"the way they killed medusa was stupid" "using the hat to kill medusa was dumb" that's because this show isn't written for action and blood and gore its written for STORYTELLERS ofc the "fight with medusa" wasn't epic and bloody that would defeat the whole point INSTEAD it was symbolic and set up narrative arcs. it was annabeth passing on the invisibility her mother cursed her with to a woman who was cursed never to be seen. it was paralleling the original perseus myth where he uses the helm of darkness alongside his shield and shoes from athena and hermes. it was setting up the conflict between percy and annabeth about giving up the hat and making annabeth suffer an emotional loss to go on with the quest versus imposing the consequences of medusa's story and tragedy on the gods themselves.

imagine watching a scene where annabeth increasingly gets defensive and 12-year-old lashing out with "but my mother is always just" "that isn't how the story goes" and "you're a LIAR" imagine watching the air go out of the room as "i'm a survivor" "i was you" "i would have been content to worship her for a lifetime... in silence" medusa breaks her calm demeanor at having her story erased once more imagine watching annabeth appear out of nowhere and make medusa disappear with the powers that athena granted her so that a son of poseidon can murder her and your main thought being "awwwww but i wanted it to be more epicccccc i wanted blood and gore and decapitationnnnnn" imagine missing the whole point of the entire percy jackson series that bad

think about it. Percy’s standing at the top of the hill, ready to leave for the school year. A familiar *vwump* and annabeth appears next to him, holding her invisibility hat.

“so you’re leaving?” she asks. cautiously.

“just for the school year,” says Percy. “mom found me a new one. she says this is gonna be the year, the year I don’t get kicked out.”

annabeth ponders this.

“I’ll send you a picture,” she says. “To make sure you don’t forget me.” she’s only half joking.

Percy grins. “I’d like that.”

someone calls for annabeth, back down at the Big house. “Well,” she says. “Better be going.”

She hesitates, then gives him a hug.

“Bye, seaweed brain.”

“See you later. Uh, wise girl.”

And then Percy’s final monologue of the show picks up as he gets in the car and it drives away.

Listen is so great you don't understand. It's an episode about mental illness. And some people point out that some of the things that happen (the kid under the blanket, the airlock mechanism triggering) are on the surface unlikely, but that's the exact point. The Doctor is not an objective narrator, I mean this is the episode that starts with him sitting on top of the TARDIS in space speechifying, we see it in the way he frames it, so we see these ordinary things (a mischievous child, a dead ship breaking down) in the uncanny way he sees them—

—and because he is the Doctor, because he is the person who bad guys pause their plans to listen when he talks, because he is charismatic and impressive and the Oncoming Storm—

—because he's the Doctor, Clara (and baby Danny and Orson) start to believe him, until they arrive on Gallifrey, until Clara sees the root of his trauma, and she understands.

And it doesn't matter if this creature is a delusion or not, it only matters that it scares him, because fear is a superpower, and the way he responds to the reality he experiences is why he's the Doctor.

Fanfic No. 4: Percy Jackson and the HalfBloody War

Type of Fic: Canon divergence, .8k words and 2 chapters, incomplete, took less than a month to write, rated K+.

“Percy and Thalia are leading two armies to Sedona, AZ to ensure the safety of Camp HalfBlood. First chapter is a little short and slow, but I promise it will pick up. Please R&R”

Length: The length was a bit awkward. Albeit the first chapter is a prologue so it’s allowed to be limited but the pacing in both chapters was strange.

Formatting and Content: The plot was incredibly limited. Again, the first chapter is a prologue so there is leeway to be short, but the second chapter felt like a scene pulled out of the middle of the story. Multiple grammatical errors. 

Characterization: The story was very plot driven and short so there was not much characterization to go off of. The dialogue was very formal and input or reflection from characters was limited.

Reception: There are 12 reviews that are mixed. There is some hate but most reviews are praise and constructive criticism. There are also 3 favorites and 3 follows. 

Author: Author Seaweed-Brain seems to be a male author, which is not only the first time we have seen that (confirmed at least), but also male writers are a lot less common in fanfiction for some reason, which makes the author a bit more interesting. Author loves Percy Jackson and has an affinity for waffles as seen on the account and in ANs. In ANs author primarily asks for reviews and apologizes for the length and the asynchronous update schedule. The account went inactive in 2007 and this is his only fic, so we can only wish him the best. 

Impact: I don’t have much feeling attached to this fic because it was just so short. If it had been continued and developed we might have seen where it would have gone I would have more of an opinion.
