If you are running a poll tournament blog please be kind to yourself and turn off anon.
You are going to get anon hate because a lot of people on here are very rude, and you don’t need to subject yourself to that. This has happened to literally every tournament on here with anon on.
Save yourself the trouble, take away the option, and if people still want to cause trouble they can say it with their chest and get blocked.

Controversial Character Tournament Round 2: Light Yagami from Death Note vs Edelgard von Hresvelg from Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(remember that these characters are fictional and your fellow tumblr users are real. please be normal in the notes, i will not hesitate to block if you harass people)
Propaganda under the cut, may contain spoilers:
Light Yagami:
LOVE: - "He does some messed up things but have you considered: fucked up protagonists rock :)" HATE: - "this man makes me sick. ive genuinely had manic episodes over hating him. i have trauma from his existence in general. not even because of the murder. because hes a sexist cheater :(" - "My cousin and I frequently debate this. I think despite his 'intentions' he's ultimately a despicable character who cares for nobody but himself. She disagrees and says that he is just trying to do the right thing and making a difference in the world (she still thinks his actions are wrong, but she doesn't think he himself is despicable)" BOTH: - "I mean cmon man"
Edelgard Von Hresvelg:
LOVE: "People either claim she's the hero or the irredeemable villain with no in between. She's also my lovely wife who has never done anything wrong in her life." "I never even finished her route and remember nothing of what happens in that game but I DO remember the absolute warzone the fandom turned into because of her. She staged a coup and overthrew the head of the government/church and I think that's pretty cool of her. "But she committed war crimes!" God forbid women do anything." "I lied in the previous question. I don't hate her or love her in fact I have never even played this game. But I keep finding people making up Discourse™ featuring wild accusations of bigotry towards both Edelgard fans and Edelgard haters so I feel that she belongs here. (Also my friend hates her. but HER friend loves Edelgard. So even in my small social circle there is a clear polarization.)" "ok I don't have any solid propaganda because my opinion of her is more positive-neutral, but. she fits the spirit of this poll. trust me." "[three houses spoilers] Yes she started a war but it was the only apparent way to break the chokehold the church had over everyone in Fodlan. Also she’s the only lord you can gay marry so I’m hopelessly biased" "every time i go into the tag its either "edelgard is perfect no notes!!" or "edelgard is literally a fascist!!!". ive never seen someone with a neutral opinion of her. i yearn for battle." "I know very little about her to be quite honest! But good god. As a fire emblem fan for the GBA and engage. I have NEVER seen such a decisive character like Edelgard. Jesus Christ. I still find stuff in those tags. What the hell!!!" "I don’t even go to Fire Emblem but even I know that Edelgard has never done anything wrong, ever, in her entire life, and that if she did any war crimes they were a SUPER effective use of girl power. source: I am a lesbian. (realtalk I genuinely love a noble-minded extremist revolutionary and think Edelgard is a great character, so it’s kind of a shame that opinion on her seems to simply split down the line of “whether the person wants to kiss Edelgard or Dimitri more.”)"
HATE: "So on the one hand, she's fully willing to kill and burn and murder her way to a "better future" at the expense of the present, but on the other hand she's pretty cool and #girlboss. She's also a canon gay romance option, but idk if that makes her more or less problematic." "I just. I understand why people like her. I really do. And I don't have anything new to say for why I dislike her. Edelgard fans and stans have heard everything. She has great points and motivation, but her methods are wrong. She hitches her ideals to the first good opportunity and never reconsiders her allegiance when things go off the rails. She hates the church for "lying to people" and proceeds to lie to her own populace herself in her own route. She gives Claude an opportunity to live because she knows he believes in her goals. But Dimitri and his Kingdom are too beholden to the church to ever be offered such mercy. She herself acknowledges that the change she wants to see is more quickly enacted through war than subtle and slow societal change. She recognizes the human toll of her actions, but she justifies it through flowery language and an insistence that the change needs to happen now or it never will. I honestly find her so interesting, and I agree with a lot of her thoughts about the need for societal change in the world of FE:3H. But people latched onto her and propped her up as someone who can do no wrong. And that just never sat right with me. I just think she’s a hypocrite who got put in front of a shiny means to her end and was immediately blind to every other opportunity around her." BOTH: - "I dont even play fire emblem but I cant escape people not shutting up about how much they love or hate her" - "You said there were no hate answers for her...and I don't really hate her so it wouldn't be right but I wanted to balance things out some. She's the perfect storm of a character who sounds right and progressive and has a route all to herself that doesn't contradict that...but once you play other routes, it becomes clear she's kind of. full of misinformation. And attacking people who don't deserve it. Also a LOT of the divisiveness I'm willing to blame on the writers rather than her, for having her both be Evil Tyrant we NEED to take down and Sad Uwu Baby who just wants to eat cake and laze around and loves You the Player SO MUCH."

Round 1, Group A: Matchup 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirito vs Kim Dokja (these two were in last year's tournament too!)
Reasons for being generic + Propaganda below
Kirito
Reasons:
The definitive Isikai bot
He is literally the template of modern generic anime boys, every same-y looking isekai boy who came after him being based on him. He is the boringly-designed god to which they all pray.
THE most codified generic anime boy. The guy you think of when you think "Generic Isekai Protagonist". That's HIM. He may not be your fav but he's still the first to come to mind
Propaganda:
Tumblr media
Gamer.
I’m honestly fond of him. He learns to have friends and it’s nice.
Kim Dokja
Reasons:
Everything about him screams generic. Generic hair generic face generic eyes (dare I say: generic name). Multiple times in the story he tried to pass himself off as one of his (much handsome-r) companions and everyone is like. Hmmmm I'm not too sure about that. I've heard he's a lot more handsome and you're kind of mid. There's practically a running gag wherein his closest companions say something like "wow kdj has anyone ever told you that you're ugly"
Chapter one he tells us that he’s an ordinary salary worker with no friends whose most interesting hobby is reading webnovels on the subway. This hobby proves to be useful thanks to the entire plot of the story but there is a running gag that people think he looks mid or can’t remember what he looks like at all
Propaganda:
"Hi my name is Kim Dokja :) no there isn't anything weird or off-putting about me :) I am a perfectly normal man :)" <- real quote from Kim Dokja seconds before doing something weird and off-putting Jokes aside he is. Very very generic. It's an actual element in the plot that he's generic. He also keeps trying to convince everyone else he's just some normal dude but he's NOT and they DO NOT BELIEVE HIM He also keeps trying to pass himself off as his much more handsome companion and it only works because they've never seen him before (there's at least three paragraphs every time this happens of "hm no I heard YJH is really handsome. This guy is kind of ugly ngl")

hello! how's your day? so how was your experience at your harry potter dr? like, day to day in the castle, and outside of it? if you lived the events of the books, how was it??? especially the triwizard tournament and the battle of hogwarts i'm DYING to know what it's like to be in the middle of all this mess.
Dementors, have you come close to any? a chamber of secrets! what it was like to be at school during that? how is the castle?! many people talk about the feeling of home, is it like that there or is it just a castle? have you seen the magical world outside the british bubble? if so, anything interesting?
I see that you have experienced all four houses, do you have any preferences and comments on the differences? if you were close to the golden trio, what are they like? flew on a broom? how it was? TIME TURNER!! if used... comments? what is it like to write with a quill? I don't see how I wouldn't have horrendous writing on this dr honestly
seriously, any detail would be amazing and I'm so sorry for so many questions (english is not my first language btw) hehe 😗
Hi :) My day has been great!
Oh goodness... I don't know if I've said this before but a big reason why I had four separate DRs for HP was so I could experience different versions of the reality! For instance, in the Gryffindor and Slytherin DRs, the main plot of the books and movies here was happening but in the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw DRs nothing was really happening (ie Voldemort didn't exist so we just chilled). Because of this, my experience in each DR was drastically different.
Day to day life is basically exactly what you see in the movies (at least for me it was)! You go to classes, you have some free time, you're able to chill around the school or in your dorm, etc. Every now and then something exciting or scary happens but it really was mostly normal school life (when you aren't getting into life endangering bullshit of course).
I was only in the Triwizard tournament in my Slytherin DR and for me it was more like the movies than the books. It's very intense though! Stupidly dangerous too. The most frustrating thing was not knowing what the tasks would be (I scripted to forget that little tidbit - big mistake on my part). The entire school gets swept up in the festivities, gossip, and betting on who's going to win though and that's actually fun. Not to mention the literal parties when the winner was from Hogwarts. It was really cute to see all four houses come together to cheer on the champion from Hogwarts, regardless of house rivalry.
The battle fucking sucked man 😭 Visually, it looked exactly like the movie! I remember being surprised at how hot it felt? But it was terrifying... I actually did remember the outcome of the battle while I was there but even then the adrenaline rush, fear, and anxiety I felt was so bad. I was genuinely scared that I was going to die or that people who "weren't supposed to die" were going to die even though I knew for a fact it wouldn't happen! I also scripted out certain deaths (like Fred and Sirius) but when it came time for Fred's death, I was really scared he was still going to die (he didn't). Idk... I've been to quite a few "scary" and dangerous DRs but I don't think I've ever felt that scared or anxious about a DR when I knew what was going to happen. I definitely recommend intending/scripting some fucking chill pills cause goddamn 💀 I had absolutely ZERO reason to be panicking that fucking hard
I have come close to Dementors! First, they smell like dead bodies. I don't know if that's in the books, but that's what it was like my all of my DRs. Gross. And by dead bodies, I mean the rotting variety. Stinky. They're also very cold! I think that's canon? When you get near them, it's... freezing. I remember reading a book about them and there were multiple documented cases of people getting frostbite from being near them.
During the chamber of secrets, well, I knew what was happening so I wasn't that concerned tbh. It was definitely scary but I also knew that everything would be okay and that no one was actually going to die. I was mostly worried about trying to tell them what was going on without making anyone suspicious of me.
I did get that feeling of the castle being home! While there was definitely a feeling of nostalgia, it also just happens naturally since you spend so much time there. It's literally a boarding school where you spend the majority of the year living, of course it's going to feel like home. It's really nice :)
I actually didn't see much of the magical world outside of Britain! I did travel to some places of course, but I didn't get a good grasp on other magical cultures. I actually plan to go back one day to travel more!
When it comes to the houses, I enjoyed my time in all of them! They all have their pros and cons hahah. I was surprised to find that Slytherin actually felt a lot more friendlier than I thought. They seriously value family and loyalty - once you're in Slytherin, you've got friends for life (whether you like it or not tbh). Ravenclaw was also a lot chiller than I thought it would be! Hm... I'm not really sure what else to say so let me know if you have specific questions about the houses :)
I got close to the golden trio in all of my DRs :) Personally, I was usually closest with either Harry or Hermione (sorry Ron), though there were a few times in my Slytherin DR where they didn't trust me. That hurt a little but I understood why so I wasn't that sad. As for their personalities, they were more like their book selves than their movie selves but every now and then something from the movie would slip out. (Like Ron being a little more naive in the movies happened a lot during the fourth year.)
Flying on a broom is amazing!! Definitely recommend shifting there just for that honestly. I mean I love flying anyway so maybe I'm biased but it's an incredible feeling, especially once you get the hang of it. I didn't expect to like quidditch since I'm not much of a sports person here, but I ended up really loving it just because I love flying so much.
The time turner was fun! A little disorienting though... I felt nauseous the first time I experienced it. But you get used to it really fast and it feels normal after the first couple of times.
Writing with a quill is just like it is here hahah It's definitely different than writing with a pen or pencil, but you get the hang of it. Just be careful with ink pooling and you'll be okay :)
I hope this answers all of your questions! This got a lot longer than I expected hahah

i realized this talking about it with somebody the other day, but wrestling interviews tend to be extremely frustrating for me.
every time i read an interview by a promotion or a major content mill wrestling site it just makes me realize we still haven't shaken the MMA curse. we're still in the times where a major article on a character worker has to be like "mmmmmaybe wrestling....is art??????!!! BUT ONLY MAYBE" because they don't wanna offend the oldheads who think this "shit goes so hard" and that it has nothing else to say. like those dreadful articles about sukeban by artnet and vogue just proved that yet again. wrestling has such a high glass ceiling and it's still seen as a dumb sports where ppl hit each other until one of them can't get up anymore, despite the literal near fatal efforts by all kinds of wrestlers all around the globe to make the mainstream see that it is a legit art medium with stories that go deeper than "i don't like you" or "you beat me in the last tournament" (it's received heavy praise from fans due to the supposed """right direction""" it will shift the company in, but if i personally ever see the phrase SpOrTs BaSeD pReSENtatIOn again i might throw up). don't even get me started on how little attention joshi stories receive.
interviews are just one victim of the curse. the questions are boring. they just are. western interviews are almost all shoot-ish interviews and in 99.99% of cases there will be 2 maybe 3 lore based questions that ACTUALLY ask about the character and the stories they are in (shoot interviews are cool dgmw. it's cool getting fluff and tidbits about your fav! but if it's all there is it's literally so unsatisfying). japanese interviews are shackled by the kinda sorta taboo of discussing shoot topics (unless you are kaminoge, god bless em), which can actually be rewarding and fun if you fully dive into kayfabe and corner the characters but even weekly pro with their stiff adherence don't seem to understand what that means. like there are so many things that a character worker will do or that will happen in a story, and nobody asks about them. nobody even thinks about bringing them up despite them being immensely lore relevant. there is only so many times i can read "what are your plans for the future?" before i keel over.
which is why i'm so happy every time i see an interview that actually does care about the characters and the art of it. an interview or q&a that has respect for the performers beyond their accolades. it takes time and effort to do that and swim against the stream, so those types of efforts will always at the very least have my interest and support.

@paintingtheice so I totally meant to post this yesterday and then fell asleep editing/adding on to this. This is not the essay on gendering Sidney Crosby we’ve talked about in dms it’s instead a different fandom essay that I started writing in my head half as a convo and then said fuck it essay time. @podcasts-8-my-heart this is also dedicated to you saying you’re proud of me for writing 2.5k+. I’m proud of you.
So I was thinking on my bus ride into work this morning (yesterday - yes it’s been a day this got long don’t look at me like that) about hrpf and SidGeno and some of the shifts I’ve seen fandom go through in my time following hockey. There are a million and one little reasons why things have changed and many of them can simply be chalked up to the passing of time; new information gets revealed, new events happen, roster turnover, and fandom/writer turnover. One thing that I think about a lot is when fic is set in relation to “canon.” The relationship with canon in hrpf is both deeper and more divorced than other fandom, but stay with me I’m gonna pull a bunch of words out my ass and hope it makes a lick of sense.
The first talking point/part of this thesis is recency bias. People are way more inclined to favor recent events over the past. You see this in the actual fandom with people reacting to losses or saying “we never win against [team]” when we have in fact won against that team as recent as last year. It’s this sort of bias that causes us as readers/writers to read something current and assume it’s always been this way and then experience cognitive dissonance with other depictions of the characters that are older or simply different. “He would not fucking say that.” Well once upon a time maybe he did. Maybe it’s out of character now, but back then it was the defining character study for how fandom understood him and you need to sit down and actually look at what people were saying. Maybe it was never in character but the author committed to being ooc and you can see how our understanding has drifted closer or farther away in the years since.
The second talking point is that when fandom isn’t reacting to current canon it has a tendency to latch on to specific parts of canon and not let go. I’m quantifying that as “events”. Fandom hates filler but it loves a plot point. In hprf in general and sidgeno specifically you see this in a lot of different ways. How many stories have been written about [insert team]’s cup run? The Olympics? I’ve read so many fics about 2015 Worlds despite never reading hrpf before 2016. We love an event. Do we actually care about every game of the season or tournament tho? Not really unless something specific to progress the plot or characterization happens. Geno visiting Sid at when they’re supposed to be enemies is more important than whoever Canada beat in the round robin.
Anyway this is all introductory backtracking because the original thrust of this essay was defining to myself the “when” that people write about. My brainstorming had it separated into the nebulous now, right fucking now when I (the author) wrote this, events events events, the vague future, the past aka when they were Youths™️, the generalized timeline (y’know, canon?) - usually characterized in hrpf by events, milestones, and team personnel, and timeline what timeline.
Are you saying to yourself, gee she just listed a bunch of stuff I hope she defines it. Well good for you, that’s literally the rest of this monster. Buckle up I’m about to say way more words. I do not think I’m 100% accurate perfect no notes. I’m sure parts of it are bullshit. But hey I’m gonna close my eyes and post it anyway.
1. [Nebulous Now] - Hey remember that paragraph on recency bias? Welcome to recency bias the fic setting. In my head, the nebulous now is +/- the last two or three years. It’s set around present day* or going back only as far as the author was engaged in fandom. You’ll probably know when it’s set based on team makeup, season highlights, major events, but it’s basically meant to be set now. It may care about schedules and specific details but reserves the right to throw it out the window if it feels like it. The problem with being set now is when you run across a fic that is 5, 10, 15 years old and is supposed to still be set in whatever the current year is.
*when the fic first started being written
2. [Right Fucking Now] There is nothing nebulous about when this fic was written or what it was written about. These are usually smaller fics** where inspiring event happened anywhere from the day the writer started writing to at most a month or two ago. Usually precipitated by X did Y in Z game against team A and got celebratory gangbanged in the locker room about it. (Y being goals, hat tricks, fights, ect.). You can’t get more specific than this baby. Fics set before/during/after a specific game fit here. All Star Game fics written around the All Star Break are here. Milestone events are here, for example Tanger and Geno’s 1K games. Fics written immediately in reaction to stuff like Contract-gate go here. Most playoff fic that references specific events or was written during the playoffs falls under here. The main clarifying point is it wasn’t written very long after the fact. Anything written now about last years All Star Game, Contract-Gate, Sid slutting it up at worlds and the Olympics, all fall under a different category. Which is a great segue to my next one.
** I said usually smaller but sometimes an author decides to write a big fic about the narrative arc of the season and we love them for it.
3. [Events Events Events] - This is probably the one that is the biggest broadest category and the one I have the hardest time narrowing down despite having more examples than I can shake a stick at. Simply put, this category is for fics that are concerned with a specific event, usually big, but sometimes small. This can be any event that stands out in a reader/author’s head. Generally the fic was written after the event happened from a place of knowing how everything shakes out in canon. These fics can feel different because the we walk in already knowing the start and stop and major events of the fic. From the reader’s perspective the event is over but the characters experiencing the event don’t know it.
SidGeno/Pens Examples include: World Juniors. The Olympics/the golden goal/Sochi. The cup runs are a subcategory unto themselves but the playoffs/finals are a big event. Major injuries like Geno’s knee surgery and Sid’s concussion. Duper’s retirement tends to be a foot note in cup run stories but it’s a small event. Trades def count since there are absolutely stories about the before/after of a trade. Vegas & Seattle Expansion Drafts. The lockouts (05 & 2012). I’m ignoring that the pandemic-stoppage is also under this cause I don’t like reading about it. Contract-gate is a recent example. Basically if you’re asking “hey does this event count as an event” the answer is probably yes because you’ve remembered it. If you can point to something specific on the timeline and zoom in on it then it counts.
***this one I keep tweaking it’s definition and I’m still not 100% happy. I just keep thinking about all the fic I’ve read in other fandoms that feel beholden to canon in ways that I end up bemoaning the lack of creativity. Nobody says it has to happen this exact way every time but authors who claim to hate that installment still faithfully recreate it every time.
So we’ve had now, and we’ve had the events that everyone (or just you) remember, what’s next is literally what’s next.
4. [Vague Future] - Quite literally 1, 5, 10, 20 years in the future. Next season fics. Retirement and post-retirement fics. Their kids getting drafted fic is this. Anything that makes you think further ahead than the end of the current season is probably in this category. It’s vague because who the heck knows if it ends up true or not. There is of course overlap with the Nebulous Now because its nebulous. Since everything is set vaguely now-ish, it’s hard to tell when now starts becoming the future. The season just started and all through the preseason I saw people talking about who they think is going win the cup this year. There’s so much hockey to be played still. The future is vague but it will eventually become now.
Also remember it’s all about perspective. There’s tons of movies set in the far distant future of the late 2010s and they don’t match up to our lived reality. Going back to the comment about cognitive dissonance, sometimes you aren’t writing about an event from a place of knowing; sometimes it’s just your best guess or heartfelt wish. It’s so easy to say “oh that’s an au” when maybe it wasn’t an au when it was written, maybe it was intended to be accurate to the author’s best guess. Sometimes fics from the past were set in the future but that time has been passed by life and going back to read them is weird but cool. It’s interesting to see where people thought the boys were going vs where they are. Who could have guessed the core would have careers this long or decorated but they have.
Speaking of writing from a place of knowing; this next one is sort of a subcategory of events, but was a specific enough setting of fic I wanted to call it out.
5. [Youth™️] - This is anything where they are children. It may be well research but for the most part it’s probably non-accurate outside of the broad stokes. It’s the prologue and chapter 1. Pre-canon and the first 20 minutes. Kid!fic. It’s all about the kids in this one. This is the start of the story and the time before that.
Hrpf examples include anything about juniors, Sid’s time at shattuck, and World Juniors. For SidGeno I’d probably include the 03 to 05 drafts. Can include Sid’s first year in the NHL and Geno’s flight from Russia and his first full year in the NHL (that’s the hard cutoff for me personally). You could potentially argue up to and including the 08 & 09 cup runs as like the climax of them being young NHL stars, and yeah sure I’m not a cop write whatever you want if it makes sense to you then it makes sense. I don’t think Sid getting drafted is a bad place to start a fic, especially if you’re doing an AU. There’s always a good argument to start at the beginning of the canon story.
I’m highlighting this because holy crud the number of fics I’ve seen from other fandoms that don’t even like the early material but start at movie 1 scene 1/book 1 chapter 1 anyway. It’s fanfic we don’t have to start at the beginning. You can, but its not necessary. I personally struggle with fics that don’t change anything in early canon but require you to read their version of it anyway, but I’m just one person. You do you.
This next one doesn’t have a snazzy name because look sometimes there’s a timeline and you wanna write something that encompasses it. If it’s granular I’d say you’re talking about Eventsx3 or Right Fucking Now. Overlaps with Youth™️ because you have to start somewhere and Nebulous Now because now is on the timeline. If there are expected events on the timeline like retirement from professional sports, that’s the vague future.
6. [Timeline] Sometimes authors want to care about the timeline or the fic is set over weeks, months, years. Most canons have a specific set timeline and hrpf is no different. However ours is actual literal years rather than something someone created and is thus easy to navigate. For my examples I’m generalizing over the span of months and years and then grouping by big events rather than calling out any one specific event.
[the early years] Anything from Sid’s first year to the 09 cup. Let’s be real here, most authors either write incredibly detailed fic about the whole timeline, or they’ll only write about Sid or Geno’s first full NHL years or the 08-09 cup runs. Everything else is usually glossed over. The babies era. Youth™️
Events include: Sid and Geno’s drafts. The 05 lockout. Geno fleeing Russia. Losing streaks. Mario’s return and retirement. Flower and Tanger getting called up. Sid living at Mario’s. Geno living with Gonch and learning English. Sid being named Captain. Hard cutoff is after the 07-08 and 08-09 cup runs.****
****You can argue that the 08 & 09 cup runs are their own subcategory but this is already long enough imo.
[post cup - international success and dead years] - the middle years. You’re probably only going to read event fic set during this time unless it was written in the nebulous now of those years.
Events include: the golden goal/2010 olympics. Sid’s concussion. Geno’s knee surgery. The 2012 lockout. Geno playing at home in Russia during the lockout. I think Geno & Ovi had a memorable All Star Game in here. Socchi Olympics. Worlds 2015.***** Tanger’s stroke. Olli’s cancer. Geno getting married. Trades include I wanna say Jordy, Talbo, Lazy. Gonch is in Dallas but I don’t remember if he was traded. This is also the spacetoaster era. Sid spending several years building a house only to move back in with Mario due to post-concussion syndrome.
*****Sid winning at worlds is I think the end of this era cause Worlds kicked off Sid’s “winning everything that he could possibly win” era.
[the sully era] The 15-16 & 16-17 cup wins against San Jose and Nashville. The threepeat attempt in 2018 with its second round loss to the capitals. The vegas draft followed several years later by the seattle draft. Geno had a kid. Once you get past the cup runs this really blends into the nebulous now. Maybe it’s cause I stopped reading fic religiously sometime between 2019 and 2021 but aside from the covid pandemic which I very much do not like reading about, there’s not much here to highlight other than player milestones and trades, but don’t worry Sid and Geno have had a bunch of milestones.
[modern pensblr] - The covid stoppage, pandemic-hockey, and now. Anything from 2020 to the current 2023-24 season. Very much the nebulous now but there’s tons of milestones for our two headed monster/core trio to celebrate.
Okay I know I just spent a while being very “general with specific” but this next category is for the people who just don’t care about anything I’ve talked about.
7. [Timeline what timeline] - This is the one where authors simply don’t care about the “when” of their setting. It’s an outgrowth of the nebulous now but it’s less tied to canon. It may reference a season but it doesn’t have to and will often ignore actual team makeup because “this is my fanfic and if I want to ignore that trade I can.” Non-hockey aus (one or both s/g) will often fall under this since you need to answer who is playing center for the Penguins if Sid drives the zamboni. Straight up aus are kinda here but I don’t think fics that are fully an au setting like a college frat or space au really counts for this conversation since the au comes with its own time period that is wholly divorced from canon outside of the cast of characters. This is also where fics that go “I’m going to write my own canon” belong (ie Geno is a flyer, what if Pens drafted Ovi instead of Geno, what if X player got traded to Y team and hooked up with Z player). Timeline can matter for some of those fics, but most of them only care as much as it makes sense to make the fic make sense. The important timeline information is that hockey is happening (or it’s the off season and hockey isn’t happening). These are the fics where the Pens are always conveniently playing Washington when Geno needs advice from Ovi or Vegas when Sid needs similar from Flower. As long as the fic is internally consistent what does it matter if you’ve forgotten this or that timeline detail such as setting a timeline in the first place. Hockey itself is so intertwined with the specific routines of a season that you can divorce that routine from reality and just have hockey. Fall becomes winter becomes spring becomes the playoffs, what more can an author ask for?
Done? Idk I’m out of words. Okay I love you for reading this far. Bye bye. Feel free to chime in in the notes if you’ve got your own ideas. I certainly don’t have a monopoly on thoughts and I’m not convinced I’m right either, just doing a deep think.

Yu-Gi-Oh Review Roundup: GX!
Favorite main character: Chazz Princeton
The Chazz. The yugioh rival who, barely five episodes into the first season, gets fed up with being in the show, sails away on a yacht, shipwrecks, is rescued by card game playing russians, gets adopted by said russians after beating all of them back to back in a 50 man gauntlet, and returns to the main plot triumphantly riding a submarine with an entire crowd of slavs chanting his name.
In, uh... *checks watch* episode 25.
Chazz is one of those yugioh characters who’s just always doing the most he possibly can, and you gotta love him for it. And unlike some prideful anime rivals, he actually has the skills to back it up. Skills you actually get to watch him build himself, from the ground up, after having his fall from grace/russian sabbatical. Which just makes it even more satisfying to see him tear into duels, because his archetype of choice, and his whole arc in general, is about using the most unintimidating, unwanted, and least powerful monsters. It’s like the pokemon trainers who threaten to beat you into next week, and then bring out. A magikarp.
Except he then absolutely trashes you with said magikarp. And clomps away in his big goth platforms, loudly proclaiming that magikarp are annoying, and stupid, and he definitely doesn’t like them. Nu-uh. Ignore the maxed out friendship stat.
Up until the heavier plot kicks in in season three, Chazz has hands down the best character arcs of GX. His fight to break free of his abusive brothers’ control, his crabby assimilation into the Slifer Squad, his brief stint and subsequent escape from a Literal Cult (yeah that happens in gx don’t worry about it). Chazz is such a charismatic and well developed character that, when he kinda vanishes for like a dozen episodes, only to reappear, having won an entire tournament offscreen, being heralded by banner-bearers, and carried on a freaking PALANQUIN
I stood up and CHEERED.
Favorite antagonist: The Dark King
The most stunning of trope subversions in a season chock-full of them. Yes, Yubel may be a more threatening and complex villain, but they have so much going on between the dub vs. sub battle, they may get the final save-the-world card game at the end of the season, but the Dark King is such an equally nuanced and menacing antagonist.
Because he’s the protagonist.
The dark king is every concept I loved about the Yamis in DM, the idea that parts of ones soul aren’t wholly power of friendship goodness, the idea that you can still choose to be an anime protag even if there’s darkness living inside of you. Because being kind is hard. And the act of pursuing it hits so much harder when we see how much it costs to turn down the other path.
Again, I’m a sucker for any character arc even remotely analogous to mental illness. If you see a pattern in the way I review media, I wholeheartedly claim it. I am a simple creature.
But the Dark King also functions so fantastically as both a metaphor and a subversion because we’ve seen the trope of a Superpowered Evil Side before. The show is betting on that. The twist comes in that the Dark King is not some malevolent, foreign entity. That it’s Jaden. Just a scared kid, lashing out at the world and forced to deal with the consequences. And he’s not evil.
Whereas Marik shows with dealing in the part of yourself that wants to commit atrocities, Jaden takes it the next step, and has to accept that you can’t just get rid of it. You have to live with it. Rein it in. But be kind to it. Because it is you, and it just wants to keep you safe and it may be wrong and a base impulse but punishing your worst instincts is not only self harmful, it is impossible.
You may have instantly internalized any negative emotion out of shame, and yes, you may somedays even be controlled by it. But do not fear it. Learn to work in tandem with your rage. Do not let it possess you, but do not imprison it either.
The Dark King is one of those stories that I really think I needed to hear as a kid, but even now, consuming the series as an adult, doesn’t make that message any less impactful.
Favorite side character: Tyranno Hassleberry
Back in the early days of 2021, before the first season of yugioh dm was even a passing consideration of a thought in my mind, I decided to poll my online friends and determine what they thought the Best Worst Name in localized yugioh.
These were people that had never watched yugioh, never so much as glanced at the card game.
We started with 32 names.
After five rounds of voting, only one was left standing.
Tumblr media
Tyranno Hassleberry beat Maximillion Pegasus, and thus was crowned the ultimate champion of Best Bad Yugioh Name.
Some might say this championship gave me a bit of a preemptive bias towards the funny dinosaur man.
They’d be right.
Imagine my delight, however, when this already-primed-for-stupidity name got a face, and we learn that big, dumb, real himbo of a yugioh name is attached to an equally big and dumb himbo of typical yugioh absurdity. I mean, truly, Tyranno Hassleberry is everything I love about yugioh worldbuilding, personified. In a series that takes an up close examination of the partnerships between man and monster, and the terrible psychological effects thereof, Hassleberry stands as the shining example of a character so full of love and stupidity that he is immune to the horrors.
While Jaden “What is attraction” Yuki is off getting ptsd from his partnership with a dragon demon that hyperfocuses on relationships so hard that it has put people into comas, Tyranno is also there. Just vibing. Hassleberry, do you have such a strong spiritual connection to your ace monster that you might be genuinely inhuman? Do you also have special anime eyes and mild superpowers? How’s that going? Good? Good!
The world of yugioh not only can provide rich, nuanced explorations on mental wellness and the very idea of identity, it can also provide a man who is half dinosaur and it is only ever lightly remarked upon. Apparently, the solution to surviving an ever expanding universe of unreality and cosmic horrors beyond your imagination is just. Be kind. Be happy. Talk about dinosaurs.
Favorite duel: Yubel vs. Zane
A masterclass on how non-plot-relevant duels can still contribute SO much to the show and its characters.
Zane is a funny little weirdo. The walking personification of Gifted Kid Burnout, this dude graduated valedictorian and then immediately proceeded to get kicked in the ribs by the realities of non-academic living, causing him to sink into a deep and self harmful depression spiral, obsessed with pulling others down to his level and proving to them that happy go lucky positivity is only a naive shield in the face of true adversity and cruelty.
*Laughs a bit too forcefully* What a funny dude!
Zane has basically been on a downward slide in mental wellbeing since season two, and at this point, seems to have reached a natural stopping point in his corruption arc. Tired, washed out, and pessimistic, but at least comfortable in his status quo of being An Absolute Mess. He’s teamed up with Aster as sort of the token chaotic neutrals of the party, the only ones edgy enough to do things like casual torture and murder, but he’s attempted to reach out to his brother, and has even begrudgingly been roped into protecting the gang as they make their final stand against Yubel. He seems to be operating under the belief that while he no longer has to try so hard to rid the highschoolers of their delusions that the power of love and friendship will save the day, he’s still a depressed snot rag wrapped in a black leather overcoat.
That fantastic bit of ex-villainous personality gets to go head to head against the current villainous personality, and it is a treat. Yubel and Zane carry entire scenes through sheer force of presence, and seeing them snark and attempt to out edgelord each other is a delight.
But it also is a very pivotal point for Zane’s character because, for once, he is not the most mentally unstable person in the room. That honor goes to Jaden, newly traumatized, and about to start rolling down the same hill. Zane recognizes those self destructive behaviors, even attempts to warn Jaden that refusing to acknowledge his actions will only lead to further harm, but before he can properly sit down and explain to Jaden that self harmful behaviors are bad actually, and that electrocuting yourself to feel any semblance of emotion is actually a massive holy shit red flag, Yubel interrupts them.
So now, Zane, Failure Big Brother Extraordinaire, has to come to some semblance of peace with his own emo demons, while battling Jaden’s for him (both literally and figuratively).
The sheer panache of two of the most wonderful anti-heros of yugioh, the emotional turmoil of Zane’s inner conflict, the realistic portrayal of how we process trauma, plus the absolute YUGIOH MOVE that is choosing to die of card game induced heart attack. Honestly, I could go on about this duel forever.
Favorite arc: Quest for the Rainbow Dragon
I mentioned previously that I started watching yugioh as something to have on in the background, usually while I sewed. The Quest for the Rainbow Dragon is the arc that made me put down my needle and actually devote my full attention to watching the show.
GX is a show full of subverting audience expectations. I have my own opinions on the prioritization of shock-bait over consistent plot writing, but I also can’t deny that when Adrian Gecko just shrugged off his shirt and engaged in freaking fisticuffs, I was speechless for a whole five minutes.
In between one blink and the next, GX went from a weird early 2000s merchandise advert that occasionally had character writing and the oh-so-rare taste of legitimately serious writing, to a full on survival horror anime. The surreal, empty desert environment of the spirit world, the main cast slowly whittled down and frequently split up, the eerie monologues of Yubel and their legitimately unnerving horror visuals; all contribute to this claustrophobic feeling of dread. The panic of the students feels real.
And QftRD, despite being the first entry in GX’s much darker and grander second half, makes wonderful use of smaller scale episode plots. Entire episodes are devoted to the struggle of moving from one room in the school to the next, or negotiating for enough food to survive just another day. Every main character gets to shine in aspects that we’ve only seen hints of in their lives of status quo card games: whether it’s Alexis’ natural leadership, Hassleberry and Axels’ military skills, Crowler’s actual want to protect the students’ well being, or Jaden and Jesse just finally getting to explore their connections with duel monster spirits. Heck, even the unnamed students get to shine, using their knowledge of the school to navigate through hidden passages.
It’s such a shock to the system, after two and a half seasons of decidedly not small scale apocalyptic survival. The transition from Saturday Morning Cartoon Weirdness to PTSD War Crime Hours is very jarring and unexpected, even if you know it’s going to happen. But the duel zombies arc goes a long way to make that pivot feel deserved, to give actual weight to the sacrifices and choices the characters are about to make.
Also, I somehow managed to write this entire thing without realizing this is my second time my favorite arc in a ygo show has been the one with the word ‘dragon’ in the title.
Greatest strengths of the series:
The slow burn from shonen cartoon to cosmic horror trope subversion.
Truly, I can only compare GX to a handful of other shows that have ever come within the same ballpark of a viewing experience. The closest I can get is maybe relating it to Red vs Blue: One of my favorite shows of all time. And one that it’s absolutely impossible to get into.
See, with both GX and RvB, they’re shows that start out silly, unconnected, and (don’t worry, I love both of these shows with almost my entire heart), bad. Now, an impatient viewer might be tempted to just skip to the point where the show takes off, where it quote unquote “gets good”. But the problem is, if you attempt to cut out all the chaff, you lose what fundamentally makes the sudden spike in writing quality so compelling: the unexpectedness of it.
GX grabbed my attention by the throat in Waking The Dragon, because, up until then, I’d been using it as chill background fodder. Jaden felt so real to me as a protagonist and a person, because I’d spent fourty hours watching him be a normal protagonist/teenager. The previous episodes might not have done much to advance in terms of the plot, but they delivered something equally important: A status quo.
And when that status quo is broken, it feels much more powerful to the audience because it feels so fundamentally wrong. Just like it’s insane to watch in real time as RvB goes from being a bunch of outdated loosely strung together skits to a military drama waxing poetic about morality, GX spins on a dime from “Saturday morning cartoon” to “Cosmic horror meta tropefest”, and every episode you want to look up from the screen and go “How. Wh- Who let them just... do this?” Who let them set out to write one kind of story, and then not bother to correct them when they started doing something completely different? And why is it so good?
That is a very rare feeling in media, I think. To be so truly and utterly thrown off guard by a change in story direction, yet having more fun than you possibly could with some so-called “good” stories. And I think it’s a feeling worth cherishing.
Weakest points:
The slow burn from shonen cartoon to cosmic horror trope subversion.
The other reason I compare GX to Red vs. Blue is the fact that they are both shows that I cannot in good conscience recommend to friends.
“Here’s this show I like,” I say.
“Oh, cool, I’ll check it out!”
They return, minutes to hours later.
“So, I started that show you like and uh. Are you aware it is? Bad?”
“Yeah, don’t worry, it gets better-”
“Oh, sweet, cause I was really worried-”
“-Just give it a couple seasons!”
“I, uh.” They tug at their collar. “Can I skip the bad parts?”
“No. :D”
Hours and hours of time sunk into a mediocrity on the off-chance it “gets good” is a tough pill to swallow for most people. It’s a tough pill to swallow for me, and I willingly aspire to watch every yugioh anime. Add on top of that poor production quality,  bloated plot bunnies, and some writing that has aged like milk, and you have. Well. A benign watching experience, at minimum.
And like I said, there’s good ingredients to the final storyline buried in all that early stuff! Just skipping directly to the middle in a hope to reach “the part everyone talks about” fundamentally waters down the experience, leaving you struggling to understand what has fans going bananas.
Why does the show hit you on the head 200 times with a hammer? Cause it feels so good when it stops!
Now, I’m not your parent, and you can watch tv shows however you want. If you only watched seasons 3 and 4 of GX, then by god, you watched GX, and you are welcome at the discussion table. Get in here, amigo. Your opinion matters just as much as mine.
GX is very difficult to review, in comparison to all its other sister shows, because the aspects some people praise are the very aspects others could never really get into the show because of. Its greatest strength as a story and its greatest weakness as a show are one in the same. It’s sort of this weird child of the family, unable to be talked about without a lot of contradiction and conversational backtracking. Is GX the best show of the three? Maybe. Is it my favorite? No, with an asterisk. Is it some people’s favorite? Absolutely.
If you changed it, made the plot tighter, the writing more concise, had a planned narrative from the beginning and slowly worked in elements of the larger endgame, would those same people still like it, in the same fervor?
I don’t think so.
Most yugioh moment:
YA SEE, A FEW YEARS BACK, ON A ROUTINE DIG FOR DINOSAUR FOSSILS, A LANDSLIDE BROKE OUT AND NEARLY BROKE MY LEG IN TWO. THEY HAD TO OPERATE QUICKLY, SO THEY USED THE DINOSAUR BONE I FOUND TO SAVE MY LEG. EVER SINCE, I'VE HAD WHAT THEY CALL DINO DNA. THE DOCTOR SAYS IT MAKES ME STRONGER THAN THE AVERAGE JOE.

Most exciting game of the tournament so far!
Carrot sticks
Esmee Brugts is amazing and people need to realize she is 19 and two years younger than the American baby everyone is screaming about (i will get to her in a second).
We all owe Jackie our first and second born child
Daan is just a ball of energy and i'm loving it
STEEF WTF YOU CAN'T LEAVE US LIKE THIS
Vic was a bit unlucky but did good overall i think
Lieke ran out of batteries at the end but she had some good moments
Roord scored then disappeared, predictable but reliable i guess
Katja did as well as could be expected. She tried and was pretty good in possession
Passing was on point (until we hit the 65th minutes slump). Loved the clean passing through midfield.
They were out of energy around the 75th minute but they survived in the end! Great fight and deserving point
Cucumber stars
Rodman was nowhere, literally nowhere
Horan's header was the first true burst of energy the US has seen in 2 years
Sophia had me hold my breath every time she had the ball
Vlatko is a cunt
DeMelo was just not good. She let Groenen completely take her out of the game
They need to get active, it's not okay if the opposing team gets 90% of the loose balls. You should be chasing those damn balls!
NAOMI ❤️
ROSE CHANGED THE GAME
Andi needs to be more aggressive in duels. You cannot have a forward turn away from you as easily as happened today.
Energy in the last 25 minutes was how they should play the full 90!
Could have easily gotten more than a draw (but could have also lost 3-0 if the Dutch had Viv!) but the mentality just wasn't there for the majority of the game

Hey! I have a question do you have an explanation for DOATK? My mutual reblogs it a lot and I'm honestly a bit curious because It reminds me of the kind of fun bullshit I do with my friends (Putting random characters/people in a very specific story scenario where they click or fight with others that they would not in normal circumstances ever know. From what I've seen that's kind of from an outside view what this is like?) and I want to learn more about it all. I have listened to a couple of your songs too, which make me all the more curious haha!
So, this explanation has gotten way longer than I expected- Everything's under the cut, 'aight? Though I'd like to clarify first, anon, I haven't made any music for Diary of a Tourney Kid. Everything but the credited guest art for later rounds & a specific victory theme for another tournament's character for a crossover (THE WARDS, to be specific) on the official DOATK accounts has been created by one anonymous creator of the whole tournament. Though, If you somehow found my Soundcloud and actually enjoyed more than my most recent track, I would be both flattered & surprised because holy HELL am I bad at keying, but that's offtopic LOL
Anyways... Diary of a Tourney Kid, or DOATK for short, is a music/mashup tournament hosted on Soundcloud. There are 16 characters, they have mashups, and the music they use in said mashups is determined by sourcelists- A bullet point list of genres, pieces of media, and even concepts or themes related to the character. All of these characters are thrown into a bracket, and matches happen every so often, usually in batches of whole rounds one after the other. During matches, you vote on the character you like the mashups/sourcelist of more! This repeats until a winner is decided. It's sorta like Tumblr tournaments, but with actual tangible rewards, either in the form of a grand takeover for the winner of the tourney as a whole or more tracks for your favorite down the line! Now, Diary of a Tourney Kid started with a simple enough story, with a bit of an... interesting presentation, to say the least, with a combination of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, lined paper, and art for characters literally being doodles made with the default MS paint brush and then improperly bucket filled.
Tumblr media
Pictured above to illustrate that point is the host of the tournament in lore, Greg Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He has teamed up with W.D. Gaster of Undertale fame to trap people in his diary for a fight to the death in his own tournament, due to reasons that range from being French (The entire Eiffel Tower, yes, that is a contestant) to "Ruining EVERYTHING" (Adam Conover, who acts weirdly out of character early on? ...Long story for another time.) Now, to continue, I think it's about time to bring up where DOATK differs from other tournaments in terms of bracket. Instead of a double elimination tournament that was typical for it's size, with a winner's and loser's bracket, DOATK runs on a triple elimination bracket, with a 3rd (And final!) chance of making a comeback all the way to grands in what is known as the goner's bracket. Being in this bracket has a pretty steep price, though; Everyone who goes through it is experimented upon by W.D. Gaster, (who has, at the moment, basically left Greg Heffley for dead, leaving the diary the tournament takes place in bouncing between hosts each round) and turning the poor souls who lose twice into the "goners" said bracket is named after.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...And, as shown by contestant 14, Inugami Korone/THE CANINE, it isn't pretty. If a contestant loses in goners, they're dead for good. In general, DOATK sets itself apart from a lot of other tournaments with the generally darker tone of goners, an astonishingly high production value for the fact it is an anonymously run solo project, (There were entire FNF mods made for TWO matches!) and a really engaging story with genuine stakes and interesting characters. (Diary of a Tourney Kid has the unique honor of being the entire reason I have watched all 3 seasons of the TruTV educational comedy show Adam Ruins Everything, so, yeah... You can get pretty invested)
So, Yeah! That's DOATK. Lemme know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer/infodump!

rugby player x hockey player au?
authors note: I know this isn’t meant to be apart of Super Smut Thursday but I saw this and wanted to write it out. Probably went a little bit too technical but maybe it’s just time for me to teach y’all a bit of rugby lingo.
Tumblr media
I mainly see her dating a college hockey player because that’s probably where she’d be playing rugby in order to avoid the long distance relationship.
But if she were to be dating an NHL player then I’d see her as a sevens player rather than a traditional rugby player.
- probably met him during a tournament when he was dragged along to the final day of the weekend (sevens tournaments run from Friday to Sunday)
- so if that was in season it would most likely be in Vancouver but we can act like LA hosts the woman’s tournament too.
- he’s definitely scared of her at the beginning. Nothing instills fear in a man like watching a woman flatten an opponent three times their size.
- as she walks off of the pitch she is clueless as to who he is as hockey isn’t a big thing in the country she’s from.
- but her teammate recognises one of them and instantly she’s pulled over to say hello
- his rugby knowledge is only because of what he’s seen on that day so as he tries to praise her for her performance it doesn’t go that well as he ends up making her laugh.
- right before she’s meant to make her way back to the dressing room she asks him for his number so she can ‘teach him about rugby’
- in the process of getting to know him they each teach the other about their sport with her even going to his final home game of the season because shes been off she’s the middle of may.
- it’s at this game that he asks her out cause who doesn’t love a summer romance?
- unfortunately cards aren’t exactly in their favourite as in the middle of July she’s got a plane ticket home that she intends on taking
- but what happens when he decides that it’s about time that she shows him where she’s from?
- he gets to see that rugby her and home her are two very different people. On the pitch she’s aggressive and not exactly the most caring about the members of the other team, but at home she literally wouldn’t even hurt a fly.
- forget having the freedom to pick a league team to support that isn’t hers. Even the male side she wants you to act like you would support them too.
- she’d take him to a national game, possibly a cup one depending on where she’s from.
- he’d quickly realise that sevens rugby is practically a whole different sport to fifteens or full squad rugby.
- the summer ends and her family has literally adopted him as they try to understand the basis of hockey.
- he’d go back home for preseason training but would make sure that he was awake for all of her games regardless of what time they were showing at.
- she does the same thing anyways when it comes to his games.
- they’re both slightly terrified though when they watch their partner because it feels like at every moment they could get hurt.
- both his and her fandoms would be so confused when the relationship goes public because nobody knows how you two met.
- by the time that the next sevens tournament in Vancouver/LA rolls around he is all excited because he actually knows what is going on.
- and he has you to support on the pitch.

The Great Hall was crowded and beautiful in a way she wouldn't ever dare to say.
Her mother sent her a black gown that sparkled at every movement. She had never felt so gorgeous in her entire life, especially when she had worn the pair of black gloves that lay at the bottom of the box with her first pair of heels.
But what mattered most was the boy who was dancing with her: Draco Malfoy.
And he had kissed her before the beginning of the Yule Ball.
Nevertheless it didn't feel good as she always pictured in her mind: a quick and rushed kiss, with their eyes opened and no sign of—well, anything.
And when Hermione Granger made her appearance with that stupid periwinkle dress, Draco hadn't never stopped to stare at her. Pansy and he were friends since their childhood, she knew everything about him but now it was perfectly clear that he had a crush on another girl.
Hermione Granger, of all people.
So she felt allowed to glance around and when her gaze landed on him, something snapped inside her: Harry Potter's eyes were intense, his untidy hair needed to be tamed but the genuine smile he wore looked so cute.

Pansy's cheeks burnt.

How could she think those things about him? Not when the badge "Potter stinks" laid on her desk, not when she had helped Draco to feed Rita Skeeter with info against him, nor when he was /Harry Potter/. Her parents would have been terrified by her own thoughts.
But that night was a different kind of story: the Yule Ball, the Triwizard Tournament, Hogwarts filled with students from other countries. Everything could happen.

"Enough, Draco, stop".
"What? You asked me to dance".
"And now I won't do it anymore. I need some air, bye".

He looked shocked for a moment but then Hermione Granger and Vitkor Krum started to dance too close to them and the jealousy on his face was unmistakable.
So she stormed out of the ballroom, in order to sit on a bench and try to regain control of herself.
She was conflicted between duty towards her family and her real feelings: they wanted to betroth her to Draco and Hogwarts was her way to gain the contract. But he didn't want her, it was clear.
The great discovered of that Yule Ball was that she didn't give a fuck about that. Pansy blushed thinking about the fact that her mother would have slapped her for those vile words.

"I thought you loved dancing. Surely you have taken private lessons since childhood".
Pansy froze, knowing who belonged that voice.
"Go away, Potter".
But he wasn't known for being a boy who followed the rules, so it didn't surprise her at all watching him sit next to her.
"Parvati hates me, I won't come back there".
Pansy gulped. "It's because you're the worst dancer I've ever seen".
His full laugh made her smile, even if she didn't dare to show it to him, covering her mouth with a hand.
He kept staring in front of him, without facing her when he dropped the bomb. "You look amazing with this dress".

Blimey, he couldn't say things like that to her.

Pansy stood up immediately as panic flooded through her body. Probably he had drunk too much punch secretly blended with Firewhiskey.
"You're forgetting who I am and who you are: we're enemies, my parents killed yours", she retorted, trying to get rid of him before it could be too late.
But he caught her wrist, standing up. "Malfoy has spent the entire evening looking at Hermione: strange things happen".
"How dare you! I'm his date, she is only a bint, a mud—".
"Don't finish your sentence, Pansy, or you're going to regret it", he hissed, still with his hand around her wrist.I

It didn't seem he wanted to let her go and only Salazar knew how she literally yearned for the same.

"I'm sorry", she blurted out, without even knowing why.
"Kiss me and I'll forgive you".
"You have knocked your head, Potter?".
He smiled fondly. "Probably but you're too beautiful to waste this occasion".
"I'm here with Malfoy", she repeated.

But when he circled her waist, she crushed her lips on his in a second, doing what she actually wanted for the first time in her young life.

I’ve seen a lot of people talk about wanting to change the playoff format to 1v8 but haven’t had much luck figuring out what the playoff format is now?
If the pens get the first wildcard spot they play Carolina and the second they play Boston, is that right? Would it would be better to stay in second, then? It seems like they’ve come close with Boston a couple times but get hammered by Carolina every time. 😂
hi anon! sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this. thanks for the question, i like this because there isn't really a right answer, it's a matter of opinion and priorities—of course i happen to think my opinion is the correct one (and sid agrees with me!) :D :D
so the current playoff format is as follows:
each conference has two divisions. the top three teams in each division automatically make the playoffs, followed by the two teams with the next-most points regardless of which division they're in (these are the wildcard teams). what this means is you could have five teams from one division and three from another, and the three teams from one division could all be significantly worse than the teams in the other division, but they're getting in by default because of the setup.
in the first round of the playoffs, the top team in the conference (winner of one of the divisions) plays the second wildcard team (the worse of the two wildcards). the winner of the other division plays the first wildcard team. the second and third team in each division plays each other. the second round is divisional, so for example whoever comes out of the winner of the metro vs their wildcard opponent will play whoever comes out of metro spot 2 and metro spot 3. the third round is the conference finals, and then the stanley cup is the winner of the east vs the winner of the west.
what a lot of people want, and what it actually used to be, is 1v8 format. so instead of each division getting three teams + two more teams, it's just the 1-8 top teams in a conference, with the top-ranked team playing the eighth-ranked team, the second-ranked team playing the seventh-ranked team, and so on.
how does that play out? let's use last year's western conference as an example so we can see the differences:
last spring, the avs won the western conference after the regular season, which means in round one they played wildcard 2 (nashville), and the flames won the pacific division, which means they played wildcard 1 (dallas). minnesota and st louis were 2 and 3 in the central and played each other, and edmonton and los angeles were 2 and 3 in the pacific.
so here were the matchups:
colorado v nashville
calgary v dallas
minnesota v st louis
edmonton v los angeles
in theory, the purpose is to promote divisional rivalries. however, what ends up happening is two very good teams that might have otherwise both gone far and met up in a later round, leading for higher stakes and MORE of a rivalry, end up playing in the first round, and one of them gets knocked out earlier than they maybe should have.
in 1v8, here's what the matchups would have been:
colorado v nashville (1 v 8)
minnesota v dallas (2 v 7)
calgary v los angeles (3 v 6)
st louis v edmonton (4 v 5)
the purpose of 1-8 is to reward teams that achieve in the regular season—matching them up against lower-seeded teams gives them more of a chance to move on, which they've earned for exceptional performance throughout the regular season. it makes the regular season victories mean more because you're fighting for a more favorable opponent in the postseason, and it means two quite good teams have a chance to meet later in the tournament, not right away (i like to use the wild vs the blues last season as an example of this).
i understand why the league tried out this wildcard divisional setup. but, it leaches meaning from the regular season. it doesn't reward elite teams with more favorable matchups unless they literally win their conference. and forcing three minimum from each division can sometimes means teams that are not in the top 8 of their conference make it into the playoffs. some divisions are more competitive than others. that also harms the final product, because it means there are good teams that aren't getting in and not-so-good teams getting in on technicalities.
i wrote this very quickly so i hope it makes sense! if it doesn't please let me know i and i will try to clear up whatever i wrote poorly for you! :)

I've seen a lot of Thomas's interviews lately. I've come across one where he mentions that there's a deleted scene from s5 that would make us understand why Terry is not afraid to die.... and I don't know your thoughts on that scene where Terry is conversing with Kim and having a drink before the trio of "good guys " trespass.
I just feel his body language and tone he used whilst talking about youth was somewhat depressing. I personally hate that terminally ill theory ,but what do you think about all of this...could it mean..?
I'm literally on the verge of not going back to the show if they kill Terry...hated how they developed his character and how he really never got the chance ...sure he's deceptive and manipulative...but seriously he was not the bad guy here.
P.s sorry for the ranting 😭just a bunch of ck disappointment.
What are your thoughts on this situation?
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they kill him off.
I mean, I hate it, and wow, what a waste, but it wouldn't surprise me.
I can literally see Terry's whole schpeel in Season 6, if Season 6 ever even happens is, and here is a prediction; He bails himself out of jail because he is realistically too rich to stay there, he turns out to be terminally ill (maybe he gets a compassionate release due to it), and he kidnaps the Jarmen baby as a one final 'If I'm going to die, I'm taking someone down with me', because we need to hit all the stereotypes, including making Terry Silver a baby-stealing Jewish man taking over the world a la something out of a blood libel. Or maybe John Kreese does the kidnapping. Heck, maybe John Kreese does the rescuing and that is his redemption? Saving Johnny Lawrence's legacy from Terry Silver? Either ways, I just feel this nonsense will happen. Maybe we get a roof-top showdown of John and Terry fighting over a stolen baby.😂 Reason why it is particularly jarring is because, and I have said this before, the show went about literally redeeming every villain and denoting Daniel's past trauma to a set of quirky jokes and 'ha-ha, remember when...'', and yet in the same vein we are expected to have these immense stakes with Terry. Like, why? If Mike Barnes nearly throwing Daniel off of a cliff and terrorizing him to the point where Daniel couldn't even fight a tournament out of sheer fear is a-okay all of a sudden, where does the moral high-ground of villainy even stand in this universe anymore and why should we really care?
So, yeah, I think he might just die because the writers need to tie up loose ends.

How to Understand Office Job Titles and Where to Get an Office Job
Okay, so, I hate that even if you do go the university route, colleges don't teach people how to understand what different position titles mean and how to know if they qualify. So here is a quick cheat sheet, based on me floundering my way through nonprofit office jobs for the better half of a decade. Hierarchy Titles:
Entry Level: Associate--This means you're the starting person, you shouldn't be the only human in your department and are likely helping other team members with their tasks, making their positions more generalized and helpful for figuring out what you want to do long term.
For example, a Communications Associate would not be expected to come up with the years' communication strategy or manage team members, but would be expected to write newsletters, social media posts and maybe do some graphic design work.
Mid-Level: Coordinator--A Coordinator has several years of experience in their work and will likely be entrusted to lead small projects. As a heads up, if you end up leading your entire department--like I did--as a coordinator, you are being screwed out of money and a higher title Managerial level: Officer, Manager, etc.--on paper, these folks should have worked their way up from analyst to get here and thus have a deep understanding of the work they ask of the team members they supervise. In practice...I have not seen that in most companies. Managers don't do a lot of direct work themselves in terms of making the final product, instead they direct what the final product should be and check in with team members to see how shit is going. Executive Level: Chief [Thing] Officer,Executive Director this person is on the top of the hierarchy, probably is overpaid, and their job is to manage the managerial staff
Okay now, Here are some Fields to look into for office work:
The nonprofit sector: AKA Charities. I'll warn you, nonprofits vary hugely in terms of how radical they are or how much they may swing into patronizing missionary models.
Nonprofit Jobs to Look For:
Development Positions: This work is about raising money to keep the lights on. Nonprofits do not charge their clients for services and instead acquire money through donations, grants, and fundraising events. I've worked in development. It's...soul sucking after a couple years to be honest. Here are some positions to look for:
Donor cultivation: Like talking to people and networking? This job is about knowing who is who and being really good at talking people into giving over their cash.
Grant Writing: Enjoy spreadsheets and writing arguments to convince people to do things? That's grant writing
Event Coordinator: Like throwing parties? That's what the event coordinator does. Create convincing parties for rich people so they'll give money.
Program Positions: Program positions focus on whatever services a nonprofit does for their community. How to Address the Annoying Coded Language when you think you have no experience: Look, even if you have no office experience, I promise you probably have transferable skills from previous jobs, volunteer work, or club activities. If you're not sure what the hell a job is asking you to do, for example with a vague terms like "relationship building" or "program management" google "Examples of professional X" or "transferable X skills." For example, if you have ever helped a club you were in run a bakesale, hold a movie night, run a dnd tournament, throw a party, you have program management experience. Program management is annoying office speak for "make sure this thing we say we do happens." Literally every term in a job description can be broken down into this. Where to find jobs (In the US): (I know the most of these are nonprofit, sorry that's my field, tbh, other folks feel free to add trustworthy job sites): WorkForGood . org--Website that lists a lot of nonprofit sector jobs Idealist . org -- much bigger version of Work For Good Google " [your city name] United Way Job Bank" Look for a web address that contains "United Way . org" UnionJobs . com : All the listings on this site are US union jobs, there are other union job sites but I cannot find them for the life of me Look at the "careers" section of any organization or company that you've thought "I'd like to work there." Even if you don't have the skillset you think that company would need. A tech firm still needs someone to write the marketing copy and make sure the office is functioning, and a credit union still needs someone to make sure all their computers are running. University Jobs . com and Higher Ed . Com : Websites that lists work for college campuses "Faculty" are the people who teach classes, some of which you don't need a PHD to do. "Staff" are folks who do everything other than teach and there are a lot of staff jobs and they ask a huge range of skills and certifications. You don't necessarily need a bachelors or higher to work for colleges. Book Jobs . Com: Wanna work in US publishing? Here you go! Search "[Name of Field your Interested in] Professional Organizations" There's professional orgs for damn near everything, and poking around on their websites can be helpful in finding leads on the kinds of jobs to search for.
Getting office work is a pain in the ass. Companies these days are trying to streamline staff and run on their own form of labor exploitation that often uses the classist specter of "Ohhh you don't want to work three different shift work positions do you??" to get people to work unpaid overtime at shit levels, because hey, you get PTO and health insurance, right? However, once you get six months of office experience under your belt, it becomes way easier to jump ship and find a better place to work. If you stay within a particular industry, you'll also have an easier time finding work, because people will start to poach you when they leave if they like what you do and working with you. Companies like to hire based off of referrals or internal promotions best, so while you'll still have to go through the formal interview process, if you're old coworker hopped over to greener pastures and they put in a recommendation for you for an open position and tell you to apply, you're chances of being hired increase. I did this with my best friend for a couple of years. I told the almanac company I was working at was hiring and then mentioned to my boss that my friend was applying and I'd worked with her before and she was good at her shit. Then she left to a database company and told me they were hiring and gave in the good word for me. It becomes a game of leap frog. Also for the love of fuck, use your friends as references if you don't have any professional ones. They don't know your "work experience" with your friend is the garage band y'all fuck around in on the weekend. Put your friend down as a coworker, tell them the details of the job you're applying for and what you said you're capable of, and give them a heads up if the job you apply to says they're calling your references. Companies are not your friend and won't do you any favors. Don't feel bad about exaggerating your skills to get in the door. Everything is googleable.

SuyaLight Master Post 2
I really like these two there’s not a lot of content for the fandom as a whole soooo her’s my submission as I get every moment of these two royals who literally share a braincell (and I love them for it) First up this is just on the manga if you are anime only its going to have stuff you havent seen yes even with what the anime covers (so read it) and there will be spoilers so beware. If you prefer Demon Monk/Cleric/Leo (which I don’t really get) I am sorry this isnt for you. Lets go! Part 1 is here
Tumblr media
Suya shows up at meeting to talk about her nightmare after trying to get rid of her Twilight relents.
Tumblr media
Suya needs a bathroom knowing Twilight has similar needs in that area to her she follows him to his.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Too prideful or embarrassed to just say she needs to pee she says something way worse and confusing. So she uses violence to get her way.
Tumblr media
After doing what she needs she falls asleep leaving Twilight in pain.
Tumblr media
I just find it funny he finds her fiendish
Tumblr media
Suya doesn’t like it though, and to stop her kicks he’s willing to make some changes.
Tumblr media
Which leads to the weapons downfall cause he’s such a pushover.
Tumblr media
Suya used magic to make herself big and well Twilight is the most observant to catch on.
Tumblr media
She decides to carry them and its kinda cute.
Tumblr media
Again Twilight tries to see the best in Suya believing she was just as lonely as him growing up (which is later proven true) so he lets her join a schools trip to the demon castle to join in fun she missed out on.
Tumblr media
But the chapter makes his belief had to justify.
Tumblr media
Though He was wrong in the end she just wanted to play and have nap time, she wasnt as malicious as the other demons feared. Still its a misunderstanding between the two.
Tumblr media
They get the princess to act like a proper hostage and its too much for Twilights conscious to bear.
Tumblr media
Twilight recognizes that they probably caused more problems for themselves in the long run meanwhile Suya starts a real arc for her, countering the notions she’d be taught about Demons with her experiences and wondering just why they hate each other?
Tumblr media
So Suya is trying to escape and no one can stop her so Twilight lays a trap.
Tumblr media
No one thinks it’d work but obviously he gets her just a little better than most.
Tumblr media
After getting her to tell them the reason for her escape (being she wants to buy something) they try to dissuade her before she says this.
Tumblr media
It catches them off guard especially Twilight who’s weak to compliments.
Tumblr media
After following Suya around the human town all day and dealing with her nonsense they win tickets to a fireworks show where Twilight lays some lore on us.
Tumblr media
He reveals a bit why he does what he does and I do think Suya is taking it all to heart.
Tumblr media
They think she wants to leave but instead she shows what she would prefer, offering them alternate designs to the less than demon friendly ones on display. This also shows what her long term goals likely are, to bridge the gap between humans and demons.
Tumblr media
But its undercut by Suya falling asleep on the way back and Twilight having to carry her with her new vibrating pillow in high.
Tumblr media
Suya shows up unexpectedly in his room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suya’s logic is unflappable.
Tumblr media
Twilight is so scared though its adorable.
Tumblr media
Suya wants to know what will happen at a slumber party and Twilight does his best to explain to the best of his knowledge. He’s so cute in this chapter.
Tumblr media
(part of me thinks Suya might be Asexual or Aromantic but thats another post)
Tumblr media
Anyway after nearly bombing the room cause she doesnt want to think of the hero Suya has Twilight look more into the party but mostly ignores him.
Tumblr media
Suya proves that she does actually pay attention and wants to know more about Twilight.
Tumblr media
He tries to dodge and it leads to his downfall.
Tumblr media
Suya asks an interesting question that leads to pain for Twilight.
Tumblr media
At the actual party Suya recalls Twilights explanation.
Tumblr media
It’s Halloween and Suya is shown to be pretty face blind though she mostly recognizes them.
Tumblr media
Twilight is pretty numb to Suya’s nonsense, but this prompts them to start their own tournament.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It blows up in his face when Suya joins.
Tumblr media
However Twilight has learnt how to deal with Suya pretty well.
Tumblr media
He offers her a special item for the hero knowing she’d immediately fall asleep. Thus avoiding being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
This still takes place during the anime though there’s segments it didnt adapt.
