Dream Rosella fic. Set in Eclipse. Starts around the sleep over and Rosalie telling Bella her story. Canon diverges at the graduation when Renée does show up for it.
Rosalie somehow sees how narcissistic Renée is. It sparks a deep conversation between Rose and Bella about the later's upbringing. Bella reveals some hardships from her childhood, things she's never told anyone even Edward. Through this conversation, Rosalie begins to understand that Renée was negligent. Rose also gets a better understanding of Bella and of why Bella can be okay with not having children. Because Bella spent most of her life being forced to be a parent to herself and to her mother.
The conversation is the start to of new friendship between Rosalie and Bella. The time they spent together is filled with small talk. Rosalie shows Bella some mechanical stuff. Rose also talks to Bella about what the later's life might be like if not for superior interference. Bella talks of her original plans to be come a teacher. At some some point the come across the topic that's always divided them. Bella becoming a vampire.
Rosalie puts emphasis on the points she's made before. Her desire to grow old and have children. Her regrets of a human life unlived. Bella expresses her desire for a family, but not the kind that Rose describes wanting for herself. Bella wants a mom that can actually take care of her and put Bella's need before her own. She wants a dad with more emotional depth than the length of a casted fishing line. Bella wants siblings that are also her friends. People that she can lean on and come to for advice. She wants to be in a family where she is responsible because she can be, not because she has to be. Bella also points out the practicality of her becoming a vampire. What with all the danger she finds herself in. And the looming threat of the Volturi that puts them all in danger.
After that conversation, Rosalie begins to rethink her vote. She still thinks being a vampire is the wrong choice, but maybe it's not the wrong choice for Bella. Rosalie understands Bella better now. She re-evaluates her reasons for being against Bella's transformation. Rose realizes that her reasons are based on her own desires and regrets and not on Bella's. She starts trying to see the situation from Bella's perspective.
Along the way, Rosalie begins to see Bella in a new light. She sees Bella's kindness and unique humor. And the more she gets to know Bella, the more she starts to fall for her. Which causes problems because Rose is with Emmett and Bella is with Edward. In private, Rosalie asks Emmett if he's happy. They have an important conversation about their relationship.
Meanwhile Bella, unaware of Rose's feelings and convo with Emmett, is thinking about her own relationship with Edward. She thinks on one of there biggest problems. Her rejection of his marriage proposal. Through self-reflection, Bella realizes that she's worried about Edward's commitment. She wants to be with Edward for eternity, literally, and she views marriage as something temporary due to her parents very short lived marriage. And even her maternal grandparents divorce. Edward as been adamantly against Bella being a vampire sense the start of their relationship. How can Bella commit to marriage when Edward, in Bella's perspective, doesn't seem to want forever with her? After all, he's left her before. He's promised to never leave her, but he made that promise in the hospital in Phoenix. It's a promise he's already broken.
Two nights before the newborn battle, Bella brings up her revelations with Edward. He doesn't seem to understand her and proposes with Elizabeth's ring. Bella turns down the proposal again and breaks up with Edward. The day of the battle comes and Edward fights Victoria and Riley. After the fight is over and won, Edward retreats from the campsite. Leaving Bella alone. Again. Rosalie seeks out Bella, carries her down the mountain and brings her home. She fills Bella in on what happened with the newborns. Bella in turn tells Rose of her break up with Edward and how he left her stranded in the mountains.
Bella still intends to be a vampire. Alice confirms this when she says that her visions of Bella being a vampire and a member of the family have not changed. Though Bella's future as Edward's mate has become extremely blurry. Edward contacts Carlisle to let him know that he's staying with their cousins in Denali for a while.
Charlie is worried that Bella will fall into her depressed state, but she's much better this time around. Mostly due to Rosalie's presence in her life. Rose spends much more time with Bella, which doesn't go unnoticed by Emmett. He may be a himbo, but he sees more than people think. Emmett sees the way Rosalie looks at Bella. It's the way she looks at him, but different, more intense.
If you love someone, set them free. Emmett decides to break up with Rosalie. They have a long conversation about this. Rose does admits her love for Bella, but has know idea if Bella feels the same way. Emmett loves Rosalie and wants her to be happy even if it's not with him. He thinks she'll regret it if she doesn't give it a real chance with Bella. Rose and Bella are both important to him in different ways and he wants them both to be happy.
One night at Bella's house Rosalie comes over while Charlie is working the night shift. Conversation is easy for the girls at this point and silence is comfortable. Rosalie finds herself looking at Bella constantly and finding excuses to be close to her. Which isn't difficult because Bella is very comfortable curled up against Rose as they watch a movie on the couch. Rose can't take her eyes of Bella's face. She studies the human intently, especially her lips. Rosalie very much wants to kiss Bella. Bella, more observant than given credit for, looks up to meet Rose's eyes. No words are spoken. Like magnets their lips are drawn to each other. Before they touch, Rosalie asks in a whisper "Can I kiss you?" To which Bella replies "Yes." Finally, their lips meets. Moving slowly and softly against each other. Rose has far more confidence in her control than Edward did, but she does not want to frighten Bella. So ever so slowly she deepens the kiss by tracing her tongue along Bella's lip. Bella gasps, letting in some much needed air, before kissing Rosalie again.

what makes me actually boil with rage is the way it’s framed as though jacob & the cullens have an even rivalry and like, he hates them just as much as they hate him, but like… jacob is a lower class kid who lives on the rez, the cullens live in a plantation home on private property. jacob calling alice a leech is an insult, but alice calling him a mongrel calls into power and privilege, ya know. like am i supposed to honestly think jake making blonde jokes to rosalie (which is certainly sexist and uncalled for) is on the same level as her serving him food in a dog dish? him seeing the cullens as bloodsuckers and murderers is just like, incorrect and unfair, but them seeing him as uncivilized and over-aggressive has implications deeply rooted in the oppression of his people

it was 2006 when bella and edward went to florida she should've been wearing a crop top and low-rise short shorts to show off her belly button piercing that renee absolutely talked her into getting the summer before she started high school and edward should have been so overwhelmed with lust he'd be practically mute the entire trip.

There was a post a few years ago about the things in Twilight which are actually pretty good - like how a human who has turned into a vampire might keep breathing, just out of habit, yet feel strange because there's no relief tied to the action, or how a group of vampires who don't sleep take it in turns holding a baby as she sleeps.
I'd like to add one to the list: in the final book, Bella says that she loves Edward and her daughter, but her new love for her daughter doesn't diminish her love for Edward, as she previously thought it might. I wonder if this is tied into the author's experiences with motherhood and concerns with jealousy and a baby getting the attention and affection that was previously reserved for a partner. Instead, Bella says she has more capacity to love, and it's quite a sweet passage. She says there's not enough time in the day to adore her daughter; not enough time at night to cherish her husband.
Anyway all of that is undermined by the fact that she named her daughter Renesme
