Tumblr media
You keep to yourself. That’s the safest, the easiest way to live. You keep your head down, your eyes to yourself, your voice bottled up.
You grip your phone as you approach the coffee shop. You stand on your toes to see through the painted windows and frown at the long queue. You won’t have to worry about that. Like everything else social, you’ve found a work around.
You look at your phone, the app showing your order as ‘preparing’. It should be done shortly as the progress bar fills close to complete. You can bear the claustrophobia for a minute or so until it’s ready.
You go to open the door but an arm reaches past you and does that first. You step back, patiently waiting for the other customer to precede you. They don’t move. You stare at their shoes. Dark blue velvet loafers with gold emblems on chains.
“Go on, baby face, I got it,” the man’s voice makes your skin crawl.
You shrink down and give a nod, throat clenching as you struggle to find your voice. You’re not much for conversation but you’re but impolite.
“Thanks,” you force out without raising your head.
You scurry through quickly, a bit to close to the stranger than you like, and you clasp your phone against your chest as you stand just away from the cluster of people awaiting their orders. You bounce on your feet as the noises join together to form a cacophony; the hissing steam, the clanging metal, the clinking porcelain, the calls of the workers behind the counter, and the buzz of the crowd seated or standing around the cafe. Sweat gathers on the nape of your neck as the chaos swirls a storm around you.
You pull your phone away from the front of your pullover and check the screen. Should be ready any moment and you’ll be free of the circus. You adjust your grip on the phone, almost jittery as another customer joins the wait at the pick up window.
You breathe out. It’s not usually this busy at this time. You have a routine. You can handle the expected. You order on your phone so you don’t need to talk to anyone. You wait outside until it’s almost done then come in too quickly claim your prize. But not today, something’s different and it’s throwing everything off.
It’s only on Wednesday’s that you venture down to the cafe. It’s the halfway point of your week so you mark it with a taste of motivation. The same order every week. A London fog latte. Simple and affordable. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated.
Your name cuts through the din, “...medium London fog.”
You drop your arm to your side and set your shoulders. You march forward through the parting bodies ahead of you and reach for the cup. Before you can grasp it, someone else scoops it up. You nearly cry out in horror. Someone’s stealing your order!
You turn to the tea thief but they make no move to flee. They hold the cup nonchalantly, turning it to read the sticker on the side, reciting the same name that just rose from the barista’s lips seconds ago. You face the stranger but again, your eyes are downward.
The blue loafers!
“Cute name,” he comments as he holds the cup out.
You once more try to take the cup but before you can, he has it out of reach again. Your lashes flick and your fingers twiddle helplessly. His large hand is firmly around the cup so even if you did try to wrestle it from him, you doubt you’d have any hope but to spill it all.
You look around but no one else seems to notice. They’re all staring at their phones or talking with the person next to them. The staff behind the counter are too busy appeasing the rush of orders.
“I’ve never tried one of these,” he taunts, “I’m more of a ristretto guy. Like my espresso.”
You shake your head and rescind your hand, balling it against your fist. What does he want? Why is he bothering you? You said thank you. Did he not hear you?
“Don’t get yourself in a tizzy,” he pushes the tea towards you, “there you are, sweat pea.”
You hesitate. You slowly unfurl your fingers and reach for the cup. As you wrap your fingers around it, you can’t help but brush his. Thick and strong and unmoving. He clings to it for just a moment before he lets you have it.
“Thanks,” you squeak again, this time louder so he certainly hears you.
“You got a sweet voice,” he puts his hand on his hip, a glimpse of a shiny gold watch face peeking out from beneath his sleeve, “I’d love to hear more of it.”
Your eyes round as you focus on the zipper of his thin jacket. You shake your head and meekly raise your cup awkwardly and dip your chin slightly. No thanks.
You turn and weave your way back through the crowd. Your heart is thumping in your chest. What an odd encounter.
More so, you’re dismayed that he saw you. That he noticed you. For years, you’ve done your best to be invisible. You prefer it that way. You don’t even think your neighbours know you exist. But that man, he seemed to see nothing but you.
You push outside and nearly drop your cup. You try to steady yourself. You’re all knotted up and tense. You tuck your phone into your back pocket and bring the cup before you nose, inhaling the sweet scent of the foam. Something about it isn’t as soothing as usual.
You turn down the pavement and wince as a sole scuffs close behind you. Suddenly, another set of steps walk next to yours, measured to keep in tandem with your own short legs. Blue velvet.
You walk faster. Is he following you? Why? What does he want? He’s much taller, you can’t outpace him.
“You know, when I said I’d like to hear more, I thought maybe over a coffee?” He suggests.
You don’t say a word as you keep your eyes forward, squeezing your cup tight as you try not to swish it around too much. You’ve never had to deal with this before. Men don’t see you. There was a time you hated that but since, you were grateful for that.
“I mean, I could do most of the talking, never had much of a trouble with that, jellybean,” he offers.
You shake your head. Your throat tightens. You can’t speak. You want to scream but you can’t make a noise.
As you get to the corner, you stop short. He steps past you but just as quickly catches himself and turns to face you. You gulp and look down at your cup. You can’t keep going. If you do, you’ll lead him right to your home.
“What’s going on, sweetheart? You forget something? How about we head back and I’ll buy you something sugary to go with that?”
You furrow your brow and step back on your heel. You bring your eyes up, a furtive glance at his face, brief and flickering. You just want to know what he looks like so you never see him again.
His blue eyes twinkle, his nose is long but proportioned to his chiseled face, his hair is combed back, the sides shaved, and a thick swatch of hair lines his upper lip. He’s older than you, you know that much, but you’ve never good at gauging age. You’ve never seen him before but you can’t be sure. You don’t look at many faces.
You pivot and cross the street without looking. You narrowly miss a bumper and get a honk in remonstrance. You can’t stop yourself. You’re panicking. You head down the next street as his footsteps follow. It’s all you can hear.
As you pass a bin, you dump the drink. You don’t pause as it plummets heavily into the trash and you fall into a brisk half-jog. You pump your arms, puffing wildly, dizzy as you search for a saviour.
You dash into the library. You don’t know what you’re looking for. Just for anyone to get this man to leave you alone.
You don’t look back as you enter and head straight for the front counter. You’re out of breath as you approach the rounded edge and tap the bell frantically. A woman emerges from behind the window wall and she greets you with a confused chime.
“Hello, can I help you?” She asks.
“Yes, I need...” you gulp and glance at the doors. You push away from the counter and spin, searching. You don’t see the man. He’s probably waiting outside. But you never looked back. You never really saw if he was following. “I...” you turn back to the woman, “never mind.”
You cross your arms and turn away. You cringe as you realise how ridiculous you must have seemed. Worse, you didn’t mean to bother someone just doing their job and over what? You’re own issues. You should go home, back to your reclusion, where you can’t be in anyone’s way.
👄
When you finally muster the courage to leave the library, your journey home is slowed by your paranoia. You have your phone out, held up so you can see over your shoulder with the front camera. You watch the screen more than the sidewalk ahead of you.
You get home without a second shadow. As you let yourself through the grated front door of the building, you can’t help but feel stupid. That man must’ve got the idea when you as good as ran in the other direction. You’re being dramatic.
You close the camera and put your phone away. You waist six dollars in your frantic flight. You mourn the tea latte as the heavy inner door clunks shut behind you. You drag your feet up the stairs as your keys jingle on your finger.
You apartment is at the very end of the hall. You enter and twist the latch. You slide the chain into place and hang the key ring on the little hook beside the door frame. You untangle your purse and leave it with your phone on the table in the corner.
You shuffle the few feet to the front room and look around. You find comfort in the familiarity of your little apartment. Your hideaway.
You go back to your desk and sign back in. You’re back later than usual but you can still make up the time. As long as there’s enough tasks left in the portal. You don’t have to let that man ruin your whole day. You’ll never see him again. In a few days, you won’t even remember him.
👄
Wednesday. Halfway through the week.
You scroll and click around your screen as you watch the clock in the corner tick on. Usually around this time, you’d be excited. You’d clock out for your break and go down to the cafe. As much as you looked forward to the treat, the walk alone was relaxing in its own way.
Not that day. Despite your efforts to shrug off the strange encounter, you haven’t shaken it. So instead, the kettle boils as a bag of earl gray sits in an empty mug. You’re not going. Maybe next week.
You’re a bit depressed but you’re too nervous to make the venture. Oh well, you’ll save a bit of money. You could find a different place next time. That might be easier.
You stay logged in and claim a new task. Hey, you can be done work earlier if you can power through. You might even make a few extra bucks.
The kettle clicks and you get up to pour the water. You leave it to steep, forgetting it for the screen before you. Your fingers tap endlessly across the keyboard, filling the silence as you zone in on the words, transcribing messy ink to Times New Roman.
Your trance is broken by a sudden buzz. You sit up, the kink in your neck pangs. You need to stop hunching. The buzz comes again. Is that... It must be a mistake. It happens now and then, someone buzzes the wrong apartment.
You get up as it sounds a third time and you shuffle down to the speaker box. You hit the button, “wrong number.”
“No--”
You let go of the number before you can hear the response. They buzz again. You sigh. You hit the button.
“I’m sorry but you have the wrong number,” you repeat.
“I don--”
You release the button again and take a step back. Buzz! You’re getting annoyed. You hit the button. “Wrong--”
“Got a delivery. 212.” The man’s voice drowns out your own, reciting your name after your apartment number. Your finger stays on the button as you frown. A delivery?
“I’m not expecting a delivery.”
“Are you...” he says your name again.
“... yes.”
Silence, filled with the low hum of the speaker, “so, can I come up or...?”
“Uh, I guess.”
You pull your finger away and hover it over the other. Maybe it’s from work? There was the one time they sent a cheap mass production travel mug with their logo on it as some incentive. A poor attempt at employee appreciation.
You press down and hold until you’re certain they have enough time to get in. You wait by the door, ringing your hands. You hear the door at the end of the hall open on its old hinges and you peek through the peephole.
You watch the fuzzy figure come into focus with each of his long steps. He doesn’t hold a box nor wear the uniform of a postal worker. No, he wears those blue leather loafers and holds a bright pink paper cup with a white lid. From the cafe.
As he comes close, you get a pigeon’s eye view of the hair on his upper lip and his bold blue eyes. It feels like he can see you too as he stands smirking on the other side of the door. This can’t be real.
He knocks and you wince as the door shifts in the frame.
“Special delivery,” he calls through, “open up, baby face.”

Astrology observations 🔭🔭🔭
Tumblr media
Credit goes to my astrology blog @astroismypassion check it out on Tumblr and Instagram
🔭 It’s funny how Capricorn Lilith becomes such a teddy bear when in romantic partnership. They let go of their hardest thing to do and that is control. They control everyone else, but find it hard to have the same control for their partner since they like them too much. So it’s like they become soft around them, their partner IS their weak spot.
🔭 I don’t know for you guys, but I’ve seen a lot of Sun conjunct Lilith and Sun conjunct Chiron relationships turn south. For example, if you are Taurus Sun and the other person is a Taurus Lilith. Or one is Scorpio Sun and the other has Scorpio Chiron. They always seem to start well and then completely turn, that you wonder if they even liked each other in the first place.
🔭 If you have Pisces Moon, your mum probably bakes great desserts. 👌🏻
🔭 I previously talked about 12th house shows what kind of shoes you like to wear:

🔭 Neptune in the 2nd house: you best earn money when in isolation!
🔭 People with many planets in 11th house will be highly impacted by a work association. Like you work in a tech company for example, right? You could belong to a computer science association, club, book club and will be hugely affected by that.
🔭 All Earth Moons need steady daily routine that to others seems a bit repetitive, but it helps others. Because, if they don’t have that, they start disassociating.
🔭 Neptune in the 2nd house: you attract partners and people with potential emotional problem.
🔭 Leo Lilith, Lilith in the 5th house or Lilith at a Leo degree: people would react very strongly if you were to express that you do not wish to have children. Or on the contrary, you could have children young and later regret it that you didn’t go after all the other things you still wanted.
🔭 A lot of Cancer Suns might feel like underachievers at times, because they understand that when you get sick, ill it is your friends and your family that will take care of you and NOT your job. And they really invest a lot in their friendgroup, it makes them also feel like they belong somewhere.
🔭 Virgo Mars (especially if they also have Virgo Lilith) are so good with dirty talk, because not only they have big vocabulary that they can think of on the spot, but also because they know no shame. They are outspoken, because they are not that easily embarrassed by words.
🔭 Virgo Lilith or Lilith in the 6th house: it will be hard for you to get work phone or a work computer and/or work from home
🔭 I’ve talked about previously that 4th house shows your life after retirement.
Aries over the 4th house: you might be really physically active, like join a run club, be more active and DIY, work on your home, disputes with family members or close friends, a lot of cleaning around the house
Taurus over the 4th house: investing money from savings, indulging more with said money from savings
Gemini over the 4th house: reconnecting with siblings, buying more property or renting it, moving to another city, but within the same country, gardening
Cancer over the 4th house: cooking more, perfecting a craft, socializing with friends a lot
Leo over the 4th house: spending a lot of time with grandchildren, start an Instagram creative outlet, “the fashionable grandma/grandpa”
Virgo over the 4th house: travelling a lot, learning, constantly reading, reading the morning paper, going to get coffee with friends, someone else comes and does chores for you
Libra over the 4th house: buying more clothes, marrying at a late age, like marrying for the first time or again at 45 or 65, falling in love and feeling like a teenager again, baking desserts, socializing, doing chores for other people, enjoying saved up money
Scorpio over the 4th house: issues with your mother, inheritance, investing money
Sagittarius over the 4th house: moving to another country, reading books, watching documentaries, socializing, having get togethers in your home, being a lunch host
Capricorn over the 4th house: spending more time with your parents, have a hobby that earns you money and doing it from your home
Aquarius over the 4th house: living abroad, finding a partner who is also your best (and probably only) friend too, spending more time with family, but online or talking to them through a videocall
Pisces over the 4th house: a lot of money issues, people you live with trying to throw you out of the home, potential support from other people, helping other people, you doing chores for others and them giving you food, having a lot of free time

Femme Fatale Guide: Ways To Appear More Mature & Embrace Your Sensual Side
Dress in darker tones & tailored silhouettes
Pair your outfits with block-heeled boots, loafers, or short stiletto shoes
Choose well-crafted (matching) jewelry and a structured handbag
Make sure all of your clothes are ironed, pressed, cuffed, buttoned, thoughtfully tucked, etc.
Wear black mascara with black eyeliner (thin line on the top and on the tight line/waterline) with a bronzed contour and peachy blush and a brown-toned or deep red/wine lipstick
Maintain good posture
Slow down your speech. Choose your words carefully. Speak clearly and concisely. Broaden your vocabulary. Make sure to use more sophisticated language appropriately (no one wants to sound like a thesaurus when they speak). Enunciate.
Learn how to communicate with your eyes. Embrace the language of your gaze – whether it's using direct eye contact to convey confidence or seducing others with an upward look with a slight tilt of your head to express your flirtatious side
Get comfortable with a firm handshake (couple this gesture with a smile and direct eye contact)
Discover your signature scent (I recommend YSL Libre, Tom Ford Velvet Orchard, Kilian Rolling In Love, and Byredo Slow Dance for a sophisticated and seductive "Femme Fatale" aura)
Let go of any shame around your sexuality. Explore and embrace your sexual energy to fuel your creativity and feel more confident in your body

The Whimsigoth aesthetic isn’t quite goth or quite bohemian, but blends together aspects of each. This aesthetic was conjured out of the 70s, 80s, and 90s with witchy influences showcased in a plethora of movies and television shows. Free spirited individuals with interests in astrology or witchcraft may feel called to this aesthetic.

[MARI - 25]
Mari booted up the old PC. The Puppeteer watched, warped face sneering in the reflection of the black screen, long, stringy hair covering thin shoulders; Sunny was busy with Basil today.
Trying to ignore the creature behind her, Mari looked out the window. Perhaps her vision was getting worse, some parts of the backyard looked blank, like raindrops distorting the view outside a windowpane. She could still see the forest and sky, and figure outside. He was always there too, scarf flapping in the wind. She imagined him as her father, waiting peacefully for her to come outside and play…
Come now, Mari. You know that’s not good enough. Take a break, we can do more soon.
Mari’s fingers tapped absent-mindedly along the desk. She played out some notes… right, G4, E5, …left, C4, G4 and E4, once again,... everything played mezzoforte, she hummed quietly to herself…
Yes, this one would sound good enough for Dad. This one would be perfect…
She closed her eyes. It was like it was all really there… left, A3, C#4 and E4; G3, C#4 and E4, repeat,... right, G5, D5, no, wait, E5…
Wait.
Mari froze.
What was she doing?
No, what the fuck was she doing?
No, no, no. Absolutely not. Never again
Her mother's voice echoed in her head.
Don't hurt yourself, Mari. I told you to stop. You're burdening me and everyone else.
No, no, wait, but,
Mari slammed her hands on the edge of the desk, and again. Over and over and over and over and over. She hit them harder and harder. Over and over and over and over and over. She hit them until they turned purple and throbbed, she hit them until they went numb. Then she kept hitting.
She stopped. Her fingers were shaking, bent in odd directions. The bandages must've slipped off.
She knew it was supposed to hurt, but it didn't. She looked blankly at the shattered mechanics of her hands.
Her mother burst into the room, the door flying open. Mari hadn't heard the footsteps. “God, Mari, what did I tell you? That's the third time this month.”
Mari stood up and looked at her mother's shoes, avoiding her eyes. They were navy velvet loafers, with a small rose near the top of the shoe. Perfect mom shoes for a perfect mom.
“No, we're not going to the hospital again. They're fed up with you.” Her mother grabbed Mari's wrists, pulling them harshly. She peered at the fingers.
“Go and clean them up and bandage them. I'm sick of this. I know you miss him, but this isn't appropriate.”
Mari moved to leave, slipping past her mother, avoiding touch. As she walked toward the door, her mother sighed deeply.
“You know you're fine. Don't pretend otherwise. I'm fine and you're fine. If you weren’t fine, you would talk to me.”
Mari nodded distractedly, and busied herself in the bathroom. Puppeteer loomed in the mirror, hissing the words her mother said.
You're a burden. She's sick of you. They’re fed up with you. You're fine. You're fine. You're fine. This isn’t appropriate.
Mari tried to ignore it.

Ooops realized I should have sent that ask to your writeblr so here it is again. Please tell me as much or as little as you'd like about your OCs' clothes. What does a typical outfit look like? Who is fashion conscious and who dresses out of necessity? Pictures welcome :)
Tumblr media
Haha, hi @avrablake! Thanks so much for this ask. If you haven't met Avra before, they're writing a gripping speculative fiction novel entitled Beyond The Darkness, a prequel to Beyond The Darkness entitled Nightshade, and more! Go check out their Writeblr Intro!
As usual, I'm going to be answering for the two main characters of my work-in-progress, The Sorcerer's Apprentice: Valeriano (the mysterious, ageing sorcerer) and Altaluna (his unworldly apprentice). I've gone back and forth on the entire aesthetics of the project several times, but I think I've got it down now, so here goes!
✦ VALERIANO: A boho maximalist to the core, 90-year-old Valeriano dresses to impress, confound and mesmerize. That means multiple rock-star-style rings on each hand; multiple tattoos, including a tarantula tattoo either on his forearm or hand (I haven't fully decided yet); scarlet, velvet dressing gowns in the morning; an assortment of carved and engraved walking sticks for every purpose (including some NSFW walking sticks which I will not discuss here for reasons lol); oversized, black fur evening coats; an infinitude of embroidered robes of various deep colours (also used as evening coats); designer sunglasses; handmade shoes (particularly, suede & velvet imperial loafers. His favourite pair are red, and almost all of them have red lacquered soles); an assortment of tailored suits (corduroy, velvet, wool); silk and wool scarfs; silk handkerchiefs (which he tucks into his front blazer pocket for added style); multiple shawls, including woollen ruanas; and, white t-shirts for when he's staying home or feeling casual. Basically, cross The Last Lovers Left Alive, Crowley from Good Omens, and Steve Tyler from Aerosmith with David Attenborough, and you're starting to get the vibe. Valeriano is always the best-dressed man in the room, and his signature opulent style serves to reinforce his social status. #He's your cool granddad from hell #the devil really does wear Prada #HauteFae
✦ ALTALUNA: In ACT ONE of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, 26-year-old Altaluna is struggling, so what she wears on a day-to-day basis isn't really her primary concern. Her clothes at this point in the novel are practical: old jeans, plain shirts, t-shirts, etc. She's dressing principally to get by and not draw any attention to herself, as this usually means trouble. In ACT TWO this all changes when Altaluna goes to live with Valeriano. Before she leaves, she spends the last of her savings on clothes that will armour her against expectations that she is some uneducated, back-water peasant with no taste. And they do the trick. Valeriano and his entourage are taken aback when she doesn't turn up in muddy overalls. Over the course of this second act, Altaluna will strike a delicate balance between dressing to impress and dressing to not overshadow Valeriano (a deadly infraction). Her usual attire will be a mixture of sixties-inspired mini-dresses, fashionable peasant shirts, velvet suits, boots, heels, embroidered leather jackets (a safe choice because Valeriano values rebellion) and the occasional robe. However, she will steer clear from anything that signals she is a woman in her own right; nothing that highlights her sexuality or adultness. The more impressionable and naive she looks, the less likely she is to threaten Valeriano and incur his wrath. Finally, ACT THREE will signal a break from this measured calculation with bold, sexually forward looks (off-shoulder dresses, more plunge lines, etc.) that mark her emancipation. You can check out her mood board here.

Chapter 1 - Table of Consent -
Tumblr media
Chapter 8: Something Like a Date
Since you wore yourself out repeatedly the afternoon before, you slept like a rock and ended up awake and about at 4am. Oh how the tides had turned on how this Sunday was going compared to last week. You took a nice shower that you had hoped would be relaxing, but the idea of getting into clothes that had been gifted to you had gotten your imagination rolling again.
You had once heard Thatch tell Marco that a man only gifts a woman clothes to see them on his floor, and by that logic they had decided to buy you a set of lockpicks for your birthday instead of clothes. But now the jest was bouncing around in your head as you put on the sweats and shirt.
You had to admit you were grateful, of all accessories provided, lingerie wasn't a part of it. You had plenty of your own and given the modest cut of the dress you didn't have to worry about needing anything custom to go along with it. It had taken you a few moments to decide on what underwear to wear – the basics, and assume nothing will happen? Or dress to match and deal with the fallout of having thought ahead if something does happen.
In the end you went with dressed to match, since the idea of something happening and being in your boring underclothes felt more mortifying than anything else. At least if you ended up being teased for matching it would help you lean into things that were already happening.
You stepped outside a few minutes before 8, enjoying the morning air and preferring to watch the world go by vs pacing yourself into a frenzy inside. It was barely a minute later when an, admittedly modest, limousine pulled up to the end of your driveway.
An older gentleman, who looks like he worked out at every available opportunity to be that muscled at that age, steps out from the limo's driver side and approaches you.
"Miss (Y/N), shall I take your bag?" He inquires. His voice didn't have the deep timbre that Doflamingo's did, but there was a layer of long-held authority in it. You doubted his only job was chauffer.
"Yes, please – mister?"
"Just Lao, young miss. The young master suggested that if you insisted on calling me Mr. Lao I should address you as young lady." He adds, and a grin spreads across your face.
"Very well, thank you for coming to get me, Lao." You reply as he puts the small suitcase into the trunk.
"You're quite welcome, Miss (Y/N)." He opens the door for you, and you had the good sense to let him. As you step into the limo, you find you were not alone.
Doflamingo sat along the side in casual enough attire you were almost unable to stop yourself from making a face at the sight of it. He still wore his shades, but the t-shirt fit him in a relaxed way – quite the feat given his broad shoulders. You were surprised to see sweatpants not dissimilar in style from yours, and loafers to finish the look. You noticed he had even downgraded his usual metal watch to one with a leather band.
You couldn't help yourself as you settled in, and quipped. "Do you even own a pair of sneakers?"
"Due to my height, my shoes are all custom-made." He replies smoothly enough.
"That would be a no, then." You smile back at him as Lao gets into the driver's seat.
Doflamingo gives a faint smirk and turns toward the front of the limo. "We are ready, Lao."
"Very well, young master." Comes the reply, and the window separating the driver from the two of you rolls up as the limo rolled into motion.
Taking a better look around the limo, you realize it wasn't overly large, but with enough room that both Doflamingo and you had a comfortable amount of personal space, while not being so separated as to make conversation awkward. The black leather interior was broken by accents of velvet and a deep blood-red wood grain. It was certainly old-time elegant, and not as flashy as you expected.
"I admit, I appreciate you sending over clothes for today. I would've felt uncomfortably under dressed for breakfast if I'd chosen something on my own." You'd poked him a couple times and he hadn't teased in return, so you figured it was only polite to go easy on him. As he said before, today was for your enjoyment.
"I'm glad to hear it put you at ease." He purrs with a smirk. Teasing or not that voice was a sin. "Before we get too far into the day, I did want to ask if you were at all uncomfortable with going to my family's estate. I have alternative plans if you'd rather not, so don't feel pressured."
"Will your family be there?"
"They will."
"I'm okay with it then," you admit. "Being in a place like that and having it empty would be a bit unnerving, but it wouldn't be bad to see your family again." You see him raise an eyebrow and you sigh in mock defeat, pouting and looking away. "I feel a tiny bit guilty for leaving how I did last week."
"I see."
"Miniscule." You reiterate, going quiet for a few minutes before relaxing into the comfortable seats. The low, barely noticeable vibration of the car's wheels as it drove forward were starting to lull you into a nap, and you decide to fight against it.
"So where are we going for breakfast, your estate?"
"No, after some asking around, I was informed of a nice place not far from here that does an exceptionally good job with breakfast, and I thought it would be worth the risk to go there."
It was your turn to raise your eyebrows in surprise. "I... don't mean this nearly as mean as it's gonna sound, but you don't look like the kind of person who risks the unknown, Trouble."
"I assure you; I take plenty of risks." He replies, and you could swear there was almost the tiniest hint of a pout in his voice.
"Oh, I'm sure you take all kinds of risks, Trouble." You laugh. "What I mean is you seem like someone who mitigates risks to make sure any risk you do take still end how you want. Like if you went skydiving you'd pack your own parachute."
Or provide someone with clothes for a day on the town so you knew they'd wear something that matched your style. You thought to yourself, finally realizing all the reasons behind the offered clothes.
"A fair assessment, Miss (Y/N), and one I imagine I cannot deny in this case either."
The limo comes to a stop, and you hear Lao exit from his cab. He opens the door and Doflamingo steps out first, offering his hand as you come out behind him.
"Something like a date, indeed, what a gentleman." You tease, taking his offered hand and stepping out of the limo.
"I did promise." He states.
"You never said 'promise', but you're keeping your word, so I'll appreciate... that..." Your words die on your lips as you realize you are outside Sanji's café. A sign on the door indicates they were closed, but Sanji steps out and greets you.
"The private party has arrived, right this way." He offers cheerfully.
You weren't sure who you needed to kill for this first, Trouble or Sanji. You opened and closed your mouth a couple times trying to find the right words and a chuckle from Doflamingo causes you to turn to him first.
"Worth the..." you stammer, and then bite back what else was on your mind, unsure of if you wanted to say it.
Stomping over to Sanji, you go to snag his cigarette out of his mouth, but he removes it and holds it aloft before you can reach him, smiling all the while. "You could've warned me." You huff.
"My silence was appropriately negotiated." He beams, he was having the time of his life, this romantic idiot. "Besides, (Y/N), I promised."
"Tch." You walk past Sanji and into the café. It was done up a little more than usual, with nothing but a single table in the middle of the, granted, small interior of the café. Normally there weren't more than five tables as it was.
After Doflamingo enters, Sanji closes and locks the door, to make sure that none of his sleepy morning regulars blunder in past Lao accidentally. There are menus waiting for you and Sanji leaves to get coffee before coming back to take your orders. You have been keeping your arms crossed and grumbling in Sanji's general direction since entering the café.
"I hope you're not truly upset, Miss (Y/N)." Doflamingo says as you wait for your meals.
You finally crack a smile and shake your head. "I'm... not. I'm just," you scrunch up your nose a little. "I can't say I dislike surprises, cause good surprises are great, I've just been done in by my own morals is all."
"Might I ask you to elaborate?" He inquires. You could feel him taking in all of this as though he were compiling data for future use.
"For reasons I'm not yet okay with getting into, let's just say I take promises seriously. Someone's word can falter, cause sometimes we agree to something, and it slips our mind. No shame, no foul." You explain. "But promises are another matter. An invocation of honor. I don't promise lightly, and my friends seem to have adapted it."
A moment's silence. "Ah, I see. You expected your long-time friend and boss would give you a warning about my plan."
"I did, until he said he had promised." Your smile is genuine. "I'm not mad. A little salty that I feel like I've fallen into a trap of some sort, but not mad."
"Promise?" Doflamingo prompts, quite the smile on his lips.
Your face goes pink despite your efforts. "Promise."
You have a good meal afterward, filled mostly with small talk about the food. You say the most; rambling on about Sanji's cooking, about how bad you were when you first started helping him, and about how you only absent-mindedly put buttered bread in a toaster one time before you never made that mistake again. It was hard to keep conversation going with Sanji's cooking in front of you, however, and things naturally die down as you finish up your meal.
"I don't know how you do it, Sange," you say, not quite hitting the last syllable of his name. "But I feel perfectly full again. Like if I had one more bite it would be too much."
"Agreed. It was delicious and satisfying." Doflamingo adds. "Well worth the risk."
You almost choke and then laugh. "You really are a smarmy bastard."
"Nonsense," Doflamingo insists, standing up and offering his hand. "Today I'm a perfect gentleman."
"You're a perfect something," you quip taking his hand. It was warm, and expectedly large, and you were reminded of when you shook hands before, as though he wanted to kiss yours instead of shaking it. "Jury's out on what, exactly."
He unlocks the door in a smooth motion and holds it open as you leave the café and go back into the limo. Lao assists you back in again, and this time Doflamingo sits next to you in the same backseat. There was still some space, and he kept his hands to himself, but the proximity was threatening to stir your imagination.
"We're not going far." He states, as though giving an excuse for why he hadn't moved to a different section of seating. "There's a small carnival between here and the estate and I had assumed it would be a good place to walk after breakfast."
"Oh, Binks' carnival," you are doing your best to seem completely unconcerned about the arrangement, you didn't want to scoot away and give the impression he was having an effect on you. "That's not a bad place for a stroll. Especially this early on a Sunday, there won't be many people."
The walk around the carnival grounds was relatively uneventful. Neither of you said a whole lot, but it wasn't uncomfortable. At one of the stands you leaned into the whole 'something like a date' concept, and asked him to buy you something to commemorate the day.
He makes a face. "Something from here?"
"Yes indeed Mr. Money-bags-inc." You flash your best teasing grin. "I want you to pick out some hokey cheap carnival gift. The ordeal will make this more of a proper repayment."
"Oh?"
"Well, I can already tell you're not particularly enjoying the idea of it." You grin. You feel like the Cheshire Cat, except with more sass. Sitting down on a nearby bench, you gesture for him to peruse the stalls, your feet kicking back and forth and the shit-eating grin still plastered on your face.
With a sigh, and a smile, he goes over to the stalls. You had to admit watching him walk away was a bit of a treat, he had an ass that didn't just look good in a suit, and it was a good thing you were already seated or you would've been tempted to smack it. You decide to distract yourself by poking at your phone for a little while, so as to not get caught staring.
You kept your eyes on your surroundings regardless and caught sight of someone you hoped would continue to not notice you. The officer appeared off-duty, which was surprising all on its own, you were pretty sure Agent Smoker only had one setting. But it seemed he was doing some volunteer work, as he was completely without any cigars, and surrounded by a small gaggle of children.
Kudos to him for doing the Big Brother thing and looking like an actual human begin while doing so. You notice Tashigi with him, coming back with two more kids following her, and trays of food for everyone. They disappeared off in a direction you were resolved to avoid, at least for today you didn't want to have to deal with either of them.
Not they were bad or treated you unkindly. Smoker wanted you to go into the force as a linguistics analyst or some other equally boring desk job. Tashigi thought you'd make a good agent if the desk job sounded too boring. Both knew who your biological dad was, and who you considered to be your real father. You imagined they were just trying to keep you out of trouble.
Bit late for that, though.
Doflamingo returns after a few long moments and sits down beside you. He holds out his hand, whatever he had decided on apparently fit inside of it.
"My dear," He says, and you weren't sure if he was playing at the role of A Good Date™, or if the 'something like' had started to fall away into actual date territory.
You put your hand out, palm up, expecting him to put it in your hand, when instead he slips a beaded bracelet around your wrist. The material holding it together was stretchy, the beads were small marble sized orbs of polished wood. For carnie fare, it was surprising good quality, and looked quite elegant.
You smile. "Leave it to you to find the highest quality carnival gift I've ever seen."
"I do my best within the situation." He replies with a chuckle, and you feel a heat in your cheeks rise.
Before you even left the carnival grounds you knew those cheap wooden beads were already more important to you than they should've been. It was a shame there was no way they'd go with the evening gown, and you certainly weren't going to risk them swimming.
You head back to the limo, and while you let Lao open the door, you step back and make a dramatic flourish with your arm, bowing. "Age before beauty, Trouble, I insist."
The cheeky action earns you a small chuckle and Doflamingo gets into the limo first. Your win, you imagine, but he sits in the back-side seat again. If you didn't want to sit beside him, you'd have to step over him. This slick bastard.
You decide to turn your win into a draw, and sit down beside him. He already has one arm draped across the back of the seat, and you opt to sit close enough to be under his arm while not right next to him. Between his reach and your height, it wasn't like you were really super near any part of him.
"Now we're headed to your estate?" You prompt, putting a bit of lift on the word estate as though you were teasing him for being rich.
"Mmm," He agrees as he leans into your teasing. "We're headed to my estate, in my limo, driven by my chauffeur, so that my savoir can swim in my pool and relax before dinner." Oh, when he smoothed out his voice and teased you it was better than you had imagined.
"Savior, huh?" You muse, trying to distract yourself from the effect his proximity and tone were having on you. "I wouldn't go that far. If those SUVs hadn't belonged to your family, it would've been a total botch job on my part."
"And yet the end result has been thus." His seems to pout.
You turn toward him a little, looking up and giving him a crooked smile. "You sound irritated by that. Are you angry someone had to step in and help?"
A frown twists his face for a second, before he was back to his usual expression. "Not even slightly. I feel as though you are undervaluing what you did, and that is unacceptable."
"Oh." You lean back into the seat, heat going to your ears. "Well... my apologies, then." Being told to value yourself by an international underworld mob boss was certainly an experience. "So, uh, tell me about your family. If I'm going to meet more important people, I'd rather not do so cold."
"Very well, my dear."
He spent the rest of the car ride telling you about his family. Names and basic descriptions. you'd met Vergo and Diamante before, and briefly interacted with Dellinger, and Lao was driving the limo. When he spoke about his family there was a kindness in his voice you hadn't expected. He very obviously cared about these people, even if they all worked together for often nefarious reasons, and you were absolutely certain he'd burn and salt the world to protect them if that's what it took.
In the twenty or so minutes of the ride you learned about sixteen members of the family, and some of their more particular quirks. Pica had a unique voice, and he was quite sensitive about it. Giolla's taste in art suited her but it was a bit outside what would be considered typical. When he talked about Dellinger you admitted to having praised his heels. That earned you a smile, before he moved on to Senor Pink. This poor man had been through the ringer, and how he coped could be shocking if you weren't prepared for it.
Aside from Baby being needy, the rest of the family seemed fairly normal. Sugar was the youngest, but she was Monet's baby sister and not the only child at the estate either. While you hadn't met Violet, you had spoken with her, and that covered the immediate family for the most part.
When you arrived at the estate, you had to admit that Doflamingo was in a different class from Pops, it was almost twice the land and building size. Which wasn't too surprising, since the immediate Family of Donquixote was quite a few more top officers than Pop had. You imagine the number of subordinates was a number of people that was a real nightmare to keep organized.
There wasn't a chance to go swimming. You saw the pool, and the gardens, and the dinning room, kitchen, living area, work out room, Sugar's playroom, Dellinger's heel collection, half – if not all – of Giolla's favorite art pieces, and were told about the deep history of some of the estate's older heirlooms by Lao. You had been effectively kidnapped by Doflamingo's family. Not even Doflamingo could save you.
Sugar had immediately decided she liked you and was putting random bow clips in your hair while you painted Dellinger's nails after an hour or so of being dragged around the estate. Sure, some of these people were a little quirky, but you couldn't say that your friends were exactly normal either.
"There you are." Doflamingo's voice was full of amusement. You probably look like a reject store front display with enough unmatched barrettes in your hair to make clacking noises if you moved your head too fast.
"Here I am." You reply, not looking up from what you were doing. "I'm almost finished with Dellinger's nails, give me a moment."
"We still have some time to spare, though I apologize there won't be enough time for you to swim before we need to leave." He didn't sound too apologetic, and you imagine it was because you had been effectively claimed by his family.
"(Y/N) can come over again and swim whenever she wants." Sugar declares. "You weren't only going to visit today, were you?"
"If you're only here for today you can't leave to go to some stupid restaurant." Dellinger adds. "You're going to come back, right, right?"
You finish with Dellinger's nails and smile. "I mean, that's kind of your boss's call."
"Young master, you have to let her come back!" Sugar demands, flashing an impressive pair of puppy dog eyes at Doflamingo.
"Young master pleeeeease?" Dellinger begs, drawing out the long word in a childish whine and trying to imitate Sugar's puppy dog eyes.
You get up and walk toward him. "I feel like you're going to be outvoted if you don't acquiesce." You tease, pointing to the clips in your hair. "I've been adorned with highly valued prize items after all, you might have a rebellion on your hands."
"Rebellion!" Sugar says forcefully.
Dellinger turns to her hurriedly. "No rebellion Sugar! Focus on the prize items!"
"Highly prized (y/n)!" Sugar put her fist in the air.
Your face goes beet red at the unexpected qualifier, and Doflamingo licks the bottom of his lip before his face splits into a devious grin.
"Highly prized, indeed." His voice rumbles quietly, but you weren't sure if the others had heard him. "Miss (Y/N) is allowed to return if she wants to," he says, loudly enough for Sugar and Dellinger to hear. "But we cannot force her, she's not a part of the family."
There was an unspoken yet that drove its way into your brain, and you had the distinct impression of being hunted again. You could feel heat in places that weren't just your face and then shoved your children-inappropriate thoughts back down into the corner of your mind before turning toward Sugar – who has turned her puppy dog eyes on you.
"Since I've been invited, I'll come back." You assure her, taking out some of the clips. "So make sure you keep these safe and you can fancy up my hair again next time, okay?"
Sugar nods happily in response and her and Dellinger start chattering about all the things they could do the next time you visited while they help you remove the rest of the clips. In the few minutes it took them to empty your hair of clips you were certain they'd listed off enough events to ensure you'd be visiting several more times.
Leaving the others behind, the two of you walk down the hallway together. Despite the bustle of the estate, you realize that there wasn't anyone else around. You very quickly became very aware of being alone with him.
"There's been a room and bath prepared for you," Doflamingo begins, "so you can relax and clean up at your leisure before dinner. Lao has already put your luggage in the room for you." He stops in front of a door, opening it and allowing you to step through. "If you need anything, the common room is in that direction," he points, "please don't hesitate to ask."
"Ah, um... thank you." You manage, walking by him into the room you found yourself a full bundle of nerves. You kept expecting, or wanting, him to just reach out and do as he pleased, or maybe as you pleased.
"You're welcome, Miss (Y/N). I had been informed by your talented café boss that you do appreciate space and quiet. After the welcome my family unexpectedly bestowed upon you, I believed this would be an acceptable adjustment to the schedule." He didn't draw nearer, or loom, or do anything ungentlemanly, but you still felt the small hairs on your neck stand on end.
You chuckle a bit as you step further in and appreciate the room. It was luxurious, but not ostentatiously so, and the door leading into the private bath was open. There were several bookcases, seating for people who were visiting, and an impressive four poster bed that was separated slightly from the more common area of the room by drapes and an elegant room divider. There was a TV as well, and a computer – not that you were going to log into someone else's family network during your short stay, but the efficiency of items in the room was appreciable.
"I believe I was correct earlier," you muse, turning toward him with a smile. "You really do mitigate all possible risks, don't you?"
He chuckles. "Such mitigation seems hardly effective recently." He admits, his voice slipping from the near-business tone he'd been using most of the day, into something more akin to a purr.
Oh. Oh I was not wrong. Things had gone from business to interest at the café, and there was no mistaking that interest was fast becoming desire. Assuming it hadn't already gotten there before now, and he was just putting on a solid gentlemanly display this entire day.
"Until later, Miss (Y/N), please relax to your heart's content." He bids you farewell and closes the door.
You gulp, alone in the room, and silently wondering if a fling was even an acceptable possibility at this point. If he was as skilled in other activities as he was in well, in whatever all this was, then it might be impossible to just dip a toe in the proverbial pool.
If the vibe was appropriate during dinner, it wouldn't be a bad idea to brooch the topic. Leaving things unresolved wasn't really your style, and if being blunt scared him off easily, then that would resolve things.
And if it didn't, then, well, that was not something entirely undesired.

Leon wouldn’t be pleased. There's no doubt of that, the ex-solider had known that even when he called to make the plans with him but it hadn't stopped him. He wanted him with him at the company party and if he had to tell a small, white lie to get him there? So be it. He'd deal with the backlash later.
7:30 is the time he told his..lover?..he'd be picking him up and so Billy had spent the better part of the afternoon getting everything ready for him. He had sent Leon a suit tailored to his exact measurements, a navy blue so dark it was nearly black with silk lapels, gold and sapphire cufflinks and shining black loafers. He had picked the colors to highlight those pretty eyes and he couldn't wait to see Leon dolled up for the evening.
His own suit was a deep, red wine velvet suit jacket with black slacks and he cut a dashing figure as he peered into the mirror at his reflection. His hair was sleeked back, his cufflinks sparkled and he could most likely see his own features in the shine of his shoes. All in all, he was pleased with his own appearance and hoped that Leon was be too distracted and awed to fuss too much. But even so he's still very aware there would be some fussing and a sour, grumpy expression. Billy thought it would be worth it in the end.
He could be wrong of course but he's prepared for that possibility.
Another once over of himself in the mirror, he turns to head down to the garage. His wraith was waiting for him, gleaming beautiful and just before he climbs through the driver side, suicide door he pulls black leather gloves onto slender fingers.
It's a decent, uneventful ride to Leon's apartment building but soon enough he's pulling up out front. Car in park and properly braked, he slides out and jogs up the stairs to meet Leon in the lobby of his building. He doesn't even know why there's a flutter of nerves in his belly but he has to take a deep breath before he shoves up the door to the building and strokes in like he owns it.

how to style black velvet elbow-length gloves?
Generally speaking, I do love the concept of Holly Golightly-ing it by putting extreme elegance (black dress, glittering tiara, gloves) into a mundane context (sunglasses, croissant in a paper bag and to-go cup of coffee) — can’t imagine anything more chic than that. Apart from that, three other looks immediately came to mind:
I. 🦪Venus de Milo, The Dreamers🦪
white sheets wrapped decoratively around the hip (low-rise, ideally belly button should be exposed), no other garments (save for the gloves of course). hair pinned up loosely with two strands framing the face, no or very minimal make up (tinted lip balm, curled lashes if unavoidable). bare feet. a scent that’s clear and light like glass upon which the light breaks (Boudoir, Womanity…). A shadow of Venus caught between dream and waking, unreal yet soft to the touch.
II. 🏹90s Amazon🏹
white blouse with rolled up sleeves and wide lapels (cotton or linen preferred, silk accepted. the sleeves should be rolled up at around elbow-height so there’s no flash of skin between blouse and glove), super high-waisted black trousers (leather, velvet). black boots with a slight heel (riding or ankle) or black loafers. hair brushed from the face, minimal eye make up (mascara, maybe a soft 90s style smokey eye) with lipstick with gold particles and a warm blush. Optional accessories: silk handkerchief close to the throat, gold button earrings. Warm-sweet-spicy perfume (Cinema, Obsession, Opium…). Artemis taking a break from hunting to channel Kate Moss.
III. ☕️Autumnal Noir☕️
big wool or cashmere sweater with pushed up or folded up sleeves (green, brown, beige, grey…), long pencil skirt (leather or wool, black, grey or brown. knee-length at least, but longer would be ideal. the silhouette of the skirt and gloves should contrast with the chunkiness of the sweater). any shoe with a vintage-delicate feel to it. porcelain make up (powder, red lips, mascara, liner optional), hair open or in vintage waves. Optional accessories: silk scarf to wrap around the hair, black purse, cat-eye sunglasses. A seductive, sophisticated fragrance (black orchid, lust, jo malone’s saffron…). The darling with the well-kept secret stepping out from behind the silver screen to have coffee.

"I see."
"Minuscule." You reiterate, going quiet for a few minutes before relaxing into the comfortable seats.
