these are all of my wips and ideas, but just I'm actively working on the first 3 or 4 lol

1. just eddie, his ex-wife, his best friend, and their son they all raise together (eventually)

2. buck makes a bunch of mistakes and single-handedly creates the messiest situation he doesn't know how to get out of (just tell her, dude)

3. buck has a crush, eddie has a crush, neither does anything about it, and maddie has to watch them dance around it

4. drunk buck sees the most gorgeous man he's ever seen, and never wants to leave his side (also why is he shirtless at a fire station in the middle of the night?)

5. eddie's definitely not dying (spoiler alert: yes he is)

7. they're so disgustingly in love it's a miracle no one knows they're dating

8. buck has an idea for a family vacation

9. someone needs a temporary place to live, and someone has a very comfy couch (or an empty half of the bed, who knows)

the world ends in the city. 

it ends hard. fast. ends with the kind of swift vengeance that Father Burkley always warned about when the real sermon was over and he was looking to speak about something grim. the fire is so bright, it can be seen from the holler, and the smoke spills up into the sky like a pillar of pure black hate. 

there’s a girl with a dog. there’s a boy with a camera. there are people, older, in the woods and the mountain who are trying to survive. 

someone comes up to the holler and brings the end of the world with them, and then it’s not just the city that’s gone, but the little town with dirt roads and old houses and bricked up walls.

and there’s still a girl with a dog. there’s still a boy with a camera. there are still people, older, in the woods and the mountain who are just trying to survive.

not everyone is going to make it, but they’re sure all going to try. and if they stick together, they might make it a little bit further than any of the others.

Corruption and cruelty pulse through the veins of an opulent metropolis, where every side is the wrong side and progress is fuelled by exploitation. Imprisoned for a crime or five that she definitely committed, Aria made it through her sentence remembering more than she was supposed to but not enough to make sense. An illicit trade syndicate gives her a fresh start and the acceptance she won’t admit she craves, but her blood family’s betrayal is seared into her mind and revenge is only ever an opportunity away.

📝 BASICS See tags #name from nowhere and #project aria. Project Aria was the working title. The book is set in the same world as Bridge From Ashes. Yes, Rafe and Gillen are involved, as are some of the other characters.

Wow, thank you for the ask! We have added you to our taglists! :D And we are soooo happy to ramble about Songs of Decay and Bards, Courts, and Changelings. This is Inkwell. I am gonna cover Songs of Decay, and Crooked Writer will cover BC&C in a part two post.

Be warned. This is a very long post. I had waay too much fun writing it, hahaha. Bards, Courts, and Changelings will be a much shorter post, as it is in an earlier stage of development.

Part One: Songs of Decay

A HISTORY OF THE PROJECT

This is definitely a 2020 project, hahaha. We wrote draft 1 in script format because it was an easy way to write intermittently. We pulled out board games like Arkham Horror (2nd Edition) and Betrayal at House on the Hill to help us add the eldritch elements and throw in some chaos. We tracked the insanity level of different characters through some of our scenes. Then, when we were done, we were so happy with the story that we wanted to DO something with it rather than it just being a hobby project… and we were like, "What if we actually turned it into an audio drama?"

Crooked Writer does voice acting, but neither of us had ANY experience with writing audio dramas. It was our lazy way of not converting to prose, but also trying something new!

We created draft 2 by having friends come read what we'd gotten done out loud. We would edit and write for two weeks, then gather online, divvy out parts for the night, and read through it. It gave us a lot of motivation to get through the draft! I personally am not the kind of person to sit in on someone's early writing project and read it out loud for an extended period of time on a consistent basis, and it still blows my mind that our friends wanted to do that with us. It was so much fun.

Now, a great deal of research and worldbuilding later, we have four seasons planned and are midway through writing draft 3 of season 1. :D

WORLDBUILDING

The story isn't straight cosmic horror, it's more flavored by the eldritch, and much more inspired by the board game Arkham Horror than Lovecraft. We have our own pantheon of Horrors who have different thematic elements and warp and corrupt in different ways. Technology is roughly equivalent to the 1910s, and eldritch Horrors have been threatening to end the world as we know it for centuries. We have four countries who approach the long-standing eldritch problem VERY differently:

Our setting country, Malgrave, has a "kill it with fire" approach. They have a specially trained corps of Stewards and an Eldritch Anomalies Department (the EAD) to handle things using mostly weaponry. Malgrave views eldritch corruption as an individual's choice to bring Horrors and Fiends (Horrors = world-ends-upon-arrival monsters, Fiends = smaller monsters) into the world and destroy/remake it, so laws tend to treat cults and such in a similar way to how you'd treat the mafia. The temptations are overpowering to many. You can't trust anyone completely.

Side note, because I love the Stewards: The Stewards have really fun political power dynamics, as they are supposed to keep the king's family from turning on him/protect the family, but also can't really contradict a royal, sooo it gets messy sometimes. They technically have the power to report or stop a royal that's corrupted, but just try doing that in practice and see how it goes. Stewards tend to be more subtle. They also die, a lot. The MC's father, Sam, is one of the few Stewards in living memory to retire from active duty. Pays well, though!

Eastcairn, Malgrave's other neighbor, uses augury - magical engineering - to create wards and automatons that are powered by protective patterns. These patterns slowly corrupt over time and must be maintained regularly, or they will amplify corruption rather than negate it. Eastcairn views corruption as a contagious miasma in the air and isolates eldritch outbreaks in sanatoria and asylums. There are many strains of corruptive virus, and most if not all are incurable by current science.

Logoria is Malgrave's neighbor to the left and uses patterns just like Eastcairn, but rather than using physical augury patterns they use mathematical patterns in music and dance to ward off corruption. They have trained singers and musicians and dancers, and choirs are common.

Not a ton of development on the fourth country, because it's farther away (only worldbuild the top of the iceberg, right?) but it has a protective martial art, a caste system based around the concept that corruption runs in family lines, and people there know what different kinds of corruptive influences/objects/presences smell like.

These varying perceptions pool together in our story, as Sam is from Eastcairn but worked in the Stewards in Malgrave and has a medley of views about the nature of eldritch corruption that often conflict with prevalent theories. Augury isn't well thought of in Malgrave, but both he and Tom practice it. The conflict of "eldritch corruption: illness or choice?" is central to the first two seasons of Songs of Decay (particularly the second).

CHARACTERS AND STORY (Season 1)

Tom moves into the very rural Malbury county because living too close to his far wealthier ex-wife will end with him losing custody of their daughter, Sara. His dad lives in Malbury county and is supposed to be living far away from all eldritch influence. However, Tom is appalled to see how rife the county is with cultists, corruption, and eldritch Fiends - such as the Moose that he and Sara run afoul of on the first day of school. Tom also has a past record that requires him to report to the EAD and means that the EAD could refuse to grant him an augury license, which is literally Tom's livelihood right now, SO Tom offers to help with local problems. In doing so, he trips into the plot of a local cult that centers on the estate of one Lady Esther Lambert, a widow with a grudge against the EAD. Esther married into one of the local noble families and is used to fighting for herself because no one else will. She throws an annual party at her house at the end of summer, but this time things go very poorly very quickly. Tom and Esther have to band together with other guests to stay alive and prevent the summoning of a greater Horror, but they don't know who to trust when you can't even rule yourself out as an enemy.

So, throughout Season 1 you've got Tom trying to be a good single parent, learning how to prep and cook three consistent meals a day while also getting drawn into fighting eldritch monsters and cultists. You have Sara, his daughter, who is trying to adjust to a lower class lifestyle, meeting a grandparent for the first time, and stressing about her dad putting himself in danger. You have Sam, who convinced his son to move to Belleview because he was worried about him, but also has so much corruption from his time in the Stewards that he is one poor decision away from snapping entirely. You have Chief Compton, a former city policeman and current head of the local EAD bullied into the role after the last chief died trying to contain an eldritch summoning. And you have Lady Esther, whose late husband's family literally built her house around the idea of summoning eldritch Horrors, and whose perception of the local EAD is so poor that she would rather fight off monsters with a shovel than call them in to help.

We are having a great time writing this story. :D The hope is to ultimately put it on YouTube, but we want to get the first two seasons ready before we get to that, as they contain the first major arc.

Mage Princess - WIP Intro Genre: Fantasy Audience: Young Adult Status: Planning, will be writing for Camp NaNoWriMo (April 2023)

Summary:

In the kingdom of Anetalia, the old king has grown suspicious of those who can do magic. Fearing that his country's mages will someday overthrow him, he outlaws the use of magic, forcing those who can use it into exile or hiding.

Then the queen gives birth to a girl who not only can use magic, but may be the most powerful mage born in centuries.

Princess Tara is raised in seclusion, ordered to suppress her magic and be the model of a proper lady. But at her coming of age ceremony, her magic is revealed to the world, forcing her to flee before she can be imprisoned for her transgression. Along the way, she meets a magicless girl named Lia, who invites her along on her adventures through the countryside. Having nowhere else to go, Tara accepts.

What adventures will await them? Only time will tell.

Main Characters:

Princess Tara: Main character of the story and the crown princess of Anetalia. Is a naturally powerful mage but has been forced to suppress her magic her whole life. Is quiet and has a lot to learn, but is a kind soul and a good leader.

Lia: A magicless girl from Anetalia. She lost her parents in the mage purge and is now wandering the country looking for adventure. Very tough and good at survival and fighting, not so good at people.

anyways! soo.. my wips are... complicated..

But here are some smol and BAD summaries..

WIP ONE: (FHCC)

this is the one I'm currently writing. And also posting about here and there. Its a story about an evil manipulative professor who runs a cult in the name of Caesar and wants to gaslight ppl into killing innocents in the name of Caesar. And he gets a job in a prestigious uni where he teaches the history department. The fourth year students consisting of all foreigners, he finds the perfect opportunity to corrupt them. a lot of murders happen in the campus and then they stop. But on the day of Graduation, when the whole campus was celebrating, the professor is also mysteriously found dead. Typical dark academia murder thriller hehe.

WIP TWO: (SAA:1987)

Its about five friends who live in the same tiny neighborhood. One girl and four boys. One of the boys Kunal is in love with the girl Chitra. And she loves him back. While their little sweet love continues to bloom, the other three boys, Shreyas, Aniruddh and Ronit are stuck in a painful and restricting poly relation. And one unfortunate day, Shreyas' very homophobic family hears the trio doing... stuff... And immediately lock Shreyas up in his room. Now keep in mind, he's a VERY sensitive boy who gets scared and nervous easily. This might seem like nothing to others, but this was a big deal to poor Shreyas, who committed suicide after a few days of being locked and unable to see his two lovers. The story ends in a tragically happy way. Where Kunal and Chitra are married, Ronit and Aniruddh are still dating but they both still mourn Shreyas. But all four of them have learnt to let go of him. Yet, he continues to be a missing piece. Typical tragic love story but make it gay and poly :D

WIP THREE: (TBM)

Back to murders! But now we kill criminals instead of innocents. Lord Byron Beckwith, a big British official built an institute in 18th cen Britain and the then colonial India. Two elite institutes for students around the globe. But as decades went by, the two campuses got corrupted. And became hotspots for drug dealings, sex slavery and human trafficking. And the victims were the poor students who were threatened to keep their mouths shut. A bunch of them also killed themselves for this reason. But cuz of the reputation the campuses held, the governments of both countries covered these sinister things with sorry excuses. And that's when a secret society gets revived by six Indian and five British students of Beckwith Institutes. And both the Deans aka the ones who allowed these crimes to take place, of Indian and British Beckwith are found dead. Another typical dark academia murder thriller.

WIP FOUR: (TPAHB)

The prince of one of the last remaining royal families of Spain was turning 20. And to gift his son, King invited a well known bard and artist to their palace. The bard was asked to paint a portrait of the prince who was gone for a few days. During these days, the king got so impressed by the bard, he asked him to permanently stay in the palace and entertain his peers. When prince arrived and met the new bard, he found him absolutely repulsive. And decided to avoid the man. But on the other hand, the bard is blown away by the beauty possessed by the prince. And the bard secretly makes prince his own muse. Composing songs for him, painting him or reciting poems in his name. No one knew about it. Until prince, who was weirdly fascinated the bard (he denied it) decided to sneak in his room. And found paintings of him and poems comprising of his name hanging from walls. The prince and the bard form an even stranger relationship where one hates the other but is also fascinated by him and the other one is surely in love but will never confess. This an enemies to lovers stuff with a lot of comedy lmao. Also gay <3

WIP FIVE (TGPW) [probably a duology]

The kingdom of Devhagar and Theoisia are rivals and have centuries long history of war, bloodshed and destruction. They both are constantly trying to win over the Northern and Southern regions which are inhabited by strong mythical beings, clever elves, notorious pirate clans and magicians, and most importantly loads of treasures. The never ending hatred of these two kingdoms was prophesied to stop. It was said that five heroes will rise, who will be from both Devhagar and Theoisia and they will team up together to defeat the two evil kings of the two kingdoms and end the reign of tyranny, black magic, hatred and violence. The Magician, a mysterious traveller with no name, said to be immortal finds two small girls while he was travelling thru Theoisia. Thr girls are named Diana and Minerva and immediately feels an aura around them. He decides to take them with him and protect them but mysterious forces constantly attack them, and The Magician realizes he can't fight all of them alone. He calls Kenneth, the captain of one of the strongest pirate ships. Kenneth and his crew take Diana and Minerva with them to a journey that is to find three boys in the kingdom of Devhagar. And they do find the boys after defeating multiple monsters. Shiva, Vishnu and Indra are the three boys described by The Magician. Now the five children are brought back to the magician. Who enlightens them. They have a task to do, they were born to end evil.

wip intro: Chronicles of Valloroth Book One - Renegade Prince

⚔ One Sentence Summary: A runaway prince seeks freedom in a new world and must find a way to convince a rag-tag group to defeat an ancient dragon, all whilst he is being hunted by a band of mercenaries and an infamous assassin.

Summary

Prince Lucian Everent, sole heir to House Everent, has run away. He has not just fled the family estate in the infernii city of Naazgarash, he has abandoned his home plane of Infernus altogether and escaped to the world of Valloroth. Hired to recover him is the flamboyant mercenary, Prince Sorrow and his band of misfits and miscreants, Vetusak K'zinla.

Also sent after him is notorious assassin the Wraith — recruited by House Fenthari to further their plans of family advancement in Naazgarash’s heirarchy by way of Lucian’s death.

Lucian has no idea he’s being hunted. He’s far too busy trying to emulate the heroes he's read about, with help from a dubious collection of new friends: Aliyne, a recovering thief on the run from her past; Leshanna, an anxious wizard with spellcasting issues; Zander, a charmingly insensitive bard (and Aliyne’s ex-boyfriend); and Quest, an optimistically cheerful infernii in search of Destiny with a capital D.

Their adventures bring them in contact with a greater threat than any of them are quite prepared to deal with, as an ancient dragon awakens beneath the mountains of Cidra's Teeth.

With Lucian keeping secrets, and a collection of monsters, mercenaries and murderers on their trail, can the runaway Prince and his companions stop the dragon before it becomes too powerful to kill? Or will their differences prove too great, and leave the world at the mercy of a very old, very angry, very hungry beast?
