In my opinion, this is THE quintessential Red Hood debut fic. It’s got this one trope I love: regular civilians take a chance and protect their protector (it happens a lot with Spider-Man and its really great to see crime alley thanking Jason in the same way).

Tim has spent most of the week since he moved in locked up in his room, only coming out for meal times and sometimes to use the big TV in the media room, but the few words Jason has managed to extract from Tim show a bright kid who can clearly easily keep up with the best of ‘em, despite his young age. So he’s pretty sure he likes Tim, or at least will, with time.

AFTER:

Tim knows there’s something going on, and the worst part is that Batman isn’t even trying to pretend there isn’t something going on.

Stay out of it, he’d told him. Like something as big as a new player in town is something that Robin could stay out of. That Tim could stay out of.”

So so SO good. The story focuses on Jason and Tim and how they both join (or return, in Jason’s case) to the family. Both of them are characterized perfectly.

After Jason dies, he’s forced to watch his family grieve as a ghost. This gives him a new perspective when he returns to Gotham (which changes everything). I LOVE this fic. It’s suspenseful and emotional, AND there’s found family.

“Bruce Wayne is used to getting kidnapped. He's used to Gotham's villains hating him.

So why does this new crime lord come to his aid when he can't defend himself?”

Short and sweet. A little identity reveal fic because Jason Todd + identity reveal is my favorite combination of things. The fact that it’s told from Bruce’s perspective and you can see his slow realization… perfect!

Basically, Tim, Dick, and Bruce assume Jason is a hallucination because they’re all so fucked in the head that them hallucinating him makes more sense than like. Magic or something. Very good! I love it when characters are fucked up and sad.

“Not long after Jason comes back to Gotham and asserts himself as the Red Hood, Tim meets Jason in a diner late at night and by some miracle he doesn't recognize him. After another chance meeting where Jason still doesn't make the connection between him and Robin, Tim decides that this might just his chance to get to know Jason Todd.”

Pretty much exactly what it says in the description. Red Hood hates Robin, but he befriends the sad teenager named Tim. The secret identity thing causes issues which cause explosive emotions and slight agony for the characters!

This one’s more about both Jason and Tim “coming home” but I’m going to count it because I love this fic. In the end, they’re all together which is all I can ask for.

There was a moment of silence as the entire group stared at Red Hood, processing his words, and then Red Robin blurted, ‘Wait, you know Jason?’

‘Sure,’ Red Hood responded breezily, amusement written in the lines of his posture. ‘We got pushed into the Pit at the same time. He went a little crazy and fell off a cliff, but shit could only go up from there, am I right?’”

Basically Jason (as Red Hood) pretends to be his own friend and casually makes the batfam lose their minds. Very funny!

You have to have an ao3 account to read this fic (sorry) but if anyone wants to know how to make one I can help! This is a really great case fic. Batman doesn’t know who the Red Hood is, but their relationship is complicated from the start because he was able to do what Batman never could: kill the Joker.

I really love this fic because it shows vignettes of Jason’s life with his mom without shitting on her as a character. Also, it’s a bit different from the other fics here because it takes place after Bruce comes back from the timestream instead of at the beginning of Jason’s stint as Red Hood.

This fic is INSANELY well written. The small snippets of Jason and Damian’s time together are beautiful. It doesn’t have a happy ending necessarily, but you could probably interpret it as a happy ending!

Jason comes home but he’s still the Red Hood and there’s a WONDERFUL amount of secrets being kept. I like this one because it’s the opposite from a lot of the other fics on this list (in that the family meets Jason Before they meet Red Hood)

I love this fic SO much. It made me feel so many emotions… the buildup to Jason’s reveal is amazing and the reveal itself is perfect. The last chapter is (as of right now) not posted, but that chapter is an epilogue so the story is able to stand without it! A million out of ten, would recommend.

AAAAAAAAAGH THIS FIC. This fic is SO good. There’s a ton of interactions between Jason and the family when they don’t know his ID because they assume that Red Hood’s relationship with Jason Todd isn’t “of course I know him, he’s me” but something Very Different. Angst, humor, the whole shebang.

You lower your wine glass slowly from your lips to find the entire team staring at you.

“I uh - use men’s cologne sometimes.” You shrug, trying to play it cool, but the warming of your face tells you that you aren’t succeeding.

“Pretty girl, you’ve never smelt like a man.” Derek chimes out as Emily opens the bottle to take a whiff. Her eyes widen, and lock onto yours as the scent hits her.

“Em.” You warn, now frantic. She responds with a devilish glint in her eyes, smirk growing on her face.

“Smell.” She commands the rest of the team as she pumps the bottle to spritz the liquid in the middle of the living room. You watch in barely concealed horror as the scent particles descend upon the team, and realisation clicks onto each of their faces.

“That’s what Hotch smells like.” Spencer breaks the silence, voicing everyones thoughts as Penelope squeals.

You bury your face in your hands as the clamour of voices begin, each fighting for their question to be answered first.

What was the first part of your wip that you created?

I actually created a lot before I started writing because I never thought I'd accomplish writing a book. It's murky since I didn't document anything for around a year, but I'm pretty sure I created the clans first.

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

I made a post about this not too long ago. It'd definitely be Daughter by Beyonce

3. Who are your favorite characters you've made? Why?

I have two different answers. My favorite in terms of craft is Daron. I think she's a really unique character and I'm impressed that I'm managing to pull off her personality. My favorite in terms of likability is Aria. She's sassy and really fun.

4. What other pieces of media do you think would share a fan base for your story?

I hate to say this but My Little Pony.

5. What has been your biggest struggle with your wip?

Making it make sense. I have a lot of different concepts and sometimes I forget them or struggle trying not to overstuff my work.

6. Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

Yes! Aria has a wolf. It follows her everywhere and terrorizes people at her command. Daron also forms a bond with a horse.

7. How do your characters get around? (ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.)

Honestly, just writing it. I work so much on my other wip that I haven't had time to write much for this one.

Sadly, there are no animals.

My main character drives.

8. What part of your wip are you working on rn?

I don't even know. After I started at the beginning, I started writing random scenes from all over the story. I don't have chapters yet or any other sort of structure. I'm somewhere within the first draft, if you can call it that at this point.

The useless police.

10. What are your hopes for your wip?

I hope it'll create a change. I bring up several different types of racism and show their impacts. I hope reading about it will make people acknowledge its existence and try to change the system.

1 and 7 for the fandom ask game!

1. list 3 positive things about your current fandom(s)

Wincest fandom (rather than the entirety of spn) has been the greatest fandom experience for me for tons of reasons but here are few of em:

1) My absolute favorite thing would be how the fandom is still so alive even three years after the ending. New people join everyday, many older veterans are still around, many just deciding to come back. There's always some new take, analysis or just scenario that I haven't seen likes of, but also posts everyone has been rewriting in their own ways AND THAT'S JUST BEAUTIFUL. Everyone at certain point watching spn and losing their mind over one specific thing. It feel makes it so easy to feel connected no matter when you join.

2) The abundance of webweaving here. I know it's in general a popular tumblr format but I don't think I've seen it so rampant in one specific fandom the way it is in Wincest corner. The fandom had such history with webweaving and comparatives that even Siken mentioned it and this has lead me to discover many many amazing poems and literature.

3)This fandom is absolutely UNHINGED. Like I haven't seen a fandom so collectively deranged and the crazy part is that the morbid madness is not just for wincest but also ppl who are more strictly into weirdcest/platonic samdean. Ive seen enough nonshippers also obsessed the madness inducing fucked up thing between sam & dean and i love love that. But srsly Shipping wincest is a slippery slope into necro, gore, dadfucking, carfucking, cannibalism, stuff that in some previous fandoms i had much harder time to find group of people for.

7. your favorite tropes to read/write/draw

When it comes to reading, even begore spn i think my main food has been angst/whump/hurt no (or sometimes and) comfort, noncon and generally dark themes, feeling realization, first times, unrequited becoming requited, angst with happy ending, but also bad ending & character death and the NON-fixits that make things worse<3

But thing with sam & dean is that i become even open about thing i didn't like before??? Like i hated soulmate trope for certain reasons but with sam and dean im just, yep, soulmates. Domestic bliss & established relationships was so so boring to me but with sam & dean it can be sooo comforting (and even angsty in less traumatic way). I also doubled down on character death bc i want my boys suffering <3. God i DID NOT like anything involving parenting and children but i grew sooo fond of samdean parenting jack. and oh gen fics!?? I would read gen fics sooooo rarely before wincest but now i also madly love weirdcest that is genuinely gen with non-shipping goggles that go "fuck im not even making this up". AND omg I'll shut up but this one being sooo new for me but outsider oc or random mentioned character viewpoint. (That blurry wife pov fic and few others like that making me go insane) like i was never into oc fics but with sam & dean defining them through other lenses is addictive!!!

I wouldn't say hate, I found a new appreciation for him, but for a while it was Garrus from the Mass Effect games. His fandom is so fucking horrible, I can't even begin to describe how awful they are. It's not just me who felt this way, but a bunch of my mutuals too. They would hijack EVERY post mentioning the other Love Interests and make it about Garrus and/or hate on the other LI. And some of the most homophobic, misogynist and racist shit were spewed by Garrus fans, i.e. they'd turn femShep into his trophy waifu, or the rampant homophobia when people shipped him with maleShepard, don't get me started on how they'd talk about Jacob and it's still happening to this day. It took me a long time to go around playing the games and distance myself from the fandom. I'm cool with him now, though.

8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

hmmmmhmmm I can't really think of anything atm? But the one that irks me is when Em See You fans insist that Peter NEEDS an adult/mentor even though 99.9% of his other versions are fine on their own, and prefer to work alone unless it's something big that needs a team-up. I just dislike the entire "the Avengers adopt Peter" thing. It's. so. bleh.

lol that ties into my previous answer - the whole Peter gets infantilized bullshit. I don't see the appeal of one of the most popular superheroes who's done incredible things in various adaptations (including the Em See You) to be reduced into a bumbling useless toddler trapped in a teenager's body. It annoys me so much when people completely disregard his intellect, his adaptability and his superpowers, mainly his strength. He can lift buses for crying out loud. Like yeah it's a common thing to make fun of him, because sometimes he does act like an idiot despite being smart, but he still can do great things and finds a way to defeat his enemies by using his skills. And the whole point of Homecoming was that he shouldn't rely on others and trust in his own abilities to become his own hero. But it seems like the majority of Em See You fans decided to ignore it and still write him as this uwu baby boy. It's so grating seeing your favorite superhero being reduced into This Thing. We can discuss the Em See You's writing all night, but even in those movies didn't do that to Peter. He still did great things, and like I said, the whole point of those movies is him not relying on others, but becoming his own full-fledged hero. He is not a toddler in canon idk who started this trope but I'm gonna hunt them down for sport /j

For me, I like what Kody could have been, mainly in an "gotta catch em all" kinda way of FL being friends with all the elements (before Coworker of course).

Objectively he's a piece of shit, and with his canon storyline he's obviously unredeemable since he doubles down with the gaslighting and did that bullshit during the Inversion amongst other things. But I did wish when he was introduced that he could be part of the DAMN group in some way and not have the bridging assault storyline. Just be another of the potential romancible elements, you know.

He could reconcile with Damien and develop a healthy rivalry and banter with him, get to know Huxley and be embarrassed against his friendly demeanour, bounce off of Gavin with his flirting or something, be the calm against Laskos anxiety in a different way to FL (kinda like Coworker is but without the relationship). But we didn't get that, instead we got a Lody who's a complete cunt. Which is fine, cause Erik can do what he wants and Kody's character works for the story he wanted to tell. (Although sometimes I did think to myself "what if we got a non-canon audio where the gaslighting worked or something, kinda like a Bad-End audio" because angst is fun and otome games with that trope rotted my brain as a teen 🙃)

But I'm not saying I wish he never existed as he is, it was an entertaining storyline that helped me love Huxley as a 10/10 character, and he was a mild foil to the DAMN crew. It just means that I will mildy mourn the potential characterisation he could of had, and hate-love the characterisation we got.

TLDR: I love Kody's potential in theoretical storylines and canon-divergent fanfic, but hate him regarding his canon character, cause we're supposed to hate him.

I may be an anarchist, but I need some rules here.

Stuff I do write: hero x villain (supervillains, sidekicks and whatnot too), hurt/comfort, and I might post snippets of a story I'm working on and whump, fluff, maybe some crack, and romance!

Stuff I DON'T write: NSFW content of any kind, smut excessively dark whump (I get anxious with things that take it too far), incest, pedophilia, rape, emetophilia, and while I do write romance, suggestiveness is toned down and I don't write nsfw romance.

Do not ask me to write anything I said I don't write. It's pointless because I won't force myself to write it.

I don't write make-outs and kisses on the lips

You can totally use my writing for inspiration, as long as it's tagged as a prompt, you can use some lines, but just not the whole thing word for word, provided that it's tagged as a prompt. You can continue it, even if I've done a continuation.

Just keep writing, not everything will be amazing, but everything can be edited and rewriten

Red felt a tap on his shoulder, who would be bothering him this late? He turned to none other than the person he had been avoiding.

Green smiled up at Red. Red looked around for an exit.

“You’ve been avoiding me.” He stated flatly, a finger poking Red’s chest.

“Maybe.” Red said, looking away. He attempted to make eye contact with any of his pokemon to get them to create a distraction.

“It’s okay, I know why.” Green said, Red stuck his hands in his pockets and looked down at the ground. 

Instead of retreating, Green got closer right inside of Red’s personal space. He placed his hands on Red’s chest. Red was suddenly worried Green was going to push him. Was he angry? He wouldn’t have had any memories of the championship would he? Maybe he read up on it? Red knew he was physically stronger than Green, but Green had been hurt recently, and he really didn’t want to have to get into a fight with him tonight.

“I may not remember all of the events that took place to get us here, but there’s no way I could forget these feelings.” And with that Green crossed the short distance and pressed his lips to Red’s. 

Wait, what?!

Green pulled away and looked up at Red through his long eyelashes. He leaned up and pressed another chaste kiss to Red’s lips. 

“Sorry Red, I don’t remember anything about you except for how much I love you. I look at you and I get the warmest most wonderful feeling in my chest. I feel like I’m flying on the clouds when I think about you. I love you Red.” Green wrapped his arms around Red’s waist and laid his head against his chest.

probably kudos and hits, but really it's if i go back and reread it over and over again, everything i write is self indulgent so

nope i do it for fun, if it became a job it wouldn't be fun anymore, although i am published it's technical accounting writing, and i do eventually plan on getting my phd once princess is older, so maybe? But that writing is research not fiction lol

⌛ How long does it take you to write a fic, or a chapter?

I'm a ridiculously fast typer, 34 words per minute is my average, 10k is a typical length, but my achilles heel is that i skip around a ton from fic to fic, so it may take months to get a fic done even though it's only 12k words

🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?

I suck at writing battles, working on improving my smut skills though!

💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?

Yes, cried writing ode to my soulmate, Lost (cried a bunch on that one and ended up calling my cousin and we talked for a few hours because i miss him), then this one break up fic called RIP that i'm not sure how it's going to end, i usually write a happy ending but i might leave them broken up idk

💥 How do you feel about criticism?

I don't handle it well, i don't like it, it makes me not want to write even if it has good intentions, sometimes i'll read wips that stopped posting years ago, and i'll check out the comments on the last chapter and i'll see criticism and it pisses me off cause i think, 'hm did the author give up because of this shitty comment??'

❌ What's a trope you will never write?

Many, probably, but what comes to mind first is love triangle. I do read them sometimes, because they can explore some interesting things, it depends on how they are written, but just thinking about writing them makes me want to yell at the, eh, central character (? is there a word for them?) and sometimes the other two as well.

Okay, attempt number two! Although I often still struggle with them, my descriptions have improved quite a bit over the past years. Reading the amazing fic out there in the TWC fandom has definitely helped with that.

🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?

Putting this below a cut because I couldn’t decide and ended up with two snippets from old DA pieces.

“Guys, come on. This isn't funny. I always help you get out of your situations, you owe me.”

“He has a point there,” Fenris said. They seemed to consider what Garrett had just said. He waited, half in fear of what they would say next, half curious because things couldn't get any worse than his mother trying to set him up with someone he didn’t even knew anyway.

Isabela tapped her lips with a slender finger. “Hmm, let me see. I could ask some friends from the Blooming Rose to accompany you home, would that help?”

“No, we need something lasting. Maybe a few rumours that mention you have some contagious disease,” Varric said.

“I... I vote against that.”

“You could take me along to those parties you mentioned. I've been told I'm fun at those.” Fenris's tone was as dry as ever and Garrett chuckled at the thought of having his friend scowl at a room full of noblewomen.

“That's a terrible idea, really. You don't know how lonely and repressed those poor girls are. Having a mysteriously handsome elf accompanying Hawke—well, you can see where this is going.”

Rhiann opened her mouth to answer when a shriek pierced the sky. She cowered, covering her ears with her hands, eyes scanning the area for the source of the noise. Ahead, a piece of the ruins that had seemed to be a statue from this distance leapt into the air. Thank the Maker, it jumped away from them, into whatever lay behind those walls, and quiet settled around them once more.

Varric was the one to break the silence, muttering, “Please tell me your favour doesn’t involve--” He cast her a look, which she carefully avoided. “Shit, Rhiann!”

“I mean, I’m not sure.” Wrong thing to say, she realised when not only Varric, but Solas too scowled at her. “Dagna asked, wait, let me get her note.” She scrambled through one of the pouches on her belt until she found the scrap of paper that had arrived by raven some days ago. “Here. She wrote: ‘I just need to study a live varterral, first. A small one would do.’ Do you think that, ehm, that thing is a varterral?”

Solas sighed, closing his eyes for a moment. “It is.”

We're currently in LGBTQIA+ Tropes week and for today's prompt I decided to use...

Mentor in Queerness for Raevyn Maumahara

I've always seen Raevyn's species, the Tehiko, as a species that has a very special relationship with gender and even though Raevyn is cis and traditionally feminine, she would have those same beliefs. I also always wanted her to have a special relationship with Topa and so spun my own headcanons about Topa's gender long before it was actually addressed. You can imagine my excitement when I watched A Tale of Two Topas. But this fic doesn't take place then, it takes place around the episode Sanctuary.

“Thank you for watching over Topa again, Commander,” Bortus said.

“Oh, it’s really no big deal,” Raevyn replied with a smile. “Topa and I get along well. Don’t we, Topa?”

Topa only gave a weak smile. This confirmed Raevyn’s suspicion. The Moclan mind was hard to read, but she knew Topa well enough from many hours of babysitting to notice when something was wrong.

“Don’t you have better things to do than watch our child?” Klyden asked.

Raevyn knew that way of speaking too. But she overlooked his hostility and just said: “I think getting to spend time with Topa is one of the best ways I could spend my free time.”

Kill ‘em with kindness.

“We must go now,” Bortus declared, “or we will miss our gathering. Come, Klyden. - Be good, Topa.”

“Yes, papa,” Topa said quietly.

With that, Klyden and Bortus left and Raevyn stayed behind with Topa. Immediately, Topa moved over to the sofa and picked up his puzzle cube. Raevyn sighed and sat down next to him, watching him for a while.

“What’s wrong?” she finally asked. “Are you having trouble with your parents?”

“You could say that,” Topa said.

“It happens to everyone. You know, as we get older, we start to notice little things that never bothered us before and then when we talk about them, sometimes our parents won’t understand because they’ve been doing it this way since - well, since we were born - and they’re not gonna change that just because some inexperienced little rascal said so. Or they don’t like the person we’re becoming because we’re not growing up the way they expected. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just life. Part of growing up is forging your own path and bickering with your parents as you do.”

“Hmm,” Topa mumbled and stopped fidgeting with his cube. He looked up at Raevyn and put it down. “Papa has been telling me that women are inferior.”

Raevyn couldn’t help an ironic smile. It had to happen sooner or later. Klyden was… well, he was a very conservative Moclan. It was common knowledge that, unlike Bortus, he had little understanding and respect for women in higher ranks - or women in general -, especially women like Raevyn.

“But I don’t believe that,” Topa continued.

“Oh boy, am I glad,” Raevyn chuckled.

“Commander Grayson and Doctor Finn are both very capable.”

“They are.”

“And you… you are a hero!”

“Oh gosh.”

“You are! And a true warrior! Papa doesn’t think so. He says a man wouldn’t have gotten captured and injured like you.”

Raevyn scoffed. She looked at her right hand which was now made of shimmering metal. She would’ve loved to see Klyden endure torture and high-voltage currents, watching his body break before his eyes. Was that too sadistic? Maybe she did hate him. But she had to try to at least stay on neutral ground with him or he wouldn’t let her see Topa anymore.

“My parents had a bad fight over you a few days ago,” Topa said. “Papa said he doesn’t want me spending time with a crippled female.”

Raevyn felt rage cooking up inside of her but she swallowed it down. Crippled female. Was that all he thought she was?

“Ouch,” she finally got out. “... And what did Bortus say?”

“He defended you. He said you were a great warrior and a great Chief of Security. To him, you are a good influence to me and an example to look up to.”

Raevyn smiled. “And what do you think? Do you think I’m crippled?”

“No. Your endurance is admirable and… I actually think your prosthetics are fascinating.”

“Do you wanna touch them?”

“Can I?”

“Sure.”

Raevyn took off her uniform jacket and lay it on the sofa next to her, then she offered both her arms. Whereas her left hand had only gotten its fingers and palm replaced, her right arm was metal up to its elbow. Her neck was metal too, a fusion of Tehiko and Kaylon engineering, as were her feet. The battle had really taken its toll on her and it had taken time for her to adjust to her new limbs. But if she could use them now to entertain a child… Topa carefully touched the metal surface of her hand, looking at the different components of sleek design. Isaac and the others had really outdone themselves to make it remember her flesh hand.

“Can you feel this?” Topa asked, poking the middle of her palm, causing her fingers to slightly curl inwards.

“I can feel everything like Isaac can. It’s the same technology.”

“So you can feel hot and cold too?”

“Hot and cold too. Except my prosthetics can’t freeze or get burned, thank god.”

For another minute or two, Topa eyed Raevyn’s hands. Then, his eyes wandered to her neck. With an amused smile, Raevyn leaned back and let him touch the different metal platings.

“Did you know my voice is simulated?”

“It is?”

“Yeah, like a simulator character. A bit freaky to think about, to be honest.”

Topa nodded. Then, his eyes sank and he pulled his hand back, pondering something.

“Raevyn,” he finally said, “why does papa hate you? Is it just because you are female?”

Raevyn sighed and fully leaned back on the sofa, looking at the ceiling for a second. Then, she looked at Topa again.

“It’s complicated. Your father is a very conservative man. He believes in traditional Moclan morals and all that. Well, traditionally, Moclans and Tehiko don’t get along. There’s some things our cultures have in common, like our focus on the military and strength, but some things are wildly different and don’t really mix well. My homeworld used to be a matriarchal society, meaning women were the ones in power. We’ve moved past it now, but we used to be the polar opposite to your people.”

“Wow.”

“Yeah, but there’s another thing he probably hates even more: Since ancient times, we Tehiko have always had a very special relationship with gender identity.”

Topa furrowed his brows. “What do you mean? What is ‘gender identity’?”

“Oh, your father never taught you that, did he?” Raevyn gasped. Immediately, she started to feel a little nauseous inside.

“No, but I want to know. Please, tell me about what your people believe!”

Could she really tell him? A Moclan child? What would Klyden do if he found out? Then again, for the same reason that she maybe shouldn’t tell him, she simply had to, especially considering who Topa was and what had happened to him shortly after his birth. If she wasn’t going to tell him, who would?

“Alright,” she sighed. “But you have to promise not to tell your papa, okay? This is our little secret.”

Topa nodded eagerly and looked up at her with big eyes. So, Raevyn started explaining:

“Well, your papa probably told you that there’s only male or female, right? Nothing in-between. That’s already medically incorrect, but that’s not what we’re gonna talk about. What your dad tried to tell you about is someone’s sex. Their biological sex, what they were assigned at birth. Now, you were assigned…”

“Male.”

Wrong.

“Correct. But what matters is how you feel. That is your gender.”

“So…” Topa said slowly. “Someone could be male and feel like they are female?”

“Exactly.”

“Would they still be male?”

“No, they’d be female, according to my people’s beliefs, because their feelings are what matters. My people believe someone’s body to only be a hull, so someone’s sex is only secondary to someone’s true gender. Besides, with today’s medicine, you can change it at will anyways to match how you feel.”

“Amazing.”

“And people can’t just feel male or female either. They can feel like neither or both or somewhere in-between or outside of those norms.”

“Someone can be neither?”

“That’s right.”

“What would you call that?”

“Non-binary.”

“Non-binary… And if someone feels like a gender that isn’t their assigned sex?”

“That’s what we call trans.”

Topa looked baffled. Hopefully, it was the good kind of baffled. It seemed like he was catching on, at least. Hopefully, he wouldn’t spill anything at the dinner table and get in trouble with Klyden. But it was too late to back-pedal now.

“I should probably say that believing in someone’s gender is common sense among most Union cultures,” Raevyn continued. “But my species is especially open about it because we’ve had concepts like that firmly established in our society and culture for much longer than other species. Other cultures still have the gender binary pretty cemented, even today, and switching between or blending genders isn’t as common. We think of gender as something fluid - humans would say it’s a spectrum.”

Topa’s eyes were widened with excitement. He looked up at Raevyn and smiled. Then, his smile faded a little.

“Why do I have to keep this a secret?” Topa asked. “It is beautiful.”

Raevyn smiled, but she felt bad inside. She was proud of Topa, she really was. As if he were her child.

“You see, Topa,” she sighed, “if things went by me, you wouldn’t have to. But your papa… How do I say this…? Klyden wouldn’t be happy to hear you talk about it. He’d get very angry at you and me and I don’t want you to get in trouble with your papa because of me. He’s just not ready to hear it yet. Maybe, one day, he will be.”

They sat in silence for a second. There was something else that needed to be said.

“Of course, if you feel like you might not be male,” Raevyn continued, fighting with herself not to spill the secret she, too, had to guard, “you can’t go around hiding it. No one should have to hide who they really are. If that happens, you come talk to me again and we’ll figure something out.”

Silence again. But it was a comfortable silence. Topa smiled and nodded. Raevyn finally felt like she had said what needed to be said and had given Topa something to fall back on once he inevitably found out about his past. Or maybe he would never need this advice. But just in case he did, she would be there. Klyden would be their biggest issue, but she would find a way to deal with him. Besides, Bortus was there, too, and he would most likely be on their side if push came to shove. But that wasn’t something they had to worry about right now.

“Can I see your homeworld?” Topa asked sweetly.

“I’d love to show you,” Raevyn said, “but it’s a Saturday night. I bet all the simulators are taken.”

“Oh.”

“But we can look at pictures if you’d like.”

“I would love that.”

Okay first off I tend to get really hyperfixated on funny things that I can sandbox in, so wordgirl was bait for me ngl. Like it has so much potential for really messy, angsty bullshit I can explore while still being entertaining

My brain latched on to Becky because I love the idea of a kid's show main character canonically cramming lessons down other character's throats. It's so funny. Also she's really cute and sweet and acts like a lot of the little kids I work with

I also have a track record with being absolutely OBSESSED with like a broken/toxic mentorship trope, (see also Sunset Shimmer and Princess Celestia, Jinx and Silco, you get the picture) and when I was getting into this fandom and I re-learned the whole backstory behind Steven and people saying he was like her teacher and the whole deal with the Superhero's and You book I was done for.

Like dude this is exactly the kind of thing I LOVE and there was not enough content of it, so here I am, making my own needlessly overthought content. Also he's in a prime position to turn Becky to the dark side and I just, ksjdhflsjfk

RANDOM PERSONAL CONCEPTS I THINK ABOUT WITH THEM:

Becky does her best to not think about him because she's got debilitating "black and white" disease. She was taught to see good v evil and lives by that, but slowly as she gets older that worldview cracks, and she's forced to confront her own complicating emotions regarding him that she'd been suppressing for so long

Twobrains also does his best to not think about her AND the rest of his past life because parallels, but when he does get reminded of it all he feels an overwhelming and uncomfortable guilt. He hates that guilt more then whatever Squeaky will do to him, and kinda just passively allows Squeaky to shock him back into crime-brain

Twobrain's petty Jealousy he gets when Wordgirl is paying attention to other villains like in the episodes with Victoria and Steve Mcclean was there at first with Miss Power, but it was intensified because she positioned herself as a mentor. That jealousy quickly faded when he saw who Power truly was, because he trusted that WG would eventually come to her senses, it was just a matter of when.

Becky tells the henchmen to make DTB eat regular food sometimes on the downlow just so he doesn't shrivel up and die

Becky is 100% more athletic then Twobrains but he's better at specific skill-based sports and it drives her INSANE

Becky goes to him for help on random shit in exchange for cheese. She seems to suddenly go deaf when Huggy reminds her that she can ask literally ANYONE ELSE for help on this specific thing

Twobrains really really wants her to be impressed with his evil schemes. I know this one is canon but I needed to emphasize it

Oh, well, okay! So, I'm working on the sequel for "Neverland of (our) desires" called "Wasteland of (our) promises", and also it's going to be the three parts series with the last one called "Dreamland of (our) hopes". All of it is post-canon :)

Also, there's a fic in post-canon, non-related to the previous series, where Aruani didn't get together after the Rumbling, but, sure thing, have feelings for each other. But then during their Ambassadors trips Armin get sick, and, well…something is about to change 😏

🤗 What advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?

Not to be afraid! Just do it, write it what you want, how you want! Do it for yourself at the first place!

It's an ambitious dream, but I would like to be published and to be able to illustrate my own book with my drawings!

It all depends on chapter. Sometimes, I could write like 40% just in one evening, and sometimes I need the whole month just to outline the things. Now I'm quite slow due to my lack of energy, but I keep doing it because it's better slow than nothing at all.

🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?

I already answered it, and it's comedy. I just don't know how people write comedy, they're SUPERIOR.

All my published fic broke my heart in their unique ways possible, hahah😂

It's all about how it's delivered. If I understand that the critisisim is not biased on the subject facts like "I don't like this trope, so your writing is shit", so I'm all ears. I welcome it when it's polite and have arguments.
