The cult side of F1.

Silly season is one thing. Spreading misinformation is another.

When I started writing about F1, I thought to do a segment where I would recap all the news from the past week. It was called F1 Flash and it lasted a month. Why? I had run out of interesting things to write about. I think I wrote about Toto Wolff’s updates on Hamilton’s Mercedes renewal about three times with the barely there news updates about it.

Funny that, now.

However, the truth of the matter was, there wasn’t that much news for a weekly update. Or, should I say, any news was already old news by the time the race had come around.

Never mind how big the story was; the race always overshadowed it and F1’s PR team always did such a good job of directing your attention where they wanted it. They know how to tread the fine line of controversy generating buzz and causing genuine hurt to an image. It’s a line the likes of the Kardashians perfected their walk through - and that Kanye missteps through.

And it’s something that F1, more than any other sport, dances around.

And it’s because F1, more than any other sport, is a cult.

Formula 1 started off as a rich man’s only sport that the likes of Liberty media helped popularise - but the fact remains the same. You only need to look at the Monaco race to understand just the level of lavish wealth that is the culture of Formula 1 racing. Hence, it’s unsurprising that it’s no easy industry to crack into and every single person in the paddock will tell you that cash is king. F1 has done well to disguise itself over the past few years and seem more accessible, more mainstream. Yet even though it increases in popularity, there is still the fact that it’s a cult, a rich man’s club. For example, just last year a woman reported paying 800 euros for a ticket for Monaco practice - only to arrive and realise her ‘seat’ was a patch of grass.

So how does this relate to the news? Well, the news for the masses and as it’s clear that this sport is not for the masses, the news doesn’t really matter. The story doesn’t matter. All the story is for is to keep generating the buzz which will ensure the masses still pay attention and pay the 800 euro for a patch of grass so they feel included in something they never will.

Case in point: the Christian Horner scandal generating all these rumours of Red Bull’s star driver leaving, Helmut Marko and the other Verstappen whinging, and Bernie Ecclestone got in to add his comments. Instead of taking the matter seriously and protecting the identity of a woman who was an alleged victim of abuse, the story is focusing on whether Max Verstappen will take Lewis Hamilton’s seat.

This may sound quite scratching and hyper-critical for the hypocrite who has their whole life revolving around the sport, who is literally dedicating time writing about the news of F1… but that’s the point. If I’m on the receiving end of your story, please don’t feed me bullshit. Don’t lie. Silly season is one thing and then there’s thinking we’re stupid enough to fall for it.

And oftentimes we are. Because they can. Because, really, it’s all a bit cultish.

i think the last few years have really destroyed any understanding of the work politics actually is. it's not as simple as having a particular position on an issue and being in office. so many people think biden and the democrats can just codify roe, or cancel student debt, or revamp our healthcare system, but they choose not to and instead sit on their hands. and i think bernie plays into that completely. politics is work, and it takes time. it's not as simple as "congress should do x" and "biden should do y" the way he tweets that it is. and you'd think he'd know that, being a congressman for this many years, but he doesn't seem to care. and the way he's convinced young people that it is as easy as tweeting about it and the democrats are just choosing to do nothing has done so much damage. our system has never worked like that. you can hate our system (believe me, i do), but you can't change the fact that it is what we have right now. that's what i think a lot of people just choose to misunderstand/ignore.

Yes, this exactly. The social media-ization/virtual gamification of society has done tremendous damage in a lot of places, but perhaps especially in politics. Whether it's Trump tweeting/Truth Socialing an endless stream of inflammatory fascist garbage, or the Online Leftists thinking that endless tweets attacking the Democrats counts as an actual policy platform/constructive political engagement, it has drastically reduced and degraded American civil society's understanding of basic democratic functions, at a time when they're desperately needed. Now, so I don't sound TOTALLY like an old curmudgeon ranting on a porch (although it's probably too late for that, lbr), this isn't altogether the fault of social media. It's just a tool that society chooses to use in a way that is convenient for it, and offers a way to easily magnify and accelerate trends that already exist in real life. However, the idea that you can just post a Tweet and be done with it is absolutely one of the worst misconceptions about how the American political system works, and yes, Bernie is very guilty of the idea that you can just use the right hashtags and that will something something cause everything to magically fix itself, or would if the Democrats cared enough to try. Etc.

It's the same thing as when he spends his time in an online echo chamber that is predisposed to agree with him anyway (hence all his constant Guardian op-eds on obvious subjects, as I was talking about in the last post), is not going to challenge him, and allows him to look like he's talking about it/drawing attention in a productive way. Because his fans all want to look like the Best Bernie Supporter, they also take his rhetoric, aggrandize it as much as possible, and redistribute it in a way to make sure that everyone knows THEY ARE COMMITTED TO THIS, THEY ARE POSTING ANGRILY ABOUT IT ON TWITTER! WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM THEM?!?!

Obviously, this is a symptom of the total collapse of ordinary politics and civil society that has taken place in America throughout the Trump years, and which we are likely to take decades, if ever, to fully recover from. It's not Bernie's fault alone, or entirely the fault of his fans, even the loudest and most obnoxious ones. They're just participating in what seems like the only way to do things, especially since Trump literally did make policy by posting a deranged tweet and expecting his administration to implement it. But for the last time: a left-wing version of Trump is not a good thing, and we don't need to make the same mistakes just because they're easy, comfortable, involve no substantial challenge of our pre-existing views or venturing outside our comfort zone, and don't, in the end, actually change anything or help anyone. So. Yes.

But unfortunately that does mean we get to see less of his glorious dobonohonkeros. Knocking off some points for that. (But before we move on I just want to take this second to admire how radiant he looks in this frame. Beautiful man).

I genuinely want to know what was running through the costume designers’ heads when they allowed this to happen. Yes it’s a Shakespeare production, but that doesn’t mean you need to create this affront to aesthetics. Don’t get me wrong, the costume itself isn’t actually that bad! I mean, the cloak and doublet have some serious potential. I’m actually into this look. What I’m talking about is the HAIR. Speaks for itself. Absolutely fucking not.

Is it aesthetically pleasing? No. Is it attractive? Absolutely not. Is he holding an epeé? Yes he is and that’s all that matters. I physically couldn’t rate it below a 3 if I tried. The outfit is an atrocity but he’s holding a sword which begs the question what would it be like to fence him. I am dying to know.

A Non-Locavore's Guide to Proper Apple Cider

Apple cider is a bizarre thing, in that it is only legal to buy it from the people who grew the apples and pressed them themselves.

You may say "Jisk, I see apple cider in the supermarket right here!", and I am here to tell you that the supermarket is full of profane lies.

I am not talking about hard cider (alcoholic), which does not taste like apples and thus is sorta lies, but a perfectly respectable beverage for those who like their alcohol beer-like but non-beer, which I do not. And that's all I'm going to say about hard cider.

No, I'm talking about this.

This substance is made by the archdevil Geryon, lord of deceits and heresies, in his orchard of snakes and lies, in order to convince people that apple cider is just pretentious apple juice.

And it works, because supermarket apple cider is just pretentious apple juice. It is cider that has taken behind the woodshed and shot, and its corpse carried around in the style of Weekend At Bernie's, paraded as the real thing. It is not the real thing.

This is the real thing:

This is Smit Farms cider, made from apples grown in Smit Farms orchards and pressed in mechanical presses owned by Smit Farms, hosted on the premises owned by Smit Farms and probably on the orchard grounds itself, then bottled by Smit Farms, also on the premises of Smit Farms. This cider is then sold either at their shop next to the Smit Farms orchard (fairly inaccessible) or at a Smit Farms booth in a range of farmstands within driving distance (in this case, mostly or totally in California), one of which is where I buy it. This is the good stuff.

The fact that it is from Smit Farms specifically is irrelevant, but other than replacing the name 'Smit Farms' with something else like 'Derby Orchards' or 'Oxford University Gardens', the good stuff all fits that precise description. To do otherwise is illegal. (At least in the US of A. It seems to be rare in other countries too, and I don't know for sure.)

The core problem is pasteurization. Pasteurization turns cider into apple juice. If you're careful about it and do the lowest temperature allowed for a brief burst of heat (flash pasteurization), you'll keep the ghost of the flavor of proper cider. But only a ghost of it.

And you are legally required to pasteurize cider before sale, unless you are a farm doing farm things to your farm products on your farm premises, which gets you an exemption from a great many United States laws, this being one of them. And so, if you wish to drink good cider, you must be a locavore for the day you do the shopping.

And it's so fucking worth it. I promise you. You know how they say that compared to real beer, Budweiser is 'fucking close to water'? Apple juice is the Bud Lite of cider. Real cider has the same relationship to it that Guinness has to Bud. Everyone should try it.

Now, I will admit it has drawbacks.

The first one is that it's usually unfiltered, and filtering it does actually make it worse. So you need to shake the bottle around a bit before pouring. It's much less intrusive than citrus pulp, though.

The second is that if you leave it in the fridge for a month it will have gone very slightly alcoholic. (I don't know what ABV.) This does have a solution - cider freezes well. Leave it in the freezer for a year if need be, then melt it over a day on the counter and stick it back in the fridge.

QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE FOR THE CIDER SNOB

"Jisk, how can I tell if the cider is the good stuff?"

Unfortunately, you will usually have to ask, and the answer will often be 'it isn't' even if you're at an orchard. Check if the label says 'pasteurized' in any form - if so it is the knockoff type. If you don't see that, the question you want to ask is "Do you press and bottle it yourself?"; if the answer is yes, they will almost certainly know, and only if the answer is yes is it the good stuff. You can also ask "Is it pasteurized?", and this may appear on the label, but there are weaselly ways to say it's not when it is and well-intentioned people can be honestly wrong about this being good enough.

"Should I get the good stuff for cooking with?"

It is almost certainly not worth it. You'll mostly denature it in cooking and that will remove most of the flavor benefits. For this I would go with supermarket cider or somewhat boiled-down boring apple juice. Some recipes may benefit but that's beyond my cooking skill to predict.

"Should I get the good stuff for mulling?"

Personally I cannot tell the difference once it is mulled. If the effort and money to get the good stuff are cheap for you, go ahead, it's probably slightly better, but it will not be a groundshaking improvement. Same goes for anything you're spicing heavily even without heat.

"Okay, I see where you're going, here. Is it a waste to heat up the good stuff?"

Absolutely not. Go for it! A simple mug of cider, heated up in the microwave, is a wonderful thing in a way apple juice is not.

"How about cocktails?"

I have limited experience here but I think it is usually a noticeable, significant improvement, but not always. My family favors the Suicider, which has some nutmeg, a large spike of dark rum, and the heart of a bad pun. On the other hand, something like a mule where you are mixing several strong flavors may overwhelm the difference. Use your best judgment, and if you do a taste test please tag me or send me an ask, because I'm curious.

"Why is the good stuff so rare, if it's so much better?"

The process is time-consuming and effortful, it's either hard to scale on an orchard's budget or hard to scale without incurring the wrath of the regulators, and the margins aren't great. I pay $20 for a gallon and a half and I'd probably pay twice that, but I am a snob; most people aren't and wouldn't.

In my hometown, there were six pick-your-own apple orchards, all of which sold cider in their attached store. Of these, only one, the aforementioned Derby Farms, sold the good stuff - this was a local secret, not available to the tourists who came out from Boston. The others had mechanical presses available, but pressing cider is slow, exhausting work and the margins aren't great, so they paid someone else to press it and bottle it, which meant that the pasteurization requirement came in. Even Derby's has ceased to make the good stuff, as they are getting old and didn't have the manpower in the proper season anymore. This is a tragedy but kind of inevitable.

"Why are you writing this?"

Because I think a lot of people would be snobs if they experienced the difference, and the only way to fix aforesaid tragedy is to make the margins better by increasing demand.

**ELEMENTAL SPOILERS AHEAD**

Okay so, I was reminded of this (thanks random clips on Youtube), and since I never made a post sharing my thoughts on ‘Elemental’ despite seeing it a week ago, I wanna give my thoughts on this particular moment now and see if anyone agrees/disagrees with me, cause I’m curious.

Alright, in the typical 2nd act Break-up Scene, I understand that Wade was looking out for Ember's happiness, but he basically called her a coward and for me, that crossed the line. It may have been done with good intentions, but it was also ignorant and arrogant. 

The movie makes it very clear that it's not a matter of Ember simply following her father's wishes like it is in something like ‘Turning Red’ - it's Ember wanting to make sure her dad can retire so he doesn't WORK HIMSELF TO DEATH. I can't blame her for being hesitant about revealing the truth to him. Yes, that may count as her being ‘afraid’ as Wade says, but it’s a damn reasonable fear to have! Also, I’d like to point out that if she had taken over the shop, she still could have made her glasswork art on the side, so it's not like she would be completely giving up on her dream. 

I get that yes, the truth ultimately was the right decision in this case - Bernie assumed Ember wanted the shop since that's what she always said/implied since she was a kid, and once he learned that she didn't want it, people in the community were able to take over the shop for Bernie so he could retire. 

Essentially, everything worked out... but it was very much an idealized best case scenario/Hollywood happy ending, so Ember was still valid in thinking that her rejecting the shop and being selfish would inadvertently lead to her father's death/them eventually losing the shop again. I could also see Ember being reluctant about leaving in general since, again, outside of the shitty customers she seemed to enjoy being at the center of the community and being an assistant manager/delivery girl. It was just being in charge of EVERYTHING and all the stress that came from it that made it a nightmare.

But in THAT regard it’s like - geez, Wade, if you're that concerned about Ember getting burnt out (ha) and being miserable, maybe YOU should offer to help run the shop with her so she doesn't get overwhelmed by awful customers (which seemed to be her main issue, given that she enjoyed the shop itself). At the very least, he should have tried to help her find some sort of compromise instead of only pushing her towards the 'tell the truth and follow your dreams' path - a path that, as Ember said, not everyone is privileged or lucky enough to follow, while Wade seems to think it’s the only valid path. 

I feel like Wade being willing to not just help her find happiness but also understand her duty and loyalty to her family would have been the TRUE sign that he was a good match for her. Instead it just feels like an ignorant person seeing the dynamics in a family from a different culture and calling that family 'abusive' because they don't understand said culture differences.

Given that I enjoyed the cultural and familial aspects of ‘Elemental’ much more than the romance plot, I feel like it could have been nice to have Wade - instead of declaring his love and following the rom-com tropes to a tee - find a way to be an actual supportive ally and have THAT be the true foundation of their love instead of it JUST being their ‘chemistry’ with each other.

Instead of him deciding to take a one-way ticket out of the city and being all sad, have him discover the cracks in Ember’s glass at the dam and have him still be there later on trying to still fix it for her when she comes across it herself. Show Wade actively caring about the fate of not just Ember but also all of Fire Town, fighting for their safety and wanting them all to be okay even after Ember rejects him. I feel like seeing that, plus him helping her save the blue flame, would truly allow Ember to return Wade’s feelings, as it would help her see that even if he doesn’t fully understand it, he still sees and accepts that Ember’s people and community are important to her, so he wants to help support and protect them too regardless of whether or not it earns him a date/relationship afterwards.

There was a lot of other things that could have been added in to further support this new climax - like, instead of Wade just introducing Ember to the wonders of Element City, Ember could be sharing Fire Land culture with him as well. I also feel like Wade needed to be more of a character in his own right and less of an overly-emotional manic pixie dream boy, as otherwise he just comes off as Jack from ‘Titanic’, complete with heroic sacrifice for his love interest. Except here it’s less ‘quirky guy wanting to save a rich girl from her abusive fam’ and more ‘quirky guy wants to date a girl he fell head-over-heels with and is putting her happiness above all else... buuut that unfortunately also includes putting it above the people his love interest cares about the most’, so it’s less charming. 

The fact that we barely get to learn anything about Wade’s backstory with his dead dad combined with his only real goal in the film being ‘help Ember/date Ember/save Ember, etc.’, it just makes him feel sorta shallow and a bit of an after-thought compared to Ember and the rest of the Lumen family. At best, he’s an overly emotional romantic who just cares a lot (which can be a positive or negative thing depending on the circumstances) and at worst he’s an ignorant optimist whose empathy only somewhat works on an individual level (like with Ember, or with that one airball athlete he got the arena to cheer for). Either way, I feel like Wade is the main reason why I couldn’t fully get behind the romance in the end, no matter how sweet or cute some of the earlier moments of it might have been.

saw max talk about this in a clip from his twitch stream and was wondering if you knew anything about this. is there only one drivers championship trophy and it gets like what, passed around? he said he had the real one and a replica that already had both his championships on it so is it also only one replica per driver with their championships written on them?

i knew they got replicas for their podiums/wins (and that sometimes they get to keep the original) but didn’t think this also applied to the championship trophy as well. does that essentially mean that lewis, fernando etc all have a trophy as well but it isn’t the real one that’s moving around? how does it even have the room to keep adding all these names to them?

this is a good question because like everything in motorsport: it's complicated.

so: there is one championship trophy, which has every champion since Giuseppe Farina's name carved on it. but it wasn't made in 1950, it was made in 1995 by a company called Fox Silver.

like a lot of sporting trophies, you only have it while you've won it, so there are also a bunch of replicas. since 1995 those have looked like this, the official, etched-year-on-year trophy (each ring of the spiral has a decade of champions on) there was a lot going on in the FIA in the early-to-mid 90s and this new trophy came during some very major governance wranglings between what was then the sporting arm of the FIA (FISA) and FOCA (the Formula One Constructors' Association) that ultimately ended in FISA being reabsorbed into the FIA and FOCA getting Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley into vice presidency and presidency of the FIA to represent their interests.

(that's oversimplifying but otherwise we'll be here all day)

a new era of grand stability and governance for the sport naturally merited a new, ugly trophy:

but before 1995 that's not what the trophy looked like at all. it's amazingly hard to find photos of the actual trophy because F1 has always had this slightly bizarre (especially for a sport where there are trophies every week) half-arsed approach to awarding the actual championship silver.

but here's a photo of Nina Rindt, Jochen Rindt's widow, receiving his posthumous world championship trophy in 1970. as you can see, it'd a kind of modest little generic trophy, which despite the tragic circumstances of Rindt's win, isn't unlike what they usually were.

so: yes, all drivers who've won it in the last 28 years have won the same trophy and then they or their teams or both have had replicas made.

there's a sort of - I don't want to call it a rumour because it's stronger than that but an unverified story that the actual trophy currently being handed out is itself a replica and that Michael Schumacher kept the 1995 original. idk if that really matters either way, so long as there's one trophy that gets handed out every year (and it's not necessarily true in any case) but it does vaguely sound like the sort of thing Bernie Ecclestone would do.

edited to add: Nina Rindt was a timekeeper and incredibly accurate - timekeeping back then meant using a literal stopwatch and writing down lap times as drivers passed the pits. feel like I have to mention this cus she gets an entry in the history books only as a widow all too often but she had her own role in motorsport. (she was timing the session Jochen was killed in) - timekeeping was pioneered by women.

Then there was the, "Inflation Reduction Act" which itself did almost nothing to reduce inflation and the only projected loss of inflation would be by a % and only by 2027. Trump was a New York Democrat. And he explained why he didn't run as one several times. And the reasoning was because the Dems would not have let him win. The same way they didn't let Bernie win. And policy wise, Trump and Bernie were not super far off. It's why when Bernie got gutted during the primaries, a lot of Bernie voters went Trump.

And just because Trump doesn't align with the new socialists doesn't mean he's not still a Dem at heart. Just means the modern Dem party keeps moving further and further left. Which if you want tyranny then keep voting for them. You'll get it soon enough. Oh and the prospect that I am "Only critical of Dems" and I "Promote Reps" is fucking stupid. I'm far less critical of Reps because I KNOW they are mostly stupid. But I will let the right criticize their own, and when Reps do something I'm very much slighted by I talk about it. Yeah that's "Investigating" surely.

Yeah, if that had happened to Dems you'd still be shrieking to this day about a stolen election. But because you won, any and all funny business is reasonable and fine and shouldn't be investigated. Which tells me you don't care about fair elections you care about power. Because if you did care about fair elections, you'd have voted against policy changes that were against constitutional law. But unlike me (not a rep) you don't have morals. So long as you win and wield power like a weapon you don't care how you get there. And if that's the Democrat party I want nothing to do with it ever. Real things happened in 2020 that never got investigated. You don't give a fuck. Trumps voted blue most of his life. another complaint I have about feh’s laziness is my most capitalist opinion to date, though it includes fe as a whole: the lack of promotion and extra materials. I’m not one to buy merch just because it exists, and a lot of merch itself is incredibly superfluous waste, but it’s extremely weird that Nintendo’s biggest mobile title (61% of its profits in the mobile market and over 1 billion usd as of February) gets…nothing. No figurines, no plush toys, no dioramas, no manga (the yonkoma are just shorts), no marketing outside of its twitter account, not even those dinky little character cafés even the most short-lived seasonal anime get.

so far only a few characters have figurines (Lucina, edelgard, corrin, byleth, mrobin, caeda, Cordelia, tiki, alm, celica, tharja, Lyn, ike, dimitri, chrom, felix, bernie, Lilina, sakura, camilla, Veronica, Elise, Claude, Lysithea, marth), and plushies (ike, marth, Roy, 3h lords except yuri, the byleths, sothis, lucina, and fcorrin). Of these, alm, tiki, celica, mrobin, and mcorrin only exist as amiibo because of smash; sakura, caeda, and elise only have nendoroids; all three main 3h lords have pop-up parade figurines plus felix, Lysithea, and Bernadetta, but edelgard has a figma as well; fcorrin and lucina both have amiibos and figmas, but fcorrin has a scale figure along with marth, ike, lyn, lilina, Roy, fbyleth, tharja, camilla, and Veronica. Chrom has both amiibo and nendoroid.

you’d think this is a respectable amount of character rep to buy, except these all came at an extremely slow pace, often releasing at the tail end of their games’ cycles; I’m not a marketing expert, but I am a fan, and I distinctly remember the numerous complaints this has gotten (and still gets!) over the years. There is interest—so where’re the goods? Ironically enough, intsys made more content for the earlier games, including manga (jugdral got at least 4) and novelisations, small board figurines, and even an ova for archanea. It’s understandable that by the time of the tellius games, only artbooks were made due to poor sales, but you’d think that the success of awakening saving the series and fates making them even more money would mean more content. But so far, it’s just been those few figurines plus collected yonkoma. The plushies and scale figures weren’t even made until much, much later. Hell, kozaki had to release the fates art book himself without help from intsys, and corrin’s scale figure was only announced this year.

even houses, the series’ biggest hit to date, only started out with crap cardboard cutouts of the characters’ sprites plus the dining hall and plastic pouches. its bigger merch came later as well, including a certain tea set that is not only quite expensive, but made many fans angry due its release date (nopes). Engage seems to be a little more confident, having stickers, a notebook, keychains, switch icons, konpeito, and a metal tumbler, but it’s still very little compared to what other series have.

in-game, feh is also surprisingly subdued. No splashy animated seasonal banner announcements, little original music, few shorts, no streaming collabs, no tie-ins. The book openings get gorgeous animation from anima inc but no cutscenes are found in the game except visual novel-style text, and, again, it was only until much recently that we’ve seen some other animation in the form of like, five chibi shorts and four regular shorts (one of which got heavily mocked because it’s basically fjorm’s disney princess love song moment for the self insert protagonist). Banner announcements are just jpegs showcased next to gameplay plus a few voiced lines from the vas.

when you get to other games though? You’re not starved for content at all: stuffed toys, miniature figurines, large scale figures, acrylic standees, notebooks, keychains, stickers, patches, tableware, glassware, yonkoma AND full manga and novelisations AND light novels, food, fashion, pillows, cosmetics, chara cafés and anime; they all have streamed announcements, animated cutscenes or fully rendered illustrative cgs with voice work, silly promotional videos on youtube, cast interviews, and collaborations with other games. Like, you could not even pay me to touch waifu trash like nikke or azur lane or blue archive, but they at least bother to promote themselves, for better or worse, and regularly do cross promos with other brands like nier, monster hunter, evangelion, and even sanrio.

Even tears of themis, which is extremely niche even within mihoyo’s ecosystem, has had character cafés, accessories, and crazy stuff that no one wants like a credit card!

I’m certainly not the first to ask, but is intsys allergic to making money? So incredibly short-staffed that their only resources are for game dev and a smattering of in-game animation? Stuck to nintendo’s teat? Purely lazy? Why does 70% of merch come from fans to the point where even fanart is the preferred type of autograph material for the english vas? I’m not sure i or anyone else will get the answers to these questions, but is it really so much to ask for a real sleepytime byleth plushie to hold and squeeze instead of lyn’s eighteenth alt?

Conclusion

When Feinstein became mayor of San Francisco in 1978, a Confederate battle flag had been flying outside City Hall for 14 years, along with 17 other flags designed to collectively serve as symbols of American history.

We know that the installation of the Confederate battle flag had been controversial from the outset, and that protesters removed it shortly after it was unveiled in 1964. At the time, San Francisco Mayor John Shelley pronounced his misgivings about it, labeling it a symbol of "legalized sedition" and saying "It makes me shiver every time I see that flag flying."

Feinstein certainly did not order the flag to be removed during the first six years of her tenure as mayor, and in 1981 she accepted a donation of 18 new flags, including the Confederate battle flag, saying "San Francisco is proud to fly these flags where both visitors and residents alike may see and appreciate the more than 200 years of America's rich history which they symbolize."

It could be argued that the decline into disrepair of the "Pavilion of American Flags" represented a good opportunity to reevaluate the inclusion of the Confederate battle flag in that display, and that Feinstein did not, at that juncture, decide to exclude it from the display or refuse to accept it as one of the 18 donated flags. However, that inaction was not the same as affirmatively expressing support for the flying of the Confederate battle flag in particular.

In 1984, we know that Richard Bradley removed the Confederate battle flag on 15 April, and that another one was re-erected the following day. Crucially, however, we don't know who ordered its replacement. We asked Feinstein's U.S. Senate office whether it was she, in her capacity as mayor, or someone else who was responsible for the replacement of the Confederate flag on 16 April 1984 but did not receive a substantive response in time for publication.

The official directly responsible for the flag display at the Civic Center was Thomas Malloy, who ran the department of Recreation and Parks. In public remarks made after Bradley removed the Confederate flag for the second time on 16 April, Malloy indicated he would insist on keeping the Confederate flag flying, despite the protests over it: "The flags as a set were intended to depict American history. As long as that avenue is purported to represent the full range of significant American flags, I don't want to fall victim to revisionist history. We have no intention of removing that flag."

Malloy died in 1989, so we were unable to ask him whether it was he who ordered that the Confederate flag be reinstated on 16 April 1984, or that the "Stars and Bars" be installed in June 1984 (an incident that he described as accidental).

Both @steckel's Twitter meme and "The People for Bernie Sanders" neglected to mention a crucial fact: that it was Feinstein who finally ordered the Confederate battle flag not be replaced after 16 April 1984. And only 11 days later, she announced that it would be replaced with a flag honoring Union soldiers from California. It is misleading and disingenuous to omit those facts from any content examining Feinstein's role in the 1984 Confederate flag controversy.

Furthermore, the additional claim made by "The People for Bernie Sanders," that Feinstein "wouldn't stop replacing the flag" until the pole itself was removed, is misleading. First, because the Confederate battle flag was only replaced once in April 1984, not repeatedly. Second, because it's not clear that Feinstein herself, as opposed to another city official or even a rogue employee, was responsible for its replacement. It's true that the first Confederate national flag (the Stars and Bars) was installed in June 1984, but we could find no evidence that Feinstein was responsible for that act, and the director of Recreation and Parks, Thomas Malloy, said it was done "quite by accident."

Finally, the claim that the destruction of the pole itself is what brought an end to the flying of the Confederate battle flag is both illogical and contradicted by the available facts. First, the pole was replaced in July 1984, shortly after the original one was removed. If Feinstein had been intent on continuously and repeatedly re-erecting a Confederate battle flag there, a new pole was shortly available for that very purpose, and the temporary removal of a pole from that location would have proved no obstacle to her supposed agenda.

Second, Feinstein had already said no new Confederate battle flag would be displayed at the Civic Center more than two months before the pole was removed. She had even specified that the flag would be replaced by one honoring Union soldiers. It was those decisions, not the temporary removal of a flagpole, that brought a permanent end to the presence of any Confederate flag outside City Hall in San Francisco.

Okay ive been working on this setting since high school and its been almost entirely contained in my brain so its hard to actually impart information about people in it but ill try.

In one of the regions, The Hatchetlands (named after the fact a mythical hatchet was used to cut down the Forest [there's a capital F Forest and its bad to be in] to make room for civilization), there is an Elder-Scrolls-Empire style government called the Council attempting to unify the region under their rule. They don't have much competition but it isn't a region that's easy to maintain an iron rule over. There are a few reasons for the Council's supremacy, but a major one is that they have an incredibly advanced Division of Magical Sciences. The Division of Magical Sciences is, on the surface, a way to study how magic actually works, since its mostly only been taught as an art form rather than a science. Theres a lot more to this whole deal but ill get way off topic.

In reality the ultimate goal of the Division of Magical Sciences is something which would essentially turn the plane world into a magical-energy generating machine in a sort of end-of-eva way, at the behest of a otherworldly benefactor (again something that would take too much time to get into). Myella, whos original name was uh well i havent though of one but it wasnt myella, was originally the Gendo of this situation, eningeering a way to connect the thoughts and emotions of all sentient beings. She was killed in a coup within the Division of Magical Sciences by those who wanted to wrest it away from the Council.

Her body was dumped in the woods, where the lingering magic her research involved mingled with some fungi that had begun eating the corpse. Because of the connective nature of said research magic, the fungi were able to link their mycelium together (do you get the name now) into a functioning nervous system for the corpse, effectively Weekend-At-Bernie's-ing her. They can puppet her limbs around very effectively, though things like speech and digestion are beyond them. They do eat corpses, though it's mostly just how mushrooms usually do it. Myella has some access to their hosts's memories, abilities, and feelings, but for the most part they are an entirely new person.

Beyond being a mushroom colony piloting a half decayed meatsuit, the spores also maintain that connective magic, to the point that the mushrooms are able to sense their surroundings by spreading them, as a blindsense of sorts. This lends itself to a fighting style, which is basically never being hit by anything and hopefully something good happens (think vash).

They are able to expand beyond the single body, growing the colony, though distance ends up turning mushrooms left behind back to normal.

They can also use them to connect emotionally with people who spend enough time inhaling the spores, which allows for basic communication with constant companions. Eventually this ability is going to lead to them being the center of the end-of-eva situation their host had ended up planning, but thats in the future. At the start of their adventure, Myella is mostly just like a child exploring the world and discovering what everything is. So who exactly they are is something yet to be determined.

Douxie was taking a deep breath, he was in the bathroom trying to clear his head… maybe it had been a mistake to have champagne at the reception…he hadn’t drunk in a while.

No matter…he just needed to freshen up. As he splashed his face with cold water, he caught sight of his ring… a blue stone glowing on his ring finger, the ring itself made of a dark magical branch and a single leaf, enchanted to last lifetimes…

He felt his heart racing in his chest as a smile overtook his face.. He couldn’t believe it, after centuries of traveling the world and trying to earn his staff. Centuries of being in love only to break it off or never staying from the mere thought of him being immortal… he was married to the love of his life.

It felt so nice…

It felt unreal to him…

But the ring was the proof, the ring that Illy made for him was on his finger and he spent a good moment longer just admiring it…to let it sink in for his beating heart. Once he mostly has that sunk in, he turns to the pajamas he brought in with him. “Right…I need to change..”, He mumbled softly.

Once he changed into his pajamas, he left the makeshift quite modern looking bathroom in the….mostly medieval looking master bedroom. Thank goodness for magic and Akiridion tech, they were able to make these sorts of renovations..

He spotted his newly wed wife sitting on the bed, seeming to fidget with the ends of her hair which was now down from the elaborate bun she had for their ceremony. She has a sleeveless light blue nightgown on, her wings gently folded against her back as she sat.

“Hello, my darling wife…”

Douxie said with a soft tone of voice as he reached down to carefully squish her cheeks in his hands, letting out a soft chuckle as her cheeks turn a shade of red at the new term of affection.

He stared at her with so much love, how turquoise eyes seemed to sparkle like stars, the way her smile, at the moment decorated with red lipstick lit up the whole room and the adorable freckles decorating her red cheeks.

His heart was leaping…

She was so beautiful to him….and he loved her so so much.

He hadn't realized…or maybe he did and merely enjoyed, how Illy seemed to stare back at him with the same if not even more love…

"H..hi…"

She mumbled softly, slowly standing up as she carefully leaned against him. Almost burying her face against his chest but instead just leaning her whole body against him. One of her hands reaching out to trace the magical rune tattoos all over his arms..

And he shivered at the contact, smiling widely at how affectionate she was..

"Everything alright, fluturaș?..."

"Mhm…I..just….I can't believe today was real…I..I can't believe it…we actually got married…we're married Douxie!"

The hushed excitement coming from her made the both of them giddy, coupled with how physically close they are… it was like heaven..

But Douxie pulled back for a moment, he had to… so he could carefully lean down and press the softest kiss against her lips. Arms gently wrapped around her as he carefully but successfully lifted her up.

Gently pressing her against him, he could feel her small butterfly wings flutter just above where his arms were holding her close. They were glowing from how loved she felt.

They could both feel their hearts racing in their chests as they finally pulled away from their kiss, soft pants escaping them as they leaned their foreheads together for a brief moment.

"I…I love you..so much Douxie.." Illy said, so much affection in that hushed declaration that it made his heart absolutely melt.

He twirled her around in his arms for a moment, relishing in the giggle that escaped her. Before carefully getting them both back onto the bed. Laying down on his back and carefully positioning his wife to lay down above him.

Their hearts still racing in their chests…

He heard her giggle as he opened his eyes to look at her, golden hazel yet green eyes staring into turquoise ones…

He saw her giggle and laugh…

He adores it…

He adores and loves her so so much..

"Y..you…I..I smudged my lipstick all over your lips… I'm s..so sorry Douxie I-" She said giggling, reaching her hand out in an attempt to wipe it off…

Until she heard it..

"I love you…so so much…… I'm eternally yours, sweetheart…."

It was a hushed declaration… but with so much love in his voice..

She teared up, effectively smudging what little make up was still somewhat intact…still he found her to be just as stunning as she did in her wedding dress…walking down the aisle…if not maybe even more so…

"Oh fluturaș.."

"I….i love you too…s..so so much.."

He carefully lifted his torso up, if only to cup her soft cheeks with his hands pulling her in for a passionate loving kiss, the two carefully leaning on each other…

They showed all their love for each other that night, passionate kisses and caresses….hands carefully and lovingly exploring each other's bodies…

That night…all that mattered was each other…. And that was…everything they could have ever wished for..

So I have been thinking so much about a potential SL rewrite at one point in the future. So I had to write it down.

Just like the ”how I would rewrite violetta” post that I wrote long ago, it may be VERY different if I write it. If you read my Violetta rewrite, it’s almost nothing like the original post.

Season 1

Simón not hiding in the storage. He’s either at a hotel or he’s getting to live with Pedro and Nico right away.

More Sharon and Luna scenes. They seriously only talked in the first episode and then exchanged like 4 sentences every 20th episode since. I think they needed some more.

Tino and Cato do not exist. Sharon finds out the whole Sol Benson is alive due to another reason. I’m thinking Roberto just called her and then just died the day after

Early hints of Yam realizing she’s in love with Jim, although there’s still a long way to go. I think she's sort of feeling it, but not admitting it.

1x40 kiss is still there but bigger consequences. In my Violetta rewrite, I removed the 2x20 kiss entirely because it made me SO MAD, and I instead wrote it like this. But, the 1x40 kiss in SL is another story. It will still be there, but Matteo will face some consequences for that.

Daniela is actually into Luna and wants to make her jealous with Simón. Because it would be funny, no other reason.

Ámbar is less bratty but more creepy. Yeah, it explains itself.

Lumón is better :) Their relationship is mostly like canon but their dating era will be even better because <3

Matteo will not be treated well by me but I will try to give him some good scenes. Maybe.

Delfi and Jazmin gets called out more on filming people without their consent.

Everything will be more fruity. Like, more fruity than it already was.

Adding stuff I didn't write: Yamiro will still be the same, but just like in canon, Yam is sort of ready to break up with him. Maybe even more.

Also the "Jim finding a boyfriend" plot will have a very funny twist. In actuality, I already wrote this, but this time it will be less focus on them and more focus on everything else.

Everything else is either just like canon or just not mentioned if I rewrite it. Or I am unsure, like how I'll do Felicityfornow and how the final episode will end.

Season 2

Roller Jam will have different costumes for some. I mean, the Yin and Yang costume will still be there obviously, but Ámbar and stuff will have different costumes.

Siempre Juntos, we will not have any failed recording where they cry. Because that's the one scene I have to skip because I CAN'T see it. They will get their rehearsal recording (which they OBVIOUSLY recorded). But, this still does not mean they get in.

Less Juliana drama. It's a bit tense when she arrives but it's way less whining.

Much of the Sol Benson plot will be same.

Sharon gets more visions, I wrote, but I more meant flashbacks. But I think at times, she gets some sort of "what if" scenario visions. It's not only that Lili flashback when the fire started, it's also flashbacks of interacting with Bernie, and talking to Sol. Also, some flashbacks of adopting Ámbar and then suddenly getting visions of Ámbar and Luna as younger. Like seeing Luna in the kitchen and suddenly seeing her as little Sol. Or seeing Ámbar in her room and suddenly seeing her 15 years younger, waiting for Sharon to comb her hair.

Amanda... we'll see. I feel like it got so weird with her imaginary boyfriend.

I literally forgot the english word for it so I wrote "Nina won't commit crimes with Gastón's applications" I of course mean she won't commit forgery and identity stealing lol

More clear Yam has a crush on Jim. Like at this point she's in "I know I am in love with her but idk how to admit it to myself". I am thinking on letting some other people guide her during this, particularly Juliana and Mora. It will be kind of "in-between the lines" but you'll know.

Jim also realizing she's not really into boys. Kind of. She's getting close. She's still in comphet.

Ana and Mora being more obvious. And by that I mean very obvious.

"Shipping" videos by Jazmin gets called out, because it's kind of weird to SHIP YOUR FRIENDS ONLINE JAZMIN.

Graduation will be mentioned or even showed. I think that can be interesting. In the show, it seemed like graduation happened while they were in Cancún, so they all missed it ??? But they gotta graduate.

Sharon and Luna interact more... they have to talk at the hospital especially. Ámbar and Sharon's scene was amazing, but Luna also really needs to speak to her. Plus, that they interact some more during the season, maybe in confrontation.

I for some reason wrote "some hormone juice is spilled when all the boys move in" lmao. But yeah 6 teenagers/young adults living closely together? Stuff goes down. I mean, in canon Luna had that steamy dream about Matteo and then just felt so awkward seeing him immediately at breakfast. Both her and Ámbar will go through some stuff. Ámbar more, I think.

👀some spare soulmate fic recs in this trying time??👀

Okay!!! Hello! I'm finally on my laptop, with a spare five minutes to do this so... here are some of my favourite ones:

The Golden Name On My Wrist by Sapphicsarah - is legitimately one of my favourite fics ever. It's so in character, it's so wonderful and the chapters alternate with perspective so you see why Bernie did what she did and why Serena did what she did. A lovely ending. It mainly follows the path of canon up to Bernie's return from Kiev and then we get a happy ending!! I won't spoil it for you. This one is an AU where soulmate names are on the wrist, however, Bernie got a woman's name (Serena's) and so had hers covered by flesh-coloured ink when she was 17. It's just... I love this fic SO MUCH.

The Scars We Bear by Wonko - this is another favourite. I love it because it's so tailored to them. It's an AU where the scars your soulmate has create an echo on your own skin. Some neat worldbuilding as well as just brilliant moments such as Serena coming face to face with the echo of a C-Section scar, and then later on, the scar from Bernie's IED surgeries.

I can see you with my eyes closed by Beezarre - another really nice one. An AU where soulmates connect by closing their eyes. Some super cool concepts and points I really like such as the fact that Bernie's life as a soldier has obviously transmitted a lot of pain to Serena, so people are protective. And I loved that Bernie helped Serena channel her pain when in labour with Elinor. Bonus points for the Shiraz. I must say I got a bit confused with the concept the further on the fic went, but there's some nice family stuff and it's all fluffy and tender so who cares?

the soulmate colour AU, the one where distance matters by theadmiralscoffee - Excellent. 10/10. Angsty as hell but in all the best ways. The best Soulmate AUs is where each of them know the other is their soulmate, but being unsure if the other knows or is. Berena is a ship that canonically lends itself perfectly to that.

your name carved on my soul by spilled_notes - this one is from Serena's POV and it works so well because of it. A lot of dialogue and just a great premise.

silhouettes of you by seasalttears - another Colour AU where they see colour when they see their soulmate. Excellent stuff. Some really poetic things in there and a declaration of love borne out of anger which we all love to see. Ends with snogging.

Your touch on my skin by fortytworedvines - another good one, where pain is transmitted to a soulmate. A very sweet first meeting fic.

The Wrong Soulmate by Wonko - This is SUCH a giggle. A quick read, but delightfully so.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow by BigBadWolfe - this is a colour AU. The premise is that when you see your soulmate, everything goes black and white and colour only returns when one of them dies. Very little angst as luckily they can't really refute or deny that they are one another's soulmate. But angst at the end because of a character's death (of old age) - it's a scene so sweet and heartbreaking it made me tear up. It's just really bittersweet.

figured it was better to save my thoughts on character outfits for three hopes until we had gotten to see them all. my initial impressions when we just saw edelgard, claude and dimitris designs was that three hopes was looking to be a refinement of designs from houses itself but like most things regarding three houses quality it seems the answers a lot more... down the middle in terms of quality then it first appeared.

blue lions

dimitri: love this design more then his original ts design. i feel thats because dimitris original ts design was made with more thematic purposes in mind but his new design is just made to be appealing to look at.

dedue: not much has really changed but not much really needed to change. still, the beard is such a natural fit for dedue that i cant help but consider it highly.

mercedes: again not a design that changed much at all and not really one that needed to change much at all. i will add that ive always actually liked her original ts hair contrary to a lot of people, but the new bob is probably more appealing to a wider number of people.

annette: i feel like her new design better captures her personality? not that annette cant have depth mind, just that shes very much defined as a go getter kinda quirky young girl which her new look better evokes in my mind.

ashe: i feel like they didnt know where to go with this one? its not bad, its just such an odd shift from his original. still it feels like something ashe would wear to me, hes aiming to be a knight after all.

felix: as opposed to dimitri whos design went from a more thematic to a more aesthetic design, felix feels like hes going in the opposite direction from a more aesthetic design to a more visually thematic one. and i find that incredibly fascinating, like, why are you wearing your dads cloths felix? are these glenns cloths actually? are we gonna get something more directly confronting the fact that felix is written to be incredibly hypocritical/not as insightful as he thinks he is? this one whets my story appetite.

sylvain: sylvain channels his inner lewyen and gets a scarf time? its different flavored but nice in its own way not much more to say other then his hair could have stood to have a bit more height to it if that makes sense?

ingrid: like sylvain theres not much to say, its different but very nice in its own way. hair could stand to be an inch shorter or so but other then that another solid design overall.

black eagles

edelgard: in a weird spot because i actually do like her new ts design, but it also feels like its even worse at conveying the idea of an armor unit then her original design was. there are definitely some interesting implications to draw from that mind, but it doesnt changed the fact that every edelgard design ive ever seen just feels off for one reason or another.

hubert: apparently someone saw how people thirsted over hubert and decided to double down on the wet rat bastard idea hard this time. whether it was to make him less appealing or infact more appealing i cant quite decide, but i dont think theres anyway to get past how hubert looks like a discount version of himself.

dorothea: thats certainly dorothea. ive never been particularly fond of her or her designs so i cant particularly comment, but this feels about the same as her other designs to me. boring if effective at provoking the image of a high society lady.

bernadetta: proof if proof be needed that bernie was always intended as more of a gag character then anything serious. im not gonna waid into the debate on that, but i will note that it must be someones fetish on the design team as theyve seem to have doubled down hard on shut in neet bernie this time.

ferdinand: theres something about the outffit itself i like more then the original, it feels more ferdinand if that makes sense, but the hair really infuriates me this time as it only looks good at certain angles. when it looks shorter then it actually is, ferdinand looks his best.

caspar: the design that feels the most like a mid tier evolution before hitting fully evolved caspar to me. i actually rather like it overall including the short spiked hair.

petra: idk this one feels like a dud to me. individually a lot of the design elements would look pretty good in an outfit designed entirely with them in mind, but as it stands it feels like they mashed several competing designs together without much thought on the cohesiveness of it.

linhardt: femboi linhardt? idk what the case was intended for here, but overall like annette i feel this design better captures linhardts personality and character then his original ts design.

golden deer

claude: i like this design a lot more then the original but not because i strictly think its a better design but more so because this design has most of everything i like in character outfits. another case id say of less thematic intent more visual intent.

hilda: another perfectly serviceable design that looks different but still good. cant decide which hairstyle i like more for hilda but im leaning more towards this one as it feels more like one she'd actually wear in a war setting.

lorenz: looking dapper and fine overall lorenz, people can make fun of his hair all they like but he really makes it work and i like how this feels more applicable for a mage/dark knight which lorenz is primarily geared towards being.

raphael: raphael decided to show off some more muscle which im always down for. the bandana helps bring it together giving him a more worker look which i feel works for him.

ignatz: love the colours a lot more this time and i vastly prefer this compared to his original outfit which just confused me. only thing i dont like about it is the breatsplate, that doesnt fit ignatz as much as it fits ashe and hed have been better off with a more cloth based look there.

lysithea: like claude i like this outfit more not because its a strictly better outfit and more because it just has more design elements that appeal to my tastes then her original look did. i will say i lean to this also being a better fit for lysitheas personality as well though.

marianne: and your gonna hear me roar oar a a a a a a oar like mercedes its a case where the outfit hasnt really changed because ya didnt really didnt need to change much about it, but the hair style has changed to something im not personally more fond of but recognize as a good visually appealing hair style.

leonie: i like her original ts outfit more really but this one looks nice as well and has a bit more individual flair and personality to it then before when she was more so cropping elements from jeralt.

Report from Northern Front 1

Greetings All,

Thank you very much for everyone’s thoughts. All the notes I’ve received have helped to keep me going. Alaska is beautiful although I still haven’t seen much of it. However Ketchikan’s location is quite striking. The water, the forested mountains and the crisp air. All of it is very new and fresh. Hopefully I’ll see more of it soon.

Everything about the store, Bernie’s, is still relatively exciting. Julie the boss is intense and direct. Victor and the rest of the crew are all laid back and have been friendly and helpful. There are lots and lots of moving parts involved in running the business. Luckily most of these repeat constantly and that repetition helps me learn. Dealing with the area’s residents is fascinating. Most folks appreciate a kind word and I’m good at that, of course.

The store itself seems somewhat ramshackle to me but there is definitely a method to the boss Julie’s madness. Her appliance/furniture/mattress store does pretty well. They only have one real competitor and I get impression Julie has a reputation for fairness in her pricing and dealing. So they have a lot of repeat customers which makes my job even easier. Nothing is particularly difficult, there’s just a lot of it and I have a ways to go.

I’m not used to spending so much time on my feet. The tiredness I feel after work feels well earned though and I sleep soundly. The first morning was rough because the blinds were wholly inadequate to keep sun at bay and the town traffic was SO LOUD. Victor rigged some better blinds and I got some earplugs so second morning much better. We live in the Marine View building which apparently has been in Ketchikan forever and the main street runs along side it. 

Unfortunately the apartment is dated and dingy. The soundproofing sucks which makes anything happening in the street loud as hell not to mention neighbors. No curtains or blinds in either the kitchen or living room. Victor hung a sheet over the living room window. Manually washing all dishes is pretty labor intensive. I just washed a load of clothes and such in a medieval laundromat in the basement. Requires quarters. Just terrible.

That my apartment in Sioux Falls is luxurious by comparison jolts my system. I love my apartment and the folks at Lyncrest Manner have been good to me. I am loathe to give it up ESPECIALLY after living here. And Victor pays even more than I do with considerably fewer amenities and much lower quality. 

Victor and I went for a short hike around Ward Lake. https://www.alaska.org/detail/ward-lake-trail Gorgeous day with a bright sun and crisp air. Victor had mentioned past few days have seen very nice weather but everyone expects that to end soon. Even some fellow hikers we greeted said we should enjoy the day as we can expect it to change soon.

I am struck by tremendous home-sickness. I not only miss comfort of my apartment but my kitties, nightly walks with Nathan and Murray and easy access to all of you. Yet, I feel I am exactly where I need to be. I am going to be here a while longer and I mean to make the most of it in every way I can. hardcore wish it was still spring break bc being back on a schedule has made everything Incredibly Real + no longer a walking fever dream.. i am having a,, how do you say it.. a No Good Very Bad Time

#spent a good hour earlier having a panic attack bc the gravitas of the world's situation ran me over like a train #of course i've known things are serious for a while now. they've been serious since the virus was only in china but like.. fuck. idk. #reading about how iran's getting Fucked and the politics in all of that + the politics in america in relation to the virus + how biden is #still getting pushed as the dem nomination Despite bernie almost ditching his campaign to attend to it.. It's just a Lot #idk #i spent last week in a really weird spot. like i was reading about how arkansas was getting worse and worse but like gdhghd idk. like it was #spring break and week one of the quarantine so everything was really detached. school's back in session this week and i probably have to fly #home sunday which by itself is not a big deal But florida hasn't locked down and people from new york are flying to MCO and like. sure they #have to quarantine once they get to florida but even desantis is like yeah there's at least one case on most domestic flights rn! #like.. who knows what i'd be carrying home from ms. mco the international airport :D and like. my mom is over 50 + she's not immunocomprised #BUT i really don't think she would weather this too well and Also she's the main caregiver for my grandma + my grandma Would Not survive #this. she's like already on the edge yk? so it's just #hh #incredibly stressful. school is incredibly stressful. I've emailed my professors and like #idk if it's just the social climate in florida right now (although i'm sure it is because Nobody i'm friends w back home is fucking #isolating!! it feels like nobody is taking it seriously there!) #but they don't seem to grasp that 1. i am in quarantine 2. i have no way to access our materials because i left them in florida because i #was supposed to be home last week! so #fjdhsh #i want to rip out my hair #of course there are so many worse things going on + this is all miniscule complaining in the grand scheme of things but ykw we are all #entitled to vent our frustrations and anxieties so ; J ; w/e i suppose?? #idk i'm just a melting pot of emotion rn + i hate to put this all here but my sister who IS immunocompromised can't really talk about this #kind of stuff anymore because it gives her Mad Anxiety + her body is like ooohh.. we shall now experience Symptoms #and i am Not tryna give her an asthma attack rn hahha #sriracha.txt #vent #coronavirus
