It’s honestly a surprise when just a few days later, late in the evening, Tommy’s phone rings, and Evan’s name pops up. His traitorous heart beats a little faster when he answers the call and leans against the kitchen counter, where he’s been finishing up making a late dinner. “Evan?” he asks, confused but trying to play it casually. He’s good at that. He thinks years of pretending, trying to act straight, playing off gay jokes and even joining in to not make anyone suspicious made him way too good at acting cool and unbothered. He’s definitely surprised and excited, though. “Hey.” he smiles to himself. “Uh, hey- hi, Tommy, hey.” Evan stutters, and Tommy can imagine that flustered smile. “Hi.” Tommy greets him again, grinning now. “Gotta say, I didn’t really expect you to call.” “I- I know, I just- I wanted to talk?” he says it more like a question, then huffs quietly, takes a breath. “I was wondering if you’d like to grab a coffee. With me. Tomorrow morning?” he says, sounding nervous but hopeful. And Tommy- Tommy has had a very hard time trying to say no to Evan, especially when he doesn’t actually want to. Besides, they can be friends, if whatever potential for romance didn’t work out. He’d be fine with that. He’s friends with Eddie, anyway, so he’ll surely have to be around Evan sometimes, and he doesn’t want it to be weird. “If you’re not- if you’re not busy? “Yeah, okay.” Tommy responds, trying to ignore the excitement swirling in his stomach at just the thought of seeing Evan. “I can do morning. What time?” “Uh, how’s nine? There’s this place I usually go to- I can text you the location? Or we can meet somewhere you like, that’s totally-” “Evan.” Tommy interrupts softly, still smiling. Even over the phone, even still this nervous, Evan is just adorable. “I’m sure your pick is fine. Just text me, and I’ll be there. Tomorrow at nine.” he assures. He thinks if Evan wanted to meet right at this second, he’d be there in a heartbeat. Which is a surprising thought. He really didn’t want to get attached this fast, but there’s just something about Evan… “Okay.” Evan breathes out. “So- so I’ll text you.” he repeats. “And I’ll see you tomorrow.” “See you tomorrow.” Tommy says, before Evan stumbles through a goodbye and hangs up, and Tommy just chuckles to himself. He’s curious what Evan wants to talk to him about. But he also needs to be careful, because he can see himself falling for him so fast and deep and easy. He shakes his head at himself. He’s being silly and ridiculous. Evan makes him feel silly and ridiculous and giddy, and Tommy doesn’t remember the last time he felt like this.

and you know what the thing is, is i don't even think the biggest problem is going to be that buck's jealous. eddie knows buck. that's the love of his life, but more than that, he just knows him intrinsically. he knows how he is. he knows he gets insecure. he knows he has abandonment issues, like. he knows. he has never once hesitated to give buck assurance and he'll give it again (that scene in buck's loft in 7x05). the problem is going to rise when eddie's relationship with tommy is still a problem after their talk, and neither of them are going to know why. becuase from eddie's pov, it's going to be like, well now you're just being ridiculous. i already told you i love you (in so many words). i already told you we're solid, i already told you nothing's going to change and you're still being weird and i don't like it. and from buck's pov, it's going to be like. i realize we had this conversation, but i still don't like this relationship. i still want things to go back to the way they were. i'm still hungry for your attention and you're not giving it to me.

and so it's like. that's where the wires get crossed. because at some point, buck is going to have to examine his thoughts and feelings again, and he's going to be like, well this man and his relationship with eddie has been the only thing that's consumed my thoughts for weeks; therefore, i must want him desperately. and it's like. yes. solid thinking there, buck. definitely no other options it could possibly be. nuh uh. makes perfect sense. 1000/10 excellent problem solving, great job, buckaroo. dumbass.

#And there's also something to be said about Buck's reaction to hearing that Eddie and Tommy clicked because he's like... 'Yeah I know #exactly what that's like because (when I stopped being dumb) you and I clicked'#and considering Buck's brain I have to wonder if there's something there in the way he thinks Eddie processes his own relationships #as in: the key to having a good solid bestfriendship is clicking with someone right off the bat #so in Buck's mind he is (for lack of a better word) relegated to JUST friendship because he thinks that's how it is in EDDIE'S mind #So of COURSE he's freaking out about Tommy moving in on his best friend because as far as he's concerned #being best friends with Eddie is just about having a natural connection #and not about like. What you actually offer him. Which is so shallow. Buck knows him deeper than that #but he's so blinded by his own irrational paranoia (and queer feelings which are scary when you are a baby gay!)#that he doesn't even realize what the fuck is going on in HIS head since he's so focused on what he THINKS is going on in Eddie's #Bless his sweet soul i need to kiss him so bad like buck you're so fucking dumb let's make out #anyways

your post about eddie in this episode being seen through buck’s eyes… god i hope you’re right and it wasn’t just them writing their friendship badly haha

oh well, no matter what they definitely weren't writing their friendship badly! beyond eddie 'ignoring' buck there are plenty of other things that indicate we're only seeing eddie through buck's point of view:

namely, we never get eddie's point of view throughout the ep. we never see him alone with tommy, we never see him alone full stop, the camera never lingers on him long enough to give us any kind of indication of what he's thinking/how he's feeling, and for 90% of the ep every time the camera pans to eddie it's because buck is looking at him

and beyond that, with regard to their friendship, it's still very clear eddie is cares about buck. he's always happy to see him when he shows up unexpectedly to plans, he asks tommy if buck can come to the fight too, we find out through buck eddie is always inviting him to play basketball and he then goes on to ask chimney how he convinced buck to go since he usually says no, we find out through tommy that instead of being angry at buck for the basketball incident, eddie only feels bad because he understands why buck is upset.

imo, everything we got in this ep was very deliberate. eddie was both all over the ep and sort of outside of it too??? the latter because, again, we don't get his pov. the version we see of eddie in this ep is very heightened/exaggerated and i would say that's because everything he does/says is filtered through buck's feelings about him. but even still, his role (and christopher's presence too) in buck's life is clearly cemented by the end of the ep. tommy says as much when he tells buck that he could never replace him in eddie's life.

what happens in 7x04 (and in 7x05 next week) is new territory for buck and eddie and buck is understandably working through a lot but both ryan and oliver have already said in promo that it'll allow us to see them be there for each other in a way they haven't before and i personally cannot Wait to see how it all unfolds 😅

Let's talk about these episode titles...

I've been thinking about the episode titles of episodes 7x04 and 7x05 and how they are both titles of very specific songs. A lot of people have talked about this and I probably reblogged or liked most of these posts. :)

It might all seem like a bit of harmless fun and wishfull thinking, but if you look closer at the lyrics of these songs and you compare them to the episodes, a lot of things start making more sense. (Or I could just be clowning away, but in all honesty, I think we're onto something here.)

Let's start with 7x04: Buck, bothered and bewildered

This episode is shown from Buck's point of view and how he seems to be jealous of Eddie and Tommy's friendship, although it isn't very clear who exactly he's jealous of. At the end he reveals he wanted Tommy's attention, but Tommy doesn't seem to be too sure of that with his 'My attention?', which makes sense because Buck kept talking about Eddie and he kept peacocking in front of Eddie. We see Eddie from his POV, bubbly and happy, no care in the world and not really in tune with Buck's feelings of jealousy. Buck's feelings of abandonment rear up again.

To tie this in with the song 'Bewitched, bothered and bewildered', there is this specific part in the lyrics that talks about a 'half-pint imitation' of the real love the singer craves for. Now, I'm not saying that Tommy is half-pint 'anything', because he seems like a good guy. But it's the part about the 'imitation' that caught my eye. Throughout the entire episode Tommy and Eddie are compared to eachother. Even Buck talks about it.

They have the same interests, both are veterans and they even dress similar. In that sense Tommy is an 'imitation' of Eddie. And then Tommy kisses Buck. The Tommy that is so similar to Eddie, which begs the question: 'Exactly how does Buck feel about Eddie? Does he even know about these feelings?'

Now let's move on to 7x05: You don't know me

This episode seems to be more Eddie centered and I think now we'll see the story through Eddie's POV. He crashes Buck and Tommy's first date and it's clear from the stills he isn't sure what is going on, but he realises that 'something' is going on. I'm not sure what his initial reaction is going to be, because I think that he might be upset that Buck kept this big thing from him. But I also know Eddie would never do anything to upset Buck. I'm absolutely certain that he will support Buck dating Tommy.

However, let's take a look at the lyrics of 'You don't know me'. This is basically a love song about someone pining over the love of their life they let walk away. It's from a friend's POV falling for another friend, but being too afraid to tell them so they now have to see them walk away with another lucky guy. I mean, look at this:

This is pretty telling is you ask me and it's so Eddie-coded. He'll find out about Buck and Tommy, suck up his own complicated feelings about this, support Buck all the way and then double down on his relationship with Marisol. All because that is the only way he'll know how to cope. Eddie always makes bad decisions and disregards his own feelings when it comes to the people he loves being happy.

He tried to be with Ana, even through panic attacks, because he knew Christopher really liked her. He wanted that for Chris, but not for himself. Now he's going to do the same thing: He'll try to make it work with Marisol, so he won't have to face up to his feelings for Buck. He will put Buck's happiness before his own, because that is just how Eddie Diaz works and I love him for that. But oh, if I'm right about this, we're entering the 'heavily pining Eddie Diaz era' and I'm all for it.

How is it all going to turn out in the end? Well, I'm pretty sure that Buddie will happen sometime in the future, but it's going to take some time to get there.

ok, i love buck’s journey to self discovery (kinda like “you get to exhale now”, “you didn’t know this part of you but you are embracing it”. that is brave stuff, tbh), and i love LOOOOOVE tommy (his gentleness and his crinckley smile and just everything about him), and how much the actors care about it all. so i’m honestly gonna enjoy it for however long it plays out, gonna let them be and love every minute of it.

but if i may put my two cents in it, the way i see it, every “big” interaction buck has had about his bisexuality has been in his kitchen/home, with the conversation and that aghdjskshsj kiss (*dreamy sigh*) with tommy, and his coming out to eddie… (and well, also maddie’s kitchen, but maddie was, is and always will be home to him, united front).

so, what i’m thinking about, and most probably someone else has already said the same or a similar thing, is that when (please, don’t be an if even if i love love love tommy) eddie and buck get together, it will be in eddie’s kitchen/home, because even if his coming out is not everything about buck, this will be about eddie, eddie’s pov, just as the scenes in 7x04-7x05 are about buck (and hence his kitchen/home).

hopefully this makes sense (even if writing my thoughts are not my forte). i was just excited about sharing!

Hello, I hope you are having a good day. I was wondering if I could ask your thought and possible speculation for next episode. I've read what you've answered so I hope this is not a redundant ask.

I know and we all know that this is gonna hurt Buck to feel left behind to be replaced even maybe not feel good enough to be Eddie's friend (or more but my shipper heart need to calm down) and most of us realise that this is most likely, hopefully the time where buck is gonna realise that he feels more towards eddie. But my question is more regarding Eddie, what do you think happens in his pov? Like eddie doesn't have the same problems as buck regarding abandonment issues but he knows buck has them. You think he gonna realise them like during their basketball fight or after (that is gonna hurt to watch) or maybe someone will point it out? And if he realises it would he also go on a journey to realise his feelings or at least have him question why buck feel that and him wanting buck to realise that he should never think eddie will leave him?

And last then I'm stopping cause I don't want to be a bother, but what about Christopher? You think he's gonna be mentioned? Maybe Tommy mentioning him or something switch the flip for buck to start a fight (I know it's mostly and accident but I dont know how else to put it) or eddie uses christopher to anchor him (more episode 7x05 I guess then)? But that feels like the first one hurts way too much and the second like eddie would mask his feelings by using Christopher as a sort os middle ground/shield.

Sorry for the long ask is just that I ve always been the person whose friends preferred other friends and never picked for teams that sort of thing so just the sneak peak hurts to see and I wanted some insight and I've really liked your take on the whole thing. Also, fun fact the only person that did pick me I ended up marrying so eddie please take note lol

I think Eddie’s perspective is super interesting to get into this episode because I genuinely think that he genuinely doesn’t realise that buck could be jealous because in his head he’s reassured Buck so many times and he himself is so self assured in their friendship and their places in eachothers lives that I think it genuinely doesn’t cross his mind at first to even think buck may be jealous. Like you saw him in that sneak peak like he saw buck and started bouncing on his heels like OMG BUCK IS COMING? YOU SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED THATS SO GREAT!!!!!🥰😍👏🏽👏🏽

I think like when he sees the jealousy that seems to be apparently directed toward him over tommy(??) and also towards him having other friends that he’ll be a little pissed and hurt and confused inside but nothing like deep or angsty I think he knows buck enough to like understand how deep his insecurities lie and will very easily overcome this little conflict

I don’t think from his perspective he’d question buddie things based off of this because their relationship has always been different than other friendships and buck has always been very insecure in general so he may hash it up to that, but if buck were to point out that not only is he feeling replaced on a friendship level by Tommy and maybe mention something about Marisol it could cause a little 🤨👀👀👀 moment but I think that’s the secret optimist in me

Ah stop don’t worry about being a bother I legit love these asks, on the Christopher front I think that’d be hard to fit in but would be cool to see, like I think that based off interviews it’s supposed to be a very lighthearted episode so I’m not expecting an overt amount of angst. But Chris is such a huge part of Eddie’s life and this is a character driven episode so I can see them mentioning him. Also I sorta made a joke about this but I can see them not so subtly comparing player Chris at the start of the season to this funny little jealousy thing going on between buck and Eddie.

Again DONT APOLOGISE FOR THE LONG ASKS AND I WONT APOLOGISE FOR THE LONGASS RAMBLING ANSWERS (that’s a lie I will continue to do that but I’m a hypocrite) I totally get what you mean like that is such a shitty feeling but I don’t think that this episode seems to be that angsty so hope it’s lighthearted for you too when it airs. That last part was so adorable btw yes Eddie should take notes from you and your spouse 😌

so here's a bit of something short I'm wiriting for 7x05 from tommy's pov, idk what this is, what it's gonna be, but I wanna finish it tonight or maybe by the end of the weekend so posting it here to motivate myself and also tell me what y'all think bc the more i reread all of it the more i doubt myself lol

It took him some time, plus a lot of self-reflection and just taking it one step at a time, letting himself look at other men, this time consciously and sometimes deliberately, noticing how hot they are, how they make him feel. He let himself feel how they make him feel. It took a minute to stop feeling guilty and ashamed, and to rework all those internalized prejudices that had been ingrained in him his whole life.

He gave himself time, a lot of time, started with just chatting with guys on dating apps, later got the courage for some casual dates, and when he met the man who would be his first actual boyfriend, his first gay relationship, that he genuinely liked, he felt ready to pursue that. It didn’t work out then, that’s just life, but it was a good relationship, because he was ready for it. Now he feels settled and comfortable with himself, feels confident, and knows what he wants. And he wants- he wants love. He doesn’t want to put any pressure on any relationship he might start, but ultimately, that’s the goal. Love.

He really doesn’t mind being this first to Evan. He likes Evan. He has those bright blue eyes that seem to shine their own light, and that wide, excited smile that makes it impossible not to smile back, with that adorable dimple accompanying it, that makes Tommy melt a little every time he sees it. Plus, those perfect, kissable lips he can’t wait to taste again, and the distinctive birthmark just adding to the charm. And he’s big and strong and so hot, too. And he’s just so nice, and so adorable and endearing, and he’s so easy to talk to. Tommy just wants to keep getting to know him, spend time with him, develop this relationship and see where it can go. And with any luck, maybe this one could last, could be something real.

The thing is, Tommy is ready for serious. He can take it slow, give Evan time to figure everything out, but he’d also like to know where he stands. He would never want to pressure him to come out before he’s ready, but he also knows he doesn’t want to be anyone’s dirty little secret. Been there, done that.
