As far as character progression goes, I'd argue that the most important aspect of the RLJ reveal isn't just Jon learning that he isn't Ned's son. The most important part is him learning that he isn't Ned Stark's bastard son. He's spent all his life chasing after Ned's shadow, trying to prove to himself and to the world that he is worthy of being Ned Stark's son, "let them say that Eddard Stark had fathered four sons not three", “he was not a Stark but he could die like one” and all that. He's internalized the shame of being the one stain on honorable Ned Starks' reputation
“But it’s a lie,” Jon insisted. How could they think his father was a traitor, had they all gone mad? Lord Eddard Stark would never dishonor himself … would he? He fathered a bastard, a small voice whispered inside him. Where was the honor in that? And your mother, what of her? He will not even speak her name.
So it's important for him to finally stop chasing after that elusive shadow. It's important for him to understand that Ned's dishonor was a deliberate choice that he made by himself, and it's thus no fault of his own. Once Jon internalizes that, then he can finally move on and ask himself, who am I? What do I want for myself? What can I be in this world, just as I am? So far, he's been unable to do that successfully because he still has an incomplete (and false) understanding of who he is.
#jon snow#asoiaf#valyrianscrolls#jon specifically being ned’s bastard cannot be overstated#it heavily colors his outlooks on his own life and how he navigates through the world#like let’s talk about his sex hangups for example#being ned's bastard is so so important to his character arc#ffs whenever he meets someone new it’s always you must be ned stark’s bastard#it’s how he and everyone else understand his role in life so for him to progress as a character we need to ask#what happens when jon is no longer ned stark’s bastard?#what happens when the one thing that drove him to the wall - to seek glory and kickstarted his heroic journey#is proven to be false?#what then?#what does he do then? where does he go then? who does he become then?#I think he will at first be resistant - and it’s been my personal theory that his learning of robb’s will#will coincide with that and that will be the greatest temptation for him#just like with stannis’ offer and how he agonized over it he will try to cling to some form of#-I can still be ned’s son can’t I? look robb legitimized me as such-#yes I think he’ll already be aware of his parentage by the time he learns of the will#but ultimately he will choose to forge his own path in the end just like he chose to remain with the nw#which then doesn’t look good for the kitn prospects I’m ngl 😬#because just like accepting Stannis’ offer meant desecrating his father’s gods#accepting the will while knowing that he has no right over his now cousins would straight up be usurpation regardless of age or skill#and I can see grrm throwing in that moral dilemma for Jon because his arc is full of them#but just as he rejected stannis and ended up as lc then his final rejection will lead to something else that is greater - king of winter 🤭#Just my opinion tho 🙂#tagging#eddard stark#r plus l equals j#As well

I was always enraged at the way capitalism has devalued some of the most important labour in human history, but now I'm even more angry since I have started getting more into crafts.
So many people are alienated from the world to such an extent they don't realize how fucking important textiles and construction and art and culinary labour is, because its all ubiquitous under capitalism: it is all profit, and if it isn't profit, then it is worthless. People don't realize just how revolutionary all of the labour was, how important it is, and was, to our survival. And that enrages me.

This is quite a broad question, but how do you define masculinity and femininity?
A set of culturally dictated traits which reflect cultural biases and social dynamics, and are forcibly assigned to men and women (and people perceived as men or women) through social and even institutional pressures.
Femininity and masculinity are in no way innate to women and men respectively, they're categories that exist to reinforce patriarchy, heteronormativity, cissexism, and even less directly associated power structures like white supremacy.
And as a sidenote, I don't think there's anything wrong with identifying with femininity or masculinity - they're all just collections of traits and there are positive and negative and neutral traits in both categories (though generally more negative feminine traits for the reasons described above lol.)
But I think that in an ideal world masculinity and femininity would not be coherent categories of traits, even if men and women are still coherent categories of people, and I think trying to redefine or reinterpret femininity or masculinity more positively rather than interrogating the reasons traits like passivity or objectification or irrationality are considered feminine and traits like anger, dominance, and violence are considered masculine misses the point. It's much more valuable to fight against gender essentialism and dismantle the categories of masculinity and femininity entirely than to attempt to redefine these categories positively while still associating them with men and women imo.
But also since we don't live in that ideal world it remains useful and interesting to analyse the portrayals of masculinity and femininity in media, and as a gender nonconformity enthusiast it's one of my favourite things to do lol
Thanks for the ask! It's always good to actually define terms, especially politically loaded terms like these.

Someone told me that Mario treats Luigi badly in games, is that true?
I don't understand much about it, I just watched the movie
Sorry for the late reply on this 🙏🏻 I put this aside for a bit until I could find the time to answer and make sure I had the right stuff.
Oh boy. Take a seat cause this one is going be a ride...
So there's a certain part of the Mario fandom that believes Mario is a bad brother to Luigi. And a bad person in general. I'm not 100% sure where this all started, but to put it simply, there's been this "running joke" as such in the games where Luigi is an underdog and gets left behind and disrespected, but Mario goes on the adventures and gets all the praise.
This is not a narrative of the games. It's just a recurring "joke" that's spread out through multiple games and spinoffs of the Mario series.
In regards to Mario - people like to point out instances in the games where Mario doesn't seem to care or react to the way Luigi is treated, but the main source people turn to is this scene from Mario Power Tennis (a sports spin-off game released on the GameCube in 2004). In this game, whenever the characters win a tournament and get a trophy a cutscene plays. This one in particular just so happens to be (mostly) the source to the claims of Mario being a bad brother - as in the cutscene Mario steps on Luigi's foot while his brother is celebrating, and laughs in his face!
Now, I don't recall any feedback on this scene back in the day - as the internet and social media sites were still pretty young back then. But it wasn't until a certain YouTuber, Mat Pat from Game Theory (and maker of other theory videos) published the infamous "Mario is Mental" video on October 20th 2013. I'm sure you can guess just based on the title - but long story short the video goes out of its way to go through various instances in Mario's history to pinpoint the plumber as a terrible person - including putting a spotlight on the Mario Power Tennis scene. THIS is basically the snowball that truly seemed to cement the "Mario is a bad brother" believers - and to this day they will still bring up that particular scene and Mat Pat!
You can see why a lot of us were pretty happy to see the brothers portrayed with such a loving relationship in the movie ^^
Quick disclaimer to all: this is NOT a hate on Mat Pat or any other Mario fans. This is for educational purposes, and I'm certain I haven't got ALL the facts right. Please do not go and harass any of these people - especially Mat Pat. There is no reason to do that to anyone, and I don't tolerate that behaviour.
Anyway, hope that helped you understand the situation better :)
To answer you question: NO. Mario is NOT a bad brother. It's not true. It's just more a case of a running joke and a theory video being blown out of proportion and some fans still cling to it. But Mario and Luigi are just as loving as they are in the movie :)
I recommend checking out the Mario & Luigi games. They are PACKED with brotherly love ^^

there r fics that make u insane (so amazingly good it’s removed ur sanity) and then there’s fics that make u insane (you need to fistfight the author for how they did a specific thing that caused u to rant for hours)
#i know i just posted that other thing but ffs that is NOT how u handle someone in that situation everyone involved made everything 10x worse#yet it’s being treated like the right thing to do (which again ofc they’re cops they don’t understand harm reduction but still) like#seriously everything’s so forceful like u seriously think forcing ur friend to talk to u or forcing a patient to talk to a therapist under#the threat of being admitted to a psychiatric hospital is gonna make her feel comfortable talking to u? or anyone? she’s just gonna trust u#less and get better at hiding it and speaking of which the taking away all sharp objects thing makes sense in theory but like think abt it#for a minute she confirmed she isn’t suicidal and this is her only way of coping so do not just forcibly take away all her coping mechanism#like yes she is hurting herself but it’s a COPING MECHANISM. she’s coping with something. help her with that don’t just take away her penci#sharpers or whatever (which btw since she’s an adult she could easily buy more stuff and yk learn to hide it better) which again has to be#voluntary it isn’t gonna work if u force someone to do smthn they don’t want to like as ur friend u could’ve made it clear u care abt her#and wouldn’t judge her for anything and r here if she wants to talk don’t just say “you have to talk to me” and casually threaten#hospitalisation when she isn’t ready in the moment like seriously if this wasn’t a badly written fanfic she would completely stop trusting#bcz given that this wasn’t even done out of panic i would like ffs u are NOT doing any of this right#oops sorry ranted abt the bad fic in my tags-#it’s not where the author’ll see it and know it’s about them i don’t feel bad abt it#this was my first time even looking at stuff for this fandom so#cw self harm in tags#idk if i need to tag anything else for that 😭#fanfic#ao3#ryan shut the fuck up

rereading legacy and i keep fixating on the detail that in the dwarven King’s Path when Sophie’s having her hallucinations, as you do, she feels her own ears are pointy. while also hallucinating the Neverseen welcoming her with open arms. and this is during the time she’s looking into her bio parents.
I’ve leaned towards Gethen as her father fairly consistently and already made several posts about him and other potential fathers—including Fintan. but I’ve never though about how the ancient ears during the hallucinations may be another hint, as they’re a great place (and so are dreams) to include foreshadowing because they don’t have to make sense with the rest of the characters knowledge. like Sophie dreaming of Brant burning off her hand a book before his own was burned off
I’ve gone in circles on the topic but I’m coming back to consider Fintan again because of the pointy ear thing there. If it’s him, I assume the situation would be: he was approached as a scorned member of society (his connection to the Neverseen unknown) who Forkle thought would be sympathetic to the changes they’re trying to bring about, Fintan agreed in part because he agrees changes need to be made, and in part because he has a secret hope he could sway/get Sophie to his side via familial relation or something similar. that parentage would be catastrophic (fitting forkle’s comment) on many levels, originally because of the rules against pyrokinetics being matched and having kids (especially as a former councillor who is supposed to be better about the laws), and now for his murderous actions and criminal behavior
anyway. still no closer to definitively deciding whether i think her father is gethen or fintan (and don’t worry, im aware of evidence and reasoning beyond this post, this is about the king’s path detail) I’m just further complicated my theorizing attempts and writing it down to make sense of it

all classpect interpretations are equally canon- and this is why:
sburb/sgrub/sname is many things, but the first of those things we see is a computer game. said game's source code can be found in carvings in the frog temple, which comes from a Reckoning meteor; so each sthing version's code comes specifically from itself!
and considering every session we've seen has had an unique frog temple (beta kids: 4 land spires; beta trolls: two separate temples with 6 land spires each; alpha kids: 8 land spires, alpha trolls: at least one temple (with 12 land spires??), possibly located on beforus' moon), there's no reason to assume each and every temple's carvings are exactly the same…
therefore, two swhatever instances can have drastically different classpect definitions because they're running different versions of the game! for example, my own mirrorbent's sgame was compiled in a way where i won't have to go into too many specifics from their own, separate, 12 land spires temple (as opposed to being widely distributed like the beta kids' sburb), and classwise features active knights and passive pages, to pick an example that was recentlyish polled about.
of course, this mini theory thingy would be most applicable to fanventures, while most classpecting theory revolves about homestuck proper for obvious reasons. luckily, i've got some Key Insights about the canon classpects, just beyond this readmore:

I need to make a confession
I genuinely do not understand Buggy simps
Like I thought y'all were joking with the whole rooting for Buggy-thing but. No. People are actually seriously rooting for him. And I just don't get it.
Like. I can't tell if I'm missing something or if people are somehow completely misinterpreting his actual character. Like clearly it's meant to be one or the other and I can't tell which and I feel like I'm losing my mind because of it
'Cause the thing is that. Like. Until now, Buggy has been a pure gag character. He's no different from characters like Ceasar Clown and Spandam in that sense, he's just nowhere near as vile a human being as those other gag characters so he's marginally more lovable in what a pathetic fuck he is. But in the end, Buggy's just been there to be a punching bag (quite literally), because it's funny as hell to watch him eat shit And the reason it's funny IS because Buggy is a piece of shit. Again, not nearly as bad as Spamdam and co, but he's still a lying, cowardly, spineless douchebag who uses others for his own benefit and is willing to ditch anyone to save his own skin. Like Buggy was going to ditch his entire crew and flee by himself when the Shichibukai System was taken down and the Marines came for his head. He was going to leave his crew to die by themselves, without participating in the fight at all. Buggy was the one telling them to do the hard lifting while he'd escape, while the crew had no idea their beloved Chairman was going to abandon them. Literally the only reason Buggy failed to do that was because he was too slow and Crocodile got there before he managed to skedaddle.
He is essentially Usopp if Usopp wasn't willing to get beaten to death to protect his friends and their honor. Even fucking Luffy thinks Buggy is a pathetic idiot, and Luffy is the biggest indicator in the whole series on how to tell whether or not the readers should like a character or not. Not to mention, all the in-universe Buggy simps have been portrayed as (precious) idiots who can't see through Buggy's bullshit. Like every step of the story Oda has been trying to tell us that Buggy is an absolute loser.
So when people are like "Mihawk and Crocodile are going to see Buggy's ambition and become full Buggy supporters themselves!" I just
Are we reading the same comic???? HELLO????
Like I'll give you this, it would be objectively the funniest fucking outcome imaginable, which would be on-brand for Buggy and his trend of falling upwards.
But between Mihawk respecting people who are willing to abandon their honor to protect someone dear to them, and Crocodile's deep trust issues (possibly rooted in being betrayed in the past), I can not fucking fathom the two ever genuinely siding with Buggy the "I will leave you to die by yourself to save myself" Clown. Not when the two (and most other characters, including fucking Galdino and Daz) have been able to judge Buggy's character accurately (like how Crocodile was like "I thought you'd have ran away by now" when he arrived at Emptee Bluffs, and Buggy was like "yeah no shit")
Not unless Buggy grows enough of a spine that he'd be willing to sacrifice himself for someone (or at least get hurt on someone else's behalf to protect them), more specifically Mihawk and Crocodile. And let's be real, right now, Buggy probably wants nothing more than to run away from the two before they do actually kill him.
I just
Buggy simps. I do not understand you. I don't understand how you've reached your reading of the character.

I know this is probably nothing and just my bored mind going places, but thought it would be interesting. Recall how IMAGE_FRIEND, the eyes from the Spamton Sweepstakes, and Spamton's glasses themselves (which are implied to have been influenced by the previous two examples) all share connection to the colors yellow and pink. While thinking about this, something dawned on me. In Undertale, you can change YELLOW spare names to be PINK instead if you want (like I said this probably nothing, but it is interesting that there seems to be connection between the colors yellow and pink).
