the fact that you fools are shipping these cringey ooc fanon characters together is almost comforting to me (the biggest wolfstar hater ever). because those caricatures are so far removed from their canon descriptions that it feels like yall are just admitting they would never work without some serious character bending.

marauders era unpopular opinions, once more

i really don’t like fanon regulus. i don’t like him being helpless and kind and a sirius variant. he’s morally grey, leaning towards morally dark, he’s selfish, he agreed to his parents’ and voldemort’s ideologies, having joined the death eaters most likely by his own will (unlike draco malfoy). but obviously, everyone is allowed to characterise characters the very way they want to

and while we’re on it, i don’t like evan and barty either, for the same reason. maybe i would, if they were realistically characterised (i LOVE reading morally grey or morally dark(er) characters), and once again, i believe that just because one likes a character, that doesn’t always mean that the character is a good person

and continuing on the same topic, the sunshine james potter, although being a topic that i like and delved deeper into myself, is nice, but i would also love to see more of arrogant, spoiled james potter, too

not liking severus snape and peter pettigrew but liking evan, barty and regulus is kind of hypocritical

i don’t like jegulus

i also don’t like the casanova, bad boy characterisation of remus, and the helpless, needy characterisation of sirius either. to me, they’re out of character, overly done and absolutely not enjoyable

and because i earlier mentioned severus snape, i think he’s an interesting character, actually. that doesn’t make him a good person (once again, i believe him to be morally grey, too) and i can’t call myself a lover of his, however i find his story and character very interesting and compelling

i don’t like a lot of the wolfstar dynamics in current fandom

“we need more content about the girls!” literally do it yourself. please. whenever i write content about the men, i get a wave of new followers, and whenever i post about the non-men, suddenly i have tebs of people unfollowing me. oh, and my posts about the men have twice or thrice the notes of the other ones

sirius > regulus

and speaking of which, sirius is such an interesting character, and he was reduced by many people to nothing, or whatever is relevant to the plot

james would pick sirius over regulus any time, with literally no hesitation

i don’t care about popular fics (read or don’t read, i generally don’t read popular fics to be honest), however i do care about the way creators, especially writers, are treated in this fandom. i made a few posts about this topic, feel free to ask me to link them to you, but the way some people feel entitled to fic and fandom content is horrible

just imagining (canon compliant) Theodore Nott dating fem!Wolfstar!reader and like the angst of it because realistically, Sirius’ daughter dating a Slytherin?? Sirius’ daughter dating a Nott?? A very well known family of followers of Voldemort? And all Remus knows about Theo is that he was the quietest of the boys in reader and Theo’s year and that he didn’t spend time with Draco and Draco’s friends. Sirius tries to get information from Harry and Harry doesn’t even know Theo exists so he asks Hermione who Theo is and Hermione rolls her eyes because Theo is not only a lone wolf and quiet, but he’s highly skilled in Potions and Ancient Runes and it frustrates Hermione because she has never once seen Theo in the library studying.

(Non-canon compliant because Enzo is a fanon character) So Harry asks Neville, Seamus, and Dean for more information because while Remus knows enough information to judge now, Sirius is still not too happy about this arrangement. Harry learns from Neville, Seamus, and Dean that Theo rarely speaks, but they have seen the boy hang out with Enzo and Blaise on numerous occasions.

Sirius is still not too pleased because while he now knows Theo is not a complete loner who’s intelligent is normal Pureblood subjects, Theo is friends with a Zabini, a rich and powerful family, and a Berkshire, a Pureblood family not part of the Sacred 28 and Sirius isn’t too impressed in the choice of friends the Nott boy has made. Sirius asks Harry to get Ron’s brothers, known pranksters and troublemakers who are good friends of reader, to pull a prank in Theo’s vicinity to see how the Slytherin reacts. Sirius believes that a guy who doesn’t enjoy pranks isn’t good enough for his daughter.

So Fred and George pull off a prank on Lorenzo Berkshire while Enzo’s spending time with Blaise and Theo. The twins somehow, I’m not good at writing pranks, get paint all over Enzo and Blaise and Theo by accident. Enzo’s trying to laugh it off because it’s Fred and George, they obviously didn’t mean any harm while Blaise is disgruntled and trying to not hex the twins because now he has to wash paint out of his hair which is not an easy task and he’s just praying the paint Fred & George used wasn’t acrylic. Theo’s smirking and holding back a chuckle at Enzo and Blaise’s reactions, not even noticing the paint that splattered onto him. Fred and George are rolling around on the grass, laughing so hard their lungs hurt and while all of this is happening, reader is only standing a distance away, mouth ajar and eyes wide because Fred and George had sworn Theo would be off limits now that Theo was dating reader.

I might honestly end up writing this myself because I’m so hooked on it now. Also, in my mind fem!Wolfstar!reader is also a Ravenclaw and secretly highly mischievous.

The Evolution Of A Wolfstar Girlie

(with my fic recommendations)me aged 10-23: there will never be a book I like more than Harry Potter. I love books and read all the time but Harry Potter is above anything. Reread HP everytime I am feeling down.

me aged 24-30: I lost the ability to read for pleasure. Just read to my kids and A LOT for work.

me at 31: *after a random tiktok video* Sirius and Remus were TOGETHER together?! Never even crossed my mind!!!

But... I get it.

But like... JKR didn't write it. Fanfic is just amateurs writing, right? I have enough of reading as is, I have to read for my job (I'm a translator).

But... They promised it's a HP experience. And I do have an eReader... It costs nothing to try it.

But... What the hell is ao3? What is smut??? Fluff??? HEA? MCD??? Cannon?? AU? Excuse me, is this English?!

The following then happend over 2 months time:

📖 Reading All the Young Dudes

OK, this is really very much like HP. I am getting hooked. This is ACTUALLY what happend, right? Like this is amazingly written. How is this not a real book? (What IS a real book and how do I not know this being a book translator?!) Are Sirius and Remus getting together in this one?

Actually, I've not been this obsessed with a book in like 10+ years.

Reading all through the night (with three kids, mind you, so a very stupid idea)

wow. I am utterly amazed... cannot put this down at any point of the day. Reading while breastfeeding, reading all through the night. Reading all through the day. Learning how to read and braid my hair at the same time.

I keep thinking - why DO I love gay man/boys stories? How did it come to this? How is this FREE? How do I GIVE BACK to these AMAZING authors that are just doing incredible things for me? Like this is everything I've ever wanted from a book... and they're not even getting paid for this?!

This is so good, you guys. I love JEGULUS!

But as long as WOLFSTAR are together, I can deal (took them half a fic to get together, so please don't do anything stupid!)

I. CANNOT. STOP. READING. WOLFSTAR.

In every universe.

Wolfstar & fanfic taught me not to have any prejudice. And I also discovered that I was quite prejudiced without being aware of it!

I can read anything with those two... just don't break my heart and just let them be together.

Wolfstar made me read again and actually enjoy it. It's been several thousands of pages in a couple of months and I don't regret the lack of sleep…

They are soulmates. In every universe. I don't know what this fetish is called but I need them to be together, see them together, read them together. Love them both. Just need them to be happy.

I am completely amazed at the sheer power the internet has, that an online community has. This is my new obsession and I am utterly devoted to it. It taught me and gave me SO MUCH. I will forever be learning how to give anything back.

You’ve put me to work with this sweet anon.

Sirius will have about three drinks on the go at any one time and even if the glass or bottle is empty, there’s a strong possibility it’s going to stay there for a day or two until he needs more room. He used to hate tea, but has learnt to tolerate and maybe even prefer it at times through Remus’ persistent feeding. He hates anything with berries as it lays bitter on his tongue, but will happily sip chamomile or lemon at any hour. He has an alarm clock that always malfunctions which Remus reaches over to slam off every time but Sirius insists he’s too attached to get rid. One of Remus’ watches will be right next to it so he can peep his eyes open and check the time. A hair bobble which always falls behind the nightstand and because he’s too lazy to retrieve them he replenishes them instead. Sometimes there will be a stray ribbon and crescent moon-hair clip if he’s worn it that day, otherwise those accessories are usually shoved in the top drawer. There will be one book on there that will go unread for weeks but never moves, or, if he’s on a reading train there will be a new book every week because he can absorb information fast and tends to get hyper fixated. The books never have bookmarks and are always dogeared which sends Remus into a spiral. A jewellery stand in the shape of an ornate middle finger where he can stack his rings. His wand will be under his pillow for easy access.

Remus’ wand is in the top drawer. He tends to sleep walk/talk and turns out it’s not ideal having a wand so readily available to his subconscious, which they learned through unfortunate events. The drawer also contains a Polaroid picture of him and Sirius that Sirius took haphazardly. His is more orderly, despite being the less coordinated of the two. There are always two books, one that he’s currently reading/annotating, another that he’s lined up to begin. If there’s a mug, it’s on a coaster. The tea is nearly always either green tea or earl grey, he rarely dabbles in other flavours, just likes collecting the fancy ones ‘just incase’. A moonstone, gifted in jest by James as a house warming present to “make him feel more at home”. Reading glasses, always stacked on top of the books with a little lens cleaning cloth folded on top.

I can’t think of anything specific when it comes to what the boys would enjoy watching but I’d say Remus loves a classic romantic comedy, the old school rom-com, and wildlife documentaries. Sirius is more a horror enthusiast, making Remus sit through the goriest shit and explaining why it’s not realistic at all or how it could be ‘done better’.

wolfstar (remus x sirius), long au with suggestive themes

thinking about parisian!sirius, who moved out from london with his family when he was barely 12, and now being 21 his beloved childhood friends, james, peter and remus, are visiting him for the first time in paris.

sirius gets so excited about them coming over that he starts annotating which pubs are worth it and which aren't. he gets more and more nervous when their reunion is approaching that he finds himself trying to guess which places in the city will the boys like better.

"james would love to hang out anywhere, only because we will be together... but maybe he would like it even more with a pint or two."

"peter... that boy would follow us everywhere. even if we plot a murder, he'd choose to be there with us."

and then there is remus. remus.

most of the time sirius has to stop and truly think to himself, "what will remus like?"

truth be told, he has not seen them in such a long time, sirius sometimes has this thought that they may feel like foreigners to him now. he knows what they look like. he knows how their voices sound through the phone. he knows that james has a big crush on this red haired girl from university. he knows peter trains every morning with james against his own will.

but what does he knows about remus that remus dares to admit to him outloud? being realistic, not too much.

so sirius keeps repeating the same question, like a mantra in his head, "what will remus like?"

"the louvre, probably, he likes art. but no... that is too cliché for him..."

"headquarters of the communist party? it's nice and it has history. oh, but he will think i want to come off as some know-it-all..."

luckily when they arrive sirius doesn't have to worry about such questions anymore. between what james and remus planned beforehand, their excruciatingly long to-do list covered almost everything you could do for several weeks.

it is james who shows the biggest excitement among them, hugging sirius thrice when they finally meet, the way a true big brother would do. peter seems nervous, as if the city would swallow him. and remus, always sweet remus, who has grown taller than sirius and now sirius has to tilt his head backwards to get a full view on his face.

although they do not hug, their smiles are enough.

the boys are staying at sirius' place, who, since starting university, moved out and now gets to live in a beautiful, perfectly decorated flat just in the center of the city, away from his awful family.

they go out, explore the city, play records at sirius' apartment, smoke a lot and drink a lot. it's always sirius' treat, and even though they offer to pay him back, they forget about it when james and remus have to carry a pretty much wasted sirius to the taxi.

they all have their individual bedrooms (thank god sirius' place is huge), therefore one night, when remus slips under sirius' bedsheets, sirius doesn't know what to do. sure that night they drank heavily as they are used to do, but is remus that drunk to get his own bedroom wrong?

they fall into comfortable silence, until remus speaks, his words a low whisper, coated in sweetness and truthfulness which makes sirius doubt whether he is supposed to hear them or not.

"i missed you a lot."

sirius tries to conceal he's started to feel nervous by slowly rolling to one side. in a gentle motion, as if otherwise he would disrupt the quietness of the moment, he gets the pack of cigarettes that rested on the bedside table.

"want one?" he offers.

"enough for tonight i'd say."

in the end, they share the cigarette. the only sound in the room being them inhaling and exhaling the smoke, with open windows.

"you've grown handsome, you know?" sirius chooses to break the silence, admiting the truth that remained unspoken among the friend group. remus is now the tallest one, his chiseled jawline and soft stare makes him objectively handsome.

"are you hiding your girl from us, or?" sirius inquires, giving the fact that remus had not talked about any girls he was curious about with them.

remus shows the most delicate smile sirius has ever seen. even surrounded by darkness, sirius still manages to contemplate remus' eyes looking straight into his.

"no, not interested at all in girls."

sirius stops asking then.

after that night, they start looking for each other's eyes constantly. james and peter seem to not notice this, or rather choose to ignore it. under the table their knees brush, their bodies craving for some closure.

all of them keep going out. they go to every touristy place in the city, drink and smoke and joke around. they laugh a lot.

one night while on their new favourite place, a famous leftist bar next to sirius' place, remus sits next to sirius, then whispers in his ear, a grin plastered on his face: "viens me faire un bisou."

at first he did not understand his thick english accent while trying to speak in french, but, oh, when the realization hits him... sirius' mind goes blank.

"what?"

"a guy over there said it to me, what does it mean?"

remus is drunk, but so is sirius, and this situation couldn't be worse now that james and peter are looking at them pretty much confused and curious at the same time.

"nothing important, it's a joke about tourists."

sirius can tell that remus doesn't believe him.

and so that very same night remus goes to sirius' bedroom once again.

"what did it mean, sirius? the french phrase, i mean." remus mutters, getting under sirius's sheets with an upsetting casualness.

sirius could lie, of course. but something in the back of his mind tells him not to do it. like a man standing in front of a cliff ready to jump, he responds.

and this time they lose all of their inhibitions.

neither james nor peter will know that sirius admitted what that phrase truly meant. they won't know as well how one of remus' hands caressed sirius' long hair, or how sirius pulled the tallest one closer against him.

it is a secret they keep to themselves. the cigarettes they smoke after daring to touch each other, the long conversations when no one could hear them. breaking a secret vow and creating a new one, with the prospect that they could embrace freely each other again and again.

night after night, remus keeps going to sirius' room. and, as if desire had taken over them, both become bolder.

it is in pub's restrooms where they kiss each other without shame. sometimes the sounds of belts undoing and zippers going down accompany the fervor of the kisses. although this only happens whenever their friends start a heated discussion with at least three other people in the pub because, of course, only james potter could manage to get three or four parisians to discuss in english with them.

if their friends notice the change, they don't say anything, and sirius is glad for that, because remus' hand sometimes rests on his leg, and sirius' door does a pretty loud sound when it's locked.

remus and sirius kiss each other whenever they can, rough and softly, with their hands tracing the other's body. their skin was craving that exact feeling for such a long time, now they cannot stop, asking one to separate from the other would be like trying to separate tissue from bone. it is in those casual moments when they are the same thing: two boys, with complex minds and complex hearts that secretly longed for their forbidden equal to embrace them.

I've been thinking about how much I adore Tonks and Remus' dynamic but physically cannot ship them because my brain is being weird about their fucking age gap. this is so frustrating. they would have been so lovely for me if Tonks was like at least 27 in 5th book. Ronks (yeah I'm not calling it Remadora, Tonks hates her birth name ffs) would have been my ride-or-die alongside Jily and Wolfstar for sure.

because literally nothing else that Ronks antis consider deal breakers for them matters to me - not the fumbled way they get together in canon, not them getting married so quickly, not Tonks getting pregnant, not the assumed queer-coding of both characters (which I personally see, don't get me wrong. but it's assumed and who the fuck says they can't be queer4queer anyway?). sure, the nuclear family narrative being pushed so quickly and thoroughly onto them is peculiar but who says they didn't want to make the most of their time during a war? I love wartime drama and they would have been my shit if it weren't for... well. Tonks being 22 and Remus 35 when they meet.

I just can't ship big age gaps unless the youngest character is closer to 30 than 20. which is infuriating, because Ronks is objectively more fascinating because of their gap. my fucking loss, don't you think?

anyway, after thinking of ways I can make Tonks older without hurting the story, I began wondering whether her age is narratively important, and yes, turns out it very much is - for Harry.

Tonks being 22 in order of phoenix makes her the closest of Order members to Harry's age (Weasley twins don't count because they're Ron's brothers first, order members second for Harry) and the one Order member Harry can relate to the most in his youth and desire to fight. She almost perfectly parallels marauders and Lily in first war and represents the fun of the fight, the fire of youth, the confidence of a new recruit, the safety of relatability for Harry. She's one of the biggest inspirations for his newfound dream of becoming an auror. Harry needs Tonks among those older, battle-worn, cautious, secretive adults who don't take him seriously and never look him in the eye, because he wants to be what she is even before realising it and only reflects on it after spending time with her.

all in all, Tonks being 22 matters quite a lot for Harry's story.

now, we have no way of knowing whether Joanne came up with Ronks storyline prior to Tonks' introduction, but it shouldn't matter for their relationship, not in Joanne's opinion - Tonks' youth already fulfilled its narrative role in order of phoenix and stopped being an important asset of her character in half-blood prince.

oh, but unfortunately it still matters in the grand scheme of things, Joanne. you don't just introduce a young adult character (I'm 21 myself and gods, 22/23 is barely more mature), chuck their established age out the window and pair them up with a character in their mid-to-late thirties. and of fucking course it makes sense for a 23 year old to be down bad for some scruffy 36 year old man, it's incredibly realistic! this 36 year old man acting upon such crush is a little questionable, but still realistic (and we know Remus is very flawed, so I'm not surprised). but you know what isn't realistic at all?

Molly - a 46 year old woman, married to her high school sweetheart, mother to 7 children, 3 of which are close to Tonks' age - being extremely supportive of actually engaging in that sort of relationship, going as far as reprimanding Remus for not committing to it. I'm sorry, what? Molly might have some flaws as a mother, but she is nothing if not protective of her kids and those in their age range. She genuinely becomes somewhat of a mother figure for Tonks during their time in the Order, and I just cannot for the life of me understand how Molly could encourage her to pursue Remus and vice-versa, instead of consoling Tonks in her tragic crush and making sure Remus doesn't even look at her like that.

Minerva - an even older woman who taught both Remus and Tonks at Hogwarts, witnessed Remus becoming an adult from his graduation in 1978 up until 1981, then saw an 11 year old Tonks start Hogwarts 3 years later in 1984 - chiding Remus for not being "brave" enough to commit to such relationship. first of all, why the fuck is she involved in that narrative at all? it's none of her business??? she's not in any pseudo parenting role for either of them, unlike Molly, so I never understood why she even has a place to voice her opinion about their romance. second of all, even if it was her business, Minerva - a professor who witnessed both Remus and Tonks grow up so many years apart - would realistically feel pretty weird about such relationship.

those aren't problems with the ship itself, but rather the way Joanne implemented their romance in the story. I think it would be more realistic if Ronks was some kind of fucked up forbidden romance from other characters' perspectives. the way everybody is so instantly supportive of them is quite jarring to me.

interestingly, when I read hp for the first time at 11 I was quite adamant in my belief that Tonks was in love with Molly up until that scene in half-blood prince. a very weird belief for a kid, I know. I just only liked girls at the time and was relating to Tonks quite a bit since her introduction, so I guess I unconsciously decided she was a lesbian even without knowing that term yet. I also had a crush on my teacher in 4th grade and she was quite similar to Molly... yeah, this girl was projecting too much. I didn't pick up on Remus' queer-coding until I fell down the rabbit hole of lgbt discourse at 14, but was pretty shocked to read about Tonks falling for a man at 11. she was so like me until she wasn't :) it's pretty funny to think about now.

in conclusion, I'm hella jealous of those of you who don't have weird brains and can enjoy Ronks to their fullest potential. their canon writing has its issues but they're more interesting for it, truly. I'll stay in my no fun corner, headcanoning them as lavender married, queer-platonic, bisexual besties co-parenting Teddy Alastor Tonks.

As a multi-shipper, I have a theory about people who ship Jily or Jegulus exclusively and am curious how accurate it is. The theory goes that exclusive shippers fall into a few camps (or a combination of them). These theories are entirely based on my own observations and not on any statistical data.

Jily-exclusive:

One, they need for Harry to exist and/or prefer straight James and/or Lily. This tends to be predominately straight people or those that prefer canon to fanon from what I’ve seen. Lily can be a very relatable character and I think some of this is a self-insert, but not necessarily everyone views it that way.

Two, they like the tidy world of Wolfstar, Dorlene, and Jily. One mlm, one wlw, one straight ship. This tends to be predominantly queer people and allies. I think it stems from the desire to see queer ships normalised in straight society. These readers/writers prefer a more realistic portrayal of these characters based somewhat in canon.

Jegulus-exclusive:

One, the opposite of the group above. They want every ship to be queer and to live a world where queer love is celebrated and accepted openly. Quite often this group is queer people who are tired of seeing homophobia as a theme in every mlm or wlw fic and who abandon canon entirely. Often, this group enjoys trans Regulus and/or James too.

Two, Drarry shippers who have joined the Marauders fandom. This group is quite varied, but already comfortable with the enemy to lovers trope, Slytherins/Gryffindors, and Potter/Black family dynamic. Jegulus is a variant of Drarry in their minds. This group is a big fan of AUs.

Three, this group want to explore darker themes and find Regulus Black to be the perfect morally-grey character to follow because he does have a redemption arc. These Jegulus shippers enjoy seeing James either drawn to the dark side or saving Regulus from it.

I would love to hear others thoughts on this. None of these groups are bad or “wrong,” it’s just what I’ve observed in the fandom.

Remus stood in the common room tapping his foot as he waited on you and Sirius, a Halloween party was being held by Hufflepuff and they wanted people to come in costume but they knew Remus wasn't the type to dress up, unlike his boyfriend, girlfriend, and friends.

Sirius came down first from the boys' dorms, the white screaming ghost mask stood out from his black jeans and leather jacket. Remus smiled as Sirius lifted the mask and pieces of his hair fell into his face.

"where the hell did you get that?" Remus asked in a breathy laugh. Sirius smiled and shrugged.

"peters trunk" he admitted which caused Remus to shake his head

Remus was about to scold him for digging through their friend's things but the sound of heels clicking made them turn to the stairs of the girls' dorms.

you were wearing heels with straps that laced up your leg with fake butterflies spread on the straps that you had charmed to look more realistic and their wings flapped in random order. your dress was shorter in the front than the back with a cute underbust corset that had wings on the back that you charmed to flutter and sparkle.

you twirled for them, hearing the cute gasp of Sirius when he noticed the wings would flutter and sparkle.

"cute right?" you asked, proud of your hard work.

"beautiful" Remus replied, Sirius walked to you and told how good you look and took your hand and guided you for another spin.

I'm at a sleep over and everyone else is asleep but I can't sleep so here are some of my marauders hot takes

I hate jegulus. I think it's wierd and disgusting. think about it, in both cannon and fannon james and sirius say they are like bothers, now why would you go and date someone you say is your brothers younger brother. also. regulus was a KNOWN deatheater, even before he officaly became one, everyone always knew he would. and james is the last person in the world who would go out with a literal deatheater

surrogate lily for jeglus is wrong wierd and in all comes down to misogyny. lily is one of if not the most important character in the marauders, without lily there would literally be no marauders because there would literally be no harry potter series in the first place. to diminish her character down to someone is is souly providing for two men is a prime example of misogyny within the marauders fandom

I hate the slytherin skittles. since when did we decide that literal deatheaters. LITTERAL TERRORISTS, were all cute and babygirl. why are we glorifying the horrific actions of these people by saying they are "morally grey" like babe terrorism is not grey its the darkest black you can imagine.

since I'm on it, the only reason people decided that the "slytherin skittles" were important was so that they could have more mlm in the fandom because let's face it, mlm is so wildly fetishied within the fandom.

saying you love barty and evan but hating on people like bellatrix and narcisa is misogyny.

saying you love barty and evan and hating on people like peter and Snape is hypocritical.

the only reason Snape doesn't receive the same treatment as barty and evan is because he can't be romanticised.

James potter is a straight man.

James and lily are endgame and sure fine think whatever about who they dated before but they will always be endgame.

sirius black would 100% say things about women that aren't right because it was the 70s and look at where he grew up.

sirius would 100% do the prank cause that is literally one of the few peices of cannon we have and it is totally in character.

all the young dudes was an amazing realistic representation and characterisation of the marauders.

marlene, Mary, dorcas etc are 100% underrated ans deserve more attention but people also need to remember that they have little to none cannon and the fandom originally started from just the marauders so it's much harder to form fannom for them.

the new portrayal of wolfstar is in most cases unrealistic and sometimes even a little bit fucked up in dynamics

sirius is a cis man. the only reason people headcannon him as trans is because of his long hair. he is literally cannonically androgynous, why can't we just let him be androgynous.

I 100% have so many more but its 4 am rn

This may be a question for the podcast, but I wanted your take on this: so one of my major qualms about jegulus (especially in canon) is that I notice that James’s mean streak is too often overlooked in the interest of making him the good/sunshine antithesis to regulus. And I feel like that’s very much a disservice to his character and it feeds into some of the older tropes in the fandom when James was just the good/sunshine best friend as the backdrop to wolfstar. And like even if they do include morally grey moments for him, most of them are just because “he just loves people too much.”

okay this does feel like a bit of a dig at me, but that's also fine.

ive said this before but the thing about "shipping" is that it's not about looking at two characters and thinking "those two people feel like they would definitely realistically fall in love" it's more "what happens to those characters if they fall in love", what aspects of their personalities does it bring out in them, what new situations does it force them into, new choices does it force them to make etc. etc. in general that's kind of what is intriguing about fanfiction, the ability to see the characters you love outside the context of the original plot.

so yeah, i totally agree that i think in jegulus the softer aspects of james's character are emphasized, because i don't think the "bad boy" persona, the parts of him that can be a real piece of shit, make for as interesting a dynamic in the context of "canon" jegulus. versus, say, jily. In jily the tension comes from those aspects of James's character, so you'll notice that in jily fics James is usually much spicier, because that makes sense for that pairing.

for that reason, i don't think it is a disservice to his character that his mean streak is overlooked in jegulus fics, i think it makes sense that that ship would bring out different aspects of his character. i also think "good-boy-heart-of-gold-james-potter" is actually a very new trope (relatively). so i totally get you in that, i do think people occasionally forget that james can absolutely be an asshole, that his character has those dimensions to explore and i am all for that depiction of james, i just don't look for it in jegulus because i don't find it as compelling there

Your writing is absolutely incredible. I found GC on wattpad not even a month ago while looking for Wolfstar x Reader fics (Fully fledged ones) and Immediately started reading and fell in love with it, skip forward a couple weeks and i eventually checked out your tumblr. I have come to the conclusion that i have no words to express how much I absolutely adore your writing and I can't wait to see the future of GC (Patiently waiting for the romance to develop (I'm not really i get giddy every time their feelings are mentions even though theres so much inner turmoil attached atm (Btw thats absolutely incredible aswell like its so realistic its *Chefs kiss* amazing, Brilliant))) I'm ginna be on the edge of my seat all day tomorrow until i get to read it (Sometimes i just despise busy days).

I wanted to have the series on Wattpad because I love the feature where you can comment on quotes (like writing a note on the side of the book), but Wattpad isn't as good at creating a community, and I craved to have one-on-one talks with my readers, which is why, ultimately, Tumblr has become the main home of Gilded Constellations.

Not to say I don't love my Wattpad and AO3 readers, but It's not as easy to connect with them as it is through Tumblr, I feel.

I've digressed, but thank you so much for your kind comments, I know GC is slowburn, but I'm happy to keep you at the edge of your seat for many weeks <3

And I'm truly blessed to have readers who are so vocal about their love for Gilded Constellations. It truly makes my day and prompts me to continue writing more. Especially this past few weeks in which I fell behind due to a mistake in which I completely forgot about a full moon and had to go back and rewrite. A chapter turned into three, and then getting back to the chapter I was working on was tricky af.

it's been a while since i interacted with the marauders fandom, (like a month or two) but one recurring theme that i saw was the drastic recon of a lot of the slytherins in that era.

i remember when your main cast in your average marauders fic was mostly gryffindors, and then a lot of the antagonists were slytherins. barty and evan were almost always villains (bullies, toxic exes, etc) and regulus was an angst device for sirius. nowadays, the main cast is split into two main friend groups, gryffindors and slytherins. most gryffindors have a slytherin they're paired with (lily and dorcas [which btw i remember when dorcas was a gryffindor], james and regulus, etc etc). the slytherins all have family issues where their parents are blood purists and they don't agree with them and it's a whole thing blah blah blah

i like that there is more diversity in where the characters come from, but there is so much nuance that is stripped of these characters to make them all get along. regulus is the number one victim of this.

i've noticed there is a desire to make the characters people like morally good. they preach about grey characters, but when it comes down to it there is always a justification for the "bad" things they do. sometimes people do bad things because they believe bad things. regulus is a bad guy. he is a death eater, he gets the dark mark and everything. a lot of people write that regulus secretly agreed with sirius the whole time, but it makes it so much more interesting if sirius and regulus's morals actually clash instead of regulus just agreeing with his parents. i personally love when sirius and regulus are close in their childhood and then it changes as they both mature and find themselves.

i think if we look at the characters realistically, regulus barty and evan would never truly get along with people like james and sirius. they're both righteous people (ESPECIALLY james) who would not tolerate blood purism. and that's interesting to explore and to write! sirius watching his brother become a complete stranger who resents him because their morals conflict is so interesting!! you don't have to take away murky morals from a character so they can make out with your fav... which leads me to my next thing.

the jegulus boom. i remember when jegulus was a crack ship and now i think it's literally up there in popularity with wolfstar. i used to ship it as a joke, and in the beginning it was cute but honestly i don't see this ever being an actually healthy relationship. again, james has very strong morals and he would not tolerate regulus being a death eater. he would also ALWAYS choose sirius and he wouldn't stay in a relationship with someone who would cause sirius so much pain. there are a select few circumstances where i see them in a select few dynamics??? but i just don't see it happening.

it's sad because i feel like lily has been tossed aside for fandom's new bl ship. like i love wlw ships with all my heart but sometimes it seems like they come out of people wanting to do something with the canon female love interest. jily is such a beautiful and adorable ship, and the chemistry is honestly so much better than jegulus if i'm being honest. lily is also such an interesting character and you can still get your enemies to lovers fix out of jily. you don't need to compromise the morals of both james and regulus for your yaoi.

it always struck me as weird that these canon death eaters are suddenly heroes now, as in they never believed this shit at all and they're actually victims of their families and society and stuff. don't get me wrong, they definitely are, but it would be better if it wasn't just "i always thought this is wrong and i'm the rebel in my family!" people in these systems actually do get brainwashed and manipulated, and they do believe these things wholeheartedly.

i understand the whole thing with marauders is that there is no canon and you can do whatever you want, but sometimes the characters are just so flat. regulus is interesting to me because he was a bad person but he ultimately chose to sacrifice himself for something good. there's also the issue with changing the characters to the point where they're completely unrecognizable from canon. jkr is a shit writer, but that doesn't change the fact that james has been repeatedly described in canon as a righteous man with incredibly strong beliefs. he may have been a little shit, but never to the point where he would date a death eater. he literally pantsed one upside down and washed their mouth out with soap.

i'm also not saying the old fics were better. there used to be a LOTTT of inconsistency with the characterization of a lot of side characters like dorcas and mary and marlene. i love that the new fandom has given these characters a chance to shine. (well, the male ones at least...) i'm also also not saying that the slytherins should be just bad guys again. i feel like we've flopped from making them total assholes to angels that rebel a little bit.

i could honestly talk about the issues within the marauders fandom for literal hours, but the slytherins are something that has bothered me for a while now. don't be scared to make your skrunklies evil, they don't even have to be evil the whole time you can give them a killer redemption arc 👍
