you intensively listened to the sharp ticking of the clock, waiting for something that'd break the cycle. for someone, actually. for your precious girlfriend ellie, which had a patrol somewhere around jackson. you stayed quiet, listening intently for any signs of her. the sounds of the clock in the background seemed to taunt you, like a reminder of how much time was passing and you had to wait even longer to hear news from her.

it was something about midnight when she finally came knocking on the door, completely soaked in freezing rain. her hair was wet, her face drenched, she looked miserable. you rushed to get a towel to help her dry her hair and body.

when you were done you wrapped your hands around her. she hissed and you instantly pulled away, giving her a pout of pure worry and concern. your eyes inspected her body, without effect. your hands reached out for her top, wanting to take it off and look for any injuries, but she firmly gripped your wrists.

"babe, stop." she said, and maybe you'd listen to her, if her voice didn't sound like begging. and if she begged, she was hiding something.

you freed your hands and rolled her shirt up, revealing a nasty wound on her side. it looked like bullet scratch and it was a miracle - a few millimeters to the left and the shot would pierce her waist.

ellie mumbled a quiet 'fuck...' as her attempt to hide it from you failed. she did her best to look unfazed and pretend to not be in pain, knowing it'd only add to the embarrassment.

ellie sighed and pulled your hands away from the wound, pushing you back. she took a deep breath, the pain evident on her face, and rolled her shirt back down.

"it's fine, i'm fine." she falsely reassured, her shaky voice betraying her attempt to sound tough. she forced a weak smile, trying to play down your worries, but you could tell she wasn't okay.

"ellie, you're bleeding!" you shook your head, your eyes darting back and forth from her wound and her face.

you dragged her to the bedroom, taking a first aid kit from the bathroom on the way. she stayed silent as you softly but forcefully sat her on the bed and started preparing everything.

"this will... sting a bit." you warned her before looking at the disinfectant. you knew it'll do way more than just 'sting a bit'.

ellie avoided looking at you, hating how vulnerable the whole situation makes her feel. she gritted her teeth as you started cleaning the wound, trying to maintain her composure as best as she could. you could hear her breathing get heavier as the pain began to set in, but she was too proud to let you see her cry.

as you continued to work, she looked away from you, ashamed that you had to fix her mistakes. she knew she should have been more careful and hated how weak she appeared in front of you.

"i'm sorry for making you do this." she murmured, her voice barely audible.

ellie sucked in a sharp breath and clenched the sheets as you applied the disinfectant. a wave of pain washed over her, but she managed to stay silent and hold back a scream.

you finished cleaning the wound and began to bandage it, being careful not to hurt her any further. as you worked, you heard ellie sniffle as she struggled to hold back her emotions. you looked up and saw that ellie is watching you with a mixture of gratitude and embarrassment. her eyes were glistening with unshed tears and she was biting her lip to hold back a wail of agony and relief.

"thank you..." she whispered, her voice breaking.

"don't mention it." you said, your eyes full of sympathy for your suffering girlfriend. you gave her a reassuring smile, best you could manage as her pain hurt you too.

ellie took a deep breath, trying to compose herself as the pain subsided, but she couldn't hold back her tears any longer. she buried her face in her hands as she sobbed bitterly, her whole body shaking with emotion.

you gently wrapped her in a hug, holding her tight to give her some comfort. you whispered reassuring words in her ear, trying to calm her down.

"it's alright- sh, shhh..." you stroked her hair in an attempt to provide some solace. "i'll always be here for you, love."

her arms desperately seeked for support in your body, as her tears slowly dropped and soaked into your shirt.

"how can i keep you safe if i can't even take care of myself?" she mumbled, her voice muffled as her face was pressed against your chest.

you continued to hold ellie in your arms, trying to provide her with the comfort and reassurance she needed.

"you're always taking care of me, and now it's my turn to take care of you." you whispered, gently stroking her hair.

ellie looks up at you, her eyes full of gratitude. you feel her embrace tighten as she clings to you for support.

"my strong, amazing els." you smile, giving her a gentle kiss on the forehead.

you held ellie for what seemed like an eternity, neither of you wanting to let go anytime soon. as you continued to cradle her in your arms, you could feel her warm tears running down your chest, now even beneath your shirt.

you felt her begin to calm down, her sobs easing up and her grip on you gradually loosening. suddenly, she pressed her body against you even tighter, almost like she was afraid of losing you after you've provided her with such comfort.

"i love you." she whispered, burying her head in your chest.

you continued gently stroking ellie's hair, unable to stop smiling at her confession.

"i love you too." you whispered back, as if you just shared a really important secret with her, hugging her tightly.

you felt her relax, her body going limp as she nestled into your chest. it felt like time has stopped, and the two of you together in the moment was all that mattered.

you pressed your forehead against ellie's, looking deep into her green eyes.

"always, forever." you added, before sharing your first kiss in a long while.

“Oh honey, I’m home,” a sarcastic modulated voice rings out from the balcony. You don’t even have to look up from your spot on the couch to know it’s Jason.

“Don’t ask me where the redheads are,”he continues, “Thing one and two are off doing… fuck if I know.”

His voice is tight with irritation and poorly disguised pain as he all but limps into the living room.

Your eyes widen at his state before your mind settles into work mode.

“Shirt. Off now,” you say, jogging to the bathroom for the med kit stashed under the sink.

“No warm welcome, huh,” Jason teases as he tosses his helmet to the ground. He hisses as he tugs off his shirt, exposing the bruise-littered expanse of his musculature.

“I’m fine,” he rumbles, “No life threatening cuts or nothin’. Just…” he trails off with a sigh as you apply the cold antiseptic to his wounds.

He shuts himself up, despite the quiet whines of discomfort clawing at his throat. He watches you work as he fights the urge to snake a hand around your waist and keep you there, pressed snugly into him.

“Just one more,” you mutter, tapping at the gash near his jaw, “Wonder Woman bandaid?” You ask, looking up at him with those big doe eyes.

He grunts in confirmation, eyes flitting from your form to something off in the distance.

“Let me kiss it better,” You coo as you press the bandaid to his jaw.

Jason frowns as he looks around the apartment’s living room. It’s dark and empty, save for the two of you.

“Thought we couldn’t do the whole PDA thing in shared spaces,” he rumbles, a smirk playing on his lips, “You’re breaking the rules.”

“Fuck rules,” You hum, “No one gives a shit about rules.”

You press a kiss to Jason’s jaw, right next to the bandaid.

“Fuck rules,” Jason parrots, slinging his strong arms across your hips.

You kiss the J shaped scar on his face before standing on your tip toes to let your lips ghost the yellowing bruise under his eye.

He exhales, watching you intently as you press feathery kisses down his bruised neck and collarbones.

His eyes stay glued to your lips as you kiss the now-scarring wound on his shoulder.

“Yeah,” Jason airily murmurs to no one in particular, “No one gives a shit about rules.”

only did the first mission but here are my thoughts so far!!! (hsr 1.2 spoilers below)

so first of all not mission related but WHOOPEEEE i got so lucky on my blade pulls i’m so happy <33

anyway tingyun being POSSESSED and possibly being dead is absolutely insane the scene where her neck snapped had me in shock. but according to the dialogue this means we never knew the real tingyun? watch real tingyun be an npc or something

the dan heng lore had me SHOCKED as well. you mean to tell me blade’s ex is actually dan heng’s previous incarnation dan feng and dan heng is just shouldering the burden of the punishment for what dan feng did??? that is so fucked up. i really hope they elaborate further on what dan feng did because we definitely don’t know the whole story yet and everything surrounding him is so angsty i need to know more!!!

speaking of dan heng though his imbibitor lunae form is soooo beautiful i need him. starting to save right now!! his kit was so fun as well in the trial we got of him. he really parted the sea like moses why is he strong as hell. crazy…

also i think it’s really silly that blade showed up just to stab his ex. he really had a nice little fight and then kafka was like are u satisfied? and he was like Yeah and then they left. that is so funny to me. blade is just a silly angry little guy i love him so bad

anyway on a more serious note i really hope dan heng doesn’t leave the express. it’s way too early for us to say goodbye to a member of our trio!! but there seems to be a lot of foreshadowing of him picking between the luofu and the express. i really hope he stays with us though he’s my favorite member in the trio and it just won’t be as fun without him.. i mean his whole character arc is centered around rebirth and starting anew so surely he’ll stay with us and decide the luofu is where dan feng belonged but not dan heng… surely…. right…? unless he pulls an uno reverse on us all and says he understands the importance of his responsibility to the luofu and he stays with them… please don’t take dan heng away from us though… </3

anyway i’m super satisfied with the pacing of this mission and i’m super excited to continue with the next part tomorrow!! it’s been a crazy ride so far. it’s like 5AM now though so i should definitely be trying to get some sleep. time flies when you’re going crazy on a gacha game. will post more thoughts tomorrow when i do the next part most likely!!

Dusk Till Dawn

A mission goes wrong and you have nowhere to turn but Bucky.

Pairing: Bucky Barnes x female!reader

Warnings: Blood, fluff

It was 9:33 PM on a Monday night. Bucky was missing you, too much for his own good. He’d spent the last hour with the neighbor’s dog on the stoop of their apartment building, just talking about you. The words he’d left you with were all he’d been thinking about for three days; I love you, and I’m scared. They were shitty. They were the absolute last words he should’ve said before a mission like this one. Like, what kind of person says that before the other person is about to go risk their life? But he’d felt so compelled to say them when he helped you into your tactical suit for what might be the last time. And he was waiting for SHIELD to tell him whether you were alive or dead. But maybe he wouldn’t have to wait much longer.

He was sitting on the couch, un-tying his shoes, and he heard his doorbell ring. He eyed the gun in the umbrella stand, wondering if he should grab it, and stood up. He saw the top of a head through the window at the top of the door. Yours. His heart was calm for the first time in days as he opened the door. You were standing there, in tears, clutching your stomach with a bloody hand. You were wearing your black tactical suit, but it didn’t hide the blood that was dripping onto Bucky’s front step.

“God, dammit,” Bucky hissed. He put a hand on your back to usher you inside, hearing only a sob in response. You were wet from the freezing rain outside and lifted your head full of wet hair. There was blood coming from your mouth, too, and when you stumbled across the threshold you nearly fell. Your body was cold to the touch from the lack of blood – Bucky assumed most of it had trailed from whatever car you got out of up to his apartment.

“I need you,” you whimpered. Whimpered. He’d never heard you sound so scared before. Bucky looked down at your waist, trying to find a spot that wasn’t hurt, and placed one of his hands below your shaking one. He grabbed you with his metal arm and pulled you up into his arms, carrying you into the bathroom. He wiped off the vanity, sending bottles of product flying to the floor, and flipped the lights on. That was when he could really tell how hurt you really were. He was as gentle as he could possibly have been as he took your hand that was fixed on your stomach, peeling it away from your body. There was a gash at least a few inches wide, blood pouring out of it like a waterfall, and when he squeezed your hand all he got was a sob in return.

“What the hell happened?” Bucky asked.

“I wasn’t strong enough,” you responded as if it was just obvious. “Ribs are broken too. I had to fall back.” Bucky put one of his hands behind your head, helping you sit back until your head was touching the mirror. He removed his hand and started working on your tactical suit top, un-doing the clasps until he was peeling it away from your body and you were left in a bloody, charcoal-colored sports bra.

“More than that’s broken,” he said. “Your mouth.”

“Coughed it up. Fine.” He kneeled down and searched through his cabinets until he found his first aid kit from SHIELD, meant for situations exactly like this.

“Where’d you run from?”

“Myself.”

“Why didn’t you go to one of the doctors?” He asked, trying to make the question as clear as he could. “Why did you come to me? I can’t fix you.” You didn’t have the super soldier serum. You wouldn’t be healed in a week. It could take months. Bucky had the dissolving stitches in a first aid kit, he knew how to use them because of mandatory training, but why on Earth did you decided to come to him?

“But you said you love me,” you murmured. “I trust you.” Those words were the ultimate confession, at least in Bucky’s mind. You were telling him you loved him and trusted him and nobody who had survived had said that to him before.

“Then trust me now. This is going to hurt.” He took the hand towel he had sitting on the counter and the antiseptic and poured it on, and after watching your face for another second, he pressed the cloth to the gash. Your hand flew to your mouth to cover a scream. Bucky’s heart fell at the pain you were going through. Your other hand grasped at his shoulder, digging in until half-moon shaped marks were embedded in his skin.

“Make it stop,” you begged.

“I can’t,” he responded. “But I need you to stay awake and I need you to stop moving, okay? Please?” This was the first time he’d ever asked you for anything, and this was the first time you’d owed him anything. You didn’t answer him. Instead one of your hands started playing with the hair at the back of his neck and then he was trying to thread the needle, and then he was being as careful as he could to stich you up. You tried to listen to the rain outside to calm you down, tried to take in the smell of Bucky in front of you. You tried to watch him, but you kept closing your eyes. The bleeding was causing your head to be cloudy, so hazy and heavy that you could barely feel what was going on.

Bucky didn’t know how long he stood there, stitching your skin back together. Then he took gauze and tape and placed it around your bruised torso. He slowly started to undress you, looking up at you each time to see if you would protest. You never did. He turned the shower on behind him, ready to leave you alone, but you grabbed onto his arm with what little strength you had left.

“Don’t leave. Please.” You were all but pleading with him. He was in no position to refuse you for this, for anything.

“Okay.” So he undressed himself too and got in the shower with you, adjusting it until the water sprayed more on you than it did on him. He did what he could to help you, making sure that his eyes never lingered too long and his hands kept moving. You turned toward him and laid your head in his bare chest, arms resting on either side of your face.

“I’m so tired.”

“Yeah, darlin’, I know,” Bucky replied, pumping a little bit of shampoo into his hands to start washing your blood-stained body for you. You didn’t protest with him when he touched every single part of you, watching as the water turned from dried blood and dirt to clear soap bubbles.

“Go find something to sleep in and I’ll get you some pain meds. And some tea, if you want.”

“Thank you.” You sniffled as he turned off the water, wrapping yourself in a towel. You walked shakily into Bucky’s bedroom, taking his instructions, as he got his tea kettle out. In another few minutes you were standing in front of him, wearing one of his massive shirts. You sniffed and sat down at the small dining table.

“I’m sorry,” you said. “I just… I couldn’t get what you said out of my head. And I was just scared for anyone to see me. I lost everyone, Buck. I was the only person who survived, and…” Bucky sat beside you, took your hands, and squeezed.

“You don’t have to give me a reason why you came to me. All that matters is you did.” He was about to say something else, but the kettle started steaming and he got up to finish making the tea. “How many spoon-fulls of sugar, five?”

“You remembered,” you smiled. He opened a bag of sugar and started putting it into the tea, then put the bag in and walked over to where you were still sitting. “Thanks.”

“Did you report back in before you came?” You shook your head.

“No. I didn’t want to…”

“They’re probably out looking for you still.” He got up again, walking into the living room to get his phone. That was when he called your supervisor, lying and saying that you were asleep. He hung up and took the now-empty mug from you, putting it in the sink to deal with later.

“You didn’t have to tell her I was asleep.” You stood up, walking over to Bucky. “You didn’t have to do any of this.” Bucky sighed and looked down, moving hair away from your face.

“When are you going to get it through your head that I love you?” Your eyes filled with tears upon hearing those words. It had been too long since anyone said that to you, and even though you knew he loved you because he’d said it before, it just hit a different part of your soul that it never had before.

You stood up on your toes and he leaned down, giving you a gentle kiss. Their first. It said everything it needed to say. Bucky could feel the tears on your cheeks and swiped them away with his thumb before finally pulling away, kissing your forehead.

“We should go to bed,” he said. “Come on.” He led you into the bedroom and un-made the bed, letting you slip inside before turning off the light in his room. He shut the door, too, and got into the bed beside you. “Come here.” He moved until your back was against his chest, and his large hand splayed across your stomach to make sure you couldn’t disturb it without going through him first.

“I love you.” You put your hand on top of his, gripping the spaces in between his fingers, and smiled as he gave your temple another kiss.

“I love you too. And I want you to promise me something.”

“What?”

“Promise me that you’re mine.” He was suddenly shy, laying his head in the crook of your neck. His dark hair fell against your shoulder and it felt like heaven. He felt like heaven.

“I promise, Buck.”

1. What did you do in 2020 that you'd never done before? Other than the obvious getting-a-job and other adulting stuff, 2020 was the year of my first cigarette, the first time I had to use eye drops, the first time I got sick for longer than a day, and the first time I tried my hand in embroidery.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don’t make any because I usually get tired of maintaining them after a few weeks. But idk, last night I had an idea that I want to try a new restaurant by myself every weekend in 2021. It’s very self-care-y which is what I need these days, and it’s definitely feasible now that I have my own money. Given my track record with resolutions I’m not expecting too much, but I still hope I’m able to hold out for as long as I can.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? I know a co-worker became a mom this year, but I don’t consider myself close to her. We’re cool with each other, but that’s about it. Her baby is the cutest though.

4. Did anyone close to you die? One of my great-aunts passed away in April.

5. What countries did you visit? I stayed put here. It wasn’t like I could get on an airplane this year anyway. The Thailand and Vietnam trips are going to have to wait.

6. What would you like to have in 2021 that you lacked in 2020? Me back.

7. What date from 2020 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? March 10 (the start of the lockdown); August 2 (my university graduation); September 15 (the breakup and Angela’s birthday); November 9 (my first day as an employee).

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Being able to be strong enough to stay.

9. What was your biggest failure? Self-harm, or blaming myself.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Yeah I got a UTI early in the year, which gave me a week-long fever. I’ve also gotten hundreds of scratches and play bite marks from Cooper since we got him in June.

11. What was the best thing you bought? My embroidery kits! I bought them on a whim and seriously doubting if I’ll ever enjoy it given my previous hatred for anything sewing/knitting; but I’ve already done two templates and I just ordered two more to do during the holiday break. I haven’t gotten much for myself yet because my first paychecks coincide with Christmas lol, but once the gift-giving is out of the way I want to get myself games on the Nintendo Switch, Airpods, and candles.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Andrew has been incredibly supportive and patient, and has stuck by me through the whole year whether I was on top of the world, stressing out over our thesis, or in my inconsolable black hole of sadness. No clue where I’d be without them.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Gabie, at least by August. I don’t know anyone who consistently let me down in the last 12 months.

14. Where did most of your money go? Christmas gifts for others; for myself, Starbucks coffee and pastries.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Graduating college and sharing my graduation photo with everyone. I remember also having been super excited to work on my birthday gift for Gab, which was to make a short video for her using iMovie (which I had never touched before until then). I was the best fucking girlfriend. Also, getting Cooper!!

16. What song will always remind you of 2020? Not sure. Music wasn’t a big part of my life this year. Maybe Why We Ever by Hayley Williams? I put it on repeat too many times in 2020.

i. Happier or sadder? A lot sadder.

ii. Thinner or fatter? Said sadness made me lose my appetite and a whole bunch of weight by the latter part of the year. All of my shorts and jeans have gotten loose around my waist, so I’ve definitely felt the weight loss.

iii. Richer or poorer? I’m richer now, but only because I didn’t have a job before and I do now. My family’s finances have taken a blow due to the pandemic, though. I try to help by chipping in for the electricity bill, and buying my family nice food every now and then.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Love myself, appreciate myself, thank myself. All the self-love crap I didn’t think I deserve.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Tolerating bullshit I knew I didn’t deserve but kept going with anyway.

20. How will you be spending Christmas? We’ll be with my mom’s side on the 24th; having family come over to our place on the 25th; and will be going to my dad’s side on the 26th. Gonna be the most hectic three days ever and I’m PUMPED tbh lol. It’ll be the busiest we’ve been all year.

21. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2020? Meh, I just hated the times I made mistakes at work as I hate fucking up in general and looking bad in front of colleagues.

24. What was your favorite TV program? The Crown was, until it got associated with painful memories and I had to put my viewing indefinitely on hold. My favorite show this year would be either Descendants of the Sun or Start Up; both are amazingly good.

26. What was the best book you read? Bret Hart’s memoir was a fun read.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 22 and I just stayed at home with family while my best friend and her boyfriend sent over sushi for me.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2020? Casual and didn’t really evolve too much considering I didn’t go out a lot.

34. What kept you sane? Good Mythical Morning. I owe my life to them. And embroidery.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2020: From a tweet I retweeted: “You keep bad people around you and make excuses for their behavior because if you decided to hold even one person accountable, you’d have to recognize the offenses you’ve ignored and accepted. You’ll realize how much you’ve invalidated your own pain to ensure the comfort of others.” It was a harsh slap in the face, but I needed to hear it.

He let go of her and scanned his eyes over her, she was covered in blood, the most of it being on her clothing was dry but there was fresh blood oozing out of a wound right by her heart.

He kissed her lips softly before scooping her into his arms and laying her onto the bed, immediately darting to the bathroom to get hold of the miniature first aid kit that he knew would be there thanks to Colossus and his safety rules, he returned to her side and tugged her shirt up and over her head gently before tossing it aside.

She half groaned from having to move and he tenderly ran his fingers down her arm, half checking that she was really there and half reassuring her that he was there himself. He washed the wound with a bit of water from the cloth he had wetted and then made sure to use an antiseptic from the bag.

Nathan noticed the wound was already significantly smaller than what it probably had been, considering the dark purple skin that surrounded it, he watched closely as the skin healed itself slowly. He grabbed for a wound covering and placed it on, then put the sticky plasters down to keep the material down; he left his hand firmly on the spot and watched her breathe.

Hayden’s chest was still heaving slightly but he reckoned it was from the shock of being stabbed, especially in the case of someone who hasn’t been able to be stabbed for just over a decade, his thumb gently skimmed over the bandaging. He didn’t dare to look away from her in fear that he was imagining all this, that it was some dream his mind was creating to give him false hope and that he would be startled away by reality.

He stared into her eyes, soaking in every detail he could of her, saving it in his mind for later. Her eyes glowed violet for a brief moment before she sighed and reached out to touch Nathan’s arm, he moved his free hand to run up her arm to finally meet with her hand, he intertwined his fingers with hers and gave her a reassuring squeeze.

Her eyes returned to their beautiful blue that he adored, he moved the hand that was on her chest to the empty space of the bed and leaned over her, pressing his lips moderately against hers to which she complied. When they pulled apart after a few moments she spoke.

“I’m so sorry,” she whispered hoarsely, her eyes brimming with tears.

“Shhhh,” he ran a hand through her hair, then brought it to her face and stroked her cheek tenderly, his eyes never leaving hers. “Not another word, do you hear me?” she nodded a little tiredly.

He kissed her lips again, fervently so, and she felt as though he was giving her some kind of high as she eagerly wrapped her hands around his neck and tugged him closer to her. He moved to hover over her body and deepened the kiss, the desires igniting from inside them; she tugged at his shirt and lifted it to touch his bare back underneath.

He moaned at the sudden touch, they’d never done anything like this together, despite sharing a bed from time to time. They had been taking things slow because of Hayden’s last relationship leaving her insecure and uncertain about how these things worked, adding to it Nathan’s own insecurities about their slight age difference and his lack of partners; and his willingness to wait for when she ready. It was nothing but holding each other close, usually on those nights when either of them experienced their nightmares.

They pulled apart so that Nathan could breathe, Hayden only ever so slightly taken aback by not breathing normally for some time; she took the opportunity to speak up despite Nathan’s words earlier.

“I’m sorry, I’m so, so sorry,” she whispered again.

“No, I’m sorry,” he muttered back after taking a final good breath, “I should’ve been protecting you but-”

“You know damn well that my clone would have killed you, and Hope would be stuck here, knowing some version of me killed her father, there’s no way in hell that I was going to let her go through that,”

He sighed knowing she was right, “I still can’t fully believe you’re here right now,”

“I’m sorry,” she kissed him softly; letting her lips linger as she pulled away, bringing up some confidence in Nathan that he forgot he could have in himself.

“I really need you, now,” he grunted and kissed her roughly before pausing, “If you’ll let me,” she responded only by pulling him into another kiss.

One of his hands found itself tangled in her hair while the other gripped firmly at her hip, hers rested on his exposed skin and she ran her fingers up and down his spine, causing him to moan once again and she smiled in the kiss. His hands moved to her sides and he pulled her up and onto his lap, her legs rested on either side of his hips, she moaned as she felt him hardening against her.

He moved his lips from hers and she gave him an irritated look, he chuckled and pecked her lips, “Don’t worry darlin’ I’m just getting started,” he moved her off his lap and she whined softly.

He moved to kneel behind her as she stayed seated on her knees patiently waiting; he grazed his fingertips up her thighs, passed her hips and along her sides before moving them behind her back. She closed her eyes at the feeling which only drove the feeling in her core to grow hotter. His fingers brushed along the tops of her shoulders before travelling back down, they unhooked her bra and he slid it off her arms and tossed it aside, he pressed himself closer to her backside as he moved his hands up her sides to her chest, his large rough hands cupped her supple breasts easily.

She moaned softly and leaned back into him; he smiled and placed soft kisses from her shoulder all along her width to pass the top of her neck and to the other end of the other shoulder. In doing so he kneaded her breasts subtly, every so often rubbing the hardening nipples and giving them a soft pinch and tug, before rubbing them gently and starting the whole process over again and allowing him to press kisses into her neck.

“Hayden?” he asked while kneading her breasts again, her chest heaving slightly from the arousal of all the precise contact all at once.

“Mm?” she barely managed as she focused her mind back to reality.

“Will you show me all your scars?” he pressed a harder kiss into her neck than previous ones.

“Mm, why?” she asked tilting her head.

“Because I want to show you how much I love every part of you, damaged or not,” he kissed the same spot again softly this time.

“O-okay,” she felt a bit uncertain but he gave her a reassuring kiss on her cheek, her body glowed a dim violet and he moved back slightly to get a better look at her, his eyes widened slightly at how many overlapped and were clear purple against some of the unaffected skin.

Her backside for instance, was covered in hundreds of markings, from whippings or beatings no less; he leaned down and placed soft kisses from her lower back all the way to her neck, before moving around and taking both her arms, which were hardly scarred at all in comparison. He moved his kisses from her hands to her shoulders, then her neck, she made soft breathing noises with each kiss that only urged Nathan to continue.

He kissed her neck several times, understanding that it was sensitive from recent injuries from being choked by her brother and her clone, each time softer than the last. He sat further back once again to take in her nude upper half for the first time, she had stretchmarks on her sides near her stomach that was plumper than he expected, with a dark scar across it and smaller stretchmarks around her breasts, and Hayden squirmed a little uncomfortably under his gaze and moved her hands to cover herself.

He caught her wrists and moved them back down, “You’re beautiful Hayden, don’t be self-conscious, I just want to take in every detail I can,” he kissed her firmly on the lips and she relaxed a little and allowed him to continue.

He looked to her breasts once again and realised that they both had dark purple circular markings around the nipples, he glanced at her with a raised brow and she touched her neck nervously.

“Barnes, exceptionally rougher than what anyone wants their first time-” she stopped herself and avoided eye contact.

“It’s okay,” he cupped her face and kissed her softly, “We don’t need to talk about this now, not until you’re ready,” she smiled softly, “I love you, I’ll never hurt you the way he did,”

“You- you love me?” her eyes widened as she repeated the words for herself.

“Of course I do darlin’,”

“I love you too,” she said softly and pecked his lips; he grinned about the fact that he finally got to hear the words said out loud and clearly.

“And I’m honoured that you’d sacrifice yourself like that for me, but can you not do that again, ever?” he teased.

“Oh my God, you actually heard me, and then I- God I’m an awful person, you could do so much better,”

“Thing is, there isn’t anyone better than you Hayden, I told you I’m taking you along with everything else you have, and I meant it. I wouldn’t change a damn thing about you.”

My Thoughts:

I’ve had great results with various products from Clinique, so when I saw this product on sale, I knew it would be worth it. Occasionally, I will browse, out of boredom, on Sephora just to see what products go on sale, and every now and then, get suckered into buying a product because of FOMO. Marketing tactics make us anxious to get a product out of fear that it’ll never be available again, so we need to get it now. Well, that tactic worked with this product, but I didn’t end up feeling cheated or manipulated like some products leave me.

I’m not sure why Clinique wanted to partner with Crayola, maybe it was just to sell the nostalgia, but the product is the same as their regular colors, just with Crayola trademarked color names. What does that mean for me and everyone else that caught this on sale? Score. That means I got a high-quality product that I know is going to work well for me, without having to pay even half of the price of the traditional colors in their line, all because of some words on the label. What I think that they’re marketing team didn’t take into consideration was that consumers would love the nostalgia behind this, but most grown adults don’t want to look like they’re using over-sized crayons on their face, especially when in public or in a situation that requires formality and high professionalism.

Here comes the double-edged sword: I agree and disagree with those negative reviews online. While I do respect someone wanting to look their best, especially in a situation where they’re wanting to be taken as a serious, business professional, that shouldn’t mean you deprive yourself of something you know will bring you joy, from the nostalgia and from the quality of product behind the packaging. A simple fix to that complaint would be to have a designated lip product that makes you feel empowered and confident for those impactful moments, and use this when you’re at home or just enjoying a casual day. Personally, I almost never use this alone, I like to use this as a preparatory step in my makeup routine to keep my lips moisturized while I do my makeup and I can achieve an easy lip application at the end. One of the things I’ve respected most and love about Clinique is they prioritize skincare, and makeup comes in second, so I feel confident that regardless how this product ends up looking, that my skin is in good hands. Even if I wanted to return this product because the pigment wasn’t as strong as I wanted it to be, I wouldn’t have to worry about having a breakout or other skin reaction because of their track record and integrity to uphold skincare before anything else.

Performance/Wear: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★/5

This is a winner, all-around, for me. There isn’t a single issue I have with this product. The application is easy and quick, and there’s no drag that causes tugging of the skin. This is one of their more-sheer colors, but its still worth having in your kit. I get the immediate gratification from the mango and shea butter benefits as the first application intensely moisturizes my lips, and I can feel the light weight of the conditioning layer on top of my lips, assuring continuous moisture during its wear. Another benefit of this being a tinted balm is you get the best of color added to your lips, without the worries of some lipstick or lipgloss formulas, like bleeding or staining. Yes, the product does transfer, but it is slight and subtle, so worrying about gross smears around your lips from eating or drinking are not a concern here. Since it does transfer, you would have to carry it with you to reapply throughout the day, but that’s a worthy trade-off, in my opinion, for moisturized, healthy lips, that those mattifying formulas don’t always guarantee.

Some of the colors can double as blushes, bronzers, eyeshadows, or luminizers, depending on your skin tone, just keep in mind that the tint is still going to be light, regardless how you apply it in your makeup look. Another great benefit of this lip balm is that there isn’t a scent, which makes it safe for people who have headaches or migraines that are easily-triggered by certain scents.

Since I got in on sale, I’m already doing a happy dance for how great of a deal this was, but even at its retail price, it’s a good deal. My usual lip balm favorite has been from Fresh, but this offers some fair comparison, without the lemonade scent and subtle taste that the Fresh lip balms have in them. Since the formula is thick and rich with moisturizing benefits, a little goes a long way with each application, further extending the value of this product.

I have to give credit where credit is due and it was due yesterday, for this product. I LOVE that they use a twist-up (swivel-up, as described on their site.) tube for their packaging, instead of wood packaging that requires sharpening. With this packaging, consumers get to maximize their use of this product, without having to throw away half of their product on shavings. My only other request would’ve been if they use some kind of divot, that would lock or “click” the lid into place, assuring that it stays closed while not in use. It’s quite frustrating to open up my bag and find that my lid wiggled off and has been smearing all over the other items in my bag, which wastes product and can possibly ruin other items in my bag. I’m not saying that to imply that this product might have dangerous ingredients in it, so, I’ll use an example. For instance, most purses or bags are manufactured with a combination of materials and textures, like cloth and faux-leather. Trying to remove a waxy lip balm with a tint in it is no easy feat, even for a dry cleaner, especially if you have a bust schedule and can’t drop everything to get said bag to a dry cleaner the moment the product comes into contact. What usually happens is it isn’t noticed until after it’s already had time to set into the fibers, possibly creating a stain that won’t ever come out. So, just be cautious if you want to keep this in a bag that has a lot of sentimental value and requires more maintenance and care.

Despite the lid, the rest of the packaging is quite durable. A quick fix I’ve used is simply using a strip of tape to keep the lid on the tube. I know that seems tacky, but it works so I’m able to carry this product with me and reapply throughout the day and not get it all over the inside of my bag. Inside my bag, this gets rubbed against by various items like my keys, crystals, cards, coins, etc. Despite all those things causing friction against the label, the lettering and detail remains intact every time. Now, I know that won’t be the case forever, but I’m impressed how well it’s held up against some of those abrasive items.
