Revamp of my Film Noir Au, now named Mafia Au
Danny lives a double-life, but this time is an hitman instead of a superhero, and all ghosts (minus Clockwork) are his targets/victims
Because like you know I love Aus where Danny isn’t playing nice 😈
xxx
Additional Arts with Jazz/Vlad/Dani and Au Information below the “Keep Reading”
(Triggers Warning: mention of violence and death)
——————————————————————— Name: Daniel James Fenton Nickname: Danny Occupation: Part Time Nasty Burger employee / Pro Hitman Age: 23 Codename: Phantom Kill Count: ??? Personal Gun: Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm Abilities: Smart, good liar, social skills, self-defense, guns skills, knife skills, first aid, parkour
History:
Daniel Fenton is the youngest son of Maddie and Jack Fenton. His parents died when he was still in middle school, leaving him alone with his hospitalized older sister Jazz Fenton and a lot of debts.
In high school, he started to steal money to keep his parents’ house and pay for Jazz’s hospitalization.
One day, without noticing he was stealing drug dealers, he accidentally got caught in a shoot-out. After the slaughter, hidden behind a bin, he met “The Master of Time” a professional hitman. At first the hitman wanted to kill him in order to erased any witness but Danny begged him to spare his life and to teach him assassination instead. Confused but intrigued by so much will, and after serious warnings the hitman accepted Danny as his apprentice. One year after, Danny got his first mission and target, an ex-policeman by the name of Percival Walker.
In the beginning Danny only wanted to target dubious people, but after being call « monster » by one of his victim, and then killing the innocent witness Dorathea Legrand, he stopped caring and started to accept missions with innocents and even children.
Each mission usually brought him between 15’000$ and 30’000$, after the intermediate commission he stored the rest on 5 separate bank accounts with different names, and lied to Jazz about his current job, saying that their parents left them a lot of insurance money.
He approximately killed 3-6 persons a year but hadn’t killed anyone in the last year and started to run out of money. In April, he gladly accepted his next mission, a wealthy businessman in the name of Vladimir Masters.
Morals:
Danny is now ok to kill people, after all animals kill to eat, humans also kill animals for food. Receiving money to kill somebody isn’t so different from receiving money to butcher a cow for steak. After long conversations with his vegan friend Sam, he concluded that animals' lives don’t worth less than human lives. Moreover humans kill other humans, for oils or other horrible beliefs (racism, homophobia etc…). At least he does it to help his sister and not twisted pleasure. Like he says “He didn’t have a choice and can’t go back.”
Danny used to but doesn't have regrets anymore, “What's done is done” and what he earns help him to keep Fenton Works and Jazz alive by moving her to a better hospital.
He doesn’t have guilt either, the one to blame is the person who asks him to kill. The one to blame is the person who wants to kill, not the knife. Like a knife he is only a ‘tool’.
Even if he never sees a ghost he believes in a sort of afterlife, and isn’t scared of death. He only hopes to survive long enough until Jazz fully heals.
Memorable Kills:
Mission 1: Jailbreak Target name: Percival Walker Occupation: Prison Guardian, ex-policeman Cause of Death: Shooted in the head
Mission 2: Djinn Target name: ? Occupation: Secret mistress of a wealthy businessman Cause of Death: Stabbed in the throat Notes: Commissioned by the businessman’s jealous wife.
Mission ?: Specter Target name: ? Occupation: Teen therapist/counselor Cause of Death: Shouted several time all over her body Notes: Called Danny « freak » and « monster » right before death.
Mission ?: Plague Target name: Aragon Legrand Occupation: Heir of a powerful wealthy family Cause of Death: Shouted in the head Notes: Dorathea Legrand, Aragon’s sister, unexpectedly intervened during the mission, trying to protect her brother. She was also killed to avoid witnesses.
Mission ?: Lullaby  Target: Ember McLain Occupation: Diva Cause of Death: Burned alive in her house, to make it look like an accident
Mission ?: BlueBlood Target name: ? Occupation: Rich Young Heir of a wealthy family Cause of Death: Suffocated in his sleep Notes: Youngest target, he was only 8
Mission ?: Snow Target name: ? Occupation: Journalist & Books Critic Cause of Death: Shouted in the head
xoxoxoxo
Name: Jasmine Panthea Fenton Occupation: Hospitalized civilian  Age: 24 Nickname (by Danny): Jazz, and sometimes before her hospitalization Panny
History:
Hospitalized for a long time her health seems to deteriorate with each passing day, though moving to a better hospital seems to have stabilized her a bit.
Danny is making sure to visit her at least twice a week to keep her company and brought her plenty of books he lends from the library (even if she doesn’t always have the strength to read its, she is happy to have Danny to keep her company).
Though weaker, Jazz is intelligent and doesn’t believe one second the “insurance money” excuse, but she lets Danny has his secrets anyway until the day he decides to tell her everything. Little she suspects her baby brother, who smells like fried food and cheap burgers, has his hands covered with blood.

Name: Unknown but his Initials are C.W. Occupation: Retired Hitman, intermediate Age: ??? Codename: Master of Time Nickname (by Danny): ClockWork Kill Count: ???
History:
After teaching everything he knows to Danny, he got shot in the knee and forced to retire. He now uses his old connections to act as an intermediate to find him missions.
Clockwork knows Danny only kill to help his sister and is actually very protective of him. He tries to help him and keep him as far as he can from too dangerous missions, even if Phantom’s skills and abilities to kill fast without letting traces are highly sought-after, resulting in more dangerous missions and famous targets.

Mission ?: Plasmius Target name: Vladimir Mikhailovich Masters Occupation: One of the wealthiest businessman of the world Nickname (by Danny): Fruitloop Age: 49 Note: The bounty for his head would be able to finish paying Danny’s debts
History:
Vlad has a lot of enemies. He is a billionaire and is always on the right side of the law but also do a lot of devious stuffs in the shadows (child labor, ecologic disasters etc…). For humanity's sake, he is literally better dead.
Danny tracked Vlad for months before having the chance to point a gun on the almost untouchable man.
xoxoxoxo
Name: Danielle Masters Dead Name: Kim S. Occupation: Vlad’s personal bodyguard, keeps an eye on her master’s security 24/7 Age: 22 Nickname (by Danny): Elle Kill Count: ??? Personal weapons: Glock 26 and several knives hidden in her boots and jacket Abilities: Smart, good liar and actress, high class social skills, self-defense, guns skills, knife skills, first aid, parkour, high education, bilingual
History:
Vlad found her during one of his visits in a warzone country. In one rare act of kindness (?), he took her with him, raised her and paid for her « training ».
While acting as Vlad’s clingy and annoying daughter, she is in fact his close bodyguard. Dani is very devoted and would give her life for her « father » without an once of hesitation.
She usually wears a long jacket to hide her small thought muscular build and wears cloths comfy enough to run and jump.

In which Ladybug and Chat Noir are true Heroes
I’ve been sitting on it for a few weeks now. It wasn’t supposed to really be a fic, but it turns out okay, so I decided to finish it and post it anyway. The end is kind of rush, but I wanted to be done with it so, yeah.
Hope you all like it!
I apologize for any spelling and grammars errors, English is not my first language. I hope it’s still intelligible.
.
.
.
Marinette is doing a better job at superheroing than she ever thought she would. Still, contacting real professionals sounds like a good idea. Chat is a bit reticent at first, because being Chat Noir is the only freedom he has and he doesn’t want it to end, but after she points out all the people who are suffering, he shamefully agrees to call the Justice League with her.
They don’t receive any answer, and no one shows up.
Chat is sure that it’s because there’s a world ending threat they have to take care of first, and they’ll answer as soon as they can. After the fifth’s plea for help, he doesn’t seem to really believe it either. Still, they continue to call every month.
When Chat becomes too pushy with his flirting, she sits him down, taking a day off from patrolling, and shows him a video about sexual harassment. He watches the entire thing, horrified. And then he apologizes and swears to never flirt again and he’s so, so sorry, but he really doesn’t know how to do social things or how to deal with his crush in a non-anime way, he only ever had one friend before starting school and she wasn’t the best at social interactions either and can Ladybug ever forgive him?
So, Marinette calms him down and tells him it’s alright. Everyone makes mistakes, even more so when they don’t know about the issue. And maybe he can ask his new friends about ethics and social issues. And of course, she’ll be there to answer any of his questions. We’re partner, chaton.
So, the next day, at school, Adrien takes Nino aside so they can have a private talk. He tells him about the crush he developed on this girl he works him, about the flirting and how she showed him a video on sexual harassment, and he didn’t know. So can Nino, please, helps him learn this sort of things? Anything Gabriel wouldn’t have thought Adrien needed to be taught, because those were society thing that everyone learnt eventually. Except, apparently, Adrien.
Nino is horrified. He’s so going to kick Gabriel Agreste’s ass! This is what happen when you isolate your kid!
But Nino is also really proud of his bro for accepting that he was in the wrong and trying to educate himself.
They start by learning more about sexism together. Then Nino ropes Max, Kim, Marinette and Alya into teaching him about racism. And then, Juleka pipes up about ableism. Soon enough the whole class is involved and they’re all learning about all kind of harassments and world problems. They’re all learning things. Chloé gets involved more and more as Ladybug’s influence gets stronger. They have debates and everyone try to stay nice and not talk over each other. It doesn’t always work, but at least they stay respectful.
(And Adrien realizes that maybe he can say no too. Maybe sexual harassment is not something that only women have to deal with. And maybe child labor laws have merit. Maybe what his father is doing is really abuse. Maybe he can do something about it. He has his friends to support him and they won’t let his father just take him out of school because he disagrees with Adrien. Maybe he can be really free.)
A few weeks after the video, Chat Noir excitedly tells Ladybug about what he’s been learning with his friends, and Marinette hides a wince at the confirmation of her suspicions. Because it was definitely suspicious when Adrien asks Nino about ethics the following day of their talk about sexual harassment. She hadn’t wanted to acknowledge it and she didn’t tell Tikki, because the moment she thought about telling her kwami, she remembered with sharp clarity Chat Noir telling her “I can only be myself when I’m Chat Noir” And Marinette can’t take that away from Adrien. He’s her partner and, no matter the lack of romantic feelings, she loves him.
It also puts her crush on Adrien in question, because if she’s in love with Adrien, but not Chat Noir, then she doesn’t love Adrien in his entirety. And since Adrien is not really himself in public, then that means she’s in love with the image he’s portraying to the world, not the real him. She has a good cry, it’s her first heartbreak, but then it’s easier to let go of her crush and focus on being his friend. And Adrien looks like Christmas has come early when they have a full conversation without her stammering. The fact that he thought she didn’t like him and didn’t want to be his friend breaks her heart a little.
(She may or may not tell him she knows his identity and also shares hers, but only when they’re already transformed so their kwamis don’t know they know. Maybe.)
Fast forward a few months, Ladybug and Chat Noir are a very efficient team and the students of Miss Bustier’s class are closer than ever.
(Volpina happened and then Lila ‘leaves for Achuu’. Mrs. Rossi may be busy, but she doesn’t want her daughter’s education to fall behind  and so she calls the school to know if the State will help pay for tutors while the Akuma situation is being handled and that’s how she learns that her daughter is lying to her. Again. Lila is shipped back to Italy to attend a strict boarding school.)
The Justice League still hasn’t answered.
And then Syren happens and two million people died.
It doesn’t matter that Ladybug brought them back with her cure, they still died! And they remember drowning! She read the comments on the Ladyblog, people are scared! She was aware that people died in Akuma attacks, but none have been as deadly as Syren. (And she’s so, so relieved that Ondine doesn’t remember the damage she did. She’s a teenage girl, she doesn’t need this sort of trauma to drag her down. Marinette knows from Kim that she’s already feeling enough guilt when she heard about it after everything was back to normal.)
This time, Ladybug doesn’t just call the League. She ropes Alya into helping her and she rants for a good five minutes about what is happening in Paris and two million people died, don’t you care?! Aren’t you supposed to be heroes?! Alya posts it to the Ladyblog and sends it to the JLA.
That how the Parisians learn that Ladybug and Chat Noir have been trying to contact the League for months and they’re all pretty angry at the dismissal. Everyone who can, send an email or call. They’re going to be heard, dammit!
.
The Justice League’s mailbox gets so suddenly flooded that all the heroes receive an alert about an emergency and they all immediately zeta-beam to the Watchtower. Diana has to finish her mission on Themyscira before she can meet everyone, but she has full faith in her teammates to hold on until she gets there.
The heroes are then confronted with the video of a rating teenager about the flooding of Paris and all her followers.
“Paris is not flooded!” Superman seethes, looking at the monitor. “And the heat signatures are roughly the same number as yesterday!”
Some more poking and they find the Ladyblog run by a teenager with shaky videos about her classmates somehow becoming supervillain. The CGI is pretty great but it’s so cliché, it’s hilarious.
(Diana receives a ‘false alert’ message and rolls her eyes. Men.)
“We don’t know if she did it on purpose or not, but it can’t happen again.” Batman says.
Heroes start to zeta-beam back to their city, grumbling.
“Someone should go put the fear of God in the kid.” Red Hood jokes, rolling his eyes (not that anyone could see).
“Thank you, Red Hood, for volunteering,” Batman replies very seriously, but Jason knows that Bruce is laughing at him. Dammit!
So Red Hood zeta-beams to Paris (he doesn’t even pack a bag, it’s going to take like five minutes). Batman has sent him the address of the school the creator of the Ladyblog attends. It’ll be a good start to find the polka-dot kid.
Except that halfway to his goal, he has to stop on a rooftop because there’s a giant woman raging and fighting two really acrobatic people. One of them is the red polka-dot girl, the other is a black leather clad guy who can’t be much older than her.
“Batman, we’ve got a problem.” He coms.
“Red Hood?” and he can hear the worry in Bruce’s voice, and he feels even more shitty.
“The girl and her partner are fighting a 15 feet woman made of diamond. Half the Champs-Elysées are in rumbles. I really don’t think it’s a scam.”
And then he sees the Miraculous Cure, watches as the Champs-Elysées are restored, sees people coming back to life and understands. Jason feels sick. Because the girl in the video was a teenager and if everything she said is true then she’s been dealing with this whole shit for months and even as Robin he had Batman he could lean on.
As the two heroes jumps away, Jason races to catch up with them. Ladybug and Chat Noir are definitely teenagers and they look suspiciously at him, but he manages to convince them that he came from the JLA and can they please talk?
The Parisian heroes accept, but they were in the middle of something first so they can meet up latter at the Eiffel Tower. And then they swing away without waiting for an answer. Red Hood doesn’t chase them down. He tells everything he just saw to Batman and asks for someone to comb through the Ladyblog and give him some damn intel before it’s time to meet the kids.
Half an hour later, Jason is in jeans and playing the clueless tourist, asking what the hell is going on here.
It’s early evening when Ladybug and Chat Noir arrived at the Eiffel Tower in one long graceful jump. Jason is a bit jealous because he definitely had to use his grapping-hook to get there, but those kids can do it without assistance.
Chat Noir is super exited to meet him now that they have time to talk. Ladybug is more cautious, but she looks just as relieved.
“Are you here alone? Why did it take so long before someone came?” She asks softly.
Looking at the kids, Jason doesn’t want to tell them that no one took them seriously. They look so relieved to see him here. Obviously, the girl’s rant was powered by fear and helplessness, not any hate against the JLA. Now that he’s facing her, he thinks she looks really small in her red polka-dot suit.
Dammit Bruce! This weird serial adopting nonsense wasn’t supposed to be inheritable!
He owes them the truth, though. His com is transmitting live so he knows that B is listening at least, but he doesn’t really care for protocols right now.
“The JLA receive a lot of requests for assistance every day, so we have civilian workers that sort out which requests are genuine, which ones would benefit from a JLA intervention and which ones are scam.”
“And our requests were classified as scam because there’s no proof left after I cast the Cure.” She looks tired and resigned, like she had already come to this conclusion months ago. Red Hood can’t fault her that. The preliminary report he received from Red Robin showed him how smart she was. She’s also not one to suffer delusions and they’ve been fighting for months. It would have jaded anyone.
“But we send a new request for assistance every month,” Chat said, quiet and solemn beside his teammate. “It should have raised red flags that the same person sends the same request every month.”
“It should. We’ll look into it.”
“Can you control your negative emotion?” Ladybug eventually asks. “Because we need help. Chat and I, we’re not detectives. We don’t know where to look or how to cross patterns or whatever else we would need to do in order to find Hawkmoth. We don’t have a helpful mentor to show us the way. But we’re also been fighting for months and Paris is ours. We’ll accept help gladly, but only from people who know how to control their negative emotions. We don’t want to face an akumatised hero, we have enough trouble with some civilians.”
And shit, but Jason hadn’t thought of that. From the curses in his ears, he isn’t the only one. Fuck magic, it makes everything more complicated.
“Maybe they could lend assistance from a distance?” Chat proposes, looking at Ladybug. “We could send them our data so they can look for Hawkmoth from a safe distance while we continue to take care of Akuma. And once we have a name or a location, we’ll finally put at end to it.”
“That’s a good idea, Chaton.” She raises an eyebrow in Red Hood’s direction.
“Works for me,” he shrugs. There’s a sharp ‘Red Hood’ in his ear, but Jason ignores it. The kids are right and Jason, at least, doesn’t want to know what an akumatised Red Hood could do. “Here.” He throws an extra com at Ladybug who catches it effortlessly. “I’ll be on my way, but were staying in contact. And send any data you can to the JLA so we can start working on your case.”
“Thank you.”
Ladybug smiles softly, but Chat waves exuberantly before Red Hood throws his grapping-hook to the nearest building. He hopes they can catch Hawkmoth quickly, and that they’ll both continue to hold on and that they’ll both be there to see their city free. They deserve it.
.
.
.
And I’m going to stop there, before the plot bunnies can try to make me write more and lose interest.
The idea came when the sentence ‘This weird serial adopting nonsense wasn’t supposed to be inheritable!’ popped into my head and wouldn’t leave me alone. And then I wanted to address Chat’s attitude and Marinette’s crush, because while I like Adrien salt and Lukanette is my OTP, I like Adrinette too and Chat’s attitude, no matter what, is not okay.
I didn’t write it with a pairing in mind, though, so feel free to think of it as pre-Adrinette, Lukanette, Daminette or any other pairing you want. Or keep it gen if that’s your thing too.

Tumblr media
“Y/N?”
Your face contorts in confusion, removing the phone away from your ear and looking at the caller ID which causes your eyes to nearly bulge out your sockets at the name.
“JUNGKOOK!?” you scream in surprise, fumbling with your phone and putting it up against your ear. “Jungkook!”
You hear a laugh on the other end that immediately makes you smile.
“Geez. I’ve never heard you call my name so excitedly,” Jungkook says, a smile obvious in his voice.
Your smile falls off your face, reminding yourself to calm down.
“I wonder why,” you say with an unintentional bite to your tone that makes Jungkook grimace.
After a brief second of silence, you regain a chirpier tone realizing that he might be drowning in guilt.
“I’m so-”
“Anyway, why’d you call?” you ask, unintentionally interrupting Jungkook’s apology.
After a brief pause, he continues. “Well. . . you’re done with classes for today, right?”
Your lips twitches, your mind jumping to conclusions at his simple question. You again remind yourself to not sound too enthusiastic before answering Jungkook.
“Hm. . . yeah, I am,” you try to say with little emotion, terribly failing and sounding way too excited.
You hear a slight laugh from Jungkook before he suppresses it. “Good. Let’s celebrate the end of the day with some food.”
“Pfft,” you laugh.
“Why are you laughing?” you can nearly hear Jungkook’s pout in his voice.
“Because,” you say. “It’s just another normal day. What’s there to celebrate?”
“Celebrate the fact that we’re alive another day,” he responds as if it were the most normal and obvious answer.
“I guess,” you mutter, mindlessly swinging your legs under the library table.
“Whatever,” he scoffs. “Should we go to Benny’s Place for dinner?”
You nod, then hum in response once you realize he couldn’t see you.
“See you at 6,” Jungkook says with a weirdly soft voice and hangs up.
“See you,” you whisper, despite the fact that he wouldn’t hear you.
Six o'clock. You hope he shows up.
\\
“Why’s the food taking so long today?” you sigh with impatience.
To your surprise, Jungkook was the one who actually arrived earlier than you at Bennys. When you saw him scrolling through his phone while sipping on some water, you couldn’t help but grin and yell a greeting as you bust through the door.
“Right?” Jungkook agrees, briefly looking around the restaurant. “But. . . it doesn’t seem like anyone else got their food either.”
You squint your eyes suspiciously at the other people around you who were also impatiently waiting around. A family of four were getting up from their seats, the mom visibly frustrated, the dad indifferent, the younger boy whining and the older one with a deadly look on her face.
Interesting family dynamic, you note.
Over in the middle, there were two pairs of couples. The one by the corner looked quite sad. The woman was sighing, fiddling with her straw as the man in front of her was blatantly smiling down at his lit-up phone.
The other was much younger. They looked like high school students who were just beginning to date. You watch with a smile as they giggle at each other, obviously in their own little world, too infatuated with each other to have awareness of their surroundings.
Jungkook glances up at you as you observe the people sitting around. He can’t help but grin at how you looked as if you were drawing out each and every person’s life story in your brain.
Seeing a glimpse of Jungkook’s bunny teeth, you whip your head around and make startling eye contact with him.
Jungkook sputters out water, not expecting you to turn around so quickly.
You laugh as you reach for the napkin holder and pluck out the cheap, non-absorbant napkins.
“Are you okay?” you ask between laughs, unable to wipe the silly grin off your face.
Jungkook nods, letting out a breathy laugh. “Sorry. Your face scared me.”
You playfully scoff at his teasing smile. “Why? Too beautiful for you?”
Jungkook rolls his eyes despite the blush coming up his cheeks. “It’s blinding.”
You giggle as he plays along.
“Your ugliness,” he finishes with a short laugh.
“Hey!,” you softly shout in a scolding tone, grabbing your straw to flick some water at him.
You stick out your tongue as Jungkook yelps over dramatically.
At that moment, Jungkook’s phone lights up with a text message. You don’t mean to pry as your eyes automatically flit towards the light nearly finishing reading the caller ID, but it’s gone from your view.
Jungkook grabs his phone, almost frantically, shooting you an awkward smile before his eyes scan the text.
You grow slightly nervous at the exceedingly grim expression Jungkook’s smile was turning into.
“Is something wrong?” you ask, unable to hide the disappointment in your tone.
Jungkook winces at your voice, knowing that you knew and were expecting him to bail out. “Uh. . .”
You look at him expectantly as Jungkook gulps and heaves out a sigh.
You let out a laugh in disbelief. “Kook. Just go.”
Jungkook’s eyes widen in guilt. “What?”
“Go wherever you go whenever you bail during our hangouts.”
Jungkook face contorts with conflict. “Y/N. I’m-”
“I know you’re sorry,” you say sharply. “I don’t need your apologies anymore. I don’t need any excuses. Whatever’s going on with you, I don’t want to hear it because obviously I’m not worth it to know from the beginning.”
“No. Y/N,” Jungkook desperately tries to meet your eyes. “It’s not like that.”
You bury your head into your hands. “Just go, Jungkook. To Nari or to Tae, I don’t know. Just go.”
After a few moments of silence, you timidly look up, watching Jungkook’s eyes critically scan his phone and sigh with a deep frown.
Feeling your stare, he looks up, eyes immediately softening at the sight of you slightly slumped over in disappointment.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry,” Jungkook says with such sincerity that it takes you aback. “I promise I’ll make it up to you. Just. . . Stay here for like ten minutes?”
Yes. It was fine. He must have a good reason to leave. You recall the brief interaction you had with Spiderman about a week ago. Maybe Jungkook had a really good reason like Spiderman did that he couldn’t tell you.
“Okay,” you nod with a shaky exhale. “I’ll wait.”
Jungkook briefly smiles, feeling a rush of relief at your reply.
“Only ten minutes,” you state firmly, crossing your arms across your chest as Jungkook frantically nods, quickly rushing out the booth and stumbling out the door.
You sigh, ready to depressingly stuff your face with fries (if your order ever got to you), then get an idea.
Why not just follow him out?
Was it an invasion of privacy?
For your own sake, you shake that thought out of your head and decide quite recklessly that you were going to see what the hell Jeon Jungkook was up to for the past few months.
In fear of losing him, you whip out some bills to cover for the labor charge of the waiter getting water for the two of you, swinging your bag over your shoulder. You run out the doors of Benny’s and look around down the sidewalk. You quickly spot Jungkook as he turned a corner down the left sidewalk.
Good thing he hadn’t gone very far, you think with relief as you break into a run after his shadow.
You pant as you start to turn the corner and face a dead end.
Geez. You were completely out of shape.
You look around the short and narrow alleyway that’s blocked by a whole wall of bricks.
“Jungkook?” you call out, confused. There was no way he just disappeared. There was nowhere to go.
Swish.
You whip around at the noise to face the city’s superhero, once again.
Spiderman.
“AH!” you yelp, jolting back at the sudden sight of the contracting eyes on Spiderman’s suit.
“L-Lady,” Spiderman stammers, shocked. “What are you doing here?”
You stutter, trying to compose your figure by briefly combing through your hair and straightening your wrinkled shirt. “I thought. . . I thought I saw my friend running in here.”
You trail off, taking the short time to observe the man in front of you. He seemed to be similar to Jungkook’s height. No, he was Jungkook’s height. He had the same broad, built form, and the way he was standing was quite too similar to the kid you called your best friend.
A loud siren sounds from the distance, making Spiderman’s head whip around in alarm.
“Hey uh,” he states, starting to run out of the alley. “I’ll see you later, but for now, go back into Bennys. It’s not safe on the streets at this time.”
Your foot moves forward on instinct, hand reaching out as if you were about to stop him but as usual, Spiderman swings up into the air, webs shooting out of his suit and taking him off to save another damsel in distress.
Huh. Weird. His voice sounds so similar to Jungkook’s.
There was no way, you gulp, toying with the idea of Jungkook being Spiderman.
How? Why?
If he was Spiderman, that would explain the several times Jungkook had to abruptly leave during a hangout and why he was so tired all the time.
You groan, the complicated thoughts hurting your head and instead make a mental note to have a serious talk about this with either Jungkook or Spiderman.
Whomever you ran into first.
\\
“Hello?” you say in a groggy voice, hand reaching up to your face to rub away the bleariness of your vision.
“Y/N?” a clear, way too bright voice answers.
You remove your phone from your ear and tap it to see the caller ID.
“Jungkook?” you squint. “It’s four am. What’s the matter?”
“I uh. . . Bennys was closed,” he rambles. “When. . . When I went back.”
You sigh, way too tired for this talk. “Don’t worry. I barely waited ten minutes. I forgot I had an essay due anyways.”
You guess it was a half-truth. You did barely wait ten minutes. I mean, you ran after him then ran into Spiderman and decided to just go home on the suspicion that Jungkook was Spiderman which meant that he would most likely not make it in time.
“Oh,” Jungkook responds, slightly relieved. “Well uh. . .It’s pretty late, huh.”
“What’s your point, Jungkook?” you bluntly ask, feeling your eyelids droop. “Why’d you call at 4 in the freaking morning?”
Jungkook hesitates before sighing into the speaker as if he were having an internal crisis. “I have to tell you something.”
Your eyes shoot open from their half-closed state at his words that sound weirdly determined. Was he going to tell you. . . Spiderman?
You push that assumption that was probably not at all true and instead nod. Whatever it was, it must be pretty important for him to call so late/early. Whichever way you saw it.
“Okay,” you say, trying to calm your rapidly beating heart that was going to fail if you didn’t stop thinking that Jungkook was the nation’s viral hero, Spiderman.
Jungkook takes in a breath, leaving you slightly confused before he breathes back out.
“I’m uh. . . actually in front of your apartment building.”
You slight gasp and willingly step out of the comfort of your mattress and fluffy blankets to walk over towards the window that had a street view to the entrance of your complex.
You spot Jungkook right away, taking in the image of him in a tattered white shirt that had an odd black blob on the side and the pair of sweats he always wore.
“I see you,” you state, despite the odd visual appearance. “Should I go down?”
You see Jungkook shake his head as he starts to limp over to the entrance. “No. Is it okay if I go up?”
He’s limping. You gulp, afraid of the pain Jungkook was in and if he really was the superhero.
“Hello?” Jungkook asks, pausing in his steps and taking your silence as an indication that he had overstepped boundaries. “Shoot. Sorry. I should’ve asked before just showing up.”
“No no,” you say, forgetting that he had asked you a question because of his limping form. “Sorry. Still kinda tired. You can come up right now.”
“Okay,” Jungkook states then hangs up the call. You gulp, watching as Jungkook seems to flinch as he gently presses his hand against the blob on his shirt.
Was that blood? Was he hurt?
Alarm bells ring in your head as your legs take off out of your room and out your apartment door and into the hallway.
You anxiously wait at the elevator, hearing it whirr to life, indicating that Jungkook was making his way up to your floor.
The elevator bell dings and the doors slide open to reveal Jungkook leaning against the wall, obviously in pain as he clutches his side and tiredly looks up.
“Y/N?” Jungkook slightly gasps in surprise, not expecting you to be outside waiting for him.
You sigh, a deep frown etched onto your face as you slowly step towards him.
“Why are you. . . bleeding?” you ask, heart literally breaking as you see the physical wounds on his body.
Was he really Spiderman?
“Oh, this,” Jungkook nervously laughs, earning a firm gaze to the side of his face.
You sigh, eyes flickering away from the gash on his cheek and bloodied corner of his lip. You hurriedly move beside him to grasp his arm, mind finally catching up to the current situation of him bleeding out in the public elevator. “Hold on to me. Let’s go in.”
The words in Jungkook’s mouth seem to disappear as you gently take hold of his arm, your warmth spreading to the side of Jungkook’s cold, pained body that makes him unconsciously lean into your touch.
After a moment of struggling to get your front door open, you help Jungkook over to your room, setting him down onto the bed.
“Wait here,” you state and run out of the room to grab a glass of water. You place it haphazardly on your nightstand for Jungkook to drink then head right back out to grab a wet washcloth and the first aid kit.
Once you get inside, you see Jungkook shifting to get more comfortable and a nearly empty glass propped up on the nightstand.
“Lean against the headboard,” you say, crouching down on your knees so you were eye level with his wounds.
You nervously chew on the dead skin of your lips and tentatively reach over to the end of Jungkook’s shirt.
You glance up. “Can I?”
Jungkook nods, breath slightly hitching as you lift up his shirt to reveal a gash running across his side.
“Oh my goodness,” you breath out, dropping the shirt and looking away.
You weren’t very good with blood.
“I hope you’re aware that I have no idea how to take care of wounds,” you inform him, fiddling with the dusty first aid kit that you’ve never opened before.
You see Jungkook nod from the corner of your eye.
“I can do it,” he states in a tiny voice, making you whip around in surprise.
“What?” you yelp.
Jungkook shrugs in response, starting to reach over for the kit before leaning back in pain.
You let out a small noise and quickly move the first aid kit next to him so he can look through it to find whatever he needed.
You reach over again, lifting up Jungkook’s shirt higher and gently press the wet washcloth around the gash to wipe away some blood while he continues to dig in the box.
“Ow ow ow,” Jungkook whines, leaning away from your touch. “Be gentle! You’re putting too much pressure on it!”
You roll your eyes. “Shut up you big baby. This wouldn’t be hurting if you hadn’t gotten this cut in the first place.”
A few beats of silence go by as you finish up cleaning it up a bit and grab a swab and pour some alcohol.
“After this, you can do whatever it is to treat the wound,” you mutter, as you timidly tap against the cut with the swab. “My knowledge is limited to disinfecting with alcohol swab.”
Jungkook’s abs that you’ve never seen before and definitely refuse to oogle at right now, clench at the sting of the disinfectant as he weakly breathes out an okay.
“Are you not going to ask?” he asks, eyes gazing at you curiously as you focus in on the cut.
“Will you able to answer all of my questions?” you sigh, hopelessly.
Jungkook eagerly nods as you glance up at him.
You let out a breathy laugh at his enthusiasm and shake your head.
“Well, first things first,” you state, ignoring the way Jungkook nervously chews his lower lip. “How’d you get hurt?”
Jungkook hesitates as if he were having an internal conflict then sighs. “Do you want the truth?”
You look up at him confused, retracting the cloth and gesture for him to start stitching himself up. “I mean. . . Yes? Why would I be asking if I’m expecting to hear a lie?”
Jungkook busies himself with the spool of thread and needle, looking away from your pointed gaze.
The curiosity eats you up and you decide that you can’t hold it in any longer. “Are you Spiderman?”
Jungkook whips his head over to you, eyes blown wide, not having expected any word of Spiderman to ever be leaving your mouth.
“Uh,” Jungkook’s eyes dart away as he seems to realize that there was no way you were going to believe him if he tried to deny it after limping in bloodied up in your apartment at four in the morning.
“Yeah. . . No point in denying it now,” Jungkook half-heartedly laughs with a sigh.
“That’s for sure,” you sigh, quietly watching as Jungkook grabs the stitching tools to patch himself up. You shudder as he goes through the movements as if they were second nature. How often did he bleed out like this?
“How’d you know?” he asks, trying to distract you from watching him suture the gash. He clamps down his teeth to make sure no sound of any pain leaks out through his lips. If he was alone in his dorm room, he wouldn’t hesitate to hiss, but now that you were right next to him, Jungkook fears to make a sound in case that would be the one trigger point that makes you crack.
You shrug, immersed back in your thoughts by Jungkook’s successful attempt. “How can I not? I mean, I didn’t have a clue in the beginning. But yesterday, you disappeared like every other time and it perfectly lined up with Spiderman’s appearance in the back alley. Then I realized all those times you ditched were followed by another Spiderman spotting at a crime scene. Also, it’s not like your onesie has some kind of voice changer or anything. You should probably consider adding that. What if someone finds out?”
“You found out,” Jungkook states, making you roll your eyes.
“I meant someone like. . . Taehyung,” you say for example. “He would blab it all out to the press.”
Jungkook nods considerably. “I. . . never really thought of that.”
“Wait a minute,” you mutter, recounting the times you’ve interacted with Spiderman. Or - just Jungkook in a red and blue spider suit.
“Hm?” Jungkook hums, patiently waiting for the rusty gears in your brain to turn as he finishes up his stitching.
“You met me as Spiderman a total of three times!? And you still didn’t tell me!?” you ask bewildered.
He lightly chuckles, shaking his head. “I couldn’t.”
You scrunch your nose at his simple response. “What do you mean?”
Jungkook finally snaps the end of the thread, carefully grabbing the damp towel to dab at the now completely stitched wound. “If any of the criminals I fight with find out that someone like you knows my identity, you’ll be in danger.”
“What do you mean ‘someone like me’?”
Jungkook’s hands pause, eyes slightly frantic when they glance over to meet your confused pupils.
“Someone. . . that’s important to me,” he states, trying to contain his emotions from peeking out between his words.
You still, heart slightly beating a bit rapidly.
Oh frick. I’m important to him? ALERT ALERT ALERT. I’M IMPORTANT TO HI-
“What else do you want to know?” Jungkook asks quickly in fear that you would read too much into his words and find out his actual meaning.
You look up in surprise from his sudden interruption of your thoughts and sigh, standing up to sit on the edge of the bed beside him. “Well. . . how’d you even become Spiderman?”
Jungkook sighs, slightly frowning. “Yetrim called me.”
“Professor Yetrim’s internship that you did?”
Jungkook nods. “That was when he explained all these superheroes he was creating in other planets and he wanted to start off with me on Earth.”
“And you agreed?” you ask with shock. The idea sounded quite absurd and never would you have expected Jungkook to willingly agree with the proposal.
Jungkook looks at you with a lopsided smile. “He offered money and a place to stay. You know my family.”
You grow quiet at that. Of course Jungkook would do it. He would do anything for his struggling parents and brother who lived back down in his hometown.
“He gave you the suit and all?” you ask, trying to move away from the sensitive topic of his family.
“Yeah,” Jungkook answers. “And some web-shooters.”
“Web shooters?” you repeat with skepticism.
Jungkook slightly smiles at your confused expression and decides to show you. He lifts up his right arm and presses down making a white, slightly moist substance to shoot out from the gadget strapped onto his wrist.
You gasp, head whipping around to the web that was now stuck onto the opposite side of the room.
“A-And you just fly around the whole city using those!?” you ask, pitch rising as you realize how dangerous it was.
Jungkook slightly winces at your tone. “Yes?”
Your posture slumps over as you sigh in defeat. “Jungkook. I’m. . .”
He looks down, focusing his gaze on the wet towel that now lays limp on the nightstand.
You sigh. “Did you know that you were going to be doing this?”
Jungkook’s brows form a crease in thought. “Yes and no. Yes, I knew it was going to involve some type of interaction with the law since it was the superhero type of thing. But no, I didn’t know it would become my everyday life.”
You hesitate, taking in the way your best friend and crush was weakly leaning against your headboard with eyes turned away from you, stitched up and still bloodied up in the face.
“But I can’t stop, Y/N,” Jungkook states firmly. “It’s hard. Both physically and mentally. But there’s so many people who need help and if I have that ability I can’t just leave them and hope that the police will get to them in time.”
You let silence fall in between the two of you and finally decide how to respond.
“Well, I’m here to help you,” you finally say after an inner debate of what you needed Jungkook to hear. Jungkook looks up in slight surprise, not having expected you to offer him support.
Geez, were you that downgrading?
You reach back over to the kit and grab the Neosporin and a Q-Tip. You quickly squeeze some of the medicine out onto the swab and shift closer to Jungkook.
Jungkook holds his breath, head slightly tilting back closer to the wall as you gently grab his chin and lean forward to dab the small cuts on his forehead, cheeks, and lips.
He takes in your tired but focused form: eyes on the verge of being unfocused and droopy, lips slightly pouted in fatigue, the slight grayness of your eye bags, and frizzled hair.
“I would say to not be that whole spiderman thing and take care of yourself, but,” you pause, looking up into Jungkook’s doe eyes that stare back at you with fondness and hope. “People do need you.”
Jungkook slightly grins as you look away slightly flustered and remove your hands from his face.
“Just. . .” you sigh, hands fiddling with the frayed edge of your bed sheet. “Make sure you’re getting enough sleep.”
“Okay,” Jungkook responds with more energy.
“And keep up with your studies.”
“Of course.”
“You can ask me for notes, or others in your class,” you add. “There’s so many people willing to help.”
Jungkook hums, eyes observing the way your brows are furrowed as your thoughts get deeper.
“Get home as quickly as you can after one of your. . . missions or whatever you call it,” you continue, turning to give Jungkook a look. “You’re still human. Be care-”
Jungkook cuts you off with his shoulder blade, muffling the last of your words as his strong arms firmly wrap around your waist in a hug. You hear him sigh, making a shiver run down your spine as he slightly adjusts himself so his chin rests comfortably on your shoulder.
You force the stiffness of your limbs to relax and let your body go nearly limp in his arms, your arms going around Jungkook’s body as well.
This was new.
“Thanks,” Jungkook says, barely over a whisper.
“For. . . For what?” you stammer, hoping that he couldn’t feel your rapidly increasing heartbeat.
Jungkook breathily laughs. “For everything. Thanks for letting me in your apartment and letting me get patched up. Thanks for not being furious with me. Thanks for caring.”
The edge of your lips quirk up into a smile as you pull back from the hug. You find it odd how Jungkook’s arms hesitate, pulling away with reluctance as if he didn’t want to let you go.
You push that idea out of your mind, convincing yourself that you were once again, overanalyzing every single movement.
You poke Jungkook’s cheek, making him pull the face he always pulled whenever you treated him like a kid. “Of course, Kook. What are friends for?”
Jungkook’s expression slightly falls, but before you can ask what’s wrong he hums, reaching up to ruffle your hair messily.
It suddenly triggers a memory of him in the red and blue suit, tucking a loose piece of hair behind your ear with a flirty laugh.
“You know you’re awfully confident when you’re Spiderman?” you blurt, eyes narrowing as Jungkook smile confusedly.
“Really? How so?”
You shrug. “You’re just flirty I guess.”
Jungkook pauses, a slight smirk gracing his lips that were slowly getting closer to you.
Wait what?
The sheets rustle as Jungkook completely leans forward towards you, making you instinctively lean backward, hands propping up behind yourself to support your leaning body.
“I mean it’s not like I can flirt with you without a mask,” he murmurs bluntly, shocking you by his sudden confession.
“What?”
Jungkook’s eyes slightly widen as if he just processed what he said. He decides to ignore it and instead rushes up onto his feet, only to groan and slightly hunch over in pain.
“Jungkook!” you gasp, scrambling off the bed to tentatively hold onto his arm to help him towards the door, the previous interaction pushed to the back of your mind.
He shakes his head, gently waving you off, trying to get you as far as possible so you don’t see his hot, red cheeks. “I’m okay. Just a sting. I’m gonna crash on the couch if that’s okay.”
“No!” you say in a scolding tone, forcibly dragging him back to your bed. “You’re literally in pain! Sleep here tonight. I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
Jungkook opens his mouth to protest but you rush out the room before he can breathe out a word.
You sigh as you head towards the cabinets near the bathroom where you kept the extra sheets and pillow. You throw them out onto the couch and plop down into the cushiness of the fluffy blankets, snuggling into the surprisingly comfy couch.
Shifting, you stare at the warm glow your nightstand that was still on in your bedroom, your mind recalling Jungkook’s words he blurted out just a minute ago.
You shake it off, turning away from the light and shutting your eyes closed, ignoring the hopeful fluttering sensation in your chest.
All you thought about as you drifted off to sleep was how Jungkook was Spiderman.
Your best friend and the man you think you may love was the city’s hero.

Then he takes it.

Allston Christmas by Gruoch
summary: “You guys didn’t have to do this,” Peter says from where he sits squeezed into the middle seat of the U-Haul, sweat running down his back. The air-conditioning in the truck they’ve rented is broken, and even with the windows rolled down it’s hellishly hot inside. “Really. I could have handled it myself.”
“We wanted to,” Tony replies as he blasts the horn at a minivan with a “Harvard Mom” bumper sticker that is attempting to cut into his lane. “It’s like a little trip down memory lane. It’s nostalgic—it’s gonna be fun. Right, Rhodey?”
“Absolutely,” Rhodey agrees, with all the enthusiasm of a man being lead to the gallows.

summary: Peter’s professors all seem to know Tony. Instead of calling Peter out for turning in the odd piece of homework late or getting distracted in class like they might do for anyone else, they give him pats on the back in hallways and tell him fondly that, “Tony must be so proud of you, following in his footsteps.”
Tony wouldn’t be, though. Not if he knew how much effort Peter was having to put in to keep his head above the water.
He just wants Tony to be proud of him.
He has to work harder - that’s the only way.

Irreconcilable by sahiya
summary: “We’ll still be friends, right?” she said, frowning at him over slightly grainy video on his phone. “We said we’d always be friends.”
It sounded unexpectedly plaintive, coming from her. Peter swallowed. We’ll always be friends had seemed easy to promise back in August. It was harder now, with the sting of rejection so fresh. She’d tried to tell him that it was about her, about how she had changed, but he knew it was about him, too. He wasn’t what she wanted.
“Yeah,” he said dully. “Yeah, of course.”

You’ll Be Here (in My Heart) by seekrest
summary: The morning that Tony’s life changed forever began as his days usually began now — shuffling into the kitchen half asleep, going through the motions as he searched for Pepper’s favorite coffee mug.
Tony stifled a yawn, grabbing the Black Panther novelty mug she adored while he grabbed one that Morgan had made them years ago - one that made her now cringe with embarrassment anytime she saw him use it, the childish scribbles that made him laugh.
He sets Morgan’s creation down on the countertop as he reaches for the Black Panther mug, it being just barely out of reach for when Pepper has put it last.
“Damn thing.” Tony mutters to himself, fingers barely brushing against it before he grabs it - going to set it down on the counter only to be surprised when Pepper walks in from the bedroom, an unreadable expression on her face.
“Morning. You know, you and I need to have a talk about about your choice of mugs. I know T’Challa somehow perfected the cup warmer thing here but you could at least show a little—“
“Michelle’s in labor.”

An MIT Halloween by bethy_277
summary: Coming to MIT had been difficult, having almost lost his mentor when he had snapped to save the entire universe, and Peter had really struggled. If it hadn’t been for Ned and Harley- who he had met shortly after he came back and become good friends with- he didn’t think he would have made it past the first few weeks at school. He had called both May and Tony that first week, hysterical and begging to come back to New York. May had been patient, Tony had been ready to get in his car to drive to him to help him through it, and Harley and Ned had been there and talked him down both times.

summary: There’s a long list of things that Tony would rather be doing at six in the morning that don’t involve carrying his seven year old daughter across MIT’s campus in his pajamas and a hoodie from the university that’s older than the student he’s visiting.
However, when Peter calls in the middle of a Wednesday night, Tony answers. That’s the gig, the only one left that matters now that he’s out of the superhero game.

Morgan points up at the ceiling, where baby June is happily crouched upside-down above their heads, offering them a gummy grin.
Tony looks up at her, hands on his hips. June looks back down at him and babbles nonsensically, clearly delighted with her fresh perspective on the world.
“Hm,” Tony says, rubbing a finger over his mustache as he assesses the situation. “Alright, no problem. I’ll get her down—go grab me a broom.”

On The Edge: A Bucky Barnes Series (Part 4; The Final One)
Tumblr media
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Plot: Everyone has nightmares. You show up to school in your underwear, or you get kidnapped, or there’s a purple dinosaur chasing you around your neighborhood. Those sort of things. But the nightmares that torment the avengers aren’t like that. They’re heroes, they throw themselves in the scariest most dangerous real life disasters in the hopes of stopping them. But they can’t save everyone. Innocent people die. And those images stay in their minds forever. Pictures seemingly depicted from horror movies twist their dreams into terror, you’ve seen them with your own eyes. Because that’s your power. You can calm anyone in any situation with a simple touch of your hand, the only catch, you absorb the panic that has overcome them. The memories, the emotions, the moments you take to keep them calm, become your own. And there’s no one to take them from you.
Warnings: language, gore, weapons.
Characters: Tony and Bucky
It’s funny how quickly things can change. One minute your mind is moving so quickly you forget to keep breathing, next steps aren’t contemplated, they’re acted upon, your actions are only done to get you two seconds further into the future, two seconds longer to be living and roll the dice with death for two seconds more.
Then everything has stopped. You’re moving in slow motion, free falling, everything seems so much heavier, breathing is so much harder, screaming feels like the only natural thing to do and you do. You scream.
“Bucky, Bucky, it’s okay, you’re okay, it’s okay” your words come spilling out. He groans in pain as he chest moves up and down with each labored breath, the space between them lengthening.
“What going on with him?” Tony asks into his suit, panicked, though his words don’t give it away. But you can feel it.
A bright blue hologram falls over Bucky’s body, lighting an alarming red in all the places he’s hurt. There’s more red than blue.
“Right now the most immediate danger to his life is the bullet wound to his abdomen. It went straight through his lung and exited through his back angled down just below his ribs. His left lung is currently filling with blood making it harder to breathe. If he doesn’t receive medical attention immediately, he will drown” the female voice diagnoses. Tony’s breath catches in his throat as he kneels down next to you, eyes scanning Bucky frantically, unsure of what he can do, wiping away frustrated tears before they can fall.
“I...I’ll...We can...I’ll call Bruce. He’s a doctor, he’ll know what to do” said more to himself than to you.
You don’t respond.
“Buck” you cry softly, brushing your hand along his cheek. His lips move to speak but no sound comes out. He tries to lift his arm but any strength in his body is being used to keep him alive, and it’s running out. “It’s okay, It’s okay” you whisper, “You’re gonna be okay. Tony is calling Bruce, he’ll know what to do”
You believe the words, you really do. Or maybe you just want to. It’s hard to tell the difference. Maybe it’s just easier. Easier to believe that the person you love will be okay rather than being taken from you by a single bullet. You were just talking, just okay, he promised you dancing. He never taught you how to dance.
And what if he never gets the chance to?
“You still have to teach me how to dance, remember?” you urge, “We still have to do that. We have to take a cooking class too, one of the cheesy ones couples on tv take. And I’m supposed to teach you the wonders of YouTube, even though you hate computers, they can be fun sometimes. We still have to buy a jukebox and put our favorite songs in it and learn the world’s worst knock knock jokes and get a puppy from a shelter and go to Disney World and eat a whole pack of gum all at once and stay up all night watching movies and you have to teach me how to dance because you promised me! You promised me! You promised me you’d always be here! So you can’t die, okay? You can’t”
And you’re sobbing.
Your shoulders tremble as you lay your head on his chest and cry, the reality of it all slamming against you. It hurts so bad, an aching, never ending, sickening kind of hurt. Because he’s the only good thing in your life you haven’t destroyed. And he’s slipping away.
Suddenly, you feel his hand grasp yours. He holds a smile so faint you wouldn’t catch it if you weren’t looking. His body is weak and his skin cold even through your suits fabric.
“I love you” words strained and tight, but carrying so much kindness, “I promise”
Your tear blurred gaze meets his as his hands slips from yours and his body goes still, chest no longer moving with breaths that have ceased. You search for a pulse on his wrist, finding one so faint you wonder if it’s just your imagination trying to shield you from the truth.
His eyes flutter open and shut as he struggles to stay awake. There’s a cut under his eye that bleeds with every movement, and a forming bruise on his jaw. You know he’s in pain, and the thought that there’s nothing you can do to stop it is too much to bear. So you do the only thing you can think to do. Without hesitation, you feel yourself leaning forward, and pressing your lips against his. A kiss. The first one you’ve ever shared, and the last one he will receive.
Adrenaline has finally run out, and the pain hits you.
Except it’s more than you thought, a lot more. You clutch your side, blood soaking through your suit, blood from a wound that wasn’t there before. You feel blood drip onto your lip as a cut under your eye tears open, your jaw suddenly aching. You fall to the pavement beside Bucky, gasping for breaths that won’t come.
“Tony, I can’t-” your words are cut off as blood fills your mouth. Your chest burns as if being submerged underwater when you know air is all around you. You’re drowning.
“Y/n!” comes that voice. That voice that sends your heart racing and stops it cold all at once. Bucky.
He’s on his knees beside you, panting heavily, any traces of bruises or cuts on his body gone. His suit is no longer stained with blood and his side is healed. It’s as if he was never hurt. Which doesn’t make sense when less than ten seconds ago, his heart was beating for the last time. Now it’s yours that’s failing, your body that refuses to work, your body that is about to die.
Then it all makes sense. When you kissed him, his skin touched yours, your powers kicked in. But for some reason, instead of absorbing his memories, emotional pain, you absorbed his injuries, taking them for yourself.
“What happened? Why am I okay? What did you do?” he cries, hands shaking as he presses them against the wound in your side that won’t stop pouring blood, “Tony, where’s Tony, Tony!” he calls, but Stark is nowhere to be found.
A strange numbness falls over you, hot and cold at the same time. There is no sun, but there is no darkness either. Pain singes every nerve in your body, yet it doesn’t. You exists in a strange middle ground where nothing makes sense, except for Bucky.
“What did you do? What did you do? (Y/n) what did you do?” he repeats over and over again, words cracking into broken phrases. It pangs at your heart to see him so upset. Your Bucky.
There is a terribly heavy weight on your chest that makes words nearly impossible to form. But you struggle anyways, your entire body trembling.
“I did...what I’m...supposed...to do” you mumble, the metallic taste of blood stinging your throat, “I protected...the person...I love...like a real...superhero...”
There is no strength left.
You feel yourself start to become light, as if joining the wind itself as it draws you closer to the warm light that begins to engulf the air around you. You hear voices, ones you know you should recognize, but they are far too distant to make out. So you let them drift away as you are carried upward.
And up you go.
And up.
And up.
Until,
you are gone.

Author’s Note:
I know I started this series WAY long ago, but I had found the draft of the final part here and decided I couldn’t leave the story without it’s proper ending. So here we are. This was a wild series to write. When I started, I didn’t quite know where I was going to take it, but I loved figuring it out along with you guys. Thanks for reading and encouraging me to keep writing! It really means the world.

“Paean to the People” | Directed by Lesli Linka Glatter
Tumblr media
“Paean to the People” picks up right where “All In” left off. Carrie and Anson are speeding through the streets of Budapest Moscow Budapow. In this opening shot, their car is the only one on the bridge, adding to the feeling of just how on their own they are, without diplomatic cover, as they try to distract Yevgeny long enough to get Simone on that plane.
Tumblr media
The arrangement in this shot!! Everyone whose face is visible is serving so much face. Simone is like, “don’t look at me.” Bennet (with facial hair!) is like, “are you fucking kidding me?” Doxie (with some pretty great side eye) is like, “I am NOT getting stuck in Budapow.” And Ms. Pink Scarf is like, “What am I doing here again? What is my job?” You and us both, Pink Scarf. You and us both.
Tumblr media
Let’s give a full round of snaps to Sandy this season. She brought the sassy realness and Russian know-how the whole dang time. This show needs all the female energy it can get and this shot of her pulling out the chair for Clint’s “time out” is incredible. We’re not sure if she’ll be back for season eight, but if she won’t, we will miss her so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Carrie and Anson know what’s at stake in this mission but in this moment, it’s Carrie who has to convince Anson how far she can and will go. We hate to say it, but the moment of recognition shared here between them screams “America First” when Quinn tells Carrie to get in the car and stay down. If seven seasons of Homeland have taught us one thing, it’s that these people all follow the same code: Get in. Get down. Shut up. Mission over self.
Tumblr media
IJLTP.
Tumblr media
We will hand it to the Homeland props department for getting the birthday right on Simone’s fake Carrie Mathison passport (it’s April 5, 1979). But!! Her middle name is spelled Anne, not Ann.
Tumblr media
Simone spent a lot of time obscuring her face from the Russian officials in that car, but this glimpse of her expression after she asks Saul if he’s really going to leave Carrie--the Carrie who CLIMBED A FUCKING ROOF LIKE TWENTY MINUTES AGO TO GET TO SIMONE--in Budapow. That is a pursed lip and evil eye if we ever saw ‘em.
Tumblr media
...And, of course, the guilt is written all over his face.
Tumblr media
We are CACKLING at the dude in the white jacket in the background. We are not sure if he is just a really bad extra or some random stranger who saw Claire Danes in a Budapest train station and needed to share else he was met with a chorus of “pics or it didn’t happen” from his friends.
Tumblr media
Sara and Doxie have the same birthday (November 4), which further solidifies that he is her forever man and the best Carrie Angel of them all.
Tumblr media
We talked about the strong “America First” vibes above and the whole sequence of Carrie running through the train station is giving us heavy “The Smile” vibes, too. After seven seasons, it’s difficult for some moments not to feel like explicit callbacks from earlier episodes. After all, maybe looking at a mirror in a crowded marketplace is just Carrie’s favorite American spy woman move. But this shot, and Carrie’s smile later, are so specific that we think the homage is intentional.
Tumblr media
IJLTP, II.
Real talk though, you really get a sense of the loneliness of the office here, as Beau faces away, back to the camera, surrounded by those heavy curtains.
Tumblr media
Lesli Linka Glatter is a choreographer by training and she’s talked before about the diligent preparation she does before directing a Homeland episode. In sequences like these--filmed, acted, and edited with such specific clarity--that training and preparation come through loud and clear. Every shot has a purpose and we’re exposed to all angles of the action. It really is like a dance.
Here, the slow reveal of Yevgeny coming around the corner ratchets up the stakes as Carrie waits, a sitting duck in the locked room.
Tumblr media
And here’s our duck. What’s so great about thrilling and suspenseful action sequences like this is the human moments they’re contrasted with. We can see the fear in her face as she contemplates whether to go down in a blaze of glory. She’s not made of steel. She may only have seconds left to live. She may be a hero but she is not a superhero.
Tumblr media
Yevgeny delivers a BudaPOW (sorry, we couldn’t resist) with his punch to Carrie, but her moment of defeat is quickly transformed into one of triumph with the news that Saul and his “package” have achieved lift-off.
This smile, guys. Damn. Claire Danes is in a class all her own.
Tumblr media
Delirious, glorious laughter. When was the last time we saw Carrie laugh?
It doesn’t last long, of course. The first rule of Homeland is that if Carrie smiles, shit’s about to get fucked up. “At least she had this moment,” we all whisper quietly to ourselves.
Tumblr media
The shots of Saul looking down from his window at the city of Budapow--Carrie in it God knows where, the proverbial needle in the haystack--are powerful. He has left her there. And now he has to get her back.
Tumblr media
We love this shot of everyone arrayed out like this, watching Simone’s testimony in The Room Where It Happened. Though we would like to point out that it’s hard to take Bennet seriously without facial hair. Dude, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere. Get on it! (Also there are so many VESTS this season! We count two in this shot alone.)
Tumblr media
IJLTP, III.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the sequence of shots after Keane says she’ll do everything she can to get Carrie back. There was some chatter about going to Anson first (looking pensive), then Saul (looking sorrowful), and finally Max, who looks the most doubtful and suspect of them all (and, of course, almost hidden behind the others in the back). Sara actually thinks closing with Max is the most powerful. He’s been by Carrie’s side, through thick and thin, all seven seasons of this show. And after the trauma of losing Quinn last season, it’s easy to see how history may be replaying itself for him, this time in agonizing slow-motion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So many “Pilot” vibes. This show loves playing with reversals and bookends, and having Carrie be the prisoner now is one of the most stinging of them all.
Tumblr media
Sara would just like to say that she even looks beautiful in a Russian prison.
Tumblr media
The book Carrie’s reading here is called Where Avon into Severn Flows, which is actually a short story by the American writer Harold Frederic and part of his book The Deserter and Other Stories: A Book of Two Wars.
Here is the opening paragraph of the story:
“A boy of fifteen, clad in doublet and hose of plain cloth dyed a sober brown, sat alone at one end of a broad, vaulted room, before a writing table. The strong, clear light which covered him and his work fell through an open window, arched at the top and piercing a stone wall of almost a yard's thickness. Similar openings to the right and left of him marked with bars of light a dozen other places along the extended, shelf-like table, where writers had now finished their day's labor, and, departing, had left covered horns of ink and cleansed utensils behind them. But the boy's task lagged behind fulfilment, and mocked him.”
It’s easy to see the parallels. Carrie is held in a Russian prison, also dressed in plain, ill-fitting clothes. She sits in a broad, vaulted room with a plain writing table nearby. Carrie might have won the battle, getting Simone back to the United States, but here in this cell, her success must feel fleeting and the irony of her current circumstance mocking.
Tumblr media
Some major “There’s Something Else Going On” vibes here. (Sorry, we’re just gonna point out all our vibes.)
Tumblr media
We’re just gonna call this pose from Costa Ronin the Yevgeny Lean (#IJustLikeHowHeLeans). On a more serious note, some credit needs to be given to Ronin, who brought Yevgeny to life and made him feel like a fully lived-in person. His habit of leaning back, feet propped out before him, is just one small example, but it’s representative of the care and attention he put into crafting such a three-dimensional portrait of one of the most interesting villains in the series’ history.
Tumblr media
IJLTP, IV.
Tumblr media
And that IJLTP shot of Carrie, alone in that Russian prison with the stakes (i.e., her mental health) now clearly defined, is followed by the rather astounding hero’s welcome that awaits Keane back in the West Wing. This reminds Sara of those tunnels that sports teams would form after a game for everyone to run through. And now Sara wishes Keane had run through the tunnel, high-fiving everyone.
Tumblr media
It’s Tie Color Time! Note that Beau is now back to the blue tie, having resumed his position as Vice President.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talk about sweet karma. The scene between Paley and Keane is remarkable for a few reasons. First, Paley does all the talking. Keane doesn’t even give him the respect that comes with a response. He lowers himself to his knees, literally begging for her mercy.
Keane is often shot from below, highlighting her stance and power. But here, it’s a point-of-view shot. We see what Paley sees: this woman, whom Saul once claimed could not “rise above her own vindictiveness,” closing in on him, a bird of prey who’s finally made her catch. And then she spits in his face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Washington Monument, which sits due east of the Reflecting Pool, adds great dramatic effect to this beautifully shot (and scored) moment after Keane leaves her meeting with Paley. Despite the monument’s great size, in these shots its height matches Keane’s, which is likely intentional.
As the monument was being completed. Joseph R. Chandler, a Freemason and member of the House of Representatives said:
“No more Washingtons shall come in our time ... But his virtues are stamped on the heart of mankind. He who is great in the battlefield looks upward to the generalship of Washington. He who grows wise in counsel feels that he is imitating Washington. He who can resign power against the wishes of a people, has in his eye the bright example of Washington.”
As she drives back through the DC streets at night one last time as President, she’s clearly at a crossroads. History has its eyes on her. (We will also continue to make ALL the Hamilton references.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’re not sure if this moment was scripted or if it was a choice by Claire in the moment. Either way, what’s happening? If she praying? Thanking God? Carrie’s relationship with religion and atonement has been basically nonexistent since the show devoted attention to it in season five. We wonder if, like Brody before her, she may be discovering--or rediscovering, as it were--it while in captivity, a salve for her inevitable isolation.
Tumblr media
A few things to note from this headstone:
It’s the tenth anniversary of Andrew’s death.
Are we really meant to believe Keane is old enough to have had a kid in 1979? Elizabeth Marvel was born in 1969, which means she’s playing at least ten years older than she actually is. Sara does not buy this, but whatever.
Andrew is born mere weeks before Carrie, which in hindsight kind of shifts the relationship between Keane and Carrie in season six. Carrie really could be Keane’s daughter, and if Carrie indeed did see her in some small part as a mother figure, it frames her conflict with Saul last season--and the battle for Carrie’s loyalty--in an even sharper light.
Tumblr media
This is just a gorgeous light, the rows of headstones filling the bottom half of the screen and the large, overgrown tree framing Keane in the top half. It’s her figurative “moment alone in the shade” (figurative because she’s not really in the shade, but y’all catch our drift).
Tumblr media
Again, it was impossible to properly capture the moment when Carrie congratulates Aleksandr through anything other than a gif. The quiver in her voice, her attempt at a forced smile. After this moment, the lighting in the room shifts--she is literally forced to see the light, as the direness of her circumstances are fully revealed.
Tumblr media
This is the last time we see Carrie before the “seven months later” coda, so now’s as good a time as any to talk about the truly tremendous work she did this season.
From the opening episode, Claire took us on the tenuous, tumultuous journey of Carrie’s war with her own mind and the battles waged within. Every episode, every moment was brought to life with exacting precision. Sometimes we loved her, and sometimes we hated her, but Claire’s commitment to every moment never wavered, whether it was seducing Dante, having nightmarish visions of her bloodied daughter, or inching her way across that GRU roof.
The throughline of this season of Carrie’s mental health makes this moment and the final scene land with even more crushing weight than they otherwise would. When Carrie experiences a breakdown so harrowing and frightening, she goes to extreme lengths to restore her own sanity. In the last three episodes of the season, we see just how invaluable that sanity is--her mind is both her greatest asset and greatest liability.
Carrie knows here what’s about to happen. She stares, eyes wide open, almost as if she’s glimpsing into the future at what lies before her. There’s no safety net this time, no pills or ECT to pull her back or hit the reset button. But for as much as she knows that she’ll lose her mind (in every sense of the word, it turns out), there is also great uncertainty, looking into “the bottom of a black hole with no walls.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something we find super interesting about this sequence is just how many perspectives LLG gives us of Keane’s speech, whether it’s Wellington’s from inside the Oval, Saul in his office, or Yevgeny in Budapow. Again, LLG’s choreography background comes shining through. For almost the entire speech, we see her presidency--and what turns out to be its final moments--through everyone’s lens except her own.
LLG doesn’t shoot Keane center-frame, without some extra filter of a screen, until the very end of the scene, after the speech is over. Keane talks earlier about wanting to speak directly to the American people, from the heart, but what we actually get is everyone looking at screens, at the filtered version of this woman and her office, a metaphor if ever there was one for her short-lived presidency.
Tumblr media
As her speech (which, like Washington’s Farewell Address, focuses on the need to not let political parties and divisions tear apart the country) nears its end, we do see Keane center-frame. But, again, it’s a shot of her center-frame on the screen, and her appearance is somehow altered and filtered.
(A quick note about her wardrobe: Keane starts the day grieving for her son at Arlington, and she keeps on the same black clothing during her speech, a signal of the impending end of her presidency. The dangling earrings are also an interesting choice, and an unusual one for Keane, who usually wears studs or conservative-looking hoops. Like Carrie in “Species Jump,” this is as close as she’ll get to “letting her hair down,” and the unconventional jewelry choice conveys the peace she’s found with her decision.)
Tumblr media
And now the lights come down on Keane and her presidency, in every sense of the word.
Tumblr media
The dynamics of this scene remind Sara of the end of “The Choice,” when Saul sees Carrie in that hall of dead bodies after thinking she’d died in the explosion. They shared a moment of recognition at the end of that scene, standing in stark contrast to what unfolds here.
Tumblr media
Here’s our first good shot of Carrie, and there’s a lot to take in. The swollen face and unkempt hair are startling, to say the least. Under her bulky black coat she’s wearing white (you can see a peak of her shirt here but her pants--not visible in this shot--are also white), indicating she’s been in an asylum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The season opened with Carrie running on a treadmill, athletic and strong, the buzzy chords of jazz blaring in our ears. It ends with our heroine on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. She’s feeble and unsteady, running away from the Russian guards and straight past Saul. We hear jazz again, but it’s slower and somehow weightier.
As Saul gently brushes the hair from her face and looks into her eyes, calling her name, she is seemingly unable to recognize him. Her eyes dart from side to side, up and down, but his remain steady on her, and we can see (and share) the concern and devastation etched on his face.
She’s searching, and so is he.

Great Lakes Drownings an ‘epidemic.’ Meet a Michigan Man Obsessed with Ending them.
Too few folks appreciate the dangers of the Great Lakes, whose waters kill dozens of swimmers per year. Too few know what to do when sudden currents whisk them from shore.
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — About a dozen middle schoolers clustered on a beach on a recent morning — sun shining, a slight chill in the air. Some looked down at the sand. Others at Lake Michigan, its hypnotic waves washing ashore.
Most appeared to listen as a gray-haired, gray-bearded instructor shared a message that bordered on a plea: Too few folks appreciate the dangers of the Great Lakes, whose waters kill dozens of swimmers per year. Too few know what to do when sudden currents whisk them from shore.
To bolster his point, Bob Pratt, the 59-year-old executive director for education at the nonprofit Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project, launched a quiz.
What do you do if your clothes catch on fire?
Stop, drop and roll, the students answered.
“What number do you call if you have an emergency?”
“9-1-1,” came the reply.
“What do you do if you’re drowning?”
A pause.
“Scream ‘help,’” one boy answered. A girl waved her arms.
“Here’s the thing,” said Pratt. Arm-waving means sinking. Screaming? Not if you’re choking on water. It all happens so fast, he explained. The answer: Flip on your back, float to conserve energy, try to calm down, and then follow a safe path to shore.
A few yards away, a firefighter taught another gaggle of students how to toss an orange life ring to anyone struggling in the water. Across the beach, still more kids learned about lifeguarding from a pair of beach veterans.
For the students of Krueger Middle School in Michigan City, just south of the Indiana-Michigan border, it was a fun, if at times sobering, field trip. For Pratt, a retired East Lansing fire marshal who now leads trainings like this across the Midwest — often camping in his pickup truck –  it was another day in his battle against what he calls an “epidemic” of drownings in the Great Lakes.
Memorial Day kicks off the unofficial start of summer, and already this year, at least 17 people have drowned in the Great Lakes — four of them off Michigan shores.
Last year, 88 drowned in the Great Lakes, bringing the tally to 640 since 2010, according to according to data gathered by the Surf Rescue Project, the nonprofit that Pratt founded in 2007 and now runs with Dave Benjamin, an Illinois native who became an advocate after nearly dying while surfing in Lake Michigan.
The Great Lakes are “really more like inland seas than they are a lake, and they pose particular dangers,” said Pratt, who lives with his wife in East Lansing but spends long stretches teaching on the road.
Pratt, who was named the National Drowning Prevention Alliance’s “Lifesaver of the Year” in 2012, has played a key role in regional efforts to make the Great Lakes safer.
If not a “superhero,” Pratt is certainly a “champion,” said Jamie Racklyeft, who leads the 2-year-old Great Lakes Water Safety Consortium, an Michigan-based umbrella  group for researchers and others trying to end Great Lakes drownings.
“He’s been a lifeguard, a fire chief, he’s been a fantastic trainer of all-ages.”
‘So relentless’
Globally, the World Health Organization considers drowning a “vastly neglected area of public health.” And for decades, the same has applied to the Great Lakes, which hold 20 percent of the freshwater on Earth’s surface and have powerful currents.
In some ways, the mammoth lakes are more perilous than oceans, whose salt makes floating easier. Great Lakes waves are typically smaller than those in the ocean, but they come far more frequently, said Pratt. Survivors of near-drownings describe being pummeled.
“The waves were just so relentless,” said Racklyeft, who in 2012 nearly drowned in Lake Michigan while swimming off a beach 25 miles from Traverse City. “They were 4 and 5-feet tall, every five or six seconds.”
Most drowning deaths are preventable, Pratt and other experts say. He’s among those pushing for policies — more life guards and safety equipment on public beaches, more education for kids — to thwart the problem.
“We need to catch up with the education for water safety,” Pratt said.
Diving for data
In an age where Americans with an internet connection have seemingly endless data at their fingertips, Pratt learned the hard way in 2003 that no government agency catalogues drownings on the lakes that touch eight states and two nations.
That was when he drove his son to Grand Haven for some surfing on Lake Michigan. Greeting them when they arrived: U.S. Coast Guard boats and a helicopter scouring the lake in search of a body. The park was closed, Pratt recalled, leaving a small clutch of people on the beach — law enforcement and presumably family members — awaiting news about their loved one who would end up dead.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t the first time Pratt, a poor swimmer until taking lifeguarding classes while attending Michigan State University, had witnessed such a search. That day in Grand Haven got him wondering: How many people had drowned on the Great Lakes? Some Googling and other poking around led him nowhere.
“Believe it or not, nobody knew,” he said.
The Centers for Disease Control tracks and categorize all deaths across the U.S., but its data doesn’t shed light on how many happen in the Great Lakes. The National Weather Service tracks Great Lakes incidents specifically related to dangerous currents (12 fatalities, 23 rescues on average each year.)
And Michigan state health data show 125 accidental drownings statewide in 2016 in any water.
Today, Pratt’s group keeps a comprehensive database of Great Lakes drownings. It includes those who die shortly after a rescue — from conditions clearly caused by their struggle in the water –  but not obvious suicides. He scours news reports and other official sources for data, and sometimes gets tips from friends or others on-the-ground. Armed with the information, he can tailor his message to those who most need to hear it.
Tumblr media
From the data he knows:
Great Lakes drowning victims are overwhelmingly male —  Pratt suspects they’re more prone to showboating or carrying out dares.
The majority of drownings happen near the shoreline, typically involving bathers, kayakers, paddle boarders or surfers.
Life jackets save lives. Only seven of the drownings since 2010 involved people wearing life jackets, and most of those were due to cold waters.
Not surprisingly, drownings tend to spike when the weather is warm and waves are high, conditions more likely to drive people to the beach.
Some 296 of the documented Great Lakes drownings since 2010 were in Lake Michigan, with a significant share along its southern shore — largely, Pratt said, because the lake has so much usable beach and relatively high populations nearby.
That’s 10 times the death toll from the 1975 wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, the Lake Superior freighter immortalized by Canadian songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. Lake Michigan in each of the last two years has seen 40 or more drownings.
An online relationship
Pratt founded the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project in 2007, in association with theGreat Lakes Surfing Association. As he dug into data, he also trained surfers and attended a slew of conferences.
Along the way, he met Benjamin, a longtime surfer, through postings on an online surfing forum. After organizing a few safety trainings together, they fully teamed up at the nonprofit.
“It’s one of those successful online relationships,” joked Benjamin, who manages projects and handles public relations.
Benjamin poured his energy into Great Lakes safety after nearly becoming another Lake Michigan casualty in December 2010, shortly after his 40th birthday.
Knocked off his surfboard and fighting a current in 35-degree water that felt like razor blades through his wetsuit, he held onto what he thought was his final breath. But as a whirlwind of thoughts churned in his mind, one memory stood out: an article by Mario Vitone, a sea survival expert.
Benjamin remembered to flip on his back, inflate his lungs and float.  About 40 excruciating minutes later, he managed to crawl back ashore.
“After that drowning accident, it’s just like borrowed time,” Benjamin said. “Another way I phrase it is ‘this is what I have left to do.’”
For both men, their work is a labor of love and some frustration. Both believe Great Lakes-area governments should invest more in water safety.
“Millions of dollars are spent each year to bring more people to water, with billions of dollars in return,” said Benjamin. “Yet when something happens, we blame the victim or the parents or caregivers, and we don’t fund anything.”
Neither Pratt nor Benjamin draw a salary. The nonprofit raised $83,000 last year, including the donation of a truck, Benjamin said. This year, it’s holding many of its trainings in Indiana thanks to a $50,000 matching grant from the state.
Benjamin pays his bills through commercial painting, though he says he’s rapidly losing contracts as he spends more time on the road. Until recently, Pratt, who retired from the East Lansing Fire Department in 2012, did lawn care to supplement his income.
That’s partially why, instead of paying for a hotel, he camped out in his truck the Tuesday night before teaching the Krueger middle schoolers earlier this month at the lake he respects so much.
“It’s such a big, beautiful body of water,” he said. “But it’s also so dangerous.”
