace.
Shingen looked down at Ava, sleeping so peacefully in his arms. My beautiful princess. My angel. He thought, his gaze loving and tender. "I still can't believe what a lucky man I am to have you by my side."
He then placed a gentle kiss on Ava's forehead and then rested a hand on her belly. "And I can't wait to meet you, little one."
He laid there gazing at his sleeping wife, limned in the silver moonlight. "I still can't believe it." He murmured softly. "How could I have not known?" It was then that it hit him, that Ava would be needing a midwife. He knew exactly who to call on.
Delicately and reluctantly, Shingen pulled himself away from his sleeping wife and went over to write a letter. Once he had finished the letter, he called on one of his vassals to deliver it, urgently.
Once that was taken care of, Shingen climbed back into the futon and pulled Ava into his arms once more. "Shingen..." She murmured in her sleep, making him smile.
"I am glad to be in your dreams, my angel." He whispered, kissing her forehead, before snuggling closer and closing his own eyes.

The Pillars with pets; Modern AU headcanons
(Part 1!) Rengoku: -found a tiny, sopping wet, absolutely filthy kitten lying half-dead in an alleyway -“I shall take you home, save your life, feed you, clean you, name you Lion, adopt you and be friends with you for life” -“in that order” -frankly he never did plan to get a cat -he always wanted a pet, of course, but he used to see himself as more of a dog person -h o w e v e r, that kitten needed him. And Rengoku does not forsake victims of injustice!!!! -so yes. He takes it home. -he saves its life. -he names it Lion, adopts it, -and they become the best of friends. -Lion grows from a scrawny little baby kitten into the hugest, fluffiest ginger cat anybody has ever seen -Rengoku’s couch is perpetually covered with cat hair and he is so proud -(Sanemi comes over once, wearing white pants, sits down, stands up, stares at his pants and screams) -(Rengoku: she’s shedding! Isn’t it magnificent? Sanemi: son of a bitch my ass is oRANGE) -Lion becomes so huge that even Rengoku struggles a little to carry her around once she reaches full size, and he sometimes does reflect fondly on when his pet was small enough to actually hold, but luckily, Lion is also an incredibly lazy, incredibly easy-going cat -she also cannot ever be convinced not to sleep in Rengoku’s bed -eventually, she has kittens and Rengoku’s house becomes absolutely overrun with feral, fuzzy little creatures -he adores them all!! So much!!! (lowkey would name them after Lion King characters lol) -makes sure to send them all off to homes that he 10000% trusts, except for one that he keeps for himself -Lion the matriarch lives to be 20 years old and is forever remembered as a proud member of the Rengoku family Muichirou: -Himejima: I got you some birds -Muichirou: Birds are stupid -Muichirou: -Muichirou: Anyway, where are my birds -the birds are a pair of blue budgies -at first, it’s impossible to tell how Muichirou feels about them -(but he really loves them tbh) -one is Sora and the other is Yuki -Muichirou keeps them in a big cage in his room -and can often be seen just…sitting on a little stool in front of the cage. Staring at his pets. He can watch them for hours -is not initially sure how to go about befriending them -he’s kind of scared to tbh, but with some encouragement from Himejima and the information that they’re technically already hand-tamed, he starts making their acquaintance -Sora is sweet and immediately warms up to him. Yuki is a brat and can’t express herself through any action but biting -(Muichirou stares blankly at his bitten finger for a few seconds before deciding that he actually doesn’t care) -he continues to act like he has 0 feelings about them but tbh, once they start sitting on his shoulder and come up to snuggle against him -he goes Soft -never has them in their cage after that, except for bedtime/times when he can’t supervise them -lowkey shows them off to friends when they come over -(Tanjiro gushes over how sweet they are and Muichiro just. melts. He loves Tanjiro 12398x more than before, if that was even possible) -does *not* trust Inosuke or Zenitsu with his birds -saw some vids on youtube of talking budgies and was like “hmmm” -spent about a week trying to teach Yuki and Sora to talk before giving up -(because he decided he didn’t actually care that much lol) -(his pets are perfect. They don’t need to learn any extra tricks.) -sometimes gets a little sad because watching Yuki and Sora snuggle together kind of reminds him of himself and Yuichirou Shinobu: -no pets! Said Shinobu, smilingly, because pets make a mess -“and I don’t have the time to take care of a dog or a cat or a guinea pig” -then Shinobu realized that tarantulas exist. -her tarantula is a large, fuzzy specimen named -Coco. -Coco is a bit shy -her tank is kept in impeccable condition on Shinobu’s desk -the crickets for her food are carefully stored where nobody but Shinobu should be able to find them -(this happened after that one time Kanao brought friends home)-(and a certain somebody spilled the crickets)  -(Shinobu was out for blood that day….right after she finished de-cricketing her house)  -Shinobu doesn’t really handle Coco much because she doesn’t want to accidentally damage her  -plus, it’s nicer to just watch her crawl around  -during down time, when she doesn’t have work to do and can finally relax, she likes to just sit next to the tank and read a book or listen to some music  -when she has particularly unwelcome visitors, she…tends to feed them horror stories about tarantulas with an angelic smile  -before introducing them to Coco -she takes some sadistic pleasure in watching them squirm  -also will not stand for anybody insulting Coco. You talk smack about the spider, you’re banished from her house forever  -the only person in the friend group not afraid of Coco is probably Mitsuri, who thinks she’s the cutest, fuzziest spider she’s ever seen  -Shinobu loves her for that -Sanemi took one look at Coco and reacted with “wtf is that”; he’s since lost any respect Shinobu might’ve had for him -idk ultimately Shinobu feels like Coco is her soulmate; she’s beautiful, not particularly fussy, not clingy at all, but is still there, waiting in her tank when Shinobu comes home at the end of a long day  -and it’s just really nice to have a friend around, y’know Giyuu: -owns a turtle. -he never intended to own a turtle -he never intended to own anything -he bought it from some shady dude trying to sell it from a tiny dirty bucket on the side of the road because Animal Abuse -and was planning to give it to somebody -Giyuu: Hi so I have this turtle- -Everybody else in the squad: bye -he also doesn’t know anybody outside of the squad so…for the moment, the turtle is his -borrows literally every book on turtles ever from the local library -the next day he wakes up looking like a panda, with 30 minutes of sleep under his belt and more knowledge on turtles than any non-professional could hope to have -Giyuu @ turtle: I will not name you because that would mean that I have some intention of keeping you, and I have no intention of keeping you. None. -Giyuu, two hours later: Your name is Haru, you are babie, and I will kill anybody who tries to take you from me -Haru is a smol babie turtle and Giyuu has no restraint when it comes to purchasing his child’s things -huge tank, rocks, heating lamps, food -he goes above and beyond in providing proper conditions for his pet tbh. All the reading paid off -he is incredibly paranoid and has an endless list of every single reptile vet within a few hour’s drive of his house -(because what if Vet no.1 takes a day off so he goes to see Vet no.2 but Vet no.2’s heavily pregnant and her kid is due that day so he heads to Vet no.3 but Vet no.3 is on vacation in the Philippines-) -is That Person who responds to “you need to get out more” with “I have Haru” -people who hear him talk about Haru end up assuming that Haru is a human child and possibly his son -worries that Haru will be lonely and asks google if turtles need friends -Haru grows to be not-so-little in a few years but tbh? He’s still Giyuu’s baby.

Which rank do you think f2/f3 drivers have in your pack universe? My brain somehow puts them all as betas and omegas since they're smol but I also could see some like mick or Jack as alpha 🥺
Jsjs same! They are all babies so this was very hard to figure out without being biased🤣 Coincidentally Jack and Mick were the first two I put as Alphas, they just work like that👀👀 Aaaanyways I made a list for you, and excuse my dumbass but I didn't know all f2 drivers and barely any f3 ones😭 feel free to leave suggestions tho!
FORMULA 2
Sean Gelael: a sweet Beta
Jüri Vips: definitely an Omega, he got that sweet demure smile but he's also quite feisty jjs
Dan Ticktum: ... Beta? Maybe an Alpha since that would kinda explain his problematic outbursts🙃
Guanyu Zhou: Beta, maybe an Alpha?
Callum Ilott: look he just gives me Alpha vibes okay
Marcus Armstrong: this lil dude is an Omega and I pity whoever his Mate will be jsjs
Christian Lundgaard: defo an Omega too
Yuki Tsunoda: I have no clue oops
Jehan Daruvala: ... uhm i know his name but I barely know anything about him...
Jack Aitken: omg I'd definitely put him as Alpha! That'd be really interesting.
Guilherme Samaia: not enough info but he looks like an Alpha? Could be cos he's a lot older than the others though
Louis Delétraz: Beta? He got that tired and exasperated look down already
Pedro Piquet: uhhh Beta?
Felipe Drugovich: .... no clue
Nobuharu Matsushita: I feel dumb at this point idk who this is
Artem Markelov: he is an Omega 120000000% sure of it
Giuliano Alesi: this gorgeous specimen is obviously an Alpha
Mick Schumacher: Alpha! Look I have this whole storyline about how Mick's dad used to be Pack Alpha and how he already sometimes clashes with Kimi cos he instinctively watches over the Omegas and such jsjs (he is still a sweetie ofc, its just instincts)
Robert Shwartzman: this child is an Omega I will not change my opinion
Roy Nissany: don't really know him but looks like a cheery Beta
Marino Sato: look I didn't keep up with F2 this season dont be mad at me
Nikita Mazepin: uhm an Alpha? Also is he problematic or did I remember the wrong name AGAIN
Luca Ghiotto: a Beta, looks like a sweetheart but can't make more of it.
Juan Manuel Correa: he just looks like an Alpha tbh, but his Mate would be very lucky.
FORMULA 3/FORMULA REGIONAL
Uhm yeah very ashamed rn but I only really know a handful of these funky lil dudes🤷‍♀️ so imma only put down the ones I know well enough, but feel free to send suggestions:
Max Fewtrell: I don't think he would be a Beta but I'm very torn between Omega and Alpha. Like he lowkey gives off fuckboy vibes but also soft angel vibes?
Enzo Fittipaldi; this child is an Omega although he tries really hard to be tough jsjs
David Schumacher; Beta vibesssss
Sophia Flörsch: eeeehh Beta? Look I know who she is but her social media put me off so much I also don't really know who she is?
Jake Hughes: Alpha 👀
Arthur Leclerc: this boy is just an exasperated Beta who has to deal with a very dumb Omega brother
Gianluca Petecof: a Beta for sure jjs

A/N: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ONLY ICYHOT THAT MATTERS TODOROKI!!
I decided to combine a birthday special with an idea I had about a sick reader that I was going to write anyway because softboy Todo is the best Todo (besides the ones where he’s flirty but that’s different)
Don’t judge me for being on Tiktok, my cousin was showing me all the cosplayers and I was sold, the cosplayers are so talented, I’m really jealous T.T.  Not to mention there’s actually some really great fanfic fodder floating around there, so don’t be shocked if I post some others inspired by Tiktoks.  Anyway, enjoy the story!
I feel like I've been run over.
Every muscle in my body is either aching or stiff, my nose is stuffed, my throat hurts, and my body is cold and hot at the same time despite wearing flannel pajamas.  At random times last night, I woke up between whatever snipets of random dreams I can remember.
In short, I feel miserable and I've only been awake for 10 seconds.
I was hoping it wouldn't get to this point.  Two days ago, I started taking vitamin C supplements because I felt the tickling scratchiness starting up in my throat, and yesterday I was out with the Deku squad in the cold because Uraraka wanted to go to some wings place in the city in the freezing cold.  Never did I think it would escalate to this.
I blame Denki.  The idiot was coughing like a dog all over the place.
At first, I'm happy it's a Saturday and I can probably just lay in bed and sleep all day.  When I finally gather enough energy to roll over and look at my phone, I feel infinitely worse.
Fuck. It's January 11.
Today's Todoroki's birthday.  And I'm sick.  What kind of twist of fate is this?  I wanted to take him out to eat or go to an arcade or something just to spend the day with him, but it takes too much energy to get up.
I huff, guilt eating at me.  I have to do this, for my baby.  Kicking the covers off, I slowly roll up to sit at the edge of my bed, wrapping myself in my blanket and trudging to the bathroom.  The soreness in my limbs beg me to go back to bed, but I repeat the mantra, "For Shouto, it's for Shouto " to keep me going.
As soon as I see myself in the bathroom mirror I whine.  My face is so pale that my dark circles are more prominent, emphasizing my obvious lack of good sleep.  After I complete the strenuous task of brushing my teeth, I shuffle back to my bed and faceplant down at the foot side since I'm too tuckered out to get in properly.  I'll wait for Shouto to come after breakfast.  I'll just go back to sleep, I persuade myself as I drift off.  Maybe I can ask him to only spend half a day so I can come back and sleep, I'm sure he'll understand...
After some time, I'm startled out of my half slumber by a soft knock at the door.  "Love?  Are you awake?  It's me."
I smile at my precious angel's manners.  "Coming, just give me a sec."  I gather all my strength and try not to make it look like I'm dying on the inside as I open the door.
There Todoroki stands in his casual clothes, his endearing, ever-neutral face present as usual.  "Good morning.  You weren't down for breakfast, did you eat already?"
"No, not yet, I just woke up," I answer, my voice slightly hoarse.
His brows furrow.  "Did you drink any water yet at least?  They say it's good for starting your metabolism in the morning."
I shake my head.
He studies me, his heterochromatic eyes scanning me up and down in my blanket-clad state before scrutinizing my face.  "Did you sleep well last night?"
"Not really..."
He crosses his arms over his chest and steps towards me, making me take another one back.  "You know I don't like it when you don't take care of yourself.  You know what that means."  A dark aura washes over his face.
I cling to my blanket and screw my eyes shut, somewhat afraid of him when he gets like this.
A warm hand comes down on my head.  "You feel warmer than you're supposed to, the heat's radiating off of you.  Not to mention you're pale," he comments.  He removes his hand.  "Get back to bed, you're not going anywhere today."
"But it's your birthday, I wanted to spend the day with you," I cough at the end.  The muffled noise and the pain in my ears that follows males me realize my hearing is shot along with everything else wrong with me.
"We can spend the day in bed together," he argues, pushing me gently down to recline.
I groan at how stubborn he is.  "Can't we go out for half a day?  I promise I'll rest later."
"No," Todoroki dismisses tersely, refitting the blanket across my sheets.  "We can save that for tomorrow, you need rest."  He places a gentle kiss on my forehead and pauses.  "That's definitely a low to mid grade fever.  Can I trust you to stay here while I gather some supplies?"
I blink.  What.  "Yes, I'll stay put," I surrender.
After almost half an hour, Todoroki returns, awakening me from my slumber with arms full.
"What the-"  I eye the huge pot in his hands and a tote bag hanging off his arm.
He set the pot down on the floor.  "I took the liberty of making you chicken soup with some ginger for your throat.  I also brought some medicine for your fever, a box of tissues, a humidifier, some nose spray for the congestion, a bag of cough drops, a thermos of water, a carton of orange juice-"
I whine out loud like a child, feeling a huge rock of guilt on my chest.
"Is something wrong?  Are you in pain?"  His affectionate gaze flickers to me in worry.
"You're killing me, Shouto!"
He sits next to me on the bed, brushing my face with his fingertips.  "Did I do something wrong?  I'm sorry-"
"No, it's not you," I sigh.  "I just feel so bad.  Today's your birthday, and here you are taking care of me because I got sick instead of doing something fun.  I'm terrible."
His fingers brush my hair off my forehead.  "Love, it's not your fault that you're sick on my birthday-"
"Yeah, it's Kaminari's," I interject with a pout.
Todoroki chuckles.  "I'll fix him later.  I don't need anything special, I just want to spend time with you.  Besides, you being ill gives me the perfect excuse to stay by your side all day."
Warmth blooms in my chest at his loving words.  I sniff, "You're too good to me."
He kisses my forehead again.  "I'm fully expecting the same treatment if I ever get sick as repayment."
"Huh?!"
A heart-melting smile cracks across his face.  "Kidding, Love.  Just finish your soup and let me take care of you.  That's more than enough repayment."
The rest of the day passed in a comfortable blur.  Todoroki fed me soup by the bowl every few hours for my meals, made sure I drank water throughout the day, and gave me orange juice to drink.  "You need the Vitamin C to help your immune system work," he says.  All day, he wrapped us in blankets as we binge-watched shows and movies on my laptop while regulating my temperature with his quirk.  He catered to every need I had from my stuffy nose to my muffled hearing.  He even started massaging my sore muscles to ease the dull pain.  My heart couldn't feel fuller knowing he willingly nursed me back to health when he could've been doing something more fun or at least productive.
"Shouto, don't you want to at least go train today?" I ask.  "You don't have to sit here with me the whole day."
His hand around my body squeezes tighter.  "I'd rather be here with you than train."
I weakly hit his chest.  "You sound slightly obsessive."
Todoroki's cool fingers absently play with my hair, brushing my cheeks.  "If you fall asleep, I'll step out for a little so I don't bother you."
After a moment, I tilt my head up at him.  "I want to give you your gift at least.  It's in the top drawer."
Quirking an eyebrow, he gets out of bed and opens my chest of drawers.  "You didn't need to get me anything."  He pulls out a thin, black cardboard box on top.
"I'm warning you now, it's kind of stupid, but I didn't know what to get for a boy who already has everything," I admit, nervously watching him sit back next to me and open it.
Inside is a simple string bracelet with two silver balls flanking a golden Sun symbol.  Todoroki takes it out and immediately puts it on his right wrist to admire it, though his expression is blank as ever.
"I know you don't wear jewelry, but I wanted to keep it simple.  Besides, it's actually a couples set," I nod over to my bedside table.  "Mine is over there."
He surveys the mess and locks eyes with a bracelet of similar design except a silver crescent moon is in the middle.
"You get the Sun one because you're my precious sunshine boy," I chuckle before coughing to clear my throat.  "Sorry, that was really cheesy-"
Todoroki cups my face and seals my lips before I can finish.  I almost kiss him back instinctively, but I pull his hands away.  "Shouto, I'm sick-"
"Thank you."  A soft smile appears across his features and his eyes glint in affection, washing me over in warmth.  "I'll wear it every day, when I'm not training so it won't break."
Before I can respond, he tackles me in another kiss, sending my heart into a frenzy of irregular beats.  His kisses are sweet yet searing, pouring all of his love as he moves against me, clinging to my body like a lifeline.
When Todoroki finally pulls away, my head spins, but I can't miss the grin on his face as he caresses my cheek.  "I love you," he whispers.
And just like that, my heart feels squeezed again.  "You're gonna get sick."
He pecks my nose.  "At least it's from you."
I bury my face in his chest, heat rushing to my cheeks and ears.  "I love you too, you big dork."
The rise and fall of his chest and his soft touch in my hair lulls me to sleep in his arms, a smile on both of our faces.

Sweet Fantasies (Shingen x MC crack)
Pure, unadulterated crack, fresh from the depths of my sleep-deprived brain. I’m sorry not sorry.
This is probably a teaser for a longer something once Mitsuhide finishes torturing me in my mind *g* BECAUSE I WANT SHINGEN KITCHEN SMUT RIGHT NOW. Oooohhhhhh the places my mind goes with this. Why yes, I am an equal-opportunity Ikesen ho.
~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~
Title: Sweet Fantasies Pairing: Shingen x MC Rating: T (No smut, all crack. Sexytime insinuated)
Description: While enjoying a sunny day in the garden, Shingen and MC discuss something MC misses from the future. Silliness follows.
------
The warmth of spring had finally arrived and the rain ceased, albeit temporarily. It was the first time in nearly two weeks the doors inside our home stood open, letting in the fresh air and allowing us out. I sat in the garden under a shower of cherry blossoms while Shingen worked on his latest project—a cradle for Yukimura and his new wife. The announcement hadn’t been made yet, but we could tell by the way Mariko carried herself that it would come soon. Many times over the last month I’d braved the incessant downpour to care for her during bouts of sickness while Shingen and Yuki were otherwise indisposed. The mental image of Yukimura figuring out how to handle a baby amused me so much that I couldn’t help laughing out loud.
“What, pray tell, brings my goddess such great joy?” Shingen asked. His head was bent against his work and wood shavings covered him from head to toe as he carved and sanded the rocker blades that would hold our gift.
“Just thinking about how much fun it will be to tease Yukimura about being a father,” I answered, still snickering.
Shingen laughed as well. “Lucky for Mariko, he’s a fast learner,” he said. This was true. Yuki might have been an awkward idiot, but he was sincere in everything he did and if it meant pleasing his wife, he’d go to the ends of the earth to do it. “It’s such a shame,” Shingen continued, still chuckling, “I have this goddess in my presence, yet she’s thinking of another man. I must be losing my touch.”
I rolled my eyes. “You’re so corny.”
“Perhaps.” Shingen placed his tools to the side and opened his arms. “Come here. I suddenly have the need to hold my angel.” His cheesy lines made my face heat, but I slipped into his lap without hesitation and lay my head against his shoulder. Everything this man did, he did with the sole purpose of making me smile.
A purr of satisfaction rumbled out from his chest, coursing through me in the most delicious way. It would be so easy to distract him with a kiss; to drag him back to our bedroom and spent yet another day wrapped up in each other. Though as much as I would’ve enjoyed it, the sunshine was too warm and wonderful to ignore.
“Tell me, my love,” Shingen said, his fingers coursing through my unbound hair, “what is it like to raise children in your time?”
“I don’t really know,” I answered. We’d talked about kids a lot over the last year since returning from the future, but despite Shingen’s best efforts, it hadn’t happened yet. “The birth process is much easier thanks to modern medicine. Painkillers, a couple of days in the hospital, and you’re home. I imagine it’s easier to care for a baby with things like electricity and refrigeration. If a mom can’t produce breast milk, there are easily available alternatives. A modern kitchen definitely helps when preparing a little one’s food.”
“That kitchen of yours certainly was a sight to behold.”
“You know, of all the things I miss from the future, I think I miss my kitchen the most.”
Shingen’s hand stilled in my hair. We often talked of the future, but not of the things I missed. I chose not to dwell on the conveniences I’d given up. When we first returned, Shingen asked me often if I regretted leaving and I always told him no. To mention something I miss meant I had his full attention.
“What makes you miss that kitchen so much?”
“You’ll think it’s silly.” I turned my face into his chest to hide my embarrassment and laughed.
“Nothing you say is silly. Tell me what you miss.”
I hesitated and he pulled me back by the shoulders. Shingen made me look at him despite the burning redness in my face.
“The raised counters,” I admitted, mortified. Shingen’s forehead creased and a small half-smile appeared on his lips.
“The counters? Why ever would that be the thing you miss most?”
“I…I can’t tell you that part.”
“My angel,” he started, his gaze darkening as he stared at me, “you must remember that I am a master of information. I have ways of extracting it from you.”
Ways I’d enjoy, no doubt…
I leaned back against his chest, wrapping my arms around him so I didn’t have to look at him. His arms slid back around me, cradling me against him like I was the most precious treasure in the world.
“So, there’s always this scene in romance novels where the heroine is in the kitchen and the hero comes in to see what she’s doing.” A hysterical giggle escaped my throat. I couldn’t believe I was telling him this.
“If you feel that way about it, it must be a particularly good fantasy.” His lips land on my forehead and his fingers work back into my hair, calming me.
“Well, yeah…it really is.”
“Tell me about it. What happens after he finds her in the kitchen?”
“He interrupts whatever she’s doing by coming up behind her and putting his arms around her. Then…”
“Go on.”
I take a deep breath. “He’ll distract her by kissing her. And then he’ll put her up on the counter and…”
“And then he ravishes her?” Shingen asked, entirely too interested in my little fantasy world. I nodded against his chest and bit the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing again. “That is quite the fantasy, Princess. I understand why you would miss your counters so much.” There was a note of…is that jealousy?…in his voice. His shoulders tensed and though he didn’t say anything, I could tell he wasn’t pleased by the thought of me doing something like that with someone else.
“Shingen…” I inhaled again and leaned back, steeling myself against the surprising coldness in his gaze. When I touched his face with my fingertips, he didn’t lean into it like normal. “I…I’ve never actually done that, you know. I’ve just read about it and…”
And all the hardness in him melted away, replaced with a new, almost predatory determination.
“I see,” he replied. An indulgent smile appeared on his lips. “You miss the idea of raised counters because you think it means you’ll never have the chance to know how it feels for yourself.”
“Yes.”
“Then I shall give you your modern kitchen. I can think of nothing more arousing than my beautiful wife in her dream kitchen making sweets for me.”
“You always turn it around, don’t you? You make everything about you.”
“Of course,” he answered with a grin. “Now that my mind’s eye has shown me you in the kitchen, your belly rounded with our first child while you make those wonderful molasses dumplings of yours, I cannot unsee it.”
He pulled me close and kissed me, his skilled lips and talented fingers teasing over me and breaking down every inhibition I had and making me totally forget my witty retort about his various appetites. By the time he let me go, I was a quivering mass of need. He did such wonderful, horrible things to me. The jerk prided himself on it.
“Perhaps, my angel, I can assist in creating some new fantasies until that kitchen is ready.” He rose from the ground, lifting me in his arms like I weighed nothing, and turned for our bedroom, his lips finding mine again.
To be continued in a later story...

How about the time skip girls: Megumi, Nene and Hinako :)?
Ofc !
Megumi Tadokoro
Why I like them - Megumi is such a sweet, angel-like persona who has so much love and comfort in her heart, I think it’s honestly very hard to not like her. I’d also say Megumi had some of the best moments in the entire manga (I stand by my opinion that the official Shokugeki against Shinomiya was the best Shokugeki for me) and while some aspects offer journey are clunky, especially towards the latter part where she was sort-off denied spotlight more and more, she overall came a very, very long way and it was a joy seeing her gain more confidence in herself over the years.
Why I don’t
Favorite episode (scene if movie) - Chapter 21-27/Episode 10/12 (The Shinomiya-Shokugeki, as I said I absolutely enjoyed that one), Chapter 50 (Her butchering the monkfish), Chapter 57 (PRECIOUS ANGEL MAKING IT INTO THE AE AFTER ALL HER HARD WORK), Chapter 69 (Her speaking up for her friends against Ryo’s “Friends-Are-For-The-Weak-Speech” was nice ;w;)
Favorite season/movie - Season 1 and Season 3 (influenced mostly by Moon Banquet Festival)
Favorite line - “All the people who pushed me forward. Don’t speak badly of them!” (Chapter 69)
Favorite outfit -I’d say the nightgown she wore in her chat with Soma on the balcony (It’s a nightgown right? It looks like a nightgown ovo;; Or is it just some frilly dress?)
OTP - Her and Isami Aldini ;w;
Brotp - PSD (mainly Yuki and Ryoko), Erina Nakiri (wether you count her in or not), Miyoko Hojo, her and Ryo or Akira honestly also sounds like fun....to be perfectly honest, she could befriend almost the entire cast and I would love it ahdhd
Head Canon - Loves crafting ! Every member of PSD owns at least one little self-made thing of her.
Unpopular opinion - I don’t really like her Les Dessert 3 hairstyle? ;w; It’s nothing horrible or awful, not at all but...I just prefer her old looks.
A wish - Full-fledged, detailed Shokugeki where Megumi actually wins and against someone who we know as competent.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen - Her getting reduced more and more into a side-character *ahEAM*
5 words to best describe them - Gentle. Comforting. Shy. Helpful. Anxious.
My nickname for them - Angel I guess
Nene Kinokuni
Why I like them - I tend to like icy characters with a sort-off hidden softness. It’s also nice to have a few serious characters within the chaos that’s the Elite 10 and with Nene in particular, she’s also the one out of her 3 classmates within the E10 who manages best to just keep her head on straight. Nene is another character who strikes me as an elegant one in her devotion to her craft and also that she’s generally are pretty decent person I’d say. She can be intimidating, she can be adorable, she can expose hidden soft sides and she can be funny in her own right. It’s just a joy seeing her for me! Also there’s a few aspects to her that I can relate so, so that’s definitely also a plus.
Why I don’t
Favorite episode (scene if movie) - Chapter 207 (that’s pretty much the point where we got to know her a lot better I’d say, since before that she did not get to do much, so), Chapter 208 (More details to her craft !!), Chapter 210 (her and Isshiki being adorbs as children *shrug* That stuff is cute), Chapter 270 (I said it a billion times, her Timeskip-Look was one of the bests) also 202 and 204 for OTP moments (that’s important)
Favorite season/movie - Season 3
Favorite line - “If you think you can even hope to match me with soba, you are sorely mistaken” (Chapter 208), “I hate how barbaric you are”(Episode 8 or so of San no Sara 2nd Cour I think)
Favorite outfit - To be perfectly honest, the outfits she’s seen in as child. They were so neat and adorable.
OTP - Her and Etsuya Eizan because I hate myself
Brotp - Welp Isshiki and Kuga because 91st Elite Squad as a whole is one big BrOTP, + Momo, Somei and Rindou. Those would be my major ones ;w;
Head Canon - When she’s been somewhere and the place has a visitor’s book, she will leave a straight-up, flat but honest review of her time there.
Unpopular opinion  - *looks at the OTP-section*
A wish - She shouldn’t have gotten only one Shokugeki in the entire series and loose that one, in her own speciality. She should have faced off against Isshiki, change my mind. She was basically introduced as the best student of the 91st Generation and was barely utilized and even got a downranking in the very end. She !! deserved !! better!!! Also she deserved truly explored redemption.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen - Well, it’s said in the wish already isn’t it? ovo;;
5 words to best describe them - Diligent. Serious. Taciturn. Ambitious. Cold.
My nickname for them - QUEEN and another one but that’s more based on an insert joke so ahdhdh
Hinako Inui
Why I like them - She’s massive fun! Pretty much almost every of Hanako’s scene is hilarious and she never fails to get a laughter out of me. I love how childlike she is for an adult person, as well as all her tics or few oddities. She’s a character to work very strongly in different character-interactions as she’s quick to weird other people out or straight up annoy them. And that’s just all very entertaining.
Why I don’t
Favorite episode (scene if movie) - Chapter 16, 18, 19 (Episode 8 and 9, I think) (This is just some of her funniest moments to me), Chapter 22, 23, 26, 27 (Also some of her funniest moments, while also some of her cutest moments with Shinomiya + her adding the last coin to Megumi’s plate was adorable), That one chapter in Shinomiya’s Spin-Off manga that focuses on them.
Favorite season/movie - Season 1
Favorite line - “Why be so stubborn? Dummy! Blockhead! Narcissist!” (Chapter 22)
Favorite outfit - Her regular one,I guess ;w;
OTP - SHINOHINA FOR THE WIN BABY (deserved to be canon)
Brotp - Her and Gotoda, partners in crime. As well as Dojima!
Head Canon - Still fills out the quizzes those teen magazines.
Unpopular opinion - I don’t think I have one ;w;
A wish - Was it ever explained why exactly she was called “Mist Empress” in her school days? That would have been interesting to know.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen - I just wish she would have appeared a tad bit more and could have possibly be shown mentoring someone.
5 words to best describe them - Silly. Childish. Enthusiastic. Eccentric. Friendly.
My nickname for them - I have none ;w;

Amuto Fic (Working Title)
A/N: This is the first chapter in what I hope is going to be a multi-chapter fic. Also, if anyone has any ideas for a title, please send them over. Dedicated to my precious babies: Amu and Ikuto! Also, trigger warning for an abusive relationship (her ex was a massive dick).
Also, shoutout to @oodlittlething and @noviceotakus-blog for proofreading and offering tech support!!
~~~~~
The ringing phone shocked 16-year-old Amu Hinamori back into the present moment as her close friend Berkeley Walker laughed at her startled expression.
“Spacing out again, were we?” the latter asked with a kind chuckle. Berkeley was one of Amu’s best friends, by her side ever since she started at her new high school in Cupertino, California, two years ago, after moving there with her parents and younger sister from Japan. Berkeley, herself a transfer from Albuquerque, New Mexico, (which, she assured Amu, was as different from San Jose as the latter from Japan, despite being in the same country) was a loud and confident girl, tough when the need arose, but surprisingly calm and level-headed. She was on the volleyball and martial arts teams at their school, and had met Amu in their homeroom class freshman year; the two transfers had learned to navigate their new school together. Amu was so happy to have found someone as strong as Berkeley to count on during her first year in America!
Today they were on the bus to meet their friend Suzie Chen. They had befriended Suzie last year, before she switched to the private girls’ school she currently attended following her father’s company’s relocation across town. Though she was doing well at her new school, she said she missed her friends terribly and couldn’t wait to see them today. The studio where she studied violin after school was giving free promotional lessons today, and despite Berkeley’s claim that she “100 percent lacked that kind of coordination,” Suzie had successfully convinced the girls to attend. Amu was also uncertain whether she possessed any sort of musical talent, but was dying to see Suzie, and figured the violin would be fun to try out, at least once. Suzie’s violin had such a lovely sound, peaceful and warm like a springtime afternoon spent frolicking in meadow blossoms. But just now, Amu had been thinking of another violin, slower, more melancholy notes, and a kind man with a terribly sad smile….
“I hope it was a nice daydream, Amu-chan,” chimed their acquaintance Yuki Yotoba sweetly as she walked to the front of the parked bus, waving good-bye to the two girls. Yuki-chan is so kind-hearted, even after I spaced out the entire time she was on the bus with us…I’ll have to make it up to her later! Thought Amu to herself. Yuki, aiming to attend nursing school, volunteered almost every day after school at the hospital, so they didn’t see each other much, but happened to be taking her bus today. A quiet, sweet-mannered girl like her would be a perfect nurse! She would definitely need to properly apologize next time! Maybe if she kept taking violin lessons, she could see Yuki-chan more, and become better friends with her!
Amu grinned sheepishly, looking down more than necessary to fish the still-ringing phone from her bag in an attempt to hide her flushed cheeks. How silly! How long had it been since she had seen, or even thought of, that person anyway? She retrieved the phone, answered the video call, and was greeted with Utau Hoshina’s beaming face. Amu was ecstatic; Utau was one of Amu’s closest friends from Japan, though they could rarely talk with Utau’s busy schedule. She worked so hard, having become a Japanese pop sensation while still in middle school, and was now, at age 19, singing internationally and also acting, having landed a major role in a hit TV series being filmed in Los Angeles, all while pursuing her degree in communications! “Moshi-moooooooooooooosh,” Utau sang into the phone in a playful voice. “Oh, hi Berkeley! This is perfect!” she exclaimed, switching to English for their American friend. “Did you two get your tickets for this Saturday?”
“Yes we did, thank you so much!” The girls were practically jumping out of their seats now. This Saturday, Utau was performing in nearby San Francisco, and they would see each other in person for the first time since her concert there last year.
“Good, I’d better see my two biggest fans there!” she said with a wink. “After all, I’ve been working super hard for you!” After a brief pause, she added, “Oh, I think you’ll like the opening band too, it’s a local one performing especially for the San Francisco concert.” Berkeley squealed with excitement.
“A band from here? What kind of band?”
“Indie rock. I met them last time I was in SF. A bunch of sweaty, grungy-haired guys,” she said with a grimace, “but their sound is nice. Soft guitar rifts with a piano. Just got a violinist too, pretty classy stuff. Now if only they would wash their hair more often! They better not embarrass me!” Amu’s stomach tightened slightly at the mention of the violin, remembering a certain Indie band Utau had briefly been involved with while they were still in Japan. An Easter project. Angsty pop music with a sad violin….
“-so not fair! Just because he’s a jock doesn’t mean he doesn’t wash his hair! Besides, you’ve never actually met him!” They were talking about Utau’s boyfriend and Amu’s former classmate, Kukai Soma. He was in his final year of high school in Japan, diligently studying every moment he wasn’t participating in extra basketball practice. A star player and stellar student, his dream was to secure a basketball scholarship to UCLA so he could get a US visa and move close to Utau. She acted like it didn’t matter if he came to America or not, but she always asked him how his UCLA application was going, adding a “not that I care particularly.” Kukai was shining with confidence, so sure that he would secure that scholarship no matter what! It must be harder on them than they let on, thought Amu, to live so far apart, as they have for most of their relationship, since Utua had started touring internationally shortly after they started dating over three years ago. But they were so strong and supportive of each other’s dreams. Oh please, please let Kukai-kun get that scholarship!
“Amu, please tell Berkeley that Kukai isn’t grungy!”
Amu chuckled. Utau may pout, but Amu knew she enjoyed the teasing, especially when it gave her an excuse to talk about her boyfriend; Utau had confided that it helped make him seem less far away, not that it bothered her, of course. Amu rolled her eyes and smiled. The girls stopped laughing just in time to hear their stop announced and began to gather their bags. “You two have a violin lesson today, right?”
“Yeah, Suzie’s studio is giving free lessons today, so we decided to try it!” Utau’s softened, then narrowed mischievously as she broke into a teasing smile.
“Amu, will you become a great violinist like Ikuto?” Again, Amu caught herself blushing. This time, Berkeley caught her as well.
“Ooh Amu, you’re blushing! Who is Ikuto, a cute boy?”
“As if! Ikuto is Utau’s man-child pervert of a brother! And he’s lucky he was able to record music, because he certainly can’t keep a real job!” she said a little too loudly, all the while cursing her cheeks for blushing so brightly and begging them not to turn redder. Berkeley laughed as the bus pulled up to their stop, while Utau just narrowed her eyes, smiling even wider with a “hmmmmmmmmmm.” Amu wanted to melt away. But why? Ikuto Tsukiyomi really was just her friend’s man-child pervert of a brother. Why did everyone think he should be anything else. Even Tadase….
Suddenly Utau’s face was a great bright smile again. “Well, ladies, my break is over! I’ll see you both Saturday!” The girls said good-bye as they exited the bus, Suzie waiting for them in her school’s uniform and carrying her violin case. Berkeley called out to her in her loud, emphatic voice (a credit to her Midwestern roots, she had explained):
“Oi, Suzie, look at our prim, proper paragon of wifey material! You ready to school us in ‘etiquette befitting a lady,’ or whatever it’s called?” But before they were fully in earshot of their friend, Berkeley clapped Amu on the back and whispered, “You’ll tell me all about Ikuto later, right?” She ran ahead with a carefree smile and wink.
It was true that Amu had never told Berkeley about Ikuto, even though she was her closest friend in America, knew about all her friends from Japan, and had met most of them, at least electronically. Kukai-kun she had met last year through a video chat with Utau while she was home for a visit. She had joined Amu in Skype calls with Nagihiko Fujisaki and his boyfriend Richie Preston, who both studied dance in England. She followed Nagi-kun’s dance videos on Instagram, and had even seen videos from his days as Nadeshiko. Berkeley frequently chatted with Rima Mashiro, Amu’s closest female friend in Japan. Rima-chan and Nagi-kun had dated for a while, but broke up after he moved to England for high school. Not everyone could handle a long distance relationship as well as Utau-chan and Kukai-kun, after all! Rima-chan and Berkeley turned out to share a love of comedy, so despite the latter’s “uncouth American manner,” Rima “approved” of her. Geez, that girl could be such a tsundere at times! Why can’t she just admit that she loves talking to Berkeley?
As did Yaya Yuiki, who, practicing for her dream of becoming a preschool teacher, took it upon herself to give Berkeley regular Japanese lessons via Skype. Amu had tried to tell her teaching preschoolers and teaching a high school student Japanese weren’t exactly the same thing, to which she responded “But if she knows that little, it’s almost the same thing right?” Honestly, Yaya-chan could be the uncouth one at times! It wasn’t Berkeley’s fault she didn’t know much Japanese! Apparently most American schools don’t teach any foreign language until high school, and even then only the Spanish of neighboring Mexico! Really! How did any of their students go to school abroad? Amu couldn’t imagine starting high school in America without having taken English since elementary school!
Berkeley had never met Kairi Sanjo, but knew him as the polite boy from Amu’s emails. He was too old-fashioned for the social media that kept Amu in constant communication with the rest of her friends, probably because it’s too “worldly” for his devout samurai lifestyle. In his final year of middle school and top in his class, he was applying to schools in Europe and America. He has even applied to a school in San Francisco, so maybe Amu would see him again soon!
She had shown Berkeley pictures of him at his sister Yukari’s wedding to Yuu Nikaido. Berkeley had met Yukari Sanjo-san, Utau’s manager, at last year’s concert, and knew Nikaido-sensei had been Amu’s teacher in elementary school. Amu had let it slip that those two used to be bad, but she let Berkeley think she was only talking about Sanjo-san’s addiction to take-out and Nikaido-sensei’s dangerous level of clumsiness. After all, Easter, the Embryo, and the Guardians were probably things she could never talk about with anyone, no matter how close the person or how fond the memories. Besides, that was all so long ago; they were good people now, a sweet couple with an adorable child, a 3-year-old girl named Su Nikaido. The name always made Amu swell with pride.
Berkeley knew of Amu’s mentees, Rikka Hiiragi and Hikaru Ichinomiya, now in middle school, and both knew of her, though she hadn’t talked directly to either. Rikka was too embarrassed by her poor English, but studied and looked forward to properly introducing herself in English someday, and Hikaru was busy with his intense studies and taking on more and more control of Easter, aiming to be able to run the company on his own by the time he came of age. Though he still found time for surprise visits to cheer Rikka-chan on at her track meets, always saying he “just happened to be free, no big deal,” when she jumped for joy to see him. Poor boy, thought Amu, Rikka doesn’t read the mood very well, and will take him at his word until he tells her how he feels honestly! When she told Berkeley about it, she responded that from what Amu said about him, he seemed like the type who wasn’t entirely aware of how he felt to begin with, which made a lot of sense to Amu.
Berkeley had a true gift for understanding people in that way. She pretended not to notice the inner conflicts people either didn’t understand or tried to hide, but she could tell, and when she did, she would give an elongated, kind of knowing glance, as if to say: “when you’re ready to talk, I am here.” And that look made people want to talk to her about it, not least of all Amu herself. Berkeley should really study to be a therapist, because she would make a great one!
In Amu’s case, a much-welcomed therapist. In the last year, Amu’s guardian characters had all been reabsorbed into her, first Ran, then Miki, then Su, and finally Dia. She knew it would happen eventually. As children grow up and become their would-be selves, they no longer need these selves to exist outside of them. When it happened depended on the person and how well they matured into their would-be selves, but losing a guardian character was a natural fact of growing up. The girls assured Amu that they would always be there inside her, but she still missed having them to talk to. How wonderful, though, that she had grown up into a girl who could talk honestly with her friends just the way she had with her guardian characters, like a normal person! And how especially wonderful to have such a good friend to talk to, all the way here in America, who she could talk openly to with no fear of judgement! Come to think of it, she thought, except for those secrets she couldn’t tell anyone, she had told Berkeley almost everything about her past.
So why, after knowing the rest of Amu’s history, did Berkeley never even get a mention of Ikuto? Well, first off, Amu wasn’t sure where to start with Ikuto; he was such a confusing man. She had met him in elementary school, and, like Nikaido-sensei, Sanjo-san, and even Utau-chan, he was once an Easter employee who corrupted and shattered children’s hearts’ eggs. But he didn’t have a choice; that was never something he wanted. Although what did he want, anyway? He sometimes seemed happiest when left alone to play violin in the park and then curl up to sleep on a bench. Though if he was truly happy, then why did the music he played in those moments seem so incredibly sad?
Other times, he seemed to enjoy teasing children, particularly Amu and her friends. He especially loved picking on Amu, telling her he loved her, kissing her cheeks, and all kinds of creepy things, then laughing at her confusion before disappearing, reassuring her that he would never do anything like “that.” (Whatever “that” was!) And then he would turn up months later, napping on her balcony, or even in her bed! Geez, he was just like a stray cat! Maybe I should have left tuna out for him, thought Amu with a smirk.
But even Ikuto seemed to know when to stop playing sometimes. Fighting Easter, there were so many times Amu could have gotten hurt, or worse. She had been kidnapped, shot at, and pushed off of buildings, and hadn’t Ikuto defied his boss’s orders countless times to save her when that happened? Why would he do that, though? If she wasn’t able to fight Easter, wouldn’t that make his job so much easier? Didn’t he get in trouble over that sort of thing? Hadn’t he actually been hurt after letting her escape that one time? He had been so helpless and alone, that Yoru had begged her, the enemy, to help him. Of course she had, because those injuries were her fault.
Maybe he actually does love you, thought a small voice in her head, which she quickly drowned out. Yeah, right! He probably just didn’t want Easter to stop him from being able to torment me, like a cat guarding its favorite toy!
Besides, it wasn’t like he treated the people he claimed to care for very well anyway. He left to look for his father, all the while cursing him for abandoning his family; he disowned his mother, still in the asylum after Aruto-san’s disappearance, and he had left his little sister Utau to raise herself any way she knew how, even if that meant becoming a puppet of Easter. Even now, he was the only one she would openly show affection for (she could be cold even to Kukai-kun), and he still would only see her if he was paid enough to perform with her. He had been especially cruel in constantly bullying Tadase Hatori, who had looked up to him and called him Nii-san.
Tadase. Amu’s first love. Their relationship had ended badly, and Amu still partially blamed Ikuto for it. Amu had admired Tadase since fourth grade, and their Guardian adventures had brought them together in fifth grade, leading to a relationship spanning sixth and part of seventh grade. He had been such a kind boy at first, giving everything he worked at and everyone he cared for his all. It was probably this absolute dedication that had drawn Amu to him in the first place. Once they started dating, he doted on her, always checking in with her, surprising her, looking for new ways to show her his love. But after they went to different middle schools, Tadase changed. He became a bit…too dedicated. It probably started with the constant texts. They had been so sweet in the beginning:
“I hope you’re having a great day.”
“I know you will do fantastic on your test today.”
“Thank you for being in my life.”
“I love you.”
But then they became weird. Obsessive. And constant. She had sometimes felt drowned in texts that made her feel…off. Like, kind of drained and even kind of nervous for some reason she couldn’t place her finger on.
“Do you truly love me?”
“There’s no one else for you, right?”
“Why won’t you text back?” He would text her in class! He may have been smart enough to get into a special middle school for gifted students, but she actually had to pay attention in class to keep up, thanks very much! Then he started obsessively asking her friends about her. Yaya-chan and Rima-chan had complained about the constant “why won’t Amu text me? Is she okay?” texts while they were in class. He would even show up unexpectedly after school, expecting long walks while he prattled on he, blissfully ignorant of her concern over her missed student club meetings or the test she needed to study for, prattled on about how he would graduate from his elite school and get a fantastic job so he could meet her every need and she wouldn’t need to lift a finger. She never felt like she could tell him she didn’t want to be taken care of like a child.
Ikuto had texted her during those years too, sending pictures of his adventures in Europe and asking about his “little Prince” Tadase. He teased them both so much, and Amu had yelled at Ikuto for constantly berating Tadase to “hurry and grow up man enough for Amu,” and threatening to steal her away. Honestly, didn’t that man have anything better to do than pick on kids? Looking back, Amu couldn’t help but wonder if Ikuto’s bullying had pushed Tadase to become so freakishly possessive of her.
Ikuto had been there New Year’s Day of seventh grade, that painful day, and Amu still wondered if things could have been different had Ikuto not been there. Of course, things had not been going well with Tadase to begin with, but they had talked about a fresh start in the new year; she loved him so, so much, and she still had hope that things could work! It started off well; Amu and Tadase met with Yaya-chan, Rima-chan, and Nagi-kun (who had only recently confessed that he and Nadeshiko were one and the same, and while Amu liked Nagi-kun a lot, she was still trying to get used to it) at the town’s New Year Festival. The girls had gotten matching hair ornaments, and Tadase had bought hers for her. Nagi-kun had offered to buy Rima-chan’s, which she had proudly refused, although not without a blush. Everyone was not-so-patiently waiting for them to finally realize they liked each other! Amu had added a new year’s prayer for them, in addition to her prayers her strained relationship with Tadase. Oh, how she had prayed with all her might when it was her turn at the shrine that year! She had felt so fresh and new afterward, and after seeing Tadase’s old, kind smile and taking his soft, strong hand, she really did believe that everything would be okay….
And then Ikuto arrived, lazily strolling behind a red-faced, pouting Kukai-kun, something about “hurry and grow up man enough for my little sister,” and “oh that’s rich coming from someone who only came to her concert because he was paid to open for her!” As soon as they arrived, Tadase had tensed, and Amu with him. As the day went on, things had gotten worse, and all because Ikuto wouldn’t mind his own damn business!
He had tried to buy her a hair ornament, saying the one she had looked too childish for her. Despite her insistence that she didn’t need fashion advice from a nosy man-child, Tadase had gripped her hand more tightly, as he had started to do lately when he was becoming jealous.
When they visited a maze to be completed in groups of two or three, Ikuto just had to crash Amu and Tadase, saying he “couldn’t possibly trust his mischievous little brother with Princess Amu.” Tadase had been silent the whole time, his face a dark shadow, and his hand had gripped hers ever more tightly. Her hand had even hurt! Despite the tension and pain, Amu had tried her best to laugh, smile, and bring joy back to their day, which had only seemed to anger Tadase even more, resulting in an even tighter grip. And that damn Ikuto had not helped, but simply strolled along whistling to himself, his obliviousness to the awkwardness he caused even more painful than Tadase’s grip.
The final straw had been in the early evening, right before show, when they stopped to get hot drinks. Tadase had gotten Amu and himself hot chocolates-huge with mounds of whipped cream and toppings, an extravagant peace offering typical of Tadase. Amu had sipped hers slowly to prevent a massive rush of sugar to her underprepared stomach, allowing the heat to sooth her cramping hand. Ikuto was taking forever getting his drink, Kukai-kun had gone backstage with Utau, and Nagi-kun and the girls were singing and dancing in anticipation of the concert, leaving Amu and Tadase to finally get some time to themselves. They sat silently, feeling each others’ warmth, watching as the night’s first stars fought to shine in the fading twilight. His hand had caressed hers so softly; how could it possibly have been the same hand to crush hers so just an hour past? It was moments like these when Amu remembered the warm, kind boy who wanted to walk forever by her side, protecting her heart, and oh, how she wanted him to so, so much! If only time could have frozen in that last perfect moment….
And then Ikuto had shown up with two apple ciders, holding one out to Amu. “Yo, Amu,” he had said with that devilish smirk of his, “I got an extra cider, you can have it if you like,” and then with a sneer at her hot chocolate, “after all, you only drink milk after a bath, no?”
Amu had screamed at Ikuto to stop saying such perverted things, demanding to know if he had anything better to do that harass children, but the damage had been done. Tadase had flown to his feet, cocoa spilled, face red, fists clenched. He had opened his mouth, but uttered no words, and finally just pushed past Ikuto, storming off. Amu had wanted to call to him, to say anything to heal his wounded heart, but her voice had been caught in her throat, no words able to reach him, no thoughts able to comprehend this situation she found herself in. Instead, with Tadase out of her reach, she had unleashed all her feelings on Ikuto in a fierce rage.
“Why do you always ruin everything? Why do you like seeing me hurt? Why can’t you just leave me alone?” Looking back on it, Amu had hurled some pretty hurtful words at Ikuto, and for the first time, he had looked fazed, eyes open wide, face blank with shock as Amu continued to rant.
It was Rima-chan, in her fierce protection mode, who had stood between them with a curt “I think you should go, and Nagi-kun, in his rational, peace-keeping way, who offered, “I think there are some things to talk about that might be better discussed when everyone has had a bit of time to cool down.” Ikuto had just continued to stare in shock for what had seemed like an eternity before finally turning and walking away, slumped and defeated.
Amu’s friends had tried their best to help her enjoy what was left of the festival, as she had tried to take joy in their kind efforts. Rima-chan had shown her a comedy routine she had been working on, breaking her rule of only showing complete work (a rule she now broke frequently with her comedic partner Berkeley), Nagi-kun had offered to put his hair up and talk to her as Nadeshiko, an gesture met with a vigorous offer of hair ribbons from Yaya-chan and a jealous pout from Rima-chan. Both Nagi-kun and Kukai-kun (who must have been surprised to rejoin them and ask about Tadase only to be met with tears and sad glances) offered to talk to Tadase, “help him resolve things, man to man,” as Kukai-kun had put it. They had watched skits and acrobats, jugglers and dancers, Amu and her friends, and she laughed and smiled with gratitude for them, almost forgetting her heartbreak, but when a concert agent rushed past them, screaming into his headset to get Utau ready faster because “that damn violinist cancelled his opening act,” Amu’s heart tightened, and she took a bathroom break that became a long walk by herself.
She hadn’t meant to travel so far, all the way to the abandoned fence at the edge of the festival grounds, but she had found what her heart was searching for: Tadase, head down, covered in shadow and gloom. Oh, how she had run to him, so determined to set things straight and heal both their aching hearts once and for all! But when she had met his eyes, she had met with a crazed glare, piercing her from under disheveled hair.
“Oh, you finally showed up,” he had almost growled, as if he was so angry he didn’t even see her worth talking to as a person anymore. Amu’s stomach had been filled with so much dread, but still she must push on!
“Tadase-“
“Do you really only drink milk after a bath? Should I have waited to get you chocolate till you bathed? Would you have drank it then?”
“Tadase, I-“
“Why the hell do you let him talk to you like that? Do you like that?”
“No one can stop his teasing! You know that! It’s not like it means anything! He’s a adult, for heaven’s sake! An immature one, but an adult! He’s not…not like us!”
“It’s not just him! Everyone loves you, and you just let it happen like you like all the attention! What about Kairi? He confessed to you, didn’t he? Did you ever actually tell him no?”
“He…he didn’t really give me a chance to before he left, did he?” She stammered, not understanding just what he thought was going on. “Besides, I think choosing you is a clear enough rej-“
“And Kukai liked you too! Did you pretend not to notice?”
“What are you-? Kukai-kun is with Utau-chan!”
“And have you seen the way Nagihiko looks at you? Although it’s not surprising; you even spent the night at his house!”
“We thought he was a girl and you know it! Don’t you dare…Nagihi-no, Nadeshiko was my best friend!” This was when she had started to cry. Amu cared for Nagi-kun, and was happy he could be his true self. But at that time, Amu was still feeling the lost of her first female best friend.
Her tears had only made Tadase snarl. “And now you cry for him?! You cry for Nagi, for Ikuto, who won’t you cry for?” and after a pause, “you were supposed to be mine only, but who doesn’t your heart belong to?” And then he had grabbed her wrist, holding it over her head, backing her up against the fence.
“Tadase, you’re hurting me!” she had screamed into vacant space, all festival-goers still at the concert. She had struggled against his grip, only to have her other wrist captured and pinned to the fence, escape impossible.
“But you let Ikuto do this all the time, don’t you? Am I not good enough? Should I try harder?” His grip even tighter, Amu was crying. She had wanted to scream that he wasn’t making any sense, that this wasn’t the Tadase she knew. She wanted to beg for her old Tadase back, but she couldn’t speak; her words were drowned out by fear and pain. Through her tears, the world had appeared to be spinning in front of her, swallowing her. Even Kiseki had begged Tadase to stop, insisting that rule by fear was not the way to get real control of the world or even one person in it, but, in that moment, Tadase rejected his guardian character as “weak,” declaring that he would be a king by his own strength. Amu had watched as Kiseki was forced back into his egg only to disintegrate forever, destroyed by Tadase’s will that was still strangling Amu, nearly breaking her wrists. Meanwhile, Ran, Miki, Su, and Dia were screaming for Amu to transform, but she couldn’t reach her Humpty Lock in her captivity. And even if she had been able to, could Amu really turn her guardian characters on the boy who taught her to accept them in the first place; did she truly have it in her him, even then?
She had never been forced to decide. Tadase had been suddenly thrown backward through the air, crumpling in a heap on the ground. Without Kiseki, he no longer had the heightened resistance to physical damage granted to guardian bearers. Even so, he had raised his bleeding head only to meet the iron claws of Ikuto’s character transformation preventing any further attack. Amu had approached cautiously, the arm Ikuto spread out to block her from Tadase’s reach unnecessary; her throbbing wrists reminded her not to get any closer. There had been a moment of silence that felt absolutely endless, where Amu was swimming in so many nightmares all swirling together right in front of her while she searched in vain for some piece of…something…something that made sense for her to cling to in this upheaved world. She couldn’t even look up as she said the only words that felt so heartbreakingly right: “Tadase, I…can’t do this anymore. Please don’t ever come near me again.”
And then she had run, unable to face Tadase, Ikuto, her friends, anyone. She ran all the way home, all the way upstairs and to her room, unable to face her alarmed parents or whimpering sister. And how could she have, how could she explain the dreadful things that had just happened when she couldn’t even make sense of them herself? Even her four would-be selves had been unable to offer useful words, and so just waited with her, silent, sad, scared as she was.
How long had she been there, braced against her door as if she could keep the hurt out? An eternity? Two? More? before her mother knocked gently on the door, promising they could talk when she was ready, but a bath and some sleep would help her most. She had also assured her that when her worried friends had called, she had let them know Amu was safe and just needed some rest. In that moment, Amu had been so grateful for her mother’s gentle understanding nature that she followed her suggestion and took a bath, massaging her bruised wrists as the hot water wore away at some of the despair. When she had emerged, a glass of milk was waiting on her desk, and Amu even had even managed a smile at her mother’s thoughtfulness. She had taken the milk to her balcony and the refreshing night breeze, only to see Ikuto sitting on the railing, feet hanging over the street below. As she stood in the doorway in shock, he had turned to face her, tears streaking his face.
“I’m sorry.”
His voice came out as nothing but a hoarse whisper. She knew he wasn’t just apologizing for what had happened to her, but she also felt it was for something other than the teasing that had caused it. She didn’t entirely understand what he was apologizing for that could move him to tears like this, nor did she want to know at that moment. On top of everything that had happened already, this was just too much.
“Amu, what do I do?”
“I don’t know Ikuto. I’m just a kid. I don’t know.” She couldn’t stand his long, sad gaze, wanting something from her she could neither understand nor provide. “Please go,” she had whispered, unsure of her words at first, and then, louder and with more conviction, “please.”
Her final glimpse of Ikuto was still burned into her mind. A smile so wide, not his usual teasing grin, but a genuinely kind, well-wishing smile, one concealing so much pain. His eyes closed, shutting in the rest of his tears as his face still glistened. “Hurry and grow up, Amu.” An uncharacteristically gentle voice, cracking at the end. And then he had jumped to the ground and leapt away into the night, his silhouette revealing the cat’s ears and tail of his would-be self.
The coming days and weeks would involve doctor visits, calls to Tadase’s parents, and many precautions in place for Amu’s safety: her parents working more from home, her friends accompanying her to and from school, and the watchful eyes of Nikaido-sensei and Tsukasa-san over her as she continued to study.
Tadase would never speak to her again, either because he was decent enough to at least do that for her, or because he knew how well protected she was and was afraid to approach her. Amu had been so shocked, scared, and heartbroken during that time, but she had so many people supporting her along the way, that she eventually learned to feel normal and once again began to shine with hope for the future. By the time she left for her new world a year and a half later, she had become able to talk about Tadase, both the good and bad, just like every other piece of her past. When her new friend Berkeley had asked if she had ever dated before, she was able to her the honest story of Tadase, a kind boy with so much love to give that it had consumed him and made him sick.
She left Ikuto out of the story, though she had thought about him for a long time, perhaps even longer than she had about Tadase. Not that it meant anything, of course. It was simply that her situation with Tadase was clear. She could mull over what had caused it or what could have been different, and she had, but the fact was that he had hurt her and she could not safely be around him anymore. There was no point in further speculation.
But Amu had struggled more to put Ikuto out of her mind. She could tell that night that there was so much more he had wanted to say, but she herself had silenced his words, that secret heart she couldn’t carry back then. But she couldn’t help wondering just what was in that heart, and how did it concern her? Would he ever tell her now? Why hadn’t she listened when she had the chance, before he had stopped talking to her?
She would hear he was back in Europe, still searching for his father and becoming quite a popular performer, but she would receive no more pictures of his travels, no more blurry phone recordings of his cabaret concerts, no more questions about school and if she was grown up yet, no more teasing. Nothing. She had half expected him to arrive uninvited when her friends threw her a going away party the weekend before she left for America. But he did not, and after leaving for a corner of the Earth so far away he couldn’t possibly reach, he eventually faded from her thoughts. Maybe that was for the best. She had so much to be getting on with; she couldn’t spend what little was left of her childhood haunted by that enigma of a man, teasing yet protective, that sad smile, that melancholy melody pulling on her heart….
Amu hadn’t realized that she was now a considerable number of paces behind her friends, or that there were tears in her eyes. Berkeley and Suzie looked back at her, concern on their faces. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry; I think some of that concrete powder or whatever got in my eyes!” She pointed to the taped off area about twenty feet behind them, where two construction workers drilled into the ground with a jackhammer, and started to laugh. Suzie, bless her heart, pulled out a handkerchief, with which Amu pretended to wipe specks from her eyes. Berkeley gave her that knowing gaze, and Amu laughed sheepishly, knowing she had some explaining to do later. When she had recovered herself, they walked the remaining block to the studio and checked in at the table outside.
“Ah, Miss Chen, Mrs. Mansfield had to take her maternity leave early, but the substitute for your class agreed to start covering early, so you will be in good hands.”
“Thank you very much, Mr. Nishida,” said Suzie in her sweet, refined voice to the studio manager. “Is everything all right with Mrs. Mansfield?”
“Baby came a bit early, but all is well. A healthy boy. Mrs. Mansfield will be back with us in about two months, after she’s had time to settle in. It’s her first, after all!”
“Of course, thank you so much for taking such good care of us all. Please send my regards to Mrs. Mansfield.”
“Surely, Miss Chen. Now, are these two sweet friends of yours here for today’s promotional lessons?”
“Yes, Mr. Nishida. Amu Hinamori and Berkeley Walker. Would it trouble Mrs. Mansfield’s substitute to take them in my class for the day?
“I’m sure it would be fine. He may be a bit rough-looking, but he seems like the type who can handle himself well. Now, Miss Hinamori and Miss Walker, loaner violins are available by the table at the start of the main hall. Once you’ve got those, just follow Suzie and let her teacher know you’re promotional students today. Have a great time and welcome!”
After they got their violins, they filed into Suzie’s class, gushing about what a sweet gentleman Mr. Nishida was, calling them “Miss!” Suzie explained that while Mr. Nishida was a very sweet man indeed, it was common, even expected, to call music students “Mr.” and “Miss,” rather than by the more common first name. Berkeley exclaimed “wow, so proper!” in wide-eyed amazement, while Amu was reminded fondly of the honorifics of her native Japan. The substitute appeared to be a few minutes late, so the girls watched as Suzie set up her instrument and attempted to copy her movements. How does she make poise look so easy, wondered Amu in admiration and slight embarrassment at her own awkwardness. Suzie assured her and the equally struggling Berkeley that it was quite normal; she had struggled at first too. The girls all giggled, having fun in this sweet moment together.
And then he appeared at the front of the classroom. His entrance had been silent, so few students noticed amidst the hubbub, and Amu might not have either if the corner of her eye had not been positioned just so at just the right moment. Tall, lanky frame clad in baggy gray and black plaid slacks, draped over an incredibly scuffed pair of black boots. A wrinkled and faded black button-up shirt, untucked, sleeves rolled up, top button undone to expose a bulky silver cross. Long indigo hair, only partially captured by the loose ponytail at the back, the rest falling into his deep blue eyes, framed by severe-looking black-rimmed reading glasses that actually dressed up the rest of his rumpled outfit. Those piercing midnight blue eyes, open wide in a shock that mirrored Amu’s own, boring into her soul to call back unanswered questions she had abandoned long ago.
Amu almost dropped her violin as he made his way to her, ignoring other students’ gossiping and giggling, the fiddling with instruments, and other reminders of the present world, suddenly far too mundane to contain this moment. He stopped a foot in front of her, leaning over her wide-eyed, upturned face, searching it as if he had left some sort of truth there long ago. Berkeley looked from one to the other with a slightly raised eyebrow, the only giveaway that her curiosity was anything more than mild.
Suzie was the one to break the silence with a soft greeting: “Um, excuse me, sir, are you the substitute instructor for this class?” He finally removed his intense gaze from flushed, trembling Amu to glance at her. When he said nothing, she continued “…I’m Suzie Chen of Mrs. Mansfield’s class, and these are my friends Amu Hinamori and Berkeley Walker, here to receive promotional lessons today. Thank you for taking over the class on such a hectic day, and if you need any help during class, please feel free to call on me.” He stared at her for a few seconds, his true attention still obviously on Amu.
“Yo, Amu,” he said, recovering some of his old confidence, but not the hint of teasing his voice had always carried. No, this was more reserved and polite, even despite the familiar language. Then, turning to Suzue, “thank you, Miss Suzie. I gladly accept your care.
He then strode back to the front to call class to order. “Attention, everyone. Class will now begin. I will start with roll call, first the studio members and then the promotional visitors. Listen up for your name.” Seeing the looks off confusion, he added, “oh yeah, Mrs. Mansfield took an early maternity leave, so for the next two months, starting today, you will be in my care. I have performed on stages in Japan, Europe, Australia, and the United States, both as a soloist and as a member of an orchestra. I have a recorded solo album and appear in six orchestral albums. I am currently working on my second solo album and collaborating with the Indie rock band Stray-t and Narrow, Stray-t spelled S-t-r-a-y-hyphen-t. We will be opening for the world-famous Utau Hoshina this weekend at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. Is there anyone who does not believe I possess the qualifications needed to lead this class?” At the end his voice took on an icy edge, as if daring anyone to speak out against him. When no one did, he continued: “My name is Ikuto Tsukiyomi, you can call me by first or last name. I’m here to teach you music, not some stuffy outdated etiquette. You want that, go to finishing school.” Then, locking his fierce gaze on Amu, concluded, “Let’s get started.”
Amu, trembling, struggled even more than before to position her instrument. Her mind was all at once racing at light speed and standing dead still. Her heart was pounding against her chest, and her blood coursed in her ears, dizzying her. How can he be all the way here, after all this time? What do I say? What do I do? How do I act? Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Suzie chuckled nervously, probably uncomfortable with the coarse character of her new instructor, and confused about the way he was treating her frazzled friend. Berkeley’s stare rested on the strange man as she nonchalantly whispered under her breath, “So that’s Ikuto, huh? Well, this ought to be interesting….”
Your blog is an absolute delight to browse through <33333
I adore your OCs. They all have their individual quirks and seeing you write them is a treat.
If you are accepting requests, I was wondering if you could do some reverse comfort for your OCs? Where they're not having a good day and their s/o comforts them.
I love yandere content but I am still a sucker for that good wholesome stuff :).
Tumblr media
I absolutely love this
Also Was unsure if I should add salem in this cause a lot of people sent hate about him since i Introduced him cause he's disgusting but i did add him cause I love him and he needs love and support
Story contains: some angst, talk of self harm, fluffy fluff, soft boys
Tumblr media
Theodore
You've never seen theo angry ever since you two got together but today he seemed to be stressed out, he was studying for a test and from the sounds of it he was going crazy. You walked towards the room only to hear a loud crash which made you jump and you rushed in
Theo had thrown his glasses across the room now sitting in the chair with his head in his hands a shaky sigh escaping him.
"im never going to get it, damn it.."
You looked at the papers scattered about and it looked like some intense stuff, you walked towards theo and hugged him from behind.
"take a break.."
Theo chuckled lightly before he leaned back looking in your eyes, it was clear he hasn't slept in a while.
"you know i can't do that angel, you get to bed though it's late"
You moved onto theo's lap which he allowed, he shivered lightly at the stern look in your eyes since he never seen you look this serious. He tried to settle your worries by giving you soft kisses on your neck but it seems you weren't easy to sway.
"theodore, I want you to get into bed with me and sleep right now."
The male sighed and looked at the clock on the study desk seeing it was about 2am, he did want sleep but he was far too worried about not passing to even think about it.
"sweetie, I have to study. How will I be a good husband if I don't finish college?"
"who says you arent already a good husband?"
Your words shocked him and he stared at you with a confused look before you lovingly wrap your arms around his neck and planting a soft kiss onto his lips.
"you're perfect theo, you don't have to constantly prove it okay? Don't ever doubt that."
Theodore was silent after that and he buried his face in your neck with a low hum, he truly didn't deserve you.
"you think I'm perfect?"
"of course I do, I love you so come and get some rest"
Theo decided to give in and lay down with you and for some reason when he did all those worries drifted away.
Hikaru
Hikaru didnt have time feeling sad, he was a model not to mention a public figure. He never lets you see that side of him unless it's to lash out at you but he onky does that in anger. Today was different, he was quiet today which Definitely wasn't like him
"hey, [y/n]?"
You looked up from your phone to look at the male who just got out the shower his hair still damp and he only wore sweatpants
"what's wrong? Want me to dry your hair again? You should put on a shirt before you get sick"
Hikaru said nothing and simply walked towards you and hugged you close making you both fall back on the bed, the shocked you and you started to pat hikaru on the back trying to get him off.
"h-hey! Are you okay? Are you sick?! Hikaru?!"
"I'm..sorry I'm really sorry, [y/n] dont leave cause I'm really sorry"
He was making zero sense and it only concerned you more but you heard sniffling which made you now freaked out so you softly pulled him back seeing tears rolling down his face.
"hey, why are you crying? What's wrong hikaru?"
The male sat up now sittinf on his knees and he kept his head down letting his hair cover his face as he tried to stop crying.
"I know you dont really love me, I'm mean and cold and awful. You want to leave don't you? But- but I don't want you to go! Im sorry I don't know how to love you i just don't know!"
Hikaru sounded an absolute mess and you didn't know where this was coming from but he simply out the male close into a hug letting him nuzzle his face into your chest as you played with his slightly damp hair.
"yeah, you are mean and cold..but I love you. You can be so sweet and really fun to be with, hikaru Im not going to leave no matter what"
"r-really? No matter what?"
"of course! After all without you my sense of style would be a mess!"
You heard a muffled chuckle escaping him as he hugged you tightly now resting his head on your chest
"you're an idiot."
With a cocky grin you poked his cheek earning a hushed whine of discomfort from you which you found adorable
"but I'm your idiot, so you're stuck with me!"
Axis
Axis is the type where he will tell you when he's sad, he's a crybaby so he will absolutely let you know when he needs comfort. So when the male popped up while you were thinking about what to do for dinner you figured he was feeling down
"what's wrong ax?"
"artblock..I have to come up with a new piece but i have nothing"
You gave a small hum before stopping and turned around wrapping your arms around him.
"well, how about we go on a date tonight we can go out to eat and do a bunch of fun stuff.."
"like fireworks?!"
You sighed loudly at your boyfriend's obsession with fireworks and decided to please him and his wishes
"we can get sparklers and small stuff okay?"
Axis smiled brightly and kissed your cheek over and over.
"date night date night!"
He started chanting like a child and you couldn't help but laugh at his antics but you were glad he wasn't sad anymore.
Prince
Prince hides his insecurities very well with flirting and smooth words, he likes you to think that he's all okay. you noticed he was far more clumsy today with things, it went from simply dropping things to full on tripping and falling.
Prince winced as he tripped and fell ontop of you earning an annoyed huff from you as you glared up at him for of his weird behavior that he brushes aside like its nothing
"prince what the hell is going on? You're being weird today"
Prince looked down at you before letting out a loud groan before nuzzling his face into your neck feeling quite embarrassed
"I'm scared..of our future"
"why would that scare you?"
Prince picked his head up and had a slight pout before he glanced away being unsure of how to put his words together.
"you're my first real serious relationship..what if I screw up?"
"oh princey.."
Your soft cooing made him even more embarrassed and he groaned while laying his face in your chest.
"you're amazing and great and I'm just..me!"
You simply messed with his hair finding his remark to be pretty dumb but you excused it cause he looked far too cute when pouty.
"prince, I love you forever and ever you aren't going to screw it up"
After a few minutes of silence he popped up and hopped to his feet with newfound energy
"you're right! I mean I'm pretty great! I bet you wanna marry me cause I'm so handsome!"
Well he was definitely back to normal
Yuki
It honestly took you weeks to figure out yuki was upset cause he is the master of hiding his emotions. He never shows many emotions besides a smile when around you or a glare when around strangers.
of course he doesn't talk about his feelings at all either so you are blissfully unaware of how he feels, until he slipped up and finally broke.
You had come home from shopping when you noticed how quiet the house was which was normal but it had an eerie feeling to it.
"is he taking a nap? Hmm.."
You went to the room and opened the door to see yuki curled up in the bed, the light were off and he was pretty quiet so you assumed he was sleeping but as you started to get ready for a shower when a muffled sniffle made you turn back to yuki and you walked to him before softly moving the blankets only to get a slight sight of tears before he buried himself deeper into the pillow to hide.
"y-yuki?"
"go."
You sat on the bed now fully invested in helping him but you had a feeling you knew what was wrong, you softly rubbed his back seeing that he was sweaty and slightly shaking.
"you have a nightmare?"
There was silence before he nodded and you simply laid next to him facing his back and softly touching his back your gentle touch being enough to cheer him up.
When he turned to face you his eyes were puffy yet had bags under them, his hair was a mess and he was breathing harshly from fear.
"wanna talk about i-"
"no."
You gave a sigh and simply cuddled against him and closed your eyes, his body stiffened but quickly relaxed before he held you close and closed his eyes
"just rest then. I'm here now okay?"
"mhm.."
Yuki smiled as he buried his face in your hair taking in your scent and feeling his body settle against yours. He didn't need words of comfort or huge signs of affection this was all he needed..you being here helped him far more than any words can.
Salem
When salem breaks down it's heartbreaking and intense, he gets into these PTSD triggered panic attacks to the point where he just loses it.
You had left the house and left him alone, it was only for a few hours but when you came back the bedroom was trashed and salem was freaking out curled up in the corner.
"b-bad boy, very bad super bad..I've been so bad I'm so sorry sorry sorry sorry"
"salem!"
You rushed to him and sat on your knees infront of him seeing fresh bruises and marks on his face, he probably hurt himself again.
"salem, baby look at me"
"b-bad boy..bad boys deserve death"
He was definitely not listening and you totally needed to snap him out of it so you did the one thing you could think of...you slapped him.
It wasn't too hard but he definitely looked up at you in shock now focused on what you had to say.
"you're not in that dark place anymore salem, you're here with me and no one is dying okay?"
"b-but I'm a sinner, I'm disgusting, revolting, i-"
You cut him off by selling your lips against his roughly kissing him and settling him down.
When you pulled back you gave him a stern gaze not letting him spill anymore degrading words out.
"listen to me salem. I love you and all your weird quirks! I don't care what anyone else says you're my boyfriend and I love you more than anything okay?"
"y-your lips t-taste like sugar.."
With that he leaned forward trailing his tongue over your lips with a shaky laugh
"thank you, [y/n]"
How Golden Kamuy Outshines Competition
A Review
Tumblr media
-
“GORUDEEEEEEN KAMUUUUUUY!”
That’s how I first heard of Golden Kamuy – a male voice screaming its title in around 2-minute intervals. I was busy slurping ramen in the communal eating tent in Odori Park when it blared in my ear. All through the day, they played its trailer on the tent TVs over and over again. It seemed interesting, and it was quite apt to see it being promoted there - after all, we were surrounded by snow, in Hokkaido, where the story was set. I kept seeing it in bookstores and its artwas eye-catching. But as soon as I was back on home soil, my interest was gone.
Life caught right back up with me, so I forgot about Golden Kamuy completely. Not until I saw some artists I follow post amazing fan art of it on Twitter. They were all singing it praises and the official art was beautiful, so I thought, ‘aw heck, why not?’
Let me tell you: there are no reasons not to.
SUGIMOTO, THIS ISN’T SHOUNEN ANYMORE
I’m what you call a…sporadic manga reader. I’m not up to speed with manga trends and it can take me a while to catch up. I read stuff that get my attention and when they’re recommended by my friends (I still haven’t touched Boku no Hero Academia or Shokugeki no Soma, though). I also don’t limit myself to just one genre. There are months that I devour shoujo/josei manga, like Hana Nochi Hare and Dame na Watashi ni Koi wo Kudasai. Then I’d switch over to read through volumes upon volumes of shounen manga (hi, Gintama, Haikyuu). Then there are periods wherein I just don’t read at all, devoting my time to other activities instead.
Golden Kamuy, brainchild of artist Noda Satoru, is probably my first real foray into the seinen manga territory. The art, the storyline, the comedy, the stakes – every page told me that I wasn’t reading shounen anymore. Dick jokes weren’t dealt with caution. Gore was done with no shame. Raw Japanese scans didn’t have the hiragana reading aids. Strangely enough, it brought me back to all the titles I used to read when I was young. It made me realize all the stuff I was reading back then were very edgelord-esque and middle-school-syndrome-ish - the stuff of nightmares. Body horror, violence, gore, debauchery – CLAMP and Kaori Yuuki had primed my teenage self for all of them.
But at least, now, the edginess was dealt with a more mature hand.
Hence it was no surprise that Kamuy ignited a sense of familiarity. I had mellowed down when I grew up (it saddens me that I really am quite a grown-up now) and, in turn, settled for fun, cheerful, romantic manga (to keep the dreariness of everyday life away, I guess haha). I got used to leisurely pacing and lighthearted comedy. Reading Golden Kamuy felt like I skydived into the unforgiving arena I had left – an arena that had been made fresher, better.
SO FRESH, YOU’RE EATING IT RAW
What makes Kamuy an instant hit is its interesting combination of rarely-used elements. Post-War, Meiji-Era historical, early 1900s, hunting, Hokkaido, Ainu culture: can you really find another title that uses said mix? It’s no wonder people are attracted to the series.
It also helps that the art is just spectacular. Noda’s artistic skill shines through every page, chapter, and volume cover. His poses are dynamic, his coloring brave. Sometimes the color combinations he uses just scream modern, serving as nice contrasts to the story’s historical, traditional setting. His character designs are unique and fresh – more so their personalities. Sugimoto’s facial scars are refreshing to the eye; Tsurumi’s half-corrupted face paired with a metal plate is a design I’ve never seen before. His art style brings out his designs to life in a way only he can – we’ve all seen cross-dressing men and shaved-bald convicts before, but still he was able to make Ienaga and Shiraishi look striking.
The research that he has done to make the story believable is commendable. He even has his own Ainu and Russian language consultants. Each detail he adds in shows that every page is a product of hard work. He even features real buildings in Hokkaido and Otaru (I’ve also been to Otaru and it was nice to see it in the manga!). The information we learn from Noda’s usage of the Ainu culture, hunting practices, and military details – all of this, weaved in with an intricate, explosive plot, give us a series that feels…whole. Complete.
Kamuy also spreads word about the Ainu culture in a fun and entertaining way. I haven’t heard a lot about them in the series I’ve encountered – I’ve only heard of them through Rurouni Kenshin. Nothing since then. To see them in the spotlight is a breath of fresh air. Even the Ainu themselves feel the same way – apparently they told Noda that they didn’t want to be portrayed as discriminated anymore. They wanted strong Ainu characters, and boy, did Noda deliver.
NO-PARDON PLOTTING
Because of its seinen status, you can tell that Noda has no qualms about plotting and story structure. We’re given heavy-hitting story elements right off the bat: war vet undertakes a legendary treasure hunt to help the (stolen-by-his-friend) love of his life, requiring him to track down 24 of the most dangerous insane criminals to have ever walked Japan. It’s throwing punches right from the get-go. Kamuy doesn’t baby anyone (except for bear cubs). With its pacing, convoluted plot and bevy of interesting characters, it challenges the reader to not just enjoy, but to keep up. It’s unapologetic in everything that it does – character, story, and art.
CHARACTERS
Immortal War Vet, Morality Pet Minority Action Girl, Escape Sweet-tooth King, and so forth. They somehow fulfill stereotypes but at the same time, Noda manages to twist things to a whole new light. His milieu, too, aids in solidifying the characters he writes – the setting itself makes them unforgettable.
It is also in his cast that we see how unapologetic Noda is. Considering that Sugimoto is to track 24 of the most dangerous criminals in the country, Noda doesn’t shy away from showcasing every kind of evil that can exist within humans. We tackle lust, greed, wrath, and avarice with a dash more reality compared to the caricatures we often see in shounen manga. Those faint of heart and innocent countenance will have a hard time stomaching Noda’s cast as it unfolds. The more I read, the more I believe Noda probably has a subscription to the Crime Investigation channel (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). Truth be told, humans are very much capable of evil, and I’m not surprised that some of his villains are actually modeled after real-life criminals.
Notable characters:
IENAGA  - a cross between Erszebet Bathory (a countess who was known to kill virgins and bathed in their blood to remain beautiful) and of H.H. Holmes, a real-life owner of an actual murder hotel in the US during the 19th century. Ienaga’s first dungeon appearance made me flashback to some of mangaka Kaori Yuki’s ornate gorefests such as Count Cain, Angel Sanctuary, and Ludwig Revolution. Noda felt no shame when he drew each and every one of Ienaga’s murderscapes.
HENMI KAZUO – this one really made me blink when I was reading it. Serial killer Henmi Kazuo is an exploration of the depths of human depravity. Imagine, being stimulated by gore and the act of clinging to life the same way his brother did when a bear ate him. Damn, writing that sentence made me realize Noda just straight up doesn’t baby his audience. This is the stuff Netflix series Mindhunter would kill to have. This also would really need some real guts (pardon the pun) to execute.
SHITON – he also made me stop in my tracks. Shiton, a full-on bestiality-practicing scientist, was something I’ve never read about in any other manga at all. I’ve read about murderers and criminals and incestuous personalities (Kaori Yuki and George RR Martin weren’t shy about it at all), but this character was just sick. He’s a special type of crazy (although to be perfectly honest I am sure that somewhere in the world some sick human is partaking in stuff like this), and for Noda to actually use him in his manga just takes courage. He just has the balls to make you think twice, but hey, when you’re in seinen territory, everything seems to be a free-for-all. And let’s be real frank here – there’s just another level of human debauchery in real life that most people won’t even be able to stomach hearing about.
TSURUMI – Tsurumi is the stuff of legend. He reminds me the most of Col. Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, but with his insanity turned up into eleven. He also has shades of Leonardo’s character in Django Unchained, as well as other manic-type ‘villains’ that we’ve seen in other series. But his impulsiveness and flamboyant nature places him a cut above the rest. Noda also draws him so dynamically (seriously!) that whenever he appears, your eyes are just drawn to him.
Plus, I have to say that I’m really impressed with the level of real-world research that Noda uses in developing his characters. Tsurumi says that he has lost a part of his frontal lobe, which in turn affects his temper and his violent tendencies. This is actually true in real life, and has been seen in a high-profile murder case involving a famous football player in the United States. Because of the repetitive head injuries that the player received playing the sport, his own personality/temper had changed, and resulted him in killing his girlfriend in cold blood.
Of course we have the holy trinity of Sugimoto (classic lovable romantic badass war vet protagonist), Asirpa (butt-kicking girl-child) and Shiraishi (adorable slinky/comic relief), all gems in their own right. Noda has endeared them to us with the heartwarming dynamic between Sugimoto + Asirpa, plus Shiraishi’s antics. Character-wise, they seem to follow a specific trio formula that works in almost anything. Harry-Hermione-Ron, Gintoki-Kagura-Shinpachi, Naruto-Sakura-Sasuke. While his main character trio wins people over, his supporting cast can also shine bright on their own. Some great examples that come to mind are Ogata, Tanigaki, and Monkey-Scream Guy Otonoshin (even Tsukishima is memorable! He even has the Voldemort nose, doesn't he?).
Noda’s principle of mixing reality with caricature is also evident in his character designs. With every cast member we meet, it’s clear that Noda is far from being a sufferer of the six-faces-only syndrome. His designs do sometimes border on the impossible (Monkey-Scream guy’s eyebrows, really?), but it’s not a bad thing. If anything, it makes the visual experience of reading the comic even more worthwhile.
THE ART
Noda is a great manga artist. Let’s start with that.
This character design!!
I’ve been raving about his character designs for a few paragraphs now but it’s just really that good. I love his eye for composition and his impeccable framing for action and comedy. I’ve always thought that framing comics need special planning – especially action + comedy ones. You have to ensure that the first thing the reader sees in the next panel will make the action/joke understandable and clear. It takes great skill to decide what the reader sees and doesn’t see. Through Golden Kamuy’s 158 chapters, he makes use of this skill to make us laugh whenever Asirpa’s badgering them to make citatap, or when there’s a new animal part to eat, or when Tanigaki’s out showing nudes of himself to people. If the pages weren’t framed well, the jokes would’ve fallen flat. Let’s also not forget his adeptness in drawing facial expressions. This manga just does faces so well.
(Just look at Asirpa! collage c/o the Golden Kamuy reddit)
His fight scenes are also top-notch. You just know that Noda, as a mangaka, isn’t knocking about. The flow of action in every page is just downright superb. It also shows his mastery of human anatomy – and his courage when it comes to gore. His use of crisp blacks and whites, solid lineart, thick, expressive color give us pages that are fresh and clean...I’d be a fool to dismiss his technique, because his (and his studio’s, I guess?) skill just shines through every page.
He’s also not shy when it comes to details – which is admirable. After all, it takes some great dedication for someone to give his main character distinct facial scars that will require repeated drawings in almost every single page (and give his heroine a detailed headband). It makes me wonder just how he does it with a weekly schedule. His color pages look like they were done digitally, but I still have doubts whether or not he does his chapters by hand.
THE HEART
It took me just a few days to wolf down Kamuy. It was a romp right from the start – nail-biting, stomach-clutching, hair-raising. A truly entertaining piece, if you will. But if there’s one thing I’ve noticed with Kamuy, it’s that it somehow lacks heart.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s great! I love it. It’s superbly crafted, beautifully drawn, amazingly detailed. It’s one of the rare titles that I’m actually thinking of collecting. But it’s also a title that seems to drip technique. Like the author made it for the sake of drawing an intense, gripping title, but somehow solely for that purpose. It’s a career-conscious showcase of ability, a manufactured adventure in the truest sense. I couldn’t see the earnestness I found in Sorachi Hideaki’s Gintama, or the relatability of Nakahara Aya’s  Dame na Watashi wo Koishite Kudasai. Full Metal Alchemist showed Arakawa Hiromu’s passion for muscled men, her interest in alchemy, and views on family, while Haruichi Furudate’s love for volleyball, sportsmanship and camaraderie is undeniable in Haikyuu!!. While I do like the backstory that Sugimoto is somehow based on his real-life war-vet grandfather, I find it a bit sad that it seems to lack that personal touch I’ve always liked seeing in other manga.
But it doesn’t mean that it’s not great. I will still recommend it to everyone I know. Awesome story, great art, refreshing comedy. By all means, read it! (Not sure about the anime, but I keep hearing reviews that we’re better off with the manga). Golden Kamuy is a title of both style and substance – whether it’s about the gore or the gold, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
Then let me know if you agree with my upcoming post, an analysis of Sugimoto and Asirpa.
