“Wonwoo,” Mingyu sighed in frustration. “You’ve missed the freaking turn three times already. We’ve been circling this block for twenty minutes.”

“Mingyu, with all due respect, please shut up so I can see better.”

“I’ll shut up when you finally make the –” Mingyu was cut off by Wonwoo making a sharp left turn and he grabbed the handle above his window. “Oh my god, this isn’t Mario Kart, use your brakes.”

“Well I made the turn didn’t I?” Wonwoo huffed at Mingyu as he readjusted his wheel. Thankfully, the streets weren’t too busy at this time of night. Wonwoo glanced over at Mingyu who let out a chortle of disbelief.

“I guess that’s true,” he admitted.

“So why was everyone being so weird earlier?” Wonwoo asked, referring to the weird shift in events that occurred when he stopped at Joshua’s house.

The question seemed to catch Mingyu off guard as he let out a surprised cough. “Weird? What are you talking about?”

“I’m talking about why Seungkwan seemed to be hauling your ass to the front door, and how Seokmin suddenly got food poisoning less than half an hour after I called him,” Wonwoo said flatly, glancing over at Mingyu, who was staring outside of the window, pretending to be interested in the empty and clear night sky.

“Oh that? You know Seokmin has IBS, he’s really sensitive about it,” Mingyu replied a little too quickly.

“Okay…” Wonwoo dragged out. He very well knew that Seokmin did not have irritable bowel syndrome, having eaten many meals with him.

Mingyu turned back around to face him. “Why did you only ask Seungkwan and Seokmin to go with you?” he asked in return.

Now it was Wonwoo who was caught off guard. “Well, they’re uh… they’re the most entertaining people to roadtrip with.” The words left his mouth a little too quickly and Mingyu responded with an unconvinced nod.

“Oh, I’m sure Soonyoung would be happy to hear that,” Mingyu teased. Wonwoo rolled his eyes with a huff.

“What are you doing right now?” Wonwoo asked as he noticed Mingyu rummaging through the glove compartment of his car.

“Looking for snacks,” Mingyu replied, as if it was obvious. “I didn’t get a chance to eat dinner.” As if on cue, Wonwoo’s own stomach began to rumble. He hadn’t really had the chance to eat all day, choosing to spend all of his time planning this surprise rather than making meals. He was slightly annoyed, but saw that they managed to make up for some time and had a bit of lee-way before they needed to be at the airport.

Without looking down, he reached down and handed his phone to Mingyu. “Look for a fast-food place and we can grab something to eat.” Mingyu hummed in response, unlocking Wonwoo’s phone.

“Uh, Wonwoo,,” Mingyu announced, looking up from the phone with a hint of panic. “You have a lot of missed messages and calls from your roomie.”

“Shit,” Wonwoo cursed under his breath. At the next stoplight, he grabbed his phone back to check the messages, and sure enough, there was a slew of notifications all from you.

neighbor 💩 (8:10 p.m.): wonu where r u rn

neighbor💩 (8:10 p.m.): if you’re out can u pick up mcdonald’s pls, i’m craving chicken nuggets

neighbor💩 (8:13 p.m.): nvm, i think i actually want taco bell

neighbor💩 (8:15 p.m.): OR ACTUALLY, isn’t it guy’s night? Can u bring home some of the soup jun makes? it’s the only thing keeping me sane rn

neighbor💩 (8:35 p.m.): Why is my dad calling and asking me where you are

neighbor💩 (8:37 p.m.): Why is Seokmin saying you’re not at Joshua’s house and that you and Mingyu are taking a roadtrip together

neighbor💩 (8:39 p.m.): if you are with Mingyu tell him to answer his phone before I find him and leave him stranded in the woods myself

(3) Missed calls from neighbor💩 8:40 p.m.

Neighbor 💩 (8:50 p.m.): wonwoo i swear to god… i can’t believe you didn’t tell me my dad’s coming in!!

Neighbor 💩 (8:51 p.m.): u better be driving safe… that’s precious cargo

Neighbor 💩 (8:52 p.m.): anyway i haven’t decided if i’m mad or happy that you planned this whole thing without telling me… find out on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z

“By any chance,” Mingyu started sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck as he looked down at his own phone. “Is this supposed to be a surprise?”

“That’s correct,” Wonwoo confessed, setting his phone down as the light turned green once again. “It’s supposed to be a surprise.”

“Well, not anymore,” Mingyu said sheepishly.

Wonwoo looked at him, eyes wide with panic. “You told her?” He asked loudly.

Mingyu raised his hands in defense. “I didn’t know! You know I’m terrible with secrets,” he pouted.

Wonwoo took a deep breath, calming himself down. “It’s fine,” he said. “It’s fine. I mean, it’s fine. It’s fine right?”

Mingyu nodded back. “It’ll be fine,” he echoed. “At least we’re almost there.”

After a half an hour, the boys finally arrived at the airport.

They were greeted by the familiar figure waiting at the curb with an excited smile and a friendly wave. As Wonwoo pulled the car into a stop, he took a deep breath before getting out of the car to help his guest load into the car.

“Wonwoo!” your dad exclaimed as he pulled him into a warm hug that Wonwoo wasn’t really expecting. “Nice to see you.” He peeked over Wonwoo’s shoulder to see Mingyu waving to him from the passenger’s seat.

“Mingyu, is that you?” He asked with a cheerful smile as Mingyu nodded sheepishly. He too received a hug through the window, before entering the car himself.

As they headed home, the three boys in the car found themselves in pleasant conversation as they caught up on life.

“How’s your application going, Mingyu?” Your father asked from the back seat.

Mingyu hesitated, looking out the window as he finally answered. “I uh, I sent it in last month. Just waiting to hear back from them.”

As if noticing a shift in Mingyu’s demeanor, he switched his focus to the boy in the driver’s seat. “What about you, Wonwoo? What are your plans for next year?”

Just like Mingyu, Wonwoo hesitated before answering. “I think I’m going into education,” he exclaimed, as if the words surprised him as well.

“Oh education?” Your dad hummed thoughtfully. “Your dad always thought you would go into engineering or something science-y. What made you decide on education?”

Wonwoo smiled as he replied. “A good talk with a good friend.” He didn’t miss the way Mingyu looked at him with an eyebrow raised, but decided not to mention it.

An hour later, Wonwoo pulled into the driveway and put his car in park. He hadn’t even opened his door before the back seat passenger door was being swung open and he heard your voice ring in his ear.

“Dad!” you called, pulling him out of the car and into a warm embrace. As Mingyu and Wonwoo got out of the car you immediately latched on to both of them as well, surprising Wonwoo. Maybe hugging runs in the family? He thought.

“Wonwoo,” you said firmly, now pulling away from him. Your eyebrows were furrowed together and your eyes looked glassy and— were you mad?

“I’m so sorry, I’m sorry, I’m— I thought it would be a cool surprise and I—”

“Why are you apologizing?” You asked incredulously. “This is the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me.” Now you had wrapped him into another hug, but Wonwoo let himself relax, relieved that you weren’t pissed off at him.

Before he could say anything else, you had already moved on to Mingyu, joking with him about how he sucks at keeping a secret, and inviting him to stay just a little bit longer before heading home. Mingyu nodded sheepishly, even after seeing the 11:57 p.m. blare at him from his phone screen as he checked the time.

Wonwoo bit the inside of his cheek, thinking to himself that it was weird for him to find your mix of emotions and giddy excitement so endearing. However, he found himself still leaning against the car, in awe that he managed to pull this surprise off. Part of him felt like the protagonist of a Hallmark Christmas movie, moving heaven and earth for the girl he lo–

Wonwoo let out a cough, not letting himself finish the thought.

As he watched you drag Mingyu into the house, Wonwoo found himself alone with your dad who was still gathering the last of his things from the trunk.

“Oh, let me get that for you,” Wonwoo insisted as he grabbed one of the bags.

Your dad thanked him as he shut the trunk, turning to face Wonwoo but making no effort to move toward the door of the house.

“Wonwoo,” he called, his voice much softer than it was at the airport. “I’m guessing she’s the ‘good friend?’” he pat Wonwoo on the shoulder as he nodded sheepishly, looking down at the ground.

“Let me give you some advice, kiddo. Don’t think too much, life is so much better when you don’t.” With that, he also made his way inside, leaving Wonwoo alone in the icy chill of the night.

What did he mean by that? Wonwoo thought. I think a healthy amount, no more and no less, in fact, if I wanted to stop thinking right now I could. See? I did it. For a whole 5 seconds I stopped thinking. Or maybe he—

“Penny for your thoughts?” Wonwoo’s ears perked up at the sound of your voice. You walked over to where he was leaning against the hood of the car, looking into the night sky.

“I’m not really thinking about anything,” Wonwoo shook his head. “At least, nothing important.”

He looked down as you handed him a blanket.

“Well if you’re gonna sit here and think about nothing important, you should at least stay warm,” He unraveled the blanket, placing one side around his shoulders and extending his arm as an invitation.

“Join me for a bit?” Wonwoo surprised himself as he asked the question, and had to resist the urge to tense up when you shifted closer and allowed him to wrap the other side of the blanket around your shoulder.

Thankfully, the silence that followed was peaceful, and when you broke it with a quiet voice, he found himself leaning closer to hear you.

“Thank you,” you whispered.

“For what?” He asked, giving you a gentle nudge, inviting you to speak up.

“For everything,” you answered. “For every late night study session, for bringing me back tea and croissants when you go to the cafe, for bringing my dad here. I feel like you’ve done so much for me, and I’ve just been kind of… a parasite since the beginning.”

Wonwoo felt his heart lurch at your words. A parasite? How could you think of yourself that way?

Your father’s words echoed in his head once again. Stop thinking so much, he told himself.

So he turned to you, and told you exactly how he felt. “You’re not a parasite, you’re a catalyst.”

You scoffed out a laugh, playfully punching him on the shoulder. “What does that mean?”

Wonwoo rubbed his arm, pretending to be in pain as you rolled your eyes at him. “It means,” he began. “That the moment you walked through that door, everything changed.”

“For the better, I hope,” you added.

“Well, for reference, I was finally invited to one of Seungkwan’s exclusive karaoke parties. He said I’m a lot more fun these days. I even sang a song.”

You raised your eyebrow at him in curiosity. “Oh? What song?”

He shook his head, refusing to tell you, until you poked his side and he all but fell. “I am the Best by 2NE1,” he admitted in embarrassment. “Don’t laugh.”

“I’m not laughing, I didn’t laugh,” you said with your lips pursed tightly together, trying hard to fight a chuckle. “What did you score?”

“100.”

“No way.”

Wonwoo nodded sheepishly as you finally let out your laughter.

“Okay, okay, I believe you,” you relented. “The Wonwoo I met in August would have vomited at the thought. I guess I may have rubbed off on you a little.”

“See? This is a symbiotic relationship.” Wonwoo chuckled.

“Alright, alright,” you relented, pulling the blanket off yourself and turning to extend your hand to Wonwoo. “Now let’s head inside so we don’t freeze.”

A cozy meal and a few board games later, the clock read 4 a.m. and everyone was starting to lose it. Your dad had turned in two hours ago, after the first round of Monopoly ended with you claiming total domination and Mingyu and Wonwoo going bankrupt. After you begged your father to stay up, he promised he would only take a nap and that he’d be up by seven a.m. to get breakfast with you.

Still full of energy from the day’s excitement, you forced Mingyu and Wonwoo to stay up with you to play a round of Catan, only for you to be falling asleep halfway through it.

“Mingyu,” Wonwoo groaned sleepily as he lazily dropped the dice out of his hands. “Make us more coffee–”

He was cut off by Mingyu slapping his hand over his mouth. “Shhh.” Wonwoo sat up and slapped his hand away. “She’s finally knocked out.”

Sure enough, your soft snores were coming from the couch as you lay there peacefully, giving Wonwoo and Mingyu time to finally escape. Mingyu got up first, trying his best to move silently.

“I’m gonna make a cup of coffee before I head out,” Mingyu whispered to Wonwoo who nodded.

As Mingyu headed to the kitchen, Wonwoo tried to stand up carefully from his spot on the floor in front of the couch you were on. He didn’t make it very far before he heard you.

“Stay?” your voice came out with the softest puff of air, and he wondered if he imagined it.

If Wonwoo had any more self control, he would have walked away.

But when you reached your hand out in search of his, how could he bring himself to leave?

So instead he knelt back down beside you and decided that once again, he would stop thinking and let himself be in the moment. And in that moment, he was well aware of how his heart hammered against his chest and how his lips were quirked into a smile. Have you always been cute, or was the lack of sleep finally getting to him? Chalking it up to his sleepy deliriousness, he allowed himself to be just a little reckless.

He looked down at where your hand was still in his, and with his free hand reached up to brush a hair out of your face, his hand freezing when he felt your hand twitch in his. Your face grimaced just a little bit at the disturbance and he finally let out a breath when it settled back into a look of peace.

“Sleep well,” he whispered out before giving your hand one final squeeze as he pulled away, taking note of how cold his hands suddenly felt. He balled his hand into a fist and quickly opened it again, aware of all the blood rushing back into his fingertips.

As he stood to drape a blanket over your sleeping figure, he noticed Mingyu had returned from the kitchen.

“She’s out,” Wonwoo informed Mingyu who nodded back absent-mindedly, not quite looking at him. “Do you want a ride back to Joshua’s?”

“Hmm?” Mingyu hummed before finally turning to Wonwoo. “Oh, no it’s fine, it’s a short walk and the weather is nice tonight.”

“You sure?” Wonwoo asked with his hands in his pockets, stifling a yawn.

“Yeah,” Mingyu nodded back with a small smile. “The coffee woke me up.”

Wonwoo relented and walked Mingyu to the door before finally making his way into his own bed. Against his better judgment, he found himself replaying the few minutes you sat outside with him, looking at the stars.

He let out a sigh, reaching for the book that rested on his side table, Pride and Prejudice, untouched since the day he read it at the cafe. However, he did not grab the book itself, but rather the bookmark that kept his page – a pink envelope still sealed, addressed to him.

Maybe one day I’ll open it, he thought to himself. But not today.

And with that, Wonwoo slipped into a deep slumber.

Maybe I’ll dream of you.

ok SO the headspace changes DRASTICALLY like every few months or few weeks or so. Just a week ago it was a copy of the house we currently live in. We like,,, grew up in this house so it was Also our headspace for years as a kid and we had the vibe tht it was. The exact headspace frlm back then too bUT WE never did get to find out bc it changed AGAIN like a few days ago. smh. Now i think we're just above & outside of The Cave™™™™™ tht was discovered here earlier this year. WHICH IS REALLY FUCKING COOL! BECAUSE THAT MEANS:

Hi Hello it’s Val

Flirted with someone by accident today and when they clocked it I froze up. Lots of Stuff going on with that. Biggest issue is that I am incapable of being normal and my nervous system responds to “hey I think we r flirting right now” with “ahaha I’m in DANGER. Leave the scene!!” So my instincts are all fucked up. And my “think about it on purpose instead of feeling it out” is also all fucked up bc I Have Self Esteem Issues.

Anyway do you have advice for “body won’t treat flirting like a normal human activity and instead thinks we’re being Put In Danger”?

Honestly I’m a huge fan of “fake it til you make it”. Roll with that shit. Ignore being scared, put your mind on autopilot, and just act.

One time during opening night of our middle school play, two of my classmates started getting changed for the wrong scene. My best friend and I went out on stage and did what our director taught us to do: just make shit up and roll with it. I don’t know about her, but I was scared shitless. But we just made shit up until our classmates came on stage so we could start the scene.

Another time my best friend and I were on stage and we had a scene where we went out in the audience and then hopped back up on stage.

I, being 5’1”, of course had a difficult time with this, and it took me 3 attempts to get on that stage from the floor, during which I actually pissed myself a bit. But that’s showbiz, babey. I just rolled with it and kept going.

You just gotta learn to override that anxiety and function on autopilot like you’re acting on stage. The more you do it, the more natural it becomes.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

17 in all, plus some that that i wrote in high school, orphaned, and probably could find again but simply have no desire to.

honestly i am not good at undeniably angsty endings; a lot of my MCU stuff had a running theme of "nothing every really gets better" but also was heavy on the comfort parts of hurt/comfort. recency bias aside, i'm inclined to say snapshot of a morning, 1954 is up there for the absolute lack of resolution for BJ's ennui and borderline anhedonia

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

probably kotenok, arguably the cutest. it's "bucky gets a cat: the fic!"

ah....yes and no? i'll write sex scenes in a work, but not so much porn for porn's sake. i have a google doc of some indulgent paragraphs that i've written in the dead of night but those are for my eyes alone

god. i have this whole contrived resident evil AU that i write for as the mood strikes me but the gist is "leon is unwillingly transferred to the BSAA after the events of RE6 because it's not great governmental optics for your best agent to seemingly go rogue and kill the president"

i like my prose! I have what i know is a very consistent writing style and tone

i'm far better with it in original fiction, funnily enough, but when it comes to fic i tend to loiter and meander SO much. this scene only needs to be a few hundred words to move things along? you're getting quadruple that and none of it will ultimately contribute anything to the plot. i LOOOVE to be verbose. read my words boy

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i do it in english, for however much sense that makes -- if it's from the speaker's pov or that of someone who understands the second language, i'll use something like:

"Here's a sentence in a different language!" Character exclaimed in, unexpectedly, an enthusiastic ramble of Non-English Language.

if the POV character doesn't understand the second language, i'll just use a "Character said something in Non-English language, far beyond the comprehension of POV character, and the conversation had moved well on by the time POV character could ask."

i quite frankly have never once used any end-notes "translation guide," i think it's greatly counter-intuitive to a reading experience, and especially so for any non-latin scripts. sorry but it just doesn't work for me! for little foreign words, especially nouns, which cannot be directly translated, i'd use the native word and then define it best possible in the work then keep the ball rolling

okie so ur guy finally got around to watching Bare : The Musical (mouse!! why?? because!! I love comparisons <3) and anyway. thought I’d document my thoughts

tldr; I think I would like Bare: The Musical as a standalone story, but as a Bare: A Pop Opera adaptation/re-interpretation I think it falls short in a lot of ways.

it gets a bit long so under the cut, if you wanna skip the dot points i summarise/reiterate down the bottom of the post

okay no but the photographic memory detail is kinda interesting. kinda sad in a lot of ways too if you think about it

the audio quality is Not It so forgive me if I don’t pass judgement on any of the songs

“Jason you act every day.” “I didn’t fool you <3” they’re cuties // they are SUCH goofballs here! they’re so dumb! teenageboycore if there ever was! I love them <3

it’s so WEIRD to hear a lot of these lines out of order / in a different context

ALSO the lack of singing during auditions is throwing me off

actually no this is a crazy interesting take on Matt & Ivy and I’m OBSESSED with the way we get to see Ivy’s actual introspection on it in this context

i feel like they definitely tried to recycle a bit of the early versions of the Father Flynn storylines for Father Mike here - like they don’t explicitly go for the queer angle but it feels a little bit alluded to, imo

oh. okay. it was certainly A Watch - definitely interesting! full of odd character choices I didn’t love, most notably the basketball team and the way that side plot played out, also the merging of Nadia & Lucas’ characters. I think it does a huge disservice to Nadia’s character, the McConnell twins relationship, Nadia & Peter’s relationship, & I like Lucas as a character (& a plot device) so it really feels like a lose-lose situation. And I would’ve liked to have Peter’s mother at least alluded to, especially given how much more Sister Joan seems to fill a motherly role (and it would’ve made sense thematically! Given his hypothetical conversion with Jason’s mother in You & I, coupled with Diane’s whole spiel about her mom being her best friend - it’s a missed opportunity imo) (even tho as established for this characterisation of Peter it’s not quite so necessary)

that said! credit where credit is due - I am supremely intrigued by the characterisation of… okay most of the cast now I’m thinking about it. Would definitely like to do a comparative character breakdown (let me know if anyone else would care for that at all).

Emo puppy dog Matt Lloyd you are so special (it’s such a silly way to play him!! the show all but eliminates the academic part of his and Jason’s rivalry and THAT makes me sad bc I think it would be so so interesting to play into the rivalry more with this Matt and this Jason - but the way Matt & Ivy’s relationship exists in this version of the show, the absolute lack of any academic focus At All [which?? like they are At School, that SHOULD count for something] and even the play part feels somewhat lacklustre in so regards to the Matt vs Jason element, which again I think is a mark against B;TM)

as I said above - I think I would like Bare: The Musical as a standalone story, but as a Pop Opera adaptation/re-interpretation I think it falls short in a lot of ways. Which is another point - it’s so so crazy to me that The Musical is the adaptation of the Pop Opera, not the other way around. Which kind of sucks! because I think making it into a book musical, not a sung-through show, does give a little more breathing room for character & relationship work and development, but it just seems ill utilised, to the point where it doesn’t even seem to match the Pop Opera, let alone improve/expand on it. Because all the extra dialogue time had to be spent on reordering the story beats so we ended up losing time with the characters in a way.

or at least that’s how it read to me - obviously I am not a professional reviewer/critic so don’t take my word for it, I just wanted to talk it out. or shout it out into the void, as my tumblr may be. if you read this whole thing?? shoutout to you, I love you <3

i'm so sorry for how nonsensical this might be but entertain me for a second here because i think you're maybe one of the only daemon writers who might understand where i'm coming from,,, anyway i'm pretty sure (unless i'm remembering incorrectly) that there's a scene in ilibitsos where we see babey deal with sub-drop, right?

so tell me why i'm now stuck on the thought of daemon and how he 100% deals with dom-drop (or whatever you wanna call the dom equivalent). he's such an emotion heavy guy and that, combined with his emotional constipation (which matches his literal constipation), probably leads him down the path of destruction to dom-dropping.

it would have to be after babey does something to make him worry - which, at this point, her doing anything without his prior knowledge seems to do the trick- and worry is something daemon typically expresses with anger. so let's say the reader pulled some shit where she went and done something that daemon, rhaenyra and basically everyone told her explicitly not to do. when she gets back, daemon's in one of his "gah im so angry i need to stab her womb with my flesh sword" moods (never thought i'd describe a cock as a flesh sword but here we are). so he's taking her from behind, either with his hand shoving her head down into the mattress or pinning her down to whatever surface he's bent her over and he's going at it. like, poor babey is definitely gonna feel it for a few days after. and he's just spewing his usual depravity, barely lucid of the fact he's slowly switching from calling her an ill behaved whore to ranting about how worried he was, how she needs to apologize for not letting him get a wink of sound sleep, how he hates how weak it made him feel to know she was in danger and nothing he could do would take her away from it. until, eventually, everything he feels- in his heart, not his cock- becomes too overwhelming and he just needs to stop. babey's smart so she obviously notices the switch in energy immeadiately and she's calling out to him, trying to turn around and get a look at him but he's not letting her. he's just... staring at the back of her head, hands slowly loosening the iron-tight grip they had on her hips and switching to caresing her skin, feeling that she's physically there. when babey finally manages to turn herself over and face her sweet tortured husband, he's frowning like he's angry but staring at her like she's the finest porcelain that'll smash if he's not careful with the way he touches her. he won't talk, can't talk, but that's okay cause she understands him even when he says nothing and so she gives him what he really needs, craddling him in her arms, soothing over his back with her hand, whispers of i'm okay and i'm right here, kepus and you can't always keep me safe but you'll always lead me home thrown upon deaf ears as daemon does his lil sad boi forehead touch and just melts into her, taking in her smell and just taking in the fact she's present beside him, letting himself finally feel all those dark, heavy, suppressed emotions he pushed down all those days she wasn't by his side.

and ahhh wtf did i just write, i'm so sorry this was genuinely meant to just be a short enquiry onto daemon and his possible dom-dropping but i started writing it and then this happened instead. i hope this wasn't overstepping any boundary or anything like that. all this to say, big slay, loved the first chapter of the pregnancy fic, excited for the possible future return of murderer-core daemon once the dance hits.

Hey! Yes, there is a scene that deals with sub-drop, and it's probably one of the few things that I know about dom/sub dynamics, to be honest haha!

And wow, this is such a good analysis of Daemon's whole come-down, it's like you shoved fingers inside my brain and wiggled stuff around and produced something really cool from half-assed fragments lying around in there, lol. His default is totally anger; it's what he vibes with whenever he has the Big Feelings, even if he's more upset, or worried, or afraid. He gets the Big Angries instead, haha! But oh, vulnerable Daemon hit me in the feels with this one - I fucking love it. Thank you so much for sharing this with me, I DEFINITELY need to start a new tag called 'daemon writing notes' so I can keep this on FILE.

Never be concerned about overstepping boundaries, I'm so fucking flattered that my silly fic was even worth the time it would've taken to type this out! Socks Reviews POTO Stockholm 2016 Act 1

Old!Raoul looks dead. He's barely looking up at the auction items. The guy holding the monkey music box is staring directly at the camera and he looks scared. Swedish occasionally sounds close enough to German/English that I am getting confused as to what language I'm watching this in. jfc everything was so quiet and then the music is so loud This is a really nice shot of the chandelier rising. A couple light flashes synchronised with the drums. Honestly this looks so much cooler than when I saw the show on Broadway. Clearly I need to invest in a pair of opera glasses if I'm going to go to see any more shows that come my way because I always end up sitting in the way back.

This Piangi is a tiny king The way the slavemaster snapped the whip right behind the one manager and made him jump XD This Piangi forgot his sword on the ground and had to wave madly for someone to hand it to him. The camera work for this is so steady. Way to go, filmer. Piangi looks so into Carlotta when she's singing Think of Me. King behaviour. The one manager stops the other when he starts clapping early. The fallen backdrop has only been raised partway and there's three guys who keep looking under it and just interacting with each other behind it. Excellent. Raoul is blonde and looks so babey Meg sounds like a teenager. Christine sounds, well, older but not old. And I love how their voices sound together. One is a bell, one is a chime. The phantom is angry here, I actually jumped Oh and we're back to the nasally tone at "I am your angel of music" damn it Joback, you gave me hope and immediately let me down. He does sound better on the bridge. Let's see how is MOTN goes. How tall is Joback? he's barely taller than Christine oh that was an energetic cape removal, and a fairly decent self-caress He certainly is touching himself a lot during MOTN. Like his chest and stomach. And hips. Not. elsewhere. Okay that was a great high note. Why can't he sound like that all the time? Decent sprawl. Glad we could see it. But it looked like Christine had second thoughts about kissing him, rather than noticing anything that might have stuck out about him 😏 Another hip stroke jeez my dude Christine flinching when he starts crawling toward her is great. It's not his face at this point, it's how Weird he's being. OH OH He reaches toward her with his right hand, and exposes his face for several seconds and she just stares at him before slowly looking away. And she looks directly at him again when she returns his mask. This Christine is fantastic. Raoul is so much taller than everyone. lol Meg almost tripped running up to announce the Phantom of the Opera, and that looked like a struggle for her to run offstage No screaming of "the BALLET" here but he did run into a couple of the dancers. Ooooh we got to see an extra cape twirl from the shadow phantom in his last appearance. Usually he just fills up the entire backdrop but this time he swished the cape and then ran off to the left. Witness it here:

Christine's rooftop cape is either white or a very pale shade of blue. Her countess dress is also very pale, and I love it. so much better than the radioactive cupcake tint she wears in other productions. Chrstine sounds great. It's an AIAOY so I guess R/C fans will be happy. Okay that was a very gentle kiss. Very nice. They sound great together! Sad man time! That is a very small angel statue. This guy barely does the minimum. Sadder! More emotion! At least he shouts. Safety harness spotted.

i think the only thing that stays the same is roy-mirabelle swap and associated eliwood-euphrasie swap lol

anyway if i had to pick fe6 characters to put into isat it would be

mirabelle = roy

bonnie = lugh (or raigh tbh)

odile = cecilia because i dont like niime

isabeau = wendy

siffrin = idunn

and king = jahn

listen man is being sealed for 1k years and being trapped in a timeloop for however long the same thing. isn't it.

can you IMAGINE for me please the act 5 siffrin fight except idunn just goes demon dragon. that mental image alone makes me jgbgkhn

idunn in particular is just kind of the perfect fit cuz initially she has Nothing Better To Do also. she only follows zephiel in canon cuz he got to her first and she's so broken that she listens to whoever.

esp considering ascended idunn in heroes... idunn who wakes up unsealed but instead of someone exploiting her she saves somebody at random and gets adopted into the group and treated like a person and that growth she has in the true end epilogue + as ascended idunn just gets kickstarted way earlier... and all she can recall of her own past is Darkness and Being Alone and she'd be so terrified to go back to that.

also jahn as the king obviously cuz they are Both Dragons and the dragons / arcadia would be stand in for the forgotten country. so jahn would still have a similar core motivation of "he's big mad the dragons got axed" but instead of a big war it's just. Nobody Can Remember. and we have an added layer here in that nobody remembers dragons. so idunn and jahn barely even know their own species in this scenario. like, maybe in battle jahn actually takes his dragon form but nobody knows what a dragon is so they assume this is some sort of magic.

also idunn gets the horror of realizing she's not even human. surely that'd be good for her psyche. obviously backstory stuff would be tweaked so since there's no war she didnt get her soul destroyed and her behavior is cuz of the total amnesia like how siffrin was just Aimless and didn't even make puns before meeting the squad.

i realize now that whoever i put in the isabeau slot creates an absolutely hilarious idunn ship. i dont ship idunn with anybody except recovery but the potential of wendy/idunn sounds like a riot

speaking of wendy i WOULD want someone from ostia in the isa slot cuz it just tracks the most to have ostian knights = defenders if pharae = dormont. yah. makes sense right.

wendy in particular is my choice cuz a) she's just the most memorable of the armor knights b) she already has body image issues in a lot of her supports so i think isa's whole narrative suits her well... she deeply admires the knights yet in this scenario the knights failed to stop a threat because it wasn't a threat to ostia and maybe that conflicts with her ideals of knighthood...

do you get it. obviously these are all different angles than the canon characters but that's the fun of AUs babey!!!!! It's not canon!! how WOULD they behave in this scenario and setting!!

odile n bonnie r complicated in that who i'd pick depends on who the other one is. for bonnie one of the araphen orphan trio feels obvious with lucius = nille, but which of them is. hm.

like if i went odile = niime bonnie would SO OBVIOUSLY be raigh. raigh-niime support chain replicates that dynamic well of niime's favorite is absolutely this random child. she thinks he's so funny. and niime is a good fit for odile too cuz both are Super Curious abt everything and (old). the main problem is i dont like niime very much because of the. (i stare into the distance) child abuse allegations. you know.

so my other pick for odile is cecilia. cecilia works well in that she'd be non lycian first so she has that aspect of odile + she's much more sociable than niime. she is also more sociable than odile please read her saul support she's so funny actually. cecilia to kids is obviously a teacher so she's a very caring figure but to other adults she is often a little shit. great contrast. but she also treats the younger side of the cast with the respect they deserve like she does treat roy as an equal because she sees that he's strong enough to handle this and she steps away from guiding him to be his own indepentant person so she's not patronizing. she'd also be a little shit to her friends if they're younger cecilia can be fucking hilarious dear god. she WOULD have a memory of first strike moment 100%.

if i pick cecilia for odile i would pick lugh for bonnie instead cuz you can have her take him under her wing since they're both anima mages as cecilia does with lilina in canon yeah.

as for backstory she wouldnt have been roy's teacher but she would've been around ostia so when roy and wendy set off to kill a dragon by themselves as a teacher she can't let kids die do you get it. the entire isat squad would be pushed down in age on account of fe6's child soldier problem but also i do imagine that cecilia is like. mid thirties at least and she's still comparatively much more mature than the rest of the cast. (who are all 15).

tbh this kinda makes lugh as bonnie more hilarious cuz roy and wendy are both like 15 and lugh is 13. two years apart. lugh is also just Way Shorter which makes him seem younger.

with lugh you have the same narrative of a initially cheerful child grappling with the grief of a sudden loss. honestly in canon i think lugh is the wildest of the trio cuz he swings wildly between sunshine boy and I WILL AVENGE MY FATHER. also in a lot of his C supports he's handing out pastries to people which is like how bonnie cooks for the group :) he's experiencing this depth of emotion he cant grapple with outside the childish notion of revenge and everyone around him struggles to accept that this Kid is facing the horrors of war. you see.

maybe the roy mira pick is just Blatantly Obvious To Me but both of them are Massive Imposter Syndrome. they both seem like chosen ones when they were really just in the right place at the right time and coincidence snowballed into saving the world. they're super insecure as a result cuz this is a MASSIVE burden they never expected to bear and the character development involves rising up to the occasion and seeing that it doesnt matter if they were chosen, they are here now, and they can do it.

euphie eli swap is more an extension of that as both are the central figure that everybody expected to save the world instead, who were stopped from doing so by external circumstances (i.e. being frozen first and eli's chronic illness + the bandit attack on pharae). both roy and mira flounder without the guidance of their key parental figure (housemaidens said to have raised mirabelle, eli is literally roy's dad). a lot of the main goals of the protags here is Getting Back so roy wants to end the war to return to his father (who is not LITERALLY frozen but its the same sense of "i cant return until this is done but i so dearly want to") which mirrors how much mira wants to save all vaugarde yeah but also specifically euphie and the guilt she feels for letting euphie down.

tldr. do you comprehend my vision. the real fun part of any AU is mixing lore like. if you just do a 1 to 1 swap what is even the point. you gotta adapt the characters and lore of the first thing to fit the second thing and still comprehensively resemble the second thing in some way but all the finery is different so you've still created something interesting and fresh to play with

which goes back to the differing characterizations of wendy and idunn in this scenario because the there ARE major differences to backstory and lore to make them fit the isat character roles which obviously changes how they develop even if they carry the same core traits ideals and personality.

like look at my fucking awakening shrek au this isn't shrek anymore but it still RESEMBLES shrek in structure enough to register AS shrek au even if the shrek-donkey dynamic is wholly different in chrom and lissa being siblings and the characterization of chrom is neither like shrek at all or like his canon ver yet it has TRAITS of his canon ver (chrom's sense of duty to his family and country, his complex feelings toward violence, seeing himself like a monster, etc) which are amplified by the situation (made into a literal monster and socially isolated for three years) so it's still like "i could imagine chrom behaving this way" but he doesnt in canon cuz in canon he has a support system to prevent him from reaching that low point in the first place

do you get it. do you see the appeal of making AUs. do yoh comprehend my vision of fe6 characters in shrek.

also i didnt mention loop cuz loop is. you cant just assign someone to BE loop because of twohats unless you already have media with a similar deal (if this was an awakening au instead siffrin would be robin and loop would be grima which works because grima is just a different version of robin to begin with)

so for loop as an alt idunn i'd imagine siffrin idunn has the divine demon fit whereas loop idunn is full dark priestess mode. and this iteration of loop instead of being cheerful and sarcastic and kind of mean would be more somber and pessimistic a la "i am alone in the dark." "you are alone in this loop. but... at least you have me, to guide you through the darkness."

since this ver of idunn would've gone thru the positive development of sif idunn but then regressed back to her previous self in feeling like she can never truly be free and is doomed to eternal loneliness but she still wants this other idunn to have the happiness she lacks she still fundamentally dreams of a warm wind blowing through. and after that she'd be content to fade away knowing the world she dreams of exists somewhere anywhere at all but then sif idunn pulls her out and we have a very "you remind me of him" moment to parallel fe6 true end where roy carries idunn out of the crumbling temple that trapped her.

this has been both my stance on AU creation in general as well as fe6 characters as the cast of isat
