ahead of the s2 release, here are a few incoherent thoughts based on absolutely nothing while i have some time to jot them down during my snow day: (gv book spoilers ahead, so skip for now if you’re a show only fan!)

above all else, i’m just excited to have these characters back in new (and yet still familiar) ways

i do not need this to be a perfect season. it won’t be. no one should be expecting that. speaking entirely right now about the crows and their duology, we have two perfect books to go back to. nothing that happens in this show could “ruin” anything from SoC or CK because they are two different entities

i am scared of the kaz and jordie flashbacks in a way that i have never been scared of anything in my entire life. there is sheer terror coursing through my veins right now.

i know. i just know. that genya’s arc will end my entire life this season. if i hear the words “i am not ruined. I am ruination” delivered by daisy within the next 48 hours i will be ascending to another plane of existence

whatever kanej content we get this season WILL cause a medical emergency for me and i know this

wylan. that’s it, that’s the tweet. wylan.

trying to prepare for my helnik brain cells to be beaten to shit this season

remembering that we also get jesper flashbacks just made me doordash tissues to my apartment

just know this. any zoyalai interactions will have consequences that range so far. that are so intense. the shockwaves will be felt far and wide.

i want unhinged kaz this season and i had better get it. just absolutely wild. cane beatdowns left and right. merciless. irrational. ruthless. give it to us.

i am wholly unprepared to see nikolai living the persona he enjoys most. knowing what’s ahead for him and how much he yearns for these moments in the future. not ready for THAT! wait. if this season covers books 2 and 3 are we going to see demon!nikolai. oh FUCK. oh fuck oh fuck. why did i not consider this before literally right now.

in summary, we are fucked. good luck out there everyone. NMNF.

omg talk to me abt soc bcs i haven’t finished tck yet but everyone loves that series sm that i don’t hear much criticism on it ! (also if you’ve read the shadow and bone series too i’m dying to hear ur thoughts on it …. 😭) btw ur blog is so lovely ( as r U ) and it never fails to make my day idk if this is weird lol but ilysm 🫶

unfortunately i read the soc duology back when it was being published so it’s been a very long time lol. i think my primary gripe was the racial/ethnic classifications bardugo invested in bc they felt very caricaturized at times and then i’m sure upon reread i would have more issues with the matthias stuff bc he’s.. well. a snow nazi or whatever ksbdkdnkdj. but aside from that i don’t have much to say bc i remember too little. i do have reviews of the original grisha trilogy up on my goodreads (fauxvais) albeit those are also old so i have no idea whether i’d feel the same way now as i did then. i may honestly reread all of it next year bc i tend to do that a lot to see how my views of certain book series’ have changed. what i can say is i hated the nikolai duology. that was what i was most looking forward to bc of the nature of nikolai’s transformation and the potential monster romance aspect but it ended up being so lame.. i’m still living in the world where nikolai was a monster permanently and zoya loved him that way bc she was the only one who wanted to

#if you’re wondering where i stand in terms of ships though. it’s like zoyalai (my version). then kanej. and that’s it #i truly could not give a damn about the romances in the original trilogy. i do think mal is unfairly hated though #and i don’t like aleksander personally but i think i would have issues with his writing upon reread. maybe #outbox #also ty for the compliment! love ya 🤍

Also I will take it very personally if Zoya/Nikolai moments are repurposed for things that don’t involve their own relationship (aka give their lines to other people or something equally stupid lmaoo). Like use them in a new context since the KoS/RoW plot is going to be hella different anyway (and the same thing already happened to Kanej) but the writers are going to have to try really hard to convince me that they care about her and their dynamics + what makes it compelling.

Tbh I'm kinda hopeful about their interactions and relationship for whatever reason. But it is true that they mixed up a lot of SoC moments into this plot which made them lose impact and the writing didn't particularly flatter Nikolai, Inej or even Kaz. The writers are so much more focused making the plot rapid and bingeable than the characters and Zoya is just a particular victim because of this, but also because Sujaya wasn't as avialable as she was last season (although her writing in season 1 was also very questionable). And it's also true that they already fucked up my 2nik for......quick and easy character development??? or something???? Honestly I can't tell you WHY I'm hopeful I guess I just want to see Nikolai and Zoya interact on screen. Regardless.....I guess I'll always have my own imagination and AO3.

i just saw a post that told me that if i started vibing, id enjoy s2 of s&b and i wholeheartedly agree

but i just cant get over it- because they tried to do it so accurately in the first season that now that they're onto the second season, that's what people expected

had they gone in from the get go and said "this shit is going to be nothing like the books," i'd be so chill about it but i was expecting it to be accurate to the books as well so i'm just shaken up

but it's the slowness of s1 compared to "well, we might not get greenlit so let's just get lit"-ness of s2, it's jarring and that's why i didn't like it

if they do end up getting greenlit, i feel like i'll just vibe because i know what to expect and even if they do butcher the characters, i can always go back to source material and vibe there, but right now, im a little mad
