Ranking EVERY Demigod PJatO Introduced
Tumblr media
We know literally nothing about this kid except Percy thinks he's one of the most troublesome Ares kids. Would've been interested to see him actually do anything but since that never happens, at the very bottom of the list he sits.
Tumblr media
We know slightly more about Castor than Mark, which is why he's only slightly higher than him. I really think Castor had potential to be interesting; Percy describes him and his brother as pretty capable fighters but we don't even find out this dude's name until AFTER he dies.
Tumblr media
Phoebe actually gets characterization - she's pretty tough but a poor judge of character. If she'd actually gotten to go on the joint campers and Hunters quest she'd easily have ranked higher, but she basically disappears from the narrative until it's time for Rick to kill her off, and since we don't care about her, she gets this spot.
Tumblr media
I doubt this'll be TOO controversial, but even though Jake seems like a pretty standup guy, he's just SO. BORING. He's Charles Beckendorf's replacement once that mainstay gets hit by the Black Dude Dies First trope but he's just kind of here to be shown up by every other Hephaestus kid who gets introduced. The only particularly interesting thing about him is that he's recently been Dumbledore'd.
Tumblr media
This guy only recently got the barest amount of characterization in The Tower of Nero. He seems to be your typical Athena kid, so he's only really here because he still exists in the narrative and could potentially be more interesting in the future now that's he's been Dumbledore'd in The Sun and the Star.
Tumblr media
Compared to everyone else so far, we know QUITE a lot about Sherman, surprisingly. He's incredibly rowdy, probably the meanest Ares kid now that Mark and Clarisse are gone and he's got a girlfriend so clearly he's not all bad. But still, the only actual pagetime Sherman's makes him out to be a typical Ares kid, so we'll have to see if there's anything more interesting there.
Tumblr media
Pollux is another low-scoring character we know quite a bit about. He feels bad about his brother's death, he's a good fighter and he's got to be pretty capable all around to have survived to adulthood as a demigod (he's 18 in The Last Olympian). But Pollux seems to only exist as a way to humanize Dionysus. There's substance here, but as he hasn't reappeared, and in the canon of the series he's pretty much aged out of godly camping, he'll likely never return to the limelight to get any more love.
Tumblr media
Here it is. The nuclear hot take. The Sun and the Star was the death knell for Will's character in my eyes. If Oshiro had opted to make Will the deuteragonist a la Sadie, he'd be much, much higher as we'd have been forced to see things from his perspective for longer than a few paragraphs every chapter and thusly they would have had to actually make him interesting. As it stands, Will has thousands more words dedicated to him than anyone else this low... but it's regarding his relationship, NOT him as a character. 400 pages later and we barely know anything about him other than he likes kissing Nico and enjoys being a living accessory to his boyfriend. He's just not interesting.
Tumblr media
Next up is the second of the four named Apollo campers introduced to us in TLO. Austin is pretty interchangeable with the next rank on the list, but we know exactly as much about Austin as we do about Will (you KNOW it's true) but Austin is younger and thusly might actually get to be interesting in a future book if Will ever ages out.
Tumblr media
The third named Apollo camper TLO gave us. Kayla outranks Will and Austin because we know exactly as much about each of them but she was the first one to canonize the long-held fanon that gods can obviously have children with mortals of the same sex because duh. I LOVED this development because it blows the doors off of what we know about the world. Imagine having two dads in 1890s Camp Half-Blood? Also she's younger than Will and has a longer time to potentially become interesting in her own right.
Tumblr media
What little we see of Katie is - say it with me now - interesting. Extremely so. She's got a rivalry against the Stolls (for a very stupid reason, but hey) and she isn't afraid of voicing her opinions even if it may be the cause of discord. You get the feeling that she's a victim of Rick's laissez-faire attitude toward his canon since she's shown up since Miranda took over the Head Counselorship so who knows what's going on with our girl.
Tumblr media
Michael is the fourth Apollo kid introduced in The Last Olympian. Obviously we know he amounts to another Cabin Seven camper offered up on the pyre of Rick wanting there to be stakes. We know very little about Michael canonically. We know he's short, which is kind of cool because that's rarely seen in YA guys his age, we know he's pretty mature, willing to give up his spoils so Clarisse will actually fight in the war with them, and dude is about that life to the end.
Tumblr media
Lee quite literally came out of nowhere in The Battle of the Labyrinth, and the guy had so much potential to be an incredibly fun character. He's shown to be courageous enough to lead his own missions and isn't even afraid of dragons, can stand side-by-side with Clarisse of all people and is, obviously, an amazing archer. But of course he's only introduced to be killed off and give BotL some stakes. We may have been robbed, but for a glorious moment we were rich.
Tumblr media
Chris is a minor character but is easily one of the most fleshed-out and developed characters in the entire PJatO series, and we barely see him! Doomed to madness by investigating the Labyrinth, he's rescued and eventually becomes Clarisse's beau. There's so much potential for intriguing exploration of this guy but even though he's definitely left godly camping behind there's plenty of depth here.
Tumblr media
We're roughly halfway through the list, and here's Luke nearly bringing up the rear. I think Luke's biggest minus in my eyes is that he feels perfunctory as an antagonist. The coolest thing about him is his betrayal of Percy at the end of TLT for the prophecy twist. Luke fails on so many levels for me: he's not menacing, because he never beats Percy in combat when it matters and it's revealed he's actually afraid of Percy. He's not an obstacle to Percabeth because he's a literal adult the entire series and a bunch of people have to die before he learns one of the biggest evildoers in Greek myths is... a bad guy. Backbiter's awesome, though.
Tumblr media
If Bianca hadn't been fridged, she could've gone to so many more places as a character. After being parentified since she was Elementary School-aged, her making an incredibly selfish decision for her own sake was sooo delicious. Ultimately, and sadly, she was the prototype for Jason in that her only real lasting impression on the story was the effect her death had on other characters.
Tumblr media
Nico's powerful. He's traumatized. But for me, it was his friendship with Percy and his finding his own way as a young, untrained half-blood that was his most interesting point in time. Nico was Percy who turned his back on Camp Half-Blood at a time when it was most crucial to him, and as Nico became more and more open and bonded more and more, his character has been in this sort of weird position, where sometimes the narrative treats him like he's edgy and other times he's got a Damian Wayne coming-out-of-his-shell sort of rapport with whoever he happens to be speaking with at the time.
Tumblr media
Silena's biggest downside is that we barely get any time between the reveal that she's a traitor and her death. The whole time she's pretty much a nice Aphrodite kid we know her as and basically nothing else. Still, there's a very interesting story there if we ever get to have it explored. She had to have been tortured on the inside for years. I do dislike how it's implied she was attracted to Luke, though.
Tumblr media
One half of the most fun duo in the original series. Connor loses points for me because he acts like his funny bone broke the moment his brother went off to college in the sequel series. If Rick wanted to pass the torch to Alice and Julia he could've been a bit less blatant about it. But still, Connor is a quintessential Hermes kid and oozes personality.
Tumblr media
Rick's adherence to a seasonal timetable is easily why Thalia loses out for me. We jump from her being resurrected in the final pages of SoM to her simply being One Of The Gang by the opening of TC. Obviously she gets a whole book to have her character shown off to us, and she's pretty cool, but Thalia's character is frozen as Lieutenant of Artemis for the foreseeable future.
Tumblr media
His death hits the hardest in the series. He was a heroic character the entire time who didn't die in the same book he was introduced, and even though he was a victim of Black Dude Dies First AND The Worf Effect, everyone remembers his sacrifice. Plus, if you read the companion books, it's obvious Percy and Beckendorf are much closer than the limited timeframe of the books show. After all, Beckendorf knew about Percy's crush on Annabeth; the ONLY person aside from maybe Grover up until the end of TLO.
Tumblr media
Travis is one of the most fully-realized demigods we're introduced to in the series. Like his brother, he's an incredibly capable half-blood, skilled with the gifts his godly parentage imbues him with, a good fighter in his own right, an amazing sense of humor with being the life of the party AND he was no doubt all of that in his personal life on top of being smart enough to get into college.
Tumblr media
Wise Girl herself. You may be surprised that she isn't number one or two on this list, but I still like her a lot. Annabeth is a unparalleled in her resourcefulness and ingenuity even if she's one of the least powerful demigods that we follow. She gets to shine so effectively because we can count on her to carve out things for herself rather than needing contrived reasons for someone who can hit harder to get out of her way first.
Tumblr media
Percy is an amazing character. Funny, strong, friendly, you couldn't find a better hero than him. We spend so much time in his head, feeling things the way he does, seeing things the he does, you can't dislike this guy. But yeah, he's not my favorite. Honestly, it may be overexposure. As more and more novels, our plot armored, untouchable ultimate good guy shows up more and more often. With there being fewer and fewer places for his character to go, it becomes less and less interesting to see him.
Tumblr media
Number Two is Clarisse. I'll never forget being in Middle School and reading The Lightning Thief and seeing that Percy's bully was a girl. As a young teen non-reader, this was mind-blowing. Clarisse was COOL. And my favorite, most unexpected part of The Sea of Monsters was the quest actually being hers. She was such a well-rounded character, even if her choice to let Kronos take over the world over unseen "disrespect" felt INCREDIBLY contrived, I still love her.
Tumblr media
My favorite demigod introduced in the PJatO era is Ethan Nakamura. Everything I loved about Chris I adore in Ethan. This guy had so much story to him and is one of the only characters who you could write a book series parallel to Percy's series about and have it be gripping. Ethan's never presented as a serious challenge martially to Percy so he avoids that particular pitfall of Luke, and he's a sharper example of the gods' being uncaring causing their kids to turn against them. He's just another demigod with no grander purpose fighting on the wrong side.

Ok, here we go. Dark!Bianca idea. Shortly after the events in the desert, a severely injured Bianca is found by agents of the Titans who were shadowing the quest party off-page. She is brought back to Titan HQ and is convinced to join their crusade against the gods while her friends and family think she's dead. Jump ahead to BotL, instead of Kelli the Empousa, it is a mysterious masked assassin who attacks Percy and Rachel at Goode. The events mostly play out unchanged until Geryon's (1/8)
ranch, where instead of Bianca, it is the ghost of Maria di Angelo who is revealed to be sending Iris messages to Percy about Nico, while also strongly hinting that Bianca's still alive. Jump ahead to Mt St. Helens, Percy fights the assassin again, and during his stint on Ogygia, Percy begins to put two and two together after the assassin demonstrated skills similar to the Hunters. At Antaeus' Arena, the assassin is finally unmasked to reveal a still-alive but scarred Bianca, replacing (2/8)
Ethan Nakamura as the demigod enforcer. Percy is convinced that Bianca is being mind-controlled and goes to Mt Tam to rescue her as well as stop Kronos. However, when he confronts her, Bianca reveals that she's operating of her own free will, feeling vengeful against the gods for robbing her of her life and having pledged her loyalty to her new Titan master. Kronos intends to make Bianca the prophesy kid, promising her the free will she craves so badly as well as promising not to hurt (3/8)
Nico. Going into the Last Olympian, Percy and Nico are both determined to convince Bianca that she's making a mistake, and this time Nico's duplicity is not to simply learn about his mother but to try and summon her spirit to get through to Bianca. At the same time, Kronos gradually starts treating Bianca as less of an ally and more of a tool, and the Titans' actions cause her to have doubts even though she dosen't know what else to do. It all comes to a head in the final battle.(4/8)
Nico returns from the Underworld by himself early, giving Hades an ultimatum to come and fight or hide. Just before the final attack, Kronos sends Bianca to infiltrate Olympus to disable the magic defenses, but Nico arrives to intercept her and make one last bid to save her. They fight, with both begging the other to stand down even as they slug it out. Finally, just as Percy arrives to chase Kronos, the battered siblings' duel ends when Nico gives another ultimatum. He throws down his (5/8)
sword and gives Bianca, now reduced to fear and frustration-induced tears, the choice between perusing her grudge and allowing herself to continue being Kronos’s slave or doing the right thing. Finally able to make a legitimate choice of her own, Bianca chooses to turn her back on the Titans. She still ends up wounded, but unlike Ethan in canon, Nico manages to save his sister while Percy and Kronos have their final battle. After everything ends, Percy petitions for Bianca’s pardon along (6/8)
with the rest of his list, though Bianca turns it down, realizing the harm she almost caused to the person she loved more than anybody else. She is given a reduced sentence in service to her father, and though she does not properly forgive any of the gods that hurt her, she does recognize that the spite and anger she felt would only lead to more death. Nico gets to visit her occasionally, and she starts a road to redemption that Luke never got the chance to take. In HoO, Bianca is (7/8)
more of a background character, but it is she that finds Hazel in Asphodel and alerts Nico to her. Overall, dark!Bianca is an anti-villain who’s affiliation with Kronos is clearly drawn from her pain and grief over the gods’ interference in her life, but her saving grace is her brother. Nico manages to pull her out of the darkness and save her from becoming the same monster Luke became. What do you think? (bear in mind, this is my rough draft) (8/8)
Okay, WOW. Anon, I am actually going to start a petition to make you the new Percy Jackson author because that was such an interesting plot to read.
First of all, I love that you replaced Bianca with Ethan. As interesting as he was in the series, and as much as I loved his character, after reading through your rough draft, I feel like Bianca would have been a much better character to use throughout PJO. Her arc could have been expanded upon and completed thoroughly, and it could have made a lot of sense. Ethan felt more like a representation of "demigods turned to the other side," which I get is the point, but I loved the way you used Bianca because with your plot, her character could have been used so well to properly show how easily the Titan army manipulated kids.
Furthermore, I feel like your plot with Bianca could have been a much better way to use her character throughout the series. From my interpretation, in canon she seemed more like a stand-in tool just to enhance Nico's own character arc and his motives, but your plot for her would have actually given her some kind of foundation and an actual arc for her to go through. You've given her such an interesting character and I think it really provides more justice to what she could have been.
I also love the way that not only did you give her a better arc, but you also enhanced Nico's own arc and the plot, too. Her death in the books seemed more symbolic to him and a turning point in his character, but with her character in your AU, it's both important to Nico and Bianca. You've given her an actual character, and you've set up such an interesting conflict between Nico and Bianca.
Additionally, I love the divide you've created between them. I think that - based on what we know about her in the books - as much as she loves her brother, Bianca also feels very limited with him because of how she's been forced to grow up and be his savior. She understands that he's only a child, though, which I think could also play into her own hatred for the gods - they've not only destroyed her family, but now they're forcing her to take the role of an adult when she's a mere child, too? She was never angry at Nico - she was only ever mad with the gods.
Maybe that's something that Nico also feels bad about, and maybe he tells her about it when they're standing each other down. Maybe she lets him know that she never hated him or felt that he was bringing her down.
Also, I want to add that I adore the way you put them on opposite sides. It sets up such an interesting dynamic to their relationship because here you have two people who love each other so much, but they're on two different sides of a large war. They're both too stubborn to go onto each other's sides, and Nico knows Bianca's only going to get herself into more danger. I just love the potential that has for both of their characters.
I know Percy had a large fear about Nico being another kid to join Kronos' army, so I bet Bianca being on his team would have left Percy incredibly terrified for Nico, too, because he knew how much Nico loved Bianca. Would he have been nervous for Nico's ability to change his mind? Nico knows he'd never join Kronos, but would Percy have known?
And, knowing that Bianca's now on the Kronos side, how would Percy react? Because he felt pretty guilty about her death in TTC, right? Would he feel guilty that she's on the other side now, too? Would he try to reason with her, only to push her further away? I'd love to see how Percy would deal with knowing that Bianca - an important child of the Big Three - would react to her being there. He was already nervous about Nico joining sides, but having Bianca there would have really scared him.
And the part about Bianca finding Hazel instead of Nico? That was mind-blowing. I love everything about that situation because now that introduces Hazel into the narrative of Nico and Bianca's story. My question for you would be how does Hazel's character change now? How does she fit in with Nico and Bianca? Because in Heroes of Olympus she's clearly very insecure about her relationship with Nico and how he views her, but if she actually knew Bianca, how would she feel? Would she feel more left out (knowing that Bianca and Nico have known each other much longer and have a stronger connection with each other)? Would she be distrustful? And how would the three of them adapt to this additional family member? I have high hopes that by the end they would all love each other very much, but I'm just really curious into how Hazel's addition would influence the dynamic of all three.
And, essentially, it all ends into a somewhat win-win situation. Bianca's still living; Nico's got two new sisters; Hazel now has a new family.
I think this is such an interesting concept, and I'd love to read it. If you ever post it anywhere, please do share the link! This was such an intriguing plot to go through and, again, I think this could have been a much better use of Bianca's character.
Thank you so much for sharing it with me.

A list of my head cannons I’m writing out cause I’m bored.
the Greek Big Three kids look a lot like their godly parents.
The older Percy and Nico get the more they look like their fathers. It’s starting to creep Chiron out. Thalia has always been the spitting image of Zeus.
Chiron will see Percy on the beach from a distance and think it’s Poseidon talking to some campers so he’s like “what the heck is Poseidon doing at camp and what’s he talking about with the campers–oh no is something wrong is there another war in his domain” and he gets closer and it’s just Percy hanging out with his friends
One time Thalia was really riled up about something stupid for seemingly no reason, and Artemis said something like “okay calm down Zeus Junior”. That just made Thalia angrier and scarier so Artemis and the hunters are careful not to call her anything related to either of her parents.
Nico was just going to pop into the big house to ask him a quick question. As soon as he stepped out of the shadows Chiron flinched and dropped everything he was holding and bowed in respect and tried to stutter a formal greeting. When Nico asked what he’s was doing he looked up and said “di immortals I thought you were Hades you scared the crap out of me. What do you want?”
Also they get their height from godly parents.
Thalia is already pretty tall and close to Zeus’s height, would have been the same height if she had aged into adulthood. She’s about 5’9/5’10 Zeus is 6’0/6’1.
When their older and puberty is done with Percy is 6’0/6’1 and Nico is 6’2/6’3.
Right after Nico had his growth spurt Percy, Leo, Piper, Hazel, and Kayla were a little upset.
Percy just wasn’t used to having to look up at Nico, he eventually got over it.
Leo, Piper, Hazel and Kayla claimed Nico abandoned “short people club” just so he could become Vice President of the “tall people club”.
Whenever Will is losing a petty argument that doesn’t mean anything to Nico he uses Sharpe’s line on him “Evaporate tall person!” And sometimes Nicos is just like “okay” and shadow travels away.
The Apollo cabin basically adopts him as their close combat/sword fighting body guard. They can hold their own from a distance with their archery but when it comes to situations where archery isn’t an option Nicos the man they call
Nico May be very tall but that doesn’t stop him from being a cuddlebug. He tries to curl up in the laps of people he’s comfortable with or try to lay on top of them and he likes to be held. Especially if he’s sleepy and/or cold.
Nico is Vice President Because he’s the second tallest next to Frank who’s the President, he’s 6’4/6’5. Kayla is president of “short people club”, she’s 5’2/5’3 and Hazel and Leo are tied for Vice President at 5’3/5’4.
While we’re at it let’s name everyone else’s heights. Jason is 6’1/6’2. Piper is 5’3/5’4. Annabeth is 5’9/5’10. Reyna is 5’10/5’11. Calypso is 5’8/5’9. Austin is 5’7/5’8. Will is 5’8/5’9. Hylla is 5’10/5’11.
Nico still has the teddy bear he and Bianca shared named Sargent Teddy that he called Ted. When he first got to camp and stayed in the Hermes cabin the Stolls decided it would be funny to play a prank on him and replace Ted with a wad of dirty laundry while he was sleeping.
Then he had nightmares about Bianca dying and woke up screaming and crying and only got worse when he couldn’t find Ted, his only source of comfort at the time. Nico wasn’t comfortable enough with Connor and Travis to tell them about his nightmares yet so he didn’t tell them about Bianca.
The Stolls thought they had traumatized this poor little kid just by playing what was supposed to be a harmless prank and taking away a stupid teddy bear. They didn’t mean for him to totally freak out like that, if they’d known how badly Nico would have reacted they wouldn’t have done the stupid prank in the first place.
Once Nico had calmed down a little and stopped screaming Connor and Travis gave him a genuine apology and gave Ted back to him. Nico still didn’t say anything to them, just kept crying while holding Ted. He didn’t sleep at all the rest of the night, just cried.
In the morning if anyone asked him what happend he just said nightmares and didn’t get into it. The Stolls told him nightmares were normal for demigods and not to worry too much about it. But Nico wasn’t so sure. Something about that “nightmare” of Bianca dying just felt too realistic.
You remember how Annabeth played with Cerberus in the Lightning Theif for a minute? And how Mrs. O’Leary played with him too in The Last Olympian? Nico plays with him all the time too, and sometimes takes Annabeth and Mrs. O’Leary to the underworld for play dates.
Hades is fine with Mrs. O’Leary but very begrudgingly allows Annabeth down there, and only so she can continue training Cereberus. He’s been behaving better since the daughter of Athena started training him.
Hades would never allow Percy Jackson back into the underworld under any circumstances (unless he’s dead or in Tartarus)
Sorry this kinda got away from me, it’s just totally random thought and head cannons.

opinions on riordanverse ; my edition
a lot of people have been doing this so i decided why not right. probably gna lose some followers or smth but anyways. pls respect my opinions! if u disagree, thats fine, but please be polite. unless any of my opinions strikes u as morally wrong then pls point it out to me respectfully. thanks!
- i actually liked drew. im so sorry to everyone who hates her but full offence, why. think about it this way ok, first of all drew became hc because silena died. silena was the traitor, the one who betrayed chb, yet after she died campers celebrated her as a hero? and then drew suddenly has to replace her and live up to idk that legacy she left behind,, when all of a sudden this girl named piper swoops in and takes her place. idk abt u but i wld be salty abt that too. not only that, but as an asian, the chances of drew having faced racism/bullying as a child is pretty high (she studies at brooklyn academy). which means that when she finds out shes a demigod, and arrives at chb where most of the campers are white (this is an assumption btw), she’d obviously be scared of being bullied for her skin color right?? so the first thing she wld do before the campers get to bully her is to bully them before they can do so. (sentence structure here is wack i apologize) ofc this might not even have happened, drew could have had a perfect childhood && was a b1tch for no reason, BUT EVEN THEN HER ROLE AS A BULLY WAS PRETTY VITAL BECAUSE THAT FURTHER SHOWED THE CONTRAST BETWEEN HER AND PIPER,, HIGHLIGHTING PIPER AS A HERO//GOOD CHARACTER,, AND THEREFORE MAKING READERS LIKE PIPER MORE. anyway stop hating on drew please. ALSO WHY IS THIS SO LONGA SDFJHG
- jason isnt bland, the fandom just kinda erased his backstory (thanks to @pjohoo-memes for the phrasing lol)
- reynabeth wouldnt have lasted/would have broken up several times. idk i just see them as two extremely powerful characters who have firm opinions and will definitely clash at some point. in a platonic relationship,, i can see them as really good friends but as lovers? idk i just think theyll break up
- PIPABETH
- i dont really like jercy,, i see them as better friends than lovers. also idt jason and percy were that close..?
- the dam and not my type jokes are srsly cringey and were never funny. ik that seems hypocritical since my username literally makes use of the dam joke but honestly i dont actually like the joke. its not funny to me and has never been funny
- the seven were not best friends. they definitely argued,, and honestly probably werent as close as the fandom makes them seem. like ure dumped with 6 other people, out of which u only know a few. my introverted ass would have jumped off the argo 2 quicker than leo valdez could bomb camp jupiter up. also leo was a dick to frank. so what if frank is bigger sized?? thats not a valid reason to tease him
- the fandom needs to stop hating on octavian while worshipping luke. if u hate luke and u say u hate octavian too, then okay. but if u tell me ure a luke stan but u despise octavian?? imma disagree w u. luke was worse than octavian im sorry. first of all, octavian being a dick was kinda justified. hes been after the praetor position for so long, and everyone keeps saying to “wait for jason” when suddenly this dude, whos a son of NEPTUNE (neptune wasnt liked much by romans), and the camp decides to make him praetor?? dude i would be pissed off big time. and then afterwards, he finds out that greek demigods are real and the dude they made praetor is greek. AND THEN GREEK DEMIGODS COME TO CJ AND ONE OF THEM BOMB IT UP?? octavian has been told all his life that greeks are scum and this dude called leo valdez attacks cj. sure it was an accident, but did octavian know that? no. so it was honestly justified that he was such a salty prick im just saying. also some of yall be hating on octavian for cutting a teddy bear open and thats the funniest shit ive ever heard i swear
- luke didnt go to elysium
- travis and connor stoll r way too underrated. the two have been head counselors of the hermes cabin since luke was revealed as a traitor, can u imagine the stress? luke, the person they probably looked up to as a brother, betrayed them. and they didnt even have time to process this when they were  thrown the roles of being hcs. that would have been so stressful and i would probably have broken down if i were them. the stoll brothers taking turns to wake up at ungodly hours because a new camper is crying and homesick and terrified, the stoll brothers having to comfort and take care of new campers, having to deal with the amount of people in that cramped space because not enough campers are being claimed fast enough. having to resolve issues between campers in the hermes cabin all the time. the stolls arent just comedic relief, and we need to stop treating them as such
- tratie shldve been canon idc idc
- demigods of the demeter cabin arent talked about enough and i love the fact that meg was demeters kid. like she isnt the child of one of the big three yet shes so powerful.
- we need to hype clarisse up more her character arc was phucking amazing
- rachel is overhated. sis found out greek gods exist and regularly come down to earth to fuck around and went “ok cool”. queen shit behavior methinks
- the floor 19 crew of mcga is srsly underrated. like do u even remember halfborn gunderson, mallory keen, tj, etc??? bc i feel like we only remember samirah, magnus, alex, and sometimes blitz and hearthstone
- sadie (tkc) was kinda annoying at first. i like her more now tho but i rmb not liking her for a phat while
- tkc and mcga need more love
- carter kane and jason grace arent boring. theyre just really sweet boys who are too good for this world and yes yes yes
- hazel and frank (especially frank) need to be hyped up more. i hardly ever see anything about them. also yall seem to forget that frank was literally made praetor and that even hecate admired hazel and was willing to fight beside her because of how powerful she was
- frazels age gap is kinda sketch but i still think theyre really cute
- nico definitely had trauma from going to tartarus on his own
- GROVER IS PERCYS BEST FRIEND
- annabeth isnt smarter than leo but neither is leo smarter than annabeth. ive seen a lot of discussions about who is smarter and heres my hot take on it: neither. theyre equally smart, just in different ways. leos a genius mathematically speaking. he has no issues solving math problems meant for people much, much older than him. annabeth on the otherhand, is great at strategies etc. she can make an army of 1000 more powerful than the enemy, even if theyre outnumbered. so in my opinion, both are equally as smart//u cant compare their intelligence, because their talents lie in two different areas.
- while i do agree rick riordan isnt a god and that hes bound to make mistakes,, AND that hes given us a lot of representation,, if the representation offends the people its sposed to represent, then theres a problem. im talking about piper as a poc and wearing feathers in her hair. im not a poc, so i cant speak for them on whether or not its wrong, because i dont know either. HOWEVER, i have seen multiple posts BY pocs talking about how they didnt really like rick’s representation of piper, and thats an issue. pocs have been and are still oppressed and discriminated against by many. as a white cis man, we cant really blame him for not knowing (tho he could have done a research,, asked some pocs,, idk), but by representing pocs in that manner, hes influencing impressionable kids/teens into thinking “oh pocs wear feathers in their hair all the time” etc, which isnt true. the pjo/hoo series is extremely successful, and kids who read the books will probably start forming inaccurate opinions on pocs. the amount of fan art that depicts piper with feathers in her hair dont help either. “but rick said so in the books, so its canon” yeah well rick isnt a god and he can get some things wrong at times. im not saying we should cancel him, im saying we should start educating ourselves and not spread false info like pocs wearing feathers in their hair all the time. also that snake song shit where she sang Summertime was just- yeah. bc heres the thing you can be racist, and still include minorities, but portray them in a racist way. And even then, ignorance isn't a thing to admire. Getting those facts wrong still has a major impact. It continues to perpetuate racist stereotypes.
“ With the feather thing, I looked it up myself; it takes less than five minutes to figure out that Cherokees don't braid feathers into their hair. I didn't grow up in the country where my parents are from. I have many other first/second generation American friends who have also been through that, with a bit of a disconnect from their culture. But something that most of us have in common is that when we didn't know something, and when our parents weren't that big of a help, we looked it up. We sought out resources online and through other people from our culture to be able to connect more with where we came from. Some of that took a Google search. So I find it hard to believe that Piper, a girl who Rick's trying to portray as someone who is attempting to connect with her culture and is totally against racist stereotypes, wouldn't know that eagle feathers aren't supposed to be braided into your hair casually. She may be disconnected from her culture, but she's also shown to want to connect back to it. Piper wouldn't be casually braiding feathers into her hair while also telling off people for being racist. It makes no sense.” - reddit thread (down below)
for those of yall who wanna know more please please read this, it has a lot of things i wanna add in here : https://www.reddit.com/r/camphalfblood/comments/gy3gl2/piper_mcleans_portrayal_is_innacurate/
as well as https://finding-my-culture.tumblr.com/post/189422373260/maxie-ratties-and-cattie-finding-my-culture
i will be posting screenshots of these in future posts so if ure viewing this on ig and u dont have tumblr,, dont worry
- the fact that most of the strong female characters in the series refuse to be “girly”, and ngl i dont really like that. just because ure girly doesnt mean u cant be strong.
- piper would have been a great way for him to start making the strong characters act girlier, but instead he went with the “I’m not like other girls” trope which is quite obnoxious to hear constantly, and I don’t think it’s necessarily great for younger girls to read that idea growing up.  the closest we've ever had to a strong female character who was also into "girly" things was Silena. when I was younger I admired Piper's "I'm not like other girls" thing, but then I got older and realized that the whole mentality of "not like other girls" is super obnoxious, and a little bit toxic
i have a heck load more that i cant rmb rn but yeah feel free to add more

I have fic, it's already one ao3 but here ya go anyways
The Ultimate Wingman
Summary: Nico goes to Kayla for help on asking out Will, forming two relationships - platonic or not - within the Apollo cabin
No warnings :D
I wrung my hands as I walked across Camp's grounds. This couldn't go too badly… right? The worst that could happen was that he'd say no - then he'd tell everyone I was gay and they'd all hate me and think I was weird and those that I could actually call friends would abandon me and -!
"Ugh!" I said aloud, kicking the dirt. The girl that I had been looking for, Kayla Knowles, spun around. Her short ginger and green hair whipped her face and the quiver on her back slid to the right.
"Oh, hey Nico," she greeted with a smile once she got over the shock.
"Uh, hi," I mumbled.
"What is it? You seem… stressed," she commented.
"What? No, I'm not stressed," I lied. Her eyebrows creeped up.
"Oh really? I might not be any Will Solace but -" she stopped. I hoped desperately that the warmness of my cheeks wasn't showing. By the looks of it, however, I was more red than Rachel Dare's hair. She set her bow down and pulled off the quiver. Kayla seemed to be torn between smirking and being as kind as possible.
"I believe you wanted to talk to me?"
Oh, how easy it would be to say 'no' and walk away, my secrets still kept to my chest. But that would accomplish nothing. Besides, it wasn't as bad as telling Will. At least if I talked to Kayla it wasn't completely sure Will would ever find out what a loser I was.
"I - I… yes," I said, staring at the ground.
"Would you call it an… important matter?" She was definitely smirking; I could hear it in her voice. I glared at her red converse. I swear this girl lived in bright colours. "Ooh," She giggled before clearing her throat. "Sorry, I've been spending too much time around Lacy." I didn't know or care who Lacy was, though I assumed she was a daughter of Aphrodite, judging by the behaviour Kayla had leeched off her. I hoped I never had the misfortune to meet Lacy, as even this interaction with Kayla had just about killed me - or maybe it was just the circumstances.
"So," she said, jumping up to sit on the table she had just put her bow on. "What is it that you need me, of all people, for?"
"Well -"
"Sit down first," she interrupted, patting the table space next to her. She moved the bow as if it were made of glass and not a weapon made for killing. I hesitated before climbing up. (And, yes, I had to climb up. Nico di Angelo, son of Hades, was too short to get up on a table that even the smallest kid in the Apollo cabin could effortlessly jump onto.) Her bluebelle eyes held the smile that she was repressing.
"Now we're all cozy -" I shuffled away from her. "Tell me whatcha problem is." I didn't answer straight away. In fact, I didn't answer at all. I just kinda stared over to Camp, occasionally stealing glances to cabin 7. Discreetly, of course, or Kayla might start taking after Lacy again.
Suddenly, she hit my arm. I looked at her, a mixture of surprised and offended.
"There was a mosquito," she shrugged with an innocent smile.
"I hate you," I muttered so quietly I thought she wouldn't hear. But damn these Apollo kids, with their hearing that was too good, even for a demigod.
"That's kind of you,"
"How did you even -?"
"Hear you? Please, dad's the god of music n' stuff, we can't be tone deaf - well, maybe Will is -" she definitely paused just to see my reaction this time. I was disappointed in my inability to control my own blushing. The smirk reappeared on her face. "And he's also the god of prophecy, so I'd like to say that I have a pretty good idea of what's going on around here." I sighed, staring up at the sky. It was fun to imagine Zeus burning up there but I couldn't sink into childhood daydreams right now.
"I know you know -"
"I know I know, too," she said. I glared at her before looking back up.
"So just say it,"
Her smile widened before it disappeared. Shaking her head, she said something completely unexpected,
"This isn't my place to speak. You need to tell me, if you want to,"
I paused, momentarily confused by this sudden change. She smiled a genuine smile, her freckled cheeks faintly pink.
"If it makes you feel any better, I've had a crush on Lou Ellen for, like, ever,"
"Really?" I asked before I could stop myself. She nodded, the amber to green colouring of her hair made it look like traffic lights, her face was also red, making it even more pronounced.
"Well… I guess…" I groaned. "We're going anonymous, here. I have a - I have a crush on one of your half-siblings, right? And I need your help." She grinned.
"Well, good thing we're both amateurs -"
"How is that a good thing?"
"Shh, di Angelo," she placed a finger to my lips. "It's rude to interrupt a genius at work."
"You're not a genius and you've interrupted me, like, 4 -"
"3," she corrected, then paused, rolling her eyes at herself. "Now it's 4 times."
"Whatever! I just need to find out if Wi - someone in your cabin likes me back!"
"You could just… ask?" she offered.
"No!" I cried, aghast. She racked her brain for another option.
"What d'you like to do, then?" Kayla asked. I looked at her quizzically.
"Raise the dead,"
"Maybe something more… normal," she said. "No offence but an army of skeletons isn't the way to ask someone out."
"Uhh,"
"You literally never leave your cabin. What do you do in there all day? Stare at the wall?"
"Yeah, basically," I shrugged. She seemed taken aback.
"You have a sword, right? What if you challenge him to a sword fight? You know, then get talking after?"
"That could work… I guess…" I mumbled.
"Then it's settled," she said, grabbing my wrist and jumping off the table.
"What're you - no. No no no no no! You cannot -" my foot caught and I ended up with a face full of grass.
"Good thinking! Will - I mean, my siblings like healing! Did you sprain your ankle?"
"I think so," I replied, tenderly poking the injury. "But the last time I was in the infirmary-"
"Will got really pissed because you left before your three days were up? I know. So now you can make up for it!" she said, dragging me along behind her.
"William!" she screamed through the Apollo cabin door.
"What?" Will opened the door, glowing in the fading sunlight.
"I've got a visitor!" she giggled before practically throwing me inside. "Good chat, Neeks!" Kayla slammed the door, leaving us in the empty cabin.
"Uh, what was all that about?" he asked, still staring at the door as he held his hand out. I hesitated before pulling myself up.
"I sprained my ankle," I replied, my voice an octave higher than usual.
"Oh," Will said and pointed at a bed. I sat on the edge of it, my toes grazing the floor. He walked over, his blond hair bobbing with his bouncy step, which was accompanied with the clapping sound of flip flops. He finished a Red Bull, crushing the can and throwing it over his shoulder, where it flawlessly landed in the bin. How hot can you get?
He gently pulled off my black sneakers - I hoped my feet didn't smell. He prodded around the ankle and I winced in pain.
"Yeah, sprained, all right," he said. It was too quiet, I could hear his breathing. He pulled out an ice pack and wrapped it around my foot. "So, er, you're free to go, I guess." I nodded and replaced my shoe. I limped to the door before turning around.
"I was wondering if you'd, uh, if you'd like to… meet me in the - what's it called?- in the, um, arena tomorrow?" I stuttered.
"Sure," Will grinned. He couldn't be blushing, it was probably just the light. "What time?"
"Um, you pick," I said, not wanting to feel like a control freak.
"Will 11 do?" he asked.
"Of course," I replied. Truth was, I didn't usually get up until then, so I'd have to remember to set an alarm. Or tell Kayla and she'd come bounding into my room and 3 am for 'preparations'.
"See you there," he said. I nodded and left.
***
"Did it work? It worked, right?" Kayla practically yelled, jumping out from behind a bush.
"Yeah! It actually worked!" I answered just as loudly, unable to contain my enthusiasm. She gasped.
"What time are you gonna have the sword fight?"
I cursed in Greek.
"I forgot to mention the swords!"
"Never mind, you have a sprained ankle anyway," she said, then hopped up and down excitedly. "See? I'm the ultimate wingman! You're going on a date!"
"It's not a date!" I corrected her, though I secretly hoped it was.
"Whatever you say, Neeks," she shrugged. I was too happy to tell her not to call me that.
"But what should I wear?" I asked.
"Hmm," she mused. "Not the same as today… I'll need to see your wardrobe." She marched off to cabin 13, me in tow.
"Do you own anything that's not black?" Kayla grumbled, throwing yet another skull t shirt onto the bed. "Anyone'd think you're going to a funeral every day of the year."
"Uh," I squinted at a shirt. "That one's… dark grey," She held it up and raised an eyebrow. "... very, very dark grey."
"It's black," she sighed. "Anyhow, it'll have to do. At least it doesn't have a skull on."
"Who knows, maybe Will likes skulls and skeletons?" I shrugged. Kayla snorted.
"Tbh, he could probably name every bone in your body,"
"What the Hades does tbh mean?" I questioned and she grinned.
"Sometimes I forget that you're from, like, ages ago. Times like now, though…"
"Just tell me what it means," I growled as a skeletal hand broke the black carpet.
"Um, it means to be honest," she answered, her voice squeaky.
"Oh… thanks," the hand retreated back into the ground. "Sorry, I guess."
"Don't worry 'bout it," Kayla shrugged. "Just lemme watch the date first."
My face went red. I was so close to summoning another skeleton to drag her into the depths of the Underworld.
I lay in bed, too nervous to sleep. What if it didn't work out? What if he hated me? What if - oh, the horrors - he was straight? I mean, I had nothing against straights. Most of my friends were (supposedly) straight. Still, when you're tryna ask a guy out, him being straight is not ideal. At all. I rolled over and punched my pillow. I needed sleep. I already had eye bags, I didn't need yet another sleepless night to look even more trashy. I could hardly breathe on my stomach but it, at least, served as a distraction. I mused over shadow travelling across the room and back, just so I would pass out. It was unnecessary, though, as I did (eventually) get to sleep.
"Nico," I vaguely registered someone whispering in my ear. "Nico. Nico. Wake up," they inhaled. I just managed to brace myself, realising what they were going to do. "NICO!" Still, I stumbled out of bed and fell to the floor.
"What?" I hissed at Kayla. She grinned, having successfully screamed in my ear.
"Date,"
About a hundred thoughts passed through my mind at once. Through the jumble, I managed one question.
"What's the time?"
"8, which gives 3 hours to go over your strategy," she answered.
"Strategy? I don't need a strategy," I said.
"Yes, you do. Besides, I've been talking everything through with Lacy last night,"
"How did you even meet? She's, like, two years younger than you,"
"Maybe if you actually left your cabin -"
"Point taken,"
"Drink it," Kayla instructed, pushing a glass into my hand.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Poison," she said, rolling her eyes. "Water, dumbass. Now, drink." I downed it and wiped my mouth on my wrist. There were a few moments of silence before Kayla stood up, grabbing me by the wrist.
"C'mon, Ghostie, let's take you to the arena to find lover boy,"
"Wh - what? Aren't we early?"
"Will's always early, it'll be a surprise," she replied. I nodded and followed her out, trying to resist the urge to sprint, adopt a new identity and forget this whole not-date.
***
I never would have thought I'd end up standing behind a bush with Kayla Knowles whilst Will Solace waited for me, yet here I was.
"Don't mess up the eyeliner," she said. "Or Lacy will kill me." I tried to reply, but no sound came out. She smiled lopsidedly, like she understood anyway.
"You'll do great," she inhaled then patted my head. "Will totally loves you."
"I - I - he -" I stuttered.
"Trust me," Kayla said, grasping my hand, her bitten nails lightly scratching me. She pulled me into a hug from there. I tensed momentarily before doing the same.
"Thanks," I said into her shoulder. "Maybe I could be the ultimate wingman for your date with Lou Ellen."
"Isn't she with Cecil, though?"
"Eh," I shrugged. "I can… arrange something." She pulled back, laughing.
"Will will be lucky to have you, di Angelo. Now, go get him!" She pushed me out from our hiding space.
Will spin around, a grin forming on his face. His camp tank top exposed his golden shoulders, which glowed in the sunlight. He obviously had had some assistance too, as he was wearing jeans and not beach shorts two sizes too big.
"You're early," he laughed; a short melodic note.
"Then what are you?" I retorted good-naturedly.
"Hmm, fair point. But do you like my shoes?" he pointed at his black crocs. "I thought you'd like the colour."
"Oh, yeah, get me some," I said sarcastically.
"Sure!" Will said, his white teeth shining.
"That was a joke, Solace! A joke! I do not want black crocs!"
"Suit yourself," he shrugged. "Now, do you wanna sit down somewhere?"
"Thought you'd never ask,"

Hi! I started following you for a while (mostly for your pjo posts) and because I see we share many opinions for those books, I'd like to point something that not many people notice: So, pjo is a series about Greek mythology...without any Greek people. Even the GREEK gods are heavily americanised and as a Greek girl this has always troubled me. The only greek character (Zoe) was brutally killed. So yeah, I'd like to hear your opinion on this one.
Well, I’m happy to hear that! ^^
And yeah, you’re right. There’s... not really an actually Greek Greek demigod. And it’s really weird. In PJO, that... was kind of attributable to the fact that the Greek gods weren’t really the Greek gods - they were American gods. And this is where I’ll take a slight detour, just as a fair warning.
The fact that the Greek gods are American is something I know I’ve complained about before, but I don’t know where exactly so let’s complain again.
The Romans make no sense. Not in the context given by the Greeks.
Reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians I never had a problem with the fact that the Greek gods were now American stereotypes, because... they were now in American. And this pantheon is known for moving and adjusting. When they came to Rome, they became Roman so it made perfect sense that by moving to the US, they became American.
And then Riordan retconned the Roman aspects into existence and kind of fucked his own world-building over with that, because the Romans didn’t move on, they’re not modern, they’re ancient Roman in behavior and clothes.
And that is what makes no sense. First, the gods lived in Greece and were Greek, then they moved on to Rome and became Roman. Now they live in the US, but uh... the Greeks totally became American and they kept their Roman aspect and that didn’t move on at all because... reasons.
With the existence of the Roman aspects, the Greek aspects should be classic Greek. Not... Ares as a biker with a leather jacket and Zeus in a pine-stripe suit and Poseidon in a Hawaiian shirt. They should be Greek and it’s ridiculously weird to keep both Roman and Greek aspects alive and have the Greeks assimilated into American culture.
He really shot himself in the foot there. He should have never invented the Romans. Sure, there was a spicy additional drama aspect there in the “Greeks vs Romans” nonsense happing in Heroes of Olympus, but it... wasn’t really necessary? I mean, nothing about the plot actually required Romans, specifically. Not even the freaking being in Rome part! Because the most handy and important member of the team there was Nico di Angelo, the Italian Greek demigod!
If there had been anything actually Roman-exclusive that was needed in this quest, anything at all - be that that one of the Seven would be the child of a Roman-exclusive god, or that the Roman demigods actually lived in Rome and the Greeks discovered them like that, but... they lived in freaking San Francisco.
The quest of the Seven could have as well happened with only the CHB characters. Heck, the new characters could have, honestly, just been Greek - Hazel and Frank. Leo and Piper already are. Jason could have been just replaced by Thalia for the Zeus-powers’ sake. Clarisse instead of Reyna, because experienced daughter of war who fought hard in the last war already. And you’re done.
And then the fact that the Greek gods evolved into American gods would have kept making sense. And it’d have been less questionable that there’s not a single Greek demigod, because they’re all American.
Though, generally, I never warmed up to the fact that Riordan exclusively moved them all to the US. The uprooting of the pantheons to cram them all into the US has always been iffy for me. There should be more camps, especially when all your religions are not native to the US but to other continents; you should not feel entitled to grabbing something essential to a culture, uprooting it completely and removing it from its cultural context to claim it as yours to play in like a sandbox is... ya know... not great. The Egyptians should have their centre in Egypt, the Norse should have camps in the Scandinavian and German-speaking countries and I think it reached France too, if I’m not mistaken, the Greek pantheon should be in Greece and also in Italy. I’m not even saying exclusively (the way Riordan put them exclusively into the US); I’m saying there should be more camps in general, but definitely also in the countries of their cultural origin.
I do have the headcanon that Chiron’s wife, a mountain nymph very specifically bound to a mountain in Greece, is running a camp in Greece , where the centre of their worship is. It’s have been so easy to just... acknowledge that there are more camps, that there are camps in Europe - in Greece, but also in other countries because even on one continent it is ridiculous to assume that every mortal parent has the money and ability to send their kids to that one place, or would want to. I mean, look at Sally Jackson, the woman rather got herself and her son stuck with an abusive man than sent her son, what, two hours away into the New York located Greek camp. But parents of demigods from any other place in the world would send their kids over the ocean to the US? Sure, sure.
I just can’t imagine that Greece, the place where the Greek gods feel most alive still because all of the ruins and temples and remembrance is still there wouldn’t have enough demigods of its own to fill a whole camp. Let alone Italy, Germany, France, etc. There... There are a lot of countries in Europe that have been touched by the Roman empire.
And what I never understood about that is that... the gods need to be believed in to stay alive. I never quite took that as literal worship, because while yes the belief itself is still alive, I always understood it more in the way that... the notion of the gods need to still be believed in. In the way every child goes through that Greek gods phase, you know? And in the way we still decorate places with statues of Greek gods, have the symbols on our house walls. And those things... are definitely very prominent in Europe, most of all in Greece.
So for the gods to follow “the power”, or whatever Riordan’s flimsy reasoning for why the US are the centre of the (Western) world are, that was always weak.
You can’t really just... go back in time; when he thought of the Romans, there was no taking back the changes he made to the Greeks yet, but there was a different way to incorporate these new characters and the concept of a new camp without messing that up. The second war that took us to Europe should have taken us to a European camp. He could have had Jason and the “Romans” be... Greek, be from the camp in Athens and the Americans meet them for the sake of the war and they have to work together.
To sum it up, I think Riordan shot himself in the foot when he created the Romans and I think that for what little their Roman nature really factored in, he could have found a more elegant and logical way to incorporate these new characters and the concept of a different camp without messing with the godly aspects and thus screwing over his own world building.

Unpopular PJO/HOO/TOA opinions
This is gonna be wordy but I’m not sorry for it.
Percabeth is hella overrated. It’s nice, but I would prefer other ships over it and some of y’all Percabeth shippers are scary as hell
I love TOA. A lot people don’t like it because it doesn’t include the main 7 and another topic that I’ll mention later but honestly, I could care less. I’m glad that the others aren’t there other than cameos. It means they’re getting a chance to heal after everything and honestly, good for them. People like to cast TOA as an unnecessary spinoff that didn’t need to be included yet it gives y’all the type of character development you scream and beg for in other books. It’s literally the perfect character development trope you crave, yet puts a good spin on it.
Some of you haven’t even READ toa and say you hate it. Like what? How is that supposed to work.
PJO was way better than HOO. TOA sits in the middle of the two.
I love TOA because it shows Apollo’s character growth from one of the most arrogant, cocky, and prideful gods. And even then, he doesn’t go from that to a helpless mortal loving fool, he stays arrogant and prideful but less so. Not to mention more understanding of mortals and demigods live and what they go through. He doesn’t go from one extreme to the other, but one extreme to more of a center balance. It’s more natural that way.
While Jason’s death in TOA was sorta cheap, it goes to show demigods can die at the least expected times. If Jason had died during the war, then it would be “oh, well, that’s what war does. It kills people. Nothing new.” Compared to Jason going about life as normal and one small mission is his end. It’s more impactful and realistic that way. It goes to show that life as a demigod is always dangerous, fighting or not.
Jason’s anger to Percy for not noticing Nico’s feelings towards him is absolute bullshit. Fuck that as a whole. Nico acting cold and hateful towards Percy doesn’t and shouldn’t equal “I like you, notice me please”. The internalized homophobia should be Jason’s focus, not Percy’s lack of attention at Nico’s feelings.
Same for Leo about Calypso. Not to mention they both shove the blame onto Percy like its his fault when it really isn’t. Having your memory forcefully wiped mere months after a war isn’t gonna help when remembering stuff like that. Not to mention the Gods are bums who will try to do as little as possible and leave the rest to demigods. It leads to one sided anger and unnecessary confusion and guilt on the other side. Bad writing on Rick’s part tbh.
People need to stop acting like Jason didn’t die. That’s clinging into a ghost and not letting it move on. I hate to be the one who says it, but Jason is canonically dead and acting like he isn’t won’t change shit. It’s gonna lead to unhealthy habits in the future, trust me. You can’t write a fic post TOA then be like “oh yeah, Jason’s alive because I want him to :)))” because that isn’t how life works sweetheart.
People also need to stop pretending TOA doesn’t exist. You might not like it but you have to acknowledge that it is actually there and it follows the PJO/HOO timeline.
Paul was just a card to give Sally a nice man to lean on when it wasn’t necessary.
Percy should’ve been wayyyy more suspicious of Paul when he was first introduced. 6 years of abuse from a “father figure” isn’t just gonna go away because “oh he’s nice.” Guess what? Gabe was nice at first canoncially (even if it was for a very short amount of time).
Percy. Has. Serious. Anger. Issues. He’s sassy and stuff, sure, but he’s also got some severe anger problems that he both inherited from Poseidon and developed and festered over time from living with Gabe for 6 years.
Percy is the type to act like Hades or Apollo, attack a lesser being(s) because he can’t go after the big shot without fear of punishment. I wouldn’t be surprised if some his expulsions were from beating up various kids and/or teachers.
For the first half of TLT, Percy did not like Camp Half-Blood or consider it his “home” other than Grover and Luke. The camp treated him like shit because he was a noobie at first and then because he was a son of the Big Three. He hated Poseidon for his lack of care and lack of help when he and his mom were abused under Gabe. Had Luke talked to him during that time period and/or Kronos spoke to him in dreams, he would’ve joined the Titans. His loyalty for the camp didn’t form until near the end of TLT.
Nico and Percy basically had somewhat personality switches. Nico was an excitable, happy, laid back, and naive kid while Percy was a quiet, angry, and irritable kid. Nico’s switch came from Bianca’s death while Percy’s was more gradual. In the end, Nico became the quiet, irritable kid and Percy became the more happy, laid back kid.
Stop ignoring the fact that Nico, a literal 14-year-old, traversed into Tartarus. Alone. There’s always fics of Percy and Annabeth recovering or suffering from the after affects of the fall and war while Nico is relatively normal. The boy is not and has not been okay. His life has been one shitshow to the next ever since he was ten.
Both Percy and Nico have incredibly dark sides to their powers that they seemingly enjoyed that was fueled by anger. Percy with Achlys and Nico with Bryce. Percy admitted to liking torturing the goddess and Nico, though more subtly, seemed amused by Bryce and his attempts to justify his crimes and then frantic attempts to stay alive. Bryce literally says “I’m Bryce Lawrence! I am alive!” And Nico casually responds with “Who are you?” as he turns Bryce into a souless husk of a person. You cannot tell me that he wouldn’t have tilted his head innocently and cracked a small smile at that.
Piper’s portrayal as a Native American. Do I even need to go into that?
Percy. Liked. Luke. The boy knew the son of Hermes for what? 1 week? 2? Yet considered him to be a friend, possibly a close one at that. It probably went the same route Nico’s crush did. Hero adoration to actual romantic feelings but godspeed. Not because he just wanted to like a boy, but because, other than Chiron, Luke treated him with kindness, patience, and understanding as a male figure, something Percy didn’t really have growing up. Not to mention Luke helped Percy when no one else would. As a 12 year old, those type of feelings were bound to develop.
People who make the characters treat Percy and Leo as dumb, oblivious, or one dimensional sassy bois™️. Percy and Leo would be offended and/or defensive of such a thing because of childhood trauma. How many years do you think they can to endure that when they were younger from people they were supposed to trust or respect? You seriously can’t think they would be fine with it because their friends. Maybe a reference once or twice, but constantly? Absolutely not. Old habits die hard.
Solangelo seemed forced to me. I dunno, Nico’s whole confession felt like a ruse to get him set up with Will right away. I felt as though there wasn’t any real “connection” between the two prior to them getting together. It all felt rushed and out of place for the setting they were in. I’ve never understood it nor liked it and usually try to avoid it. That and Caleo seemed like a way to put all the characters in relationships so that they were “happy”, portraying that they needed to be with someone to achieve their happiness. Leo and Nico would’ve been better off single and learning to love themselves before loving someone else. Same applies to Sally.
Nico and Thalia would never get along because Thalia would be a reminder of what Nico lost (Bianca) and how easily how she could be replaced.
Demeter kids need more respect. I feel like that’s what Meg is for. To show that they can also technically be considered “Big Three” material because, if you forgot, Demeter is a child of Kronos as well. That means Demeter’s kids are cousins with the Big Three kids as well.
Aphrodite’s kids also need more respect. Aphrodite in the PJO universe is literally older than all gods, as she was born from Uranus’ gentials in the ocean and arose from there. Their powers could be exapanded wayyy more if they were focused on more.
Not to mention Poseidon kids could possibly gain attibutes of what would be considered Aphrodite’s powers since she was born from the ocean and vice versa. The possibilities are endless there.
That’s all I could think of for now! Lemme know what you guys think though.

Finally the sky began to lighten. Artemis muttered, "About time. He's so-o-o lazy during the winter." "You're, um, waiting for sunrise?" I asked. "For my brother. Yes." I didn't want to be rude. I mean, I knew the legends about Apollo—or sometimes Helios—driving a big sun chariot across the sky. But I also knew that the sun was really a star about a zillion miles away. I'd gotten used to some of the Greek myths being true, but still… I didn't see how Apollo could drive the sun. "It's not exactly as you think," Artemis said, like she was reading my mind.
"Oh, okay." I started to relax. "So, it's not like he'll be pulling up in a—" There was a sudden burst of light on the horizon. A blast of warmth. "Don't look," Artemis advised. "Not until he parks." Parks? I averted my eyes, and saw that the other kids were doing the same. The light and warmth intensified until my winter coat felt like it was melting off of me. Then suddenly the light died. I looked. And I couldn't believe it. It was my car. Well, the car I wanted, anyway. A red convertible Maserati Spyder. It was so awesome it glowed. Then I realized it was glowing because the metal was hot. The snow had melted around the Maserati in a perfect circle, which explained why I was now standing on green grass and my shoes were wet. The driver got out, smiling. He looked about seventeen or eighteen, and for a second, I had the uneasy feeling it was Luke, my old enemy. This guy had the same sandy hair and outdoorsy good looks. But it wasn't Luke. This guy was taller, with no scar on his face like Luke's. His smile was brighter and more playful. (Luke didn't do much more than scowl and sneer these days.) The Maserati driver wore jeans and loafers and a sleeveless T-shirt. "Wow," Thalia muttered. "Apollo is hot." "He's the sun god," I said. "That's not what I meant." "Little sister!" Apollo called. If his teeth were any whiter he could've blinded us without the sun car. "What's up? You never call. You never write. I was getting worried!" Artemis sighed. "I'm fine, Apollo. And I am not your little sister." "Hey, I was born first." "We're twins! How many millennia do we have to argue—" "So what's up?" he interrupted. "Got the girls with you, I see. You all need some tips on archery?"
Artemis grit her teeth. "I need a favor. I have some hunting to do, alone. I need you to take my companions to Camp Half-Blood." "Sure, sis!" Then he raised his hands in a stop everything gesture. "I feel a haiku coming on." The Hunters all groaned. Apparently they'd met Apollo before. He cleared his throat and held up one hand dramatically. "Green grass breaks through snow. Artemis pleads for my help. I am so cool." He grinned at us, waiting for applause. "That last line was only four syllables," Artemis said. Apollo frowned. "Was it?" "Yes. What about I am so big-headed?" "No, no, that's six syllables. Hmm." He started muttering to himself. Zoe Nightshade turned to us. "Lord Apollo has been going through this haiku phase ever since he visited Japan. 'Tis not as bad as the time he visited Limerick. If I'd had to hear one more poem that started with, There once was a goddess from Sparta—" "I've got it!" Apollo announced. "I am so awesome. That's five syllables!" He bowed, looking very pleased with himself. "And now, sis. Transportation for the Hunters, you say? Good timing. I was just about ready to roll." "These demigods will also need a ride," Artemis said, pointing to us. "Some of Chiron's campers."
"No problem!" Apollo checked us out. "Let's see… Thalia, right? I've heard all about you." Thalia blushed. "Hi, Lord Apollo." "Zeus's girl, yes? Makes you my half sister. Used to be a tree, didn't you? Glad you're back. I hate it when pretty girls turn into trees. Man, I remember one time—" "Brother," Artemis said. "You should get going." "Oh, right." Then he looked at me, and his eyes narrowed. "Percy Jackson?" "Yeah. I mean… yes, sir." It seemed weird calling a teenager "sir," but I'd learned to be careful with immortals. They tended to get offended easily. Then they blew stuff up. Apollo studied me, but he didn't say anything, which I found a little creepy. "Well!" he said at last. "We'd better load up, huh? Ride only goes one way—west. And if you miss it, you miss it." I looked at the Maserati, which would seat two people max. There were about twenty of us. "Cool car," Nico said. "Thanks, kid," Apollo said. "But how will we all fit?" "Oh." Apollo seemed to notice the problem for the first time. "Well, yeah. I hate to change out of sports-car mode, but I suppose…" He took out his car keys and beeped the security alarm button. Chirp, chirp. For a moment, the car glowed brightly again. When the glare died, the Maserati had been replaced by one of those Turtle Top shuttle buses like we used for school basketball games. "Right," he said. "Everybody in." Zoe ordered the Hunters to start loading. She picked up her camping pack, and Apollo said, "Here, sweetheart. Let me get that." Zoe recoiled. Her eyes flashed murderously. "Brother," Artemis chided. "You do not help my Hunters. You do not look at, talk to, or flirt with my Hunters. And you do not call them sweetheart."

Cabin 4 Things:
Waking up trapped and covered in vines because your siblings befriended them and now they won’t leave your bunk, trying to get upset, and ending up playing Uno with said vines before dinnertime
Feeling really uncomfortable about archery because “listen, this arrow was alive at one point” and then people making fun of you for it for eternity
“Eating plants is different okay, nobody died so I could eat this apple, have you ever taken a science class?”
That was a trick question, nobody at camp has ever taken a science class
I’m serious, one time I got into an argument with a Hephaestus camper who was convinced that we didn’t need to do anything about the flood season because “plants can’t die of too much water.” What the heckity heck? I thought Cabin 9 kids were supposed to be smart?
Also trying to contain the rage that comes when other campers forget that our cabin is the only reason the camp has any money.
“No, you can’t replace the strawberry fields with another forge, we need the strawberry fields, they give us monetary income”
Ditching classes to lay in the strawberry fields because at least the strawberries aren’t caught up in Cabin 10’s gossiping, except Psyche! the Aphrodite kids are already there, gossiping with the nymphs
I’m totally kidding, Cabin 10 is great, but seriously is teleporting a power of Aphrodite or...?
Arguing with Apollo campers about the best herbal remedies for things, bringing half of the forst into it, then risking your life to sneak out to a nearby library to get proof that you’re right
“If I never go back to that library ever again I don’t have to pay the late fee, right?”
I’m on a tangent but I’m pretty sure that book’s still at camp, Chiron won’t let me send it out with questing demigods because it would “distract them from their mission” or whatever
People always forgetting that Demeter is a sibling of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, too, and being surprises when our campers are powerful
In case you’re wondering, the reason our lives don’r suck as much is because Demeter actually takes parental responsibily when we’re in danger
Seriously, remember Persephone? Demeter is very much a protective mom.
On that note, I physically cannot talk to Nico because mom makes plants wrap push me backward whenever he’s near, which I’m guessing is related to the Persephone and Hades thing
Not being afraid of bugs, but getting into heated arguments with them when they threaten crops
Dragging shy nymphs to the campfire to sing
“Why are you talking to a tree?” “Well you see-“
The mist just making it look like we’re crazy and talking to the air
Or mortals just being very confused around us when we speed grow plants because their brains need to recalibrate every two seconds
That good good feeling of napping in the dirt, surrounded by trees and nature
(Feel free to add on about your cabin)

can you sort the percy Jackson characters into Hogwarts houses?
YES.
okay so let’s all remember: Gryffindor- ‘courage, bravery, nerve and chivalry’, Hufflepuff -‘hard work, patience, justice and loyalty’, Ravenclaw- ‘intelligence, creativity, learning and wit’, and Slytherin- ‘ambition, cunning, leadership and resourcefulness’.
Annabeth Chase- Ravenclaw, she’s definitely one of the easier ones when it comes to this. While she would fit nicely into other houses, her intelligence and wit are almost always what saves her ass. She’s a great fighter but she prefers talking her way out of situations, disarming her enemies with words. Not to mention she had Arachne weave her own trap on the spot, like, come on.
Thalia Grace- Slytherin. She could definitely fit into Gryffindor, but Thalia’s very ambitious, resourceful as hell, and her fatal flaw is literally being power hungry. She slides into leadership roles automatically and gets enraged when someone tries to question her authority or ability (see: all her fights with Percy, ever). She’s definitely most at home in this house.
Luke Castellan- Hufflepuff. He’s literally a poster boy for the puffs before he joins Kronos. ‘But wait,’ you say, ‘he should be Slytherin, he was cunning and resourceful and leading Kronos’ army!’ NO HE WASN’T. He was following Kronos’ orders and acting like a mouthpiece 90% of the time! Luke had a strong sense of loyalty- and it was used against him. He had a strong sense of justice- and he felt everyone the gods wronged deserved that. He was a hard worker and crazy patient as a camp counselor and those traits came into play when he was working for Kronos. This boy is a Hufflepuff. He also personally recovered Kronos’ remains, so, like, he’s even a particularly good finder.
Grover Underwood- Hufflepuff. Honestly I shouldn’t even really have to explain this one, but: there’s a reason Pan chose him as a replacement. Grover puts his literal everything into whatever task he’s given, whether that be searching for pan, restoring the wild, or protecting demigods. Unfailingly loyal, extremely patient with all the ridiculous demigods around him, and always willing to fight for what’s right even if he’s scared. I love my hufflepuff goat boy!!!
Rachel Elizabeth Dare- Gryffindor. She’d fit in so well in Ravenclaw, to the point where I wanna say ‘fuck it’ and put her there, but like…this girl found out the boy she had almost died around twice was half god and immediately believed him and went Ride Or Die for him. She lead a bunch of potentially crazy strangers through the freaking death trap maze on a hunch that she could. She highjacked a helicopter and flew it into a warzone to help her friend. She let an ancient prophetic spirit posses her body even though she knew the last person who tried lost their mind. She hit the titan lord Kronos in the eye with a plastic hairbrush, and then immediately decided that hairbrush was the only weapon she would ever need to defend herself with, even though everyone else around her has swords or fangs. This girl is batshit crazy impulsive and filled to the brim with nerve, Gryffindor is where she belongs. I love her bye.
Bianca di Angelo- Gryffindor. She was always a little more hesitant than the others, but when push came to shove she always took risks to do what she thought was right. My baby was brave as hell okay.
Zoe Nightshade- Slytherin. She was a great leader for centuries, and dreamed big for the future of the hunters even when she knew she was going to die. Was literally one of the most pulled together people in this entire series. Resourceful as shit. She was also very set in the ways of her past, a common trait among slytherins- she just couldn’t bring herself to care about the mortal world outside of when it directly effected her, and often put up a fight when she had to conform to it. Slytherins are also often very loyal to their own, and, well, we all remember how her story ended. She would do anything for Artemis. I’m literally still crying over her okay bye.
Nico di Angelo- Hufflepuff. I will not stand for all these slytherin Nico posts any longer, guys!!! This boy is a hufflepuff!!!!! Holy shit!! Okay, like, the slytherin traits? He hates leadership, his only ambition is to not have severe depression, and??? cunning??? This fucking loser cunning???? Like, sure, he hid the camps from each other but like…not well. Everyone knew he was hiding something, just no one bothered to press him on it that hard lmao. And he doesn’t do ANYTHING for his own personal gain. He belongs in hufflepuff- Nico is loyal to a fault. He’s been double crossed so many times because it just didn’t occur to him that people would take advantage of him, because he personally would never do that to someone. Nico di Angelo has every reason under the sun to want to betray the gods and he just…doesn’t. He never even considers it for a second, because he has a strong sense of right and wrong, and even if he feels like an outsider at camp that’s still the place where his loyalties lie. Percy, as a narrator, has had moments where he’s been suspicious of Nico’s motives, but he’s never once doubted Nico’s intent. He doesn’t always know if he can trust Nico as a friend but he’s absolutely sure Nico will always be an ally. Nico’s an incredibly hard worker even if he doesn’t let it show to the others, but he’s always pushing himself to his absolute limits to help. And like, again, half the time he doesn’t actually have to work so hard to help, some people never really even expect him to help at all- but he goes out of his way because he knows it the right thing to do. He holds grudges and lashes out in anger because his sense of justice is almost overpowering. This kid is a hufflepuff and I’ll actually fight you on it.
Ethan Nakamura- Gryffindor. He’s…really hard to place, honestly, but I think this spot fits him better than slytherin. Even if he was misguided, he was very brave and had a lot of nerve.
Charles Beckendorf- Gryffindor. This boy was literally everything Godric Gryffindor had in mind when he created the house. He’s a Gryffindor wet dream. Had a lot of nerve, was a big brother to basically everyone in camp, and readily sacrificed himself for the greater cause. My brave boy I miss him.
Silena Beauregard- Hufflepuff. She was extremely loyal, even if she put her faith in the wrong people at points. Sacrificed herself trying to do what she knew was right. Very hardworking and always willing to help anybody. I love her sm.
Clarisse LaRue- Slytherin. Literally who’s more ambitious and resourceful than Clarisse. Who loves taking charge more than Clarisse. No one. No one at all. This girl is 100% Slytherin and she kicks ass doing it.
Will Solace- Hufflepuff. He tries so hard to help people!!! Patient enough to help Nico work through his shit!! Unfailingly loyal to his ridiculous father!!! Never shown to be anything other than a sweet guy who just wants to do good in the world. This goofball sunshine is precious.
Jason Grace- Hufflepuff. Jason often finds himself in positions of power, even though he hates being in power, just because he’s the only one people know they can trust 100%. And he does it without complaining, and does everything he can to make sure everyone he’s working with is doing okay. He acts all stoic to try to make people feel more protected but this fucking dork is always stressed, Ride Or Dies for everyone he knows and if you ask him to describe any of his friends he’ll probably tear up while singing their praises to you. He works SO HARD to make sure everything is going okay, and strongly believes in teamwork. He’s patient enough to deal with, like, everyone he’s ever encountered, and always does what’s in the best interest for others. Speaks up to his father about honoring the forgotten gods because he knows it’s what’s right. A total screaming dork and I love my boy.
Piper McLean- Gryffindor. Like…half of her character arc is dedicated to her learning to be brave and fighting for what’s right. You need a lot of nerve and power to work charmspeak as well as she does, and she’s always ready to pull some ridiculous stunts. She starts out somewhat panicked and timid, but once she starts to grow she realizes that if anything’s gonna get done, it’s because she has to have the balls to do it herself. Will throw herself into dangerous situations, and is fiercely protective of her loved ones. Literally ran into a temple of fear and terror and??? Completely conquered it and took over and used it to wreck a giant???? This girl is a brave badass and nobody should ever mess with her MY GIRL.
Leo Valdez- Ravenclaw. He??? Is literally a prodigy child??? Like I’m sorry I’m just so sick of people downplaying Leo’s intelligence. He understood complicated mathematics and basic engineering before he hit double digits. He captured and fixed Festus all by himself, in one night, when his entire cabin had been trying to do that for months. He found out he was a demigod and threw himself into studying ancient greek history. He designed the entire Argo, is the only person who can fly it and fully understands how it works, and is also the sole person who keeps it up and running with repairs. He figured out how the spheres work in record time, he’s always able to work out complicated riddles or problems. Remember that time he was about to crash into the ocean and he??? Taped the sphere to his chest and built a functioning personal helicopter to steer and soften his crash in like…under three minutes? That time he casually strolled into a grocery store and got all the stuff he needed to make a bomb in half an hour? He’s always making really little inventions that seem silly but are actually incredibly helpful? He’s hyper and goofy, sure, but Leo’s literally a genius. He’s incrediblely creative and fast thinking, loves learning and is always excited by new things. Please give my boy the credit he deserves.
Hazel Levesque- Hufflepuff. Hazel is honestly SO HARD to sort because she’d be a model Gryffindor honestly but like…She didn’t have to sacrifice herself to stop Gaea, but she did anyway because she knew it was the right thing to do. She sacrificed eternal happiness because she knew it wasn’t fair for her mother to suffer. She has a very strong sense of justice and is always willing to fight for it. She’s always giving her 110% when she’s working at anything, be it practicing magic or sword fighting, and it really pays off. She deals with her failures with grace and is unwavering when it comes to the people she loves. Queen.
Frank Zhang- Gryffindor. Literally his Whole Thing is that he has to be brave because he never knows when he’s gonna die. He’s always going to make sacrifices and fight for the people he cares because he’s set on burning bright. He’s got a lot of nerve, he just needs to be pushed to remember its there. A good leader whether he believes he is or not. Even when he’s not feeling confident, courage and bravery are the traits he admires and values most, and that’s what he wants to shoot for. I miss this teddy bear so much.
Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano - Gryffindor. Like…come on. This is one of the easier ones. She’s one of the most courageous people in the series. She has enough inner strength that she can lend it all to an entire army. She found the bravery to stand up to her father in defense of her sister. She survived being captured by pirates. She threw herself on top of a bomb to protect the Athena Parthenos. My girl is a custom made Gryffindor.
Calypso- Ravenclaw. She loves learning more than anything else, she’s super creative and ingenuitive, and is taking steps to learn magic again. High hopes for this girl I love her.
Octavian- Slytherin. Doesn’t need much explanation tbh. Very cunning, very ambitious, very power hungry. Willing to do anything to get his way. Remember that time he like, scammed Apollo and then further scammed his camp into basically making him pope??? Wild. I don’t miss him.
Meg McCaffrey- Gryffindor. She’s pretty hard to place but she’s arguably one of the braver characters, even if she doesn’t believe she is. She gets nervous and scared a lot but she’s often able to push past that and stay strong. Back talks everyone under the sun because she barely gives a fuck. At the end of the day she knows what’s right and wrong, and she wants to help.
Percy Jackson- Ravenclaw. Listen. Let me explain. First of all, Percy is SO HARD to place and I completely understand all the ridiculous discourse over whether he’s Gryffindor/Hufflepuff/Slytherin, but I NEVER see cases made for Ravenclaw Percy and I think it’s a travesty, because he’d fit in there quite nicely. So, listen, I know the boy has a bit of a bad rep for being slow, but like…most of the time he really isn’t? It’s just one of those things that got exaggerated. Percy’s a very observant person, he just doesn’t exactly always let the other characters know that. He’s not a straight A student, but we do know he’s not awful- a lot of times there will be moments where he directly goes “hey, I remember learning something like this in school!” and applies whatever it is to the situation. Some of his plans have been crazy or ridiculous, but they are creative, usually have some kind of logic behind them, and do often work out for him- when they had to get off the Thrill Ride O’ Love, when he used Thalia’s shield as a sled for them down a hill, when he pulled a stunt similar to that trying to get to camp Jupiter, when he somehow made a pulley system out of chains and pulled his giant half brother off the ground, stuff like that. Like Annabeth, he’s also very good at talking his way out of situations- he doesn’t always like to, but he can absolutely pull it off when he needs to. He’s a very smart talker, honestly, there are multiple instances of him managing to manipulate others into doing what he wants them to (not just the scene with Bob, which gets the most attention bc it was outside of his pov). He’s incredibly witty, in both definitions of the word, and often times it works to his advantage because other characters downplay his intelligence. He has a good sense for battle strategy, and he’s incredibly perceptive about his surroundings, often times picking up on things the others (even Annabeth!) miss. He has a strong intuition and things usually work out when he follows it. There’s more I can use to back this up but this is already long enough, point is- I think Percy is just an unconventional Ravenclaw. Like, upon meeting him you don’t immediately understand why he’s in that house, but it becomes clearer the more he opens up, like Luna, I guess? Anyway, I love my boy and he’s very smart please give him some credit.
Feel free to send me your guys’ opinions!!! :)

Title: Monachopsis
Summary: It’s been a year and a half since Bianca joined the Hunters. A year and a half since Zoë Nightshade died and Thalia Grace took over. A year and a half since Nico di Angelo came to Camp Half-Blood, and year and a half gone unclaimed. He never expected this.
Notes: This is somewhat of a snippet from a fic I will at some point develop fully. Basically, the premise is that the prophecy in the Titan’s Curse went a little differently, and Bianca didn’t die. (Don’t be too happy yet. She does still die. :( But I have another AU in which she lives that I’ll probably delve into eventually.) In this, Nico has lived at Camp Half-Blood year-round and grown up a bit. Because this does involve changing the timeline a bit, imagine this as the beginning of the Battle of the Labyrinth. At some point, I’ll establish the timeline more neatly, but for now, don’t worry about it too much. I’ve left it a little rough, as I wanted to get it out today, so forgive me if anything is off. Dedicated to @rainelinde @adreamingsongbird for her birthday, because we both relate to Will in this fic.
The day started off like any other. Like every day, the Hermes cabin seems a little emptier.
When Nico first arrived, people had warned him that the cabin was perpetually crowded. “It used to be worse,” Connor Stoll had confessed, “but a few people have followed--”
No one at camp ever said his name directly. It was like they were scared of invoking something. Nico figured it was a weird Greek thing anyway, the avoiding of names. Reminded him a lot of Harry Potter, in a way. (Percy had brought those books during one of his visits, saying he couldn’t quite get as into the story as before, being the whole potential prophecy kid. Nico got it a little, but he also thought Percy was doing the same thing Annabeth did, trying to replace Bianca as an older sibling figure. It didn’t work, but it was nice enough.) Nico went along with it though. He never knew the guy, and the whole rhetoric didn’t affect him much.
It did affect the older campers, the ones who’d waited longer to finally be claimed, the ones who felt left out and cast aside. Nico understood their pain, but he didn’t understand why they’d give up all of their friends at camp. The gods may not have been good, but camp was. Nico loved camp.
Mainly because he had great friends. Cecil and Clovis both stayed in the Hermes cabin, though Cecil was the only actual Hermes camper in their crew. Somewhere in the past few months, they’d picked up Will Solace from Cabin 7. A lot of their stunts usually ended with some sort of injury, and Will Solace was the one to patch them up most often, so in spite of the healer’s standard to hang out with older kids, especially his siblings, he’d been roped into a few schemes from time to time.
Nico really liked Will, even though he was kind of stuffy half the time. When he smiled, things seemed to light up, and occasionally, he relaxed, and then he was just the most fun to be around. Unfortunately, that wasn’t often, and besides, he normally stuck with his cabin for camp activities. Most of the time, Nico was stuck with Cecil and Clovis, in the sad little Hermes cabin where he didn’t even have a real bed.
Maybe he’d get one soon, though. That morning, Nico saw a few of the mattresses on the floor were completely empty. Travis and Connor seemed to notice as well, but they didn’t say anything.
“Rise and shine, kids, it’s time to canoe,” one said, to which the other added, “And we don’t mean canoodle, so stay away from the Aphrodite cabin.”
Nico winced at the terrible pun. Cecil laughed. Clovis yawned.
“Morning already?”
The cabin was always in a rush to get ready in the morning, but it didn’t take too long until the entire camp was lined up at the dining pavilion. Will had to sit with his siblings, but Nico, Cecil, and Clovis got to sit together and talk about the day--or more accurately, bug one of the Stoll brothers into telling them the rest of their schedule.
They didn’t succeed. They were dragged off to canoeing, where Clovis and Nico tipped their canoe when Clovis fell asleep. Next, it was time for sword practice, which Beckendorf taught. Nico loved that. Swords were about the only thing in camp he could handle. The day continued in the same manner, just as always, until the Hermes campers were released for free time, and Cecil dragged Nico and Clovis to walk around in the forest. Cecil was talking a lot, like he always did, but Nico could hardly pay attention. His mind was wandering off once more.
That feeling was back. The feeling that he didn’t belong.
Camp Half-Blood was the greatest place on the planet. It was basically Mythomagic come to life--minus the ancient Greek aesthetic and fashion sense, plus the camp tradition of friendship bracelets. (Nico currently had five: one from Cecil, one from Clovis, and three from Will, because Will had seven on each arm, and he didn’t want Nico to feel left out.)
Fighting with swords, riding pegasi (even though they didn’t seem to like Nico), exploring the forest, Nico loved it all. Being the kid of a Greek god was awesome.
Except that he had no idea who his parent was. That would have been nice. For as long as Nico could remember, it had just been him and Bianca. Without Bianca he was alone. Knowing a little more about his family would have been nice. But Nico couldn’t really complain. He had good friends, and when the Hermes cabin was overstimulating, Will’s brothers Lee and Michael didn’t mind if Nico hung around.
Really, Nico loved camp. So it sucked that he had that feeling.
Nico had first mentioned it to Grover privately on the trek to camp. Maybe Bianca was a demigod, and Nico was her entirely normal half-brother? But Grover had dismissed his worries.
“You and Bianca both smell very strongly. You must have great powers.”
Besides, that theory was completely destroyed when they arrived camp and Nico could pass through the barrier. Both di Angelo siblings were half-bloods, and half-bloods belonged at Camp Half-Blood.
If only it were that simple.
When Nico spoke to the Stoll brothers, they just assured him that most new campers felt like that. Finding your got parent made things easier. You knew where you belonged. They didn't mention that some were never claimed.
Will usually just advised Nico to find something he was good at and stick to it. “I was claimed when I reattached Drew’s pinkie toe,” he confessed. “I promised her I wouldn't tell, but it's okay, ‘cause it's you, and no one can tell it came off anyway.”
Nico had to try really hard not to stare at Drew Tanaka’s feet the next time she wore flip-flops.
In any case, none of this really helped Nico figured out who his godly parent was or why the camp didn't feel right to him. Nico just grew used to the camp not feeling quite right and enjoying life.
Maybe if he'd paid more attention, he wouldn't have been caught so off-guard.
Nico made a face.
“What's wrong?” Cecil asked.
“My ear is ringing,” Nico said. He reached to cover his ear to see if that would help. It didn't.
Clovis mumbled something sleepily.
“Oh,” Cecil said. “Is it that bad? Can we keep going?”
Nico was about to nod when a sudden pain wracked his body. He clutched his chest and tried to catch his breath. Something was wrong. It wasn't that he didn't belong. It was worse.
He heaved and stumbled forward. Cecil tried to catch him, yelling, “Clovis! Help!”
She was on a boat. The boat rocked enough to make her seasick. She'd never liked water. Strangely, this water didn't make her feel ill. It was calm.
“You said said my passage was completely paid for?” she asked for the third time--just to check.
The boatman huffed. “Yes, miss. Two gods vouched for your passage. There was absolutely no leaving you on the other side.” He sounded a little put out, as if vouching wasn't payment. She wished she had something to offer, but she always used all of her coins to message her brother. All she could do was tug at her braid and hope for the best.
“Will! Will!”
Nico came back to his senses just in time to see Will Solace stumbling over from the stables where his cabin was having lessons. Clovis’s arms were wrapped around Nico’s waist, and Clovis seemed surprisingly alert. Cecil dragged Will down the hill.
“Something's wrong with him, see?”
Nico vaguely recognized that Cecil was gesturing at him, and he absently narrowed his eyes, wanting to protest that he was fine, and Will Solace totally didn't need to check him out, when the ringing resurfaced and his chest tightened.
“We’re here, miss,” the boatman said. She maneuvered through the crowd on the boat--they part for her, really--and hopped off onto the shore.
“Where do I--?” she asked the boatman, but he was already turning around.
“I’ve played my part, miss. You had your passage. You’re not my problem,” he said shortly. The already dark cavern seemed to lose its light. He winced. “Wait right here, miss.”
She frowned. “Wait? For what?”
“Your father.”
“Nico? Nico, deep breaths.”
Will’s voice was already cracking, a little deeper than most of their friends, but at the moment, it was smooth, soft, soothing. He was shining his pocket flashlight into Nico’s eyes, and he winced and blinked. Will gave a tiny breath of relief.
Cecil glanced at him. “Do you know what’s wrong with him?”
“You said he didn’t have any blunt force trauma?” Will confirmed. “He’s not quite responsive, but I think it’s just a panic attack.”
“What caused it?”
Will shrugged. “It’s hard to determine the triggers. He might want to speak to one of my siblings about mental health. His file says he and his sister were in an accident and lost their their memories. It could be some of that resurfacing. But that’s just speculation.”
Clovis remained silent behind him.
Will hummed as he tucked his flashlight away. “Nico, can you speak? If not, just shake your head. We’re in no rush,” he said, voice as warm and perfect as ever. Nico almost thought it was better than Percy’s.
Nico took a rough breath. “Bi--”
Will’s smile faltered. “What?”
Nico doubled over.
A tall man pushed through the thousands of people making their way forward. Most took care to avoid him, but a few bumped into him and practically recoiled. She didn’t feel the same urge to back away. In fact, when she caught his eye, she saw the same look her little brother got when he was ready to a win particularly tough match of Mythomagic.
His face was colder though. He didn’t smile, even as he approached. She straightened her back, feeling so bare without her bow.
He opened his mouth.
“Nico,” warm, breathy in his ear. Whose shoulder was he leaning against? Clovis was a bit back, dozing on a tree. Cecil was--
Fluffy blond hair brushed his cheek. “Hey, breathe. Everything is okay. We’re at camp. We’re safe.”
“Bianca, my only daughter,” he said sadly.
Her throat caught. “Papà . . . .”
“You died a hero. I will give you three options,” he said.
Nico lurched away from Will Solace and ran farther into the forest.
Bianca.
Bianca.
She was dead. Papà--
He let out a yelp.
“Nico?” Worried. Hopeful. They were looking for him. He had to go farther. Beneath his feet, the grass turned brown, then froze over. The death rolled towards the trees--the dryads. No. He had to rein it in.
Nico continued running until he smacked into a wall, catching himself with his hands against the stone.
Suddenly, he knew what to do. He opened the passage and stepped inside.
The passage was dark, but he knew where to go. He walked to the end of a hall, where a ghost smiled to see him.
“Master Nico,” he said brightly. “Your father has sent me to guide you.”
-
When he emerged from the labyrinth, Nico only had to take a few steps before someone caught him. It was Charles Beckendorf. They must have sent all the head counselors to look for him. Great. Just the attention he needed.
“Nico,” Beckendorf heaved. “Thank the gods. The forest can be pretty dangerous.”
“Yeah. We saw the trail of a monster,” said Katie Gardner, walking up behind him. Her face was beet red, and she placed her hands on her knees to catch a breath. “You should know you’re not supposed to run off on your own.”
“He had a panic attack,” Will Solace piped up, running up behind his older brother Lee. “He can’t be held accountable for poor decisions.”
“That’s not entirely true, Will,” Lee warned--his specialty in healing was mental health, and he always seemed to be on Will’s back any time he tried to say anything on the subject. “But since this is his first, I think we can agree he didn’t know what he was doing.”
Nico bit his tongue. No. He couldn’t tell them what he say. Not a thing. Anything he said would just make it worse. It was better to let them worry he had issues than to admit the truth--the truth he’d tried to avoid for so long.
He had no place at Camp Half-Blood.

Note
Not to overburden you with a huge post, but the Seven Halfbloods (who must answer the call)? Specifically Percy/Jason/Nico. I am prepared to fight you if you are certain enough in your opinion if it differs from mine.
haha sure! (sorry this is a few days late) here are the seven + nico:
(as poseidon told percy, BRACE YOURSELF: long post)
ANNABETH CHASEhouse: gryffindor | hufflepuff | ravenclaw | slytherinsurety: ehhh could be anything | don’t know the character well enough | not 100% | my mind might be changed | I’m certain | FIGHT ME ON THIS
Annabeth, my favorite, my childhood hero, my current hero, is such a Slytherin (as am I. no wonder I love her so much). She’s smart, yes, but the way she is described is more cunning/clever. Her plans 99% of the time involve manipulating the adversary through trickery. Also, she’s ambitious: in TLT, she wants so badly to prove herself to everyone. And if we delve into the musical canon, her song ‘my grand plan’ tells about how legacy is important to her, and her ambition, etc: “my grand plan is thaT I WILL BE REMEMBERED…I’LL RISE UP…MY FRIENDS/THE WORLD/MY MOM WILL NOTICE ME”
JASON GRACEhouse: gryffindor | hufflepuff | ravenclaw | slytherinsurety: ehhh could be anything | don’t know the character well enough | not 100% | my mind might be changed | I’m certain | FIGHT ME ON THIS
I try to choose just one house for each character, but for jason I’m torn. I don’t particularly think he has the passion and recklessness of a gryffindor or the ambition of a slytherin (no way a slytherin would give up his praetor position so easily!) One of the reasons he feels more Greek than Roman is that he doesn’t value power as much, he seems more like a thoughtful ravenclaw to me. At the same time, his leadership style and peacemaking point to hufflepuff.
NICO DI ANGELOhouse: gryffindor | hufflepuff | ravenclaw | slytherinsurety: ehhh could be anything | don’t know the character well enough | not 100% | my mind might be changed | I’m certain | FIGHT ME ON THIS
Hadn’t really thought about nico before. He strikes me as someone who doesn’t necessarily fight for a cause, he doesn’t particularly strive to be a hero, eliminating gryffindor. He doesn’t seem slytherin, either: he doesn’t manipulate others or want power (his ghost king powers weren’t a goal of his, he just claimed them for the sake of good). I say ravenclaw because he seems to be motivated more by logic and reason, doing what he does to help the heroes for the sake of saving the world (and eventually because they’re his friends of course). He also gains a decent knowledge of Greek mythology and uses it to help - Achilles curse anyone?
FRANK ZHANGhouse: gryffindor | hufflepuff | ravenclaw | slytherinsurety: ehhh could be anything | don’t know the character well enough | not 100% | my mind might be changed | I’m certain | FIGHT ME ON THIS
Frank’s laid-back, friendly hufflepuff nature kinda makes him stick out at Camp Jupiter and in his heroic pursuits. Everyone sees him as just a nice (clumsy) guy, but as he learns to control his powers and become a leader, he doesn’t lose his hufflepuff nature. He’s naturally a peacemaker, somewhat like Jason (maybe that’s why he so easily replaces him as praetor), but is better at talking to people (think about when jason could’ve been more tactful when he was being suspicious of nico in MoA - I think it was MoA anyway)
HAZEL LEVESQUEhouse: gryffindor | hufflepuff | ravenclaw | slytherinsurety: ehhh could be anything | don’t know the character well enough | not 100% | my mind might be changed | I’m certain | FIGHT ME ON THIS
Hazel’s pretty quiet and kind, like Frank, but I think she’s more of a hero type - one who is brave because that’s their nature, not for the sake of duty or protecting others (though that’s a motivation for her too). She’s daring when she doesn’t have to be - remember her telling Hecate how she’ll create her own path? Hazel definitely strikes me as a naturally heroic demigod.
PIPER MCLEANhouse: gryffindor | hufflepuff | ravenclaw | slytherinsurety: ehhh could be anything | don’t know the character well enough | not 100% | my mind might be changed | I’m certain | FIGHT ME ON THIS
ahh I’m stuck between gryfindor and slytherinPiper’s definitely daring and aggressive in the way gryffindor and slytherin are. She stands up for herself and others, and isn’t afraid to be in the spotlight (by the end of TLH) - as in when she took the counselor position from drew. I get more ‘fight me’ vibes from her than slytherins would usually have, but then again, she plays the charming diplomat in many situations (with Boreas, Aeolus, the Romans, the Kekropes). This could be read either as a gryffindor having to hold their tongue to keep the peace or a slytherin doing what comes naturally to them. Altogether I don’t know which one I’d go with.
LEO VALDEZhouse: gryffindor | hufflepuff | ravenclaw | slytherinsurety: ehhh could be anything | don’t know the character well enough | not 100% | my mind might be changed | I’m certain | FIGHT ME ON THIS
hmm Leo is an interesting character because he comes off as very gryffindor, or possibly hufflepuff? from his dialogue, but internally, he is pretty guarded and more logical/mechanical? I could see him as any of the houses, but ravenclaw seems like the best fit because of his wit combined with his reliance on his brain and tools to fix problems.
PERCY JACKSONhouse: gryffindor | hufflepuff | ravenclaw | slytherinsurety: ehhh could be anything | don’t know the character well enough | not 100% | my mind might be changed | I’m certain | FIGHT ME ON THIS
I saved this for last because I know there is Discourse and I wasn’t even really sure where I stood on the topic? But I’m pretty solidly on the hufflepuff percy train nowyes, percy is heroic and brave and daring, but he is really motivated by his friends. there’s a reason his fatal flaw is loyalty: he might risk the world to save a friend. literally, the reason he goes on his first three quests are: to save his mom (and not be turned into a dolphin), to find grover, and to rescue annabeth. And his motivations for other things, while they might be less direct, usually relate to him wanting to save his friends and the world at large. I see the case for slytherin percy - he does use trickery just as much as annabeth, but also just as much as any other character, that’s just how greek mythology/rick riordan’s writing is. And the moments where percy goes dark, esp in tartarus, do show cold/calculating tendencies. But each time he’s like that, it’s because a friend of his is in danger. Percy has NO ambition. He didn’t WANT to be a half-blood, particularly a child of the Big Three, he didn’t want that power. He was devastated when he found out in TLT and had to go to the poseidon cabin. Percy is the glue in the 7. He’s for sure a hufflepuff, FIGHT ME.
hopefully this isn’t too incoherent! feel free to talk to me about any of these! :)

Dream A Little Dream
My first Clovis x Nico fanfic, because I love this ship so much.
For @percy-potter-sideblog, thank you for urging me to write this <3
Day 2/7 of the @lgbtqpjo 3k celebration.
“Since returning to camp and trying to find some semblance of normalcy again, Nico’s physical health had dramatically increased thanks to Solace’s constant badgering and berating. What hadn’t gotten any better over the past few months however, was his sleeping habits, and more specifically, his dreams.“
A03
“Clovis… Are you sure about this?” Nico asked the boy in front of him, who was staring intensely. People say Nico had a weird aura, but he personally thought it was nothing compared to the aura that surrounded children of Hypnos.
“I offered didn’t I?” Clovis replied, not breaking eye contact even as he stifled a yawn. “Besides, your doctor recommended I help you with your dreams.”
“Please don’t call him my doctor, it’ll only encourage him.”
“Encouraging him to help you is something I actively do, Nico.”
And boy, wasn’t that the truth. Since returning to camp and trying to find some semblance of normalcy again, Nico’s physical health had dramatically increased thanks to Solace’s constant badgering and berating. What hadn’t gotten any better over the past few months however, was his sleeping habits, and more specifically, his dreams.
Bad dreams for demigods were a usual experience. Most campers had their fair share of gruesome nightmares ending in pain and misery. But most campers hadn’t actually met the Goddess of misery and lived to talk about it. Most campers hadn’t walked through a place worse than Hell only to be captured by the enemy and stuffed into a jar. Most campers hadn’t stretched their powers so far they were literally fading from reality.
But Nico had done those things. His body may have healed, but his mind certainly hadn’t.
For the first few weeks after returning to camp, he kept his mouth shut about his nightly trauma, firmly believing that the nightmares would go away on their own.
They didn’t.
After a few weeks of little to no sleep, Nico could barely function enough to join in with camp activities. It got to the point where Solace dragged him to the infirmary to give him a check up. Nico still refused to tell the wannabe doctor about his night terrors.
It wasn’t until Clovis practically dragged him into the Hypnos cabin did he actually admit he may have had a bit of a problem. Clovis pushed him down onto one of the many cloud-like bunks, and simply told him ‘Sleep.’
He was out for 26 hours.
Clovis had made sure he, or one of his siblings, was always present to block the bad dreams, and although Nico was angry at first, he was grateful for the respite from the horror of his subconscious.
Since then, Clovis had made it his personal mission to help Nico block the dreams. Because of this, Nico had taken up residence in the Hypnos cabin for the foreseeable future, sleeping like a log every night thanks to Clovis and his siblings.
But tonight was different.
Tonight, it was Clovis’ turn to trade cabins. The son of Hypnos had insisted that blocking bad dreams was only a temporary fix, that in time, blocking his inner most fears would cause him more pain than do him good. Clovis told him that he’d eventually have to face the horror he’d experienced at the hands of the giants.
Nico thought it was bullshit.
Clovis didn’t care.
“Nico.” He heard the other boy murmur. “You spaced out, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” He insisted. Clovis hummed under his breath, but didn’t say anything more. It was times like these Nico wished he knew what the other was thinking. Clovis was a bit of an oddball, but he was also incredibly intelligent when it came to the Gods and their powers. He was one of the first people to work out what was going on when the Gods were stuck between their Greek and Roman forms. Clovis also had the power to gaze upon the Gods as he slept, something that frankly terrified Nico. Who wanted to see Ares take a shower?
“C’mon we should get to my cabin before curfew.” Nico suggested, turning away from Clovis’ intense stare. The boy trailed after him silently. After spending so much time with the son of Hypnos, his presence was familiar to Nico, maybe even a bit comforting.
They reached the cabin, and Nico let himself in, holding the door for his companion. Clovis looked curiously around the room, probably noting the fact it resembled a vampire’s lair. The coffins had been replaced by actual beds, but Nico hadn’t gotten around to altering anything else about the decor, leaving the cabin not nearly as comfortable looking, nor as welcoming as the Hypnos cabin.
“Sorry about the…” Nico gestured towards the assortment skeleton themed ornaments around the room, but Clovis just shook his head.
“That’s alright. I’m not uncomfortable around things related to death, my Father lives in the underworld, you know?”
“I… didn’t know that actually.” Nico told him, surprised.
“He likes the peace and quiet down there. Way less noisy than on Olympus.”
True enough, Nico thought.
The two boys got ready for bed, Clovis not having to do much since he practically lives in his pajamas.
Nico climbed into his own bunk for the first time in what seemed like forever, Clovis standing beside him.
“Are you ready?” The blond asked, and Nico could already feel his eyes beginning to close.
“Mhhmm.” He intoned his agreement, and felt Clovis’ soft hand brush across his forehead, before falling into unconsciousness
The smell was what hit him first. The stench of burning charcoal and rotting flesh permeated the air, nearly causing him to gag. He opened his eyes, blinking at the desolate mist surrounding him. He was laying on his side, his body screaming in pain. Broken ribs, shattered wrist, bruises all over his body. Familiar injuries, and no less painful that the last time his brain had recreated them in his sleep.
The dreams weren’t all like this; some would revisit his meeting with Misery, others would have him fading out of reality, no one knowing or caring about his absence. All of them did the same thing though. They terrified him.
He was laying in the dirt of Tartarus, with no chance of survival. No help would come. No knight in shining armor would rescue him this time.
Everything hurt, and the fog surrounding him was getting thicker by the second. The repulsive smell was clogging up his airways, sticking to the back of his throat causing him to cough and splutter, which only made his injuries hurt more.
His breaths came out in short pants, not able to do much more. He was suffocating. He was dying.
“Nico.”
His name was spoke softly, juxtaposing his surroundings so vividly he almost wept.
“Nico, look at me.”
He turned his head slowly, and yet the pain was still so immense he nearly lost consciousness. As his eyes focused again, they came to rest on a familiar looking boy; round features, soft hair, kind eyes. The boy sat beside him, watching him closely.
“Clovis.”
And just like that, he remembered.
He wasn’t in Tartarus anymore. Clovis was here. Clovis would help him.
“Clovis… please.” He began to say, sputtering at the fog entering his lungs. “Help me.”
Clovis looked sad at his words, staring down at him with those navy blue eyes.
“I can’t Nico. I can’t help you.”
Can’t? Nico wanted to yell, what did he mean can’t? Clovis seemed to understand his thoughts, because he continued.
“This is your dream Nico. Your challenge to overcome. I helped you block these nightmares so you would regain the strength you had lost, but now you have that strength back, you must fight them with all you have.”
Nico trembled at his words. Fight? There was no fighting this place. No human should ever step foot here. No human had ever committed a crime so terrible to deserve the fate he’d chosen for himself.
Soon, the giants would find him. They would force him to drink from the river Phlegethon, and then stuff him in that godforsaken jar. And there was nothing he could do to stop it.
“Hey,” Clovis caught his hand, dragging his thoughts back to the present. “I’m not asking you to fight the war again, or even to fight the monsters you faced when you were down here. I’m asking you to fight the dream.”
Again, the son of Hypnos has seemingly read his mind, and Nico wondered if they had some sort of telepathic connection here.
“How?” Nico rasped.
Clovis looked at him fondly, and Nico felt his chest twinge in a different way.
“You’ve met me in dreams before Nico, what have we done those times?”
Nico felt his lips twitching at the memories of taking Clovis around 1930’s Venice, or hanging out with him in central park on a summer’s day.
The other boy’s eyes sparkled with amusement, probably knowing what Nico was thinking about.
‘You did that’ Nico tried to communicate through his thoughts instead of having to talk.
“Did I?” Clovis asks, humming at the thought. “I suppose I may have contributed a fair amount to our little outings together, but a lot of it was you. Do you think I could have recreated Venice in the 1930’s? Or the memory of your favorite ice-cream flavor? No, that was all you.”
Nico hadn’t really thought about it before, but he supposed that made sense. His memories had influenced both of their dreams, even though he couldn’t actually control them.
“Ahh, now you’re getting it.” Clovis told him, smiling. It wasn’t often the other boy outright smiled, and Nico felt a swell of pride at seeing it. “Remember how it feels to be in camp, running after Percy, or fighting Jason. Remember how your body feels when it’s at it’s peek, full of energy and life. Remember how it feels to stand at the ocean and breath the clean air. You have to remember.
At his words, the memories of Camp came flooding back to him. He remembers batting Solace’s hand’s away, insisting he’s fine, because this time he actually is. He remembers shadow traveling across the dining pavilion to grab an apple and not feeling nauseous afterwards. He remembers waking up one morning in the Hypnos cabin, only to find a sleeping Clovis passed out next to him. He remembers watching the boy, not really sure why, other than the fact that he could. He remembers it all, and he gulps in steady breaths of clean air as his pain vanishes.
He scrambles to sit up, immediately checking over his body for the injuries he had felt mere seconds ago. But they weren’t there.
He looks to Clovis, who has a light blush on his face, and is smiling fondly at him. Nico flushes in embarrassment as he remembers the last thought he had before his miraculous recovery.
“You did it.” Clovis congratulates him softly. Only then does he realize they aren’t in Tartarus anymore.
The hard dirty ground of Tartarus had been replaced by soft sheets, the disgusting stench was now subtle hints of lavender. They were in the Hypnos cabin back at camp.
“Are we still dreaming?” Nico asked in a hushed voice, even though the cabin was empty.
“Yes.” Clovis said gently.
Nico nods, letting out a huge sigh, face in his hands. That was intense, like nothing he’d ever experienced before. He felt like he could sleep for a week, and yet, he was already sleeping.
“Why do you think us Hypnos kids sleep all the time?” Clovis chuckled, and Nico realized the other boy could still hear his thoughts.
“It’s because in the physical world, I’m touching you right now.” Clovis answered his unasked question with a grin, and Nico felt himself beginning to blush.
“You’re sleeping with me in my bed?!” He asked, panicking a little.
Clovis laughs again, shaking his head.
“No, it’s nothing like that. I’m just sitting beside the bed, holding your hand.”
Oh. That must be uncomfortable, Nico thinks.
“I’ve slept in weirder places, believe me.”
“Stop doing that.” Nico tells him, not wanting the other to delve too deeply into his mind.
“Then we should wake up.”
Before Nico could say another word, he finds himself blinking awake in his own cabin, a warmth engulfing his left hand. He looks to the side of the bed, finding a very sleepy Clovis blinking up at him.
It only takes a second of indecision, before Nico is pulling the other boy into bed. Clovis looks shocked at the event unfolding, before shrugging and closing his eyes without a single word.
“Don’t get too comfortable, sleeping beauty, this is a onetime thing.” Nico tells his new bed-mate gruffly, before settling down himself, very careful not to touch the child of Hypnos.
And if they they wake up spooning together, well, no one is there to prove it.
