I agree with the other anon — for as long as I’ve been in fandom, I never expected any queer ships to become canon so I’d mostly just be reading fic to get my fill. Seeing things like bi buck or Aziraphale and Crowley on good omens having a big damn kiss, diverging with their original book portrayals w the author agreeing with them as a couple, or something like ofmd is so radically wild (and awesome to me) it’s also still sort of strange (in a good way) to see buddie and bucktommy being actually mentioned in mainstream interviews seriously (like how people discussed, for example, Meredith and Derek vs Meredith and Addison on grey’s anatomy back in the day) and not as a ha ha punchline or like at a wink at viewers. I think that’s all really good progress, but it’s definitely interesting to see.

Yeah, it's interesting, and, like I said, as someone who is definitely not used to this, it's also... I don't want to say scary but it definitely makes me apprehensive. I'm not used to having such a big spotlight thrown on my ships / my fandom like this, and it feels very "bug under a microscope" you know? like. Okay! Cool. Yes, this is a very historic moment, but also please get out of my house and put me back under my dark rock. The scrutiny inherent to being on the ground floor of such an iconic and fundamentally shifting episode of television is certainly... an experience, that's for sure.

i think personally i've been so conditioned by shows giving us nothing that i'm just indifferent to the buddie vs bucktommy canon debate. i'm happy no matter what because i'm used to only getting these queer ships through fanfic and fandom with the shows i've watched before. the fact that we got bi buck this far into the show brings me so much joy that even tho i desperately want buddie i'm completely content with just having a canon bisexual man.

Yeah, and like, Nie @gayhoediaz said it in her tags about fandom moving in generations, and this is another way in which the difference between generations is SO fucking obvious, like. When I was a teenager, it's like you said, fic was literally all we had. We would have to dig through books and shows just to find any kind of queer rep which is why some of the things we passed back and forth were more about the rep than the actual quality of the thing. But it's not like that now. Now, kids have more options. They get to be picky with what kind of ships they want and in what kind of shows, and that's a good thing. But it's definitely different from when we were growing up. So I think grace and understanding is needed on both sides tbh.

Anyways. I really feel this. I want Buddie. I love Buddie. Buddie is the only thing that makes sense. But I really fucking love having Buck as a canon bisexual and that means more to me than anything. I still can't believe it when I say it out loud. You know? like. Wow. We're here and this means a lot in SO many ways. So. Yeah. I get it, anon. I definitely get it.

the other thing is. i think people in this fandom—as in, people who have been here for years—are unaware of the fact that bucktommy is the Main Ship for some people. like, bucktommy isn't just their gateway drug it's their otp. a lot of buddie blogs are multishippers and are, thus, buddie AND bucktommy girls (gn) but, like, there are some people out there who don't give a fuck about buddie because bucktommy was, like, their first introduction to the show and, as such, these people are going to want them to be endgame. you know? like. i'm making this post because i think there's a strong disconnect in perception as to what is happening in our fandom lol. buddie shippers, those of us who have been here for years, tend to view bucktommy as, like, a temporary ship because we know/believe in the strength of the narrative that has consistently led buck/eddie to each other. but no for some people, bucktommy is just where they live and they're happy there and they will always be there and it's not temporary, it's their endgame and they are always going to want them to be endgame even after buddie goes canon. so. you know. weird! something to think about right? huh!

this is not in bad faith, im curious: how do you view those who actively are against a ship that counters theirs compared to those who are just totally indifferent to the countering ship and don’t dislike it but don’t like it either

my perspective is: you can love whatever you want, you can hate whatever you want. hell, you can even be neutral about whatever you want. just don't be a dick about it. i am too damn old to be worried about what other people are doing on their own blogs in their corner of the internet. so, to answer your question, i don't feel any kind of way about anybody unless they're an asshole. i don't like assholes, no matter which side of the ship war you fall on. keep your anti shit out of fandom tags, don't argue on people's post, don't leave nasty shit in reblog tags, and be fucking respectful. it's not that hard. you know?
